- 0:00The B -Side and Boxing. B -Side shit. B -Side.
- 0:04B -Side. And the B -Side. You got a B -Side.
- 0:06The B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. The B
- 0:10-Side thing. This is the B -Sides Boxing Podcast.
- 0:20Alright. Here we go. Boxing B -Sides. The crew
- 0:27has assembled yet again. Saul, Josh, how are
- 0:30you guys doing? I am ecstatic. I'm so excited
- 0:35for this week. It is a busy week indeed. Very
- 0:41good weekend. I'm going to have Josh back. Yes.
- 0:46We're going to go at it. We're going to go at
- 0:50it next time when I get to either cope or lord
- 0:53it over you until the end of time. I'm going
- 0:59to try and be like, no, see, I wasn't talking
- 1:02that much shit retroactively. If things go sideways.
- 1:06He's going to have to reprint a retraction. Copyright
- 1:11claim the episode if Nakatani loses. Copyright
- 1:17claim. Say something about Sir Music. Hey, I
- 1:21will have you know that I have explicit permission
- 1:24from the artist to use their stuff. We'll tell
- 1:29that to Kendrick Lamar. Oh yeah, that one time
- 1:32I used the Kendrick Lamar song. That was fun.
- 1:39It was up for like two months before it got the
- 1:42copyright claim. That's actually a pretty good
- 1:47time. Yeah. Well, we don't have... There is MMA
- 1:54stuff going on, but we don't give a shit about
- 1:55that right now because there's way too much good
- 1:57boxing. But if you want to hear the MMA chatter,
- 2:00ultimate effing casuals, I expect those guys
- 2:03are more excited about the boxing as well. Yeah,
- 2:06I was going to say, this is a bit of a... This
- 2:08is a boxing weekend. Heavy boxing weekend. Shanada's
- 2:13there. Shout out Shanada, who is actually at
- 2:16our crown jewel of this weekend. We got Shanada
- 2:21on the ground. Yeah, she got that sick jacket.
- 2:26Oh, you're right. That jacket is fire. You're
- 2:31going to see me so hyped. Before we get to the
- 2:35fights, a little bit of news. Fucking a little
- 2:38bit. A lot of news. A little bit? This is half
- 2:41a page. Yeah. Really quickly, the boxing survey
- 2:45continues. bxng .co slash survey. And you've
- 2:49heard me ramble on about the Muhammad Ali Revival
- 2:52Act. LVXmedia .net slash bsides. Find your senator's
- 2:57contact info and then use my blurb. Don't use
- 3:00it. I don't really care. Just make contact and
- 3:03that'll really help. Make yourself heard because
- 3:05this is a serious issue affecting our sport.
- 3:08Are we going to be able to talk about this in
- 3:10a hearing, by the way? I don't... Not right now,
- 3:15just because we've got a lot of news to get through
- 3:17and then we've got a lot of big fights coming
- 3:19up. It's also a bit of an evolving situation.
- 3:22But I do want to talk about, like, De La Hoya
- 3:25and Nico Oli Walsh. Oli Walsh, yeah. He comported
- 3:29himself really well. I'm actually, I was actually
- 3:31pretty proud. Yeah. He represented us nicely.
- 3:35Talk about another day. Yeah. Maybe even next
- 3:37week. Yeah, I think next week will be better
- 3:39when we have a little bit more time. Anthony
- 3:43Joshua versus Tyson Fury is going down in Q4.
- 3:50I'm so sure. I'm so sure this is happening. This
- 3:54has happened multiple times. The Ring Magazine
- 3:58is announcing it, if that lends it any credence.
- 4:02The Ring Magazine also announced Mike Tyson and
- 4:05Floyd Mayweather Jr. That's supposed to be in
- 4:08two weeks, isn't it? Yeah. I thought it was supposed
- 4:12to have already happened. Well, that shows. How
- 4:19credible this source really is. You don't take
- 4:23Mike Coppinger's word as gospel? Oh, I got it.
- 4:29What is it? Was it Brandon Rios that said he
- 4:31looked a little homophobic slur in the face?
- 4:34If we remember. Yeah, I remember that was Brandon
- 4:39Rios. Brandon Rios said that, right? Yeah. Bam,
- 4:42bam. Yeah, I found it. I told Brandon Rios he
- 4:47looks drawn in the face. Told me I look a little
- 4:50homophobic slur in the face. A little British
- 4:54cigarette in the face? Yeah. That's not very
- 4:58nice. Well, it's funny. Brandon Rios probably
- 5:03looked fine. There was no reason to say that
- 5:06to him, right? Robert Garcia, why would you ever
- 5:10let your man do this? One thing that is certain,
- 5:18though, is AJ's comeback fight. He's facing Christian
- 5:21Prenga of Albania. The Albanian Dave Allen. All
- 5:30right. I think I might think about fat ass because
- 5:33I know people were saying that he's facing someone
- 5:37named Pregnant. My first thing I thought of was
- 5:39he's facing someone named Pringles. I thought
- 5:41Pringles too. I guess it tracks him. I found
- 5:46out because of a quote retweet that said he's
- 5:49facing the Albanian Dave Allen with a highlight
- 5:54tape of the opponent. And it's the crustiest
- 5:57footage you'll ever see. And he does look like
- 6:00Dave Allen fighting. Hey, you never know. You
- 6:05never know in boxing. One punch can change anything.
- 6:11But yeah, we'll see how soon that's going to
- 6:15happen. That one's going to happen in Saudi Arabia,
- 6:18which I guess is fine considering it's kind of
- 6:21a nothing opponent. But as long as AJ Fury's
- 6:26in the UK, I'm cool. Tim Zhu drops his whole
- 6:33ass team. And he's going to be training with
- 6:38Jeff Fennec. Yeah, he dropped him again. Sorry,
- 6:42I had to read the again part. Being like, again,
- 6:45right. Yep. So I was saying to Shanada that this
- 6:51reminds me of when Oscar De La Hoya would lose.
- 6:56He would change his camps around. And he'd get
- 6:59new trainers and stuff. Or new coaches. And it's
- 7:03a lack. I think it's a lack of introspection
- 7:07where in Tim's mind, the problem can never, it
- 7:13could not possibly be me. I'm not, it's not my
- 7:17fault that I keep getting these nasty ass cuts.
- 7:20It's not my fault that I lose, get fucking slimed
- 7:25by some no -name Russian. It cannot be my fault.
- 7:33I thought when he went to the Cuban trainer,
- 7:36I thought that was... Yeah, he looked... It was
- 7:40a good move, I thought. Yeah, it was pretty good.
- 7:44It would shore up some of his deficiencies, like
- 7:47his defensive lapses. But now he drops them again
- 7:52after one fight. Like, dude, you need to get
- 7:56some consistency in your life. Well, I don't
- 8:02think his name is Tim Consistency Zoo. That's
- 8:06never happening, guys. Sorry. Yeah, and it doesn't
- 8:11help that his brother's starting to catch up.
- 8:14No, man. Do you think these brothers ever fight?
- 8:19No. Never. I don't think so. They're probably
- 8:22headlining with each other like the Charlo's.
- 8:23Yeah, that I can see. Gotta boost the career
- 8:27of Nikita with the name of Tim. I'm surprised
- 8:33they haven't done that already. Like in Australia,
- 8:37at least. Yeah. Robacy Ramirez signs with this
- 8:46organization I've never heard of, Raised Boxing.
- 8:50No idea who that is, but... At least it's not
- 8:54Zufa. Which is probably where he belongs anyways.
- 8:58That might be a good move for him. This organization's
- 9:04Instagram page was created five days ago. So
- 9:08maybe Robesi signed with his own? They appear
- 9:12to be an Uzbek promotion. Why the fuck would
- 9:17this Cuban Olympian go to... Like, they're signing,
- 9:22like, Middle Eastern and, like, far Eastern European
- 9:25guys. Yeah, Central Asian type guys. Well, they're
- 9:28trying to boogeyman Max. Yeah, that's true. To
- 9:32be fair, you build the guys up locally and then
- 9:35cash them out, rinse and repeat is not a bad
- 9:38strategy. They're going to post videos online
- 9:41with some silly audio in the background of them
- 9:44getting knockouts over some fucking locals. Oh
- 9:48my god, this guy's the next one. He's going to
- 9:50knock out Andrew Maloney or some shit like that.
- 9:56Hey, respect the Maloney brothers. That, at least
- 10:00Andrew, to me, he's the credible one. Yeah. Jason's
- 10:05a fucking weirdo. Yeah, the one who lost to Junto
- 10:10is the one that I hold as a credible one for
- 10:15agenda reasons. One day you're going to get a
- 10:19Uzbek that they put on saying... This is the
- 10:22guy that knocked out Isaac Chalumba the fastest
- 10:25in under 10 seconds. They already did that. They
- 10:28did it with a Cuban. Yeah, they just did that.
- 10:32Oh, well. In under 9 seconds. Isaac Chalumba.
