- 4:53Speaker 1: along with Bradley Cooper as Oscar winning Bradley Cooper and
- 4:56Speaker 1: Lady Gaga. Please work on the Monday Making conversation, Gregg Grunberg,
- 5:02Speaker 1: Thank you so much for having a great introduction. Hey, Greg,
- 5:06Speaker 1: you know when you when you have a career, man,
- 5:08Speaker 1: don't you let it hang out on Wikipedia exactly. You
- 5:13Speaker 1: don't have to point people to IMDb. You know, my man,
- 5:17Speaker 1: you are special man. Like I said, we accounted each
- 5:19Speaker 1: other for the first time UM in New York and
- 5:22Speaker 1: at uh at New York Entrepreneurship event, and you interviewed
- 5:27Speaker 1: me on your show, and we had a lot of
- 5:29Speaker 1: a lot of you know, like Susan Andrew pad We
- 5:31Speaker 1: kind of like I knew a lot of the same people.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And that explains a lot about your career because relationships
- 5:36Speaker 1: play a major role in under success of your career. Correct,
- 5:40Speaker 1: That's very true. I mean when you when you come
- 5:42Speaker 1: across somebody, I felt the same way about you. You
- 5:44Speaker 1: know there, there's a there's an honesty, there's a you
- 5:47Speaker 1: know there. There are a lot of people in entertainment
- 5:51Speaker 1: and uh and yet there are very few. And that's
- 5:53Speaker 1: what I mean by that is there's so many people
- 5:55Speaker 1: trying to knock down the door, trying to make things happen.
- 5:57Speaker 1: But when you do get a taste of you get
- 6:00Speaker 1: an opportunity to work with people you want to work
- 6:01Speaker 1: with people that you like, that you trust, and that
- 6:04Speaker 1: you know, you know you can count on, and see
- 6:06Speaker 1: you turn to those people over and over again. And
- 6:07Speaker 1: in those cases, inevitably you're gonna cross paths with people
- 6:11Speaker 1: that have uh, you know, relationships in common. That's what
- 6:14Speaker 1: happen to us. I was like, you started talking about people,
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know. I knew it was inevitable, you know, but absolutely.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Now here's the here's the fune part about my relationship
- 6:23Speaker 1: with great so because but I would just let him
- 6:25Speaker 1: know he inspired me, and I wanted the people returning.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Why are you the inspiration? So I'm reading USA today
- 6:31Speaker 1: and that they did an article they don't still don't
- 6:34Speaker 1: they still do it. They do a little tech article
- 6:36Speaker 1: people are doing things outside their normal profession. And it
- 6:39Speaker 1: was a Yaws mobile coupons and he created, he co created,
- 6:44Speaker 1: and it was about you know, and he uses y'alls
- 6:46Speaker 1: of to find coupons and discounts for stores and establishments
- 6:49Speaker 1: that are in your local area. Now, when I read that,
- 6:53Speaker 1: it was a change of jealousy. I don't saying because
- 6:56Speaker 1: he was doing something out of his norm. You know,
- 6:59Speaker 1: this man, it was living his life, and I thought
- 7:02Speaker 1: that was beautiful and I and I went, you know something,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and that's when I started money making conversations online with Facebook.
- 7:08Speaker 1: I said, okay, make time to do you do what
- 7:11Speaker 1: you want to do besides what other people tell you
- 7:13Speaker 1: you're supposed to be doing. Yeah, tell everybody about the
- 7:17Speaker 1: development of that app and why I became an important
- 7:20Speaker 1: part of your career planning. I'd love to. And I
- 7:23Speaker 1: learned a lot from it. Um, all good? What what
- 7:26Speaker 1: what happened was? You know, I was an early adopter
- 7:28Speaker 1: of technology and as far as how it relitted my
- 7:31Speaker 1: my career. Right. So Twitter came along, apps were happening, Um,
- 7:36Speaker 1: but before Twitter, there was apps and the apps. To me,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I immediately saw an opportunity. I saw it like it
- 7:42Speaker 1: was like an industrial revolution for people that once again
- 7:46Speaker 1: you didn't have to have machinery, didn't have to have
- 7:48Speaker 1: the tools were right there digitally for you to just
- 7:51Speaker 1: come up and still to this day come up with
- 7:53Speaker 1: an idea that could change the world, and and and
- 7:56Speaker 1: and and you always looked for a problem. So my
- 7:59Speaker 1: wife and I, you know, we are coupon people. I
- 8:02Speaker 1: mean I it's just to be smart about it, right.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And so one of the stores that we we visit
- 8:07Speaker 1: all time. Is that Bath and Beyond. We got three boys,
- 8:11Speaker 1: you know, so thatth and Beyond. They their business structure
- 8:15Speaker 1: is all about using those coupons. They mail it out
- 8:17Speaker 1: to everyone. But they're and they're huge, They're big cardboard coupons.
- 8:21Speaker 1: They couldn't be more wasteful, right as far as the planets.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But but most people leave them at home. So you
- 8:28Speaker 1: get there and you go, coupon at home. Whatever, We
- 8:31Speaker 1: left it in the car. So we're walking in, you know,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and I couldn't be more lazy. So I'm walking in
- 8:36Speaker 1: and I'm thinking, I don't even want to go back
- 8:38Speaker 1: to the car to get my coupon. And it hit me,
- 8:41Speaker 1: why doesn't someone come up with an app? This is
- 8:43Speaker 1: at that time realized nothing. I didn't know of anything
- 8:46Speaker 1: out there, and there really wasn't anything up that this simple.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Why doesn't someone come up with an app that there's
- 8:51Speaker 1: geo location In the app, the phone knows where you are,
- 8:53Speaker 1: so you push one button and it brings up knowing
- 8:56Speaker 1: your location, brings up all the stores within a net
- 8:59Speaker 1: that you said, so whether it's one mile five miles
- 9:03Speaker 1: around you, all the coupons that are available and not.
- 9:06Speaker 1: You know, at that time, four square was out there,
- 9:09Speaker 1: so you had to check in as the mayor and
- 9:10Speaker 1: earned points and it's kind of gamified. I didn't want
- 9:13Speaker 1: to do that at all. I was thinking about it.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I always use the term mom proof because my mom,
- 9:18Speaker 1: you know, she's in her seventies, um, and my dad's
- 9:21Speaker 1: in his eighties. And my mom can't push one button
- 9:24Speaker 1: and uh and and use whatever services is you know
- 9:28Speaker 1: out there, then it's not worth it. It's too complicated.
