- 0:35Speaker 1: people suffer from suffering from such a preventable disease. Heart
- 0:40Speaker 1: disease is affecting black people and women by astounding numbers.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Please welcome to Money Making Conversations Masterclass are shown Your Scott.
- 0:48Speaker 1: How you know what, Miss Scott, I'm great, Thank you,
- 0:51Speaker 1: Thank you for having me hin Well, let me just
- 0:53Speaker 1: because we're talking about heart disease. I remember you know
- 0:57Speaker 1: that it's a silent killer. There always say heart disease facts. Everybody.
- 1:02Speaker 1: You know, I'm not trying to turn this into a
- 1:04Speaker 1: dog show because I want to talk about, you know,
- 1:06Speaker 1: her salad dressing and she's an entrepreneur and how she's
- 1:10Speaker 1: she's trying to grow her brand, and she and her
- 1:12Speaker 1: brand is tied to salad dressing, but she's figured out
- 1:15Speaker 1: a way to not only serve a great product, but
- 1:17Speaker 1: also serve a great product, and how that can also
- 1:19Speaker 1: help you live longer. Heart disease, here's a fact, is
- 1:24Speaker 1: the leading cause of death for men, women, and people
- 1:27Speaker 1: of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States.
- 1:31Speaker 1: One person dies every thirty six seconds in the United
- 1:35Speaker 1: States from cardiovascular disease, about a hundred and about six
- 1:40Speaker 1: hundred and fifty nine thousand. Let's get that democratic About
- 1:43Speaker 1: six hundred and people in the United States die from
- 1:47Speaker 1: heart disease each year. That's one and mber four deaths.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I'm making this statement. Was something personal motivated you that
- 1:56Speaker 1: motivated you to create this line of salad dressing? Yes, absolutely,
- 2:03Speaker 1: losing my mom when I was fifteen and feeling helpless.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I felt helpless in that moment um. You know, she
- 2:10Speaker 1: complained she was normal that day, totally normal, normal activity,
- 2:14Speaker 1: cooking during the usual household chores, and that evening she
- 2:18Speaker 1: was just like, I need some air. She didn't know
- 2:20Speaker 1: what it was, but she couldn't breathe and then all
- 2:22Speaker 1: of a sudden she collapsed and said, you know, the
- 2:26Speaker 1: last thing she said would make something of yourself. And
- 2:29Speaker 1: that was the last time I saw her and heard
- 2:31Speaker 1: from her. So yeah, now that that impacted me and
- 2:35Speaker 1: a it was a negative thing that impacted me in
- 2:38Speaker 1: a positive way, right because you didn't know and and
- 2:42Speaker 1: when did you find out what you know, the exact
- 2:46Speaker 1: reason for her death? And how did that affect you?
- 2:49Speaker 1: Because you had to It was an educational period you
- 2:51Speaker 1: had to go through to know it wasn't your fault.
- 2:54Speaker 1: It was something that you know, somebody, some people said
- 2:57Speaker 1: the word God's will or her time and all. You know,
- 3:00Speaker 1: there's a lot of cliches come out when people die unexpectedly.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And so how did that whole period of a guilt, frustration,
- 3:08Speaker 1: sadness um manifests itself until you being an entrepreneur who
- 3:13Speaker 1: has an award winning salad dressing right now and Marinate talks, Well,
- 3:17Speaker 1: it really it changed me. You know, the sudden impact
- 3:21Speaker 1: of losing her changed me. You know, it was eye
- 3:23Speaker 1: opening and it was just something that made me realize, like, wow,
- 3:27Speaker 1: there's something you know that I need to do. You know,
- 3:30Speaker 1: I need to make something of myself number one. That's
- 3:32Speaker 1: what she said. So at that moment, I took nothing
- 3:34Speaker 1: for granted, like everything was intentional, even finishing high school
- 3:40Speaker 1: in three years. Games were over and so, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 1: being helpless in that moment, I felt like I needed
- 3:45Speaker 1: to be in healthcare. So I looked into becoming a nurse.
