- 0:15Speaker 1: theming buck bus things and true good it. Steve listening
- 0:24Speaker 1: to together for Star, please don't join joined me to
- 0:51Speaker 1: be with me. You gotta turn, you gotta turn to
- 1:41Speaker 1: turn them out. Got to turn them out, to turn
- 1:46Speaker 1: the water the water. Come, come on your baby at it.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Uh huh. I shall win him. Come morning, everybody you
- 2:04Speaker 1: are listening to the voice, come on dig me now.
- 2:07Speaker 1: One and only Steve Harvey got a radio show man,
- 2:12Speaker 1: o man, o man. How many times I got to
- 2:15Speaker 1: say that before I get tired of it. I think
- 2:19Speaker 1: it's gonna be a minute, folks. I gotta be real
- 2:21Speaker 1: with you, because, boy, that Steve Harvey got a radio
- 2:24Speaker 1: show man. Clear indication of how God can do some unexpected,
- 2:32Speaker 1: wonderful things for you, how he leads your life in
- 2:36Speaker 1: directions that you never ever saw coming. You know, I
- 2:38Speaker 1: was talking with somebody the other day and they were
- 2:41Speaker 1: talking about how man, they were young, and they were
- 2:44Speaker 1: doing things, and they never knew that the things that
- 2:47Speaker 1: they were doing as a youngster would come and helped
- 2:52Speaker 1: form who they were today as an adult. This guy's
- 2:56Speaker 1: fifty years old, and you know the same thing for you,
- 2:59Speaker 1: If you look back on your life and all of
- 3:02Speaker 1: the things that you've done, it helps shape you into
- 3:06Speaker 1: who you are now. This is provided now that you
- 3:10Speaker 1: take the positive approach. Now when I say look back
- 3:14Speaker 1: at your life and see what you've done, that doesn't
- 3:16Speaker 1: mean dwell on the misfortunate moments. Because the misfortunate moments
- 3:21Speaker 1: were necessary. I know it. It's hard to see that
- 3:23Speaker 1: when it's happening to you, but the unfortunate moments are necessary.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You know, what really makes you appreciate summer vacation is
- 3:33Speaker 1: winter work. What really makes you appreciate a walk on
- 3:37Speaker 1: the beach, it's when it's cold, it is raining outside.
- 3:41Speaker 1: What really makes you appreciate when you're up, it's because
- 3:45Speaker 1: you've been down. See if you are up all the time.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Just the nature of us as human beings, we would
- 3:53Speaker 1: lose our appreciation for because it becomes case urah, whatever
- 3:57Speaker 1: it is, Well, it is what it is. I'm just
- 4:00Speaker 1: what what what you take it for? Granted, it becomes expected.
- 4:03Speaker 1: But what happens in life, say, is it has so
- 4:06Speaker 1: many twisting turns and then you learn how to deal
- 4:09Speaker 1: with those twisting turns, which makes you now a more
- 4:12Speaker 1: experienced person. And then when the sunny days come, man,
- 4:15Speaker 1: you go wild. It's really nice outside. You really want
- 4:18Speaker 1: to appreciate how warm weather. Just stay in a bunch
- 4:21Speaker 1: of cold weather all the time. I'm you know what
- 4:23Speaker 1: I'm saying. I'm just this is really really simple and
- 4:26Speaker 1: now analogies, but it helps you along the way. Now
- 4:30Speaker 1: here's what I came to say today to everybody out there.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And this has helped me in my life. I can't
- 4:37Speaker 1: tell you what it's done for me, but a lot
- 4:40Speaker 1: of people are struggling with moving forward with their future,
- 4:45Speaker 1: their future plans, their future goals, their future aspirations, their
- 4:51Speaker 1: future hopes, their future dreams. Just simply that your future
- 4:57Speaker 1: wants a lot of people trying to have a hard
- 5:00Speaker 1: time mapping out their future. Even what I'm gonna do,
- 5:03Speaker 1: what I'm gonna be, what I'm gonna make ham or
- 5:07Speaker 1: go about it? What do I do next? I want
- 5:10Speaker 1: to share something with you that I had to come
- 5:12Speaker 1: to terms with. The quickest way to lose focus on
- 5:17Speaker 1: your future is to keep focusing on your past. You know,
- 5:21Speaker 1: It's like I said at the beginning, you know, when
- 5:23Speaker 1: I say it's wonderful to look at your life and
- 5:26Speaker 1: review it, because if you look at it, it'll tell
- 5:29Speaker 1: you it really helps shape inform you today as the
- 5:34Speaker 1: person you are now. If you look at it in
- 5:37Speaker 1: a positive sense. But if you dwell in harp on
- 5:40Speaker 1: the negative that's happened to you, then that keeps you
- 5:44Speaker 1: from seeing the good in the incident, every bad thing
- 5:47Speaker 1: that's happened to you, that was a silver lining behind it.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I know people who were on drugs who finally, man
- 5:54Speaker 1: just got sent to prison for stealing because of their habit.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I know Cat that's so dope. Well, he went to prison.
- 6:02Speaker 1: He told me one time. He said, Steve, it's a man.
- 6:05Speaker 1: This is the best thing ever happened to me to
- 6:07Speaker 1: save my life. Now, most people would think, how in
- 6:10Speaker 1: the world is going to prison helpful for you? The
- 6:13Speaker 1: brother said, it saved my life. First of all, it
- 6:17Speaker 1: got me clean. He said, I've been cleaned for five
- 6:20Speaker 1: years from sitting in him. That's for starters. I'm cleaned.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I ain't still in no more. I ain't putting myself
- 6:27Speaker 1: in jeopard and I ain't jeopardizing nobody else. He said. Now, man,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I don't went to college. I didn't got a college
- 6:33Speaker 1: degree while I met him. Then he was released from prison,
- 6:38Speaker 1: and the brother's life was completely turned around. He married,
- 6:42Speaker 1: he got a family, he got a great job. He'd
- 6:45Speaker 1: go to work every day. He's a productive citizen. I mean.
- 6:49Speaker 1: So he looks back on his incarceration, even his drug abuse,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and it taught him how to appreciate the things in
- 6:58Speaker 1: life that he had taken for granted and was missing
- 7:00Speaker 1: because he said, man, my life was just in a blur.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I didn't even know what was going on. He said,
- 7:06Speaker 1: Now I appreciate every day I wake up. That's what
- 7:09Speaker 1: I mean. Even in your missteps in life, there is
- 7:13Speaker 1: a purpose for the missteps. Every time you fail, there
- 7:17Speaker 1: was a reason for the failure. See what I had
- 7:20Speaker 1: to do was I had to learn that all of
- 7:22Speaker 1: my failures taught me how to get back up. So
- 7:26Speaker 1: I became a very strong and tough person in getting
- 7:29Speaker 1: back up. And then I was down and out so
- 7:32Speaker 1: long that it taught me how to really appreciate the up.
- 7:36Speaker 1: And so I've taken all of that and used it
- 7:40Speaker 1: those experiences that happened to me, and I became a
- 7:44Speaker 1: more experienced person. So next time when people talk about
- 7:47Speaker 1: me who don't know me. It don't shake me because
- 7:51Speaker 1: everybody's not gonna like you. Man, you might as well
- 7:53Speaker 1: gonna get on this train right now. And so what
- 7:57Speaker 1: I'm saying to you out there is the quickest way
- 7:59Speaker 1: to focus on your future is to keep focusing on
- 8:02Speaker 1: your path. Let it go. Yeah yeah, yeah, he left.
- 8:06Speaker 1: But like I told us lady on my TV show
- 8:08Speaker 1: the other day, sometimes the breakup is the blessing. I
- 8:12Speaker 1: know it's hard to break up because now you're loaning
- 8:14Speaker 1: you by yourself. But man, but when you're in misery,
- 8:17Speaker 1: When you was in that, weren't you in complete misery
- 8:21Speaker 1: in that? Now you kept asking God to fix it.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But it takes two people to fix a relationship. It
- 8:27Speaker 1: don't just take one. It takes two to make a
- 8:30Speaker 1: thing go right. It takes two to make it out
- 8:34Speaker 1: of sight. You really do have to have two people
- 8:37Speaker 1: wanting a relationship to work. It can't just be one
- 8:39Speaker 1: person want a relationship, so you can pray about the
- 8:42Speaker 1: relationship all you want. If the other person don't want
- 8:45Speaker 1: you no more and ain't gonna act right, you can't
- 8:48Speaker 1: make him do that or you can't make her do that.
- 8:51Speaker 1: But you steady asking God for a new relationship, but
- 8:56Speaker 1: you are yet to be grateful that you are in
- 8:59Speaker 1: a position to have a relationship. And you keep harping
- 9:03Speaker 1: on the pass. You don't think he hear that. I'm
- 9:05Speaker 1: just a dude with a show, and I hear it
- 9:07Speaker 1: all the time. Let it go, go forward. It's over.
- 9:12Speaker 1: You made it, He bought you through it. You survived it.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Why are you dwelling on it and making it the
- 9:19Speaker 1: cross around your neck when clearly He had removed it
- 9:23Speaker 1: for you. Now, all you got to do is come on.
- 9:27Speaker 1: So if you're sitting behind him walls, brothers and sisters,
- 9:29Speaker 1: I'm talking directly to you sometimes. Man, you just got
- 9:33Speaker 1: to get it right. All this repeat of fitting the
- 9:36Speaker 1: business that's for? Who is that for? How ignorant can
- 9:39Speaker 1: you be to keep giving your life back to the
- 9:42Speaker 1: penal system? Be free, man, walk the streets, do the
- 9:45Speaker 1: right thing. Ask God to help connect you. He could
- 9:48Speaker 1: do anything. You think he can't give you a job?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Are you serious? Man? Put some faith on it. Let's
- 9:54Speaker 1: move forward, y'all. Let it go. Let's move ladies. And
- 10:01Speaker 1: Jimmy just says the Steve Harvey Morning Show, Uh, it's
- 10:05Speaker 1: gonna be a little bit different today. I'll admit, you know,
- 10:07Speaker 1: it's gonna be a little touchy because I think everybody's
- 10:12Speaker 1: reeling from the news. But this is the Steve Harvey
- 10:14Speaker 1: Morning Show. So here we go, so grateful that we
- 10:19Speaker 1: are here. Thank you Father God for that, and just
- 10:24Speaker 1: I thank him ahead of time for strength for everybody
- 10:28Speaker 1: who deals with grief in a certain way. But this
- 10:31Speaker 1: is the Steve Harvey Morning Show, and we are here.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Uh uh, you know, these are these are the things
- 10:37Speaker 1: that we grapple with in life, you know, the comings,
- 10:40Speaker 1: the goings, the grief, the sorrow, the upstair down. It's
- 10:43Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of victories along the way too.