- 9:31Speaker 1: People want simplicity and they want to be able to
- 9:33Speaker 1: do that. And if you were in a mall and
- 9:36Speaker 1: you push this button and it directs you to a
- 9:39Speaker 1: given store, I mean that's powerful. That's really really powerful.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So I thought about it and that was that. I mean,
- 9:45Speaker 1: I was like, well, I don't know how to do this,
- 9:47Speaker 1: so so on twitter. UM. I started tweeting and then
- 9:51Speaker 1: I have about a thousand followers at that time, maybe
- 9:54Speaker 1: very very beginning. And a guy follows me and says, hey,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I really like you're acting and if there's anything I
- 9:59Speaker 1: can do, I like the bay and that you have.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I have a charity band helped band from TV and
- 10:03Speaker 1: he said, I really love that is there anything I
- 10:05Speaker 1: can do. I'm I'm a developer, an app developer. Can
- 10:08Speaker 1: I develop something for you so that you can raise
- 10:10Speaker 1: more money for charity? So I looked at uh, we
- 10:12Speaker 1: we we. I looked at Apple. Apple does not have
- 10:15Speaker 1: any do you think about it? Not one app in
- 10:17Speaker 1: the app store helps charities. They just that's not something
- 10:21Speaker 1: that they have developed yet. Um. I haven't looked at
- 10:24Speaker 1: a while, but I think that's still the case. So
- 10:27Speaker 1: it immediately he was I was like, uh, there's nothing
- 10:29Speaker 1: we can do. And then I said, but I do
- 10:31Speaker 1: have this idea to realize I'm using using Twitter and
- 10:35Speaker 1: then I'm open. I'm totally open, like I like you,
- 10:38Speaker 1: and I sit down and in two minutes, that's just
- 10:41Speaker 1: who I am. I've got learned this from my dad.
- 10:43Speaker 1: If somebody says, hey, there's I really want you to
- 10:46Speaker 1: meet this guy and it's about a two hour, three
- 10:47Speaker 1: hour drive, just go, get into your car. Go. You
- 10:51Speaker 1: never know what's going to happen out of that. This
- 10:53Speaker 1: has been my philosophy. Um, and opportunities present themselves, you
- 10:58Speaker 1: take advantage of the ones that are right for you.
- 11:00Speaker 1: This was one that I engaged in a guy on Twitter,
- 11:03Speaker 1: you know, and I have a million and a half
- 11:05Speaker 1: people follow me on Twitter. It's not like I do
- 11:07Speaker 1: this today back then, but I said, you know, I've
- 11:11Speaker 1: got this idea. He freaked out like his because he
- 11:15Speaker 1: was a digital guy or a developer. He was looking
- 11:19Speaker 1: at it seeing the benefits of the analytics. Because if
- 11:23Speaker 1: if you push a button, let's say you're standing outside
- 11:25Speaker 1: of a clothing store and push a button to sends
- 11:28Speaker 1: you into that store, now you use the coupon, the
- 11:31Speaker 1: store lays out three coupons in the apps. If you
- 11:33Speaker 1: use the one for socks or for slacks or for sure,
- 11:37Speaker 1: now they know you're buying habits. And now that that
- 11:40Speaker 1: information is tremendously I didn't even think about that side
- 11:43Speaker 1: of it. Oh my man, you go to talk about
- 11:45Speaker 1: it dot org. Thank you man for being on my show.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And if I need you, are you? I am a

- 13:48Speaker 1: uh Washington, d C. I was down there to see
- 13:51Speaker 1: Richie Leu Dennis Um speak. Well, it was a big
- 13:54Speaker 1: event put on for essence by Sheet my good friend
- 13:57Speaker 1: Sheildrich and I met him and he impressed me enough
- 14:01Speaker 1: to convince me that he should be on my show.
- 14:04Speaker 1: And guess what, he deserves to be on my show
- 14:06Speaker 1: because he does what I feel everybody should understand. He's
- 14:09Speaker 1: self motivated. He's a solo preneurs entrepreneur, as they say it,
- 14:13Speaker 1: solo preneur. My next Guest is an international journalist and
- 14:16Speaker 1: media specialist. His blog is dedicated to promoting the arts
- 14:20Speaker 1: and shredding light on the amazing talents this world has
- 14:23Speaker 1: to offer, with over five million hits to date. With
- 14:26Speaker 1: a degree in journalism, pr and marketing and a minor
- 14:29Speaker 1: in music. The Media Prints holds the bar high and
- 14:33Speaker 1: showcase and innovative works that go from celebrity clientele to
- 14:36Speaker 1: up and coming talent. Please welcome to money making conversation.
- 14:40Speaker 1: The CEO of the Media Prints Lankston Vincent having a
- 14:47Speaker 1: long time man, well, so journ. Why I hope you've
- 14:49Speaker 1: been out there doing it, been doing it well? And
- 14:54Speaker 1: what is that when you say that trying to stay
- 14:56Speaker 1: busy working, Because I try to let everybody in know
- 14:58Speaker 1: different shades of success that you can do in life.
- 15:01Speaker 1: How many there's many of the doors you can open
- 15:03Speaker 1: to be successful and not be and not be limited.
- 15:06Speaker 1: So you are an entrepreneur in the media space, tell
- 15:08Speaker 1: everybody exactly what you do. Okay. So of course our
- 15:12Speaker 1: own the media prints dot com. It's a website dedicates
- 15:16Speaker 1: dedicated to showing all faster of art. You know, art
- 15:20Speaker 1: can be anything, music, dance, poetry, athletics, politics, and I've
- 15:25Speaker 1: had a background in writing for bigger publications, but they
- 15:28Speaker 1: don't give a voice to you know, the up and
- 15:30Speaker 1: coming talent at the time of that needs to be seen.
- 15:32Speaker 1: So I wanted to create a platform to where I
- 15:36Speaker 1: can showcase those exact talents and bring them to a
- 15:39Speaker 1: bigger platform now and showcasing them. How do they reach
- 15:43Speaker 1: you or do you just go around different clubs you
- 15:45Speaker 1: see talent and say hey, this is who I am.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Allow me to publish, publish a story on you or
- 15:51Speaker 1: post something. How does that work? Well? At first, when
- 15:54Speaker 1: I first came out, of course, I did a lot
- 15:56Speaker 1: of reaching out because you know, I have to. You
- 15:57Speaker 1: have to do the groundwork there. You don't know your name,
- 16:00Speaker 1: your name and trust you currently now they're emailing out
- 16:06Speaker 1: the woolworks there you go. And so when they email you,
- 16:10Speaker 1: what are their expectations? Uh? So you're the media prints
- 16:13Speaker 1: and you're streaming like you bringing exposure right to for
- 16:16Speaker 1: new talent. And I think I wrote it down and
- 16:19Speaker 1: said fashion, music, politics, athletics. You can be a disc jock,
- 16:24Speaker 1: paint or disc jockey, which is radio or music and
- 16:29Speaker 1: in the club painters, poets, you name it. You're there
- 16:32Speaker 1: to expose those lanes. Uh could could a comedian following that?
