- 0:03Alan Carroll: Welcome back, everybody, to another episode of
- 0:07the mindful U podcast. Our guest today, I met several months ago
- 0:16at a seminar called embracing the Woo, focusing in on
- 0:25spirituality, focused on healing and focused on mindfulness. And
- 0:33when I was talking to our guest, she mentioned that she was a
- 0:38certified trainer for Jack Canfield. Jack Canfield is one
- 0:45of the most popular Buddhist instructors, teachers, author of
- 0:54books, seminars in the world. And I said, Wow, let's invite
- 1:01you on to the mindful you podcast to share about what you
- 1:05are discovering, working with Jack, and other things that
- 1:08you've done to become more present, and more mindful. Our
- 1:14guests name is Luanne hunt. And I am excited because she has so
- 1:23much knowledge. She has knowledge of the mindfulness,
- 1:26she has knowledge of the meditation, she has knowledge of
- 1:31vision boards, she has knowledge of books, she's written in
- 1:36books, she's written chapters. And so she's a wealth of
- 1:40information. And I enjoyed interviewing her on the podcast,
- 1:45and it is with a great joy to welcome the WAN hunt, to the
- 1:51mindful you podcast. Luann Welcome to the mindful you
- 1:59podcast. I'm excited to be here. I'm excited to be able to talk
- 2:05to you today. And well, I'm
- 2:08Unknown: excited to be here.
- 2:10Alan Carroll: First two people that are excited, I like that, I
- 2:13like that. And what excites me Luann is the fact that you have
- 2:19traveled a path. And I will call that path, mindfulness
- 2:26meditation. And one of the key people that you have connected
- 2:33to on the path, which I've heard, all my life is Jack
- 2:38Canfield. And to have someone who has been certified by that
- 2:45organization, dealing with mindfulness, meditation,
- 2:49forgiveness, gratitude, all those, all those terms. And that
- 2:54conversation is very exciting to be able to have you share with
- 3:00us some of the learnings and some of the teachings that Jack
- 3:04has given to us and given to the world. Um, so that is just, you
- 3:09know, wonderful opportunity that I couldn't miss having you be on
- 3:14the podcast to share with us a little bit about Jax, Jax magic.
- 3:22Lou Anne Hunt: Yes, magic it is. He's pretty amazing. He's
- 3:27written several books, and they become number one bestsellers on
- 3:30the New York best selling Times list. So that's exciting, too.
- 3:35Alan Carroll: And my understanding is that some of
- 3:38those best selling books has a chapter that was written by you.
- 3:44Unknown: Well, actually, yes, I have written chapters in two
- 3:47books that are inspired
- 3:51Alan Carroll: to talk about the chapters. Okay.
- 3:54Unknown: The first book was actually released last June. The
- 3:58forward is by Jack Canfield, and it was called the book on
- 4:02transformation. So how I basically transformed my life.
- 4:07In one chapter, I went from a reading a high reading for my a
- 4:14one C, which is the diabetes reading, I went from a pretty
- 4:18high level of type two diabetes, to actually lowering it to just
- 4:24below the minimum amount that should be or the maximum amount
- 4:29I should say, and I have actually reversed my type two
- 4:33diabetes without the use of drugs. And I did that wonder
- 4:38within three months, yes. And are you I wrote about it in the
- 4:44book.
- 4:45Alan Carroll: Yeah. I was wondering, are you making a
- 4:47connection between what Jack teaches and what you have
- 4:52implemented? Is there a connection between the two?
