Latest / Life For Toledo / Rest versus Striving Ecclesiastes 4:6
Transcript
- 0:00I'm thinking today of Ecclesiastes 4.6.
- 0:04One hand full of rest is better than two fists full of labor and striving after wind.
- 0:10It's okay.
- 0:12Striving to change the world without God's purpose is futile.
- 0:16What if we succeeded?
- 0:18What eternal good would there be?
- 0:21What good can we do in our effort?
- 0:23Of course to do evil is the wrong road.
- 0:27But is he who is striving ever really doing good?
- 0:32Would we be better off resting in the Lord and allowing him to work through us?
- 0:38Can we do this without yielding to laziness and becoming unproductive?
- 0:44Lord, I don't yearn for fame.
- 0:49I don't think any of us do.
- 0:51And those of us who do probably aren't listening to this message.
- 0:54We don't even know what's best for us every single day.
- 1:00You know.
- 1:01Lord, help us do the right things daily.
- 1:06Please give us this day our daily bread.
- 1:08I think I've heard that somewhere before.
- 1:10Is there anything better?
- 1:13Resting in God and seeing the outcomes that God provides seems like the only road that
- 1:19works.
- 1:21But does rest equal a lack of labor?
- 1:24No.
- 1:25It equals being committed to the labor of love.
- 1:28Does labor equal striving?
- 1:30No.
- 1:31It means trusting God and doing what God would have you to do and allowing him to provide
- 1:36the increase.
- 1:39We've got this.
- 1:40I know that all that's accomplished by our flawed nature fails and falls away.
- 1:46But that which God does lasts forever.
