- 0:00The B -Side and Boxing. B -Side shit. B -Side.
- 0:04B -Side. And the B -Side. You got a B -Side.
- 0:06The B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. The B
- 0:10-Side thing. This is the B -Sides Boxing Podcast.
- 0:20Alright, let's fucking boogie. Boxing B -Sides.
- 0:25We are here to talk the fights. I'm joined by
- 0:28the one and only Saul. T -Bone Saul. T -Bone
- 0:32Steak Saul. What's up, guys? Welcome back to
- 0:34the Boxing Beast. I was happy to be back again
- 0:36after a great week of boxing. And Josh, welcome.
- 0:43Oh, yeah. This is a good couple weeks of news
- 0:47and box. Oh, as we often do, extending the hand
- 0:55of friendship to our fellows over at the Ultimate
- 0:57F in Casuals, I wanted to bring up from February
- 1:0013th, won Fight Night 40. This was a mixed event.
- 1:07They had MMA fights, kickboxing, and Muay Thai.
- 1:10The one that stood out the most, Nico Carrillo
- 1:14beating Shadow. That's the guy's name. The name
- 1:18is Shadow? Yes. The Thai people have some funky
- 1:22names. Interesting. Shadow got fucking murked
- 1:29at the end of what was a very, very entertaining
- 1:33fight. On the MMA side of the house, this is
- 1:38my current fight of the year. It's extremely
- 1:44good. I would recommend to anyone. There's no
- 1:47grappling, no wrestling, nothing like that. No,
- 1:50one is always a good watch. Yeah. This is a really
- 1:53good fight. No grappling, no wrestling. Yep.
- 1:57I wonder what that sounds like, huh? That's why
- 2:00they're here in the first place. They're not
- 2:01listening to the MMA podcast. Well, Muay Thai,
- 2:05I think, is a good... If you wanted to dip your
- 2:10toe in the rest of the limbs being used for the
- 2:14fight, I think Muay Thai is a good place to start.
- 2:19But, yeah, if you want to hear more of that ultimate
- 2:22effing casuals, wherever you're listening to
- 2:24this, you can hear that as well. In the boxing
- 2:30world, the old king has dusted off his crown,
- 2:37shaken up. He broke Mayweather. He has shaken
- 2:42up the sporting world. Floyd. No Money Mayweather
- 2:47has stepped out of retirement. He has two things
- 2:53coming up. In April, he has an exhibition with
- 2:56Mike Tyson. And then in September, he has a rematch
- 3:02professional fight against Manny Pacquiao. I
- 3:08was pretty happy with not having to hear their
- 3:14names anymore. Mario Barrios is to blame. Straight
- 3:20up. I can't, like, straight up blame Mario Barrios
- 3:24for this shit. And we'll get to wide later on.
- 3:27Yeah. Are we going to talk about who's going
- 3:29to win? I got an interesting take. Go for it.
- 3:34I think Manny might win the rematch. What makes
- 3:37you say that? If it's, and this is clearly speaking
- 3:40on if it's actually a real fight, you know. that
- 3:44they're not just going to go easy on each other.
- 3:45You know what I mean? Manny doesn't go easy on
- 3:47these exhibitions. He actually, like, if you
- 3:49watch his exhibitions, like, they're not boring.
- 3:54He's just washed. But he does not take it easy
- 3:57on the guys. The thing with Mayweather is that
- 3:59he might just think of it as, like, you know,
- 4:01in Rocky, he doesn't know it's a show. He thinks
- 4:05it's a damn fight, you know? So, you never know.
- 4:07I think Manny might sound silly, but he's had
- 4:10more experience. in higher level fights in the
- 4:14last, what, five years? Nine years since he retired.
- 4:19Yeah, since Mayweather retired. And Mayweather's
- 4:23last fight was against, Mayweather's last real
- 4:26fight was against Andre Berto. You know? So,
- 4:30we gotta see how that's gonna turn out for Mayweather,
- 4:34but honestly, if it's how I'm thinking it's gonna
- 4:37go, I might just go to Manny because he's gotten
- 4:38more work in. Or maybe I'm just fucking silly
- 4:42as hell. Do we think the WBC sticks a trinket
- 4:47belt on this so it can go 12? Of course they
- 4:52do. Yeah. That's the real question, I guess.
- 4:57Also, are we doing the Trap House in Vegas for
- 5:01this one? Damn, that's a good question. No, I'm
- 5:04good off that one. Yeah, I'm not sure if I want
- 5:07this to be the one. It might not be worth it.
- 5:11I think that for a certain period of time in
- 5:17the beginning, in the opening rounds, there is
- 5:19going to be a time frame where Mayweather's going
- 5:22to have the realization that Pacquiao's taking
- 5:25this seriously. The thing is, though, I don't
- 5:29think that Floyd Mayweather came out of retirement
- 5:32to sell his zero. I don't think that's what he's
- 5:37doing. No. Well, he came back with money for
- 5:40sure. Well, no shit. No doubt. Absolutely, it's
- 5:43about money. But I don't think he's selling at
- 5:46zero yet. Honestly, and I don't want to sound
- 5:48crazy, but if you really wanted money, yeah,
- 5:51you can make money fighting Manny. But if you
- 5:53want to make serious, serious money, fight Terrence
- 5:55Crawford. Fight Terrence Crawford and have that
- 6:00be a super fight. The best of this generation
- 6:02versus the best of last generation. That undoubtedly
- 6:06sells, you know? I mean, there's motherfuckers
- 6:09about Mayweather versus Gotti, right? There's
- 6:13motherfuckers about Mayweather versus Paul, you
- 6:15know? I mean, seriously, people will watch that
- 6:18shit. To watch Terrence Crawford come out of
- 6:20retirement, watch fucking Floyd come out of retirement
- 6:23and fight. I mean, come on, y 'all wouldn't watch
- 6:26that? But in this case, it would be Mayweather
- 6:31coming out of retirement to lose. Which is why
- 6:35I don't think he would ever do that. You never
- 6:37know. His entire image is built on being undefeated.
- 6:41Yeah, but I mean, money... True. At this point,
- 6:46if he needs it bad enough, it won't... He might
- 6:49suck a dick for money, okay? That's kind of where
- 6:52he's getting at right now. The zero he's selling
- 6:56is his... He's smiling like a zero. Oh, yeah.
- 7:01Jeez. But yeah, Mayweather's coming out of retirement.
- 7:08He's facing Manny Pacquiao in September. Has
- 7:11Mike Tyson exhibition in April. Mike Tyson exhibition
- 7:16is going to be so funny, conceptually. That's
- 7:20going to be silly. It's just going to be Mayweather
- 7:22jabbing as he dances around him. Well, yes. It's
- 7:27going to be hilarious. I would love to watch
- 7:29that one. uh shinata put it as uh leave mike
- 7:33alone he's probably the one that wanted to do
- 7:36it in the first place yeah i was gonna say like
- 7:38maybe i just need an opponent and like yeah because
- 7:41there was that uh the talk of that kickboxing
- 7:44guy as well oh what's his face no but that doesn't
- 7:51matter but it's gonna be hilarious like literally
- 7:56just we're doing the old man circuit on netflix
- 7:58just for fun it sells i'm gonna be honest this
- 8:04might sell more than any other fight in 2025
- 8:07or 2026 other than maybe ag fury i i really want
- 8:13these dudes to go away man like we were just
- 8:15starting to rebuild just had an era yeah yeah
- 8:18we were just starting to rebuild out of that
- 8:21fucking like if you're not undefeated you're
- 8:24a bum Type of mentality. And then this motherfucker
- 8:28has to come back. And reinsert himself. Into
- 8:31the conversation. Honestly. Honestly. I'm just
- 8:37going to say right now. I'm just going to say
- 8:38right now. If Mayweather comes back. And fights
- 8:43Mike. Fights Manny. How much do you think he's
- 8:47going to fight. For a real title. And it might
- 8:51not even be someone against someone good. It
- 8:53might be someone like Lewis Crocker. That's true.
- 8:54He could be the 147. Yeah, I was going to say
- 8:56147 is kind of made of paper right now. Exactly.
