- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, do you know what we're doing right now today right now?
- 0:04[SPEAKER_05]: Well, last time we did a Q&A, which normally would mean we're doing a regular episode, but we're not.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: We're not.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_05]: We're not because, you know, we started Matthew.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: We had too many ease for all the cues.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, we had an hour long episode just answering questions from Matthew chapter one.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_05]: So, but in and not all of the chapters are going to require that much tension, that one specifically because we're jumping into the New Testament.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_05]: Like, there was a lot.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_05]: It was just got show down our fucking throats.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_05]: You know, like it was it was it was quite a bit.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure how this Q&A is going to go either.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I've got a lot of information here.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: We're covering chapters two, three, and four.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_05]: And you already told me there's might be a long one.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be a long one because I have a lot to say.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: And we've already read chapter five, but I'm holding off on the queue for that one until we read chapter six and seven.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: So five, six and seven is the sermon on the mount and it's going to get its own special
- 1:04[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and I do want to mention also if you are listening to this and you are caught up tomorrow is our because this is coming out of Monday tomorrow is our live on discord at 10 p.m. Eastern because we do that every Tuesday at 10 p.m. Eastern.

- 1:27[SPEAKER_05]: You got to act like a group like there's a thing there's there's a dynamic there's a there's stuff that happens There's just a happens like I tell Fern to fuck off and then Fern fucks off right.

- 2:04[SPEAKER_04]: I'll try to see it.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_04]: Sometimes I see it.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: Husband's not always great at that.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not good at it.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have it open.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: I can't do it.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like I don't even try.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: I can't do it.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_05]: All right, so today we're doing a Q&A over which chapters again chapters two three and four of Matthew Okay, you ready to do this.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm nervous, but yeah, let's do it.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Okay
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so we are gonna do a Q&A for Matthew chapters.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: Two, three, and four.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm breaking these down by chapter.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so we're gonna start by covering chapter two.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember what happened in chapter two and don't worry if you don't?
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: Cause I had to relish and door episodes.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_05]: I honestly don't.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_05]: I don't remember exactly, I, no, I don't remember.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, listen, listen.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to be so much better with the New Testament.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: I have listened to all of our New Testament episodes, which I never did in the Old Testament to make sure that I get all of our questions and I have gone through all of the footnotes.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, in the translation that we're reading to make sure that I get verbal things right or to get words that we're missing like I'm trying to to do better with the new test.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_05]: Why is doing good research?
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: I am because because this is the shit that counts like this is this is what people know better.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, where we you you've been concerned about this and and me to some extent, but um,
- 3:42[SPEAKER_05]: This is what people know, right?
- 3:44[SPEAKER_05]: The new testament, all Christians know the new testament.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: Hypothetically, hypothetically, they don't.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: It turns out, but I want to make sure that when I ask a question, I've done my due diligence to try to find the answer.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: And if the answer is, I don't know.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's because there's no research to support it.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I was nervous about the length of this.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: So when I say we're going to do this chapter by chapter, that's what I meant.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_05]: There's one, yeah, there's one verse I'm sure that probably every Christian doesn't, and I don't know what I've thought, man, I only know that they know it, and it's John 316.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't that the one where God gave, he loved us so much that he gave us only.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_05]: I don't fucking know.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: Fucking son so that we could put on that.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_05]: But I see an idea, bumper sticker on the planet.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's that.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's something like that.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure I didn't quote it right.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_05]: No, yeah, yeah.
- 4:38[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: Um, okay.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: So chapter two of Matthew.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: Here's what it's about.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Just as a reminder.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: Wiseman from the East come to honor Jesus.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then we get the flight to Egypt and the return to Nazareth and the slaying of the empathic.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_05]: I forgot we were still now now it makes sense.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_05]: I forgot we were still kind of in the
- 4:59[SPEAKER_05]: the birth story.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, I mean, so much happens in these chapters that going back and listening to chapter two after we've already read chapter five was like, oh, fuck, we've come a long way already.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: This story is moving.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: It does not sit still.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to read verses one and two of chapter two.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: Just
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: so that I can answer some questions that we had, okay?
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: So verses one and two, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea during the time of King Herid, Madurai from the East came to Jerusalem and asked, where's the one who has been born King of the Jews?
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: We saw his star when it was in a condo worship him, and we were like,
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: what the fuck who's a manjai what do you mean and what do you mean he was born like what is happening right now yeah like why who are these guys of where they come in over there right okay so the three wise men there's sometimes called three kings yeah there's sometimes called just three
- 6:06[SPEAKER_05]: Sure.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, we don't know.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_05]: There's three dudes.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: There's three guys.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: And their distinguished foreigners who visit Jesus after his birth and they bring gold, frankincense and more.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: Or as I said in the episode, parsley sage rose Mary and time and lap this last July.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: I did say that in the episode.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: And it was funny to me then.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: And it's still funny to me now.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: But you don't seem to appreciate it.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_05]: I don't.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't understand why is fucking hilarious.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: So these guys, their names, origins, appearances and exact numbers.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: So there might have been more of them than just three.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: They're unmentioned and they appear solely in the gospel of Matthew.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll never see them again.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_05]: So they may have never actually existed in the first place.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Or there may have been more of them.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we said that a lot in the Old Testament.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_05]: So you because you don't actually know the true.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's over.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_05]: That leaves over in the whole world of of possibility.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: It can be a couchbucker.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: So they're only in the gospel of match match match match you.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: Machu Picchu, Matthew, which states that they saw his star in the east and came to worship the one who has been born the king of the Jews.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, we don't know who they are.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know their names, how many we don't even know.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: Everything about them is derived from the inferences or traditions of later Christians.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like they made a lot of the story up.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_05]: I see, so chances are they, this didn't actually happen.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then this is, seriously, okay, um, although there's social status is never stated, some biblical translations describe them as astrologers, um, but they were increasingly identified as kings by at least the third century.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: And that conformed with Christian interpretations of old Testament prophecies that the Messiah would be worshiped by kings.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: So they're like, these are going to love this guy, so they must have been kings.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: And since kings came to visit them, that proves that he was the Messiah who's loved by kings.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_05]: More prophecies.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's circular.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_05]: It's circular magic.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Kings love him so they must be kings and since their kings that love him that proves that he's real because otherwise, why would kings who must be kings because they came to see him, why would kings come see him if he wasn't real?
- 8:39[SPEAKER_05]: Let's trace me as odd that foreign kings would come to work to honor this child, right?
- 8:46[SPEAKER_05]: Because generally they wouldn't be yow way followers and so why the fuck would they be there?
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you're using the word foreign, very, um, very liberally, I would say, because there were Jews spread out amongst all these different cities and countries in this area.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: So what do you mean by foreign, okay, like where Mary and Joseph were they were foreigners?
- 9:17[SPEAKER_05]: At the time, King Herod wasn't even a Jew.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: He was a Roman guy.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_05]: So like we're talking about the king of the Jews isn't even a Jew.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_05]: So what are these kings that aren't Jewish?
- 9:31[SPEAKER_05]: Why are they going to visit this Jewish king?
- 9:33[SPEAKER_05]: That's just weird.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_05]: It's just shocking really weird.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_05]: Because if there are other kings then King Herod, which they have to be, then they're not Jewish.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: So it just strikes me as
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: When we talk about stuff like we'll see, we'll see, but not anywhere else, but Matthew.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: Now, there's also the fact that there's traditional and the tivety scenes that depict these guys come into see Jesus, right?