- 10:40Oh, man. He'll go down in history. At least in
- 10:44Discord history. That's Goop, man. Dreamface?
- 10:51Yeah. Sorry, I gotta look at the image again.
- 10:58We got Dalton Smith pulling out of his fight
- 11:02in June. Undisclosed injury. Now, not to take
- 11:11a total shit on him, but this is the suspicious
- 11:15guy has power out of nowhere, mistimes his cycle,
- 11:20and fakes an injury. tinfoil hat there is potential
- 11:23for that to be the case interesting but that
- 11:28that's more of a like this happens a little too
- 11:32frequently for me to like fully believe undisclosed
- 11:35injury yeah wasn't calum smith out with an undisclosed
- 11:40injury yes and i mean alleged well you know okoli's
- 11:46whole excuse was the bicep that was undisclosed
- 11:48until the drug failure And then suddenly he had
- 11:52torn biceps. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's
- 11:55not the fact that you're injured and pulling
- 11:56out, whatever that happens. You can get hit by
- 12:00a car on your way to the fight type thing. You
- 12:03can slip in the bathtub. But undisclosed is the
- 12:07part that I'm like, okay, maybe we should be
- 12:11a little suspicious. Yeah, because why wouldn't
- 12:15they want to disclose it? It's a needle stick
- 12:17injury. I mean, obviously, if they can make the
- 12:20case that they do the fight later on, then they
- 12:22know where to, you know, attack. But if it's
- 12:26something like, you know, you fucking, you tore
- 12:29your ass or some shit like that, I don't know.
- 12:31Yeah, like, I don't know, like, anal fissures?
- 12:33Like, there's no way. Yeah, like, come on. Yeah.
- 12:38I agree with Josh here that it seems pretty fishy.
- 12:42Guy gets power out of nowhere. We'll see. Maybe
- 12:47I missed. Being a Matthias apologist. Xander
- 12:52Zayas re -signs with Top Rank. Well, he extends
- 12:57his contract multi -year, multi -fight. Interesting
- 13:02move. Bad move from Top Rank. I think they would
- 13:06have gotten him really cheap right after Boots
- 13:09rips in the pieces. That or they really believe
- 13:14the guy. It seems like they really believe in
- 13:17him. Realistically, if you're the usual slimy
- 13:20promoter, you already know you're sending him
- 13:23out to die. You just extend him when his value
- 13:26is at an all -time low for cheap. Maybe that
- 13:29was the reason. They can see it. Maybe they made
- 13:35him take the fight, and if he took the fight,
- 13:37then they would sign another deal. Maybe that's
- 13:40why they did it. I don't know. But it is pretty
- 13:44interesting they did it before the fight happened.
- 13:47Seemed like, if anything, that he was going to
- 13:48get dropped by the promotional company. They
- 13:50were just letting him get slaughtered by boots.
- 13:54So then they cut their losses or something. I
- 13:57don't know. But it is an interesting move. I'm
- 14:03sure they have outs. That's true. They usually
- 14:07build shit like that in where, like, if you drop
- 14:10the ball too many times in a row, like, they
- 14:12can cut you. They have guys around the weight,
- 14:15too, that they could probably feed Sias to. Rebuild
- 14:19him. Yeah. Like, there's profits. He's Puerto
- 14:24Rican and pretty popular, so. And 22. He's very
- 14:27young. Yeah, so that's not bad. It's just that,
- 14:30like, you could have waited. Unless you really
- 14:37believe in him, you could have waited to get
- 14:39him at a bargain price. Very interesting top
- 14:44rank moves, I'll tell you. I've not seen a move
- 14:47like this. Yeah, I didn't see this coming. Not
- 14:51right now, anyway. What about Bam? He was re
- 14:55-signing with Matchroom. It's a multi -fight
- 14:58deal that is going to extend about three years.
- 15:02So it's most likely that... it'll extend to the
- 15:06end of his career because Bam intends to retire
- 15:10pretty early. It's a pretty good move, I will
- 15:14say. I mean, Matchroom has been getting the biggest
- 15:17fights, the biggest paydays. Yeah, at his weight
- 15:18class. Exactly, why go somewhere else? And it's
- 15:22in the same sphere as Inoue Nakatani, the take
- 15:25on loser, winner, whatever. Exactly. Why not
- 15:28both? Speaking of torn biceps, Jared Anderson
- 15:33is out. of the may 9th card with a torn biceps
- 15:36with a disclosed injury yeah you see how do you
- 15:40see how to do it belton you see what and then
- 15:44this was the injury well that's because we're
- 15:46american he's american it's it's a it seems uh
- 15:50like a kind of a trend that's the british cultural
- 15:53thing yeah the british guys are not saying anything
- 15:56they're being sneaky about it i've never thought
- 15:59about it but you're right they don't ever really
- 16:01disclose Unless the fighter has been living and
- 16:08training in the U .S., then they do. But Brits,
- 16:13for the most part, don't say why they're pulling
- 16:16out of fights. Maybe it's the British Boxing
- 16:18Board of Control regulation where they don't
- 16:21have to. Yeah, that's what I was thinking as
- 16:23well. Yeah. Let's see here. The IBF ordered...
- 16:31Teofimo Lopez versus Lindolfo Delgado for their
- 16:34vacant 140 title. Teofimo rejects it and says
- 16:38welterweight division take notice. Oh, Jesus.
- 16:45I don't know what he's going to do up there,
- 16:47but I'll tell you this, that Lindolfo is getting
- 16:51a pretty easy shot at a title for the first time
- 16:55in his career at, what, 32? I think he's going
- 17:00to be fighting Uzbek with a mediocre record.
- 17:04Yeah. And that's giving him some grace as well.
- 17:08I don't know. Obviously, Teofimo's probably going
- 17:10to want to fight either Ryan or Haney at 147.
- 17:15I feel like neither of them are going to be,
- 17:17especially Haney. I don't think he's going to
- 17:20fight Haney. The most, I would say, likely option
- 17:24would be Ryan. But even it seems that Ryan's...
- 17:27in negotiations with Ben right now. A lot of
- 17:30contradicting points about Ryan Garcia's future
- 17:35opponent, though. Because Ryan himself said that
- 17:38he's going to be fighting Teofimo on the screen.
- 17:40I mean, do with that as you will, but Ring Magazine
- 17:43and all these other boxing news outlets are saying
- 17:45that Ryan and Ben are in early negotiations.
- 17:49So you don't know what to believe. For Teofimo,
- 17:53I mean, again, not many offers at 147. You could
- 17:57fight Ryan Norman Jr. That's an easy WBO top
- 18:01-ranked guy if you want to go for that WBO. Which
- 18:05he will, being a top -ranked guy. Yeah. Obviously,
- 18:09Devin Haney has a WBO, so he could just kind
- 18:13of hold on to that position as a mandatory challenger.
- 18:17I don't know. There's many ways he can go. Of
- 18:21all the many ways that he can go, though, I don't
- 18:24see very many of them going well. His power was
- 18:31good at 135. It was okay, I guess, at 140. But
- 18:38moving up to the full 47, I really don't think
- 18:42he's going to have the power to keep guys away
- 18:45from him. Even Devin Haney would walk through
- 18:48it. I don't know. I feel as if... I think this
- 18:54most winnable fight would either be against Lewis
- 18:56Kroc or Roley Romero, but those are kind of given.
- 18:58Probably Roley Romero would be his most likely
- 19:01option for a fight, given how they kind of teased
- 19:04in the past. That would be some... The build
- 19:07-up would be pretty insane. Let's see here. Sebastian
- 19:11Fandora and Jermel Charlo negotiations are in
- 19:14preliminary stages. This is a good fight. Maybe
- 19:20a couple years ago. I think it's a good fight
- 19:23now, still. Like, Jermel hasn't done much, but
- 19:27also, like, I don't think he's so unbelievably
- 19:30washed. Just because he's not as indisciplined
- 19:34as his brother. Well, again, when was the last
- 19:38time Jermel even fought? Canelo. And how long
- 19:41ago was that? A while ago, but he's also... I
- 19:45just think he's not... He hasn't had that track
- 19:47record of being as, like, horribly indisciplined
- 19:50as Jermall outside of the ring. No, but, I mean,
- 19:54it's been three years since he fought Canelo.
- 19:56Obviously, Reign of Rust is going to take over.
- 19:58He's 35. It's not like he's young right now.
- 19:59Yeah. I just don't think... I think there's worse
- 20:02fights at 154. 100%. Oh, no, I agree, but...
- 20:07I mean, you have the old king versus the new
- 20:09king. That's how... The PBC can sell it like
- 20:13that, but at the end of the day, it's... Again,
- 20:16we don't really want to see them. Who else is
- 20:18available? Let's think about it. Virgil's in
- 20:21court. 154. Virgil's in court. Ennis and Zayas
- 20:25are fighting. Josh Kelly's fighting someone else.