- 16:36Speaker 1: Could an actor follow in that lane as well? Control again,
- 16:39Speaker 1: because there's an artist of what they do, so it
- 16:41Speaker 1: definitely can fall a lout on the website. Now, with
- 16:44Speaker 1: that being said, what is the day in the life
- 16:46Speaker 1: of the media? Prints? You know, because the media happens
- 16:49Speaker 1: in twenty four hours a day. You know, you have
- 16:51Speaker 1: TMZ out there. They seem to be at the airport
- 16:53Speaker 1: catching people fighting, can catch you coming out of the restaurant.
- 16:57Speaker 1: They're all over the place. How you're based in d C?
- 17:00Speaker 1: And we were you know, we said international. I saw
- 17:02Speaker 1: the word right there, international journalists and media specialists. Yes, sir,
- 17:06Speaker 1: you're based in d C. How are you international? Well,
- 17:10Speaker 1: right now the site is trending in twenty five countries.
- 17:12Speaker 1: So each when they get my analytics from the website,
- 17:16Speaker 1: shut down. You go shut me down like I'm just
- 17:19Speaker 1: right now I'm trending in countries. Congratulations. Actually, we just
- 17:25Speaker 1: got um six million hits finally clicked on the website
- 17:28Speaker 1: last week and right now we're getting a big love
- 17:32Speaker 1: from Australia, so that's one of the highest countries right now.
- 17:35Speaker 1: They get on the website a lot. Now, do you
- 17:37Speaker 1: travel Langston? I do. We just got back to not
- 17:41Speaker 1: too long ago. We were just in l A for
- 17:43Speaker 1: the BT weekend covering the BT Awards. That gets you
- 17:47Speaker 1: a lot of traffic yes, now we're on the red
- 17:50Speaker 1: carpet down there or were you just going to the
- 17:52Speaker 1: red carpet? Um? I did the fan Fast and so
- 17:57Speaker 1: many stars were having different events, so I covered like
- 18:00Speaker 1: shop openings, listening parties, album parties. So we were everywhere.
- 18:06Speaker 1: When I say I didn't get any sleep in l A,
- 18:08Speaker 1: I had absolutely no sleep. So that's the goal though, right,
- 18:12Speaker 1: you know, no sleep? Now you know you come back
- 18:14Speaker 1: where arrested. That was just a vacation. You can't go
- 18:20Speaker 1: to the p D Awards and come back where arrested. Yeah,
- 18:24Speaker 1: I slept long hours, man, I didn't go to any party.
- 18:26Speaker 1: So what what what stood out for you the most
- 18:28Speaker 1: when you cover an event like that because you're the
- 18:30Speaker 1: you're own the red carpet, and you got all these
- 18:32Speaker 1: parties and now you know from experience, I know exactly
- 18:35Speaker 1: what you're talking about. They can they can, they can
- 18:36Speaker 1: go on long forever. You know, you could be standing
- 18:40Speaker 1: at the party and right next to you it just
- 18:42Speaker 1: alble could walk up to you and just be standing
- 18:44Speaker 1: right next to you. That's how those parties are. I'm
- 18:46Speaker 1: just letting you know. They're that they're that casual. But
- 18:48Speaker 1: also there they don't but because the music is so loud,
- 18:52Speaker 1: you really can't do anything with them. You know, you
- 18:55Speaker 1: just what's up interest and just you can't stick a
- 18:57Speaker 1: microphone in their face because the fact that you can,
- 19:00Speaker 1: I get a selfie out of them, you know the most.
- 19:03Speaker 1: So when you're in these environments, you run it and
- 19:05Speaker 1: you run into talent. How did you handle those and
- 19:09Speaker 1: how do you establish the relationships? Well, I'm gonna be
- 19:12Speaker 1: quite honest. That's where I have my my publicist. She's
- 19:15Speaker 1: a bulldog. She's always ready. That's the young lady you
- 19:19Speaker 1: mat inde. She is a bulldog. No matter what what
- 19:23Speaker 1: event we go into, were coming with a game plan.
- 19:25Speaker 1: We know who the key players are with this event
- 19:28Speaker 1: is about and who we need to talk to. So
- 19:30Speaker 1: when we go and she'll say do you need a
- 19:32Speaker 1: picture or you need an interview, I just say either
- 19:34Speaker 1: or And before the events of it, I have either
- 19:37Speaker 1: a picture or an interview. Now I'm gonna just tell
- 19:40Speaker 1: you something. You know, we say bulldog. That's a very
- 19:43Speaker 1: complimentary term because she because that's how I met him. Okay,
- 19:48Speaker 1: I was there. I had Tracy, she's one of my
- 19:50Speaker 1: one of my creative producers. She said, Rishon this young
- 19:53Speaker 1: lady wants to talk to you. And I looked over there,
- 19:56Speaker 1: I go. I didn't know who she was, but she
- 19:59Speaker 1: came over, had a very polite, effective speech. This is
- 20:03Speaker 1: important to everybody here how you create relationships. You know,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I'm a stranger to her and she's a stranger to me,
- 20:10Speaker 1: but she was able to network immediately. And that's why
- 20:12Speaker 1: we're communicating today, and that's how we're expanding your brand
- 20:16Speaker 1: and your popularity. Because that's all his interviews about to
- 20:18Speaker 1: let people know about the media prints. Correct, correct, correct, Now,
- 20:23Speaker 1: let's let's geto little details about what exactly you do
- 20:26Speaker 1: because you have a blog, correct, I own a blog site.
- 20:30Speaker 1: What exactly is a blog? Well, a blog is a
- 20:34Speaker 1: platform where you're free to just write however you fail.
- 20:37Speaker 1: So of course they have all types of blogs. They
- 20:39Speaker 1: have food blogs, lifestyle blogs, flash fashion blogs. Um, but
- 20:45Speaker 1: my blog um kind of is a fine line between
- 20:49Speaker 1: actual blog site and a website website. Right, So of
- 20:53Speaker 1: course I have I can write whatever it wants on there,
- 20:56Speaker 1: but it's also in website for entertainment website format, so
- 21:00Speaker 1: it kind of varies between those two forms, and I'm
- 21:02Speaker 1: just free to write. Um, it's allowed me to do
- 21:04Speaker 1: things like reviews, which is something new now. People invited
- 21:08Speaker 1: me to all the events and stuff to review on it.