- 10:45Speaker 1: But today we're here. We're here. Shirley Strawberry, Hey, good morning, Steve,
- 10:51Speaker 1: Colin Pharrell, Good morning crew. What's going on? How you doing?
- 10:55Speaker 1: It's junior boy morning up in the building. Yes, could
- 11:01Speaker 1: I hear from the food, yes, present, And so you know,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I mean, look, the number one topic, it's the passing
- 11:16Speaker 1: of the basketball great Kobe Bryant. And I mean, you know,
- 11:20Speaker 1: I mean we'll be dealing with it today, We'll be
- 11:23Speaker 1: dealing with it for a while. I mean, you know,
- 11:24Speaker 1: this is a was a monumental player in the game
- 11:27Speaker 1: of basketball, but for the culture also, I believe, you know,
- 11:34Speaker 1: I think because Kobe, this generation of young people, Um,
- 11:40Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant was there, Michael Jordan's so to speak, um
- 11:47Speaker 1: in terms of basketball, and I mean, this dude is
- 11:50Speaker 1: famous globally. Man, this is not a This boy's jersey
- 11:56Speaker 1: is everywhere. Man, great guys, So here we are. Yeah,
- 12:01Speaker 1: who would ever think that we would be here? Because
- 12:04Speaker 1: this news was just so devastatingly shocking. I mean the
- 12:10Speaker 1: first thing that I've talked to, everyone said, Steve, I'm sure,
- 12:15Speaker 1: including you, said no, this can't be true. This can't
- 12:18Speaker 1: be true. Yeah, everyone was initially yeah, everyone was yeah. Yeah.
- 12:28Speaker 1: The first three people that called me, I said, hey, man,
- 12:30Speaker 1: you kind of hold up that. I kept saying that
- 12:33Speaker 1: don't sound right. And then I went online and then
- 12:38Speaker 1: it started coming down as to what really really happened,
- 12:40Speaker 1: And um, I mean, man, it really wiped my day
- 12:46Speaker 1: out yesterday, I mean completely wiped it out, took the
- 12:50Speaker 1: whole thing away. Yeah, and this heartbreaking, is heartbreaking, unthinkable news, right,
- 12:56Speaker 1: And whether you're a basketball fan or not, a Laker
- 12:59Speaker 1: fan or not, this touched everyone everywhere. He was talking
- 13:03Speaker 1: about this, I mean seriously, because he was he was
- 13:06Speaker 1: more than basketball. He was only forty one years old too,
- 13:11Speaker 1: and his daughter and his daughter, thirteen year old daughter daughter,
- 13:15Speaker 1: And at first, you know, I didn't get that news,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and then you know, the rumor started coming. So we'll
- 13:23Speaker 1: be talking about it to try to give everybody a
- 13:25Speaker 1: chance to vent. You know, sometimes you just had to
- 13:27Speaker 1: get it out. Yeah, all right, Coming up at thirty
- 13:32Speaker 1: two minutes after the hour, we'll talk more about this
- 13:36Speaker 1: tragedy Kobe Bryant and his daughter on the Steve Harvey
- 13:40Speaker 1: Morning Show coming up right after this. You're listening, all right,
- 13:46Speaker 1: So Steve um, as we said when we opened the show,
- 13:50Speaker 1: we're just heartbroken this morning. Yesterday, one of the greatest
- 13:54Speaker 1: NBA players of all time, uh Kobe Bryant and his
- 13:58Speaker 1: thirteen year old daughter, Gianni they called her Gianna, they
- 14:02Speaker 1: called her Gigi, were among the nine people who died
- 14:07Speaker 1: in a tragic helicopter accident to Kobe's private private helicopter
- 14:12Speaker 1: went down in Calabasas, California. Kobe was forty one years old.
- 14:17Speaker 1: The world, the world is reeling from this tragic loss. Fans,
- 14:23Speaker 1: friend celebrities including Michael Jordan, President Barack Obama, Tom Brady,
- 14:28Speaker 1: Magic Johnson, Doc Rivers, Lebron James, Dwayne Man. What I
- 14:33Speaker 1: heard when when they interviewed Doc Rivers on TV. I mean, man,
- 14:39Speaker 1: it was it was. It was so hard. Another one.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I went to NBA Live and Brian Shaw is a commentator,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and he played a lot of pictures of him, Kobe
- 14:48Speaker 1: in the training room and stuff. He played this brother
- 14:52Speaker 1: was crying so openly on TV. Doc Rivers was bent
- 14:56Speaker 1: out of shape. And when I saw Jerry West, who
- 15:00Speaker 1: is the one who picked Kobe Bryant out of high school?
- 15:04Speaker 1: Uh this when these people are these people's reaction was pure, man,
- 15:11Speaker 1: And it was it was. It was really hard, man.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I mean, you know, like you said, surely it wasn't
- 15:20Speaker 1: uh just that he was a basketball player. I think
- 15:24Speaker 1: you know, you look at forty one years old and
- 15:28Speaker 1: you think, uh, I mean he had a family, man,
- 15:31Speaker 1: just dud had beautiful daughters. Man, mother and you know
- 15:39Speaker 1: how you know you all are mothers. How on the
- 15:44Speaker 1: same day do you lose your husband and one of
- 15:48Speaker 1: your children. Unimaginable, It's just unimaginable, thinking, unthinkable, The devastation
- 15:57Speaker 1: and the heartache that you will probably never ever heal from. Yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 1: you will never It will be something that you just
- 16:08Speaker 1: have to learn to live with. Yea, because she has
- 16:12Speaker 1: other children. She just had a baby last year. She
- 16:15Speaker 1: had just had a daughter last year. I guess they
- 16:19Speaker 1: were trying, you know, for a son for Kobe because
- 16:21Speaker 1: he already had three. You don't get over. That's why
- 16:25Speaker 1: I said, you learn to live with this. And she
- 16:28Speaker 1: has to for her other daughters. She has to keep
- 16:31Speaker 1: going because she's a mother. But Steve, like you said,
- 16:33Speaker 1: it's just, you know, my heart is just goes out
- 16:39Speaker 1: to her. His parents. Yeah, his parents and Joe and
- 16:43Speaker 1: Pam Bryant, Kobe's parents. They lost a granddaughter, they lost
- 16:47Speaker 1: a son, all at one time. His sisters. Kobe has sisters.
- 16:53Speaker 1: It's unimaginable. It just really really is. So what are
- 16:56Speaker 1: the reports? What what was the that was? What was
- 16:59Speaker 1: the total number? Did anybody know the total number of people?
- 17:02Speaker 1: I'm here on the nine Yeah, I'm here nine. I
- 17:05Speaker 1: don't know if it's nine plus the pilot or nine.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I don't I don't know how that's adding up. It
- 17:13Speaker 1: started out with five, then it's then it's at nine. Yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 1: and the Starter GG were among the nine killed. But
- 17:23Speaker 1: let me ask you this, Steve, I don't know a
- 17:25Speaker 1: lot about helicopters. You know, I've been on one on
- 17:31Speaker 1: a tour, on vacation with you know, for four or
- 17:34Speaker 1: five people in the I mean, how many does it hold?
- 17:37Speaker 1: I mean, I mean they got big helicopters. I've seen
- 17:41Speaker 1: twelve people on the helicopter easy. I don't think that
- 17:44Speaker 1: they would do anything that wasn't safe or in compliance.
