- 0:00It is good to see all of your faces, a lot of new faces too,
- 0:02which is amazing to see. Hey, my name is Sean Stevens.
- 0:06I am on the teaching team here at Res Church.
- 0:09My wife and I have been coming here for about 5 years.
- 0:12Man it is. It is always a blessing to be
- 0:15here with you today. We are going to continue in our
- 0:18series and John, we are going to be looking at John 1117 through
- 0:2227. So if you guys want to turn
- 0:24there now, you can go ahead. But we're going to be looking at
- 0:27the life, death and ultimately the life of Lazarus as it
- 0:32pertains to his two sisters, Martha and Mary.
- 0:36I would say that it is safe, that there are moments in life
- 0:41that feel so outer body, so confusing, so filled with
- 0:47suffering, that we begin to ask the question, why?
- 0:51Why do these things happen? Where were you, God, in my time
- 0:57of need? It may be a moment of actual
- 1:00loss, like what we're going to see in our reading today.
- 1:04Or it might be just that the rug got pulled out from under you
- 1:08and it's confusing and you don't understand it.
- 1:10I myself have had many of these moments.
- 1:13Some are from the Lord sovereignly and others are
- 1:16created by our own bad decisions and then we have to live in the
- 1:20consequence of that. So just for kind of a frame of
- 1:22reference, so you know who I am a little bit.
- 1:25Most of you know my story, but I am about 2 1/2 years sober
- 1:29today. 2 1/2 years. Yeah.
- 1:31Praise the Lord. God is so faithful.
- 1:34Yeah, well 2 1/2 years ago I got Volun told to come to an elder
- 1:39meeting where I got sat down by all the pastors and the elders.
- 1:43And there was a non negotiable requirement of my life at that
- 1:47time, which was for the sake of my marriage and for the sake of
- 1:50me being a part of Rez church, that I had to go into sober
- 1:54living for three months. So I find myself in this
- 1:57position where I'm an addict, I'm an alcoholic and all of the
- 2:02things that come with that. I'd lost my job, I'd lost where
- 2:05I was living. My wife was 8 months pregnant, I
- 2:07had a 2 year old daughter. Everything was burning to the
- 2:10ground around me. I mean, it is safe to say that I
- 2:13was completely hopeless in that moment.
- 2:15And I remember going into this sober living facility and you
- 2:18have guys that are tattooed from their toes to their head, their
- 2:23felons, their convicts. They've lived rough lives.
- 2:25I go into my little room and I sit on my squeaky and stained
- 2:30twin bed with a guy that I'm living with in that room who has
- 2:34visible signs of PTSD in his life.
- 2:38And I remember sitting on that bed and everything just became
- 2:40silent where I had to kind of re evaluate if there was even a
- 2:45plan for my life. Was God absent in these moments
- 2:49or was there a purpose to what I was going through?
- 2:51And ultimately I had to choose to believe right then that in
- 2:56the midst of my suffering that God still had a plan for my
- 3:00life. And that what we are going to
- 3:02see is that in the midst of all of our suffering, God has a plan
- 3:05for hours. The big idea today is that when
- 3:08everything feels dead, it's where hope in Jesus begins,
- 3:12where everything feels dead, it's where hope in Jesus begins.
- 3:16So we're going to be in John 1117 through 27, starting in
- 3:21verse 17, it says now when Jesus came and found Lazarus had
- 3:27already been dead for four days in the tomb.
- 3:29Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, and many of
- 3:33the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning
- 3:36their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was
- 3:39coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the
- 3:43house. Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if
- 3:50you had been here, my brother would not have died.
- 3:56But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God
- 3:59will give you. And Jesus said to her, Your
- 4:01brother will rise again. Martha said to him, I know that
- 4:05he will rise on the resurrection on the last day.
- 4:09And Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life.
- 4:14Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and
- 4:19everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.
