- 1:17Speaker 1: Hell's from Houston, Texas. But many years ago I told
- 1:19Speaker 1: him to leave Houston and follow his entertainment dreams. Go
- 1:23Speaker 1: to go West, young Man, Go West, young Man, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: he went to Los Angeles. He's written those shows like
- 1:28Speaker 1: House of Pain, Rickey Smiley, Show, Raven's Home, and Meet
- 1:32Speaker 1: the Browns. He's currently a writing producer on the On
- 1:35Speaker 1: the New Tia Maori I worked with tamra own sister
- 1:38Speaker 1: Sister and Loretta Divine. I did a play with her
- 1:41Speaker 1: and Los Angeles, California. The shorts called Family Reunion is
- 1:45Speaker 1: a comedy series ordered by Netflix. Netflix is buying Everybody
- 1:49Speaker 1: Well Tia and Loretta Divine Uh set to a headline
- 1:53Speaker 1: a new multi generational, multi camera comedy series on Netflix.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Please welcome to my show Moneyment Conversations Anthony Hill. What's
- 2:04Speaker 1: going on right man? You know to tell you some
- 2:08Speaker 1: Anthea it's so proud of you. Man, I gotta get
- 2:10Speaker 1: it out and you know, hip hop comedy stop. You
- 2:13Speaker 1: just to come by the club and man people for
- 2:18Speaker 1: you buddy people and uh, you know, but he just
- 2:22Speaker 1: had that genuine enthusiast, genuine enthusiasm of ball being uh
- 2:27Speaker 1: following his dream. So we're just going back there because
- 2:29Speaker 1: we got a lot to talk about. We had two
- 2:31Speaker 1: breaks and uh, I do want to take time because
- 2:34Speaker 1: a lot of people and you know, man, I was,
- 2:35Speaker 1: I was all about there's a lot of talented people
- 2:37Speaker 1: in Houston. Let me get that straight, right. There's a
- 2:39Speaker 1: lot of talented people. But there's a lot of fear
- 2:43Speaker 1: in Houston about making that decision to move or making
- 2:47Speaker 1: the decision to change jobs. There's a lot and I
- 2:50Speaker 1: look these many years that because we look roughly about
- 2:52Speaker 1: twenty five years, it's some people that said they didn't
- 2:56Speaker 1: make that decision. They didn't make that decision to either
- 2:59Speaker 1: go in New York, I go to Los Angeles. But
- 3:02Speaker 1: you did, young man. You listened to Rashan mcdonal. Why
- 3:05Speaker 1: did you listen to Well, you know what, I think
- 3:09Speaker 1: I was too stupid to me text, you know, and
- 3:11Speaker 1: to know any better you know what it was, man,
- 3:18Speaker 1: was I always wanted to do something different, and not
- 3:23Speaker 1: I always knowing what that was. I just knew that
- 3:26Speaker 1: I wanted to do something different. And you know when
- 3:27Speaker 1: I was a kid, I always played by myself in
- 3:30Speaker 1: my room. I had these little army men and my
- 3:33Speaker 1: sister's dog. And what would happened was that there was
- 3:36Speaker 1: one one, one guy being picked on by all the
- 3:39Speaker 1: other guys, and then and then and then he would
- 3:42Speaker 1: fall off the bed which was the mountain. Then and
- 3:45Speaker 1: you come back big and my sister crazy dog and
- 3:47Speaker 1: just beat him him up. You know, that was my
- 3:51Speaker 1: story all the time. You know it was funny that
- 3:54Speaker 1: I'm doing the same thing now and just getting paid
- 3:57Speaker 1: for it, right right, right right. You know, I've always
- 4:01Speaker 1: liked listening to to two stories. You know. Um, what
- 4:06Speaker 1: I know is that is that now this young brother
- 4:09Speaker 1: from South Park is a very you know, is a
- 4:12Speaker 1: man a little fan live. We should listened to it.
- 4:19Speaker 1: There you go. Now, South Park is like Fifth War,
- 4:23Speaker 1: it's a very. It's a black community, all right. So yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 1: I'm in fifth one, a little bit older than him.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I'm listening to bad Man a little live here in
- 4:31Speaker 1: South Park. He listened to Bad Man, A Little Live,
- 4:33Speaker 1: what it was supposed to work? What's happened at all Man?
