- 2:53Speaker 1: alerts a string around your finger. They're just not big enough.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So here's a big reminder from the California Law three
- 3:00Speaker 1: Tomorrow's making millions jack parties the WI three million play out,
- 3:03Speaker 1: Please play responsible. It must be eighteen years older to
- 3:05Speaker 1: purchase play of plian that has done so many rememberable characters.
- 3:11Speaker 1: So I'm not gonna say this. Remember, especially when we
- 3:13Speaker 1: go back to cool the guy that's like the classic, classic,
- 3:15Speaker 1: classic black movie in the era when Black Exports Station
- 3:20Speaker 1: was dominating the movie screens back then, can you summon
- 3:23Speaker 1: to your career before we really get into it, because
- 3:25Speaker 1: I really want people, you know, we have to say
- 3:28Speaker 1: you are a legend. You are a person that inspired
- 3:31Speaker 1: your inspiration. Um, you're a uh you have a guy
- 3:35Speaker 1: who's sat down and say I can make a career
- 3:37Speaker 1: out of this, and you have made a career out
- 3:39Speaker 1: of it. Tell us about your your your your take
- 3:42Speaker 1: on your career and we know it's not done. First
- 3:44Speaker 1: of all, it's not an obituary. So but it is
- 3:48Speaker 1: an amazing journey. It is an amazing journey. Well, I'll
- 3:52Speaker 1: tell you, first of all, thank you for all the
- 3:55Speaker 1: kind words, uh that you used to describe me. And
- 4:00Speaker 1: uh the second thing is that all of the listening
- 4:04Speaker 1: to you, uh point out those those things uh made
- 4:10Speaker 1: me stay to myself. I never thought or tried to
- 4:13Speaker 1: achieve any of those accoladies that you just heaped upon me.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I was I'm just a young kid from Holland, New
- 4:23Speaker 1: York who had an opportunity to to do something and
- 4:28Speaker 1: be a part of something that was extraordinary. It's not
- 4:30Speaker 1: that I went seeking seeking it. It sort of found me.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And uh, you know, I was blessed to have people
- 4:38Speaker 1: around me who continued to nourish me once they saw
- 4:42Speaker 1: that I had a talent. Um. I kind of took
- 4:46Speaker 1: things for granted, you know, as most young people will
- 4:49Speaker 1: so so uh you know, mentors kept me on the
- 4:53Speaker 1: path and uh, you know, from from people in in
- 4:58Speaker 1: high school, which is what I went with the high
- 5:00Speaker 1: school performing arts. You remember the movie Fame that was yeah,
- 5:05Speaker 1: that's that was Actually the year that they're talking about
- 5:09Speaker 1: in that movie is the year that uh my graduating year.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And uh so I knew a lot of the characters.
- 5:17Speaker 1: And there was a wonderful teacher there by the name
- 5:19Speaker 1: of Vannette Carroll who uh kept me in school and
- 5:25Speaker 1: and focused and uh and guided me and eventually brought
- 5:30Speaker 1: me to California. Van Neck Carroll did to form in
- 5:34Speaker 1: a play here and here's where I stayed. But to
- 5:39Speaker 1: your point, my career has has been really kind of,
- 5:46Speaker 1: uh just a blessing, you know, because so much has
- 5:49Speaker 1: happened that I never would have thought would have happened.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I just looked at myself as a as a blue
- 5:54Speaker 1: collar actor. You know, I just get my lunch bucket,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I get my lunch bucket, I get a call to
- 5:59Speaker 1: go to work, I go to work, I do my
- 6:01Speaker 1: job or come home, you know, right, that kind of thing,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. But the on the accolades
- 6:08Speaker 1: and other things that come with it were like, wow,
- 6:11Speaker 1: this comes with with doing what you love, you know.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Uh so, and I think that's probably the main ingredient,
- 6:18Speaker 1: is that I love doing what I'm doing. I still do. Well,
- 6:21Speaker 1: that's that's the impression I've always gotten, you know from
- 6:24Speaker 1: every project I've seen. One of my favorites was the
- 6:27Speaker 1: House of Lies and uh, you know when you played
- 6:30Speaker 1: the sexy grandfather, your father and you know with the
- 6:34Speaker 1: young with the young lady. I'm feeling you on that
- 6:38Speaker 1: role with Lies with cheat and laz lareens his character
- 6:44Speaker 1: man maybe man so many times. Yeah, that was those
- 6:53Speaker 1: the French benefits of this, you know, getting the work
- 6:56Speaker 1: of opposite beautiful to young ladies like like that, and