- 4:56Unknown: Oh, for sure. Jack teaches us all about
- 4:58transformation and how important It is in our lives and how we
- 5:01will always be going through some sort of transformation in
- 5:06our lives, no matter what happens. So it just goes from
- 5:10one level to another. And at that point in the book, when I
- 5:15talk about reversing my type two diabetes, it's one of the
- 5:20highest pandemics, believe it or not, in the United States and in
- 5:25Canada. And after the pandemic, which was COVID, it actually was
- 5:31even higher, because of all the sedentary and everybody getting
- 5:35locked down and getting locked in and Jack chat taught us to
- 5:40never give up. And I was studying under Jack when this
- 5:44came about. And one of the things that I studied under Jack
- 5:48was actually vision boards. And I put right in the center of my
- 5:54vision board, which is right over my head that I look at
- 5:57every day that I wanted to beat type two diabetes within three
- 6:02months. And that is right in the center of my vision board. And
- 6:06what's interesting is, I actually accomplished that when
- 6:10I went in to get my A when C tested again, I told the nurse
- 6:16when she was taking my blood work, that I was going to lower
- 6:19my a one C two below the normal amount. And she started
- 6:24laughing. She said, Well, don't be disappointed if that doesn't
- 6:28happen. She said, because that's a kind of a rare thing. And I
- 6:31said, Well, it's going to happen because I put it in the middle
- 6:34of my vision board. And she started laughing. And she was
- 6:38telling everybody in the office, she's like, Oh, get a load of
- 6:40this one, she's gonna lower a one see, because she put it on
- 6:44her vision board. Well, I kind of had the last laugh, because I
- 6:48did lower it. So and I lowered it lower than what I had
- 6:53actually targeted for. So it was pretty funny at the time.
- 6:58Alan Carroll: And so there's a power that is available, if you
- 7:05can utilize various resources, and one of the resources you're
- 7:10talking about is a vision board. So for audiences may not be
- 7:16fully aware of what a vision board is, why don't you sort of
- 7:20take us on a little tour of what a vision board is, and how to
- 7:23create a vision board?
- 7:26Unknown: Sure. Actually, I'm doing a talk next week, on
- 7:31Wednesday, through Kimberly Crowe, and I am doing my
- 7:36presentation on vision boards, how to create a magical vision
- 7:42board. So isn't this great timing? And wasn't that what I
- 7:46talked about during the session when I met you? When we did
- 7:52embrace the Whoo?
- 7:54Alan Carroll: Absolutely. Yes, I'm very familiar with embrace
- 7:59the Whoo. And also I want to delve into what are some of the
- 8:05key if I wanted to create a vision board? What absolutely, I
- 8:09What would I do?
- 8:12Unknown: Well, the first thing that you should do is if you
- 8:16already have a vision board, there's ways that you can make
- 8:19it more powerful, which I'll talk about in a second. But if
- 8:22you're just kind of getting ready to start a vision board,
- 8:28the very first thing that you should do is you should sit down
- 8:32and write out I would say 20 to 25 things that you have
- 8:38accomplished goals that you have accomplished in the last six
- 8:42months to a year. And the reason why you want to do that is
- 8:46because you want to get those juices flowing. And you want to
- 8:50know that it's possible. You want to make your mind the
- 8:54mindset, you want to set your mind up so that it knows that
- 8:58things that you think about are possible. And then from there,
- 9:03what you want to do is you want to write down, you want to write
- 9:07out your goals that you would like to actually work on or the
- 9:13goals for maybe your business, or in the six areas such as your
- 9:17health community, maybe your love goals, your employment
- 9:23goals, your or your retirement goals, your fitness goals. You
- 9:28want to write those down, even if you just keep them short and
- 9:31sweet. That's okay. But you want to make a list so that you can
- 9:35know exactly where you're going. Because you don't want to go to
- 9:40the ocean with a teaspoon Correct.
- 9:42Alan Carroll: That's cute. No, you want to
- 9:47Unknown: and you definitely don't want to go to a casino
- 9:50without any money. So when you write down your accomplishments
- 9:54before you even write down your goals, you're setting yourself
- 9:58up to know that it's fun Basketball, and that you can do
- 10:01it. So that's the first thing that you want to do, you want to
- 10:04sit down and you want to write out those goals. And then from
- 10:08there, what you want to do is you want to make it kind of
- 10:10visual, and you want to make it so that you feel those goals.
- 10:15And the best way to do that is to maybe flip through some old
- 10:19magazines, or believe it or not some travel magazines, that's
- 10:24exciting. You want to flip through magazines, because
- 10:28you're actually using both sides of your brain. When you do that,
- 10:33you're working both sides of the brain. And you're the one who
- 10:37kind of taught me a little bit about that. So you're engaging
- 10:40both sides of the brain. And that's a good thing. Because
- 10:43that will definitely bring into place, you want to wrap your
- 10:47head around that whole site. Since hearing, touching. And you
- 10:56want to pick out some pictures. Now I'm not saying that if you
- 10:58want to create a vision board on Canva, or on the computer on,
- 11:05I've done many on PowerPoint or anything to that effect, that it
- 11:08doesn't work, it's just a lot better. Like I said, it engages
- 11:14both sides of the brain. And it really is effective if you can
- 11:18cut pictures out. And not just pictures, but little things that
- 11:24that you'd like to hear that just they bring you a motion.
