- 2:49Speaker 1: It's all about money making Conversations today. R J is
- 2:52Speaker 1: our first call on the line. Let's get started, y'all.
- 2:56Speaker 1: My next guest is from the Small Business Administration. Because
- 2:59Speaker 1: of the devastation the small business affected by Hurricane Harvey
- 3:03Speaker 1: and State of Texas, I felt was important put to
- 3:06Speaker 1: put a face on the people at the s b
- 3:08Speaker 1: A who can help you police work on the money
- 3:10Speaker 1: Making Conversations from the Small Business Administration Office of Disaster assistance.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Mr Richard Jenkins, How you doing, sir? Thank you kind
- 3:22Speaker 1: of low there? Can we can we get closer? Or
- 3:24Speaker 1: did you volume up a little bit there? Awesome? Thank
- 3:28Speaker 1: you Richard? Is it Rick or is it Richard? Because
- 3:31Speaker 1: there's two people either way? Great? Great? Great great great?
- 3:34Speaker 1: Because I was, you know, I would say, I gotta,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I gotta, you know, I want to be respectful to
- 3:37Speaker 1: everybody because your titles say it's Richard, and then when
- 3:40Speaker 1: you get in the bio and just start saying Rick,
- 3:42Speaker 1: and then that's fine, that's awesome. I know. You know,
- 3:46Speaker 1: Harricane Harvey came in, uh did this damage and left
- 3:50Speaker 1: a lot not only just regular people, but the small
- 3:53Speaker 1: business world which just just laid waste to us out there.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And so that's why I felt it was important to
- 3:59Speaker 1: get you guys on the show. I know that you
- 4:00Speaker 1: guys have been trying to get the word out, and
- 4:03Speaker 1: this is another extension of helping you guys get the
- 4:05Speaker 1: word out that you are there for small businesses to
- 4:08Speaker 1: get them back on their feet. Correct. Oh, very much so.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And we really appreciate the opportunity that you're giving us
- 4:14Speaker 1: to get the word out. You know, it's interesting we're
- 4:16Speaker 1: talking about the small businesses because we are the Small
- 4:19Speaker 1: Business Administration, and you're absolutely correct. Uh, we help small businesses.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But you know, in times of disaster, the Small Business
- 4:28Speaker 1: Administration not only help small businesses, but we help businesses
- 4:32Speaker 1: of all sizes. And what really people don't know is
- 4:36Speaker 1: we also help homeowners and renters with losses to their
- 4:40Speaker 1: homes and their personal property. How does that work? Just
- 4:45Speaker 1: how does that work when you say you help them out?
- 4:47Speaker 1: I know as a small business person, you know you're
- 4:50Speaker 1: trying to get back on your feet. Is that just
- 4:52Speaker 1: an extension of that? How does that exactly work? Well,
- 4:55Speaker 1: we have a Disaster Loan program, and we provide low
- 4:58Speaker 1: interest disaster loans to help people and businesses rebuild from
- 5:03Speaker 1: the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. For example, a homeowner
- 5:07Speaker 1: can come to us and apply for up to two
- 5:10Speaker 1: hundred thousand dollars to repair or replace their home. A
- 5:15Speaker 1: homeowner and a renter or someone you know who rents
- 5:18Speaker 1: an apartment or is renting a house, they can come
- 5:21Speaker 1: to us and apply for up to forty dollars to repair,
- 5:24Speaker 1: to repair or replace their personal property losses. Now, for now,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I was gonna say for businesses, UM, we offer up
- 5:32Speaker 1: to two million dollars. I know that number. How about
- 5:37Speaker 1: you don't? I know that number a little bit, Highers.
- 5:41Speaker 1: It is for businesses. You know, there's there's not only
- 5:45Speaker 1: the real estate the building that they lost, but perhaps
- 5:48Speaker 1: inventory and machinery and equipment, and you know that stuff
- 5:51Speaker 1: can add up very very quickly. So the loans can
- 5:54Speaker 1: go up to two million dollars to cover those losses.
- 5:56Speaker 1: When when people come in, how do they qualify? Brothers,
- 6:01Speaker 1: There's a there's a couple of things we look at. UM.
- 6:03Speaker 1: The first thing we want to do is make sure
- 6:05Speaker 1: that everybody registers for disaster assistance, and they can do
- 6:08Speaker 1: that by going online at Disaster Assistance dot gov. And
- 6:13Speaker 1: by doing so, that's really the key that unlocks the
- 6:16Speaker 1: door to all of the federal and state programs. So
- 6:19Speaker 1: let's let's talk about businesses. UM. A business owner can
- 6:23Speaker 1: come to us and complete an application online. UM, we
- 6:27Speaker 1: have an electronic loan application, and they can do that
- 6:31Speaker 1: one of three ways. They can do it themselves online
- 6:34Speaker 1: if they have access to the internet and just go
- 6:36Speaker 1: onto our website at www. Dot SPA dot gov. Forward
- 6:41Speaker 1: slash disaster and there's a ribbon at the top of
- 6:44Speaker 1: the screen that says Hurricane Harvey and click on that
- 6:47Speaker 1: and they'll walk you through the process. Or they can
- 6:50Speaker 1: come into one of more than fifty disaster Recovery centers
- 6:55Speaker 1: located throughout the state of Texas in the impacted area
- 6:58Speaker 1: and actually sit down with a customer service representative who
- 7:02Speaker 1: will help them complete their application. While they're in the center,
- 7:05Speaker 1: they'll walk them through the process, they'll help them enter
- 7:08Speaker 1: the data, they'll answer their questions about our program how
- 7:12Speaker 1: it can help them recover um and give them all
- 7:14Speaker 1: the information they need. Or they can do it the
- 7:17Speaker 1: old fashioned way. They can request a paper application and
- 7:19Speaker 1: mail it to But you know, here's the deal. You
- 7:22Speaker 1: hear the word s b A Small Business Administration. All
- 7:26Speaker 1: you just see is tons of paper, tons of backlog,
- 7:30Speaker 1: just that big fear that that stops people from making
- 7:33Speaker 1: that correct call, because calling you, guys is the correct
- 7:36Speaker 1: thing to do. What makes them overcome that fear, fact,
- 7:40Speaker 1: that fear of the unknown? I guess I should say
- 7:42Speaker 1: when it comes to try to get assistance with the
- 7:44Speaker 1: s b A. You know, it's a good point. People
- 7:48Speaker 1: are concerned about how to how to fill out an application,
- 7:52Speaker 1: but we streamlined the process so much over the years
- 7:55Speaker 1: that it really is become much more simple than it
- 7:58Speaker 1: used to be. UM. It takes twenty to thirty minutes
- 8:01Speaker 1: to complete an application. UM. You can fill out some
- 8:05Speaker 1: forms that will help us UM get your tax returns,
- 8:08Speaker 1: for example, so you don't necessarily have to locate those
- 8:11Speaker 1: right away, UH to get the cross started. You know,
- 8:14Speaker 1: you're right, we do have a backlog. This was an
- 8:17Speaker 1: enormous event, and we've got literally tens of thousands of
- 8:20Speaker 1: people that are coming to us for assistance. But the
- 8:23Speaker 1: good news is we're already processed about seventy of the
- 8:28Speaker 1: applications that we've received UM. So we are, you know,
- 8:33Speaker 1: processing loans quickly. We're getting them done, we're getting answers
- 8:37Speaker 1: to people about whether or not we can help them.
- 8:39Speaker 1: In fact, we're we're just about seven hundred and ten
- 8:42Speaker 1: million dollars in loan approval so far to more than
- 8:45Speaker 1: eight thousand and three hundred people. So how long I
- 8:49Speaker 1: come in? I have a person an example of my nephew.
- 8:53Speaker 1: He has a business called Big six Barbecue, very successful
- 8:57Speaker 1: food trailer, and it was damaged UH by the Hurricane
- 9:01Speaker 1: Harvard floodwaters and the rain came through the roof. So
- 9:05Speaker 1: with him being said, I asked him about the SBA
- 9:08Speaker 1: and he said, he gave me that. I don't know, uncle,
- 9:12Speaker 1: you know, you know, the insurance company is going to
- 9:14Speaker 1: give him a nice check, but he's still gonna cover
- 9:17Speaker 1: the overall repairs. How do I convince a young comportunere
- 9:21Speaker 1: like that that he said, go to s B. And
- 9:23Speaker 1: that's that's why I want this call that happens. And
- 9:25Speaker 1: you're my face because you know, hearing your VARs, hearing
- 9:29Speaker 1: the the the the willingness to help, breaking down the
- 9:33Speaker 1: walls of saying, come on in, at least listen to
- 9:35Speaker 1: what we're trying to do to help you out before
- 9:37Speaker 1: you reject the opportunity to get help. You know, you
- 9:40Speaker 1: just kind of set it yourself. You can tell your
- 9:42Speaker 1: nephew if he doesn't apply, he knows exactly what he's
- 9:45Speaker 1: going to get. That won't be anything. The nice thing
- 9:48Speaker 1: about the SBA's disastrolone program is we don't charge fees
- 9:52Speaker 1: for anything. There's no application fees, there's no loan origination fees,
- 9:56Speaker 1: there's no closing costs or document fees that you do.
- 10:00Speaker 1: So I'm glad he had flood insurance. I'm glad he's
- 10:04Speaker 1: going to get a recovery, but that recovery, as you said,
- 10:07Speaker 1: probably won't restore everything back to its predisaster condition because
- 10:12Speaker 1: some things insurance won't cover, and other things insurance will depreciate.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Something won't get the full value of it. So while
- 10:20Speaker 1: he thinks he may get a nice in church check,
- 10:23Speaker 1: there's probably going to be some costs that are just
- 10:25Speaker 1: simply not covered. Well. To get back into business, he's
- 10:28Speaker 1: going to have to cover those costs one way or another.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Maybe he has the savings, and God bless him if
- 10:34Speaker 1: he does, and that will help. Or maybe he can
- 10:37Speaker 1: use credit cards, but do you really want to take
- 10:39Speaker 1: on a high entrance card debt of nine where SPA's
- 10:44Speaker 1: disaster loans for businesses or three point three. And here's
- 10:49Speaker 1: another thing. If he comes in, spends that little bit
- 10:52Speaker 1: of time to complete his application, go through the process,
- 10:56Speaker 1: and let's say we approve him for his insurance deductible
- 10:59Speaker 1: and what is insurance doesn't cost, Let's say that's ten
- 11:01Speaker 1: thousand dollars. As he goes down the line and starts
- 11:05Speaker 1: to rebuild and repair his business, maybe he only needs
- 11:09Speaker 1: seven thousand, so that's all he takes from us, or
- 11:13Speaker 1: maybe he decides down the line, you know what, my
- 11:16Speaker 1: insurance covered more than I thought. I can use a
- 11:19Speaker 1: little bit of savings and I can get what I
- 11:21Speaker 1: need and get back into business. And I don't need
- 11:23Speaker 1: to go into debt or take a loan out. Just
- 11:25Speaker 1: tell us he doesn't want the loan, will cancel it,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and it doesn't cost him anything to do this. This
- 11:31Speaker 1: is amazing to hear this conversation. How can they get
- 11:33Speaker 1: in touch with it, not just you, just to be
- 11:35Speaker 1: able to go through the process of of of getting information. Okay,
- 11:40Speaker 1: Like I said earlier, the first thing we want people
- 11:42Speaker 1: to do is register with FEMA at Disaster Assistance dot
- 11:45Speaker 1: govn that's all one word, Disaster Assistance dot gov for SBA.
- 11:50Speaker 1: For a business owner, they can call us directly at
- 11:53Speaker 1: six five nine two nine five five, talk with our
- 11:58Speaker 1: customer service representatives and they'll walk you through the process.
