- 1:35Speaker 1: He pulling so much energy that we we talked, and
- 1:38Speaker 1: we talked those Sunday morning. Then we talked on Sunday
- 1:41Speaker 1: morning because because that's what happened was here's the beauty
- 1:45Speaker 1: of uh, you know, a chef. This is why chef
- 1:48Speaker 1: is successful because he had people around here. They push him,
- 1:52Speaker 1: you know, and they and they out there selling his brand.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So that's the number one key in anybody being successful.
- 1:58Speaker 1: You can't be the only person that believe in you,
- 2:04Speaker 1: you know, you gotta you gotta find other people that
- 2:08Speaker 1: come along and say, hey, man, when you get tired
- 2:10Speaker 1: of shouting, just step aside. My turn and that's that's
- 2:18Speaker 1: the beauty of being successful. And people don't understand that.
- 2:21Speaker 1: That's what they always say. You cannot be successful by yourself.
- 2:24Speaker 1: You cannot lead army by yourself, and you only sold
- 2:27Speaker 1: you with a gun. You gotta have a support group,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and your support group is tremendous. Tell us a little
- 2:34Speaker 1: bit about your support group, because really, what I'm trying
- 2:37Speaker 1: to shape our money making conversations now is let people
- 2:40Speaker 1: hear the truth. Here, the stories, these little antidotes, because
- 2:45Speaker 1: we're all you're being on the show, we're building your brand,
- 2:47Speaker 1: we're promoting, we're extended your brand, and you know, like
- 2:51Speaker 1: every just put this out now every Saturday morning on

- 3:07Speaker 1: treats with it cool and we're gonna you can share it.

- 3:12Speaker 1: so you can follow along. You can download it to
- 3:15Speaker 1: your computer and you can look at it. And because
- 3:18Speaker 1: you know, thanks you for coming up. So you know
- 3:20Speaker 1: we're gonna have to have the the dee fried turkeys,
- 3:23Speaker 1: the dresses, the macro and the chief all that stuff.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So every week start looking Saturday morning, nine am. So
- 3:30Speaker 1: tell everybody about your support group, Chef. I think I
- 3:35Speaker 1: got one of the most amazing teams in the world,
- 3:38Speaker 1: you know, man, I gotta give a bit shout out
- 3:40Speaker 1: to to my my publicist Carlos Carlos scott Um of
- 3:45Speaker 1: Envision Marketing, who, man, we joined forces over a year ago,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and I mean he has been a powerhouse on pushing
- 3:51Speaker 1: me my communication directed me a Lloyd. I mean me
- 3:56Speaker 1: is one of the most aggressive people that I know.
- 3:59Speaker 1: She's determined that she's gonna get in front of somebody,
- 4:02Speaker 1: somebody's gonna see. But she ain't that big shet that
- 4:04Speaker 1: big I'm not saying she's like she's shot like my
- 4:09Speaker 1: man on Game of Throne. But she ain't that much tone.