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: But the major scene has like shepherds and angels and stuff, but that's a different scene that's not in Matthew.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: So that whole like the three wise men and the major scene put together is two different stories.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like somebody took the Matthew and somebody took the Luke I think it is.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it's like.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean that tracks because there are two stories about the same time period.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody just took all the facts and put them together to make one picture.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_05]: That's just really okay.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's not.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: look, you're wanting to find this weird.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's not that weird.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: They're telling the same story, they're bringing different details, and an investigator would look at all the different pieces and put them all together to make one puzzle.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not here to defend the Bible and anyway, what's a lever, but let's not be silly in our tearing and apart.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: those two scenes came together.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: So now we've got the three wise men and we've got the major birth, which we haven't read about yet, because that's going to be in Luke, I think.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 11:21[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: The single biblical account in Matthew chapter two simply presents an event at an unspecified point, unspecified point.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: after Jesus' birth in which an unnumbered party of unnamed wise men visit him in a house, not a staple.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's important because many scholars regard the match I as legendary rather than historical figures.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: But the house thing is important because they had already moved out of the stable by them, right?
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: So we know the stable story, like with the manger and fucking animals and whatnot because like that's hold every Christmas.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: So we like no spoilers, okay?
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: We know in Luke that that is a story that we're gonna hear about, right?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: But these guys visiting Jesus must have happened a little bit later, okay?
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: The text specifies no interval between the birth and the visit.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: and artistic depictions and the closeness of the traditional dates of December 25th and January 6th encouraged the popular assumption that the visit took place the same winter as the birth, but that doesn't make sense because it still be in the fucking manger.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_05]: But in shit, it took the juice like 40 years to go five miles, so.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but I mean to be fair, God punish them.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_05]: No, I know, I know.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, later traditions varied with the visit taken as occurring up to two winters later.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: And that makes a lot of sense because the two year interval will later on explain why Herid commanded that the massacre of the in a sense includes boys up to two years old.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: Because remember the time we're like, why are you killing babies and one year olds and two year olds?
- 13:24[SPEAKER_05]: That makes better that would make better sense.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: That makes much better sense.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: So probably like the babies born will read that story in Luke later on and then two years later these magi, whoever the fuck they are, come to visit them and bring gifts.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: That makes a little bit better sense.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: Now, going back to the two verses, right?
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: So the magic came and asked, where's the king of the Jews, baby?
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: We saw the star and we come to worship them, right?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: So that whole snort star thing where they're like following the star, you know, a star rose, and so they followed it, right?
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: There are some who say that that must have been the same star that was mentioned in Baylom's prophecy way back in fucking numbers chapter 24.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: Let me read it.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'll read versus 15 through 19.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: Then he spoke his message, the prophecy of Bailum, Son of B, or the prophecy of one who's I, sees clearly, the prophecy of one who hears the words of God who has knowledge from the most high capital letters, who sees a vision from the Almighty capital letters, who falls prostrate and whose eyes are open,
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: I see him, but not now.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: I behold him, but not near.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: A star will come out of Jacob, a septer will rise out of Israel.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: He will crush or batter depending on the translation.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: The foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people, or all the noisy boasters
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: Edom will be conquered.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: Seer, his enemy will be conquered, but Israel will grow strong.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: A ruler will come out of Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_05]: That's interesting because I don't think those things happen when Jesus was born.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: No, no.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: But they're like, look, they talked about a star.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so these guys, they totally follow to star.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: Whoever these guys are,
- 15:47[SPEAKER_05]: yeah again those those prophecies were we're we're getting back to like you know the the pence to here like ancient history right yeah and and well I mean if you can tie it to the pence to get gold and be right right but like they're they're talking about mowab and like these are things that
- 16:04[SPEAKER_05]: that that were pertinent to them right then I'm there.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but near history.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that's things that were happening.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: Something that was differentiated that we discussed early on that their profits and prophecies spoke of current day events, not like
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: next year or years later, or centuries later.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_05]: No, and we talked about almost every prophecy when we were going to the Old Testament.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_05]: And almost without fail, you could make them work for what they were seeing in the near future.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_05]: In the moment, yeah.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: So the New Testament tries really hard to like, well, it's like they flipped through the pages and they're like, oh, we can do a star or what do you think?
- 16:45[SPEAKER_05]: They did a control of for your prophecy.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, honestly, okay, so moving on, then we get, um, let's read verses five and six.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: We're still in chapter two.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: In Bethlehem in Judah, they replied, for this is what the prophet has written.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: But you Bethlehem in the land of Judah are by no means least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, for this is what the prophet has written, what prophet, who we, that was our question.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like that one.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: What are you talking about?
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: So the prophet they're talking about is from Micah chapter five.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I will re-versus two per six.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: But you Bethlehem, E. Fritha, though you are small among the clans or rulers of Judah, out of you will come for me, one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old from ancient times.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: Therefore Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor bears a son.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: And the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: And they will live securely for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: And he will be our peace
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: I went ahead and read a little bit more than what is normally taken because this is where it goes wrong because they're talking about the Assyrian right not Jesus Yeah, like I made sure to do that with all of these right because they they cherry picked the part that they like and they leave off the actual part that it's referencing the
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: heart that the prophecy was about, right?
- 18:42[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, not about Jesus.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: He will be our peace when the an a serious invade our land and march through our fortresses.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: We will raise against them seven shepherds, even eight commanders who will rule or crush the land of a Syria with the sword, the land of Nimra with drawn son.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: He will deliver us from the Assyrians when they invade our land and march across our border.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_05]: That's talking about Babylon and all kinds of stuff like that.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_05]: And more than that, like Jesus never ruled the Israelites, they considered him the king of the Jews, I guess, after the fact.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_05]: But he was never a leader.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_05]: In fact, they were ruled by
- 19:24[SPEAKER_05]: not Jews.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_05]: So like none of this works out.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_05]: In fact, it even references not this time frame.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's specifically not that's why with I was like, let me read this actually fucking in context.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Not just like what?
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: the Christians say, oh, they're talking about microteptified this verse.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_05]: No, and that's just it.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_05]: Like if you if you get those study bibles, right?
- 19:48[SPEAKER_05]: Mm-hmm.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_05]: They're going to cut it off before you see a syringe.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_05]: They're not going to share that meal because that's not what they want you to know.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_05]: I know.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_05]: I want you to know specific things about specific events so that they match up with this miraculous baby that happened that, you know, make it fits all the prophecies, the prophecies are about other shit.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_05]: The prophecies learned about Jesus.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this one in particular, I was like, no, that's not that one.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: And we can put an X on that one.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_05]: And look though, like that one is very, that's an important prophecy with regard to the Jesus, because there's a lot of things in there that like the shepherding, the imagery of it, is what they adopted as the imagery of Jesus.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: They told the imagery and copied it like almost verbatim, but they left off the, oh, this was already fulfilled.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: the whole area.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_05]: Jesus is this.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_05]: Just don't read after that.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_05]: Just make that that's that part's gone.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: And like the coffee pasted the email and I'm like, okay, Boomer, get it around.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so moving on, then we get the flight to Egypt and the return to Nazareth.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: So Joseph Mary and Jesus find refuge in Egypt.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: Many Jews had settled in Egypt, not only those who had fled during the time of Jeremiah, but also many others who had settled there on account of the temple, which Onaia's the fourth had built at Heliopolis.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: So those who could speak the Greek tongue enjoyed many advantages in Egypt.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: So there were a lot of Jews that were doing just fine in Egypt.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_05]: It's funny, they escape from there.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_05]: And then they're like, hey, it's actually not that bad.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_05]: Let's go back.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like the way Americans are like, maybe we do want to go back to England.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_05]: You've been given the choice today.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: We say no kings, but what if Charles instead of Trump?
