- speaker-0: Let's go. We are here. We are live. And you guys have officially entered the O Zone. It is your boy Omar here with the best co-host of the business, super producer. Dave, brother. Before I even ask you, how's your week been going? Let me just stress this out first. It is gonna be A wild show. A wild show. First of all, New York, the city of champions, Title Town USA, as more trophies have entered the city because our girls, the New York Liberty, win the commissioners cup, giving a Becky Hammond, another L, another New York guard. First JL Preston, and then Sabrina Onescu dropping buckets. Brianna Stewart kicking ass. Shoutouts to our girls as they won the Commissioner Cup. They're gonna run the table just like we did. They won an WNBA title. But brother, crazy, crazy free agent news. Mitchell Robinson went to the ops, everything, and then a big trade just happened about a before we going live. But brother, it's a new week. How we feeling? speaker-1: I mean, I'm still feeling great. My championship ⁓ championship shirt came, my gear came. I'm feeling great. ⁓ it's it's you know, orange and blue skies have never gone away since that day, that Saturday. ⁓ honestly, I'm feeling good. But ⁓ I want to give a disclaimer to our audience today. NBA free agency has been wild, like Omar just mentioned. We just got news an hour ago that Jalen Brown was traded. It's it's it's constantly happening. And the second we walk away, Omar, you can attest to this in just a sec. The news has been flying. So if at any point we see something that happens while we're literally talking about something else, we'll put a pin on that and just discuss the trade that might have have happened or the signing because who knows, LeBron probably gets signed while we're on live. So just giving you guys a display. speaker-0: You can't read that out. Like anything could happen. The Knicks can, you know, obviously we need a backup center. But let's get into it, y'all. Let's get into the biggest story right now in New York. Obviously, is Mitchell Robinson signing a three year deal with the Boston Celtics. Obviously, look, man, this this this hurt. Mitchell Robinson, this this hurt. ⁓ to be exact, let's see the what he signed. ⁓ Mitchell Robinson signed the three year 47. Was it 47 million? speaker-1: We could confirm the numbers in just a sec. Yeah. speaker-0: But Mitchell Robinson signs a three year deal. Alright, so Mitchell Robinson signs a three year for $47 million deal with the Boston Celtics. ⁓ Obviously, let's like my first reaction is ⁓ he went to the ops. He went to the ops. I don't think I'm I'm surprised that Mitch left considering look, man, we talked about it last week, brother. speaker-1: Yeah, you're right. What for seven? speaker-0: James Dolan was very adamant and very clear that the Knicks, he was not comfortable going into the second apron paying that tax. He made that abundantly clear. I thought there was a bit of hope where you saw centers being signed and going to teams that needed centers that was linked to Mitchell Robinson. You saw the Lakers with Walker Kessler. You saw ⁓ you know, teams would just get in their guys, right? Land ⁓ Landell stood with Atlanta. Collins went to the Bulls, Bo Wagner went to Brooklyn. So you saw teams that would link to Mitch initially getting their centers. ⁓ but this one hurts because he went to the Boston Celtics. ⁓ you went to the Ops, man. Mitchell Robinson, eight years, the longest tenure Nick, ⁓ big role on this championship team. I thought the Knicks found the perfect blend of how to treat him over the season where he didn't play back to back. So he he was relatively healthy and fresh for the playoffs, brother. ⁓ but this one hurts. You know, ⁓ you have some fans that want to blame James Dolan not going over the apron. ⁓ you got some fans that's coming at Mitch. ⁓ you got some that's in the middle. I think I'm more towards the middle. I don't blame Jim Dolan. I'm not gonna be one. That's gonna call Dolan cheap. I'm just not because his track record has proven James Dolan has not been a cheap owner. He's been a lot of other things, but a cheap owner, not one. But I'm also with the dang man. Like I'm also with some people who thought, all right, let's get over that second April. Let's run it back with this team. At least a year. Other teams have done it. Other teams have done it. Boston's done it. And let's see. And if not, then we work out whatever we got to work out. But losing Mitch is big, man. We cannot rule out what Mitch has done for this team. His ability to defend, his ability to defend the rim, his ability to close out on wings. Obviously, everybody knows that play last year against the Celtics brother. Where he's he's he's causing a ruckus in the basket. Then he closes out on Jalen Brown to cause the turnover at the three-point line. We know what Mitchell Robinson is. But Three years for 47 now is starters starters money. He wanted starters money. He's not gonna start on this team. Mitchell Robinson is not even gonna average 25 minutes on this team. So if you when you look at that, you go, man, are we really gonna give Mitchell Robinson three for 47? And one last thing, brother. Boston, you're gonna start Mitchell Robinson? Are you like you give him that money? I'm assuming you're going in with the indication that he's going to start and you want him to play more than 50-something games than he played for us because you're not going to be paying a center three for 47 to be a bench guy and to be playing part-time. speaker-1: I mean, if you're the Celtics, you have to look at it with that approach. Like, what do you want out of this guy? Because you're you have to not be blind. Yes, he's a he's now a champion, but and you know what he can do defensively. He's not an offensive person. You're never gonna rely on him for his offense while he can put up at least give you like 10. ⁓ the fact is that Robinson's always been known for his defense and what he can do in the perimeter ⁓ when he has to go out there, but as well as you know, you're not getting into the paint easily when Mitch Robinson is there. When you're the Celtics, you have to consider do we get him some backup? Because the fact of the matter is, he's not giving you more than 35 minutes a game. You already said the numbers. You said 25 was what he wasn't gonna get with us. So I can imagine that Boston probably wants more from because they don't have a center. They don't that that was, I think, the biggest hole that I think we addressed many times about the Boston Celtics. Yeah. And while this could be an in-answer, it is not the answer considering other moves that Boston made as well. ⁓ I don't know, man. Like this, this. For the Knicks, this is this is upsetting, especially considering that we also have the news that we lost Ariel Huk Porti. So you lost two centers now. And that was two things ⁓ concerning us, you know, with ⁓ you at least okay, fine. You know, if if the news had come out differently, let's