- 1:14Speaker 1: I met him when he only had one title actor,
- 1:18Speaker 1: TV personality businessman along with the daily duties of a
- 1:22Speaker 1: single father. Five Please welcome to the Money Making Conversations.
- 1:27Speaker 1: First time, Ricky Smiley, come on down, Hey, Ricky? How
- 1:43Speaker 1: you doing? Man? Hey Ricky, First of all, thank you
- 1:45Speaker 1: for calling the show and how I'm doing this fantastic?
- 1:48Speaker 1: How you doing is awesome? Man. Let me just tell
- 1:50Speaker 1: you what Money Making Conversation is, first of all, because
- 1:53Speaker 1: I know you called because Rashawn asked. Money Making Conversation
- 1:56Speaker 1: is a motivational show to tell everyday people how individuals
- 2:00Speaker 1: who are successful like you, expand your options, expand your goals.
- 2:05Speaker 1: In other words, your stand up that was your base,
- 2:07Speaker 1: but I rapped off like five jobs and it's really
- 2:10Speaker 1: people know that your goal in life is not just
- 2:13Speaker 1: to be able to just tell jokes. That you have
- 2:15Speaker 1: another side of you. There's a business side of you
- 2:17Speaker 1: that's what money making conversations is about. I also know
- 2:20Speaker 1: that like Tuesday, you know, the reality show the fourth
- 2:23Speaker 1: season a Ricky Smiler for a real kick off. We
- 2:26Speaker 1: want to talk about that. Because you were shocked that
- 2:29Speaker 1: I watched your show. I was colder to start, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 1: I know you and cooking, you know, with your crazy
- 2:40Speaker 1: because I was watching the show, and I'm talking about you.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You were watching it weekly, and I knew somebody had
- 2:48Speaker 1: to be watching because it got really good radio. But
- 2:50Speaker 1: when I go through like a Walmart in the on
- 2:54Speaker 1: the on the black people walking to Walmart doing the
- 2:58Speaker 1: day it because on their security check, all of old
- 3:04Speaker 1: people watch the old school home training, the discipline and
- 3:10Speaker 1: destruction and the no nonsense and the and the conflict
- 3:14Speaker 1: and the resolutions. They just appreciated because because it's just
- 3:19Speaker 1: it's a good soul. Man. You can watch this show
- 3:21Speaker 1: with your kids. That's what I love about that, because
- 3:25Speaker 1: you know, you know I started watching it. You know,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I always watched the episode here and there, but I
- 3:29Speaker 1: got it to the part where, you know, when your
- 3:31Speaker 1: daughter was dating that old dude like you and he
- 3:35Speaker 1: came to that Birmingham Live Costs Live Live broadcasts we
- 3:40Speaker 1: had to shut that down. Also also it was really
- 3:50Speaker 1: Here's why I like the show because of the fact
- 3:52Speaker 1: that it deals with real life reality. Okay, because a
- 3:55Speaker 1: lot of reality some people think it's faith. Like your
- 3:57Speaker 1: relationship with your son that was really unge last season. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 1: and uh, and there was a moment that there was
- 4:06Speaker 1: a moment you had in that conference room, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 1: with the psychologist trying to mend everything together. Man, how
- 4:12Speaker 1: is it gonna be for season four on Ricky Smiley
- 4:15Speaker 1: for real? Well, you're actually, uh, you know, see it,
- 4:19Speaker 1: see that relationship get better, it's still some steps you know, um,
- 4:25Speaker 1: towards getting a relationship with my older son where it
- 4:28Speaker 1: needs to be. And then you have to see my
- 4:30Speaker 1: daughter when they go through stuff because she got pulled
- 4:33Speaker 1: out of FIU in Miami and I had to transfer
- 4:36Speaker 1: her up to Tennessee State University and said, you're gonna
- 4:39Speaker 1: see everything with all of that, because there was a
- 4:42Speaker 1: later drama involved on that, because nobody wants to change
- 4:44Speaker 1: school and leave Miami and you know and go to Tennessee.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And just the development and Craig getting older and Malik
- 4:53Speaker 1: getting older, and even the stuff with the controversy with
- 4:58Speaker 1: Malik and some state him that he made on last
- 5:02Speaker 1: season that he apologized for him. Yeah. Yeah, and that's
- 5:08Speaker 1: gonna be addressed on the first Uh, that's going to
- 5:11Speaker 1: be addressed on on the first scene tomorrow night. So
- 5:14Speaker 1: we could tell people who don't watch, what was that?