- 21:11Speaker 1: My man, I want to thank you for coming on
- 21:13Speaker 1: my show. Can you Can you become a regular on

- 24:12Speaker 1: for women. Please welcome to Money Making Conversation. Her second
- 24:15Speaker 1: appearance Dr Cosette and White Gooding, How are you? I
- 24:20Speaker 1: want to thank you for that very nice. Uh note
- 24:23Speaker 1: you wrote in there you're amazing. Thanks to you for
- 24:25Speaker 1: your support. Okay, that was really cool, you know, really
- 24:28Speaker 1: said something nice about Rashan McDonald your book. Okay, I'm
- 24:35Speaker 1: saying some really great things about your book. And I'm
- 24:38Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna say I'm mad at you about this book. Okay,
- 24:41Speaker 1: but it's still great. It's really great because because you're
- 24:46Speaker 1: not telling your story, your recovery story. Because your story
- 24:49Speaker 1: and I'm talking about the abuse when you when you
- 24:52Speaker 1: got in a relationship where you met met a young
- 24:55Speaker 1: man and after six months I got married and you
- 24:58Speaker 1: have two beautiful kids. But you endured over five you're
- 25:01Speaker 1: five or six year period, uh, darkness of physical violence
- 25:06Speaker 1: that you was able to overcome and you and that's
- 25:08Speaker 1: like maybe like twenty pages in this book. And uh,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and that to me was such a heroic recovery for
- 25:16Speaker 1: you that I want to I want to hear that story.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I want to read that story because step by step, uh,
- 25:22Speaker 1: you did some amazing things there. And then you immediately
- 25:25Speaker 1: go into the you know, the you know, recovery of
- 25:28Speaker 1: how you can will yourself to success through your advice.
- 25:32Speaker 1: But the first part of that book, young lady, is
- 25:34Speaker 1: uh you you overcame some stuff. Can you tell us my, my,
- 25:38Speaker 1: my listeners and viewers about that? Absolutely? Well, first of all,
- 25:42Speaker 1: you know, I got into the situation quick as you can.
- 25:45Speaker 1: As you just said, six months I met a gentleman
- 25:48Speaker 1: and then I got married. Now what I what I
- 25:51Speaker 1: wanted to say to you as well as to the listeners.
- 25:54Speaker 1: It didn't start immediately. It was a build up and
- 25:57Speaker 1: it was basically an individual to start did um. They
- 26:01Speaker 1: brought drugs, brought drugs into the family, and it began
- 26:04Speaker 1: to destroy the family, destroy the marriage, and just destroy everything.
- 26:09Speaker 1: And with that came the abuse. That came the verbal abuse,
- 26:12Speaker 1: the physical abuse. Um. When I say abuse to you
- 26:17Speaker 1: as well as to the listeners, those of you and
- 26:19Speaker 1: I don't want to tell the full story, but it was. Um.
- 26:23Speaker 1: You know, I suffered black eyes, I suffered hot water
- 26:26Speaker 1: being thrown on me. And I still have those cars,
- 26:29Speaker 1: you know, the fox, the bruises. Just I suffered abuse
- 26:34Speaker 1: in those last years of that marriage. Um, in front
- 26:37Speaker 1: of your kids, in front of the kids. Definitely in
- 26:40Speaker 1: front of the kids. And you know, there were so
- 26:43Speaker 1: many times that I asked, could you just leave? Could
- 26:45Speaker 1: you just leave? And and you know, people asked me
- 26:49Speaker 1: to this day, well why didn't you just walk away
- 26:51Speaker 1: from it? What I want to say to everyone, it
- 26:53Speaker 1: sounds easier to just walk away, but you have to
- 26:56Speaker 1: mentally be ready, financially be ready. And it wasn't that
- 27:00Speaker 1: I was not financially ready. That was not the point.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It was just the mental And it got to a
- 27:05Speaker 1: point where I had just had one stock too many,
- 27:08Speaker 1: and I was like, I cannot endure this any longer.
- 27:11Speaker 1: This is not the life that God Um has for me.
- 27:14Speaker 1: This is not how I was raised. This is not
- 27:17Speaker 1: anything that I want to continue being in. Nor do
- 27:20Speaker 1: I want my kids to be in an environment where
- 27:23Speaker 1: they have to see this, Because, as we know UM,
- 27:27Speaker 1: our kids are our kids. Our kids are part of
- 27:32Speaker 1: our They're the makeup of their environment. So whatever they
- 27:35Speaker 1: are raised in, whenever they see growing up, they tend
- 27:39Speaker 1: to take on those same habits. So I didn't want
- 27:41Speaker 1: my daughter to be to grow up and be involved
- 27:43Speaker 1: in a marriage a relationship where a man was abusing her.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Nor did I want my son to be in a
- 27:49Speaker 1: relationship where he felt that he had to put his
- 27:52Speaker 1: hands on another woman. So I had to get out
- 27:54Speaker 1: of that situation and I had to get out of
- 27:56Speaker 1: it quick and you did and I did. I did,
- 28:00Speaker 1: but it wasn't easy as it sound. I asked numerous times. Okay. Now,
- 28:04Speaker 1: that's why I want more from you, and I want
- 28:07Speaker 1: that story told more extensively because it sounds easy in
- 28:10Speaker 1: your book. You know what I'm saying, because because of
- 28:12Speaker 1: the fact that you know now, I know that's a
- 28:14Speaker 1: very painful part to to relive, you know, and the details,
- 28:17Speaker 1: the steps. But I think that and I honestly feel that,
- 28:21Speaker 1: because that's when that's why I wanted you to come
- 28:23Speaker 1: back on the show, and we got to come back
- 28:24Speaker 1: and bring you back again, if you don't mind talking
- 28:27Speaker 1: about more detail about the financial side Unveiling the Mask,
- 28:31Speaker 1: the Ultimate Guide to Rebound from a financial disaster. Dr

- 31:04Speaker 1: parish said we should shut up. My next guest is a.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Is the first female to perform hip hop in the
- 31:10Speaker 1: White House and the first African American female to serve
- 31:13Speaker 1: as president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Recording Academy,

- 31:21Speaker 1: to perform in New York's historic Carnegie Hall, the first
- 31:24Speaker 1: female rapper to ever receive a gold single, the first
- 31:27Speaker 1: female solo rapper ever nominated for a Grammy. In two
- 31:31Speaker 1: thousand and eight, uh mc light became the first solo
- 31:33Speaker 1: female rapper to be honored and ductor on v H
- 31:36Speaker 1: one's Hip Hop Honors. She's a pioneer in the in
- 31:39Speaker 1: the industry. She opened the door for future female hip

- 31:48Speaker 1: Please welcome to money making conversations. She's my good friend
- 31:52Speaker 1: mc light. Hey, Hey, good morning. I had a lot
- 31:57Speaker 1: to say about gmc you know and see see all
- 32:01Speaker 1: good things because you're you're really one of those people
- 32:04Speaker 1: that you know, you're so talented and you're so nice.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Let's get that out the way first. And you're you're
- 32:10Speaker 1: always making a difference in the community, and it's kind
- 32:12Speaker 1: of like you kind of you you know, you need
- 32:15Speaker 1: a Rushan mcdonalod. They're barking for you, telling everybody how
- 32:18Speaker 1: good you are, how special you are, not saying you
- 32:20Speaker 1: don't do it because I see you posting on social media.