- 17:49Speaker 1: You know, people people don't have to do that. He got,
- 17:52Speaker 1: you know, you know, we all got we got to
- 17:54Speaker 1: pack on here. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case,
- 17:58Speaker 1: you know, because you know, people don't normally take unnecessary
- 18:03Speaker 1: risks with their lives trying to save money, is what
- 18:07Speaker 1: I'm saying. You know, I don't think that you know,
- 18:10Speaker 1: anybody would go, well let's pack them on here anyway,
- 18:12Speaker 1: because you know, yeah, not especially a helicopter. You know,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I don't know a lot about helicopters. I fly. I'm
- 18:20Speaker 1: quite I've flown in them quite often. I take them
- 18:23Speaker 1: in New York sometimes when I land at the airstrip
- 18:26Speaker 1: and I don't don't want to deal with traffic. Doctor
- 18:29Speaker 1: Phield taught me to take a helicopter from Teterborough over
- 18:34Speaker 1: to thirty fourth Street and then get in the car
- 18:36Speaker 1: from there save traffic. You know, I've done it on vacations.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I do it, you know, when I'm traveling abroad. But
- 18:44Speaker 1: all I know is single engine and twin engine. And
- 18:48Speaker 1: I will not get in a helicopter that's not twin
- 18:51Speaker 1: engine because I always thought, since we're just dealing with
- 18:54Speaker 1: this one blade up here, I'm gonna need two engines
- 18:57Speaker 1: because one go out, I want to know that you
- 19:01Speaker 1: can clutch this other one on. And I really don't
- 19:03Speaker 1: even know if that would help me. I'm just, you know,
- 19:06Speaker 1: just that's the black in me. Just won't two ages,
- 19:10Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I don't know nothing really
- 19:13Speaker 1: about how helicopters work. I know it's beautiful when you're
- 19:17Speaker 1: in one. It's scary. Those mosquito or helicopters are scary,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you know, the ones that look like a little bulb.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, not those. I don't.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I don't do that because I did the first time
- 19:32Speaker 1: I ever got on one was that in Atlanta. I
- 19:35Speaker 1: went to a horse race in one of them. And
- 19:37Speaker 1: I'll never getting in another one of them, because like
- 19:40Speaker 1: the little bubble, you look down at your feet and
- 19:43Speaker 1: this glass and it was just too much for me.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I just shut my eyes the first time. And then
- 19:49Speaker 1: I found out that there were other types of helicopters,
- 19:53Speaker 1: and that's what I started riding in, you know. But
- 19:58Speaker 1: you know, it's just the fact that the fat yeah,
- 20:02Speaker 1: because it was foggy, very foggy, and they circled and
- 20:06Speaker 1: circled and circled around. But but you know, like we
- 20:09Speaker 1: were saying earlier, guys, it's beyond basketball because the people
- 20:14Speaker 1: that really knew Kobe talked about what a great dad
- 20:17Speaker 1: he was. He was such a great dad to his
- 20:20Speaker 1: four daughters, you know, and he got teased a lot
- 20:23Speaker 1: because he had daughters and no sons, you know, and
- 20:27Speaker 1: and all of this. But but they were saying the
- 20:29Speaker 1: relationship that he had with his daughters was just unbelievable.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I mean, there was so much love there, you know. Surety,
- 20:36Speaker 1: I've seen videos of him playing one oh one with
- 20:40Speaker 1: this young girl and him him just teaching Tommy hold
- 20:46Speaker 1: that thought right there, man. We'll be right back, y'all more.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Steve Harvey Morny Show, you're listening, coming up at the
- 20:55Speaker 1: top of the hour of Miss Anna is standing by
- 20:57Speaker 1: with today's national news. Also on entertain aim at News,
- 21:00Speaker 1: we'll talk about music's biggest night, the sixty second Annual
- 21:03Speaker 1: Grammy Awards. We'll talk about that at the top of
- 21:06Speaker 1: the hour, but right now we're still talking about and
- 21:09Speaker 1: mourning the devastating loss of the one and only Kobe Bryant,
- 21:14Speaker 1: one of NBA's greatest basketball players ever. Um did you
- 21:20Speaker 1: guys hear? Um? When one of the reporters on MSNBC,
- 21:26Speaker 1: I think her name is Alison Morris, she was talking
- 21:29Speaker 1: about the death of Ko Kobe Bryant, and she mistakenly
- 21:34Speaker 1: said the N word. I think it was a miss
- 21:38Speaker 1: Take a listen, take a listener on the Los Angeles
- 21:45Speaker 1: Los Angeles Wait what yeah, yeah, nah, It's so sad.
- 21:55Speaker 1: That's the only word it came to her head was
- 21:58Speaker 1: the word. Well, I mean, what does she think she's saying? What? What? What?
- 22:04Speaker 1: What was the mistake? But he never played for one team?
- 22:11Speaker 1: That was her explanation. Does anybody have her explanation? She
- 22:16Speaker 1: tweeted out. Alison Morris she tweeted out earlier today while
- 22:20Speaker 1: reporting on the tragic news of Kobe Bryant's passing. I
- 22:25Speaker 1: unfortunately stuttered on air, combining the names of the Knicks
- 22:32Speaker 1: and the Lakers to say Nakers. Please know I did
- 22:37Speaker 1: not and would never use a racist term. I apologize
- 22:43Speaker 1: for the confusion that this call. You got to go,
- 22:47Speaker 1: She got to go. Who worked for confusion? The only
- 22:51Speaker 1: person that's confusion? She got to go. I don't care
- 22:55Speaker 1: if she ain't gole out in the field. She got
- 22:57Speaker 1: to go. We're not confused. And one thing us in
- 23:01Speaker 1: words can hit is the word in words you can
- 23:03Speaker 1: hear that very man. No, man, I mean it's not.
- 23:13Speaker 1: And you know, see when she said I stuttered, you're
- 23:16Speaker 1: talking to a person who really stuttered severely. And when
- 23:23Speaker 1: you started, you don't you don't really mispronounce a lot
- 23:27Speaker 1: of words. Now, she stumbled, I don't even know how
- 23:31Speaker 1: you could say you got that confused with the Knicks.
- 23:33Speaker 1: What do the Knicks have to do with the story? Exactly?
- 23:37Speaker 1: If you're a reporter, even if you're not a sports fan,
- 23:41Speaker 1: where did you get knicks from? So if you're not
- 23:44Speaker 1: a sports fan, and where did you get knicks from?
- 23:48Speaker 1: And Lakers? But should have been apologized immediately, but she
- 23:58Speaker 1: said it so quick and then you know what she
- 24:00Speaker 1: said was, you know, let's stay with us and like,
- 24:03Speaker 1: you know, like maybe if I pair of them get
- 24:05Speaker 1: through this. Ain't nobody to hear it. What it was
- 24:10Speaker 1: some camera men and everything looking at her and so
- 24:14Speaker 1: crazy when she said that, Yep, I don't care about
- 24:19Speaker 1: the apology. I don't care when it came or when
- 24:20Speaker 1: it should have came. She need to be gone immediately.
- 24:25Speaker 1: It's hard to imagine that there's not some disciplinary action
- 24:29Speaker 1: behind that right there. That's just too because it's too blatant.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's hard to confuse that with anything.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I didn't hear kay constant nowhere. You mean for for
- 24:42Speaker 1: laker makers? Yeah, makers, Yeah, no, no, yeah, I just
- 24:50Speaker 1: I mean when where you get that from? I mean, yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 1: I don't know. I got that igger in that. That's why,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I mean, all of it she need she went and
- 25:00Speaker 1: she got it all. I mean, she said, all right,
- 25:02Speaker 1: it wasn't like a part of it. No, no, no,
- 25:06Speaker 1: it's the whole word. It's the whole word what we're
- 25:10Speaker 1: called every day and we know that it's racist. And
- 25:13Speaker 1: it doesn't sound like a mistake to me. At Fox.
- 25:16Speaker 1: She said it before she worked at Fox. I think
- 25:19Speaker 1: I ain't saying anything, ain't you. She's been saying see yeah, no, no, no,
- 25:24Speaker 1: you've been saying yeah, I don't even know, and then
- 25:26Speaker 1: your first time saying that word, because it was crystal
- 25:29Speaker 1: clearly yeah, yeah, that's what I missed. The fact that
- 25:35Speaker 1: if that, if it was such a mistake, why didn't
- 25:38Speaker 1: you stop catch it right then and just say I
- 25:40Speaker 1: am so sorry that. See, let me give you an
- 25:44Speaker 1: example of what I'm talking about. Okay, amphasisis this antithesis
- 25:54Speaker 1: that fiscope all ambiance. Let me give you another one,
- 26:10Speaker 1: therapeutically statistically unabashed. Now. The reason I'm doing that is
- 26:21Speaker 1: discuss these are words that are normally you're not gonna
- 26:26Speaker 1: hear come out of my mouth because these are words
- 26:31Speaker 1: I'm very very unfamiliar with, very very uncomfortable with, and
- 26:38Speaker 1: I sound that's when I'm saying them that I'm uncomfortable
- 26:42Speaker 1: with it. Stethoscope is a word that I've never been
- 26:47Speaker 1: comfortable saying. So it's not gonna just flow out of me.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I ain't one day gonna see this thing on that
- 26:52Speaker 1: doctor's neck and then nail it. I have to focus
- 26:56Speaker 1: to try to say it, to say it. You know
- 26:59Speaker 1: what I mean. There's another word. Oh no, what's that
- 27:04Speaker 1: word where the radio Shirley, where you had to correct
- 27:07Speaker 1: me on that, I use just one acumen acumen. Acumen
- 27:13Speaker 1: is a word because I thought it was business acum. Yeah,
- 27:17Speaker 1: I thought always thought it was acute, business acute. I
- 27:20Speaker 1: always thought that it was sword fish. Yeah. I just
- 27:27Speaker 1: learned that it was sword fish just a few years ago,
- 27:30Speaker 1: because I've ordered swordfish in the restaurant before, and I
- 27:34Speaker 1: noticed the white lady smirked a little bit, and I said, okay,
- 27:38Speaker 1: she don't care for swordfish. And I just found that out.
- 27:42Speaker 1: So these are words that when I say them, I
- 27:45Speaker 1: sound uncomfortable. When this woman said that, she sound very comfortable.
- 27:52Speaker 1: It was fluid, She didn't stutter. She has said this
- 27:57Speaker 1: word before many times. It's a word that's in her vocabulary, right,
- 28:04Speaker 1: it's an even these of those of them, all those
- 28:09Speaker 1: you know inwards used to be for h from these.
- 28:16Speaker 1: She said, what Fox, Fox? She said, she's seen it. Yeah,
- 28:28Speaker 1: there is something. Something has to happen, And I don't
- 28:32Speaker 1: care if it is in MSNBC, which is supposed to
- 28:35Speaker 1: be a liberal stam Yeah, I don't care. The opposite
- 28:40Speaker 1: of Fox At What difference that make to me? You know,
- 28:46Speaker 1: I think there has to be some discipline now. Should
- 28:48Speaker 1: have ruin her career for the rest of her life? No, something,
- 28:52Speaker 1: But there has to be some disciplinary action. You know,
- 28:55Speaker 1: she'ld be allowed to come back work one day. Wow.
- 28:58Speaker 1: All right, guys, coming up of the top of the hour,
- 29:01Speaker 1: some entertainment and national news right after this. You're listening. Well,
- 29:09Speaker 1: last night it was a sixty second annual Grammy Awards.