- 11:29And like they make you feel good. And this is where you're
- 11:33going to say, Yes, that sounds like me, that sounds like a
- 11:39goal. One of the one of the vision boards, and I just want
- 11:44to say this too, if I could back up a little bit, you don't have
- 11:47to have, you don't have to have a vision board with, say, the
- 11:53next year's goals. So you can have a vision board for
- 11:59something that's coming up that you want to achieve. So if I can
- 12:03give you an example, I had surgery last November, and I was
- 12:08very concerned about the surgery. So I sat down. And I
- 12:12actually put a vision board together to represent how I'm
- 12:17going to feel after that surgery. So all of the pictures
- 12:22that I cut out were pictures that were representing, you
- 12:27know, things that were healthy, I cut out some pictures on, you
- 12:34know, like me hiking or that type of thing. And words that I
- 12:38knew were going to empower me to feel better to really make it
- 12:45work so that the mindset would set in. And I would have these
- 12:50words. So if I can give you some examples I have I have living
- 12:56well that I cut out healthy choices with a heart. Feeling
- 13:02good starts inside. Give peace of mind this holiday because it
- 13:07was in November. So celebrate the moment I put down things
- 13:13like plumb Perfect. Keep on track, never give up. Take care
- 13:19of your health, naturally, I make a difference in the world.
- 13:23And right in the center is a huge picture of me with the
- 13:27mindset playground because that's my true love. And then
- 13:31down in the other corner is a picture of a bowl of fruit. And
- 13:36just things that are healthy. And keep going. Never let them
- 13:41dull, your sparkle. All things are possible, manifest. Feeling
- 13:49peachy, like all these things that I put on this vision board.
- 13:53So these are just words that I cut out. There's a little
- 13:58bathtub picture and it says take care of you. Just little things
- 14:02like that. That made me smile as I was flipping through the
- 14:05magazines. And I just cut them all out and arrange them on
- 14:11cardboard, just a piece of Bristol board. And I actually
- 14:14brought that with me to the hospital. And I had it posted
- 14:21right across from my hospital bed. And everybody came in the
- 14:26room. All of the nurses all of the visitors because I had a
- 14:30roommate, even my roommate, they all commented on the board. And
- 14:36they said, You know what is this and I said this is my vision
- 14:39board for getting healthy. And because I was really determined
- 14:43that I was going to do that I was really going to use that
- 14:47vision board to help me feel better to put me in a better
- 14:50mindset so that I found that I wasn't in pain, like I thought
- 14:58it would be and And I just found that I was up walking around the
- 15:04next morning, I just felt very invigorated and actually
- 15:08liberated, you know, that I had made it through. So I'm just
- 15:15saying that you don't have to have a year long vision board,
- 15:19if you're getting married, or if you if you're doing something
- 15:23that you want, you know, you're you're hoping to maybe win an
- 15:27award, maybe, maybe you're going to write in a book, anything,
- 15:31you can do a small vision board, focusing on just that, it
- 15:36doesn't have to be something that you want, you know, a year
- 15:40from now. So that's important. So then you just arrange them on
- 15:45the board any way that you want to, there's really no wrong or
- 15:48right way to do it. But here's a couple of hints. Number one,
- 15:55make sure that you include a picture of yourself, when you're
- 15:58happy when you're smiling. So make sure somewhere on the
- 16:03vision board, your picture is there. And you're smiling.
