- Diers: Welcome to Pit Stop with the Deersford Lincoln Auto, amigos. I'm And Fernando. ⁓ You knew that. today I want to start out by just asking Fernando, you could teach everyone ⁓ one skill, what would it be? I think one of the most important skills anybody can have, Tony, nowadays is time management skills. That would've been one 'cause I sure need it. Yeah. Shocks that you said that. You know, I look at that and I think, survival. ⁓ And I think a lot of different things that go into that. And we'll get into that stuff. But I think, you know, I when I was in ⁓ ninth grade I to Boy Scout camp and I had to do survival training three days, ⁓ which was god awful. tell you it was fun there. But when you're eating, you know, things you can find in the ground and you're not allowed to eat anything else and you're making tea from bark. ⁓ I can tell you that's terr that sounds terrible for you. It was terrible. we didn't have any hot sauce to kill the taste, which you would like. ⁓ we love that. Yeah, it was it was and I came home from Boy Scout camp that year, I was down like twenty five pounds and my mom's like, Man, ⁓ yeah, if you saw what I ate for three days, you stuff that would gag a billy goat, but So we're gonna talk to you about skills everyone should have. we're you know, they're not just work skills, but they're practical skills. And big thing to me, and I've always told my kids is if you do this well, you can make it in anything, and that's communication. If you're a good communicator, I think y you got great opportunities in front of you because that's a skill. Yep. For sure. You know what else would be a great skill to have? You know, I think everybody should have at least some level of this selling skills. If you can communicate, you get a chance to sell. And you can sell anything. Yes. And you know, so much of that ⁓ is number one, today I think there's too much texting, too much emailing. And now is it easy? Yeah. Especially when that conversation may be a little tougher. I think the hard thing about ⁓ text and email is sometimes it can come off the wrong way. For sure. You know, rather than you know, my daughter and I were yesterday we're we're talking about something with her job and I said, just call them. Because in an email you can read into, you know, you're not sure about tone. You're not sure really how they meant that. The easiest thing to do is just call. Plus it's quicker. You know, it's not back and forth. I got to wait an hour for ⁓ to read that and get back to me. You can get that conversation done a lot quicker. And Yeah, I I just think it's the best route. Well, when you're reading an email or a text, most of the time is if if it's a you know, you're having conversation, whatever, but you're reading it how you're feeling. So if you're mad, you're reading as if that person is insulting you or ⁓ you know, is mad at you as well. So you can take it the wrong way right away. And it could it might not even be that bad, but you might take it the wrong way. And see, I have a tendency just to be blunt and just say what I'm thinking it's and I don't mean it that I'm mad or but I think it can come off that way because ⁓ let's not beat around the bush. Let's just say it. You know what I've noticed about you, Tony? ⁓ It's not bad. It's not bad. But when you're driving you you use the text, the speech detects right from from the the the car. And can come off as a little blunt because you're just telling the the system, you know, what you want the to text that person. So You know, it just sounds a little just out there. I wouldn't text anything real important there, but ⁓ yeah, I do that. Yeah. Yeah, it's easy. You know, you hit Siri, hey, text Fernando, you know, hey, get to work on time tomorrow. Which I'm sure that was never and there's a period at the end, you know, that just makes it sound like exclamation. Yeah. know, I'm gonna tell you this next one. I know this is a fault of mine and You know, I've worked on it, but it's ⁓ and waiting your turn to talk. You know, I I've I've been in conversations and I t I said this to Nick and Fernando one day and our amigos on the go. I said, ⁓ you ever leave somewhere and and and you're wondering did I talk too much? And they both go, No, and I go, Yeah, me neither. But ⁓ I do have that. I try and be a good listener, but sometimes it's y I wanna add this to it 'cause I have a good story about that ⁓ and That's something I I constantly try and have to work on because I I like to talk and You're a good conversationalist. Thanks, Fernando. but then the other big thing is, and this is something that I see lost a lot today, I really believe that. ⁓ And and think being able to disagree respectfully. ⁓ And I think too times, ⁓ you know, people get because you don't agree with them. but I think that's where great ideas happen is maybe don't see it the same. But let me hear your side. And that's where the listening comes in. You got to be a good listener to to really hear their side. And