- 12:01Speaker 1: They'll give you the information you need. Or another really
- 12:05Speaker 1: really good way, and this is the way I recommended
- 12:08Speaker 1: all people do. Take some time and go down and
- 12:10Speaker 1: visit us at a disaster recovery center. And uh, like
- 12:14Speaker 1: I said, there's more than fifty those established throughout the
- 12:17Speaker 1: impacted area. You can go online at that website I
- 12:21Speaker 1: gave you www dot sp A, dot gov slash disaster
- 12:25Speaker 1: and find a location that's near you. They're listed in
- 12:28Speaker 1: county order. Okay, my last course of go be when
- 12:31Speaker 1: you get a law for forty dollars? What is the
- 12:35Speaker 1: what is it? The payback period? Alone? Like that? I
- 12:38Speaker 1: know interest, but what is the payback period? A couple
- 12:42Speaker 1: of things. For businesses, the interest rates generally three point
- 12:46Speaker 1: three percent, as we discussed, and for homeowners's generally one
- 12:49Speaker 1: point seven five. The maximum term on the loan is
- 12:51Speaker 1: up to thirty years. So you get busy, You get
- 12:57Speaker 1: busy just doubling of the payments to get rid of
- 12:59Speaker 1: the correct and there's no prepayment filling penalty. You want
- 13:03Speaker 1: to pay that loan off earlier. We want you to
- 13:06Speaker 1: do that, no cost to you to do that. Let
- 13:09Speaker 1: me get get this shout I going rich. Let me
- 13:11Speaker 1: let me get this shout I going. You hear this,
- 13:13Speaker 1: ladies and jump you actually have a face on my
- 13:16Speaker 1: radio show, Money Making Conversation. Three point three interest rate
- 13:21Speaker 1: for small businesses up to thirty years. You said, correct
- 13:26Speaker 1: that thirty years with no early payoff penalties if you
- 13:31Speaker 1: don't take advantage of this. Let's say you do have
- 13:33Speaker 1: flood insurance, put that in the bank. You that as
- 13:36Speaker 1: operational costs build momentum just the first time. You know,
- 13:40Speaker 1: you treat this as a potential blessing here, because it
- 13:43Speaker 1: really is, because you can take that insurance money put
- 13:46Speaker 1: in the bank if you need, and then take the
- 13:48Speaker 1: loan and rebuild your property itself. Correct, Is that? Well? No, no, not.
- 13:56Speaker 1: If we can make a loan, then we can make
- 14:00Speaker 1: that loan before your insurance company settles. Okay, we make
- 14:02Speaker 1: it for dollars and you end up getting twenty from
- 14:07Speaker 1: your insurance. We would take twenty of your insurance and
- 14:10Speaker 1: pay off the loan because we're not permitted to duplicate
- 14:14Speaker 1: other recoveries from other programs or other insurance. But we
- 14:18Speaker 1: can make the loan while you're waiting on your insurance
- 14:22Speaker 1: to settle, so you can start to use our money.
- 14:24Speaker 1: And then if the insurance settles, you know, six weeks
- 14:27Speaker 1: from now or something, you'll still be able to start rebuilding.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Once the insurance settles, will pay off the loan and
- 14:33Speaker 1: then you'll be debt free. My man, I wanna, I'm
- 14:37Speaker 1: talk to my nephew today we would doing some business together. Well, importantly,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I want my listeners on Facebook who are watching to
- 14:44Speaker 1: contact this organization and that has a face. His name
- 14:48Speaker 1: is Mr Jenkins down at the SBA office for a
- 14:53Speaker 1: disaster assistant. I want to thank you for calling in.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I want to bring you on a couple of weeks
- 14:56Speaker 1: just to keep reminding people because we know this is
- 14:58Speaker 1: a recovery process. It's not gonna happen overnight. And the
- 15:02Speaker 1: fact that you took the time to come by the
- 15:03Speaker 1: show to day, I really appreciate it. Okay, we're very
- 15:06Speaker 1: happy to be here and we always look forward to
- 15:08Speaker 1: talking to your audience. Thank you, my friend. All right,
- 15:10Speaker 1: thank you. We'll be back from more money making conversations.
- 15:14Speaker 1: As you know, we're about giving you information to win
- 15:17Speaker 1: with the small business. You need to contact the Small
- 15:20Speaker 1: Business Administration. I was on the phone right there with
- 15:23Speaker 1: Richard Jenkins, who's telling you how you get loan three
- 15:26Speaker 1: point for small businesses up to thirty years to pay
- 15:29Speaker 1: back one point seven interest rate for small for homeowners
- 15:34Speaker 1: and if you paid off early, there are no penalties.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Information you can use one the main conversation. You're right
- 15:40Speaker 1: back with my man your own love of Texas Black
- 15:43Speaker 1: ex FO. Hi, welcome back to money Making Conversations. I
- 15:54Speaker 1: want to thank my man Ricky Jenkins from the Small
- 15:57Speaker 1: Business Administration Disaster Assistance Office. Guess what, They're trying to
- 16:02Speaker 1: help us out, just like I'm trying to help you
- 16:04Speaker 1: out every Monday by giving you information to win with. Again,
- 16:06Speaker 1: those loans SBA loans for small businesses is three point
- 16:10Speaker 1: three for homeowners one point seven percent. Long payoff is
- 16:14Speaker 1: thirty years and there's no early payoff company. So please
- 16:18Speaker 1: contact him. They go online and make it happen. My
- 16:21Speaker 1: next guess he's on the phone and two thousand and
- 16:24Speaker 1: two he founded the Texas Black Expo, which now produced
- 16:27Speaker 1: is one of America's largest business expos in Houston, Texas.
- 16:31Speaker 1: He is also my partner raising money for small businesses
- 16:34Speaker 1: who are adversely affected by Hurricane Hark. Please welcome to
- 16:38Speaker 1: money making Conversations. The energetic passionate joll Love. Hey, good lord,
- 16:45Speaker 1: and how you're doing a shine. I want to thank
- 16:47Speaker 1: you so much for having me on your show. I'm
- 16:49Speaker 1: really looking forward to it, and thank you for all
- 16:52Speaker 1: you're doing to the business community. Well, I want to
- 16:55Speaker 1: thank you for for being my friend man. Uh, thank
- 16:58Speaker 1: you for that compliment. Uh. You know the fact that
- 17:01Speaker 1: we never met and we we joined causes to uh
- 17:04Speaker 1: do good for people we don't know. And before we
- 17:08Speaker 1: get started, we're gonna listen to know what we're talking
- 17:10Speaker 1: about is that you know, Drome, who was the founder
- 17:14Speaker 1: of Texas Black Expo, contacted me and say we need
- 17:17Speaker 1: to do something Rashaan to help out these small businesses
- 17:20Speaker 1: that have been hurt or damaged or closed because of
- 17:25Speaker 1: Arricane Harvey. A lot of people always hear about the individuals,
- 17:29Speaker 1: but these individuals also own business, and these businesses hire people,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and these businesses create tax issues trying to create taxes
- 17:37Speaker 1: that en able to deceit to be run at the
- 17:39Speaker 1: quality level that is run. And we're giving away a
- 17:42Speaker 1: thousand dollars to applicants who follow online at the Texas
- 17:46Speaker 1: Black Expo. And it's been the exciting run and uh
- 17:49Speaker 1: our goal is a hundred thousand dollars and uh we
- 17:52Speaker 1: want to give a thousand dollars text to each anything
- 17:55Speaker 1: you want to follow up on that before we get
- 17:56Speaker 1: this actual interview about the Texas Black Expot. Rome, know,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I think that's that's absolutely it um, just a quick update.
- 18:04Speaker 1: We uh, we have pledged over about thirty one thousand
- 18:08Speaker 1: dollars that we have pledged. We've already given out eighteen
- 18:13Speaker 1: thousand on October twelve, and we're gonna be giving out
- 18:16Speaker 1: another ten thousand to ten small business on this thousand
- 18:20Speaker 1: dollar grants. So we are about thirty something percent of
- 18:23Speaker 1: away there. But I do want to encourage all of
- 18:26Speaker 1: your listeners to continue to give, continue to support. If
- 18:29Speaker 1: you go to Texas Black Expert dot com, there's a
- 18:32Speaker 1: big league where they can make their donations because, like
- 18:35Speaker 1: like with Sean said, I mean, this is critically important, folks.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I heard the mayor one of his press conferences. He
- 18:42Speaker 1: said that fifty of Houstonians are richards. Twenty five percent
- 18:47Speaker 1: of those haven't gone back to work, and and one
- 18:52Speaker 1: of the things he didn't say, and I don't have
- 18:54Speaker 1: the statistics on, but I would imagine a pretty large
- 18:56Speaker 1: percentage of those individuals work for small business sits. So
- 19:00Speaker 1: we're from most most everybody's focusing on temporary house and
- 19:04Speaker 1: m r s and things of that nature. But that's
- 19:06Speaker 1: just a temporary thing. If you give them an m
- 19:09Speaker 1: R E, but they don't have a job. Next week.
- 19:11Speaker 1: That's like giving them man of fish, but not teaching
- 19:13Speaker 1: them out of fish. There's no long term sustainability. So
- 19:17Speaker 1: I think that this Hurricane Harvey relief effort is vitally
- 19:21Speaker 1: important because it provides that long term sustainability by helping
- 19:25Speaker 1: to support the businesses, to support the business owner, you
- 19:28Speaker 1: support those that work for them, and they have families.
- 19:32Speaker 1: So it's just critically important. So the only thing I
- 19:35Speaker 1: want to say is, please help us reach the goal
- 19:37Speaker 1: thousand dollars you know the tax of Black Expo dot
- 19:40Speaker 1: com making donation. Add another please please please go to
- 19:45Speaker 1: because Texas Expo Black Black Expo dot com and make
- 19:48Speaker 1: that donation. Okay, we've been We've said the name several times.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Attorney jay Leen mac has always spoken highly in the
- 19:56Speaker 1: Texas Black Expo and she'd actually made the connection before
- 20:00Speaker 1: for both of us to meet and start this really
- 20:02Speaker 1: positive campaign eighties small business. What exactly is the Texas
- 20:06Speaker 1: Black Expot Well, the Texas Black exploss she said, we
- 20:10Speaker 1: produced the largest African American empowerment festival in the state
- 20:13Speaker 1: of Texas. I missed is very clear. Strengthening businesses, empowering youth,
- 20:18Speaker 1: and building better lives. So we do a myriad of
- 20:20Speaker 1: programs that helped to build and support small businesses across
- 20:24Speaker 1: the state of Texas. But what we're most notably known
- 20:27Speaker 1: for is our Summer Celebration, which takes place in June.
- 20:31Speaker 1: UM So imagine a hundred and fifty two hundreds small businesses,
- 20:35Speaker 1: large businesses selling their products and services. We have a
- 20:38Speaker 1: big trade show, we have women's forms, we have um
- 20:42Speaker 1: A kid's on we have health fares, we have celebrity appearances, concerts,
- 20:47Speaker 1: comedy shows, you name it. We have and source of
- 20:49Speaker 1: big festival for the community. And and it's really geared.
- 20:53Speaker 1: All businesses are welcome. And I always tell people to
- 20:55Speaker 1: make color is not black. This creed is all about
- 20:59Speaker 1: economic it's building his businesses. However, just as you know
- 21:04Speaker 1: their initiatives to support hurricane army or because there's a
- 21:08Speaker 1: specific need there, we do address the specific needs of
- 21:12Speaker 1: the African American community because we know that there are
- 21:16Speaker 1: so many negative statistics statistics that affect the African American
- 21:21Speaker 1: community and the businesses that support those communities. So we
- 21:24Speaker 1: do provide a lot of programming and our focus is
- 21:27Speaker 1: on supporting those that are that are kind of in
- 21:30Speaker 1: in in harms ways and and and that's that's important
- 21:33Speaker 1: to understand. That's why I'm a champion of his conversation.
- 21:35Speaker 1: When I said his conversation, I'm talking with John Love
- 21:38Speaker 1: and two thousand two he went out there, he jumped
- 21:41Speaker 1: and started the Texas Black Expo, an idea that four
- 21:45Speaker 1: years old. You know, you know and that that that
- 21:48Speaker 1: that's important that people understand that that's that you did
- 21:51Speaker 1: that because all you've had that entrepreneur spirit throughout your life.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Everything's reading the bio and we had conversations all the
- 21:58Speaker 1: way back to nineteen you are You've been you've been
- 22:01Speaker 1: telling clothes, you've been writing books, you've been motivating everybody
- 22:05Speaker 1: to win. Yes, sir, Yes, why you're wrong? Why? Why? Well,
- 22:10Speaker 1: well let me let me go back to black egg,
- 22:13Speaker 1: but I'll tie you to this Hurricane Harvard campaign. One
- 22:16Speaker 1: are the talking points that you will that I have
- 22:19Speaker 1: been making when people ask me why we're doing this
- 22:22Speaker 1: and why it's so important. As I said, the most
- 22:24Speaker 1: efficient use of capital doing good time like this is
- 22:28Speaker 1: to support a small business. Because you're undergirth that small business.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Not only do you help that owner his family, you
- 22:34Speaker 1: help the people they employ in their families. So in
- 22:38Speaker 1: a disaster situation, it's the best use of capital. Well,
- 22:42Speaker 1: when you look at black expol and you look at
- 22:44Speaker 1: the Black community, when you look at the amount of
- 22:47Speaker 1: African American men in prison, you look at our birth
- 22:49Speaker 1: rates versus are death rates, the HIV and the health conditions,
- 22:54Speaker 1: all that time of stuff, you can parallel and say
- 22:56Speaker 1: in many respects the African American community, even the asterisks,
- 23:01Speaker 1: it's in kahos. And just as supporting businesses can help
- 23:06Speaker 1: in a disaster situation such as Harvey, building show businesses
- 23:10Speaker 1: can help to turn around some of these negative situations
- 23:14Speaker 1: affective the African American community. And we should not be
- 23:18Speaker 1: sitting back and waiting for anyone else to do anything
- 23:21Speaker 1: for us. We need to be able to build our
- 23:23Speaker 1: own businesses. I heard old people affect our own unemployment rates.