- 16:08Whether you're you know, if you want to lose some weight,
- 16:11whether you're heavier, or you're thinner, whatever the
- 16:14case is, it doesn't matter. As long as you have that smile. And
- 16:18you know, that that's what you're going for. And I would
- 16:22have to say the other thing is make sure that you put it
- 16:26somewhere where you're going to see it all the time, all the
- 16:29time, even if it's not completed. And if you come
- 16:33across a picture, or a saying, You have no idea why you're
- 16:40cutting out that picture, you just like it, right? To yet,
- 16:45like to give you an example, I have the cutest little picture
- 16:49of these two dogs and two cats that I found in a magazine, and
- 16:56I just loved this picture. I'm allergic to cats. I have two
- 17:01dogs, I had no idea why I wanted to cut this out and put it on my
- 17:07vision board. And it turned out that as soon as I did that, and
- 17:12I put it on my one vision board for the year and annual vision
- 17:16board. It turned out that Betty White had passed away. And that
- 17:22week, they were celebrating Betty White and she was very
- 17:25much into shelters. So it came to me that I wanted to donate to
- 17:30a shelter. Because of the Betty White. They had something on
- 17:37Facebook a challenge or something. And so I said, Well,
- 17:41that's the reason why I picked out that picture. I had no idea
- 17:45at the time. And the next day was really interesting, because
- 17:49this is how powerful vision boards are. The next day, when I
- 17:53walked into the pet store to buy my two dogs, some pet food,
- 17:58there was actually a lady there from the shelter, the pet
- 18:02shelter the local pet shelter. And they have, they were talking
- 18:06about their program that they have at this pet shelter. It's
- 18:10called the Blue leash program. And what it is, is it's a
- 18:15program where they will take animals who come from violent
- 18:21homes like domestic violence, and they will take the dog in so
- 18:27that the spouse or the person who is the victim can get away
- 18:32from the home. Because it's a proven fact that a lot of people
- 18:36will not leave a violent situation, because they're
- 18:39afraid of what will happen with their pet.
- 18:43And a lot of them can't take their pets with them. But this
- 18:48pro or this project, what they'll do is they will take in
- 18:52the pet, and they will feed it and take care of it. And they
- 18:57will, you know, make sure that it's safe so that when you are
- 19:01out of the home, if you can come back and pick up your dog
- 19:04because you're in a place that safe and will accept the dog or
- 19:09the cat, then they can come and retrieve their animal. And I
- 19:13just thought that was just amazing that they have a program
- 19:17like that. And although I can't adopt a pet because I have two
- 19:22dogs already, I said I definitely want to support that
- 19:27program because it's such a great program. So that's just an
- 19:31example of when you see a picture and you have no idea.
- 19:37You have no idea why you're cutting it out. Or why you love
- 19:41it. What's drawn you to that picture. Just put it on your
- 19:45vision board. Sure. Number one, it's going to make you have the
- 19:48every time you see it. And it's not going to hurt anything,
- 19:53that's for sure. And so these are some of the tips, and then
- 19:58you arrange everything on your vision Word and along with some
- 20:01great messages that you pick out, such as you know, feeling
- 20:06good, loving, well manifesting, I am enough, these things will
- 20:12happen, anything is possible, just words like that, that will
- 20:15just make it that much more powerful. Put them on that
- 20:19vision board. And don't be afraid to share it, show it to
- 20:23people. So that's what I have to say about vision boards.
- 20:28Alan Carroll: Well, that's wonderful. I get the idea that
- 20:33there's a there's another part of ourselves, we'll call it
- 20:38unconscious, that is below the surface, that's the seat that
- 20:43seems to know everything that's connected to mindfulness, it's
- 20:46connected to the space. And if you can sort of get out of your
- 20:49head and get it in and get in touch with through the vision
- 20:54board, for example. It allows you to access a dimension of
- 20:59consciousness that actually can transform your your experience,
- 21:05and it's a little hard to explain, because it's, it's, it
- 21:11is beyond consciousness is something that's underneath,
- 21:15under underneath the surface. All right, well, thank you,
- 21:18thank you for sharing about the about the vision about the
- 21:21vision boards, because I believe that that is that is a valuable,
- 21:26valuable tool that gives you some alignment of your rather
- 21:32than your thoughts being like a shotgun going all over the place
- 21:35like scattering, you focus your attention, your power on on a
- 21:40particular target, and then you create the collage around that
- 21:45target. And so you get power or energy from from the from the
- 21:50vision board. Wonderful. Well, thank you for sharing that. I
- 21:55noticed also Luann in the back you have a Jax, Jax Canfield a
- 22:00book, it looks like the success principles. And yes, I wanted
- 22:05you to share with our audience a little bit about about who Jack
- 22:13Canfield is, what your training was that you went through. And
- 22:19some of the mindfulness experiences that you have,
- 22:25muscles that you've developed or techniques or practices that you
- 22:29have learned from Jack are in your own journey with our
- 22:35audience so that we can build our mindfulness muscles also. So
- 22:42please share with us a little bit about Jax, Jax wisdom and
- 22:45the things that you've gleaned from being a certified trainer
- 22:49for him.
