- 0:13Speaker 1: advice to many occasions. In the case you didn't notice,
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm not broke, you know, he'll be interviewing celebrity CEOs,
- 0:20Speaker 1: entrepreneurs and industry decision makers. It's what he likes to do.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It's what he likes to ship. Now it's time to
- 0:25Speaker 1: hear from my man, Rashan McDonald. Money Making Conversations, Money
- 0:30Speaker 1: Making Conversations. Two years going on two years and we
- 0:33Speaker 1: still and we were rocking and rolling. The brand is growing, team,
- 0:37Speaker 1: the brand is growing, the words getting out. The information
- 0:41Speaker 1: that we give is accurate and we care about people
- 0:43Speaker 1: who listen to our show because we get about information
- 0:46Speaker 1: to make them win. That's right information. That's what to
- 0:49Speaker 1: show us about information. Information from individuals who are out
- 0:52Speaker 1: there doing it in the streets, in the boardrooms, in
- 0:56Speaker 1: front of the cameras, behind the cameras. Small businesses, some
- 1:00Speaker 1: of them are driven by faith from a standpoint of
- 1:03Speaker 1: they put together faith in it. It motivates them through
- 1:06Speaker 1: imagery and motivates them through constant planning. It motivates them
- 1:10Speaker 1: through consistency. That is your angle. What angle do you take? Nothing?
- 1:16Speaker 1: No angles behind, but the angle did you take? I
- 1:19Speaker 1: want you to share on my show. I want you
- 1:21Speaker 1: to hear about it on my show. So when you
- 1:23Speaker 1: walk away from money making conversation, you said, Man, I
- 1:25Speaker 1: can't miss with Sean. Have you heard about Rashawn show.
- 1:28Speaker 1: It's the show man everybody comes. I love to hear
- 1:32Speaker 1: everybody coming over Shawn show now. That's what I like him.
- 1:35Speaker 1: My next guest is one of those everybody coming over
- 1:37Speaker 1: Shan show now, but next years. That's so a long time, okay,
- 1:42Speaker 1: my sitcom world. When I was writing back there, Jamie five, Sister, Sister,
- 1:47Speaker 1: the Parker, all that good stuff back then before I
- 1:51Speaker 1: started managing my man. But next day is a two
- 1:54Speaker 1: time in double a CP Image Award nominated actress, producer,
- 1:59Speaker 1: Entrepreneurs He is entrepreneur. Having the ability to portray characters
- 2:04Speaker 1: ranging from a sophisticated young entrepreneur to a mentally challenged teenager,
- 2:09Speaker 1: has branded her as one of the entertainment industry's most
- 2:11Speaker 1: well respected actresses. She recently launched shop She's Got a
- 2:16Speaker 1: habit dot com, a retail marketplace. I went online and
- 2:19Speaker 1: checked it out. And an extension of this is living
- 2:22Speaker 1: dot com, a traveling lifestyle website and an e commerce
- 2:26Speaker 1: platform that she co founded with her husband, Terek Walker.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Please welcome for the very first time I had a
- 2:32Speaker 1: drum roll the money making conversations, Melinda Williams anute. First
- 2:39Speaker 1: of all, can I get again? I'm gonna work on
- 2:47Speaker 1: your rule. It's the funny point of but I never
- 2:51Speaker 1: tell my staff, uh, saying who's my point of my
- 2:54Speaker 1: producers that I'm gonna do it? Because not consistently. So
- 2:57Speaker 1: he's always back to scramming. And when I decide out
- 2:59Speaker 1: of my he had to say, drum gonna please, would
- 3:02Speaker 1: you just tell me? Brother? Would you just tell me brother?
- 3:04Speaker 1: But I'm doing great and you just said that you
- 3:07Speaker 1: just left Hot Atlanta before we got on the A.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I did. I just left Hot latter we Uh, we
- 3:13Speaker 1: were down there for my husband, Terk and I were
- 3:16Speaker 1: down there for the Wide Conference, which is rolling out
- 3:20Speaker 1: Magazine's conference as well as the Sisters in Business Expo.
- 3:24Speaker 1: So we were down there very busy running around in
- 3:27Speaker 1: the hot city. But really just you know, having a
- 3:29Speaker 1: good time and building our brands in the process. That's key.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I like what you said, building brands, that's important. We
- 3:36Speaker 1: hear people talking about it all the time. What when
- 3:38Speaker 1: you say building your brand, what does that mean in general? Well,
- 3:44Speaker 1: here's the thing. You know, we know we're all potential brands,
- 3:48Speaker 1: right um. You know, and with the onset of social media,
- 3:52Speaker 1: we all have begun to, you know, take branding ourselves
- 3:55Speaker 1: a bit more seriously. And you know, as an actress,
- 3:58Speaker 1: it's interesting because sometimes people separate them the world of
- 4:02Speaker 1: acting or the world the entertainment industry from entrepreneurial um
- 4:07Speaker 1: um efforts. As an actress, I've always been an entrepreneur.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I've always basically worked for myself, been in business for myself.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Now I've been contracted by studios, I've been contracted by producers,
- 4:18Speaker 1: but I've always been my own business. And so as
- 4:21Speaker 1: an actress, I've always understood that I have to market myself.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I have to brand myself because there is no there
- 4:29Speaker 1: isn't necessarily a company behind me. I am the company
- 4:33Speaker 1: um and so in building everything that I build, all
- 4:37Speaker 1: the businesses that I that I have. In the last
- 4:39Speaker 1: twelve months, I've launched three businesses and and those businesses
- 4:42Speaker 1: are all extensions of who I am, what my personal
- 4:47Speaker 1: life is, and you know what I enjoy doing on
- 4:50Speaker 1: a daily basis that I would be doing anyway. I've
- 4:53Speaker 1: just found ways to turn them into businesses and monetize
- 4:56Speaker 1: them so that my lifestyle becomes, um, you know, the
- 5:00Speaker 1: way I lived become the way I earn a living,
- 5:03Speaker 1: right right. There's there's an interesting thing about it because
- 5:06Speaker 1: you're you're, you know, still out there doing your acting
- 5:08Speaker 1: things as well as being an entrepreneurs. Have a twenty
- 5:11Speaker 1: two year daughter, and I saw the movie and I
- 5:13Speaker 1: got to sit down and see the movie that you
- 5:15Speaker 1: did on the TV one Love to Death and uh,
- 5:19Speaker 1: because you know, I don't know she's out there. I'm
- 5:22Speaker 1: hoping she's making all the right decisions, hoping that she's
- 5:25Speaker 1: going to meet the right people. When you do a
- 5:27Speaker 1: movie like that, does it what impact does it have
- 5:32Speaker 1: on you personally? And then people who watched the movie,
- 5:35Speaker 1: how do they receive what you're the message you've delivered
- 5:39Speaker 1: on the screen. Mm hmm, thank you for that question.