- 4:37Speaker 1: You know, So only my close friends to know that
- 4:39Speaker 1: about me, you know. And somebody asked me once why
- 4:42Speaker 1: are you a man a little fan? And so I
- 4:45Speaker 1: to think about it, cause because I never really thought
- 4:47Speaker 1: it me, I WoT about why, and they realized that
- 4:50Speaker 1: I'm a man little fan because his songs tell stories, right,
- 4:54Speaker 1: you know, and I've always liked stories. I've always liked
- 4:57Speaker 1: beginning middle end. You know, I was a kid in
- 5:01Speaker 1: school who enjoyed the essay portion of the attest he's
- 5:04Speaker 1: gonna saying, because I can fake that because I know
- 5:07Speaker 1: how to do a sort like topic sentence, prove it
- 5:11Speaker 1: and then end it because all paragraphs is so that early, right,
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know. So when it comes to me to writing
- 5:17Speaker 1: the scripts, it's the same same thing in getting middle end,
- 5:21Speaker 1: you know. And it's something that now the cool thing
- 5:24Speaker 1: about you is that, like I really want to always
- 5:27Speaker 1: commend him, because they're different ways to make it in Hollywood.
- 5:31Speaker 1: You know, you can go after you you know, nepotism, chronism, chronicism,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and you can you know, you can know a celebrity
- 5:39Speaker 1: I got new a lot of celebrity. I got a
- 5:40Speaker 1: lot of through celebrities or you can cpthin captain couches. M.
- 5:47Speaker 1: That's casting a lot of money these days. That cost
- 5:49Speaker 1: a lot of you I'm in Hollywood, right and then
- 5:54Speaker 1: then he come out there, he get a movie right away.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I'm going like, how do you get the movie? You know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: he got a movie going to the big screen. Now,
- 6:03Speaker 1: let's talk about that first movie that you got. Just
- 6:06Speaker 1: out of the blue? Got a movie they don't know
- 6:09Speaker 1: the major theaters out of the Blue. It wasn't easy.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I think it was not easy. You know what it
- 6:18Speaker 1: happened to me. I see, I don't see. I don't
- 6:20Speaker 1: believe in luck. So I do believe in blessings, you know.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I know that I was just placed in the right
- 6:25Speaker 1: place at the right time, and every thing that even
- 6:28Speaker 1: worked out great, you know for me. But I got
- 6:30Speaker 1: it done, you know. So it was so it was
- 6:32Speaker 1: a pastor who whose name I want so you know,
- 6:37Speaker 1: I won't name. But but now he had a project
- 6:40Speaker 1: because he had a friend working on the parent parenthood,
- 6:44Speaker 1: you know, um, you know, and he asked me if
- 6:47Speaker 1: I wanted to write something against for like for like
- 6:51Speaker 1: for like ten grand uh sure, you know, because I
- 6:59Speaker 1: didn't know what the world and so subfactive, but I
- 7:02Speaker 1: knew that I needed to go forward right right right,
- 7:06Speaker 1: you know. And if I have any talent, I tell
- 7:08Speaker 1: all of my friends my my my biggest talent is
- 7:11Speaker 1: knowing not it's like not knowing how to stop and
- 7:16Speaker 1: keep going going forward. That's true about you. That's very
- 7:19Speaker 1: true about you. And I always liked that about you.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I always liked that about you because of the fact
- 7:24Speaker 1: that and it was fearless, you know, he was always
- 7:27Speaker 1: inquiring you, was always next step conversation, you know, you know,
- 7:31Speaker 1: it was never I never had the same conversation with
- 7:33Speaker 1: you every day the next day, and that was always
- 7:36Speaker 1: it was gonna That frustrate trates me about life when
- 7:40Speaker 1: people are going to have the same you know, conversation
- 7:43Speaker 1: and and then and then you know, nothing changes. And
- 7:47Speaker 1: that's why I liked about you, because because a lot
- 7:49Speaker 1: of people understand there's a stand up comic, which I
- 7:51Speaker 1: was at the time standing up comics, and a lot
- 7:53Speaker 1: of people that were talking about who did make the
- 7:55Speaker 1: transition to Los Angeles stand up comics. So you have
- 7:57Speaker 1: an advantage over a writer, a writer. You know, you
- 8:00Speaker 1: can go out there and still hustle. You you gotta
- 8:02Speaker 1: write scripts. There's no guarantees. But as the stand up
- 8:05Speaker 1: you can get gigs, you can get giars on the road,
- 8:07Speaker 1: so you gotta make money. Unlike an actor, you can
- 8:09Speaker 1: actually make money. And so so when he went out
- 8:12Speaker 1: there to go to l A, you know, I you know,
- 8:15Speaker 1: I tell a lot of people, a lot if anybody
- 8:17Speaker 1: familiar with this show and listen to the show the
- 8:19Speaker 1: couple of a couple of years I've had this show,
- 8:21Speaker 1: or a year and a half I had this show.
