- 0:00The B-side and boxing.
- 0:02B-side shit.
- 0:03B-side.
- 0:04B-side.
- 0:05And the B-side.
- 0:05You got a B-side.
- 0:07The B-side.
- 0:08B-side.
- 0:08B-side.
- 0:09B-side.
- 0:10That B-side thing.
- 0:11This is the B-Sides Boxing Podcast.
- 0:21Don't call it a comeback,
- 0:23because did we?
- 0:25We didn't fucking leave.
- 0:27Boxing B-sides bitches all up in your ears.
- 0:31I've been saying earpokes over on the MMA show lately.
- 0:35Nice.
- 0:37So, been a while.
- 0:39So there's a lot that's going on.
- 0:40So we're just going to cut straight to business.
- 0:43This is just a bit of a review of some stuff that's happened.
- 0:47Quite a bit of it.
- 0:48But it's going to be mostly top lines.
- 0:50Nothing too in the weeds here.
- 0:53So we're going to start Saturday, October 26th.
- 0:57We're going that far back.
- 0:59Jack Cattarall versus Regis Progre.
- 1:03Woof.
- 1:04Can somebody start?
- 1:05Because I'm still at a loss for words for this one.
- 1:07I mean, it wasn't fun.
- 1:09No.
- 1:11It's nothing exciting to talk about, which makes it hard.
- 1:15Yeah.
- 1:17Do you think Progre's is pretty much done?
- 1:20Because I kind of thought he was already done,
- 1:21but he keeps getting these fights.
- 1:24I think he's a decent gatekeeper.
- 1:27That's as far as he's going to go now.
- 1:29Yeah.
- 1:30The guy's name value, that's pretty much it.
- 1:33But yeah, he's relegated to the top of the B, bottom of the A tier.
- 1:39It's unfortunate.
- 1:39But Cattarall doesn't need to be fighting those guys anymore.
- 1:44Oh, Cattarall's not much better.
- 1:45Yeah, I was going to say that's kind of the problem for Cattarall.
- 1:49He's not a whole lot better than Progre is.
- 1:53Yeah, he's probably, yeah, probably
- 1:55going to be the same career, honestly, just two gatekeepers.
- 1:59Two gatekeepers fighting each other.
- 2:02Looking at the top of the list for 140,
- 2:07Devin Haney, whatever his faults may be, still holds the title.
- 2:12Teofima Lopez has another one.
- 2:14Again, flawed character, Liam Paro.
- 2:17Subriel Matias, who we'll talk about in a little, maybe a little bit.
- 2:23Andy Hiraoka and Arnold Barbosa just had a big night recently.
- 2:29It's a tough, tough outings for old Jack.
- 2:34Yeah.
- 2:35Yeah, I tell people if you miss this one, don't bother with it.
- 2:39It's a hard sell.
- 2:44Moving on, Friday, November 1st is in Belfast.
- 2:49Pro Box debut in the UK.
- 2:52Patrick McCrory versus Leonard Carrillo and Robbie Debs Jr.
- 2:57versus Javier Fortuna both got the points decision.
- 3:00They didn't have judges for this.
- 3:03I don't understand why when the Brits use the ref
- 3:08and when they use the judges.
- 3:10Doesn't make sense.
- 3:11Pro Box is big enough.
- 3:12I would assume they could get judges.
- 3:15And McCrory is not a big name, but I've heard of them before.
- 3:20Same with Robbie Debs Jr.
- 3:22If you're a degenerate that keeps up a bit, even a little bit with the British scene,
- 3:29you know who these two are.
- 3:30And I expect that they're big names over there.
- 3:33Interesting.
- 3:35But Javier Fortuna, maybe because he's, I don't know, like three years retired,
- 3:41many years removed from his best days.
- 3:44Yeah.
- 3:45But yeah, that's that.
- 3:48Points decision for both of them.
- 3:49Congrats, I guess.
- 3:51Saturday, November 2nd at the Turning Stone Resort.
- 3:55Top rank.
