- 0:00Mark Chapter 4. He began to teach again by the
- 0:03sea, and such a very large crowd gathered to him that he got into
- 0:06a boat in the sea and sat down. And the whole crowd was by the
- 0:09sea on the land. And he was teaching them many
- 0:12things in parables, and was saying to them in his teaching.
- 0:15Listen to this. Behold, the sower went out to
- 0:18sow. As he was sowing, some seed fell
- 0:20beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up.
- 0:23Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have
- 0:25much soil, and immediately it sprang up because it had no
- 0:28depth of soil, and after the sun had risen it was scorched, and
- 0:32because it had no root it withered away.
- 0:35Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up
- 0:38and choked it, and it yielded no crop.
- 0:40Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and
- 0:43increased, they yielded A crop and produced 3060 and 100 fold.
- 0:48And he was saying, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
- 0:52As soon as he was alone, his followers, along with the 12
- 0:55began asking him about the parables.
- 0:57And he was saying to them, To you has been given the mystery
- 1:00of the Kingdom of God. But those who are outside get
- 1:03everything in parables, so that while seeing they may see and
- 1:07not perceive, and while hearing they may hear and not
- 1:09understand, otherwise they might return and be forgiven.
- 1:13And he said to them, Do you not understand this parable?
- 1:17How will you understand all the parables?
- 1:19The sower sows the word. These are the ones who are
- 1:22beside the road where the Word is sown.
- 1:24And when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the
- 1:27word, which has been sown in them in a similar way.
- 1:30These are the ones on whom seed was sown on the rocky places,
- 1:33who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy.
- 1:37And they have no firm root in themselves, but are only
- 1:39temporary. Then when affliction or
- 1:42persecution arises because of the Word, immediately they fall
- 1:45away. And others are the ones on whom
- 1:48seed was sown among the thorns. These are the ones who have
- 1:51heard the word, but the worries of the world and the
- 1:53deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter
- 1:56in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
- 1:59And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil,
- 2:03And they hear the word and accept it, and bear fruit. 3060
- 2:06and a hundredfold. And he was saying to them, A
- 2:09lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it?
- 2:11Or under a bed, is it not brought to be put on the
- 2:15lampstand? For nothing is hidden except to
- 2:17be revealed, nor has anything been secret, but it would come
- 2:20to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let
- 2:23him hear. And he was saying to them, Take
- 2:26care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it
- 2:29will be measured to you, and more will be given you besides,
- 2:32for whoever has to him more shall be given.
- 2:35Whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from
- 2:38him. And he was saying, The Kingdom
- 2:40of God is like a man who casts seed upon the soil, and he goes
- 2:43to bed at night and gets up by day, and the seed sprouts and
- 2:47grows. How he himself does not know.
- 2:50The seed produces crops by itself, first the blade, then
- 2:53the head, then the mature grain in the head.
- 2:56But when the crop permits, he immediately puts in the sickle,
- 2:59because the harvest has come. And he said, How should we
- 3:02picture the Kingdom of God, or by what parable shall we present
- 3:06it? It is like a mustard seed, which
- 3:08when sown upon the soil, though it's smaller than all the seeds
- 3:11that are upon the soil, yet when it is sown it grows up and
- 3:15becomes larger than all the garden plants, and forms large
- 3:18branches, so that the birds of the air can nest under its
- 3:21shade. With many such parables He was
- 3:24speaking the word to them so far as they were able to hear it,
- 3:27and He did not speak to them without a parable, but He was
- 3:30explaining everything privately to his own disciples on that
- 3:34day. When evening came, He said to
- 3:35them, Let us go over to the other side.
- 3:38Leaving the crowd. They took him along with them in
- 3:40the boat, just as he was, and other boats were with him.
- 3:44There arose A fierce Gale of wind, and the waves were
- 3:47breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already
- 3:50filling up. Jesus himself was in the stern,
- 3:53asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to
- 3:55him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?
- 3:59And he got up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Hush,
- 4:02be still. And the wind died down, and it
- 4:05became perfectly calm. And he said to them, Why are you
- 4:08afraid? Do you still have no faith?
- 4:11They became very much afraid, and said to one another, Who
- 4:14then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