- 4:22Do you believe this? And she said to him, yes, Lord,
- 4:26I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God who is
- 4:31coming into the world. Let's pray Father, we pray for
- 4:35your word as you promised to not come back void, that you would
- 4:40do the work in our hearts that only you could do and that we
- 4:43could ultimately see Jesus for who he is, that He is good, who
- 4:47has a purpose for our life, He has a plan and that He can be
- 4:51trusted. We pray these things in Jesus
- 4:53name, Amen. So as Justin explained last week
- 4:58in his sermon, Jesus knew that Lazarus was on the precipice of
- 5:05death, that it was imminent Lazarus was going to die.
- 5:08And what Jesus decided to do in that moment was not rush to
- 5:11Martha and Mary and Lazarus to make sure that Lazarus didn't
- 5:15experience this physical death. But what he does is he
- 5:18intentionally delays and inevitably Lazarus dies, Lazarus
- 5:24dies. Jesus explains this on his
- 5:27reasoning on why he says that one, that the power of God would
- 5:31be shown and two, that God would receive glory when he resurrects
- 5:35him. The problem or the challenge at
- 5:38this moment is you still have Martha and Mary bearing the
- 5:43weight of losing a loved one. It is real, it is overwhelming.
- 5:49I I can imagine the confusion, the hurt in this moment.
- 5:53But as we will see, there is a purpose to his dealings with
- 5:57Martha and there is a purpose to his dealings with us as we find
- 6:02ourselves in similar situations. Because when everything feels
- 6:06dead, it's where hope and Jesus begins.
- 6:08So point number one, God is at work.
- 6:12God is at work. Jesus is coming into Bethany.
- 6:16He's riding in, Mary stays in the house, house.
- 6:19Martha sprints out to meet him. And Martha says to Jesus, Lord,
- 6:24if you would have been here, if you would have been here, my
- 6:29brother wouldn't have died. Do you hear the question?
- 6:36I know, I hear it. I can feel it.
- 6:38I think we've all felt it. What Martha is asking is why?
- 6:43Why did you let this happen? Why in my greatest time of need
- 6:50were you absent in this moment? Why did my brother have to die?
- 6:54Do you know those moments? I know them where God feels so
- 7:03absent, where you begin to question everything.
- 7:08I mean, I just turned 39 and I've had a specific suffering in
- 7:12my life, my entire life. So 39 years.
- 7:15I have insomnia. And I don't mean like I can't
- 7:19sleep a little bit. I mean my mom tells stories.
- 7:21When I was a baby, I didn't sleep.
- 7:23When I was a toddler, I didn't sleep.
- 7:24Some of my first memories in life is being 5-6 years old and
- 7:28I'm just sitting in my room playing with toys and it's 3:00
- 7:33in the morning. It's silent in the house, it's
- 7:35dark in the house, it's dark outside.
- 7:37I'm just awake. These are some of my earliest
- 7:39memories I have prayed to God, Lord, please give me sleep.
- 7:44Some days I I feel like a zombie.
- 7:47I feel like I'm walking on the moon.
- 7:49I'm queasy, I'm angry, I'm all of these things and I see God
- 7:52and say, please remove this. And God has not removed this
- 7:57thing. And the truth is that although I
- 8:00know, I know it, that he is good and he could be trusted.
- 8:05I know it. Man, is it hard to believe it
- 8:08sometimes? Man, is it hard to to see God in
- 8:13the middle of our suffering? Martha is experiencing this same
- 8:18kind of disconnect. She knows that the issue is the
- 8:22belief at this moment. Listen to what Martha says in
- 8:25John 11/22 she says, But even now I know that whatever you ask
- 8:31of God that he will give you, but right before she says but
- 8:36why did my brother have to die? I know that you have a plan, but
- 8:42this tragedy has befallen on me and I don't understand why.
- 8:45And what a natural response that is in a moment like this.
- 8:49That when life hits so overwhelmingly where it feels
- 8:53like you are outside of your own body, when tragedy strikes, that
- 8:57we are struck by fear and doubt and confusion, despair.
