Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Kamala Harris wasn't in attendance at last night's Al Smith
- 0:05Speaker 1: Dinner in New York on Thursday night. She did offer
- 0:09Speaker 1: a video consolation to the attendees. Instead, Harris enlisted actress
- 0:14Speaker 1: Molly Shannon, who received her beloved Satay Night Live character
- 0:19Speaker 1: that she decided to bring out of retirement, the Catholic
- 0:22Speaker 1: schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher if you've ever watched SNL. In
- 0:27Speaker 1: the video, Harris began by speaking about Al Smith Dinner,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a tradition each election season where the presidential candidates roast
- 0:34Speaker 1: each other and themselves. As she speaks, Shenon runs behind
- 0:38Speaker 1: her as Mary Katherine Gallagher and says things like, Hey,
- 0:43Speaker 1: what's going on? Harris says, who is that? Harris then
- 0:47Speaker 1: invites Mary Catherine to help her writer speech for the dinner,
- 0:50Speaker 1: which she describes as an important tradition that she decided
- 0:53Speaker 1: to skip and is so proud to be a part of. Saying,
- 0:56Speaker 1: my feelings about what you should say tonight would be
- 0:59Speaker 1: best express in a monologue from one of my favorite
- 1:02Speaker 1: made for TV series, Shannon replies. She then goes in
- 1:07Speaker 1: to explain that she believes that you need a woman
- 1:11Speaker 1: to represent the country that that is what this is
- 1:15Speaker 1: all about. I'm going to play it for you, but
- 1:17Speaker 1: I want to have the context for you to understood
- 1:19Speaker 1: exactly what you're listening to. Again, skipping the dinner didn't
- 1:24Speaker 1: go over well with the attendees, but this is the
- 1:26Speaker 1: video she put out on YouTube.
- 1:28Speaker 2: And distinguished guests. The Al Smith dinner provides a rare
- 1:32Speaker 2: opportunity to set aside partisanship.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I'm sorry, sorry, what's going on?
- 1:38Speaker 2: Who was that?
- 1:39Speaker 4: Sorry?
- 1:39Speaker 3: Mary cokethan Elli Ry coming.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Very nice to meet you, Mary Catherine. Right now, I'm
- 1:45Speaker 2: trying to record my speech for tonight's dinner.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I know. I just want to say that
- 1:49Speaker 3: I'm Catholic and tonight is one of the biggest dinners
- 1:51Speaker 3: next to the Last Supper.
- 1:53Speaker 2: It is a very important dinner, and it's an important
- 1:55Speaker 2: tradition that I'm so proud to be a part of.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Sometimes when I get nervous, I stick my fingers on
- 2:00Speaker 3: in my arms and I swim on them like that.
- 2:04Speaker 3: That's gross.
- 2:04Speaker 2: So tell me something. I'm giving a speech. You have
- 2:07Speaker 2: some thoughts about what I might say tonight.
- 2:09Speaker 3: My feelings about what you say tonight would be best
- 2:11Speaker 3: express in a monologue. From one of my favorite made
- 2:13Speaker 3: for TV series. Okay, let's hear it, don't you see? Men,
- 2:19Speaker 3: we need a woman to represent us. A woman brings
- 2:22Speaker 3: more heart, more compassion, and think how smart you must
- 2:26Speaker 3: be to become a top contender in a field dominated
- 2:28Speaker 3: by men.
- 2:29Speaker 5: It's time for a woman, bro.
- 2:32Speaker 3: And with this woman, we can fly.
- 2:37Speaker 6: What series was that from?
- 2:38Speaker 3: Oh that's from House of Dragons, now streaming on HBO Max.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Is there anything that you think that maybe I shouldn't
- 2:44Speaker 2: bring up tonight?
- 2:45Speaker 3: Well, don't lie. Thou shalt not bear a false witness
- 2:48Speaker 3: to thy neighbor.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Indeed, especially thy neighbor's election results.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Just you know there will be a fact checker there tonight.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Oh that's great, Who Jesus? And maybe don't say anything
- 2:59Speaker 3: negativebout Catholics.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I would never do that no matter where I was.
- 3:03Speaker 2: That would be like criticizing Detroit.