- 9:02You have Rowley and Crocker as champions in the
- 9:04same division. Oh, you might even get, this might
- 9:07sound crazy, but you might even get a Canelo
- 9:08rematch. Okay. That'd be hilarious. Depending
- 9:12on how Floyd looks too, Canelo might be the more
- 9:16washed one. Which is, like, hilarious. It's hilarious
- 9:20to think about, but I'm right. What, Floyd's
- 9:2347? Canelo might be more cooked. Just because,
- 9:29like, Floyd stayed, like, hands aside, he stayed
- 9:31pretty healthy his whole career. Even in retirement,
- 9:33yeah, he put on a bit of weight, but he still
- 9:35stayed active. Whereas, like, Canelo, we've seen
- 9:38the decline in real time and the injuries pile
- 9:41up. It's not unrealistic to say that one guy
- 9:46might be more washed just because you got to
- 9:50remember Canelo has been a pro since he was 15.
- 9:52The miles on the clock are crazy. Floyd really
- 9:54like Miguel Cotto, Mosley, Castillo, maybe Maidana
- 10:00were like the only four like tough nights out
- 10:03and they weren't even like. Delahoya -ish. For
- 10:08the first, like, these are fights he didn't take
- 10:10particular punishment in. Like, he just got hit
- 10:13like a normal boxer, pretty much. I mean, you're
- 10:17forgetting about Drunken Master's night, too.
- 10:19I'll tell you that. That was a tough night. The
- 10:22night with the Drunken Master. But the point
- 10:25is that he has way less miles on the clock in
- 10:28terms of fighting. And let's say he gets, like...
- 10:33He's going to be worse, obviously. I'm not saying
- 10:35we're going to return to, like, prime Floyd,
- 10:37but I'm just saying Canelo might be more washed
- 10:39by the time the fight you're talking about happens.
- 10:44I mean, let me ask you this. How much do you
- 10:46think these fights sell? Not sell, but how much
- 10:49do you think... Mike's not going to sell shit.
- 10:51Mike's not going to sell shit, but... That's
- 10:54on Netflix, so it'll be free to watch, I guess,
- 10:58in a way. The sequel. is going to be... How many
- 11:05months is it? That's seven months to build it
- 11:08up. We shall see. Pacquiao has an exhibition
- 11:13coming up as well with Ruslan Provodnikov. 2013
- 11:19called. It would like it. It wants its CTE back.
- 11:24It would like its Super Fight back. Manny Pacquiao
- 11:28versus Ruslan Provodnikov. What the fuck is going
- 11:31on? Yeah, what are we doing at this point? Makes
- 11:36you wonder why they didn't fight in 2013. You
- 11:38know what? I was seeing on the Discord chat that
- 11:42we were talking about, like, what are, like,
- 11:432010's, like, undercard fights to do specifically
- 11:47for, um, like, Mayweather Pacquiao 2, and I was
- 11:52like, we could do, we could run Tim Bradley,
- 11:55Ruslan Prodnodnikov, and just Provodnikov, and
- 11:59just... Like, old man CTE special. You know?
- 12:04You know, we could get Shannon Briggs versus
- 12:07Roy Jones Jr., just to be silly. Like, what is
- 12:11the worst, what is, like, the most, like, washed
- 12:132010s matchup we can do for that undercard? Marcos
- 12:19Maidana versus Adrian Broner again. Again, but
- 12:27at heavyweight. Sergio Martinez. No, no. Marcos
- 12:31Maidana, Broner, too, but at heavyweight. They
- 12:34can just show up fat as shit. No, Adrian Broner
- 12:38versus Rios. Reynon Rios. That is some serious...
- 12:46This is some brutal shit, dude. Yeah. Like, another
- 12:51pizza's getting thrown at one of them. Like,
- 12:54uh... What is it? When Victor Ortiz lost that...
- 12:59What was it? Second? Yeah. Lost the second...
- 13:03Lost this rematch with Andre Berto. I was thinking
- 13:08of... Remember the fan threw the pizza at his
- 13:11face. I think it was Chavez Jr. versus Danny
- 13:15Jacobs. Oh, yeah. The slushie. Yeah. He got a
- 13:20drink thrown at him. Yeah. And a shoe. And a
- 13:25shoe. The George Bush special with the shoe.
- 13:33Is this a Saudi influence card or is this purely
- 13:37just TMT? I'm thinking it's TMT. I haven't heard
- 13:43of the Saudis really being involved with this
- 13:45one. I haven't yet. Maybe the Israeli government.
- 13:52Considering how... The Israeli government. You
- 13:55guys saw how Mayweather was sitting in front
- 13:57of a whole conference and said, I give my heart
- 14:03out to Israel. That's how you know a bro's broke,
- 14:07too. Young, hungry lion. That's true. If he's
- 14:11not making money from the Israeli farming, from
- 14:14Israeli lordping, I don't know. That's how you
- 14:16know he's broke. You're right. It's a young,
- 14:20hungry nation. Take my hat off to him. Jesus
- 14:23Christ. Well, no, it's not a young hungry nation.
- 14:27It's been a nation promised for 3 ,000 years.
- 14:30Oh, 2 ,000 years. Of course, of course. Who can
- 14:33forget? Of course. By the way, I love Israel.
- 14:37Don't kill me. Oh, my God. All right. So out
- 14:42of the old man circuit of 2026, is this another...
- 14:50Is this quackery? Jaime Munguia turns down the
- 14:54fight against Resendiz and Jamal Charlo is likely
- 14:59the replacement. Hilarious fight to start the
- 15:04replacement. Yeah, I don't know what the career
- 15:09plan for Munguia is. Munguia is silly because
- 15:14he turned down a fight with Osles. He turned
- 15:16down a fight with Resendiz. I understand Oslies
- 15:19because that's a fight you will lose. Oslies
- 15:21is no risk. There's all risk, no reward. But
- 15:25Resendiz is. You should be able to beat Resendiz.
- 15:27It's a winnable fight, right? All reward, maybe
- 15:31no risk. Unless his management and camp know
- 15:36something we don't. His chin could just be cracked.
- 15:42But is Resendiz a hard puncher? No. Heavy -handed
- 15:47-ish. He got fucking knocked out by, what's his
- 15:49name? Elijah Garcia. Elijah Garcia. Elijah fucking
- 15:54Garcia. If they know something we don't, that's
- 16:00when you gotta think about it a bit. I'm not
- 16:04saying it's not ridiculous, but you know. I understand
- 16:09what you're saying. They know something that
- 16:11he might have something broken in his body now.
- 16:14Something might be up. He does have mileage.
- 16:19Yeah, he definitely has mileage. He's been in
- 16:21wars. He fought fucking Canelo. I mean, obviously,
- 16:24say what you want, but he fought Canelo. He was
- 16:27the first one to get... No, that wasn't Munguia's
- 16:33first knockdown, right? No, well, I think the
- 16:37Saras... He's taken a lot of punishment, and
- 16:42Saras... seems to just crack them. I don't know.
- 16:49Like, it's... It's funny. His team might know
- 16:54something we don't, for sure. A couple years
- 16:57ago, a fucking Munguia Munguia Benavidez wasn't
- 17:01even out of the question. Now, Munguia doesn't
- 17:05want to fight a fucking Resendiz? Are you kidding
- 17:07me? Yes. Again, I'm speaking about this from
- 17:10a mile away. But come on, dude. It's got to be.
- 17:15I'm not going to call him an easy fight, but
- 17:18it's easier than Osley's. Probably the easiest
- 17:21route you're going to become a champ in that
- 17:23division. For sure. But again, you're right.
- 17:27We don't know. Well, I'm wondering what the situation
- 17:34at super middleweight is. Because Munguia...
- 17:39He's turned down two title fights. Diego Pacheco
- 17:41turned down a title fight. And Hamza Shiraz is
- 17:46not exactly someone to be afraid of quite as
- 17:49much as Iglesias. But turning down Resendiz,
- 17:55dude, what the fuck is going on? Do you just
- 18:00not want to be a champion at this point? Who
- 18:02are you going to fight? What are you fighting
- 18:04for? What's the point? He's going to fight under
- 18:07Canelo, for sure. In September. But... I mean,
- 18:13come on. Come on. I mean, what kind of fucking...
- 18:17What path are you going to go down? What path
- 18:20are you going to go on? Yeah. I don't know who
- 18:26his manager is. Well, if he's still in the Reynoso
- 18:30camp, it might be Eddie. Could be. Could be a
- 18:36Canelo promotions fighter. managers not listed
- 18:40on box rec uh yeah disappointment um it was my
- 18:49my initial reaction and the one that has persisted
- 18:53throughout from when i first read about this
- 18:56has been if a world title is not what you're
- 19:00fighting for then what are you doing why are
- 19:03you why are you in the sport subjecting yourself
- 19:05to this punishment for what To go to fucking
- 19:10Zufa. I'm not saying that out of the question.