- 3:56Oh, I only picked the top three for this one.
- 3:59Top ranks, top three fights.
- 4:01From the bottom, Ray Morataya stops Jesus Campos in the second.
- 4:08I don't know if this was like a confidence booster after the really shaky situation with
- 4:15Tevin Farmer.
- 4:16But yeah, I got that feeling to like give him a bit of a soft touch.
- 4:21Yeah, even though he won.
- 4:24Yeah.
- 4:25Did he though?
- 4:26Did he really?
- 4:27Right.
- 4:28Abraham Nova split draw with Humberto Galindo.
- 4:35Man the Golden Chin.
- 4:37Another one.
- 4:38That one was actually kind of fun to watch though.
- 4:41No?
- 4:42Ah, nah.
- 4:43That's mid.
- 4:44Okay.
- 4:45O'Shaqy Foster reclaims his WBC super featherweight title from Hobson Concesa.
- 4:53Brazilians use H's instead of R's.
- 4:56I think only at the beginning of names.
- 4:59Negative.
- 5:00They do it.
- 5:01It's arbitrary as well.
- 5:02All the time?
- 5:03It's arbitrary.
- 5:04It doesn't make sense.
- 5:05Oh, God.
- 5:06But this Foster, I guess, I don't know, looked like his usual self.
- 5:11I guess he did have a bit more of a sense of urgency.
- 5:14So that's cool.
- 5:15I thought this one was like a lot closer than the first one.
- 5:19I think you could give this one to Concesa if you wanted to.
- 5:23Yeah.
- 5:24Yeah, that's...
- 5:25I mean, I'm not gonna call it a robbery, but I do think this one was a lot closer than
- 5:33the first fight, and I was a little surprised that Foster got it, actually.
- 5:38Do you remember if he called out anyone?
- 5:40Because in-house, it would be a Nav Valdez winner.
- 5:46Seems like it would be the easiest one to make.
- 5:48Yeah, it's been a while.
- 5:50I don't remember him calling anyone out.
- 5:53He did the...
- 5:54I think he did the...
- 5:56I'll take on anybody.
- 5:58Yeah.
- 5:59I don't know, whatever, whoever my promoters, managers, or whatever they're called.
- 6:04But it's been a while.
- 6:05Maybe he called out somebody.
- 6:07We'll see if Nav, when he beats Oscar Valdez again, if he calls out Foster.
- 6:14Who do you think wins that one?
- 6:16Foster or Nav?
- 6:18Yeah.
- 6:19I go Nav.
- 6:20Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with Nav as well.
- 6:23Because if Concei Cao can fight you two really close fights, I don't know if you'll be able
- 6:32to keep Nav off of you.
- 6:34Yeah, I think Navarretta just kind of swarms him.
- 6:38I would have before said...
- 6:41Before this Concei Cao shenanigan stuff, I would have easily said Foster.
- 6:45I wouldn't have thought twice about it, but not so much anymore.
- 6:50Moving up, Thursday, November 7th.
- 6:53This one was in Quebec in Montreal.
- 6:56Eye of the Tiger.
- 6:57Only the headliner, Olys Iglesias stops Petro Ivanov in the fifth.
- 7:03I highlighted this one.
- 7:06Iglesias was that dark horse in the super middleweight division that people were...
- 7:12I don't know if they were just not aware of him or what the case is.
- 7:16But yeah, this is definitely a guy to keep an eye on if you're not already...
- 7:21Yeah, I missed this one.
- 7:22I didn't see it at all.
- 7:24It's fine.
- 7:25All right, moving on to Saturday, November 7th.
- 7:29Superreal Matias stops Roberto Ramirez in the second.
- 7:33Wasn't pretty.
- 7:34I think Ramirez felt the power and just like, he's like, fuck this.
- 7:39Yeah.
- 7:40Do you think Matias is back?
- 7:43Hard to say.
- 7:44Two rounds of a guy who was not too keen on being there any longer than he had to be.
