- 0:04Hello, and welcome to two girls in a pot.
- 0:06I'm Sharon, I'm Christie. And once again, we are super
- 0:09excited to have a guest on in. What's kind of cool about this
- 0:12one is, we are on vacation to Puerto Vallarta and we ran into
- 0:16these two incredibly talented people who started your own
- 0:20business and so we loved their story.
- 0:24So we're going to get to share that with you guys today.
- 0:26Nice, welcome Martha. Berry and you Uh, owned, Amari
- 0:32folding line, correct? Yes, okay.
- 0:34We're welcome to have to thank you, so glad to have you on.
- 0:38So you've been doing this business for how many years for
- 0:41seven years? It actually be seven years, fun,
- 0:43Jones, 26, which is very cool. Seventh is good number.
- 0:49And it sounds like, you know, we got to sit down and have lunch
- 0:52with you and get to know you a little bit more but your story's
- 0:55really important because for so many people.
- 0:58It didn't it just didn't And overnight.
- 1:01So you were saying that you started out this business, why I
- 1:05started the business because I have been through a divorce and
- 1:09I just wanted to be able to provide for my two girls and so
- 1:13I actually decided to start a business so that I can teach
- 1:18them about generational wealth and you know, just teach them to
- 1:22depend on themselves and not depend on other people for money
- 1:26and just be dependent be there. I mean be very independent.
- 1:30So you said you started out married and you wanted to still
- 1:35do this but that it kind of just wasn't working with the
- 1:38marriage. Yes, it just wasn't working
- 1:40because my previous husband wanted me to not start a
- 1:45business and so I was like, but this is my passion.
- 1:48And so, I decided to after we decided to not be married, any
- 1:53longer, I decided to just go ahead and start the business.
- 1:56So what I did was, I did it correctly.
- 1:57I took six months of research. Arches.
- 2:00So that it when I was started that I can study correctly and
- 2:04legally. So for you was that a difficult
- 2:07process to learn to navigate that it was very difficult
- 2:11because I didn't have a mentor. I made a lot of bad financial
- 2:14decisions with, you know, buying inventory and different things
- 2:17like that. So it was very difficult because
- 2:20I didn't have anybody to help me.
- 2:21So I had to do everything myself.
- 2:24So that's part of the reasons why I have a mentorship program
- 2:27now, where I teach ladies or Guys, or whoever to start a
- 2:31boutique and not make some of the mistakes that I made.
- 2:35And, you know, that was the thing I really liked about your
- 2:37stories, because one of the things we really promote is
- 2:39mentoring others. If you have a skill, and you can
- 2:42pass that on and help somebody else to be successful.
- 2:45When there are new therapist or whatever, I'll be there, like,
- 2:48don't reinvent the wheel here. If you need this paperwork,
- 2:51don't, it's that think of helping others out, and which is
- 2:54another big part of what you do. So, and where I really want to
- 2:57get into that as well. Because it's something that we
- 3:00About a lot give back to the community because it's the
- 3:04community that gives to you. Yes, and you talk about that
- 3:08partnership with your community. So you started this, you said
- 3:12you didn't have a mentor and then how did you turn all that
- 3:15around? What because you talk to us
- 3:17about manifestation. So I pretty much, you know, I'm
- 3:20a Christian and I am a woman of faith and so I was taught how to
- 3:24manifest things how to write it down, make it clean.
- 3:26And so I went in all these celebrities there.
- 3:29Um, so I wanted to work with and I asked them to wear my clothes.
- 3:33I'm use any perfect terminology. I just went, hey, you know, I'm
- 3:38the owner of amun-re Boutique. I would love to see you some
- 3:41pieces from charge, if you would just wear them to take me,
- 3:44straight to the point and nobody answered.
- 3:47But, six months later, it was different.
- 3:49I met with one person who was my number one fan and because of
- 3:54her wearing the pieces, everybody who I wanted to wear
- 3:56the outfits actually ordered because of her.
- 4:00To me. So it was funny that when they
- 4:03were weary and they will go to tag me, they would see that.
- 4:06I have reached out to them like years were like oh you were in
- 4:08my damn, yes. So that's how I say.
- 4:11I manifested this thing and I still do that to this day.
- 4:14I write down in crazy ideas and be like, okay, I wanted to do
- 4:17something, is that in it always manifested.
- 4:20So you have to speak it and you have to believe it and you have
- 4:23to have faith in yourself and trust, God, that it will work
- 4:26out and it will, it might not happen the next day in my Not
- 4:30happen, three days later but when it happens, it happens.
- 4:33And you just have to be ready to receive it.
- 4:35Well I think that's the important thing.
- 4:37How difficult was it to receive it too?
- 4:38Because even though I think that a lot of times because you know,
- 4:42a lot of times people want it when I want and then they
- 4:43haven't like, oh shit. Yeah now that was tough because
- 4:49I didn't know what to do when it started and I never forget I had
- 4:53got a job offer, I've been looking for a job looking for a
- 4:57job looking for a job and so the lady had The person I was
- 5:01talking about she has for like five outfits.
- 5:03I sent them all to her, so I had got a job opportunity.
- 5:06I never made $35 an hour. So I was like okay what the hell
- 5:11is? So it wasn't matching with the
- 5:13time because I was like, it's no way I can be there at 7:00 when
- 5:17I got to drop my girls off the school and so I was going crazy,
- 5:21trying to figure it out. And you know, one thing I did
- 5:24want to do is put my girls In Harm's Way.
- 5:27And so my mom told me, she said, Going to happen to the job.
- 5:30No. And I was like, I'm just a
- 5:32certified as I widen already calculated for the hours.
- 5:35I'm gonna try to calculate this planning and so she said that it
- 5:40would God, God is not the author of confusion and he would not
- 5:43give you something with this much chaos if it's for you to
- 5:47have it. So you're going to have to tell
- 5:48them. No and so I remember that Friday
- 5:51telling them. No.
- 5:52I was so depressed. I just went I went to bed by
- 5:558:00. I was so so so depressed.
- 5:57So the person who wore my clothes she is I guess on the
- 6:00west coast in California and so it's eight o'clock.