- 4:14Speaker 1: She got a lot, she got a lot of bugs, man.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And then not to mention, man, my my beautiful wife,
- 4:20Speaker 1: Tina uh Tina wales Man. I mean that she she
- 4:23Speaker 1: stayed on me and make sure that I'm staying on tracking.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And you know how that is. She she trying to
- 4:29Speaker 1: determine if she's gonna be more fight for if she's
- 4:31Speaker 1: gonna manage me man and she all over the place.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And last but not at least I can't forget Mr
- 4:37Speaker 1: Russian McDonald money making conversations. Hey, you man, just just
- 4:41Speaker 1: to think of with you and you believe in anytime
- 4:44Speaker 1: you have people that can see your vision and have
- 4:46Speaker 1: a vision believe, you know, willing to share share you
- 4:49Speaker 1: with the words, it's truly just blessed within the show. Well,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna just tell you is that the beauty of
- 4:57Speaker 1: our relationship. And what I'm just trying to do with
- 4:59Speaker 1: this show is the show tell everybody you can get there,
- 5:04Speaker 1: because other people have got in there. You know. It's
- 5:07Speaker 1: just like you know, there's only one person. It's only
- 5:10Speaker 1: one person that's the very first person at the top
- 5:12Speaker 1: of mountin errors. But other people have followed. Okay, So
- 5:16Speaker 1: so don't be shocked when you're going the store and
- 5:18Speaker 1: you see products on the shelf, you go, how did
- 5:21Speaker 1: that get on the shelf? Well, you need to find out, okay,
- 5:24Speaker 1: because not all these products on the shelves are from
- 5:27Speaker 1: major corporations, you know, you know, they really need to
- 5:30Speaker 1: understand that. And I think that people you know in
- 5:34Speaker 1: your life, you know, you're an African American male, so
- 5:36Speaker 1: you know you weren't born well, as they say, a
- 5:39Speaker 1: silver spoon in your mouth. So everything, Man, I don't
- 5:41Speaker 1: even know if I but now you're big bard. Now
- 5:45Speaker 1: you ate something that you ate, something that you ate,
- 5:47Speaker 1: something that I'm permiss if, I probably eat a lot
- 5:50Speaker 1: of collar greens on my head. So so when you
- 5:53Speaker 1: when you talk about the opportunities to be successful speaking
- 5:57Speaker 1: of yourself personally, what jumps out the most, man, my
- 6:02Speaker 1: chef person is just having the ambition that was still
- 6:05Speaker 1: I mean my father and he was an entrepreneur, my
- 6:08Speaker 1: mother was, and they truly paved the way for me,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and they taught me, regardless of what the circumstances was,
- 6:15Speaker 1: is to dream. And that's what I did. I dream big.
- 6:18Speaker 1: But what I wanted to do was I put a
- 6:20Speaker 1: passion and work behind it. You know, everybody enough saying
- 6:23Speaker 1: the truth fake but that works is useless. And I
- 6:26Speaker 1: created a vision and a road mouth for myself. And
- 6:29Speaker 1: I was determined I was gonna go further than my surroundings.
- 6:32Speaker 1: When I told you, I said, man, I come come
- 6:34Speaker 1: from a small down The posticulation I was always five
- 6:37Speaker 1: thousands of people, but It wasn't about where I was living.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It was about where I wanted to go. And that
- 6:42Speaker 1: was part of my journey. And and and going out
- 6:46Speaker 1: and lunch and companies, man, and and I lunched. I
- 6:50Speaker 1: lunched my first restaurant. I was sixteen years older, son,
- 6:53Speaker 1: and the thing and the thing was munched it because
- 6:57Speaker 1: I wanted to buy a car going into my scene
- 7:00Speaker 1: in school. And my father taught me how to cook.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Man and that's what started it all, man, and so
- 7:07Speaker 1: so so now here's the thing about it. Okay, there's
- 7:12Speaker 1: a lot of people out there. I have a talent
- 7:14Speaker 1: of a young nephew who has a big six barbecue
- 7:17Speaker 1: is the food truck in Houston, Texas. He makes his
- 7:20Speaker 1: own sausage. Just talented and and really it's really interesting, man,
- 7:24Speaker 1: because what this is just a this is just a
- 7:27Speaker 1: basic question because his bobye que does take taste different. Well,
- 7:32Speaker 1: that's a different mood his sausage, Like he's real tips.
- 7:37Speaker 1: What what separates that? I gotta just ask you, as
- 7:41Speaker 1: a chef, how how does you know? Because there are
- 7:44Speaker 1: a lot of restaurants. Are you walk a different restaurant
- 7:46Speaker 1: they got the best shrimp? You go? Who the bad cook.
- 7:49Speaker 1: This is terrible exactly, And look who made that corn bread?
- 7:55Speaker 1: And you can taste the meal. You know what I'm
- 7:57Speaker 1: saying exactly. You know, it is not a cliche when
- 8:01Speaker 1: people say that I'm cooking with love and from the heart.