- 7:50Yeah, it's hard to say.
- 7:51And 140 still, like we were talking about with Caterall.
- 7:55It's pretty stacked.
- 7:56And Matias has, I think, Paro showed his limitations or at the old trademark, the blueprint.
- 8:05So you know, if you're a slick type like Devin Haney or Teofimo, that you can keep Matias
- 8:11at the end of your reach.
- 8:14I think that'll be game.
- 8:15They'll just have him flat footing, plotting all night.
- 8:21Moving on to the match room card in Philadelphia from the bottom, Austin Williams versus Kian
- 8:28Garrido.
- 8:29Austin Williams, we're so back, baby.
- 8:32He's ammo again.
- 8:33So that's cool.
- 8:34No more Tiger?
- 8:35No, he switched back.
- 8:37I think maybe a little bit.
- 8:39Where is the Tiger?
- 8:40He heard our podcast and how much we hated the nickname change.
- 8:45Yeah.
- 8:46And how he puts that tail on also.
- 8:50Some furry bullshit.
- 8:52Yeah, I don't know.
- 8:54Austin Williams has shown his limitations as well.
- 8:58Sorry, buddy.
- 8:59You're going to run out of ammo soon.
- 9:05Ray Ford versus Orlando Gonzalez.
- 9:08This is Ray Ford's first fight at 130.
- 9:10He was OK.
- 9:12The commentators were really trying to push this narrative of Ray Ford being more in himself
- 9:20full, filled out his frame, not having to cut so much and so that he's more powerful
- 9:28and blah, blah, blah.
- 9:30No, I don't think so, because otherwise this would have been a stoppage.
- 9:36Good effort.
- 9:37Yes.
- 9:38A for effort for sure.
- 9:39Sometimes it takes a couple fights to really get used to the weight.
- 9:42Could be.
- 9:43OK.
- 9:44Bam Rodriguez stops Pedro Guevara in the third.
- 9:50So good.
- 9:51Yeah.
- 9:52Let me.
- 9:53I'm trying to think of a good pun or something like get get the fucking get the icing out
- 10:00because I'm about to glaze all the whole time.
- 10:06Bam is too legit.
- 10:08Pedro had to quit.
- 10:09Goodness gracious.
- 10:10I don't think there's any overstating how fucking special Bam is.
- 10:15No.
- 10:16And he looked even more special somehow, like his footwork was on point, his punch selection,
- 10:23fucking everything.
- 10:24It was only three rounds, but he looked perfect.
- 10:27The aggression was dialed up a little bit, I noticed.
- 10:30I think once he felt what Pedro was throwing at him, eh, no need to worry.
- 10:35Sonny Edwards hits harder than that.
- 10:40Man oh man.
- 10:41I cannot wait for him to get a shot.
- 10:44Well, I hope Kosei Tanaka gets his rematch with what was it?
- 10:50Kafu?
- 10:51I think it was.
- 10:52Yeah.
- 10:53So those two and then Martinez and Dioka have to settle their score as well.
- 10:58But man, like Bam is the complete package.
- 11:01Honestly, I think Casito would give Bam a harder fight than Martinez would have.
- 11:07Yeah.
- 11:08I think Bam just hits too hard for Martinez.
- 11:10I think Ioka takes more punishment better.
- 11:14And he offers more than just coming forward like Martinez.
- 11:18He's a bit of a trademark flatfoot Mexican.
- 11:22Just a different flavor of Mexican, I guess.
- 11:25But yeah, Bam.
- 11:26Tanaka or Kafu, I think they would be fun while it lasts, but it'll be pretty one sided.
- 11:32Yeah.
- 11:33Everybody's been talking about Bam moving up, which I think he's going to have to.
- 11:37I really don't think there's much competition here for him.
- 11:40118 isn't much better is the unfortunate thing.
- 11:44I want to see him fight Nakatani.
- 11:46Oh shit, that's right.
- 11:48Nakatani is there.
- 11:50Tsutsumi is there.
- 11:52Fuck yeah, dude.
