- 2:11Speaker 1: To Sheen Hello, the wrong with money making conversations at all.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Thank you. I'll tell you something. First of all, I'm
- 2:22Speaker 1: gonna tell you something right now. I watched your shows,
- 2:24Speaker 1: so we could talk about anything about the shows. You
- 2:27Speaker 1: can talk about the character. So I'm not one of
- 2:29Speaker 1: these guys that you called in and I kind of know.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's a really good y'all, go watch it.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I know about Cassie and Chie. You know I'm staying.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You know, I know the Uncas dad. I know about that.
- 2:42Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I know rod Rico what
- 2:44Speaker 1: he did with his daddy in the restaurant. You know
- 2:47Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I know y'all from Dorchester, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 1: right outside of Boston. I know I really had to
- 2:55Speaker 1: do a quiz. You will win. You probably know more
- 2:57Speaker 1: than I do. But it ain't a bad thing because
- 3:00Speaker 1: that's what fans are supposed to do. And I'm a
- 3:02Speaker 1: fan of your work. I'm a fan of your work
- 3:05Speaker 1: and before and I'm not gonna leave this out because
- 3:08Speaker 1: I asked. I asked them for two breaks because it's
- 3:10Speaker 1: a couple of things I want to talk about. First.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I want to talk about the Lucas Foundation. We're gonna
- 3:14Speaker 1: talk about that later. Because that's important to me. And
- 3:16Speaker 1: know you have a fan if you ever doing a gala,
- 3:19Speaker 1: doing a walk, contact with Sean McDonald or your contact
- 3:23Speaker 1: with Sean McDonald, and I will put it on my
- 3:25Speaker 1: social media because that's an important because my creative producer,
- 3:30Speaker 1: Tracy Logan has the same illness. So well, that's good.
- 3:35Speaker 1: We appreciate it because we're trying to get the word out.
- 3:38Speaker 1: There's so many people and know that you know that
- 3:44Speaker 1: that's important to me and I wanted to get that
- 3:46Speaker 1: out and we'll talk about it later on when we
- 3:48Speaker 1: close out the show, because that's important. And I'm always
- 3:51Speaker 1: there for her, not only as a you know, an employer,
- 3:54Speaker 1: but a friend and understand the things that she goes
- 3:57Speaker 1: through to you know, live a quality of life every
- 4:00Speaker 1: a and it's important. But let's go back to the
- 4:03Speaker 1: star power of you, young lady. You got two TV
- 4:06Speaker 1: show to TV show. Well, God has blessed me to
- 4:11Speaker 1: keep working. Now here's the deal. Here's the deal, and
- 4:15Speaker 1: you do keep working. Now people are if they are
- 4:18Speaker 1: not watching Daytime Divas, which is uh, it's from the
- 4:22Speaker 1: It's from Star Jones who used to be from the
- 4:24Speaker 1: View and she wrote a book called Satan's Sisters, and
- 4:27Speaker 1: I know Star Jones can Star Jones with the college
- 4:30Speaker 1: with me at the University of Houston and then and
- 4:34Speaker 1: then is executive to produced by Susanne the Past, who
- 4:38Speaker 1: gave me one of my first writing jobs on Sister
- 4:42Speaker 1: Sister sitcom. Okay, so so so no, we're all in
- 4:47Speaker 1: this thing now. Now, your character is a comedian and
- 4:51Speaker 1: basically I'm just let everybody know if you've seen the
- 4:53Speaker 1: talk if you've seen the view is that's that's set up,
- 4:57Speaker 1: but the story is off stay each that's the story exactly.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It's what happens in the women's lives outside of the
- 5:06Speaker 1: talk show. But you know, the one thing about those
- 5:09Speaker 1: group of women is that they all will have each
- 5:12Speaker 1: other's back, so they mess with each other. They don't
- 5:15Speaker 1: want anybody else mess with you, so you know, they
- 5:19Speaker 1: take care of each other. But yeah, you know, it's
- 5:21Speaker 1: it's uh, it's definitely based off of the Jones book
- 5:25Speaker 1: Satan's Sisters. Now that the cool thing about is that
- 5:28Speaker 1: your character went on a little journey because your character
- 5:31Speaker 1: and if I'm saying that they roll you could correct me.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Your character was all about you in the beginning. Okay,
- 5:37Speaker 1: it was all about you. You know, it's all about
- 5:39Speaker 1: you know, trying to get that that left chair, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 1: left chair, and all about what it's gonna be about
- 5:44Speaker 1: you after. You know. I watched the show, and I'm
- 5:47Speaker 1: a fame because of the fact that it's a well
- 5:49Speaker 1: written show. And I love the fact that anytime I
- 5:52Speaker 1: see a show with strong African American characters, and that
- 5:57Speaker 1: show has it. And also I like Shaun's character to
- 6:01Speaker 1: executive to do some on the show. That's a strong,
- 6:03Speaker 1: diverse character emotionally for me. And then Vanessa week come on,
- 6:09Speaker 1: you got Vanessa Williams. I mean, it's a great cast
- 6:13Speaker 1: of people and we really enjoyed I'm doing, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 1: playing those roles, you know, because this is a brand
- 6:19Speaker 1: new show, um and it was starts vision and I'm
- 6:23Speaker 1: happy that you know that her vision is literally playing
- 6:26Speaker 1: out right, you know. And the and the cool thing
- 6:28Speaker 1: about the show is that they have celebrities on the show.
- 6:31Speaker 1: It's like, you know, like when you ran into uh
- 6:35Speaker 1: Tamary Maori at the at the at the at the
- 6:38Speaker 1: at the clothing store, y'all was fighting over that shirt
- 6:42Speaker 1: and so and so she told you got no job
- 6:44Speaker 1: on the rail and got no job on the rail.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Now you know, you better get your butt back on
- 6:47Speaker 1: that show. And so my whole thing is that when
- 6:50Speaker 1: you get these roles, you know, because you're you're a
- 6:52Speaker 1: talented singer, you know, and then and then you're you're funny,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you're attractive, and then you and then you then you're
- 6:59Speaker 1: dramatic and all these things. And so so if you
- 7:02Speaker 1: watch the series, you know, you start out and guess what,
- 7:06Speaker 1: and you're a woman's woman, you know you you know you,
- 7:08Speaker 1: you you learn about know, you still got it going on,
- 7:10Speaker 1: you still find And I think that's guess And I
- 7:17Speaker 1: think that's important because sexy don't die. Well, I wouldn't
- 7:22Speaker 1: say sexy. You know, I always chose comedy. Comedy came
- 7:27Speaker 1: natural to me, and I really love doing drama. But
- 7:31Speaker 1: you know, you gotta get ugly for comedy, right, But
- 7:33Speaker 1: I love about it. You know, there ain't no time
- 7:35Speaker 1: to be playing no cute game, right right, right, And
- 7:39Speaker 1: and that's what happens in this series and so and
- 7:41Speaker 1: so in the last series, in the last episode I
- 7:43Speaker 1: just saw was the episode where this is what I
- 7:45Speaker 1: was talking about, the journey of your character. And I'm
- 7:47Speaker 1: and I'm talking about the show because I'm not trying
- 7:49Speaker 1: to reveal you know, key plot points in the show,
- 7:53Speaker 1: because I feel everybody should watch the watch started tonight.
- 7:56Speaker 1: If you have not seen the series from the beginning,
- 7:59Speaker 1: you can being watch it. Just go on demand and
- 8:02Speaker 1: Ben watched. The show is well worth it. You will laugh,
- 8:06Speaker 1: you will you. The characters are very relatable. Vanessa Williams
- 8:10Speaker 1: Diva role is fantastic. It has selations. She's just an
- 8:15Speaker 1: awesome person. I love the word selations. Plot lines. I'm
- 8:18Speaker 1: talking about these characters. They go be y'all, just normal behavior.
- 8:22Speaker 1: But I love the fact that in the end when
- 8:24Speaker 1: you came back and defended kiddy character, you know, you
- 8:28Speaker 1: saved her character. And that's what I was saying, is
- 8:30Speaker 1: that your character is more than in the beginning. You know,
- 8:34Speaker 1: use about you? And if Vanessa we stopped you in
- 8:37Speaker 1: the hallway, she said, really you about somebody other than you?
- 8:41Speaker 1: Tell me about that journey. And when you take these roles,
- 8:44Speaker 1: are you looking to develop your characters? Let's just be
- 8:47Speaker 1: funny and do what you tell you. No, no, no, never,
- 8:50Speaker 1: just be funny and do what they tell you. That
- 8:52Speaker 1: is never the key to success, nor are being happy
- 8:55Speaker 1: at what you do. Um, I have to like, I
- 8:59Speaker 1: was asked to do this, to to this role, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and play the part of more, which is always a
- 9:04Speaker 1: pleasure because when you're asked to something, that means they
- 9:07Speaker 1: trust your opinion and what choices you will make. And
- 9:11Speaker 1: with Mo, I just it's just the Caacus screamed out
- 9:14Speaker 1: of me. I just laughed and laughed, and I saw
- 9:17Speaker 1: that she had a lot of hearts. But I kind
- 9:19Speaker 1: of loved the fact that I was you know, that
- 9:22Speaker 1: I would be hated a little bit by a lot
- 9:24Speaker 1: of people, which was cool too, But it's somewhere there's
- 9:28Speaker 1: a reason for it. You know, there's always a deeper
- 9:31Speaker 1: there's a deeper layer to every character. And the layers
- 9:37Speaker 1: that uh that that Mo has really uh intrigued me,
- 9:42Speaker 1: which was one of the reasons why I really really
- 9:44Speaker 1: wanted to play the role. Um. And that's what I'm like.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I mean, everything is in the writing, you know, and
- 9:49Speaker 1: black women we need to be we were so many things,
- 9:53Speaker 1: so we should be represented correctly. And uh that's always
- 9:58Speaker 1: a fight, you know, it's always you know, you gotta
- 10:00Speaker 1: keep that integrity. But that's me as a mom, me
- 10:03Speaker 1: as a as an actress me as a survivor being
- 10:07Speaker 1: a show business so long. You know, people call me
- 10:09Speaker 1: a legend, but you know, I'm a survivor. I've been
- 10:12Speaker 1: able to be in the industry over thirties six years.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of people come and go. But
- 10:17Speaker 1: I wake up every day loving what I do. God's
- 10:20Speaker 1: bless me to to do what I love doing, and
- 10:22Speaker 1: I respected, so I put it in high regard. So
- 10:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna treat it that way. Well, that's the show
- 10:27Speaker 1: we're talking about right now, because we're gonna talk about
- 10:29Speaker 1: other show, Survivor's Remorse, which premiers this Sunday, August twenty
- 10:33Speaker 1: throw stars we're talking about here currently is her other
- 10:36Speaker 1: show that's on VH one. You can watch you tonight.
- 10:38Speaker 1: It's called Daytime Divas. And one of the things that
- 10:41Speaker 1: I like about the characters there are strong female characters.
- 10:44Speaker 1: There are diversed. But one of the things that you
- 10:47Speaker 1: said something in your speech is the fact that you're
- 10:49Speaker 1: are a mother. You're a single mother, you know, and
- 10:53Speaker 1: that that so what you do on screen plays an
- 10:57Speaker 1: important role to what your daughter sees. Is that correct?
- 11:00Speaker 1: Most definitely, I had a you know, when my daughter
- 11:03Speaker 1: was younger, I had a rule. You know, if she
- 11:06Speaker 1: can't watch it, I don't take the role. And now
- 11:10Speaker 1: she's older, you know she could stomach more a little more.
- 11:17Speaker 1: You know what, even if she was young, I still
- 11:19Speaker 1: would have taken the role of Mole because um, it's
- 11:23Speaker 1: just the way they are. They're developing the character. And
- 11:26Speaker 1: I always said, you know, I have to take full
- 11:29Speaker 1: responsibility for my position in life, and that is I
- 11:33Speaker 1: am a mother first, so I have to represent myself
- 11:37Speaker 1: correctly as best as I can. Now, you know, I
- 11:40Speaker 1: also have a lot of young people out there that
- 11:42Speaker 1: look up to me and that are looking up to me,
- 11:45Speaker 1: like my fellow you know, actors that look to me.
- 11:48Speaker 1: You know, Hey, you survived as long her. How can
- 11:51Speaker 1: you help us? So? How can you? So? I'm the
- 11:53Speaker 1: best way I can't help anybody else is helping myself,
- 11:55Speaker 1: and that's making the right charge. Try to make the
- 11:57Speaker 1: right cho and you make the right charge over and
- 11:59Speaker 1: over gain I try, I try. I tried so hard.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'm something. You know, when I've asked you to come
- 12:05Speaker 1: to the Neighborhood Awards or the Hoodie Awards, You've come there,
- 12:07Speaker 1: you know, and that's that's giving your time because you
- 12:10Speaker 1: knew that made people or your fans feel good. Did
- 12:12Speaker 1: you care about them? Did you have time for them?
- 12:15Speaker 1: Where will we be without the fans? And as long
- 12:17Speaker 1: as they enjoy it, they keep us working, So why
- 12:20Speaker 1: would we not? Now I was reading something about this.