- 8:05Speaker 1: It still is all about how you're feeling and what
- 8:09Speaker 1: you put into it. You know, whatever whatever it is
- 8:12Speaker 1: that you love to do in life, if you're doing
- 8:15Speaker 1: it for the love of it. My thing is when
- 8:17Speaker 1: I cooking like the brother you're talking about, with the
- 8:19Speaker 1: sauceags and the sauces, I can imagine that when we cook,
- 8:23Speaker 1: we're not cooking for ourself. We're cooking for you. And
- 8:27Speaker 1: that's the thing. I treat every meal as if it's
- 8:29Speaker 1: my last meal, the same way when they say people
- 8:32Speaker 1: who in the show, they treat every show and differs
- 8:35Speaker 1: the last show. And you put it all out there. Man,
- 8:37Speaker 1: everything that I do, I'm doing it because I get
- 8:40Speaker 1: the pleasure out of seeing your reaction on how you
- 8:43Speaker 1: love and it is. It is about a memo. Ship you.
- 8:46Speaker 1: You can't do it. And I tell people when I
- 8:48Speaker 1: started off in this business, I just start off because
- 8:52Speaker 1: I I thought I was gonna be a millionaire's gonna
- 8:54Speaker 1: be successful. I started I because I love what I
- 8:57Speaker 1: do and I love making people be and that's what
- 9:01Speaker 1: it was about. So with that being said, who you
- 9:05Speaker 1: mentioned your father, and then you mentioned your wife. Who
- 9:08Speaker 1: you know your part time manager? You mentioned Mia, and
- 9:12Speaker 1: then you mentioned Carlos. And then when you go out there,
- 9:15Speaker 1: the fans though, what your fans? What do? What? What?
- 9:20Speaker 1: What is your responsibility to your fans? My biggest responsibility
- 9:26Speaker 1: to the fans is saying true to him. That That's
- 9:31Speaker 1: what my biggest thing is to the fans, is staying
- 9:33Speaker 1: true to him. The fans started loving me, man. I've
- 9:37Speaker 1: been on Food Network of all of nine years from
- 9:39Speaker 1: Cutthroat Kids and Shelf wanted Food Network start Judge and
- 9:43Speaker 1: Chop Jr. And the thing is they kept bringing me
- 9:46Speaker 1: backwards because the fans desired and loved the character of
- 9:49Speaker 1: who I was and what it was was the originality.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And when you say, Okay, the everyday person, regardless of
- 9:55Speaker 1: how big I get in show business, I'm still Denard
- 9:59Speaker 1: at the end of that a k a. The Chelf
- 10:01Speaker 1: love Man and and what it's about is giving the
- 10:04Speaker 1: people what they love. And the fact because at the
- 10:08Speaker 1: end of the day. I have to always keep it
- 10:09Speaker 1: in my mind by staying humble and making sure that
- 10:12Speaker 1: I remind people I wouldn't be where I would where
- 10:14Speaker 1: I am today if it wasn't for God and the
- 10:16Speaker 1: fans who loved what I do. Right, Okay, we're gonna
- 10:21Speaker 1: go to a break. Hang on, I know I only
- 10:24Speaker 1: put you down for one break. Hang on, come back.
- 10:26Speaker 1: We're gonna wrap this up a couple of courtions. I
- 10:28Speaker 1: gotta ask you. Then, I want to introduce you to
- 10:30Speaker 1: one of my favorite bakers here in Houston, Texas, and
- 10:33Speaker 1: this t K. We'll be right back. We're right back
- 10:36Speaker 1: with more money making conversation. Got the chef of love
- 10:40Speaker 1: I call him see j W. You can see his
- 10:44Speaker 1: videos every Saturday on my Facebook page and ninety M Measter.
- 10:48Speaker 1: He's cooking what you're cooking this week? What you're cooking
- 10:50Speaker 1: this week? Man? We got some several times thanking that times.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Those season from scratch Babies awesome, my man, Chelf. Yeah
- 11:00Speaker 1: now you now, Yef, you know I'm gonna just tell
- 11:02Speaker 1: you this, man. You know you you you know this
- 11:05Speaker 1: is a good thing because this is how you create relationships.