- 3:49Speaker 1: That wasn't it, And so I found therapy and that's
- 3:53Speaker 1: that's where I found my need to help other people.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I love. I love what nursing? Wasn't it a nurse
- 4:00Speaker 1: that wasn't Why? Why? Why? Why not nursing? You know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: because you said it's so quick. That wasn't nursing. It's
- 4:09Speaker 1: not as easy as it looks. You know. Well, you
- 4:13Speaker 1: know a lot of people say, you know, like I
- 4:15Speaker 1: I would love to be a doctor, but I'm not
- 4:18Speaker 1: the person you won't cut, know you okay, because I
- 4:22Speaker 1: just don't have that. You know. It's it's like it's
- 4:24Speaker 1: it's a it's a couple of things I could not
- 4:26Speaker 1: do in life, but you know I probably I would
- 4:28Speaker 1: want to do it. One it's being a pilot. You
- 4:30Speaker 1: don't want me landing your planes. It's something about coming
- 4:34Speaker 1: in and holding it steady. And a surgeon. You know,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I could probably we did this, but I'm sure, just
- 4:40Speaker 1: sure a couple of cavities would run me off, you know.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's pretty So you went into therapy. When
- 4:48Speaker 1: you say therapy, that has a broad meaning there. What
- 4:51Speaker 1: what type of therapy did you go into? I went
- 4:54Speaker 1: into with the you know, physical occupational therapy license occupational
- 4:59Speaker 1: therapist and um so I'm very creative in that aspect.
- 5:04Speaker 1: That's why I am an entrepreneur. But I love to
- 5:05Speaker 1: help people too, so that fit right into what I
- 5:08Speaker 1: needed to do, you know, because occupational therapy is usually
- 5:12Speaker 1: a creativity to help people with deficits, you know what
- 5:15Speaker 1: I'm saying. Rather it's mental, rather, it's physical, Rather it's
- 5:20Speaker 1: you know, anything you can really help the kids with
- 5:23Speaker 1: autism and special needs. It's so many different aspects that
- 5:27Speaker 1: occupational therapy working. So yes, I found my love there.
- 5:31Speaker 1: You know, my my mother, my mother in law and
- 5:34Speaker 1: sister law are registered nurses and they used to always
- 5:36Speaker 1: complain about their jobs, right and well, you know, an
- 5:40Speaker 1: interesting thing about it is that when I hear this
- 5:43Speaker 1: conversation that you're given and thank you for calling on
- 5:45Speaker 1: the show, money making conversation is that. You know, when
- 5:50Speaker 1: you start talking about salad dressing and you hear the
- 5:52Speaker 1: word because everybody wants your salad dressing to be great
- 5:55Speaker 1: and good, and we don't talk about them any because
- 5:57Speaker 1: I don't want to cross into this break because I
- 5:59Speaker 1: want to talk about how you got on the shelves
- 6:01Speaker 1: and how this whole product. But when you're talking about words,
- 6:03Speaker 1: these are the words that run people away when they
- 6:05Speaker 1: hear them that in their mind, it doesn't taste good
- 6:08Speaker 1: because we're so mentally I'm talking about the racial African
- 6:13Speaker 1: American community, especially, they're hear words like vegan, dairy free,
- 6:19Speaker 1: low sodium, gluten free. That's not gonna taste good. You
- 6:25Speaker 1: know that? Am I telling the truth? I promise you
- 6:29Speaker 1: you are low sodium black people hanging up on you.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I'm telling you right now. So we gots to have
- 6:36Speaker 1: our salt. Okay, we got to have our salt. True
- 6:41Speaker 1: Now that Scott so So tell everybody why too much
- 6:45Speaker 1: salt is bad for you. Though supermuch salt is bad
- 6:49Speaker 1: for you. For one, it swells you up inside, it
- 6:52Speaker 1: increases I'm sorry, Noah, no Noah, I'm sorry, guys. No
- 6:58Speaker 1: one want to talk. Okay, it increases your volumes in
- 7:02Speaker 1: your blood vessel, and the health which decreases the amount
- 7:05Speaker 1: of your blood flow, you know, which increases your blood pressure.