- 11:53I mean, Bam would pick Punch Burger apart.
- 11:58That would just make me sad, I think.
- 12:02Takuma is still around.
- 12:04Yeah.
- 12:05Who else is at 118?
- 12:06There's that new guy, right?
- 12:08The one that's fighting in Osaka.
- 12:09Yeah.
- 12:10Yeah.
- 12:11I finally got tickets for that.
- 12:12Oh, nice.
- 12:13Or a ticket, I guess.
- 12:14Yeah.
- 12:15Literally took me three weeks to figure out how to buy a ticket.
- 12:20I'm excited to see him.
- 12:21I will report back on whether I think Bam beats him in five rounds or seven rounds.
- 12:30Yoshiki Takei needs to be punished for jabbing Daigo Higa.
- 12:36Yeah.
- 12:37Bam could do that.
- 12:40Yes.
- 12:41Jason Maloney, that would be, I don't know, whatever.
- 12:46Yeah, mid.
- 12:47It's a good name, I guess, to pick up, but...
- 12:51Maybe a test fight at 118?
- 12:54Emanuel Rodriguez as well.
- 12:56Those are two good tests.
- 12:58Alejandro Santiago, the guy who Nakatani got his belt off of.
- 13:03That's not a bad one.
- 13:05Oh, shit.
- 13:06Sri Siket Sirungasai is still fighting.
- 13:09He's at 118.
- 13:10You want to get your ass beat again?
- 13:18We're getting into the territory of where you have to start, like, go higher and higher
- 13:24and put more and more physical disadvantages just to make the fights competitive.
- 13:30But I really want to see Bam and Nakatani.
- 13:33Everybody's been talking about Bam jumping that weight class and fighting in a way, but
- 13:39he has to fight Nakatani first.
- 13:41Or at least Takuma, at the very least.
- 13:45Yeah, I think Bam hurts Takuma.
- 13:49But you got to set up the story.
- 13:51Beat up the brother.
- 13:52Then fucking feed poor Takuma to the wolves.
- 13:57Sacrifice.
- 13:58This is your shame for losing.
- 14:02Yeah, we're looking at a generational guy here.
- 14:07This is like Chocolatito like 10 years ago.
- 14:10It's the same type of shit.
- 14:13Well, that's the other rumor, right?
- 14:15Yeah.
- 14:16Bam and Chocolatito?
- 14:17Yeah.
- 14:18But I think Roman didn't want to he didn't want to fight Bam until they had like a little
- 14:22mini camp together for the Estrada fight.
- 14:25And then he's like, oh, well, that's not so bad.
- 14:28I think I think Roman gets done pretty dirty, though.
- 14:32He's he's on the older side.
- 14:34Yeah.
- 14:35And moving up to the main event, Jaron Ennis UD over Karen Chukadzian.
- 14:41I tried to remember that one.
- 14:44Karen, he wins the story of the night.
- 14:47Instead of stinking it out and going the distance, he despite being on the very clearly losing
- 14:53side of it, still had put in a valiant effort and still went the distance with Boots fucking
- 15:00Ennis.
- 15:01That is actually saying a lot.
- 15:02What are your thoughts on this one, Drip?
- 15:04Isn't Boots your hometown fighter?
- 15:05Oh, kind of wish he had a better opponent.
- 15:08Like, I don't know.
- 15:09I think this fight was really necessary.
- 15:11But I don't know if you guys saw this is a little off topic, but I think the post fight
- 15:15pressure Blair Cobbs like tried to crash it, asking for a fight with Boots.
- 15:20And him and Eddie Hearn got into a little bit.
- 15:23It was kind of funny.
- 15:24I was thinking about Boots versus Blair Cobbs would just be unnecessary.
- 15:28Like for everybody.
- 15:29It would be unnecessary.
- 15:30But the Blair Cobbs buildups are always fun.
- 15:34Remember that random ass.
- 15:35Wait, was it Blair Cobbs or Rashidi Ellis that was on that random ass card in like Boston?