- 12:23Speaker 1: You have something that you do with your daughter on
- 12:25Speaker 1: Instagram is called morning school playlist. Yeah, school Morning playlist,
- 12:29Speaker 1: that's what I caught. Yeah. I started that because my daughter,
- 12:33Speaker 1: she is just so challenged, she really is. She has
- 12:36Speaker 1: a lot of gifts. God gave her the gift of
- 12:38Speaker 1: a gift song, and now she wants to do some
- 12:43Speaker 1: more acting. So I said, okay. But I was a
- 12:47Speaker 1: single mother, so starting out it was just like, oh
- 12:49Speaker 1: my god, we're fighting in the mornings trying to get
- 12:51Speaker 1: dressed the school. And I said, somebody has got to
- 12:55Speaker 1: feel my pain right now. How do I turn this around?
- 12:58Speaker 1: How do I make this a pleas it experience for
- 13:01Speaker 1: both she and I? And I said, you know what,
- 13:04Speaker 1: we let's turn on some music. And I started turning
- 13:06Speaker 1: on music and she just learned all the songs. She
- 13:12Speaker 1: listened to music all the time. So I said, you
- 13:13Speaker 1: know what, let me start recording it and sharing it.
- 13:16Speaker 1: With people, and the top of that, I mean, it
- 13:19Speaker 1: just got such a great response from people. People, Can
- 13:22Speaker 1: you please put some more videos up? You know, we
- 13:24Speaker 1: love watching your daughter and you in the morning. So
- 13:26Speaker 1: I don't mind what people, I don't mind sharing our
- 13:29Speaker 1: faults or our our personal lives. This is gonna help
- 13:34Speaker 1: somebody else. And I saw that me and Eliza, what
- 13:38Speaker 1: we were going through in the morning time, helping other
- 13:41Speaker 1: mothers get their kids ready. And then just even if
- 13:44Speaker 1: you know that somebody else is going through it and
- 13:46Speaker 1: you're not the only one, it helps. So I was
- 13:50Speaker 1: just kind of developed from there, and Elijah enjoyed doing it.
- 13:53Speaker 1: It's amazing. I've laughing because I get this. I'm watching
- 13:55Speaker 1: the video because he plays back on my Facebook stream
- 13:58Speaker 1: and I'm getting to see you guys actially in the car.
- 14:00Speaker 1: She's dancing in the back seat and you're in the
- 14:02Speaker 1: front sea dancing and things like that. So this is
- 14:04Speaker 1: on your Instagram at the sena Arnold morning School playlist
- 14:08Speaker 1: correct school morning. Just I keep saying it wrong because
- 14:13Speaker 1: they put it wrong on this piece of paper. It's
- 14:16Speaker 1: so good. You got good memory because you remember a
- 14:20Speaker 1: lot of stuff. Well, I would this. We got some
- 14:23Speaker 1: more to talk about, which is in particular, you know,
- 14:26Speaker 1: Survivors Remorse. I left that whole first X section about
- 14:31Speaker 1: daytime fevers because when you're star, you know, just cramp
- 14:34Speaker 1: everything in the one break. Coming up next, we're gonna
- 14:37Speaker 1: talk about the dramatic end to the third season. We're
- 14:40Speaker 1: gonna talk about that car crash when UNC died your brother.
- 14:45Speaker 1: We're gonna get emotional, we're gonna laugh. Stay tuned, y'all
- 14:49Speaker 1: hanging there. I got the great legendary funny singer single
- 14:53Speaker 1: Mob to sing the on on the call. We'll be
- 14:56Speaker 1: right back with more money making conversation. I'm back. I
- 15:01Speaker 1: gotta bring her back up real quick. She's on hold.
- 15:04Speaker 1: She hung in with me for one break. Now we're
- 15:06Speaker 1: gonna wrap up this next break because premiere in this
- 15:09Speaker 1: Sunday August is the fourth season of Survivor's Remorse, starring
- 15:15Speaker 1: on Stars. Does she know how you're doing? Now? Here's
- 15:20Speaker 1: the great thing about this is that is that in
- 15:22Speaker 1: real life, your single mam on this episode or this series,
- 15:25Speaker 1: which is I'm gonna tell you I have run reco
- 15:27Speaker 1: le on earlier and I'm gonna just tell you because
- 15:30Speaker 1: I don't don't I want to make sure you hear
- 15:32Speaker 1: what I'm saying about how I love this show. This
- 15:36Speaker 1: show is from an African American standpoint, is one of
- 15:41Speaker 1: the best shows I've seen in my life. I gotta
- 15:46Speaker 1: say this because it's a drama d and I say
- 15:48Speaker 1: that because very few shows have the ability because we
- 15:52Speaker 1: want to know where the classic drama is. Mash Mash
- 15:55Speaker 1: is one of the all time great classic drama d
- 15:57Speaker 1: series in television history. Well, one minute you're crying, one
- 16:02Speaker 1: minute you're taking on the emotional journey, and then the
- 16:05Speaker 1: next minute you're laughing and you're finding every character relatable.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And that's what the key of this show is all about.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And you play a single mom on this show to
- 16:16Speaker 1: m Chuck and to Cam and Camras the basketball superstar.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Who's who think that this family would migrated down from Boston,
- 16:24Speaker 1: Dorchester's their community to live in Atlanta. So they're coming
- 16:27Speaker 1: down the whole Atlantis a new experience. I'm just I'm
- 16:30Speaker 1: just I'm just painting the story for him so they
- 16:32Speaker 1: won't be lost. We start talking about I love this show.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I love this show. I think it's My wife has
- 16:40Speaker 1: cried twice on this show. She cried, she cried when
- 16:44Speaker 1: Uncle Ju die. You know that car accident. Whoa? And
- 16:51Speaker 1: then and then the hospital scene, whoa, I'm telling you,
- 16:55Speaker 1: and then then you know, I'm just letting everybody know.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I'm not gonna go in detail because you need to,
- 17:00Speaker 1: as they say, started being watching watching the series this
- 17:03Speaker 1: week so you can be ready for the August premiere
- 17:06Speaker 1: on Stars. Yes, tell us about your character Cassie, who
- 17:11Speaker 1: now has a relationship with Shin. Yes, And I'm just
- 17:15Speaker 1: gonna give you a little backstory. Um Chen is played
- 17:18Speaker 1: by Robert wool great actor. He came on, we had
- 17:21Speaker 1: a scene together, and the scene that we had together
- 17:24Speaker 1: just was so he just did so well. And I
- 17:26Speaker 1: would say, you know what, I really want to delve
- 17:29Speaker 1: a little. I want my character to um double a
- 17:33Speaker 1: little deeper into this relationship because for so long I
- 17:37Speaker 1: have not seen on television black women adorned truly loved.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And I said, you know what, I want him to,
- 17:46Speaker 1: you know, truly love her and show his love for her.
- 17:49Speaker 1: And what better way didn't have a billionaire love you
- 17:51Speaker 1: right right right right? So um you know, and and
- 17:55Speaker 1: that's every woman's fantasy to be loved like that. So
- 17:59Speaker 1: I said, let's us do it, and and Michael Mallley.
- 18:02Speaker 1: The good thing about him is that he's not the
- 18:05Speaker 1: executive producer. But every season, you know, we as actors,
- 18:10Speaker 1: we individually sit there and we go in the writer's
- 18:13Speaker 1: room getting of each season, and we talk about what
- 18:16Speaker 1: we see, our characters, talk about our storyline. So your
- 18:20Speaker 1: survivor's remorris is, you know a lot of our input
- 18:24Speaker 1: as well, because you know we we you know, when
- 18:28Speaker 1: you play a character, but for so long, you know,
- 18:30Speaker 1: it becomes a part of you. And of course you
- 18:33Speaker 1: wanted to see a grow, You want to see you different,
- 18:35Speaker 1: you want to experience different things. So that was one
- 18:38Speaker 1: of my things with Cassie. But this season, the amazing
- 18:43Speaker 1: Isaiah Washington, who is coming on and he just comes
- 18:48Speaker 1: on and just now he's Cam's father. Correct, Yes, he's
- 18:52Speaker 1: Cam's father, Okay, and now and that that's how this
- 18:54Speaker 1: last season end when you want to visit him in jail. Correct, Okay,
- 18:59Speaker 1: So not gonna reveal too much, Yeah, you don't want
- 19:02Speaker 1: to so many different this year. You're gonna see so
- 19:05Speaker 1: many different plots and storyline. You'll still see us as
- 19:10Speaker 1: a family cohesive, but you know we are. Yeah, Well,
- 19:14Speaker 1: the key that the thing I liked about I like
- 19:17Speaker 1: about the series. It's first of all, when I was
- 19:19Speaker 1: talking to Ron Rico, is the anger because it's a family.
- 19:23Speaker 1: You know, you got money now didn't have money kind
- 19:26Speaker 1: of little hoodish, little hoodish, you know, the hood kind
- 19:34Speaker 1: of but you but you, but you respect you respect
- 19:37Speaker 1: your son. Now you have two children. Uh, let's break
- 19:41Speaker 1: down to the listener and to the view about your child.
- 19:45Speaker 1: IM Chuck which is short for Mary Charles. And then
- 19:49Speaker 1: Cam who's the basketball superstar who was signed to play
- 19:52Speaker 1: basketball at the the A lot of Hawks. Now they
- 19:57Speaker 1: both as we we established that um I was raped,
- 20:02Speaker 1: gang raped by um one of them chucked. Well she
- 20:07Speaker 1: you know, she went down that path of finding her
- 20:09Speaker 1: father M Chucked and then UM Cam's father obviously now
- 20:13Speaker 1: is Isaiah Washington. So UM I have two children that
- 20:17Speaker 1: are obviously completely different, but um who love each other
- 20:23Speaker 1: and who um who are basically on my life, you know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: as with any other any mother, you know, we make
- 20:29Speaker 1: our children our lives. And you know, I think Cassie
- 20:32Speaker 1: does puts Cam in a position because he is the moneymaker.
- 20:36Speaker 1: He is, you know, but she he's still her son.
- 20:39Speaker 1: And I don't think she ever loses sight of that.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Uh So she's always going to give him her honest opinion.
- 20:46Speaker 1: She's never going to uh steer him wrong. Now her
- 20:50Speaker 1: opinion kiss married. It could be a little different sometimes,
- 20:55Speaker 1: but it's because she's been through it. It's because she's
- 20:58Speaker 1: she's overcome a lot different obstacles. So you know, she
- 21:02Speaker 1: she has the right as the matriarch of the show
- 21:05Speaker 1: as well to um to to let's just say, speak
- 21:09Speaker 1: her mind and she has no Cassie has no problem
- 21:12Speaker 1: doing it. Now, let me as it is because whatever
- 21:15Speaker 1: you do, because just the drama side of the series,
- 21:17Speaker 1: and when you start getting involved with deaf scenes and
- 21:20Speaker 1: and still have to be funny and you know, because
- 21:23Speaker 1: one scene has written said and the other scenes you
- 21:25Speaker 1: have to deliver a funny line to break the ice.
- 21:28Speaker 1: As an actress, how do you build on that? How
- 21:31Speaker 1: did you create that moment um? You go with the moment,
- 21:35Speaker 1: you believe the moment. You know, um, all of us
- 21:38Speaker 1: as actors on the show, we all insert a little
- 21:41Speaker 1: bit of ourselves. I know that I do try to
- 21:44Speaker 1: with every role that I take so that I will
- 21:46Speaker 1: be believable. But you insert a little bit of yourself
- 21:49Speaker 1: and you try to identify with what's going on in
- 21:52Speaker 1: the actual scene. And we have great writers. You better
- 22:00Speaker 1: believe you've got great writers. Girl. When you have good writers,
- 22:03Speaker 1: that is always a great combination. So because of our
- 22:06Speaker 1: writers and because of you know, our executive producers, and
- 22:10Speaker 1: because there's such a great vision for the show, we
- 22:13Speaker 1: try to play that vision out as best as possible.
- 22:16Speaker 1: It makes it a little easier. And you know, like
- 22:18Speaker 1: I said, it comes you know, a lot of it
- 22:20Speaker 1: is our own input day and you know, you know,
- 22:26Speaker 1: being a sitcom writer and knowing what you have to do,
- 22:29Speaker 1: and that's why I just love First of all, you
- 22:31Speaker 1: gotta have talent. And when you looked at cast, such
- 22:34Speaker 1: a talented, talented cast. When the show came out, the
- 22:37Speaker 1: big fanfare was it was Lebron James executive produced. That's
- 22:41Speaker 1: what that was the hype on that. And I'm just
- 22:43Speaker 1: telling everybody who's listening or who's watching on my Facebook
- 22:46Speaker 1: page and who will here play back on my Heart
- 22:49Speaker 1: Radio podcast that this is a show that is incredibly funny,
- 22:54Speaker 1: a cast that is very relatable, and the diversity on
- 22:58Speaker 1: this show is amazing easy. And the thing I like
- 23:01Speaker 1: about the show is that when I go to m Chuck,
- 23:04Speaker 1: I see an avery young lady, but a beautiful young lady,
- 23:08Speaker 1: and she's trying to find herself. She's in a lesbian world.
- 23:12Speaker 1: You know, she has a major voice, but she's she
- 23:15Speaker 1: doesn't even know who she is. And the season end
- 23:18Speaker 1: with her trying to find her father. That's how the season.