- 5:17Speaker 1: What was that moment you were talking about him? Did
- 5:19Speaker 1: he needed to apologize about Well, you know, he has
- 5:22Speaker 1: made some irresponsible um you know, jokes and and was
- 5:26Speaker 1: talking about dating outside of his race, but he uh,
- 5:31Speaker 1: his approach and uh what he said the way it
- 5:35Speaker 1: came out, it was, it was it ted off a
- 5:38Speaker 1: lot of women in the world, rightfully, so rightfully, so yeah, yeah,
- 5:42Speaker 1: it was. It was. It was disrespectful. Uh personally, it
- 5:46Speaker 1: never should have aired, you know. Uh So I had
- 5:49Speaker 1: some arguments behind the scene, whether they said, well that's
- 5:52Speaker 1: how he felt. I said, yeah, but three ye olds
- 5:53Speaker 1: one candy for breakfast, but did you give it to him?
- 5:56Speaker 1: You know? So uh so, yeah, that was some some
- 6:00Speaker 1: real cuss out moment that should have been on cameras,
- 6:03Speaker 1: you know. But I also had to defend him because
- 6:07Speaker 1: the words that each other was wrong and disrespectful. But
- 6:10Speaker 1: he does have a right to love who you want
- 6:11Speaker 1: to love. And like who you know, like we want
- 6:14Speaker 1: to like and he did apologize, so you know, I
- 6:17Speaker 1: had to get all these grown folks instead of going
- 6:19Speaker 1: on his social media encouraging him. They were going on there,
- 6:24Speaker 1: you know, dogging himunta and I'm talking about grown what's
- 6:26Speaker 1: going out a fifteen yard stuff? Say I got some
- 6:28Speaker 1: good advice where you are offering him advice or whatever,
- 6:31Speaker 1: because he didn't hit nobody or shoot nobody or nobody.
- 6:35Speaker 1: You know, he said some stuff and just being fifteen
- 6:39Speaker 1: and trying to crack a joke that wasn't fun. But
- 6:41Speaker 1: let me ask you this, Ricky, is it difficult raising
- 6:44Speaker 1: your kids in front of a camera like that as
- 6:46Speaker 1: a parent because you're a real engaged and involved parents. Okay,
- 6:50Speaker 1: so so these moments are caught on camera. That that
- 6:54Speaker 1: makes it difficult, doesn't it? Uh no, because uh shouting,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm just being me. I don't have to I don't.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I don't change when the camera's coming the room. That's true,
- 7:07Speaker 1: and that's why that's why the show called Rick's Amat
- 7:09Speaker 1: for real. And you can't know I met twenty something
- 7:12Speaker 1: a year and many arguments and fights, we had nothing
- 7:17Speaker 1: and you can't you can't say nothing to sun, because
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'm not nothing for another person of you, just like
- 7:24Speaker 1: just like you and and and Steve and been around
- 7:27Speaker 1: y'all my whole life, growing up under y'all, I have
- 7:31Speaker 1: developed y'all ways and y'all fussy and be mad and
- 7:35Speaker 1: on the same way. So you know, I just I
- 7:38Speaker 1: can't put it on for the camera, even in my
- 7:40Speaker 1: stand up, even though I laughed at some of my jokes,
- 7:43Speaker 1: but all the other is real. I can't do faith,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I can't do fake nothing. Yeah. When he sent the
- 7:50Speaker 1: resume over to me about because I want to get