- 8:22Speaker 1: You've heard a lot of people coming on the show
- 8:24Speaker 1: talk about the experiences they I've shared with them, about
- 8:27Speaker 1: advice that I've given them about just do it, and
- 8:30Speaker 1: that just do it, and then you listen to me.
- 8:33Speaker 1: That's really, that's really what I'm so proud of the
- 8:35Speaker 1: fact that you listened and it was driven not by
- 8:37Speaker 1: any guarantees. No, I mean, well, you know, it all
- 8:41Speaker 1: make made sense to me. And you know, you know
- 8:44Speaker 1: you mentioned that you know, the we're you know, fearless,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and that that wasn't the case. I was very fearful,
- 8:52Speaker 1: very prea but I didn't let HI stop me. You know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I watched the movie once and there was and and
- 8:58Speaker 1: and so, and they got talking to his grandson and
- 9:01Speaker 1: he has his grandson. Do you think that Superman is brave?
- 9:05Speaker 1: And the kid said, of course, and so of course
- 9:07Speaker 1: you know soci media, so it is being bravest. He said, no,
- 9:11Speaker 1: she's not raved. He is he is. He is indestructible.
- 9:15Speaker 1: You're in destructable. You don't have to be braved, you know.
- 9:19Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying though, Tho those of us
- 9:23Speaker 1: who can't gick, get hurt or killed and do it anyway,
- 9:27Speaker 1: those are the brave ones, because James is tough. And
- 9:31Speaker 1: I didn't even know why I was doing about it
- 9:34Speaker 1: though that do that I was, you know, I not
- 9:37Speaker 1: always had the always drawn just to just to do more,
- 9:40Speaker 1: because because when I was in Euston before we he met,
- 9:43Speaker 1: you know me and so, me and my boys had
- 9:46Speaker 1: a rugged jobs doing doing doing a rugged thing, regular cards,
- 9:49Speaker 1: blah blah blah, and and I was fired with it.
- 9:52Speaker 1: But then start hanging out with you and Steve and
- 9:54Speaker 1: blah blah. Wait his minute, you mean I mean I
- 10:00Speaker 1: didn't have a super made they do that thinker for me?