say if Mitch had signed first, and you're like, all we have Hackporty, but now we don't have that either. ⁓ so it kind of upset it's it's upsetting knowing that we have to address it. ⁓ I'm not looking forward to sw ⁓ switch defense being ha played for us. I I think. The Knicks have a a big glaring hole, and Mew and I were literally talking about it before the show started, brother. The center, the landscape for centers in the free agency market is bare. And it it's gonna have to require, I think, a trade to bring anybody of relevancy. ⁓ or just building a guy up because it's just it's not it's slim pickings out there. speaker-0: Yeah, ⁓ before yeah, before we get into the sentence that's available, it's not it's not many like as he touched on. ⁓ I'm gonna ask you a question, brother. Mitchell Robertson now. He's with the ops. He's with the ops. You know, we got the moniker. Once a nick, always a nick. Is he getting booed his first game in Madison Square Garden? back wearing that Celtic green uniform. speaker-1: Wanna say no, but New York fans are petty. I wouldn't boo him because at the end of the day he was he's getting his bag. Like he got his chip, he's got his bag, and he got money that we weren't gonna give him. Like I get it, coming home for the hometown discount. You've played here eight years, you you want to chip with us, you're the longest, you were the longest tenured ⁓ Nick. But man, he went to get a bag that he wasn't gonna get from us. speaker-0: Alright, so would you boo him? speaker-1: It it was clear as day that we weren't gonna offer that. So I'm not I'm not mad at it and I'm not gonna boo him for that. Well I still I will still say F you 'cause after that, after that what ceremony is done, absolutely. But I'm not gonna boo. speaker-0: ⁓ You weren't softy green, brother. There's no city I hate worse than Boston. And as I've always touched on, I appreciate the services, but I root for the front. I don't get that nostalgic on players ⁓ as some do. And I appreciate what Mitch has done. I love Mitchell Robinson, but at the end of the day, I'm booing your ass. It's that simple. I respect that you got the bag. I really do. I and I'm I agree with you 100%, brother, when it comes to that. You got to get your coins. But god damn it, they were other teams you could have got your coins with. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You went to the ops, dog. You did the no-no. Like, obviously, before the Jalen Brown trade was announced, you went to a team that is literally trying to beat us. You went to a team where you go, you know what? Let me take what I what I do well for the Knicks. And let me start doing it for this team so I can help beat my old team. And I do think, because if you guys have followed Mitchell Robinson throughout his career, Mitchell Robinson does seem to be a petty kind of guy. He likes to throw away this and that. I'm pretty sure that also weighed into his decision. That you know what? ⁓ okay. You guys don't want to go over the second apron. Then you know what? I'm gonna go to the Boston Celtics. Cause he knew the Nets would be the complete opposite. speaker-1: That's like if you were dating a girl and she went with the guy that you didn't like. It's exactly like yeah. speaker-0: Exactly what it was. So I think I personally think he won't get booed. I think people will try to boo him, but the Knicks are going to put like the you know, the montage, the whole video package, and then people are gonna be like, you know what? Nah, man, he was our guy. But I'm gonna be honest, he's gonna be wearing Celtic green, and I don't stand and I don't cheer for anybody. Wearing Celtic Green. I don't give a damn if you're Patrick Ewan, Carmelo Anthony, or even Jalen Brunson knock on water hoping. Never happens. I am never cheering for anyone wearing Celtic Green. I don't care what kind of history you got with the New York Knicks. So ⁓ we got some comments, bro. Let's get to the comments real quick. Let's do it. ⁓ we got some comments right now. Let's go, let's go. Let's go. ⁓ do you think he can scale up to play starters minutes? I tell you this. ⁓ they're gonna try. They're gonna try. ⁓ you know, his conditioning, let's see if his conditioning will hold up. I I truly think Boston brought him in to start. I I think that was also a big thing for Mitch is wanting to start. I think they will try to ⁓ upscale his minutes and see. ⁓ I also think the Celtics will kind of incorporate the Knicks formula with him and not have him play back to back because it worked. He was healthy in the postseason outside of obviously the the punching the wall and having the broken pinky, which I really now think, brother, we're gonna get the truth. I really think now leak that out to be petty is to pet be petty I was first to be petty. ⁓ so for sure. ⁓ what do you think of that one real fast, brother? speaker-1: You know how it happened. I think, yeah, like I agree with you. They're gonna try to scale him up, but I think they're gonna learn quick, like that. That's not something they can do sustainably. ⁓ we did a lot of load management for Mitch this season, ⁓ with with helping us get to the postseason, which I think was the real goal for the Knicks, ⁓ with Mitch Robinson coming back. So I don't know if that's the game plan that they want from him. I mean, you invested three years, 47 million in a guy to to to to load management him. I don't think that's what your plan was. Maybe you maybe you adjust. But they're definitely gonna start off ⁓ pretty heavy with him, I think. speaker-0: That's gonna be interesting. All right. ⁓ half of me says get your money. But man, I would say on the championship team for less money, work on my free throws and run it again for another ring. Look, speaker-1: think that's what a lot of Nick Nation was thinking. speaker-0: I think a lot of us want that, but then it it it will be contradictive of what I always say. And I always say, yo, once you get your ring, get the bag. Right? I always say that, like, yo, get the bag. You've already won. But I agree a thousand percent with you. I like you would think that ⁓ because you've won, you're like, yo, let's let's let's win it, let's run it back. But clearly, man, the the the money was enough. He's looking at it like, okay, I would assume I have an opportunity to win here in Boston. ⁓ and ⁓ and I'm I'm getting my my I'm having my cake and eat it too. ⁓ that's the only thing, but I agree with you. You would think and a lot of us thought maybe you know Mitch will take he would have took a big pay cut, ⁓ but we thought maybe he could have rented back. Yes, bye, Mitch. No one likes you anymore. Or or your truck. ⁓ Yeah, he's getting all the tickets. Somebody say, yo, that's it. speaker-1: Doesn't even go here. speaker-0: No more free meals for him is a wrap. Nobody, you know, like nah. We take it all out away. ⁓ I think he gets cheered getting his ring and then they'll boo him every time he gets the ball. I swear I think that I