- 0:00Acts chapter 2. When the day of Pentecost had
- 0:03come, they were all together in one place, and suddenly there
- 0:06came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it
- 0:09filled the whole house where they were sitting.
- 0:11And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributing
- 0:13themselves, and they rested on each one of them, and they were
- 0:16all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other
- 0:18tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.
- 0:21Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every
- 0:24nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred,
- 0:26the crowd came together and were bewildered, because each one of
- 0:29them was hearing them speak in his own language.
- 0:32They were amazed and astonished, saying, Why are not all these
- 0:35who were speaking Galileans? And how is it that we each hear
- 0:38them in our own language to which we were born?
- 0:41Parthians and Medes and Elamites, residents of
- 0:43Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
- 0:47Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and all the districts of Libya and
- 0:50Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
- 0:54Cretans and Arabs, We hear them in our own tongues Speaking of
- 0:57the mighty deeds of God. But they all continued in
- 1:00amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, What does
- 1:03this mean? But others were mocking and
- 1:05saying, They are full of sweet wine.
- 1:07But Peter, taking his stand of the 11, raised his voice and
- 1:10declared to them, Men of Judea, and all who live in Jerusalem,
- 1:13let this be known to you, and give heed to my words.
- 1:16For these men are not drunk as you suppose, for it is only the
- 1:19third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken of
- 1:21through the prophet Joel. And it shall be in the last
- 1:24days. God says that I will pour forth
- 1:26of my Spirit on all mankind, and your sons and your daughters
- 1:29shall prophecy, and your young men shall see visions, and your
- 1:32old men shall dream dreams. Even on My bond.
- 1:35Slaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of
- 1:38My Spirit, and they shall prophecy, and I will grant
- 1:41wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth below, blood
- 1:45and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun will be turned Into
- 1:49Darkness and the moon into blood, before the great and
- 1:51glorious day of the Lord shall come.
- 1:53And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the
- 1:55Lord will be saved. Men of Israel, listen to these
- 1:59words. Jesus the Nazarene, a man
- 2:01attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs
- 2:04which God performed through him in your midst, just as you
- 2:07yourselves know this man, delivered over by the
- 2:10predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you
- 2:12kneeled to a cross by the hands of godless men and put him to
- 2:15death. But God raised him up again,
- 2:17putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible
- 2:20for him to be held in its power. For David says of him, I saw the
- 2:24Lord always in my presence, for He is at my right hand, so that
- 2:27I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart was glad and
- 2:30my tongue exalted. Moreover, my flesh also will
- 2:33live in hope, because you will not abandon my soul to Hades,
- 2:37nor allow your Holy 1 to undergo decay.
- 2:39You have made known to me the ways of life.
- 2:42You will make me full of gladness with your presence.
- 2:44Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch
- 2:47David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us
- 2:50to this day. And so, because he was a prophet
- 2:53and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of
- 2:56his descendants on his throne, he looked ahead and spoke of the
- 2:59resurrection of the Christ, that he was neither abandoned to
- 3:01Hades nor did his flesh suffer decay.
- 3:04This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.
- 3:08Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of God, and
- 3:11having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit,
- 3:14he has poured forth this which you both see and hear.
- 3:17For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he
- 3:20himself says, the Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand,
- 3:23until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.
- 3:26Therefore let all the House of Israel know for certain that God
- 3:30has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you
- 3:33crucified. Now when they heard this, they
- 3:35were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of
- 3:37the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?
- 3:40Peter said to them, Repent, and each of you be baptized in the
- 3:43name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and
- 3:47you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- 3:49For this promise is for you and your children, and for all who
- 3:52are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.
- 3:56And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on
- 3:59exhorting them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation.
- 4:03So then those who had received His word were baptized, and that
- 4:06day they were added about 3000 souls.
- 4:09They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles
- 4:11teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to
- 4:13prayer. Everyone kept feeling a sense of
- 4:16awe, and many wonders and signs were taking place through the
- 4:18apostles and all those who had believed were together and had
- 4:22all things in common. And they began selling their
- 4:24property and possessions and were sharing them with all as
- 4:27anyone might have need, day by day, continuing with one mind in
- 4:30the temple and breaking bread from house to house.
- 4:33They were taking their meals together with gladness and
- 4:35sincerity of heart, praising God and having favour with all the
- 4:39people. And the Lord was adding to their
- 4:41number day by day, those who were being saved.