- 19:14He's probably going to go to Zufa in my opinion.
- 19:15That's what it's looking to be. He's a perfect
- 19:19Zufa fighter. Zufa's going to have some gross
- 19:22purses for some mid guys to start. Not even for
- 19:26some mid guys. For guys that are fucking will
- 19:30take a shit ton of punishment. You know? Yeah,
- 19:34I guess. That's what they're getting. They're
- 19:36getting guys who can't take punishment to build
- 19:38up their own fighters. I believe so. Get recognizable
- 19:41names to have their dudes beat them. Yeah, to
- 19:45build up their own guys to be recognizable names.
- 19:49I mean, you beat a Munguia, you beat a Valenzuela,
- 19:52you beat a damn Edwin de los Santos. I mean,
- 19:57come on. I mean, I'm not trying to say that they're
- 20:00all like shitters, but they're names, and if
- 20:04you beat them, you beat... You beat the guy that
- 20:06beat that, that fought Canelo. You beat, uh,
- 20:09the guy that beat Pitbull. You beat the guy that
- 20:12beat Ryo. You know? I mean, it legitimizes your,
- 20:17your own fighters. Yeah. And, well, the, something
- 20:22that MMA does get right is they don't put a lot
- 20:26of stock into being undefeated. So if you take
- 20:29a loss, like, it's fine. But. Yeah, you roll
- 20:33with it. Yeah, you just go on. You kind of expect
- 20:37the spectator to have seen the fight so that
- 20:42they know how bad of a loss was this really.
- 20:48But yeah, we'll see what Munguia does from here.
- 20:51And now we have Resendiz Charlo. Excellent. With
- 20:57like a month to go, is this the worst replacement?
- 21:02It's not a whole lot of Russians out there. That's
- 21:05a pretty good place for them, I mean. There's
- 21:07a bunch of good guys, and then we're still, like,
- 21:09reheating leftovers. Well, the thing is funny
- 21:14is that a lot of the top guys don't want to fight
- 21:16each other. I know. That's why it's like, okay,
- 21:18like, whatever, man. This past weekend was the
- 21:22first time I've ever heard Osley's name even
- 21:24mentioned. But, I mean, is Beck... Is Beck the
- 21:30Bully going to fight someone like Resendiz? Are
- 21:33they going to let fucking Ostley fight Pacheco?
- 21:37Is Pacheco going to fight Hamza Shiraz? No, they're
- 21:39not going to fight each other. They're all active.
- 21:41Not all of them, but a good chunk of them are
- 21:44actively avoiding each other, which is sad. I
- 21:47mean, hell, they gave Mbillie the title. They
- 21:50should have made Mbillie and Lester rematch.
- 21:52Yeah. But, you know, that's whatever. It's whatever.
- 21:56We'll see what happens with that division. It's
- 21:58going to be good, but they have to force it to
- 22:00be good. Yeah, there has to be a push to get
- 22:02these guys to face each other. Exactly. Moving
- 22:07to Golden Boy has announced a card. It is about
- 22:13as good as you can expect for where Golden Boy
- 22:16is currently at in their life cycle of a business.
- 22:24Let's see. We're starting with... Oscar Collazo
- 22:28is facing Jesus Haro. The many lovers of the
- 22:36world are all aflame. Oscar Collazo was supposed
- 22:41to be rematching Melvin Jerusalem. That was supposed
- 22:45to be a three title fight. But instead we get
- 22:49this. Apparently the Jerusalem camp. They had
- 22:55all purchased their plane tickets. They had their
- 22:58hotels lined up and everything. And then they
- 23:01got the rug pulled on them. They might be minimum
- 23:06weights, but that's still a pretty scummy move.
- 23:09Also on the card, Gabriela Fandora is fighting
- 23:13Viviana Ruiz. That should be a good time. And
- 23:18Arnold Barbosa versus Kenneth Sims. I'm gonna
- 23:24make a guess. I'm gonna tell you this right now,
- 23:26and you guys can agree or disagree with me. You
- 23:29don't even need Arnold Barboza on that card.
- 23:31They could beat their own two separate cards.
- 23:34You do the same thing they did last year, where
- 23:37they put Quiazzo and Nora on the same card, and
- 23:40then you get fucking Arnold Barboza on his own
- 23:43card. I think stacking a card like that is not
- 23:47what Golden Boy should be doing, especially in
- 23:48the state they're in. Oh, it's tough. to get
- 23:51venues and get tickets for those venues. Oscar
- 23:56does have good... He has good connections with,
- 23:59like, the California desert casino places. Yeah,
- 24:05he has a lot of places in California. Even Arizona.
- 24:08I'm not sure what spot they're in, but it might
- 24:09genuinely be easier to just pack talent on one
- 24:12card, make it a cheap investment, instead of
- 24:15risking it all on... A bunch of smaller cards.
- 24:21I believe they're fighting at Pachanga, right?
- 24:26Let me see. I'm going to be honest. Honda Center,
- 24:30Anaheim. Oh, they're fighting at Anaheim? Oh,
- 24:32shit. Maybe I'll go. But I'll tell you this,
- 24:36though. I'll tell you this. They should... I
- 24:39don't think Arnold Barboza should be the main
- 24:42event. I mean, I get it why they have him as
- 24:45the main event because he's an L .A. guy. That
- 24:48makes sense now because they put him in Anaheim
- 24:50and the L .A. guys are going to go watch him.
- 24:51Hell, I might go watch him. You know? Yeah. But,
- 24:56I mean, putting all three of them on a main card.
- 25:00Again, you could get Floyd Schofield and Arlo
- 25:02Barbosa on a single card. Also, Criazzo and the
- 25:05champion on another card. Two draws. Those are
- 25:08two cards that will inevitably bring money in.
- 25:11Didn't Gabby and Oscar do a card already? Yeah,
- 25:14I believe it did pretty decent. Oceanside? Was
- 25:17that the one? Yeah, it was Oceanside, yeah. Yeah,
- 25:21I remember that. I thought it was actually pretty
- 25:24goddamn cool of Oscar to have his top female
- 25:27fighter and then a minimum weight being the headlines.
- 25:32I feel like if they still had the Melbourne -Jerusalem
- 25:35fight too, they probably could have done that.
- 25:38Gabby's a fun fighter too. I sincerely believe
- 25:41that people will watch Gabby. People are starting
- 25:43to notice Gabby. She gets knockouts. Exactly.
- 25:47For as little attention the women's side of the
- 25:50sport gets, she's getting some recognition. That's
- 25:54an interesting way to put it, to have Arnold
- 25:57and Ken Sims be like your strong headliner, and
- 26:02then you can pack that with your developing talent,
- 26:05and then have two... weaker headliners, but if
- 26:11you have a double headliner type of situation,
- 26:15then you can kind of put your less developed
- 26:19talent there. I guess the question is also how
- 26:25many guys does Oscar have to fill out an undercard?
- 26:31That's what I mean. He might just be, like, borderline
- 26:34destitute on, like, undercard guys, and that's
- 26:37why he's got a packet on one card. I would say
- 26:41he's got a decent amount of young guys. Yeah,
- 26:43he did that card a few weeks ago that had, like,
- 26:47it was top -to -bottom golden boy guys. So a
- 26:51few weeks ago, and then you want him to turn
- 26:53around to March. Well, he still has other guys
- 26:57besides that. I think some of them could. Like,
- 27:00the six -round, eight -round guys probably could.
- 27:04For this one, yeah, but I'm saying if they did
- 27:06multiple, like, if you split this one up into,
- 27:08like, two or three cards, like, you probably
- 27:10wouldn't be able to fill it in. Oh, you could
- 27:12probably get Charles Conwell on there, too. Perhaps,
- 27:15actually. Has Charles Conwell been active since
- 27:18he lost? Since he lost in April of 25, he has
- 27:24not fought. Yeah, okay. He needs to fight. Yeah.
- 27:29Yeah, I was about to say, he needs to fucking
- 27:31fight. Build your shit back up. It's not like
- 27:34he lost embarrassingly either, right? It was
- 27:37a split decision. It was a really competitive
- 27:39fight. And it's something you can learn from.