- 20:29Is he? Who is he? I think he's thrown to his
- 20:34mandatory or a rematch. So Kelly's out. And then
- 20:39you have... Madrimov, who just fought. You have
- 20:46Tim Zhu, who just shook up his entire team and
- 20:49is still being rebuilt. And then you have a bunch
- 20:53of guys who are about the same as fighting Jermel.
- 20:55Tim Zhu Trilogy, though? No, thank you. Yeah,
- 20:58that's what I'm saying. You have Tim Zhu Trilogy,
- 21:02Madrimov, who isn't on the same schedule, or
- 21:05you basically go to the level of opponent that
- 21:08Jermel is. I got one young guy, obviously, but
- 21:12has lost. Ioannis Tejas. He just fought on a
- 21:15PPC card against Brian Mendoza. That's not a
- 21:18bad shout, actually. That is a good one. I mean,
- 21:21again, it's not the best fight, but it's a fight
- 21:24against a young guy. Is he cozied up enough with,
- 21:27like, the belts for it to make sense for, like,
- 21:29a fundora defense? I'm not too sure. I think,
- 21:32well, he was going the WBA route. He wasn't going
- 21:36to WPC. So I'm not sure. By the way, it's thanks
- 21:39to PPC. Oh, yeah. So. You have to consider, like,
- 21:44I'm like, it's best available opponent considering
- 21:46the fact that, like, the fights we actually want
- 21:50to see with Fandora are just unavailable at the
- 21:53moment. Or that they're not going to happen at
- 21:56all because PBC is not going to let him out of
- 21:58the stable like that. Tejas is 13th in the PBC.
- 22:03Tejas could. Tejas could. I'm actually not going
- 22:06to blame the PBC for that. Pretty disingenuous
- 22:08to say. It's more so his manager. What's his
- 22:11name? Fandora's handlers have treated him like
- 22:13that. Yeah. Yeah, they're holding him back. He's
- 22:16not held by Samson. He is Samson. Oh, yeah. Yeah,
- 22:21Samson. Samson Lukowitz, yeah. He's held back
- 22:24by Samson Lukowitz. So, the fact that they're
- 22:28guarding him like that, they're obviously not
- 22:30comfortable with him fighting any of the other
- 22:32top guys because, I mean, you see Samson letting
- 22:34out someone like David Benavidez. He's even letting
- 22:37out, when he had him, he let out Edwin. You know?
- 22:44Samson is just kind of safeguarding him for a
- 22:46reason. You know, he's pretty safe at PPC. They're
- 22:50going to keep fitting him low to your opposition.
- 22:52And Jermel, yes, he was undisputed. And yes,
- 22:57he was pretty great during his heyday. But his
- 23:02heyday was five years ago. His last fight with
- 23:06Canelo, he was sad, to say the least. And he
- 23:11went up to 168. I mean, come on. The Charlo's
- 23:15keep broad -dogging it with getting title shots
- 23:18these days, I tell you. Would you say that Jermell
- 23:23is the lineal champion? He's been away for a
- 23:26while, but he did... Lineal really can only be
- 23:29followed in divisions where people don't hop
- 23:31weight classes, I'd say. Like, yes, he is technically
- 23:35lineal at 154, but he did also hop up to 168
- 23:41the one time. Well, who did he beat before that
- 23:47would give him that lineal status? Yeah, I just...
- 23:53Would it be, what, Trout? Was it him or his brother
- 23:58that beat Trout? I know Jermel beat Trout. He
- 24:03was a chick. Yeah, he did in June of 18. Yeah.
- 24:07I just think, like, unless it's heavyweight,
- 24:10like, it's really hard. It's not worth tracking
- 24:12lineal. Yeah. But, because. Just trying to legitimize
- 24:17this in some way. Well, it's just best available.
- 24:21Like, it's better name, best available opponent.
- 24:27That, like, is realistic for a fundura, so. Yeah.
- 24:32I mean, again, it's not horrible, but it's also...
- 24:35Yeah, like, it's not... Come on. It's not travesty,
- 24:37but also, like, you need to get your career going
- 24:39a bit more than this. Yeah. Because, I mean,
- 24:43does a Charlo fight really sell now? Maybe if
- 24:47you did it in Houston. Yeah, I was about to say,
- 24:50it depends where it is. Because, I mean, the
- 24:54thing with Sebastian Fornora is he can't really
- 24:56sell in his hometown because his hometown doesn't
- 25:00really have a lot of... It's not a big sports
- 25:04area. It's Coachella. They do a lot of cards
- 25:08in Indio. In Indio, yes, but in Indio, they don't
- 25:11really have any stadiums, kind of what I'm saying.
- 25:13Oh, yeah, it's just casinos. They have the small
- 25:15rooms. Yeah, exactly. They don't have the huge
- 25:17stadiums. They could maybe sell at Anaheim, but,
- 25:26I mean, again, he would have to be in Jermel's
- 25:29home turf. And yeah, they would sell tickets,
- 25:32but pay -per -view, I don't know. Agit Caballel
- 25:35scraps his TBA fight that was supposed to be
- 25:40in May, and he will be waiting for his mandatory
- 25:43shot against Usyk. You guys think this is a good
- 25:46move? Will the WBC enforce it? Right. You said
- 25:51Agit Caballel enforces his mandatory status to
- 25:55fight Usyk? Yeah, but will the WBC enforce it?
- 25:58Will they honor the... The call from Caballel.
- 26:03I'm going to say it again. Caballel activates
- 26:06his mandatory status as a WBC mandatory challenger.
- 26:11It's the WBC we're talking here. I was going
- 26:13to say, the WBC, will they actually honor this
- 26:16and do it? The answer is no. Nothing's going
- 26:20to happen. It's sad. That's the saddest thing
- 26:23about this whole Zufa versus Belts divide because,
- 26:28again, we love... our side of the sport, but
- 26:31then you have shit like this going on with Ajit
- 26:33Kabayel and Usyk, and then you have Sebastian
- 26:36Fundora and Virgil. And it's frustrating because,
- 26:40yes, we know Zufa sucks, but even over here,
- 26:43it's not great. Shanada did point out something
- 26:48that I thought was interesting, and it's that
- 26:50Usyk is not afraid to drop a title. He's done
- 26:54it twice. He's going to do it again. Either that
- 26:58or he retires. There's literally no one else
- 27:01for him to fight. Unless he wants a hard challenger
- 27:03like Edge of Cabello. Do that in Germany, it
- 27:05would sell like gangbusters. But it's not going
- 27:09to happen, I don't think. Yeah, I don't think
- 27:10so either. We'll see him fight someone like Wilder.
- 27:14If he even fights again. I think he will. Wilder
- 27:17just got the win over Chizora. So that's nice.
- 27:25And he's the only name that he's like of the
- 27:27Mount Rushmore of the of the heavyweight generation.
- 27:30The only one he doesn't have is Wilder. Yeah.
- 27:36But yeah, I don't I don't see Caballel getting
- 27:40his shot. Unfortunately. Speaking of shots, Kenneth
- 27:47Lover versus Michael Angeletti for the IBF bantamweight.
- 27:53It's an eliminator. And it'll be on June 6th.
- 27:58This was more of a Shinada line. Yes. And Luis
- 28:02Neri, John Real Casimiro, same day, June 6th.
- 28:07I don't think they're going to be at the same
- 28:09place, though. BAM is facing Antonio Vargas in
- 28:13Phoenix, June 13th. I will indeed be there. It's
- 28:18going to be a... Pretty fun fight for the first
- 28:21couple rounds. The guy gets knocked out again.
- 28:25And Zufa, they're going to be putting on an event
- 28:28outside of the Apex, Southern California. And
- 28:33it looks like Brandon Lee is going to be one
- 28:35of the featured fights. The top three, I think
- 28:38they usually... I wonder who they're going to
- 28:42put as the main. It's got to be Hispanic. Hispanic
- 28:46man. They want to sell. They just signed a bunch
- 28:54of shitty cruiserweights. It's possible. Floyd
- 28:58Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao is back on. It is
- 29:04a fully sanctioned bout. I know the world was
- 29:09waiting to hear more news about that. Like it's
- 29:14going to happen? It's going to happen, guys.
- 29:17It's going to happen immediately after the Jerome
- 29:20Miller and Mike Tyson fight. Yeah. And also in
- 29:24June, Floyd Mayweather is fighting Iron Mike.
- 29:31Zambidis. Yeah, like I said, Mike Tyson is going
- 29:36to fight Jerome Miller instead. I'll tell you,
- 29:40it's going to happen. That's it for the news,
- 29:43though. You guys got anything that I missed,
- 29:45maybe? I do want to add on to the point about
- 29:48Dalton Smith and Alberto Puello, that the main
- 29:54has become Galalia Fai and Ricardo Sandoval.
- 29:58Thank you. I just want to add that in. Ricky
- 30:02Sandy. Let's move into the reviews. We don't
- 30:06have a whole lot of them. Let's see. Friday,
- 30:09April 17th, we had MVPW02. The main and co -main
- 30:18are the only ones I really watch, to be honest.
- 30:22Lonnie Daniels put Shadesha Green into the hospital.