- 3:06Speaker 7: In Detroit.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Does it bother you that that trunk guy insults you
- 3:09Speaker 3: all the time, Because it really bothers my friends and me.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Oh, Mary Catherine, it's very important to always remember you
- 3:15Speaker 2: should never let anyone tell you who you are. You
- 3:18Speaker 2: tell them who you are.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Hater's gonna hate, hate, hate, shake it off, Shake it off,
- 3:23Speaker 3: shake it off, shake it off. Oh yeah, okay. And
- 3:28Speaker 3: also remember one more thing, don't worry if you make
- 3:30Speaker 3: a mistake because Catholic people are very forgiving. Yeah. And
- 3:33Speaker 3: also one last thing I want to tell you, don't
- 3:35Speaker 3: forget to say superstar.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Thank you Mary, Catherine, thank you, Mama La, Thank you
- 3:43Speaker 2: your eminence and distinguished guests. The Al Smith Dinner provides
- 3:48Speaker 2: a rare opportunity to set aside partisanship and come together
- 3:54Speaker 2: to do some good by supporting the tremendous charitable work
- 3:58Speaker 2: of the Catholic Church. The church cares for the sick
- 4:01Speaker 2: and feeds the hungry, supports families with housing and education,
- 4:06Speaker 2: and in times of disaster, provides not only essential supplies
- 4:11Speaker 2: but also, in so importantly a sense of hope. The
- 4:15Speaker 2: Gospel of Luke tells us that faith has the power
- 4:19Speaker 2: to shine a light on those living in darkness and
- 4:23Speaker 2: to guide our feet in the path of peace. In
- 4:27Speaker 2: the spirit of Tonight's dinner, let us recommit to reaching
- 4:31Speaker 2: across divides to seek understanding and common ground, And in
- 4:37Speaker 2: honor of the Great Al Smith, let us fight to
- 4:41Speaker 2: build a better future with faith in God, our country
- 4:47Speaker 2: and in each other, Thank you, May God bless you,
- 4:51Speaker 2: and may God bless the United States of America.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I mean, what makes me laugh is this is like
- 4:58Speaker 1: three and a half minutes where they try to make
- 5:00Speaker 1: it funny. The number of moments that Kama Harris is
- 5:03Speaker 1: funny would be like, I think it's fair to say
- 5:05Speaker 1: zero minutes of that time. And then she brings in,
- 5:10Speaker 1: which is a funny bit from Saturday Night Live, right,
- 5:14Speaker 1: this character to advise her on how.
- 5:17Speaker 5: To be funny, and it just didn't work.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Now, the attendees were unimpressed with the fact that she
- 5:25Speaker 1: missed such an important tradition. Now, she didn't miss it
- 5:30Speaker 1: by accident. This was done on purpose. I think she
- 5:36Speaker 1: was afraid, Okay, I really do. I think she was
- 5:41Speaker 1: afraid that she would bomb Donald Trump. However, went in
- 5:46Speaker 1: there and just killed it. He had even Democrats laughing.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And when you get a opportunity to just own the
- 5:55Speaker 1: room as he did, it was pretty impressed to watch
- 6:01Speaker 1: him roast many Democrats in the room, many Democratic leaders
- 6:04Speaker 1: from New York, including who was sitting to his left
- 6:07Speaker 1: right in front of him, Chuck Schumer.
- 6:08Speaker 5: That was actually hysterical.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Some of it I can't even play for you because
- 6:12Speaker 1: some of the words are not appropriate for radio, but
- 6:15Speaker 1: nonetheless absolutely hilarious.
- 6:19Speaker 5: This is I think the difference.
- 6:22Speaker 1: The big difference here is Donald Trump yet again shows up,
- 6:27Speaker 1: Kamala Harris yet again hides, especially after what happened.
- 6:35Speaker 5: With her interview with Brett Baer.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I would have thought they would have wanted to make
- 6:40Speaker 1: sure that they went to this. I think the video
- 6:42Speaker 1: of it of her being funny, unless they just said, hey,
- 6:45Speaker 1: there's no way she can be funny, so we're just
- 6:47Speaker 1: gonna bail. And honestly, that may be part of it.
- 6:50Speaker 1: They may have just said, look, you're not funny. We
- 6:53Speaker 1: need to have a scripted video that makes it look
- 6:56Speaker 1: like you're funny. And that's how we're gonna put this
- 7:00Speaker 1: off like that, We're just gonna We're gonna do it
- 7:02Speaker 1: that way. I still think it was a bad decision.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I think if you're running for president and there's these
- 7:09Speaker 1: certain traditions, like you got to rise to the occasion,
- 7:11Speaker 1: like you just do you gotta you got to rise
- 7:14Speaker 1: the occasions, You got to be fired up, and look,
- 7:17Speaker 1: that room is liberal, it's in New York, for goodness sakes.
- 7:20Speaker 1: They would have given her cover. But when you just
- 7:23Speaker 1: don't show up, it doesn't go well. Like I mean,
- 7:27Speaker 1: it's a recipe for disaster when you don't show up.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I want to take a moment and tell you about
- 7:33Speaker 1: us a product that very well could help save your
- 7:37Speaker 1: life and actually the life of someone else at the
- 7:39Speaker 1: very same time.
- 7:41Speaker 5: And it deals with personal protection.
- 7:44Speaker 1: There is a massive increase in crime and violence around
- 7:48Speaker 1: our country, and we need to remember that personal safety
- 7:51Speaker 1: and security for you and your family is the most
- 7:54Speaker 1: important thing in life. Now, I wouldn't be here right
- 7:57Speaker 1: now if it wasn't for having a firearm that I
- 8:00Speaker 1: had to use it to literally save my life when
- 8:03Speaker 1: I was under attack from two attackers. And I know
- 8:06Speaker 1: just how fast it can happen and how important it
- 8:09Speaker 1: is to protect yourself. And that's why I talk about
- 8:12Speaker 1: this so often. Now, what if there was a way
- 8:15Speaker 1: to effectively defend yourself and de escalate a situation without
- 8:20Speaker 1: having to use the irreversible consequence as a deadly force.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I've grappled with that issue many times. Well, now there
- 8:28Speaker 1: is another option, so you don't have to worry about
- 8:32Speaker 1: pulling the trigger or worrying about the financial or mental repercussions.