- 7:53Speaker 1: everything in and I know I got one break with you.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I did not see anything about Cookie and I didn't
- 7:58Speaker 1: see anything about the book. Is there something we should
- 8:01Speaker 1: be talking about right now? Or you know the book
- 8:04Speaker 1: is just haven't been printed and were just finishing the
- 8:09Speaker 1: final stages. Uh that book comes out October twenty three,
- 8:14Speaker 1: and uh so that's gonna be on season five. If
- 8:19Speaker 1: the Good Lords say the same that we get it,
- 8:20Speaker 1: will it will say the same, But it will say
- 8:22Speaker 1: the same, You will say the same. But uh so, yeah,
- 8:26Speaker 1: that's coming out. And the stuff with the cooking, you know,
- 8:28Speaker 1: that would be in the next season too. Because it
- 8:30Speaker 1: was just so much content because it's not just me
- 8:32Speaker 1: and my kids. It's me and my kids, and then
- 8:34Speaker 1: we gets some out of the morning show and some
- 8:36Speaker 1: of their stories. So much content and so many moving
- 8:40Speaker 1: part trying to get it all in, and we have
- 8:44Speaker 1: to decide what we're gonna use and what we're not
- 8:46Speaker 1: gonna use, you know, because let's le's let's face it,
- 8:48Speaker 1: this show was what's the show where you wouldn't at
- 8:51Speaker 1: your pocket and really really produced it correct to get
- 8:55Speaker 1: it out there, right, Okay, Yeah, Rogerball put up some
- 8:59Speaker 1: money and shot of path ride, Bob took it over
- 9:01Speaker 1: to the network. They green lidded and we and we've
- 9:05Speaker 1: been so sometimes you gotta like take your own vision
- 9:10Speaker 1: into your own hand financially to make it work. That's
- 9:12Speaker 1: what you're saying right there, correct, Absolutely, yeah, absolutely. One
- 9:16Speaker 1: of the things that uh, you probably do not remember.
- 9:20Speaker 1: You Stephen Boomerang got on the phone and Triple Team
- 9:23Speaker 1: one day and curse me out, like like literally use
- 9:27Speaker 1: real curse words to curse me out. He wanted to
- 9:31Speaker 1: get me in a better position to get to where
- 9:33Speaker 1: I am now. And it was one of the best
- 9:35Speaker 1: curse outs I had because I was like, hey, man,
- 9:38Speaker 1: if you don't do this radio, we're not gonna help
- 9:41Speaker 1: you no more. Because gonna because you know you didn't
- 9:44Speaker 1: want to. Let's go, Let's go set the story up.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Let's set the story up. Is that is Ricky Smiley
- 9:50Speaker 1: at the time was given the opportunity to come on
- 9:52Speaker 1: to Steve Harvard Morning Show. Correct, yeah, no, not to
- 9:57Speaker 1: take over the Steve Harvard mon shop. But when I
- 9:59Speaker 1: got there and did the morning show with Steve, I
- 10:02Speaker 1: wanted to stay on with Stephen. You argue with me
- 10:04Speaker 1: and say, hey, you need to do your own show,
- 10:07Speaker 1: But before that I wasn't willing to leave Berminham. Thank you.
- 10:11Speaker 1: My biggest story that I tell people now, hey, you
- 10:14Speaker 1: got to get out of your own sitting and leave
- 10:17Speaker 1: in order to grow. Because a fish don't get bigger
- 10:19Speaker 1: as long as inside of that bish boat. This git
- 10:23Speaker 1: bigger when you put it in a punt. When we
- 10:25Speaker 1: look at all the trees, all of the trees you
- 10:27Speaker 1: see some of them was one in a flower pipe.