- 29:13Speaker 1: It was hosted by Alicia Keys and the opening of
- 29:16Speaker 1: the show, Alicia was, Yeah, it was really really sad.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Alicia was joined on stage by Boys to Men. They
- 29:23Speaker 1: paid tribute to Kobe Bryant. Take a listen. Here we
- 29:28Speaker 1: are together on music's biggest night, celebrating the artists that
- 29:34Speaker 1: do it best. But to be honest with you, we're
- 29:37Speaker 1: all feeling crazy sadness right now because earlier today Los Angeles,
- 29:44Speaker 1: America and the whole wide world lost a hero. And
- 29:50Speaker 1: we're literally standing here heartbroken in the house that Kobe
- 29:58Speaker 1: Bryant built right now. Kobe and his daughter Gianna and
- 30:13Speaker 1: all of those that are that have been tragically lost
- 30:15Speaker 1: today are in our spirit, They're in our hearts. They're
- 30:19Speaker 1: in our prayers, They're in this building, and I would
- 30:24Speaker 1: like to ask everybody to take a moment and just
- 30:28Speaker 1: hold them inside of you, hold them inside of you,
- 30:31Speaker 1: and share our strength and our support with their families.
- 30:36Speaker 1: We never imagined in a million years we'd have to
- 30:39Speaker 1: start the show like this, never never, never, never, never never.
- 30:44Speaker 1: So we wanted to do something that could describe a
- 30:49Speaker 1: tiny bit how we all feel right now. It's so
- 30:55Speaker 1: hard to say goodbye to wead. There was also a
- 31:12Speaker 1: tribute to Nipsey Hustle on the Grammys led by DJ Khaled,
- 31:17Speaker 1: and in that Nipsey Hustle tribute, they also honored Kobe Bryant. So,
- 31:22Speaker 1: like Alicia Keith said, Kobe Bryant on the hearts and
- 31:25Speaker 1: minds of everyone, especially in LA, in the United States,
- 31:31Speaker 1: and around the world, I mean globally. This is this
- 31:34Speaker 1: has hit us hard right here, forty one years old. Yeah,
- 31:39Speaker 1: it's just did you see anything those fans, the Lakers
- 31:43Speaker 1: fans and just fans of Kobe Bryant, did you all
- 31:46Speaker 1: see them gather Yeah around the Staples Center and just
- 31:49Speaker 1: had a memorial moment. Yeah. LA is very very sad.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I mean, they love Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant, Right, he
- 32:00Speaker 1: was the man, he really was, right, Yeah, cat dog
- 32:04Speaker 1: you know our engineer, uh that runs the board and
- 32:08Speaker 1: takes care of us. Kat Kobe was his favorite player.
- 32:12Speaker 1: He didn't talk about anybody else but Kobe all the time.
- 32:16Speaker 1: That was his guy. Well, she named her son Kobe
- 32:20Speaker 1: after Kobe Bryant. I mean it's serious with all these people.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Remember remember when Brandy took her to took him to
- 32:30Speaker 1: her prom uh years ago. Yeah, that was a moment,
- 32:35Speaker 1: you know. And he was in a Destiny's Child video.
- 32:38Speaker 1: He won an Oscar last year, he won an Oscar,
- 32:43Speaker 1: an Academy Award made He made music too, Yeah, made music. Yeah,
- 32:49Speaker 1: he was something special. He certainly was. Um. Magic Johnson
- 32:53Speaker 1: called him the greatest laker of all time. Magic Johnson
- 32:57Speaker 1: called him that the greatest laker of all time. He
- 33:01Speaker 1: said he was a friend, a legend, husband, father, son, brother,
- 33:04Speaker 1: Oscar winner and greatest laker of all time. All right, Steve,
- 33:10Speaker 1: time to get to today's headlines, please, ladies and gentlemen,
- 33:13Speaker 1: miss A and Trip, thank you very much. This is
- 33:16Speaker 1: and two with the news. That's right. The world does
- 33:19Speaker 1: still more in Kobe Bryant In fact, his crowds converge
- 33:22Speaker 1: yesterday evening onto La Staples, Senator honored the stars of
- 33:25Speaker 1: music at the Grammys. They were met by the throngs
- 33:28Speaker 1: of people who had been their old day, commiserating with
- 33:31Speaker 1: each other over the untimely and shocking death of Kobe
- 33:33Speaker 1: Bryant and his daughter. Both the FAA and the National
- 33:36Speaker 1: Transportation Safety boarder on the scene of the helicopter crash
- 33:40Speaker 1: that caused a quarter acre brush fire by the way
- 33:42Speaker 1: where LA Sheriff Alex Vinyon Wuava says that the NBA
- 33:46Speaker 1: legend and his thirteen year old daughter, Gianna were among
- 33:48Speaker 1: the people killed. We have a manifest that indication that
- 33:51Speaker 1: there was nine people on board the aircraft, the pilot
- 33:54Speaker 1: plus eight individuals at least. For first there was a
- 33:57Speaker 1: report there were only three people, and then there was
- 33:59Speaker 1: a report that they were five people. Finally that they
- 34:01Speaker 1: say that there were nine people. Gianna or Gig Bryant.
- 34:04Speaker 1: By the Way, a reportedly talented young basketball player and
- 34:07Speaker 1: her coach, Christina Mauser, was also on that crash copter.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Others reportedly killed included Orange coach college baseball coach John Altabelli,
- 34:16Speaker 1: along with his wife and daughter. His daughter played with
- 34:18Speaker 1: Gianni Altabelli. Altabelli was named twenty NINETEENES National Coach of
- 34:23Speaker 1: the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association, just named
- 34:27Speaker 1: that last year. There are now four makeshift morils to
- 34:30Speaker 1: Kobe today, One at the crash site in Calabasas, California,
- 34:34Speaker 1: one outside Kobe's home in Newport Beach, one outside Kobe's
- 34:37Speaker 1: Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, and one, of course,
- 34:40Speaker 1: outside Kobe's house outside Staples Center. His fellow players and
- 34:44Speaker 1: Admira is still in shock and sadness at the loss
- 34:47Speaker 1: of the forty one year old, eighteen time NBA All
- 34:50Speaker 1: Star with five NBA titles, considered one of the best
- 34:53Speaker 1: athletes period ever. Only a couple of days ago, Lebron
- 34:57Speaker 1: James broke Kobe's third place scoring records. I don't know
- 34:59Speaker 1: if you remember that, but King James could speak only
- 35:01Speaker 1: admiringly about Kobe Bryant seeing the work, ethic think that
- 35:04Speaker 1: he put into the game. He has zero flaws offensively.
- 35:08Speaker 1: He could shoot the mare range, he can post, he
- 35:10Speaker 1: can make free throws. He has zero flaws offensively, and
- 35:14Speaker 1: he was just immortal offensively because of your skill set
- 35:17Speaker 1: in your work ethic. I'm happy to just to be
- 35:19Speaker 1: in any conversation with Kobe being Bryant, one of the
- 35:22Speaker 1: all time greatest basketball players ever played, wearing all time
- 35:24Speaker 1: greatest Lakers, and Kareem Abdul Jabbar released to video this
- 35:28Speaker 1: in part. Kobe, My thoughts with you, Rest in peace,
- 35:31Speaker 1: young man. This loss is it's just hard to comprehend.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Go with God. The send An impeachment trial resumes today,
- 35:41Speaker 1: the GOP arguing against impeachment. Republicans being urged to allow
- 35:44Speaker 1: President transformer National Security advisor John Bolton to testify because
- 35:48Speaker 1: in a new book, apparently he backs up what the
- 35:50Speaker 1: Democrats are seeing. Last night's Grammy's former Lady Michelle Obama
- 35:54Speaker 1: want a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album and Bad
- 35:56Speaker 1: Boys for Life number one of the box office for
- 35:58Speaker 1: the second week so far, grossing one hundred and twenty
- 36:01Speaker 1: million domestically. Now back to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 36:04Speaker 1: You're listening to show, well, we are all just heartbroken
- 36:11Speaker 1: about the loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, his
- 36:15Speaker 1: thirteen year old daughter Gianna. Last night, sixty minutes to
- 36:19Speaker 1: air the special from a past interview when they talked
- 36:23Speaker 1: to Kobe about his childhood love of basketball. Take a
- 36:26Speaker 1: listen to this, And I played baseball growing up in Italy,
- 36:29Speaker 1: and you know, I was forced to play soccer football,
- 36:33Speaker 1: but basketball really moved to me. No other sports touched
- 36:37Speaker 1: me like the game of basketball. And then when I
- 36:38Speaker 1: would get really upset and I would get really down,
- 36:40Speaker 1: I can always pick up a basketball and go to
- 36:42Speaker 1: the playground and just shoot and just put myself in
- 36:45Speaker 1: the scenario of being in the finals game. I will
- 36:48Speaker 1: just completely get away from everything that's around me. I
- 36:51Speaker 1: can be able to park with trees and you know,
- 36:54Speaker 1: but in my mind, I'm in a gymnasium with thousands
- 36:56Speaker 1: of people going crazy, and you know, in game seven,
- 36:59Speaker 1: you know, I can just completely escape that moment and
- 37:03Speaker 1: being in a complete dream world. I love playing basketball.
- 37:08Speaker 1: It's nothing like it. This is the ball when it bounces,
- 37:11Speaker 1: the sound that it makes the smell of a basketball,
- 37:15Speaker 1: not one that's completely brand new or one that's too old,
- 37:18Speaker 1: but one that's right in the middle, it's kind of
- 37:20Speaker 1: worn down a little bit. It just smells. It smells
- 37:25Speaker 1: like NBA the nets. You shoot the ball and it
- 37:28Speaker 1: goes right through the net. That noise that it makes
- 37:31Speaker 1: when it pops in that up the sneakers as they
- 37:34Speaker 1: squeak on the wood, the strategies, the competition, the camaraderie,
- 37:41Speaker 1: the fans, and we used to go on and on
- 37:44Speaker 1: and on. See, you know when you hear somebody describe
- 37:50Speaker 1: the passion for the game like that, I mean, you know,
- 37:53Speaker 1: I mean he went on and on and on. There's
- 37:55Speaker 1: a whole thing they did in his own words about
- 37:57Speaker 1: basketball that he had recorded on a lighter note. That's
- 38:02Speaker 1: why I'm not in the league today, cause no, the
- 38:10Speaker 1: sound of the gym floor. First of all, I didn't
- 38:15Speaker 1: have that sound that the gym shoe on the floor
- 38:17Speaker 1: because I was in shoes that cost Shoes don't make
- 38:21Speaker 1: that sound. You just slide to a stop. You don't stop. Well, no,
- 38:30Speaker 1: you learned to keep dribbling, junior. When you wear shoes
- 38:34Speaker 1: that don't have grips on them, you learned that you're
- 38:37Speaker 1: not going to stop. So you add two more dribbles
- 38:44Speaker 1: and here's just ball is done. You're absolutely right, man,
- 38:55Speaker 1: that's funny. But we needed to hear that because, yeah,
- 39:02Speaker 1: did you ever have ten issues that came a loose
- 39:04Speaker 1: at the front? Steve when it was flapping. Did you
- 39:07Speaker 1: have the front you know how the pelican that's not new. No,
- 39:21Speaker 1: that happened a lot. All right, guys if Bobby shoe boy,
- 39:29Speaker 1: we'll be sharing all morning. Uh, we'll be back right
- 39:32Speaker 1: after this. You're listening to show. Yesterday, various basketball teams
- 39:39Speaker 1: paid tribute to Kobe Bryant. The New York Knicks and
- 39:42Speaker 1: the Nets had a moment of silence at Madison Square Garden.