- 7:00Speaker 1: uh have a great time with friends, you know, Lawrence Tate,
- 7:04Speaker 1: you know, and I go way back to uh go
- 7:08Speaker 1: back to inkwell absolutely though you know that that that
- 7:12Speaker 1: was really interesting when I when I when I talk
- 7:14Speaker 1: about this, you know, you're you know, I always always
- 7:17Speaker 1: looked at it. I can't I did stand up comment
- 7:19Speaker 1: and I'm an excellent writer. Man is great talent and
- 7:23Speaker 1: can do it well, thank you, thank you. But but
- 7:27Speaker 1: when I when I when I look at that talent
- 7:28Speaker 1: like you let's just let's talk about You know, I
- 7:31Speaker 1: was joking, because I really did. Whenever I see you,
- 7:34Speaker 1: you you make me smile, Glenn, And that's that's something,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you know, when I see you make me smile. You know,
- 7:40Speaker 1: when I watched the movie Justine, which is running right
- 7:42Speaker 1: now on Netflix, you make me smile with your character
- 7:45Speaker 1: when you when you when you want to meet with
- 7:47Speaker 1: the with the therapists, and then you closed the door,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and it was like, is he acting? You know, he's
- 7:53Speaker 1: just being normal, because this looks pretty normal to me
- 7:58Speaker 1: what he's doing. And and when you get when you
- 8:01Speaker 1: get that good, and when you get that good, it
- 8:03Speaker 1: seems like these motions are just everyday life motions that
- 8:07Speaker 1: it should your function in life. And so that's what
- 8:10Speaker 1: happened when I when I when I loved you in
- 8:12Speaker 1: the Wire, which was not good, such a such a fascinating,
- 8:20Speaker 1: uh cultural story, and he was right there playing a
- 8:24Speaker 1: realistic character that I've had sympathy for that I may
- 8:30Speaker 1: be mad sometimes, but but but isn't that the role
- 8:34Speaker 1: of an actor to protrude to to pull these emotions
- 8:37Speaker 1: out of an audience. Yes, it is. That's that's our job,
- 8:41Speaker 1: you know, That's that's what We're supposed to be able
- 8:44Speaker 1: to hold up a mirror so that you can see
- 8:46Speaker 1: yourself as well as others that you know in the
- 8:49Speaker 1: characters that we play, you know. And uh so that's
- 8:52Speaker 1: that's what we get paid to do. And that's a
- 8:54Speaker 1: that's a wonderful thing. And then, like I said, I
- 8:57Speaker 1: wanted to go back to the House of Lives because
- 9:00Speaker 1: when you're around talented people, it kind of does. It
- 9:03Speaker 1: doesn't force you or cause you to step your game up,
- 9:06Speaker 1: and not saying that you never you don't step up
- 9:08Speaker 1: your game. You know what I'm saying. I'm away, don't
- 9:11Speaker 1: want to sup, but you're all, don't you And I'll
- 9:14Speaker 1: tell some man it was some times. It was some times, man,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I'm that Linz a character livers take character. I was
- 9:20Speaker 1: so mad and you when you take up for him?
- 9:25Speaker 1: He said, serious, Lorenz is just sitting over there watching
- 9:28Speaker 1: TV all day. Don't watch you the characters out there
- 9:32Speaker 1: compete with these white people. And then the dad coming
- 9:37Speaker 1: out saw saying up with the young Philly in the bedroom.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Uh uh you know, coming now your brother trying he
- 9:47Speaker 1: trying it didn't try try, but the way it is
- 9:59Speaker 1: your father, Okay, I can't tell you, my mama, baby,
- 10:08Speaker 1: you gotta cut the cars. Don't you give one of
- 10:09Speaker 1: the cars to your sister? Huh yeah, okay, just because
- 10:14Speaker 1: I had a couple of they all used Now they
- 10:16Speaker 1: used cars. Now your boy wasn't balling at the time,
- 10:19Speaker 1: all right, but they were my car. My mama comes
- 10:21Speaker 1: out with me, well, you got two cars, don't you
- 10:23Speaker 1: get one to your sister? Okay, you needed you need
- 10:29Speaker 1: a car. So I can find that moment relatable because
- 10:32Speaker 1: it didn't make any sense to me. And guess what
- 10:34Speaker 1: she did. She wrecked it. It was it was a
- 10:43Speaker 1: Natty he sent it too, green and grimbling with no radio.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Still hurt, but it's still still her because I can
- 10:53Speaker 1: tell you it's green. I can tell you it's no radio,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and I can tell you it was Naty sending too.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I paid nine of your dollars for that cat. Oh god,
- 11:04Speaker 1: my sister went out there. Directed I come home to
- 11:08Speaker 1: see on the sofa, the sofa next to my mom. Babe.