- 23:28Speaker 1: If we have the we we're trillion dollar consumable. There's
- 23:31Speaker 1: no reason we shouldn't be able to build our own communities.
- 23:34Speaker 1: So that's why I do it. That's why it takes
- 23:36Speaker 1: as black Exploits so important now in terms of how
- 23:40Speaker 1: I got into business. You know, I'm old school. My
- 23:42Speaker 1: dad was grew up on the farm. He told me,
- 23:45Speaker 1: go go, go work hard, get your education so you
- 23:48Speaker 1: can get a good job. And I did that, and
- 23:50Speaker 1: I got myself called good job. And I realized that
- 23:54Speaker 1: that wasn't too good for me, and I jumped out
- 23:57Speaker 1: and I said, I want to start my own business.
- 23:59Speaker 1: And I had no training, no knowledge of how to
- 24:02Speaker 1: build a business. I just had a drive and the desire,
- 24:05Speaker 1: and I got out there, started my first business when
- 24:07Speaker 1: I was nineteen. By time I was twenty five, I
- 24:10Speaker 1: was in the whole over a hundred thousand dollars. But
- 24:13Speaker 1: I went on to learn a line from my mistakes.
- 24:16Speaker 1: And that's why I'm so passionate about trying to help
- 24:19Speaker 1: others who are trying to be successful in business, um
- 24:22Speaker 1: and particularly in the minority community, because which is not
- 24:25Speaker 1: groom to think entrepreneur. We're not groom to think business.
- 24:29Speaker 1: That's amazing. It's amazing because I I hear the passion
- 24:32Speaker 1: that I hear the information, so you able to deliver
- 24:34Speaker 1: passionate information. Very rarely do people do that. You know,
- 24:38Speaker 1: then you didn't get on top of a box and
- 24:40Speaker 1: and and just scream to do until they blew in
- 24:43Speaker 1: the phase. But they don't give you information and information
- 24:46Speaker 1: you're telling you is that get up and empower you
- 24:48Speaker 1: yourself and not wait, IMpower yourself. And that's the purpose
- 24:54Speaker 1: of why you start. That's your missrs statement. And I
- 24:56Speaker 1: love the fact that your Mrs David, you're telling me,
- 24:58Speaker 1: come one, come all. But more importantly, African Americans start
- 25:03Speaker 1: lining up first for a change and starting and starting
- 25:05Speaker 1: for people to offer you change, you should make change yourself.
- 25:09Speaker 1: And that's the interstatement of the Texas Black Expo. Correct, yes, sir, yes, sir,
- 25:15Speaker 1: it is. And I just think that we gotta be
- 25:18Speaker 1: able to control our own destinies. We cannot be sitting
- 25:22Speaker 1: and waiting for anyone else to take care of us.
- 25:25Speaker 1: And I think that's what really I just really feel
- 25:28Speaker 1: so blessed. My my dad actually died a couple of
- 25:31Speaker 1: years ago and cancer, and I never forget I was.
- 25:34Speaker 1: My office is very close to the medical center here
- 25:37Speaker 1: in Houston. And you know, my dad's one of those
- 25:39Speaker 1: old school guys. He had to go in for the
- 25:42Speaker 1: dated m R. I. And he if this m R
- 25:46Speaker 1: I was at ten o'clock. He showed up nine o'clock
- 25:48Speaker 1: by himself, and they told I'm sir, you can't come
- 25:51Speaker 1: get a dated m r. I by yourself. Who So
- 25:57Speaker 1: my dad had called me. My dad called about nine thirty.
- 26:00Speaker 1: He said, son, I need you, and I said what
- 26:03Speaker 1: you need? He said, they won't let me get this
- 26:05Speaker 1: in mariality and somebody's with me. So I wrote what
- 26:07Speaker 1: I was doing, roll to the medical center when with him,
- 26:11Speaker 1: took them back to his hotel. Standing this hotel for
- 26:14Speaker 1: about four or five hours working over our computer, um
- 26:17Speaker 1: doing black export and everything else. And but what's my point?
- 26:21Speaker 1: My point is I was able to control my own
- 26:24Speaker 1: destiny because I have my own business. And when my
- 26:26Speaker 1: dad asked me we were talking, he said, well, what
- 26:28Speaker 1: do you think success is what makes you blessed? And
- 26:30Speaker 1: I said, I feel blessed right here because when you
- 26:33Speaker 1: called me, I'm able to be there for you. I'm
- 26:36Speaker 1: still able here to work. I'm still able to do
- 26:39Speaker 1: what I need to take care of my family. And
- 26:41Speaker 1: I'm not having to go check with anyone else and this,
- 26:43Speaker 1: that and the other. And I think that's the power
- 26:45Speaker 1: of entrepreneurship. I'm able to help my dad, I'm able
- 26:49Speaker 1: to help my children, I'm able. We're able to do
- 26:51Speaker 1: so much more when we have businesses and control our
- 26:54Speaker 1: own destiny, love you, not a one break guess. I'm
- 27:05Speaker 1: about to bring you back my friends, you know, and
- 27:08Speaker 1: I want to just bring you back. You know. The
- 27:10Speaker 1: basic your conversation is Texas and Black Expo. But I
- 27:13Speaker 1: do want to bring you back so people can call
- 27:15Speaker 1: and ask your questions about entrepreneurship, because that's what they
- 27:18Speaker 1: really need to understand. And what people tend to not
- 27:20Speaker 1: believe is that. And I know I'm doing something unique
- 27:23Speaker 1: here because I'm not talking about entertainment. I'm not talking
- 27:26Speaker 1: about movies and I'm talking about sports. I'm talking about business.
- 27:29Speaker 1: A lot of people when they hear the word business,
- 27:31Speaker 1: they don't think that affects them just because they're employed.
- 27:34Speaker 1: I'm just trying to let people know that you can
- 27:37Speaker 1: have the entrepreneurs spirit and work for somebody which will
- 27:40Speaker 1: make you a better employee, which will make you make
- 27:43Speaker 1: more money. Yeah yeah, yeah, I don't can tell people.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I say, we're all entrepreneurs, some others are just independent
- 27:50Speaker 1: contract After you work for McDonald, contracting your services to
- 27:54Speaker 1: McDonald for a certain defeat, And when you think that way,
- 27:58Speaker 1: you value yourself more are and you will you will
- 28:01Speaker 1: you will be more productive, you know, to draw give
- 28:03Speaker 1: me one more time on how they can make that
- 28:05Speaker 1: donation to the Harricane Relief for small businesses, so I
- 28:09Speaker 1: can get all out of here, brother, and we're gonna
- 28:11Speaker 1: We're gonna tell Samath to call you reschedule you for
- 28:13Speaker 1: two breaks this month, my man. Yes, yes, sir, it

- 28:57Speaker 1: We're coming up next if you want to know about LinkedIn,
- 29:01Speaker 1: I got the foremost authority on the social media platform
- 29:04Speaker 1: linked In. His name is Robert young Blood. He's been
- 29:07Speaker 1: on the show before. He turned it out. He's coming back.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I got it for two breaks. Well with Money Making Conversation.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I'm your host, Rashan McDonald. Welcome back, ras Sean mcdonaldly
- 29:25Speaker 1: hosts of Money Making Conversations. We're having a great day
- 29:28Speaker 1: so far. I like to believe it's a great day
- 29:31Speaker 1: doing our thing, talking to different people about being successful.
- 29:34Speaker 1: My next guest, well, you're not having on the show
- 29:37Speaker 1: before you know, I am a I am a LinkedIn fan.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna just tell everybody right now. You know I
- 29:43Speaker 1: got success on social media on the Facebook, I got
- 29:46Speaker 1: success on the Instagram, and I got success into Twitter. Twitter.
- 29:50Speaker 1: I'm not really I don't really get into Twitter as much.
- 29:52Speaker 1: For Facebook and Instagram, very strong movement there. But my
- 29:57Speaker 1: favorite platform is linked In. I post as much as
- 30:01Speaker 1: possible about what I'm doing with my career to get
- 30:03Speaker 1: the word out for over two decades. My next guest,
- 30:06Speaker 1: are Y be Connect has focused his energy on building
- 30:10Speaker 1: and maintaining quality relationships, which is one of the true
- 30:13Speaker 1: keys to success is relationships. He's one of the foremost
- 30:17Speaker 1: authorities on the social media platform linked In. Please workome
- 30:21Speaker 1: the money making conversations Robert T. Young Blood, How the
- 30:25Speaker 1: Robert I'm doing well? Ver Sean Peason blessing. Can you
- 30:28Speaker 1: hear me, sir? Absolutely? And Robert and I am. I'm
- 30:31Speaker 1: making you sound big, am I'm making That's the goal here, Robert,
- 30:33Speaker 1: because you got it going on with that LinkedIn My man.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Let me tell you what, man, I feel big, but
- 30:39Speaker 1: when I'm around giants, man, I feel like I'm in
- 30:41Speaker 1: the right place. So thank you so much for the
- 30:42Speaker 1: opportunity to be with you today. Appreciate it. Now tell
- 30:45Speaker 1: me this what is when the whole uh you know,
- 30:48Speaker 1: I had you on the show before only one break.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I got to feel two break because I want to
- 30:51Speaker 1: slow it down and I'm not I'm not trying to
- 30:54Speaker 1: have you give a seminar on my show, but I
- 30:57Speaker 1: want to to educate you know, also hopefully dry business
- 31:00Speaker 1: and relationships with you on LinkedIn that can build your
- 31:03Speaker 1: brand through Why be Connects. What exactly is why be Connects?
- 31:09Speaker 1: So Why be Connects is a strategic consulting and coaching firm.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I work with sales executives and entrepreneurs to help them
- 31:18Speaker 1: to enhance their visibility, credibility, and profitability using tools like LinkedIn.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Now when you have not not to what is the
- 31:28Speaker 1: difference Because I like I said that, I told her
- 31:31Speaker 1: I'm very successful on Facebook. I used it a lot. Instagram, Twitter,
- 31:35Speaker 1: not feeling Twitter, but I do have a Twitter account.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Now I have the same thing with moneymaking conversations. I
- 31:40Speaker 1: have a monimating conversations Facebook account and have a moneymaking
- 31:44Speaker 1: conversations Twitter account. What is the true value of LinkedIn?
- 31:50Speaker 1: The true value of LinkedIn is the opportunity to connect
- 31:53Speaker 1: with business professionals, whether they are CEOs or managing directors
- 31:59Speaker 1: of companies, or if they are the people who can
- 32:03Speaker 1: decide to hire you for potential opportunities, recruiters and such um.
- 32:07Speaker 1: The difference between Facebook and LinkedIn is that Facebook is
- 32:11Speaker 1: mainly social. It's mainly personal from a you know, I
- 32:15Speaker 1: know you from college and we just talk about anything
- 32:18Speaker 1: and everything. LinkedIn is focuses primarily on your professional brand,
- 32:23Speaker 1: your ability to attract those opportunities that will lead to
- 32:27Speaker 1: revenue or lead to income, and so you know, in
- 32:31Speaker 1: some cases you're not able to get in front of
- 32:33Speaker 1: the CEO on Facebook, but you can get in front
- 32:36Speaker 1: of the CEOs on LinkedIn. So if your goal as
- 32:38Speaker 1: an entrepreneur is to secure a speaking opportunity, or maybe
- 32:42Speaker 1: you want to identify additional sponsors, LinkedIn is the place
- 32:47Speaker 1: to do it because people are using that platform to
- 32:50Speaker 1: discuss business topics. That being said, how do you help
- 32:54Speaker 1: a person, how do you help a company take advantage
- 32:56Speaker 1: of that platform. So my my aliens are solrpreneurs. My
- 33:02Speaker 1: my work with a lot of authors, speakers, coaches, life coaches,
- 33:07Speaker 1: and so their biggest challenge is really identifying their next client.