- 32:23Speaker 1: You're doing your thing. But then you know, other people
- 32:25Speaker 1: have to say to you. That's why it don't sound
- 32:27Speaker 1: like you're bragging you you know, right right right, No,
- 32:31Speaker 1: I'm all for that, Thank you very much. I'll take it.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I'll take the UH the promo, I'll take the help.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Thank you. Good well, I got some more things I
- 32:38Speaker 1: want to say about you. Okay, here's the part that
- 32:40Speaker 1: I love about you and UM and we're gonna do
- 32:42Speaker 1: some things together and that's in uh, you know, giving
- 32:45Speaker 1: back to the community. Why is that so important to
- 32:48Speaker 1: mc light Oh goodness, UM, it's just the godly thing
- 32:54Speaker 1: to do. You know. I feel like it's so crazy
- 32:57Speaker 1: when we have UH team meetings and you know, getting
- 33:01Speaker 1: everybody piped up to do some great works. It's only
- 33:06Speaker 1: because we're going to bring more notoriety to the brand
- 33:10Speaker 1: that is mc light. But then we're able to garner,
- 33:13Speaker 1: you know, good scenarios with corporations and move one you know,
- 33:18Speaker 1: move money from one pocket to the other. So they
- 33:21Speaker 1: got to get it from the corporation and give it
- 33:24Speaker 1: to the people who need it. And you know, one
- 33:26Speaker 1: of our initiatives is education. Our signature initiative is hashtag
- 33:30Speaker 1: educate our men, but one of our primary focuses with
- 33:34Speaker 1: our hip hop sisters foundations education. So being able to
- 33:40Speaker 1: give back in that way is you know, it's amazing.
- 33:43Speaker 1: It's God said, it's a cool thing about her. She
- 33:47Speaker 1: does what she says. I'm gonna site three examples. You
- 33:51Speaker 1: can google who because that's a lot of about the Internet.
- 33:54Speaker 1: They can find out you're lying real fast. Just say it.
- 33:58Speaker 1: And Steve Harvey show. She just came on my show.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Steve was holsting, I was acutive producing. She awarded a
- 34:07Speaker 1: student on that show a fifty thousand dollars scholarship. Okayen
- 34:13Speaker 1: m c light presents a new scholar, Jaden Johnson, with
- 34:16Speaker 1: a fifty thou dollar scholarship on the red carpet of
- 34:19Speaker 1: the seventeen sold Trained Music Awards. Correct, and just recently
- 34:26Speaker 1: I posted on my social media. Then I turned around
- 34:28Speaker 1: saw she posted on hard Soship media too. My owner shop,
- 34:31Speaker 1: my my owner. Short student awarded a four year mc
- 34:35Speaker 1: light scholarship, becomes the first black woman to earn a
- 34:38Speaker 1: degree in astrophysistics with a with diploma from the University
- 34:43Speaker 1: of Wisconsin at Madison. That's just three examples. Yes, and
- 34:49Speaker 1: we have we have four young men in school right now,
- 34:52Speaker 1: and from what we understand from President kimbro down at
- 34:56Speaker 1: Dillitt University, looks like he may be valedictorian. We are excited. Yeah,
- 35:03Speaker 1: four point oh through his whole existence there at Dillard.
- 35:07Speaker 1: So so this, this is, this is something that you've done.
- 35:12Speaker 1: How did it? How did it all come together? You know,
- 35:14Speaker 1: because we all know that, you know, I was doing
- 35:16Speaker 1: the Neighborhood Awards, and I had the staff, you know,
- 35:19Speaker 1: you know, Steve and I you know, were out in
- 35:21Speaker 1: the front of everything. But you don't do these things
- 35:23Speaker 1: by yourself. Who are to keep people in your life
- 35:26Speaker 1: that keep you moving forward. We're gonna get to the
- 35:29Speaker 1: mc light, the the superstar on stage the Pine. That's
- 35:32Speaker 1: why I put all that out front, the entertainment side,
- 35:35Speaker 1: because I wanted to we we talked about we're gonna
- 35:37Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about that, We're gonna talk about the
- 35:39Speaker 1: app and all that, but I really wanted to talk
- 35:41Speaker 1: about this side because a lot of people don't know
- 35:45Speaker 1: about it, because you know, sometimes that doesn't make the headline.
- 35:48Speaker 1: The goal the sole lot of events, the television appearance
- 35:51Speaker 1: of those making make headlines. But like you just said,
- 35:54Speaker 1: we have four students right now, young men at Dealard University,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and one of them got a four point oh m hm,
- 36:01Speaker 1: and they're all doing well. Uh. One has an internship
- 36:05Speaker 1: at Goldman Sacks up in Seattle, another one has an
- 36:08Speaker 1: internship in Los Angeles at Toyota. Another one is doing
- 36:12Speaker 1: coding for Google, so they're kind of moving him all
- 36:15Speaker 1: around during this summer, and the other is working at
- 36:18Speaker 1: home with his dad and his construction business. But nonetheless,
- 36:22Speaker 1: they are all extremely busy and doing well. So who's
- 36:26Speaker 1: the key person that that that that pushes you, you know,
- 36:29Speaker 1: because you're like, I tell everybody MC like one of
- 36:32Speaker 1: those people, she do what she do, man, she just
- 36:33Speaker 1: drift right back in the shadow who keeps pushing you
- 36:36Speaker 1: out there. That's a young lady to stand it is now,
- 36:40Speaker 1: you know she's not at all. Yes, for sure, it
- 36:46Speaker 1: is Dr Lynn Richardson. And you know we met through
- 36:49Speaker 1: Russell Simmons many moons ago during the Get Your Money
- 36:52Speaker 1: Right UH Time era of eight SAND which is the
- 36:58Speaker 1: Hip Hop Summit Action Network, which she still stands as
- 37:02Speaker 1: CEO of Dr Benjamin Chavis. And she called me up
- 37:07Speaker 1: and asked me, did I want to start a foundation?
