- 0:43Speaker 3: I didn't seek it, I didn't choose it. But it's
- 0:45Speaker 3: up to me to use it. I must suffer if
- 0:47Speaker 3: I lose it, get a counter five abuse it just
- 0:50Speaker 3: a tiny little minute, but our eternity is wrapped up,

- 1:05Speaker 2: I always always text him, I call him man.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Just sometimes you have to let brother know or friend
- 1:11Speaker 1: know you listen by dropping a little krumb about an episode.
- 1:13Speaker 2: You just heard, and you go, oh, whoa oh, he
- 1:17Speaker 2: does listen to my show.
- 1:19Speaker 3: It encourages me so much when I get those comments
- 1:22Speaker 3: from you, Thank you man. You just don't know how
- 1:24Speaker 3: much I appreciate it. And I'm grateful. I'm grateful, grateful.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Well, you know, I always like to get my audience
- 1:30Speaker 1: locked in, you know, don't want to lose them because
- 1:32Speaker 1: they want to listen real quick and see it's something
- 1:34Speaker 1: they want to hear.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Rich is good, Rich is good, Wealthy is better. Rich
- 1:39Speaker 2: is good.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I would say that one more time wealthy is better
- 1:42Speaker 1: because the word rich and wealthy.
- 1:45Speaker 2: What is the difference there? Right, Doctor Colin, you know what?
- 1:49Speaker 3: Let me tell you how this book came to be. I,
- 1:51Speaker 3: as you know, have been on Serious Exam Channel one
- 1:54Speaker 3: forty one now.
- 1:55Speaker 2: But I've been on Serious Exam.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I was first on the Power on one twenty six
- 1:59Speaker 3: and then I'm moved over to one twenty one thirteen
- 2:01Speaker 3: years ago.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I've been on Exem for twenty years.
- 2:04Speaker 3: And over those twenty years, I've had the honor of
- 2:07Speaker 3: interviewing some of the greatest wealth creators of our time,
- 2:11Speaker 3: people like Bill Marriott and David Rubinstein and David Stewart,
- 2:16Speaker 3: America's wealthy as black Man, Bob Johnson, Sheila Johnson, Ted
- 2:21Speaker 3: le ELS's the found co founder of Netflix, one after another,
- 2:26Speaker 3: Damon John John ho'brien, and over those years, I was
- 2:30Speaker 3: inspired by them, but I didn't know the difference between
- 2:34Speaker 3: being rich and wealthy.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Oh I thought I knew.
- 2:37Speaker 3: But about four years ago that the proverbial light bulb
- 2:41Speaker 3: went off above my head and I said, oh my god,
- 2:45Speaker 3: I got it. Bob Johnson had tried to tell me,
- 2:48Speaker 3: but I didn't get it. I didn't capture it. But
- 2:51Speaker 3: finally it came to my brain, here's the difference. And
- 2:55Speaker 3: I said, well, maybe I'm the only one who doesn't
- 2:59Speaker 3: know the difference. Maybe I'm the outlier here. So I
- 3:01Speaker 3: went around the country and doing my speaking engagement to
- 3:04Speaker 3: corporations on my tours and ask people, Hey, what do
- 3:09Speaker 3: you say when I say the word rich?
- 3:10Speaker 2: What do you think? They's a immediate number one answer,
- 3:13Speaker 2: million dollars. You got a million dollars, you're rich? Okay, great? Now,
- 3:16Speaker 2: if rich is a million, what's wealthy? And they'll look
- 3:19Speaker 2: up in the air.
- 3:19Speaker 3: They'll ponder for a minute, and they say, I guess
- 3:23Speaker 3: it's five million, ten million, a billion.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And I realized other people didn't know either, okay.
- 3:30Speaker 3: And said, I said, if they don't know, how will
- 3:33Speaker 3: they ever hit it. It's like this, sir, rouseean if
- 3:36Speaker 3: I gave you a rock and say hit the closest
- 3:39Speaker 3: wall to where you're sitting, You hit the rock with
- 3:42Speaker 3: the wall close to you.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Okay, got it.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Now let's say I say here's the rock again, but
- 3:47Speaker 3: this time, before you throw it, I want to put
- 3:49Speaker 3: you a blindfold over your eyes, turn you around until
- 3:53Speaker 3: you can't know which direction you're facing.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Now do it again? Well, can you do it?