- 6:04I went to bed. So it's 10 notice, 12:00
- 6:08midnight, almost midnight. And I hear my phone do this to
- 6:11do this. I'm like, what the hell is going
- 6:13on? My view is 10:00 her time so she
- 6:17wears the outfit. She post me when I checked my
- 6:20PayPal early that day. My balance was like $14.
- 6:23That's all I had my fill of a balance when I got up my villa
- 6:27balance was like 4500. So I'm Like what the hell is
- 6:31like? What is going on?
- 6:33Because that was the first time she had wore.
- 6:35Something of mine that was really cute, and it was going
- 6:38viral and the people were shopping and then they were in
- 6:41my DM's, are you restocking? And I'm just like, oh my God,
- 6:44what is a restock if you're not what?
- 6:46I don't know, anything about restocking.
- 6:48And so I really can't do anything till Monday because the
- 6:51vendors are not open all weekend.
- 6:53So I placed the order the fractal Saturday morning, but I
- 6:57had to wait till Monday for themselves.
- 6:59Okay, you order is good. It's going to ship out.
- 7:02So I understood then that if I had took that job, I when the
- 7:08baby been able to restock, keep the sales coming in and then I
- 7:12wouldn't have been able to like shift the orders because I have
- 7:14been at work all day. So it kind of was like I
- 7:17understood at that moment like why couldn't take that job?
- 7:19Like manifestation was right around the corner and she would
- 7:23have closed. So it was just one of those
- 7:25things where I had so I can really trust God and that will
- 7:28support. They helped me with my faith.
- 7:29Because I say now that I'm a woman of Faith, but I really
- 7:33didn't have faith starting out. I will call my mom and ask her
- 7:36for prayers. I will be like Mom, he'll new
- 7:38mom and she was like, I'm not gonna always be around like you
- 7:41have to figure this thing out. So that was one of those reasons
- 7:45that would that was one of the things that helped me with faith
- 7:48and realize like, oh my God, God really did this thing that he
- 7:51did it real fast. It's so that's what health with
- 7:53my face because my faith was really tested.
- 7:56Like while I'm going through divorce like wild went through
- 7:59abuse. I'm homeless.
- 8:01Why all this is happening to me. Like if you want me to trust
- 8:04that and it was at that time that you were homeless.
- 8:07No it was a year later that I was homeless.
- 8:09I even after my business started blowing up, I still had a moment
- 8:13because I didn't have I started the business with zero dollars
- 8:17so I didn't have investors. And so my money was just
- 8:21flipping to pay the bills and buy a little more inventory.
- 8:24And then flipping again to pay the bills and buy a little more
- 8:26inventory because I don't have a job.
- 8:28It's so you know there's only so much Inventory.
- 8:30You can buy his own some of the bills that you could buy when
- 8:32you're doing it alone. And so at that point is when I
- 8:35got home, like, even me being high up, I got homeless.
- 8:39And, of course, I was homeless for only two to three weeks and
- 8:43then everything started working out for me.
- 8:46And then a year, later of me, being up for a payment,
- 8:49everything was working out. I did get a job.
- 8:52I think I was on the job for six months, I was able to do all my
- 8:55daughter stuff for school. I bought her senior package, I
- 8:58paid for her prom dress. I did.
- 8:59These things because I knew some layouts.
- 9:01Got the walk off the job. And when I walked off that time,
- 9:04like I felt like a woman, like, I finally was able to tell these
- 9:09people I'm done. And they're like, you're sorry,
- 9:12you know, you got two kids, how you going to just leave your
- 9:15kids with nothing and I was like, God would open a door,
- 9:18this big for me, not to walk in it.
- 9:21And so I left and from that moment, my business just went
- 9:24crazy and I just did it. So that was at the time when I
- 9:29read it. Had to like, trust God, because
- 9:32I had got a storefront at a commercial place where they
- 9:36wanted to see financials. I'm like whatever financials.
- 9:39You know, and I'm like they want to fix this cuz I'm gonna get
- 9:45approved and they told me we really want you to store and you
- 9:48know, because they saw the growth on the Instagram and so
- 9:50like three days pasted. I got three days passed.
- 9:53I got antsy, I called them, hay and my approved.
- 9:56So it was that that top that business talk.
- 9:59Well, we're Looking at all applications and we'll contact
- 10:01you. So I wasn't shit out.
- 10:02I'm back. You know, I don't get it and
- 10:05they call back two days later and was like, we really want you
- 10:08to have this little. We're going to go ahead and give
- 10:09it to you and they paid for my build-out.
- 10:11I mean, it was just so grateful and then the next week I got
- 10:15like my townhouse, I don't know how I got that because you're
- 10:19not to have their the credit. So it was all those things that
- 10:23when I stopped dating and really focused on God and focused on my
- 10:27business like my business started.
- 10:29Growing and then he started proving himself to me like I got
- 10:33you. So I think that was a moment
- 10:35where I had to depend solely on him for me to realize that I
- 10:38couldn't get any of this in doing myself or even have
- 10:43somebody to say I did that for you and it was God, that
- 10:46actually did everything awesome. And then cuz you you started
- 10:51this business and there's always that a lot of anxiety around it.
- 10:56How did you navigate the anxiety?
- 10:58Absolutely. But I have a lot of.
- 11:02Okay, my anxiety is weird because I know people get
- 11:05anxiety like when you're broke and you're not making money, but
- 11:09I get anxiety. When I'm making money.
- 11:12I didn't side to it. I drop every Friday.
- 11:14I get assigned to every Friday. I drop this weird, but after
- 11:18almost seven years I still do it.
- 11:20I get inside too because I'm like, oh my God.
- 11:22Are they gonna like it? Oh my God.
- 11:23Is going to be well. Oh my God, it's a side going to
- 11:25not crash because I've had times in my side crash and we have to
- 11:28wait till it come back up. So It's different things like
- 11:30that, cause them to have anxiety.
- 11:32And what I do is I do go to a therapist, you're not.
- 11:36No, they said it didn't bear running believe in a therapist
- 11:39but it's just somebody. I can talk to, you know, and
- 11:42just talk about things because when you become a spotlight or
- 11:48you become a certain person, it's scary sometimes where you
- 11:54can't go certain places along. You can't tag certain places
- 11:58because people are outside looking in So that's the type of
- 12:00thing is that I did inside to Frank sometimes or, you know,
- 12:03even when I go to church, sometimes I can just be myself
- 12:06and for the church, but somebody always know me.