- 10:06Speaker 1: The measure me is gonna sit me perfectly because his
- 10:08Speaker 1: mind now right right, right right, is that how I
- 10:11Speaker 1: grew up. You know what I'm saying, it's learning that
- 10:16Speaker 1: that those things were, you know, saying possible and and
- 10:20Speaker 1: and and so and and they they hanging out with
- 10:22Speaker 1: it the people. That's what I tell a lot of
- 10:25Speaker 1: young you know what I'm saying. You know, you know
- 10:26Speaker 1: young guys now me, young people, that it's about who
- 10:30Speaker 1: you surround yourself with, you know. And it's tough being
- 10:37Speaker 1: in in in Houston because I wasn't surrounded by people
- 10:41Speaker 1: who were doing what you want to. I want to
- 10:44Speaker 1: chest you do as so you got your ten thous dollars,
- 10:47Speaker 1: so you got your tent than dollar he telling you
- 10:48Speaker 1: to write. You know, the church. Dude didn't come to me.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I was on parents who to the town. I could
- 10:53Speaker 1: have got that ten thousand dollars. So now I'm mad.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I'm mad now because I was I was writing on you,
- 11:00Speaker 1: weren't writing nowhere somebody would be get a sandwich. I
- 11:05Speaker 1: was getting you a sandwich ten dollars. You said, hit yea,
- 11:10Speaker 1: not your hick yea. And in the next steps, what
- 11:14Speaker 1: are the next steps after that? Well, the next step
- 11:18Speaker 1: was the process. And then I learned that I wasn't
- 11:21Speaker 1: a writer. I was a rewriter. What you're going through
- 11:26Speaker 1: draft over again, you know and once and just not
- 11:32Speaker 1: knowing the business of of of show, you know. So
- 11:38Speaker 1: I got it done, and you know, at that point
- 11:43Speaker 1: he wanted to take it without giving me the money. Okay,
- 11:49Speaker 1: then I had a problem. South Park was popping up.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Now south Park exactly, so now we're not doing that.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I wasn't always a right I have another thing for
- 12:03Speaker 1: for a long time, especially right because you know, I
- 12:09Speaker 1: didn't have nothing, you know, and when you're writing something,
- 12:15Speaker 1: you're not doing something else that you want to do, right,
- 12:19Speaker 1: you know. So that's why people getna get paid because
- 12:22Speaker 1: whenever somebody you know wants you to write something and
- 12:26Speaker 1: you and so you say yes, there are a many
- 12:28Speaker 1: other things that you want to do that that that
- 12:30Speaker 1: you put off, you know, to the side. So so
- 12:35Speaker 1: when I got it done and he was a guy
- 12:37Speaker 1: coming through, we were so we were ready to have
- 12:40Speaker 1: to go to that when I tell you go to
- 12:41Speaker 1: court and blah blah blah. So I just said that
- 12:43Speaker 1: with him and said, look, I got to work done,
- 12:46Speaker 1: but this is that, and eventually it worked out. He
- 12:49Speaker 1: didn't rewrite an everything, and I didn't, so I really
- 12:52Speaker 1: wasn't thrilled with it. But I had a movie credits.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Was stunned man, and he beat me to the big screen. Man,
- 13:02Speaker 1: that's cool. You told me. You called me in and say, hey,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I ain't scared of you. Remember telling me that? Then
- 13:13Speaker 1: you laughed. You have it right now, you know? But
- 13:16Speaker 1: I but I knew, But I didn't know where it
- 13:18Speaker 1: was going. But I knew some of that. I just
- 13:20Speaker 1: had to act. You do now, I stayed that. That
- 13:22Speaker 1: was the first one and the only one I know.
- 13:26Speaker 1: That's that's the beautiful success. After that was sitcom King
- 13:29Speaker 1: on the phone is my man, Anthony Hill. He's from
- 13:31Speaker 1: he Hills from Houston, Texas. Uh. Very talent, very talented writer,
- 13:35Speaker 1: born and boy in south Park, South Park, UH work.
- 13:38Speaker 1: He'd been familiar with his work as a house of
- 13:40Speaker 1: pain rickey smiler. So Raven's home and meet the Browns.
- 13:44Speaker 1: We're gonna come back and talk about this new series
- 13:46Speaker 1: on Netflix called Family Reunion. Anthony Hill, I'm so happy, brother,
- 13:49Speaker 1: so proud of you. I'm back. Ra Sean McDonald on
- 13:55Speaker 1: the phone is a good friend of mine. Uh, somebody
- 13:57Speaker 1: I'm very proud of. You know, rarely say I mentor people.
- 14:01Speaker 1: One of this young man, I have to say I
- 14:03Speaker 1: mentored and shared a lot of great life, life life
- 14:07Speaker 1: stories with Uh. We actually watch each other's group grow
- 14:10Speaker 1: up in this business. Uh Mine just been a little
- 14:12Speaker 1: bit more high profile in this business. But he's been.