- 27:43And if you learn and you improve and you make
- 27:46some noise, then, I mean, come on. He's not a
- 27:51bad fighter at all. He just needs... He could
- 27:55actually come back, you know? Yeah. Oh, shit.
- 27:58He lost on that Oceanside card we were talking
- 28:00about. Yeah. Yeah. What a wiener. Sorry, Charles.
- 28:08I'm just having a laugh. We do want to see you
- 28:13fight. Yeah, absolutely. Like, come on, bro.
- 28:15Like a single loss. That ain't shit. Lace him
- 28:20back up. You can do it. Don't go to Zufa, though.
- 28:25Yeah. Don't do it for Zufa. Of all the entities
- 28:30you could fight for, any but Zufa. Please. Moving
- 28:36to... Saul, I want to get your word on this one
- 28:39first. Okay. Janibek... has been suspended by
- 28:44the WBO for one year. This is retroactive to
- 28:48the date in December when he had the adverse
- 28:51PED finding. And after his suspension period
- 28:57is up, he has to fight the interim Titleist.
- 29:00But what's your gut here? What's your gut telling
- 29:04you on Janabek being quote -unquote suspended?
- 29:09My thought, my thought, my thought. Can you guys
- 29:11hear me, by the way? Yeah. Yes. Well, my thought
- 29:14is that he should have been stripped all the
- 29:16way. He should have been stripped of the W. And
- 29:20I don't even think he's stripped of the IBF,
- 29:22right? I don't think so. Yeah, no, he should
- 29:25have been stripped of both titles. And he should
- 29:27have at least had a fight before fighting for
- 29:31the title again. Give the interim champion the
- 29:33title. That's simply plain and simple. Why is
- 29:40he getting special treatment? I don't know. Maybe
- 29:44it's because he's a desolate. He's not a star.
- 29:49He's not a star to be given this kind of treatment.
- 29:52He's being given Canelo treatment without being
- 29:55Canelo. There was something funny when I was
- 30:00looking through this. This particular news bit
- 30:04on Twitter, it was, there was somebody, some
- 30:10random person said, how much did Janabek pay
- 30:13you guys to let him keep his title? And the president
- 30:17of the WBO replied saying, if you have any credible
- 30:22evidence of this, contact the FBI. Okay, so.
- 30:28They're just fucking stupid then. I took it more
- 30:34as, fuck you, prove it. Yeah, that's how I'm
- 30:39interpreting it, too, where I'm like, it's so
- 30:42obvious that he did it. Yeah, that's obviously
- 30:45what's happening, but we can't... Prove it. Yeah,
- 30:48we can't prove it. We don't have the internal
- 30:51access. Oh, yeah. Being suspended by the WBO...
- 30:58Doesn't fucking mean anything. I've seen, like,
- 31:01Adrian Broner got quote -unquote suspended by
- 31:04the WBC when he did the little Can -Man routine
- 31:08after a fight. Like, he just went to fight for
- 31:14the WBA instead. Yeah, like, this is ridiculous.
- 31:19He's still IBF champion. He could still make
- 31:21a unification happen. He could still fight for
- 31:23the IBF. And, yeah. I would have thought that
- 31:28the IBF would have been the first to strip him
- 31:31of his title. Do they have a mandatory lined
- 31:34up, or did he just... Let me see. He didn't just
- 31:39get it. He got the IBF fight two years ago. He
- 31:41could have fought an IBF mandatory. It was that
- 31:44bossy Russian dude, I think. No, that was a long
- 31:48time ago. Never mind. No, that was a while ago.
- 31:50Let me see. In Gamasengi, maybe? Was that WBO
- 31:55or? It could have been Mikhailovich, yeah, yeah.
- 32:03Let's see. Oh, yeah, he was a mandatory. Yeah,
- 32:09I think that fight was only for the IBF and the
- 32:12WBO. Yeah, it was only for the IBF. That was
- 32:14a mandatory, and that was in 2024, so they're
- 32:17late to stripping him. Hmm. Well. They're late.
- 32:22He's a boxer, not a stripper, so I guess not.
- 32:27It's... This shit is supposed to have consequences.
- 32:37There are supposed to be consequences for pissing
- 32:40hot. Jesus. Like, we're not even stripping guys
- 32:45of their titles anymore. Like, and letting them
- 32:48fight for them. We're just letting them keep
- 32:49the title. No pretense of even trying to punish
- 32:52them. Rare IBFL. Oh, I just think the IBF has...
- 32:59IBF's probably just looking at their... Let's
- 33:04look at the IBF rankings at 160. Just to see
- 33:08if they even have a guy who would be mandatory.
- 33:10Janabek is the best they can do. Well, let's
- 33:13see. Sometimes they just don't have it mandatory
- 33:15sorted, right? And that's why it takes longer.
- 33:17Oh, yeah. They got to do their specific eliminators.
- 33:21Yeah, they don't have a number one right now.
- 33:25Or a two? They have a two. Okay. It's an Italian
- 33:29named Etinosa Oleja. Vito Melnicki is ranked
- 33:35number 10. All right. I swear to fucking Christ.
- 33:43If Vito Melnicki becomes a champion for Virgil
- 33:46Ortiz, I'm going to blow my head off. Let's see.
- 33:49Here's Callum Walsh and Vito Melnicki are in
- 33:52the top 10 for the IBF. No, Callum Walsh ain't
- 33:56going to be fighting for that shit. Aaron McKenna,
- 33:58too. Ew. Really? Yeah. Yeah, that's how we bought
- 34:02it. We got Yonley Hernandez at 13. Amari Jones
- 34:08at seven. Like, that's what I mean. They have
- 34:10no mandatory right now. So, if they had a mandatory,
- 34:13they would have stripped Janet Beck yesterday.
- 34:15Yeah, Janet Beck yesterday. But, unfortunately,
- 34:21middleweight is actually tragic. Great analysis.
- 34:25That's a great analysis. I wouldn't have known
- 34:26that. Middleweight is tragic. Because the IBF,
- 34:29like, the only reason they don't strip guys for
- 34:31not defending as mandatories is when they don't
- 34:34have a mandatory. Because they have to set up
- 34:36their little, elimination tournaments or whatever.
- 34:39Yeah, the final eliminators, you gotta have like
- 34:41fucking five of them. Yeah, like you just gotta...
- 34:46Well, once there's a more populated weight classes,
- 34:51yeah, it goes pretty quick. The turnover is pretty
- 34:54damn fast. But it's middleweight in 2026, so...
- 35:00Absolutely dire. Like, this is... Vito Melnicki
- 35:07is top 10 in any weight class. You are certainly
- 35:13not doing well. Vito Melnicki, world champ before
- 35:19Virgil. Please. If that happens, I'm actually
- 35:28going to leave the pod. I'm going to leave a
- 35:30shame. I can't handle the calls that are coming
- 35:33in. Link the call number. The dunkers showing
- 35:40up to... Yeah, the dunkers showing up with that
- 35:45phone number. Yeah, I got it in a few seconds.
- 35:50Man, Janet Beck suspended for a year. Fucking
- 35:56slap on the wrist. Let's see here. AJ is starting
- 36:03to get back in the gym. It's not a full training
- 36:06camp. He's just starting to get himself back
- 36:09into a little bit of a routine. The idea is that
- 36:15if he continues to work out regularly, we can
- 36:23start talking about a camp and look at a return
- 36:26late July, early August. But given the circumstances...
- 36:35I cannot imagine losing your best friends who
- 36:42were also an integral part of your camp. I cannot
- 36:46imagine that going back to the gym is an easy
- 36:49thing to do right now. Oh, no, no. So, like,
- 36:55if AJ's done, I get it. It's fucking rough. I
- 37:03get it. Yeah, like, I can't judge him. Take your
- 37:08time, man. Yeah. If you want to come back, then
- 37:11come back. But if you don't, whatever, man. You
- 37:15have all the money in the world. You have all
- 37:18the accolades. Like, who fucking cares? Last
- 37:22thing. Matchroom Boxing signs a five -year extension
- 37:29with The Zone. Given the state that boxing is
- 37:35in right now, this is a really good sign, I think,
- 37:38that we have one of the major players on a steady,
- 37:42secure broadcast platform. I'm happy to see this.