- 8:37Speaker 1: You don't have to compromise on your peace of mind,
- 8:41Speaker 1: and that is because of the Burna less lethal pistol launcher.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Let me say this, if you have children that are
- 8:48Speaker 1: eighteen or older, if you have a mother in law,
- 8:51Speaker 1: a sister in law, a wife, this may be the
- 8:55Speaker 1: perfect thing for them. A Burna can save two lives.
- 8:59Speaker 1: It is a great compliment to owning firearms, and if
- 9:02Speaker 1: you or your family is in a situation where you
- 9:04Speaker 1: feel threatened, then you can start with less lethal. It
- 9:08Speaker 1: is legal in all fifty states. No permits or background
- 9:11Speaker 1: checks are needed.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Now.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I own these myself, and I got them for every
- 9:15Speaker 1: one of my family members that I just mentioned, because
- 9:17Speaker 1: that is how important it is to be able to
- 9:19Speaker 1: protect yourself. The burn A launcher has powerful determines like
- 9:22Speaker 1: tear gas and connect grounds and a sixty foot range.
- 9:26Speaker 1: One shot can incapacitate attackers for up to forty minutes.
- 9:30Speaker 1: It is used by government agencies and law enforcement around
- 9:33Speaker 1: the country. So visit Burna dot com, slash ferguson for
- 9:37Speaker 1: ten percent off your purchase. That's by r Inna dot com.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Slash ferguson for ten percent off that's by r Inna
- 9:48Speaker 1: dot com. Slash Ferguson for ten percent off your first purchase.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Brettbear explained more of the backstory of how things kind
- 9:57Speaker 1: of went down in this interval. Not only was Kamala
- 10:02Speaker 1: Harris purposely late because they were planning on doing this
- 10:06Speaker 1: interview taped to live. Basically, they were going to start
- 10:09Speaker 1: at five o'clock and then air it at six, so
- 10:12Speaker 1: as soon as the interview was ending, it was up
- 10:14Speaker 1: on the air. With the beginning, Kamala Harris was running
- 10:18Speaker 1: out the clock, showing up late for the interview on
- 10:22Speaker 1: purpose to basically minimize the amount of time he could
- 10:27Speaker 1: ask questions, and then four of her staffers losing their
- 10:30Speaker 1: minds trying to get Brettbair to wrap the interview because
- 10:33Speaker 1: it wasn't going well. There's a little more backstory on.
- 10:37Speaker 2: This, Dana.
- 10:38Speaker 8: I'll give you a little behind the scenes here. I
- 10:39Speaker 8: know you love this and it fits in with Dana
- 10:42Speaker 8: read sports. You know when the kicker in football, they
- 10:46Speaker 8: call a timeout right before he's going to kick the
- 10:49Speaker 8: field goal. They're icing the kicker. So we were supposed
- 10:53Speaker 8: to start at five pm. This was the time they
- 10:57Speaker 8: gave us. Originally, we're going to do twenty five or
- 10:59Speaker 8: thirty minutes, it came in and said, well, maybe twenty,
- 11:03Speaker 8: so it was already getting whittled down. And then the
- 11:06Speaker 8: Vice president showed up about five point fifteen. We were
- 11:09Speaker 8: pushing the envelope to be able to turn it around
- 11:12Speaker 8: for the.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Top of the six o'clock.
- 11:14Speaker 8: So that's how it started. And I could tell when
- 11:18Speaker 8: we started talking that she was going to be tough
- 11:21Speaker 8: to to, you know, redirect without me trying to interrupt.
- 11:25Speaker 8: I did this with President Obama. At one point I
- 11:28Speaker 8: just said, mister President, I know you liked the filibuster.
- 11:31Speaker 8: I just didn't even have the chance to sometimes redirect
- 11:35Speaker 8: in those ways.
- 11:36Speaker 5: I had a lot of other questions.
- 11:38Speaker 9: Yeah, so what a missed opportunity for them, right, So,
- 11:41Speaker 9: I don't know what she had before. I know she
- 11:43Speaker 9: had that one event right before. But what's more important
- 11:46Speaker 9: than this interview today on your campaign schedule? If your
- 11:49Speaker 9: goal as a candidate at this point is to win
- 11:52Speaker 9: the day when the new cycle of the day, then
- 11:55Speaker 9: your interview with Fox is arguably your most important issue.
