- 0:15Hello, I'm Alana Ace. For a long time, my relationship
- 0:19has been measured in bit rates and cable management.
- 0:23I've spent the better part of a decade behind
- 0:25the scenes, building machines, checking the audio
- 0:28feeds and analyzing data logs for other people's
- 0:31stories. But today, the calibration is a little
- 0:35bit different. I'm finally moving the microphone
- 0:37to the center of the desk. This is the first
- 0:40official signal of Alana Unleashed. It feels
- 0:44a bit strange to be the one talking rather than
- 0:47the one listening, but more a little duality
- 0:50is just part of the design. I'm coming to you
- 0:53from my studio in Michigan. If you've never been
- 0:56to the west coast of the Mitten, it's a place
- 0:59to find by its edges. One day the sun is hitting
- 1:02the dunes and the next the like effect mist is
- 1:04so thick. It looks like a low render distance
- 1:09filter from a 1996 survival horror game. Right
- 1:13as the internet was finding its feed and 3D gaming
- 1:16was learning to crawl, I grew up in the bridge
- 1:19era caught between the tactile click of a physical
- 1:22button and the infinite reach of a fiber optic
- 1:26cable. That middle ground is where I live. People
- 1:30ask me why I obsess over the bones of a story
- 1:33instead of the hype. When I look at a piece of
- 1:35tech or character design, I'm looking for the
- 1:38engineering. If you're here for the latest rumors,
- 1:41industry leaks or guessing games about what might
- 1:44happen three years from now, you are likely in
- 1:47the wrong place. There are plenty of other people
- 1:50better, uh, throw at future casting. I'll leave
- 1:54the crystal balls to them. Here, we're going
- 1:57to talk about the why. Why does the 1992 Batman
- 2:00Utility Belt feel more real than a modern CGI
- 2:03suit? Why does the layout of a 32 -bit RPG map
- 2:07make you feel more at home than a 4K open world?
- 2:11We're looking for the soul in the machine, the
- 2:14functional art that makes a story stick to your
- 2:17rims. If a designer took the time to build a
- 2:20detail, I'm taking the time to deconstruct it.
- 2:24So this show is my workspace, made public. It's
- 2:29a bit of an experiment moving from the silent
- 2:32observer to the analyst, but I think it's time
- 2:35we started looking at pop culture through a sharper
- 2:39lens. I'm a fan by heart, but I'm a technician
- 2:42by habit. I can't wait to show you what I see
- 2:46in the details. So, the date is longed, and the
- 2:50feed is clean. I'm a lot of ace. Thanks for hanging
- 2:55out with me for a bit. Our first deep dive drops
- 2:58soon. Until then, I'll catch you at the next
- 3:01save point. Take care.