- 12:08So those are the type of things I could decide to from and
- 12:11select. I said, I have a therapist.
- 12:13I do a lot of staycations and I just do a lot of times.
- 12:17We're okay, it's no work. I'm just wanting to take time
- 12:22out to relax. Like, you know, now on vacation,
- 12:25it's no work. I told my husband doesn't speak
- 12:28in. You believe I am.
- 12:29Answer one email, because when we go on vacation, like I want
- 12:33the laptop, I forgot the freaking charge at home.
- 12:36So firefight, I think that was gone.
- 12:40Like, I want you to take this vacation and don't do a thing,
- 12:44you know, it's like all my vendors.
- 12:47I have like, maybe I do my vendors, I have like a top four
- 12:51in there. Like, we have relationships,
- 12:53like we're mother-daughter, you know, a sister sister, depending
- 12:56on the age and so they all been like you deserve it.
- 12:59She works so hard, you know, stuff like that.
- 13:02So like they're not even texting me.
- 13:04So I'm gonna go blow my phone up when I get back, but it's things
- 13:07like that is like those are the type of things that can help
- 13:09with anxiety, to help you navigate through because anxiety
- 13:13is real, you know, I've had it where my chest is pounding, and
- 13:17I wouldn't travel because I'm scared of dolls.
- 13:20So I will see the dolls in the airport.
- 13:23I know y'all, like, what the hell is she talking about?
- 13:24So I was scared of the security dolls even though they own the
- 13:27league, oh okay. You know, the big dolls and so
- 13:29Soul on their thinking, the little dogs on their patent.
- 13:34It is, it could be one of the carry, I'm going to jump and I'm
- 13:37gonna screen and so all this money and I wouldn't trouble if
- 13:42it wasn't someone. We could drive, I wouldn't go.
- 13:45And so last year, I was like enough is enough like I'm seeing
- 13:49all my friends and you know, all my friends to a successful.
- 13:53They're going to Jamaica going to Cancun.
- 13:56Just jump it up. Just going everywhere and I was
- 13:58like dummy. That all this money.
- 14:01If you just drive the San Antonio, drop the officer.
- 14:04If so, I put it, I said last year that.
- 14:07So that's what my anxiety really came from.
- 14:09And I said this year, after that tornado happen, when I turn 80
- 14:14hit my bills and we lost everything, we literally saw the
- 14:18roof. Like the roof was going to be
- 14:20like we lost everything. Almost a hundred thousand
- 14:24dollars worth of inventory. So when that happened I was like
- 14:29Like, you asked me to travel because life is too short and
- 14:34thing has happened so fast. Like the day before that, we
- 14:37were at the galleria shopping, you know, and then the tornado
- 14:40happen. And so I booked a table for
- 14:44trips. I went to Jamaica.
- 14:47We have laid all went to Cancun. Then I was in Paris.
- 14:51I was like, I mean, I just was gone and I was like, I would
- 14:54never do a flight over two hours ago, we were in Paris and I was
- 14:59Right. You know what?
- 15:00I overcame my fears and then the following year within been to.
- 15:06So it was funny that we never. I never saw dollars in the
- 15:09airport. Let all your last year when I
- 15:11travel. And so we went to Mark went to
- 15:14Vegas in March and it was me and my husband because somebody have
- 15:19to be with me to call me down. When I move traveling, it's
- 15:22familiar with to March for his birthday in our wedding
- 15:25anniversary. And so he said, oh shit.
- 15:29Martha Don't Panic calm down. I'm like, what the hell is wrong
- 15:33with you? Because I was, you know, I'm
- 15:34short. So I don't see nothing like what
- 15:37are you talkin about salts? I look, that's the old and he
- 15:41was like, baby, just breathe. And I started fishing it and he
- 15:44was like just bring because I would take the CBD coming before
- 15:47we get to the airport, but I didn't need them.
- 15:49So this time I figure all the dog.
- 15:51Can I come inside to take one. It's so I was like just going
- 15:55crazy and so he was like baby just calm down.
- 15:58So we get to the They're telling us to watch side by side but
- 16:01with the dog was, sniffing the actual carry on.
- 16:05So he was like give me your carry-on.
- 16:06I said this point I don't have nothing.
- 16:08I was like at attention like just walking straight focus and
- 16:14it was so crazy because two weeks later and I did it.
- 16:17I was so happy. I was like I did it.
- 16:19It did two weeks later, me and my youngest daughter went to
- 16:22Cancun. So I was like, oh shit, the damn
- 16:24dog again, and so this she's scared.
- 16:27So, at this point, I had to be him.
- 16:29I'm to her but he'll I'm scared. So I'm like hold my hand.
- 16:34So we stopped the whole airport like because my daughter is a
- 16:38drama. It's like the guy was I baby
- 16:40he's not going to harm you. I'm like hell you helping me so
- 16:43he was like Mom is not gonna let nothing happen to you who liked
- 16:46it and I liked how it felt was something that I felt myself
- 16:51being him to her and we just walked straight through.
- 16:55I kept the character in the middle and I was like, I mean,
- 16:58we walked fast and we got on the other side just like mine.
- 17:03Did it. It's like that moment I
- 17:04realized, like, I really overcame.
- 17:07The one thing that would give me anxiety.
- 17:10So now I'm catching flights and I just go, that was the only
- 17:13thing, it wasn't airplanes. The only thing that kept me from
- 17:17Catching flights and travel enjoying myself was seeing the
- 17:21security dollars. How?
- 17:23Interesting. And, you know, I think that
- 17:25people do understand anxiety for everybody is so different.
- 17:29It can be about anything, but I'll try.
- 17:33You right now. If there was a spider in this
- 17:35room right now and she sought she be acting the fool and I
- 17:37have to pause this because she don't care and I told her I said
- 17:42honey we can't she goes that is one fear I will keep so she
- 17:47don't want help with I just want it.
- 17:52My neighbor has we moved to a certain vision and is very quiet
- 17:57and our neighbor has a rock, a rock bottom.