- 15:42It had to be Blair Cobbs.
- 15:43It had to be.
- 15:44I think it was that would not go well.
- 15:47I think Karen would turned in a better performance here than Blair Cobbs would against.
- 15:52Yeah, for sure.
- 15:53I don't know.
- 15:54I think for the character, I was kind of just meh.
- 15:57Nothing.
- 15:58It's a little dirty.
- 15:59I'll say that Boots seemed kind of like he was getting frustrated.
- 16:02Oh, yeah.
- 16:03Well, maybe your dad was shitting fucking in your ear.
- 16:07You need to knock him out, bro.
- 16:08Knock him out, bro.
- 16:09Yeah.
- 16:10I know Boots was having a bad night or what, but he seemed a little.
- 16:12It didn't seem like he was doing that well.
- 16:15You know what I mean?
- 16:16As well as you'd expect for Boots, right?
- 16:17Yeah.
- 16:18Like you probably should be able to get Karen out there relatively easily.
- 16:21So I don't know.
- 16:22The fight to me was kind of just meh.
- 16:24Nothing.
- 16:25I was just more taken back how Boots struggled a little bit.
- 16:27I thought I'd get him out there faster, but I guess that kind of now torches that question
- 16:31of Boots versus Bud.
- 16:34How that really goes down.
- 16:35Yeah, not so much.
- 16:37Not so interesting anymore.
- 16:38No.
- 16:39But like I said, maybe maybe Boots had a bad night.
- 16:41I'll kind of just give my pass on that.
- 16:43Everyone has a bad night once in a while.
- 16:44I mean, for example, Triple G versus Dervachenko had a bad night.
- 16:49Still won, barely, but just seemed like he had a bad night.
- 16:51Dervachenko makes everybody have a bad night, though.
- 16:55Even one armed ancient Dervachenko.
- 16:57Yeah.
- 16:58Well, I don't know.
- 16:59We'll see what's next for Boots.
- 17:01Hopefully not Blarcobs.
- 17:02Preferably not that one.
- 17:03That would definitely be a step back.
- 17:07So we'll be talking about this next time, but Mario Barrios recently defended his belt
- 17:13fucking.
- 17:14Barnburner a lot more competitive than you would have expected given Abel Ramos.
- 17:19But so we got Barrios, Staniunis, Brian Norman.
- 17:24Those are the other three champions.
- 17:26I don't think any of them I could see Boots stopping.
- 17:29Brian Norman.
- 17:30Yes.
- 17:31Fucking nobody.
- 17:32He has the WBO belt as tradition.
- 17:36Yeah, I do not recognize this guy's face at all.
- 17:39I have no idea who this man is.
- 17:41He beat Giovanni Sant'Anne to a pulp to win the belt, if I recall correctly.
- 17:47Looks like on the box rec, really short recap, says Sant'Anne down twice in round 10.
- 17:52Yep.
- 17:53I just...
- 17:54Obviously, I'm a bit of a casual, but I do not recognize this man at all.
- 17:59I usually recognize the champion's faces.
- 18:02All right.
- 18:03This is a bit more of a drip question.
- 18:05Hello.
- 18:06Knowing that Drip is a bit of an MMA fan, just as much as boxing, this was a good crossover
- 18:12question.
- 18:14I will leave Drip to describe it.
- 18:17That is a very hot take.
- 18:20So if you want to hear this type of hot take and all of the other nonsensical shit that
- 18:25tends to come out of my mouth, go to patreon.com slash lvxmedianet.
- 18:30Get yourself signed up for the boxing tier or the combat combo tiers for both MMA and
- 18:35boxing.
- 18:36And there you go.
- 18:38You'll get yourself access to very dumb takes like mine.
- 18:43Enjoy.
- 18:44That would be a banger then.
- 18:45That would be a really good one.
- 18:47Barrios would probably get sparked.
- 18:49So that's cool.
- 18:51I like Mario Barrios, but he is not the best boxer for sure.
