- 1:50Speaker 1: Now, let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashaan McDonald.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Hi, this is Rashan McDonald. Welcome back to Money Making
- 1:57Speaker 2: Conversation Masterclass. I'm a dreamer, y'all. All right, Maybe you
- 2:01Speaker 2: don't know that about me, but I come from the neighborhood.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I come from an inner city, six sisters, two brothers,
- 2:08Speaker 2: And the interesting thing about me was that I watched television,
- 2:13Speaker 2: and television showed me a world that I wasn't living in.
- 2:18Speaker 2: It showed me the possibilities. And I used to always
- 2:21Speaker 2: watch Jaques Cousteau was my man when I was growing up.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I used to Joaques Gusteau. And when I went to college,
- 2:28Speaker 3: guess what.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I worked offshore because I wanted that. I wanted that experience.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I wanted to be in the ocean. I was working
- 2:35Speaker 2: eighty miles out in the Gulf on a on an
- 2:38Speaker 2: all rig. They would fly me out there on the
- 2:41Speaker 2: helicopter and I stay out there for two weeks. And
- 2:44Speaker 2: so I tell people, you know, if you don't dream it,
- 2:48Speaker 2: you don't think about it, you don't make it a possibility,
- 2:51Speaker 2: then it cannot happen. Well, my next guest is a
- 2:54Speaker 2: person who that's what he does. He makes it impossible possible.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Sergeant Major Keith L. Craig, the super connected Hollywood whisperers,
- 3:01Speaker 2: a go to for independent filmmakers, producers, directors, development deals,
- 3:07Speaker 2: finance options, distribution and budgets. I don't want to lose
- 3:10Speaker 2: anybody on this because because of the fact that if
- 3:13Speaker 2: he doesn't do what he do, then you don't watch
- 3:15Speaker 2: what you see on television.
- 3:17Speaker 3: You need him.
- 3:18Speaker 2: This year, they have fifty new titles to be released
- 3:21Speaker 2: across digital platforms including Amazon, Google Play, Apple and Roku
- 3:26Speaker 2: and then select theaters in less than thirty days. Because
- 3:29Speaker 2: he in partnership poor to Craig clients, film will go Global.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Please welcome to the Money Making Conversation Mathclass. The one
- 3:35Speaker 2: and only Sergeant Major Keith L.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Craig. How are you doing, sir?
- 3:40Speaker 5: How are you doing? Thank you for the introduction. Glad
- 3:42Speaker 5: to be here.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Well, guess what, Sergeant Major, let's start right there. First
- 3:47Speaker 2: of all, thank you for the service. Let's get a
- 3:48Speaker 2: history there, because you let me know there's a military
- 3:52Speaker 2: in you. How did it all get started?
- 3:55Speaker 5: Long time ago? Age seventeen, I went into the military.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So it was a really long time ago. So was
- 4:00Speaker 3: landed last week? Can be last week? It was?
- 4:03Speaker 5: It was a long time ago, you see in a
- 4:08Speaker 5: storyteller already.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Absolutely absolutely do you think? Do you think sir?
- 4:12Speaker 5: But yes, a long long time ago. Uh, at age seventeen.
- 4:16Speaker 5: My mom actually actually have to sign me into the military.