- 3:58Speaker 1: No?
- 3:58Speaker 3: It's hard to hit what you can't see, and it's
- 4:01Speaker 3: even harder to hit what you don't know. And I
- 4:03Speaker 3: realized most people did not know the difference between being
- 4:07Speaker 3: rich and wealthy.
- 4:08Speaker 2: And I was one of them.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Now, let's talk about the book a little bit more detailed.
- 4:12Speaker 1: You know, my mindset money mindset, because that's what you're
- 4:15Speaker 1: talking about. People can drive a car, people can live
- 4:17Speaker 1: in a house, and I call that working wealthy anyway,
- 4:20Speaker 1: So if you start working, then your wealth goes away.
- 4:23Speaker 1: That's understanding is there's mailbox money and they're working money,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and we're trying to do is transition people from the
- 4:29Speaker 1: working money to the mailbox money.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Absolutely well, well, there are two groups that this book
- 4:34Speaker 3: is focused on, Rushan. The first group are the people
- 4:37Speaker 3: who want to be wealthy but don't know how to
- 4:40Speaker 3: get there, and they can take these lessons I've learned
- 4:43Speaker 3: from these wealth creators, and look, I'm just teaching what
- 4:46Speaker 3: I've been taught. So the first is helping people get
- 4:49Speaker 3: to wealth. But the second group, Rushan, is where we're
- 4:52Speaker 3: seeing the greatest response is amazing. People are buying it.
- 4:56Speaker 3: In volume eight nine ten, one lady bought a box
- 5:00Speaker 3: thirty copies. She said, I want one for every child,
- 5:02Speaker 3: every grandchild, every niece, every nephew. Here are the people
- 5:05Speaker 3: who have worked hard all their lives, scrimped, saved, sacrificed,
- 5:12Speaker 3: done without so they could create a nest egg, and
- 5:16Speaker 3: they're concerned that their children will not take care of
- 5:19Speaker 3: it and will squander it. Or as one man said
- 5:22Speaker 3: to me, he said, doctor Jolly, my greatest fear is
- 5:26Speaker 3: that my children will not treat my money like I
- 5:30Speaker 3: treated it, and they will go through in months what
- 5:34Speaker 3: it took decades and decades and decades for me to grow.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I want help. This book is the answer.
- 5:40Speaker 3: I recommend every parent, everybody who has a nest egg
- 5:45Speaker 3: get copies of this for people who are in their family.
- 5:49Speaker 3: You asked about the mindset, as you said, and you've
- 5:53Speaker 3: read the book. I talk about the five money mindsets.
- 5:57Speaker 3: The lowest level is the one day mindset. That's the
- 6:01Speaker 3: person who stands on a corner with a cardboard box
- 6:06Speaker 3: every day saying, give me enough money for the day,
- 6:08Speaker 3: and they repeat that process every day.
- 6:11Speaker 2: We've all seen them.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Then you got the thirty day mindset, which are the
- 6:15Speaker 3: people who are on fixed income, whether they're retirement, social Security,
- 6:19Speaker 3: or in welfare, whatever it is that it comes in
- 6:22Speaker 3: thirty day payments and every month they are looking forward
- 6:26Speaker 3: to that next month.
- 6:27Speaker 2: They think month, the month.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Then you get the one year mindset, people who think
- 6:32Speaker 3: a year to year. Did I make more money this
- 6:35Speaker 3: year than last year? Did I get a cost of
- 6:37Speaker 3: living raise this year? Then you get the decade mindset,
- 6:40Speaker 3: which is the mindset we typically see with athletes and entertainers.
- 6:46Speaker 3: A baseball player might get a ten year contract to
- 6:51Speaker 3: play baseball and for ten years, one hundred million dollars.
- 6:55Speaker 2: And he's bawling. He got five Bentleys, four rolls, Royces
- 6:59Speaker 2: to homes.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Jet, he's rolling, he balling, he got table savers when
- 7:04Speaker 3: he go to the club.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I mean, he got it all.