- 33:11Speaker 1: It's really helping them to attract their ideal client. I'll
- 33:14Speaker 1: have a philosophy that if no one knows you exist,
- 33:17Speaker 1: they can't pay you. So what we want to do
- 33:20Speaker 1: is I focus on teaching my clients how to be visible,
- 33:23Speaker 1: how to perfect their elevator pitch, how to promote who
- 33:27Speaker 1: they are, what they do, how they do what they do,
- 33:30Speaker 1: and then who needs their service. Once they gain that
- 33:34Speaker 1: level of clarity and confidence, then we transition to LinkedIn
- 33:38Speaker 1: to put those in words so that we can begin
- 33:40Speaker 1: to magnetize their LinkedIn profile. And when I say magnetized,
- 33:45Speaker 1: I mean to draw people to you. There's certain words
- 33:48Speaker 1: that that attracts people to the profile, and when the
- 33:52Speaker 1: right person finds your profile, they're going to send you
- 33:54Speaker 1: an invitation to connect, and that's when the relationship can begin.
- 33:58Speaker 1: I believe that because some times, you know, I just
- 34:01Speaker 1: started LinkedIn this year, you know, I got almost like
- 34:04Speaker 1: five thousand connects. And the thing about it is that
- 34:08Speaker 1: I know some weeks and not you know, people just
- 34:12Speaker 1: joining me left and right, and then some weeks nobody's
- 34:16Speaker 1: joining me, and so so it really is tied to
- 34:20Speaker 1: terms and how you present your present, your your profile,
- 34:25Speaker 1: your your your posts. Correct, that's correct, And I think
- 34:28Speaker 1: the key is it has to go beyond the connection.
- 34:31Speaker 1: So you know, we we may have five thousand connections,
- 34:35Speaker 1: but how well do we know those connections? Right? See,
- 34:38Speaker 1: they may be connections, but they're not as strong. Your
- 34:41Speaker 1: network is not strong if you can't say anything about
- 34:44Speaker 1: them that you know about them personally. And that's my
- 34:47Speaker 1: charge connections. I'm profound that. Now say that one more time,
- 34:52Speaker 1: because the goal with anything is to get numbers. Numbers
- 34:55Speaker 1: mean something, you know, you everybody I got a million,
- 34:58Speaker 1: is I got a hundred? Got kind of brain that
- 35:00Speaker 1: got five thousands, you say, right, just because you've got
- 35:04Speaker 1: five thousands, if you don't know your five thousands, they're worthless, right, correct,
- 35:09Speaker 1: that's right, Yeah, it's I would say, and they're not
- 35:12Speaker 1: worth it. I would say your network is not as strong. So,
- 35:15Speaker 1: for example, you're doing a major fundraiser helping the people
- 35:18Speaker 1: are Houston out. You've you've got a credit, you've got
- 35:20Speaker 1: credibility with the people that you know. But imagine if
- 35:23Speaker 1: those five thousand people don't really know you and you
- 35:26Speaker 1: ask them for your help. You ask them for help,
- 35:28Speaker 1: and they're not gonna respond because they're like, Okay, I'm
- 35:30Speaker 1: connected to you, I like you, but I don't really
- 35:33Speaker 1: know you that well, so I'm not gonna open up
- 35:34Speaker 1: my checkbook. But if you knew them, if you went deep,
- 35:37Speaker 1: if you serve them, and what happens is you put
- 35:39Speaker 1: out a request, they'll jump right on it because they
- 35:43Speaker 1: feel some level of connection to you personally, not to
- 35:46Speaker 1: you just socially, but they feel connected to you personally.
- 35:50Speaker 1: And that's that's something amazing. I guess that a classic
- 35:52Speaker 1: example of connecting to someone personally. The J. J. Watts
- 35:56Speaker 1: Hurricane Harvey campaign. You know, he said, got two fifty dollars.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Now he's at thirty three million dollars. And so now
- 36:04Speaker 1: I'll let you know that the people he connected with
- 36:07Speaker 1: those people. That's just a huge example of how somebody
- 36:10Speaker 1: who can connect with you emotionally will translate into an
- 36:13Speaker 1: amazing response. And that's basically the purpose of your company
- 36:17Speaker 1: is to find a person or a company's social media
- 36:21Speaker 1: boars is that correct? That's correct, and to help them
- 36:25Speaker 1: understand how to add value first. So most people in business,
- 36:29Speaker 1: they want to sell. And there's nothing wrong with selling.
- 36:31Speaker 1: There's nothing wrong with it because if you think about it,
- 36:33Speaker 1: if no one sells, no one eats, right. But there's
- 36:36Speaker 1: a way to sell in a way that people see
- 36:39Speaker 1: it as mutually beneficial. And so it's just a matter
- 36:41Speaker 1: of slowing down to speed up. So I believe that
- 36:45Speaker 1: if you find a way to serve people first. So
- 36:47Speaker 1: if I'm able to serve you and then I can
- 36:50Speaker 1: identify a gap that you have, I'm not selling you now.
- 36:54Speaker 1: I'm essentially giving you an opportunity to buy a solution
- 36:57Speaker 1: that solves your problem. And so that's what I strive
- 36:59Speaker 1: to do. I strive to help my clients to to
- 37:02Speaker 1: think differently when it comes to business development, because if
- 37:05Speaker 1: you're not out there people, hitting the pavement and building relationships,
- 37:09Speaker 1: you know your business is going to go out of
- 37:11Speaker 1: business because of lack of business. And I go is
- 37:13Speaker 1: to put you in a position that you can attract
- 37:16Speaker 1: that using this tool that we call LinkedIn. Okay, before
- 37:19Speaker 1: we go to break, because I'm bringing Robert of why
- 37:21Speaker 1: be Connects, one of the foremost authorities on the social
- 37:24Speaker 1: media platform LinkedIn. How can I get into contracted with you?
- 37:28Speaker 1: Contact with you, Robert? The best way. The best way
- 37:31Speaker 1: is through my website which is www dot y be
- 37:34Speaker 1: connects dot com. On all of the platforms social media wise,
- 37:38Speaker 1: they can find me at why be Connects and uh
- 37:40Speaker 1: and I love connecting with people specifically through LinkedIn, so
- 37:44Speaker 1: they can send me an invitation, let them let me
- 37:46Speaker 1: know that they heard about me on your show. Well,
- 37:49Speaker 1: as long as they heard about you. That's the goal.
- 37:51Speaker 1: That's why I got brought you back because I know
- 37:53Speaker 1: in any type of business, it's about consistent awareness. If
- 37:56Speaker 1: you consistently stay in front of somebody, eventually they're gonna
- 37:59Speaker 1: ask and you're abviously gonna take over and you have
- 38:01Speaker 1: the ability and you've shown me you're just watching your
- 38:05Speaker 1: post on LinkedIn that you all a ware or how
- 38:08Speaker 1: to communicate and share opportunities and also letting everybody know
- 38:12Speaker 1: what's going on in the why be connect space. We've
- 38:15Speaker 1: been back with more with Robert young Blood, who is
- 38:18Speaker 1: the founder of why be Connects again, one of the
- 38:20Speaker 1: foremost authorities on the social media platform LinkedIn. If you're
- 38:24Speaker 1: not listening, to tell other people they need to listen
- 38:26Speaker 1: to because it's money making conversation. I see you on
- 38:29Speaker 1: Facebook money making conversation on Facebook fourteen eighty down in Houston, Texas,
- 38:33Speaker 1: and I am also heard on our Heart radio podcast
- 38:36Speaker 1: on the Business Finance. We're getting it out there, Robert.
- 38:39Speaker 1: We'll be back with more. How this ra Sean McDonald.
- 38:45Speaker 1: You're listening to money making Conversation. If you have any
- 38:47Speaker 1: phone calls, you want to talk to us, anybody you
- 38:49Speaker 1: want to talk to on this show. It's about helping
- 38:52Speaker 1: you be a better person in your life, which is
- 38:54Speaker 1: your personal life. It's where as your career in business.
- 38:56Speaker 1: On the phone right now, I have from why Be
- 38:58Speaker 1: Connects and the I'm gonna keep you holding out that
- 39:01Speaker 1: title of people understand what I'm trying to do to you.
- 39:04Speaker 1: I'm trying to give you relationships that will help you
- 39:07Speaker 1: in your personal life, in your business life, and then
- 39:10Speaker 1: also your life in general because a lot of people
- 39:12Speaker 1: jumping on these social media platforms and not really understanding.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Every time I have an interview on this show, I've
- 39:18Speaker 1: become better educated about what I'm doing, better understanding of
- 39:22Speaker 1: how I can do it better because it's a lot
- 39:24Speaker 1: of mean you said to work right, like foolishness going
- 39:27Speaker 1: on on social media. Now, what you don't see on
- 39:31Speaker 1: LinkedIn is bikini pictures. You don't see them, little poses
- 39:35Speaker 1: that they see them, little the little profile booty shots.
- 39:38Speaker 1: You know, did you see on Facebook and Instagram? You
- 39:41Speaker 1: don't see that because on LinkedIn you trying to get
- 39:44Speaker 1: a job or you trying to present yourself in the
- 39:47Speaker 1: professional manner that you want to speak or attract other
- 39:50Speaker 1: professional people to communicate with you in a business format. Again,
- 39:56Speaker 1: let me bring back up live my man, Robert young Block. Robert,
- 39:59Speaker 1: did I it correctly that my friends did? I said correctly?
- 40:03Speaker 1: You said it absolutely correctly, and and I believe that
- 40:06Speaker 1: if if people do post those type of pictures, they
- 40:08Speaker 1: just have not understood the fact that LinkedIn is about
- 40:13Speaker 1: business and that that type of business. Most people I
- 40:16Speaker 1: look for that type of business on LinkedIn, so they
- 40:18Speaker 1: posting that that's not that's not appropriate. But I think
- 40:21Speaker 1: the key is really understanding how to network. And I
- 40:24Speaker 1: think a lot of people think they know how to network.
- 40:27Speaker 1: But the truth, the true definition of networking is the
- 40:31Speaker 1: ability to connect with others in a way that you
- 40:34Speaker 1: create mutual benefit. So if it's all about you, it's
- 40:38Speaker 1: not networking. If it's mutually beneficial, then it's about networking.
- 40:42Speaker 1: And I learned that from Dr George Fraser, one of
- 40:44Speaker 1: the premier leaders in networking, who's been teaching that for
- 40:48Speaker 1: for years. And I'm just I'm thankful to be able
- 40:50Speaker 1: to take that message to this new generation. Days that
- 40:52Speaker 1: I met he had Steve Harry and I both met
- 40:54Speaker 1: him in Cleveland, went up there for one of his uh,
- 40:57Speaker 1: his entrepreneurs. He looked with his way, him and less
- 41:00Speaker 1: Brown been doing this way for anybody else thought about
- 41:03Speaker 1: doing it, you know, motivating people for success, you know. Uh.
- 41:07Speaker 1: George Frasier, who was on has been on this small
- 41:11Speaker 1: entrepreneur tip of opportunities for at least twenty to twenty
- 41:15Speaker 1: five years. That I know of, and he's still at
- 41:18Speaker 1: the forefront of it. And for you to say his name,
- 41:20Speaker 1: I just can't let that name just slide by and
- 41:23Speaker 1: not let everybody know. Why did he bring up that name?
- 41:25Speaker 1: You should google his name. I think Fraser's spelled f
- 41:28Speaker 1: R A S c R. Correct. That's correct. Yeah, that's correct.
- 41:32Speaker 1: And uh and and he and and so when you
- 41:35Speaker 1: think about those you mentioned, Les Brown. I also got
- 41:37Speaker 1: to give a shout out to another one of my coaches,
- 41:39Speaker 1: Dr Eric Thomas. She had he was on Yeah, that's preacher,
- 41:44Speaker 1: he's blazing the trail. I'm excited. I'm excited because a
- 41:48Speaker 1: lot of what I'm doing, uh, in terms of just
- 41:51Speaker 1: really enhancing people's lives has come as a result of
- 41:55Speaker 1: my relationship with ET you mean, a part of real
- 41:57Speaker 1: university and also you know, just being prepared it as
- 42:00Speaker 1: a speaker. But you know, the key, the key to
- 42:02Speaker 1: all of that is networking. Is is the relationships that
- 42:05Speaker 1: you build. And there's also understanding exactly what is that
- 42:09Speaker 1: you want to do and where you want to go.
