- 0:00Acts Chapter 11. Now the apostles and the
- 0:02brethren who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles
- 0:05also had received the word of God.
- 0:06And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those who were
- 0:08circumcised took issue with him, saying, You went to
- 0:11uncircumcised men and ate with them.
- 0:13But Peter began speaking and proceeded to explain that to
- 0:16them in orderly sequence, saying, I was in the city of
- 0:18Joppa praying and in a trance I saw a vision, an object coming
- 0:22down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from the sky,
- 0:25and it came right down to me. And when I had fixed my gaze on
- 0:28it and was observing it, I saw the four footed animals of the
- 0:31earth, and the wild beasts, and the crawling creatures, and the
- 0:34birds of the air. I also heard a voice saying to
- 0:36me, Get up, Peter, kill and eat. But I said, by no means, Lord,
- 0:40for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.
- 0:43But a voice from heaven answered a second time.
- 0:46What God has cleansed no longer consider unholy.
- 0:49This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up
- 0:52into the sky. And behold, at that moment three
- 0:54men appeared at the house in which we were staying, having
- 0:57been sent to me from Caesarea. The Spirit told me to go with
- 1:00them without misgivings. These six brethren also went
- 1:03with me, and we entered the man's house.
- 1:06And he reported to us how he had seen the Angel standing in his
- 1:08house and saying, Send to Joppa, and have Simon, who is also
- 1:12called Peter, brought here, and he will speak words to you, by
- 1:15which you will be saved, you and all your household.
- 1:17And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just
- 1:20as he did upon us at the beginning.
- 1:22And I remember the word of the Lord, how he used to say, John
- 1:25baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy
- 1:27Spirit. Therefore, if God gave to them
- 1:30the same gift as He gave to us also, after believing in the
- 1:33Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?
- 1:37When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God,
- 1:39saying, well then God has granted to the Gentiles also the
- 1:43repentance that leads to life. So then those who were scattered
- 1:47because of the persecution that occurred in connection with
- 1:49Stephen made their way to Phoenicia and Cyprus and
- 1:52Antioch, speaking the word to no one except the Jews alone.
- 1:55But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who came
- 1:58to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, preaching the
- 2:01Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was
- 2:04with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.
- 2:07The news about them reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem,
- 2:10and they sent Barnabas off to Antioch.
- 2:13Then when he arrived and witnessed the grace of God, he
- 2:15rejoiced, and began to encourage them all with resolute heart to
- 2:18remain true to the Lord, for he was a good man, and full of the
- 2:21Holy Spirit and of faith. And considerable numbers were
- 2:24brought to the Lord. And he left for Tarsus to look
- 2:27for Saul. And when he had found him, he
- 2:29brought him to Antioch. And for an entire year they met
- 2:32with the church and taught considerable numbers.
- 2:35And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
- 2:38Now at this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to
- 2:40Antioch. One of them, named Agabus, stood
- 2:43up and began to indicate by the Spirit that there would
- 2:45certainly be a great famine all over the world.
- 2:48And this took place in the reign of Claudius.
- 2:50And in the proportion that any of the disciples had means, each
- 2:53of them determined to send a contribution for the relief of
- 2:56the brethren living in Judea. And this they did, sending it in
- 2:59charge of Barnabas and Saul to the elders.