- 7:07Speaker 3: But if he does not renew that contract, or if
- 7:11Speaker 3: he gets hurt and does not modify his lifestyle, he's
- 7:18Speaker 3: going to be broke. And that is why over seventy
- 7:21Speaker 3: percent of professional athletes are broke five years after retirement.
- 7:24Speaker 2: But then we got the wealth mindset. And the wealth.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Mindset is a mindset that says thinks generation, the generation,
- 7:33Speaker 3: the generation. You know, the Bible says that a good
- 7:35Speaker 3: man leaves an inheritance for his children's children's great grandchildren.
- 7:40Speaker 3: And so my goal in the book is to get
- 7:42Speaker 3: each level to go up one level, just one level.
- 7:46Speaker 2: The one day guy, it's too big.
- 7:49Speaker 3: A jump for him to think generationally at this point.
- 7:52Speaker 3: But if I can get him just to go up
- 7:53Speaker 3: to the thirty day, and if I can get to
- 7:55Speaker 3: thirty day, people to get up to one year, and
- 7:57Speaker 3: I get to one year, folks to get up to
- 7:58Speaker 3: the ten year and I get to ten folks to
- 8:00Speaker 3: get up to the generation, then I've done my job.
- 8:04Speaker 3: And so that's why I'm encouraging people to go to
- 8:06Speaker 3: Riches's Good, Wealthy is Better, get copies of the book,
- 8:09Speaker 3: read the excerpts we have there.
- 8:11Speaker 2: But we want to change people's mindset. And you hit
- 8:14Speaker 2: it right on the head.
- 8:15Speaker 3: It's about a mindset. Wealth starts in your mind. It
- 8:18Speaker 3: starts in your mind.
- 8:20Speaker 1: You don't want to miss an episode of Money Making

- 8:33Speaker 4: you get your podcasts.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Please don't go anywhere.
- 8:37Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Welcome back to Money Making Conversations master Class with me
- 8:46Speaker 1: for Sean McDonald. Now from a minority community, you've heard
- 8:51Speaker 1: it all the time. You know, we're the last to
- 8:52Speaker 1: get different mats, were the last to get hired, the
- 8:54Speaker 1: first to get fired, and the first get laid off.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That's a cycle, especially that one day cycle or that
- 8:59Speaker 1: third you know, there's number two mindset, which is the
- 9:02Speaker 1: thirty day cycle.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Right live to check to check. Right.
- 9:06Speaker 1: With that being said, people will listening to the show,
- 9:08Speaker 1: Let's switch that over to the small business owner entrepreneurs. Yeah,
- 9:12Speaker 1: they trying to survive beyond the thirty day cycle. They're
- 9:15Speaker 1: trying to get to the year plan because they got
- 9:17Speaker 1: to project. How do you look at them when they
- 9:20Speaker 1: come to you for advice, doctor Willie Jobbles.
- 9:22Speaker 3: You know, and as an entrepreneur and as a guy
- 9:26Speaker 3: who has had.
- 9:27Speaker 2: A small business with a small team.
- 9:29Speaker 3: And they classify small business less than five hundred people.
- 9:33Speaker 3: And so I've had a small business all my life.
- 9:37Speaker 3: I got a small team. But here's what I say
- 9:39Speaker 3: to entrepreneurs and for those who listen to me on
- 9:42Speaker 3: my ex sum show, you know that one of the
- 9:44Speaker 3: focus areas is for the entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs and small business people.
- 9:49Speaker 3: And I encourage you to tune in after you listen
- 9:52Speaker 3: to ra Sean on his show, tune in on Saturday's
- 9:55Speaker 3: four o'clock Channel one forty one re airs Tuesdays and
- 9:59Speaker 3: Thursdays at six and then it goes to podcasts, The
- 10:01Speaker 3: Willie Jolly Wealthy Ways Show podcast.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Now here's what I say to small business people.
- 10:07Speaker 3: The key to success in growing wealth is discipline.
- 10:13Speaker 2: You got to have discipline, and discipline.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Is across all the types of wealth, cause there are
- 10:20Speaker 3: five types of wealth that I discussed in the book.
- 10:23Speaker 3: First kind of wealth, of course, is financial wealth. But
- 10:26Speaker 3: the second kind of wealth is health wealth. If you
- 10:29Speaker 3: are sick, you cannot enjoy the great revenues you're generating.