- 23:21Speaker 1: That's that's the season for storyline. Correct. Yes, so that's
- 23:25Speaker 1: one of them. We got a lot of story but yes,
- 23:27Speaker 1: that's one of them. And then and then you have
- 23:30Speaker 1: and then the other storyline, just sending the talk for storylines,
- 23:33Speaker 1: not cam. I'm assuming any one of his story lives
- 23:36Speaker 1: is gonna be his relationship with his father. Correct, two
- 23:40Speaker 1: kids pursuing their past with their father. Okay, cool. Then
- 23:44Speaker 1: if if if he's going to pursue his relationship with
- 23:47Speaker 1: his father, then once his father is there, Washington comes
- 23:49Speaker 1: in the world. That means there's gonna be some connectivity
- 23:52Speaker 1: with you correct, yes, correct, without me telling the storyline,
- 23:56Speaker 1: which means there's going to be a problem with the billionaire.
- 24:00Speaker 1: You know what, it may it may not good. Look,
- 24:06Speaker 1: you ain't gonna get it out of me. And then
- 24:08Speaker 1: you got Reggie and Missy who plays his wife on
- 24:11Speaker 1: the show, and Reggie is the cousins who's also the
- 24:14Speaker 1: manager because Missy is so busy trying to make sure
- 24:18Speaker 1: he has a career outside of Camp, and Kim's fighting
- 24:21Speaker 1: with that because guess what the reason he's hit is
- 24:25Speaker 1: because of Camp. Yep. Yeah, so you're gonna see that
- 24:28Speaker 1: relationship dynamic. It's some great tell you something. I'm gonna
- 24:32Speaker 1: tell you something to sell. I am a fan. You
- 24:40Speaker 1: are really listen, you are proving yourself to be a
- 24:42Speaker 1: true fan. That's for sure. I'm a fan because this
- 24:45Speaker 1: is what we want people to do. We want you
- 24:47Speaker 1: to dissect it. We want you to pay attention to
- 24:51Speaker 1: those little things. We want you to have an opinion.
- 24:54Speaker 1: We actually do listen to people that follow us on
- 24:58Speaker 1: Twitter and they give us their opinion on Facebook. We
- 25:01Speaker 1: pay attention to all of that because we want to
- 25:03Speaker 1: be able to service everybody. Ok. But before before we
- 25:07Speaker 1: get out of here again, let me just tell everybody
- 25:08Speaker 1: want to talk about the foundation before, because we hit
- 25:11Speaker 1: on it a little bit in the beginning, but I
- 25:12Speaker 1: want to give it the time that it deserves now.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Survivor's remar the fourth season, premieres this Sunday, August on Stars. Now,
- 25:21Speaker 1: if you've never seen an episode of Survivor's Remorse, I'm
- 25:25Speaker 1: talking right now to Sheina Arnold. I have run recoently
- 25:29Speaker 1: on earlier. A fantastic cast. It's a drama day something
- 25:33Speaker 1: that's not gonna t you right now. An amazing African
- 25:36Speaker 1: American cast with a lot of diversity. That's the great
- 25:39Speaker 1: thing about this show. Now you can binge watch. Just
- 25:43Speaker 1: go to on the maind go to on demand, just
- 25:45Speaker 1: bend watched, Just just start. Just just get you some water,
- 25:48Speaker 1: get you some Cheetos and start laughing, you know, pause
- 25:52Speaker 1: on the bathroom breaks and go do your thing. You
- 25:55Speaker 1: need to be ready for this. You got the bench
- 25:59Speaker 1: rotch because it's it's great. It's not that long. Episodes
- 26:02Speaker 1: go by like that. It's half out. It's half out. Now.
- 26:06Speaker 1: With that being said, I talked to her about the
- 26:09Speaker 1: Luver's foindation. Give me some details of why it's important
- 26:12Speaker 1: and how we can you know, either donate now or
- 26:14Speaker 1: participate in any cause that you have in relationship in
- 26:18Speaker 1: relations in relation to this in the future. Yes, well, well,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I I have my sister and I have an organization
- 26:25Speaker 1: called We Went Foundation. My sister has seven autoimmune diseases,
- 26:30Speaker 1: the seventh one she was diagnosed with with lupus. She
- 26:34Speaker 1: asked me to talk about I said, you know, once
- 26:36Speaker 1: I opened my big mouth and there's gonna be no stopping.
- 26:39Speaker 1: We started talking about it. And um, you know, we
- 26:43Speaker 1: once we once we start talking about it, we found
- 26:45Speaker 1: that so many people were suffering from that. Even if
- 26:50Speaker 1: you weren't suffer room from it, somebody knew somebody else
- 26:53Speaker 1: from its from and it really affected It's affecting our
- 26:56Speaker 1: black and Latino women the worst, and in even men.
- 27:00Speaker 1: And we uh so what we've been doing is just
- 27:04Speaker 1: talking about it and just teaching everybody to listen to
- 27:07Speaker 1: your body, to be afraid to go to the doctor
- 27:10Speaker 1: and see. My sister in lie dormant for a long time.
- 27:13Speaker 1: So by the time it was her seventh disease that
- 27:15Speaker 1: she was diagnosed with, she told the doctor, well, just
- 27:17Speaker 1: give me a pill and let me keep it movment.
- 27:19Speaker 1: And he's like, no, it's incurable. So that's when we
- 27:22Speaker 1: was like, Okay, we gotta really figured this out. But
- 27:25Speaker 1: once we started talking about it and we we our
- 27:29Speaker 1: our model is the reason why we say we win.
- 27:32Speaker 1: That's when my my sister says all the time, because
- 27:36Speaker 1: you can, despite your obstacles, despite your illness, get through it.
- 27:40Speaker 1: So we want to take and take care of people
- 27:44Speaker 1: and help them. Now, you know, we were looking for cure,
- 27:47Speaker 1: but just any sort of relief. If somebody pays your
- 27:50Speaker 1: telephone bill, that's one listing, you know. So we're just
- 27:54Speaker 1: we're trying to help people the best way we know how.
- 27:57Speaker 1: And uh, and teach awareness and and and let's get
- 28:01Speaker 1: it from the beginning. That's let's not wait even with
- 28:03Speaker 1: prostate cancer and all the stuff. We let's pay attention
- 28:06Speaker 1: to top bodies and not be afraid to go to
- 28:09Speaker 1: the doctor. Also, it's called the We Win Foundation dot org.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Is do we Win Foundation dot org. It was started
- 28:18Speaker 1: because of her sister, but it benefits everyone. Yes, please
- 28:22Speaker 1: go to this site today we Win Foundation dot org.
- 28:25Speaker 1: It's about lupus. As soon as I saw that part
- 28:27Speaker 1: came to me, I'm mean listener to uh Tracy Tracy Logan,
- 28:32Speaker 1: and she uh, you know, she said, thank you. It's
- 28:34Speaker 1: about this is what we need. We need people who
- 28:37Speaker 1: who put the word out let them. Yeah, we need
- 28:40Speaker 1: people like you. And I appreciate it because you know,
- 28:42Speaker 1: a lot of people when you're not going through it.
- 28:44Speaker 1: At the time, you don't care. You're like keep it moving.
- 28:46Speaker 1: But until it affects you, that's when you're like, oh
- 28:49Speaker 1: wait a minute. And that's what happened. You know. Even
- 28:51Speaker 1: with me and my sister, I took it. You know,
- 28:54Speaker 1: I'm thinking, okay, well she'll be all right, you know,
- 28:57Speaker 1: And and and it really dawned on me. I gotta
- 29:00Speaker 1: would awaken when we were going through the airport and
- 29:02Speaker 1: I'm like, the name, come on, hurry up, And she said,
- 29:05Speaker 1: I can't untie my shoe. So something as simple as
- 29:09Speaker 1: tying your shoe, rushing your teeth lupas affects people in
- 29:13Speaker 1: so many different ways. So you know, just be you know,
- 29:17Speaker 1: I'm considered as a caregiver. Um, you know, we even
- 29:21Speaker 1: as caregivers, we gotta learn how to deal with the
- 29:23Speaker 1: people that have And others were my friend. I got
- 29:27Speaker 1: to heard you your half hour. We talked about Daytime Davis.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Watch it tonight on vh one Daytime Davis. He's players.
- 29:35Speaker 1: She plays the character More Evans Sunday, August fourth, on Stars.
- 29:40Speaker 1: The fourth season of Survivors, Remorse relaced the roll of Cassie.
- 29:44Speaker 1: She has an organization just trying to find a cure
- 29:46Speaker 1: for lupa's we Win Foundation dot org. She's a mother,
- 29:51Speaker 1: you know, single parents. She's doing her thing. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 29:55Speaker 1: without further ado, give some love. Continued to support the
- 29:58Speaker 1: one and owners beca thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 30:03Speaker 1: My friend, my next dance. I'm gonna just tell you
- 30:11Speaker 1: he's a musical genius. Let's just put it out there, right.
- 30:14Speaker 1: He is a musical genius. He's an American singer, songwriter,
- 30:18Speaker 1: and record producer. He has written and produced over twenty
- 30:21Speaker 1: six number one R and B hits throughout his career,
- 30:24Speaker 1: and he has over eleven Grammy Awards. Please welcome to
- 30:28Speaker 1: money Making Conversation. Kenny, baby Face, Edmund, How are you doing,
- 30:37Speaker 1: sir good Man? How are you? I'm doing great. Last
- 30:41Speaker 1: time you saw me, I was running around your dressing
- 30:43Speaker 1: room at the Hoodie Awards telling you how great you
- 30:45Speaker 1: were and man, you were special, and you probably thought
- 30:47Speaker 1: I was crazy. Well I thought you were special. I
- 30:52Speaker 1: appreciate that. I appreciate that. Now here's a great thing
- 30:54Speaker 1: about it, because whenever I get a chance where I've
- 30:57Speaker 1: had you on the radio show, I just love to
- 30:59Speaker 1: talk about your career, Kenny, because of the fact that
- 31:02Speaker 1: you're a performer, and a lot of people don't know
- 31:04Speaker 1: because they hear the music, but they don't connect the
- 31:06Speaker 1: dots that that that you wrote that song. Uh is
- 31:10Speaker 1: that important to you or it's as long as you
- 31:13Speaker 1: get to check it's all good. Um, you know, it's
- 31:18Speaker 1: it's I think it's important, but I don't. It's still
- 31:21Speaker 1: not something that I've run around talking about every day.
- 31:23Speaker 1: But you know, as long as ultimate, I think people
- 31:25Speaker 1: are starting to kind of put it together absolutely because
- 31:28Speaker 1: you've been on the you've been on the road. That's
- 31:29Speaker 1: when I put it together. It's it's it's it's really crazy.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I just had Anthony Hamilton's on the on the on
- 31:35Speaker 1: the on the on my show, and we were talking
- 31:38Speaker 1: about one of his songs and I didn't know you
- 31:40Speaker 1: wrote that song, you know, and uh, you know, because
- 31:43Speaker 1: I was talking about a lyric was saying that, Uh,
- 31:45Speaker 1: I thought that men God had it like that And
- 31:48Speaker 1: I said, that was an amazing lyric that that And
- 31:52Speaker 1: he said, man, baby Farris wrote that lyric. I go, huh,
- 31:56Speaker 1: because when when? Because that's how because that is such
- 31:58Speaker 1: a natural thing that you do with your lyrics. You know,
- 32:03Speaker 1: you know, you know, how do you what is the process?
- 32:06Speaker 1: Let let's just slow it down. I don't want to
- 32:08Speaker 1: get excited because we got a lot to talk about it.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I'm glad you made time to do my show because
- 32:12Speaker 1: of the fact that you are a genius. You are
- 32:17Speaker 1: a person that R and B hits, pop hits. You know,
- 32:21Speaker 1: you cross all genres as a producer. What what what
- 32:25Speaker 1: makes Keinty baby Face Emmon's tick? Well, you know you
- 32:31Speaker 1: mentioned like like with um with Anthony, like coming up
- 32:35Speaker 1: with that line, that line wouldn't it wouldn't exist without Anthony,
- 32:40Speaker 1: meaning that when I hung out with him and was
- 32:45Speaker 1: just talking with him, is like that's how he talks. Yeah,
- 32:50Speaker 1: So I just I just took up on people and
- 32:54Speaker 1: and and say what they would say. And uh because
- 32:59Speaker 1: and that's kind of like where you get it from.
- 33:00Speaker 1: You watch people and you hear you hear music and
- 33:03Speaker 1: lyrics all the time if you just watch and listen.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Now here's a great thing about it. I want to say.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Would you say that the Grammy is the is the
- 33:11Speaker 1: ultimate music award? Is that correct? When I say that, Uh, yeah,
- 33:16Speaker 1: it's it's it's kind of like the oscars, the Oscars
- 33:20Speaker 1: of musical kind of like no question, it's like the
- 33:22Speaker 1: oscars for a musician. Right, So, because you've got twenty
- 33:24Speaker 1: six of them. As a producer, I only have eleven eleven.
- 33:28Speaker 1: You got twenty six number one R and B hits,
- 33:30Speaker 1: twenty eleven grammars. Okay, apologize now, to get that means
- 33:34Speaker 1: that there has to be a level of consistency and trust.