- 22:52Unknown: I first met Jack in June 2019. And what happened
- 22:58was, it was my birthday month. And so as a birthday gift, I
- 23:04asked my husband if he would drive to Chicago, because it's
- 23:08about six hours from where I live. Because I heard that Jack
- 23:12Canfield was going to be speaking in Chicago. And the
- 23:18name of his seminar was one day to greatness. So we signed up
- 23:23for it. And then we had an opportunity to upgrade to VIP
- 23:26seats and we would actually get to meet Jack. So I was all for
- 23:30that. So we we made the trek down to Chicago, and we spent a
- 23:36couple of days in Chicago. And when I went into Jack's seminar,
- 23:42I honestly didn't know what to expect. I heard of Jack Canfield
- 23:46he was in the movie, The Secret and I knew that he was the
- 23:50author of Chicken Soup for the Soul books, but I didn't really
- 23:54know a lot about the success principles. So we sat down and
- 24:00we were in our VIP seats. And Jack started his training
- 24:04through the book. And I honestly with every little lesson that
- 24:12Jack gave us, I was honestly blown away. I really was I was
- 24:15blown away. And I said to my husband, I said everybody should
- 24:22know what Jack has to say everybody should know this. It
- 24:27just gives you a different way to to face the world to look at
- 24:32yourself. And the first lesson that he gave us was take 100%
- 24:37responsibility for yourself. And that right there blew me away
- 24:44and how much your life can change just by taking 100%
- 24:49responsibility for yourself. And at the time and still to this
- 24:55day. I was teaching business courses I am teaching business
- 24:59courses at to the local college. And I said, this should be in
- 25:06the curriculum, this should be, of course, everybody should know
- 25:10this, especially if you have a business. You can't go without
- 25:15this, the mindset, it's an unbelievable, it seriously blew
- 25:19me away. And that's the reason why I decided at that moment to
- 25:24get certified because Jack said, you know, will certify you in
- 25:29the success principles, you'll learn all of the success
- 25:33principles, you'll have access to everything I'm training you
- 25:37with today. And you'll have access to basically everything.
- 25:42And I said, I need this, I need this for college, I need it.
- 25:47Plain and simple. So I signed up for it. And it's just amazing
- 25:53how my life has completely changed. Because it was sat on a
- 25:57shelf. And for you know, a few months, because life happens
- 26:02when you're making plans, and I called it my jack in the box on
- 26:06the shelf. And, and then out of the blue, you know, the pandemic
- 26:13struck, and I had foot surgery. So here I am, I got my foot and
- 26:20cast, and it's up. And then the pandemic struck, so I couldn't
- 26:24go anywhere anyway. And I thought about that Jack in the
- 26:31Box, sitting on my shelf. And it's funny because I thought
- 26:35about it. And then I got an email from Jack. It's almost
- 26:39like Jack read my mind. And Jack said, you know that in this
- 26:44email that he was doing online stuff now and that he was doing
- 26:49reignite your life. And I was like, wow, I, I need that right
- 26:55now. I just need it. And I think so many people needed it after
- 26:59being shut down for so long. And so I started taking that course.
- 27:05And that led to another course. And that led to another course,
- 27:10this is all jacked. And then I ended up writing my
- 27:15certification exams. And I became certified. So it's just
- 27:21amazing how all of that work. So it was perfect timing, because
- 27:26it was during the pandemic. And I was actually, I was teaching
- 27:31classes online, believe it or not. And so what I did was I
- 27:35took the lessons that we learned from Jack, some of the lessons
- 27:39and I actually taught them online, just to kind of figure
- 27:46them out to see how they would go over to see if everybody felt
- 27:51the same way I did that type of thing. So the first lesson for
- 27:56sure was take 100% responsibility for yourself. And
- 28:00then I did another lesson with them on unleash the the power of
- 28:05goal setting, which is really important. And it during that
- 28:09goal setting, that's when I came across the vision board. The
- 28:14vision board exercises, what you see is what you get. That's the
- 28:18name of that chapter. And I also did one with them. And I still
- 28:23do it with them called Face your fears and do it anyway. So that
- 28:28one is a perfect chapter to talk about. And because fear, and I'm
- 28:35sure you know this, but fear really stands for false evidence
- 28:40appearing real. There's no such thing as fear. And fear is a
- 28:46lie. So it's interesting. So when I explain it to my
- 28:52students, how they can get past that fear. And do it anyway,
- 28:56because it's holding you back from whatever it might be.