- 18:02Robert tell that it's older and it was the first year we moved
- 18:06there and it was Christmas and the wife was putting out
- 18:09Christmas decorations. So we come home from church and
- 18:12down, dog is outside. So I'm just like okay like I'm
- 18:15waiting on her to see us drive up and put this dog up.
- 18:18She didn't. So I roll the window down.
- 18:22Hey, can you put your dog up? She said, oh, she's not gonna do
- 18:25nothing. I say I am scared of dolls and
- 18:29your the HLA said the dog needs to be on the least.
- 18:32You know I'm sorry I'm calling out rules here.
- 18:34So she wanted she put the dog up and so I was like like I don't
- 18:39want to be mean with my neighbors.
- 18:40Like I want them to know some men, her husband like we started
- 18:43talking and I started telling him and he was like that dog.
- 18:46I've ever been where I'm at the end when I tell you that we walk
- 18:49outside. And then don't look at us like
- 18:51y'all stupid and he wrote run to you, he ain't budging, he coming
- 18:56around you. He came my garage by three
- 18:59months ago, my oldest daughter was in there and she busts
- 19:02through the house. But she was like, I don't even
- 19:04know why I did this. Because the dog looked at me
- 19:07like, girl, what is wrong with you?
- 19:09Like, I'm not chasing you. I just want the coast evils in
- 19:11the garage. It's so when I tell you like
- 19:13that dog is really trained but like I think was scared to noses
- 19:17like when it's little your keys and like the route Dollars just
- 19:20hollering and screaming and making a noise and I don't get
- 19:23no, that's the type of stuff that like kind of scares me, but
- 19:26I'm to the point now, like, okay, if it's on the leash, I
- 19:29should be okay and like with the security, they're here to help
- 19:33us. They're not trying to harm, you
- 19:36know? So just talk.
- 19:38Yes. Like, you know cuz what you got,
- 19:43you're not going to go on the trip.
- 19:44That's all you'll be sitting at home.
- 19:46So I had somebody start talking to myself, like I don't want To
- 19:50just take staycations in Houston hotel or take a trip dry.
- 19:55You still got to get, like, I don't like driving now and you
- 19:57got now, he'll tell you, when I go to Dallas fly, I don't want
- 20:02to fly it and, you know, the simple day I'm flying, we're
- 20:05fine because now it's like, okay, it's so much fun and it's
- 20:09so much quicker. Oh yeah, that's what she always
- 20:11says. Yeah, what's she done to
- 20:12overcome some fear to with but flying you didn't like the fly.
- 20:17Oh, that know. My first flight was horrible,
- 20:22horrible, and I thought this must be and I thought, no, maybe
- 20:26it's just know, is that can fly. It was just as bad.
- 20:29I said, no, I don't think I meant and then we get together
- 20:33and she's, they're like, what's wrong with you?
- 20:36And in fact we're flying to Houston and see my sister and
- 20:40the flight was not good and I am there like it was so turbulent
- 20:45and I'd never been on a flight like that so that freaks me out
- 20:48and I was like, what But she's like this is what I usually go
- 20:52through and I'm like really don't like fucking now every
- 20:57flight after that's fine, we've had wonderful flights.
- 21:00I don't mind it now but even to we want to go to Europe and we
- 21:04went to a because I'm there like I can't be in a flight for that
- 21:06many hours. I in the fly over the ocean and
- 21:09you go through all these things on.
- 21:10So many of my clients who listen, yes therapists have
- 21:13anxiety as well because we do you know, whatever it is but the
- 21:17thing is is it's what do you do to overcome?
- 21:20And that's what I've done now we fly and we love trouble, we love
- 21:23meeting people, we love culture and all of that which we talked
- 21:27about the importance of travel. Is it really does has the
- 21:31ability to touch your soul in a different way because of the
- 21:34people, you meet the cultures, you get to engage with and those
- 21:38things are important for you when you travel.
- 21:41So like us, you know, we're traveling in this is our
- 21:43vacation, but we met you. We loved your story means if,
- 21:45you know, let's do this. So kind of work a little bit.
- 21:48Do you ever get that one? You're traveling.
- 21:50Where? If somebody sees an outfit,
- 21:52you're wearing, they might say, oh my God, I love that out
- 21:54fishing. Yeah, and provide my website in
- 21:58just just throughout. I just did a whole Spiel and
- 22:03it's because I love what I do and I love my brand and I love
- 22:07what it stands for. And so, you know, even like
- 22:10different races when they see me in the airport.
- 22:12Like one time, I think we were going to La and my daughter
- 22:17having this outfit and they just fell in love with it.
- 22:20With her sight and we're bonded, just most weapons, an airport,
- 22:23it was awfully cute little travel outfit.
- 22:25And so I just want to a whole Spiel and then when people go to
- 22:28my Instagram like, oh my God, and they're like, how did you do
- 22:31all of this? And I'm like, just faith in me
- 22:34just working hard and push it through it and not giving up
- 22:37like even when it got really hard, I just try my best to not
- 22:40give up and just be surrounded by positive people in your head.
- 22:45When did you like was their magical number, or what was it
- 22:49that you said? That and said, oh my God, I'm
- 22:51successful. I would say it was when I had an
- 22:56opportunity to go to the Stella warts.
- 23:00So the Stella warrants is like a show is almost like the Grammys.
- 23:04But it's like African-American or whoever gospel music is held
- 23:09in Vegas. And so that was the in between
- 23:12part of me walking off the job. I had that a call, it was like,
- 23:16I want you to come, I want you to bring your clothes and sit up
- 23:19here and say, I'm not going to charge you anything.
- 23:21I just need you to get here and so I was like, okay, how the
- 23:25hell I'm supposed to do this with no money?
- 23:26So of course, finding a flight that quick 44.
- 23:31People was like, five thousand dollars that I didn't have.
- 23:34So we was like, you know what, we're going to get a
- 23:3515-passenger van, we will drive to Vegas for Houston, 22 hours
- 23:41and we're going to make it work. It's so when I saw when I got
- 23:46there and I saw all these people that Let oh my God, you're
- 23:51right. I was just like, you know, and I
- 23:59am be one of them. And so at that point is when I
- 24:02realized to just walk in it and I was like, I really am
- 24:06successful. Like for you to go.
