- 0:00Mark Chapter 12. And he began to speak to them in
- 0:03parables. A man planted a vineyard and put
- 0:06a wall around it and dug a VAT under the winepress and built a
- 0:09tower and rented it out to vine growers and went on a journey.
- 0:14At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine growers in
- 0:17order to receive some of the produce of the vineyard from the
- 0:19vine growers. They took him and beat him and
- 0:22sent him away empty handed. Again he sent them another
- 0:25slave, and they wounded him in the head and treated him
- 0:27shamefully, and he sent another, and that one they killed.
- 0:32And so with many others, beating some and killing others, he had
- 0:36one more to send, a beloved son. He sent him last of all to them,
- 0:40saying, they will respect my son.
- 0:43But those vine growers said to one another, This is the air,
- 0:46Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.
- 0:49They took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.
- 0:53What will the owner of the vineyard do?
- 0:55He will come and destroy the vine growers and will give the
- 0:58vineyard to others. Have you not even read this
- 1:01scripture? The stone which the builders
- 1:03rejected, this became the chief cornerstone.
- 1:06This came about from the Lord, and it is marvellous in our
- 1:09eyes. And they were seeking to seize
- 1:11Him, and yet they feared the people, for they understood that
- 1:15He spoke the parable against them.
- 1:17And so they left Him and went away.
- 1:20Then they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Him
- 1:22in order to trap Him in a statement.
- 1:24They came and said to him, Teacher, we know that you are
- 1:27truthful, and defer to no one, for you are not partial to any,
- 1:31but teach the way of God in truth.
- 1:33Is it lawful to pay a poll tax to Caesar or not?
- 1:36Shall we pay or shall we not pay?
- 1:39But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, Why are you
- 1:42testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at.
- 1:46They brought one. And he said to them, Whose
- 1:48likeness and inscription is this?
- 1:50And they said to him Caesar's, And Jesus said to them, Render
- 1:54to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things
- 1:58that are gods. And they were amazed at him.
- 2:01Some Sadducees who say that there is no resurrection came to
- 2:04Jesus and began questioning him, saying, Teacher Moses wrote for
- 2:08us that if a man's brother dies and leaves behind a wife and
- 2:11leaves no child, his brother should marry the wife and raise
- 2:14up children to his brother. There were seven brothers, and
- 2:17the first took a wife and died leaving no children.
- 2:20The second one married her and died leaving behind no children,
- 2:23and the third likewise, and so all 7 left no children.
- 2:27Last of all, the woman died also in the resurrection.
- 2:30When they rise again, which one's wife will she be?
- 2:34For all seven had married her. Jesus said to them.
- 2:38Is this not the reason? You're mistaken that you do not
- 2:41understand the Scriptures or the power of God.
- 2:43For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are
- 2:46given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
- 2:49But regarding the fact that the dead rise again, have you not
- 2:52read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning
- 2:55Bush, how God spoke to him, saying, I am the God of Abraham,
- 2:59and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
- 3:01He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
- 3:04You are greatly mistaken. One of the scribes came and
- 3:07heard them arguing, and recognizing that he had answered
- 3:09them well, asked him, What commandment is the foremost of
- 3:13all? Jesus answered, The foremost is
- 3:16here, O Israel, the Lord our God is 1 Lord, and you shall love
- 3:20the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
- 3:23and with all your mind, with all your strength.
- 3:26The second is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
- 3:30There is no other commandment greater than these.
- 3:33The scribe said to him, Right teacher, you have truly stated
- 3:36that he is 1 and there is no one else besides him.
- 3:39And to love him with all the heart and with all the
- 3:41understanding, with all the strength, and to love one's
- 3:43neighbor as himself, is much more than all burnt offerings
- 3:47and sacrifice. When Jesus saw that he had
- 3:49answered intelligently, he said to him, You are not far from the
- 3:53Kingdom of God. After that no one would venture
- 3:56to ask him any more questions. And Jesus began to say, as he
- 4:00taught in the temple, how is it that the scribes say that the
- 4:03Christ is the Son of David? David himself said in the Holy
- 4:06Spirit, The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until
- 4:10I put your enemies beneath your feet.
- 4:13David himself calls him Lord, so in what sense is he his son?
- 4:18And the large crowd enjoyed listening to him in his
- 4:21teaching. He was saying, Beware of the
- 4:23scribes who like to walk around in long robes and like
- 4:26respectful greetings in the marketplaces and chief seats, in
- 4:29the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, who devour
- 4:33widows houses, and for appearances sake offer long
- 4:36prayers. These will receive greater
- 4:38condemnation. And he sat down opposite the
- 4:41treasury and began observing how the people were putting money
- 4:43into the treasury, and many rich people were putting in large
- 4:46sums. A poor widow came and put in two
- 4:49small copper coins which amount to a cent.
- 4:52Calling his disciples to him, he said to them, Truly, I say to
- 4:56you, This poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the
- 4:59Treasury, for they all put in out of their surplus, but she
- 5:03out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live
- 5:07on.