- 5:43Speaker 1: You know, it's interesting because, as I said earlier, everything
- 5:46Speaker 1: that I do in my businesses is an extension of
- 5:49Speaker 1: who I am. I don't make any moves in business
- 5:53Speaker 1: that don't uh in, have it in some way or
- 5:56Speaker 1: will not in some way impact me personally. At the
- 6:00Speaker 1: end of the day, I'm a storyteller, right. I share
- 6:03Speaker 1: my stories, my personal stories, my business stories, and I
- 6:07Speaker 1: do that through the characters that I play as well
- 6:09Speaker 1: as the products that I put out. You know, anything
- 6:12Speaker 1: that is an extension of me as part of it
- 6:14Speaker 1: is personal to me. Um so. So. Having said that,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I took this role because yes, I had had my
- 6:22Speaker 1: own experiences with um domestic violence and intimate partner abuse
- 6:27Speaker 1: personally as well as you know, one in three women
- 6:31Speaker 1: will be abused in her lifetime. You know, Sorry and
- 6:34Speaker 1: sad to say it, but um so, I so, almost
- 6:38Speaker 1: everyone that I know has either been Every woman that
- 6:41Speaker 1: I know has either been abused or has known someone
- 6:44Speaker 1: close to them who has been abused. So as as
- 6:47Speaker 1: someone who's in the industry, and I feel qualified to
- 6:51Speaker 1: play the role, qualified because it came into my experience,
- 6:55Speaker 1: as well as qualified because it's what I do, um
- 6:58Speaker 1: um as a as an artist, I felt the responsibility
- 7:03Speaker 1: to tell the story and and bring a certain authentication
- 7:06Speaker 1: to it because of my personal experience. That's really important.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And that's why I wanted to at least point that
- 7:12Speaker 1: out from a from a personal side, because a lot
- 7:15Speaker 1: of times, you know, we just see roles that individuals
- 7:19Speaker 1: do and whether they whether they reach to get that
- 7:22Speaker 1: emotion where they reach to get a foundation of reality
- 7:25Speaker 1: for that to become authentic on the screen. And also
- 7:29Speaker 1: in things like that, you know, especially domestic violence. You know,
- 7:33Speaker 1: we say one out of three, but that's one of
- 7:34Speaker 1: the three that's been reported, all right, and that's that's
- 7:38Speaker 1: the scary number. That's the scary number that we have
- 7:40Speaker 1: to talk about. But I always want to bring out
- 7:42Speaker 1: a group of six sisters and I anything that allows
- 7:47Speaker 1: me to communicate a value system of uplifting level of
- 7:51Speaker 1: communication about women, I will do it on this show.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And I had to bring that out as part of
- 7:55Speaker 1: my conversations with you and continue do amazing work like
- 7:58Speaker 1: that in the future. Now, thank you, I will thank you.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Good good. Now Now okay, now here's your boy. Okay,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I am a guy from going with switching gears, going
- 8:09Speaker 1: over to the yoga Okay, now, okay, okay, going over
- 8:13Speaker 1: to yoga. Okay, Now, what exactly is yoka? What exactly.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Oh Man, Yoka is interesting that it's it's it's a lifestyle,
- 8:24Speaker 1: it's a practice, it's an ongoing practice. A lot of
- 8:27Speaker 1: people when they think of yoga, they think of poses,
- 8:30Speaker 1: to think of exercising, They think of you know, great
- 8:33Speaker 1: abs and you know and and beautiful arms. But yoga
- 8:38Speaker 1: really is a mind, body and soul practice. So you
- 8:42Speaker 1: have the mind's part where you are quieting your mind.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Still in your mind, you're able to focus um and
- 8:49Speaker 1: and and for for us, it's about really focusing so
- 8:52Speaker 1: that we can manifest what it is we want to
- 8:55Speaker 1: happen in our lives. There's the spiritual part of it.
- 8:59Speaker 1: The spiritual practice this where we're recognizing in the world
- 9:03Speaker 1: um and trying to be a more loving individual to others,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and we're looking to recognize love in in other individuals
- 9:12Speaker 1: as well, which obviously that's not the whole of it. UM.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And then there's a physical obviously obviously the posing and
- 9:20Speaker 1: that's a discipline that, yes, there's a there's a wonderful
- 9:24Speaker 1: result in that, you know, you wind up with a
- 9:27Speaker 1: with a beautiful, strong, physical um body and presence. But
- 9:33Speaker 1: there's so much more to the physical practice of yoga.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Than people really truly understand unless they are they are
- 9:40Speaker 1: engaging in the practice itself. Now, you started a oneness
- 9:43Speaker 1: yoga studios in New Jersey with one of your what
- 9:46Speaker 1: your sisters are? One of your sisters. I have two
- 9:49Speaker 1: sisters and we're all we're a triangle. We're a partner,
- 9:53Speaker 1: just stretching out hot yoga that I hear about the
- 9:57Speaker 1: hot yoga too. You've heard about the hot yoga, yes,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know ideally, you know, nobody wants to really practice
- 10:04Speaker 1: yoga in the cold, so some of it is practiced
- 10:08Speaker 1: at different temperatures. Ours isn't quite like the super hot
- 10:11Speaker 1: hot heating like become yoga, but we definitely practice it
- 10:15Speaker 1: in a warm studio because it's important for your muscles
- 10:18Speaker 1: to be warmed, um, so that you don't injure yourself
- 10:21Speaker 1: while you're practicing. Now, let's talk about the website. There's
- 10:25Speaker 1: an extension of this is leaving. Yes, that's Shops. She's
- 10:30Speaker 1: got a habit and it's and it's really right now,
- 10:33Speaker 1: it's it's my baby, right, um, you know, like if
- 10:37Speaker 1: this is leaving is my firstborn, Um, my new baby
- 10:41Speaker 1: is Shops. She's got to happen and it's really a
- 10:44Speaker 1: fashion and lifestyle extension of this is leaving. It's really
- 10:50Speaker 1: also a wellness but the emphasis is on women, UM
- 10:54Speaker 1: particularly of targeting women of color, because I feel like
- 10:57Speaker 1: there's a lot of sites out there who target everyone
- 11:01Speaker 1: else and and sort of consider women of color and
- 11:04Speaker 1: afterthought like, oh, you can get something here, you can
- 11:07Speaker 1: find something. I agree with you because of the fact
- 11:09Speaker 1: that when I was looking at these these these e
- 11:11Speaker 1: commerce portals that you're creating, you allowed because one of
- 11:14Speaker 1: the questions they sent over to me was talking about
- 11:17Speaker 1: using your following into your network to build UH network
- 11:22Speaker 1: and uh empowering others to do the same. Now, that's
- 11:26Speaker 1: that's a very unselfish statement for you to make. Where
- 11:31Speaker 1: does that come from? What does what? What? What? What
- 11:33Speaker 1: causes you to make a statement like that about helping
- 11:36Speaker 1: other people? My parents, I mean, at the end of
- 11:38Speaker 1: the day, my family. It's a reflection of the family
- 11:41Speaker 1: that I the way I was raised. I was raised
- 11:43Speaker 1: with two sisters, and my father always told us there's
- 11:47Speaker 1: nothing more important than your sisters. And so essentially I
- 11:51Speaker 1: have an affinity for for for sisterhood, for women and
- 11:55Speaker 1: for women of color. And it's a great time for
- 11:57Speaker 1: women right now, in particularly for women of color. And again,
- 12:01Speaker 1: the way that technology has evolved, it's gotten us to
- 12:05Speaker 1: a place where we can connect with one another immediately,
- 12:09Speaker 1: like right now, right away, there is no delay in
- 12:12Speaker 1: our connection. And so what are we using our platforms
- 12:15Speaker 1: and our connections for? And so I say we should
- 12:18Speaker 1: be using our networks to build our net work because
- 12:21Speaker 1: we now don't have to look outside of our network.
- 12:24Speaker 1: There are enough of us so we can get together
- 12:27Speaker 1: and partner up and help each other. We're all outs
- 12:29Speaker 1: here trying to do it independently, and I feel like
- 12:32Speaker 1: that's the harder way to work. If we want to
- 12:35Speaker 1: work smarter, then we would connect with one another with
- 12:38Speaker 1: these tools that social media has given us to be
- 12:41Speaker 1: able to do so and and grow ourselves strong. Um together,
- 12:46Speaker 1: there you go with Linda Williams. Thank you for coming
- 12:49Speaker 1: on my show, Very Powerful. Now I'm gonna being um
- 12:52Speaker 1: Philadelphia next week for our three days. So I don't
- 12:55Speaker 1: know where you are, but your sisters that there turn
- 12:59Speaker 1: up the heat rash coming back. But thank you Lenda
- 13:04Speaker 1: for coming on this show. You're amazing and please, hey,
- 13:06Speaker 1: don't be a stranger. Can you come back to absolutely Okay? Cool.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And also we're gonna reach out to your people to
- 13:13Speaker 1: give us some banners and some posts. We can put
- 13:16Speaker 1: it on news letty thousand followers in my newsletter and
- 13:19Speaker 1: I got a pretty healthy followers and my Facebook page.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And I'll help you out because guess what which I
- 13:26Speaker 1: cannot allow myself to not. I'll do you because you're
- 13:29Speaker 1: doing it girl. I gotta do you. I gotta do you.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I gotta do Melenda keep winning, Okay, I will you too. Rashan,
- 13:36Speaker 1: thank you, appreciate you. We'll be right back with more
- 13:40Speaker 1: from Marsan McDonald and money making conversations don't touch that.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Restrictions may apply. Plans and cost coverage may very called
- 13:46Speaker 1: protected my car for details. In these hard economic times,
- 13:48Speaker 1: you've got to do whatever you can to save money.
