- 1:11Speaker 1: years old and in nineteen that which launched his career
- 1:14Speaker 1: after he recorded and posted to YouTube and video of
- 1:18Speaker 1: his performers of Reverend Paul Jones I Won't Complain, which
- 1:22Speaker 1: he performed in his high school cafeterer in on the
- 1:26Speaker 1: last day of school. I don't know what he was
- 1:28Speaker 1: complained about it, but he sucked, but it was the
- 1:30Speaker 1: last day of school. The video amassed over one million views.
- 1:35Speaker 1: He's a gospel singer, a worship leader who releases debate album,
- 1:39Speaker 1: The Higher Experience on April this year, which features the
- 1:42Speaker 1: singles no Ordinary Worship and Higher Please Welcome to Money.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Megan conversation nineteen years old, Full of vigor, Colante Gavin
- 1:56Speaker 1: Ippen tell you something, young man. First of all, congratulations.
- 2:00Speaker 1: When I say congratulations to you, um, you know I
- 2:04Speaker 1: always looked at listening to h I look at my
- 2:07Speaker 1: life because I I've led a very fortunate life. But
- 2:10Speaker 1: I always know that I wasn't quick to make decisions
- 2:13Speaker 1: I didn't really understand myself in nineteen and I didn't
- 2:16Speaker 1: understand myself at thirty. I'll be honest with you for it.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I was still confused, and you figured it out to
- 2:23Speaker 1: this point. And now you know, as you grew older,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you will change, you will be you would do some things,
- 2:28Speaker 1: But at this point you knew this is what you
- 2:31Speaker 1: wanted to do. Correct, Yes, sir, I knew it. I
- 2:34Speaker 1: knew it. I knew it went the help of God,
- 2:36Speaker 1: of course, but yes, sir, I knew it. Man, you're
- 2:39Speaker 1: on it. And so how did you put those those
- 2:41Speaker 1: steps into action? Oh? My gosh. Well, I grew up
- 2:45Speaker 1: in a you know, a Christian home. Um, so my
- 2:48Speaker 1: mom and my dad lived by you know, um me
- 2:52Speaker 1: and my house well served the Lord. And so I'm
- 2:54Speaker 1: so grateful for my parents and my guidance and and
- 2:57Speaker 1: you know, them being great leaders to teach me the
- 3:00Speaker 1: ways and to know how to be in the will
- 3:02Speaker 1: of God. It wasn't forced upon me like I've heard
- 3:05Speaker 1: stories of other young people. You know, they have no
- 3:07Speaker 1: other choice. But with my parents, they gave me a
- 3:09Speaker 1: choice because at the end of the day, they said,
- 3:11Speaker 1: you you are accountable for every decision that you make,
- 3:14Speaker 1: whether it's good or bad, they're gonna be consequences. So
- 3:17Speaker 1: they gave me the word, gave us the words, and
- 3:19Speaker 1: so whatever we did after the word was on us
- 3:21Speaker 1: and not them. And so I'm so glad for the
- 3:24Speaker 1: guy that is where I come from. Then, so shout
- 3:26Speaker 1: out to my parents. Man, Yes, they're definitely not tell
- 3:30Speaker 1: us about your parents. What did your what did your
- 3:32Speaker 1: father do for loving? What your mom do for leving?
- 3:34Speaker 1: Because I put this a platform for Mr Gafft, you know
- 3:38Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, old gospel superstar. Oh man to
- 3:43Speaker 1: God with me the girl. So my parents are military,
- 3:45Speaker 1: meaning through my mom did the thirteen years in the Army.