- 9:02Will there ever be hope again? But as the Bible begins to speak
- 9:08to us about the character of Jesus, we see as we get to know
- 9:11Him that it is for our good. He does have a plan.
- 9:17We see that it is promised in the Bible, suffering and there
- 9:20is a purpose behind it. One of those reasons is to draw
- 9:23us closer to God. He wants to draw us in.
- 9:27Listen to what Hebrews 415 and 16 says.
- 9:30It says we do not have a high priest who is unable to
- 9:35sympathize with our weaknesses. Hey, Hallelujah, Hallelujah that
- 9:41He knows where I'm at right now, but one who in every respect has
- 9:47been tempted as we are, and yet He is without sin.
- 9:50Let us then, with confidence draw near the throne of grace,
- 9:55that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of
- 10:00need. Family, he knows where you're
- 10:03at. He knows what you're feeling.
- 10:06He knows that this world chews us up and tries to spit us out
- 10:10and leave us. For that He knows and how He
- 10:13knows, because He has hurt, He has suffered.
- 10:18He knows our confusion. He knows our weariness.
- 10:22Jesus has been suffered and tempted with everything that we
- 10:24have and more, and He understands our hardships.
- 10:29And He desires to give us a greater revelation of Himself
- 10:33that we would know Him and that we can find peace in the middle
- 10:37of whatever we are going through.
- 10:39We follow a suffering Saviour. He wants us to know the full
- 10:44counsel of His character, and part of that is suffering.
- 10:48The second one is it is to refine and strengthen.
- 10:51It is to refine and strengthen. Listen to first.
- 10:54Peter 4 says, Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery
- 10:58ordeal that has come on you to test you as though something
- 11:02strange were happening to you. The fire is supposed to test our
- 11:05faith. What a good God we serve that He
- 11:09tests our faith so we know that it is proven and real.
- 11:14He allows us to go through this so we can see the weight of our
- 11:17hardships and still trust him in it, and that our suffering is to
- 11:22grow our affection for Jesus brighter and that we would be
- 11:26refined and strengthened through the fire.
- 11:27So that's number one, is that God is at work #2 God offers
- 11:33resurrection power. He offers resurrection power.
- 11:41First, we're going to see a physical resurrection.
- 11:44He is talking about that. This is great news.
- 11:47This ain't your best life. Now family, Hallelujah.
- 11:51I got 2 little kids and it does not take me much to get to the
- 11:55point where I pray Jesus just come back right now, please, and
- 11:59just take me to heaven because I'm I'm done with this.
- 12:03Like literally I took in groceries two weeks ago.
- 12:06Simple task, right? Groceries are at the door, the
- 12:08counter is 12 feet away and I just have to get these groceries
- 12:12to the counter. The problem is I have a four
- 12:14year old and a 2 year old and they saw string cheese in the
- 12:17bag that I was holding and that's all it took.
- 12:19So now they're standing in front of the door like armed guards
- 12:22and they're just staring at me. And I'm trying to tell them
- 12:26like, hey, if I can get this bag to that counter, I'll give you
- 12:30the string cheese. But then they did this thing and
- 12:32I know parents will understand, especially parents with young
- 12:35kids. This thing never works that kids
- 12:38try to do, and if anything, it hinders.
- 12:41They did this thing where they try to help you.
- 12:43Ever seen that? Or they try to start helping
- 12:46you. My son drags a bag out.
- 12:48Oranges fly on the ground. There's avocados.
- 12:49I slip on the bag, I knock him over.
- 12:52My daughter is in the kitchen trying to take a single shoe
- 12:55off. She's having a meltdown.
- 12:57And in that moment I'm just like, Lord, come back now, right
- 13:00now, take me to heaven. That's all it takes.
- 13:03But that's the truth is that if you have put your faith in
- 13:05Jesus, this isn't your best life.
- 13:08Now. There is going to come a time
- 13:11when you either die or at the second coming of Jesus where all
- 13:15of your pain, all of the hardship, all of those questions
- 13:19that you have had your entire life, why did that have to
- 13:21happen to me? Why did it unfold that way?