- 42:11Speaker 1: And I tie that back into LinkedIn because if you
- 42:14Speaker 1: don't know what you want and you don't know where
- 42:16Speaker 1: you're striving to go. When you connect with the right person,
- 42:19Speaker 1: you're gonna waste their time. And a lot of times
- 42:22Speaker 1: people are saying they want mentors, but what they need
- 42:24Speaker 1: or they need coaches. There's a big difference between a
- 42:27Speaker 1: mentor and the coach. And a mentor is gonna give
- 42:29Speaker 1: you time, they're gonna show you love. But when you
- 42:31Speaker 1: have a coach, you have to invest in that time.
- 42:33Speaker 1: And so when I work with people i'm coaching them,
- 42:36Speaker 1: I often have to ask people with showing that I
- 42:38Speaker 1: asked them, can I can? I may have permission to
- 42:40Speaker 1: put my coaching hat on, which means that I'm gonna
- 42:43Speaker 1: talk straight to you. I'm gonna step on your toes
- 42:46Speaker 1: and if you get mad bling yourself because you gave
- 42:48Speaker 1: me permission to put my coach a hat on. But
- 42:50Speaker 1: that but that's what's needed when it comes to tools
- 42:52Speaker 1: like LinkedIn, because you never get a second chance to
- 42:55Speaker 1: make a first impression and a lot of people just
- 42:58Speaker 1: don't know what they don't know. And that's in portant
- 43:00Speaker 1: for you to say that because of the fact that
- 43:03Speaker 1: I've been called arrogant, I've been called nor at all,
- 43:05Speaker 1: I've been called all those terms of trying to let
- 43:09Speaker 1: everybody know, Okay, this is if you asked me for advice,
- 43:13Speaker 1: You asked me to come in here and run this operation.
- 43:16Speaker 1: You've asked me to produce this and hold your budget
- 43:18Speaker 1: in line. But suddenly your your staff calling me arrogant,
- 43:22Speaker 1: your staff calling me a nor it all because a
- 43:25Speaker 1: lot of people understand is that who you have around
- 43:28Speaker 1: you can hold you back, who you have around you
- 43:31Speaker 1: can stop you from your next opportunity. And so just
- 43:34Speaker 1: because they work for you, just because they show up
- 43:36Speaker 1: all time, don't mean they have the best interests of
- 43:40Speaker 1: your ultimate goal at heart. And that leads me back
- 43:43Speaker 1: to the whole process of LinkedIn content. What is off limits?
- 43:49Speaker 1: Oh content? What? What should people avoid doing? You know,
- 43:52Speaker 1: I'm starting to see a lot of interesting things on
- 43:55Speaker 1: on on LinkedIn, people basically lately asking for jobs, people
- 44:00Speaker 1: blatantly or promoting themselves. What is? What is? What? What
- 44:05Speaker 1: lines of And I'm gonna go a little deeper after
- 44:07Speaker 1: you answer this question about what happens when you go
- 44:09Speaker 1: on linked in? What what are the oftenest area for
- 44:12Speaker 1: content on LinkedIn? So I would say, I would say,
- 44:16Speaker 1: you know, definitely, definitely promote yourself, but promote yourself in
- 44:21Speaker 1: the context of the value you bring to the tape.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Thank you. I'm oftentimes job seekers are looking for jobs
- 44:28Speaker 1: and they help post how they sailed out three three
- 44:32Speaker 1: hundred applications or sent in things on different job boards,
- 44:38Speaker 1: and I always respond to them, and I say, listen,
- 44:40Speaker 1: stop looking for a job and start finding problems to solve.
- 44:45Speaker 1: So I am i saying don't look for a job now.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I'm not saying that. I'm saying, take your focus from
- 44:49Speaker 1: finding a job and put your focus on finding people
- 44:53Speaker 1: who have problems that you can solve. So, and one
- 44:55Speaker 1: of the things that the content is not posting your problems.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Don't don't post what's going wrong? Post what you need
- 45:02Speaker 1: help with solving. So, so post the problem that you
- 45:06Speaker 1: have as it pertains to you know, I need help
- 45:09Speaker 1: with communication, or is anyone here that can help me
- 45:13Speaker 1: enhance my interview skills. But instead most people are posting
- 45:16Speaker 1: about this this recruiter doesn't want to give me a shot,
- 45:19Speaker 1: or this person doesn't want to help me. That that
- 45:21Speaker 1: that's gonna fall on deaf ears. But if you focus
- 45:24Speaker 1: on asking the right questions, like what's the what are
- 45:27Speaker 1: the top ten questions that interviewers ask in an interview.
- 45:31Speaker 1: If you throw those out, people are gonna want to
- 45:33Speaker 1: help you left and right because they've been through the situation.
- 45:36Speaker 1: And you want to be able to create a community
- 45:39Speaker 1: of supporters who can teach you what you need to know,
- 45:42Speaker 1: which will put you in the right place. Another thing is,
- 45:44Speaker 1: obviously people talk about avoiding politics and and UH and religion.
- 45:49Speaker 1: It's kind of tough to do nowadays. I mean sometimes
- 45:52Speaker 1: these social media sites will put that stuff up there
- 45:54Speaker 1: and people post their opinions. But I think if you
- 45:56Speaker 1: want to if you want to stand out and let
- 45:58Speaker 1: your brand shine, focus on what you bring to the table,
- 46:02Speaker 1: or focus on you know what challenges you're facing, and
- 46:06Speaker 1: look for solutions or people you know people that can
- 46:08Speaker 1: help you with those solutions. And the solution is the
- 46:11Speaker 1: most important. Is that put you in a position to win,
- 46:14Speaker 1: putting in a position to provide you and information that
- 46:17Speaker 1: is going to get to the next of them. Again,
- 46:18Speaker 1: before we get out of here, please Robert, tell everybody
- 46:21Speaker 1: how they can connect with you. Tell everybody you know,
- 46:24Speaker 1: what is your basic purpose or being on this show.

- 47:39Speaker 1: it's just a random and random invitation, but they have
- 47:43Speaker 1: to send a personalized message to everybody they connect to.
- 47:46Speaker 1: And for those who are listening, send me a personalized

- 50:35Speaker 1: can get interest rates of one point seven one point

- 51:08Speaker 1: My next test is the founder rise. There's R Y
- 51:11Speaker 1: s C rise, R I s C. That's how naunciated

- 51:35Speaker 1: the smoothest pictures on LinkedIn. I appreciate that. I appreciate that.
- 51:42Speaker 1: But we met we rany to teach you that Moby right,
- 51:44Speaker 1: moby right. Absolutely, you are all the title spitting fire there. Man. Well,
- 51:50Speaker 1: you know the thing about it, and I appreciate you
- 51:52Speaker 1: saying that, Ja, And it's a passion and the thing
- 51:54Speaker 1: about me, J. And that's why I appreciate the compliment
- 51:57Speaker 1: is that what I try to do when I started
- 51:59Speaker 1: talking to people is let everybody know I'm gonna speak
- 52:02Speaker 1: the truth. So if you ask me, I'm gonna tell
- 52:05Speaker 1: you how I failed. And if you talk to me,
- 52:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you how I succeeded, because both stories
- 52:11Speaker 1: have to be told. And what what what? What damages
- 52:15Speaker 1: the growth of so many people. They only hear the
- 52:18Speaker 1: success stories and you know, and building your platform Arise
- 52:23Speaker 1: And we were just talking and then you know, I'm
- 52:26Speaker 1: a guy. I actually listen to people when they talk.
- 52:28Speaker 1: And you start telling me about this. A lot of people,
- 52:30Speaker 1: don't you know what I'm saying that they just watching
- 52:35Speaker 1: your lips move, ain't ain't here in the word, looking
- 52:37Speaker 1: at the person behind you, looking at the person behind you,
- 52:40Speaker 1: and listen to nothing. They got that little blank staff.
- 52:43Speaker 1: He'd be going him listen to me to talk. That's
- 52:47Speaker 1: what they do. They're waiting to talk right right and
- 52:51Speaker 1: so and so when you told me about your program.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Please let's get everybody super interested right now on money
- 52:57Speaker 1: making a conversation on my Facebook page. There's also be
- 53:00Speaker 1: played on my podcast which is on our Heart Radio.
- 53:03Speaker 1: And you heard live in Houston, Texas on kl f
- 53:07Speaker 1: L tell us about Rise absolutely well. Before I get
- 53:11Speaker 1: started out to say much love and prayers to the
- 53:14Speaker 1: victims in Las Vegas, man, I have some you know,
- 53:17Speaker 1: prayers out to them, but you know, to give you
- 53:19Speaker 1: a little bit of insight about Rise man is uh
- 53:22Speaker 1: where video on demand company targeted at the urban millennial market. Man,
- 53:27Speaker 1: So we'd like to call ourselves Netflix with swags and
- 53:32Speaker 1: uh and basically what we do, Wasteally, what we do
- 53:34Speaker 1: is we go and find creators, content creators who are
- 53:37Speaker 1: creating dynamic content and we make it available on our
- 53:41Speaker 1: platform and it's a subscription based platform, and really try
- 53:44Speaker 1: to focus on content that connects with that multicultural millennial audience. Man.
- 53:49Speaker 1: And so uh so that's in essence what we do, man.
- 53:51Speaker 1: We we like to amplify the voice of Erman creators.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Now what that mean is saying now you said a
- 53:57Speaker 1: lot real quick. Now this actually just I've just asked
- 54:00Speaker 1: you this, Jake, now because you said millennial. So so
- 54:03Speaker 1: you tell me grown people like that they can't even
- 54:05Speaker 1: upload on your site. Oh no, anybody can upload that
- 54:09Speaker 1: has stories that connect with with the urban because you
- 54:12Speaker 1: because you lost a lot of people right there with
- 54:15Speaker 1: my owner. This ain't this ain't hip hop America. You know,
- 54:18Speaker 1: this ain't the young flyve show. You know what I'm
- 54:21Speaker 1: saying on t RM. I'll just let you know what
- 54:23Speaker 1: you said when you said millennial. There's a lot of people.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Oh man, I'm fitted. It's not just for millennials, man,
- 54:34Speaker 1: but it's for people that that love, um, you know,
- 54:37Speaker 1: the urban culture. When I say urban, I don't mean
- 54:39Speaker 1: hip hop. I mean anything that connects with the with
- 54:43Speaker 1: the African American or the minority audience. Man that we
- 54:49Speaker 1: go see. I had to reel you back because sometimes
- 54:51Speaker 1: I'll tell you something, Jay, you could out there start
- 54:53Speaker 1: talking to your fan. You can run off half your room.
- 55:00Speaker 1: I can't let you do that because because when I
- 55:03Speaker 1: met you your platform, I felt there was a need
- 55:06Speaker 1: and like I said, no, this is about me, j
- 55:08Speaker 1: this is this will not be the only time you
- 55:10Speaker 1: will be on my show. This is a marketing opportunity
- 55:14Speaker 1: that I'm providing to people to hear about your brain.
- 55:18Speaker 1: And like I said, it's gonna be replayed on my ipode,
- 55:20Speaker 1: on my my podcast, on our Heart Radio, It'll be
- 55:24Speaker 1: posted on my Money Making Conversations Facebook page for because
- 55:27Speaker 1: I gotta keep selling people and the way that's the
- 55:30Speaker 1: only way you're gonna win. Because people are such disbelievers
- 55:33Speaker 1: and people are basically lazy in general when it comes
- 55:36Speaker 1: to trying to be successful. That's why. That's why and
- 55:40Speaker 1: I would say that correctly. What I said, that's why
- 55:42Speaker 1: McDonald's keeps advertising, That's what Target keeps advertising. That's what
- 55:47Speaker 1: if you Chick fil A keeps advertis why you know
- 55:49Speaker 1: about that cow. If they stop advertising about that cow,
- 55:55Speaker 1: sales will drop. Absolutely, they will. Absolutely. It's so this
- 56:00Speaker 1: is like my whole thing. That's why I created Monimaking Conversation,
- 56:03Speaker 1: which is another extension of the Neighborhood Awards where I
- 56:05Speaker 1: supported small businesses, is to let people know, listen to
- 56:09Speaker 1: this opportunity. He's a small business, but he's providing the
- 56:12Speaker 1: stream that you don't have right now. And my correct
- 56:15Speaker 1: is saying that this dream that you're providing is a
- 56:17Speaker 1: rare opportunity for content creators in the urban platform to
- 56:23Speaker 1: be able to upload their shows on your platform. Correct
- 56:27Speaker 1: and and and monetize it. And I'll tell you resign.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Really really, where it came about is man, we looked
- 56:32Speaker 1: at the success of platforms like Netflix and and like Hulu,
- 56:36Speaker 1: and obviously these are these are you know, well known platforms,
- 56:40Speaker 1: international platforms that are extremely successful. But when you look
- 56:44Speaker 1: at those platforms, less than one percent of the original programming,
- 56:48Speaker 1: which are the greatest driver of growth for those platforms,
- 56:51Speaker 1: less than one percent of the original programming was created
- 56:54Speaker 1: by by by minority filmmakers. And so I started coming
- 56:58Speaker 1: across all of these my noority filmmakers were shining. You're
- 57:01Speaker 1: you're familiar with that industry because you have all these
- 57:05Speaker 1: film festivals. They go out there, these films go there
- 57:07Speaker 1: and they just die. They just die. Award winning content,
- 57:11Speaker 1: you know, Rashaun, award winning content that is in their
- 57:15Speaker 1: winning awards and these film festivals and you never see
- 57:18Speaker 1: this content. And for these content creators man other than
- 57:21Speaker 1: these film festivals and others than YouTube, which you know
- 57:24Speaker 1: sometimes they can't make, you know, a significant amount of
- 57:27Speaker 1: money from I said, man, we have to create a
- 57:29Speaker 1: platform for you, for you all to be able to
- 57:31Speaker 1: monetize this content and be able to get this content
- 57:34Speaker 1: out there to the audiences that will connect with it.