- 10:35Speaker 3: It is said that Steve Jobs on his deathbed said
- 10:40Speaker 3: I'd give all the money away for more time. And
- 10:43Speaker 3: my friend Les Brown says it like this, and I
- 10:46Speaker 3: wrote it in the book. He said, the sick person
- 10:50Speaker 3: has one dream, while the healthy person has a thousand dreams.
- 10:56Speaker 3: You want to be healthy, so your health wealth is
- 10:58Speaker 3: number two. Number three is relationship wealth. It's not just
- 11:04Speaker 3: where you're going, but who's going with you.
- 11:07Speaker 2: And that's big.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Then you got the fourth type of wealth, which you
- 11:12Speaker 3: are so powerful in uh sean you in three and four,
- 11:16Speaker 3: particularly relationship because your relationships are incredible. But also your
- 11:20Speaker 3: reputational wealth what people say about you in the marketplace.
- 11:25Speaker 3: And finally we call it now a brand, you know,
- 11:28Speaker 3: a personal brand, but it's really your reputation. And the
- 11:31Speaker 3: type of wealth is your intellectual capital wealth. What do
- 11:35Speaker 3: you know, and what are people willing to pay you
- 11:37Speaker 3: because of that? So it's about mindset. Wealth starts in
- 11:41Speaker 3: the mind, and it starts with discipline. You must have
- 11:44Speaker 3: discipline to succeed in any of those wealth. If you
- 11:47Speaker 3: not help discipline about your health, if you just eat
- 11:50Speaker 3: everything you want and never work out, and drink all
- 11:54Speaker 3: the time and smoke all the time, then you're not
- 11:56Speaker 3: going to be healthy. So you got to have discipline.
- 11:59Speaker 3: And so these are the things that I think is
- 12:01Speaker 3: critical for small business people entrepreneurs is that you must
- 12:06Speaker 3: make a decision have discipline. One more thing about the
- 12:10Speaker 3: amount of money you make, because many people say, well
- 12:14Speaker 3: it's about the amount of money. No, no, no, it's
- 12:16Speaker 3: about your discipline and what you do with the money. See,
- 12:19Speaker 3: regular folks work for their money. Wealthy people make their
- 12:22Speaker 3: money work for them. I eat in the book. You
- 12:25Speaker 3: read the book. I talk about Mary Ellen Pleasant, who
- 12:29Speaker 3: was a domestic worker in the nineteen hundreds who never
- 12:34Speaker 3: made more than six thousand dollars a year cleaning people's homes.
- 12:38Speaker 3: But she lived below her means and she invested the difference,
- 12:43Speaker 3: and as a result of that, her net worth rose
- 12:46Speaker 3: to two point seven million dollars. She never made more
- 12:50Speaker 3: than six thousand dollars a year. Or how about the
- 12:53Speaker 3: secretary back in the sixties early seventies, before the internet,
- 12:59Speaker 3: who lawyers at her firm would come and say, here's
- 13:04Speaker 3: my stock by today, place this with my broker. She
- 13:08Speaker 3: would make the call, and after a while she said,
- 13:11Speaker 3: I wonder why they're doing that. So over lunch she
- 13:14Speaker 3: would ask them, why are you investing in stocks? Why
- 13:17Speaker 3: are you doing that? How do you do it? They
- 13:19Speaker 3: taught her over lunch she started making the same stock
- 13:24Speaker 3: pick sheet that they made. She never made more than
- 13:26Speaker 3: forty five thousand dollars a year, but she started buying
- 13:30Speaker 3: little bits of stock like they did. They might buy
- 13:32Speaker 3: a hundred share, She buy one share. When she retired
- 13:36Speaker 3: she had a portfolio of eight million dollars. And so
- 13:40Speaker 3: I'm saying to this folks, rich is good.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Wealthy is better. Now.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I got to tell you, folks, here's some bad news.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Everybody's not going to be rich. The Bible says that
- 13:51Speaker 3: the poor will be with you always. Everybody is not
- 13:54Speaker 3: going to be rich. But anybody, oh let me say
- 13:57Speaker 3: it again, anybody can become well if you use these
- 14:01Speaker 3: principles in the book because anybody can do what it says,
- 14:05Speaker 3: as long as you've got three thanks, listen care the book,
- 14:08Speaker 3: I tell you the three legs to wealth. One income,
- 14:13Speaker 3: you gotta have money coming in, some money. Two you
- 14:18Speaker 3: gotta live below your means, and then you invest the difference,
- 14:22Speaker 3: so you gotta have income. And then you gotta have investments.