- 21:50[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, right?
- 21:51[SPEAKER_05]: I, I'm just saying.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: Puppet King versus paper king.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Charles in charge?
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: Push to my, so on top of being able to speak Greek and living it, you know, with,
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: just fine like they were fine and they were like yeah okay we could we'll go there we'll flee to there that's great um they also have the Greek version of the Septuagint so they had a copy of the Bible like right in land you know which had been translated nearly 300 years before this time so i mean it was fine to be a jewish there was established he was there already is yeah yeah yeah
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, Egypt was now a Roman province in the rage of Herod could not pursue the family there.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: So it was fine.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: So reading verses 14 and 15 of chapter two, so he, Joseph, Jesus' papa, got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod, and so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet,
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: out of Egypt I called my son.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_05]: I wonder though how many other two-year-old and younger people fled to Egypt during this time?
- 23:08[SPEAKER_05]: You know, like if you had a kid and they were two years for younger her and you're like he's trained to kill all the two-year-olds and you know.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: What if we moved into Canada?
- 23:17[SPEAKER_05]: I mean Egypt.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_05]: I mean Egypt.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: But that so was fulfilled what the Lord had sent through the prophet.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: We were like again, what prophet?
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of this happening.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_05]: I did a lot because they're prophecy stuffy all the way through.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: I did so much fucking copy pasting to my notes here to try to figure out what prophet.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: What are you talking about?
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_00]: This one was from Hosea chapter 11, which I
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he was one of the minor prophets towards the end and I don't even remember like at all.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to read verses one through five.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: When Israel was a child, I loved him and out of Egypt, I called my son.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: But the more they were called, the more they went away from me.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: They sacrificed to the bottles and they burned incense to images.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms, but they did not realize it was I who healed them.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: I let them with cords of humankindness, with ties of love.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: To them, I was like one who lifts a little child to the cheek and I bent down to feed them.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: Will they not return to Egypt and will not a serial rule over them because they refuse to repent?
- 24:35[SPEAKER_05]: Again, that is so not referencing Jesus.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: No, this is referencing fucking Moses.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: Moses, when I, when Israel was a child, I loved him and out of Egypt, I called my son.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: Moses, I called my son Moses out of Egypt.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_05]: We're in the Old Testament, they're referred to the flight from Egypt.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: This is not a prophecy.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: This is a member that at one time don't ever forget Moses.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like they did that all through the fucking Old Testament.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: Don't forget how I pulled you out of Egypt.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: Don't forget Moses.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_05]: It's like they're trying really hard to make this something is not.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's very annoying.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's very fucking annoying because it's extra work on me and I don't appreciate it.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_05]: Well, like that one doesn't even like best that doesn't even come close to hitting home.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: No, nope, nope, nope.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so then we get the massacre of the in a sense almost at idiots
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I guess two older, basically, at the end of the year, by, like, affectionately.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: The massacre of the innocence.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to read versus 17 and 18.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: Then what was said through the profit, Jeremiah was fulfilled.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_00]: A voice is heard in Rama.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: Weeping and great mourning, Rachel, weeping for her children and we're fusing to be comforted because they are no more.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: What the fuck, um, wasn't that a thing that was happening at the time that she was crying at the time?
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to get with probably yes.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it was this time I didn't have to look up witch profit because this one they actually told me the profit.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: Jeremiah.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's nice of them.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: So let's read Jeremiah.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_05]: That must be another more confident than this one.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: You would think Jeremiah chapter 31.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to read verses 15, 16 and 17.
- 26:25[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: This is what the Lord says.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: A voice is heard in Rama, morning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, and refusing to be comforted because they are no more.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: This is what the Lord says.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: For your work will be rewarded to Claire's the Lord.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: They will return from the land of the enemy.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: So there is hope for your descendants to Claire's the Lord.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: But this was about the children being killed, but it's a repeat of no that already happened.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: The children were already killed and that's why Rachel was crying.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_05]: Like, that's what they was about to what they were going over in the moment.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: Because remember how God was always letting babies die?
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: And people were always like, kill all the babies and the animals and the women and the slaves.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I'm not, I don't remember exactly what it's referencing, but yeah, I'm sure one of those times.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_05]: Sure.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so to finish up chapter two, we got the return to Israel, we got fearing of the evil son of Herod Arcolas and then the family settles in Nazareth, okay?
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: Here's just a little bit of actual history for that time period, okay?
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: Herod King Herod, who was king at the beginning
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: This time period, um, he put his eldest son and tipped her to death.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: He gave Galilee and Petraia to his son and to Antipus.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: And Tippus.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: He gave.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: Another city, I can't say track a night is botanella and paned paned this to a son fill up.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: So he gave a bunch of cities to fill up.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: He gave son to antipus.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: He gave some to fill up.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then he left the kingdom of Judea to his eldest remaining son, Arco Layas.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: Who was just as cruel and bloodthirsty as his father.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: And remember, we were like, so why they going back there if it's just fucking an archaliest two or herid two, right?
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like that doesn't make sense, right?
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: And then so that's when they took the like right turn and we're like, hold on.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: Let's chill and Nazareth for a minute.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: Got it.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: Um, just as an example of how terrible Arcalayas was at one of the passovers.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: He caused 3,000 of the people to be put to death in the Temple and city.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why Joseph declined to settle under his jurisdiction.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, hmm, I heard that, um, Herod was dead, which yay.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's why we're returning.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: But, oh, his son is boss never mind.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_05]: But I also, I think by the mere fact of them settling in Nazareth, it fulfills some other prophecy.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: We're not there yet.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted to give some history about why they went to this the other city.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: That they did end up with who the ruler was also a son of Harriet, because member I said and and tipotor right?
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and to pass govern to Galilee, okay?
- 29:48[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: Antipiss was known to have been of a comparatively mild disposition being intent on building cities.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: So he offered lots of promises of immunities and he kept trying to entice people from other provinces to common settle in his cities.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: He just he wasn't interested in like the murder and bloodshed.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: He just wanted to build great cities.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why even though like Joseph is looking he's like I have two cities both ruled by a guy whose father was a murder murder or bad guy.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one of the sons is just like his dad the other one
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: doesn't appear to be like his dad.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: Or school clear question mark.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what they did.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they picked.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: Also, dude was in a state of war with Arcolas.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: So the two brothers were fighting.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: So that worked out really well for Joseph and Mary.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: And they were able to live under Antipus in peace, safety, and comfort in Nazareth.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_04]: Well, that's good.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_00]: So that was chapter two.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: So now we're moving on to chapter three.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is where we get the public ministry of John the Baptist and we were like, what's a John, what's about this.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: And then we also get John baptizing Jesus.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: And we were like, I'm sorry, what?
- 31:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: What is about ties?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: What's about this and what's about ties?
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm going to read versus three and four of Matthew chapter three.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_00]: This is he who is spoken of through the prophet Isaiah.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_00]: So we've got another prophet stuff.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: A voice of one calling in the wilderness, prepare prepare the way for the Lord.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: Make straight paths for him.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: John's clothes were made of camels here, and he had a leather belt around his waist.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: His food was lukus and wild honey.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: I included that last bit for a reason.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: But let's talk about the prophecy thing first.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I was like fine, fine, fine.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: What did the prophet, I say, actually say.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I had to flip back to Isaiah chapter 40.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'll read verses three, four and five.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: A voice of one calling in the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord makes straight in the desert a highway for our God.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: Every valley shall be raised up every mountain and hill made low.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: The rough ground shall become level the rugged places a plain and the glory of the Lord will be revealed and all people will see it together for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's so, like, it's so vague, I'm like, fine, you know what?