- 57:37Speaker 1: And that that is the that is the reason that
- 57:40Speaker 1: we launched this this platform and understanding media, Okay, And
- 57:43Speaker 1: that's the reason you're on this show because because you'd,
- 57:47Speaker 1: like said, you know that you have to spread the
- 57:49Speaker 1: word and the more people and more quality people you
- 57:53Speaker 1: communicate with, because it's all about quality. Because no, this
- 57:55Speaker 1: is about Jay he's just not uploading junk on his network. No, no,
- 58:00Speaker 1: not at all. Can you give us some parameters on
- 58:03Speaker 1: exactly how you know, how this one get the content
- 58:06Speaker 1: to you? Is it a certain length? Give us a parameters? Well, so,
- 58:12Speaker 1: so here's the thing, man. We we focus on creators
- 58:15Speaker 1: that are are creating great content. And it could be
- 58:18Speaker 1: a number of different things. So we have everything from uh,
- 58:20Speaker 1: from web series on there to feature films, two documentaries. Uh.
- 58:25Speaker 1: You know, there is a process of selection process and
- 58:29Speaker 1: because because again you know, we're not just looking for
- 58:32Speaker 1: anything and everything that could go on YouTube. We really
- 58:35Speaker 1: want to make sure that we focus on on quality content.
- 58:38Speaker 1: So so you know, those those are something we definitely
- 58:41Speaker 1: have a process. And so they can go to on
- 58:43Speaker 1: the Rise dot com and and rises with the Y
- 58:46Speaker 1: and they can you know, certainly learn more about what
- 58:49Speaker 1: it is that we do learn more about the process.
- 58:52Speaker 1: But it's not anything and everything because the audience doesn't
- 58:54Speaker 1: want to see anything and everything and and and just
- 58:57Speaker 1: because we're targetting a minority audience doesn't mean that our
- 59:00Speaker 1: quality is going to be any less than what you
- 59:02Speaker 1: would expect. Is that what happens people just think that
- 59:06Speaker 1: you know, it's black as cheap, it's poorly produced, there's
- 59:09Speaker 1: no standards. That's what That's what annoyed me the most,
- 59:12Speaker 1: man about about you know, about being black, you know,
- 59:16Speaker 1: because being African American, because of the fact that it
- 59:20Speaker 1: is the process. You know, sometimes your add rage can
- 59:23Speaker 1: be cheaper. People think all that's some junk over there.
- 59:27Speaker 1: They don't know what they're doing. Things like that. That's
- 59:29Speaker 1: why when I met you, it was it was a
- 59:31Speaker 1: prioritist for me, because I know, I've been in the
- 59:34Speaker 1: television industry and fortunately in the movie industry as well,
- 59:37Speaker 1: all the books, radio, and I know I fought that battle, man,
- 59:41Speaker 1: and I will continue to fight that battle to say
- 59:44Speaker 1: my work, my productions are the same quality as a
- 59:49Speaker 1: non African American project exactly. And and everything that we do.
- 59:55Speaker 1: We've been in the media business for for about six years,
- 59:57Speaker 1: and out of the gate, we came with the best
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: level of quality that we could because we certainly wanted
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: to combat that. And and I come, I come across
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: all these creators that are creating great content. Man. But
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: they take these ideas, and they take these concepts, they
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: don't necessarily have the relationships they take them to Hollywood.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: If they can even get those those kind of connections,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: and you know, if they can even get there, and
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: and nobody gives them an opportunity if they don't have
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: a big name, they don't they aren't giving that opportunity.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: And so that's what I love. That's why I love
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: what we do with Rising, and uh, I'm looking forward
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: to even greater things with us as we get into
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: original content production of our own. Um, you know, so
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: excited about where we're going with it now, you know
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: under like with Netflix, I'm a Netflix fan. Okay, I
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: don't have Hulu, I don't have Amazon. Netflix got not
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: money right now? Okay, they got they got the Marvel series,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you know, you know they got you know, they got Nackos.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I love Nackos, Nockles, the new season, they got Stranger
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Things and things. But all these are categorized, you know
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So so when they come to Rise, uh,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: you is every because that's the medio of streaming. Because
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: streaming allows the entrepreneurs like you to exist because you're
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: not really trying to program twenty four hours a day
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: to day, like you're providing content. You go over there,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: you click on the common, you click on the heart,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: you click on the side fire. Is this separated like
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: that on Rise? Yeah, Yeah, it's absolutely. It's separated into categories.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: It's separated into uh, you know, in genres, whether you're
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: looking for a series, whether you're looking for a short.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Which is an opportunity that that we've been able to
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: capitalize on um is being able to bring shorts onto
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: the platform. So so I mean it is no different
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: than an experience that you would have, including the quality
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: of the technology. It is no difference than an experience
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: that you would have at Netflix. Uh, it's just that
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: the content is created by minority filmmakers and the stories
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: are going to connect with the minority. Order. Well, I'm
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: something Jay Jackson Senior. If you have a moment, I'm
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: going to break. I want to bring it back to
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: we can wrap up. And I'm enjoying this conversation because
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: of the fact that I'm providing information that and also
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: created a relationship with you, because you know this best
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: lost is about relationship and if I can, I know,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: and I'm gonna share a couple of stories on the
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: other side that let people know how you gotta do
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: it this way, you gotta be able to sit down
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: with individuals like Jay. They are rules that he has
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: even at his level. Now, if you don't abate the
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: rules he has a hit level, you're never making the Netflix,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: You're never making the ABC. He is like a he's
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: like the farming system to get it right. So that's
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: why you just can't bring no sloppy mess over there
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: and get mad when he tells you know, yeah, be
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: looking at be looking at you like you don't know
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: what you're talking about. But here's the thing side. We'll
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: work with you now, we'll we'll work with you right
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: right not you understand that protest, which you might not
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: get with some of the other platforms, and so we
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: want you to get there. We want to be at
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: that place to help you. I like that, did you
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: hear what? Did you hear? What he said? Here? Work
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: with you. But he won't fight with you though. That's
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: a big difference. What j is not gonna do is
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: fight with you. And if you give you a note
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: for change and you come back with the same product,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: that relationship is gonna go a little sideways right there,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: because you're right there, he thought he talking to a
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: very ignorant person. You will be racked right back with
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: more rises R Y s C. I'm loving this, Jay,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I hope you're loving it too. Were listening to money
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: making Conversations. Keep your ears up, everybody, because we spread
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: some news. Boy cool, welcome back to money making conversations.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: This show is on eight that's in Houston, Texas, on
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: your AM dial. Next this very mark, We're gonna go
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: on FL, sir. That's a little hidden secret, but we're
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: going up on FL. I'm taking over Houston, y'all because
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: I've been called the black Mole just a small entrepreneurship,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: and I'm holding onto that title. We've had my man
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Rick Jenkins from SBA Disaster Assistance Office on air, my
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: man Drawn Love from the Texas Black Expo been on
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: the air, and then my man Robert A. Y Be
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: connection as Robert young Blood foremost authority and linked in
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: social media trainee and connections. But now I got my
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: man Jay Jackson met this young man at Moby he
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: as he said, I was on the stage spitting five
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: five the building what I'm trying to do with this show?
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: And uh, you know, because you know a post I
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: love posting on LinkedIn and I saw you you you
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: share the post about me and telling everybody to tune in,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: and I appreciate that. But that's how relationships grow, that's
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: how you that's how you spread the word, and that's
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: how it's important about your brand. So so this whole break,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: I just really want to slow it down a little
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: bit and let everybody explain to everybody again what exact
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: the is rise a's R Y s E. Okay, so
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: I'll slow it down. Um, we're a video on demand service.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Um that is targeted that that that that urban audience.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: So so if you think about what Netflix is, we
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: we focus on urban audiences. We were like, we're a
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: MR of BT meets Netflix. That's that's the best way.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: But but their shows, well take them a hard time
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: getting on BT, but they can come to rise R
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: y s C and you work with them, get the
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: standards to your network standards and put them on that correct.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely. And so if there are content creators out
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: there that are creating content that are struggling with distribution
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: of their content and looking for ways to to monetize
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: their content, um, those are the top type of people
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: that we look for. We we we you know, sour
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: film festivals all across the nation in search of everything
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: from web series to documentaries to feature films. Too short. Um,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: and if it if it's targets an urban audience, then
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: then we wanted on our platform and you know, to
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: meet certain quality for awesome. Now, let me ask you this.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: You're an entrepreneur. It's not always easy to be an entrepreneur.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Know what keeps you going? My friends? Man? What keeps
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: me going? Man? Is passion? Man, I tell you I'm
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: driven by purpose. I I listened to your other callers
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: and they were talking about the why and talking about passion.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: And I'm like you, ra Sean I I one of
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: my pet peeves is when I see people who are
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: settling right, who are not happy, and and they have
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: the power. Man, they have the power to take control
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: of their life, but they don't do it. And so
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: I said, you know, everything that we've I've ever done
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: and been an entrepreneur for a long time rises in
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: our first venture. Um. But it's always been about empowering,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: providing and empowering resource, much like you're doing with your
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: radio show that can say hey, here's an opportunity right
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: to take what you do or what you have a
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: passion for doing what you have a talent for doing.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: And uh, and we can help you turn it into
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: something that you can make, you know, make a lot
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: of money with and uh and enjoy life. Now, how
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: do you promote Rise? How? What is the what are
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: the channels? You know? You know, it's a funny thing
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: about it that that's out there, like you know, Facebook
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: getself promoted? You know, is your Twitter? Netflix? You get
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: a remote? Netflix sitting on there. It's you're sitting right there,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: you know, I HBO ain't sitting there, Cinemax ain't sitting
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: there for Netflix, and sitting on my remote for my
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: Sony TV I just bought on my Samsung TV. Right
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: It's just sitting right there. So Netflix a getting promoted
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: right there. We shot in our studio. It says Netflix
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: right there. That's the craziest thing I've ever seen in
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: my life. They can't help up win, No, yeah, absolutely,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: and and and that's fine, And that's fine because we
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: focus on promoting to where our audience is at. And
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: so um we have the app available to Rise app
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: is available in you know, for Apple, for Android, for Amazon,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: and for Windows devices. So they can certainly download the
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Rise app by just saying, you know, typing in going
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: to their their app store is typing in Rise app
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: r y s E. We're available online. You can go
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: to on the Rise dot com and that will take
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: you to our multimedia platform. You can access Rise TV
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: from there. So uh and and actually we're in the
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: process of developing in Roadku app. So while we might
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: not have our logo on the remote, uh, if an
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: individual has the Roku device that you know curates a
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: lot of different streaming platform they can go right there
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: in Our app will will be available in the next
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: couple of months. Because yeah, I'm changing. I'm a technology guy,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: you know, like I have slain Box. I've been doing
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: by for everybody knew what sling was, you know, five years.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: I've because we're on the road. You never home TV,
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: you know, so I slam box is the device that
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: allows you to don't care where you're in the world,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: as long as you have WiFi internet, you connect to
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: your cable box at your house and whatever your service
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: is channels or uh, subscriptions you have on your cable
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: service at your home, you can see it. I've seen
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: it in pairs. I watched TV Jamaica. I watched TV
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: in Canada, I watched TV in Africa. That's what slam
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: box is. I'm just saying these things that what he's
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: talking about, it is not going away, that's all. This
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: is not going away. This is the way and and
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: and and what what bothers me is that everybody like
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: this is a young thing. Okay, no, no, no no. Eventually,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: I an I did run into a lady. I was
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: in New York and she took a picture of me,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: and she had a flip phone. Kind of scared me
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: because because she handed it to a young guy and
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: he looked at it, like, what's gonna do with this?