- 37:09Speaker 1: And I said, yeah, why not? And I'll tell you what.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Four months later, we had five or one C three
- 37:16Speaker 1: status and we had to one hundred thousand dollars scholarships
- 37:19Speaker 1: to give away at the University of Wisconsin Madison. And
- 37:22Speaker 1: the and the truth is, you know, I've given my
- 37:27Speaker 1: celebrity to many foundations over the years and it's been great,
- 37:31Speaker 1: you know, in a collaborative effort, but nothing nothing beat
- 37:35Speaker 1: starting your own, you know, starting your own foundation and
- 37:38Speaker 1: being able to collaborate with others as a full fledged,
- 37:44Speaker 1: you know, working foundation. Now, I was looking at some
- 37:47Speaker 1: of your advisory board numbers to your foundation, Faith Evans
- 37:51Speaker 1: LETTU see Jada Pinkett Smith, Chili Uh Sheryl uh Salt,
- 37:59Speaker 1: Melinda will use a lot of names here now, Kelly Price, Board, Malcolm,
- 38:04Speaker 1: Jamar Warner and Kenny Lattimore as a Melanie, Fiona, Dr
- 38:11Speaker 1: Benjamin Chavis, Russell Simmons. This is this is uh, this
- 38:16Speaker 1: is a lot of this is a lot of people
- 38:17Speaker 1: that that that that consistently I do are busy, yeah, absolutely,
- 38:23Speaker 1: and those are what we call our ambassadors. And when
- 38:27Speaker 1: we call on them to show up, you know, for
- 38:31Speaker 1: a an address of some sort of press conference, you know,
- 38:37Speaker 1: to talk about the next the next scholarship that we
- 38:41Speaker 1: have to give away. I mean we've actually been on
- 38:43Speaker 1: that red carpet as whole train, I think six years
- 38:47Speaker 1: in a row giving away fifty dollars scholarships and usually
- 38:52Speaker 1: we have two people that we're giving them to, and
- 38:55Speaker 1: so we may call on a board member to come
- 38:58Speaker 1: and help us celebrate and present those scholarships on the
- 39:02Speaker 1: red carpet. And so they all have been uh, you know,
- 39:06Speaker 1: hand selected and we are honored to have them. Good.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Let's talk about a couple of entrepreneur things where we
- 39:13Speaker 1: get out of here. The m C Light app what
- 39:15Speaker 1: is that? And how do you use them? Well? The
- 39:19Speaker 1: M c Light app is available for androids and iPhones.
- 39:23Speaker 1: It's free. It is where you find me. So it's
- 39:26Speaker 1: all the music that people may not hear in various places.
- 39:30Speaker 1: You will definitely be able to get it on em
- 39:33Speaker 1: C light and be able to stream it. And I
- 39:36Speaker 1: released new music all the time, so I make it
- 39:38Speaker 1: specifically for the fans. And then also the schedule is there.
- 39:43Speaker 1: You can see where I'm going to be. If you
- 39:44Speaker 1: want to come out and listen to some good hip
- 39:47Speaker 1: hop and you know, and show your support and dance
- 39:51Speaker 1: and and just be in the company of some good folks.
- 39:55Speaker 1: You can see the schedule there, I think, and pictures
- 39:58Speaker 1: and video. It's just uh, welcome into the MC like
- 40:03Speaker 1: world on your phone. Now, does the does the scholarship
- 40:07Speaker 1: part of pereio app as well? Or just atain there's
- 40:11Speaker 1: actually a link. There's actually a link that goes to it. Yes, okay, cool.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Now what is the Beauty, Brains and Business Tour? What
- 40:20Speaker 1: is that? Oh? Yeah, this is all for the Entrepreneur's wonderful.
- 40:24Speaker 1: It's an intimate conversation. You know, we come into your
- 40:27Speaker 1: city and we uh we pick up space. That's uh
- 40:32Speaker 1: that lends itself to a real serious but lounge scenario.
- 40:38Speaker 1: And so we've done many of them across the nation
- 40:41Speaker 1: and it's been really it's been really awesome, and we come,
- 40:46Speaker 1: you know, full force, and we have about I don't know,
- 40:51Speaker 1: maybe thirty five to seventy women. They're a little bit
- 40:56Speaker 1: smaller and intimate than what we're accustomed to do it.
- 40:59Speaker 1: But now with this particular forum, it lends itself to
- 41:03Speaker 1: people really getting answers to their questions. And it's a
- 41:07Speaker 1: room full of entrepreneurs, women who have owned their own
- 41:11Speaker 1: businesses for some time, and then you have those who
- 41:14Speaker 1: are just beginning, and it's a great place to network
- 41:18Speaker 1: and meet people, but also to get information that can
- 41:21Speaker 1: help your business. Well, I know your voice is being
- 41:24Speaker 1: heard because you are a real power player on LinkedIn
- 41:27Speaker 1: and LinkedIn. If you're not familiar with that, that is
- 41:30Speaker 1: an entrepreneurship where people are seeking opportunities employment. They put
- 41:34Speaker 1: the resume. It's not where you you show you your
- 41:37Speaker 1: side profile and you're behind You don't do that on LinkedIn.
- 41:40Speaker 1: You know that ain't on linked on LinkedIn you and
- 41:43Speaker 1: that lets me know that that that there's strong validation
- 41:46Speaker 1: to your brand in the entrepreneur world because you're such
- 41:49Speaker 1: a power player on LinkedIn. Yeah. Yeah, you gotta use
- 41:54Speaker 1: all your social media and especially when there's a business

- 42:02Speaker 1: you know, reach out and get connected with like minded individuals. Well,
- 42:06Speaker 1: my friend, you know you're doing so much in the community.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I'm happy to announce the world that I'm part of

- 46:00Speaker 1: I'm just gonna let y'all know that Jeff Heck used
- 46:03Speaker 1: to see you on Monday night brewing. We're talking about beers, y'all.
- 46:07Speaker 1: We they brew beers for weeknights, balance flavor for ales
- 46:11Speaker 1: that pair well with food. Um. Interesting, We're gonna have
- 46:15Speaker 1: an interesting completely or not. Uh. The idea for Monday
- 46:18Speaker 1: night brewing grew out of a small Atlanta Bible study.
- 46:23Speaker 1: We started brewing beer together on Monday nights as a
- 46:25Speaker 1: way to get to know each other. You go to
- 46:27Speaker 1: the website. They got written right there on the website.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I'm telling you the truth. As they started building this
- 46:32Speaker 1: up and started building their brand. Monday Night Brewing Craft Brewery.
- 46:35Speaker 1: The CEO CEO in my studio right now on Monday
- 46:39Speaker 1: Night brewing, Jeff Head, please work on Monday night. My
- 46:42Speaker 1: money making conversations like maybe I've had a couple to
- 46:45Speaker 1: too many beers. It's it's a joint and privilege to
- 46:48Speaker 1: be here. Get this straight. Please walcome the money making conversations. Heck,
- 46:53Speaker 1: same times the time. Absolutely, it's pleasure to be here.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Can't wait now. No, I'm from Houston, Texas, and I
- 46:59Speaker 1: know in Houston, Texas, craft brewing is huge. Is like
- 47:04Speaker 1: it's like it's a niche market. And sometimes if you
- 47:06Speaker 1: enter this business, you know, everybody sees the big commercials
- 47:10Speaker 1: on TV. You hear the bids, they hear the millers,
- 47:12Speaker 1: they hear all that. You know, Corona, the little feet
- 47:15Speaker 1: down there on the beach. You see those big commercials.