- 14:26Speaker 3: And the third leg is insurance. You gotta protect the
- 14:31Speaker 3: asset with insurance. So you gotta have life insurance. If
- 14:35Speaker 3: you love your family, you gotta have life insurance. If
- 14:37Speaker 3: you want generation or wealth, you gotta have life insurance.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Number two, you gotta have health insurance. You gotta have
- 14:42Speaker 3: car inchurane, disability insurance and long term care insurance. That
- 14:48Speaker 3: will maintain the molt, the pit, the force field around
- 14:54Speaker 3: your wealth. You do that, you wanna be on your way.
- 14:58Speaker 3: And everybody needs to have that. Last, everybody needs to
- 15:00Speaker 3: have at least two streams of income. And in the
- 15:03Speaker 3: book I put the eight streams of income. You got
- 15:06Speaker 3: to have two streams of income. It could be thoughts,
- 15:09Speaker 3: could be bonds, it could be real estate, it could
- 15:11Speaker 3: be crypto. It could be collectibles, it could be a jewelry,
- 15:16Speaker 3: it could be paintings, the eight streams that you could
- 15:21Speaker 3: choose from, or like you you creating content Rashan, you're
- 15:25Speaker 3: content creator. Everybody can do something with their brain, So
- 15:30Speaker 3: I think that's important. This book is packed with stuff,
- 15:34Speaker 3: and I grew because of what I learned in writing this.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Absolutely, and that's why I got you on the show.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Because I'm speaking if you don't know one of the
- 15:43Speaker 1: five outstanding speakers in the world, as you can tell
- 15:47Speaker 1: you know. The thing about it was the one word
- 15:49Speaker 1: that you didn't bring up in this conversation is pride.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Come on, somebody, because when you say living but know
- 15:57Speaker 1: your means that means that means that with the plan
- 16:00Speaker 1: in the words I always go back and tell my staff.
- 16:02Speaker 1: When I was in my twenties, this guy would always
- 16:05Speaker 1: tell me white guy.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yep. He would tell me, hey, just save one hundred
- 16:08Speaker 2: and fifty dollars a month.
- 16:09Speaker 1: In my mind, I could not understand what he was
- 16:13Speaker 1: talking about because my pride went, man, I could do
- 16:16Speaker 1: something with that one hundred and fifty dollars. I got
- 16:18Speaker 1: some clothes, right, I can go on the trip. My
- 16:22Speaker 1: pride would not allow me to invest that money. Now,
- 16:27Speaker 1: twenty years later, I understood what he was talking about, right, right,
- 16:30Speaker 1: Pride is not part of my vocabulary or my lifestyle.
- 16:33Speaker 2: That's right. So that's truck about pride, because that's what
- 16:35Speaker 2: your whole book is about.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yep, Lauren applied the pride and then uplifting the intellect
- 16:42Speaker 1: and the plane.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Correct, that's right, that's right.
- 16:44Speaker 3: In the book, I talk about Bust the stories who
- 16:47Speaker 3: you might have had on the store. He's on another
- 16:49Speaker 3: channel on XM. Buster dead friend, former pastor. He now
- 16:53Speaker 3: teaches people how to get out of debt and how
- 16:55Speaker 3: to grow their wealth. And Buster said, when he was
- 16:58Speaker 3: a young pastor, he pride. He wanted to have a
- 17:01Speaker 3: Catillac like the rest of the passes. He wanted to
- 17:04Speaker 3: have fancy clothes. So he lived up to his paycheck
- 17:07Speaker 3: all the.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Way, never saving any money. And he said one day
- 17:11Speaker 2: and he had to.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Have clothes with the designer label on it. He had
- 17:15Speaker 3: had to have a certain kind of look and a
- 17:17Speaker 3: certain kind of clothes. And he said, once I realized
- 17:20Speaker 3: that my pride was killing my wealth, I had to
- 17:23Speaker 3: let the pride go so I could grab hold of
- 17:25Speaker 3: the wealth. And I think that's what we have to do.