- 13:25Why wasn't my dad around? Why did he have to die?
- 13:28All of those questions are going to be absolved in the goodness
- 13:32of God and we will spend eternity with Him in the
- 13:36fullness of joy. The first one is pointing to a
- 13:40future resurrection. The second one, praise the Lord
- 13:43as he's pointing to spiritual life now, spiritual life right
- 13:48now. Martha is rightfully devastated.
- 13:51Her brother is dead. She is experiencing the grief
- 13:55over this and in this moment Jesus comment to her could seem
- 14:00cold. She asked the question.
- 14:02She says if you would have been here, my brother wouldn't have
- 14:04died. Jesus doesn't respond to it.
- 14:08You ever pray to the Lord? Why, why, why?
- 14:10And he doesn't answer. He just lets you stay in it.
- 14:15That's where Martha's at. She is in the middle of it.
- 14:17Jesus says in that moment when he is looking at Martha, he
- 14:21says, I'm not going to tell you why I let him die and I'm not
- 14:28even concerned about the future. He stands right in front of her
- 14:32and says I am the resurrection and the life, it stands in front
- 14:39of her in that moment. Heavenly life, eternal life,
- 14:45these things stand in front of her.
- 14:48Satisfying life in God can be found in that moment.
- 14:52And this is amazing that no matter what befalls on us, your
- 14:57marriage, your health, your finances, that the resurrection
- 15:02is in front of you at this moment.
- 15:05But the truth is that resurrection power, seeing it
- 15:10for what it is, takes work. It takes a lot of work to see
- 15:14Jesus for who he is. It takes a lot of work to see
- 15:18Jesus in the suffering. Those parts of your life that
- 15:23are dead, it's hard to see life in it.
- 15:27There are some people in this room that have surrendered parts
- 15:31of your life to death, but there's this area that just
- 15:35hasn't been given over to the Lord.
- 15:37And he calls and he beckons, and he wants to heal it and give you
- 15:40peace in it. I mean, as I was preparing in
- 15:43this message, I began to think of all of the moments that I
- 15:47have experienced death in my life.
- 15:51And I know for a fact that there are men in this room right now
- 15:57where your marriages are dead. They're dead.
- 16:01You've ascribed them to death, and the Bible would speak to our
- 16:07marriage the same way that it would speak to every area of our
- 16:10life that we should care about our marriage.
- 16:13Listen to what Ephesians 525 through 28 says.
- 16:17It says, Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the
- 16:21Church, and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her,
- 16:27having cleansed her with the washing of the Word, so that he
- 16:30might present the Church to himself in splendor, without
- 16:35spot or wrinkle, or any such thing, that she might be holy
- 16:39without blemish. In the same way husbands love
- 16:44your wives. He who loves his wife loves
- 16:49himself. The Jesus as we are the bride
- 16:53cleanses us and purifies us. He spent so much time and so
- 16:55much effort building us up to ultimately present us to
- 17:00Himself. He does the work and then He
- 17:02presents us to Himself. Men, we are going to have to
- 17:06present our wives to a holy Creator who is also the Father
- 17:12of your wife. Is he going to look at you in
- 17:16that time and say, man, she looks exactly like I hoped she
- 17:20would look like? Or is he going to say, I wish
- 17:25you would have spent more time, sacrificed more, cared more,
- 17:31done the hard work more? I'm living this right now in my
- 17:35life. I'm 2 1/2 years sober.
- 17:39This wall of trust takes years to build.
- 17:43And in one moment I pushed it over.
- 17:45It's gone. So now I got to go find all the
- 17:48bricks and slowly start putting these things in place.
- 17:51But it takes time to get there. And I remember I'm a year into
- 17:53sobriety and I'm I'm holy and I'm doing everything I should be
- 17:57doing. And I'm having this problem.
- 18:00Like, man, my wife doesn't. She's not showing me the
- 18:02respect. I'm doing everything I need.