think that might happen. I think that more of that might happen. Cheer his ring reception, but boo during the game. Yes, I can definitely see that. He should have went to Dallas. We won't see him and Lex less taxes. I don't think they needed a center though. I don't think they I don't think they were in the market for a center. speaker-1: He could have gone to the Rockets. speaker-0: It's yeah, maybe, but I don't think they needed a sender. They have Alpha Shangoon. ⁓ if you're not with us, it's over for you. That's right, Ma. That's why that's how I carry that energy when it comes to players. ⁓ you always wanna you always wanna keep your guy, but if he gets offered better money, why not? Nah, it's the truth, man. It's the truth. I guess it's the truth. ⁓ like O says, once a nick, always a nick, but I guess in this case he's the ops. That's where it don't apply. Once a nick always a nick. Mitchell Roberts is getting that. Once he retires again, you walk him back in the garden. But right now, I ain't trying to hear that shit. There's no once a nick always a nick right now. You are a Boston Celtic. You are wearing the same jersey as punk ass Paul Pierce, punk ass Kevin Garnet, and all them dudes that that I I despise, didn't like. You're officially wearing the same uniform as them. Don't want to hear it. You get your car back once you retire. ⁓ but he ain't always good. Wait, wait, all right, hold on. But he ain't always got to a bum team. It's not like he's as Charlotte. He's on a team that continues to contend while getting paid. Exactly. He's having his cake and eat it too. But I think Nick fans, Nick fans won the care. If yes, Nick fans would have been hurt. He left. Nick fans are hurt. He left. I obviously where he went to is where the sour grapes come in. speaker-1: Yeah. I think even if you went to Philly. I think even if he went to Philly, we wouldn't feel this way. speaker-0: Thought the same thing. I'm like, even if he would have gone to Philly, I don't think Knic fans would have been that upset. You went to the Celtics. ⁓ he he will be back. ⁓ he will be a backup. Cato will start again. ⁓ then why give him that money? I think I think that's probably what's gonna end up happening, but why give him all that money? ⁓ once you leave the garden walls, you're dead to us. Hey, that's fair. That is fair. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: ⁓ he will not start. He's getting Al Horfer money twenty minutes twenty minutes a game. You know what's the crazy part though? Al Horfer stretched the floor and hit threes. ⁓ look, look, I I I I agree with you, ⁓ Robert. ⁓ I think ⁓ I do think though they might run him as center in the beginning. That's my opinion. I think they might run him as center in the beginning, and then when they realize it's not panning out, then they run back with KD up. But ⁓ man. ⁓ so Mitchell Robinson is is a Boston Celtic, man. This this it hurts a little bit. I'm not gonna front. I I I've been had mixed emotions about it pretty much, brother, the whole day. Like I was I was upset. And like, and I'm not upset to the point where I think the Celtics, he made the Celtics better than us. And I'm talking right now, guys, ⁓ pre ⁓ Jaden Brown trade. Because we're gonna get to that. We're gonna get to the Jaden Brown trade. ⁓ I didn't think he he made them a bigger threat to us, but it's like, damn man, like of all the teams. I was kinda hoping he went to the Lakers. You know what I mean? Where something was like, okay, not gonna impact us. You know what, Mitch, you got your bag. Go play with Luca. Do your thing out west. And if we see you in the finals, that'll be cool. But now we gotta see you four times a year. ⁓ and he's with the Celtics, man. Like speaker-1: Four times a year and possibly in the playoffs too. speaker-0: Yeah, you know, like, and I and I know there's a lot of people that now, like, you know, he's not with us. You want to take away, well, you know, he didn't shoot free throws well. This and this, you're right. But we cannot, as you touched on, brother, we cannot just ignore the offensive rebounding this man. Like, he was a menace. This guy was dominant, Mitchell Robinson. I I I I truly think he was the best rebounder in the league, best offensive rebounder in the league. His ability even went now with the bad knees and the With the ankles, he still had the ability to to to get dirty and muscle and bang with Joel Embiid and the Victor Women Yamas, but also close out on a Jalen Brown three, close out on a Jason Tatum three. He was part of that Jason Tatum turnover that had us go up 2 0 last year, where he basically forced Tatum to go to his left, where he would have been eventually trapped by OG and McHel. This is the intangibles that you don't see on the stat sheet when it comes to Mitchell Robinson. And you gotta replace that. And brother, look, you got the list up. We're gonna talk about the available centers right now. And as you said, it is very, very weak. Because right now, the top two centers that are linked to the Knicks, I would say top three centers that are linked to the Knicks. You're hearing Kavon Looney, obviously, 11-year pro. Known for his days in Golden State. You got Nick Richards, who's been tied with the Knicks for a few years, even dating back from when he was in Charlotte. He was tied to the Knicks, so I I think that's a that's a real possibility. And then you have Andre Drummond, where Drummond pretty much went on today on his Instagram or YouTube, not sure wait, but it was on social media, that he is not playing for anything less than his worth. He said he took. A minimum contract a few years ago to help out his team. But now that's the stigma on him that he's a veteran minimum guy. I think he wants a little bit more. I'll be honest, he will be playing overseas if he doesn't change his thinking. Because I don't think there's gonna be any team that's gonna offer him anything outside of the veteran minimum. But those are the most three realistic centers you're looking at as a possible Mitch replacement, brother. speaker-1: Yeah. And I mean, you look at the rest of them, you see Dwight Powell, Kevin Love, Bizmack Miyambo. Like, guys, it's getting worse. Is it this is like you ever play two K and you like do a fantasy draft and you end up with no centers, and this is who you're looking at at the end. You got nobody available. Drew Eubanks, Xavier Tillman, Quentin Pose, like stop me when you hear somebody that actually sounds good. Oliver Saar. Like at this point, it's it's kind of the thing that you consider all right, all right. Do you not have a center? Do you try to fill it up with power forwards? You look at ⁓ other people available. You got Kaminga, Hachamura, Olinik. maybe that can be your your game plan where you fill it up with power forwards. This is a league that sometimes we'll be fine with not running a center on the court if if Kat is city. We I ⁓ if it's Kat used to play the power forward position. They just made him a center