- 3:49Speaker 1: My dad he was in the Marines. And so yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 1: how that how they mixed up, we don't know. But
- 3:55Speaker 1: but but yes, third, they are amazing people were tidy military.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Um there in ministry and so we're all in minutes,
- 4:03Speaker 1: so it's just so grateful they're not passing, but we're
- 4:06Speaker 1: just seven minutes. So I'm grateful the guy for that.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I'm one of seven siblings, so God's bless me um
- 4:12Speaker 1: with my ships across the world. But in the house
- 4:15Speaker 1: we have four and so man pray for me. Bee,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you're some young ones of trying to get them, you know,
- 4:20Speaker 1: get them on the right narrow. I remember, I'm just saying, anybody, Hi,
- 4:24Speaker 1: how I found you? You know, you became part of
- 4:27Speaker 1: my brand of my awareness. I was I live in Atlanta, Georgia,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and there's a radio station. Uh And I get up
- 4:35Speaker 1: early four thirty and I getting my car and I
- 4:38Speaker 1: drive to my office. Is five thirty in the morning.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I'm telling you, if five through them on your board,
- 4:42Speaker 1: be driving. And it's a hip hop station, but before
- 4:44Speaker 1: they start playing hip hop, they play gospel. And and
- 4:49Speaker 1: then he was interviewing you and what was and you
- 4:52Speaker 1: were so profound and I find out you were an
- 4:54Speaker 1: eighteen years old I went, okay, who was just old dude?
- 4:58Speaker 1: Stuck in this nineteen year old body? You man, can
- 5:07Speaker 1: you hear that a lot? Don't you hear that a
- 5:09Speaker 1: lot time? All the time? All the time. I hear
- 5:15Speaker 1: all the time. But you know that's not that's not
- 5:18Speaker 1: a negative now, because like I said, that's not a negative.
- 5:21Speaker 1: That's a because I'm complimenting you, because that's a degree
- 5:24Speaker 1: of maturity. It goes back to your parents again, A
- 5:27Speaker 1: shout out to Mr Army and Mr Marine and Mr
- 5:32Speaker 1: Marine because they they you know I come from my
- 5:36Speaker 1: my father and my mom. Yes or no, sir, you
- 5:39Speaker 1: know that I didn't and I would tell you I cussed. Now.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I do use bad words now, but when it wasn't
- 5:46Speaker 1: to Natine that I said one. You know when Day
- 5:50Speaker 1: and I made up for lost time now, but I
- 5:53Speaker 1: didn't outther worry. I used to play basketball in the
- 5:55Speaker 1: court and I would I would talk correctly. Why are
- 5:58Speaker 1: you why are you all hitting me so hard? Are
- 6:00Speaker 1: that is unnecessary? And that they were looking at me?
- 6:03Speaker 1: Go what what this dude? O? Curse? What's going on here? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Why is he talking like this? Because they put a
- 6:09Speaker 1: discipline in me, just like your parents can't put a
- 6:13Speaker 1: discipline in you. A course of action that you've chosen
- 6:16Speaker 1: to follow, and you're willing to share that course of
- 6:19Speaker 1: action in your music. So talk to us about your music,
- 6:22Speaker 1: Mr Gavin, Oh my gosh, I just released my bast
- 6:26Speaker 1: new album, The High Risps in April, So tell it
- 6:30Speaker 1: to my Maazement Team Markets with Enterprises, a labeled company
- 6:34Speaker 1: with whom we're in partnership with High Scott Amazing Family
- 6:38Speaker 1: the amazing album. I believe anybody that gets it you
- 6:40Speaker 1: will not be disappointed. Gets on all digital outlets. So
- 6:44Speaker 1: tell your cousins and everybody to go grab Kilan Kate
- 6:47Speaker 1: Gavin's hot new fresh album, The Higher expe Man something like,
- 6:53Speaker 1: guys are really blessing me managed to travel a custom
- 6:56Speaker 1: country and just to articulate and share the heart of
- 6:58Speaker 1: God with people you know you can't. The reason why
- 7:01Speaker 1: I name it the Higher Experiences because you know everybody,
- 7:04Speaker 1: you know we you know we've been to higher places.
- 7:06Speaker 1: But I believe God wants to take us higher than
- 7:08Speaker 1: your life and your family, and your finances, in your relationships,
- 7:12Speaker 1: your leverage, whatever is. God wants to take us higher.
- 7:16Speaker 1: But in going higher, you cannot forget about every low
- 7:19Speaker 1: place you've been. You can't have a high without a low,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and soon's up gonna have a top without a bottom.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So I'm grateful for every pit place, every dark place
- 7:27Speaker 1: that God, you know that that I've went through, my
- 7:29Speaker 1: family went through, regardless you know of of of of
- 7:32Speaker 1: where we come from or even where we're going. I
- 7:34Speaker 1: learned that true maturity is not just about acknowledging your future,
- 7:39Speaker 1: but it's a learning to appreciate your path and once
- 7:42Speaker 1: you learn to appreciate what you've got, oh, man, got
- 7:44Speaker 1: to put more in your hands. And so I'm just
- 7:46Speaker 1: grateful for that, man. So that's what the higher experience is. Man.