then explaining how you feel about it. And then you take those two ideas and a lot of times you come out with the best solution because we're seeing it differently. You know, I don't I don't come from where you come from. And so hearing your perspective on things, because I'll ask Fernando about how what do you think of this? I never lived where Fernando lived. I I I've never lived in Fernando's culture. I don't understand everything the way he understands it. And the same thing for me. You mean you you didn't grow up where I did. so I think it's important to be able to to listen to each other and the opinions that that we both have, but and then also being able to say, Okay, I understand why you feel that way and then and then come up with solutions to that. You know, I wrote this book, it's about Lincoln. on leadership, on his leadership skills and, you know, how he handled situations. And it was a great book because it shows you how, you know, one of the most renowned presidents of the United States, how he led the country and ⁓ about how he his he chose his political opponents as advisors because they saw a different side, to the story. They they weren't just agreeing with him. They were, you know choosing to help him make the country a better place. So he chose opponents bec for that same reason because they weren't yes men, you know? They were teaching him other stuff. Maybe step out of your box. Exactly. Yeah. And see it the way that we're seeing it, but doesn't mean you have to completely agree. Nope. ⁓ conversations. And I think that's smart. You know, the the one thing about ⁓ communication is it can affect your friendships, it can affect your your relationships with people at work. you know, the one thing that I always try and do, and I talk I talk to, you know, other people about this because I think it's important is being respectful to my coworkers, ⁓ people who do different things that that ⁓ some people may not see as valuable as what they do. But I think everybody wants to be treated with respect. And if you make them feel like that, that hey, they respect what I do, they respect me. And I think it builds a better relationship and it makes work better. It makes it more fun. And and also you like to try and have fun with everybody. So every now and then you throw ⁓ a zinger too. But never do that to Fernando, but little Ugnut gets some of that. some other skills ⁓ that that think everyone should have, skills and that you need to have. And you know, it's easy to say now I'm older and I've been through life more than ⁓ like you. And but it's financial basics and how do you how do you survive in a daily household, daily bills? And I think a ⁓ A big thing that everybody should do. And my wife is great at this. I was not when we got married. I was a guy when I wrote a check and back before the debit cards and the cards and you wrote a check. I just rounded it up to the next dollar amount. And so ⁓ when we got married, was trying to balance my checking account ⁓ see how much was really in there. And some point she says, Do you know how much money you have in your account? And I go, No, not not really. I just always rounded it up to the next dollar. She says, you have like thirty seven hundred dollars in your bank account. And I go, Good news. So it's like a savings plan, but not really. I just did it because it was easier. the thing my wife's really good at is budgeting, you know, ⁓ each month, you know, you have your car registration year, that your tax and registration. She deducts for that every month. So that when we get to that month. That's smart. Yeah. I I would never have thought of that. But we get to that month and it's not this big check we weren't planning on for that month. She'd been deducting for it all year and she does that with our dues for ⁓ homeowners. she's just really good at that stuff, but she knows where our money's going, where it's spent, and she's rubbed off on our daughters because they're good at that. And so God bless her, because, you know, I don't even know what we have in our account now. I'm assuming the bills are paid. Well that's a good thing that she rubbed up on the kids because if it was you, man, all that shoe spending. They they still buy shoes. must budget for that. It's the budget. Must be in the budget. Well, ⁓ So one of the biggest things also ⁓ you know, you gotta have your ⁓ cards, right? So you gotta learn and understand how to use the debit card and debit card properly and the credit card properly as well. Because it's not just about, you know, swiping it and then forgetting about it. And then a lot of people forget that. And you know, there are businesses now that if you use credit, they charge you more. Yeah. But if you use the debit, it's just this price. Mm-hmm. And so it's important to know that when you're paying for something. and if you are able to pay, you know, that basically it's cash with your debit. the thing with credit ⁓ and when we were ⁓ young verse started