- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfle Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Docs, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Welcome to Connecting the Dots, the show
- 0:17that extracts the knowledge you need to stay
- 0:19ahead. I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan. We are thrilled
- 0:21you're joining us this Wednesday, November 12,
- 0:242025. Yeah, great to have you with us for another
- 0:26run through the tech stories that really matter.
- 0:28Absolutely. Now, weather -wise, Alex, it's pretty
- 0:30intense out east. Oh, definitely. If you're anywhere
- 0:33in the eastern two -thirds of the U .S. right
- 0:35now, bundle up. We feel for you. That frigid,
- 0:38cold air mass is just sitting there. Mm -hmm
- 0:40record lows expected down into the southeast
- 0:43even, Florida Yeah, and still getting that lake
- 0:46effect snow, you know around the Great Lakes
- 0:48and into New England winter has arrived No doubt
- 0:51it has but thankfully the markets are showing
- 0:53a bit more warmth looking back at yesterday's
- 0:56close Tuesday, November 11th Pretty solid day.
- 0:59Yeah, it was. The Dow Jones climbed 543 .45 points.
- 1:04That's up 1 .15%, closing near 47 ,927. Nice
- 1:09gain. And the S &P 500, it added 30 .97 points,
- 1:13closing up at 6 ,846. Also positive. Right. And
- 1:17Bitcoin. Still pushing. Still pushing hard this
- 1:19morning, actually. Up 1 .69%, that's over $1
- 1:23,700, closing comfortably over $104 ,758. So
- 1:28yeah, the optimism seems to be holding. Good
- 1:30to see. Fantastic. Now, before we jump into the
- 1:33stories from our Morningstar report, we want
- 1:35to give a shout out to our sponsor, Old Glory.

- 2:01Check them out. Perfect gear for maybe contemplating
- 2:04your next AI masterpiece. Huh, could be. Which
- 2:07actually tees up our first story nicely. Yeah,
- 2:09let's frame today's conversation around this
- 2:11friction point, really, where human creativity
- 2:14and, well, massive machine scale collide. We're
- 2:18looking at how AI and tech are shifting the barriers,
- 2:21image editing, console wars, and even the music
- 2:24you listen to. Okay, so let's start with Google.
- 2:26They're rolling out some major upgrades to Google
- 2:29Photos. Yeah, this is pretty significant. They're
- 2:31integrating their powerful nano banana image
- 2:35editing model right into the app. Nano banana,
- 2:39okay. So what does that mean for, you know, regular
- 2:41users? Well, it means that help me edit feature.
- 2:44It's getting way smarter. You can now do really
- 2:47complex edits just by talking to it or typing,
- 2:49conversational prompts. So like instead of fiddling
- 2:52with sliders and tools? Exactly. You don't need
- 2:54the technical skill anymore. You basically treat
- 2:57the AI like a Photoshop expert sitting right
- 3:00there. Huh. So you could say? You could ask it,
- 3:04paint me as a Renaissance portrait or restyle
- 3:08my image as a mosaic made by colorful tiles.
- 3:10Things like that. Wow. So it's actually generating
- 3:13parts of the image, not just applying a filter.
- 3:15Precisely. It's generative AI. It reconstructs
- 3:18the image based on your prompt, using context
- 3:20and style. It really lowers the bar from technical
- 3:23skill to just communication, imagination. OK.
- 3:26But there's a catch, right? I saw something about
- 3:28platforms. Ah, yes. Important detail. Right now,
- 3:33the full power of NanoBanana, these really complex,
- 3:37stylized, generative edits that's only rolling
- 3:39out for Android users. Only Android. What about
- 3:41iOS? Well, iOS users in the US, they get the
- 3:45basic help me edit with text and voice input,
- 3:48but it's limited. It uses the native editor's
- 3:51tools, not the full generative power of NanoBanana.
- 3:55Why the split, you think? Is it a hardware thing?
- 3:58It seems like it. The sources suggest this advanced
- 4:00model needs specific, powerful Google processing,
- 4:04maybe on -device chips or specific server setups
- 4:07that are just optimized for Android right now.