- 11:12Speaker 1: You know your mama going to say with you, baby,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I got something I want to tell you. We'll tell you, right.
- 11:18Speaker 1: And so when I was going through that, when I
- 11:20Speaker 1: was looking, when I whenever I saw you interact between
- 11:22Speaker 1: them two. I just thought back to my mom. I said, flash,
- 11:26Speaker 1: if I didn't heard this character in real life is
- 11:30Speaker 1: making it making a story work for somebody who's trifling.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Trifling a great right. But that's that's that's that's that's
- 11:39Speaker 1: uh the pleasure of working with people who are good
- 11:42Speaker 1: at the job. We have great writers on that show,
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know, and you know you have to step your
- 11:48Speaker 1: game up. You're working with Don Cheeta. You gotta step
- 11:50Speaker 1: your game and game everything go down. As a beast,
- 11:53Speaker 1: he's a beast, especially Monday, he's the beast. He's a
- 11:58Speaker 1: beast as well as as well as stage. But the
- 12:01Speaker 1: people the thing that's wonderful, uh with that, I loved
- 12:05Speaker 1: it that I've been able to work with wonderful, wonderful people.
- 12:09Speaker 1: You know. I started working within the business working with
- 12:11Speaker 1: the top of the line with Sydney Portier Ruby d
- 12:14Speaker 1: Lucas you know Erision production of A Raising the Sun
- 12:19Speaker 1: on Broadway. So that's where I started. So you know,
- 12:23Speaker 1: I'm always uh looking to work with the best that
- 12:27Speaker 1: I can work with, you know, because they bring the
- 12:29Speaker 1: best out of you. You know. The cast of the
- 12:33Speaker 1: Wire was fantastic, was amazing. Everybody in that cast was
- 12:36Speaker 1: just you know, it's always amazing that you know, we
- 12:41Speaker 1: all know that. If you don't know this, it was Elba.
- 12:44Speaker 1: He came from the line. He made He made a
- 12:47Speaker 1: drug dealer likable, He made a drug dealer popular, He
- 12:53Speaker 1: made a drug dealer who who When he died, we
- 12:57Speaker 1: was made. Yeah up, come on, get up, get up, man.
- 13:03Speaker 1: My wife screamed so loud. I don't know. I love
- 13:11Speaker 1: talking to him, man, it's like talking to my uncle,
- 13:13Speaker 1: oh jail either if we just laughing and talking to
- 13:15Speaker 1: just sharing stories because because he here's a deal with
- 13:20Speaker 1: because you know, he got shot on and that high
- 13:23Speaker 1: rise right there was under construction, and so so when
- 13:26Speaker 1: he got shot, I'm talking about interest cap. You know
- 13:29Speaker 1: when you got shot Stringer Bell I don't remember name.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Stringer Bell was his character. Stringer Bell I kept saying,
- 13:36Speaker 1: he gotta get up. No, nobody was ready. America was
- 13:43Speaker 1: not ready for him to be dead because because in
- 13:47Speaker 1: the way the character was built. Okay, you know, he
- 13:51Speaker 1: was a drug dealer, but he wanted to be more.
- 13:54Speaker 1: You know, he educated himself, you know, and and that's
- 13:58Speaker 1: where that's when I when when when you talk about
- 14:01Speaker 1: not only here. There's just a lot of fantastic people
- 14:03Speaker 1: who are working busily working today off of that series.