- 33:37Speaker 1: And when people come to you, do they come to
- 33:39Speaker 1: you with any level of expectations? Um, they come, I
- 33:46Speaker 1: think at this particular point they could. I don't know
- 33:48Speaker 1: if they come with thinking that the necessarily going to
- 33:50Speaker 1: get a hit per se. They come to get quality,
- 33:56Speaker 1: real song, um and so and and and hoping that
- 33:59Speaker 1: that ultimately turns into something. But I think so the
- 34:03Speaker 1: days of where people kind of just at least coming
- 34:06Speaker 1: to me, they don't. They're coming not coming to me
- 34:08Speaker 1: thinking they're gonna get this huge hit song. We come
- 34:11Speaker 1: in search of a song. Said because you were recently
- 34:16Speaker 1: inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, right then, June, Now,
- 34:21Speaker 1: now when you was inducted to that that that's like
- 34:23Speaker 1: that that's that's that's that's like the well he was
- 34:26Speaker 1: on the thirteen using you had a star on the
- 34:29Speaker 1: Hollywood Walk of Fame and now you're into the Songwriters
- 34:32Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. So there those are those equal? Or
- 34:36Speaker 1: what means more to you? Songwriters means more than the
- 34:40Speaker 1: Hollywood star, no question? And why is that? Because that's
- 34:44Speaker 1: what I am of a songwriter. I don't necessarily consider
- 34:47Speaker 1: myself a star. I consider myself a songwriter. But you,
- 34:50Speaker 1: but you also a performer, and that that's key too.
- 34:53Speaker 1: So so when you're making that well, I guess what.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I met you when you was performer way back in
- 34:57Speaker 1: the day. But now you then you went to become
- 34:59Speaker 1: a writing you know, and all that, So what what what?
- 35:02Speaker 1: What keeps that balance going? Because you're a special guy.
- 35:05Speaker 1: And I say that, and I hope I'm not embarrassing
- 35:07Speaker 1: you when I say that, because of the fact that
- 35:09Speaker 1: you do incredible things with music. You affect how people
- 35:13Speaker 1: live their lives. Your songs come on the radio and
- 35:15Speaker 1: they change, they can change how I feel in a
- 35:18Speaker 1: given day. That's that's amazing to have that quality, don't
- 35:21Speaker 1: you think, No question. I mean, that's that's how music
- 35:24Speaker 1: has always affected me. And that's why I love being
- 35:27Speaker 1: a part of it. You know, I love writing it.
- 35:30Speaker 1: So it's it is certainly something that that you feel
- 35:33Speaker 1: proud of and and because of because of writing music
- 35:37Speaker 1: and what I've done, it's it's put me in situations,
- 35:41Speaker 1: you know, with with amazing people and people that I
- 35:43Speaker 1: grew up you know, uh, listening to and as a
- 35:48Speaker 1: fan of people that I looked up to. You know,
- 35:50Speaker 1: I've been able to be with those people and you know,
- 35:53Speaker 1: hang out with you know, the likes of Stevie Wonder
- 35:56Speaker 1: or I can call Stevie a friend. And and that's
- 35:59Speaker 1: that's all because you know, it's really because I listened
- 36:02Speaker 1: to him and I learned how to write music. You know,
- 36:06Speaker 1: I learned what was important, the importance of what you're doing.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Now when you're on tour, now, that's when you now
- 36:13Speaker 1: you you you do a lot of the songs that
- 36:15Speaker 1: you've written, correct for other artists. Correct. Okay, that's when
- 36:21Speaker 1: it because that's when it just opened up to me
- 36:23Speaker 1: how great you work. Let me just tell you something.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Let me just if you don't mind, give me a
- 36:27Speaker 1: couple of minutes, I'm go and we can interact Morom Tennis.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Some of the songs that you're very familiar with fans, listeners, watchers,
- 36:34Speaker 1: don't be cruel. Bobby Brown, every little step you take, Bobby,
- 36:38Speaker 1: Bobby Brown, Superwoman, Karen White. You know My My My
- 36:45Speaker 1: by Johnny Gil End of the Road Boys, Two men,
- 36:51Speaker 1: Can we talk? Kevin Campbell. I'll make love to you boys.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Two Men again, ad Light Special TLC. Sitting up in
- 37:03Speaker 1: my room. Brandy, you're making me high. Tony Braxton, excel, shoot,
- 37:12Speaker 1: shoot shoot, come on that song or the year? Oh
- 37:17Speaker 1: my goodness man, and then you But then also you've
- 37:21Speaker 1: worked with Eric Clapton and you've worked with Madonna. Correct yes,
- 37:26Speaker 1: how you know? Okay, here'r deal with my radio show
- 37:30Speaker 1: and I'm also on I Heart podcast as well. This
- 37:35Speaker 1: is what it's gonna play back as well. Is that
- 37:37Speaker 1: what I'm just trying to say is that I don't
- 37:40Speaker 1: want to say, because you're so talented, how do you
- 37:43Speaker 1: break it down to somebody trying to get in the
- 37:45Speaker 1: field that you have mastered? Kenny? I think ultimately what
- 37:54Speaker 1: gets you there our songs, Yes, sir, It like you know,
- 38:00Speaker 1: when you write a good song, and when you write
- 38:02Speaker 1: a great song and it's a great melody and uh
- 38:06Speaker 1: and and the track feels good and everything feels good
- 38:08Speaker 1: about it, people find it. So in all reality, you know,
- 38:13Speaker 1: your your credit card is your songwriting. You know, that's
- 38:17Speaker 1: what gets you in the door. It's not I was writing.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I've been writing songs on my life and so and
- 38:24Speaker 1: initially when I was writing songs, I wasn't writing the
- 38:26Speaker 1: right ones. I wasn't I wasn't getting the attention because
- 38:30Speaker 1: I needed to. I needed to fix some things I needed.
- 38:32Speaker 1: It wasn't catchy enough. It wasn't it wasn't touching people,
- 38:36Speaker 1: and so I kept having to go back to the
- 38:38Speaker 1: you know, drawing board and start over again. And that's
- 38:41Speaker 1: and to this day, that's what I do. I'll write
- 38:44Speaker 1: songs and write work on them forever till I can
- 38:47Speaker 1: get them right. So it's, you know, whenever anybody's ever
- 38:52Speaker 1: you know, trying to figure that out. Ultimately it comes
- 38:54Speaker 1: down to are you writing a great song? Are you
- 38:57Speaker 1: making something that everybody wants to listen to and everybody
- 39:00Speaker 1: wants to sing along with our group with whatever, for
- 39:03Speaker 1: whatever it is, And that's that's the key, and that
- 39:06Speaker 1: the key is that you're also now working on a
- 39:08Speaker 1: new album, correct, Yes, I am okay? What drives this
- 39:12Speaker 1: next album? What emotion of, what thought of does anything
- 39:16Speaker 1: trigger you to say, I gotta do this album because
- 39:18Speaker 1: I have something I want to say. Well, you know,
- 39:21Speaker 1: I'm out on the road a lot, and and I
- 39:23Speaker 1: feel like new music is great when you can have
- 39:26Speaker 1: the right kind of new music. You can't just cut
- 39:29Speaker 1: music just the sake of I got a new album.
- 39:31Speaker 1: You gotta do something that you that you feel like
- 39:33Speaker 1: it's gonna that that people are looking for and they
- 39:36Speaker 1: want to feel and then they want to have and
- 39:38Speaker 1: they help them have a good time or you know. So,
- 39:41Speaker 1: I think being out on the road helps you figure
- 39:43Speaker 1: kind of that out with your audience wants from you
- 39:46Speaker 1: and and and so that helps it to that extent
- 39:49Speaker 1: you could you could easily not try to do any
- 39:52Speaker 1: new music. And and a lot of times people aren't
- 39:54Speaker 1: necessarily ready to hear new music from their their favorite artists. Um, yeah,
- 40:00Speaker 1: because you pay the ticket based on what you heard,
- 40:02Speaker 1: correct exactly, So so you know. So it's it is
- 40:07Speaker 1: as much a thing today of trying to write that
- 40:11Speaker 1: right song that makes the difference that they're open with
- 40:13Speaker 1: it radio and and create create new new space. Now,
- 40:17Speaker 1: I have to be honest with you, it's a lot
- 40:19Speaker 1: easier to do that on a new artist that hasn't
- 40:23Speaker 1: had that shot yet, where people are more willing to
- 40:26Speaker 1: listen to because they they haven't heard got anything from them.
- 40:29Speaker 1: So so hence I still write and do things for
- 40:32Speaker 1: other artists to this day and and and always will.
- 40:36Speaker 1: And that's called multiple strains of income. Correct, Yes, as
- 40:40Speaker 1: long as you're doing it with every with everybody else.
- 40:43Speaker 1: The whole thing is I always said I don't want
- 40:47Speaker 1: to have all my eggs in one basket. That's what
- 40:51Speaker 1: I've talking about. Hey, Kenny, I gotta go to break.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Can you hang on because I want to ask you
- 40:55Speaker 1: a couple of more questions by man, I'm on the
- 40:57Speaker 1: phone with the legend, the music genius who has multiple
- 41:01Speaker 1: streams of income. We'll be back with money making conversations.
- 41:03Speaker 1: And I guess Kenny, baby face Adam's gonna talk about
- 41:06Speaker 1: this tour his album. And I got the idea, let's
- 41:09Speaker 1: go to Broadway, Baby, Let's go to Broadway. I'm on
- 41:13Speaker 1: the phone with my man. His credit sale American song
- 41:17Speaker 1: sing singer, songwriter and record producing call him an incredible man,
- 41:22Speaker 1: nice guy. But the hits that he created over the years,
- 41:26Speaker 1: not only did he perform that he's written affect us
- 41:28Speaker 1: every day when you hear Don't be Cruel, every little
- 41:32Speaker 1: step by Bobby Brown, Superwoman by Karen White, or him
- 41:36Speaker 1: singing It's no crime. Whip a Peel, that's my song
- 41:39Speaker 1: right there. I think that's what I fell in love
- 41:40Speaker 1: with the baby Whip a pill. And then my, my,
- 41:44Speaker 1: my my, I'm talking about Johnny gil still making money
- 41:46Speaker 1: off that song. Into the Road Boards two men, the
- 41:50Speaker 1: Bodyguard soundtrack, Come on now for the Cooler Youth. That's
- 41:54Speaker 1: when that that that's when you was really cool, Kenny
- 41:56Speaker 1: on that one. Can't we talk? Kevin Tambo? Do that?
- 42:04Speaker 1: Do you do you get what some people say? Do
- 42:06Speaker 1: you ever have a block? You said, man, But I
- 42:08Speaker 1: think what you told me was that you listen to
- 42:10Speaker 1: people and that helps you be creative? Is that is? That?
- 42:13Speaker 1: Is that the key? That's the care You just you
- 42:17Speaker 1: just listen to everyone, watch everyone, listen to everything, and
- 42:20Speaker 1: that's where you get That's where you get the ideas.
- 42:23Speaker 1: And that's that's like when they say, you know when
- 42:25Speaker 1: a good a great actor is when they listen to
- 42:27Speaker 1: the other person and you react naturally, not to the
- 42:30Speaker 1: line of what that person does and that creates creates
- 42:33Speaker 1: a great scene. Now when you when you put together music,
- 42:37Speaker 1: when I when I saw you, when I when I've
- 42:38Speaker 1: seen you on stage three times, and I've been fortunate
- 42:41Speaker 1: enough to book you one time, so I've come as
- 42:43Speaker 1: a customer twice to see you. And the beauty of
- 42:46Speaker 1: that is that I get to see an artist who's
- 42:49Speaker 1: having a good time. Man, and explained that experience of
- 42:54Speaker 1: being on stage. Because when you look like you having
- 42:56Speaker 1: a great time on stage, man, talk to me about that.
- 43:00Speaker 1: I mean, you can't help but have a good time.
- 43:02Speaker 1: When when when everybody else is having a good time,
- 43:06Speaker 1: you know that's ah, I mean that that's a big,
- 43:10Speaker 1: big part of it is Um, if you wouldn't be
- 43:13Speaker 1: having a good time, if the audience looks like they're
- 43:15Speaker 1: having a good time, then you're don't want to get
- 43:16Speaker 1: off as soon as you can. But but I think
- 43:21Speaker 1: when we go through through the songs, and you know,
- 43:23Speaker 1: something else happens when you hit the stage, You've become
- 43:26Speaker 1: something else from someone else, and uh, and it's and
- 43:31Speaker 1: the music takes over and and and the the stories,
- 43:35Speaker 1: the songs, the it's it's um, it takes you back
- 43:40Speaker 1: to a time and I watched it take people back
- 43:43Speaker 1: to their too special times in their lives where they're
- 43:46Speaker 1: in love or I don't love, or whether it was
- 43:48Speaker 1: hurt or not hurt um and all those things kind
- 43:52Speaker 1: of make a difference. And so you know, at that
- 43:54Speaker 1: particular point you're connecting me. It's the music that is
- 43:59Speaker 1: we have that strong did the world we live in now,
- 44:01Speaker 1: today's social media world will live now in now? Today?
- 44:04Speaker 1: Has that changed how you approach your music? Only it
- 44:09Speaker 1: changes it in the sense of you're maybe a little
- 44:13Speaker 1: more aware of how people talk and how people say things.
- 44:16Speaker 1: People say things differently, so so as you're writing not
- 44:20Speaker 1: so much for myself, but as I'm writing for someone
- 44:22Speaker 1: that might be younger than might because I'm gonna people.
- 44:25Speaker 1: People ultimately only go for songs that they feel that
- 44:28Speaker 1: they think are honest. Though you can't give one song
- 44:31Speaker 1: to another person that that that it doesn't seem like
- 44:34Speaker 1: their personality. It just because it doesn't feel real and
- 44:37Speaker 1: that and that's important to you. Correct, Yeah, well, because
- 44:41Speaker 1: it's it's important because if it's because you know, if
- 44:45Speaker 1: people don't feel like it's real and they're not gonna
- 44:47Speaker 1: they're not gonna like it. Let me ask you just
- 44:48Speaker 1: cause it's just me talking. Okay, Kenny, is that when
- 44:52Speaker 1: I see when I when I watched when I went
- 44:54Speaker 1: to your show, it was like watching the collection of
- 44:56Speaker 1: okay with you, the greatest hits, okay, your your greatest
- 44:59Speaker 1: hits and other hits that you produced and written over
- 45:02Speaker 1: the years. Okay, I see on Broadway, I see Motown,
- 45:06Speaker 1: I see Mama Mia. Is there any talk or even
- 45:11Speaker 1: across your mind of taking your collection of amazing songs?
