  I'm thinking today specifically of just one verse,

  although we know where this verse goes, maybe.

  It's Matthew 7, 27. It says, The rain fell, and

  the floods came, and the winds blew, and slammed

  against that house, and it fell, and great was
• 0:17
  its fall. Matthew 7, 27. So we're talking about
• 0:21
  distress. We're talking about plans and human
• 0:25
  efforts. The best we can make things, the best
• 0:28
  we can do with all our training, possibly with
• 0:30
  education, possibly with help from others, whatever,
• 0:33
  with all that we do and everything comes to nothing.

  So there's two important things. One, when does
• 0:40
  it happen? Well, it happens when distress comes,
• 0:43
  when things don't go quite right. We know we
• 0:46
  should build solid and build on solid. And Jesus
• 0:50
  is solid. And that's where he's going. He's going
• 0:52
  to tell us, build on me, build on God's word.

  Without the rest, without getting into the rest
• 0:58
  of the verses, we already know we need something
• 1:01
  or someone that lasts, a solid foundation to
• 1:04
  build on. Jesus alone is that. Though many men
• 1:07
  have tried to create a solid foundation out of
• 1:09
  anything or everything else. Then it says, and

  great was its fall. Bottom line is, the better
• 1:15
  you think you've got it, the better you think
• 1:17
  you've got it under control, the bigger platform
• 1:19
  you build, the greater, stronger foundation you
• 1:22
  manage to construct. When it goes down, It just
• 1:25
  goes down harder. You can only build your life
• 1:27
  on something that will last forever, something
• 1:29
  that will last beyond death. And that is Jesus
• 1:32
  Christ, the gospel, the word of God. Turn to
• 1:35
  Jesus and build everything that you built in,
• 1:38
  on, and through him.