- 4:19Speaker 5: I heard you earlier say that, you know you're from
- 4:21Speaker 5: a community that was it wasn't it wasn't supportive as
- 4:26Speaker 5: far as launching you into you know, you're tomorrow so
- 4:29Speaker 5: with me, you know, uh, my mom and I was
- 4:32Speaker 5: once homeless, you know, so you know it's from there
- 4:35Speaker 5: that I actually you got my will to succeed, right,
- 4:41Speaker 5: So my you know, I had some people in my
- 4:43Speaker 5: past once told me that I wasn't going to amount
- 4:46Speaker 5: too much because I didn't necessarily like to do what
- 4:48Speaker 5: you know, we were doing down there as far as
- 4:50Speaker 5: shark sharecroppers concerned. But fast forward, I went to the
- 4:53Speaker 5: military and and just had some great assignments and and there,
- 4:58Speaker 5: you know, I learned the I learned discipline. I know,
- 5:01Speaker 5: you know, the power of you know, having morals and
- 5:04Speaker 5: values and integrity and honors, being honest and selfless service
- 5:08Speaker 5: to others. And that pretty much led me to have
- 5:12Speaker 5: some great assignments and actually was deployed six times, spent
- 5:17Speaker 5: over two years in Iraq. In one of those years,
- 5:21Speaker 5: I was part of intelligence brigade that actually gathered the
- 5:23Speaker 5: intelligence that led to the captures of dam Hussein was
- 5:27Speaker 5: at the time Eman number one. Fast forward twenty ten,
- 5:33Speaker 5: I actually took three thousand men and women over to
- 5:36Speaker 5: Haiti for poor the Prince to help to sustain the
- 5:38Speaker 5: city that were you know, over there because of the earthquake.
- 5:42Speaker 5: Twenty eleven, twenty twelve, I was part of the logistical
- 5:45Speaker 5: unit in Afghanistan in between Kabul and Kandahar, where actually
- 5:49Speaker 5: supported to see a team six as we crossed the
- 5:52Speaker 5: berm into to take out of Summer bin Laden. So
- 5:55Speaker 5: as you can see, I've been around and with the
- 5:58Speaker 5: places I've been and the people I've met throughout the years,
- 6:01Speaker 5: I was able to excel in the military and make
- 6:04Speaker 5: it all the way to the top one percent, which
- 6:06Speaker 5: is a sergeant major. And for those those you listeners
- 6:09Speaker 5: who don't know what the sergeant major is, because Hollywood
- 6:11Speaker 5: has done an awesome job of teaching people what you know,
- 6:15Speaker 5: a colonel is or a general is or at role
- 6:17Speaker 5: is right, but they don't know that every one of
- 6:19Speaker 5: those rushan has a sergeant major as a senior advisor.
- 6:23Speaker 5: They don't make a move unless they you know less,
- 6:25Speaker 5: they you know, have dialogue with the sergeant major. You
- 6:28Speaker 5: know what I'm saying, So yes, and that's kind of
- 6:30Speaker 5: how that was my army career.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Well, let's go down on that career because I think
- 6:35Speaker 2: it's important. It's one of the things that you know,
- 6:37Speaker 2: this big giant press releif people always say, how do
- 6:39Speaker 2: you get guests on your show? Vershan, Well, sometimes I
- 6:41Speaker 2: get these press reliefs to come out and I go, wow,
- 6:44Speaker 2: I need to talk to him because of the fact that.
- 6:47Speaker 2: You know, we talk about options in our community, we
- 6:50Speaker 2: talk about the negativity of you know, sometimes I'm gonna
- 6:53Speaker 2: tell you some Sergeant Major, I look at television and
- 6:56Speaker 2: I see, you know, violence, and I'm just prayted not
- 7:00Speaker 2: going to put a black person's face on the screen,
- 7:03Speaker 2: because it appears far too often than I want to
- 7:06Speaker 2: say it should.
- 7:08Speaker 3: And so and I remember once when I was really
- 7:12Speaker 3: an advocating military service.
- 7:14Speaker 2: You know, a lot of people in the black community,
- 7:16Speaker 2: like you know, trying to were resisting the values that
- 7:20Speaker 2: I was trying to say that a young person who
- 7:23Speaker 2: doesn't may not have the options to go to college
- 7:28Speaker 2: should at least look at it.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Don't just announce it.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Tell us about the values, because I don't want to
- 7:33Speaker 2: go past that, because because it still holds a lot
- 7:35Speaker 2: of tremendous values right now, and quite frankly, the military
- 7:39Speaker 2: community is struggling to enlist people.