- 18:04And I would bring this to the men in my life and I'd say, what
- 18:07am I supposed to do? And all of them would say, get
- 18:11over it, seek God, stay accountable, die to your old
- 18:18ways, sacrifice more, sacrifice more, pursue her more, love her
- 18:22more. That I would have to bring it to
- 18:27the cross. God had the power to send His
- 18:32Son to die on our behalf, to win our hearts.
- 18:35He will give us the power to sacrifice ours to win hers
- 18:39through the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 18:40He will empower you to do things that you are didn't even think
- 18:45capable. Listen to what AW Tozer says in
- 18:50the pursuit of God. Speaking about the cross dying
- 18:52to our old ways. He says that the cross is rough
- 18:55and it is deadly, but it is effective.
- 18:57It does not keep its victim hanging there forever.
- 19:00There comes a moment when it's work is finished and the
- 19:03suffering victim dies and after that is resurrection.
- 19:06Glory and power in the pain is forgotten.
- 19:11And I'm not so naive to think that the pain might be your
- 19:14marriage and maybe it's not. Maybe your Martha moment isn't
- 19:20that and praise the Lord, but maybe it is your health.
- 19:25Maybe it is. Man, I have to see doctors every
- 19:27single week and it doesn't look like this is going to end well.
- 19:30And why God? Maybe it's parenting challenges.
- 19:35Hello anybody. Am I the only one that sits in
- 19:39my living room sometimes and like, I don't know what I'm
- 19:41doing? Or it could be the actual loss
- 19:46of a loved one. But all of these things can be
- 19:50brought to the cross of Christ so that in our hardship we can
- 19:54receive a greater revelation of His goodness and His glory, and
- 19:59that we can find joy in it. It is painful beyond imagination
- 20:03and it is totally worth it. It is totally worth it.
- 20:09Jesus loves you so much you can't even fathom It is totally
- 20:13worth it. Because when everything feels
- 20:16dead, it is where hope in Jesus begins.
- 20:19And then #3 belief awakens new life.
- 20:24Belief awakens new life. In the life of Martha.
- 20:29This was an absolute testing of her faith.
- 20:32She didn't understand why she had all of these questions,
- 20:35questions. Jesus didn't answer them as
- 20:37Jesus does a lot of times. But in that moment, Jesus stood
- 20:43before her and he said, Martha, your brother will rise.
- 20:47I'm going to resurrect him physically and he's going to
- 20:50rise at the second coming. He will rise again.
- 20:53There will be resurrections. But what he said to her is the
- 20:57resurrection and the life stands before you today.
- 20:59And then Jesus asked the question, do you believe it?
- 21:04Do you believe it? Do you believe that I am capable
- 21:08of giving you the things that you are desiring, the questions
- 21:12that you need answers? Do you believe that it can be
- 21:14found in me? There is a passage in John 9
- 21:19just two chapters before about a blind beggar.
- 21:22And I don't know if you guys have read this, but this man has
- 21:25been blind for decades. It's his entire life he's been
- 21:28blind and Jesus miraculously heals this man after being blind
- 21:32his whole life. And leading up to this moment,
- 21:35there are so many different parties involved and all these
- 21:38things going on. You have the disciples asking
- 21:41Jesus, was this guy blind because of his sin or his
- 21:43parents sin? And Jesus addresses that and
- 21:46then he heals them. And then people, his neighbors
- 21:48walk by and then they're looking at the blind guy saying, is this
- 21:51him? Some say yes, some say no.
- 21:53The Pharisees get wind that Jesus has healed on a Sunday.
- 21:57So then they get involved and they're trying to put these
- 21:59claims on Jesus. And then the Pharisees call in
- 22:02the blind guys, mom and dad, and say, is this the guy?
- 22:04And you have all of this commotion.
- 22:07He's just healed this man. And it's said that they kicked
- 22:11him out of the temple, the blind man.
- 22:13So he goes out and listen to this.