- 39:46Speaker 1: The Raptors and Spurs uh let the twenty four second
- 39:50Speaker 1: clock expire during their first possession of the game. Mark Cuban, who,
- 39:55Speaker 1: of course, Steve you know, is the owner of the
- 39:57Speaker 1: Dallas Mavericks. He said that number twenty four will never
- 40:00Speaker 1: be worn again by the Mavericks, and d Wade said
- 40:05Speaker 1: that yesterday was the saddest day of his lifetime. Take
- 40:09Speaker 1: a listen. Today is one of the saddest days in
- 40:18Speaker 1: my lifetime. It seems like a bad it's a bad
- 40:22Speaker 1: dream you just want to wake up from. It's a nightmare.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I know we all feel the same way about such
- 40:32Speaker 1: a great that's a great leader, that's a great champion,
- 40:35Speaker 1: it's a great person. If you got a chance to
- 40:37Speaker 1: know Kobe, your a chance to really know Kobe. Nobody
- 40:41Speaker 1: better man. Emotions are all over the place. These are
- 40:47Speaker 1: the moments when you ask why. My heart thoughts goes
- 40:52Speaker 1: out to Kobe's family, his daughter gg. This is a
- 40:58Speaker 1: sad day. It's around it. My family and I have
- 41:03Speaker 1: been sharing Kobe stories. We had so many moments that
- 41:08Speaker 1: he's given us. We're so thankful for those moments. I'm
- 41:12Speaker 1: thankful for those moments. Man. It was one of my
- 41:14Speaker 1: favorite players. And I gotta tell to have a relationship
- 41:17Speaker 1: a friendship, because I would miss him. I would miss
- 41:21Speaker 1: the friendship. Kobe. Thank you, man, Thank you for all
- 41:25Speaker 1: the memories. We got a lot of good ones and
- 41:28Speaker 1: these tears that we crying. We're gonna miss you. Thank
- 41:33Speaker 1: you for being my friend. I love you, brother. Wow.
- 41:38Speaker 1: That was real from the heart right there. Wow Oo.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant retired after the twenty fifteen sixteen season as
- 41:49Speaker 1: a five time NBA champion, one time League MVP. He
- 41:54Speaker 1: was an eighteen time All Star and played his entire
- 41:57Speaker 1: two decade long career as a member of the Lakers
- 42:02Speaker 1: after LA acquired him on draft on them draft night
- 42:06Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety six from the Charlotte Hornet Kobe exited
- 42:11Speaker 1: his NBA career by scoring sixty points against the Utah
- 42:15Speaker 1: Jazz back in April of twenty sixteen, and was just
- 42:19Speaker 1: eclipsed by Lebron James on the league's all time scoring list.
- 42:27Speaker 1: That was his last night. Yeah, yeah, he got out
- 42:31Speaker 1: with sixty. Yeah, just in case I think about coming back,
- 42:37Speaker 1: Just in case coming back. All for god, could you
- 42:42Speaker 1: answer a question for me, somebody? I mean, you sports
- 42:46Speaker 1: what I'm living in a LA and I don't know
- 42:49Speaker 1: why did Kobe have two numbers? Because I don't number
- 42:52Speaker 1: eight and number twenty four? All I know. The only
- 42:56Speaker 1: thing Kat could probably answer a lot better than me.
- 42:59Speaker 1: I know he's which numbers to twenty four because twenty
- 43:02Speaker 1: four men, he was on twenty four seven. That's the
- 43:08Speaker 1: only thing that I knew he wanted to number because
- 43:10Speaker 1: he was about twenty four seven on twenty four seven.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Now there's another story behind it. I don't really know it.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I remember I heard it, but I didn't forgot it,
- 43:20Speaker 1: so I know I didn't know. That's why I asked, y'all,
- 43:24Speaker 1: here's a question. I want to be next to Jordan four.
- 43:28Speaker 1: It was his number his whole high school, since high school, number.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Here's a question. Why was he called the black mamba
- 43:37Speaker 1: because he had that kingdom instinct. The black mamba one
- 43:41Speaker 1: of the most aggressive snakes in wildlife. The black mama
- 43:47Speaker 1: attacks and water, and the black Mama has one of
- 43:51Speaker 1: the most poisonous bites, and he's one of the most
- 43:54Speaker 1: aggressive snakes in the Blackma Black Mama. All you get
- 43:58Speaker 1: to say is I've been bid and boom that You
- 44:01Speaker 1: don't even say about what he was like. He was straight.
- 44:11Speaker 1: You don't know how many arenas uncle. He would boom
- 44:13Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant when he walked in because he'd take your
- 44:17Speaker 1: whole hope away. Yeah all right, yuys. Coming up next,
- 44:21Speaker 1: we'll just share our thoughts and our feelings about this
- 44:25Speaker 1: tragic news on the death of Kobe Bryant. Right after
- 44:28Speaker 1: this you're listening. I want you to know now so
- 44:34Speaker 1: we both can save her. Every moment we have left together,
- 44:39Speaker 1: the good and the bad, You have given each other
- 44:43Speaker 1: all that we have. We both know, no matter what
- 44:49Speaker 1: I do next, I'll always be that kid with the
- 44:52Speaker 1: rolled up sids, garbage can in the corner five seconds
- 44:56Speaker 1: from o'clock, ball in my hands five four three two four.
- 45:31Speaker 1: I love you always Kobe. All morning long, we've been
- 45:37Speaker 1: talking about the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, NBA legend.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant and his daughter, along with seven other people
- 45:47Speaker 1: who were tragically killed yesterday in a helicopter crash, are
- 45:51Speaker 1: very on. Jay. Anthony Brown went out on the streets
- 45:55Speaker 1: of LA because La is really feeling this as Kobe
- 45:58Speaker 1: spent most of his career, his entire career professionally playing
- 46:03Speaker 1: basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers. And you did some
- 46:07Speaker 1: man on the street stuff, right, Jay, Yep, yep, yep.
- 46:09Speaker 1: I mean just started talking about Kobe. You can get
- 46:12Speaker 1: a crowd. I mean it was just everybody. Well, I
- 46:13Speaker 1: want to say something. I want to hit him. So listen,
- 46:16Speaker 1: Jay round with the Steve Harvey Morning Show talking to
- 46:19Speaker 1: people about the passing of Kobe Bryant. Very tragic thing,
- 46:22Speaker 1: you know, for him to lose his life as at
- 46:24Speaker 1: an early age, you know, like Los Angeles full of angels.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Condonass out to his family and all the other fans.
- 46:31Speaker 1: It's really unfortunate, man. And it looked like he was,
- 46:34Speaker 1: you know, he had then settled in as he retired,
- 46:37Speaker 1: and everything looked like he was living his best life
- 46:40Speaker 1: and then had some tragic like there having that's unfortunate. Man,
- 46:44Speaker 1: My daughters are basketball players. It hurts. It's deep. He
- 46:48Speaker 1: was one of the greatest ever play in the game.
- 46:51Speaker 1: You know, he really changed my life. And he's just
- 46:53Speaker 1: changed the game and an NBA just the face of
- 46:55Speaker 1: the future for a lot of these kids. Carbon he
- 46:58Speaker 1: will be missed. That's just some of them, millions, millions
- 47:03Speaker 1: of people, you know what. And it's you know what, Jay,
- 47:08Speaker 1: It's like, it's important sometimes when you have a major
- 47:11Speaker 1: event like this that you had allow people to vent
- 47:15Speaker 1: because that's a part of dealing with it. Uh, you know,
- 47:19Speaker 1: the moving forward part has not yet started. And because
- 47:25Speaker 1: it's you got to grapple with it. I have no
- 47:28Speaker 1: idea what Vanessa, his wife is, I have no idea
- 47:34Speaker 1: what this woman could possibly and and and like Carla
- 47:39Speaker 1: said earlier, you would have to sedate her, your husband
- 47:43Speaker 1: and your child the same day, one of your children.
- 47:48Speaker 1: And so because now you got to go on being
- 47:51Speaker 1: a mother. You can't stop being a mother, right because
- 47:54Speaker 1: you got three others, you know, so you can't stop
- 47:57Speaker 1: being a mother. But you are you. You are the
- 48:01Speaker 1: wife of somebody. And they've known each other since they
- 48:04Speaker 1: were kids. These two people been together since kids, threw
- 48:09Speaker 1: it all, through it all kids, you know, they learned
- 48:14Speaker 1: and they stayed together. This is this is rough Man.