- 7:42Speaker 3: To get people to that list.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Okay, well, yes, obviously I actually hold an MBA now,
- 7:49Speaker 5: but you know I got that inside of the military,
- 7:52Speaker 5: you know, And I also have no suit of loans
- 7:53Speaker 5: because of that, because as a as a as a
- 7:56Speaker 5: soldier that's in the military, you actually have the ability
- 7:59Speaker 5: to go to school and get your education while you're serving.
- 8:02Speaker 5: So it's kind of like, you know, you it's a
- 8:04Speaker 5: win win for those who don't want a student loan,
- 8:06Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. So, you know, oftentimes we
- 8:08Speaker 5: talk about society, you know how it kind of steers
- 8:11Speaker 5: us to it kind of presents a road map to us,
- 8:14Speaker 5: like you you should go to college. As you go
- 8:16Speaker 5: to college, that that will determine your job, but that
- 8:19Speaker 5: also determines a certain amount of debt as you as
- 8:21Speaker 5: you leave the university, you know. So, so I was
- 8:25Speaker 5: actually this past weekend speaking at the Howard University and
- 8:28Speaker 5: one of the things I spoke to people about was
- 8:31Speaker 5: professional score. You know, believe it or not, society is
- 8:34Speaker 5: keep the score of the things that you've done before
- 8:38Speaker 5: you leave college. As you enter college, for instance, it's
- 8:40Speaker 5: like what was your GPA, what was your NCAP score?
- 8:44Speaker 5: You know, what was were you a part of the
- 8:46Speaker 5: community out there? You know when you go to church, boy, scout,
- 8:49Speaker 5: girl scout? So you have to always build on your brand.
- 8:52Speaker 5: So the military, for to me, an opportunity to go
- 8:54Speaker 5: get educated and be able to have a launch point
- 8:58Speaker 5: to choose anything that I want to do from the
- 9:00Speaker 5: military because it's obviously it brands you to where it
- 9:04Speaker 5: doesn't matter what color you're choosing, red or blue, whatever
- 9:07Speaker 5: side you're choosing, everybody accepts people have served their country
- 9:11Speaker 5: because we believe red, white and blue, you know.
- 9:14Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:14Speaker 2: So, so what when did you start to transition into
- 9:19Speaker 2: seeing Hollywood or entertainment as an option.
- 9:23Speaker 5: When I was deployed over in Iraq, I saw organization
- 9:29Speaker 5: that would bring over entertainment to try to take our
- 9:31Speaker 5: a mind off of combat for two or three hours,
- 9:34Speaker 5: you know, a year, because we spent three sixty five,
- 9:36Speaker 5: three and sixty five days in deployments. So but I
- 9:40Speaker 5: never saw any entertainment that looked like us, you know,
- 9:43Speaker 5: saying for as the minorities. Right. So it was at
- 9:47Speaker 5: that point as a as a senior advisor, a senior
- 9:50Speaker 5: soldier in an element soldiers came to me and asked me,
- 9:55Speaker 5: you know, sergeant major, what can we do to have
- 9:57Speaker 5: somebody that we like?
- 9:59Speaker 3: Right?
- 10:01Speaker 5: I started to reach out and and reach out to
- 10:03Speaker 5: Hollywood and and meet a few people and then brought
- 10:06Speaker 5: over the likes of BB King and the temptations and
- 10:09Speaker 5: things that nature, and it you know, it kind of
- 10:12Speaker 5: felt good to make people happy. So that's what I
- 10:16Speaker 5: you know, I started. I got the bug right then, Like, okay,
- 10:19Speaker 5: so you so.
- 10:19Speaker 2: You started out basically a promoter. You're producing shows, bringing
- 10:24Speaker 2: in talent that was appealing to to an artist that
- 10:28Speaker 2: felt that they were not getting to they weren't. They
- 10:31Speaker 2: were they were happy to be entertained, but wasn't really
- 10:33Speaker 2: feeling the entertainment.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Right, right, It's absolutely right. Were the most of the
- 10:38Speaker 5: entertainment was from Kentucky or Tennessee. If you understand the mean.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Right absolutely, Like I said, until you participate that you
- 10:44Speaker 2: put yourself in a position to be able to have power.