- 37:46Until the 2030s, too. Next decade. Yep, I'm happy
- 37:50to see this. Yeah, you've kicked the problem
- 37:52down the line, which is good. Staying on the
- 37:57DAZN, though, kind of sucks, but, I mean, where
- 38:01the fuck else are you going to go to? Sky Sports?
- 38:04Where else is there to go? Paramount Plus, if
- 38:08you want to watch Sufen. And try and scam Netflix.
- 38:14For the one -off event that they decide to do.
- 38:17Yeah. Quick sidebar, honestly. Do you think it
- 38:23would be possible for boxing to even, besides
- 38:24these big events, right? Do you think it would
- 38:26be possible for these even smaller events to
- 38:29get into Netflix? Because I feel like these small
- 38:31events on Netflix would be... Amazing for boxing.
- 38:34You'd need a broadcasting deal that Netflix is
- 38:37not willing to put up because they care about
- 38:39immediate return instead of a steady return.
- 38:44I feel like they would be able to get immediate
- 38:46return with these type of deals. What would have
- 38:48to happen is you'd have to combine the stables
- 38:51of Matchroom, PBC, Queensberry. All of the major
- 38:58players would have to go in together. To be able
- 39:02to, at the very least, be able to offer their
- 39:05own development cards in a regular fashion. But
- 39:10also having crossover fights not be hindered
- 39:14by broadcast differences. That right there is
- 39:21the boxing utopia. Absolutely. You need people
- 39:25to work together. I'll tell you this. You get
- 39:28on Netflix. I know it sounds fucking like a fever
- 39:33dream. And I might just be sounding like the
- 39:34Saudis, okay? But you get all the boxing promoters
- 39:38together under one banner, like the HBO days,
- 39:40and you use the fucking... With your subscription,
- 39:45you get boxing free. Every week, you get a boxing
- 39:48fight. And it's a decent card every week. Every
- 39:50month, you have a big fight, non -pay -per -view,
- 39:52that tens of millions of people watch. They will
- 39:55love that shit, I feel like. I think that will
- 39:58bring boxing back to the forefront. You know,
- 40:01boxing on Netflix. Netflix, the home box office
- 40:06for boxing. There you go. I think that what platform
- 40:13you do this on isn't, I don't know if it's quite
- 40:17as material. Netflix does have the advantage
- 40:22of having the bigger built -in user base or subscription
- 40:26base. But if you were to have all of the major
- 40:30players signed to DAZN or Paramount +, what really
- 40:37matters is having all of the best fighters in
- 40:42one place that you can watch them on. Exactly.
- 40:48Who they're signed to, like what streamer they're
- 40:52signed to, doesn't really matter. Just as long
- 40:56as they're in one place. Just my take on it.
- 41:01I agree, but I think if they're not fighting
- 41:03at all, you know, if the big names are not fighting,
- 41:07which happened last decade, I mean, it's not
- 41:11worth a shit. DAZN pulled off that Matchroom
- 41:16-Queensbury 5 vs. 5, so it is possible. It is
- 41:21possible. With Saudi money. True. It does need
- 41:25the... And that's, I guess, where having Netflix
- 41:30in place as the platform. The facilitator. Yeah,
- 41:34they have the money to facilitate that. But you'd
- 41:39have to get someone with executive experience
- 41:42like Espinosa in place to be able to pitch that
- 41:48kind of thing. Because he can speak to the returns
- 41:53that Showtime Sports had. And they had pretty
- 41:58good returns, too. They did. For a while. For
- 42:01a while. All right. Anything more for Boxing
- 42:09and its broadcast woes? Not for the moment. All
- 42:16tapped out. All right. Let's see here. Just some
- 42:21notes. If you want to join us on Discord, it's

- 45:28slash mwb. All right. The review period is a
- 45:36little light, but we will march on. Starting
- 45:43first, Tuesday, February 10th. Salida promotions
- 45:47on DAZN. It was certainly a card. There was a
- 45:54card. There was certainly boxing happening. I
- 46:00was only tracking two fights here. Caroline Veyer
- 46:04gets the UD over Delphine Persoon to claim the
- 46:08WBC Super Featherweight title. Delphine, man,
- 46:13she was a... a major player in the women's ranks
- 46:18for quite some time. And it might be those, those
- 46:22days might be coming to an end. It's time to
- 46:25give it up. You're 41. You're a 41 year old super
- 46:29featherweight. Like it's not disrespectful. It's
- 46:34just. She had a good career. She had a great
- 46:36career. She had a good career. That's what I'm
- 46:37saying. It's not disrespectful. Like it's just,
- 46:39you're 41 and a super featherweight. It's time
- 46:43to. That's how it goes. Try to pack it in. Shanada
- 46:48tried to claim Caroline. She's from France and
- 46:54currently lives in Quebec. Do you claim her as
- 46:58another Canadian champion? Do we claim her as
- 47:05a Canadian champion? To what extent? What do
- 47:11we consider a Canadian champion? Do we consider
- 47:14Archer Beterbiev a Canadian champion? Is Nbili
- 47:20a Canadian champion? Nbili is, because he's been
- 47:24here most of his life, right? But Beterbiev,
- 47:27who just came over to avoid the embargo following
- 47:31the invasion of Ukraine. The sports embargo?
- 47:34Yeah. Yeah, do we count? Beterbiev. Hmm. BoxRick
- 47:46does not. I would say if Mbili is, then Caroline
- 47:52Byer is. Okay, yes. Then good. Yeah. Because
- 47:58they're in the exact same situation. French passport
- 48:02holders and they moved to French Canada. It's
- 48:07not for any reason other than a personal one
- 48:10rather than You're here because you wouldn't
- 48:13be able to compete for world titles if you were
- 48:15Russian. The way all the Russians, like on BoxRec,
- 48:18they opted to being Armenian somehow. Armenian,
- 48:22Chechnian, Canadian. Anything but Russian. Yeah,
- 48:28so that's how we... And, main event, Joshua Pagan
- 48:35gets the UD over Brian Jimenez. It was rough
- 48:40and tumble. Pagan is not very good, but this
- 48:45is like the best Salida has to offer. So make
- 48:49peace with it. Saturday, February 14th. If you're
- 48:56a fucking single loser like me, you are at home
- 49:00watching Dream Boxing on DAZN out of Germany.
- 49:06Why are we even talking about this card? Marco
- 49:10Hook. That Marco Hook, if you even remember who
- 49:14that is. He got a UD over Václav Pejsar. It was
- 49:22certainly a fight. Marco Hook looked his fucking
- 49:26age. Sunday, February 15th, we had two Muto promotions
- 49:35out of Osaka, Japan. There were a few fights
- 49:41on this one. Only one that we were really paying
- 49:44attention to. Ryosuke Nishida gets the unanimous
- 49:49technical decision in seven. It was stopped on
- 49:54a cut in the eighth over Brian Mercado. Yeah,
- 50:01Josh, we watched this one. We watched this one
- 50:02together. It was very entertaining. Oh, yeah.
- 50:05Good little scrap. I think the cut, the stoppage
- 50:11was a bit premature on the cut. Like, it was
- 50:13a big cut, but it wasn't like... It was manageable,
- 50:16right? It wasn't gushing. The corner was on top
- 50:19of it. It wasn't blocking his sight very much.
- 50:23Doctor probably saw how deep it was and got freaked
- 50:26out instead of actually looking at where it was.
- 50:30But, yeah. No, Nishida was definitely putting
- 50:34in some clean work. At first, it was Mercado,
- 50:39who was definitely putting on more pressure,
- 50:40but hitting a lot of gloves, elbows, wasn't clean.
- 50:46Yeah, he was that come -forward, swarmer kind
- 50:49of guy. Yeah. That was a good showing for Nishida,
- 50:52though. Nishida definitely looked good, and more
- 50:54importantly, didn't look rattled coming off of
- 50:59a pretty harsh loss to Junto Nakatani. Yeah,
- 51:04good to see that his arm's still working after
- 51:07that fucking dislocation. He's not rattled. It's
- 51:11good. Yeah. He can still be a player. And 122,
- 51:17if with Inoue Nakatani, it's set May 2nd at the
- 51:24Tokyo Dome. I'm expecting Inoue's going to pull
- 51:29this one out. We can talk about this another
- 51:32time, I suppose. Inoue's going to need opponents
- 51:35if he's going to stay at 122. So, Nishida's not
- 51:39a bad shot. Nope. Especially if he can do them
- 51:43better than Nakatani did. There's definitely...
