- 0:00Mark Chapter 9 And Jesus was saying to them, truly, I say to
- 0:04you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not
- 0:07taste death until they see the Kingdom of God after it has come
- 0:11with power. Six days later Jesus took with
- 0:14him Peter and James and John and brought them up on a high
- 0:17mountain by themselves, and he was transfigured before them,
- 0:22and his garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no
- 0:25launderer on earth can whiten them.
- 0:28Elijah appeared to them along with Moses, and they were
- 0:31talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, Rabbi, it
- 0:35is good for us to be here. Let us make 3 tabernacles, one
- 0:39for you and one for Moses, and 1:00 for Elijah, for he did not
- 0:42know what to answer for. They became terrified.
- 0:46Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice
- 0:49came out of the cloud. This is my beloved son, listen
- 0:53to him. All at once they looked around
- 0:56and saw no one with them anymore except Jesus alone.
- 1:00As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them
- 1:02orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen until the Son
- 1:06of Man rose from the dead. They seized upon that statement,
- 1:10discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.
- 1:14They asked him, saying, Why is it that the scribes say that
- 1:18Elijah must come first? And he said to them, Elijah does
- 1:22first come and restore all things, and yet how is it
- 1:25written of the Son of Man that he will suffer many things and
- 1:28be treated with contempt? But I say to you that Elijah has
- 1:33indeed come. And they did to him whatever
- 1:35they wished, just as it is written of him.
- 1:38When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large
- 1:40crowd around them and some scribes arguing with them.
- 1:44Immediately when the entire crowd saw him, they were amazed,
- 1:47began running up to greet him. And he asked them, What are you
- 1:50discussing with them? And one of the crowd answered
- 1:53him. Teacher, I brought you my son
- 1:56possessed with a spirit which makes him mute, and whenever it
- 1:59seizes him, it slams him to the ground, and he foams at the
- 2:02mouth and grinds his teeth and stiffens out.
- 2:05I told your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it.
- 2:09And he answered them and said, Oh, unbelieving generation, how
- 2:12long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with
- 2:15you? Bring him to me.
- 2:18They brought the boy to him. When he saw him, immediately the
- 2:21Spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the
- 2:24ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth.
- 2:27And he asked his father, how long has this been happening to
- 2:30him? And he said, from childhood it
- 2:33has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to
- 2:35destroy him. But if you can do anything, take
- 2:38pity on us and help us. And Jesus said to him, if you
- 2:42can, all things are possible to him who believes.
- 2:46Immediately the boy's father cried out and said, I do
- 2:49believe, help my own belief. When Jesus saw that a crowd was
- 2:53rapidly gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to
- 2:56it, You deaf and mute spirit, I command you come out of him and
- 3:00do not enter him again. After crying out and throwing
- 3:03him into terrible convulsions, it came out and the boy became
- 3:06so much like a corpse that most of them said He is dead.
- 3:10But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him, and he got up.
- 3:14When he came into the house, his disciples began questioning him
- 3:16privately. Why could we not drive it out?
- 3:19And He said to them, This kind cannot come out by anything but
- 3:22prayer. From there they went out and
- 3:25began to go through Galilee. And He did not want and He did
- 3:28not want anyone to know about it.
- 3:30For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, The
- 3:32Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they
- 3:35will kill Him, and when He has been killed He will rise three
- 3:38days later. But they did not understand this
- 3:41statement and they were afraid to ask Him.
- 3:44They came to Capernaum when He was in the house.
- 3:46He began to question them. What were you discussing on the
- 3:48way? But they kept silent, for on the
- 3:51way they had discussed with one another which of them was the
- 3:53greatest. Sitting down, he called the 12
- 3:56and said to them, If anyone wants to be first, he shall be
- 3:59the last of all and servant of all.
- 4:02Taking a child, he set him before them, and taking him in
- 4:05his arms, he said to them, Whoever receives one child like
- 4:08this in my name receives me, and whoever receives me does not
- 4:12receive me, but him who sent me. John said to him, Teacher, we
- 4:16saw someone casting out demons in your name.
- 4:19We tried to prevent him because he was not following us.
- 4:22But Jesus said, do not hinder him.
- 4:25For there is no one who will perform a miracle in my name and
- 4:28be able soon afterward to speak evil of me.
- 4:31For he who is not against us is for us.
- 4:33For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your
- 4:36name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not
- 4:40lose his reward. Whoever causes one of these
- 4:42little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for
- 4:45him if with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had
- 4:48been cast into the sea. If your hand causes you to
- 4:51stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter
- 4:53life crippled than having two hands to go into hell, into the
- 4:57unquenchable fire where their worm does not die and the fire
- 5:01is not quenched. If your foot causes you to
- 5:03stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter
- 5:06life lame than having your two feet to be cast into hell where
- 5:10their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.
- 5:13If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out.
- 5:16It is better for you to enter the Kingdom of God with one eye
- 5:19than having two eyes to be cast into hell where their worm does
- 5:22not die and the fire is not quenched.
- 5:25For everyone will be salted with fire.
- 5:28Salt is good, but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will
- 5:32you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves and be
- 5:36at peace with one another.