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'll give you a fucking chat for a good job.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_05]: You guys got a props.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: You guys, big, prophecy.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe, sort of.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'll let you have your little gold star because you're awfully fucking desperate.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to go with like a half star.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't even really matter because it's so stupid.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you have to try that hard, it's not very good.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: So mostly you just know questions that I'm laughing at.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: They you believe that that that counts.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like what is it?
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so John the Baptist, who was he?
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: So he was a Jewish prophet and preacher who appeared shortly before Jesus began his public ministry.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I'd rather he was only six months older than Jesus.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_05]: Oh wow.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: So also, they're related through Mary, I think, so they're like distant cousins.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_05]: Interesting.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get more to him.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I just want to like a basic like who's the fuck?
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: They're just like, hey, so John the Baptist was wandering around and I'm like, who was he and why do I care?
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: So Matthew gradually reveals more about him.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: So we will learn more.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: But the other gospels will fill in even more details about us.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 33:55[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but anyway, that's all I want to talk about that, dude.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: Now I want to talk about the fucking camel hair and the leather belt, remember I was tripping over the belt.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, what is a belt, though?
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then the locus and the honey that he ate and we were like,
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: He must be eating good, I guess.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what the significance is.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I looked into that stuff a little bit because we were like we did go on at length of Yeah, okay, so John's camera hair clothing.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: We're a sort of course or rough covering So things like monk wearing like a rough blanket.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, okay?
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: All right
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: This was common to the prophets who lived in a very similar state of self-denial.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: So this was his way of like, I'm only wearing a blanket cloak.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's made out of chemo hair.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's not soft at all.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_05]: Sure.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_05]: Wait, and I got a point out here because did they refer to themselves as prophets?
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_05]: Because didn't God say there'd be no more prophets?
- 34:59[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_05]: I can't remember if that was a, I don't know, seems like I recall something like that.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's not one of the questions that I covered and I'm kind of angry that you're asking it in the middle of my great discourse about his fucking code.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_05]: Well, whatever.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_05]: So if we just one question, then it's not the end of the world.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_00]: But here's the thing, whether he haul himself,
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: vocabulary wise, a prophet or not, he was acting as one.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: He was walking around the country, and he's like, I have some shit to say, and I'm going to baptize people.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: And as a teacher of these things, I am going to deprive myself of
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: basic comforts.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: And so that was what he was doing in order to, like, feel closer to God and also to feel like what he was doing was worthy.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's most likely that the dried locus, which are an article of food in Asian countries, even to this present day.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's likely that they were fried in the wild honey that he got in the rocks and hollows of the tree, which abounded in Judea.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_00]: So he was eating okay.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: And for a wild, the locus and the honey were so readily available.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: They referred to it as the mana.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: They were like this is mana from heaven because it's so it's good protein everywhere all over the place.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, that's a thing.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if they like meant to symbolically Like if they were like actually, no, this is actually the manner.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_05]: That's interesting.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: All right, but moving on, let's talk about John's ministry.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I'm going to reverse six confessing their sins.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: They were baptized by him in the Lord and river.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: And we were like, hold on, was a baptized.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: Right, yeah.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, the word baptized comes from a Greek word, meaning to dip, a murs, wash, or submerge.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_00]: And John's big public activity was immersing people in water as a symbol of repentance and readiness for God's kingdom.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now one of our questions was, was baptism already a thing at the time.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: We had talked about kind of in that they had personal cleansing rituals that they had to do before and after any kind of communal religious ceremony kind of thing, gathering like so kind of, but
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: This is different.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's the same idea.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's in the same neighborhood.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: Um, as the spiritual cleansing.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_00]: But it, like, the spiritual cleansing was more of a personal act.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: And this is more of a public act.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: The baptizing is public.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_05]: So John the Baptist is he's invented baptism.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: Because what it seems like, I don't know if there were other people walking around doing it, but he got tagged with it because he was big into it, okay?
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: Jews were already practicing ritual washing for purification, but John's baptism was distinctive because it was public, moral, spiritual, tied to repentance and connected to the coming kingdom of God.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: And that is not something that it had all been tied to before.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: So it just made it like even more important.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like you're already doing this thing, but now we're gonna do it as a group activity and we're gonna talk about not just how you're living it today but the kingdom of God to come.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_05]: So it sounds to me like a lot of the, what are considered Christian practices where maybe already in place and being used by John the Baptist
- 38:53[SPEAKER_05]: in a Jewish setting before Christianity was ever a thing.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_05]: And these traditions just got solidified by the Christian sect of Judaism basically.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: They were activities already practiced in some other fashion, similar fashion by Jews.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: Right, but even so Christianity is just Judaism.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_05]: Right, but even the fact that John the Baptist is doing this during the time of Jesus means that this kind of went along with.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: this whole what it was just one set right there was so many different sects not all of them did this and that's why you have all these different preacher guys we're in their little camo coats and belts going around and saying it just flake in the other times when they're like okay we're bent I have the message no I have the message it was still happening yeah
- 39:45[SPEAKER_00]: With all these different guys, we're all doing the same thing that the Jews had always done, which was promise swear to God, I have the right message.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_00]: Do it my way.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: get in the ocean, get out of the ocean, eat this, don't eat this, fry these, don't eat those, definitely never ever enjoy sex.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're a woman, stop being a woman.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, some things they agreed on, women will always suck forever after.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: They always have been woman haters.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_00]: They always will be woman haters.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_00]: Just women cannot ever get a like up in this religion.
- 40:29[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: There were just a bunch of different people with all different rules.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, in what form, what was I think?
- 40:39[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't just saying, like John wasn't just saying to become ceremonially clean, which is what he had been, up until that point.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: He was out there going, God is about to act, like any day now is coming.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like again, that whole spirit of
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: you know, the Messiah's right around the corner.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like they had that expectation.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: And so he's like, we all need to be real fucking fast, repent, prepare yourself, get in the water right now.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: Let me get you right with God because I've got to stop watch on and it's happening.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_05]: One night I even heard like the second coming of Christ was supposedly
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: soon like even back then yeah like so like this the end is night thing that that we always joke about has been a thing since early Christianity so for 2000 years yeah and has been fucking not yet yeah it's so tiresome yeah so in whatever form baptism was originally administered whether it's like sprinkler dunk or whatever sure super soaker
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's been a topic of serious debate for centuries now.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: We just, we don't know.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: It used to just be bathing privately and personally, you know, each of them knew the certain ways and the certain cause and the certain things that they had to say and versions they had to make.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_00]: But what it became in this group activity, nobody knows.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_05]: It's more of a public declaration.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_05]: Like that's how I end up in doubt today anyway.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's a public declaration of your loyalty to God or your... Not just your loyalty to God, but it's also your loyalty to whichever church you're being baptized in.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like a lot of churches you have to be baptized in order to be a church, an official church member.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_05]: A quote unquote member.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I always like, was confused, like, what do you mean?
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I go to this church, am I not a member?
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: But no, to be a member of a church, you have to actually, like, officially be on their roles.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: And so they have to be the judge of whether or not you are saved.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: And moreover, as a, quote, unquote, official member, you have to like do all the
- 43:02[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, so you won't save 10% on current insurance.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you might, if there's a current insurance agent that goes to that church and cook up with them.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_05]: But you're going to pay the 10% to the church to get this count.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't even know.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: So then we move on to Jones confrontation with the Pharisees and the Sadducees.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I have a little bit to say about that because I was like, who are the CC's?