- 29:01Everything just seemed to just start happening once I got
- 29:05certified and started doing those lessons and bringing them
- 29:10into effect. And when we weren't locked down anymore. I went back
- 29:15to the college, and I started doing all of these lessons. And
- 29:20these exercises, right in the classroom. And the students were
- 29:24interacting with each other and they just they loved it. They
- 29:27loved it. So I knew it was the right thing to do. And I myself
- 29:33have learned so much and so much has happened such as writing in
- 29:40these these chapters writing in these two books that I wrote in
- 29:44and setting up the mindset playground. I got an email from
- 29:51bold, brave TV asking me if I would be interested in hosting,
- 29:56you know, and I certainly never in a million years thought that
- 30:01I would be hosting my own podcasts and TV show. And now
- 30:05it's gone even beyond that. And now I actually have the mindset
- 30:10playground channel that's coming out on a TV station, transform
- 30:18your life network TV, that's going to be all over, you know,
- 30:22the internet. So I'm really excited about that, too.
- 30:25Alan Carroll: Oh, boy, a lot of a lot of energy, a lot of
- 30:29wonderful things that are happening. I like the idea of
- 30:34take responsibility. Because the opposite to that is, well, I'll
- 30:40take responsibility for this. But I'm not going to take
- 30:43responsibility for that. No, no, that was done to me. I, I'm not
- 30:49responsible for that. So what's the benefit of, of telling
- 30:53yourself that even though it doesn't appear that I'm
- 30:56responsible, if I come from that I'm responsible, somehow it will
- 31:01allow me to sail through that storm in a more in a, in a
- 31:07stronger in a stronger position. With with if I if I assume
- 31:11responsibility? So take a take us on a little journey on that
- 31:15responsibility piece.
- 31:18Unknown: Well, there is a formula that helps you
- 31:21understand taking 100% responsibility for yourself. And
- 31:26that formula is E plus r equals O,
- 31:30Alan Carroll: I'm gonna go slow. There's your E as an echo.
- 31:35Unknown: Yes, plus plus r,
- 31:38Alan Carroll: r as an RA r
- 31:42Unknown: equals O. Okay, and what that stands for, yeah, what
- 31:48that stands for is events.
- 31:54Plus, response equals outcome. So you can't change the event.
- 32:11The event happens, and life doesn't happen to us. It happens
- 32:15for us.
- 32:20Plus, your response equals your outcome. And let me give you a
- 32:28great example. So if you don't do well, on a test, that's the
- 32:36event, the test, your response to that equals your outcome. So
- 32:43if you walk into your test, and I tell all my students this
- 32:48knowing or saying, Oh,
- 32:53I hate this subject, oh, there's no way I'm gonna pass this test.
- 32:57There's no way I'm gonna pass it. Oh, I just, this is just
- 33:01terrible. I suck at this. I just know, it's, it's, it's going to
- 33:05be terrible. I'm going to forget everything I study, what's your
- 33:09outcome? Your outcome is you will probably know, I'm not
- 33:14saying in all cases, but you will probably receive the work
- 33:19that you were looking for. Right? So now if you change that
- 33:26response, if you change your response, and tell you yourself
- 33:31something positive, like, Okay, I've done the best I can, I've
- 33:36studied the best I can, this is going to be okay. It's going to
- 33:40be a test I'm prepared. I know I'm prepared. I might not get
- 33:46the a plus I'm looking for, but I'm going to shoot for it. And
- 33:50even if I get a B, that is great. Start doing it that way.