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: She said, she said, young man, you know the right
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: there when I used to word young man, you know,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: an old person had that flip phone. Now right now.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: She ain't gonna be a rise customer that right now, bro, No,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: not at all. She is knock maybe not right away
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: or no no no, no no no. Because she was
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: in love and I looked at and asked her. I
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: asked us, as ma'am, you know this flip phone right
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: here outdated. I'm not getting me to this. As soon
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: as you went that, I'm not. When I learned ja
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: don't argue with all the people they're closed to do.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: They're close to the end. You know, I'm saying, it's
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: funny that you said that, because even when we came
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: about this whole concept and begin before we begin building
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: this man, we have been a media company for years,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: and I think I put a magazine in your hand
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: when I was absolutely nice magazine. Then I want to
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: be in you know what I'm saying. So, so here's
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: the thing. I had about twelve writers, all under the
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: age that wrote for me. And one day I signed
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: the article to one of the writers to cover something
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: that was coming on on traditional television and she said
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: to me, Jay, well I don't I don't have cable.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: And I was blown away. This is several years ago now,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: and she sause, well, I I streamed, said I stream
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: everything you know online. And so I went and asked
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: the other eleven writers, all of them under sean, and
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: only two of them even on the TV, and only
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: one of them had cable out of all twelve of them.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: And I said, oh, clearly, this is where the future
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: is at. This is whether that is what caused us
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: the pivot into that direction and begin building out this platform.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: And building out this farm of rise because it is
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: it is a phenomenal because I know that you know
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: when the and then we're talking to technology, because we're
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: all always tell people the iPhone is only eight years
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: old because Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy when she was
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: running against President of Barack Obama on her iPhone. So
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: it's only eight years old, okay, a little bit over
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: eight years old, okay. And so with that being said,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: it's it's important to people understand that if first you
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: had the iPads, you know, an iPads, we will will
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: put out there. They were popular because people wanted to
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: look at something that was comfortable to their television. Said okay,
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: but now you know you watch TV on your phone now,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: and so you what you stream on your phone, and
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: so because of that, the game has changed. Officially. It
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: means that what we're talking about streaming and and and
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: and streaming and watching your television and watching movies and
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: all these things, the way of life is on your phone,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: and it's not and it's only gonna get smaller and
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: eventually you're gonna have glasses that you're gonna just put
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: on your on your on your head and watch TV
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: right through these little glasses that's called virtual TV and
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: all that's coming. And so, so what what are the
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: goals for you in the next few years? Are you
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: gonna try to get a venture capital is involved? What's
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: the goal here because you owned something and also tell
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: people how they can submit their are content to you. Okay, absolutely.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: So it's funny that you asked me about the goals
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: because we launched um in our in vata format and
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: that that is when you're launching a test phase, and
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: we shattered the numbers the projections that we that we anticipated,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: and so we said, okay, we know we have something
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: here that the audience is hungry for. We know one
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: thing we do know is that people of color watch
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: more content than than anybody else, right, So so we
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: know that we got an audience that is looking for
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: content that they can relate to. And so next for
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: us is we're in We just entered a seed round
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: of funding for us. So now we're in that capital
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: raising fide. We're feeding with with angel investors because we
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: wanted to be right. We don't want to trickle this
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: thing out and it be nickel and dying the whole way.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: We want to launch and in its absolutely and then
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: also just the quality, even more content, being able to
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: buy even more content. I mean to know, Netflix spends
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: millions on content, and we don't necessarily know you have
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: the million subsis, but we certainly want to make sure
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: that content creators are getting paid and uh, in the
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: next couple of years, we look to build our our
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: subscriber base, and we've looked to build that that that
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: subscriber base up and and become a household name among
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: our community, very much like Netflix is among I want
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: to appreciate this fantastic and interview. By the way, you
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: know you have a friend, do me a favor. Let's
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: get a banner over so we can posted on money
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: making conversations so we can promote what you're doing over
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: rise h. Like I said, my program directors is Adel Henderson,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Samantha Taylor haunts all of my small business guests that
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: we put on the show. It's it's just a great opportunity.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: And I feel that what you're doing it's only gonna build.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: But it's only gonna build because you're creating relationships. And
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: I feel I'm one of the relationships that you can
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: count on. Okay, I appreciate that I appreciate. They can
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: visit us that on the Rise with the Hye on
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: the Rise dot M and that's where they can get
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: way more information. Cool. We've been on the phone with
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: the File the creator multimedia platform Rise as R y
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: S C. J. Jackson C. Thank you Jay for carling
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: on money making conversations than we've been back with more.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: My man Bitley Evans, the creator Martin the Creative Jay
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Fox Show. He gave him my five first shot. That's
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: a true executive producer on a major sitcom back in
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: the day. That's why I'm standing there because of bit Live.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: I can tell you that Loud. I'm gonna tell him
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: that when he called in to we've been back with
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: more money main conversation. If you're feeling the energy I'm
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: trying to give you the opportunity I'm trying to give
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: you successful, then you're listening to the right show. Right back,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: all right, last break, last half hour the show. Ruean McDonald,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: I'm your host on my making a conversation. My next
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: guest puts a spile on my face. He's played a
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: major role in my career in entertainment. Be honest with
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: you're gonna say that right up front. I can honestly
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: tell you that he trusted me and gave me an
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: opportunity to co executive produce on his hit Damie Fox
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: sitcom when he was on the w B, I showed
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: that he created an executive produced himself. He currently helms, helms,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: or runs or producers three TV sitcoms currently airing on
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: Bounce TV. He is the creative the comedy's family Time
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: in the Cut and Grown Folks. That's his newest show.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Please Walk from the Money Making Conversations Bentley, Kyle Evans,
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Hey Benley. Then I let you out. Then I let
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: you out. Hey man, you laid it out perfect and
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: I still shust you. And I'm so proud of you, man,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: so proud of your accomplishments. Well, thank you man. You
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: know I saw your studio when I came out there.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: You invited me out there to the studio Northfield Rights, California,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: Nor three, California, which is just north of the valley
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: in Los Angeles, California. And the thing about it is
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: that I wanted to first of all, I want to
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: let you know that everything you do that you're doing
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: right now with your sitcoms, please give me any siss
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: a real, any banners and that the days that the
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: shows come on, and I will tell you they will
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: be posted on my money making conversation platform. That's why
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: I designed this show to give give people that I
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: know in this business who who just needs extra opportunity
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: to get their word out. You know, you bounces doing
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: their job, but I know you need other people to
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: see it, and eventually things become viral and you get
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: hit shows. And that's the whole process. It isn't it
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: bent like it really is, man, And I will do
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: just that. I appreciate I appreciate you giving me that
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: opportunity to to you know, share my platform on your platform.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: So it is exactly the way to do it. And
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: you know, it's it's just a new paradigm. It's a
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: new new time in this entertainment game where we can
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: do that and we need that social media push and
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: that's what that's what you know a lot of people say,
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: you know, my life is really great from what I'm
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: talking about Defences. This show is broadcasting live in Houston, Texas.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: It will be heard again on my Heart Radio podcast
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: and I'm also broadcasting on my Facebook page on money
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: making conversation. So those are mediums. And I'm about to
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: pick up another station podcast and Washington d C. Because
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: of the growth of the show, because of the word
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: of trying to get out and this is about small entrepreneurship,
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: and that's what you do. You're an entrepreneur and you
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: started real earlier. This this is where I really got
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: you on the show, Bndley, because you know, you knew
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: early on my man, this is what you want to do.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: How does that operate your you know, you know, I
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: really try to wrap my head around people who figured
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: out so young. How how I mean? You know, it's
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: interesting because I, like a lot of other people in
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: the entertainment industry, you know, we you know, you're infatuated
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: the idea of getting popular and showing your face through
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: the acting medium. And you know, I realized I was
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: you funny by the way. He's funny now. But just
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: let you know, this is a very entertaining executive producer
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: that there's a lot of a lot of out they're
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: just just tied. But you actually be laughing so hard
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: in the writer's room with You're going he paid me
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: for this, He paid me for this? Okay, cool? How
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: about that, man. I mean, I love being I love
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: keeping it fun. Man. The cats that I learned from
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: we're just the funniest people. Robert telling who you and
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: I both have in common, and every wins and and
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: and Martin Lawrence and those guys that you know, it's
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: just it keeps it fun. And I knew early on
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: that I wanted to be behind the scenes, but I
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: was always told that that was not necessarily a game
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: that black people could get in. Come on, and and
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: on top of that, you know, my story was a
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: little different because I didn't have the college degree. You Therefore,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: I knew it was gonna be a little more difficult.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: But I knew I wanted to be behind the scenes
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: because I felt like that's where the real money was
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: being made. And that was that was it for me.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: So as soon as I got an opportunity to jump
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: from in front of the camera to writing and producing,
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: which you know, Martin Lawrence gave me a shot at that,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: I immediately jumped at that. And uh and that's that's
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: pretty much my you know, my my little road to
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: getting behind the scenes. Okay, Okay, see now that's why
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: that's why I hate right there, you know, he tried
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: to put it down a little road. Look, the most
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: popular black show other than the Cosby Show, and then
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: here's your black people's Martin. Yeah, you know what. And
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: when we were making I am I telling the truth
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: and my law you are man, We didn't know, we
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: didn't know, we had no idea, man, and the hear'story
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: of black people. You have Cosby, then you have Martin
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: right there. Yeah, man, I mean it's it's man. I
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: don't even know what to say about it because it's it's. Uh.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: It took us all by surprise, but I do I
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: will say that we were all swinging for the fence.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: I mean, Martin gave it everything he had on that floor,
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: and you know, if it wasn't on the page, it
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: wasn't on the stage. So we gave it all we
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: had in that writer's room too, and that and that
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: that that that pretty much. Let let me get a
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: little extra little bump about it. He started as an
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: intern on Hollywood Shuffle. That was Robert Howson breakout movie
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: that he did with the with Keen and Iva Rans.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: You know, that's what and intern really don't get paid.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: That's what always annoyed me about people. They want to
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: get paid to everything they do. You know, they if
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: you don't pay me. And I always tell people that
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: a lot of things you're doing this business to get
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: ahead will not be attached to a check you but
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: the relationship that you create can eventually give you a
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: check and get you get paid, get and get and
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: give you an opportunity to get paid. So that was
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: that's how you really got started. Then on Martin you
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: you came on as a writer. Correct, how I was
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: that relationship? Yeah, man, you know it's I mean, coming
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: into the Martin Show, I mean it was really interesting
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: because we were boys and and uh you know, he
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: kept telling me, you know, mine's a straight shooter, and
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: he said, hey, man, look I got this shot. They
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: want to do this show with me, and I don't
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: know what the show is, but I need you to,
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: uh you know, come come with me and check my voice.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: Check my voice exactly because Steve deal with Steve Harvey,
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: I do exactly what you talk about. You know exactly
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: what it is. So then when he said, uh, I
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: told him, I said, well, look man, I need to
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: be writing the show. He said, yeah, well bet you
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: know I mean no, no, no offense. You know, we active,
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: you know, you know, you know. And I showed him
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: like a body of work that I had working on
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: Stack that nobody had ever seen. And and Martin called
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: me up on a weekend and said, yo, man, I
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: was reading the script you wrote these, And I was like, yeah,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: he goes, You've gotta be my writer. You're you're it.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: I mean, you relate to me, you know me, and
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: I think we can make something happen. And he, man,
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: he went out on a limb man and got me
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: in that game. He took me into a meeting at
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: twentieth Century five and they told him that I had
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: to wait outside. Come on at them that if it
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: was if he didn't come into the room, I wasn't
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: coming into the room. Come on, now, come on, now.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: We don't do that for each other, man, And that's
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: that's the reason we stay down. And he did that
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: for me, and anybody that got something bad to say
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: about money, they need to come to see me, because
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: I'll think him I'm the guy he should take to
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: the fight. I'm telling you something interesting that's a very
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: similar story you know that Steve Harvey did for me