- 24:07I can't go nowhere else. My don't know me.
- 24:10And it's like, I always get caught looking crazy.
- 24:13Like, that's my seeming, like, like so embarrassed, like they
- 24:17all look like they catch me on Starbucks, running something.
- 24:19But that's that's time side and then I realized like I really am
- 24:23successful, like somebody know me and then it's going to be
- 24:25like, oh my God like I follow you on Instagram and you were
- 24:30homeless and not you're a millionaire.
- 24:32It's that's the type of thing is that's like oh my God.
- 24:35I'm so successful because I'm inspiring other people, and
- 24:40that's what it's all about. When you can Inspire.
- 24:42Somebody money is good, money is not everything.
- 24:46Because let me tell you money, bring I'm out.
- 24:51You get a whole lot of cousins and a whole lot of sisters in
- 24:53the whole lot of brothers. So and you have to be okay with
- 24:57saying? No because I was a yes person.
- 25:01Yes, yes yes, yes, yes. And I sort of realizing it when
- 25:04I was homeless all those people told, you know but you're
- 25:06telling them. Yes.
- 25:08And so that's things. I had to learn to be a to stop
- 25:13being a yes, person not to be selfish, but to have the sermon,
- 25:17in help people, who really needs help versus just saying, yes, to
- 25:21everything. And even to this day, I'd be
- 25:24having decisions that I be like Ellie.
- 25:26What to do? I'm a mom.
- 25:27No, baby, you need to pray and ask God, what you need to do
- 25:30because I'm so yes, I do it. Yes, I do it.
- 25:34I'll do it. I'll do it.
- 25:35And it's like, you're going to bring yourself down.
- 25:38So success brings heartache, it brings loneliness is brain
- 25:44separation. Like I've had so many best
- 25:49friends that I've lost just for me being successful and is the
- 25:54crazy part is happening. People Prayed for me to be
- 25:57successful. They believe they me but then in
- 25:59their prayers would be answered so they couldn't handle it.
- 26:02Well, I think that's hard. It's being able to where we say
- 26:07always gravitate to those. People who truly are invested in
- 26:10you, your success but not the success of the money, but the
- 26:15success of you as an individual, you know?
- 26:18I mean and when you find those people, we're like that, we have
- 26:21this group of people and we cherish them, we have gratitude
- 26:25for them all the time, because it doesn't matter if we have one
- 26:29listener or a thousand wishes, it doesn't matter those people
- 26:33are there like, oh my God, you're successful, and then you
- 26:36start to it starts to build on That as well.
- 26:39You know what I mean? And I think that's what you're
- 26:41talking about is being able to discern.
- 26:43Who really is there for me and who is not right.
- 26:47It whose dad not just because of money.
- 26:48Exactly like hey I see you've been working hard, are you okay?
- 26:53Hey I see, you've been working hard.
- 26:55Let's go have dinner. Hey, we miss my.
- 26:57I have a friend that I'm friends with the mom and my daughters
- 27:00friends with the daughter. So we do my middle daughter
- 27:02dates. Hey, we missed it for two
- 27:03months. What's the deal?
- 27:05Like it's those type of people than lets, you know.
- 27:08Know that I'm not just here because you have money like we
- 27:12really do a staycation or hey, let's go get ice cream or hey,
- 27:16let's go out to eat or hey, it's just simple things like that.
- 27:20That's like, okay, versus hey, can I borrow this a heck?
- 27:24I'm like, so it's to the point now that sometimes people call
- 27:27me. Obviously, I do like, what you
- 27:29want, what, you know, and I hate to do that but it's just Like,
- 27:38that's the only time you call like, when are you going to call
- 27:41and check on me, right? Albert bear horde, I run a
- 27:45multi-millionaire a business, you know, and it's not easy,
- 27:49it's hard. Plus I got to do all these other
- 27:51things the week. So when are you just going to
- 27:53call and say, hello? Or are you good?
- 27:57Do you need help? Yeah.
- 27:58Well why you didn't call me? You see what I'm posting?
- 28:02Why do I have to call call an offer?
- 28:05That's the type of in. I was grown up to.
- 28:08I I was taught growing up my mom to always call and see if you
- 28:13need help. Now I'm a beast.
- 28:15Tell the truth that I'm in a point now that I'm so busy.
- 28:19I don't call as often but I'm so busy.
- 28:23When I think about it I will call.
- 28:25So that's one thing that I'm trying to learn to balance to
- 28:29make time to call make the law around and call everybody.
- 28:33But still, it's the people who called big and all the time.
- 28:38Yeah. And I think that's always hard
- 28:40and we all we talk about that because I'll say, oh my God, we
- 28:42haven't talked to our friend Colleen and well and Chelsea
- 28:45out. Let's do that.
- 28:45And then it's put behind and we're whoever it is and we've
- 28:49kind of make this our year of really doing stuff with
- 28:53intention. We will reach out to those
- 28:57people with intention because we appreciate him in your rice.
- 29:01Not like you don't appreciate him or you're not thinking about
- 29:03them. But, you know, you're sitting
- 29:04there thinking I got 300 items to get out.
- 29:07How am I going to have? Right.
- 29:09So, it's that balancing, but I think it's when you have those
- 29:11relationships and they are those that are investing e, they
- 29:14understand it, you know, saying, but it's finding those people,
- 29:18and then making sure you do that with intention in order to keep
- 29:22them in your life, right? So there's that balance and
- 29:24then, I mean, we work on that balance, don't we?
- 29:27Yeah, it's not always easy but those strong connections are
- 29:30really important. Yes they are.
- 29:32It really are it really is and then it shows you like when the
- 29:35connections are real. Yes.
- 29:37Because one Argument really show you a person is in a lot of
- 29:41times, it's just, let's just have a conversation.
- 29:44And if we have a conversation and we can't say, hey, what were
- 29:47you in for lunch, or where we going, and you still holding
- 29:50onto baggage or drama, then it's then you just found that their
- 29:53relationship go. But I feel like some
- 29:56relationships require conversation.