- 13:51Speaker 1: One of our biggest expenses can be our cars, especially
- 13:53Speaker 1: when unexpected repair bills here not anymore. If you do
- 13:57Speaker 1: own a car, truck or sub made from or higher,
- 14:00Speaker 1: you could stop paying for Kyle repairs. That's right. You
- 14:03Speaker 1: might not have to pay a penny to have it repaired.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Just dial Star Star one seven on your mobile phone
- 14:08Speaker 1: now to see if you qualify. You must have an

- 14:37Speaker 1: Just dial Star Star one seven on your mobile phone
- 14:40Speaker 1: now dial Star Star one one four seven. Hi, This
- 14:45Speaker 1: rou Sean McDonald. You're listening to money making conversation. That's right,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you are listening to money making conversation a show that
- 14:52Speaker 1: was created by me. I don't think created for the
- 14:56Speaker 1: overall production of the show. I just had to the idea.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I have a great team of people, relationships that I've
- 15:03Speaker 1: created over the years to come on my show, new
- 15:06Speaker 1: ones to hear about the show, people who support the show.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I'm just saying that you're never successful by yourself. You're
- 15:14Speaker 1: only successful by the people that you are are just
- 15:17Speaker 1: surround you. Did you surround yourself with and we surround
- 15:20Speaker 1: yourself with the right people who believe in you. Have
- 15:22Speaker 1: the same passion level that you have, then you can
- 15:25Speaker 1: consider the next level of winning, and winning is being
- 15:28Speaker 1: able to accomplish the task that you put in front
- 15:32Speaker 1: of you and reach the goals that you want to reach.
- 15:34Speaker 1: That's what I consider winning. When it can be financial,
- 15:36Speaker 1: women can be social, women can be health a lot
- 15:39Speaker 1: of ways. I myself, I've wanted many different ways. I
- 15:43Speaker 1: wanted through health, I want through money, I wanted through accolades,
- 15:47Speaker 1: awards and things like that. But in the end, it's
- 15:50Speaker 1: where you just determine the path of where you want
- 15:52Speaker 1: to be successful. It's important and we're listening to Money
- 15:56Speaker 1: Making Conversation host about me, Rashan McDonald. I'm giving you
- 15:58Speaker 1: an opportunity to listen to information that you can verify.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Just follow these people. Just just listen to these people.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Just go to their websites, go to their social media.
- 16:08Speaker 1: You'll see there's a consistent pattern of success. That's a
- 16:11Speaker 1: consistent pattern of promoting their brands, being able to articulate
- 16:17Speaker 1: their message. And that's a lot of problems that a
- 16:19Speaker 1: lot of people have. They have great ideas, but how
- 16:22Speaker 1: they how they getting that message out, how they they
- 16:25Speaker 1: what what are the consistencies of their brand messaging. That's
- 16:28Speaker 1: what you have to do. Chick fil A, you know
- 16:30Speaker 1: they do chicken that's what they do now. They everyone's
- 16:33Speaker 1: want to throw a soup out there, but they don't.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Never put the soup in front of the chicken. So
- 16:38Speaker 1: a lot of times people get confused about that. You know,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. Sometimes I looking at
- 16:43Speaker 1: Burger King. They're selling tacos. Boy, I don't know what's
- 16:46Speaker 1: going on over there. But I did go over there
- 16:47Speaker 1: and get the impossible burger. I do recommend the impossible
- 16:50Speaker 1: burger ate it back to back days. It is very
- 16:53Speaker 1: good something. But they do burgers now when they start
- 16:56Speaker 1: selling tacos, and then I got a problem with them again.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But guess she is a graduate of the University day
- 17:02Speaker 1: of Houston. I'm proud to say I am a graduate
- 17:05Speaker 1: of the University of Houston. I have a Math degrade
- 17:08Speaker 1: minor and sociology. My next guest is the CEO and
- 17:12Speaker 1: product inventor of s W n G Essentials skin Caroline.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Thirteen years ago. What began as a passion and necessity
- 17:21Speaker 1: quickly blossomed into an award winning skincare brand name by
- 17:25Speaker 1: Forbes twelve Coolest Gifts and Travelers and Best twenty five
- 17:29Speaker 1: Gifts for Fathers. This is FORBS Magazine. She has developed
- 17:33Speaker 1: patented skincare with targeted solutions for women and men for
- 17:36Speaker 1: skin conditions such as sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin, crisis,
- 17:42Speaker 1: ingrown hair, and hyper and hyper pigmentation. Please working the
- 17:47Speaker 1: money making conversations Lydia Evans, Hello, Hey, Lydia, Where are
- 17:53Speaker 1: you calling from? I am calling from Houston, Texas. How
- 17:57Speaker 1: are you you know, calling from my country? Okay, that's
- 18:00Speaker 1: what I was born and raised with the highs, with
- 18:03Speaker 1: the elementary school and phil War Texas that moved over
- 18:06Speaker 1: to Shady Dale, went the middle school to Northwood, then
- 18:09Speaker 1: with the high school in Forest Brook doesn't exist anymore.
- 18:14Speaker 1: That I went over over to the University of Houston
- 18:16Speaker 1: State there seven years got my degree. I just say
- 18:20Speaker 1: that seven years because I wasn't smart. I would think
- 18:22Speaker 1: that seven years because I was I was a party.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I didn't know how to combine academics and party into
- 18:31Speaker 1: one thing. Somebody said, boy, aren't you getting old? Are
- 18:34Speaker 1: you being old for an undergraduate? Clay? I make a
- 18:37Speaker 1: side fire, got out of there till the day I die.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I'm a cute to the day I died with the
- 18:42Speaker 1: degree that they can't reposed people get that degree. They
- 18:46Speaker 1: can't reapoll your education. They can't say you got bad
- 18:49Speaker 1: credit with your education. Get that get that degree. Now
- 18:52Speaker 1: your universe using to graduate. Tell us about your experience
- 18:55Speaker 1: in college. How did it change your life? Oh my god,
- 18:59Speaker 1: college definitely may it a huge difference in my life
- 19:01Speaker 1: before I even get started. Thank you so much for
- 19:03Speaker 1: having me today. This is so exciting good and we
- 19:06Speaker 1: also know that this is this your This is not
- 19:09Speaker 1: a one off. You are a talented person. I created
- 19:13Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations to give individual small entrepreneurs or entrepreneurs
- 19:17Speaker 1: in general, uh, small business owners a voice because in
- 19:21Speaker 1: this business, social media has given us a voice. Now
- 19:24Speaker 1: giving the voice in the airways and podcasts and serious
- 19:27Speaker 1: exam and to rest your radio. That's the purpose of
- 19:30Speaker 1: money making Conversations. So I wanna let you know you
- 19:32Speaker 1: are a friend of the money Making Conversation family. Oh well,
- 19:36Speaker 1: thank you. I take that graatiously. I love to be family,
- 19:40Speaker 1: you know, a Saveners are all about family. Yeah, but
- 19:45Speaker 1: just really quickly. I when I first actually started going
- 19:48Speaker 1: off to college, I went off to Hampton University because
- 19:51Speaker 1: I got a scholarship there for pre mad and I
- 19:54Speaker 1: ended up getting gross out when it was time for
- 19:56Speaker 1: lab time in my sophomore year and changed my major.