- 7:49Speaker 1: So yes, sir, yes, you have two singles, No Ordinary
- 7:53Speaker 1: Worship and then Higher Now Worship man. And he actually
- 8:02Speaker 1: had a video of me singing it on my porch
- 8:04Speaker 1: in the country of South Carolina. Man, it was viral,
- 8:07Speaker 1: I mean, like over at one point five million views
- 8:10Speaker 1: and uh nor New worshiped the New Fresh single that
- 8:14Speaker 1: I got a little prince feel to it, a little
- 8:16Speaker 1: prince prince a Look was it purple Prince Prince. You
- 8:25Speaker 1: gotta see the video on YouTube because they had the
- 8:27Speaker 1: purple lection everything. It was just awesome. We did it
- 8:30Speaker 1: live in Atlanta, recorded live in Atlanta. So Er they
- 8:33Speaker 1: worship and Higher my mom wrote Higher Man. My mom
- 8:36Speaker 1: wrote that God give her that song and he went
- 8:39Speaker 1: across the world. So I'm so grateful for that man,
- 8:41Speaker 1: Mr Gavin, Look here, don't you go nowhere? Um Sean
- 8:46Speaker 1: McDonald just my show money making conversation. I got more
- 8:49Speaker 1: to say to you, You got more to tell the world.
- 8:52Speaker 1: First of all, I love how you just jumped out that.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I mean when I asked about that album or you
- 8:56Speaker 1: was on fire? Were right back for more money making conversation.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Keep winning, everybody, keep winning. He's still on the phone,
- 9:04Speaker 1: my good friend. He has tour of the country in
- 9:07Speaker 1: support of his album, The Higher Experience Crusade this past spring,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and had other highlights of this pass spring at the
- 9:13Speaker 1: eighteen Annual Gospel Superfest and the Stellar Gospel Music Awards
- 9:17Speaker 1: Showcase earlier this year, and remains in demand with a
- 9:20Speaker 1: business schedule on the road currently with his ministry engagement.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Please welcome back to the show, Kalante Gavin. I'm telling something.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I'm telling something. Mr Gavin, You're a special You're you're
- 9:36Speaker 1: you're you're a visionary. What I want to just go
- 9:39Speaker 1: back to, Okay, sixteen years old, you just start singing,
- 9:43Speaker 1: singing from your home? How did that? Okay? Because you
- 9:46Speaker 1: know I'm just tell you this. That's gonna be real now, okay.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Is that we're in a we're in a We're in
- 9:52Speaker 1: an era where you know, social media is powerful. Um,
- 9:56Speaker 1: people people will say you're just supposed to act a
- 9:59Speaker 1: certain way, You're supposed addressed a certain way, and in
- 10:01Speaker 1: sixty years old. You found God in a very in
- 10:04Speaker 1: a very socially acceptable way. Mmm, that's so good. Yep.
- 10:10Speaker 1: On in the high school cafeteria. Um man, it's lunch time. Man,
- 10:14Speaker 1: it's a lunch time and so of course we know
- 10:17Speaker 1: I was supposed to be eating, but here I am
- 10:19Speaker 1: being acced the single song on the last dale school
- 10:23Speaker 1: and uh actually was the second to the last day
- 10:26Speaker 1: of school. But man, now going through my head at
- 10:29Speaker 1: this time, I'm like, okay, without hesitation, I leaned over
- 10:33Speaker 1: and Reverend Paul Jones, I won't complain comes out and
- 10:37Speaker 1: a cafeteria worker recorded it in her recordings. He posted
- 10:41Speaker 1: it on Facebook and we didn't know until maybe a
- 10:44Speaker 1: week later. It went viral like like, man, like you just,
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm still amazing this day that that a little country
- 10:52Speaker 1: board from South Carolina went viral like it's just it's amazing.
- 10:57Speaker 1: It's amazing to me, it's amazing. So it was all God, Man,
- 11:00Speaker 1: I've traveled the world because of that song. The world,
- 11:03Speaker 1: the world. So yeah, did you see the video? Man?