- 14:09Speaker 1: That's the amazing thing about that series. But I wanted
- 14:12Speaker 1: to I wasn't to step back a little bit here,
- 14:14Speaker 1: Glenn and get into it. Yeah where were you born?
- 14:18Speaker 1: Glenn Boring? Boring and married in Manhattan? In Manhattan. I'm
- 14:26Speaker 1: trying to get to this, uh, this rodeo cowboy thing,
- 14:29Speaker 1: because he told me about that, Jay said, you know
- 14:33Speaker 1: he does he has a rodeo. I'm with the Bill
- 14:35Speaker 1: pick A rodeo. Luther Side, who was the founder of
- 14:38Speaker 1: the Bill Picking Rodeo, asked me and to be a
- 14:41Speaker 1: part of it. Uh that many years ago. And I
- 14:44Speaker 1: found a home there and that's a family and been
- 14:47Speaker 1: there for ever since. Okay, just stop him say I
- 14:51Speaker 1: love when people like you start talking because you miss
- 14:53Speaker 1: all of them steps. You know, Hallan Bar, Hallan Ball.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Now he's in Los Angeles here, rodeo king. Okay, how
- 15:01Speaker 1: do we get to the horses though? See what you're
- 15:04Speaker 1: gonna do to me? Subways, busses, cabs, move to Hollywood,
- 15:09Speaker 1: you know, matches and limos and cards. You're on the horse.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Please please fill it up in this next break, because
- 15:16Speaker 1: we're gonna a lot to talk about in the next break.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Please help me out with this break. Okay, I just
- 15:24Speaker 1: was Shan McDonald. You're listening to money making conversations. I'm
- 15:27Speaker 1: having fun with Glenn. Say it's Lord that make sure
- 15:33Speaker 1: he don't do me. You know you already talking. You
- 15:35Speaker 1: always question my education, you know, because a lot of
- 15:37Speaker 1: people put that ah in there. But we're all good,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you know, Cooley High Uh, the wire house of lies.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I'm just you know, I'm gonna stop because I'm insulting
- 15:48Speaker 1: you because of your body of work. It's been over
- 15:52Speaker 1: fifty years now. Before we left, I was riding you
- 15:56Speaker 1: about this whole horse stage, this old cowboyd thing, and
- 15:59Speaker 1: then you gonna throw out See you threw out the
- 16:01Speaker 1: bill pick it thirty six years thirty six because see
- 16:05Speaker 1: that never asked me to be the Grand Marshal Ambassador
- 16:08Speaker 1: any ROADEO. So that means that you have to have
- 16:11Speaker 1: had a skill set, a showcase, a moment on a horse,
- 16:16Speaker 1: a rope or something. So tell us how did you
- 16:18Speaker 1: develop that skill and how did you get into horses?
- 16:21Speaker 1: And then we're gonna get over to the camp getting up. Okay, Well,
- 16:25Speaker 1: you know, first of all, the true answer is it's
- 16:29Speaker 1: in my blood. That's the true asswa. The true answer
- 16:34Speaker 1: is it's in my blood. But like it's in so
- 16:36Speaker 1: many of us, of of of people of colors blood.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You know, we don't associate ourselves with that kind of lifestyle,
- 16:43Speaker 1: but you know, we were. We came over from Africa,
- 16:47Speaker 1: where you know, there were great horsemen there and here
- 16:52Speaker 1: my grand grand my grandfather whom I didn't even know.
- 16:56Speaker 1: On my father's side, I didn't I never met him.
- 16:59Speaker 1: He was dead for I was born. Uh. He was
- 17:04Speaker 1: a farmer and had horses and mules and all that.