- 51:50I mean, it's... 126 is definitely a bit more
- 51:53of a jump to move. The quality of opposition
- 51:58increases greatly when you step up to 26. Like,
- 52:02your mean opponent. Like, Nakatani's probably
- 52:04the best he'll face in his career. But, like,
- 52:08size -wise, the guys start getting big and good.
- 52:13Yeah. That's, like... Rafael Espinoza is 6 '1".
- 52:20Yeah, I was going to say, I know maybe I'm a
- 52:24little biased, but I think that the tougher fight
- 52:27at 126, all things notwithstanding, was never
- 52:32Nick Ball. It was Espinoza. Like, Espinoza is
- 52:37massive and good, which is... Like, it's usually...
- 52:44Anyways, the lead opponents have at least been...
- 52:47Anyways, opponents, like, his better names on
- 52:48his resume have been his size. Yeah, definitely.
- 52:53Espinoza is a very competent operator, but he's
- 52:57huge. Let's roll on. Last card. Zufa Boxing 3
- 53:09at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas. For how decision
- 53:15-heavy Zufa 2 was, Zufa 3 had a lot of stoppages.
- 53:20A lot of fun stuff. If you are an agnostic viewer,
- 53:27Zufa 3 was very entertaining. It was very enjoyable
- 53:32to watch, I must admit. But nonetheless, these
- 53:36guys are... You would find these guys on... Same
- 53:40type of dudes, same quality of fighter on a matchroom
- 53:45undercard or this... Queensberry card coming
- 53:49up. It's like stacked top to bottom with prospects.
- 53:53Regardless. I wanted to mention Leo Ruiz getting
- 53:58a stoppage in four just because we have the same
- 54:02name. That's really it. That's it? That was it.
- 54:07I don't have to write him a sternly worded letter
- 54:11saying you have to change your name. That's true.
- 54:14Because you're a fucking loser. Speaking of losers,
- 54:19the main event. Not yet. Abel Mejia was actually...
- 54:26Abel Mejia was getting pushed pretty heavily
- 54:29by the Zufa comms and all the promotional material.
- 54:34And Jabrio Pebenito just was not having it and
- 54:39decided to knock him the fuck out. It was really
- 54:42nice. That's good. Umar Dzambikov got a stoppage
- 54:49in two in the co -main and main event. Efe Adjogba
- 54:54stops Charles Martin in four. How in the hell
- 54:59were the betting odds as close as they were?
- 55:04This fight was hilarious. I can't lie. I gotta
- 55:09give it to Josh. I was wrong. I... I'm not sure.
- 55:15If we had done in Discord, if we did rolls for
- 55:18this one, there would have been a surprising
- 55:20amount of Charles Martin people. Well, it's just
- 55:23because Ajagba is also terrible. He's turbo ass.
- 55:27Yes. That's what I mean. Ajagba sucks, but you
- 55:30have to remember, Martin sucks, is washed up,
- 55:33and he really sucks. Long ass layoff. Long ass
- 55:40layoff. All the ingredients were there. I think
- 55:47people just continue memory -holing how he won
- 55:51his world title. When his power exploded a knee?
- 55:57Yeah, that's what I mean. People forget his world
- 56:00title reign lasting three months because his
- 56:06opponent went to his corner and then to the glue
- 56:09factory. We did get that legendary promotional
- 56:15line, Charles Martin sitting in front of AJ,
- 56:19and he says, I walk this earth like a god. And
- 56:23AJ just kind of chuckles like, that's some real
- 56:26champ shit. I like that. His world title really
- 56:29was an act of god, though. I'm serious. His opponent
- 56:36never fought again. That's how bad his leg exploded.
- 56:42it was pretty bad it was glass the worst part
- 56:45is glass was like actually beating his ass too
- 56:48like this was a hilarious like everyone just
- 56:53memory holds that they go like yeah like they
- 56:55they like yes he's the worst heavyweight champion
- 56:58of all time but people still say but he was a
- 57:00champion and that's how they convince themselves
- 57:02he'll show up and be good ever Man, we do need
- 57:11to start taking a second look at how many titles
- 57:16we have. If we have, like, Charles Martin. Fucking
- 57:21come on. Yeah, that's what I mean. Like, Fabio
- 57:23Wardley is even top two worst champs. Oh, shit.
- 57:29He's not. Fabio Wardley. Fabio Wardley is not
- 57:32the worst, like, is not the most, like, incompetent
- 57:35heavyweight champion, even though he's probably
- 57:37losing in his very first defense. Hey, hey, don't
- 57:42jinx it. Don't jinx it, dude. I don't care at
- 57:44this point. But I, come on, we, like, Baku suffered
- 57:49for years with John Ruiz living and breathing.
- 57:54But, like, man, like, especially, like, I saw,
- 57:59like, there was some consideration for him, like,
- 58:03giving it a go against Jared Anderson and winning
- 58:06a round, maybe. Yeah, he had moments. But, like,
- 58:13that speaks to Jared Anderson more than it does
- 58:17Charles Martin. Hey, Unc still had it in him
- 58:22at the time. Unc didn't have it in him ever.
- 58:26Hey, at the time they get around against Jared
- 58:27Anderson? Unc in his prime was out here getting
- 58:30dominated by Adam Kwanaki. Unc in his, not in
- 58:36his prime, got around for Jared Anderson. Oh,
- 58:39my God. Like... Top American prospect. Oh, my
- 58:47God. It's just... I don't get how... Like, Ajagba
- 58:50is... Ajagba is still turbo -ass, but... Come
- 58:56on, man. So, Ajagba in his... Like, in the post
- 59:04-fight presser, the post -fight conference...
- 59:07He's been going on a bit of a tirade with...
- 59:12I'm ranked in the top 10 for heavyweights everywhere.
- 59:17Everywhere that's relevant. And nobody wants
- 59:21to fight me. Yeah, dude. You sucked. You lost
- 59:26all the fights that you needed. You lost the
- 59:27fight that you needed to win and then fought
- 59:30nobody to put you in position to actually contend
- 59:35for a title. Because there's a difference between
- 59:38being ranked and being in contention. Daniel
- 59:41Dubois, despite losing, has fought his way to
- 59:45remain in contention. Yeah, you have to fight
- 59:49actual eliminators. If you're that upset about
- 59:51it, go up the IBF route and don't sign to Zufa.
- 59:57Yeah, don't expect an actual legitimate world
- 1:00:01title if you're going to be fighting for Zufa.
- 1:00:06Yeah, like, say what you will. Dubois lost to
- 1:00:10Usyk the first time and then put himself back
- 1:00:14in position by fighting for an IBF eliminator
- 1:00:18with Hergovich. And then killed AJ, and then,
- 1:00:24yeah, now, like, he's fought the actual fights
- 1:00:28that will put him in... the top of the rankings
- 1:00:31instead of just floating around the top 15 being
- 1:00:34like, why does no one want to fight me? It's
- 1:00:36tough. Fabio Wardley started off climbing up
- 1:00:41to, he got the British title Commonwealth, like
- 1:00:43that nonsense that they do over there. And he,
- 1:00:47he fought the fucking fights. He beat the shit
- 1:00:50out of Frazier Clark after having, he had a questionable
- 1:00:53performance against Frazier Clark, knocked him
- 1:00:56the ever loving fuck out in the rematch. And
- 1:01:00then he worked his way upward. Justice Hooney,
- 1:01:04Justice Parker. Justice Hooney, like all of the
- 1:01:07WBO. Those are solid fucking wins. Yeah. And
- 1:01:13it's not even, like, even if they weren't solid,
- 1:01:15the point is that he fought the opponents to
- 1:01:18get in position for a title shot. Or in this
- 1:01:22case, a title. He fought the guys he needed to.
- 1:01:25Imagine if he just... sat around complaining
- 1:01:27for a title shot after beating Clark the second
- 1:01:30time. Yeah, no one wants to fight me because
- 1:01:35I sparked out Frazier Clark. Yeah, and I'm going
- 1:01:39to sit on my WBO European title. That's not how
- 1:01:42it works. But I expect this is going to be the
- 1:01:48type of media posturing that we can see from
- 1:01:52the quote -unquote elite. That are coming or
- 1:01:57fighting in Zufa. Oh, yeah. Just a lot of chatter.