- 10:30Speaker 1: But until they got out of the flower pine and
- 10:32Speaker 1: was put in the ground, they were able to grow amazing,
- 10:36Speaker 1: amazing every Yeah, So when you say that you have
- 10:41Speaker 1: this nation you have the comedy tour, you have to
- 10:45Speaker 1: talk show, I mean the radio show, which is Fact,
- 10:47Speaker 1: which is the number one hip hop radio syndicated show
- 10:50Speaker 1: in the country, by the way, and then you have
- 10:52Speaker 1: Ricky Smiley for real. Now, the thing I love about
- 10:56Speaker 1: this because of one didn't to get up and up
- 11:01Speaker 1: root and leave Birminham, Alabama, because had I not moved
- 11:06Speaker 1: to Dallas, Texas, I wouldn't have been able to do
- 11:09Speaker 1: the things that I'm doing now. And some and and
- 11:13Speaker 1: it's just a growing process. Sometimes you have to get
- 11:15Speaker 1: out of your own way, in your own comfort zone
- 11:18Speaker 1: and offer to growth. And that's something that y'all really
- 11:21Speaker 1: busted me and bought home. And now you know it
- 11:25Speaker 1: makes and you're you're absolutely right. But here's the far
- 11:29Speaker 1: part about it. Because you are successful, you could just
- 11:31Speaker 1: spend a lot of time in Birmingham. Absolutely, is that crazy? Absolutely?
- 11:36Speaker 1: You had to leave me, Yeah, that you had to.
- 11:38Speaker 1: You had to leave to become successful. Now you're successful,
- 11:42Speaker 1: you can dictate where you can spend most of your time.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Where your conference zone, right, it's in Birmingham, right. You know,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I did the morning show one morning, I got some group,
- 11:53Speaker 1: I did the morning show one one morning from a
- 11:56Speaker 1: funeral home. I'd be embalming on the side and be
- 11:58Speaker 1: doing commercial for Uper and everything else while I'm embalming
- 12:02Speaker 1: a body and everything. It's just just blessed. I'm just
- 12:06Speaker 1: kidding sign you know. You know, it's a whole lot
- 12:11Speaker 1: of breaks. Everybody, everybody my broadcast to you win. They
- 12:15Speaker 1: just they just started blinking. You know when people you
- 12:17Speaker 1: say something crazes about it, they get that rabbit I blink.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Their eyes were just blinking because they were trying to
- 12:23Speaker 1: figure it all out. He broadcasting and doing a UPER
- 12:26Speaker 1: commercial and embalming at the same time. Somehow that ain't
- 12:30Speaker 1: working out well, I will I will tell you this though.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I didn't get a chance to go to a you know,
- 12:36Speaker 1: I need to get a chance to go to a
- 12:38Speaker 1: funeral home. And doubt the man took me in the backup.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I was just curious and he took me to the
- 12:42Speaker 1: back or whatever. And the dude that they get them
- 12:45Speaker 1: there body ready. But they were listening to nine and nine.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Hey man, when you do something that we're doing big
- 12:55Speaker 1: my way makeup though, When you know, when you do
- 12:57Speaker 1: something on a regular basis, it becomes normal to you,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you know, it's because like this is this is their
- 13:02Speaker 1: normal thing. Something we might stand extreme is normal. Just
- 13:05Speaker 1: like when people do surgery on your hospital they turn
- 13:08Speaker 1: on music. You know what, I'm thinking, They're back there,
- 13:16Speaker 1: They're back there. They do you know, I'm a dangerous
- 13:21Speaker 1: man with money in my pocket. Not back then carried
- 13:27Speaker 1: what I'm saying now at the funeral, just a thought
- 13:33Speaker 1: that they didn't got big Voma ready, but they listen to.