- 17:07Speaker 1: So my daddy grew up raised, you know, raised around
- 17:10Speaker 1: that kind of life. And my daddy moved from from
- 17:14Speaker 1: Georgia to Chicago and New York to get away from
- 17:20Speaker 1: that lifestyle. It's finally here the season of celebration. And
- 17:25Speaker 1: no matter how you celebrate with family and friends, whether

- 19:20Speaker 1: so many of us, you know, especially back in the day,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I wasn't raised as a young man with my father around,
- 19:28Speaker 1: you know. So I went in this direction on my
- 19:32Speaker 1: own of buying horses or riding horses and getting into
- 19:37Speaker 1: land and buying land. And once I got the California,
- 19:40Speaker 1: coming from a small, small, three bedroom, a one bedroom
- 19:45Speaker 1: apartment in New York City, uh to uh ranch in
- 19:50Speaker 1: Los Angeles, California. Thank God for the blessing. UH. But
- 19:55Speaker 1: I didn't know where that love of the land and
- 19:58Speaker 1: the Earth's came from where, But I was. I was
- 20:02Speaker 1: drawn to it. I was always drawn to it, even
- 20:04Speaker 1: when I was living in the New York I spent
- 20:07Speaker 1: a lot of time in Central Park. I go to
- 20:08Speaker 1: Central Park and clean the stalls at the horse stable
- 20:12Speaker 1: in Central Park in order to ride the horse for free.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Let me, mister, if you let me clean that stall. Uh,
- 20:18Speaker 1: I'll clean that stall if you let me ride your horse.
- 20:20Speaker 1: And I'd shovel horse. And he said, go ahead, do that.
- 20:25Speaker 1: You know. That's how badly I wanted to do that.
- 20:28Speaker 1: And once I got to California and then started, you know,
- 20:31Speaker 1: in the business, and the business was kind to me
- 20:34Speaker 1: enough to to to to put some ducets in my
- 20:37Speaker 1: pocket that I could do something with in terms of
- 20:40Speaker 1: fulfilling some dreams. That became a part of one of
- 20:43Speaker 1: the dreams I wanted to fulfill, you know. And so
- 20:48Speaker 1: then I little did I know that that desire was
- 20:51Speaker 1: in my DNA. You see what I'm saying. So that's
- 20:57Speaker 1: the true answer, you know, that's the real answer. Well,
- 21:00Speaker 1: that's that's the real actus. That's an honest ass. That's
- 21:02Speaker 1: the gift. That's the passion that I would always tell
- 21:04Speaker 1: people who come on the show, people who are listening
- 21:06Speaker 1: to the show, is that we deny yourself a lot
- 21:09Speaker 1: of dreams and a lot of great moments because we go, Uh,
- 21:12Speaker 1: that ain't me or what will people think about if
- 21:14Speaker 1: I started doing that? And and that's why, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: you know, I joke and I'd laugh about but the
- 21:21Speaker 1: whole rodeo thing. But man, I'm in awe that you
- 21:25Speaker 1: know that you're doing that and in the world where
- 21:28Speaker 1: can be so superficial? And then not only that, but
- 21:32Speaker 1: you tell us about your camp gette up because I'm
- 21:35Speaker 1: sure it's tied to the horse environment, the rodeo lifestyle,
- 21:39Speaker 1: the outdoor lifestyle the young people need to be familiar with.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Because my daughter, she's twenty two, she's not gonna go
- 21:44Speaker 1: anywhere without her phone and she she walks to YouTube.
- 21:48Speaker 1: She got screen on the wall. She's looking at her phone.
- 21:51Speaker 1: So that doesn't need anything. So tell us about that experience.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And what's what is the purpose of camp gette Up. Well,
- 21:58Speaker 1: it's one of the things growing up in New York
- 22:02Speaker 1: and being from home and uh, you know, there's a
- 22:06Speaker 1: lot of distractions back in the back in the in
- 22:09Speaker 1: the city, and uh, I was no different than any
- 22:12Speaker 1: other young teenager ready to get him getting into some
- 22:16Speaker 1: of that mess that was going on, you know, and
- 22:19Speaker 1: my mother and an attempt to my mother, in an
- 22:21Speaker 1: attempt to steer me away from the wrong elements, sent
- 22:25Speaker 1: my butt to camp one summer, sent me kicking and screaming.
- 22:29Speaker 1: You know, I didn't want to go because I knew
- 22:30Speaker 1: that that's that's summer. I had big plans to get
- 22:35Speaker 1: my first jade. They used to call that. You used
- 22:37Speaker 1: to get three juvel jdcus juven out the link with
- 22:40Speaker 1: cards back in the day. You know, if you got
- 22:43Speaker 1: if you got your third juven out of link with card,
- 22:45Speaker 1: then you they were gonna send you to the reformatory. Absolutely.