- 20:00Speaker 1: When I changed my major it parallel. I actually ended
- 20:03Speaker 1: up getting homesick because I had found out there were
- 20:06Speaker 1: some new babies in my family. Everyone was sending me
- 20:09Speaker 1: pictures and I was like, no, I want to go home.
- 20:11Speaker 1: And I ended up transferring into University of Houston, one
- 20:14Speaker 1: of the best decisions I ever made. And I am
- 20:16Speaker 1: a bona fide coud so I graduated with the I
- 20:20Speaker 1: actually switched over to the polar opposite, which was public
- 20:24Speaker 1: relations advertising, because I just did not want to see
- 20:27Speaker 1: blood and juts anymore. Yeah, but did thing about it
- 20:33Speaker 1: is that you switched over. But when I look at
- 20:35Speaker 1: your your life patting the skincare, uh, this is this
- 20:39Speaker 1: is I have to say medicine related, correct. I know.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Isn't that crazy? How you just come full circle? I
- 20:45Speaker 1: laughed at that. I just celebrated my fortieth birthday recently,
- 20:48Speaker 1: and I just laughed at it all the time, Like, boy,
- 20:51Speaker 1: you could run, but you cannot hide from your call.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And I'll tell you that much. Well, I always tell
- 20:57Speaker 1: people that this is so good. Your your prime example
- 21:00Speaker 1: what I talked about in the show. I always tell
- 21:01Speaker 1: people that what you these decisions you make in your
- 21:04Speaker 1: early twenties, especially in that twenty one twenty to age range,
- 21:07Speaker 1: when you when you have that desire to be who
- 21:10Speaker 1: you are, your dreams and your visions, that passion of
- 21:13Speaker 1: that desire is really I always tell people, don't it's
- 21:16Speaker 1: not the resume that you sometimes are working on now
- 21:19Speaker 1: or creating now. It's what you wanted to do in
- 21:21Speaker 1: your early twenties and when you came out of high
- 21:24Speaker 1: school you had this desire to be special and unique,
- 21:26Speaker 1: that that that's what you're gonna make money on in
- 21:29Speaker 1: your forties and fifties. As you get older, and you're
- 21:31Speaker 1: the prime example of that, you're saying that you went
- 21:34Speaker 1: to Hampton on those scholarship made and then you you
- 21:37Speaker 1: transfer the universe us. But guess what you're doing now, right?
- 21:41Speaker 1: I know? And that's so crazy. I'm I'm actually going
- 21:44Speaker 1: to be speaking at this conference coming up called the
- 21:46Speaker 1: Boss Doctors Conference when I'm speaking on product development of
- 21:49Speaker 1: the doctors there and I just last I said, Lord
- 21:52Speaker 1: Have mercy, you are so funny. Well, you know that's
- 21:54Speaker 1: that that's the beauty of what I try to do
- 21:56Speaker 1: with the show. And you're and when I when I
- 21:58Speaker 1: you know, I did my little extra digging own individual.
- 22:00Speaker 1: They give me the portal with information and I started
- 22:03Speaker 1: doing my research. And and then one of my producers,
- 22:06Speaker 1: executive producers the show, she's a Hampton grad, so you know,
- 22:09Speaker 1: she quick she's quickly the point at that little HBC relationship.
- 22:13Speaker 1: You know, that's Samantha Taylor, you know, and so and
- 22:18Speaker 1: so it's all a boy menu. It's all about menu. Okay,
- 22:25Speaker 1: don't don't go to that Southern chilm just went too
- 22:27Speaker 1: far right there. Now, Now when you went to the
- 22:32Speaker 1: University Houston, now you said that what exactly is advertising
- 22:36Speaker 1: slash pr relationship from the universe Houston? What exactly is that? Okay? Well,
- 22:40Speaker 1: advertising relations is more of the forefront of marketing. So
- 22:44Speaker 1: marketing is the back in science um communing, you know,
- 22:48Speaker 1: like mindset, the numbers and all the rest of that.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Whereas with advertising public relations, that's the front end, that's
- 22:54Speaker 1: the face of the brand. Um. That's where the ideas
- 22:57Speaker 1: that are conceived in marketing come to life. Uh, in
- 23:00Speaker 1: a tangible ad or anything like that. Um um, you know,
- 23:05Speaker 1: like a like a advertisement, a a campaign, um, a
- 23:10Speaker 1: press release. So it's just so funny. How coming full
- 23:15Speaker 1: circle as an entrepreneur, Like how detrimental that is to
- 23:18Speaker 1: the growth of a brand. And it's the core of
- 23:20Speaker 1: my studies and it has helped me a lot when
- 23:23Speaker 1: it comes to business. Now here's here's the other layers,
- 23:26Speaker 1: because she has so many layers. Remember she went to
- 23:28Speaker 1: Hamptons you know, medical scholar ship ready to go out
- 23:31Speaker 1: then just heal people. Then she goes your Ris Houston, okay,
- 23:35Speaker 1: advertising public relations. Then she gets licensed at the acclaimed
- 23:39Speaker 1: Institute of Cosmic Cosmetology and Aesthetics. Why did you make
- 23:44Speaker 1: that ship? Because that's the shift it really made you
- 23:46Speaker 1: three sixty correct, Yes it is Sean. Actually what happened
- 23:51Speaker 1: was all my life suffered from exema um, and then
- 23:54Speaker 1: as I got older, what I thought was excellent and
- 23:56Speaker 1: my scalp actually turned out to be pariasis. And um
- 23:59Speaker 1: I didn't understand Like when I was a younger girl,
- 24:02Speaker 1: like um, when I would have relaxes put on, why
- 24:05Speaker 1: my scalt would like forty five degree bird, not even
- 24:08Speaker 1: third degree bird. I couldn't understand why my skin was
- 24:11Speaker 1: so sensitive to the sun. Um. I couldn't understand why
- 24:14Speaker 1: it's my mom washed my clothes in in in detergent
- 24:18Speaker 1: and had like, um fragrances. Why I would itch and
- 24:21Speaker 1: scratch until I would lead in the in the corners
- 24:24Speaker 1: of my arms and and stuff like that. And so
- 24:27Speaker 1: as I got older, it was determined that I had
- 24:29Speaker 1: eczema and then in my scalp aphoriasis. So I just
- 24:31Speaker 1: started making my own products while I was working full
- 24:34Speaker 1: time in my degree area, which was advertising UM. And
- 24:38Speaker 1: so it just kind of I used to hide my
- 24:41Speaker 1: arms and legs and stuff all the time. And after
- 24:43Speaker 1: I start using my products, I started showing a little
- 24:46Speaker 1: bit more skin at works, like wear short sleeve shirts,
- 24:49Speaker 1: wear skirts to the knee, um, And my coworkers just
- 24:52Speaker 1: kind of took note like okay, letty okay, And I'm like, girl, whatever,
- 24:57Speaker 1: my skin don't look like allegator. And so then that
- 25:00Speaker 1: pened up that conversation, and so then my co workers
- 25:04Speaker 1: that it created that dinalogue so that my co workers
- 25:06Speaker 1: start telling me, oh my mom in in in in
- 25:08Speaker 1: New York has excellent. Can you make her cream and
- 25:11Speaker 1: send it to her? Oh my sister in law in
- 25:13Speaker 1: Florida has exema? Can you make her cream and send
- 25:15Speaker 1: it to her? So it just kind of started very organically.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I didn't even know it was right under my nose. Now,
- 25:20Speaker 1: miss Evans, Okay, now let's talk about this. You just
- 25:22Speaker 1: talking about Okay, you just said make this. Okay, this
- 25:25Speaker 1: is like and you're not to catch you making a
- 25:27Speaker 1: sweepetator Pope, Okay, you're not you Okay? How you skipped
- 25:31Speaker 1: the major step? And how this whole process you made creams?