- 11:58Speaker 9: And I think you could tell at the end that
- 12:01Speaker 9: you were having to rush through it so that you
- 12:03Speaker 9: could get to the top of the show, and you
- 12:05Speaker 9: were trying to be respectful of their time, but it
- 12:07Speaker 9: would have been really interesting for her to be able
- 12:09Speaker 9: to say to her team, no, no, let's keep going, Brett,
- 12:13Speaker 9: what else do you have?
- 12:14Speaker 2: Right?
- 12:15Speaker 9: And let it keep going?
- 12:18Speaker 1: I couldn't agree, by the way, more like, what are
- 12:20Speaker 1: you doing? Like, I'm not kidding when I say this,
- 12:23Speaker 1: what are you doing? Why do an interview? Cut it short?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Don't do the interview well?
- 12:33Speaker 10: Like?
- 12:35Speaker 1: And then you think that the American people are going
- 12:37Speaker 1: to respond in a positive light to you. It's the
- 12:40Speaker 1: best way I can describe it as delusional. And the interview,
- 12:45Speaker 1: by the way, was a disaster. Like I don't care
- 12:49Speaker 1: what anybody says about this interview. This interview was a disaster.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Donald Trump is a guy that does interviews pretty much anybody.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And you look at Harris not going to the dinner
- 13:06Speaker 1: last night. Even this morning on CNN, Smercanis was saying,
- 13:11Speaker 1: she blew it. So not only did she limit her
- 13:14Speaker 1: interview and make herself look like an amateur on Fox,
- 13:18Speaker 1: she then missed the dinner.
- 13:21Speaker 7: Michael, would you make it the dinner last night?
- 13:23Speaker 11: So I've given the props to the Vice president already
- 13:26Speaker 11: because of that. Brett Pear interview. Now, let me tell
- 13:28Speaker 11: you that I think that she blew it by not
- 13:30Speaker 11: being there. She should have been there. Humor can be
- 13:33Speaker 11: such an effective political tool. I thought that Donald Trump
- 13:38Speaker 11: misread the room. I thought that he was undisciplined and
- 13:41Speaker 11: mostly unfunny. That editing of what you just showed was
- 13:45Speaker 11: very sympathetic to Trump because those were his absolute best lines,
- 13:49Speaker 11: and in most other instances he just missed the market.
- 13:53Speaker 11: It was cringe worthy and it was unnecessarily nasty. He
- 13:57Speaker 11: blew an opportunity.
- 13:58Speaker 5: As well to come in.
- 13:59Speaker 11: Hey, respect to the cardinal, be funny, keep it above board.
- 14:02Speaker 11: He should have taken a page from Jim Gaffigan. Gaffigan
- 14:05Speaker 11: was hysterical and set the right tone for a night
- 14:08Speaker 11: like that.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Now, no doubt about it that Smerconna s hates Trump, right,
- 14:13Speaker 1: so he's got to criticize. But he did say, and
- 14:15Speaker 1: if you listen, Harris blew it by not attending the
- 14:18Speaker 1: Al Smith dinner. Humor can be such an effective political tool.
- 14:21Speaker 1: He's absolutely right. But when you don't trust your candidate,
- 14:26Speaker 1: this is what ends up happening, you know. Al Sharpton
- 14:31Speaker 1: said of Trump's Al Smith dinner remarks, which were hilarious.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And this is what they do every time, no matter
- 14:36Speaker 1: who you are, they'd say, oh, you're offensive and you're
- 14:40Speaker 1: you're awful. Rights, that's who you are. You're offensive and
- 14:44Speaker 1: you're terrible. Donald Trump sucks like I expect this, but
- 14:48Speaker 1: she wasn't there either, and that hurt her.
- 14:50Speaker 5: I think even more.
- 14:51Speaker 10: I think there's been clear for those of us that
- 14:54Speaker 10: have known and dealt with Donald Trump, throw and Colin
- 14:57Speaker 10: for years that he is really, in many ways not
- 15:01Speaker 10: the Donald Trump that we fought or that we dealt with.
- 15:05Speaker 10: No energy, there no sound bites that make sense. He's
- 15:09Speaker 10: lost it, and I think that it's almost like pushing
- 15:12Speaker 10: an old boxer back in the ring that you know
- 15:15Speaker 10: he can't fight, but just tell them to hold on
- 15:17Speaker 10: to the tenth round, and they're trying to make him
- 15:19Speaker 10: hold on and he just doesn't have it. He's sitting
- 15:22Speaker 10: in the stool saying, I don't want to go back
- 15:24Speaker 10: out there. I mean, last night his appearance at the
- 15:27Speaker 10: alfredy Smith dinner was ridiculous. It was offensive and it
- 15:31Speaker 10: was way off the mark. And I think that him
- 15:34Speaker 10: canceling the shade is in many ways saying there's a
- 15:38Speaker 10: shade on his whole campaign.
- 15:41Speaker 5: That's the attack you're going to get.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And that's when you know they're losing because they're like, well, Donald,
- 15:48Speaker 1: Notice how now age is everything right there?
- 15:49Speaker 6: Oh?
- 15:50Speaker 5: Donald Trump's old? He's losing it right.