- 11:09Speaker 1: You know how to stay in front of people what
- 11:11Speaker 1: I'm saying because you you know, you were sending me
- 11:14Speaker 1: videos of you cooking and then I didn't respond and
- 11:19Speaker 1: you follow up, go you didn't like it when we
- 11:20Speaker 1: seeing you another you know, you know which which is
- 11:27Speaker 1: good because that meant that means that you're putting them,
- 11:30Speaker 1: You're willing to put the work in to build your
- 11:32Speaker 1: brand and create your relationship. And and this is this
- 11:36Speaker 1: is very important. And this is what I hope people
- 11:39Speaker 1: are starting to take away when they're listening to this show,
- 11:42Speaker 1: is that be willing to make an adjustment if it
- 11:46Speaker 1: gives you the opportunity to win. Because you know, we
- 11:53Speaker 1: got on a conference call my producer, uh Samantha Taylor,
- 11:58Speaker 1: and I got on the call him and me a
- 12:00Speaker 1: and were in Samantha, who he don't know at least
- 12:02Speaker 1: at least he know me. You know, he knows me,
- 12:05Speaker 1: so he could probably take a hit from me. But
- 12:07Speaker 1: then he got this unknown person and looked at his
- 12:09Speaker 1: video giving him notes and saying, when you now, it's
- 12:13Speaker 1: a little too fast here and I can't read the text.
- 12:17Speaker 1: The text needs to be white, and I think you
- 12:20Speaker 1: need to be you know, you're moving too too quick
- 12:24Speaker 1: when you're cooking. And I don't even know she cook
- 12:26Speaker 1: first of all. You know, so we got a person
- 12:28Speaker 1: who giving him notes. We don't even know if they
- 12:30Speaker 1: can cook because she's she's petite in size. When petite
- 12:34Speaker 1: people don't really eat. And so you know that you
- 12:37Speaker 1: know they eat. People get on my nerve, you know,
- 12:39Speaker 1: talking about they eat a lot. All they do that
- 12:44Speaker 1: one little burst of eating. I told you I could
- 12:46Speaker 1: eat okay, following a ride for a week. That was
- 12:49Speaker 1: their whole meal. You know, I'm saying, and so and
- 12:52Speaker 1: so I say that to say that, you know, you
- 12:55Speaker 1: were wanting to take these notes and make these adjustments.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And then Leslie, who you really don't know by technical guru,
- 13:02Speaker 1: she said, well he misspelled tablespoon. You know, she said,
- 13:09Speaker 1: I like the video, but he misspelled tablespoon. And so
- 13:13Speaker 1: you're taking all these hits right from all these unknown people.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I ain't saying the word. I was just letting people
- 13:19Speaker 1: do their things. You can't spell, told you can't cook.
- 13:24Speaker 1: But you you're hanging in there because all you see
- 13:29Speaker 1: is opportunity. You're telling everybody I don't care what they say.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Long as Mr McDonald said he gonna post my video,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I'm riding all this out so telling people, tell my
- 13:39Speaker 1: listeners in my viewers why that was so important that
- 13:42Speaker 1: they need to understand when people criticize you or critique
- 13:46Speaker 1: your work, don't take it personal. You never can take
- 13:50Speaker 1: a person you know. It's it's constructive criticism. And that's
- 13:57Speaker 1: that's what it is. It builds It builds you up.
- 14:00Speaker 1: It built us up to the platform where we were.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And I learned a long time ago when somebody is
- 14:06Speaker 1: saying up to you in this industry and you you're
- 14:08Speaker 1: trying to build a business and a brand, I'm a spunge.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And that's what I suggested people don't take it to heart,
- 14:15Speaker 1: taking and learn from you because I put in my
- 14:17Speaker 1: mind was the people that are giving me the advice
- 14:20Speaker 1: and that are giving these different twols, they have been
- 14:23Speaker 1: there and done that, and that's where I'm trying to
- 14:26Speaker 1: get to and that's where I want to maintain and
- 14:29Speaker 1: did so so absorb it and what I learned doing adapt,
- 14:34Speaker 1: adapt to change and adapt bad. When when't got time, Man,
- 14:38Speaker 1: if he's sitting around and I'm took to trying to
- 14:41Speaker 1: think about what I need to I need to hear
- 14:43Speaker 1: what you gotta saying and act on it immediately. Cool.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Let me tell you something, my friend. There's a lot
- 14:51Speaker 1: of cooking shows out there. How does a person sitting
- 14:56Speaker 1: at the house get on these shows? Man? I'm just
- 15:01Speaker 1: how do how do you know? You'na tell you? You You know?