- 11:07Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely, And it wasn't like it was shot with
- 11:10Speaker 1: a lot of money. It was just a person just
- 11:15Speaker 1: held up a phone captured your God given talents. Oh
- 11:20Speaker 1: my gosh, And and it went viral, like it's just
- 11:23Speaker 1: it's amazing, man, It's amazing. Like God has even blessing
- 11:26Speaker 1: my family and me and just to meet new people. Man,
- 11:29Speaker 1: the fact that I'm on this interview, like I'm honored, man,
- 11:31Speaker 1: like God is. God is just so good you never
- 11:33Speaker 1: know it. Just and I told somebody the other day,
- 11:35Speaker 1: just as social media is a blessing, it can also
- 11:38Speaker 1: be a curse. So I talked about that curse, Caul,
- 11:40Speaker 1: just talking about that cursed bull. Man. You just gotta
- 11:43Speaker 1: watch what you put up, man. Like I've seen people man, woman,
- 11:45Speaker 1: and they're talking about Jesus, but then the next minute
- 11:47Speaker 1: you tell them somebody to pray for you all you're
- 11:49Speaker 1: going through or or just posted something that negates what
- 11:52Speaker 1: you just posted last week, you know. So it's it's
- 11:55Speaker 1: if you have to watch, you know, what you post
- 11:58Speaker 1: and watch what you say because it's you know, we've
- 12:01Speaker 1: seen we were seeing it now where many you know,
- 12:04Speaker 1: they're not being guided, they're going through that just like
- 12:08Speaker 1: it just makes no sense. You know. For me to
- 12:09Speaker 1: be a believer in the creasy, I have to make
- 12:11Speaker 1: sure that I uphold the standard and be an example
- 12:14Speaker 1: to others and stay positive. You cannot use somebody can
- 12:16Speaker 1: have a problem to see me one minute posting something
- 12:18Speaker 1: leading something in church, and the next minute I'm cussing
- 12:20Speaker 1: that somebody or doing something at nineteen, you know, and
- 12:24Speaker 1: that would just give people the benefit of the doubt.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I knew it. I knew he didn't. I knew it.
- 12:28Speaker 1: He's young anyway, you know. But the devil is a lie.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna kill that book, you know. But I'm just
- 12:33Speaker 1: glad that I get to be that example to my
- 12:36Speaker 1: friends that it's cool to love Jesus. And where stortis
- 12:38Speaker 1: you know, well, you know, opportuate you something, you're you're
- 12:41Speaker 1: you're so engaging. But it was something that when I
- 12:44Speaker 1: heard your interview at five thirty any morning driving to work.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It was about your father. Your your father, he held
- 12:51Speaker 1: you to a standard. Okay, your father said you gotta
- 12:54Speaker 1: do this there there are certain rules to do it.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Your father told you don't go back, Let's always go forward. Correct.
- 13:01Speaker 1: That's good, Yes, sir, that's good. Always go forward, Always
- 13:06Speaker 1: go forward. Now, that's be times where I didn't listen,
- 13:09Speaker 1: and because I didn't go forward either, in sideways and
- 13:11Speaker 1: going sideways. I ended up backwards. But at the end
- 13:15Speaker 1: of the day, he made sure that you gotta keep
- 13:17Speaker 1: it moving, regardless of what comes, regardless will hit you,
- 13:20Speaker 1: you gotta keep it moving because in the end, the
- 13:23Speaker 1: end results, the end glory that God has for each
- 13:26Speaker 1: each of us is greater than where we're at, and
- 13:29Speaker 1: it's showing up greater than where we've been. And I'm
- 13:31Speaker 1: great for the guy that we may not think where
- 13:33Speaker 1: we want to be, but I think God, I'm not
- 13:35Speaker 1: who I used to be, So God is so grateful man.