- 15:51Speaker 1: They're using the same lines that we actually saw the
- 15:54Speaker 1: cognitive decline of Joe Biden, and they couldn't use those
- 15:57Speaker 1: lines because Joe Biden was still in the race. Now
- 15:59Speaker 1: that he's out, like, oh, he's old, right, Karen Finny
- 16:03Speaker 1: getting the memo on CNN saying the same thing. Do
- 16:07Speaker 1: you want a stable leader handling these global conflicts or
- 16:10Speaker 1: a little unhinged Trump? So this is their closing argument.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Karen Finny is a CNN political commentator. They must have
- 16:19Speaker 1: all gotten their talking points in the last twenty four
- 16:21Speaker 1: hours that Okay, we've got to go back to trying
- 16:25Speaker 1: to turn Trump into an unhinged individual, and we're just
- 16:29Speaker 1: gonna say it over and over again, and maybe the
- 16:31Speaker 1: voters will believe us because that's our new lie.
- 16:33Speaker 7: But more importantly, here's what I do think matters when
- 16:37Speaker 7: people are thinking about these global conflicts, and the more
- 16:40Speaker 7: we are seeing, like we saw last night, unhinged Donald
- 16:44Speaker 7: Trump going off on random tangents, profanitely lace rants. He
- 16:49Speaker 7: seems less stable, and even in twenty sixteen, one of
- 16:53Speaker 7: the things we found in the polling consistently, even though
- 16:57Speaker 7: people said they were going to vote for him and
- 16:58Speaker 7: they liked him, they were nervous about him having his
- 17:01Speaker 7: hand on the nuclear codes. And so I do think
- 17:04Speaker 7: what these conflicts remind people is do you want a
- 17:07Speaker 7: stable leader or do you.
- 17:09Speaker 6: Want somebody who's coming on little unghinge, who's not going
- 17:13Speaker 6: to have the same kind of guardrails around him, frankly
- 17:17Speaker 6: to keep him in check.
- 17:20Speaker 7: We know how he said he wants to lose our military.
- 17:24Speaker 7: They've said that, you know, his own military, his own
- 17:26Speaker 7: advisors have said he is a national security danger. So
- 17:30Speaker 7: I think that also comes into play here.
- 17:34Speaker 1: There's the narrative for the next twenty days. Donald Trump
- 17:39Speaker 1: is unhinged. They used it in the last election. It
- 17:43Speaker 1: seemed to work, and so now they're doing the exact
- 17:46Speaker 1: same thing now. Bob Woodwards out with a new book,
- 17:52Speaker 1: same thing. What does he say, same thing?
- 17:56Speaker 5: Right? A little unhinged here, little unhinged.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I'm not surprised, Okay, I'm not I'm not surprised at all.
- 18:08Speaker 5: That this is where we are.
- 18:11Speaker 1: And you know, Donnie Deutscher whatever his name is, on
- 18:14Speaker 1: MSNBC he said Trump will turn the US into hungry
- 18:19Speaker 1: and said, oh, the he's going to become a dictator,
- 18:22Speaker 1: by the way, I know, I know Victor Orbun sat
- 18:24Speaker 1: with him several times in Budapest.
- 18:28Speaker 5: Not a dictator.
- 18:29Speaker 1: He does, by the way, like like closed borders and
- 18:31Speaker 1: doesn't think that you should have illegal immigrants running him up.
- 18:34Speaker 5: That's that's that's true.
- 18:37Speaker 1: He has order in his state and people hate that,
- 18:40Speaker 1: and so they're like, oh, this guy's radically, he's extremist,
- 18:42Speaker 1: he's crazy, and you just got to laugh. You've got
- 18:45Speaker 1: to laugh when this stuff happens, because it is, in
- 18:47Speaker 1: fact that funny. Yesterday, in that conversation that took place
- 18:54Speaker 1: with Brett Bher and Kamala Harris, there is one moment
- 18:57Speaker 1: that is really continuing to go viral, and it is
- 19:01Speaker 1: about the impact of legal immigration in this country and
- 19:04Speaker 1: those that have died because the policies.
- 19:07Speaker 8: Take a listen, Joscelyn Mungarry, Rachel morin lacln Riley. They
- 19:13Speaker 8: are young women who were brutally assaulted and killed by
- 19:16Speaker 8: some of the men who were released at the beginning
- 19:18Speaker 8: of the administration, well before a negotiated bipartisan bill. Former
- 19:23Speaker 8: President Clinton actually referred to Lake and Riley Sunday campaigning
- 19:26Speaker 8: for you, and Georgie is saying, if those men had
- 19:28Speaker 8: been properly vetted, Lake and Riley probably would not have
- 19:31Speaker 8: been killed.
- 19:32Speaker 5: So if it wouldn't have happened, this.
- 19:35Speaker 8: Is well before any negotiation, This is well before Donald
- 19:38Speaker 8: Trump got involved in the politics. This is a specific
- 19:41Speaker 8: policy decision by your administration to release these men into
- 19:45Speaker 8: the country. So what I'm saying to you, do you
- 19:47Speaker 8: know those families? I think an apology.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Let me just say, first of all, those are tragic cases.