- 43:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to read verse seven.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_00]: But when he saw how many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them, you've brewed a vipers who warned you to flee from the coming wrath.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: Da, da, da, da, da, da continues on.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so there is these in Sadducees where some others of those sects that I was telling you about, okay, there are these were a very numerous sect among the Jews who in their origin were very probably appear and holy people.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: It is likely that they got the name of Pharisees from the term separatists, because they separated themselves from the pollution of the Jewish national warship and hence the word in the Anglo-Saxon version is holy persons who stand apart.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: or by themselves, okay?
- 44:25[SPEAKER_00]: In the process of time like all religious sex and parties, they degenerated and losing the spirit of their institution, they ceased to recur to first principles and had only the form of godliness.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm okay.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_00]: They became like practices of the religion, instead of the spirit, like they were more about the the rituals.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: So when Jesus was preaching in Judea, they observed the rules of the institution, but they were like empty of spirit.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_05]: Got it.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_05]: So at least according to them.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_00]: A court.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's that's the definition of Pharisees.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if those people were actually like that.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_00]: When the sect of the Pharisees arose cannot be distinctly ascertained.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: So we don't know.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, we're sometimes during that time very intro before and during the time of Jesus.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: It is supposed to have been sometimes after the Babylonian exile,
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm after the Babylonian exile.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: When the Jews were all scattered, smothered covered, you know?
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so that's the Pharisees.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: The Sadducees were a sect who denied the existence of angels and spirits.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_05]: Interesting.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 45:53[SPEAKER_00]: And we were late completies so much about all of the angels in these fucking chapters.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_00]: So if we were believers and got it all, we would be sadducees.
- 46:04[UNKNOWN]: Right.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: Consequently, all divine influence and inspiration was also off the table for them because it all came via angels and spirits interesting and also the resurrection of the dead they were like no not a thing that's magic and no that's not it so they were probably as close as you kept like the clock maker type kind of view point of the world
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: They were at that time, they were the materialist and deists of the Jewish nation.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, there would be probably your clockmakers.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you have, there's God, but he's not, he's not doing magic.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's not floating.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: He's no a Zeekeel, you guys come on.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: We do not have eyes on wheels.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: They were like stop, stop playing, stop clowning on me.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: Get real.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: Go, go put your shoes on, wash your hands, we're about to go out to dinner.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have time for your nonsense.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they were like.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: I can get down like that one, as you know, I probably would have liked the sad justices.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_00]: Is my guess.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: The sect of the Sadducees were followers of Sadoc, a disciple of Antignaus Sochias, who flourished about three centuries before Christ.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: Hmm, okay.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: So these guys were like, comfortable.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think in what they believed.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_05]: I think they were like, they already kind of established themselves sounds like something they were just comfortable.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_00]: They were like, yes, God is real.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, past the salt.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, they didn't have time for that.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: They were just going about their business.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: There was a third sect among the Jews called the Sines or Ascenians.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll hear about them later.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_00]: OK.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I did not take down their information.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_00]: But I was just excited.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: Finally, I understand what the Pharisees and the Sadducees are.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: Got it.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: There are sex of Judaism.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 48:00[UNKNOWN]: OK.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, John continues his speech to those guys.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, in verse 11 he says, I baptize you with water for repentance.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: But after me, comes one who is more powerful than I, who sandals, I am not worthy to carry.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_00]: He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: And we were like, you're not worthy to carry a shoes, huh?
- 48:30[SPEAKER_00]: this realization.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_00]: This saying is expressive of one of the most profound sayings from from the history of these guys.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_00]: It was one of humility and great reverence.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: To put on take off and carry the shoes of their masters was the work of the vialist slaves.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's why the footwashing thing was such a big fucking deal ritual.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: And this was not only among the Jews, it was also among the Greeks and Romans.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_00]: The feet were a big fucking deal.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_04]: Got it.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: So when he says, who sendals?
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not worth.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even good enough to carry the son of God or whoever's coming the Messiah.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even good enough to carry his shoes.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and to us it's like ooh big words you can carry shoes, but we always forget like no their feet were like very they they mattered Yeah, like they they had special things and their toes were one of them right
- 49:43[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but it, it also like reminds me that like they did do that whole foot washing thing that was like a super big deal.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: And that they, they talked about feet things sometimes and we didn't always get it.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_05]: The, if I'm recalling correctly, wasn't that often associated as like a reference to their balls.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_00]: No, that was the grabbing of the thighs.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_05]: Grabbed thighs.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_00]: That was when they said they put his hand on his thigh.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: He swore an oath on the dude's thigh.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_00]: That was always the grabbing the balls.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: Thighs are actually testicles.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: Got it.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: You're giving me that weird look, but I promise you that's what it was.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: Thighs are balls.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: So then we get John's ministry in baptizing Jesus.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, no, you baptize me.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_00]: You baptize me.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_00]: Is that all about right?
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: But that happens.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, right?
- 50:37[SPEAKER_00]: So that was chapter three.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, now we're moving on to chapter four.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: Are you ready for this?
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm ready.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so in this chapter we get Jesus gets tempted by Satan in the wilderness.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember that?
- 50:50[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, and it was really this poor.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he was like jump off the mountain and do it
- 50:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then we also get the first ministry of Jesus, and he like gathers his gang.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, he just goes down.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, yeah, yeah.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_05]: the rubber down in Jesus.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_00]: rubber down in Jesus.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_05]: Just that way, I real quick, sometimes feet did symbolize those thoughts.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_05]: But thigh was also part of that.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, the thigh was always balls, but the feet were only sometimes.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right, all right.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I was mostly right.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_05]: Sure, I just, I thought I would call this talking about that one point, so I would say, bother me.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_00]: OK, got it.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: Good catch.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: So let's go to Jesus being tempted by Satan in the wilderness.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: Chapter 4.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to read verses 3 and 4.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_00]: The tempted came to him and said, if you were the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus answered, it is written.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_00]: Here's what that is quoting, because I was like, it is written, is it?
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_00]: Just because you fucking say so, Jesus, okay.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: My Jesus is a grown-up now.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_00]: We really had a problem with that too.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, oh, okay.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_00]: All of his ready-in-kin stuff, like, oh, okay.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_05]: Look at this big shot.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_00]: Whooms to the fuck do you think you is, Big J?
- 52:22[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so let's go all the way back to Deuteronomy.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you want to meet.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's one of the pen to two goals.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: Chapter eight versus two and three is what I'll read.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these 40 years to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: He humbled you, causing you to hunger, and then beating you with mana, which neither you, nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_00]: They were like, oh my God, that sounds so poetic.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_00]: Let's copy that.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: Prophecy, no.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_00]: Copy, yes.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 53:10[UNKNOWN]: So,
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it is written.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, you sure are right.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: You sure did read that it is written, but that's not a prophecy.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_00]: Just to be clear.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_05]: Right, right.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that's a copy paste.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's a shout out.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_05]: He's just given an answer to the devil.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_00]: He's, he's like, remember that time and due to Rotomy?
