- 0:01Luke Chapter 5 Now it happened that while the crowd was
- 0:04pressing around him and listening to the word of God, he
- 0:07was standing by the lake of Geneseret and he saw two boats
- 0:10lying at the edge of the lake. But the fishermen had gotten out
- 0:13of them and were washing their Nets.
- 0:15And he got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and
- 0:17asked him to put out a little way from the land.
- 0:20And he sat down and began teaching the people from the
- 0:22boat. When he'd finished speaking he
- 0:24said to Simon, Put out into the deep water and let down your
- 0:27Nets for a catch. Simon answered and said, Master,
- 0:31we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as
- 0:34you say and let down the Nets. When they had done this, they
- 0:37enclosed a great quantity of fish and their Nets began to
- 0:40break. So they signaled to their
- 0:42partners in the other boat for them to come and help them.
- 0:45And they came and filled both of their boats so that they began
- 0:47to sink. When Simon Peters saw that, he
- 0:51fell down at Jesus feet saying, Go away from me, Lord, for I am
- 0:55a sinful man. For amazement had seized him and
- 0:58all his companions because of the catch of fish which they had
- 1:01taken. And so also were James and John,
- 1:04sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon.
- 1:08And Jesus said to Simon, do not fear, from now on you will be
- 1:11catching men. When they brought their boats to
- 1:14land, they left everything and followed him.
- 1:17While he was in one of the cities.
- 1:18Behold, there was a man covered with leprosy.
- 1:21When he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and implored him,
- 1:24saying, Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.
- 1:28And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, I am
- 1:31willing be cleansed. And immediately the leprosy left
- 1:35him, and he ordered him to tell no one.
- 1:37But go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for
- 1:40your cleansing, just as Moses commanded as a testimony to
- 1:44them. But the news about him was
- 1:46spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to
- 1:49hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses.
- 1:51But Jesus himself would often slip away to the wilderness to
- 1:54pray. One day he was teaching, and
- 1:56there were some Pharisees and teachers of the Law sitting
- 1:58there who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and
- 2:01from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was
- 2:04present for him to perform healing.
- 2:06And some men were carrying on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and
- 2:10they were trying to bring him in to set him down in front of him.
- 2:13But not finding any way to bring him in because of the crowd,
- 2:16they went up on the roof and let him down through the tiles with
- 2:18his stretcher into the middle of the crowd in front of Jesus.
- 2:23Seeing their faith, He said, Friend, your sins are forgiven
- 2:26you. The scribes and the Pharisees
- 2:29began to reason, saying, Who is this man who speaks blasphemies,
- 2:33who can forgive sins but God alone?
- 2:36But Jesus, aware of their reasonings, answered and said to
- 2:39them, Why are you reasoning in your hearts?
- 2:43Which is easier, to say your sins have been forgiven you or
- 2:47to say get up and walk, but so that you may know that the Son
- 2:51of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins?
- 2:54He said to the paralytic, I say to you, get up and pick up your
- 2:58stretcher and go home immediately.
- 3:00He got up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and
- 3:04went home glorifying God. They were all struck with
- 3:07astonishment and began glorifying God and they were
- 3:09filled with fear, saying, we have seen remarkable things
- 3:12today. After that he went out and
- 3:15noticed a tax collector named Levi sitting in the tax booth,
- 3:18and he said to him, follow me. And he left everything behind
- 3:22and got up and began to follow him.
- 3:24And Levi gave a big reception for him in his house, and there
- 3:27was a great crowd of tax collectors and other people who
- 3:29were reclining at the table with them.
- 3:32The Pharisees and the scribes began grumbling at his
- 3:34disciples, saying, Why do you eat and drink with the tax
- 3:37collectors and sinners? And Jesus answered and said to
- 3:40them, It is not those who are well who need a physician, but
- 3:44those who are sick. I have not come to call the
- 3:46righteous, but sinners to repentance.
- 3:49And they said to him, The disciples of John often fast and
- 3:52offer prayers. The disciples of the Pharisees
- 3:54also do the same, but yours eat and drink.
- 3:58And Jesus said to them, You cannot make the attendance of
- 4:01the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them, can
- 4:04you? But the days will come, and when
- 4:06the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast
- 4:09in those days. And he was also telling them a
- 4:12parable. No one tears a piece of cloth
- 4:15from a new garment and puts it on an old garment.
- 4:18Otherwise he will both tear the new and the piece from the new
- 4:21will not match the old, and no one puts new wine into old wine
- 4:25skins. Otherwise the new wine will
- 4:27burst the skins and it will be spilled out and the skins will
- 4:31be ruined. But new wine must be put into
- 4:34fresh wine skins, and no one after drinking old wine, wishes
- 4:38for new, for he says the old is good enough.