- 45:14Speaker 1: And because they touched so many emotions and they all
- 45:17Speaker 1: tell stories to Broadway, There's been a number of people
- 45:22Speaker 1: that are kind of come to me here and there,
- 45:24Speaker 1: and I just haven't acted on it yet because I
- 45:26Speaker 1: haven't some the right the hit or the right idea
- 45:30Speaker 1: for um and uh. And that's a lot of a
- 45:33Speaker 1: lot of time that you have to put into that
- 45:34Speaker 1: to make that right. So and if I'm going to
- 45:36Speaker 1: do it, I want to it's gonna be right. And
- 45:38Speaker 1: it means that you have to have time to put
- 45:39Speaker 1: into it. Yeah. Cool, because because because because it just
- 45:43Speaker 1: seems like it's one of the obvious pictures. And I
- 45:45Speaker 1: know what you're saying, don't come to do something that's obvious.
- 45:48Speaker 1: What what what's the plane, what's the story? So it
- 45:51Speaker 1: makes sense to me. If it makes sense to me
- 45:52Speaker 1: and I got the time to do it, then guess what,
- 45:54Speaker 1: I do it because guess what, I'm a creative person
- 45:57Speaker 1: and I know and I understand my music history in
- 46:00Speaker 1: my music legacy. But you want to put it out
- 46:02Speaker 1: there right correct? Yes? Now, what's coming up on these tours? Man?
- 46:06Speaker 1: What we're gonna see you? You're on the road a
- 46:08Speaker 1: lot lately at this month and next month? What's going on? Brother? Yeah,
- 46:11Speaker 1: I'm I'm out. I'm in Philly this Thursday, Philly, and uh,
- 46:16Speaker 1: I'm in Brooklyn and uh Coney Island on Friday, and
- 46:21Speaker 1: the Columbia, Maryland on Saturday, and then I think next
- 46:25Speaker 1: week I got some more dates coming up. So I'm
- 46:27Speaker 1: kind of in and out. I always like to do
- 46:28Speaker 1: these like weekend warrior dates where you kind of go
- 46:31Speaker 1: in and out. So because I still do work in
- 46:33Speaker 1: the studio, and I just finished doing uh Johnny Mathis
- 46:37Speaker 1: album and UM and now working on an album with
- 46:41Speaker 1: myself and still working with a lot of new younger
- 46:43Speaker 1: artists too, so I gotta kind of kind of go
- 46:46Speaker 1: in and out, hit hit and quit it now you said,
- 46:48Speaker 1: did you say, Johnny Mathis, I did. I'll achieve something, man,
- 46:52Speaker 1: when I come to l A. So always funny because
- 46:55Speaker 1: I stayed in the comment the hotel. When I come
- 46:57Speaker 1: to l A and I will get up, everything's always magical.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Every time I would get up and go work out
- 47:02Speaker 1: in the gym about six o'clock in the morning, Johnny
- 47:05Speaker 1: Mathis was always in there working out, always in there working,
- 47:10Speaker 1: working there with two guys. It's always with two guys
- 47:11Speaker 1: in there working out. And UH had a great conversation
- 47:14Speaker 1: with him, man. And and the fact that you're telling
- 47:17Speaker 1: me today you're working with him means that, guess what,
- 47:19Speaker 1: He's a machine and he has something today he has
- 47:22Speaker 1: to say. So when we look at somebody like Johnny Mathis,
- 47:25Speaker 1: what when you start talking about music because you've seen
- 47:27Speaker 1: you listen to them, what what? What? What? What? What
- 47:30Speaker 1: are you trying to convey us? A writer for him? Well, unfortunately,
- 47:35Speaker 1: the Johnny Mathis Project is an album that worked with
- 47:39Speaker 1: Clid David song where we put together UH songs of
- 47:43Speaker 1: the past in the past twenty years. So he's doing
- 47:48Speaker 1: the song he's done. He's doing like I believe I
- 47:50Speaker 1: can fly right he's doing like he raised me up right,
- 47:54Speaker 1: and he's uh so, he's he's done a collection the
- 47:56Speaker 1: songs without ten songs where he's singing the songs and
- 47:59Speaker 1: he's sounding he sounds amazing, years old and still kicking it.
- 48:06Speaker 1: And it looks great, sounds great. And that's that's who
- 48:10Speaker 1: and where I want to be at that age too. Well,
- 48:13Speaker 1: you look good. You know that that you look good.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Believe me, it's an amazing man, when I get to
- 48:18Speaker 1: see because all these people only see you as a star.
- 48:21Speaker 1: They se using it and you are man, you are,
- 48:23Speaker 1: don't I know you? You know you're You're a very
- 48:26Speaker 1: humble guy. That's one thing I take away every time
- 48:28Speaker 1: I had the pleasure of meeting you, with you, being
- 48:31Speaker 1: in the room with you, is that you're very respectful
- 48:34Speaker 1: for the talent of the round you. You treat your
- 48:35Speaker 1: staff one level. You know, you don't. You don't sing
- 48:38Speaker 1: about anybody. That's important to having the right people around
- 48:42Speaker 1: your Like Susan, you know who's my contact for you,
- 48:44Speaker 1: She's fantastic. It's important. Now you just want to let
- 48:47Speaker 1: people know that and you should. Can you let people
- 48:50Speaker 1: know the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. Well,
- 48:54Speaker 1: I think in business, you's it's hard to be in
- 48:59Speaker 1: this business and and not step on somebody's toes at
- 49:02Speaker 1: some point, at some point you're gonna you're gonna have
- 49:06Speaker 1: a disagreement and things are gonna be aren't always going
- 49:10Speaker 1: to go that way. But as long as you do
- 49:11Speaker 1: it respectfully and and you're you're honest about it and
- 49:15Speaker 1: straightforward about it, then then people will respect you. I
- 49:18Speaker 1: pride myself and being in this business as long as
- 49:20Speaker 1: I've been and not really have any enemies. Um, and
- 49:25Speaker 1: that allows you to return to places. Um, you have
- 49:29Speaker 1: to be careful if you if you're kind of like,
- 49:32Speaker 1: you know, kind of stepping on everybody all along the way,
- 49:35Speaker 1: and then if if if, and we all go through
- 49:39Speaker 1: ups and downs. You know, nobody's at the top all
- 49:42Speaker 1: the time, so you know at some point that person
- 49:47Speaker 1: that you stepped on might be the person might help
- 49:49Speaker 1: you get to the next step. So um, so you
- 49:51Speaker 1: should always be careful of that. My man, Um, I
- 49:55Speaker 1: have a project I'm gonna bring to you and I'm
- 49:59Speaker 1: running I sue them suser sitting all We're gonna be
- 50:02Speaker 1: done with it because she's I don't I don't. I
- 50:04Speaker 1: don't buy pass who I talked to on a regular basis,
- 50:07Speaker 1: but man, I want to I want to thank you
- 50:08Speaker 1: for taking the time. I know she's always been trying
- 50:10Speaker 1: to get us together and connect. We're connecting the radio,
- 50:13Speaker 1: but I'd love to sit down in person with you,
- 50:14Speaker 1: just to chop up some things, some visions I have.
- 50:17Speaker 1: You tell me some of your vision and see if
- 50:18Speaker 1: we can work together. Is that cool? Hey? Man? Thank you?
- 50:22Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen. Please, uh he's great. If you want
- 50:24Speaker 1: to get some of these tickets to see him on too,
- 50:26Speaker 1: go to ticket nap ticket master goes ticket masters dot
- 50:28Speaker 1: com right now, go to ticket master dot com. If
- 50:31Speaker 1: you've not seen him on two, you gotta see him
- 50:32Speaker 1: on tour. Amazing talent, you've heard him. A wonderful man.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Please nice round of the floyd from my man, Kenny

- 50:44Speaker 1: his roles on the sitcom's Sister Sister and the BT

- 50:52Speaker 1: critically acclaimed role and arguably one of the strongest African
- 50:57Speaker 1: American characters on television and stars Survivors Remorse, Please welcome
- 51:01Speaker 1: to money making conversations, Run Rico, Lee Wowick for for
- 51:09Speaker 1: a boy, you have to be listed, but I know

- 51:24Speaker 1: lot to talk about, because it's a journey that you

- 51:31Speaker 1: entrepreneur in the career in the field of entertainment. And
- 51:34Speaker 1: and there's a show I'm gonna just tell you something, um,
- 51:38Speaker 1: Survivor's Remorse. First of all, just tell me what does
- 51:42Speaker 1: that title mean before we get into the ny detail.
- 51:44Speaker 1: What does that title meaning, Survivor's Remorse. Well, it's funny
- 51:48Speaker 1: because that the show's inception. Obviously, this show is is
- 51:51Speaker 1: ultimately the brainchild of Lebron James and Maverick Carter. And
- 51:55Speaker 1: as they've experienced success, and my goodness, they've experienced it
- 51:59Speaker 1: to such a great degree. Uh, they've often referred to
- 52:03Speaker 1: this feeling of having remorse because they've survived, survived their circumstances,
- 52:08Speaker 1: and they've often felt this pool to go back and
- 52:11Speaker 1: to help and feel bad when they can't do everything
- 52:13Speaker 1: for everybody. So that's where the show's title comes from.
- 52:16Speaker 1: It really ultimately comes from them and a feeling that
- 52:19Speaker 1: they've had over the years as they've grown and expanded
- 52:23Speaker 1: their territory, and so they've often felt this Survivor's remorse. Okay,
- 52:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna just tell you this right now, I'm talking
- 52:29Speaker 1: to I'm interviewed right now, Rico Lea on one of
- 52:32Speaker 1: the true stars of the star series Survivor's Remorse. Ro Rico,
- 52:37Speaker 1: you can talk to me about this show. I know
- 52:39Speaker 1: you're serious. I watched this series, so anything you want
- 52:42Speaker 1: to talk about, you can bring it up to me.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I know all the characters. I'm not one of those
- 52:45Speaker 1: guys just bring you on the radio. Know a little bit.
- 52:48Speaker 1: I watched this serious. In fact, my wife cried on
- 52:52Speaker 1: the on the episode after If people I'm gonna do it,
- 52:56Speaker 1: if they haven't seen this series, I gotta tell you this.
- 52:58Speaker 1: The mic EP episode after everybody was in the hospital,
- 53:00Speaker 1: my wife cried on that episode. I look back at it,
- 53:03Speaker 1: I go, you got to be kidding me. Episodes like this.
- 53:09Speaker 1: It's just that, so you could talk to me about
- 53:11Speaker 1: this seriously. I want to talk to you about this
- 53:12Speaker 1: series and other things that you're doing in your life,
- 53:15Speaker 1: but also the fact that when you when you get
- 53:17Speaker 1: a character like this man, and I'm gonna just tell
- 53:19Speaker 1: you what I'm gonna just tell you when I watch you, man,
- 53:22Speaker 1: you know, it's like impressive brother and and and and
- 53:27Speaker 1: and and their layers in it, and I want you
- 53:30Speaker 1: to tell me about it because some of them remind
- 53:32Speaker 1: me of me when I when in my early years
- 53:35Speaker 1: of managing Steve Harvey, because I was angry a lot,
- 53:39Speaker 1: because I had nowhere to turn because everybody looked at
- 53:43Speaker 1: me for information and sometimes I didn't have the information.
- 53:47Speaker 1: And if you and you, if you're looking, if you're
- 53:49Speaker 1: perceived to be the answer man. Plus you know, I
- 53:53Speaker 1: managed him in l A. So I was constanly surrounded
- 53:55Speaker 1: by you know that that the gang world, you know,
- 53:57Speaker 1: because everybody came to us. And so I see you
- 54:00Speaker 1: step in and out of that a lot, and so
- 54:03Speaker 1: so the the drain on that character for you emotionally
- 54:07Speaker 1: tell me about it. You know, it's it's tough man,
- 54:11Speaker 1: and and the funny thing and people may or may
- 54:13Speaker 1: not know, but you know, Rashawn was you know, you
- 54:16Speaker 1: and I worked together when I first moved to l A.
- 54:18Speaker 1: And I had so much to learn. And so I
- 54:20Speaker 1: look back and the late nineties to taken on a role,
- 54:24Speaker 1: to taken on a role like this and all honesty, man,
- 54:27Speaker 1: if the way God works, if God has shown me
- 54:30Speaker 1: the amount of responsibility that the page count, the emotional
- 54:34Speaker 1: uh depths I'd have to go to for this role.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I don't know if I would have accepted it early on,
- 54:39Speaker 1: just because I wasn't a percent sure that it was
- 54:42Speaker 1: in me. But having said that God never gets anything
- 54:45Speaker 1: that you can't handle, it has truly been beyond the
- 54:48Speaker 1: blessing for me to explore this character, to be given
- 54:52Speaker 1: the free range to really explore it and go deep.
- 54:54Speaker 1: They've challenged me on so many different levels and really, uh,
- 54:58Speaker 1: you know, just taught me that there was an artists
- 55:02Speaker 1: in me that I ain't even know it was there.