- 33:55And then walk into that test, feeling confident and feeling
- 33:59good. You will probably change your outcome. So that's the best
- 34:07way to say it. Because Oh,
- 34:12Alan Carroll: what, what I see or hear from what you're saying
- 34:17with with the formula, the the events is in the mindfulness
- 34:23terms, the event is what is it that's the way it is. It has no
- 34:29meaning. It's just that's the way the event is. Then the next
- 34:34thing is I look at how I am going to respond to to that
- 34:42event. And the way that I look at it Luann is that I can choose
- 34:51to respond to the events or I react to the events and when you
- 34:58react to the event you Take a choice out, you no longer have a
- 35:02choice. It's like an automatic automatic reaction based in my
- 35:09understanding, based on your conditioning, based on how you
- 35:13are programmed from your past, for example, GE, you're wearing
- 35:18a blue shirt. And when I was five years old, my father was
- 35:26wearing a blue shirt. And he yelled at me or something. So
- 35:30I'm associating blue shirts with yelling, and father and upset.
- 35:33So here we are 50 years later, blue shirt, and I and I react to
- 35:38it. And so being able to respond means that you have created an
- 35:46empty space between the events and your reaction to the event.
- 35:51That's like a buffer zone. Is that in my in the ballpark with
- 35:55what you're talking about?
- 35:57Unknown: Absolutely. You see a baby, if you take a baby, for
- 36:03example, and baby doesn't know. I can't. So everybody is born
- 36:12with an I Can bucket. That's what I like to call it the I can
- 36:16Alan Carroll: like it. I can see a n ca n i can bucket. Okay, I
- 36:22cannot bucket it's I can bucket. Okay?
- 36:26Unknown: I can block it. That's what I call it, the I Can
- 36:29bucket. And the thing is, is that as we grow up all of these
- 36:35I can't. I can't, I can't they end up going into that bucket.
- 36:44So your I can bucket turns into an I can't bucket. And it's
- 36:50really hard to get out of that. But if you think about a child,
- 36:53for example, who gets up on a chair? Think about that. I don't
- 36:58know if you have children or if anybody in the audience does.
- 37:02But if you have children, I'm sure or nieces or nephews, I'm
- 37:05sure you can relate to a child getting up on a chair. And you
- 37:09know, they're there and they're having fun. And they're dancing.
- 37:13And what's the first thing we say? Get down? Get down? You're
- 37:19gonna fall you're gonna get hurt. The child doesn't know
- 37:22that. Get down. One to write. That's what we do. Yeah, we're
- 37:31putting more messages into that I can't bucket. Now. Yes, if
- 37:36they fall and they hurt themselves, then yes, you were
- 37:39probably right. But the child has to learn that because they
- 37:42don't know. They don't know. So basically, it's the same thing
- 37:47when they're sitting in the classroom, or they're sitting
- 37:50wherever and they're off looking off at the stars. And they're,
- 37:54you know, they're thinking about, they're going to be an
- 37:56astronaut, or they're going to be a teacher or whatever. And
- 38:00the teacher right away said, pay attention. They take them away
- 38:05from that dreaming. That whole dreaming state, pay attention.
- 38:10You can't be doing that you can't be looking off into the
- 38:13distance. So believe it or not, it's a learned thing. And we
- 38:19learned that through our entire life. You can't do that. So as
- 38:23soon as you say, you know if I say, Well, I want to be an
- 38:27astronaut. You can't do that. You can
- 38:32Alan Carroll: never be an astronaut. Come on. You got to
- 38:34know physics got to know math guy you forget to piano Yeah.
- 38:40Unknown: You gotta you gotta be on a special diet. your butt's
- 38:43too big, whatever. Right. And so this is what we grew up with.
- 38:48These are the tapes that are in our head, that are constantly
- 38:52playing, you know, you can't do that. Who do you think you are?
- 38:56No. And so that's what I'm saying by the I can't bucket it
- 39:01becomes an I can't bucket because everything you think of
- 39:05they take that one I can either that bucket that everybody is
- 39:10born with, and they replace it with a cat. And did you know
- 39:14that children hear the word no 5000 times in their first three
- 39:22years 5000 times. So by the time they go to school isn't that
- 39:34interesting?
- 39:35Alan Carroll: I'm writing it down. So I have it in 5000
- 39:38times. That's like the programming you pretty soon you
- 39:42you live in a psychological prison and you don't know you're
- 39:46in a psychological prison created by your own mind about I
- 39:50can't go beyond that because I can't go beyond that. Even
- 39:54though you could go beyond that your your your voice inside your
- 39:58head says no, I can't do Go beyond that, and guess what's
- 40:01the outcome? The outcome is? Yeah, don't go beyond that. By
- 40:07by your own force inside your head. Absolutely, absolutely. So
- 40:12Unknown: if you want to change the Oh, which is your outcome,
- 40:16you need to change your response, you bet.