on the Knicks. ⁓ and I think he he transitioned also when I believe this guy, what's his name on the Timberwolves? ⁓ speaker-0: Well they moved cat they moved cat cat played a lot center and then they moved cat to f power forward when they got Gobert. speaker-1: So yeah, so but he plays more like a power forward than I think he does to play as a center. So maybe you fill up the gap that way, but it's it's bleak. So the other thing that is like, do you trade for a center? But who wants to give away their centers at this point? I don't know. speaker-0: ⁓ yeah, ⁓ Chris said I I see I say bring back pressures. Unfortunately, brother, we can't. He re-signed with the Sacramento Kings. ⁓ in Moneyball speak, you can't replace him, gonna need different game plan. 100%. I and that's why I think ⁓ yeah, you're right. You're absolutely right. Bottom of the barrel. I agree. ⁓ Draymond, Draymond, ⁓ Drummond ain't the drumming from Detroit. Yeah, this actually, this drumming hits corner threes. ⁓ but centers are lost art. Yeah, look, at the end of the day, ⁓ there's not a lot of teams with centers that gonna like play with their back to the basket. A lot of centers now you see are very much like Carl Anthony Towns, stretch bigs, and that sort of thing. ⁓ but you need it, you're also gonna need a guy that could get physical. ⁓ this is why I kind of I wouldn't mind Kavan Looney, Nick Richards. When you talk about trades, I think. The biggest one is ⁓ you know, do the do the Knicks try to trade for ⁓ what's the kid's name, Diabatu from from Charlotte. You know, you're hearing that. And ⁓ you know, you're gonna have to trade, you're gonna have to trade ⁓ let me see. Let me ⁓ centers. Let me hold on, y'all. ⁓ What's his name? Where am I? Come on, come on. Yeah, Musa Diabate. ⁓ you know, he's physical 6'10, big center that ⁓ can play, but now you're talking about possibly trading a Deuce McBride, trading, maybe adding up a comb Daddy to get him right now. He signed a three year five ⁓ five million dollar deal ⁓ last year. He will earn a base salary of 2.4. So you probably could get it done. You probably could get it done with trading Deuce. ⁓ I think that might be a route where you can. I don't I think that I it it would suck to lose Deuce McBride, but that's not a trade that I'm like, okay, don't do it. I'm I'm I would be okay with trading Deuce McBride ⁓ for Diobate. And now and then Nada gives obviously Kohlik a bigger role and Diabate is definitely fills that whole ⁓ pause that ⁓ Mitch is leaving. speaker-1: The other thing that we have to consider is maybe a team is willing to sell during the season. Maybe they see something's not working out and you don't have the answer as soon as the season starts. So don't don't be surprised if during the season this is the move that we end up seeing happening. Maybe somebody becomes available and it doesn't work for their game plan. So we can hold out possibility for that as well. speaker-0: That might be another option. Yeah, that might be an option, brother. That the Knicks might go, let's say a lesser, like get a Caval Nooney and see if they could get or Nick Richards and then go, okay, let's ride this out to the trade deadline. And if this becomes a glaring hole where we really need a backup center, then you can maybe go and and trade a deuce and or trade someone where you can go and flip and get a maybe a better backup center. Now I I and I think that's more of that route. Leon might go with, but what I'll say is this, Nick Finn, for those that are questioning or whatever, Leon Rose has earned our trust. And if he doesn't have your trust in you and Nick Finn, what I don't know what else this man needs to do. We are champions. Yes. Has he swung and missed at some moves? Yes. But he's hit on most of them. And now he is a championship president. He he's brought us a title building this team from scratch. We should be able to trust Leon that he's got something cooking. Because I just don't think Leon is working clueless where you let Huck Porti go knowing you weren't going to be able to bring back Mitch. So I truly think Leon has something up his sleeve. He always does. Leon works in silence. We all know that. So I think I think Leon has has deserved a little bit of patience and trust ⁓ from the Nick fan base. speaker-1: Emo's like Oil G. speaker-0: Uh-huh. Yep. ⁓ best bet is developing a center from the G League and hope for the best. Like, hey, that might be an option. That might fall in line with what Dave is saying. You get a a veteran center and you bring in a third string center, kinda like what the Knicks have with Hook Party, and see what you have. He's done a hell of a job the ⁓ the last four years, a hundred percent. speaker-1: Agreed. Look at Yabu Seli. Yabu Seli was one of those guys that we signed and we were like, what is what is our potential for him? Didn't work out and we moved him and look what we ended up getting from it. So yeah, trades can be happened ⁓ during the season. speaker-0: Yeah, and Leon we trust. ⁓ but guys, let's pivot real quickly, because before we went off last week, we also got good news where some of our Knicks are staying. ⁓ we got the news that Jose Alvarado ⁓ remember he had pushed back his decision to to make ⁓ to make on his option, he ended up opting out and then re signing ⁓ for three years fourteen point six million. So that's actually gonna be a little less than what his option would have been for. ⁓ so shout out to Jose Alvarado and then Landry Shaman. Landry Shaman coming back. Obviously, you heard the you heard the news, the rumors that he was offered a lot more money in different places, but he decided just to run it back. ⁓ signing four years 24, and you see some of the money that some of these guards are getting, like Keon Ellis, ⁓ what's the kid? The redhead hoarder from Detroit, what they got, and you're like, what? These dudes are making this 2012, 13, 15 million. And we got Shamut for six? Bro, winner, clutch three point shooter, plays good defense. Shout out to Landry Shamit. And obviously we can't we can't forget to mention that we were able to re sign Modi Aurora for four for ten. ⁓ so the Knicks are gonna be running it back relatively. ⁓ you know, just without Mitch and Hug Porti. ⁓ but ⁓ Katacena and San Braun. Let's see. LeBron thing. You know what? That's a perfect segue. Cause let's talk about now the rest of the NBA free agency, brother. And John Morant. Let's let you what do you want to let's start off with the biggest trade today. Let's just start off with the biggest trade today. ⁓ and then we'll meet we'll we'll work our way down. ⁓ guys, this has a lot to do with the Knicks. This is why we are mentioning this in the Knicks segment. ⁓ because as we said, the Knicks are the Knicks are the champs. And right now. Who would have thought the Knicks would be shaking up teams this way? Because right now we saw that the big trade ⁓ between the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers as the Sixers traded