- 55:04Speaker 1: And um and and that's really what this role has been.
- 55:07Speaker 1: You know, the feedback, the you know, the lack of
- 55:11Speaker 1: positive African American males on television and movies. Uh, you know,
- 55:16Speaker 1: it being able to portray this character and get the
- 55:19Speaker 1: type of love that I get from the community is
- 55:22Speaker 1: a reward that it's just I can't even begin to
- 55:25Speaker 1: tell you. Um, it just feels really great and um
- 55:29Speaker 1: and it's just a testament to you know, uh enduring
- 55:32Speaker 1: the the you know this bi business in peace the
- 55:35Speaker 1: valley and uh, you know, there's far more valleys than
- 55:38Speaker 1: there are peaks. So when you can get to a
- 55:41Speaker 1: role like this and and be given the free rein
- 55:43Speaker 1: to dig in, Uh, it's just truly a bus and
- 55:45Speaker 1: truly an honor. Right. You know. It's funny because he
- 55:48Speaker 1: ron Rico mentioned my name early in his career and
- 55:51Speaker 1: just gets just let's go a little deeper on that one,
- 55:54Speaker 1: is that I was young producer writer on the series
- 55:57Speaker 1: Sister Sister, and UH had the opportunity to be in
- 56:00Speaker 1: the casting room and cast him to be one of
- 56:03Speaker 1: the love interests for one of the trends to the
- 56:05Speaker 1: character there was Tarik Scott and and the thing about
- 56:08Speaker 1: it and we develop a relationship off camera when he
- 56:11Speaker 1: would talk to me and come to me and he
- 56:14Speaker 1: and one of the things that always always trip me
- 56:18Speaker 1: out about him was he always wanted to know what
- 56:20Speaker 1: to do with his money. Yeah, he come serious story.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Now you come to my time, how we sit down?
- 56:26Speaker 1: He's can I come out and talk to you? Because
- 56:28Speaker 1: you know, I'm making a little money. I don't want
- 56:30Speaker 1: to mess it up, and you know, and young actors
- 56:33Speaker 1: don't do that, which means that he always had a
- 56:35Speaker 1: plan that this was gonna be his career and he
- 56:38Speaker 1: didn't want to mess it up, and he wanted to
- 56:40Speaker 1: know what the money he made, what to do with it?
- 56:43Speaker 1: What was the vote philosophy back then? Because I love
- 56:46Speaker 1: the fact that you know I'm now doing and that's
- 56:48Speaker 1: been my crusade now is telling people how they advanced,
- 56:51Speaker 1: how to tell people to move their careers forward. And
- 56:54Speaker 1: I basically was doing this as a hobby way back then.
- 56:58Speaker 1: I wanted to say, you were my first plient, and
- 57:02Speaker 1: you know what, I'm proud to be your first client. Man.
- 57:05Speaker 1: I remember that day in Park Libre when I met you.
- 57:08Speaker 1: We went and had lunch. You took me to a hairline,
- 57:10Speaker 1: Bells for the first time, and uh, and then we
- 57:14Speaker 1: went down to Santiago. You took me down to your
- 57:16Speaker 1: one of your tailors and uh we But really, what
- 57:19Speaker 1: I remember sitting down in in in your townhouse, and
- 57:23Speaker 1: I remember we got you got the newspaper and we
- 57:25Speaker 1: started looking at stocks and I remember at the time
- 57:28Speaker 1: you were very very heavy on a O. L. It
- 57:30Speaker 1: always stands out and taught me how to look at
- 57:32Speaker 1: those stocks. Um and um. You know. It was just
- 57:36Speaker 1: you had something uh aura about you that really drew
- 57:40Speaker 1: me to you. And the beauty of you was that
- 57:42Speaker 1: you made time, made time and you and I said
- 57:46Speaker 1: it in a post earlier today, man sees that you
- 57:49Speaker 1: sold you. You so season me that I still to
- 57:53Speaker 1: this day, uh reap the benefits of things that you
- 57:56Speaker 1: taught me, things that you just in terms of how
- 57:58Speaker 1: you have never was again you said, man, never give
- 58:00Speaker 1: l A your money. I was always amazing fact that
- 58:02Speaker 1: you had a place in l A, but your base
- 58:05Speaker 1: was still in Houston. I'll save you had a whole system.
- 58:08Speaker 1: You had. You had a really nice vehicle that you
- 58:10Speaker 1: drove the work, you know, Monday through Friday. After we
- 58:13Speaker 1: take you had a Suzuki side kick out believe that
- 58:15Speaker 1: you would drive to the airport. And I remember thinking like,
- 58:19Speaker 1: wait a minute, you mean it's possible for me to
- 58:22Speaker 1: go back to where I was raised and still be
- 58:25Speaker 1: able to have a career in l A. And my
- 58:28Speaker 1: my goal from that moment on was to do whatever
- 58:31Speaker 1: I had to do to make sure that when it
- 58:33Speaker 1: came kind of settle down to buy a house, to
- 58:35Speaker 1: get me have kids, I would be able to do
- 58:38Speaker 1: you know that in Georgia because what Houston was, you
- 58:41Speaker 1: Georgia was for me. Uh you know, man, what you
- 58:44Speaker 1: the time you took from me back then again, Man,
- 58:47Speaker 1: I was early twenties. We're talking, you know, two decades later, Man,
- 58:51Speaker 1: I am still still drawing from that information, still drawing
- 58:56Speaker 1: from that knowledge, Man, and I just had. And that's
- 58:58Speaker 1: just you know, that's just the business side. There were
- 59:01Speaker 1: things you imparted to me as an artist that I
- 59:04Speaker 1: steal to this day. You know, I never forget. Man.
- 59:07Speaker 1: You probably don't remember this, but you know, when I
- 59:09Speaker 1: started on Sister Sister, Sister Sister was the first four
- 59:11Speaker 1: cameras show I've ever done. It was really the first
- 59:14Speaker 1: comedy I've ever done. And so for a lot of
- 59:16Speaker 1: actors when you're when you come into that comedy where
- 59:19Speaker 1: you're still trying to get your feelings, you know, you're
- 59:21Speaker 1: kind of trying to find your footing. And I remember
- 59:24Speaker 1: you guys cast Dion Richmond opposite right at the same time,
- 59:27Speaker 1: Dian and I got cast the Cosby show, Yes, and
- 59:31Speaker 1: and came up in a in a you know, under
- 59:33Speaker 1: the tulage of a comedic genius with Bill Cosby. And
- 59:37Speaker 1: so I found myself and you noticed that what I
- 59:39Speaker 1: started doing was kind of aligning my comedy with Dean's comedy.
- 59:43Speaker 1: I'll never forget this. May or may not remember. We
- 59:45Speaker 1: was at craft service. You just can't tap me to
- 59:47Speaker 1: shows and let me touch you for a second. We
- 59:49Speaker 1: when and we sat down and basically what you were
- 59:52Speaker 1: saying to me was find your own voice. You know,
- 59:55Speaker 1: we've brought Dion in to do what Dion does. We
- 59:59Speaker 1: don't need you to do what Dan. We need you
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: to do what you do. And I remember feeling I'm
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: not only I remember initially feeling hurt because as an
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: actor you're sensitive trap ya. But the more I thought
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: about it, man, it was some of the most vital
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: information that has ever been imparted on me because what
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: it urged me to do, what it pushed me to do,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: was to create what was my funny, not somebody else's funny.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: And uh man, So I just want you to know
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: that not only from a business standpoint of financial standpoint,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: but just from a career standpoint. Man, you also imparted
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: knowledge and so sees in me that to this day
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: I still draw upon me And I've never told you
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: thank you for that, but I appreciate it, man, because
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: you could have very easily allowed me to continue down
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: that path. And you know I never would have developed
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: my own voice but you. But you took that time out, man,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: and that's a that's something God gave you, man, and
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: it's it's listen if you're If you've been a blessing
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: to me, I can only imagine the the other people,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: the thousands and thousands of other people that you've been
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: a blessing to. Man, So I thank you about my heart,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: he Enrico. I appreciate you because when I've asked you
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: to come to the Neighborhood Awards the Uplift everyday people,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: You've shown up and I know your schedule is busy,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: and the thing about it, Man, I appreciate everything that
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: you're saying about me. I appreciate the fact that you
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: have become the man that I knew you could become.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: And when I watched and I watched the series survivor's
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: remarks if it premiers this Sunday, August twinter Um from
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: m Chuck. You know, to Cam's character, it's not about
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: them playing on the basketball courts, their lives off the court,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: you know, the new character Chin his character, and then
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: the diversity of the cast, your wife, Missy, you know,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: it's really what it is. Is there, they're they're they're
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: from the Boston area, Dorchester, Boston area, and they moved
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: down to Atlanta, Georgia. That's the setting. And he plays
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: for the Atlanta Hawks, Okay, and the owner the team
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: is in their lives and in fact, let's look I wanted.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just building the picture for everybody who
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: may have not seen the show. Because the one thing
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: I like about the show, and this's just this. The
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: thing about it's a great show to bend watch. It's
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: a great show to bend watch if you have not.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: It is going into season four. And the great thing
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: about it is that this show will make you cry,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: and this show will make you laugh in the very
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: next scene, will make you angry. It will make you understand,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: you know, I think you understand relationships. Here to make
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: you understand the lesbian gay community, and to make you
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: feel sympathy for everybody who has uh an emotional plan
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: in life that may not go right, even though they
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: even though we all wanted to right go right. One
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: of my favorite they're telling me, you got to go
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: to commercial. Rico hold on, man, because I got because
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: you know the Jupiter character, the Sean Hey, come on back,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: I got my maver Rico League star of the stars
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: series Survivors Remorse. We'll be back with more money made conversations.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: He just did a testimony for me in the first act.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: The second act, that's gonna be a second break. When
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: we come back, we're gonna talk about his career, where
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: he's going. You want to be a director. He's the
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: father two sons, but more importantly, he is Enrico Leacause, Hi,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I'm back to the Sean McDonald of money making conversations
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I have on the phone. One of the stars of
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Survivor's Remorse. It premiers August twenty. Guest stars this upcoming
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: season will be my man, Isaiah Washington. He would be
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: playing Cam's father, DJ Cally, Isaiah Whitlock, Vanessa Bell Callaway.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: This is some of the stars that will be, you know,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: stepping in playing different roles on Survivor's Remorse this season.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: But this right now, I got one of the stars
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: on The Old Friend, a person I'm so proud of
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: just because what he's doing on the on the TV
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: screen right now, it's amazing. It's amazing. I'm telling you.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: When I've been i've been casting people, I've been watching people.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I've been fortunate to produce hit movies, he TV, hit
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: TV shows, and to watch a talent like ron Rico
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Lee do his thing effortlessly, effently, it's amazing and I'm
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: blessed to have him on the call right now. Uh, Rodrico,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: you still have my friend? Okay, tell me about this
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: the Father episode, Brother whoa Go? The Father episode? Come on, man,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: oh tay you something man that episode and I'm gonna
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: let you talk because I want you to break down
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: the steps because that had to be one of those
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: episodes where you had to go there emotionally and when
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: you wrapped up, you couldn't do too many retakes because
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: in the basement boxing and your girl coming down the
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: steps and you throw out that little cute little Joe
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: going up the steps. Nice Teddy, come on now, tell
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: us about that episode. Man, let everybody know why they
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: should be watching Survivors Remorse. That premier is this Sunday,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: August twenty on stars and yet it also stars mcgirl
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: to Sheina Arnold, who will be on the show later
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: on today. Um, you know, listen, Savirus Morris is one
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: of those shows that it's unlike anything on television right
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: now in my opinion, and um, you know, it's we've
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: been fortunate enough to to grow and it's kind of
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: been a slow boy. When you look at the numbers, man,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: they've really Man, we've really, really really been blessed to
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: have the numbers just they all I think they they
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: they almost you know, doubled by over from I think
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: second to Thursday. So we were continually growing. People are
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: finding out about the show, people like you, you know,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: talking us up having the show. It raises awareness of
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: the show. I think the episode that you're you're speaking
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: to with the season finale last year, and in all honesty, uh,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: they had given me some indication early on of of
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: that particular scene, but it was a couple of years ago,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: and so as an actor, you kind of you know
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: you're taking it. You go all right, but if it happens,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: it happens. If it doesn't, So when it didn't happen,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: I kind of got away from it and uh and
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: and never thought about it. And then two weeks before
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: we shot, maybe a week before we were scheduled to
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: shoot the Zega, Bruster put me aside and say, hey, man,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: we're putting this scene back in. I was like, WHOA.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: So uh. You know, as a lot of people don't know,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: when you get into the the weekly grind of making
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: a television show, you know, it's every week it's a
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: new episode, and so it becomes difficult to prepare because
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: you're you know, you you're shooting one episode. You gotta
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: be thinking about the next episode, but you can't afford
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: to not think about the current episode. So it was
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: a lot. It was. It was a lot. It was.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: It was quite the challenge. Uh and uh. You know,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: the one thing I did do was I was very
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: much uh in the noah as to how they wanted
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: to shoot it. And so there were a couple of
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: things that I just asked for that I felt would
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: help me and just kind of in shooting it, and
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: that we didn't We didn't do a whole lot of coverage.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: We just simply kind of we got in there and um,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: we kind of broke it down. I think I did
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: it one time, all the way through with this fact
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: and we kind of broke it down. They gave me
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: a couple of points and I told them, I said,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: looking for some reason, it's not feeling cohesive to break
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: it down. We'll just go straight through it. You know,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: it worked out that way. Um, I think to go there.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: People always asked me, I mean, listen, when that episode aired,
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: my d m s, whether it's Facebook and grand Twitter,
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: were just literal with people that had similar, uh you know,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: similar experience, and I was really surprised by the women
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: that were raising children that that we're having similar experiences.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: Solve was getting it not only from young men, older
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: men that relate to it. I was also getting it
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: from women that were ultimately affected by the absence of
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: fathers in their in their son's lives. And so for me,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: growing up in a two pair of household with a
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: father that I absolutely adore, it was very, very difficult.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: And so for the first time, I think I actually
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: work with a work with an acting coach, and uh,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: and we broke it down over the course of mab Yeah,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: what it was, and more importantly, how I could get
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: there and stay there and um and and and be
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: present throughout that because again, people see what ultimately equation
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: to eight and I maybe ten minutes of on screen,
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: but it's probably boils down to about four and a
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: half hours of actually feeling. That's a long time, you know,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: to to have to sustain. Uh, and so you have
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: to be aware of it. So that day, Uh, you know,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: I just really tried to stay to myself, um, but
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: not too much. You know, I didn't want to just
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: be isolated. But but yeah, you know, I'm how to
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: prayer a lot of just kind of letting go and
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: just kind of yielding to what this experience was. You know, Now,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: I am a father, and a lot of what I
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: was able to draw upon it. I'm a father. I
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: got two boys, and so what I was able to
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: really do is kind of substitute. You know, what if
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: I wasn't my boy's father, what if my what what
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: if my children's father was like the guy that I'm
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: sitting across this table looking from and and and and
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: you know, digging into and so once we you know,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: we had to go through a couple of things to
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: figure out what would kind of ignite that thing in me.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: And and we found out it would be trying to
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: imagine my children being raised by an abusive father. Uh
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: and and not being there, not being present and uh
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: And as soon as we kind of hit that, uh,
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: you know, a lot of times, I think when it
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: comes down and the kids, you know, we always think
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: of women being you know, the mothers being very protective
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: emotionally and physically of their child, but actually fathers carry
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: that same trade. And we we you know, we want
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: to protect our children, we want to you know, love
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: our children. And so in the absence of being able
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: to do that or imagine my kid's life, you know,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: without that type of protection, and then you add on abuse,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: and you add on all the other things that Reggie
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: talked about in that scene, it became very easy to
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: go there. Yeah, it was two things that really stood
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: out for being the scene we're talking about a scene
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: in the series Survivors Remorse where Reggie meets his father,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: uh and his father and it's not a very h
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: happy meeting because his father is trying to trying to
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: get back in good graces without Hey, hey, I'll recover.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: I'm not trying to reveal any of this scene to anybody,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: but just give you the nuances of what this scene
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: is all about. But there were two things in this scene.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: In this scene that made it a brilliant scene to me.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: One was when the waitress kept coming into the scene
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: and you said not right now, which is a classic
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: scene that I've had when I'm doing business in the restaurant,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: and I went, wow, man, that was brilliant, toy. Have
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: this waitress come in here and you didn't break try
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: anywhere right now, be with you in a minute, not
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: right there, be with you in a minute. Twice she
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: came in. And the other great moment in that scene
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: which when you was patting your dad on his back,
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: dud dude, because the path they kind of kind of
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: got a little heavy and then you pulled up. So
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: so I like to know when that scene and then
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: what did he say about those paths on this back? Uh?