- 47:18Speaker 1: But if you really go on the store, you can
- 47:20Speaker 1: be mind blown at the options that you have seen.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Many options. There's so many options, and it's blown up
- 47:25Speaker 1: in the last probably fifteen or twenty years. Years ago, uh,
- 47:30Speaker 1: there were just a handful of options, and they were
- 47:32Speaker 1: a handful of big craft berries that had been around
- 47:34Speaker 1: for a while who really set the stage for what
- 47:36Speaker 1: has been an explosion over the last ten years. Even
- 47:39Speaker 1: in the state of Georgia where we're based, the number
- 47:42Speaker 1: of crafferies has tripled just in the last five years,
- 47:44Speaker 1: and that's pretty representative, you know. I think it's a
- 47:47Speaker 1: couple of things. First, it's just a broader trend in
- 47:49Speaker 1: food and beverage of local and craft and so people
- 47:52Speaker 1: want something that feels authentic, that they can connect to,
- 47:55Speaker 1: that feels connected to their community, into their uh, to
- 47:57Speaker 1: their kind of their people in their neighborhood, and so
- 48:00Speaker 1: that I think is a big part of it. Secondly,
- 48:02Speaker 1: there's just people are getting better at brewing. They're making
- 48:04Speaker 1: really really good beers innovating. America in the United States
- 48:07Speaker 1: is really the center of innovation for beer right now.
- 48:10Speaker 1: And for a long time it was belgiumant was Europe,
- 48:13Speaker 1: it was always around the world. And what what what
- 48:16Speaker 1: we Americans have done with craft beers? Throw all the
- 48:18Speaker 1: rules out the window and just be creative with with
- 48:21Speaker 1: all kinds of different different parts of the brewing process.
- 48:24Speaker 1: So so let me let's talk because you you're only
- 48:26Speaker 1: here for two breaks. So part of the show's education,
- 48:29Speaker 1: part of it is building communicating about your brand. Now
- 48:33Speaker 1: is it technology? Is the reason that so many individual
- 48:37Speaker 1: beers are being created and being sample is the technology? Now?
- 48:41Speaker 1: Is is the same system? It's it's beer is beer
- 48:45Speaker 1: is basically the same process that has been since monks
- 48:47Speaker 1: walked out with big vats of barley water in the
- 48:50Speaker 1: middle of the forest and let wild yeast from the
- 48:53Speaker 1: air come in and turn that sugar water into alcohol
- 48:56Speaker 1: and carbon dioxide. Not much has really changed. Now we're
- 48:58Speaker 1: better at making sure it's we know what we're doing
- 49:00Speaker 1: and and and processes are consistent. But it's basically the same.
- 49:04Speaker 1: It's really been driven by consumers and by innovators, by
- 49:07Speaker 1: people who have done really creative, interesting things and make
- 49:09Speaker 1: beer that just tastes really good. I'm a start with
- 49:11Speaker 1: the basic question what makes a good beer? That is
- 49:14Speaker 1: all in the eye of the beholder, my friend. It's
- 49:16Speaker 1: like where you look at the shilf. If you see
- 49:19Speaker 1: so many options, so you know. That's absolutely and the
- 49:22Speaker 1: great thing about craft beers. We always like to say,
- 49:24Speaker 1: even within our our bery, when you come to our brewery,
- 49:27Speaker 1: you will find anywhere between fifteen and twenty different beers
- 49:30Speaker 1: on tap. We always like to say. At our brewery, yep,
- 49:33Speaker 1: we have two facilities to brewis and both of them
- 49:35Speaker 1: you can find fifteen to twenty beers. It's on tap.
- 49:37Speaker 1: And we always tell people we will find a beer
- 49:39Speaker 1: you like you just we we all it's always our challenge. Okay,
- 49:42Speaker 1: I'm not I'm kind of confused now, Okay, you just
- 49:46Speaker 1: small time right. Oh, you know, we're we're dropping the
- 49:53Speaker 1: drop of a boat relative to them. We will make
- 49:57Speaker 1: over a hundred different beers this this year, so now
- 50:00Speaker 1: we have a handful of them that that are the
- 50:02Speaker 1: vast majority of our sales. So about six beers for
- 50:04Speaker 1: us make up about seven percent of our total sales.
- 50:07Speaker 1: And then we have a lot of fun with the
- 50:09Speaker 1: other stuff because that's our pipeline that gives people a
- 50:11Speaker 1: reason to come and visit our brewery. Um, and it
- 50:14Speaker 1: gives us new ideas and research and development. For this
- 50:18Speaker 1: is the fun conversation because I think everybody who's listening
- 50:21Speaker 1: to this call is going to be educated. And if
- 50:23Speaker 1: you don't drink beer, I don't drink beer, So not
- 50:26Speaker 1: because I don't like to, I just don't drink it,
- 50:28Speaker 1: you know, So nothing negative. I just want to put
- 50:30Speaker 1: that out there now, the fact that you say that,
- 50:35Speaker 1: do you have you try to create engagement. I always
- 50:38Speaker 1: felt like beer is like a love affair. You know,
- 50:41Speaker 1: people you know, you know, you know you'll see a
- 50:44Speaker 1: female at the game swigging a beer. You know they're
- 50:46Speaker 1: going to ball, you know. If it feels like that's
- 50:48Speaker 1: a very conference zone for people to interact with. Absolutely,
- 50:53Speaker 1: And that's the reason we started the company because we
- 50:56Speaker 1: felt like beer is a leveler. It takes it takes
- 50:59Speaker 1: walls down betwe people. And so we actually have a
- 51:01Speaker 1: purpose statement that we uh that we talk about at
- 51:04Speaker 1: every meeting we do internally, every meeting I have with
- 51:06Speaker 1: the wholesaler with an account and our purpose statement is
- 51:09Speaker 1: that we exist to deep in human relationships over some
- 51:11Speaker 1: of the best beer in the country. So it starts
- 51:13Speaker 1: with relationships. We want to be a place where people
- 51:16Speaker 1: deep in relationships with each other, and so that's played
- 51:18Speaker 1: out in really small ways in our business. But we
- 51:20Speaker 1: think are really significant. So for example, when you come
- 51:22Speaker 1: to our tap room, uh, you won't find you'll find
- 51:25Speaker 1: some little tables of four or five tiana seat tables,
- 51:27Speaker 1: but you also find big, long picnic benches because we
- 51:30Speaker 1: wanted to force strangers to sit down next to each
- 51:32Speaker 1: other and have a conversation and get to know each other.
- 51:34Speaker 1: And beer is this this thing. If you're a CEO
- 51:37Speaker 1: or you're you know, a dock worker, or you're a
- 51:40Speaker 1: waiter or you're you know, the manager of a restaurant,
- 51:43Speaker 1: it doesn't matter when you sit down with that beer.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Every hand there's something or you're you're, you're, you're, you're
- 51:47Speaker 1: just human beings. And we love that. My dad was
- 51:49Speaker 1: a beer drink. He had he drunk the legendary perhaps
- 51:51Speaker 1: Blue Ribbons Award winning award winning My dad, boy, he's
- 51:57Speaker 1: drunk it us a paps Blue Ribbons to day right now.