- 10:48Speaker 2: And like I said, as a as a position you
- 10:50Speaker 2: in sergeant major, you positioned yourself to be a promoter,
- 10:55Speaker 2: to be a producer skill set that guess what people
- 10:58Speaker 2: do every day, you know, Promoters are just advertisers. Promoters
- 11:01Speaker 2: are just you know, companies that somebody promotes these grocery stores,
- 11:06Speaker 2: somebody promotes these cars, somebody promotes these football games, these
- 11:09Speaker 2: basketball games. That's all he was doing in the smallest stage.
- 11:13Speaker 2: But you were learning the skill, and that skill allowed
- 11:16Speaker 2: you to start start seeing beyond what you were doing
- 11:20Speaker 2: in the military.
- 11:21Speaker 5: Correct, absolutely absolutely as a and I was a senior
- 11:24Speaker 5: logistation in military. So when I got that call to
- 11:27Speaker 5: go out to Hollywood and and and meet some executives
- 11:31Speaker 5: out there, and I was looking around, you know, what
- 11:33Speaker 5: could I do? You know, there was producer, there was
- 11:36Speaker 5: there was distribution, there was you know, the justic things
- 11:41Speaker 5: that nature. The one thing that I saw that the
- 11:43Speaker 5: science connected and the science made sense to me. Logistics
- 11:46Speaker 5: and distribution is pretty much the same, right. You know,
- 11:48Speaker 5: there's a there's a need. Uh you know, there's a
- 11:51Speaker 5: component that needs to be carried somewhere and people need
- 11:54Speaker 5: that thing. So you have delivered that, so that that
- 11:57Speaker 5: made sense to me. So I just went to you,
- 11:59Speaker 5: you u c LA and got certified in the business
- 12:03Speaker 5: of entertainment and from there it started on my plight.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Now, now let's let's put it. Let's be honest about it.
- 12:10Speaker 2: This is this whole relationship. You're in the military, Sergeant major. Yes,
- 12:15Speaker 2: you cared a certain amount of respect when you walked
- 12:19Speaker 2: in the room.
- 12:19Speaker 3: People. I know, I'm gonna give you my respects.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Thank you for your service, because first of all, you
- 12:23Speaker 2: protected me and you don't even know me, So that
- 12:26Speaker 2: is that is a that's a mindset that people have
- 12:28Speaker 2: to wrap their head around. There that somebody has chosen
- 12:31Speaker 2: to protect this entire country and parts that person may
- 12:35Speaker 2: never go or never see. And but that's a special
- 12:38Speaker 2: person that does that. But when you walk in the
- 12:40Speaker 2: room with these producers, these executives, these these individuals who
- 12:45Speaker 2: are decision making, do you feel that because you were
- 12:47Speaker 2: in the military allowed you a certain ability to make
- 12:53Speaker 2: a better make stronger relationships or create relationships you might
- 12:56Speaker 2: not have had if you were not in the military.
- 12:58Speaker 5: I would say being in the military, it taught me
- 13:01Speaker 5: how to enter a room.
- 13:02Speaker 6: Right.
- 13:02Speaker 5: There's a certain way. There's a certain way as a man,
- 13:06Speaker 5: you know, oh woman, you have to carry yourself right,
- 13:08Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. There's a strict there's a
- 13:10Speaker 5: certain dress code associated with that because, believe it or not,
- 13:14Speaker 5: we we we are always judged and scores always kept
- 13:18Speaker 5: on how we move. So it's very important that you know,
- 13:21Speaker 5: they always want to put us in a box based
- 13:23Speaker 5: on our pigmentation. So it's very important that you move
- 13:27Speaker 5: as a you know, like a professional, you know, because
- 13:30Speaker 5: you are being looked at. So it's it's it's it's
- 13:33Speaker 5: how you.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Move and it's really and it's important that you people
- 13:38Speaker 2: hear that, you know, because of the fact that you
- 13:40Speaker 2: know we could. We could, you know as young people.