- 17:28Speaker 3: The other thing that this book talks about is this
- 17:31Speaker 3: thing called arrogance.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Arrogance that I got the answers.
- 17:35Speaker 3: One of the things I've learned is I don't have
- 17:37Speaker 3: all the answers, and I cannot be arrogant, nor do
- 17:42Speaker 3: you want to be ignorant. So if you can get
- 17:45Speaker 3: the book, input, determins, output, what you put in, tarringes
- 17:49Speaker 3: what you put out. But if you've got arrogance and ignorance,
- 17:55Speaker 3: you on your way down because you no one can
- 17:58Speaker 3: help you. But as Less Brown says, he said he
- 18:01Speaker 3: arrogant and ignorant, no one can help you.
- 18:03Speaker 2: But if you're willing to learn, no one can stop you.
- 18:06Speaker 2: And that's what we want people to know.

- 18:36Speaker 1: Wealthy is Better, Actor Willing, Jolly he's communicating the values
- 18:41Speaker 1: of information or consistency and a plan.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Yes. Without any of that.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Then you will get confusion, frustration, and debt because average
- 18:53Speaker 1: person lift that wins. When you conngress, that wins. When
- 18:57Speaker 1: you're ignorant, that's winds. When you pride before planning.
- 19:01Speaker 2: That's right. Right.
- 19:04Speaker 1: We try to get you out of debt and get
- 19:06Speaker 1: you into planning. But then the planning part is like
- 19:11Speaker 1: looking in the other yard, driving the car, yeah, wearing
- 19:15Speaker 1: the clothes ye, going on social media, trying to post
- 19:20Speaker 1: because social media has become the biggest I think the
- 19:23Speaker 1: advocate of false pride no questions as you to compete
- 19:27Speaker 1: for images that you don't know if are real or not.
- 19:30Speaker 1: That's from your book. Rich is good, Wealthy is better.
- 19:33Speaker 1: You talk about overcoming the odds a lot. Yeah, book,
- 19:38Speaker 1: let a set back hold you back?
- 19:40Speaker 2: That's right. Why don't you talk about that so much?
- 19:43Speaker 2: Because I'm a walking, talking testament of failing. Okay, failing.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I was a nightclub singer.
- 19:51Speaker 3: For those who have never never read my book, Setback,
- 19:54Speaker 3: set Up for Comeback, I recommend you go to my website.

- 20:05Speaker 3: it and get the book or.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Set back as a setup for comeback.
- 20:08Speaker 3: First couple pages in the book, I tell my story
- 20:10Speaker 3: where I was a nightclub singer, singing in nightclubs, making
- 20:14Speaker 3: a living, winning the awards Best Jazz Singer, Best Entertainer,
- 20:18Speaker 3: Best Performer in Washington, DC. Why not at winning the
- 20:21Speaker 3: nightclub the club onwner said, we love your band, but
- 20:24Speaker 3: we've made a change. There's something new going around called Carryoki.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I said, what a walker? They said, karaoke and it's
- 20:32Speaker 3: a lot cheaper than a band. We're going to give
- 20:35Speaker 3: that a shot for a while. And I said, but
- 20:37Speaker 3: what about my bills? I learned that nobody care about
- 20:40Speaker 3: your bills but you and the people you owe.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Am I right about it? I want to ask it?
- 20:45Speaker 2: And so I said, what am I going to do?
- 20:47Speaker 3: A friend of mine gave me a cassette tape with
- 20:51Speaker 3: a motivational messages and a book. The book was called
- 20:55Speaker 3: Think and Grow Rich. I never heard a motivational tape.
- 20:58Speaker 3: I never heard of motivation message. I never read a
- 21:01Speaker 3: book from cover to cover. Because see Rashwan, I was
- 21:04Speaker 3: half of the class in high school that made the
- 21:06Speaker 3: top half possible, okay, And so I read the book
- 21:13Speaker 3: and there's a premise in the book that says, wherever
- 21:15Speaker 3: there's an adversity, at that same place as a seed
- 21:19Speaker 3: for great opportunity. And I said, okay, where's my opportunity.