- 48:18Speaker 1: And then Kobe Bryant had a mother and a father.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant got sisters, Bryant, Kobe Bryant got relatives. It's
- 48:30Speaker 1: you know, I mean, man, And you know you like Jason,
- 48:34Speaker 1: you know you talked about these people who said, you
- 48:36Speaker 1: know he was you know, he was so young, he
- 48:38Speaker 1: was settling into his life. Forty one, you know, I mean,
- 48:44Speaker 1: forty one is young to leave this world. Man. Like
- 48:49Speaker 1: I said earlier, my friend's sister died this week. She
- 48:51Speaker 1: was sixty eight. You know I'm sixty three. That that
- 48:55Speaker 1: that that gets your attention. Forty one years old, man,
- 49:00Speaker 1: to get every forty one? Yeah, we were on a
- 49:03Speaker 1: business call on Sunday when we got the news. I
- 49:07Speaker 1: just got off the phone when I heard it, because
- 49:09Speaker 1: you know what, all of a sudden, this business that
- 49:12Speaker 1: we were arguing with, it didn't matter to me. I'm
- 49:17Speaker 1: gonna call my kids, man, and just tell my kids
- 49:20Speaker 1: I love them because this business y'all talking on the
- 49:24Speaker 1: Lord's Day anyway. Really, we'll just deal with we got
- 49:28Speaker 1: to get this straighten out before the beginning of the week,
- 49:30Speaker 1: hey man, or what you know? And the other thing, Steve,
- 49:35Speaker 1: It makes you understand why all the people in LA
- 49:38Speaker 1: went to the Staples Center to be around people who
- 49:42Speaker 1: are going through the same thing that they're going through.
- 49:44Speaker 1: I mean they're not they're not family, but they love
- 49:46Speaker 1: Kobe just as just as much as anybody. You know,
- 49:49Speaker 1: they're big, big fan, And you understand why they would
- 49:52Speaker 1: go to the Staples Center to be around people who
- 49:55Speaker 1: are going through the same thing, because it is it
- 49:57Speaker 1: is very hard for a lot of people. I mean,
- 49:59Speaker 1: this ain't no Joel. They are really really grieving over this,
- 50:03Speaker 1: over this God, they really. I mean I'm forty one
- 50:06Speaker 1: year old. I mean it shook me to my core. Yeah,
- 50:11Speaker 1: you know, processing that right, like my like whatever, I
- 50:16Speaker 1: was mad at some people about Man, I'm gonna tell
- 50:17Speaker 1: yall to day. I'm sorry. It's not even worth it, man,
- 50:21Speaker 1: It's not even them. It isn't even worth it because
- 50:24Speaker 1: you just never know. This is, man, some news you
- 50:29Speaker 1: never would think you'd get on a day yesterday, Like Yester,
- 50:32Speaker 1: you never would think that. It even made me think
- 50:34Speaker 1: about what were you saying Tommy, Well, I was saying,
- 50:37Speaker 1: my wife went to a lunch yesterday, so I had
- 50:39Speaker 1: my kids and I took them to lunch, so we
- 50:42Speaker 1: just wouldn't be sitting in the house. And I'm watching
- 50:45Speaker 1: all this on TV while we're having lunch, and I'm
- 50:49Speaker 1: just sitting there looking at them like, I'm just so
- 50:52Speaker 1: glad I'm with y'all right now, blessing. You know, the
- 50:57Speaker 1: only phones. They're doing the normal thing. But I'm just
- 50:59Speaker 1: just for me to just be looking at him President.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Oh my god. Yeah, you don't know what that means. Yeah,
- 51:06Speaker 1: I was just gonna say, and I'll say it quickly.
- 51:08Speaker 1: The last time I saw Kobe, Um, not that I
- 51:12Speaker 1: saw him all the time, but it was just something
- 51:15Speaker 1: that struck me about him. We were at the Beyonce
- 51:18Speaker 1: concert when she toured on the Road too with On
- 51:21Speaker 1: the Run two with jay Z, when she when they
- 51:24Speaker 1: were in Los Angeles. I was at the concert. Yeah,
- 51:28Speaker 1: Kobe was there and as he walked through the crowd, Um,
- 51:33Speaker 1: just the people were just Kobe Kobe. I mean just
- 51:36Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. They showed him so much love and um,
- 51:40Speaker 1: I don't remember seeing him with his daughters, but I
- 51:44Speaker 1: think he was with his family and they were just
- 51:46Speaker 1: he was so kind and so nice. He kept looking forward,
- 51:49Speaker 1: kept walking. But it was like, wow, that's the last time.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Who knew you know? I mean that, you man, it's
- 51:56Speaker 1: just you know the other things that it's amazing. And
- 51:58Speaker 1: I mean Tommy and Steve and Junior, all of us,
- 52:00Speaker 1: we get it. When fans love you. You know, they
- 52:03Speaker 1: don't have to love you, they really don't. You can
- 52:06Speaker 1: put out what you put out, you can put out
- 52:09Speaker 1: what you put out, you can do what you do.
- 52:10Speaker 1: But when they really love you, and they generally love
- 52:13Speaker 1: you and care about you, it is genuine, man. And
- 52:15Speaker 1: so it doesn't take some time, a lot of time
- 52:18Speaker 1: to say thank you, shake a hand, take a picture,
- 52:20Speaker 1: to take a selfie. Oh I don't take it at all. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 52:24Speaker 1: yeah I would. Yeah. Its fans of this show. We
- 52:30Speaker 1: got lot real fans, and we we love and thank
- 52:33Speaker 1: them and we appreciate, appreciate them for listening every day,
- 52:36Speaker 1: taking time out of their morning to listen to us.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Thank you. Definitely. Yeah, it was just a heavy morning.
- 52:43Speaker 1: It's a heavy morning because I mean, this is someone
- 52:47Speaker 1: we all knew and loved and we all watch basically
- 52:50Speaker 1: grow up and you know, mature in the game and
- 52:54Speaker 1: just it's it's, it's it's a lot of people grew
- 52:56Speaker 1: up with him surely. Yeah, yeah, he grew away onto us. Yeah,
- 53:02Speaker 1: oh yeah, I know that. But I'm saying, watch keep
- 53:05Speaker 1: you on target with the age. Don't be sitting up.
- 53:10Speaker 1: What are you saying? He's right, you ain't grew up
- 53:14Speaker 1: with Cope. Yeah, you're not feeling sitting here like you third,
- 53:16Speaker 1: you could have baby said Kobe grew up. We watched it.
- 53:21Speaker 1: I could have watched Yeah, let's be real about that.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Thank you, Steve. Such the gentleman you are. Thank you, buddy.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Getting real joking at more of the Steve Harvey Morning
- 53:39Speaker 1: Show right after this. You're listening to Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 53:47Speaker 1: What a tough morning this is. I mean, we have
- 53:49Speaker 1: to just be real with our audience and just let
- 53:52Speaker 1: them know. I mean, we're feeling it too. We all
- 53:55Speaker 1: feel this. Head coach of the Clippers also a LA
- 54:00Speaker 1: basketball team, um Doc Rivers, he had a tough time
- 54:04Speaker 1: dealing with it too. He got really emotional. Take a listen.
- 54:09Speaker 1: You know, I don't know, uh, you know, uh, I
- 54:18Speaker 1: just don't have a lot to say. The news is
- 54:23Speaker 1: just devastating to everybody who knew him, knows him a
- 54:27Speaker 1: long time, and uh, you know he just he meant.
- 54:34Speaker 1: He means a lot to me obviously. Um. You know,
- 54:37Speaker 1: he was such a great opponent, you know. Um that's
- 54:41Speaker 1: what you run in sports. Um. Yeah, that that DNA
- 54:46Speaker 1: that uh that very few athletes can ever have, you know,
- 54:50Speaker 1: the Tiger Woods and the Michael Jordan's you know. Um
- 54:56Speaker 1: it's funny. Yeah. I was just getting to know him
- 55:00Speaker 1: more since you retired, you know. Um, yeah, this is
- 55:08Speaker 1: this is a tough one. I don't uh, I mean
- 55:12Speaker 1: we have to go play, uh, I mean the news
- 55:16Speaker 1: is just devastating for for Vanessa and and his and
- 55:19Speaker 1: his family, and um, there's just so many people he touched,
- 55:23Speaker 1: you know. Um. And you know it's looking at my
- 55:28Speaker 1: young players and seeing how emotional, uh they are. Um,
- 55:33Speaker 1: they ain't even know him, you know, and uh, it
- 55:36Speaker 1: just tells you how far it's reached us. So um
- 55:41Speaker 1: and this is just shocking news for all of us.
- 55:43Speaker 1: And sorry, I don't have a lot to say. Uh.
- 55:45Speaker 1: I just can't uh have to go talk to a
- 55:48Speaker 1: team before a game and tell him to play. Okay, Wow,
- 55:55Speaker 1: I was watching it live yesterday when they to him,
- 55:58Speaker 1: because I went to the NBA channel and it was
- 56:03Speaker 1: tough because after he got through saying that he was
- 56:06Speaker 1: talking about when he was going there to talk to
- 56:08Speaker 1: his team, you're talking to people who played basketball right
- 56:13Speaker 1: now because of Kobe Bryant. I mean, who in that
- 56:18Speaker 1: locker room currently that's a Clipper that didn't want to
- 56:22Speaker 1: be Kobe? All of them, Kawhi, Leonard Beverly, all of
- 56:27Speaker 1: them boys in the Paul George. They were all huge
- 56:32Speaker 1: fans and have relationships with Kobe. And I mean any
- 56:37Speaker 1: who who playing the game today don't want his career
- 56:41Speaker 1: right he said he chased Kobe. I mean, there's no
- 56:46Speaker 1: one playing right now that that you know, you would
- 56:51Speaker 1: be lucky if you could name any person right now
- 56:54Speaker 1: that's gonna have his career. Anybody that's gonna have his
- 56:58Speaker 1: career five NBA Championships, eighteen All Stars. Man, nobody's gonna
- 57:04Speaker 1: have that, Nobody, you know what I mean. You you
- 57:07Speaker 1: can you can say that they're young kids on the horizon,
- 57:11Speaker 1: but it's hard to have that career. And you can
- 57:14Speaker 1: have a very very successful and a great career and
- 57:18Speaker 1: not have that one too. You that a lot. Charles
- 57:21Speaker 1: Barkley had a great career, never won an NBA title,
- 57:24Speaker 1: but he had a great career. But now King had
- 57:28Speaker 1: a great career. I could tell you some bad boys.