- 13:43Speaker 2: We all were young. You know, I had to before
- 13:45Speaker 2: I lost all my hair. I had a big afro.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I remember.
- 13:49Speaker 2: In fact, we're going to go to break when we
- 13:50Speaker 2: come back and tell this a little short story about
- 13:52Speaker 2: how I didn't want to conform to my company's dress
- 13:57Speaker 2: code and guess what, there was no success for me.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Frustration and that's all he's talking about. Be right back
- 14:02Speaker 2: with more so as you major talking about. He's a whisper, y'all,
- 14:06Speaker 2: but he talks loud on my show.
- 14:15Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 14:18Speaker 1: with Rushawan McDonald. You are now tuned into the Money
- 14:23Speaker 1: Making Conversations Minute of Inspiration with Rashawn McDonald.
- 14:27Speaker 7: This week, I sat down with award winning actor, best
- 14:30Speaker 7: selling author, and entrepreneur Hell Harper. He stopped by and
- 14:33Speaker 7: talked about how his thyrout cancer diagnosis led to his
- 14:37Speaker 7: role as a health and wellness ambacheldor teaching everyday people
- 14:40Speaker 7: how to live healthier lives.
- 14:43Speaker 6: We believe that a lot of the root cause of
- 14:46Speaker 6: cancer has to do with what we put on our skin.
- 14:48Speaker 6: Our skin is the largest organ on our body, and
- 14:51Speaker 6: everything that you ate it, your ender, consistent, your liver,
- 14:55Speaker 6: your kidneys have to deal with it. And they said,
- 14:57Speaker 6: the reason why I'll never be tested because the same
- 14:59Speaker 6: companies that make the lotions to contain the aluminum, the petroleum,
- 15:02Speaker 6: the parabis and the oils and all these things, the
- 15:05Speaker 6: same companies would make that are all the same companies
- 15:07Speaker 6: as a drug company, right, so they're never going to
- 15:09Speaker 6: do a long term study of the effects of their product.
- 15:14Speaker 7: If you want to listen to this full interview with
- 15:16Speaker 7: Hill Harper, it's available on money Making Conversations dot com.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Now let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashaan McDonald.
- 15:26Speaker 1: If you have a question or comments, called four O
- 15:29Speaker 1: four eight eight oho nine two five five.
- 15:32Speaker 2: I'm on the phone with He's here, Sergeant Major Black Panther.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I want to bring up that movie. I'm pausing because
- 15:44Speaker 2: I'm thinking about how how important that movie was for
- 15:47Speaker 2: me personally, how important that movie was for me in
- 15:51Speaker 2: the in the in the industry, because we had never
- 15:53Speaker 2: had a movie come out that that sold the tickets
- 15:58Speaker 2: that it's sold, that was directed by a black director,
- 16:02Speaker 2: and you happen to be a distributor probably the long
- 16:04Speaker 2: African American distribute on that movie. Tell about your tell
- 16:07Speaker 2: us about your role and some of the achievements that
- 16:10Speaker 2: you were able to grindbreaking achievements that you were able
- 16:13Speaker 2: to do with the movie Black Panther.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Yes, I was part of the team, and you're right,
- 16:19Speaker 5: You're correct, I was the only black guy that was
- 16:21Speaker 5: part of the strategy for distributing Black Panther. And what
- 16:24Speaker 5: I mean about distribution, Uh, you know, I was one
- 16:27Speaker 5: of the people that, uh designed the strategy as far
- 16:31Speaker 5: as what what demographic market area of Black Panther will
- 16:34Speaker 5: be released in right, and that's based on you know,
- 16:37Speaker 5: everything from Race Creed, you know. So yes, I was
- 16:41Speaker 5: a part of that, uh, that strategy on how he
- 16:44Speaker 5: was going to launch that and Black Panther went on
- 16:46Speaker 5: to make one point three billion dollars. So yes, at
- 16:50Speaker 5: the time when questions were asked of me, do you
- 16:52Speaker 5: think that this would be a successful movie, because like
- 16:55Speaker 5: you said, uh, it was directed by black you know,
- 16:58Speaker 5: Ryan Coogler, a black director, and it was the first
- 17:01Speaker 5: film in history to have an all black cast, which
- 17:04Speaker 5: was you know, Angela basket far As with a good
- 17:06Speaker 5: chat with Bozeman, Michael be jordans On and so forth.