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: on this first TV show with being the boys because
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: Steve and myself j Anthony Brown, and he said, I
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: want you all to write because guess what, when you're
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: an African American person, you get in the writer's room,
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: basically it's gonna be a white writer's room, and they
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: know nothing about you. They know nothing about your culture.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: They may have saw some stand up videos about you,
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: and they go in their room talking about they know
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: who you are, and now they're supposed to write script
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: for your in your voice and they and I remember
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: the ABC the producer UH said that, well, well we'll
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: read some of these scripts and see if we will
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: consider him Steve Win. If they don't do the show,
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: I won't get it back on that plane. That is
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: how I got into business, because he stepped up for
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: me and gave me my shot on ABC, on Me
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: and the Boars, just like Martin Lawrence stepped up for
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: you and gave you your shot. But the difference is
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: you learned the business the way I learned the business.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: That's why you're still successful in the business. That's why
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: you're on the phone today because we're going to talk
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: about that journey. We're about to go to a break
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: and we come back, Billy. I know you have two
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: shows premiering tonight. Correct, Man, Okay, I know why you're
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: on this show. But man, we're here to promote these
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: TV shows now. But I had to tell everybody that
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: your your history, because see, you are a book and
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: you are a motivational guy, because your journey needs to
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: be exposed to everybody who's out there hustling. And it's
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: not a journey that starts overnight. But you have two
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: shows that are gonna start tonight. That's gonna be family time,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: and that's gonna be grown folks tonight on Bounce TV.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: When we come back, he's gonna break everything down. We're
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: gonna also hear about that third show. And you also
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: gonna send me some some banners or some graphics or
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: some sizzle real so I can start promoting this on
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: my Facebook, my Twitter, and my Instagram account today. Is
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: that a deal? Nothing done? Deal. We'll be right back.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: We've been the Evans, my man, Thank you. I'll tell
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: the world, brit the Evers is the reason I'm famous.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: Be right back with more money making conversations. True, Hi,
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: this is ras Sean McDonald's back with money making conversation
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: broadcasting live from Houston, Texas. We can also be heard
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: on podcast as My Heart Radio. Also can be seen
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: on my Facebook page Mighty making conversation. I'm on the
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: phone with a I call him a friend, I call
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: him a mentor call him a guy who looked at
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: me and saw me not for my color, but for
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: my talents, and give me a shot at co executive
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: and co executive. One of the incredible arts comes on
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: at that time, staring a hot talent because he came
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: off that movie. Any given Sunday, Mr Jamie Fox, Now Bentley,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: you just wrapped up in the cut that was on
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: this summer. Correct, that's correct. It ran for thirteen consecutive weeks,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: and uh we did great, great, great numbers for for
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: its uh for its second season, third season, excuse me
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: so removed? You got renewed for the fourth season. Right,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: that's correct, Yes, sir, Yeah, I'm I do my homework bad.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: I I know you know this first time on my show,
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: and you know I'm not Jimmy Fallon or nothing, you know,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: but I do my homework because you'll start. Man, I
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: gotta make sure I sell you like you're supposed to
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: be sold, like a star that you are in the
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: producing business, my friend. So who's starting on in the
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: Cut because I know Dorin Wilson, that's my boy from
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: The Parkers. Yeah, and then you got you got Channel
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: Lawson Kennel who was also on The Parkers, right, and
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: then the very very very funny John Marshall Jones j
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: J J. J. Marshall Jones. This dude is funny from
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: a smart guy. And then of course Rashan you know,
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: and you know a person of Laura Hayes and h
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: Comedian one of the original queens of comedy oh Man.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: And she's killing the thing. She's I mean, she's she's
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: really killing it. So that the ind the Cut series,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: it stars those four and Kalita Smith also from the
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: Bernie Max Show. And now you got like through Kalita
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: out there. Now you know Galita now from the Bernie
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: Mac Show. Now now in in terms of black shows,
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: now I gotta write them. Now it's the Cosby Show,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: is Martin, and then it was the Bernie Max Show.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: That's right, that's right. She played Bernie Max on the
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: that's right, that's right, that's right. So you know the
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: show is it's a fun show. I keep most of
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: my shows kind of kind of small. Uh. We don't
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: need huge casts. We don't need a thousands thats. We're
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: telling good stories and uh, and stories that hopefully will
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: be around for generation. It wasn't it, But that's how
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: sitcom started. We talked about all the way back to
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: I Love Lucy. When that whole multi camera format was stopped,
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: there was only in two rooms. I Love Lucy, that's right,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: the Dick Van Dyke Show, they were only in two rooms,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: the writer's room and their home room. That the living room.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: That was it on the Dick Van Dyke Show. So
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: you just basically going back to what TV was. You
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: always tell people black and white. You had to act
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: and you had to have a story color. You know,
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: they can fool you. That is good, blow up some stuff.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: And so when I saw when I went on your
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: set and I saw that went, then you do a
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: real television to meet because it's all about the content,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: is all about good acting, is all all about delivering
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: entertainment that's relatable. And that's what you're doing over there
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: with your three sitcoms. Correct. That is correct, man, that
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: is correct. I'm trying to do that. The Black Norman leader. Man,
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: I'm trying to come on, come on, come on, normal lives,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: the Jefferson's good time. You got to educate people. You
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: thought them names, they don't know that's that's that's big
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: names right there, and that that's an opportunity to be
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: able to say that. You're trying to control your models,
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: to be able to right now, you've got three of
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: them there on Bounced TV, and you're you're doing it
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: at a budget that allows you to be able to
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: expand your horizons in that genre. Correct, that is correct?
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: That that's correct. You know, Rashane, I spent uh, you know,
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: twenty years in what I thought was show business, uh,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: until I realized that I wasn't in show business at all.
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: I was just in the producing business, in the writing business.
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: But now I'm in show business and I'm selling shows
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: that I own and that I you know, retain a
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: huge go back in on. That's what we're talking about,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: show business and and being in a producing business or
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: a different part of the business. I'm in show business now.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: Finally cool. That's today's October Suton tonight on Bounce TV.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: You have two shows premiere. Let's get to the region
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: we owned the show today. I was saving this build.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: Enough we have family time and then your brand new
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: show Grown Folks will start a fool named g Thing. Now,
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: I don't know how you working with g Thing with
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: his loud self. You know what's so funny, Gary, He's
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: so crazy. G Thing is uh? He is that that
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: that loud mouth, he's that lower park He's what. But
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: he's what Jackie Gleeson was to the Honeymoon. Absolutely. You know,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: He's what Fred Flepstone was to the Flintstone. He's that
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: guy command that respect, absolutely, and he's gonna keep it real. Absolutely.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: He's that blue collar comic that deserved opportunity to get
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: his voice out there. And I was just happy to
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: be the one that gave him that shot. I'm telling
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: you something. I I that's the great thing about my life.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: You know, whether it's whether it's whether it's Karen Hard,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: whether it's Martin with his g Thing, or whether it's
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Jamie Foxx, we we are Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: or Steve Harvey, Jathan Brown. We all came from that
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: pool of talent, and G Thing was one of those
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: ultimate hustlers. Whenever you come to a come to a
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: major watcher. He was warming up the crowd up there, hustling,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: making him laugh. He was always hustling. And you see
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: him in a little movie called Moneyball, and you seem
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: a little movie called disaster Movie because he was always
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: and so for you to give him a shot, the
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: brother could always act. He was always professional. I'm just
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: joking the fact that I know he's loud and he's energetic.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: When I say he's loud, I'm saying that's positive because
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: he's not afraid to lay it out there. And I
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: think to get the funniest moments, you gotta go through
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: that next wall. You gotta be able to push the envelope.
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: And then that energy sells everybody to do the same thing,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: don't you agree? I definitely agree. And I tried not
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: to find tune him, you know, too much, because he
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: is from St. Louis and he does, and I'll tell
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: him to his face. He does like to split a
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: verb every now and then, and I think that's okay
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: because that's who he is and that's who I'm promoting.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: I think that it's okay to be you know, to
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: be that and be funny. But he knows he's a
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: very smart guy, and he knows how to put promote
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: and he has a presence. And that's and that's what
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: I'm trying to sell. Now, he is playing a blue
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: collar character. That so, so he's not saying he's a
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: college professor professor. He's playing a blue collar carrecter. So
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: he is the right to say eight, that's right. He's
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: playing a Scott cat Man. You know what I'm capting.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: When you go to the airport, you're checking in, they
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: always got something cool to say. They're EAGs and and
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: uh and the and the more they performed, the more
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: the bigger the tip is. And that's what I tried
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: to base this around, because I love Scot casts Man.
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: And now now that's the new show that's gonna air
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: right after that. The premieres tonight on Bounce TV. And
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: the show Now, the show's coming back into the sixth season.
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: This is to show that you brought down to the
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Neighborhood Awards in Atlanta a couple of years ago. Correct,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: that's correct. Family Time, Family Time Now, tell us about
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: family Time and tell us why it's been so successful
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: going into his six seasons, which premieres tonight. Family Time
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: as well as grown folks on Vince TV. Tell us
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: what actually, actually, this is the fifth season. We've already
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: been renewed for us. Okay, this is the fifth season,
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: and you already been picked up for Aready's been picked
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: up for six. That's that's the Let me be quiet.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: Just tell us about the show man. It's it's a
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: blessing man. First of all family time stars Omar Gooding
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: and uh Angel Conwell uh and also Jayla Calhoun and
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: my son Benley Kyle Evans Jr. I wonder what you're
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: gonna promote him? Now, Hey, we got we gotta look
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: out for ourselves. And please and please, I'll be remiss
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: if I don't talk about your talented writing sister, Stacy. Absolutely.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: You know Stacy Stacy Evans Morgan. She's been rocking with
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: me for some years. We had never worked together until
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: we started doing this independent thing. And uh, she's you know,
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: she always always comes through for me. I mean, she
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: is a big sister, and but she's very talented. She's
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: probably a much better writer than I am. Just to
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: give her all her credit. But that's right to bring
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: up because I reachinally bringing it up because you know,
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: the Wayne is I always got, you know, like there's
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: a thousand of them. I'm letting you know, you're building
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: your own the Evans. You're feeling the Evans trying. Man,
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: I got my nephew over there whiling out with Nick
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: Cannon Nia Evans, and he's exact producing that show. And
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: we're trying to you know, we're trying to make our
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: make our present self and it's business. You know, we
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: want to I want to see y'all on the cover
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: of Black Enterprise, on the cover of The Evans Evans,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: the real Evans, not the Evans from from Good Time, Mr.
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: Evans and Entertainment. The writers, the producers, changing the game.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: So so Family Time. What makes Family Time We're going
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: into is fifth season, renewed for the sixth seasons on
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: Boss TV premier tonight. Family Time works because it is
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: the if, the if, the depiction of an African American
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: family in the in this new uh this new Millennium,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: it's you know, it's skinny Jeans meets meets the copy shows.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: You know, we're taking a real family issues. I mean
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: this is well a mother and a father they arguing
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: bigger over real things, and the kids, uh, you know,
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: going from living in the hood to moving slightly up
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: the hill from the hood and how and we see
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: how that you know what the difference is between those
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: two experiences. But it's not only what family time. It's
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: not about the four core characters that live in the house.
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: It's all of the outside characters, the family, extended family
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: members that they bring to the house, that bring their
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: drama into their house. These these people won the lottery
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: for a half a million dallars, enough to get them
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: the Beverly Hills, but they was able to get the
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: ball and Hills. But uh, so you know they're up
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: the hill a little bit. They're trying to do better,
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: you know, still a struggle. But like these sister in
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: laws and brother in laws Paula J. Parker and and
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: Tangerine Thomas play Lisa's too, and they're both crazy is
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: I don't know what. And they bring their drama and uh,
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: you know, we've had a lot of guest stars. Lynn
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: Woodfield came in and she plays their mother. And Chris
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: Williams came in and he plays Omar's character, Tony's brother,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: and he's the boushee guy that's married to the white girl.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: So we're you know, we're showing the real deal of
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: what this black family experience is about. And you know
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: we felt like, you know, we were doing it before
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: Black Ish, we were on the air, so we wanted
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: to be that premier black family show. Uh, you know
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: that could be out there in the in the in
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: the electricon somewhere with my man. I want to thank
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: you for coming on my show. You owe me a
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: couple of banners. Now you got it on a couple
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: of banners. Please get him tonight and know that if
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: you have any special premiers contact uh just sending them
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: and Aaliyah could we shine post or could I come
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: on the show and shouted out because I'm gonna support
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: you to the end. Uh this the Evans were building
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: the Evans, the Evans brand. Now start with your son now, Stacy,
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: I haven't know Stacy, you know I know you. This
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: is what money making Conversations. Thank you for giving me