Paul George, two first round picks, two second round picks to the 76ers to the Celtics for Jalen Brown. This, if the Luca trade did not exist, this would have been the worst trade in NBA history right now. Because what you don't do in every sport, you don't trade arguably your best player, or if you want to say your second best player, you don't trade them within your conference. You don't do it. You damn near don't trade them in your own division. And that's what the Celtics did. So for the Celtics that got cool brownie points, and there were some Celtics fans that didn't like the Mitchell Robinson signing. But for some of the Celtics fans that were a little happy that they got Mitchell Robinson, you cannot be happy about this deal. Because, brother, not only did the Sixers get the best player in this deal. They got you to take Paul George's contract. And they gave you two first round picks that weren't the ones that they owned from the Clippers. And they were able to make this deal without trading Maxwell VJ Edgecomb. So you basically, Boston, you gave the freaking, you gave the Sixers a player, an all-star finals MVP, a top five MVP caliber player. For poor George, who is cooked. Nick fans, we know he's cooked. We've seen it in the second round. He's cooked. He's fried. Whatever you want to call it. The guy's washed. And then you don't get their young players. Or you don't give them, you don't take, you don't hold their their future hostage. You don't, you don't, you know what mean? You don't give them the division tax like Brooklyn. All right, Brooklyn trading Mikhail. Why? What do we get? We got that New York tax. ⁓ if we're gonna trade him the yard, we're gonna want a little bit more than what we would be offered from any other team because we're trading him to the division to the same city. You gotta pay a different, it's a different level of tax you gotta pay. That's just the unwritten rule. You don't even do that shit with the with the Sixers. And don't don't don't I'm gonna let you go in a minute, brother. Don't give me shit about those picks. Tyrese Maxie, DJ Edge Comb, and Jalen Brown, at worst, brother. At worst. It's a playoff team. Not a play-in team. A playoff team. Those picks ain't gonna mean hogwash. What's your thoughts, brother, on this trade? speaker-1: Brother, this is a Jalen Brown who led the Celtics to second in the division this year with no Jason Tatum. This is a Jalen Brown who's now going to be playing with two other guys who are young and hungry. And you still have Embiid who, as much as we like to make fun of him, he can make an impact when he's on the court. Not often, but when he's there, he can't impact the court. You literally made the and I texted Omar when I saw this. Like, you made the the 76es better. Why would you do that? It it it baffles me and look, people may be like, ⁓ well, their money was tied up with Paul George, right? And you you mentioned it that the contract is now freed. It's not because Jalen Brown makes more money than Paul George for a year. The problem is that Paul George does not deserve fifty-four million dollars a year. Right. That is the problem. So if the Celtics were already struggling with money. speaker-0: So speaker-1: Because that's the reason why they didn't get to keep Porzingis and Al Hofford and all these other guys. If you already were struggling there, you took on another contract. A dead contract. On a thirty six seven if I'm not mistaken, thirty six year old Paul George. Yep, yep. There we go. Like it it doesn't make sense to me at all. And I absolutely believe the seventy six is at least a top five team in the East next year. Are they speaker-0: Are are they the you know what? No, I'm gonna ask you, I'm gonna ask you this question later because when we get to the kawai thing. We're gonna get to the koart thing. I'm gonna ask that later. ⁓ you you hit the nail on his head, brother. Like poor George is 36 years old. This is not the same poor George. And it it everything last year told you everything you need to know with poor George. Because what happened? He got suspended for using PDs. So he missed a boatload of games. speaker-1: He looked fresh in the playoffs. speaker-0: Right, he came into the playoffs fresh, had a good series against Boston. Faded. Faded in the series against the Knicks. Why would you think now a year later he ain't gonna do the same? Makes no sense. The Joel Embiid thing, brother, I'm gonna be honest. And I have wrote this in my work chat ⁓ because we got a Philly fan in there, my boy Pierre. I'll be honest, you ain't even gotta play Embiid in the regular season if I'm the Sixers. I'm treating him like Mitchell Robinson. I'm like, yo, 20, 25 minutes a game. No back to backs. Just get us 40-50 games. Get you fresh by the playoffs. That's a playoff team. Jalen Brown, VJ Edgecomb, Tyrus Massey. Now I know they have a depth problem because obviously a lot is tied into that starting lineup. So they're gonna have challenges filling out the rest of that roster. And that was an issue for them ⁓ in this postseason. But man. And you added Dean Wade, solid defender, three-point shooter, shoots roughly 39 to 40% from three. It's not a bad pickup, man. It's not a bad pickup. And now I'm looking at the Celtics, and I'm going, they're not a threat to the Knicks. They're not even a threat to they're that they're not a title contender team. Now I know people could say, well, that's what they said last year about, you know, what Tatum was going to be out with these guys. But I'm looking at this lineup, and you got what? You're going to have. Peyton Pritchard, Derek White, Jason Tatum, Paul George, and Mitchell Robinson or Cater or whomever. How you gonna? I know they got a couple of them them boys in the bench. What's the what the white boy that could shoot? I forgot his name. And then they got they got not Pritchard. He's like a he's like a small forward or a guard. Shireman or whatever his name is. But this is not a team. This is not a team that that scares the Knicks, and it shouldn't. It should not scare the Knicks. ⁓ they lost Grimes as well, but Brown, Maxi, and VJ. They lost Grimes, yeah. But bro, you just gave the Sixers a arguably top ten player. He finished in the top five in MVP voting this season. Finals MVP. And you didn't give up your two young pillars of your roster. If I'm the Celtics. If Vijay Edgecomb wasn't in that deal, bro, I I don't know what the beef was between Jalen Brown. Clearly, it must have been really bad, brother, that they felt we have to make this deal now. speaker-1: And you scarred your relationship when they made it known that you were trying to trade him. Right. And and then what is it? I think speaker-0: It had to be brother cause this is a dumbass trade. speaker-1: And then something what something came out a few days ago that they said that they had to lower their asking price because they were asking for too much for Jalen Brown. So then you go and show your hand and your ass with making