- 17:09Speaker 5: You know, it was a risk for the studios from
- 17:11Speaker 5: their vantage points, you know. So, but yes, all those
- 17:15Speaker 5: things were factors in it, and and even all the
- 17:17Speaker 5: way down to when we were talking about, you know
- 17:19Speaker 5: what months should we should we actually release it in?
- 17:22Speaker 5: And uh, obviously you know, I see the month of February.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Why because it's Black History Month and that you know,
- 17:28Speaker 5: that means something to us. So absolutely, I was very
- 17:31Speaker 5: proud to do that, and also excited to get get
- 17:34Speaker 5: phone calls from the likes of stars that were actually
- 17:38Speaker 5: renting out the theater so that the uh, the underprivileged
- 17:41Speaker 5: community could actually go and and and screen the movie.
- 17:44Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying, the ones that couldn't afford it.
- 17:46Speaker 5: So very proud of my of my people, if you will,
- 17:49Speaker 5: my brothers and sisters who who did things like that,
- 17:51Speaker 5: who had the means to to make that available to everybody.
- 17:56Speaker 3: You know, Major, I'm talking to Sergeant Major Keith L. Craig.
- 18:00Speaker 2: You know, I've been in Hollywood since ninety three, went
- 18:06Speaker 2: out there in nineteen ninety doing stand up comedy, actually
- 18:09Speaker 2: started writing on television shows in ninety four and been
- 18:14Speaker 2: fortunate to write on anywhere from The Parkers, the Jamie.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Fox Show, The Sister Sisters, the.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Robert Townsend Show, The Parkers I mean Robert towns to
- 18:23Speaker 2: your Parenthood as well as Arsenial Hall and that whole
- 18:26Speaker 2: period of writing. And I hope put It is distributing
- 18:29Speaker 2: the whole put relationship. Tell everybody, what exactly is your
- 18:32Speaker 2: role in Hollywood?
- 18:35Speaker 5: Well, my role in Hollywood is, like you say, I
- 18:37Speaker 5: think the young people call a plug, right, because my
- 18:41Speaker 5: clients are the networks when you talk about hbos, the
- 18:44Speaker 5: Stars to show Times, you know, the netflixes and all
- 18:49Speaker 5: of those along with it, broadcasting the digital pieces of it.
- 18:53Speaker 5: You know, I have the ability to when people have
- 18:55Speaker 5: finished films, to get their content, to find they find
- 18:59Speaker 5: a good home for their content.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 19:00Speaker 5: I think that's very, very, very important. And I also
- 19:05Speaker 5: you mentioned earlier why they called me to Hollo Whisper.
- 19:08Speaker 5: I think it has something to do with us trying
- 19:10Speaker 5: to protect the filmmakers, because you know what we speak
- 19:13Speaker 5: to five and six filmmakers every day, and what we're
- 19:17Speaker 5: noticing is they go into the filmmaking piece of it
- 19:23Speaker 5: with understanding that it's three pieces to filmmaking, the pre
- 19:27Speaker 5: production and production and post production. So the flowing that
- 19:31Speaker 5: though is by the time you finish post production, your editing,
- 19:33Speaker 5: so and so forth, you actually are out of money,
- 19:37Speaker 5: you know. So it's what my partner and I, Jeff Porter,
- 19:39Speaker 5: what we do is we teach people there are six phases.