- 1:02:04Anything more for our recaps before we keep it
- 1:02:08rolling? I want to add something to news and
- 1:02:13something to actually Zufa 3. Where Dana White
- 1:02:17made a comment about how he was fighting babies.
- 1:02:20Oh, the other promoters. Yeah. Yeah. He's trying
- 1:02:24to posture the, I guess, the view of Zufa that
- 1:02:30they're taking over boxing. Obviously, they're
- 1:02:31trying to say that they're going to take over
- 1:02:33boxing, but that is easy when it's been completely
- 1:02:37just a road of fucking hassle. Shitters and nobodies,
- 1:02:42that's all he has. Yeah, shitters and nobodies.
- 1:02:44They're trying to make it look like they've got
- 1:02:46kings, but, I mean, these guys never made it
- 1:02:49on a main event, you know? Yeah. Because we're
- 1:02:51never stars. Ryo, man, that one still fucking
- 1:02:56baffles me. Like, dude, you had one setback against
- 1:03:00Anton Russell. Come on, dude. We'll talk about
- 1:03:06another guy soon. I don't know if it's going
- 1:03:07to be this week or next week, but we'll be talking
- 1:03:08about another guy. Yeah, we'll be talking about
- 1:03:10him next week. All right, a little bit of notes

- 1:06:30first. Friday, February 27th. ProBox TV in Arlington,
- 1:06:36Texas. there are as you would expect from a like
- 1:06:41prospect development series like pro box there
- 1:06:45are a fuck ton of fighters on this card um this
- 1:06:49is this is a if you are again if you're a single
- 1:06:52fucking loser like me this is a perfect use of
- 1:06:56your friday night um let's see names that i recognize
- 1:07:03i recognize renee taez Ruben Aguilar, that's
- 1:07:09in the main and co -main, respectively. Oh, I
- 1:07:13recognize Edward Vasquez. Javier Bocanegra. Some
- 1:07:21guys that have been coming up, they've been putting
- 1:07:25in the work. Speaking of Espinoza, Vasquez coming
- 1:07:29off of getting turned into ground beef by Espinoza
- 1:07:32last year. Hey, well, when you got to rehab your
- 1:07:36career, Probox is a lovely place to do it. Yeah,
- 1:07:38Probox is always there for you. Yep. Moving to
- 1:07:43Saturday, February 28th. First card first. Just
- 1:07:51a random insert. There's a Queensbury card on
- 1:07:53DAZN that this is the one that I had mentioned
- 1:07:57that's just full of prospects. So if you want
- 1:08:00to check that out, if you want some Brit slop,
- 1:08:02fucking get after it. Manny Pacquiao promotions
- 1:08:06on Amazon Prime out of Verona, New York. The
- 1:08:12headline, Elijah Pierce vs. Lorenzo Parra. Had
- 1:08:18to make sure to roll the R for that one. Do you
- 1:08:20guys think Elijah Pierce will be a notable name
- 1:08:24in the future? Maybe. He's climbed up the ladder.
- 1:08:33He's a bit of a project guy, but time's starting
- 1:08:36to run out on whether he reaches that kind of
- 1:08:42upper echelon of the sport. Just because, yeah,
- 1:08:48whatever, two early losses really don't matter
- 1:08:51at this point in your career. But it's time to
- 1:08:57start accelerating a little bit at age 29. Yeah,
- 1:09:03avoid Derek James at all costs. Avoid Derek James.
- 1:09:08Not a bad show. Womax got room in his camp. The
- 1:09:14two fighters that I really wanted to point out
- 1:09:18on this one, like the main event, whatever, I
- 1:09:21don't really care. But, Kermel Moten is fighting
- 1:09:26on this one against Wilfredo Flores. Now, I have
- 1:09:30not seen... any indication that this is true
- 1:09:33but there's a lot of talk that this is at welterweight
- 1:09:37is that like moten fights at 135 he's at welterweight
- 1:09:43now jesus what the fuck that's what i mean i
- 1:09:48said he'll make it to like 160 before fighting
- 1:09:50anyone jesus christ it says 147 your eyes are
- 1:09:55not deceiving you well There you have it. Carmel
- 1:09:58Moten. He's a growing boy. Yeah, he's 19, so,
- 1:10:03you know, DoorDash has good deals from time to
- 1:10:08time. The problem is he's 5 '4". Right, that's
- 1:10:12what I, like, he's small. He's like Gervonta
- 1:10:14Davis. Like, how the fuck are you that big? Especially
- 1:10:19as a teenager, like, you're in... camp, for fights?
- 1:10:24How is this possible? You gotta be on that Isaac
- 1:10:27diet. I'm starting to get nervous about Cormel
- 1:10:32Moten's career. I'm not gonna lie. The way he's
- 1:10:36being managed and the way he's been moved. He's
- 1:10:39disciplined. Yeah, I think honestly like he's
- 1:10:46still fighting. He'll get there eventually. It's
- 1:10:48just... Ooh, he's definitely looking more and
- 1:10:51more of a project guy than, like, a star prospect.
- 1:10:54He was one of those, like, five -star prospects
- 1:10:57that people were talking about. You've got to
- 1:11:00start thinking of putting the brakes on the hype
- 1:11:04and thinking of him as a project guy. Because,
- 1:11:07like, definitely, like, you know the MMA meme
- 1:11:10of, like, two years Dagestan? Two, three years,
- 1:11:13forget. Two, three years, Pro Box, forget. Yeah,
- 1:11:17that might be the move. Yeah, like, stick him
- 1:11:19on ProBox. Like, he's going to sink or swim.
- 1:11:23And honestly, like, he's a five -star prospect.
- 1:11:25He should swim. And they'll give him, like, they'll
- 1:11:28roll out the red carpet for him, too. Like, he's
- 1:11:30not going to be mistreated or, like, treated
- 1:11:33like some other, like, just another guy coming
- 1:11:36up. No, like, it's ProBox. And with the hype
- 1:11:40he has, ProBox could probably have him headline
- 1:11:42every time. Exactly. Exactly. Like, it'll be
- 1:11:46a good chunk of change. Like, you're not paying
- 1:11:48to fight bums. You're getting good work. Like,
- 1:11:52I presume part of the issue stems from the whole
- 1:11:56lack of broadcast networks. Because, like, with
- 1:12:02his profile, you kind of have to, you know. Yeah,
- 1:12:07he's not a PPC undercard guy. Yet. But he's basically
- 1:12:11paying, his team is paying for him to fight instead
- 1:12:15of the other way around. My thing is he's fighting
- 1:12:18as much as, well, last year he only fought twice.
- 1:12:22Yeah. He is not at that level. That's ridiculous
- 1:12:25for a prospect. Yeah, he's not. Get him on ProBox
- 1:12:27every three months for the next couple of years.
- 1:12:31Two, three years ProBox and forget it. Yeah,
- 1:12:34like, literally, even if he's not making that
- 1:12:36much money, like, I assume the opponents they
- 1:12:39have to bring in, they're going to ask for extra
- 1:12:42just because of the level of prospect that he
- 1:12:43is. Oh, yeah, you're bringing me on to get schooled
- 1:12:47by Moten. I want better than the regular pay.
- 1:12:51I want better than $1 ,000. I mean, Kermel's
- 1:12:54not fighting on his own card, though, right?
- 1:12:56He's fighting Manny Pacquiao. No, no, but that
- 1:12:58makes it worse. It's still Kermel. Wait, you
- 1:13:02said he was fighting on the what card? Manny
- 1:13:03Pacquiao promotions? Yeah. Which is interesting,
- 1:13:07in my opinion, because... I mean, come on. Manny
- 1:13:10Pacquiao promotions... It's not really... I know.
- 1:13:15It's probably going to have such a little return
- 1:13:18that you're going to have to pay for him to...
- 1:13:20You have to pay for him and his opponent. And
- 1:13:24I think the pay cut being on Pro Box at least
- 1:13:27ensures you get consistent fights. You guys could
- 1:13:31disagree with me with this. I don't care. His
- 1:13:34best bet should be top rank. That would be a
- 1:13:38great avenue to go to. In my opinion. Go to the
- 1:13:44top rank, get built by them. They will build
- 1:13:47him fantastic. And they won't move him quick.
- 1:13:51I would agree if top rank had a broadcast deal.