this trade. So I I I don't know. Look, there's there's we mentioned guys that could fill up the rosters earlier. The seventy sixers could easily pick up a Hachimura, ⁓ a Matisse. speaker-0: I don't think so. He's I don't I don't think so. He's gonna get paid too much. speaker-1: The point is that there's enough free agencies to fill up that d the bench that they need. Yeah. You gave them everything they needed on that starting lineup. That's the problem, man. speaker-0: Bro, I'll be honest. That's a lineup. The bench guys, we'll we'll fill that up. You know what I mean? Like, that's a small problem. That's kind of like with the Knicks too. Like, I love what, you know, the Mitchell Robinson thing. But I'd rather have that problem where we focus on getting a backup center than goddamn it, we need a starting center. We need a starting power for it. So yeah. Giannis Trey falling through, force their hand. Yo, the crazy part is you went from flipping, trying to flip Jalen Brown for Giannis entered the Kumpo, and now you got poor George. Bro, crazy. Now, I don't know if we have any Boston fans listening, but I'll say this. The only thing that makes this deal make some sense, I guess, brother. The only rational thing I can think of when it comes to this trade. Is maybe the Celtics are. Looking at Anthony Edwards situation and going. Okay, they traded for Lamello Ball. This is another kind of look the Timberwolves are trying to give for Ant to see where this happens. They tried the cat thing, didn't work, Randall thing, whatever. Now you got LaMelo ball. That's the only thing I can think of. Because now you've accumulated two first-round picks. You have yours. And that's the only thing I can think of. Is you're gonna have the salaries, the match. You can have a Derek Wyatt, you can have a Mitchell Robinson, you can add sort of those kind of pieces, and then now you have the draft capital. That is the Only logical, rational thing that I can come up with as to why they made this dumbass deal. Because this is a dumbass deal. ⁓ let's talk about the other another Eastern Conference team in the same division that got better, brother. And that's the Toronto Raptors. The Toronto Raptors they went out and got themselves Kawhi Leonard. Kawhi Leonard back in the six. ⁓ He was he was part of a trade that included he's going to Toronto. I'm going to share it with you guys right now. He's going, he he's gone to Toronto for Brandon Ingram, Grady Dick, two first round picks and two second round picks. Kawhi Leonard is rumored to sign an extension ⁓ with the ⁓ Raptors and ultimately finish his career. I brought up this situation, brother, because I think now. And this is no shade. I got lot. I know I got a lot of boys out of Miami Heat fans, and they're excited to have Giannis as they should. But I mentioned now the Jalen Brown in this situation with Kawhi Leonard. Because now I think that the Toronto Raptors and as of today, because we a lot of people, when we dropped the Heat video, a lot of people like, ⁓ you gotta talk, you don't even know what the roster. And we both of us said, well, we said as of today. As of like not in October when the season starts, but as of today. Yeah, clearly they don't. I think the the Raptors and the Seventy Sixers are the Knicks biggest threats in the Eastern Conference. speaker-1: Hey You know people don't listen, bro. So it with the disclaimer. speaker-0: As of today, as of this day, July 1st, not October 20 something, not ring night, night, not banner night, not even summer league. I'm talking July 1st. I think that the Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers are the biggest threats to the Knicks. And that's because I don't see Cleveland a threat. Boston's definitely not a threat. The Detroit Pistons should be very worried. Cause you lost Tobias Harris. You traded Isaiah Stewart. Jalen Duran is going to be a disgruntled center there. You didn't get any playmakers for you got John Collins, not good enough. speaker-1: Malik Beasley going to jail. speaker-0: ⁓ Malik Beasley's already in yeah, he's going, you know, the biggest threats right now to the New York Knicks, and not to say that the Knicks should be scared, but a threat right now, July first, are the Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia Seventy Sixers, brother. speaker-1: Like Beasley going to jail. Not arguing it. Yeah. speaker-0: Can't you know I I think that's it. ⁓ talk about we got other big free agents news we'll run by it really quickly. ⁓ you know you got obviously Kelly Ubre is going to the Pacers. That is a sneaky, good move. ⁓ obviously you're forgetting for getting the Pacers. The Pacers are gonna come back healthy this year. Talk about the Los Angeles Lakers, LA. I thought they brought in four good pieces. speaker-1: We got a bigger speaker-0: ⁓ Colin Sexton, Quentin Grimes. ⁓ they brought in the backup center from Toronto. Liked him. Obviously, everybody knows. Nick fans remember him when he lit us up for 35 points again when he was with the Spurs. And then they got Walker Kessler. And this is big because I thought this is a good player they got. I thought they just gave up a little too much to get him. Yeah. You know, they did. And this is the Danny Ainge effect. Danny Ainge, I think. Definitely orchestrated this. Utah had no intentions giving him that bread. None. No intentions of giving him that bread. And what they were able to do was get it out there that they were gonna match any offer. And I think that's what made LA panic a little bit more and outbid themselves. Because obviously Luca made it known that he wants more of an elite kind of center. ⁓ and they ended up, you know, trading d working out a sign and trade where they're sending ⁓ unprotected 2031 and 2033 first round pick and ⁓ first round swaps at 28 and 30. So b basically, in essence, you gave up four picks and they signed ⁓ Walker Custler to four years, ⁓ 130 million. ⁓ like we said. We both said it, brother, on our chat earlier today that Walker Kessler is a good player. Very good player, very good center. But I thought that was a lot. I thought that was a lot. ⁓ but what are they calling them now? The Snowflake Lakers? They know Brother. speaker-1: Snowtime. Well Colin Sexton helps it, right? speaker-0: Well, Carl Sexton helps it a little bit, but it's a all white team. ⁓ but I'm not gonna be the one that's ballers. They can't. They're ballers. Yeah, they're ballers, bro. ⁓ but I'm eager. I I I I did like what the Lakers did. I'm not gonna front. They're gonna lose Rui. ⁓ you're hearing that he might be linked to Detroit now, that now that Tobias Harris went to the San Antonio Spurs, which I thought was another good move for the for the Spurs. ⁓ definitely an upgrade from ⁓ Harrison Barnes as he signed a two-year, $31 million deal. ⁓ You look at Tim Hardaway Jr. He went to the Heat. Not a bad signing. They need shooters. I'll give them credit for that. ⁓ You got Marcus Smart. I thought this was a good move. Marcus