- 19:42Speaker 5: Maybe teaches the wrong word, but we we coach teach
- 19:45Speaker 5: to mentor that there's six phases. You know. The additional
- 19:49Speaker 5: three phases is branding, marketing, and then distribution. So it's
- 19:53Speaker 5: very important that you say almost a third of your
- 19:56Speaker 5: budgets that you looking at as a production budget to
- 19:59Speaker 5: make sure that film actually it does the business that
- 20:02Speaker 5: you wanted to do at the box office.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Now, let me ask you this, because you know the
- 20:06Speaker 2: streaming is out here. You got a big old writers
- 20:07Speaker 2: strike going on, and you and you're in distribution, and
- 20:11Speaker 2: then you got all these titles. You know, I look
- 20:13Speaker 2: at a lot of streaming channels out there and that
- 20:15Speaker 2: go and they say the word free, and then I
- 20:17Speaker 2: see all these these movies, these blockbusters from back in
- 20:22Speaker 2: the day, and they start to collect all these catalogs.
- 20:25Speaker 2: As a distributor, how do you align yourself with certain
- 20:30Speaker 2: channels or streaming channels to say this is where I
- 20:32Speaker 2: want to take your product or do you wait for
- 20:34Speaker 2: them to ask you for the opportunity to distribute your products?
- 20:39Speaker 5: Do you mean the filmmakers, Yes, sir, No, you know,
- 20:43Speaker 5: we we both right, we we we look for films
- 20:46Speaker 5: that we you know, that we're interested in, right and
- 20:48Speaker 5: also you know, filmmakers look for us people that are
- 20:51Speaker 5: interested in getting results. Because as we make a name
- 20:54Speaker 5: for ourself obviously my my resume, you know, mixed pep.
- 21:00Speaker 5: You know, let's let's at least just check these guys
- 21:02Speaker 5: out and from there we just do good business, you
- 21:04Speaker 5: know what I'm saying. We, like I said earlier, we're
- 21:06Speaker 5: all about transparency and integrity, things that nature. And we
- 21:10Speaker 5: have direct relationships with these platforms. So if you bring
- 21:13Speaker 5: a film to us, it's not a it's not if
- 21:16Speaker 5: you can get it there. We have relationships. We know
- 21:19Speaker 5: what these networks of these digital platforms are looking for.
- 21:21Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying. Even when we sit on
- 21:23Speaker 5: a monthly basis with these broadcasters, these network stations, right,
- 21:27Speaker 5: the conversation is, you know, we're looking for a boc
- 21:31Speaker 5: These are the components what we're looking for right now,
- 21:33Speaker 5: whether it be all female lead driven cast with humor
- 21:37Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying, Or is it are you
- 21:39Speaker 5: looking for, you know, horror with some mystery in it. Well,
- 21:43Speaker 5: we know what those we know what those apps are.
- 21:46Speaker 5: So when we come back once we find a filmmaker
- 21:49Speaker 5: that we we think either they're going into making the film,
- 21:52Speaker 5: you know, with with with those components you know of
- 21:56Speaker 5: that production there, or we you know, we take what
- 22:00Speaker 5: they have, we find what they already have, and we
- 22:02Speaker 5: shot and we bring it to the networks and they,
- 22:04Speaker 5: you know, we sign a licensing deal.
- 22:05Speaker 1: We know.
- 22:06Speaker 2: It's interesting because I'm really trying to wrap my head
- 22:08Speaker 2: around this because you know, it's like, you know, as
- 22:10Speaker 2: a writer, I knew I got a check for writing
- 22:12Speaker 2: there's a stand up. I got a check for telling
- 22:13Speaker 2: my jokes. As a manager, I got commission check. How
- 22:16Speaker 2: does it you know, I'm not trying to get in
- 22:18Speaker 2: any detail, but how does a person like you make money?