- 21:23Speaker 3: The opportunity was working for the school system as a
- 21:25Speaker 3: drug prevention coordinator. I got this job talking to little kids,
- 21:29Speaker 3: little kids about stand away from drugs. From the little kids,
- 21:32Speaker 3: the teachers would say, oh, we want you to teach,
- 21:34Speaker 3: Come talk for our group. And then someone there would say,
- 21:37Speaker 3: can you come to my church? And someone in the
- 21:39Speaker 3: church would say, can you come to my company? And
- 21:40Speaker 3: then Les Brown heard about this guy who was a
- 21:43Speaker 3: speaker who could also sing, and he was looking for
- 21:46Speaker 3: an opening act for his music and motivation Dream Team tour,
- 21:50Speaker 3: and he invited me to be an opening act. The
- 21:52Speaker 3: tour was Les Brown, Billy Preston, the great organist, Gladys Knight,
- 21:57Speaker 3: and a little guy from DC Me. Because I was
- 22:00Speaker 3: a lesson Gladys they introduced me to radio people and
- 22:03Speaker 3: I got a little radio show. It got syndicated. You
- 22:06Speaker 3: can now hear me across America every morning on Get
- 22:09Speaker 3: Up Mornings with Erica Campbell on the Praise Network and
- 22:13Speaker 3: as the eight twenty Every Morning. That led to XM,
- 22:16Speaker 3: where I now have been on for twenty years, have
- 22:19Speaker 3: the number one self help to Grow Your Wealth show
- 22:21Speaker 3: in America. And then that led to a book publisher
- 22:25Speaker 3: calling and saying, I like your ideas. Have you ever
- 22:28Speaker 3: thought about writing a book? I said no, I never
- 22:30Speaker 3: thought about it. He said, let me make you an offer.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I said, I just thought about it.
- 22:37Speaker 3: I wrote a book called It Only Takes a Minute
- 22:39Speaker 3: Change of Life, came a national bestseller. Then a Setback
- 22:42Speaker 3: Is a setup for Comeback, became a global bestseller, then
- 22:45Speaker 3: turned setbacks into green backs, then an Attitude of Excellence,
- 22:49Speaker 3: then Chicken Soup for the soul, and then make Love,
- 22:52Speaker 3: Make Money.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Make it last.
- 22:53Speaker 3: The book I wrote with my wife. We've been married
- 22:55Speaker 3: forty years, We've been on your show.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Here, I'll go bring it up. I know you were,
- 23:01Speaker 2: I know you were. That's right. It was a right,
- 23:06Speaker 2: that was ADZ. That's right.
- 23:08Speaker 3: And we haven't had an argument in thirty eight years
- 23:10Speaker 3: now that we wanted today show. They said you never
- 23:12Speaker 3: had an argument. I said no, I didn't say that.
- 23:14Speaker 3: I said, we haven't had an argument in thirty eight years.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Those first couple of years were like World War Three,
- 23:18Speaker 3: but we learned how to not argue. We put it
- 23:21Speaker 3: in a book and we also put it on our
- 23:23Speaker 3: ted talk. You can get that at Jollymarriage dot com.
- 23:26Speaker 3: And then in nineteen ninety nine, I was named one
- 23:29Speaker 3: of the top five speakers in the world by Toast
- 23:31Speaker 3: Masters two thousand and five, Inducted in the Speaker Hall
- 23:33Speaker 3: of Fame in twenty thirteen, named the Top five Leadership
- 23:37Speaker 3: Speaker in twenty seventeen, a legend of the speaking industry,
- 23:41Speaker 3: and in twenty twenty three, I got the highest award
- 23:43Speaker 3: in the speaking industry, the Cavot Award, which is like
- 23:46Speaker 3: the Heisman, and I'm the first African American man to
- 23:49Speaker 3: get that award.
- 23:50Speaker 2: And here's the lesson I say to everybody.
- 23:53Speaker 3: I failed, I've messed up, I've had setbacks, but I
- 23:59Speaker 3: want to aim courage everybody who's listening that your setback
- 24:03Speaker 3: is not the end of the story, is not the
- 24:05Speaker 3: end of the road unless you choose it to be.
