Latest / Life For Toledo / When Foundation Falls Matthew 7:27

- 0:00I'm thinking today specifically of just one verse,
- 0:03although we know where this verse goes, maybe.
- 0:06It's Matthew 7, 27. It says, The rain fell, and
- 0:11the floods came, and the winds blew, and slammed
- 0:14against that house, and it fell, and great was
- 0:17its fall. Matthew 7, 27. So we're talking about
- 0:21distress. We're talking about plans and human
- 0:25efforts. The best we can make things, the best
- 0:28we can do with all our training, possibly with
- 0:30education, possibly with help from others, whatever,
- 0:33with all that we do and everything comes to nothing.
- 0:37So there's two important things. One, when does
- 0:40it happen? Well, it happens when distress comes,
- 0:43when things don't go quite right. We know we
- 0:46should build solid and build on solid. And Jesus
- 0:50is solid. And that's where he's going. He's going
- 0:52to tell us, build on me, build on God's word.
- 0:56Without the rest, without getting into the rest
- 0:58of the verses, we already know we need something
- 1:01or someone that lasts, a solid foundation to
- 1:04build on. Jesus alone is that. Though many men
- 1:07have tried to create a solid foundation out of
- 1:09anything or everything else. Then it says, and
- 1:12great was its fall. Bottom line is, the better
- 1:15you think you've got it, the better you think
- 1:17you've got it under control, the bigger platform
- 1:19you build, the greater, stronger foundation you
- 1:22manage to construct. When it goes down, It just
- 1:25goes down harder. You can only build your life
- 1:27on something that will last forever, something
- 1:29that will last beyond death. And that is Jesus
- 1:32Christ, the gospel, the word of God. Turn to
- 1:35Jesus and build everything that you built in,
- 1:38on, and through him.