- 57:31Speaker 1: There's very few people that you can say came out
- 57:35Speaker 1: of high school and went to the pros. That's not
- 57:38Speaker 1: that many of them. Dominating adults you out here whooping
- 57:45Speaker 1: people that's been in the league ten years. Come on, man,
- 57:48Speaker 1: I just really know three. I just really know three
- 57:53Speaker 1: came out of high school that was gangster with it,
- 57:57Speaker 1: and that was Lebron Obie, Moses Malone, Malone, I don't
- 58:06Speaker 1: really know. I'm pretty another. I got ready Saint Garnett.
- 58:13Speaker 1: But that's that's it. I mean, I I that's probably
- 58:17Speaker 1: another one. But I don't know this dude was. But
- 58:24Speaker 1: Moses Malone had a great career. Kevin Garnett had a
- 58:28Speaker 1: great basketball career. One of my favorite players too. Man.
- 58:33Speaker 1: I love just his cussing on the floor. I went
- 58:36Speaker 1: to the dog. I went to the game to hear
- 58:40Speaker 1: Kevin Garnett cuss people out. Man, That's why I went.
- 58:47Speaker 1: I remember we were doing Kings of Comedy, and I
- 58:51Speaker 1: remember we were doing Kings of Comedy in Minnesota and
- 58:55Speaker 1: he came early early while he was doing a sound
- 58:59Speaker 1: chat and we ran up in to it. Man, it
- 59:02Speaker 1: was just a great moment. The last time I saw
- 59:05Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant was at the World Series game that was
- 59:10Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. It was the Dodgers against the Socks
- 59:17Speaker 1: Boston and we were sitting on the same road and
- 59:23Speaker 1: there was a lot of people between us, but we
- 59:25Speaker 1: were on the same road right right over there by
- 59:27Speaker 1: the Red Sox dugout and around seventh inning, man, I
- 59:32Speaker 1: was trying to get out of there and I saw
- 59:35Speaker 1: him and he stood up. He said, my man. We
- 59:37Speaker 1: went over there and I hugged him and I hugged
- 59:39Speaker 1: his wife. That's the last time I saw him talk
- 59:42Speaker 1: to him, and it was you know, you know when
- 59:47Speaker 1: somebody passes, you always go, man, last time I saw
- 59:51Speaker 1: them or saying something, you know. And Kobe and I
- 59:53Speaker 1: were not friends, you know, we didn't have each other
- 59:56Speaker 1: sale number. We never talked, just always saw each other
- 59:59Speaker 1: as real respect. Always saw each other. It was just
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: real respect. I didn't know him personally like that, you know,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: I got shocks number. I know Shack. You know, I
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: didn't know Kobe like that. But every time I saw him, man,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: especially after he had gotten all through that incident with
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: that girl in Denver. Right. I saw him once and
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: I said, hey, man, I want to give you the
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: utmost respect. Man. You have turned yourself and quite into
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: quite a man and a brother. He said, thank you
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: for saying that. Man. All Right, we'll have more of
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: the Steve Harvey Morning Show right after this. Hey, we're back.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: I wanted to show you. I wanted to play something
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: that I found to be extremely prophetic. U the night
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: that Lebron James broke Kobe Bryan's record, which was the
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: night before they had him in the locker room talking
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: about the breaking of Kobe Bryant's record. Now, this that
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: you are about to hear was Lebron James's comments before
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: before Kobe Bryant passed. When I heard this and saw
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: what he said, it was unbelievably eerie. It was almost
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: as if he was paying a tribute to him what
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: he was. But it was prior to his passing, prior
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: to this tragic accident, and he was just sitting in
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: front of his locker telling the story about what Kobe
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: meant to him over the years, how he met him,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: when he was fifteen years old, and he game a
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: pair of shoes and the next day Kobe Bryant dies
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: in a car crash, I mean, excuse me, in a
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: helicopter crash. That This is what he said. And I
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: was hesitant to play it because I didn't want you
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: to think that he was so casually talking about his
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: mentor and the reason he played basketball in such a
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: cavalier way. But I'm trying to get you to understand
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: what this interview was the night before he passed. So
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: here it is. You know, when I was a kid,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: when I was in high school, I was growing up
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: through the ranks. When Kobe came into the league, he
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: was you know, it wasn't a dream of mine to
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: come straight you know, from high school at that point
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: in time to the NBA. But I was like, wow,
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: seventeen year eight year old kid being able to make
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: that leap, That's that's pretty damn cool. UM. And And
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: as I started playing more ball and I went into
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: high school, the things that he was doing on the floor,
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: you know, admired and wanted to be a part of. UM.
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: I went to ABCD camp and he came and talked
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: to all the all the all the kids that was
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: there that happened to be one of the one of
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: the kids that was there, and I was just I
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: was just listening. I was just trying to soaker everything
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: up i could. But you know, and I remember one
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: thing that he said. It was like, if you want
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: to try to be, you know, great at it, or
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: want to be one of the great, you got to
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: put the work in. You know, there's no substitution to work.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: And I was a fifteen year old kid at that camp.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: You're can actually find the footage of him at that camp.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: And in two thousand and one, I believe I was
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: playing in New Jersey and the All Star Game. If
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I'm not mistaken, and y'all could correct me, it was
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: in Philly, right, Yeah. That Saturday, me and Maverick drove
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: to the Intercontinental downtown Philadelphia, and he gave me a
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: pair of his shoes, which I ended up wearing that
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: following night. It was the red, white, and Blue Kobe's.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I was a fifteen and he was a fourteen, and
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: I wore him any ways, and I sat and just
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: talked to him for a little bit. He gave me
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: the shoes. I rocked him in the game. And it
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: was the same night that we played Old Kill against
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: Mellow and then I saw what he was able to
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: do the very next night winning MVP here in Philly.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: That that that that same that following night, as I
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: got drafted, I still just admired him, you know, seeing
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: what he was able to accomplish when the championships, having
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: you know, being early in his career where you know,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: he learned from the missus that he had against the
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: series against Utah and he just used that as motivation
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: and got better and better and better to him winning
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: multiple championships, and uh continue to admire him throughout my
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: high school rank and and then as competitors, just seeing
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: the work ethic, the work ethic that he put into
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: the game. He has zero flaws offensively. Zero you backed
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: off of me, he could shoot the three you pick,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: you know, you body him up a little bit, he
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: can go around you, he can shoot the mere range,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: he can post, he can make free throws. He has
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: zero flaws offensively, And you know that's something that I
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: admired as well. Just being at a point where the
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: defense will always be at bay, where they can guard
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: you at all offensively, where you just I think you
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: was just immortal offensively because of your skill set in
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: your work ethic. Wow, man, and that's true. He didn't, like,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: I get what you're saying. That's the name before, right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, prophetic. Yeah,
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: but he's talking about the memories of Kobe and Urfeld.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: You know what he meant him And that same day,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Kobe tweeted, yeah, tweet, he tweeted, continuing, you know, to
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: move the game forward at King James, that's Lebron's Twitter
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: handle much respect. My brother is earring. It really is earing. Yeah.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: When I heard it, I said, man, this sounds like
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: he said this afterwards. But I take my hat off
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: to Lebron James because this, dude, the thing I learned
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: from people who have a special gift that are not
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: only gifted, but also find people. You know, they have
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: a way of putting things into contexts. That's that's relevant
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: and that and that resonates with other people. That's what
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: I've seen over the years from people who are aware
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: of other great people because they must have a measure
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: of that that in themselves, if you know what I'm saying.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: And I've always noticed that that the great ones who
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: are aware of history and have an understanding of other
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: people's greatness because there's a piece of that in them.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: They have a way of phrasing things that helps other
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: people really understand and relate. And for him to say
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: that the day before was really prophetic. All Right, we'll
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: have more of the Sea Harvy Morning Show right after this.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: You're listening to show all morning. We've been talking about
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: the tragic loss of one of the NBA greatest, NBA's
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: greatest players, Kobe Bryant. He was. It's just hard for
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: me to say, it's so hard to believe you ever happened.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: Every NBA player that's playing this game today, every last
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: one of them have been in a backyard on a
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: playground going Kobe five four three two, all of them,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: every last one of them. Because this is that generation's Jordan. Yeah,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: none of us played without going Jordan five four three
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: two trying to shoot one in this dude, here is
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: a was in the conversation of being the greatest basketball
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: player of all time. Because the conversation is Jordan, Magic,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: lebron Kareem Abdude, Jabbar, Tim Duncan. This is the conversation.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: You're in, that conversation off top five greatest basketball players.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: You're in the conversation, partner. What I admired about him
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: was his ability to survive the hardships. You know that
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: thing with that girl in Denver. Man would have took
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: most people out. This dude was he would leave court,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: fly back to La drop forty. Yeah, no dog, no
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: shoot around, no nothing, get back in time for the game,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: drop forty and Doc. He was wrestling with doing some
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: serious time over this. I mean, thank god it worked
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: out for him. But man, and then the thing between
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: him and the other players, as what he just went
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: through as a young man, grappling so young with being
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: famous man, because there's no school for fame. Yeah, growth,
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: and you know you just have to figure it out
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: in front of everybody. Yeah yeah yeah. And the things
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: you see all those uh basketball teams a lot of
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: games right yesterday. I mean the Rockets, the Grizzlies, the Knicks,
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: the Nets, they all, all of these teams paid tribute
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: to Spurs, they all paid to Kobe. Um. It's just
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: all of these, especially these young basketball players that are
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: in I was one of them, every last one of
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: them finished. I'm not playing. He can run, but he
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: can't he's he's running basketball. I had said that that'd
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: be a whole different story. But Junior can play with
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: more right after this. You're listening. Well, last night it
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: was a sixty second annual Grammy Awards. It was hosted
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: by Alicia Keys, and the opening of the show, Alicia was, Yeah,
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: it was really really sad. Alicia was joined on stage
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: by Boys to Men. They paid tribute to Kobe Bryant. Uh,
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: take a listen. Here we are together on music's biggest night,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: celebrating the artists that do it best. But to be
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: honest with you, we're all feeling crazy sadness right now
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: because earlier today Los Angeles, America and the whole wide
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: world lost a hero. And we're literally standing here heartbroken
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: in the house that Kobe Bryant built. Right now. Kobe
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: and his daughter Gianna and all of those that are
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: that have been tragically lost today are in our spirit,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: They're in our hearts, they're in our prayers, they're in
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: this building, and I would like to ask everybody to
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: take a moment and just hold them inside of you,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: hold them inside of you, and share our strength and
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: our support with their families. We never imagined in a
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: million years, we'd have to start the show like this,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: never never never, never never never. So we wanted to
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: do something that could describe a tiny bit how we
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: y'all feel right now. It's so hard to say gobye
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: to what we have the good times and maids laugh.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: I'll wait a bit, no mo So two years. We
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: love you, Kobe. There was also a tribute to Nipsey
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Hustle on the Grammys led by DJ Khaled, and in
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: that Nipsey Hustle tribute, they also honored Kobe Bryant. So,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: like Alicia Keys said, Kobe Bryant on the hearts and
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: minds of everyone, especially in LA, in the United States,
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: and around the world, I mean globally. This is this
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: has hit us hard right here, forty one years old. Yeah,
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: it's just did you see anything those fans, the Lakers
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: fans and just fans of Kobe Bryant. Did you all
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: see them gather yeah round in the Staples Center and
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: just had a memorial. Yeah. LA is very very sad.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: I mean they loved Kobe Bryant. Yeah, they love Kobe
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Bryan that right, he was the man, he really was, right, Yeah,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: cat dog, you know, our engineer Uh, that runs the
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: board and takes care of us. Kat Kobe was his
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: favorite player. He didn't talk about anybody else but Kobe
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: all the time. That was his guy. Well, I mean
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: she named her son Kobe after Kobe Bryant. I mean
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: it's serious with a lot of these people. Remember brand right,
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: Remember when Brandy took her to took him to her
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: prom uh years ago. Yeah, that was a moment, you know.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: And he was in a Destiny's Child video. He won
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: an Oscar last year, he won an Oscar an Academy award.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: He made He made music too, Yeah, made music. Yeah,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: him something special. He certainly was. We'll have more of
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: the Steve Harvey Morning Show right after this. You're listening,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: you know what We've been talking about Kobe Bryant all morning.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: One thing I did want to point out is that
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: we knew, of course, we were living in LA and
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: everything we knew about the rivalry with Shaq and Kobe.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: But what I loved is that they squashed their beef.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: I love that. Well. A huge part of it was
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: they both were married, they both were having families, and
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: they just sat down as men and went, really, man,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: what's important here? They sat down as men and they
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: became really really close friends. You know, look, Kobe made
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: some mistakes. Who ain't he made mistakes? Who ain't right, man?