Smart, two years, $13 million to the Houston Rockets. I thought they needed a guard bad in the worst ways. So they finally get him. We mentioned John Collins going to Detroit. Reeves is black and so is Luca. That is very true. They play like brothers. ⁓ speaker-1: On the big trade, well I don't know how big, but John Moran support? speaker-0: ⁓ yeah. I was gonna get to that right after the Norman Powell thing. ⁓ Norman Powell signed a two year ⁓ with the Bulls. I thought that was good. And let's talk about the John Morant trade. John Morant got traded for a bag of chips. John Morant, you talk about a team that had basically no leverage. ⁓ but I'm gonna be honest, brother. I like the move for Portland. You didn't give up much, you gave in Jeremy Grant. And Keegan Murray, who fun note, y'all, Keegan Murray has some ties to the Knicks. That ended up being the pick selection that Portland used when we traded Cam Reddish in a first-round pick to get Josh Hart. So always connected to the Knicks here in the O-zone. We are talking everything because it's always going to be connected to New York sports. ⁓ but brother, I like the John Moran deal. ⁓ I like it because now they're guard heavy. They're guard heavy. They have Drew Holiday, they Damian Lillard, they have Scoot Henderson, they have ⁓ John Morant. But you didn't have to give up much, brother. You gave up Jeremy Grant. Gets paid a lot. Hardly plays. Kegan Murray, solid player. Stretch, you know, 3nd kind of guy. But it's a low risk, high reward. I know John Morant gets paid a lot. But you I think he's gonna have something to prove this year, brother. I think he's gonna have something approved. And him with a backcourt with Dame Lillard. I don't hate it. Denny Avia. ⁓ sharp they got young ballers in in Portland. They gave San Antonio a little tough run, but they couldn't score enough. Yeah. John Morant. I know it's a tough axe, but get it together. They might not speaker-1: You s you said it best. The Grizzlies had no ⁓ leverage. They'd have said so many problems with John Morant. ⁓ and it started to feel like he didn't want to be there as well ⁓ you know later on with in his career with them. ⁓ and I think they wanted to get rid of him as well, just as much. I'm sorry, the chat is hilarious right now. speaker-0: Sharif Donchik is crazy. speaker-1: Luca Sharif, Austin Malik Reeves. Austin Malik. And then Luca isn't in the Muslim Brotherhood. I am sorry. It is hard to talk when you guys are going off in the chat like that, but I appreciate it. ⁓ look, at the end of the day, yeah, the Grizzlies, they they they gave up Desmond Bain, they gave up ⁓ Triple J, and now John Moran. That team is gonna be look completely different from what they've looked like the last couple of years. speaker-0: That's why you're ⁓ speaker-1: I don't know what their plan is. I really don't. ⁓ Gigamur is a good player. He he's kinda like their replacement for Desmond Bain, what they were missing on that part. But I don't know. ⁓ speaker-0: Yeah, ⁓ damn and they got rid of that whole core, man. And just a few years ago that was a core that you thought, you know, they beat go whether did they beat Golden State? I don't remember if they beat Golden State, but you know, that playoff run and they had Dylan Brooks, Triple J, Bain, you know, they had John Morant and you thought, okay, this core is gonna be one for the Aegis and all of them are gone. speaker-1: And this is why you can't take that whole they can be there next year or they're gonna be here for your many years. speaker-0: Right. Right. ⁓ but guys, let us know in the comments below what you think ⁓ about this NBA moves. What did you think about ⁓ Mitchell Robertson going to the Celtics, Jalen Brown now a 76er? That is crazy, man. That's crazy. That's crazy. ⁓ but guys, let's promo read it, y'all. This episode of the Ozone is brought to you by Splex1, it's a certified minority business. I want to talk about the the the baseball teams ⁓ really quickly. speaker-1: Did you try to turn it on and off? Do we have to? speaker-0: Yeah, unfortunately we do, brother. That's why I kept it. Basketball took most of the show, and we're gonna we're gonna kill the next couple five to seven minutes on this. The Mets must they must listen to us because one, they fired Carlos Mendoza. and I didn't I didn't have much on the Mets. Obviously, the Mets stink. ⁓ Freddie Peralta gave up another bazillion runs today in Toronto. ⁓ Juan Soto allowed the inside the park home run to 40 year old George Springer. ⁓ this Met team is horrible. But the Mets are is the news that i is the gift that keeps giving. We touched on it with the NBA, but Steve Cohen was on ⁓ on the I guess a podcast with Joe Sherman and that jerk, ⁓ John Heyman, the very sensitive jerk who blocked me because I had an Arson Judge joke and it wasn't even like profanity. It was nothing. It was just a Basic corny Arson Judge joke. He blocked me. ⁓ but he was on their pod. And and if you're a Met fan, you don't like what he said. He bait one brother. He basically confirmed that Juan Soto and Franco and Francisco Lodore did not like each other. They did not get along. That was rumored all last year when he came in. ⁓ he pretty much confirmed it. Because he pretty much said. This is not like last year. ⁓ you know, I'm being I'm being told that they're that they're doing better. All right, I'm you know what? Let me just shut up. Let me just shut up. And let me just play this for you. Steve Cohen. ⁓ Methans, I feel I I really do feel sorry for you guys. I really do because this is this is pathetic. This is this is this is the owner. ⁓ he's talking with Joe Sherman. And ⁓ as I touched on John Heyman, this is Steve Cole. speaker-1: Do you think your team needs to be broken up in any way? And really that becomes about Lindor Soto. Do you think they're in play ⁓ but before August third? And what do you think of their dynamic, which has been talked about quite a bit? ⁓ can a winning team ⁓ be formed with those two guys as the two key guys? speaker-0: Yeah, I don't I don't I don't see them going anywhere. Okay. And and ⁓ and frankly, I think that's that's a story that was last year's story. And that I actually am told and believe strongly that these guys are getting along much better. And and so I just don't see that as an issue anymore. And ⁓ you know, listen, I'm lucky enough to have two high quality players like that, and and you know, with the elimination of you know ⁓ whatever issues they were last year. I mean, I'm I'm thrilled that they're on the team. All right. So he like I said, he pretty much confirmed that there was smoke. And when there's smoke, there's fire. And obviously that's there. I wanna I wanna go to the comments real quickly because this is funny. I I saw this in words of Dave, did you turn it off and on? ⁓ I thought there were besties. No one thought there were besties, bro. It was rumored that ⁓ remind me of Jeter and A-Rod. And this is the comment that stuck out to me. Because