- 13:39Speaker 1: It's just making yourself, making yourself real. So with all
- 13:42Speaker 1: the success that you have it now, first of all,
- 13:44Speaker 1: I know you're not stopping. Okay, the machine, the beast
- 13:48Speaker 1: has been led out of Birmingham and you see the
- 13:50Speaker 1: results of having a good team around you, having all
- 13:53Speaker 1: these opportunities. What's what's what's what's the goal here? What's
- 13:56Speaker 1: the goal? What's what's what's what's the big moment for you?
- 13:59Speaker 1: Ricky of the goal is just kind of be get
- 14:02Speaker 1: to a point of your career where you're doing behind
- 14:04Speaker 1: the scenes and you're not doing all of the heavy
- 14:07Speaker 1: looking anymore and getting a chance to slow down, enjoy
- 14:11Speaker 1: some weekends, go to your nieces and nepew little league
- 14:15Speaker 1: football game on Saturdays. You know, instead of getting on
- 14:18Speaker 1: a plane every single Saturday and standing in the hotel
- 14:21Speaker 1: every Saturday night. Now I would like to go see
- 14:24Speaker 1: my little nephew players litt League football games and and
- 14:28Speaker 1: go through the concepton stand and get a hot dog
- 14:30Speaker 1: and and you know, go home and watch college football
- 14:33Speaker 1: because I'm a big college football fan, and go to
- 14:35Speaker 1: some NFL games, and go to some lb A games.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Do some things that I never had an opportunity to
- 14:40Speaker 1: do as a comedian because you're on the road working
- 14:43Speaker 1: all the time. You haven't had an opportunity to enjoy it,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know, so uh, and then doing what I pretty
- 14:50Speaker 1: much do every day now, like you know every day,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and uh, I go to the lake. I go to
- 14:55Speaker 1: the lake every single day and take my little boat
- 14:58Speaker 1: out and listen to the eag and Stilly Dan and
- 15:01Speaker 1: Fleetwood the lake right behind your house. Rick, don't act
- 15:05Speaker 1: like you Yeah, that's a pot. You know, that's a
- 15:11Speaker 1: that's a big yeah. You know when y'all y'all came
- 15:13Speaker 1: over that, y'all say, Hell, by the time you just
- 15:16Speaker 1: get full, you'll be at the other end of it.
- 15:20Speaker 1: That's true. That's true. That's true. That's true. That's true.
- 15:23Speaker 1: But you did have those fishing poles though. You did
- 15:25Speaker 1: have those fishing poles though, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 1: you can go back there and fish. I got some
- 15:29Speaker 1: bads and some uh and some brams and some croppies
- 15:32Speaker 1: back there. And then I I go back there every
- 15:35Speaker 1: day and throw a hand full of dog food out.
- 15:37Speaker 1: So I keep the fish fat, happy, happy. Yeah, I
- 15:40Speaker 1: keep them, keep them happy. But but man, when I
- 15:42Speaker 1: tell you, man, I go out there to that lake. Man,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I sleep on my boat. Man, I stay out there
- 15:47Speaker 1: and think and do interviews and write good content and
- 15:51Speaker 1: material and and just enjoy being on the waters. That's
- 15:54Speaker 1: my whole life is just the water. Hey, Rick, Man,
- 15:57Speaker 1: they're telling me I've actually went over three minutes, you know.
- 16:00Speaker 1: But I gotta your celebrity though, Rick, You know, I
- 16:04Speaker 1: really don't care about commercials when I got a good friend,
- 16:07Speaker 1: returned your brother and a celebrity on the phone. So
- 16:09Speaker 1: and it's a new radio station to Rick, So you know,
- 16:12Speaker 1: they ain't got a lot of commercials right now, so
- 16:15Speaker 1: I can like bump a couple of them off, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 1: and then push push. But they do have commercials though,
- 16:21Speaker 1: and I gotta respect what commercials they do have. So
- 16:23Speaker 1: Ricky again Tomorrow premieres on TV one. Ricky Smiling for Real.