- 29:58If you really love that person, if you really want that person
- 30:02to be in your life, whether it's a marriage or what this, a
- 30:04friend or just whatever. But then when you have that
- 30:09conversation your realize, okay, I'm going to let this person go
- 30:12or I need to stick by this person because they just crazy
- 30:15at the moment. Be crazy at the moment and he is
- 30:22sitting here silently just so you know.
- 30:24So he is hearing all the other thing you do that.
- 30:30We really liked was your think about getting back, talk a
- 30:33little bit about that. So I do have a nonprofit that I
- 30:36just thought it would even before the nonprofit.
- 30:38Just caught on my repairs, but even before the nonprofit, I
- 30:41always gave back because I never really had anybody to just do
- 30:46handouts to me. So I was like, I want to be able
- 30:49to make a difference. So even like how I first got it
- 30:52back is having the mentorship program where I would teach
- 30:56other ladies or men who wanted to start a business, I would
- 30:59teach them how to suck a distance from beginning to end.
- 31:03Even give them vendors. I would give them like, the
- 31:05sauce. And if long as you stuck, To it,
- 31:08you could be successful. And so then I went behind that I
- 31:12was like, you know, I want to give monetary prizes are
- 31:15different things. So I started off with 100 and it
- 31:17went to 250 didn't wit 2000. Now I'm giving up to like five
- 31:21thousand for certain things that my nonprofit 64 which is like
- 31:25helping high school. Graduates helping college
- 31:28students were really already entrepreneurs.
- 31:31Just helping them get there and then helping single in homeless
- 31:35ladies. Well not so much what signal and
- 31:37homeless His who are facing homeless like help them, you
- 31:41know, provide for them. And so, giving back as always,
- 31:45I'm just a giver. I'm a Virgo and we give, but I
- 31:50just always, was taught if you give you will receive.
- 31:55And so the bigger your give the bigger that you receive in so.
- 31:59But I do have to have discernment in that area because
- 32:03I'll just give it all the way. So that's a thing that you know,
- 32:06I work on but I just feel like Like sometimes you just never
- 32:09realized that it's one of those moments.
- 32:12Like, when God said me do something and I give it it.
- 32:14Did you hear the testimony behind it?
- 32:16Where it's like, if you don't believe, I just went through
- 32:19something and I was praying for a blessing and it be those
- 32:22moments when I'm like, oh my God, God is really dealing with
- 32:25me. So I don't take those for
- 32:28granted, but I'm just a good right heart and I just want to
- 32:31see people win and I just want to help out.
- 32:33And it's not to say, oh, I gave such a such as just noise to be
- 32:37like, I Point they help they worked.
- 32:40You know. Well, I think that's what it is.
- 32:42You know, when you look at those relationships and when you have
- 32:45that ability to, or you don't even know where your part is in
- 32:49and, you know, I tell you, whenever you come into people's
- 32:52lives, you're playing a role in their life.
- 32:54You often don't know what that role is and Greg sometimes, you
- 32:57know, five years down the road, you know you here.
- 33:00Oh yeah, that moment I talk with you, you know, I was in an
- 33:03abusive relationship or whatever and I thought, you know what, I
- 33:06can get out and I can do it. It doesn't matter.
- 33:08What it is. You don't know the impact
- 33:10sometimes, but it's there, you know, all of those.
- 33:13That's it, always call it. That exchange of energy that
- 33:16everybody we come across whether we're in their presence for five
- 33:20seconds, five minutes or five years.
- 33:22Right. There's an exchange of energy.
- 33:24And what happens with that, you know, is such a powerful thing.
- 33:27It has it has the ability to move people in really Positive
- 33:31Directions. And that's one of the things
- 33:33with our podcast. We want people to we want
- 33:36everybody to be successful, we want Buddy to be the best
- 33:39version of they can possibly be because we live in a world
- 33:42sometimes that is pushing back against us, you know?
- 33:47I mean and I'm sure you had that where you were trying to be
- 33:52successful, but there were either people, who are doubting
- 33:54you or doing stuff like that. That was about taking away from
- 33:59your progress and your success. Yeah, I had to get to the point
- 34:02to where I'll stop telling certain people certain things
- 34:04because they'd understand it. And so I would have to wait
- 34:08Until it happened even though I owe because I was always talked
- 34:13out of things because when a person understand it's not that
- 34:16they don't have faith, but when a person hasn't seen something
- 34:20Urban around it or even experience they self, you can't
- 34:24go to certain people and tell them things because then you're
- 34:26going to get a negative response and does not always that they
- 34:30don't believe in you, or they don't want to see.
- 34:31You grow is just that they never experienced it.
- 34:34So they don't know how to say. Oh yeah, this is going to work.
- 34:38So, now a lot of times even with my daughter, in my husband, I
- 34:44want it big like when you thought of my disk could be
- 34:47because they are. Sometimes I feel like they don't
- 34:49understand me. So, like, I have to find a way
- 34:51to make it look good and make a sound good but not understand me
- 34:55to be on the same page. And so that's and sometimes I do
- 35:00stuff in it. Like okay.
- 35:02So you just went out there and did it.
- 35:03Yep, I did it. Here it is.
- 35:05And so, I think it's because a lot of times I I feel like they
- 35:08don't, it's not that they don't believe in me but because
- 35:11they've never experienced it. They'll kind of talked me off
- 35:14the ledge and sometimes I won't be talking about the ladies,
- 35:17like I want you to do it. And so that's things that I deal
- 35:21with the. So I know who to talk to in
- 35:23about what to talk to with certain people.
- 35:27And it just works that way. It's not that I'm keeping
- 35:30secrets of holding anything back, but it's just like, I know
- 35:33who the my ride or die in that moment, you know, like my
- 35:37husband was go so far. Or my daughter going to go slow
- 35:39for a my mom's gonna go so far. But me, I'm going all the way.
- 35:42So then I sneak it in and be like, oh, I did this.
- 35:45This this and he's like, what? And so that's just how I roll.
- 35:49So, sometimes you need to be supervised is what I'm hearing.
- 35:52Yeah. Well, and sometimes, you know,
- 35:56you just got to do that, you know, and I think that
- 35:59sometimes, you know, people have to step by side, those Comfort
- 36:02zones. It sounds like you've done a lot
- 36:04of that, you know, because there is such fear and anxiety of
- 36:07starting a business and doing everything you do, sorry, one
- 36:10small. You do want to just take the
- 36:11reins and say, I'm going to do it.