- 25:35Speaker 1: How did you make creams? Did you work with a
- 25:37Speaker 1: with a with a biologist, a scientist or somebody in medicine?
- 25:42Speaker 1: How did this whole process come about? I know it
- 25:45Speaker 1: was something that was for you personally, but you still
- 25:47Speaker 1: have to work with somebody correct um. As a matter
- 25:51Speaker 1: of fact, I actually didn't. I think that everything that
- 25:54Speaker 1: you had it goes back to what you were saying.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I think every tool that you need is within you,
- 25:58Speaker 1: um and and it's all you have to find it.
- 26:01Speaker 1: It's almost like I compare in life of video games.
- 26:03Speaker 1: It's like every single thing you need is right there.
- 26:07Speaker 1: You don't know, but it's right there in the bush.

- 26:13Speaker 1: break this wall. All right, big timer, I appreciate it.

- 29:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna just change this. Why aren't you five hundred pounds?
- 29:42Speaker 1: Because I know who you're sitting next to? Okay, she
- 29:44Speaker 1: could cook? What are you doing? Or you portion get
- 29:48Speaker 1: me to be on get come on air and talk

- 29:57Speaker 1: not gonna have us. We have pound couple. I say
- 29:59Speaker 1: that the food we're not healthy. We not the power
- 30:01Speaker 1: company anymo. I'm gonna be on my own. I'm gonna
- 30:02Speaker 1: be so loo. But it is healthy. Oh my god. Okay, okay,
- 30:08Speaker 1: let's let's back it up there. Let's back it up there.
- 30:11Speaker 1: The food that she's eating healthy, but it looks so good.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Let me back up. Okay. Now see the food she's
- 30:19Speaker 1: always shown me, though I always look like it's restaurant quality.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Now is she throwing down that like that for you?
- 30:27Speaker 1: Trolling the kids like that too? Chef Tommy V. Sometimes
- 30:33Speaker 1: you let me call her Tommy. I mean it just
- 30:38Speaker 1: has to be. I mean we isn't. She cooked for everybody,
- 30:40Speaker 1: so I mean put that on record. So she cooks
- 30:42Speaker 1: for not only myself. She cooks for our children are
- 30:45Speaker 1: still at home. She cooks for our grands and we're
- 30:48Speaker 1: always having friends and families, family members over. So she
- 30:51Speaker 1: cooked for for everybody. The food always the only thing
- 30:55Speaker 1: that she didn't got a little pricky a little bit
- 30:57Speaker 1: in a little later years in our lives. And I
- 30:59Speaker 1: relate ship where we said and grabbed the food with
- 31:03Speaker 1: our hands and stuff, right, right right now, everything has
- 31:06Speaker 1: to be on the plate with the napkin, with the
- 31:10Speaker 1: nice I just want to eat. That makes me. My
- 31:13Speaker 1: wife does that too. I was, okay, when did the
- 31:15Speaker 1: rules change? I've been grabbing for chicken for years now.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I can't just grab for chicken no more. What we'reself
- 31:23Speaker 1: time before you eat. We gotta make sure we're taking pictures.
- 31:26Speaker 1: And I don't know about lifting my head up. I
- 31:29Speaker 1: got some cromebs on the side of my mouth and
- 31:31Speaker 1: wipe them with the pis you. I got a camera
- 31:34Speaker 1: in front of me or somebody videotape. I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 31:38Speaker 1: We gotta stop all this. Oh my god, now this
- 31:41Speaker 1: this this this comedian who's on the phone right now
- 31:44Speaker 1: really is an executive for the NFL. He played in
- 31:47Speaker 1: the NFL for fifteen years, a corner back for the
- 31:51Speaker 1: Eggs for the egg Now who he's talking about is
- 31:55Speaker 1: the queid of the family. Her name is Tommy with
- 31:59Speaker 1: an I. No k She cooked, but she gives all
- 32:03Speaker 1: there's too she can give off. I met her and
- 32:05Speaker 1: she was on the me around. You know, how do
- 32:07Speaker 1: you meet somebody, Troy, how do you meet somebody who
- 32:10Speaker 1: invites you to lunch and you said, there going. I
- 32:13Speaker 1: don't know her that well. She's telling me what to do,
- 32:18Speaker 1: but she does it. It's such a uh I don't
- 32:21Speaker 1: maybe you can't have me your brother, but she tells me.
- 32:23Speaker 1: It's such a weight. I feel like I gotta do it,
- 32:26Speaker 1: though you gotta do it or something wrong? Right? Right?
- 32:29Speaker 1: Did she give you that look like I'm not gonna
- 32:31Speaker 1: get no more in those seconds? Okay? All right, Okay,
- 32:36Speaker 1: that makes sense what you're saying. I love it. Okay,
- 32:39Speaker 1: now she is not said one word yet. Has he
- 32:41Speaker 1: spoken yet? Okay, we spoke for six minutes, so it's
- 32:44Speaker 1: time to introduce the queen, the head coach, the head
- 32:55Speaker 1: coach of the coach. Okay, she called all the plays
- 32:59Speaker 1: you quarterback, sneaks, office and defense special teams. Please welcome
- 33:06Speaker 1: to money making Conversation, Tommy Fencing. I was just letting.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I was just letting y'all talk, letting y'all do y'all
- 33:17Speaker 1: things so I can hear all y'all little jokes and
- 33:20Speaker 1: your little nan again. But let me just back it
- 33:22Speaker 1: up and tell you why as your wife deserved your
- 33:27Speaker 1: food up on the plate, because we desire to make
- 33:32Speaker 1: sure you guys are treated with the best care possible
- 33:36Speaker 1: because y'all make stuff happen. What can what can and
- 33:44Speaker 1: I say now she articulated like that, all we can
- 33:48Speaker 1: say is can I get more? Can I get them?
- 33:54Speaker 1: You got to make sure you're all good and we're
- 33:56Speaker 1: all good. And the thing about it and she's she's
- 33:59Speaker 1: she's kind of like getting one of my producers, Tracy Logan,
- 34:02Speaker 1: because every time Tracy is around that she's taking photos.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Tracy has been to one of her retreats. Tracy was
- 34:07Speaker 1: recently up into in New York where a lot of
- 34:10Speaker 1: the food neckworks came by and to see her display,
- 34:14Speaker 1: because you know, this is this is this is a
- 34:16Speaker 1: power couple and uh and I we choked, Troy and
- 34:20Speaker 1: I joke, but as a her skills in the kitchen
- 34:25Speaker 1: are pretty impressive. And h what she doesn't do that
- 34:28Speaker 1: makes you mad. She doesn't do it enough. And social
- 34:31Speaker 1: media she doesn't post enough. And we don't talk about
- 34:34Speaker 1: that or air, you know, because you know we're talking
- 34:35Speaker 1: about business on air. You know. Because Troy he played
- 34:39Speaker 1: fifteen years in the NFL, so he still has muscles.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I saw him at the Super Bowl in Houston getting
- 34:45Speaker 1: over on the wall. He could probably still at tackle
- 34:47Speaker 1: somebody and put a little hurting over ra Sean Rashaan.
- 34:50Speaker 1: They never played I'm a I'm a TV all pro.
- 34:54Speaker 1: I am that I am an NFL Hall of Fame
- 34:56Speaker 1: couch potato. I can complain by hits. Why you didn't
- 35:02Speaker 1: hear him that hard? But part of some of these
- 35:04Speaker 1: hits they've given these days hurt me watching TV. The
- 35:08Speaker 1: new YouTube show stay awhile tell me tell me about that?
- 35:12Speaker 1: This is funny boy, So say a while is um
- 35:17Speaker 1: We just launched it UM three, but I think it
- 35:20Speaker 1: was three weeks ago, and it is a YouTube show
- 35:23Speaker 1: and it is an open invitation for people to come
- 35:26Speaker 1: and have a seat at our dinner table having an experience.