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: You know, Marlon Young is a great actor. I've been
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: a fan of his work for years and he's very
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: much one of those actors. He didn't want me to
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: to pull pull pull back, man. He needed to feel
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: it you know, he's one of those actors and he
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: was certainly there for me emotionally made himself available. But no,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: you know it was it was weird. Even writing to
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: the set, you know, he and I had very little interactions.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Uh you know, we kind of wanted this thing to
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: feel like a father and son that hadn't seen each
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: other and you know, twenty many years, eighteen twenty years.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: But you know, afterwards it was just um, you know
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: it was it was just one of those things, man,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: where two performers get together and they connect and it
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: just becomes about the material. But yeah, no, the pat
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: wanted him is hard. You know, he's hard. I could
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: stand him. That's what he wanted, and that's what I
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: gave a brother. That scene was phenomenal. But I was
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: just gonna tell you, man, the characters that they developed
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: on this show, the Jupiter character, who was the football player,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: that the show character who was as managers slash pimp Flash,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I don't know what it was. Uh, tell us about
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: the upcoming season, man, because I'm seeing the promos and
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: you're getting in the fight here, look like you're going
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: back into the streets a little bit. Tell us about
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: the upcoming season here f Rico, Uh, well, you know, listen,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: we got we got ten episodes to cover a lot,
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of territory. So I think
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: we do just that. The show, if you look back
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: on the first season to show us continued to evolve, thankfully,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: our audiences continued to embrace us. Hopefully that will continue,
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: because that's the best way to ensure we get subsequent
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: seasons five, six, hey, who knows, seven and eight. But
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: but I think this season will continue to continue to
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: see uh, you see less of the family dynamic. And
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I just say that. When I say that, I mean
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: you don't see as much of the family together, and
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: everybody kind of in their own worlds, dealing with their
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: own issues and just trying to kind of hell find
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: exactly perfect perfect find themselves. You know. For Reggie, you know,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: the situation with his father is something that we don't
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: dwell on that much this season. But what we really
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: see with him is she's trying to continue to grow
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: that legacy and and and so not actually what he's
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: really trying to do this year is focus more so
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: on the Vons he and Missy's legacy, uh and and
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: the and the the thing that happens this season is,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: you know, what he kind of envisions for his future
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: kind of bump heads with what Cam sees and the
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: very interesting dynamic between the two of them. Uh. To
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: Sheina Arnold's character, Uh, Cassie goes on a spiritual journey. Uh.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: You know, Cam continues his feeling uh, you know, continues
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: his work to his foundation. He's still growing, and we
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: watched him actually take a very prominent role uh kind
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: of in what serves as our players union on the show.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Um Im Chuck continues to dig deep into her past
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: and feel uh, and Missy does the Missy still on
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: that same trajectory of really trying to make sure that
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: when Cam's career end, Reggie's career doesn't end. And so
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: you know, collectively, everybody's just kind of on their own
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: separate journey. Um. And it's you know, it's been a
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: it's been a testament to the writers to kind of
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: take a show and kind of deviate from its initial inception.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: I think when it was first sold, it was sold
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: as a thirty minute sitcom, and it's become it's become
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: much more than that, and it really is, it really
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: is and sadly, you know, there are so few of
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: those that they already categories for dramed ease. I think
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: if there were, you know, Survivor's Remorse would would get
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: even more critical acclaim than what it currently does. But
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: right now we're a show that I think UH will
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: spawn other shows in the future to say that just
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: because you're thirty minute comedy doesn't mean you can't really
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: delve deep into, you know, some real emotional storylines that
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: that will make people cry. But then on, like you said,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: a scene later will had you cracking up, laughing, like
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: my wife crying, you know, but it's for a good reason,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: because the characters are relatable. Ron Rico, Man, I thank
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: you for calling in on my show. And it's about
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: It's about careers, man, it's about the journey. And I
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: try to slow it down for individuals like you so
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: we can hear your story and we can hear the
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: you know, the the journey. And man, you're on a
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: great ride right now, ron Rico. I'm a I'm a
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: post on Sunday UH a banner telling everybody to watch
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: the show August twenty. That's a very competitive Sunday we
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: all know, and a man call out some time, y'all DVR.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: You know, if you have not seen the show, go
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: to on demand being watched. This is one of the
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: great great shows. And I'm gonna tell you something. When
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: you start ranking you know, black show, African American shows
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: in history. This is a top ten show. Oh brother,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: from my whole show is about survivors, Ramor's baby. If
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: they don't know, they're gonna know. Aboudy the Rashan McDonald's world.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Thank you for calling man, money Man come place. He's
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: a proud father to prod Rico Lee. My necklace is
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: a radio personality. He's an actor, motivational speaker, and well
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: known comedian. Please working the money make conversations the incredibly
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: funny earthquake. What's up theren money making conversation? Everybody right now.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: I can't lose these weights, all this weight off me,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: and you keep putting them cupcakes on there, just putting
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: down here and making all this good food, putting it
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: on my Instagram. I'm at a blocking boy. I'm a
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: first of all, first of all earthquake many years. Our
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: relationship is many years and many journeys. And when I
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: look at you, tell me about because you know, you
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: know we started, man, you know, it's just it's just
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: a website. You know, now you got social media. How
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: has that changed the game for you? The social media? Well,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: for me, I was to be honest at you, I
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: was a little late to the party. What's us Now
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: it's allowed me to talk to my to my audience
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: and you know where I came back from the time
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: me and you together. When the social media first came,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: the young comedians was on it, I was like, Man,
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: I'm not gonna sit here and tell my jokes out
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: for freaks. Man, I get hay for him, and I
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: known that that's what I should have did, was going
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: and get to him for free. And we made it
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: for him, set up for the better audience. Man, I'd
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: have been a lot farther than I am today. Boy.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: So you know, I'm still getting around to it, but
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: it's important. And they judged everything here out here in
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: l A. Now on your life. You followers, And what
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: I tell them is, man, when I tell them from
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: only for my professionals us being comedians, don't tell me
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: how many followers you got, Tell me how many comedians
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: can you follow? That's what we able to step you
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: step on that stage and go behind six or seven
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: bad comedians still hold that audience. I don't hear how
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: many followers you got. That's the fault. I want to know.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: You know, it's it's, it's it's interesting because you know
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: when you say that, because in two thousand and seven,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: that's when I remember, you know, Steve and I sat
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: down and we had this big old mailing list. We
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: had a million people are mailing list. I was trying
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: to ignore social media. In fact, I was ignoring social
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: media because I felt it was a lot of work.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Even though I saw Twitter on all the news anchors,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: I saw Twitter fees and facebooks on all the corporate
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: pages and everything. I was trying to ignore. So but
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: what I really discovered is that, like you said earlier,
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: in Hollywood, in the media, with advertisers another likes, they
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: deemed you just being topical. They deemed you as being
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: a person, an influencer. And you said, you come late
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: to the game. But guess what, the game ain't late
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: for you because you understand the important because the first
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: thing out your mouth was talking about social media. Yeah,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's, it's, it's it's amazing that you
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: can just go out here and touch and talk to
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: everybody and they can touch it, and you can put
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: your point of view in which we have a unique one.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I said, we're the third eye, you know what I mean.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: We made we made what's plem So now you could
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: talk to him and were reven you know, and with
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: anything you got, good or bad. But it's it's working
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: for me now. And that's why. Yeah, because I got
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: some more on the show today too, and it's the
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: same conversation I'm gonna have with her about social media
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: because we know it's a beast out there, Like Kevin
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: Hard is a beast and social media and then you
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: have he's a beast, he's learned to go. This is
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: the business side of Kevin Hard, and this is the
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: funniest side of Kevin Hard. Then you have people who
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: we don't even know that out there there, young comedians.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: They got four or five million followers and I've never
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: heard of my life, but they are relevant because they
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: have that social media follower. That's the business side and
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: that's why I really started money making conversations and guess what,
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: I launched it on my Facebook page with your social media,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: and that's important under branding process. And that's really important
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: because I remember you you called me with Sean about
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: somebody says something negative on your Facebook page and you
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: would get wanted to get that straight. So it's an
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: important part of your brain correct earthquake. Yes, well it's
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: very important because I mean, you're entitled to your opinion,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: but you're not entited to your own facts. Yes, sir,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: when you when you say something about me, you need
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: to be fight sure, especially if you in this business
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: we call professional entertainment and platform and you out here
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: sitting here staking your opinion, and I'm I'm gonna, I'm gonna,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna challenge you with when you put brain my
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: name out your mouth. So you know I reached out
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: to you on that. But right now I'm getting into it.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: I'm not as hard as I I should be, but
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: I'm not kind of got it. This is what I
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: think today, this is what part of me, and try
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: to spread my brain even more. And as I try,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: what I'm about to do is get into more with
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: your professor with a grade at TV the movie. I'm
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: gonna get into it even more, Okay, because that's important
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: because I've seen you grow as a as in auditions,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: because I've been fortunate to be in the room. It
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: was casting opportunities that you walked into. And every time
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: I've seen you, you've gotten stronger and stronger as an actor.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Or I would tell you something. I can't act, so
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: so I can tell I tell everybody up front that
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: is what I do. You go what you're supposed to be.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: I remember, we can tell you can share this quick story.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: The way I an Earthquake is very true when you're
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: talking about who can you follow on stage, because because
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: that's how I met him. I had to follow Earthquake.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: And the club in Atlanta, Georgan it was Earthquake and
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: Buy five Comics. I would tell you something if if
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: if you ever heard put the fire on stage, lit
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: the stage on five, they don't lit the stage on five.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: They put it out and then they relt it and
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: then they said, you net. That's why I meant That's
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: how I met Earthquake because see, because the right there
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: I realized that I wasn't ready for what they were offering,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: and they and the and the great thing the body
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: was they were waiting to see me. It was so
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: much respect that they had booked me at this club.