- 22:15It says Jesus followed him. And I imagine this moment with
- 22:20this blind man, as he's standing there, he's received this
- 22:24miracle. He just got ostracized from the
- 22:27temple and everything becomes silent.
- 22:31He's standing face to face with Jesus.
- 22:34All of his hardship from the past, all of the brokenness that
- 22:36he's experienced, all of the opinions of others, his
- 22:39neighbors, his friends, his mom and dad, it's all just quiet.
- 22:45And Jesus looks at this man and says, do you believe in the Son
- 22:48of God? And at that moment that man had
- 22:52to make a choice to believe. And it says, he said, I believe.
- 22:59And he began to worship the Lord, began to worship the Lord.
- 23:05He had lost sight of all of his trauma, all of the years of
- 23:08hardship, the suffering, all of those moments asking God, why
- 23:13did you let this happen? And all he could see was Jesus.
- 23:18I spent so many years looking at the past injustices that have
- 23:21happened in my life, all of the trauma, my own decisions, and I
- 23:25couldn't see Jesus because my eyes were fixed on them.
- 23:30But I had to make a choice to look at Jesus.
- 23:32The blind man had to make a choice to look at Jesus.
- 23:35Martha is in the same situation. She couldn't see God, but then
- 23:41she chose to believe that Jesus had a plan and it was for her
- 23:45good. And you may be experiencing a
- 23:48Martha moment today where life is so upside down, so backward,
- 23:54so confusing, so it's all burning to the ground that you
- 23:58cannot see God and what He is doing and you have not trusted
- 24:04the Lord with your life. But it's also become too
- 24:08overwhelming to continue. Or you may be sitting here
- 24:11today, like Me 2 1/2 years ago, where you look forward, you look
- 24:15backward, you look left, you look right, it's all cinder and
- 24:17ashes, It is all just gone. And you've known, you've
- 24:26reasoned that God is good, that he is maybe has a plan for your
- 24:33life. You've seen him work in other
- 24:35people's lives. But you have not yet got to the
- 24:37point of believing. And if you are feeling that call
- 24:42today, I want to give you an opportunity to accept the Lord
- 24:46as your Savior if He is beckoning you and calling you
- 24:50today. This is what Romans 10-9 would
- 24:52say. It simply says, if you confess
- 24:57with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and here it is, if you
- 25:03believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you
- 25:05will be saved. You don't have to work for
- 25:09salvation. You don't have to put all of the
- 25:11pieces together. You just have to believe.
- 25:16Martha had to believe that God had a plan.
- 25:22If we all could, if we could all bow our heads and close our
- 25:24eyes. If you believe that God is
- 25:31calling you and this life has become overwhelming, it's
- 25:34unmanageable. And although that you have known
- 25:37about this Jesus person, you have not yet trusted him.
- 25:40But you know in this moment God is calling you to eternal life
- 25:45in heaven and also eternal life in this moment.
- 25:49I want you to pray this prayer after me, either silently or to
- 25:52yourself. Father, I know that I am a
- 25:58Sinner and I cannot do this life on my own.
- 26:05Today I choose to believe that through Jesus life, his death,
- 26:10his resurrection, that I will be saved.
- 26:16Help me live a life that is marked by trusting you in every
- 26:19situation in Jesus name, Amen. Keep your heads bowed real
- 26:23quick. If you prayed that prayer for
- 26:26the first time, can you be brave and just raise your hand for me
- 26:29to see? Thank you, Lord.
- 26:31Thank you, Lord. All right, you could put your
- 26:33hands down if you prayed that prayer.
- 26:38OK, you guys could put your heads up now.
- 26:39Sorry. If you prayed that prayer for
- 26:43the first time and you believed in your heart for the first
- 26:45time, I want to say welcome to the family of God, Praise the
- 26:50Lord. We're going to have a gift for
- 26:52you who all accepted the Lord. They're going to be on the back
- 26:54tables and on the way out. You guys can grab that gift.
- 26:59So application. So what does this look like?
- 27:01So what if today we chose to believe?