- 14:18Speaker 1: He's been the star in his own right. He's written
- 14:19Speaker 1: on shows like House of Pain, Rickey Smiley Ravens, Home
- 14:23Speaker 1: Meet the Browns. He's currently a writer and producer co
- 14:26Speaker 1: executive producer correct on the new show with a Family
- 14:29Speaker 1: Union on Netflix. You know, like you see, he's always
- 14:32Speaker 1: doing stuff that I've before me, Like he did the
- 14:35Speaker 1: movie for me. Now he's on Netflix for me. Sometimes,
- 14:38Speaker 1: you know, you know I should have held you back
- 14:41Speaker 1: a little bit. Hey, let me get my gig for you.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Come to Hollywood. But first of all, you have two
- 14:46Speaker 1: bigger houses. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. So let's
- 14:57Speaker 1: talk about this new show Family but Union with my girl,
- 14:59Speaker 1: t your Maori, who I you know, watch grow up.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I did two seasons with her on Her Sister Sister,
- 15:06Speaker 1: Her Sister Tamara Tomorrow. Mara is also uh the host
- 15:10Speaker 1: on the reel. Uh, So I treated to take him
- 15:13Speaker 1: out to eat, just really little sisters. They they changed
- 15:16Speaker 1: television because it was the first time to African American
- 15:19Speaker 1: young teenagers won't television and gave that slice of life
- 15:22Speaker 1: to a lot of teenagers of all ethnicities about how
- 15:27Speaker 1: to relate in the relatable lifestyle. So tell us about
- 15:30Speaker 1: family reunion and how did you get involved. Well, first
- 15:34Speaker 1: of all, I told t that you said, you know hello,
- 15:37Speaker 1: and she was so excited when I said your name
- 15:39Speaker 1: because because there are no other root Shawn, you need
- 15:44Speaker 1: last name just Rashan. You know exactly who you were
- 15:49Speaker 1: when I said it good but for the union, and
- 15:56Speaker 1: it was. I was working on Raber's Home and one
- 16:00Speaker 1: of the core executive over at Raymond's Home got a
- 16:04Speaker 1: deal over at Netflix, and I worked with her on
- 16:07Speaker 1: the show also because the thing about this business is
- 16:11Speaker 1: when you work with with someone you work well with,
- 16:14Speaker 1: they bring you with them or you or you bring
- 16:16Speaker 1: them with you. Because there's been times that I've hired her,
- 16:18Speaker 1: she's hired me, you know. And so when she got
- 16:22Speaker 1: that deal, you know, I was doing another show for
- 16:25Speaker 1: Netflix and they asked her who she wanted as a
- 16:30Speaker 1: as a co ep of the show, and she said
- 16:33Speaker 1: to me, in my job was already doing another show
- 16:36Speaker 1: called Malibu Rescue for a Netflix. So they're like, well,
- 16:41Speaker 1: who is this guy that y'all both want, you know,
- 16:43Speaker 1: want him, you know, which felt good for me. And
- 16:46Speaker 1: then the idea we're working with Tia and you know,
- 16:49Speaker 1: Loretta and Richard round Tree is you know, im saying,
- 16:53Speaker 1: he's on the show now and Kill of Hopkins. They're
- 16:56Speaker 1: on the show now and we're doing uh show that
- 17:02Speaker 1: speaks to us, you know. Fan of Union is about
- 17:08Speaker 1: an ex ball player who is from from Atlanta. He
- 17:13Speaker 1: moved from from Columbus, Georgia. He moves and plays for
- 17:18Speaker 1: the Seahouse, raises his kids in Seattle, you know, and
- 17:22Speaker 1: once he once he retires, he moved them back to
- 17:25Speaker 1: the country pretty much and he's the kids are in
- 17:27Speaker 1: for culture shock, you know what I'm saying. And we
- 17:32Speaker 1: hired it and it's a it's an all black writers staff,
- 17:37Speaker 1: you know. And the way we build this staff is
- 17:39Speaker 1: it's a very diverse room of writers of black writers
- 17:43Speaker 1: because because although we're all black, we're all different and
- 17:47Speaker 1: we all bring, you know, different perspectives, you know, to
- 17:50Speaker 1: the show. We're shooting number six this week out of twenty.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And in fact that infis game you gave us twenty
- 17:59Speaker 1: It is so so it was so is incredible and
- 18:02Speaker 1: they're so excited you know about the show, and the
- 18:05Speaker 1: in the audience is the biggest thing we even though
- 18:09Speaker 1: we here is it sounds like us right, it's so so,
- 18:15Speaker 1: you know, because I've been on several shows where you know,
- 18:19Speaker 1: you know, you know, the majority of them of the
- 18:21Speaker 1: room even you know it's so it's a black leave
- 18:23Speaker 1: show is white. Yes, yes, And that was totally because