- 22:48Speaker 1: But and so I was working on getting my first
- 22:51Speaker 1: one that summer. I knew I was gonna get that
- 22:53Speaker 1: first time. You just you need to be on the podcast,
- 23:05Speaker 1: and I knew I was gonna get that card. All
- 23:08Speaker 1: of us, me and my boys was working on that car.
- 23:10Speaker 1: A couple of more already had two or threecause but
- 23:14Speaker 1: I knew I was gonna get mine, and my mother
- 23:15Speaker 1: must to do it too, And she sent me to
- 23:17Speaker 1: this thing on camp and I got the camp, got
- 23:20Speaker 1: in the wild outdoors and all that and the camp
- 23:23Speaker 1: fires and all the fun that was having a lake
- 23:26Speaker 1: and the canoeing and all that stuff, and I loved it.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I said, down, God, this is great. I told my mom, boy,
- 23:33Speaker 1: I want to go back next year. She said, well,
- 23:35Speaker 1: you keep you in school, stop playing hooky, get your
- 23:37Speaker 1: grades up in YadA, YadA, YadA, and then I send
- 23:40Speaker 1: you back next year. So the dog going that she
- 23:43Speaker 1: found her hook for me, you know, right right right,
- 23:46Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Beautiful, beautiful shoot, you know,
- 23:52Speaker 1: so I found the reason. I found them ready to
- 23:54Speaker 1: reason to say no to the rest of the stuff
- 23:57Speaker 1: that you know, the guys is getting ready to get into.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Come on, man, let's go do this. You don't how
- 24:01Speaker 1: to go and uh no, man, I can't best this up.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I got a planned I wanted to do well, I
- 24:08Speaker 1: said to myself. Later, I said, well, if that work
- 24:11Speaker 1: for me, that might work for some of these little
- 24:14Speaker 1: knuckle heads out you know, in the street. And I've
- 24:19Speaker 1: been blessed. I've been blessed to to, you know, make
- 24:22Speaker 1: some of my dreams come true. My wife and I
- 24:25Speaker 1: have gotten who was the camper also by uh she
- 24:30Speaker 1: she grew up going to camps out here in California,
- 24:34Speaker 1: so she understood the value of the camp and the outdoors.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And uh so, when I got my piece of land,
- 24:43Speaker 1: and I said, you know. One of the things we
- 24:44Speaker 1: can do with this place is provide a space for
- 24:48Speaker 1: kids to see something different to stars, you know, ride horses,
- 24:52Speaker 1: you know, swimming upon you know, take hikes and so
- 24:55Speaker 1: on and so forth, and do all the stuff that
- 24:56Speaker 1: you do at camp. Just get away for a breather, uh,
- 25:01Speaker 1: get away from the city. And I promised. What happened
- 25:03Speaker 1: was I promised um Coretta Scott King, that that's what
- 25:07Speaker 1: I was going to do with I was started camp
- 25:10Speaker 1: because this was in ninety two and we just had
- 25:12Speaker 1: to Rodney King's civil unrest and Coretta Scott King had
- 25:18Speaker 1: called a lot of the community leaders into UH conference
- 25:24Speaker 1: in Atlanta and asked us what did we think we
- 25:27Speaker 1: could do to help heal the city and some of
- 25:32Speaker 1: the unrest. And that was my contribution, my wife and
- 25:34Speaker 1: I as contribution. I came up with it on the spot.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And uh, my wife said, how are we going to
- 25:40Speaker 1: do this? You know? And I said, I don't know.
- 25:42Speaker 1: But I was doing a different world at the time
- 25:44Speaker 1: of the series, a different world, and so I when
- 25:47Speaker 1: I asked sin Bed and I asked Don Lewis and
- 25:51Speaker 1: Jasmine and cadem I said, hey, y'all chip in some books.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I'm going to try and do something up at the ranch,
- 25:56Speaker 1: and they did and uh we were able to start
- 26:00Speaker 1: started camping. That was seven years. Congratulations. You know that's
- 26:04Speaker 1: a difference maker of what you do. And then people
- 26:08Speaker 1: when you called on your friends and yeah, that's a
- 26:10Speaker 1: hot show, a different world, and you know that story
- 26:13Speaker 1: has never been told on my show, and it needs
- 26:15Speaker 1: to be told. The stories like that need to be
- 26:17Speaker 1: told because all you know, celebrities are sports figures. All
- 26:20Speaker 1: you hear about is the next movie. All you hear
- 26:22Speaker 1: about is the next score, the next touchdown, the next championship.