- 53:28[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, I did read that page.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 53:31[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_00]: So then we get the second temptation.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to read verses six and seven.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_00]: And if you are the son of God, he, the tempter said, Yeah, throw yourself down for it is written.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you did a quote now.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to do a quote.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_00]: It says the dump door.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_00]: He will command his angels concerning you and they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against the stone.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_00]: But then Jesus answered him.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_00]: Excuse you, bitch.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_00]: It is also written.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_00]: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_00]: Boom.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_00]: So in some chapter 91 versus we're digging into songs.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_00]: I know I was like really okay versus 9 through 13 is what I'm about to read here.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: If you say the Lord is my refuge and you make the most high your dwelling, no harm will overtake you.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_00]: No disaster will come near your tent.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_00]: For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_00]: They will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: You will tread on the lion and the cobra.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: You will
- 54:51[SPEAKER_05]: Right, so, you know, okay.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_00]: That was a first of all.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_00]: A pay shout out.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_00]: Not a prophecy.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_05]: And, and, and, but this is a lot.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_05]: No, the devil, the devil's just not trying that heart.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_05]: You know, like.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he didn't have to back then.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know, to try a lot harder now.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: Just kidding.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, even less because we've got all these fucking AI bots and Russian bots and right.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_00]: Fucking troll last motherfuckers.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, I'm gonna quote now from Deuteronomy chapter 6, verses 13 through 16, for the Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_00]: Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_00]: For the Lord your God who is among you is a jealous God, and his anger will burn against you and he will destroy you from the face of the land.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_00]: do not put the Lord your God to the test as you did at Massal.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, so I've got some of the say about that because that's all well and good except that Moses challenges him.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_05]: and joe challenges him and like there's various other people throughout the Bible who challenge him in like every time that it happened because we remember things like this being said right we're like oh shit are they gonna be okay and then they were and then they were yeah generally so sometimes it is okay to challenge except when God decides it's not okay right right I mean
- 56:25[SPEAKER_05]: God didn't let Moses into the Promised Land because of him challenging God, sort of, or something, no, that was cause he struck the rock.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_05]: Who cares?
- 56:33[SPEAKER_05]: Who cares?
- 56:34[SPEAKER_05]: It doesn't really matter.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_05]: But generally speaking, people were able to challenge God and it was okay.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_05]: as long as God was like you just have to guess I guess on any given days is God okay.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_05]: It's got into my challenge God's day maybe.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: What's going on?
- 56:47[SPEAKER_00]: What's going on?
- 56:48[SPEAKER_00]: What's fun, check, bad, check.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, Abraham didn't challenge God.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_05]: He was really ready to step his son.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_05]: But you know, but other people did.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's correct.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_00]: So moving on, we get the third temptation.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to read verse eight again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_00]: And we didn't talk about this, but I was like, he took him to a mountain, huh?
- 57:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like that's interesting.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_00]: So if we take he took him to this very high mountain and showed him the whole world, remember I like me this reference to like Symba showing yeah everything you see between here and and the horizon is yours.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the Lion King.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_00]: So if we take the world to mean only the land of Judea.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_00]: Which which is what they're referring to obviously obviously and some of the surrounding nations I'll give you that because now their world has expanded a little sure.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_00]: Then the mountain in question might be the one described by Abbey Giovanni Marie T and 18th century writer who's travel accounts were often quoted by biblical commentators trying to identify locations mentioned in scripture
- 58:08[SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of the mountain in his study, travels through Cyprus, he says, here we enjoy the most beautiful prospect imaginable.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_00]: This part of the mountain overlooks the mountains of Arabia, the country of Gilead, the country of the Emirates, the Plains of Moab, the Plains of Jericho, the River Jordan, and the whole extent of the Dead Sea.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_00]: The mountain he describes is usually understood to be Mount Mebo, which famously overlooks exactly the region's listed.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_00]: Gilead Moab Jericho, the Jordan Valley on the Dead Sea.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_05]: Gotcha.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably mebo.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe that's the mountain.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would guess that is the mountain.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, we're assuming that the devil talked to Jesus on a mountain.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_00]: No, that's true.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I get to the mountain.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_05]: Right, yeah.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_00]: But that would be the mountain being referenced because it's really fucking tall.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_00]: They were like, let's stick that in here.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_05]: And unless it's just a literary agent that they're using to like, further the story, which is more likely the case.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_05]: They're like, hey, there's mountains.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_05]: Let's just, you know, they're on a mountain.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_00]: And they call it the tallest mountain.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_00]: You can see the tallest mountain.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know that tallest mountain where you can see the whole world.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Mount Nebo.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's let's put that in there.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, what did he call it shit?
- 59:26[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: The tall mountain, you know, the one.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_05]: That's the one.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm going to read verses nine and ten.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: All this, I give you, he said, if you will bow down and worship me.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus said to him, a way for me Satan, for it is written, worship the Lord your God and serve him only.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_05]: And so, I mean, it wouldn't be much of a story if you gave him the devil, you know.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_05]: I just said like he had to not get tempted.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_05]: I didn't.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_00]: I liked it to finish my notes on that point, but I think because it was the same reference.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like it is written by the thing.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_05]: Right, but I mean like I said, it's not, it's just, there's not much to be expected.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_05]: Like what does anybody expect to happen here?
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_05]: It's a story about Jesus not in the devil.
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_05]: And he didn't give him the devil.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_05]: Three times.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_00]: I know, it's such a surprise.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_05]: It's great.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_00]: So then the devil leaves and the angels come to Jesus.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_05]: I just find it odd that there was still easy to get rid of the devil.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_05]: All right, well, you didn't go for it three times.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_05]: I'm not.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_00]: See you.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's out, man.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost like the devil was a tool.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so moving on, then we get Jesus doing his gang gathering, okay?
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_00]: And we're almost done here.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_00]: I saw your face.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, are we done yet?
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're almost done.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_00]: So fulfilling prophecy, Jesus brings light to the region of Galilee.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay?
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to read verses 13 through 16.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_00]: Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Kepernam, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulon and Neftali, to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_02]: Of course.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we're going to get into.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_00]: Land of Zebulon and land of Neftali, the way of the sea beyond the Jordan, Galilei of the Gentiles.
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_00]: The people living in darkness have seen a great light.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_00]: on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so why he's talking about there is supposedly from Isaiah chapter 9.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_00]: I will read verses 1 and 2.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, nevertheless there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_00]: In the past he humbled the land of Zebulon and the land of Neftali, but in the
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_00]: future, so this is a prophecy.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_00]: He will honor Galilei of the nations by the way of this CB on the Jordan.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_00]: The people walking in darkness have seen a great light on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_05]: Do you wonder maybe like if all these prophets back then, the ones that were like trying to get
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_05]: You know, all these things, they want to be the prophet, right, because there's multiple Jesus possibilities, sort of, depending on them, who are you studying, and how you go out.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, I feel like they had punch cards.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_05]: And they were going around like, I mean, yet my prophecy, a bunch of cards done here.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_05]: Can you, can you, can you punch your for me?
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_05]: Great.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_00]: I gotta tell you what, if I was gonna try to be a profit, I would be so well studied.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I would be walking around with a copy of that shit in my pocket.
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I would be like, I tripped over a rock.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then I would be like, like, boom, look bitches!
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like everything I did, I would make it be a prophecy.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_00]: Being cool.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_05]: Like I got a lot of money.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_00]: I got a lot of money.
- 1:03:12[UNKNOWN]: I know what.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_00]: So, Galileo of the Gentiles, that was one of the things they said.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_00]: What is that?
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_00]: Or of the nations?
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_00]: What is that?
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_00]: It was called up because it was inhabited by Egyptians, Arabians, and Phoenicians.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_00]: So it was like a...