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: They said, man, with Sean coming, So it wasn't It
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: wasn't like they did it out of disrespect. They were
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: just showing me their best and they go, okay with Sean,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: let's see what you got. And brother, I'm gonna tell
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: you something. It wasn't pretty for me. Earth Craig was
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: there here, know it was not ready. I walked off
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: that stage. Look at it. I walked out that stage.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: I went to me a radio shock, I got me
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: a little recorder, and I just started working my act
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: in my dressing room. I ain't gonna get nothing to eat,
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: because that's what it's all about. Man. That stage that
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: defines who you are. Man, isn't that true? Yes? It is.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: And what we call it is the anchor. You know,
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: it's the anchor, especially when you're dealing with our people.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: They don't give you. But so many times, remember like
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: you said, they get the rock two times, you know,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: on that third rock, that boo coming right behind absolutely
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: in that chat and they look around and they're like, man,
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: I'm getting tired of this now. Now you you get
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: a strong, footholder radio. Do you want to get back
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: a radio? Yeah? I want. I want to get back
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: into radio my goal list. I mean, if you are already,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: I look at you and no comparison other than this
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: is like the trump Father did, put the pathway down
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: there for us to go. You and see has showed
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: how it is. I can if anything that's the same
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: way sit down here. You know. WBLS was great for me.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: It didn't give me the opportunity to be syndicated. I
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: didn't go on with in New York to be in
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: one radio. I wanted to do like y'all did. I
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: wanted to be this the afternoon Drive prepare, propelled myself
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: with a TV show, expand my brand and do different things.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: And I talked to my consumers in the morning, pulled
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: them to come watch me in the East. But that's
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: that's important to hear. But that's important because I want
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: to I want to hear that because of the fact
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: that you know, I'm always working, and you know, opportunities
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: always coming my way, and I am an earthquake fan.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: And I thought, and I feel the things you did
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: on radio were not only you know you profound. I said, profound.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: You had something to say. See's a lot of people
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: just funny, but you also articulate social issues, which I
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: thought was really important because it comes out in your
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: comedy anyway. Yes, yes, And my favorite joke right now
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: Trump be lying to us like we don't have Google.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Hey man, black people got Google now man. The thing
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: of body is that when you go political, when you
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: go social, when you go financial, the whole thing in
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: this whole world earthquake is for me to let you
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: know that, man, is that this is a relationship phone call,
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: but it's also a call phone call to help other
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: people understand how why you've been successful so long. The
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: fire is not that's not went away. And then there
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: are other options out there that are growing for you
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: that guess what you're about to hear about you on
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: a riset on a bigger level because you are constantly
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: building your brand. I mean you can listen succeptors determined
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: the bond your potential. You know. I get so tired
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: of people saying, man, I thought you would always be
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: here or you'll be there, and say I'm glad, I'm
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: glad you you expect that, but I'm still going. Every
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: day is a journey. It ain't over until they put
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: you down in the ground. Brother, you have describe every
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: day in your and your work ethic is the only
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: thing that separates you from other people that even have
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: an inkling of your count. You can have all the
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: talent in the world, but if your talent ain't with
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: your work ethic, it ain't going nowhere. And I just work, man,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: I work. I refreshed my job first. Make sure I
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: have a new fresh set every day from out there
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: so people who sees me get to see another show,
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: another differency in my growth. Learn things, man, because y'all work. Man,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: y'all work. Y'all used to beat the roosters up, but
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: guess what, we still beat the roosters up. And I'm
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: gonna just tell you that the great thing about life
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: is been out of sight, out of mind. Brother, you're
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: you're back on my radar. You'll be hearing from it
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: this week on a good conversation that I want to
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: extend beyond. Because you are super talent. I want to
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: thank you for calling in, not just talking to me,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: but letting people in the radio game, in the social
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: media game, understand how talent like you we'll be successful.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: How to sustain yourself And guess what, the game always
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: changes and you adjust correct, you're doing much and says,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: please have all your listeners. Follow me on Instagram at

- 1:27:09Speaker 1: on stage and have your act together as a comedian.
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: He's my maid the Real Earthquake. Follow him on Instagram
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: The Real Earthquake, Earthquake. Thank you, my brother. I gotta
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: bring it up. My next guest. You can call a

- 1:27:45Speaker 1: thank you. The whole world is waiting on the clip.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: Come on, now, come on now there out there. I
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: told at the top of the show you can look
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: up there, but it ain't gonna last long. You need
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: to be looking straight ahead. That's where your job opportunity
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: to and my and my am. I missing something. I
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: go outside. I don't know what to do. You know
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: you ain't missing nothing because I've I've been old enough
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: to experience a previous eclips where they told me to
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: put a penhole through a piece of paper and then
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: I can look at the sun, so I know, ain't
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: nothing up there. I insult nothing up there. Now they're
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: trying to make it like the dogs ain't gonna bark,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: the ant ain't gonna move, you know, the elephants gonna
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: look at each other strange. They just trying to make
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: a story up there and sell them glasses. I took
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: me three Vitamin D pills and I said, I'm good.
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: I don't know what else is gonna happen after that.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: Some more, I obol tell you some thank you for
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: calling on money making conversation. And really what this shows
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: about is that I'm not trying to put no pressure
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: because you're naturally funny anyway. It's really to help educate
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: people about being successful, that every road to success is
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: paid differently. And you know, and and and I've been
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: fortunate to see your journey and and I'm gonna say
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: this up top, is that you have created a raw
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: sex appeal and in the in the in the female
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: comedian drawing, youre that. I think it's very powerful. Am
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: I wrong in saying that? Um? That's that's cool. That's
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: cool to be your perspective. That's cool. I can accept
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: that that's nice because because we do not say that
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: it is that it is that it is, that it's
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: nothing wrong because you know, because a lot of people
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: think that you can't be be you know, you have
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: to be a certain way. You gotta be you know,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: closed baggy or you know, little clownish, a little google.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: You know, for a long time, Hollywood's perception of black
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: women being funny was fat black and on the track.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about. Come on, come on, it
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: was for for a long time that was just the perception.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: And you know, I think we're still breaking down stereotypes
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: with that. And uh, I just I just was here
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: to prove that we can be funny and and and
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: look all different types of ways now were now in
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: making that journey because you know, your success is you know,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: here's a you know, my older sister gonna always take
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: credit for discovering you're at the hip Hop Comedy Stop,
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: you know, because I would just tell you quick history
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: about some more and I I had a comedy club
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: into called the Hip Hop Comedy Stop, and and we
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: used to bring in unknown talent and then we made
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: our money on headliners that had a TV credits, and
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: my sister were coming in for a month. She coming
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: in with this videotape some more, some more, sit to
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: my club to get booked. I wasn't looking at it
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: at all. Finally I told her, Okay, I'm gonna just
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: book her. I'm just gonna book her if you just
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: leave me along, Caroline, I'm a book her. I'm gonna
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: tell you something. I booked some more. She blew the headline. Yeah,
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: it didn't even mean to do that. I mean, she was.
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: My club was in Houston, Floorda from Atlanta, Georgia, flord Flanda.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: She hit that stage and messed everybody up. And that
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: was the foundation for you being a star, you know,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: because you just had that natural gift to be great
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: and you've just carried it on. So here's the thing
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: that people didn't know before I became a stand up comedian.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: I was. I was a business owner, owned my own business.
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: I own my own store, and then I used to
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: be a a substitute algebra teacher. So days when I
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: wasn't working at my store, I would be I would
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: be in uh school in the high school's teaching. And
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: so before I became a comedian, I actually read a
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: book and I still tell people refer people to this
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: book today. It's called How to Be a Stand Up Comedian.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: I read the entire book. I did exactly what the
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: book said to do. I picked the persona that I
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: wanted to go on stage to have um even from
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: my name, my name, my real name is Lorie. I
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: couldn't go up there and talk to junk that I
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: was talking as Lori. So so I'm like, people ain't
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: gonna buy that Lori is this superhero. So I picked
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: the name and I said, if you give somebody something
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: good with what they want, they would want some more. Okay,
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: I'm going with some more. And that's and that's how
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: it happened. And I did exactly what the book said
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: to do. I wrote my material, I stuck to my persona.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: I worked on my delivery and it worked. But it
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: was a business I approached it from a business perspective
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: because your degrees in mathematics, correct, right, My degree is
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: in business administration of minor and mathematics. Okay, because my
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: degree is in mathematics. And the reason I bring that
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: up because it is a certain analytical behavior that you have.
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: You know, too pless too is always four and so
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: if you and that means your planner, and that really
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: I'm this is the first time I've heard your stories.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: Many times we talked, and it's not we share the stage.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: That explains to me how your pattern of success, how
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: you've always been a forward moving person. And I plan
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: everything I write. I write notes every night before I
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: go to bed my day what I'm gonna do the
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: next day. I have to plan. I am. I am
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: a planner. I have to. I have to. I believe
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: in structure, right, and I really do. And then with that,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: with that, with that structure. So so because you've done
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: certain things, I think that's been really important. You know,
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: your headline tool and then something towards you. Her host
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: is the strategy and the hosting versus the headlining. Here yeah, okay,
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: here here's the thing. First of all, I love stand
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: Up Stand Up. It stole my heart, like I loved it,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: and I loved it from the time the first time
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: I've ever seen Joan Rivers. I swear to you like
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: I was just in awe, in awe of the of
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: the whole world of stand up. Like I said, I
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: studied it and for me, it's about the show, about
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: it being a good show. It's never about just me
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: as a performer. I want people to say, oh, that
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: was a great show. So I always am concerned about
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: my positioning on the show. You know one thing that
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: people never understood with Deaf Comedy Jam when they would
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: see people have bad sets on Death Comedy Jam, and
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: they never realized that sometime it was the positioning the
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: way people position or what you didn't know is that
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: the and stood outside for two hours to get in.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: It was cold, it was raining, They're in a bad
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: mood already, you know, would stand up. There's so many
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: elements that go into your performance being successful. It really
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: it really, it's like you know this, You know that
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: that you're right on the money when you're talking about attitude,
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: talking about positioning, and about taking advantage of things that
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: have presented to you. For instance, here Naty two, I'm
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: telling you this, this young lady. You know, I would
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: have had to be forced to be on my comedy
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: close stage because because I didn't want to take the
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: time to put on stage. And guess what, I didn't
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: think I had time. I never heard of some more
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: like you just told you just made the name up,
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: you know, and so she blowed my stage away, and
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: then what two years later he was the first female
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: host of BTS Comic View Exactly Wow, which was strategic
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: in what I wanted to do, Like I really made
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: a lot of lot of strategic moves, even down to
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: you know, like I still twenty five years in the business.
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: I go on stage with a list, a comedy list,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: and people always say, well, why you just don't go
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: up in freestyle? I can. I care about the quality
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: of the show. I care about the quality of the show,
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: like I know the theme of this presentation that I
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: am going to give you all some kind of way,
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: all of these jokes will mesh with the overall theme
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: of the show, Like I'm that deep with it when
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: it comes to doing stand up. But that's where a
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: lot of people miss is that they don't take the
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: business side of life. And my whole, my whole thing
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: I tell people when they listen to the show and
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: watch the show on Facebook is that your story can
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: be applied in so many different layers of life. You
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: just happy to tell jokes because you're talking about you know,
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: planning your success. You're talking about hey, getting up, you know,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: applying a plan of action and being consistent with your
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: goal setting. And that's what this is. I have always
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: been that way. I mean just from even you know,
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: when you're going to the grocery store with your mother,
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: your mother before all leaves, she said, look here, we're
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: going in here with this list. I'm not buying you this.
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: I'm not buying you that you get two things. You
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: know you had, you had a structure, so when you
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: get in there, we already know the game plan. Like
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: I am just a planning person. I have to have
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: structure to know what it actually what what what is
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: I'm going into and if it doesn't work for me,
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: if it doesn't, if it won't, if I don't like
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: to be put in situations where I don't, I'm not
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: at my best light. And I tell people, if anything
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: you do, you have to approach it as a business
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: and you have to know your strengths and your weaknesses
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: and always be in your best light. And that's really important.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: So so when I ask you this question about because
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: I'm starting to see you more and more, you know
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: on social media. You know I'm talking to what the
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: Facebook lide feeds. So so why why why why are
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: you doing that and just just strate teaching questions because
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: I just want to educate. I don't First of all,
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: I'm so afraid of social media. If airy to me,
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: it's so scary to me. And here's why it's scary
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: to me, because you're you're open up and you're you're
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: being vulnerable to people who, first of all, may not
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: know your whole story. They don't they don't care about
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: your whole story, and they can be evil when they
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: can be mean. You know, so you when when you
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: when you dibble and dabble in that particular arena, you
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: gotta you gotta you know, you gotta be careful because
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: you could come on there and they'd be like your
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: nose big right, right, right right? Because now is that
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: the reason you were shades? No? No, I the reason
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: I love sunglasses. I want to know, because you know,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: every time you'll be looking at I wear sunglasses, let
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: me tell you my outfit is not complete. I start
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: with the sunglasses. No, no, no, But I'm just saying
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: like people will say anything like like you look, I'm
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: just not I'm just not cut from that cloth. Where
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: I'm just to having to, you know, deal with people
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: randomly people's opinion all the time. So yeah, and I
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: can understand. I can relate to that because that's a
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: big part of social media, having to deal with opinions,
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: having to deal with people making comments about you. But
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: they tell you that that's the that's the forward motion

- 1:39:15Speaker 1: one thing for somebody to be silly sitting in a car,
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: or silly for two minute two seconds you're seeing them
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: on Facebook, than to be silly to be honest doing