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: And he ain't done nothing, no crazy and nobody else.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: It was just an incident. And the way he handled it,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: what he said calls it relf, but I apologized. He
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: knew the mistake. But there once again a camera was
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: in Kobe's face at and he just said something off
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: the cuff. That's all it was. Man, He just said
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: something off the cuff. And they eventually squashed it quickly
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: and they became great friends. Man. He was. That was
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Uncle shock to all his kids, you know, just just
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: a great, great, great relationship. They had part of his caption,
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: Steve where Shack said that with his condolences, he said
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: his knees he lost his knee speaking of Gianna. You know.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: All right, uh wow, but I'm glad they squashed it. Yeah.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: We'll be back with more of the Steve Harvey Morning
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: Show at thirty three minutes after the hour. Right after this,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: you're listening all right here, we are back with the
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: Steve Harvey Morning Show. We've been discuss seeing the tragic
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: death of course of Kobe Bryant all morning. We're all devastated.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: And stephen A. Smith we all know him, of course
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: from ESPN and from his talk show. Yeah, he's just
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: you know, we love stephen A, and stephen A of
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: course love Kobe like we all did. But he actually
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: knew Kobe and this is what he had to say.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Take a listen. Just devastating. Obviously. I found out a
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: few minutes after the reports came out. And you know,
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: it's a guy I've known for his entire career, and
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: I've known him pretty well, and we talked a lot
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: and throughout the years, and knowing what a winning he was,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: not just on the basketball court, but off of it,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: how inspirational he was, how motivational he was in terms
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: of really helping to instill in other people. Uh, you know,
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: just the tenacity and the focused on being all that
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: you could be, never taking any short much, a willingness
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: to put in the work, to rip yourself and shred
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: yourself with the excuses of the things that hold you
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: back from achieving the things that you aspired to achieve. Uh,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: it didn't. It wasn't just about basketball with him, It
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: was about life and that Mama mentality wasn't something that
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: was reserved for just basketball players or for just athletes.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: It was for any human being out there who had
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: a dream, who had who felt the need to be
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: inspired about something, who wanted something so badly. It was
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: about going out and getting it. And he was just
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: that kind of guy. And he laughed a lot more
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: than people realized he was. He told a lot of
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: jokes more than people realized. He'd sting you whenever he could,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: because that was his way. He was a great basketball player,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: he was a great father. He loved his wife, and
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: that's obviously tremendously. He was a great friend. We were
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: just together on New Year's Eve and we were supposed
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: to meet again in a few weeks to discuss some
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: things and to just hit the news that he passed away,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: particularly in this fashion. He's been taking a helicopter for decades,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: living the New Sport Beach and you know, flying uh
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: or you know toward downtown to La to the Staples Center,
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: you know, to and from games all the time for
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: many many years. Uh. He loved to be in in
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: that helicopter. He certainly was never really concerned about it.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: Um and for him to be gone, particularly through these means,
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: is incredibly tragic, and it's saddened to note that his
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: daughter was on on on a helicopter with him. It
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: just resonate even that much more profoundly. So obviously it's
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: incredibly sad for me, incredibly sad for the NBA community.
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: And um, it's just hard to put it in words,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: to be quite honest, with just the best I can do. Wow,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: I put it in perspective. Yeah, man, we cannot take
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: life for granted. Nope, that's at all exactly right. Cannot
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: take for granted. And it's comedians saying that there's a
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: video of him saying that, you know, enjoy life, don't
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: take it for granted, you know, when one thing ends,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: move on to the next, and saying it in the video.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: And I mean, but if you think about it, we
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: may not have a video of it, but all of
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: us have said that. All right, coming up, we have
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: one more break on this Monday. Steve with his closing
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: remarks right after this. You're listening, all right, Steve, here
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: we are. This is definitely the last break of the day.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: Yes it is. And you know what I just want
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: to say in closing, I think this puts a lot
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: of things in perspective for a lot of us. When
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: someone of this magnitude passes, now the incredible the thing is,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: you know, I'm hearing people say this is the most
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: devastating day of my life because of his passing. Well,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: there are those of us who have been around and
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: seen other devastating days, And as tough as yesterday was
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: for me, and as how much I hated to hear
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: that news, and how bad Loud felt for his wife
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: and his father and his family, there are those of
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: us who have some personal moments that we've had that
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: even outweighed this. You know, there are people listening to
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: this show who have lost mothers, who have lost fathers
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: and can attest to more difficult times. But grief is
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: not a competition, and we're not in this to say
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: who's hurting more because of what, Because sometimes I'm careful
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: with how I word myself when it comes to my
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: grief about a situation, because it almost comes like you've
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: ever been to a funeral and people try to outgrieve
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: one another, you know, you kind of see it. I
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: think this is a time for all of us to
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: recognize the how fragile life really really is. And one
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: of my daughters called me, text me and said, I
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: love you Dad, and I it's so kind of out
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: of place, you know. So they always tell me they
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: loved me, but it was just simple, I love you, Dad,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: and that was it. And so I called them back
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: because okay, it's something wrong, and she just said, no,
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: I'm just really sad today about Kobe and his daughter
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: and how you know, Kobe's wife must feel. And I
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: just wanted to tell y'all love y'all said, well, I
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: love you too, And so it dawned on me that
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: all of us should take a moment today, tomorrow, this
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: evening and put a phone call into somebody that you
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: really love and tell them that, because, as we saw today,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: you don't know the time, the place, or the hour
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: when your time on this earth is up, and you
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: want to kind of have having said something positive to
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: somebody to make sure that you got something said. You
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: know what I mean. I think a really bad thing
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: or part of our grieving is when someone leaves here
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: and and and and and and you didn't get a
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: chance to correct a mistake with them. You didn't get
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: a chance to say I'm sorry you you let you
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: let your end come to the end with its unfinished forgiveness.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: If you owe anybody an apology, call them. If you
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: don't think you owe them an apology, call them anyway.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: If it's somebody that you need to forgive, pick up
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: the phone and tell them you forgive them. I was
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: on a business call yesterday at two o'clock Eastern time,
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: two thirty. We were discussing it, and my phone was
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: lighting up. Have you heard about Kobe? Have you heard
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: about Kobe? And on the other end, these people who
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: are nothing like me were getting the same things, and
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: we started talking about it, and it was a huge
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: business thing that we had to get it. And I
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: just said, hey, man, I can't do this right now.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: I gotta get off the phone. I gotta check this out.
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: And the guy said, hey, we're handling business here. And
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: do you know what, Man, At that particular moment, business
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: meant nothing to me, because all of a sudden, life
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: came into focus, because how fragile life is has nothing
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: to do with business, it really doesn't. And I just
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: got off the phone because I wanted to talk to
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: somebody I love, and my wife was away from the house,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: and I just called in. She said, Steve, did you
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: hear and we talked about it today. Pick up the phone.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: If it's somebody you love, call him and tell them.
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: Pick up the phone today. If you've had a problem
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: with anybody that you were once cool with, and straighten
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: it out. If anybody has asked you for forgiveness, and
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: for whatever reason you've not given it to them, pick
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: up the phone and tell them you forgive them, and
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: then ask them for your forgiveness for not forgiving them.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: Call your mother and tell her you love her today.