out, and I don't know how much choice we had because we were getting by. And there's month we use, you know, there's months we use that credit card and ⁓ pay it off right away, you know, when we make this payment, which is a lot lower. And I got in a little trouble with those ⁓ and You we got ⁓ paid off and so we're not doing that again. And so now if we use the credit card, we pay it each month like one of our bills. Yep. But one of the big things, and I talked to my daughters about this is saving. And this is I learned this from my wife. You pay yourself like a bill. Mm-hmm. And so you have a separate account and you take this money from your check every time you get paid and you put it in there. And the smallest amounts will add up, you know, I I don't know how fast five dollars is gonna add up for you, but If you start that habit of paying yourself like you pay a bill and then just leave it alone, don't touch it, that can add up for you. ⁓ for sure. And it's it's an easy way to do it because if I look at it like a bill, you know, this Tony bill is a hundred dollars a month. You know, if you do that over a course of ten years, you know, you you get, you know, thirteen or eleven thousand dollars in your account. The math's right there, it probably isn't, but great way to do that, great way to save money. You know, and there's also many different accounts that you can use. There's high yield savings accounts, there are accounts specifically used for ⁓ saving for emergency situations, like a medical situation, right? And but credit cards and debit cards are a hard thing. Debit cards is, easy. But credit cards people kinda fail to understand the purpose of it and sometimes on a hard situation people use them. And you get you can get in trouble with those. ⁓ for sure. So have you ever made an expensive mistake? Yes. What you want to tell us about it? Yeah. So well, it wasn't that expensive, but it was expensive. I mean, for the fun of it, I bought a motorcycle one time it wasn't a huge expense, but I mean I only used it for like a week and then I and I got rid of it. I used quite I lost quite a bit of money, yeah. I you know, I was thinking about that and y the only thing I can think of was the credit cards when we first got married and ⁓ you think I need that. So hey, let's put it on the card because I don't have to pay for it right now. Well, you're paying for it, you're just gonna pay for it later. ⁓ you know, honestly, any big purchase my wife and I have ever made, I'm not that guy would just go buy something and come home and go, Hey, look what I got, this boat. Aren't you happy? we always talked about major purchases, you know. ⁓ mean I've done that with I come home with a new pair of shoes and she'll go, another. And ⁓ you know, that's not a big deal. But we've made major purchases without talking about it and ⁓ and if ⁓ hey, gonna buy this camp or can we afford it? And ⁓ things like that. I think I think that's good to have that discussion. So another skill that I think is important to have in your life. Is critical thinking. And having been an art teacher and a teacher, you know, that's one big thing you try and get your students to do is what do you think? You know, there's no answer to this. Come up with your thoughts and what you think. And I think especially when you go into your career, you know, there's situations where we get it all the time. Hey, I want to do this. I have an idea for this. Come see what you can come up with. be able to do that. Yeah, especially when they just say, Here's what we think, go do it. That happens quite a bit. yeah, I think critical s thinking skills are you can teach ⁓ Especially you know, when you you have kids and they're growing up, you know, just you've gotta let them decide. And ⁓ a lot of parents sometimes they they wanna baby them and that's where like the critical thinking skills are not developed correctly, right? But It's so important for kids to just for the parents to just let kids do or think their own way. Up to a certain point, of course. My grandson, one day was at our house and had a it's a little toy postal car, you know, that the mail carriers would drive. And he's acting like he's driving it around by me on the on the chair, my leg. ⁓ And he Papa. I dropped off your mail and I act like I'm grabbing it and I go, I don't see any mail. And he goes, I'm using my imagination. And you know, I told my daughter, I go, number one, I couldn't believe he could say imagination. but I I like that they talk to him about that. Yeah. Because, you know, his thoughts going through his head and being able to express those, that's a big part of critical thinking. And and when you're an art teacher and you say I don't want you to use a resource. I don't want you to take pictures of anything. I just want to see what comes out of your head and I want you to put it on paper. And you some kids are they just take off. And then you see those kids just sitting there and thinking and thinking and