- 30:27She had a brain bleed. Apparently, all signs
- 30:30are pointing to that she's okay. I'd just maybe
- 30:34consider... Retirement. Yeah, consider doing
- 30:37something else from this point. And Bob Gardner...
- 30:43Beat the hell out of Bomi Rae Shin. But Shin
- 30:47was super tough. At no point did she even seem
- 30:52to be considering the possibility of the thought
- 30:57of quitting. So, credit to her. Gotta say it
- 31:02was a very fun fight with Alicia Baumgartner.
- 31:05You know what? I'll say this too. I think that
- 31:10Alicia Baumgartner right now... He needs to fight
- 31:13Caroline Dubois. That would be a hell of a fight,
- 31:16and I think it would be probably one of the bigger
- 31:20paydays of her career. The reason I say that
- 31:23also is because it sounds like he doesn't want
- 31:25to mess with Caroline Dubois. She doesn't want
- 31:28any of that smoke. I'm not trying to claim that
- 31:30I'm trying to glaze Caroline Dubois. All I'm
- 31:35saying is what I've seen from the actions of
- 31:39Alicia Bumgarner. I thought it was Baumgartner
- 31:43was the one that was calling for it. It seems
- 31:46as if that, at least from some of the interviews,
- 31:49she's saying that Caroline Dubois needs to go
- 31:53to her, that Baumgartner is the queen. The A
- 31:59-side. Yeah, the A -side. Kind of pricing herself
- 32:04out, in a sense. Lame. Like, she's bigger than
- 32:07that fight. What is she going to do? Undisputed
- 32:11with Caroline Veyer instead? Yeah, I don't know.
- 32:17The next day, Saturday, April 18th, matchroom
- 32:22in Liverpool. Leo Etang went the distance. He
- 32:28got the scoring referee points decision over
- 32:30Victor Chivarku. Meatball Molly McCann looked
- 32:36actually pretty solid. Against Ashley Johnson.
- 32:41Joe McRaele. Knocks out Aaron Hayden. And Ben
- 32:47Whitaker. Knocks out. Brian Suarez. Speaking
- 32:53of Brits with no power. Finding it out of nowhere.
- 32:56I was thinking. This was a good. A better demonstration.
- 33:01I think that Ben Whitaker. Has left the. I'm
- 33:06the next incarnation of Emmanuel Augustus. He's
- 33:10left that behind. He got a stern talking to from
- 33:15Terrence Crawford who told him that you need
- 33:19to stop fucking around so much. You have the
- 33:23talent, so use it. But yeah, that's it. It was
- 33:27a light weekend. Hopefully you found something
- 33:30more entertaining to do where you can be a boxing
- 33:33miscreant. Like us. Anything more for the recaps?
- 33:40Nope, that's about it. On to the previews. Yeah.

- 37:07April 29th. We've got a matchroom card in Melbourne.
- 37:13Or Melbourne Pavilion in Kensington. That's fun.
- 37:20Headline is Sky Nicholson vs. Mariah Turner.
- 37:24And down the bill, Tara Moana vs. Bowie Tupou.
- 37:31And that's about it. Not much to say about that
- 37:35one, I'll tell you. Nope. Friday, May 1st, Provox
- 37:42TV at the Maryland Live Casino in Hanover. Provox,
- 37:52they're going to put on good fights for you.
- 37:54The headline is Sembatar Erdinabat vs. Kobia
- 37:58Breedy. Sembatar is about to graduate from the
- 38:04Provox Academy. And he's going to get himself
- 38:07into the title picture here pretty soon. Just
- 38:09about. I'm going to skip ahead and talk about
- 38:14these first so that we can spend the most time
- 38:16on the big ones. So, Sunday, May 3rd, if you're
- 38:22nursing a hangover, as I might be, maybe, you
- 38:27want some boxing to throw on, to have in the
- 38:30background, you've got Top Tier on DAZN. The
- 38:34only fight that matters to me on this one, Sam
- 38:37Noakes. He's fighting, I think, a guy named Henry
- 38:41Turner. I got switched. It's Benito Sanchez Garcia,
- 38:4517, 19, and 4. Oh, great. A random Mexican out
- 38:51of nowhere. This never goes poorly for Brits.
- 38:55His last 10 are all losses with one draw. Benito?
- 39:00Does he have, like, 17? something no he has five
- 39:06knockouts okay yeah this is the same guy knockouts
- 39:11that would be hilarious this is the same guy
- 39:13yeah since the last time i saw him he was 17
- 39:1817 and 4 and now he's fucking 17 19 and 4 um
- 39:23i was saying this i remember seeing with gary
- 39:26cully that was the yeah we were saying about
- 39:30this like this is the dude that they bring in
- 39:34To help the Brits get over the mental hump. Like,
- 39:37look, you can beat a Mexican. See? They're not
- 39:40all scary fucking monsters. You're right, actually.
- 39:45Holy shit. Look at him. Look at all his fights.
- 39:50The last, like, ten have been Brits. That's so
- 39:58funny. It's just like they bring him in and they're
- 40:00like, hey, just give the guy a confidence booster.
- 40:03This guy's a real Mexican. Come on. Tuesday,
- 40:10May 5th. By the time we reconvene and the time
- 40:14that the episode comes out, this fight will have
- 40:18already passed, so we're having it now. No limit
- 40:21in New South Wales, Australia. The only fight
- 40:27is, like, the main one, Nikita Zu versus Oscar
- 40:30Diaz. Nikita Zu is fighting very often, I'll
- 40:34tell you that. He is keeping himself busy. Yeah.
- 40:38It's very good. Now, on to the prize. Shall we
- 40:46do... Should we save the crown jewel for last,
- 40:49or just go in order of time? I would say save
- 40:53the Crown Jewel for last. Crown Jewel for last.
- 40:56All right, then. First thing, PBC. This one will
- 41:01be on DAZN and Prime, I believe, at the T -Mobile
- 41:05Arena in Las Vegas. The main portion of the card,
- 41:09we've got Oscar Duarte versus Angel Fierro. That
- 41:14is like a low -key fucking barn burner. That's
- 41:20one you shouldn't miss. Yeah, it's going to be
- 41:22very fun. Isaac Lucero versus Alan Sandoval.
- 41:27Armando Resendiz versus Jaime Munguia for the
- 41:30WBA super middleweight title. God, Resendiz,
- 41:33please do this. As much as you want Resendiz
- 41:37to do it, he's going to lose. Munguia. I said
- 41:40I want him to do it. I have faith. I have faith,
- 41:44but I know he's not going to. I will never have
- 41:47faith in Elijah Garcia. Victim. Wow. Or are we
- 41:53really putting our faith in a Bruno Saras victim?
- 41:56Well, Bruno Saras is the best French fighter
- 41:59of all time, so... Jot that down. I honestly
- 42:06think that Resendiz has grown from his loss better
- 42:12than Jaime Munguia did. When Jaime Munguia lost
- 42:15to Canelo, he went off and got fucking sparked.
- 42:19Then he... popped for PEDs in the rematch. And
- 42:25the results of that popping for PEDs was I investigated
- 42:31myself and I found no wrongdoing. Like, are you
- 42:35kidding me? And you didn't even, like, if you're
- 42:38going to take stuff, you should be getting massive
- 42:42knockouts, not boring ass seven to five decisions.
- 42:46I think Resendiz has grown for the better. Yeah.
- 42:50My faith is as strong as paper mache or like
- 42:55a wet paper towel, maybe. But I still believe
- 42:59in Resendiz. Is Munguia still training with Eddie
- 43:05for this fight? As far as I know. Ooh, okay.
- 43:11Never mind. That's going to be even harder. Mong
- 43:13Munguia does not exist. He's dead. Yeah, he might
- 43:18be dead. I don't know. I think Munguia might
- 43:23come out and give us a good showing. I believe
- 43:25so. They will beat Resendiz, but... I don't know.
- 43:30I cannot put my faith in a guy that really lost
- 43:32to Elijah Garcia. I get it. It's a bad loss,
- 43:35man. It really is. I absolutely understand the
- 43:38point. I get the, like, not wanting to put faith
- 43:42in it. He beat Caleb Plant, and that was it.
- 43:46Again, Caleb Plant was on a really good run.
- 43:50Well, not really good, but it was on a decent
- 43:53run. Yeah, I was about to say, a run of determined
- 43:56quality. Yeah. Yeah, he beat up a lot of guys
- 44:01that are mid -tier, but ended up losing to Resendiz,
- 44:05so we shall see. Okay. Oh, shall we see. Gilberto
- 44:12Zerdo Ramirez versus David Benavidez. WBA, WBO,
- 44:17Cruiserweight titles on the line. I'm riding
- 44:23with David Benavidez. I think his hand speed
- 44:26is going to present problems. Ramirez looks really
- 44:30fucking slow since he's moved up. Since he's
- 44:34moved up. He's kind of been slow. He's been slow.
- 44:39Even at 168, he was slow. It's gotten worse.