- 4:09So Google's kind of leveraging its own ecosystem
- 4:11there. Definitely looks like it. It gives Android
- 4:13a pretty significant edge in mobile photo editing,
- 4:15at least for these advanced features. Interesting.
- 4:17So if you're making a lot of content on your
- 4:19phone... This could actually sway you towards
- 4:22Android. It really could. And this tech isn't
- 4:24staying just in photos. It's coming to Google
- 4:26search via Lens and AI mode and also Notebook
- 4:29LM. So conversational image creation is becoming
- 4:31like a standard utility. That's the direction,
- 4:34yeah. Okay, let's pivot now. From software creating
- 4:38things to the hardware we use to experience digital
- 4:41worlds, gaming consoles. Right. And there's some
- 4:44huge news from Sony about the PlayStation 5.
- 4:47Massive milestone. Sony just announced the PS5
- 4:50has sold a grand total of 84 .2 million units
- 4:53since it launched back in November 2020. 84 .2
- 4:57million, and that includes 3 .9 million just
- 5:00in the last quarter. Okay, but here's the kicker.
- 5:02Get this. With 84 .2 million units sold, the
- 5:06PS5 has now officially outsold every single Xbox
- 5:09console generation Microsoft has ever made. Every
- 5:12single one. Original Xbox 360, 1 Series XS. All
- 5:16of them. All of them. Lifetime sales. It's a
- 5:18pretty stunning win for Sony in this round of
- 5:20the console wars. That really says something
- 5:21about their strategy, doesn't it? Especially
- 5:23keeping momentum this late in the console's life.
- 5:25It's almost five years old. It is. And sales
- 5:27are still actually growing slightly 3 .9 million
- 5:30this quarter compared to 3 .8 million the same
- 5:32time last year. So what's the key difference
- 5:34then? Why is Sony pulling ahead so much in hardware
- 5:37sales? Well, the thinking is Sony is just consistently
- 5:40focused on those big blockbuster exclusive single
- 5:43player games, things that make you buy the console.
- 5:46Right. Whereas Microsoft has really leaned into
- 5:48Game Pass. Exactly. Game Pass is more about the
- 5:51subscription, the service, getting it on PC,
- 5:53on cloud. broadening the platform reach, not
- 5:56necessarily just selling boxes. But is the war
- 5:59over then? I mean, Microsoft bought Activision
- 6:01Blizzard. They're playing a longer game, maybe.
- 6:04Is this just hardware noise before the ecosystem
- 6:06battle really heats up? That's the big question,
- 6:08isn't it? It's definitely the friction point.
- 6:10For now though, Sony's hardware dominance is
- 6:12clear, and their financials look strong because
- 6:14of it. Yeah, they actually revised their gaming
- 6:16revenue forecast up, right? They did, up by 150
- 6:19billion yen, that's nearly a billion US dollars,
- 6:23to 4 .47 trillion for the fiscal year. And this
- 6:26is despite things like tariffs and the GTA LI
- 6:29delay. So the PS5 is just a money -making machine
- 6:32for them. It's getting close to the PS3's lifetime
- 6:34sales now. Yep, closing in on the PS3's 87 .4
- 6:38million. Still a ways behind the PS4's 117 million
- 6:42and the legendary PS2 at 160 million, but still
- 6:46huge. And the ecosystem seems healthy too. 119
- 6:49million monthly active users. Very healthy. Okay,
- 6:53so from hardware success. Let's move to something
- 6:55potentially more troubling, a potential crisis
- 6:58involving AI and music. Ah, yeah. This is where
- 7:01that machine scale really clashes with human
- 7:05creation and transparency. Exactly. This Deezer
- 7:07Ipsos survey... It's pretty eye -opening. They
- 7:10talked to 9 ,000 listeners about AI music. And
- 7:12the headline number is just wild. It really is.
- 7:15A staggering 97 % of listeners could not tell
- 7:18the difference between a song made by a human
- 7:20and one generated entirely by AI in a blind test.