thinking. And so you give them little, hey, well, what if you thought about this? I mean, have you thought about that? I mean, if you thought you just you're not trying to give them an answer. You're just trying to create more thought so it eventually they can put that thought together. And I think you can teach that, but the best way to teach it is Here's what I want, go. when we had the two interns from Midland, Nick and Tyson, it it made me feel good when when they were talking about their internship at Midland. And they the thing I really like the most is they'd say, Here's what we want, go. And we didn't tell them all these things. We didn't say, Here's what you got to do, here's how we want it, here's what we're looking for, go. Because now we're seeing that they can they do that. Mm-hmm. You know, and I was just thinking ⁓ as we were we touched on this subject. you know what's gonna hinder critical thinking in the future? AI. AI. 'Cause now you can just ask AI something and they'll they'll tell you an answer, you know. It's not ⁓ you have to like think about it and look for solutions and ⁓ search different books and stuff, you know, you can just ask ⁓ and boom, answer. And Sometimes people don't even check sources, they they just put it in I AI and then boom, answer and then just go with it. We did a post this week for Troy. How could we make Troy look less grumpy? Yeah. And it's it's not that Troy is just a grumpy guy. He just looks like he he's he's always focused, you know. So he has that focus face. Yeah. And the some of the things that that chat GPT spit out for people was really funny. yeah. But the things I really enjoyed were things I knew they came up with on their own. You know, not that I didn't laugh at the chat GPT things because they were funny. I really enjoy somebody coming up with a funny answer. And you can really see some people have that gift of a quick response. Yeah, you know, it's in my head, I'm gonna say it and it's funny. but one thing I think that's ⁓ it's important is and I said this when we talk about here's what we want go. is think before you react. I think that's a critical thinking skill ⁓ because I'm going to tell you, sometimes I'm not good at that either, that the reaction just comes out of me and I haven't thought about because I am somebody who can come up with things quick. And then later I'm thinking maybe that's not what I really wanted to say. Well would say that I would that maybe that ⁓ Thinking before reacting is more of a, you know, emotional intelligence skill. I could yeah. Yeah, I could see that. Where you hold off your reaction until you think it through? Now your basic life skills. Yeah. And I know you you come from a culture that this happened and that's grandma teaching you to cook or your mother teaching you to cook. Cooking is a basic life skill. Not good at it. You don't want to eat what I make. That's why when my wife says, Hey, you got dinner, we're having frozen pizza and and that's yeah. I mean I can grill. And and I'm on the two Coca-Cola system. You drink two Coca-Cola, you turn it over. It's lot of sugar. yeah. Another Coca-Cola, another Coca-Cola. Hey, it's done. and then another one that that ⁓ I'm not good at, basic home maintenance. Now I can paint and I was an art teacher. You can really mow your art, Tony. I have good outdoor skills too. But if there's something in the house that needs fixed. My wife would always call her dad. I'm like, you know, some of these things I could have did and you make me look stupid. Because your dad's thinking, I can't believe I said that he could marry you. He can't do this. But it's good to have him around 'cause he is good at that stuff. Are you good at am very handy, Tony. I ⁓ And 'cause I like to tinker with things. So anything that breaks and stuff like that, ⁓ I first try to fix it myself. If it doesn't work out then I look for another solution. But I always try to do that and I love doing it. So I I like at I can say that I can fix almost anything in the house, but I will not mow along. Unless I really have to. And if you've ever driven by his place, you you'll you'll understand what he's talking about. And I just don't think he appreciates the fun part of it. He doesn't see any fun in that. You know, I would rather Well, doesn't even make sense, but I just thought of this. I would rather putting a sprinkler system than actually mow the lawn. Or watch it sprinkle the grass. Yes. But if you put the sprinkler system in, wouldn't you be proud of watching it water the grass? No, because I already did the task of putting it in. It doesn't I'm that guy that gets done and I like to sit and look at it because I'm proud of it. my yard looks good. ⁓ It's long before Better Homes and Gardens will be out here taking pictures. But you know, I I mowed the other night across the road and I do that to just to help the Lake Association get paid for it. I just like it to look nice. And it number one, it's across from my house. Number two, less