- 36:13Yeah. And sometimes it's successful,
- 36:15maybe. Sometimes it's not but it's
- 36:17always an experience, right? It should you also give to you
- 36:22said that sometimes, Times with school coming up.
- 36:25That's a big time for you as well.
- 36:26Yes. Try to do different things for I
- 36:30haven't done like a bit back-to-school drive or anything
- 36:34like that, but I have done things like where I try to pay
- 36:37attention to the social media. Different things where I see
- 36:41people suffering are going through things.
- 36:43With put a little things out there and I try to go that way.
- 36:47And I also try to help teachers because I know like with them
- 36:50having to buy school clothes and supplies.
- 36:53Eyes and decorate a room, you know, that's important.
- 36:56So I always try to help a few teachers as well just to try to
- 36:59take some things off their hand, you know, financially and
- 37:01mentally. Because if you financially
- 37:04drained and it's going to mess with your mentors, but missed
- 37:06your physical. And so that's things that I try
- 37:09to do it as well. Just try to, you know, help and
- 37:12give back and be a part. One of the, I think you talked
- 37:15with us about, was your, give your customer appreciation.
- 37:20So which I thought was great because he I said going to do
- 37:23this again. Hmm.
- 37:25So talk a little bit about that, so everybody can hear that they
- 37:28will be up-and-coming saw is the customer appreciation where I'm
- 37:32doing Bob cell and so you get it.
- 37:35Be value of anywhere from 250 to 300 you.
- 37:38It's a mystery box cell so we pick it and where it's from four
- 37:40to six items with stuff. The Box, we send it to the
- 37:42customers and a lot of times it's brand-new stuff.
- 37:46So it's not so you never really risk.
- 37:48Well, what about if I were to have that?
- 37:50Because I do have customers who shop with me every single
- 37:52weekend. It was a most of the time is
- 37:55items that you don't have, but this time I'm going to ask you
- 37:58to do it in Houston, where it be at a location and you can stuff
- 38:02this bag. I mean, you just stuff it out.
- 38:04It'll probably like 20 to 30 gallons, just stuff the bag and
- 38:07whatever you get in there is yours and then we're going to
- 38:10ask you to have a food truck style.
- 38:11They provide food and small balls because it's hot snow
- 38:15cones are probably call it and just a way of giving back to
- 38:18show appreciation because it is the customers who make Who keep
- 38:23us rolling and keep us in business.
- 38:26So it's just different things like that.
- 38:28That I like to give back whether it's online or ask you in
- 38:32person. What is it like getting ready
- 38:34for something like that? Because that's a lot of
- 38:37inventory and that's a lot of planning.
- 38:39So we've already started getting ready for it.
- 38:41I've already told them and they even thought I was crazy.
- 38:44I was like I want all this cuz I don't want it done at my
- 38:46warehouse. I was like, we're going to find
- 38:48a location. We Takin all this inventory.
- 38:50So everybody was like, okay, this will be doing It's a lot of
- 38:54anxiety because you get to see people.
- 38:57And a lot of times when you see people because of what I went
- 39:01through, they just want to give a big hole testimony or they
- 39:04full life. But I'm going through XYZ right
- 39:07now and you be trying to talk to everybody and it's like, you
- 39:11know, you end up crying the you end up laughing and it's just
- 39:14like, oh my God. So it's all of those emotions
- 39:18that I be like and then I go to, right?
- 39:20And chest, I go to doing this. I don't go to trying to help
- 39:22somebody. You're trying to figure, so I
- 39:24was trying to put somebody together to help.
- 39:26And so it's just those moments that every time I'm surrounded
- 39:30in those type of situations, that always shows me who to
- 39:33bless nice and you're right. It's hard to know on your own
- 39:38sometimes is especially if you are a giver because the Instinct
- 39:41will be just give everybody. There's a thousand people out
- 39:45there which and give everybody right.
- 39:48You know what I mean? And I think when you do stop and
- 39:52listen, Listen with intention that.
- 39:55Is that message? Yeah you know and then it makes
- 39:58it easier for you to say. Nope that's the one because I
- 40:02think people touch you in different ways.
- 40:04Yeah. You know what I mean and when
- 40:05you feel that then you're able to pay it forward to those
- 40:10people and it's interesting, do you ever get to follow up with
- 40:14any of those people that you've helped?
- 40:16Okay. Also, she media different things
- 40:18like that. We had went to a restaurant last
- 40:21year, November December. And it was a little guys, and
- 40:24they had a podcast and what touched me was, they were like
- 40:27under 16, and they hit the door and they're trying to sell their
- 40:30t-shirts, and it was called desires energy.
- 40:32And I was just like I was stuck on the energy part because they
- 40:35gave like energy out this world and they were really trying to
- 40:39serve t-shirts that they had printed themselves.
- 40:42They have sweatshirts to have sweatpants.
- 40:44And so I bought some for like the entire family and I was
- 40:48like, what the ship ran me and I mean, he sold it.
- 40:51And it was, you know, And guide meaning behind it, but it was
- 40:55all about your energy, like Pinot, just a smile and be
- 40:58happy, no matter what you're going through, and just always
- 41:02give that energy in. So, at that moment I was like,
- 41:05so $500 it to them in my husband's used to it now and so
- 41:11I just did it and they were like freaking out like, oh my God, oh
- 41:15my God, oh my God, oh my God. And so you know, sometimes when
- 41:18you do that for people to be like you'll seem like I'm gonna
- 41:21pack up and I'm gone, they still We'll stay there and went to the
- 41:24next customer. Just still working hard and
- 41:27trying to sell their brand and different things like that.
- 41:30So it's things that I can't really say that.
- 41:33I have blessed somebody and they haven't done something with the
- 41:37blessing. Well I think that's always the
- 41:41important thing. Once again it's you're taking
- 41:43that time to listen to their message and it's one of those
- 41:48things though sometimes they probably even have that
- 41:51intimidation approaching people. We're getting ready to go into
- 41:55marketing soon. You notice that?
- 41:58That was not a very enthusiastic.
- 41:59Yeah. But it's one of those things.