- 19:54Speaker 2: There's no question about that. There's no question about that.
- 19:59Speaker 2: And I can to imagine the pain that the families
- 20:03Speaker 2: of those victims have experienced for a loss that should
- 20:07Speaker 2: not have occurred. So that is true. It is also
- 20:14Speaker 2: true that if a board of security had actually been
- 20:17Speaker 2: passed nine months ago, it would be nine months that
- 20:21Speaker 2: we would have had more border agents at the border,
- 20:24Speaker 2: more support for the folks who are working around the
- 20:28Speaker 2: clock trying to hold it all together.
- 20:30Speaker 8: Madam President, ensure that.
- 20:32Speaker 2: No future harm would occur, and this election in twenty
- 20:37Speaker 2: days will determine whether we have a president of the
- 20:41Speaker 2: United States who actually cares more about fixing a problem,
- 20:45Speaker 2: even if it is not to their political advantage in
- 20:48Speaker 2: an election. Because there was a solution, Bret.
- 20:51Speaker 8: Madam, Vice President, it was a policy decision in the
- 20:54Speaker 8: early part of your administration. I will let one of
- 20:57Speaker 8: the mothers talk about it. Take a listen.
- 21:00Speaker 12: Because of the Biden Harris administration open border policies catch
- 21:05Speaker 12: and release, they were enrolled in the Alternatives to Detention program.
- 21:09Speaker 12: This meant that they were released into the United States.
- 21:12Speaker 12: It was not even a full three weeks later that
- 21:14Speaker 12: they would take my daughter, Joscelyn Ungery's life.
- 21:17Speaker 10: I believe the.
- 21:18Speaker 12: Biden Harris administration open border policies are responsible for the
- 21:22Speaker 12: death of my daughter.
- 21:24Speaker 8: That's the early days. So do you owe them an apologies?
- 21:28Speaker 2: I shall tell you that I am so sorry for
- 21:30Speaker 2: her loss. I am so sorry for her loss sincerely,
- 21:37Speaker 2: But let's talk about what is happening right now with
- 21:42Speaker 2: an individual who does not want to participate in solutions.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Let's talk about that as well. I want to answer,
- 21:49Speaker 2: in all fairness, I told you I feel awful for
- 21:52Speaker 2: what she and her family had experienced during that time.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Notice there's no apology. It's very clear she's not gonna
- 22:02Speaker 1: admit that her policy of open borders and allowing millions
- 22:06Speaker 1: of people to come in this country illegally is a
- 22:10Speaker 1: policy that she is going to say, Hey, yeah, I
- 22:13Speaker 1: really screwed that up. Like it's not gonna happen. Because
- 22:17Speaker 1: when you're fundamentally trying to change this country, this is
- 22:20Speaker 1: exactly what you do. And if you think she's going
- 22:23Speaker 1: to change your policy, if she's elected in twenty plus days,
- 22:27Speaker 1: you're wrong. She's clearly not going to She's made that clear.
- 22:34Speaker 5: I'm not changing. You're not gonna force me to change.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I may lie to you, i may tell you something different,
- 22:45Speaker 1: I may point in a different direction, but at the
- 22:52Speaker 1: end of the day, I'm not doing it right, at
- 22:56Speaker 1: the end of the day, I'm not changing.
- 22:59Speaker 5: That is what I'm not going to do.
- 23:02Speaker 1: And I think you can clearly hear that she is
- 23:06Speaker 1: defiant even when the worst stories come out, even when
- 23:10Speaker 1: things get tough.
- 23:12Speaker 8: You know, voters tell polsters all over the country and
- 23:15Speaker 8: here in Pennsylvania that immigration is one of the key
- 23:17Speaker 8: issues that they're looking at this election, and specifically the
- 23:20Speaker 8: influx of illegal immigrants from more than one hundred and
- 23:23Speaker 8: fifty countries. How many illegal immigrants would you estimate your
- 23:29Speaker 8: administration has released into the country over the last three
- 23:33Speaker 8: and a half years.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Well, I'm glad you raised the issue of immigration because
- 23:36Speaker 2: I agree with you it is it is a topic
- 23:39Speaker 2: of discussion that people.
- 23:40Speaker 6: Want to rightly have.
- 23:42Speaker 2: And you know what I'm going to talk about.
- 23:44Speaker 8: Yeah, but do you're just a number? Do you think
- 23:46Speaker 8: it's one million, three million?
- 23:48Speaker 2: Rt Let's just get to the point, okay. The point
- 23:51Speaker 2: is that we have a broken immigration system that needs
- 23:55Speaker 2: to be repaired.
- 23:56Speaker 8: So your Homeland Security secretary said that eighty five percent
- 23:59Speaker 8: of apprehension.
- 24:00Speaker 7: I'm not finished.
- 24:00Speaker 2: We have we have some of six.
- 24:03Speaker 8: Million people have been released into the country, and let
- 24:06Speaker 8: me just finish. I'll get you the question.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I promise you. I was beginning to answer.