coyotes over there. And when we had a little dog, that kinda scares ya. But I like how it looks. And so I I get done and I I get on the range and I'll ride around looking at it and I look at my yard and I'm proud of those things. Yeah. Because I did it and it's immediate gratification. I mean that you do get to appreciate that type type of stuff. And I do appreciate the you know, whenever I mow the the lawn, I I don't sit there and look at it for that long, but I do think I'm like, Wow, I did a good job. Now, I know being in the military, this was probably a big thing that they probably taught you because if you are in a combat zone, you have to have some first aid skills. yeah. I went through medical training for sure. And then being a teacher and a coach. You know, I I had that too, you know, and ⁓ and then when you have especially coaching and you have athletic injuries and you and you kind of learn back before they had all the trainers and the free clinics that kids could go into, I mean, you were just dealing with some of that on your own. so I learned quite a bit about, you know, if you sprain an ankle, you know, the first two days you're icing, and then after that we can do hot cold treatment, which speeds up the process of healing. but you learn things like that. You learn how to tape an injury, you know, and those kind of things, which I think are important. But I also had to do CPR training as a teacher. And good. I don't know that ⁓ if if it was me down, I don't know if I'd want me giving me C PR. ⁓ But I have, you know, training in that and I I do think it's important. You know, some people think that in the military they'll they'll teach you C PR, which is interesting interestingly enough, they they don't teach you C PR because I mean, if you're a combat zone, CPR is gonna be the last thing, you know, you you might have to worry about. yeah, I I've never been in that situation and I don't know, but another big basic managing your time. ⁓ Yes. ⁓ It something very hard to do. And it really is a hard skill and is very difficult, but is one of the best skills you should learn how to do. Because managing time is one of the greatest things when it comes to actually having a good work schedule. And what do we do that that way we can keep track of everything? Put it on their calendar. It's on the calendar. Everything's on the calendar. Every haircuts are on the calendar. Haircut is on the calendar. Our amigos on the go is on the calendar. dentist appointment is on the calendar too. Which he has to leave pretty soon. Yeah. That's gonna be fun. But The thing that that's good about that ⁓ somebody asks us, hey, can you guys come do this? First thing we do, pull up the calendar because everything's on there. And it helps us to stay organized. It helps us to stay to you know committed to things. ⁓ Hey, can't do that because we got to be here. And so we don't overschedule. and then there's days we we don't have things on the calendar and you think, ⁓ we got more time and it just fills in as the day goes on. You know, you'd be surprised how fast things get packed into the calendar on a daily basis. And for for us, most of the time y we know that our mornings are kind of busy, so we always have to look in the calendar to see if we have time to do something in the morning. But otherwise we know that mornings are are busy, but throughout the day, I mean, we just think, ⁓ you know, today's gonna be an easy day. We don't have a lot on the plate. And then for some reason, boom It's just act. Meetings tend to pop up. Yep. Those kind because we have some time. Hey, can you guys meet today? Yeah, we got we got this this afternoon. And so best advice I can give you, use a calendar. ⁓ if you got you know, everybody's got a phone now. Guess what? It's got a calendar on there. You can go on and schedule things and it's real easy. Then it helps you keep things organized. Plus it gives you the reminders. Yes. ⁓ those are so appreciated. Yes. So another thing I think is a basic skill, emotional intelligence. Yes. Again, probably one of my weaknesses. I think I am good at reading people emotionally. You know, I can I can tell by their body expressions and they're saying things, you know, kind of what kind of mood they're in. And I'm sure they can get the same thing for me. I I I have tendency, my daughters tell me I make a lot of facial expressions. And sometimes I don't even know I'm doing. very good ⁓ expressing with his face ⁓ sure. And his words. And words, for sure. emotional intelligence something that is it doesn't come naturally. I think most people have to work on that ⁓ and I've on it quite a bit. And I'm not very bothered by a lot of things. ⁓ So I I've made pretty good pace with my emotional intelligence. but most people really need to on that. I think is something that's important. So you don't just, you know, brisk relationships. You blow up on people, you know. it's kinda hard. It is kinda hard. It takes a lot of patience to deal with it. But emotional intelligence is a great skill. ⁓ know, one thing I've noticed ⁓ ⁓ you know, having worked in a school and an athletic director and now in community relations and One thing that I've noticed in a job especially is the ability to take responsibility for mistakes. the the the worst thing in the world that you can do is, ⁓ this was this guy's fault or I didn't ⁓ didn't do that. ⁓ couldn't have been me. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just own it. You know, you just say, Yeah, I did that and obviously I didn't do it right and so I'll get better. I'll I'll I'll fix it. And the ability to say that, a lot of times, number one, when you're getting chewed on for that, if you just say, It's my fault, I'll I'll fix it, I'll be better, that's done. You know, and the more you deny or make excuses, the longer that goes it it ⁓ to make ⁓ even angrier. ⁓ yeah. You know, so ⁓ that, ⁓ know, you make any mistakes, but I don't make mistakes, don't I? but you know, one of the things that I was thinking of is that the one time or the the the only moment that I know my emotional intelligence fails me is when I'm hungry. I when I'm hungry I ⁓ emotion emotional intelligence just goes down the drain and I get I get a little ⁓ a little angry. And you know that's That's not really just emotional, that's body chemistry too. Yeah. When your body's hungry and you what do they call that? Hangry. Yeah. Yeah. And being a diabetic, that affects me. You know, if I don't eat and I'm normally used to eating at this time, I start to get like that. it's my body that's you know telling you to eat. Yeah, I need something. And the so sometimes that's you know, it's not just being able to control that, it's the chemistry in your body. I think a a good skill to have is being able to show empathy. yes. I think the world nowadays needs to be able to show a little more empathy. There's a difference between, you know, being nice all the time ⁓ just showing empathy for others when you need to. And there's in time where you gotta know, hey, you know, maybe this is not the best place for me to say this. Maybe let's just compromise and show a little empathy. And ⁓ you know, the other thing about that is ⁓ the ability just to try and understand why somebody feels the way they do. And and that's where the listening skills are good. Is being able to listen to what they're saying and understand that. It doesn't mean you agree. It just means you're able to listen and understand from their point of view why they might be feeling like that. Yeah. It's not about me, it's about them, you know, at that moment. Another thing I think you have to be able to do is handle some criticism. Yes. I think especially in business. I think in business you have to be able to understand that not everybody's gonna see the ways you the the the see the things you do ⁓ you know, just align with what you're thinking. So you gotta s you gotta take some of that. I think the hard part is if you take a lot of pride in what you do and then somebody tells you you didn't do a great job with it, that kinda hurts because I did work hard at it. I did try hard. And there, you know, one of the hardest things I had as a student is when that teacher think you didn't work very hard at it and you actually did. And but they think, ⁓ this was the easy way. I had put a lot of time into that. And I had a drawing class one time and ⁓ that comment was made and I had really worked hard on these drawings. And you know, but you have to be able to understand sometimes that's not meant to hurt me, it's meant to help me. And so you you have to listen to what's being said and then process that and then try and take the good out of it of just hearing the negative. Because it's so easy to hear the negative that sometimes we have to once we hear that, then you shut down all the good things being said too. Well, the the negative is just always is the easiest thing that comes to mind, right? When people ask you what is something good that happened to you today, I think most people kind of get stuck and say, What did happen to me? That that was good today. But if you ask ⁓ what ha what went bad today, they'll tell you something right away. You know, and and I think something I've gotten better at over the years, and I I think I had a hard time. My my father was never gonna apologize for anything. though he may have known that he was wrong, he's just he's not going to. He's an old school guy and very stubborn. Took a lot of pride in things and and he was not good at that. ⁓ think as I got older I understand. Sometimes me apologizing, it's just not that person that maybe I bothered or upset or hurt. It makes me feel better too because I said it. And I knew I was wrong. And it and then the be ⁓ the to come back later and say, Hey, I'm sorry about that. You know, I ⁓ I was wrong there and jumped to conclusions and and I that's a good skill to have is being able to say I'm sorry. Taking responsibility for sure. Yeah, and