- 44:44What I will say about David Benavidez is if his
- 44:47hand speed has faded for this fight, up at cruiserweight,
- 44:52it's going to be a hard fight if his hand speed
- 44:57is gone. If his endurance is gone, if it's waned
- 45:02at all, I don't know. He just needs to be durable
- 45:07in that fight to win. That's the one thing. He
- 45:10just needs to be durable. Benavidez needs to
- 45:13be durable? Yeah, Benavidez needs to be durable.
- 45:16Zertal's been at that weight class for a while.
- 45:19I'm not trying to make the case that Zertal's
- 45:21going to win, but I'm trying to make the case
- 45:23of how David Benavidez can avoid a hard night
- 45:26type of thing, you know? How it might turn out
- 45:31if certain things aren't right. I see. I mean,
- 45:35we all believe that, babe. There's no way we
- 45:36think Zertal's going to win, right? No, Shadada
- 45:40does. What's the reasoning? That he's been at
- 45:45the weight longer. Yeah, it's cruiserweight,
- 45:47though. The quality of opponent is a major concern
- 45:56for Zerto. I understand why she thinks that,
- 46:00but at the same time, Zerto's also not fought
- 46:02the best competition, whereas David has, in a
- 46:06sense. The best guy that Zerto fought at cruiserweight
- 46:10was... Chris Bill Smith. And washed up the order
- 46:13coast. Yeah. Come on, I mean, it's going to be
- 46:19a hard climb for Zerto to beat David. I mean,
- 46:22they both came from the same weight division.
- 46:25They both came from 168. You know, it's not like
- 46:28Zerto's coming up from freaking 160 or Zerto's
- 46:35been at Cruiserweight his whole entire career.
- 46:37They both came from the same weight class. Yeah.
- 46:42I mean, it's hard for me to believe that Benavidez
- 46:44is not going to beat Zerto. Even when Zerto went
- 46:47up, he beat the other guys because they were
- 46:49dog shit. No disrespect to the fighters, but
- 46:53they wanted the best. They wanted the cream of
- 46:55the crop, boxing. So I don't expect David to
- 46:59not do the same thing. You guys think he's going
- 47:02to get a knockout or what? No, I think it'll
- 47:04be a pretty simple Benavidez decision. I agree.
- 47:10I think when Benavidez moved up to light heavyweight,
- 47:14it's going to be a similar type of fight as to
- 47:17that, where he's getting adjusted to the weight.
- 47:20He's still dominant, but he's getting adjusted
- 47:22to the weight. Oh, like the Vazdik one? Yeah,
- 47:25Vazdik. Which, again, I know that fight kind
- 47:30of, I don't know, kind of resulted in guys saying
- 47:35that Benavidez... Ended up being washed or he
- 47:40was overrated or whatever. But, you know, hopefully
- 47:44he puts out a good show. Yeah, I've got not very
- 47:49much to add. Benavidez, super sharp, very accurate
- 47:54with his hands. Very fast hands, as I already
- 47:57pointed out. Zerdo is there to be hit. Part of
- 48:02his defensive strategy is tanking. the damage
- 48:07for some reason. And that's just like a losing
- 48:11proposition with Benavidez, who even if he is
- 48:14moving up, he does walk around pretty heavy.
- 48:19So I don't think it's going to be that big of
- 48:23a problem for the weight adjustment. I think
- 48:28this is too early to ask, too, but do you guys
- 48:30think that Benavidez is going to take over Cinco
- 48:33de Mayo weekend? Maybe. September as well. Well,
- 48:39I think he's, I mean, if he asked me years ago,
- 48:43I would have said Virgil. But we saw how that
- 48:47turned out. I got a question. I want to add something
- 48:50in, too. I want to add something in. Do you guys
- 48:53think that Virgil would have fought Sebastian
- 48:56Pandora? Yes. If Pandora accepted it, yes, that
- 49:00would have been a great fight. Like if he fought
- 49:03him on Cinco de Mayo weekend with Benavidez on
- 49:06the undercard, do you think that would have been
- 49:08possible? I don't think they would put Benavidez
- 49:13on the undercard. No, no, I'm saying he's like,
- 49:16I'm saying Virgil would be co -main. Oh. Or do
- 49:20you think it would just be co -main? Yeah. I
- 49:25still think it's Benavidez just because of how
- 49:26their profiles panned out. As a result of a lot
- 49:32of things. That'll be his new kill. He's, uh,
- 49:35Cinco de Maga. Yeah. Um, let's see here. The
- 49:41main, main, main event. Saturday, May 2nd at,
- 49:47like, fucking 1 in the morning. We will be online
- 49:51and ready to watch. Uh, Ohashi at the Tokyo Dome
- 49:57in Tokyo. No shit. Let's see here. The only one
- 50:03other than the main event. We got Sora Tanaka
- 50:07fighting Jin Sasaki. So at least there's going
- 50:12to be one stoppage. In the Mong -Mong Fest? Yeah.
- 50:16That one's going to be a good fight. You think?
- 50:19Oh, yeah. Well, it'll be a fun fight. It'll be
- 50:21entertaining. Guys, I know he's fighting Jin
- 50:24Sasaki already. That's pretty quick. Might try
- 50:28to reach Sasaki high, but that's a pretty good
- 50:30step up for being only 5 -0. Yeah, it is. I think
- 50:37Shinada said that Tanaka is kind of cut from
- 50:40the same cloth as Jin Sasaki. Very mongish. Former
- 50:47118 champ Yoshiki Takei. I fucking totally biffed
- 50:52it, and I confused him with Ryosuke Nishida.
- 50:56But Takei is facing Dekong Wang. Co -main event,
- 51:01Takuma Inoue vs. Kazuto Ioka. WBC bantamweight
- 51:06title on the line. If it goes to the cards, there's
- 51:09no chance that they let Kazuto win. Oh, 100%.
- 51:13Oh yeah, no fucking chance. It's gonna be a...
- 51:18If there's a knockout, it's gonna be on Ioka.
- 51:21You think he gets slapped? No, I think Ioka stops
- 51:26him. Ah. I don't know why, but I... Yeah, he's...
- 51:31I don't know. It's weird. Ioka's not at his best.
- 51:33He's 37 at a very small weight class. But...
- 51:37But... Is Takuma Inoue that great? I think he's
- 51:43good enough for the moment. I was going to say
- 51:45good enough to beat an old man. With a lot of
- 51:48miles on the clock. Yeah, but I was going to
- 51:51say, like, you forget that he spent years held
- 51:54up with Josh Franco. I mean, I really don't rate
- 52:01him. I know Shanada already has Takuma rated
- 52:04highly. I'm not saying Takuma is, like, all that,
- 52:10but he's very clearly a world beater. And Yoka
- 52:13was great, but he was great. Not necessarily
- 52:17right now. He did lose to Puma. I'm looking more
- 52:24at the fact that he looked at his absolute best
- 52:27six years ago when he beat up Kosei Tanaka. I
- 52:32don't know. I think he wins. That's just me,
- 52:37but I just think he wins. I think he wins by
- 52:39knockout. I would like for Ioko to win. That
- 52:41would be nice for Ioko to get a good... Five
- 52:45division fucking champion. Are you kidding me?
- 52:51Shit would be crazy. I think experience beats
- 52:55name recognition in a sense. Maybe I haven't
- 53:00seen enough Takuma anyway, but from what I've
- 53:02seen, he's not all that. I think that why Takuma
- 53:06won was because of his pressure. Takuma, in a
- 53:09way, he's... He's not a pressure guy. Yeah, he's
- 53:14kind of a bong, dude. I'm not gonna lie. Like,
- 53:17Takuma's losses... have come to high -pressure
- 53:20and high -volume styles of fighting, and Kazuto
- 53:24is not that. Even at his best, he was not that.
- 53:30So to be in the aged category, in addition to
- 53:35shop -worn, the signs do not bode well for Kazuto.
- 53:44I am, however, staunchly Team Kazuto. I got Gazato
- 53:52for the upset. Oh, man. To fuck up the Inoue
- 53:58family party. Oh, that party's getting fucked
- 54:03up in the main. No, it's not. No, it's not. Main
- 54:09event. Undisputed Super Bantamweight Champion
- 54:12Naoya Inoue is facing fellow 32 -0 guy Junto
- 54:16Nakatani. who was a unified champion at Bantamweight,
- 54:19and I think at Superfly. But, yeah. Naoya Inoue,
- 54:26Junta Nakatani. I am fucking stoked. I am so
- 54:31excited for this. This is going to be such a
- 54:32good fight. This is the fight we've been waiting
- 54:34for for years. This is the Super Bowl. Yeah,
- 54:36it's been on the tip of everyone's tongue. Anyone
- 54:40who knows the smaller weight classes. You don't
- 54:44even have to know the small weight classes to
- 54:46know who Inoue is. And then to throw Junto into
- 54:49the mix here. Holy shit. Oof. I know. I'm going
- 54:56to let Josh speak first about this. Because I
- 54:59genuinely think that. This is one of the very
- 55:02few true 50 -50s in boxing. There's paths to
- 55:08win for both of them. And I'm glad it's being
- 55:11treated like the event that it is. This fight
- 55:15is just going to determine the best of the little
- 55:18guys of this generation. It's exciting. To me,
- 55:24this feels like the same aura as 1970s Fight
- 55:30of the Century with Ali and Joe Frazier. Not
- 55:34so much where both guys have a... have a stake
- 55:37in saying they're the heavyweight champion or
- 55:39that, you know, they are the champion. Obviously,
- 55:40Inoue is the champ at this weight class, but
- 55:44more so like the gravitas, if that makes any
- 55:47sense. The impact to Tokyo, Japanese culture.