- 24:09Speaker 5: And when you.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Can hear it there like she's not backing down, and
- 24:15Speaker 1: she wasn't answering the question. And he's like, how many
- 24:19Speaker 1: millions have you led into this country with your policies?
- 24:23Speaker 1: And do you regret that decision of letting in millions
- 24:27Speaker 1: and millions and millions? And that's not an exaggeration of
- 24:31Speaker 1: illegal immigrants coming to this country when people are suffering.
- 24:34Speaker 1: One of the questions I wish a journalist would ask.
- 24:37Speaker 1: And this is not a critique of Brett Beer, because
- 24:39Speaker 1: he did an amazing job. I'm just saying in general,
- 24:42Speaker 1: one of the questions that I wish was asked would
- 24:49Speaker 1: be this, what do you say to all the Americans
- 24:55Speaker 1: who are having a really hard time, a really hard
- 25:02Speaker 1: time trying to find affordable housing when they're competing with
- 25:07Speaker 1: ten million, eleven million, twelve million, fifteen million illegal immigrants
- 25:14Speaker 1: for housing. Many of the people that supported you and
- 25:18Speaker 1: support you are having a hard time finding affordable housing.
- 25:24Speaker 1: So what do you say to them as they're out
- 25:26Speaker 1: there competing with millions and millions of legal immigrants.
- 25:28Speaker 5: For that housing?
- 25:29Speaker 1: Like, that's not I don't believe a political question that
- 25:33Speaker 1: that for me, is just an honest, real world question
- 25:41Speaker 1: that should be applied to anybody that is running for
- 25:44Speaker 1: office when this is what they are saying, and this
- 25:46Speaker 1: is what they believe in, and this is what they
- 25:48Speaker 1: are doing. She can't answer that question. And these are
- 25:54Speaker 1: the types of questions that need to be asked.
- 25:57Speaker 8: So decriminalizing border cross things like you said in twenty nineteen.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I do not believe in decriminalizing border crossings, and I've
- 26:06Speaker 2: not done that as vice president. I will not do
- 26:08Speaker 2: that as president.
- 26:09Speaker 8: So these are ass that you've had.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Well, let's be very clear. I'm the only person who's
- 26:13Speaker 2: running for president who is prosecuted transnational criminal organizations, from
- 26:18Speaker 2: the Sinaloa cartel to the Guadalajara quote cartel to people
- 26:24Speaker 2: who have trafficked in guns, drugs, and human beings. I
- 26:26Speaker 2: have spent a significant part of my career going after
- 26:31Speaker 2: people who present a threat to the safety of the
- 26:34Speaker 2: American people and cross our border with the intent of
- 26:39Speaker 2: doing US harm and cross our border illegally, and I
- 26:42Speaker 2: will do that work as vice president. I take that
- 26:45Speaker 2: work quite seriously.
- 26:46Speaker 8: This is a time when vote.
- 26:49Speaker 1: I mean, listen to what she said, and believe her.
- 26:54Speaker 1: She said it. He quoted her accurately. You want to
- 26:58Speaker 1: decriminalize people come across the border illegally. That is what
- 27:02Speaker 1: you've said, That's what you've advocated for, that is what.
- 27:04Speaker 5: You've wanted to do.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Comedian Jim Gaffagin addressing the Al Smith dinner last night,
- 27:12Speaker 1: he had some pretty good one liners for you, including
- 27:15Speaker 1: this one.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Yeah, this has been an interesting presidential campaign. But Democrats
- 27:21Speaker 4: have been telling us Trump Trump's reelection is a threat
- 27:26Speaker 4: to democracy. In fact, they were so concerned of this
- 27:29Speaker 4: threat they staged a coup, ousted there democratically elected incumbent
- 27:36Speaker 4: and installed Kamala Harris. In other words, all her dreams
- 27:41Speaker 4: have come true. It really makes you consider the power
- 27:45Speaker 4: of prayer, right, Cardinal, Sometimes prayers take three and a
- 27:50Speaker 4: half years and a George Clooney op ed, I don't
- 27:58Speaker 4: know who's angry, but I don't care anyway, can I
- 28:03Speaker 4: point out? So it's a you know, I think I
- 28:07Speaker 4: should get right to you know.
- 28:10Speaker 1: It's I love by the way that he actually did that,
- 28:15Speaker 1: because it's the truth, right, It just makes me laugh,
- 28:21Speaker 1: like it's so abundantly clear. He also he said that
- 28:27Speaker 1: and again go back this line. Dems have been so
- 28:30Speaker 1: concerned about Trump, they threatened democracy, about Trump's threatening democracy
- 28:35Speaker 1: that they staged a coup. Jim also took a shot
- 28:40Speaker 1: at the Democrats for just getting rid of Joe Biden.
- 28:45Speaker 4: This, of course, is a Catholic event honoring Governor Al Smith,
- 28:50Speaker 4: who in nineteen twenty eight was the first Catholic to
- 28:55Speaker 4: run on a major party to put that in perspective.