- 35:31Speaker 1: But what'd you say with Sean? I said, Wow, that's hot.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I need to get that link. Can you can you
- 35:36Speaker 1: share me with a link so when it does happen,
- 35:38Speaker 1: so I can just let my my my my followers
- 35:41Speaker 1: are always well, because that sounds like something that we
- 35:43Speaker 1: can like build momentum on. Correct. Absolutely, it's it's myself
- 35:49Speaker 1: hosting along with guests. Are our launched video in the
- 35:53Speaker 1: series is actually me and Troy cooking some barbecue beef
- 35:57Speaker 1: sandwiches and we had and I'm putting it down. I'm sorry,
- 36:05Speaker 1: you heard it, Troy. Troy has to learn how to
- 36:14Speaker 1: cook because I need him to serve me as well.
- 36:17Speaker 1: This ain't no one side of relationships in the marriage.
- 36:20Speaker 1: You gotta make sure that he does for you and
- 36:23Speaker 1: you do for him. We do things together. So if
- 36:26Speaker 1: he don't know something, ladies tell him. Don't just complain
- 36:30Speaker 1: and don't just mumble and grumble. Let him know what
- 36:33Speaker 1: your needs are. And I need my man to cook
- 36:34Speaker 1: for me, so I had to show him how to
- 36:36Speaker 1: put it down in the kitchen. But anyway, so on
- 36:40Speaker 1: the on the show, it's myself hosting and then I'm
- 36:43Speaker 1: in the kitchen with Troy, and then some episodes with
- 36:47Speaker 1: friends and the kids or we're going over and teaching
- 36:51Speaker 1: recipes along with also incorporating some nuggets of some invaluable
- 36:57Speaker 1: life lessons and keep fragments of words that you can
- 37:02Speaker 1: take away and apply to your life today to find
- 37:05Speaker 1: success where you are. Wow, that's what what? What was
- 37:10Speaker 1: the drive to do this type of show? Tommy? You know,
- 37:16Speaker 1: it's really important when when you have a platform of
- 37:20Speaker 1: any time in my opinion that you use it in
- 37:23Speaker 1: a way that has a positive social impact and also
- 37:27Speaker 1: show people that they can do things in a positive
- 37:30Speaker 1: way and you can have a lot of fun doing it.
- 37:32Speaker 1: There's this misconception that somehow wholesome living equates to you're
- 37:37Speaker 1: not fun, it's not exciting, you're not having a good time.
- 37:40Speaker 1: But that's a lie. There's there's pure and genuine joy
- 37:44Speaker 1: and fun in this situation. And any time the family
- 37:47Speaker 1: comes together and you've got all those different personalities, you're
- 37:50Speaker 1: having a ball. And that's what we're doing. We are
- 37:53Speaker 1: having a ball together and just loving on each other
- 37:56Speaker 1: and just infuse and hope in one another. I feel
- 38:00Speaker 1: you gots are part of my life and on the problem,
- 38:02Speaker 1: I just gotta introduced my wife into this relationship so
- 38:04Speaker 1: we can all have fun and start laughing together publicly.
- 38:07Speaker 1: You know. She just an abstract person over there, you know.
- 38:09Speaker 1: And she she texts me after the after the interview, Well,
- 38:12Speaker 1: when I'm gonna meet him, you're talking about it on
- 38:18Speaker 1: the rady. When When when we're gonna get the Philly
- 38:20Speaker 1: wherever they are, When we're gonna meet him? You know?
- 38:23Speaker 1: Any time? In closing it's football season, you know, how
- 38:27Speaker 1: does the house change doing football season. Well, listen, football
- 38:36Speaker 1: is who we are. It's been. Troy and I were
- 38:39Speaker 1: raised up in in the NFL. I was nineteen, he
- 38:43Speaker 1: was twenty four when we got married, and he was
- 38:45Speaker 1: just in the league. Here we go, go ahead, this
- 38:53Speaker 1: football football family. Go ahead you fake news, fake news,
- 39:03Speaker 1: the money making conversations. This is what we do. Other
- 39:07Speaker 1: people news take news, fake news. Will you continue, Tommy.
- 39:15Speaker 1: So we have a son that plays high school football,
- 39:18Speaker 1: and we have two sons that played college football, and
- 39:20Speaker 1: then you've got Troy with you know, the NFL on Sundays,
- 39:24Speaker 1: Mondays and Thursdays, and so it's a great time for
- 39:29Speaker 1: us to continue that fellowship around food, doing tailgates, and
- 39:32Speaker 1: so we're able to travel to different cities. We have
- 39:37Speaker 1: RV that we UM utilized to go to the games,
- 39:43Speaker 1: and we have the ability to cook our food and
- 39:47Speaker 1: eat it on the road and hang out having a
- 39:49Speaker 1: good time doing it. So it's a great time of
- 39:51Speaker 1: the year for us. We actually really look forward to
- 39:54Speaker 1: it every year. My friends, you listen to Troy and
- 39:59Speaker 1: they have my friends, they're your friends too, because they're
- 40:02Speaker 1: sharing their life with um. Both of you, both of
- 40:06Speaker 1: you both of your special and you know that when
- 40:08Speaker 1: I say that publicly or privately, don't ever stop doing
- 40:11Speaker 1: what you're doing. And again, I love both of you
- 40:15Speaker 1: because the energy and the compassion and the great food.
- 40:19Speaker 1: And Tommy, I know you're doing it all about yourself
- 40:21Speaker 1: because he's just eating, just like I'm in my house.
- 40:26Speaker 1: You know. Don't worry about that brother over there. You know,
- 40:28Speaker 1: don't worry about it over there. You're just like I
- 40:30Speaker 1: don't worry about stephen A. Smith. I can't worry about it.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Don't you worry about it? Okay, we used to have
- 40:35Speaker 1: a mutual friend and stephen A. Smith. Now we don't.
- 40:40Speaker 1: I love both of y'all, you know, So we're gonna
- 40:43Speaker 1: talk all fair because y'all need to be on TV.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Restrictions may apply. Plans and cost coverage may very called
- 40:52Speaker 1: protected by car for details. In these hard economic times,
- 40:55Speaker 1: you've got to do whatever you can to save money.
- 40:57Speaker 1: One of our biggest expenses can be our kind, especially
- 41:00Speaker 1: when unexpected repair bills hit. Not anymore. If you do
- 41:04Speaker 1: own a car trucker SUV made from higher you could
- 41:07Speaker 1: stop paying for KYR repairs. That's right. You might not
- 41:10Speaker 1: have to pay a penny to have it repaired. Just
- 41:12Speaker 1: styal Star Star one seven on your mobile phone now
- 41:15Speaker 1: to see if you qualify. You must have an automobile
- 41:18Speaker 1: made from or higher and all repairs for your engine,
- 41:21Speaker 1: transmission and much more can become a thing of the past.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Dial Star Star one seven on your mobile phone today
- 41:27Speaker 1: and get your car protected before your next repair bill hits.
- 41:30Speaker 1: That's right, total protection for your car and no more
- 41:33Speaker 1: repair bills. Just dial Star Star one seven on your
- 41:37Speaker 1: mobile phone now to see if your car qualifies that
- 41:40Speaker 1: Star Star on seven. Never pay for Kyle repairs again.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Just dial Star Star one seven on your mobile phone now.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Dial Star Star one one four seven. I said hello
- 41:56Speaker 1: and said high that Mike was Will on the other side.
- 41:58Speaker 1: I was ready that what happens? Will you just not focused?