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_00]: United Nations kind of area.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: Um, the Hebrew word, Goyam and the Greek translation of the same word, signify nations and in the olden New Testament mean those people who were not descendants of any of the 12 tribes.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:03:52[SPEAKER_00]: Not Jew.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're not Jew, you're a Gentile.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_05]: Got it.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_00]: Got it.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_00]: You're a goal.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_05]: That makes sense.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:04:01[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 1:04:01[SPEAKER_00]: The word gentiles comes from Jen or Jen's, which is a nation.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_00]: So from there we got like a description of a message of Jesus.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus calls his four dudes, his fisher dudes, and they just pick up and follow him.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_00]: There's this tradition referred to as the 10 precepts of Joshua.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_00]: These are not from the Bible, but they come from later Jewish rabbinic tradition and they're found in the Talmud.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_00]: Why included it?
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_00]: Because I thought 10 precepts of Joshua.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's very interesting.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_00]: One of the traditions claims that Joshua established certain common rights
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_00]: Come and use rights in the land after Israel settled it and one of the precepts was that all men should have an equal right to spread their nets and fish in the sea of Tiberias, which was also called the Sea of Galilee.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_00]: So when Jesus came marching down the beach and he's like, yo, fish or dudes.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_00]: come, you know, with me and they were like, hey, what that whole thing was about was it was a way of saying, these guys, they're practicing something that is upright.
- 1:05:21[SPEAKER_00]: They're not just lay about, they're doing something that was considered a very noble business.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_00]: They were decent dudes.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_00]: And then they followed Jesus and went on their way.
- 1:05:35[SPEAKER_05]: Something set in its way early on within the laws of Judaism,
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_05]: not whatever it is real.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that was kind of interesting.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so closing in on the end here, we get a description of Jesus' ministry to a multitude in Galilee.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm gonna read verse 23.
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even get into the fucking demon.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it should just like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_00]: but I did notice something about the synagogues and I was like okay tell me about that like suddenly he says the teacher teaching in synagogues all over the nation right synagogues among the Jews were not probably older than the return from the Babylonian captivity okay so they were somewhat new as sure it was still on like relatively decent
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_00]: They were erected not only in cities and towns, but in the country, and especially by rivers, so that they would be near water for the convenience of their frequent washings.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, even those who weren't doing the baptized things, we're still doing the personal cleansing.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_05]: if you had something on clean, you got to clean it.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:07:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:07:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like several times a day.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_00]: So they had to be near water.
- 1:07:07[SPEAKER_00]: So there were lots of synagogues.
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_00]: A synagogue must be composed of not less than 10 persons of respectability.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:07:16[SPEAKER_00]: And this, where this number could not be found, no synagogue was built, but there might be many synagogues in one city or town.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_00]: So like, kind of like where we lived in a small town in the Dayton area, we had like a thousand churches, like you can throw a rock and hit a church.
- 1:07:36[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the way the synagogues work.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_00]: Um, as long as it was like super populous, there were going to be, um, a bunch of synagogues.
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_00]: Jerusalem is said to have contained 480 synagogues.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_00]: Holy.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_00]: Because every single person was required to go.
- 1:07:53[SPEAKER_00]: They were like community centers.
- 1:07:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:07:55[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_00]: The synagogues was governed by a council or assembly over whom was a president.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_00]: They were usually called like, uh, the father or the elder or the leader or whatever.
- 1:08:07[SPEAKER_05]: But if you've got that many in a city, back in those days, like that sounds like a very intimate setting.
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_05]: But you've got small groups all over the place that are doing these things.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we're just kind of, it's kind of cool.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_00]: It is kind of, I mean, actually, you know, it shows that like the stability of the that nation, that city, that area, it had to be stable for there to be that many synagogues for that many people to be doing, going about their daily business, that's really cool.
- 1:08:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_00]: Um, reading verse 25, large crowds from Galilee, the decoupleus Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.
- 1:08:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I do remember we were asking what the fuck is the decoupleus, you know, the decoupleus.
- 1:08:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:08:58[SPEAKER_00]: The decopolis was a small country situated between Syria and Galilee, and it was called the decopolis because it contained only 10 cities, deca 10, including the Metropolis Damascus, which was the most ancient one.
- 1:09:17[SPEAKER_05]: So which is now I think I'm serious.
- 1:09:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I believe.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, I think you're right.
- 1:09:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we even did a little deep dive into Damascus at one point.
- 1:09:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I feel like we did and like it moved a little bit, but it's still kind of like it's one of the oldest cities in the world.
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:09:38[SPEAKER_00]: So that was chapter four.
- 1:09:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:09:42[SPEAKER_00]: And now we have killed and ate chapters one through four.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Matthew and my throat is sore.
- 1:09:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but I still don't feel like I know Jesus.
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_00]: How do you feel?
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_05]: I feel like there's just, it's so apparent.
- 1:10:07[SPEAKER_05]: that like it's so triart right like they're they're trying so hard to make this Jesus guy the guy I really wanted to be convinced but this is just like
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's set off all of my cynicism, you know?
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_05]: Well, and we kept looking for that moment in the Old Testament when we were reading through the Old Testament of like, okay, okay, they really are looking for this in the future.
- 1:10:35[SPEAKER_05]: But they was always offset with some sort of a indicator that they were actually talking about their present circumstances.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_05]: And it's, it's, it's
- 1:10:44[SPEAKER_00]: or a mystical magical someday things will be good.
- 1:10:48[SPEAKER_05]: Right, and the New Testament is not really clearing that up.
- 1:10:51[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_05]: So it's not making what we discovered in the Old Testament any better.
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_05]: It's just that people chop the sentences in the quotes where they want them to make them sound better.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_05]: And that's really bothersome to me because you can't like the leaders of Christianity can't even allow for context because it fucks up their whole fucking message.
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I have to say as reading through the New Testament is really fucking annoying because every single chapter has at least one so it is written that I got to go look up okay why are you fucking saying was written now and I feel like that's such cheaty you know
- 1:11:44[SPEAKER_05]: more over if you think about it like they're they're praying on a populist that can't really read right like so you've got a bunch of people that are informed that whatever they say goes because the rest of the population can't read right so until you get to the printing press and the internet and places where people can access
- 1:12:04[SPEAKER_05]: tons of information.
- 1:12:05[SPEAKER_05]: No one was able to find these things out.
- 1:12:08[SPEAKER_05]: So is it any surprise that we, you know, that atheism and secularism is growing now, as opposed to more back then, because now we have the ability to say, no, that doesn't quite track.
- 1:12:21[SPEAKER_05]: Absolutely, I can read it.
- 1:12:22[SPEAKER_05]: What?
- 1:12:23[SPEAKER_00]: What exactly do you mean by that, you know, like, A, I can read it, B, France, right?
- 1:12:30[SPEAKER_05]: And to be fifth, you know, since people, the atheism has been a thing for a long, long time, but it's growing.
- 1:12:37[SPEAKER_05]: It is growing.
- 1:12:38[SPEAKER_05]: Secularism for sure is growing.
- 1:12:40[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:12:40[SPEAKER_05]: And, and I think a lot of that is due to the ability for just the amount of information that's out there,
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_05]: You can't look at this stuff in context and say, ah, that's Jesus.
- 1:12:52[SPEAKER_05]: Cause it's just, it's just fucking not.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:54[SPEAKER_05]: You know, like it's just not.
- 1:12:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it strikes me as really, really weird when, um,
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_00]: You get those little teeny tiny, just the new testament.
- 1:13:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:13:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's so weird, because I'm like, but every chapter in that book says, but go read the old one, right?
- 1:13:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, but I can't.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_05]: But apparently it's contradictory, but even Jesus said that we are gonna still adhere to the old rules.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_05]: So, I mean, there's so much that
- 1:13:27[SPEAKER_05]: that people have told us, well, that's actually gonna change.