- 15:03Speaker 1: You turn on man? They got people thinking their own
- 15:06Speaker 1: cooking videos. You got people on the food netword the
- 15:10Speaker 1: cooking Network, that people on the they're people cooking on TV.
- 15:13Speaker 1: They shouldn't be cooking. Okay, that's not bad. It's some
- 15:16Speaker 1: people out there cooking on TV that shouldn't be cooking.
- 15:19Speaker 1: But somehow they got on TV. How does that work? Man?
- 15:23Speaker 1: Like there's a comic. I know how that works? You
- 15:25Speaker 1: know you you keep being funny, Keep being funny, keep auditionals.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Eventually you cannstate you're funny. Now, everybody can do a hamburger.
- 15:33Speaker 1: There's a lot of people out there can do a steak.
- 15:34Speaker 1: There's a lot of people out there can do tacos
- 15:37Speaker 1: or barbecue. How does a person get on TV they
- 15:41Speaker 1: can cook? First of all, you gotta have a colinary
- 15:45Speaker 1: point of view. That's colorary point. The culinary point of
- 15:49Speaker 1: view is what's your ain't going? You can't go on
- 15:52Speaker 1: there if you notice everybody's on that cooking that they're
- 15:54Speaker 1: cooking a certain specific thing, a certain goal. That's your style.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You gotta have that. You can't be all over the board.
- 16:01Speaker 1: That's the thing. The second thing is because they these
- 16:05Speaker 1: people on the nereways, they've got hundreds of thousands of people.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Some men their information and the keys figure out what's
- 16:12Speaker 1: unique about you and hone in to make that shine. Hey,
- 16:16Speaker 1: you got a country acting and they love here that
- 16:18Speaker 1: in New York. Hey focus on talking country y'all, y'all out.
- 16:30Speaker 1: And learned to nag with the powerful people. And that's
- 16:34Speaker 1: what I did, you know. I learned to connect with
- 16:36Speaker 1: the producers and the talent scouts, and I kept putting
- 16:41Speaker 1: my stepp self in front of them because persistency is key.
- 16:45Speaker 1: And I keep telling people that if it's something that
- 16:48Speaker 1: you desire, won't in life. You never stopped. You never stopped.
- 16:53Speaker 1: You keep hammering at regardless of how hard it may sing. Man,
- 16:57Speaker 1: there were time of years when I thought, Hey, I
- 17:00Speaker 1: want to be at the bottom of the barrel. And
- 17:01Speaker 1: then by me saying the funny people my phone started
- 17:05Speaker 1: ranging they Hey, we want you to do this, and
- 17:07Speaker 1: and I was said, yes, man, I said, I wasn't
- 17:10Speaker 1: turning down nothing but my collar until I guess that, Hey,
- 17:15Speaker 1: they put me on the show like cutthroat kitchen man.
- 17:18Speaker 1: They had me cooking on the water. They had me
- 17:20Speaker 1: running around with all counters donor rings on there. And
- 17:23Speaker 1: I went and I dominated because why the reason why
- 17:27Speaker 1: is I wasn't just sitting at home sitting on videos.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I was sad working on my skill and my knowledge
- 17:34Speaker 1: because this was like a comedian. A comedian works on
- 17:38Speaker 1: miss tallent. He works on what he's got, his punchline.
- 17:41Speaker 1: You don't have to get out there and shooting again.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And I wanted to be one of those guys. If
- 17:45Speaker 1: I knew this is the way I want to go.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I want to get in front of camera, just shoot
- 17:48Speaker 1: from me up, my man, brother, I want to thank
- 17:53Speaker 1: you for calling on my show today. We are partners.