- 42:02Speaker 1: It ought to be successful. You have to be focused,
- 42:06Speaker 1: Sam said Rayshan. It would be nice if you spoke
- 42:08Speaker 1: into the Mica versus. I don't know. I thought I
- 42:14Speaker 1: was doing the stage play there. I was just like
- 42:15Speaker 1: I thought it was a Broadway. You know Broadway you
- 42:18Speaker 1: can project and then even ware in the back there
- 42:20Speaker 1: they'll they'll be able to hear. And in a broadcast
- 42:23Speaker 1: studio is not based on projecting. There's the direction of microphone,
- 42:27Speaker 1: the directional and you better be in front of them
- 42:29Speaker 1: because they're not designed to pick up noise, even though
- 42:31Speaker 1: they will pick up noise or surrounding noise. So your
- 42:34Speaker 1: boy was the way off chilter there. Then welcome to
- 42:38Speaker 1: money making conversation. This is Rushan McDonald. This is another
- 42:40Speaker 1: episode of helping people be smaller about their success stories,
- 42:44Speaker 1: helping people will understand that they can be successful. And
- 42:47Speaker 1: it's about entertainment. CEOs, celebrities, athletes, are entrepreneurs, small business
- 42:54Speaker 1: owners called this show. They called this show because I
- 42:56Speaker 1: get guests on this show that and I allow them
- 42:59Speaker 1: to community kate their story. It's not about promoting myself.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Is by promoting what they have done in their lives
- 43:06Speaker 1: to be successful and their journey or their paths that
- 43:09Speaker 1: they're creating for other people along the way, because it
- 43:12Speaker 1: is about mentorship. Mentorship is the huge term there is
- 43:16Speaker 1: out there now. And the millennials that really embrace the
- 43:20Speaker 1: word mentoring, um, they have no problem uh seeking advice
- 43:24Speaker 1: to be guided along the way, to be UH be
- 43:27Speaker 1: able to say, hey, I want to you have experienced,
- 43:29Speaker 1: will you give me some knowledge? Will you show me,
- 43:32Speaker 1: will you? But you have to be there every day,
- 43:34Speaker 1: and so I couldn't be there every day. So what
- 43:36Speaker 1: happened with me was that I decided that I would
- 43:39Speaker 1: allow myself this show Money Making Conversations, where every week
- 43:42Speaker 1: I can come on the air and I can communicate
- 43:44Speaker 1: and I communicate with various individuals all of the world.
- 43:49Speaker 1: In fact, that how people coming on the show next
- 43:51Speaker 1: month who are from Australia. I'll be doing a couple
- 43:53Speaker 1: of German podcasts UH in November, so my brand is
- 43:58Speaker 1: becoming very global. I'm very happy to say that I'm
- 44:01Speaker 1: affecting people not only in the Great State of Georgia
- 44:04Speaker 1: and the Great State of the United States, but also internationally.
- 44:09Speaker 1: And that's what I do on Money Making Conversation. When
- 44:11Speaker 1: you reach me, you can follow me on all my
- 44:13Speaker 1: social media at Rashaw McDonald as at Rashaan McDonald on Facebook,
- 44:18Speaker 1: Twitter and Instagram, Instagram Popular. We're ready. My final guest
- 44:24Speaker 1: of this particular show is Uh. First time I'm speaking
- 44:27Speaker 1: to him. I'm very happy to have them on my show.
- 44:28Speaker 1: I've been watching I've been catching up on his new
- 44:31Speaker 1: series series David makes Man. So we're gonna talk about today,
- 44:34Speaker 1: But let me introduce exactly who he is. My next
- 44:37Speaker 1: guest is an Academy Award winning screenwriter playwright. It's script
- 44:41Speaker 1: in Moonlight black Boards Like Excuse Me in Moonlight black
- 44:45Speaker 1: Boards Look Blue, is the basis for the Oscar winning
- 44:48Speaker 1: film moon Like, directed by Barry Jenkins, for which Craney
- 44:52Speaker 1: and Jenkins one and Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. He
- 44:56Speaker 1: wrote the film High Flyingburg which I also saw it
- 44:58Speaker 1: was on Netflix. Really really you should watch that, so
- 45:00Speaker 1: next Flix right now. Mccraney's play includes ms Black for
- 45:04Speaker 1: President cod with Tina Landau, their brother's sister plays Trilogy,
- 45:09Speaker 1: Head of Passes Without and Choo Boy, which is nominated
- 45:13Speaker 1: for for Tony Awards. Please Welcome to Money Making Conversation.
- 45:16Speaker 1: The executive doucer and creative owns as Oprah's Network, David
- 45:21Speaker 1: makes Man Terrell Alvin McCraney. Hey, how y'all doing? How
- 45:29Speaker 1: you do? My friend? Well? I'm well, Did I get
- 45:32Speaker 1: everything right? Did I get everything right? And a lot
- 45:34Speaker 1: to say about you, young man? I get everything right? Sure, sure, good?
- 45:40Speaker 1: Thanks so much for having me. Good talking abou Where
- 45:42Speaker 1: are you right now? Where you based there? Right now?
- 45:44Speaker 1: And and uh tell me about what the yet right now,
- 45:49Speaker 1: I'm born and raised in Miami, Florida, which is where
- 45:52Speaker 1: I live currently. UM, and that was the basis for
- 45:56Speaker 1: UM A lot of what we do and did for
- 45:59Speaker 1: the summer moonnight WI shout here in Miami. And the
- 46:01Speaker 1: show David Makes Man takes place in Homestead, Florida, which
- 46:05Speaker 1: is about UM, fifty miles south of Miami proper, uh,
- 46:10Speaker 1: the suburb of the metropolitan area. And UM, it's about
- 46:14Speaker 1: a young man, David, who is just lost his best friend,
- 46:19Speaker 1: his closest friend, and is trying to navigate his home
- 46:22Speaker 1: life and his rise at a very prominent Magnet school
- 46:27Speaker 1: in Miami. UM. So it takes place in the in
- 46:29Speaker 1: the in the outer world and the inner world of
- 46:32Speaker 1: this fourteen year old black boy on on Wednesdays. Well,
- 46:36Speaker 1: you know, it's really interesting. So they're just from a
- 46:39Speaker 1: business perspective, Now do you by by taking the show
- 46:42Speaker 1: and shooting a movie in Florida or their tax breaks
- 46:45Speaker 1: for productions of film and television productions in Florida. No,
- 46:49Speaker 1: there used to be there used to be incentives in
- 46:51Speaker 1: Florida for filming in Florida as a state. UM, and
- 46:55Speaker 1: now there are different municipalities that have taken on trying
- 46:59Speaker 1: to make sure that production stay. So Tampa, I know,
- 47:02Speaker 1: is trying to make sure that there is UM there.
- 47:05Speaker 1: There's a sentence for filming in Orlando, which has Universal
- 47:08Speaker 1: Studios and other studios UM Disney for example, try to
- 47:12Speaker 1: make sure that when filming happens in the in the
- 47:15Speaker 1: area that it is as gentivized. But now we lost
- 47:17Speaker 1: that tax break thanks to some wonderful leadership in the
- 47:21Speaker 1: government and UM and we we lost a lot of production.
- 47:25Speaker 1: So filming in Florida can be costly. But one of
- 47:28Speaker 1: the ways in which we UM engaged that is that
- 47:32Speaker 1: we hired locally. UM. We had an incredible producer, Wayne Morris,
- 47:37Speaker 1: and an incredible crew UM designers and production and crew
- 47:42Speaker 1: in Orlando that helped us UM at Universal Studios and
- 47:45Speaker 1: off in and around the area. We shot a lot
- 47:48Speaker 1: of it on Dr. Phillips High School, which is right
- 47:51Speaker 1: there in the middle of Orlando, and we got UM
- 47:54Speaker 1: we were able to you know, maintain a budget and
- 47:56Speaker 1: some a really great show. But UM it was important
- 47:59Speaker 1: to film in Orleans. It was an important film in
- 48:01Speaker 1: Florida because one that's where the that's where the piece
- 48:05Speaker 1: is set uh and to you know, if if someone
- 48:08Speaker 1: doesn't start bringing the business back there, then no one will.