- 1:13:56Like, yeah, a set framework where they can...
- 1:14:00Just push him through, like, this fight. We'll
- 1:14:03have six, eight, ten rounds by this card. Yeah,
- 1:14:06like, you'll fight on Heisman Knight for sure.
- 1:14:08You'll fight on whenever we put Janabek on. You'll
- 1:14:12fight whenever we put Abdullah Mason, like, back
- 1:14:15when they were on ESPN. Well, guess what? You
- 1:14:18do the Abdullah Mason and you stick him on every
- 1:14:20undercard, basically. What is he getting right
- 1:14:23now? He's getting nothing. I mean, anything's
- 1:14:25better than right now. But top rank isn't going
- 1:14:28to give him that either. Even Matchroom, he would
- 1:14:31be a great Matchroom guy with their Black American
- 1:14:34stable. Matchroom, I think they would do a good
- 1:14:38job with him. Queensberry would as well. The
- 1:14:41ceiling is a little lower with Queensberry, but
- 1:14:44I think they have the infrastructure to build
- 1:14:47a guy like Kermel Moten up. Oh, yeah. Let's see.
- 1:14:52So, Kermel Moten and Manny Pacquiao Jr. is also
- 1:14:58fighting on this card. So, I still have not found
- 1:15:02this on Amazon Prime. I've looked many times.
- 1:15:09Allegedly on Prime. Allegedly it's on Prime.
- 1:15:12Let's see here. Last one. Matchroom on DAZN in
- 1:15:19Phoenix, Arizona. I will absolutely be in attendance.
- 1:15:25Moving up the bill, it does leave a little bit
- 1:15:29to be desired. Emiliano Vargas is on it, so I'm
- 1:15:34very happy to see him getting work. Abel Ramos,
- 1:15:38Unk still got it. Tamir Smalls. Unk still got
- 1:15:41it. But the main event, Emmanuel Navarrete versus
- 1:15:46Eduardo Nunez, WBO and IBF. Super featherweight
- 1:15:52champions. Will be unifying. I'm. I'm. Hmm. I'm
- 1:16:02trying to think. This is a really good fight.
- 1:16:06I'm still not entirely sure. Who I think is going
- 1:16:10to win. For. For reasons. I would. I'm riding
- 1:16:18with Nunez. Only because. Nav has he has skated
- 1:16:25by without really having to put in all the same
- 1:16:30commitment that other fighters have to. And he
- 1:16:34gets the accolades anyway. So he's had the most
- 1:16:38like like pretty much any call that like could
- 1:16:42go his way generally does. Typically it does.
- 1:16:45So I would like to see that road run out for
- 1:16:49him. That's really it. Regardless if Nav wins,
- 1:16:54I'm not fussed. I'm happy either way. I just
- 1:16:58hope for a good fight. Nunez will avenge Liam
- 1:17:02Wilson. I got to be honest. I think Nunez wins,
- 1:17:08but I really can't say until we see the weigh
- 1:17:10-ins. Oh, yeah. Nunez will suspiciously weigh
- 1:17:14in at a career -low five pounds lower than he's
- 1:17:17ever weighed before. And Nav will just scrape
- 1:17:20by the weight limit again. Well, what I'm thinking
- 1:17:23is if Nunez is more accurate, I would say even
- 1:17:28faster. Just a slicker Oscar Valdez. You know?
- 1:17:34I think that even though he's shorter than Navarrete,
- 1:17:38if he's accurate and Nunez does hit hard, I mean,
- 1:17:43he might win. I think he has a good chance of
- 1:17:47winning this weekend. Yeah, that's what I was
- 1:17:49going to say. He fights similarly to Valdez,
- 1:17:53but he has heavy hands behind it. And that makes
- 1:17:57a huge difference in how you approach fighting
- 1:18:01him. 100%. When Navarrete, the way he wins is
- 1:18:05he's just going to be tall and long and be awkward.
- 1:18:12I mean, honestly, if Navarrete makes weight...
- 1:18:15and he makes weight good i'm not gonna lie yeah
- 1:18:19if he makes weight good i'm not gonna lie i i
- 1:18:21think that he might just win too it's hard it's
- 1:18:25a tough step i can't i can't really choose i
- 1:18:28i hope nunez wins but you never know yeah so
- 1:18:35on uh boxing before dark for this week i had
- 1:18:40picked up some topics some like off topic things
- 1:18:42to put up at the top to to add a little pad a
- 1:18:48little time um one of the topics that i picked
- 1:18:51up oh do you guys remember maybe you didn't follow
- 1:18:55it but maybe you heard of the little pygmy hippo
- 1:18:59mudang oh yeah so slightly so that yeah the one
- 1:19:07that ate the one that ate the trump cake yeah
- 1:19:10and like would bite people and shit all the time
- 1:19:13yeah so that trend kind of passed on what the
- 1:19:17the new hotness in the animal kingdom is the
- 1:19:22monkey punch yeah punch okay yeah so we were
- 1:19:26talking about punch and when we got to the end
- 1:19:31and we were talking about this fight specifically
- 1:19:33it was uh she asked who do you think punch would
- 1:19:36be cheering for and i said now punch His fame
- 1:19:42comes from, he was abandoned by his mother, and
- 1:19:46he was given an orangutan, like, little stuffy.
- 1:19:49The Ikea monkey plushie, yes. Yeah, to be, like,
- 1:19:52that was his little friend. So, my thinking was,
- 1:19:57Punch would cheer for Nav, because Nav has those
- 1:20:01fucking gorilla arms. Nav looks like the monkey
- 1:20:03plushie, exactly. Punch would be going for, he
- 1:20:07would be cheering for Nav. The worst part is
- 1:20:10the plushie has a little bit of a pot belly like
- 1:20:13that. The resemblance is uncanny. The resemblance
- 1:20:18is uncanny. Yeah, that was a little callback
- 1:20:24to Boxing Before Dark. Punch the monkey. Oh,
- 1:20:29shit. This is a fucking long drive for me. God,
- 1:20:35I can't even get all shitty at the event. Just
- 1:20:40gotta sit there like a good little boxing fan
- 1:20:44and just be really observant. Just gotta take
- 1:20:47it at that point. Yeah, pretty much. Still, though,
- 1:20:51this... Yeah, the card is not the best, but Vargas,
- 1:20:59happy to see him live. Abel Ramos doing it for
- 1:21:05us old guys. And yeah, the main event's fucking
- 1:21:08fun. Oh, yeah. That's all we got on the docket
- 1:21:12for this one. So, we're heading into Nav Nunez
- 1:21:17weekend. Parting words. I hope the zookeepers
- 1:21:25start giving Punch boxing predictions for real,
- 1:21:27though. It'd be really funny. Yeah, give him
- 1:21:32Inoue Nakatani things. Make him choose. See if
- 1:21:38he knows ball. The most recent update that I've
- 1:21:43seen is that his little clan in the zoo, they
- 1:21:48have accepted him. They have accepted him. And
- 1:21:51what's funny is whenever he gets into play fights,
- 1:21:53he swings the monkey plush around too. But the
- 1:22:00thing is that the other monkey also... sort of
- 1:22:04recognizes the plush as another monkey so it's
- 1:22:07like they're to be wanting the monkey fucking
- 1:22:18nav nunez punch the monkey is probably going
- 1:22:22for nav Anything else? Anything else? Well, let's
- 1:22:38go Nunez, hopefully. Let's go Vargas, let's go.
- 1:22:41Let's go, everybody. February 8th was... It's
- 1:22:46in the review block, but fucking... That was
- 1:22:49the Super Bowl. I didn't... I watched it. I watched
- 1:22:56the... The halftime show. I thought it was cool
- 1:23:01to see Xander Zayas and Emiliano Vargas there.
- 1:23:05To me, that part of the show spoke to me personally.
- 1:23:12I very much speak Spanish and understand it.
- 1:23:16I don't listen to Bad Bunny's music, so I didn't
- 1:23:20really care that he was performing. Yeah. But...
- 1:23:26Apparently, there was a dude on the TPUSA one
- 1:23:31that was... He was singing a song about fishing
- 1:23:35and driving his truck and feeding his dog. It
- 1:23:44was a really good song. Just thought I'd put
- 1:23:54that little... End note there. All right. That's
- 1:24:01it for this edition of The Boxing B -Sides. Go
- 1:24:05check out Punch the Monkey.