- 26:26Speaker 1: But it's what you do in the community. Depaying it
- 26:28Speaker 1: forward makes such a big difference. And that's why I
- 26:31Speaker 1: wanted to make sure people understood, you know what you're
- 26:33Speaker 1: doing camp. Thank you. Let me tell you something. You know,
- 26:38Speaker 1: First of all, you know, we've been having a great
- 26:40Speaker 1: time and and and and we're all we're gonna have
- 26:42Speaker 1: a great time because guess what, I'm ana admire of
- 26:44Speaker 1: your talents, I admire your gifts. I'm a person has
- 26:47Speaker 1: been seeing you all far. You know, I met you
- 26:49Speaker 1: several times. It's not I'm not insulted that you don't
- 26:51Speaker 1: remember me. That doesn't bother me. I'm just letting you know.
- 26:54Speaker 1: I have met you, brother. I can point out your house.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I can tell I could drive your offs right now.
- 27:02Speaker 1: That's just that's about. I ain't gonna give no more.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I ain't gonna give no more. But that's because that
- 27:12Speaker 1: was like a little everybody know, because everybody know what
- 27:14Speaker 1: I've been. You know, I'm still I'm still here, people,
- 27:18Speaker 1: I digress. Let's go back to you. Why you really
- 27:20Speaker 1: called the called me over here just having this little
- 27:23Speaker 1: fun conversation, Justine. I saw the movie on Netflix. Uh
- 27:26Speaker 1: you executive producers from just from You know that that
- 27:30Speaker 1: factory called able don a bad bad But I just
- 27:41Speaker 1: saw that Chairs Your Life, board Chair your day. Oh
- 27:44Speaker 1: my god. I don't want to talk about that. Let's
- 27:46Speaker 1: let's talk about Justine. Let's talk about a moving piece.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Because one of the stars of the series was physically disabled,
- 27:56Speaker 1: and did you physically This is why I like that.
- 27:59Speaker 1: This is what my take on him. You had the
- 28:01Speaker 1: lead characters were disabled in different ways. One was emotionally
- 28:05Speaker 1: disabled and then one was physically disabled, and then they
- 28:09Speaker 1: were put together in this series to see how they
- 28:12Speaker 1: will interact and deal with their their their their personal crisis,
- 28:16Speaker 1: their growth, and and then you had you in the middle.
- 28:22Speaker 1: You those two child actors. Fantastic. Oh my god, oh
- 28:28Speaker 1: my goodness, those two child actors. That little boy. Don't
- 28:33Speaker 1: you know when when I be watching, because i've been fortunately,
- 28:38Speaker 1: you're talking about the two kids who played my grandkids. Yes, yes, yeah,
- 28:42Speaker 1: they're they're they're wonderful, as well as the girl who
- 28:45Speaker 1: played the disabled all of the fantastics. But when I
- 28:50Speaker 1: when I watched scripts, I've done enough scripts. I've written scripts.
- 28:53Speaker 1: When I see extra that is being added in a
- 28:57Speaker 1: natural state, I go and these little kids who played
- 29:00Speaker 1: your grandkids, I went, they get it, they understand, they
- 29:05Speaker 1: are fearless and they're natural at it, and so that's
- 29:09Speaker 1: their gift. You know, they might go to a college degree.
- 29:12Speaker 1: But bor, right there, I saw their gifts. They might
- 29:14Speaker 1: become teenagers that I don't want to act anyone. That's
- 29:16Speaker 1: their right. But boy, what I saw in this movie
- 29:19Speaker 1: and you executive produced it, what were you part of
- 29:22Speaker 1: the casting process? To Glenn, No, I must say that
- 29:26Speaker 1: I was not. I was not. That was all Stephanie Turner.