- 55:51Yeah, they're having lotteries for theater seats
- 55:55to watch it at the cinema. I mean, shoot. I've
- 56:00even heard some people talk about this in other,
- 56:04not so much like casuals, I've not really heard
- 56:07any casuals talk about this, but I've heard it
- 56:09in other sports areas where they're talking about
- 56:14this fight, mainly in baseball. Oh, because there's
- 56:16a lot of Japanese players, right? Yeah. Okay.
- 56:21So I feel like it's getting some good recognition.
- 56:24Yeah, I think so. I know you said this is a 50
- 56:28-50 fight. I agree, but I generally think Inoue's
- 56:32going to win. We've talked about this before,
- 56:34but Inoue... for the last, what, his entire career.
- 56:37He's always been fighting guys at his level and
- 56:40has a pretty stacked resume. He has experience,
- 56:43and he's grown as a fighter. One thing I got
- 56:47to say, too, is, I mean, I don't think he's had
- 56:49a fight where the guys have had more output than
- 56:54him in terms of landing and thrown. Correct me
- 56:58if I'm wrong. And the reason I bring that up
- 57:00is because he's fighting Nakatani where... I
- 57:04mean, again, Nakatani is a great guy. He's a
- 57:06great boxer. I'm not trying to put him down.
- 57:08I'm not trying to say he's going to lose 100%,
- 57:11but as we learned in the Nishida fight and as
- 57:14we learned in the Hernandez fight, he mongs out.
- 57:17When it's not going his way, he mongs out totally.
- 57:21And with Inoue, it's going to go past. I don't
- 57:24think personally Inoue has the chin nor the style
- 57:28to cause those types of problems, though, which
- 57:31is what makes it interesting. If Inoue was a
- 57:34come forward bulldoze you guy, I'd be like, there
- 57:37would be no hope in hell for Nakatani. But Inoue
- 57:41is the type of guy who has fallen for simple
- 57:46traps. And Nakatani is one of the best in the
- 57:49game at setting these same traps. I agree. Inoue
- 57:53in the last, well, fight for a couple. The Ramon
- 57:58Cardenas fight? Like, it's a meme to say he gets
- 58:02dropped by Uber drivers because, like, it's funny
- 58:05slander, but, like, I mean, the guy was a Lyft
- 58:08driver. He was a Lyft driver. The guy actually
- 58:12was a Lyft driver. Like, I can't even... That's
- 58:15not a joke. Seriously, he was. You don't even
- 58:17have to make up the slander, you know? To me,
- 58:20when I think about it, I think that mainly he
- 58:24also underestimated the opponent. As well? Yes.
- 58:27I mean, we see Nakatani do the same thing and
- 58:30then Mong out. But yeah, Inoue gets better. Nakatani
- 58:35kind of falters. I mean, his last fight, again,
- 58:38you're right. His last fight was against a come
- 58:40forward Mexican fighter. Yeah, like if Nakatani's
- 58:46landing in the first three rounds, if Inoue's
- 58:49eating them the same way, like, come on. He is
- 58:53leaving on a stretcher. That's just... I feel
- 58:57as if for the first, like, two or three rounds,
- 58:59it's going to be Inoue winning just because I
- 59:01feel like, I think I've mentioned this to Leo
- 59:04as well before, the lights might be too bright
- 59:06for Nakatani. I think it'll be more, like, Inoue
- 59:10had a very, I mean, his absolute peak against
- 59:14Fulton, you got to see that, like, the way he
- 59:18was able to stick the jab and move off of it.
- 59:23and i want to see if he still has that or if
- 59:25he just hasn't had to use it i feel as if he
- 59:28hasn't had to use it just because his recent
- 59:30group but it's a real question just because again
- 59:33small weight class getting older at a small weight
- 59:36class miles on the clock no yeah no you're 100
- 59:41right um all i gotta say about that is i mean
- 59:44he's experienced at this level he's been at 122
- 59:48for for shoot for freaking Three years now? Yeah.
- 59:55I'm not going to say the weight class adjustment
- 59:57is going to be brutal for Nakatani because he's
- 1:00:01a big guy, too. I was going to say, that's one
- 1:00:05thing that Nakatani has over Inoue. Inoue has
- 1:00:08really fought guys that are taller than him.
- 1:00:09A lot taller than him. So that's also a factor
- 1:00:13that you've got to take into play. Nakatani has
- 1:00:16also fought guys that are often smaller than
- 1:00:18him. That's another factor, too. They just match
- 1:00:21up really well, and that's what makes it 50 -50.
- 1:00:24The fight itself won't be, like, a hyper -competitive,
- 1:00:29like, 50 -50, but it's just the pre -fight, like,
- 1:00:33it's a toss -up. 100%. It's exciting. The first
- 1:00:39three rounds won't even tell us that much. I
- 1:00:42think it'll be the middle rounds that really,
- 1:00:44barring one fighter steamrolling the other, I
- 1:00:46think it'll be the middle rounds that show. Yeah.
- 1:00:50What they got. Can I tell you how I feel the
- 1:00:54fight's going to play out? Go for it, man. I
- 1:00:56generally feel like in the first three rounds,
- 1:00:58dude, it's going to be just a whole bunch of
- 1:01:00probing. They're not going to be going at it
- 1:01:02like crazy. I think both of them, this is going
- 1:01:06to be both their biggest fights in their careers,
- 1:01:08and I think they know it. They both know it,
- 1:01:10that this is their career -defining fight. So
- 1:01:13I think that after the first three rounds, after
- 1:01:16the probing, one of them's going to get... land
- 1:01:20a couple good shots, like what Josh did in the
- 1:01:23middle rounds, and then that's when the steam's
- 1:01:25going to pick up, and that's when you're going
- 1:01:26to see the real fight start. And I believe it's
- 1:01:29going to be Inoue that gets it in, just because
- 1:01:33he, and I know Nakatani does this very well,
- 1:01:36too, but his ability to counter and dodge punches
- 1:01:42and throw fucking in -between shots, I mean,
- 1:01:46it's to the worldly. But you're going to see
- 1:01:50both guys doing that after the middle rounds.
- 1:01:52You're going to see both guys starting to go
- 1:01:53at it. Where I think at one point, Inoue wins
- 1:01:57by knockout. And if he doesn't win by knockout,
- 1:02:00if it goes to the cards, again, like what we
- 1:02:03said earlier about Takuma, I don't think they're
- 1:02:06going to give the win at Nakatani if it goes
- 1:02:08to the cards, unless he genuinely wins. I don't
- 1:02:10see Nakatani winning on the cards. I think I
- 1:02:11only see really Nakatani winning by knockout.
- 1:02:15And I know that sounds kind of crazy to say,
- 1:02:17but again. Nakatani, when the fight doesn't go
- 1:02:20his way, he mongs out completely. So if it goes
- 1:02:23to the cards, they're going to give it to Inoue
- 1:02:24no matter what. The only way I see Nakatani winning
- 1:02:27the cards is if he knocks down Inoue a couple
- 1:02:29times and wins the first couple rounds. Something
- 1:02:35like that. I don't know. You could make a whole
- 1:02:39bunch of cases for this fight. That's the beauty
- 1:02:41of it. I got Inoue in my knockout. Probably in
- 1:02:45the later half. I'm going to guess round 10.
- 1:02:50Knockout round 10. Not that unreasonable of a
- 1:02:54call for it to go late. It's not outlandish.
- 1:02:56Yeah. It's the guys who are going Inoue in two,
- 1:03:00and I'm like, if Inoue is anywhere near that
- 1:03:03output in the early stages of the fight, he's
- 1:03:05getting iced. 100%. I will say I believe in Junto
- 1:03:10just because I believe Inoue is going to try.
- 1:03:14for that output somewhere in the middle of rounds,
- 1:03:17and those exchanges aren't going to work out.
- 1:03:20And it's possible. It's entirely possible, too.
- 1:03:25It's not like... I just think it's like people
- 1:03:29who just want to see Inoue starch the other guy
- 1:03:32or vice versa just don't see what makes these
- 1:03:36styles clash. One thing I have seen, too, is
- 1:03:41people are comparing this fight to... to Crawford
- 1:03:44Spence when it's totally not like that at all.