- 42:03You don't keep said that, you know, one of the things you do
- 42:05is you really look at what's trending, all of those things,
- 42:08what's viral and all that. And, you know, everybody tells
- 42:11us, you know, we have a podcast, you have to have merchandise or
- 42:14they're like, okay and it is. But there's a little bit of
- 42:18anxiety and intimidation about that.
- 42:20You know what I mean? Hmm.
- 42:22Uh-huh. And so when that happens, I
- 42:25wonder to what you kind of I guess what you do is you just
- 42:30Mentor people, you know, somebody comes to and they're
- 42:33like, you know, yeah I want to sell this antique.
- 42:35Then what I think is interesting is sometimes.
- 42:38Do you ever feel like some of those people who didn't support
- 42:41you the way they were? Do you feel like they were doing
- 42:43more of a competition thing almost?
- 42:45Whereas in your case, your there about empowering other people to
- 42:50have their own business, because you're not sitting there
- 42:51thinking, man, I got to call my business.
- 42:53Way, right? So that's that's something that
- 42:57I went through. Because everybody who had more
- 42:59followers than me who were? Well established.
- 43:02I was like, I kind of piggy, like, I need some help, but
- 43:07nobody wanted to help me. But now, once I started getting
- 43:11on the news and I started being around celebrities and I started
- 43:14hanging out with certain people. Now, those people who have
- 43:18passed up, it's like naughty want to be a part in this light,
- 43:22but I couldn't come to You and I don't act ugly, but I'm not
- 43:26crazy. And I'm not stupid.
- 43:28So, I'm gonna treat you with kindness, but at the same time,
- 43:30I'm not going to treat you how you treated me.
- 43:32But at the same time, I won't be a fool.
- 43:35Well, I think it's that thing gets when we talk about that a
- 43:37lot of how do you set up those healthy boundaries with people
- 43:40and how do you sometimes because you do have to say that's a big
- 43:43fat now, and you can tell, you could tell when people just want
- 43:46to be around you now because oh you popular.
- 43:49Oh, let me see what I can get out this person.
- 43:52So that's different things. That kind of discerning go
- 43:55through with watching people because it's like, I don't take
- 43:59for granted how God has blessed me and I'm not the type of
- 44:04person that's why. Oh, I'm doing better than this
- 44:05person. I don't, I don't.
- 44:07Because one thing I know you could be here today and he will
- 44:10bring you all the way down. And so I was taught that you
- 44:13never despise Small Beginnings. But at the same time you never
- 44:17think that you're better than anybody.
- 44:19But and I think that's part of the things that they would treat
- 44:22me like a she invited you. No, she just starting.
- 44:25They looked at it as I'm not going to help her because this
- 44:27competition, where is me? I don't care.
- 44:29I'm a help you because I could tell you everything I do but if
- 44:35you don't put it into action and if you don't have the heart and
- 44:39if you don't have faith, that is going to work.
- 44:42It won't work so I can give you the sauce all day long.
- 44:44Even my mentorship people is like you're giving too much.
- 44:47No, I'm not, but it you can see who was there to really do it in
- 44:52the people. Was there just to say I was
- 44:55around her for a day or two. Exactly.
- 44:58So, as we're getting ready to wind up, do a little plug for
- 45:01yourself your Instagram and where they people can find you.
- 45:06So my name is Mark, the bury? My Instagram is a reboot.
- 45:09See that's, I am a re Bo UT i q UE.
- 45:14My website is shop. I'm a reboot e.com.
- 45:17We have new arrivals every Friday at 10:00 a.m.
- 45:20Central and my Facebook is Marie Boutique and my tip top.
- 45:25It's a very Boutique also. So any of you out there who are
- 45:29looking for some really cool ideas for your next outing,
- 45:34whatever it is because you fell about what I would like to talk
- 45:37about too is that I have an e-book which actually tell it's
- 45:41a mentorship in the book and so I always get the program where
- 45:46they will come to Houston like out.
- 45:47The first year, I had a hundred and something when we came to
- 45:50Houston in 2021 and then Should we had like 1780s coming to
- 45:55Houston? So we have like a two to three
- 45:57day event? Why did the whole mentorship but
- 45:59this year I wanted to do something different because I
- 46:02realize that you come and you be an oval.
- 46:06Oh, it's like overdrive. Like you have all this you
- 46:08overloaded with all this information but we have them on
- 46:11what we party we have when we cry and I feel like as much as I
- 46:14tell you take notes you didn't go take notes so I wanted to
- 46:18have something with it, can go back to bigger download and go
- 46:21back to it and just keep downloading it to themselves.
- 46:23Sales versus trying to take it all in and make this person.
- 46:28Oh she had an accountant hero. She had a marketing person
- 46:30because I provide everybody there at the event and so my
- 46:35ebook is something that I dropped on me first versus
- 46:37having the in-person mentorship this year.
- 46:40So that's something else that's doing well.
- 46:43And so the e-book that can find on my website shop, I'm a reboot
- 46:47e.com. What a wonderful idea.
- 46:50That's really fun. Love that.
- 46:51You know, you've done what you've done.
- 46:53With the company, but that you go beyond that by really
- 46:56promoting other people and get way.
- 46:58That's one of the things that we really focus on to you.
- 47:01So well, cool. Thank you so much for joining
- 47:04us, you know what, a great opportunity being out in the
- 47:08pool, enjoying the sun, maybe a little tequila, but we got this
- 47:14opportunity to reach and we always say, you know, you when
- 47:16here, you never know who you're going to meet, until you meet up
- 47:18and you start talking and we promote everybody's story.
- 47:23Is that there's a story behind everything and when we stopped
- 47:27to listen to the stories, they're so empowering and it
- 47:29gives people the idea that maybe just maybe that can be me.
- 47:34And so we appreciate you coming, thank you for listening, as
- 47:37always, very grateful for it and we will be back next week.
- 47:42Bye. Is that there's a story behind
- 47:25everything and when we stopped to listen to the stories,
- 47:28they're so empowering and it gives people the idea that maybe
- 47:32just maybe that can be me. And so we appreciate you coming,
- 47:36thank you for listening, as always, very grateful for it and
- 47:40we will be back next week. Bye.