- 24:07Speaker 3: A setback is a set up for a comeback. And
- 24:09Speaker 3: I'm saying to each and every one of you, listen carefully, folks,
- 24:13Speaker 3: that a setback is a setup for your greater comeback.
- 24:16Speaker 3: You just have to have the mindset so that answers
- 24:19Speaker 3: your question, Rashan, that it is about making a decision
- 24:25Speaker 3: and not let stuff stop you and not get down
- 24:28Speaker 3: in the dumps. And you and I both know we've
- 24:30Speaker 3: both been through some tough moments.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Absolutely we refuse to give up, and that's why we're
- 24:36Speaker 2: here today.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Finally, you know, as we wrap up this conversation, Willie Jolly,
- 24:40Speaker 1: if someone listening or watching can take one message from
- 24:44Speaker 1: riches good, wealthy is better, what would you want it
- 24:48Speaker 1: to be?
- 24:48Speaker 3: The main message I wanted to be is that you
- 24:52Speaker 3: are able to transform your life no matter what your age,
- 24:56Speaker 3: no matter what your income. I interviewed a guy the
- 24:59Speaker 3: other day, Reggie Irby, who was a drug dealer and
- 25:03Speaker 3: a drug addict in West Philadelphia. He was able to
- 25:08Speaker 3: get into the service. He went in the Navy, He
- 25:12Speaker 3: served his time in the Navy, came out and worked
- 25:14Speaker 3: for the fire department. He retired from the fire department,
- 25:18Speaker 3: and then he got another job. He retired from the
- 25:20Speaker 3: second job. And when he retired the second time, since
- 25:22Speaker 3: he already had a retirement from the fire department, they
- 25:25Speaker 3: gave him a pool of money twelve thousand dollars, and
- 25:28Speaker 3: he said, well, I could go on a what you
- 25:30Speaker 3: said earlier, I could go buy a car, or I
- 25:32Speaker 3: could go on a trip, or I could do a
- 25:35Speaker 3: lot with that money. But he decided to invest the
- 25:37Speaker 3: money at sixty five in the stock market, and he
- 25:41Speaker 3: just kept putting a little bit in every month. He's
- 25:45Speaker 3: now seventy two, and he said, I now have a
- 25:49Speaker 3: portfolio of eight hundred and ninety thousand dollars. What my
- 25:54Speaker 3: message for people is never too late to start. And
- 25:57Speaker 3: as long as you start, Look, when is the best
- 26:00Speaker 3: time to plan a tree that takes eighty years to
- 26:03Speaker 3: grow eighty years ago?
- 26:05Speaker 2: When's the second best time today? Do it now? Go
- 26:08Speaker 2: to riches. Good wealthy is better. Get the book.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Get it for all your children, your grandchildren, people in
- 26:14Speaker 3: your family. We're going to change this wealth gap that
- 26:18Speaker 3: we have in opportunity by information, and that's my job.
- 26:22Speaker 3: I want to thank my friend Rushan. Now did you
- 26:24Speaker 3: hear the shout out I gave you on the radio
- 26:26Speaker 3: a couple of weeks.
- 26:26Speaker 2: You make me laugh all the time I go because
- 26:31Speaker 2: you know, I don't want it. I just love being
- 26:34Speaker 2: a background voice, Oh man, you and I felt grateful
- 26:38Speaker 2: for you. Man, I am so grateful for you and
- 26:41Speaker 2: your friendship.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Over the years. How you've been in my corner and
- 26:45Speaker 3: I just want to thank you.
- 26:46Speaker 2: We're good.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Rich is good, Wealthy is better than one and only
- 26:49Speaker 1: doctor Willie Jolly. And when I come back and interview
- 26:51Speaker 1: him again, I got a brigage wife because you do
- 26:54Speaker 1: this story from his house.
- 26:58Speaker 2: The kitchen was in the back. She's wonderful.
- 27:01Speaker 1: She's just as gracious as he is in providing information
- 27:04Speaker 1: that will help you win.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Thank you, doctor Willi Johley coming and folks, thank you
- 27:09Speaker 2: and everybody.