- 1:03:47No. I mean, the context behind that fight, I
- 1:03:50mean, Spence, and just a summary, Spence obviously
- 1:03:54was injured and then going into the fight was
- 1:03:5650 -50, then Crawford had a domination. I mean,
- 1:03:59yeah, that's a totally separate thing, you know,
- 1:04:03but with the context, knowing what happened before
- 1:04:05the fight. This fight, there's no, I mean, besides
- 1:04:08Nakatani's last fight with his bludgeoned face.
- 1:04:12I mean, none of them really sustained any career
- 1:04:15-altering injuries. They're both at their primes.
- 1:04:19They're both fantastic fighters right now. I
- 1:04:23don't think that it's going to be one -sided
- 1:04:24domination like what you saw with Spence and
- 1:04:26Crawford. I just wanted to address that since
- 1:04:29I did see that a couple times today. The counter
- 1:04:34-punching aspect of Nakatani does raise some
- 1:04:38questions for me because... Inoue's been put
- 1:04:45down by left hands. He has trouble with lefties.
- 1:04:48It's always been the case. I think Fulton is
- 1:04:51the only one he didn't struggle with. No, that's
- 1:04:54because Fulton decided to try and stand and trade
- 1:04:56and not... Not box. Jab with not box with him.
- 1:05:01And even then, that's just because Inoue put
- 1:05:03pressure early and often, but if Inoue has that
- 1:05:06level of output with Nakatani, it's different.
- 1:05:09Yeah, and Nakatani does have considerable power
- 1:05:12as well. I'm surprised that Inoue's been, had
- 1:05:19his chin tested twice. I don't know, I would
- 1:05:24say that he passed. So I wouldn't say that he's
- 1:05:28going to get iced, but I think he could get in
- 1:05:31trouble, get in really serious trouble pretty
- 1:05:33early if he does try to swarm on. Junto. That's
- 1:05:39just a... That's asking for a counterpunch. Oh,
- 1:05:43man. Anything more for the big one? Nope. Just
- 1:05:49excited, and I will be up for that. Leo, give
- 1:05:52us your opinion, dude. Yeah, what's your take,
- 1:05:55Leo? Honestly, I'm leaning towards Inoue. He's
- 1:06:01seen... I think he's seen a broader array of
- 1:06:06styles. compared to junto so i think he's i think
- 1:06:10he's more adaptable even though like adaptation
- 1:06:13is like the key fucking ingredient to being a
- 1:06:16counter puncher but nonetheless i think that
- 1:06:19in a way has i think he has the right tools i
- 1:06:23don't think it's going to be a knockout though
- 1:06:24just to sum it up that's about where i'm at the
- 1:06:31the left -handedness does give me some cause
- 1:06:35for concern like i had said Nakatani's got decent
- 1:06:39strength or decent power and in a way can get
- 1:06:44touched by a left hand, a straight left. And
- 1:06:48it happens when he gets a little bit too eager.
- 1:06:51So, yeah, he's going to have to play it cautious
- 1:06:55or else Nakatani will probably put him on his
- 1:06:59face. Oh, yeah. For this fight and the Benavidez
- 1:07:04fight as well, I convinced my girlfriend and
- 1:07:06my dad to watch this fight with me at 4 a .m.
- 1:07:11Hell yeah. It's going to be a tired but fun affair,
- 1:07:16I'll tell you that. Again, we've been looking
- 1:07:19forward to this fight for years, ever since freaking
- 1:07:22Nakatani started blowing up on the scene. Mrs.
- 1:07:32Goodman is going to be watching with you at 4
- 1:07:34a .m.? Yeah, I'm kind of forcing her. Not forcing
- 1:07:39her, but like... Soon to be Miss Goodman, I guess.
- 1:07:44I'm not forcing her. I'm not forcing her. But
- 1:07:47it's a deal we made. If she watches this fight
- 1:07:49with me at 4 a .m., I'm going to watch... I have
- 1:07:55to watch you to rivalry. That's not even that
- 1:07:57bad. That's not that bad. From what I hear, it's
- 1:08:00a good show. No, it's a good show, but... It's
- 1:08:03not even bad. Like, I was like, there's worse
- 1:08:05things. It's a good show, I heard, but the thing
- 1:08:09is, you know, there's better shows I could watch.
- 1:08:13Yeah, and there's worse fights you could make
- 1:08:15her watch, so... Yeah, exactly. And I think it's
- 1:08:18a very fair deal. Yeah. Yeah, that's not a bad
- 1:08:22one. It's not a bad deal to make. Oh, no, she
- 1:08:25has to watch, like, a fucking banger, and, ooh,
- 1:08:28oh, no, you have to watch... You have to watch
- 1:08:30a solid TV series. I mean, yeah. No, yeah. I
- 1:08:35think as long as it's good, you know. I just
- 1:08:38know some of the stuff in the show. It would
- 1:08:43be interesting to watch with her. Because she
- 1:08:45wants me to watch it with her, too. I'm cool
- 1:08:49with watching it. Just, you know, what if I...
- 1:08:57I just don't get something in you. Shouldn't
- 1:09:05be Ms. Goodman for several, for more than one
- 1:09:07reason. No, I just cause like, you know, watching
- 1:09:15stuff with like, uh, with, uh, intimate scenes
- 1:09:18with my girlfriend can be, can be interesting
- 1:09:21sometimes. We watched Marty Supreme in theaters
- 1:09:27and that was pretty funny. All right. Anything
- 1:09:29more for the Tokyo Super Bowl? No. All right.
- 1:09:35Let's see. Last bit of notes. The social media

- 1:12:44All right, I got some thought experiments that
- 1:12:49I wanted to go through with you guys as we head
- 1:12:53on out the door. So the first one, what would
- 1:12:58a modern world boxing super series look like?
- 1:13:01And the only rule is that every title list has
- 1:13:03to be enrolled. A modern one, they would 160
- 1:13:08and 147 are on. No, because the guys are at 147
- 1:13:12now. 140 and 160 are definitely weight classes
- 1:13:16that are doable. Just because I'm thinking of
- 1:13:21the context of the World Boxing Super Series
- 1:13:23where they got low money, low profile weight
- 1:13:27classes. So if you pick 140, you got Shakur Stevenson,
- 1:13:34Dalton Smith, Richardson Hitchens is vacant,
- 1:13:41and then Gary on Russell. Let's assume it's Hitchens
- 1:13:44still. Yeah, it's still Hitchens. Let's say it's
- 1:13:47Lindolfo. Let's say it's Lindolfo at this point.
- 1:13:49But, like, you get the main concept. Like, 160,
- 1:13:52similar thing, where it's guys that don't command
- 1:13:55that enormous profile. I would also like to add
- 1:14:02130 as well. 130, yeah, that's a good one. Cruiserweight
- 1:14:09would be overdone because, like, there's no one
- 1:14:11good enough, really. You're never going to see
- 1:14:16heavyweight. You're not going to see. No, like,
- 1:14:18Cruiserweight was just special the first time
- 1:14:20they did it because you had Gassiev, Prime Bredis,
- 1:14:23Usyk, Prime Dorticos. And a lot of hella punchers.
- 1:14:29And, like, Glowacki, Marco Huck, who were still
- 1:14:32pretty competent. Honestly, I would like to make
- 1:14:36a shout. If Canelo retires, then 168. That's
- 1:14:42true, actually. I was going to say 168 only because
- 1:14:45Canelo's there, but if you get him out of the
- 1:14:47picture, that's a really good one because you
- 1:14:50get Lester Martinez against a bunch of very competent
- 1:14:54roster. Mbili and Lester for WBC. We'll assume
- 1:15:03that Shiraz wins his fight for the vacant WBO.
- 1:15:07Iglesias, IBF, he's going to fucking run the
- 1:15:09bracket no matter what. Actually, 168 might be
- 1:15:14the closest to that group of cruiserweights.
- 1:15:17Oh, yeah. Because you have Iglesias and Martinez
- 1:15:21are in there as your obvious frontrunners. You
- 1:15:29have Mbili, Munguia, whatever as your competent
- 1:15:33title holders at the very least. It's going to
- 1:15:37be like the Super 6 all over again. I would have
- 1:15:39brought... I would bring Adamas up into it. He's...
- 1:15:43Yeah, he moved up. I would have... Yeah, I was
- 1:15:45going to say Adamas is a good one. Jakub Bank.
- 1:15:52Jakub Bank, too. That's what I mean. 168 would
- 1:15:54be closest to that, like, cruiserweight one.
- 1:15:59Yeah, I was going to say, like, the 118 one,
- 1:16:01the final was fantastic with Donair and Inouye,
- 1:16:04but, like... Donair basically had two, like,
- 1:16:08meme knockouts and an injury to get there. He
- 1:16:13still gave Inouye one of his hardest fights,
- 1:16:15though. Yeah, I'm just saying Donair, like, no,
- 1:16:17but I'm looking at the tournament as a whole.
- 1:16:19Like, the Cruiserweight one, the first edition,
- 1:16:21was, like, gangbusters start to finish. The second
- 1:16:27one was just Electric Boogaloo. Yeah, the...