- 51:59Speaker 1: So I'd know about some beer drinking, but I cut
- 52:01Speaker 1: you off earlier. He was telling me about beer is
- 52:04Speaker 1: in the eyes of the beholder. What makes a good beer? Yeah, yeah,
- 52:09Speaker 1: so there's some there's some basic principles of of making
- 52:11Speaker 1: a good beer. So there are there are certain uh,
- 52:14Speaker 1: there's I think balance is a is a big one. Um,
- 52:17Speaker 1: you know you want to you want a beer that's
- 52:18Speaker 1: gonna gonna have a little bit of sweet, a little
- 52:21Speaker 1: bit of bitter. You there's all kinds of but there's
- 52:27Speaker 1: you almost made me, won't make me want to sell? Hey, balance,
- 52:32Speaker 1: I'm telling you, I'm telling you. You get just just
- 52:35Speaker 1: that one little drop on your tongue, and uh, it's glorious.
- 52:38Speaker 1: It's glorious. And then the best part is after you
- 52:40Speaker 1: have one or two, then you get down a conversation,
- 52:42Speaker 1: you get talking about real life. That's where the fun
- 52:45Speaker 1: really starts. Yeah. Now, now, now you know you have
- 52:47Speaker 1: these you have tap and then you have this like
- 52:49Speaker 1: some beer foam up and all that good stuff. What
- 52:52Speaker 1: does all this? What? What does this? It's kind of
- 52:54Speaker 1: like a world. Did you guys have That's what I'm
- 52:56Speaker 1: just enamored with this whole conversation, because beer is like
- 53:00Speaker 1: a world. You know, It's like you know, it's you know,
- 53:03Speaker 1: you you have the big Viking. Look you know that
- 53:06Speaker 1: big moub did you find them? And then you have
- 53:08Speaker 1: this young lady with this nice beer. Did she SIPs all?
- 53:12Speaker 1: That's a that's a range. Yeah. Well, and the reality
- 53:15Speaker 1: is you get you come to our So we have
- 53:17Speaker 1: a tap rim down in southwest Atlanta. Uh we call
- 53:19Speaker 1: it the garage. And in the garage, So in the garage,
- 53:23Speaker 1: but you'll find is people from all kinds of different
- 53:26Speaker 1: walks of life. So and you'll find, uh, you know,
- 53:28Speaker 1: you'll find the mom with their with their baby and
- 53:30Speaker 1: a little baby carrier, drinking a you know, drinking a
- 53:33Speaker 1: you know, a nice strong impression imperial stout and uh,
- 53:38Speaker 1: and you'll find uh, you know, you find another group
- 53:41Speaker 1: of you know, younger folks hanging out and drinking some
- 53:44Speaker 1: sour fruited beers. So there's just all things for everybody,
- 53:47Speaker 1: for everybody. And we're always surprised that the things that
- 53:50Speaker 1: people don't let that, those stereotypes, they blew up pretty
- 53:52Speaker 1: quick once you actually get people exposed to different kinds
- 53:55Speaker 1: of things. They just don't know what they want. You
- 53:56Speaker 1: mentioned them earlier. You started a business with friends. Yes, okay,
- 54:00Speaker 1: that could be good. That could be because one day
- 54:02Speaker 1: you got to talk to your friends a little bit different.
- 54:05Speaker 1: How does that balance work for you? We have been
- 54:08Speaker 1: just so blessed in this because I think I say
- 54:11Speaker 1: this about marriage too. I totally understand why marriage can
- 54:15Speaker 1: be really hard, and I totally understand why business partners
- 54:18Speaker 1: can be really hard. I'm really fortunate that is actually
- 54:21Speaker 1: a huge asset for me, both my marriage and my
- 54:23Speaker 1: business partners. So the biggest thing we did is we
- 54:26Speaker 1: learned to be really open and honest with each other
- 54:29Speaker 1: from very early on, and to fight clean. So we
- 54:32Speaker 1: fight about things, we argue about things, but we do
- 54:34Speaker 1: it in ways that don't attack each other. UM. We
- 54:36Speaker 1: really try to stay open minded about UM where our idea,
- 54:39Speaker 1: whether that our idea might not be the best one,
- 54:42Speaker 1: and we trust each other a lot. So the three
- 54:43Speaker 1: of us have very different backgrounds professionally. Jonathan is a
- 54:46Speaker 1: marketing guy, Joel's really got an operations mind, and I'm
- 54:49Speaker 1: more of a finance and strategy guy. And so and
- 54:54Speaker 1: I love I love building culture. I love building culture.
- 54:56Speaker 1: I've got a lot, a lot to learn about it,
- 54:58Speaker 1: but but but I love it. And So one of
- 55:00Speaker 1: the things we've learned too is to defer to each
- 55:01Speaker 1: other in our areas of expertise UM, while not being
- 55:04Speaker 1: afraid to speak our mind UM. So communication communication, communication
- 55:08Speaker 1: UM and humility UH and acknowledging what you're good at
- 55:11Speaker 1: and acknowledging what you're not UM has been incredibly helpful.
- 55:13Speaker 1: And I'd say we're better friends now than we were
- 55:15Speaker 1: when we met each other fifteen years. The business is
- 55:19Speaker 1: about seven years old. We are celebrating our seventh anniversary
- 55:22Speaker 1: UM in UH in just a few weeks, the August fourth,
- 55:26Speaker 1: the weekend of the fourth and fifth. Absolutely absolutely right
- 55:30Speaker 1: down at the garage award. Let you know what, I'll
- 55:34Speaker 1: bring you some alerts. Okay, and I might maybe maybe
- 55:37Speaker 1: how about you could use some of the beer as
- 55:38Speaker 1: an ingredient in one of your we can get I
- 55:44Speaker 1: I I used to win chili cook offs in college.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Oh Chilian beer is there? You go? I used beer.
- 55:50Speaker 1: I should a little small bill of life Beers. That's
- 55:53Speaker 1: never use water in my beer in brisket. So so
- 55:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna come get some of your beer. I would
- 55:57Speaker 1: make some of my award when we get pull you over.
- 56:02Speaker 1: You know something I've lied I have. You've had beer,
- 56:08Speaker 1: but the record show show The Man has beer. You've
- 56:12Speaker 1: been drinking long It's just the coup of my show
- 56:18Speaker 1: and and waked me up. You've been drinking beer for
- 56:22Speaker 1: a long time, my man. I want to thank you
- 56:24Speaker 1: for coming on this. It's been a joy. It's been
- 56:25Speaker 1: fun to tell us about your two locations. Two locations, uh,
- 56:30Speaker 1: the Trabord Avenue location in the west in West Midtown
- 56:32Speaker 1: and the garage down in Southwest Atlanta in the West End.
- 56:35Speaker 1: UM both open seven days a week, seven days a week,
- 56:38Speaker 1: and you can go in there. You can sample, but
- 56:40Speaker 1: then samples some beers, take home your favorites. UM, meet
- 56:43Speaker 1: some new friends and get a little tour and get married. Absolutely,
- 56:48Speaker 1: my man, I want to thank you you great. All right,
- 56:51Speaker 1: August August, first weekend in August. I will be there.