- 18:33Speaker 1: because it because characters are same things you knew they
- 18:36Speaker 1: wouldn't say. But when you tell them that, they don't
- 18:39Speaker 1: believe you because they want to tell that version of
- 18:41Speaker 1: black people. And I'm not in a position now it's
- 18:47Speaker 1: our version now, you know, and it's instead of when
- 18:51Speaker 1: I say our, it's not just my version. There are
- 18:53Speaker 1: there are nine people, um in that room, none black,
- 18:58Speaker 1: different voices because there's not one character on you know,
- 19:02Speaker 1: on that show, you know, and all those points are
- 19:05Speaker 1: actually slet because because because when I'm with my Jewish
- 19:10Speaker 1: writers friends and everything, and they so a Jewish character
- 19:13Speaker 1: and I'll pick something and they said, well, I think
- 19:16Speaker 1: he will say this something like the fact that I'm Jewish,
- 19:18Speaker 1: blah blah. Okay, I defer, you know, he deferred, Okay,
- 19:24Speaker 1: but I just give it. But then when I say
- 19:28Speaker 1: it because well I don't know what you mean. You
- 19:30Speaker 1: don't know, I that's your question. Well, you know, And
- 19:35Speaker 1: then that's that's really really interesting you say that because
- 19:38Speaker 1: of the fact that the people seem to feel that
- 19:42Speaker 1: you know that that that it's really interesting, like hip
- 19:45Speaker 1: hop has a culture, but the basic African America doesn't
- 19:48Speaker 1: have a culture. Okay, because because they would defer to
- 19:53Speaker 1: hip hop language, they go, we were saying like that,
- 19:56Speaker 1: we say it like that, but if you just talk
- 19:58Speaker 1: about you, George a sick um, they don't feel that
- 20:02Speaker 1: there is any particular tone that that a typical African
- 20:06Speaker 1: American family will be or live a lifestyle. And so
- 20:10Speaker 1: it really was interesting because how that taking that room
- 20:13Speaker 1: happens like that because you absolutely are telling the truth. Yeah,
- 20:18Speaker 1: and so it is frustrating, and I realized that I'm
- 20:21Speaker 1: going to be frustrated until I have my own mm hmmm.
- 20:26Speaker 1: You know, because it's easy to fight from the top,
- 20:31Speaker 1: you know. And so and so were you involved the
- 20:33Speaker 1: end of the casting of the series. Uh, I was
- 20:36Speaker 1: involved in in everybody, in every bit and maybe a
- 20:38Speaker 1: bit of it. So so we're a bit of it.
- 20:41Speaker 1: So will it for first time? So when will it premier? Um?
- 20:46Speaker 1: Right now at the tennis date is um June that
- 20:50Speaker 1: they're talking about a June teenth, you know, which will
- 20:54Speaker 1: be great. That feels smaller family re union. That's a
- 20:56Speaker 1: summer tone. That's that's hitting the right the right right
- 20:59Speaker 1: approach to the whole process. Yeah, now with June team. Now,
- 21:04Speaker 1: you know, a couple of years ago, you know, we
- 21:06Speaker 1: were writing, you know, we was talking about your writing
- 21:08Speaker 1: career and and I had some projects to go coming
- 21:11Speaker 1: up and use using a cross road because there are
- 21:14Speaker 1: different levels of writing and in in Hollywood, you know
- 21:18Speaker 1: those union writing, that's writing where you know you got
- 21:22Speaker 1: a job, but it doesn't feel like a job. So
- 21:24Speaker 1: what is one of the things that that really helped
- 21:26Speaker 1: me out a lot? Because I can finish this one
- 21:28Speaker 1: for you, I'd gone because I have been doing shows
- 21:33Speaker 1: like and I'm gonna preface this by saying that this
- 21:36Speaker 1: is not a knock on anyone. I appreciate anyone's work,
- 21:40Speaker 1: you know, but I'm doing work with buying Byron Allen,
- 21:44Speaker 1: and you know, so Tyler period isn't that and it
- 21:47Speaker 1: was so it mean, it was fine, but I learned
- 21:51Speaker 1: that we I want to tell different stories than you
- 21:54Speaker 1: know they do, you know. And I worked a Tiger
- 22:00Speaker 1: for three and a half years and it so um
- 22:02Speaker 1: um you know in Atlanta, and when I came back
- 22:05Speaker 1: here to work, people would will say, I don't want
- 22:08Speaker 1: to hire a Tyler pair writer. And that sucked because
- 22:13Speaker 1: I had been doing some some some workwork up there,
- 22:16Speaker 1: but it it wasn't recognized here. So I work with
- 22:19Speaker 1: Byron Allen and it was kind of the same type
- 22:22Speaker 1: thing because it was a show that wasn't on, you know,
- 22:24Speaker 1: it wasn't a network show. It was the show that
- 22:27Speaker 1: was on and everything. And you know, again me, the
- 22:31Speaker 1: storytelling wasn't what I wanted it to actually be. You know.