- 28:58Speaker 4: In nineteen twenty eight, Chuck Schumer was a first term senator.
- 29:05Speaker 5: Thanks for sitting here, Chuck.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Of course, Joe Biden was our second Catholic president, right
- 29:14Speaker 4: after JFK. President. Biden couldn't be here tonight. The DNC
- 29:19Speaker 4: made sure of that. Oh, oh that's I guess I'm
- 29:33Speaker 4: the only one that reads history.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I love, by the way, then mocks the ones that
- 29:38Speaker 1: Booty's like, Oh, I guess I'm the only one that
- 29:41Speaker 1: reads history. Yes, Jim also making another point about Catholic voters.
- 29:52Speaker 4: You know, this event has been referred to as the
- 29:56Speaker 4: Catholic met Gala of Americans identify as Catholic. Catholics will
- 30:04Speaker 4: be a key demographic in every battle ground state. I'm sorry,
- 30:10Speaker 4: why is Vice President Harris not here?
- 30:20Speaker 5: I mean, consider this.
- 30:22Speaker 4: This is a room full of Catholics and Jews in
- 30:26Speaker 4: New York City. This is a layup for the Democratic nominee.
- 30:34Speaker 4: I mean in her defense, I mean she did find
- 30:37Speaker 4: time to appear on the View Howard Stern, Colbert and
- 30:43Speaker 4: the longtime staple of campaigning to call her Daddy podcast.
- 30:51Speaker 4: You know what I think it is. I think she
- 30:54Speaker 4: doesn't like me. Chuck, do I have bad breath?
- 31:01Speaker 13: You know?
- 31:02Speaker 4: But I love New York City.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I mean, he was relentlessly pointing out the obvious, right
- 31:08Speaker 1: like he was like that, that's just exactly. This is
- 31:14Speaker 1: one of those moments where he told truth to a
- 31:20Speaker 1: room full of powerful people that are honestly scumbags who
- 31:24Speaker 1: did stage a coup, and then mocked the fact that
- 31:28Speaker 1: like this is a woman's like this. Catholics are key
- 31:30Speaker 1: demographic and she couldn't shop tonight. It's too busy doing
- 31:33Speaker 1: interviews and call her daddy Donald Trump on Kama's absence.
- 31:41Speaker 1: This is what he said about that.
- 31:42Speaker 5: Listen, it's changed the name this way.
- 31:44Speaker 13: What you know they it is Democrat. But I must
- 31:48Speaker 13: say I was shocked when I heard that Kamala was
- 31:51Speaker 13: skipping the Al Smith dinner. I'd really hope that she
- 31:54Speaker 13: would come, because we can't get enough of hearing her
- 31:57Speaker 13: beautiful laugh. She laughs like crazy. We would recognize at
- 32:02Speaker 13: any place in this room, and all poles are indicating
- 32:05Speaker 13: I'm leading big with the Catholic vote, as I should be,
- 32:10Speaker 13: as I should be. But I don't think Kamala has
- 32:13Speaker 13: given up yet. She hasn't. Instead of attending tonight she's
- 32:17Speaker 13: in Michigan receiving communion from Gretchen Whitmer. That's not a
- 32:26Speaker 13: pretty sight. But Catholics, please don't be too insulted by
- 32:32Speaker 13: Kamala's absence. If the Democrats, thank you very much. I
- 32:38Speaker 13: appreciate it. The Democrats really wanted to have someone not
- 32:42Speaker 13: be with us.
- 32:45Speaker 1: I love the fact that he's just like, yeah, I'm here,
- 32:48Speaker 1: she's not. I'm going to torch this room and just
- 32:51Speaker 1: burn it down. It's just amazing, it really is. I
- 33:00Speaker 1: three five nine seven three two five three five nine
- 33:04Speaker 1: seven three two one four seven four nine seven three
- 33:08Speaker 1: two one. Last thing that was said was this about
- 33:12Speaker 1: it was a pleasure to be invited. As Donald Trump
- 33:15Speaker 1: put it, Listen, that's not an.
- 33:19Speaker 13: Easy thing to do, especially when your name is Trump
- 33:21Speaker 13: and you're on the New York Times list. I think
- 33:23Speaker 13: that thing I must be selling like hotcakes. But thank
- 33:27Speaker 13: you for match. I appreciate. Good job you did it.
- 33:30Speaker 13: That's a true pleasure to be with you this evening.
- 33:32Speaker 13: Amazing pleasure. And these days it's really a pleasure anywhere
- 33:38Speaker 13: in New York without a subpoena for my appearance anytime,
- 33:46Speaker 13: I don't get a subpoena. I'm very happy they've gone
- 33:50Speaker 13: after me, mister.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Like I just love the humor and the accuracy of it.
- 33:56Speaker 5: It's so accurate. It is just in regredibly accurate. I
- 34:03Speaker 5: love it. I absolutely love it.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Make sure you share this podcast with your family and
- 34:08Speaker 1: your friends, and I'll see you back here tomorrow