- 18:56No, not really.
- 18:58He needs to pay for stealing my woman.
- 19:03That's it for the Drone NS card, though, unless you have anything else.
- 19:07No, sir.
- 19:09Last one.
- 19:10Guillermo Rigandao.
- 19:12We're back, baby.
- 19:14Sparks this guy and one.
- 19:17Dennis Aguero takes one shot to the fucking liver, crumples like a baby.
- 19:24Bad, bad, bad, bad.
- 19:28Safe to say at Super Bansomweight, Rigo sparks everyone.
- 19:32Oh, I can't see my face.
- 19:35I was really trying to have like a cheeky expression.
- 19:41Does Rigo have like face scars from his accident?
- 19:45I didn't see this.
- 19:47Yeah, they're not that noticeable, especially with the Vaseline there.
- 19:53But yes, he does.
- 19:55Because it seems well, they must have healed up better than they were originally predicting.
- 20:01But when he first exploded, it was him that exploded the pressure cooker in his face,
- 20:07right?
- 20:08Yes.
- 20:09And burnt his eyes really bad.
- 20:11They didn't think he was going to be able to see very well afterwards.
- 20:14Yeah, one of them was they thought he was going to lose it.
- 20:18Yeah.
- 20:19And then the next thing I heard was like 80 percent vision in the right eye or something.
- 20:24Either the doctors aren't doing a very good job, which would not be a surprise, or he
- 20:30healed up much better than the doctors thought he would.
- 20:33He's a Cuban 44.
- 20:34So I don't know what the fuck they're putting in the water down there, but he still looks
- 20:38like he's 34.
- 20:39I got out of Cuba.
- 20:41Yeah, no shit.
- 20:43Just bring a power generator or some kind.
- 20:46Hi-yo.
- 20:47That's it for the recaps.
- 20:49We got that done a lot quicker than I thought we would.
- 20:51God damn it, Rigo.
- 20:52I have a slightly off topic one that maybe isn't going to fit.
- 20:56But why the fuck is Paro fighting in Puerto Rico?
- 21:01Where is he fighting?
- 21:02Yeah, Puerto Rico again.
- 21:04I don't understand.
- 21:05They love him there.
- 21:07I'm sure they do.
- 21:08You fight where you fight, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
- 21:12Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
- 21:15The way that they're framing it is he's returning to the scene of the crime as if he's robbed
- 21:23Matias or something.
- 21:24I don't know if that's the implication that they're trying to give.
- 21:27But yeah.
- 21:28Because he didn't.
- 21:30No, he didn't crime anything.
- 21:32That was not a robbery.
- 21:35That was like...
- 21:36He's just going back there to say he can do it twice.
- 21:39Send me another one of your champions and I'll beat him too.
- 21:42Yeah, pretty much.
- 21:45It seems so weird to me and I feel kind of bad for him.
- 21:48You should get to fight in front of people that like you.
- 21:50Sometimes you got to be the villain before you be the hero.
- 21:55Yeah, that's true.
- 21:56All right.
- 21:57Something that we'll be talking about later or next time is actually related to Puerto
- 22:03Rico.
- 22:04Matias was their best guy, but has he been usurped ousted by the fucking smallest?
- 22:18That's it.
- 22:19I'm going to put the caps here.
- 22:21I demand somewhere in this, Leo, you play the boys are back in town.
- 22:25Sure.
- 22:26I'll play it in the beginning.
- 22:29One of my favorite songs.
- 22:30I did a figure skating routine to it when I was a child.
- 22:37That's great.
- 22:38Yeah, I really liked Trooper.
- 22:42My dad had like a cassette, so I did a bunch of figure skating routines to different Trooper
- 22:47songs.
- 22:48Do we do we need parting words?
- 22:52Fucking you know what?
- 22:53My parting words are is hindsight is 2020.
- 22:57I always knew Boots was a fucking bum.
- 23:02Yeah.
- 23:06Jokes and jokes.
- 23:07All right, that's it.