- 22:21Speaker 2: So people can understand how the process works.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Sure, As as a distributor, right, there's obviously there are
- 22:29Speaker 5: services fees. Right, so when you bring a movie, a
- 22:31Speaker 5: finished a finished movie to us. Whatever. There's a there's
- 22:33Speaker 5: a services fee attached to that based on how we
- 22:37Speaker 5: service you. You know what I'm saying. We get your film
- 22:39Speaker 5: on Netflix, then you know, become a partner. It's a partnership. Okay,
- 22:44Speaker 5: so you said you say, you know, you say, STARTINGT major,
- 22:47Speaker 5: starting major, Craig, I have a film. Okay, send me
- 22:50Speaker 5: over screenlink, just take a look at it. You know,
- 22:53Speaker 5: Once we look at that film, we say, okay, we
- 22:55Speaker 5: think we got a home for that film. Let's let's
- 22:57Speaker 5: send it over to talk to you know, this person
- 23:00Speaker 5: with this network. See what they say and from Once
- 23:02Speaker 5: we get the the the A A from that network,
- 23:05Speaker 5: we come back and report to Rason this is this
- 23:08Speaker 5: is the offer.
- 23:09Speaker 6: You know we got to offer.
- 23:11Speaker 5: We're going to do a counter and ask for these
- 23:13Speaker 5: type of you know, these changes, these stipulations.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Let me ask you this now you got my mind flowing. Now, okay,
- 23:20Speaker 2: So do you do? Do you do like specials like
- 23:24Speaker 2: music specials if it's produced, could I bring that to
- 23:27Speaker 2: you or you just do films a series? What what
- 23:30Speaker 2: can one bring to you?
- 23:33Speaker 5: Well, you could bring everything for us to take a
- 23:35Speaker 5: look at it, right obviously, Uh, the full features are
- 23:38Speaker 5: the most sought after things by the broadcasters. But and
- 23:42Speaker 5: when you're talking about the music productions, right, obviously you
- 23:45Speaker 5: have to have their clearances associated with that, right, So
- 23:48Speaker 5: you got to make sure all your homework are done.
- 23:50Speaker 5: If you got song that somebody else owns, well, you
- 23:53Speaker 5: got to go get clearing right, right for all of that,
- 23:55Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. So, and we were we
- 23:57Speaker 5: would require all of that. You got to make sure
- 23:58Speaker 5: you got e ANDO insurance arisonal missions insurance. This is
- 24:01Speaker 5: the insurance is to cover you if somebody assues you
- 24:04Speaker 5: because you didn't get total clearance. Are your work or
- 24:06Speaker 5: your move too fast I'm saying. So it's very important
- 24:09Speaker 5: you know, to uhh, just check all your blocks out
- 24:12Speaker 5: and we'll make sure. If you're bringing something to us,
- 24:14Speaker 5: first of all, it has to have the production value
- 24:16Speaker 5: based on what you say in the budget was right,
- 24:19Speaker 5: you know, optically, these people are professionals, so they know
- 24:22Speaker 5: what something costs or did not cost, you know what
- 24:24Speaker 5: I'm saying. So we looking at the production value to
- 24:26Speaker 5: make sure you got the red cameras or the or
- 24:29Speaker 5: the black magics, and so on and so forth, and
- 24:31Speaker 5: and and the alent you know, acting the talent. Everything
- 24:34Speaker 5: is you know, uh a component of for successful you know, partnership.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Wow, Hey, Sargeant Major, please tell people how they how
- 24:42Speaker 2: they can reach out to you.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Was it website?
- 24:45Speaker 1: Is it?
- 24:46Speaker 3: What number? How can you reach you?
- 24:47Speaker 2: Because I next time I bring you on, We're gonna
- 24:50Speaker 2: start this different. We're gonna take some phone calls because
- 24:52Speaker 2: you you pushing that information that people need to know
- 24:55Speaker 2: because don't.