- 27:05What if today we say, hey, I have been through the wringer,
- 27:09it is real, it's valid, but I am choosing today to believe that
- 27:13God is good and he has a plan. What would that look like?
- 27:17Point #1 It would look like living your life around people
- 27:22who believe. OK, I'm going to offend some
- 27:25people right now and it's OK. I don't mean people who go to
- 27:28church. I don't mean people who've been
- 27:31baptized. I mean people in every and all
- 27:34situations of their life, the answer of their heart is praise
- 27:38God. Do you know those people?
- 27:41I know them. I see them a mile away and I'm
- 27:44like, man, I just want to be in their shadow to like rub the
- 27:46holiness off on me. Get around those people that if
- 27:50it's hardship, the response of their heart is joy.
- 27:54Jesus is so good. It's joy if it's blessing, it's
- 27:58joy if it's the mundane. They're just like, hey, praise
- 28:03God. I do the same thing every day,
- 28:05Praise the Lord. Be around those people.
- 28:07What does that look like? You get plugged into a small
- 28:10group. We do community here at RES.
- 28:12It's small groups. You can come up to one of the
- 28:15leaders or one of the staff after and we can get you guys
- 28:17plugged in. And when you get into that small
- 28:19group, man, you get like, like thermal vision, and you find the
- 28:24people who are seeking God in that group and you go, man, I
- 28:27want to believe more. I want to get through this
- 28:30situation more. I want to see God and all of it.
- 28:32And that happens by hanging out with people utterly filled with
- 28:36the Spirit of God. And they will encourage life
- 28:39into you. Get around people who believe #2
- 28:45the word of God begins to change you when you decide to believe.
- 28:49It is nearly impossible. And I say this from experience,
- 28:52OK? It is nearly impossible to trust
- 28:55God and suffering if you don't have spiritual eyes, but instead
- 28:59you got a worldly mind. We do not conform to the
- 29:04patterns of the world. Listen to what Romans 12/2 says.
- 29:07Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be
- 29:10transformed by the renewal of your mind that by testing you
- 29:16may discern what the will of God is, what is good and acceptable
- 29:19and perfect. We don't want to do what the
- 29:21world does. I don't want to act the way the
- 29:22world does. It offers me nothing.
- 29:24There's death, it's death out there and they wrap it in a
- 29:28pretty box and they say, here you go, take it as I'm dying
- 29:33from depression and anxiety. No, I don't want to be conformed
- 29:36to the pattern of this world. I want to be transformed by the
- 29:40word of God. As I encounter Jesus.
- 29:43That's what I want. It's Jesus.
- 29:46Faith comes by hearing. You want to grow your faith.
- 29:48You want to grow belief. It's through the Word of God.
- 29:49Bible reading plans are amazing. Watch the word of God begin to
- 29:54change your heart. But you approach the word and
- 29:57not in cold rigor. And you just check your boxes
- 30:01and I've done it for today. But you open the word and you
- 30:04say, Lord have mercy on my heart for I am broken and feeble and I
- 30:08can't do this on my own. And I'm so fleshly I can't even
- 30:11see you have mercy on me. And you know what God will do.
- 30:15He'll show himself to you. It says draw near to the Lord
- 30:19and he will draw near to you. Our prayer team is going to come
- 30:23up at this time. Thank you prayer team.
- 30:28We want nothing more than to pray for you.
- 30:31I mean, you guys are like me. I know that I'm having
- 30:33situations all day long where I'm like, Lord, I need prayer.
- 30:37Help me, help me with the kids, help me with having joy in my
- 30:40job, joy when I'm broke. The finances don't make sense.
- 30:44I don't know how I'm going to make it the next month.
- 30:46We want to pray for you. Our goal is that you would
- 30:49encounter Jesus. He doesn't just offer you
- 30:53resurrection. He is the resurrection.
- 30:56He doesn't just offer you life, He is the life and He stands
- 31:00before you today. The altars are open.
- 31:04You all move as the Lord leads. Thank you.