- 48:11Speaker 1: And so we what we wanted to do a show
- 48:12Speaker 1: folks that there is a cost effective way to bring
- 48:15Speaker 1: business back to an area that is really great and
- 48:18Speaker 1: probably one of the best places to film. I mean,
- 48:21Speaker 1: the weather year round here is incredible. Um. In fact,
- 48:25Speaker 1: our current president was trying to start a film, a
- 48:30Speaker 1: film company, a film a lot here in Homestead, Florida. Well,
- 48:34Speaker 1: I don't know how a lot of that got derailed,
- 48:36Speaker 1: but probably uh through the taxi centers lost me. Um,
- 48:40Speaker 1: he probably lost interest politics. That's what politics do, my friend.
- 48:44Speaker 1: They derailed. They push a good idea, but it doesn't
- 48:47Speaker 1: always come back to have value to anybody's individual life
- 48:50Speaker 1: or success stories. Now here's I'm a sitcom writer, you know,
- 48:56Speaker 1: the Parkers wrote Sister Sister Jamie Foxx show Robert town
- 48:59Speaker 1: To And so you are considered what type of writer?
- 49:05Speaker 1: And what of my what kind of writer? And yesterda
- 49:08Speaker 1: we drama? Are you just you know, do your screenplays
- 49:12Speaker 1: for theater? Because I see a range of our different
- 49:15Speaker 1: type of writing deals that you possess. So you just
- 49:17Speaker 1: say that, So do you write for a particular like,
- 49:20Speaker 1: this is a drama that you have on own? Correct?
- 49:24Speaker 1: That is correct? Okay? Cool? And now just a series
- 49:27Speaker 1: drama on own and uh that's ten episodes. Um. And
- 49:32Speaker 1: we have a show brother who is M. D. Harris
- 49:35Speaker 1: Lawrence right who wrote on things like shots Fired and um,
- 49:40Speaker 1: the Biggie and Tupac story, um and things like that. Right,
- 49:45Speaker 1: So here's interesting about your career. So, so you're from Miami, Florida,
- 49:49Speaker 1: And so how does one on the show money make
- 49:51Speaker 1: a conversations? I try to just tell anybody's story to
- 49:54Speaker 1: a certain degree because everybody sees the end results, and
- 49:57Speaker 1: sometimes the results will tell you the true path or
- 49:59Speaker 1: the path after you took off. Other individuals schooling successful
- 50:03Speaker 1: weether it's in business or film or entertainment or or
- 50:06Speaker 1: some other form of success. How did you? How did
- 50:09Speaker 1: your movie? Your script get in the hands of the
- 50:11Speaker 1: right people? Which one? Moonlight? Moonlight, Black Boys Look Blue?
- 50:18Speaker 1: So in the moon So I wrote in Moonlight when
- 50:20Speaker 1: I was twenty two years old. I just graduated undergrad
- 50:24Speaker 1: from DePaul University. My mother had died of age related complications,
- 50:28Speaker 1: and so I wrote that script, um, because I wanted
- 50:31Speaker 1: to make a film or kind of visual depiction of
- 50:34Speaker 1: what UM it was like growing up UH in Liberty City, UM,
- 50:39Speaker 1: which is where the film takes place, and it was
- 50:40Speaker 1: shot UM, and then UM it sort of sat around
- 50:44Speaker 1: for a very long time. I went on to the
- 50:47Speaker 1: Yale School of Drama UM to study UH playwriting and
- 50:51Speaker 1: screenwriting and UM. I graduated from there and wrote about
- 50:57Speaker 1: six or seven plays UM, and I think I was
- 51:01Speaker 1: on my way to UM. I'd come back to Miami
- 51:05Speaker 1: and shot a couple of short films that I've written
- 51:07Speaker 1: UM with a group called the Borsch Film Festival. Then
- 51:10Speaker 1: a man named Andrew Heavier told me about a young
- 51:13Speaker 1: young man who also grew up in Liberty City, not
- 51:15Speaker 1: three or four blocks away from me, UM, named Barry Jenkins.
- 51:20Speaker 1: And Barry had gone on to become a filmmaker as
- 51:23Speaker 1: well a creative as well, and he had graduated from
- 51:27Speaker 1: Florida State Film UH from the film school at Florida
- 51:30Speaker 1: State UM and was in San Francisco making a few films.
- 51:34Speaker 1: That had made a film UH recently with Borsch called
- 51:38Speaker 1: chlorophill UM that was based in Miami and one of
- 51:41Speaker 1: one of the things that Bosch really wanted and similarly
- 51:43Speaker 1: to what we talked about with David Msman is that
- 51:46Speaker 1: coming back to the city and making h making film
- 51:49Speaker 1: and making work there makes you know, bills an industry.
- 51:52Speaker 1: And so they had brought Barry back to making film.
- 51:54Speaker 1: They've also brought myself back. And while we were here,
- 51:57Speaker 1: we didn't talk to we didn't get a chance to
- 51:59Speaker 1: meet but um, but through the internet we exchanged scripts. Um.
- 52:05Speaker 1: And so Barry had Moonlight for about you know, about
- 52:09Speaker 1: a year, and then he reached out to me and said,
- 52:12Speaker 1: you know, I think I want to make this into
- 52:13Speaker 1: him film. I said, I said, that's great. So that's
- 52:16Speaker 1: how that happened. Wow. And so when when when did
- 52:21Speaker 1: when he said who want to make this into a movie?
- 52:24Speaker 1: Did money run through your mind? The opportunity? What? What
- 52:28Speaker 1: were you having any control over the script? Would you
- 52:30Speaker 1: be would you be pushed out of the project? What
- 52:32Speaker 1: were the thoughts that ran through your mind as a
- 52:34Speaker 1: as a as the person who who wrote the script? Um?
- 52:38Speaker 1: None of those thoughts were in my mind. In fact,
- 52:40Speaker 1: I think maybe naively, I was just I trusted Barry's
- 52:46Speaker 1: integrity um, and which you know he has its face,
- 52:49Speaker 1: and so none of those things ran through my mind.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I thought, you know, here is a feature film that
- 52:54Speaker 1: is about a young man coming of age in Liberty City. UM,
- 52:59Speaker 1: in the artists of poverty. And people don't even know
- 53:02Speaker 1: where Liberty City is. Um. If you told them that
- 53:04Speaker 1: was in Miami, half of the people who you asked
- 53:06Speaker 1: wouldn't even believe you. Um. And so you know, the
- 53:11Speaker 1: venture of it was certainly coming from a personally very
- 53:13Speaker 1: personal place. UM. And and the end result there too.
- 53:17Speaker 1: And very finally UM, you know, sort of redrafted the
- 53:21Speaker 1: script and showed it to me. I was like, this
- 53:23Speaker 1: is amazing. It's exactly what we started with and um,
- 53:26Speaker 1: it takes that and we've weaves together in a feature
- 53:29Speaker 1: length version what we what the voice of the pieces
- 53:33Speaker 1: and when we finally shot it, even seeing it, I
- 53:36Speaker 1: was like, this is a film that's very much of
- 53:37Speaker 1: love letters to the place we grew up. So none
- 53:39Speaker 1: of none of the ideas of money and you know,
- 53:42Speaker 1: losing losing control ever sort of came came over me.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I would tell you this, Uh, your show David makes
- 53:50Speaker 1: Span and every Wednesday on owned network that's Oprah's network.
- 53:54Speaker 1: It's very relatable. I would say that's in closing is
- 53:56Speaker 1: that this show allows a lot of people talk about
- 53:59Speaker 1: athlete to come and getting out of the hood. This
- 54:01Speaker 1: show is talking about people like me. This is story,
- 54:04Speaker 1: this is me I was, I was done. So many
- 54:06Speaker 1: people share this story. But academics can also get you
- 54:09Speaker 1: out of the hood, and people can help you get
- 54:11Speaker 1: out of the hood. The relationships, that's what David makes
- 54:14Speaker 1: Man is about. Very relatable. Thank you for coming to
- 54:17Speaker 1: my show. I'm a fan as you're making millions of
- 54:20Speaker 1: fans every Wednesday on your show. Restrictions may apply, plans
- 54:31Speaker 1: and cost coverage may vary. Call Protected by Car for details.