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_05]: Like, wait, what do you mean it's gonna change?
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_05]: People tell, people say this is the word of God all the time, and then when we point out stuff in the Old Testament, they're like, well, that's just the Old Testament.
- 1:13:40[SPEAKER_05]: So the New Testament actually, but then we're in the New Testament, now we find out things are gonna, things are contradictory in there as well.
- 1:13:46[SPEAKER_05]: And it's like, wait, what?
- 1:13:49[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_05]: I'm sorry, where's the word of God exactly?
- 1:13:52[SPEAKER_05]: Where's the word of God exactly?
- 1:13:53[SPEAKER_05]: Where's the magic?
- 1:13:54[SPEAKER_05]: Where's the proof that this is, this is Godly in some way.
- 1:13:59[SPEAKER_05]: Does it, it doesn't make sense to me.
- 1:14:01[SPEAKER_00]: This is not sparking my spirituality.
- 1:14:04[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I have a somewhat spiritual bone in my body.
- 1:14:08[SPEAKER_00]: I do, a lot more than you do.
- 1:14:09[SPEAKER_00]: You're very like hard-blind, absolutely no.
- 1:14:15[SPEAKER_00]: I have a little bit of a spiritual bone in my body that can be moved.
- 1:14:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I keep looking for that, and this is not there.
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_05]: I can't help myself.
- 1:14:25[SPEAKER_05]: I am always a skeptic, that is like,
- 1:14:29[SPEAKER_05]: I have to question everything, like I don't, there's nothing that happens in the noise you.
- 1:14:34[SPEAKER_00]: No, it doesn't annoy me.
- 1:14:37[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate it.
- 1:14:39[SPEAKER_00]: I also like proof and I like asking questions and I like learning.
- 1:14:46[SPEAKER_00]: I also like being moved and being touched by an emotional moment.
- 1:14:54[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I love reading.
- 1:14:57[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm trying to find that emotional connection in this book that I was assured, I would find.
- 1:15:06[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not there.
- 1:15:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's such bullshit.
- 1:15:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, we're talking about, I can read Charlotte's web and cry at the end every single time.
- 1:15:17[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know?
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_00]: I can read, to kill a mockingbird and cry every time.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_00]: I am not a cold, unmovable person.
- 1:15:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm very emotional.
- 1:15:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's not hard.
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_00]: Remember when we went to the cheesecake factory that one time, me and kid, and I had the most delicious chocolate cheesecake I'd ever tasted.
- 1:15:48[SPEAKER_00]: know you were and I was crying.
- 1:15:50[SPEAKER_00]: I was like this is so good and you guys were like what is wrong and I was like it's so I mean
- 1:15:58[SPEAKER_05]: It wasn't had the cheesecake factory or someplace I was serving.
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know you're right.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_00]: You're right.
- 1:16:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember what restaurant was, but it was a cheesecake factory.
- 1:16:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, dessert served at this restaurant, but I mean, I'm moved by things very easily.
- 1:16:16[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't take much to impress me and to put me to tears, right, to touch me and, you know, to just,
- 1:16:25[SPEAKER_00]: that that human spark that's spark of of I don't know what I'm trying to say.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_05]: But it's looking at and I'm going to be fair here because I think that oftentimes people get that spark and that that spiritualness of the Bible from being in church where it's read in context of other messages.
- 1:16:46[SPEAKER_05]: right like they share the message and and make it analogous to whatever the message is that they're trying to convey that day and so they tie these things in to different messages that are emotional that are feeling like they're they're more feeling they're experienced at the time they read it.
- 1:17:04[SPEAKER_00]: is what they're feeling, not the words that move them themselves.
- 1:17:09[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:17:09[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, we were talking about this with somebody recently in our discord group, and the example that I gave was the Marvel movies, the MCU movies.
- 1:17:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I have a really hard time talking about them.
- 1:17:29[SPEAKER_00]: in an unbiased way because I recognize they're not that good.
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like I know they're not that good.
- 1:17:35[SPEAKER_00]: But I love them so because I watched them from the time kid was tiny and you and kid and I decided we were going to work our way through the MCU movies.
- 1:17:52[SPEAKER_00]: days.
- 1:17:53[SPEAKER_00]: We made a chart.
- 1:17:54[SPEAKER_00]: We watched them in order and we made it a mission to watch them all and we went through them and it was so fun as a family project that my my instant emotional gut first reaction when you bring up hey so are the MCU movies any good is fuck yeah they're awesome and then I have to tone it back because I have to remember no my experience with them was
- 1:18:20[SPEAKER_00]: the movies themselves didn't take good.
- 1:18:23[SPEAKER_05]: Right now I think that if anybody is out there that's deconstructing, they have to ask them so how much of what they believe is based on information that they have and how much is based on the emotion that was tied to it in the setting that they were at.
- 1:18:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, wait, do you enjoy being around other Christians?
- 1:18:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure you do when things are nice and good and everybody is praising together.
- 1:18:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure that's a wonderful feeling.
- 1:18:53[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Do you enjoy having a set schedule where you go to church every Sunday and you know what the expectations are?
- 1:19:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure that there is some joy to be derived from that.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_00]: like I could tell you all kinds of reasons why all of this might feel good.
- 1:19:11[SPEAKER_00]: But is the Bible itself good?
- 1:19:15[SPEAKER_00]: Is the Christian God good?
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_05]: Is it correct?
- 1:19:21[SPEAKER_00]: Is it correct?
- 1:19:22[SPEAKER_00]: And are your feelings of
- 1:19:26[SPEAKER_00]: spirituality and being touched and being moved.
- 1:19:30[SPEAKER_00]: Are they really divine or are they part of the human experience?
- 1:19:34[SPEAKER_05]: And I think more importantly especially if you find yourself in what we would consider you and I to be a right wing kind of Christian nationalist, cultish religion is are your belief based on your understanding of the Bible or someone else's understanding of what that Bible
- 1:19:53[SPEAKER_00]: that is so important.
- 1:19:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, if you're listening to us read through it, you know, congratulations because you're actually reading it for the first time, like we are.
- 1:20:05[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 1:20:05[SPEAKER_00]: And that you get a pet on the back for that.
- 1:20:09[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:20:09[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:20:09[SPEAKER_05]: And we've had, you know, pastors tell us that they listened to it.
- 1:20:12[SPEAKER_05]: So I find that very interesting.
- 1:20:14[SPEAKER_05]: I do too.
- 1:20:15[SPEAKER_05]: I kind of love it.
- 1:20:17[SPEAKER_05]: but yeah there's there's a lot of questions not a lot of them get answered by me divided but we we through I am enjoying this process though so.
- 1:20:27[SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, anyway, that was our Q&A for chapters two through four.
- 1:20:32[SPEAKER_05]: Sure, Sparkwise.
- 1:20:33[SPEAKER_05]: Matthew.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_05]: Sure, Sparkwise.
- 1:20:35[SPEAKER_05]: And as we said earlier, tomorrow, Tuesday night at 10pm Eastern is our live discord.
- 1:20:42[SPEAKER_05]: Link is in the show notes.
- 1:20:43[SPEAKER_05]: As always, you should click on it now.
- 1:20:45[SPEAKER_05]: Go join us and join us for that 10pm Eastern Live Discord.
- 1:20:50[SPEAKER_00]: and we will be reading Matthew chapter six.
- 1:20:53[SPEAKER_05]: That's right.
- 1:20:54[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 1:20:55[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you all.
- 1:20:56[SPEAKER_05]: We'll see you next time.
- 1:20:58[SPEAKER_00]: Bye.