- 1:16:30The 118 one wasn't that exciting. Basically all
- 1:16:34the losers from the first one, but washed up.
- 1:16:37Yeah. I'm surprised they haven't done a World
- 1:16:42of Boxing Super Series in a while. Obviously,
- 1:16:44I know why. COVID. Actually being able to get
- 1:16:48all the titles and get enough champions to participate.
- 1:16:54Why you gotta pick a non -glamour? There's like
- 1:17:00a very thin balance. Like you need a non -glamour
- 1:17:03division with guys who are extremely either talented
- 1:17:07or at the very least competent who haven't already
- 1:17:10fought each other because that happens in like
- 1:17:12the smaller non -glamour divisions. I mean, one
- 1:17:16thing about it too is that you also got to get
- 1:17:18divisions where it's also not riddled with a
- 1:17:19bunch of promotional companies. That's what I'm
- 1:17:22saying. But that's why you pick low -profile
- 1:17:27guys who are just skilled. Because the thing
- 1:17:29is that if the money's there, the promotional
- 1:17:31companies won't care. They get a cut, then they
- 1:17:34don't have to promote it. Yeah. They just promote
- 1:17:37their guy. Just post on social media, good luck,
- 1:17:40so -and -so, as you fuck off and fight over there.
- 1:17:43Which is what happened with that cruiserweight
- 1:17:47one and the 140 -12. Top rank slash Queensbury
- 1:17:52just got to go. Good luck, Josh Taylor. Hmm.
- 1:17:57Well, they fought Regis Progray and freaking
- 1:18:01Jose. No, that was the second one. They did two
- 1:18:05of them. I forgot. Oh, yeah. Shit. Misremembering.
- 1:18:11So. The first ones were Cruiser and Super Middle.
- 1:18:15And then Cruiser 140 and 118. I think. But, yeah.
- 1:18:24I think the ones that we landed on when I did
- 1:18:27this with Shanada was 168. Take Canelo out. Just
- 1:18:33swap Adamas for Canelo and you basically have
- 1:18:36it. This is a little bit of an easier one, I
- 1:18:42think. But you can only pick three. Ali's jab.
- 1:18:48Wilder's power, Lomachenko's footwork, Floyd's
- 1:18:52defense, Canelo's head movement, Usyk's IQ. Okay,
- 1:18:59I'll go first. Can you say it one more time?
- 1:19:02It's in the outline. The one I landed on, I went
- 1:19:08with Wilder's power, Floyd's defense, and Usyk's
- 1:19:12IQ. Usyk's IQ is mandatory. Gotta be. I'm going
- 1:19:19Wilder's power and Ali's jab because you really
- 1:19:24don't... The defense and footwork are incredibly
- 1:19:29specific. I assume with the IQ, there's some
- 1:19:32level of defensive IQ. So we're basically just
- 1:19:39giving Usyk a blinding jab and Wilder's power.
- 1:19:47Does IQ include accuracy? I think instead of
- 1:19:54having to pick, like, specifically for accuracy,
- 1:19:58it's like you get a B in all of them instead
- 1:20:01of getting, like, an S or an A+. Okay, okay.
- 1:20:08Yeah, I agree with Leo on this one. If speed
- 1:20:11was an option, I would replace speed with power.
- 1:20:14Yeah. The one that we thought, Shanada and I,
- 1:20:20I mean, we didn't think that the Canelo's head
- 1:20:22movement, that's kind of like the odd one that
- 1:20:25doesn't really belong. Lomachenko's footwork,
- 1:20:28too, just because I'm like, if you have the IQ,
- 1:20:30you don't need the... You don't need to be a
- 1:20:33ballerina? If you have Usyk's functional footwork,
- 1:20:37you don't need Lomachenko's ballerina footwork.
- 1:20:42It wasn't beautiful, though. It was just like
- 1:20:45function versus... I mean, look at the careers
- 1:20:48they had. Yeah. Just as the plain example of
- 1:20:52what you'd rather have. No, I 100 % agree with
- 1:20:56you. A buddy of mine, he went with Ali's jab,
- 1:21:01Wilder's power, and U6 IQ. It seems like the
- 1:21:04power and IQ are the staples. I'm just like,
- 1:21:08Ali's jab with the IQ and Wilder's power is just...
- 1:21:14You're basically just... You have the peak IQ
- 1:21:17and you're just adding to it instead of taking
- 1:21:19away from it, potentially. Yeah. Now give me
- 1:21:25Larry Holmes' jab and Big George's power with
- 1:21:29U6 IQ. You would have a fun time, I'll tell you
- 1:21:34that. Disgusting. That would be disgusting. Last
- 1:21:42thing. As we head out, I got some stuff, some
- 1:21:46news on the amateurs. We said we were going to
- 1:21:49start paying more attention, so here we go. The
- 1:21:52World Boxing Cup Stage 1. This one took place
- 1:21:56in Brazil. Just wrapped up. Team USA got three
- 1:22:01medals. Salim Elisbe got silver. Noel Haro got
- 1:22:06bronze. Simona Winkler got bronze. That's at
- 1:22:1060, 51, and 70. kilograms. I don't know what
- 1:22:16that is in freedom units. And Team Canada got
- 1:22:19three bronze. I'm not sure how to pronounce these.
- 1:22:22Keoma Al -Ahmadi, I think it is. Gabriel Ali
- 1:22:27Labor? Labrie? Labrie. I'm going with that. And
- 1:22:33Joshua Ofori. I have the full medal list if you
- 1:22:42guys want to check. A lot of Uzbek and Brazilian
- 1:22:47fighters actually got a lot of the gold. Maybe
- 1:22:52there's some home cooking on the judges' parts.
- 1:22:58Stage 2 will be in June in China, so keep it
- 1:23:04locked and we'll keep you updated. All right.
- 1:23:09So we're heading into the weekend of weekends.
- 1:23:13Parting words. Man, y 'all better be up at 5
- 1:23:18a .m. Oh, we will. We will. Not just you guys,
- 1:23:24the listeners. I know one person that's not going
- 1:23:28to be up, and I'm going to torture him for that.
- 1:23:30It's Isaac. I'm sorry, Isaac. I'm putting your
- 1:23:34ass on the hook. Why not? Why won't he be up?
- 1:23:38He's going to be too tired. Lame. What, from
- 1:23:41eating? I don't know, dude. Get some five -hour
- 1:23:46energy with your DoorDash order, dog. All you
- 1:23:49got to do is wake up for one hour and just go
- 1:23:51to bed immediately afterwards. That's it. This
- 1:23:54is one of those ones where I'm getting Waffle
- 1:23:59House just because they're open 24 hours. I might
- 1:24:04just go to a fucking norm or something, dude.
- 1:24:08Well, that's it for this edition of the Boxing
- 1:24:11B -Sides. We will see you on the other side of
- 1:24:14Inoue Nakatani. How do you want to convince them
- 1:24:29to watch MMA instead? Or not instead, but just
- 1:24:33to start watching MMA. I'm going to go a different
- 1:24:37route than Nathan went. I'm going to go with,
- 1:24:39first of all, I think MMA has more frequent watchable
- 1:24:45events. There's some weeks in boxing where it's
- 1:24:48either super degenerate or no names, whatever.
- 1:24:52I think in the UFC, it's slightly better at times.
- 1:24:56And then the big, big point, it's just more hectic.
- 1:24:59I think MMA at times is just more hectic. You're
- 1:25:03seeing stuff from street fights all the way to,
- 1:25:05like, movie -type fights. You know, you got roundhouse
- 1:25:09kicks, straight -up, like, bar fights at times.
- 1:25:13You get a wider range of enjoyable fights, I
- 1:25:17would say. And then just, like, I don't know,
- 1:25:22it's more enjoyable. The fact that at times you
- 1:25:25get to see just guys, like, standing and banging,
- 1:25:28it's just more primal, in a way, is what I'd
- 1:25:31say. That's how I would try to convince boxing
- 1:25:34-only fans. If you enjoy chaos, we saw it in
- 1:25:39the Wild Riches or fight. If you enjoy that type
- 1:25:41of chaos, because that wasn't exactly a bunch
- 1:25:44of technique in that fight, but if you enjoyed
- 1:25:46something like that, I would definitely try out
- 1:25:49MMA. Just because at times there is high -level
- 1:25:54things, and that is incredible to watch. People
- 1:25:57like Mauricio Hufi, you're seeing incredible
- 1:25:59knockouts with kicks. But even like the lower
- 1:26:04level stuff can be enjoyable with people just
- 1:26:07going to town on each other, you know, standing
- 1:26:09and banging. That'd probably be the driving point
- 1:26:12that I would say to boxing only fans is that
- 1:26:15if you enjoy that chaos, I would say definitely
- 1:26:19give MMA a try. If you like chaos, I like that.
- 1:26:23If you do decide to give MMA a shot, well, you
- 1:26:26can check out Ultimate FN Casuals. You can hear
- 1:26:28us chat about all the fights that happen every
- 1:26:31weekend, just like on the boxing side.