- 29:29Speaker 1: This piece is justin uh was written, directed, produced, and
- 29:37Speaker 1: stars Stephanie Turner who uh is the the daughter of
- 29:45Speaker 1: the football coach for the Redskins, North Turner and RV
- 29:50Speaker 1: Dallas cowboards officers, breed officers and coordinator genius. Yes. Yes,
- 29:56Speaker 1: And she as an actress who was tired of not
- 29:59Speaker 1: getting the roles that she wanted uh you know, and
- 30:03Speaker 1: finding that women were not giving the opportunities and learned
- 30:06Speaker 1: to play the characters and the depths that she thought
- 30:09Speaker 1: should be uh put on the screen. And so she
- 30:13Speaker 1: took it upon herself to put this piece together and
- 30:16Speaker 1: saw me on um as I was doing a spend
- 30:20Speaker 1: on How to Get Away with Murder h series and
- 30:27Speaker 1: she uh called my agents asking if I would be
- 30:31Speaker 1: interested in being part of the scripts. It was a
- 30:34Speaker 1: small independent movie, low budget, and she was hoping that
- 30:39Speaker 1: I would be able to, you know, to see something
- 30:42Speaker 1: in it enough to want me to be a part
- 30:44Speaker 1: of it. And I did as soon as I read it.
- 30:47Speaker 1: You know, it's a wonderful, wonderful story. Like you said that,
- 30:50Speaker 1: you know, the handicapped characters uh uh in their conditions
- 30:57Speaker 1: in so many different ways, and that was really it's
- 31:00Speaker 1: student you to put it like that, and they're want
- 31:03Speaker 1: to put it like that before and I I was,
- 31:06Speaker 1: I was. I was embraced by the movie premise. I
- 31:10Speaker 1: was understood her loss because the fact that you couldn't
- 31:14Speaker 1: understand it, but which is great for the character, because
- 31:17Speaker 1: frustration is led by tell me what's wrong. Sometimes you
- 31:20Speaker 1: can't tell people what's wrong, you know, and like the
- 31:23Speaker 1: like the like the therapist told you, look, leave her alone.
- 31:29Speaker 1: You're trying to you're trying to make something happen, but
- 31:32Speaker 1: let it apple in its natural course. And you know
- 31:36Speaker 1: everybody tries that sometimes people in general, people do that.
- 31:39Speaker 1: That's what leads to frustration. You know. Sometimes I asked
- 31:42Speaker 1: my daughter to come quick, she might not come as
- 31:44Speaker 1: quick as I won't. Then I get frustrated. What's the
- 31:47Speaker 1: problem here? Did you hear it? And it's the same thing.
- 31:51Speaker 1: This movie is about challenging the process, challenging racism, challenging
- 31:56Speaker 1: living it or working in an environment that you really
- 31:59Speaker 1: don't want to be in in but you deal with frustrated.
- 32:02Speaker 1: And then when somebody asked to hear the truth, guess
- 32:04Speaker 1: what it can come out of like a hot fall
- 32:06Speaker 1: of water. And that's what they did. And uh, but
- 32:10Speaker 1: I just like to say, my my my main thing
- 32:12Speaker 1: and bring you on the show. Glenn. First of all
- 32:14Speaker 1: was just to introduce myself to you, tell you I'm
- 32:17Speaker 1: a friend. Secondly, let you know that the impact that
- 32:20Speaker 1: you have and we'll have in this industry is a blessing.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Um this movie, Justine, as soon as they told me
- 32:26Speaker 1: you was for the show, I immediately watched it, enjoyed it,
- 32:30Speaker 1: and I got my wife to watch it. She enjoyed it,
- 32:32Speaker 1: and so absolutely, absolutely, absolutely absolutely you know, you know
- 32:38Speaker 1: because it's your body of work. But like I said,
- 32:40Speaker 1: my favorite scene in that movie was when you when
- 32:44Speaker 1: you when you when when you was with the therapist
- 32:46Speaker 1: and you closed that door. That to me, I mean
- 32:49Speaker 1: this guy, I don't know if he is he acting
- 32:51Speaker 1: now or he just being here set And that's the
- 32:54Speaker 1: beauty of your skill, Glenn. And don't change and ask
- 33:00Speaker 1: you one question. Don't don't forget, don't forget the uh
- 33:05Speaker 1: this this this situation here it shut us down like
- 33:09Speaker 1: it did all of Hollywood. You're talking at the big
- 33:12Speaker 1: movie you No, No, I'm talking about Fargo. Actually absolutely yeah.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Ris Rocke is Chris rock and here doing as center
- 33:21Speaker 1: on farg on great. When do you guys see Chris
- 33:23Speaker 1: and this serious role. It's really really selling that I'm