- 7:2397%. That's almost everyone. Even people who
- 7:25love music couldn't tell. Right. It shows the
- 7:27quality, or at least the mimicry, of AI generation
- 7:30is incredibly high now, functionally indistinguishable
- 7:32for most ears. Which means the volume could just
- 7:35explode. But it is exploding. Get this. Deezer
- 7:37is now getting over 50 ,000 fully AI -generated
- 7:40tracks submitted every single day. 50 ,000 a
- 7:43day. Yep. That's 34 % over a third of all music
- 7:47being delivered to their service. And that's
- 7:50way up from just 10 ,000 a day back in January.
- 7:53It's exponential. OK, so if you can't tell the
- 7:55difference, and there's this massive flood of
- 7:58it, what does that do to actual human artists?
- 8:04royalties that's the core problem and listeners
- 8:07seem to get it they're demanding transparency
- 8:0980 % in the survey said AI music should be clearly
- 8:12labeled make sense and would they actually avoid
- 8:14it well 73 % want to know if AI tracks are being
- 8:18recommended to them by the algorithm and 40 %
- 8:20said they'd actually skip them if they knew hmm
- 8:22so there's a desire for authenticity there what
- 8:25about the ethics People are concerned. 70 % believe
- 8:28AI music is a threat to artists' livelihoods.
- 8:30Yeah, I can see that. And 69 % think AI tracks
- 8:33should get lower payouts than human -made music.
- 8:36Plus, 65 % believe AI companies shouldn't be
- 8:38training their models on copyrighted music without
- 8:40permission. Right. The training data is a huge
- 8:43issue, too. So what are platforms like Deezer
- 8:45actually doing about this flood? Well, Deezer
- 8:47seems to be taking it very seriously. They're
- 8:49using their own AI detection tools to identify
- 8:52this stuff. They're tagging the content as AI
- 8:54generated, and crucially, they're excluding these
- 8:57AI tracks from their own curated editorial playlists
- 9:01and also from the algorithmic recommendations.
- 9:03So they're trying to keep it from overwhelming
- 9:05human music discovery. Exactly. And they're also
- 9:08fighting fraud. They say up to 70 % of the plays
- 9:11on these AI tracks look fraudulent, like bot
- 9:14streams. They filter those out before calculating
- 9:16royalties. Wow. So it's not just volume. It's
- 9:20potentially fake engagement trying to gain the
- 9:22royalty system. Seems like it. It's a real battle
- 9:24over authenticity, discovery, and just making
- 9:28sure actual human creators don't get drowned
- 9:30out or ripped off by low effort machine noise.
- 9:33A tricky situation. Okay, before we wrap up today,
- 9:36just one more quick thank you to our other sponsor,
- 9:39Sconee. Ah, Sconee, premium golf shoes. That's
- 9:42right, if you're hitting the links and looking

- 9:54order. The website is www .scosene .com. Definitely
- 9:57worth a look for the golfers out there. Alright,
- 9:59so let's do a quick recap, connecting the dots
- 10:01on today's stories. What are the big takeaways?
- 10:03Okay, first up, Google's putting serious AI power,
- 10:07that nano banana model, into Google Photos. It
- 10:10makes complex image editing as easy as talking.
- 10:12But for now, that full power gives Android a
- 10:15significant advantage over iOS, changing the
- 10:18game for mobile creators potentially. Right.
- 10:21Second, the PlayStation 5 is an absolute beast.
- 10:24It's hit 84 .2 million units sold. Officially
- 10:28outselling the lifetime total of every single
- 10:30Xbox console generation ever made. A huge hardware
- 10:33win for Sony's focus on big, exclusive games.
- 10:35Yeah, massive milestone. And finally, that AI
- 10:39music situation is basically indistinguishable
- 10:41from human music for almost everyone 97 % couldn't
- 10:44tell. And with tens of thousands of AI tracks
- 10:47flooding services daily, platforms like Deezer
- 10:49are scrambling to detect, label, and filter it
- 10:51to protect human artists and fight fraud. Transparency
- 10:54is becoming critical. Definitely. It really feels
- 10:56like the speed of technology is constantly pushing
- 10:59us to redefine what skill means, what value means,
- 11:03what authenticity means. Well said. Hopefully
- 11:06we helped you connect a few of those dots today.