Jose, yes, you are partially right, I would say. The difference is that it was abundantly clear this was Jeter's team. A-Rod knew it, Jeter knew it, management knew it, everyone knew it. I think this is why they had problems. Because Juan Soto comes in, every Met fan. We're going, hey, you know, you you know, Francisco Lindor was supposed to be the room and captain. There was no such thing. Cohen's like, there's not going to be any captains. You think Francisco Lindor is one of the faces of the thing. Juan Soto comes in, gets all this high luxury promises with his contract and this sort of stuff. And now it's who is the guy? Who is the guy on this team? Is it Juan Soto? Is it Francisco Lindor? Egos is clashing, man. And I agree with this comment, Joey. Steve don't care. His casino is approved. And the reason why I say that, because this is what he said. This is what he said about David Stearns, who people who met fans want him out. They want him out. And Joey, you're not you're not privy to how we format the show. But this was a perfect segue right now because this is exactly what he said, which is crazy. speaker-1: contract. Why why does he why is he still here? What do you like about David Stearns halfway through a five year contract? speaker-0: Yeah, listen. I mean, listen, David's a thoughtful. ⁓ listen, I'm in my conversations with him, he's incredibly thorough. you know, there aren't answers that I I walk away and say, ⁓ you know, I I don't agree with that, or I mean, he's pretty, you know, buttoned down and and and knows what he's talking about. Okay. I we're two and a half years into a contract. Everyone forgets, does he get any credit for twenty four? Does that not count? No. Okay. And we almost made it to the World Series. and and that was just two years ago. So it's a mixed record. Okay. I mean, I'm not gonna say it's it's going great. Okay. ⁓ but it's too early to to really make evaluations. And I feel really strongly that if we're gonna burn insurance, that's a terrible place to be. And every time you burn insurance, that guess what? The next time nobody wants to come. Okay. Alright, I'm cutting them off here. speaker-1: See no, this is the thing, right? All right, cool. You want to talk about two years re two years removed from making almost making the World Series. You didn't make it. You almost made it. Well, guess what? Last year you didn't make the playoffs and this year you don't even look like you're making it again. You're making it actually worse this year. speaker-0: They got the worst record in national. speaker-1: ⁓ my Avatar fans will appreciate this. There is no Warren Bros and say. There's apparently nothing going on. Nothing wrong. Nothing is going on. We are all blind to what's going on. This is horrible luck for your ownership to be talking about this kind of leadership going on in his clubhouse. ⁓ man. This does that did that interview did him no favors. speaker-0: That David Stearns twenty twenty four team wasn't a David Stern team. He, you know what I'm saying? Like those weren't guys you brought in. So, and then he goes, I have conversations with him, and I never feel like, you know, he's got it buttoned up. I never disagree with him. How the hell can you not disagree with him bringing in Marcus Simeon and training Brandon Nemo? How the hell can you walk out and be like, okay, let's get rid of ⁓ Pete Alonzo, arguably the face of the damn Mets? How do you go? You know what? Yeah. Let's bring in Luis Roberts Jr. Let's bring in ⁓ the other jerk off that they brought in ⁓ from Minnesota. ⁓ I forgot his damn name. But y'all help me out. How the hell can you look at that? What would like and go? You know what? This man, as we touched on like what Joey just said, this man got his casino, this man got his bread, and I'm not even gonna play what he mentioned that 2027 might be even worse because. They're so high in payroll, you can't really see them adding more. This team is a cluster F. If if we want to be facts. And right now, I feel very bad for Met fans because they were able to like not engage and not really be caught up with the Mets because of the Knicks. But now you got to get back to reality. And hold on. Yankee fans, you're in the same damn boat. Yeah. We suck right now. Seven game losing streak. This team can't hit worth a lick. The pitching is starting to get hit a little bit more. Aaron Judge was supposed to be evaluated in four weeks. It's been four weeks. He ain't been evaluated. We're so bad right now that we are excited that Trent Grissom and Ryan McMahon is coming off the DL on Friday. This Austin Wells, ass. Anthony Volpe, been ass. This team, yes, injuries has hurt this team. However, this is because of this, this is Brian Cashman, dog. You ran it back, more or less ran it back with a team that got the ass kicked by the Toronto Blue Jays. This team is too reliant on Aaron Judge. Too reliant on Aaron Judge. Ben Rice, as much as I love Ben Rice, he's having a good season, should be an all star. Once got hurt, couldn't hit. Yeah. Cody Bellinger can't hit on the road. Now he's starting to not hit at home. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: The the bullpen sucks. Bettnar is one of the most reliable closers we pitchers we have in the bullpen, and he ain't even that good. The starters have been the silver lining, but Cam Schlitter in the game where we needed him most against Detroit yesterday, he got shellacked. This team has to answer a lot of things. Now, are they in a lot better shape than the New York Mets? 100%. There's not even an argument there. Will the Yankees make the playoffs? 100%. But that's the problem. The Yankees will make the playoffs. The Yankees will maybe make the ALCS because it's the product of a shitty division, a shitty league. The American League's not that good. American League probably has maybe two to three really good baseball teams. But this Yankee team is gonna fall to the same fate that they did last year. Maybe even worse if they don't address the catcher's position. And I know a lot of people are talking about Scoobo. I don't think Scooboo, I don't think the Yankees' problem is starting pitching. Yankees need to add a catcher that can damn hit. And they need to get some quality relievers. Premium relievers. Not a guy that had a high six ERA that. You know what? ⁓ we can we can work it out with him. Our analytics say that we can bring down no, no, no. Give me a guy. Give me a one A guy, as Becky Hammond would say. That's what I wanna see with the New York Yankees. ⁓ we got a comment on our Instagram that said, Drumming to the Knicks, please. Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay with bringing in Drummond if we get him and another center. ⁓ but guys, let us know in the comments below, man. It was a jam-packed show today. We try to squeeze in as much as we could tonight. ⁓ you know, the NBA is just a gift that keeps giving. ⁓ obviously, a lot more free agent signings can happen. The Knicks can get a center.