then then you move on. you can only choose one skill. Everyone should learn instantly when they're born. What's that one skill? I think emotional intelligence is one of them. And I like that. I think that's ⁓ it ⁓ can apply to so many things. I a good skill in and it's the one I probably we've talked about it, and I've always really emphasized it to my kids, is communication. Being able to talk to people, not being afraid to to express yourself. ⁓ being able to look ⁓ in the eye when you're talking to ⁓ so that they understand, you know, that you're serious or you're listening. you know, it's not just when you're talking, but ⁓ think you communicating is just gonna take you so far in your life if you're a good communicator. And and it it's the first step, I think, to being successful is somebody who really has good skills with that. Yep. And I think that it's good to remember, you know, that Not everybody has the same skill sets that you do, and not everybody can go at the same pace that you you can. So it's always great to remind yourself that you can't judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. You know, it just doesn't work that way. What do you think the easiest skill is to learn? Easiest skill to learn. think basic life skills are pretty easy because they're the basic, you know. I think and once you learn your basic life skills, just easier to pick up on other skills that come with it. I I'd have to say listening is I don't have to give you input back, but I can sit and listen to you. And sometimes they feel better just being able to say what they want to say. And again, I said I'm not always great at that. but Just being able to listen to somebody sometimes it helps you understand, but it also makes them feel better. And I don't think that's a hard skill. You don't have to be gifted to to be a listener to somebody who can just sit and listen to somebody. Some people just need that. would you say it takes a lifetime to master? What skill? Oof. Communication's a skill that it's it's hard to master because you have to be constantly working on it. some people are great at it just ⁓ of the gate, but some people have to really work on it. See, and ⁓ the skill we talked about that I think takes the longest to learn is the financial. You know, in and I'm talking, you know, I'm not talking basic budget and things. I'm talking about investing your money. although there are people that you can come have work with you that help you with that, which is what I'd have to do. Because I I still don't understand. I just want I want to give this amount. You tell me what's the best way to do this. So it's good to have that. But as you go through life, you know, the hard part is when you're young, I think there tomorrow's so far away, you know, and and the future's so far away and you realize how fast it goes. Mm-hmm. And then you're here and you want to live this kind of life. And I wish I would have had these better s skills at this. I think we did pretty good when we were young. ⁓ I had people telling me you should be doing this and and that's why we did. But I think that's the hardest thing because you continue as you go through life to learn why this is important. ⁓ And when you get to my age now and you say, you know, I'd like to be able to retire someday. But that that I think that takes a long time. to figure out all those things. So there's many things, you know, as we go through life, this the skills that you you have to get through to today, you know, and and then you look towards tomorrow. There's so many things we can learn. ⁓ the biggest thing is always continuing to learn. And it's never too late to try and do something. It's too late to learn how to be a better communicator, how to, how to learn basic skills like I could probably learn cooking. But I probably could. And so I think just every day try and be a better person, try and try and learn something. And then always be open to suggestions that hey, sometimes people are just trying to help, you know, and and sometimes you don't want to hear that. But having somebody who has experience and knowledge of those things can really help you grow as a person. And you know, I think it's important to know that you should not take everything head on. And if you want to learn skills, that's great, but don't try to learn everything at once. Just take little steps. That will pile up and it'll be great for you. then always remember this. I'm gonna leave you with this. Don't believe everything you read on the internet or every piece of information that you get there. And I think that's a problem today that everybody thinks all that's true. Sometimes it's not. So look into it a little more. But It's been great being with you today on the pit stop with the Deers for Lincoln Auto Amigos. You know, I hope you learned some skill sets maybe try to focus on some of them. Always fun to listen to Fernando give his perspective most of the time. ⁓ see you next time. All right, take care.