- 13:37Speaker 1: So yeah, you're only man. Moving forward is always the key,
- 13:40Speaker 1: always the key. You're busy, You're busy. Now that's the
- 13:44Speaker 1: best to have this honest conversation. You know, you have
- 13:47Speaker 1: all these you know because you have to walk a
- 13:50Speaker 1: pretty straight line, you know, because of the fact that,
- 13:52Speaker 1: like you just mentioned, you can't have double standards when
- 13:55Speaker 1: you when you speak in the word, and so you know,
- 13:59Speaker 1: you wrap what's out there. You know, they could do
- 14:02Speaker 1: what they want to do and they could still praise
- 14:04Speaker 1: God when they get that award. You know it. You
- 14:09Speaker 1: know I'm saying, they get They're still out there, man,
- 14:11Speaker 1: passed half pants halfway. They booted tattoos on the in
- 14:14Speaker 1: between the eyeballs. You know, they're getting fired up and
- 14:18Speaker 1: all that good stuff on a daily basis, but they
- 14:21Speaker 1: still walk out there prayers the Lord. But you can't
- 14:24Speaker 1: do that. That's that the double standards that annoys you.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Oh man, it's I wouldn't say it annoys me, but
- 14:34Speaker 1: you know, sometimes I get disappointed. But then I realized
- 14:37Speaker 1: that everybody that professed Jesus don't know Jesus. You know.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Every day I'm still getting to know who he is.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Just to see many that are older than me, it
- 14:46Speaker 1: kind of disappoints me because it's like, man, I've looked
- 14:49Speaker 1: up to you or I've I've gotten something from your
- 14:51Speaker 1: ministry to where it impacted my life. But you know,
- 14:54Speaker 1: I can't see how others, you know, do whatever they
- 14:58Speaker 1: want to do, you know, at the end of the day.
- 14:59Speaker 1: But I'm learning that every day I get too known
- 15:01Speaker 1: for myself. Watch this after Sunday Surface. It's not just
- 15:05Speaker 1: a tradition weekly for me. It's an everyday kind of
- 15:08Speaker 1: love that that I get to get to engage with
- 15:12Speaker 1: the one who whom I'm in love with that saved
- 15:14Speaker 1: my life. And I promise you that if it was
- 15:16Speaker 1: not for Jesus, I wouldn't lean across the cafeteria table
- 15:19Speaker 1: just to tell him thank you. That took me across
- 15:22Speaker 1: the world. So I'm grateful for that man. And every
- 15:24Speaker 1: day I make sure man with my foot touch the flow. Man,
- 15:27Speaker 1: I said, thank you. May I have everything I want,
- 15:30Speaker 1: but I got everything I need. So I would to
- 15:31Speaker 1: encourage somebody that's listening, don't look at what your end
- 15:34Speaker 1: to look at what's it going through. You are a winner.
- 15:36Speaker 1: You will overcome, and most importantly, God has his hand
- 15:39Speaker 1: on your life, and as long as he has his
- 15:41Speaker 1: hands on your life, you ought to tell him thank
- 15:43Speaker 1: you for everything that he's walked with you through and
- 15:46Speaker 1: everything he's about to take you to. So Bog, I'm
- 15:48Speaker 1: gonna living with this, mate. That's thank you. Take your
- 15:50Speaker 1: long way. Man. You remind me of two people. These
- 15:55Speaker 1: are good people. You remind me of Kurt Franklin, who
- 15:59Speaker 1: I love to death, and you remind me of Nick Cannon,
- 16:03Speaker 1: who I love to death. You know because Nick at
- 16:08Speaker 1: your age, see Nick got it sixteen, he was on
- 16:12Speaker 1: stage telling joke. You know what I'm saying, and one
- 16:15Speaker 1: of the top entrepreneurs in this country. Okay, same thing
- 16:19Speaker 1: with Kurt Franklin, because see I hear you, man, See
- 16:24Speaker 1: see you wanted gifted people. Man, you know like Stephen A. Smith,
- 16:28Speaker 1: who I love and admire him because he starts talking
- 16:32Speaker 1: and guess what he's talking fifteen is and never take
- 16:35Speaker 1: a breath every and don't stumble and don't stomple what
- 16:39Speaker 1: I would ask of you. And I don't know if
- 16:41Speaker 1: you do this or not, because you've done some things
- 16:43Speaker 1: on this show where you just have just started spitting
- 16:46Speaker 1: out motivation, spitting out encouragement. I would love for you
- 16:51Speaker 1: just just put that old video just on your Instagram,
- 16:54Speaker 1: like sixty second little just motivational moments, because man, your
- 17:00Speaker 1: age group needs to hear from you in that manner too.