- 22:35Speaker 1: So I go to a t L because this dude
- 22:39Speaker 1: is barbecuing and he was the backyard and she was
- 22:44Speaker 1: back yard. And I was frustrated. And so he could
- 22:47Speaker 1: tell tell tell us because I was doing things that
- 22:49Speaker 1: didn't I said that you don't want to do and
- 22:50Speaker 1: I was doing it for the money. I was doing
- 22:53Speaker 1: it for the money, you know, because I have kids
- 22:55Speaker 1: and they enjoyed eating every day, you know. So what
- 23:01Speaker 1: you told me, the reason why I'm frustrated is because
- 23:05Speaker 1: I'm better than the shows I'm doing. And I was
- 23:09Speaker 1: gonna always be frustrated if I kept doing it, and
- 23:12Speaker 1: I would always stay in that in that lane if
- 23:18Speaker 1: I didn't stop. So so the next season I told
- 23:23Speaker 1: Byron Allen know, and when I to you Rouchean, I
- 23:27Speaker 1: was so scared. I did that and for a while
- 23:32Speaker 1: things didn't go right, and I chrised your name my
- 23:39Speaker 1: bick account and with shrinking like you know, black girl
- 23:43Speaker 1: hair in the pool, it's just shrinking, man. But what
- 23:50Speaker 1: happened was I got Disney, So things got a little
- 23:56Speaker 1: bleak first, but I got Disney, and then Disney expend
- 24:00Speaker 1: it from Disney to to to UM to Netflix because
- 24:05Speaker 1: because I knew I couldn't get there from where it was,
- 24:07Speaker 1: but it was an easier jump from Disney to next
- 24:10Speaker 1: to to you know, a Netflix show, you know, And
- 24:14Speaker 1: and let me go even back further because because it's
- 24:17Speaker 1: happening with us a couple of times when we when
- 24:21Speaker 1: I first started working, I had stage manager who said,
- 24:25Speaker 1: who suggested that I invite you to the play. I
- 24:28Speaker 1: was doing a play in Houston, and I'm thinking, all right, cool,
- 24:32Speaker 1: because that you're a big time you had to hit
- 24:34Speaker 1: up comedy stop you know what I'm saying. And you
- 24:37Speaker 1: came out and everything, and I'm behind the curtain watching
- 24:41Speaker 1: you and auders hoping you would laugh. And then when
- 24:47Speaker 1: you did, you know, it's it's because that validated me.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Who knows I was doing something, because because it's hard
- 24:56Speaker 1: to make you you you laugh. Well, you know that's
- 25:00Speaker 1: the beauty of our relationship and the beauty of having
- 25:02Speaker 1: to honest conversation. Uh. You know, you know, I've been
- 25:05Speaker 1: trying to get Anthony on this show for a while
- 25:07Speaker 1: because his story is just uh I wanted a lot
- 25:10Speaker 1: of people should hear and uh, he should tell it
- 25:12Speaker 1: a lot more. By the way. Uh. He's the co
- 25:14Speaker 1: executive producer of the new series of Family Union with
- 25:17Speaker 1: airs this summer on Netflix. Uh. By man, I love you.