- 40:20Alan Carroll: And in order to change your response, you have
- 40:22to be awake enough to know that you are not going to
- 40:26automatically react, you're going to be able to stop going
- 40:33to be able to become mindful. Or that Gee, my button just got
- 40:37pressed, there's motions going on inside myself, attack
- 40:41thoughts, I'm thinking about I gotta get back I gotta get best
- 40:43person is doing and be able to calm that energy down. Take a
- 40:48breath, get your body relaxed, regroup, regroup, you just
- 40:53capsized, you got to right size the boat up again. Take that
- 40:59breath and take a look at what's what what the event is again,
- 41:03and and see what's what would be the healthy choice. The physical
- 41:11healthy choice, the mentally healthy choice, the emotional
- 41:14healthy choice. And usually, and my reality is you got to you got
- 41:19to figure out a way to shift the the negative. And to what you
- 41:28talked about earlier. Gratitude. Yes, I like to complete our
- 41:35podcast, because I know gratitude is something that is
- 41:39an important ingredient in that Springboarding yourself from
- 41:43that I can't and not responsible and world's doing it to me, I'll
- 41:48never be able to be able to blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 41:52Most people are I find stingy with gratitude. And but I also
- 41:59find that gratitude is the one of the fastest ways that in
- 42:06forgiveness, forgiveness and gratitude to me, you're dealing
- 42:09with two things, forgiving that person that offended you,
- 42:13gratitude and appreciation of all the things that you have
- 42:17sort of pops you out of that, that negative space and put you
- 42:22into a more positive mental attitude. And you celebrate,
- 42:26Unknown: prove that, oh, yes, the reason for that is because
- 42:30it is medical, it is a medically known fact that you cannot think
- 42:39of two things at the same time. That's not how the brain is
- 42:45wired. And women think it's just men, but it's us as well. So
- 42:51what I mean by that is when you're in a bad mood, or you're
- 42:54going to react in a negative way, or you're going to do
- 42:57something that might not be the way that you should do it. You
- 43:04need to like you said, either go into forgiveness or go into
- 43:08gratitude. Because your brain cannot focus on those two, the
- 43:14negativity and the gratitude, the negativity and the
- 43:18forgiveness, it can I focus on both at the same time. That is
- 43:24the quickest and the easiest way to rewire your brain. And that's
- 43:30why one of the things I talked about is creating a joy list.
- 43:35Write down the things that really bring you joy, and carry
- 43:41that list with you. And the next time you're having any negative
- 43:47thoughts whatsoever, or before you go into a job interview, or
- 43:51before you do anything. Maybe go on your first date, I don't
- 43:55know, whatever it may be be. Read your joy list. And you will
- 44:03have a mind shift automatically, without even trying.
- 44:11Alan Carroll: What a fountain of knowledge put in a fountain of
- 44:15information, wisdom Luann that you've given us today.
- 44:19Everything from the the E plus r equals O the gratitude, the
- 44:24forgiveness, the vision board, all these are wonderful tools
- 44:31that allows us to become more present, less of a victim of our
- 44:38conditioning, more of a mindful presence, relaxed, still not
- 44:49agitated. Take that breath. Very, very present very, very
- 44:56mindful. So I want to thank you for all the wisdom that you have
- 45:00been pardoned today. And also if people wanted to connect with
- 45:05you, they wanted to find out more about you and the mindset
- 45:09playground, what would be the best way to connect with you in
- 45:14addition to the show notes that are accompanied the podcast
- 45:20Unknown: everything is on my website, which is super simple.
- 45:24It's Luanne hunt, just like it shows in the window there. LEWIN
- 45:28hunt.ca Everything is on my website. So how to connect with
- 45:35me what I talk about the books that I've written in, and of
- 45:41course, the mindset playground.
- 45:44Alan Carroll: Wonderful. Well, thank you Luann been a wonderful
- 45:48guest. I appreciate you sharing your wisdom with the audience.
- 45:51And just have a wonderful mindful stillness, joyful day.
- 45:56Thank you very much.
- 45:58Unknown: Namaste
- 45:59Alan Carroll: Namaste.