- 7:08Speaker 1: So that's that's, that's and that's where the silent killer
- 7:12Speaker 1: comes in, right that we're talking about, you know, because
- 7:14Speaker 1: you hear these statements all the time. He was he
- 7:17Speaker 1: looked so healthy to me. He was just if you
- 7:20Speaker 1: were laughing. And unfortunately, when you reminisced back to your
- 7:24Speaker 1: mom's death, she was doing everyday towards she was just
- 7:27Speaker 1: living life and then she said I can't breathe, I
- 7:30Speaker 1: need to get some air, and she passed away. So
- 7:33Speaker 1: so we can walk through life feeling good and ignore
- 7:37Speaker 1: signs yep, yep. It's typically it's really like a gentle
- 7:43Speaker 1: swelling that you don't really recognize, you know, and so
- 7:47Speaker 1: they say, oh, you have five bloo presure you like
- 7:49Speaker 1: I do. You know, you don't really feel it. It's
- 7:52Speaker 1: a it's an internal gentle swelling that's coming from that sodium,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So you want to keep
- 7:58Speaker 1: that sodium low. You want to also continue to keep
- 8:01Speaker 1: moving because that helps to you know, it helps to
- 8:05Speaker 1: provide the vasil dilation at those days said a big
- 8:09Speaker 1: word there. We're gonna go to break here and come
- 8:11Speaker 1: back dilation. You know, I don't want to lose all

- 9:15Speaker 1: all money Making Conversations in m LS one A, two
- 9:19Speaker 1: three three four in m l S Consumer Access dot Org.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Now let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You know, I don't want to shy away from the
- 9:31Speaker 1: reality of the The food is a good product. It's
- 9:35Speaker 1: it's very popular, it's being sold online. But we have
- 9:38Speaker 1: to say why it's also valuable to you as a
- 9:42Speaker 1: health product. You know, like you know people recommend you know,
- 9:45Speaker 1: they say take an asp room day keeping. You know
- 9:47Speaker 1: people say that, and you know I always keep a
- 9:49Speaker 1: cough drop in my my cabinet at home. With my
- 9:53Speaker 1: throat feels a little sore, I pop a cough drop
- 9:55Speaker 1: in a minute. I always tell people I'm not gonna
- 9:57Speaker 1: wait till I get sick. If I feel kind of
- 9:59Speaker 1: like it's coming, I call that prevented. And so I
- 10:02Speaker 1: look at what you when I want to reading about
- 10:04Speaker 1: your product. When I hear these terms about you know,
- 10:07Speaker 1: this is something that you didn't You create it, but
- 10:09Speaker 1: you didn't intend to fully understand the impact it will
- 10:12Speaker 1: have on people. I'm sure you're getting a lot of
- 10:14Speaker 1: testimonials about how how the food your salary dresser is
- 10:18Speaker 1: impacting people's lives. Let's talk about that. Absolutely. Yes, I
- 10:23Speaker 1: get pictures from customers all the time, and then you know,
- 10:26Speaker 1: it's just, um, it's inspiring. Its actually what keeps me going,
- 10:31Speaker 1: you know, for people to, um give me the feedback
- 10:33Speaker 1: of why they like it, how they like it, and
- 10:35Speaker 1: how they're using it and how it's benefiting them. Um.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So that's it lets me know that the whole purpose
- 10:41Speaker 1: is being you know, it's being you know, created here
- 10:45Speaker 1: because um that I created it for people, not really
- 10:47Speaker 1: for myself. I do use the product and I love it,
- 10:50Speaker 1: but I really created it for others to benefit off
- 10:53Speaker 1: of it. And like when my mom passed, I didn't
- 10:55Speaker 1: know that it was the number one killer. Like that's
- 10:57Speaker 1: it's not talked about enough. You know, Um, it's the
- 11:01Speaker 1: number one killer even despite COVID, it's still the number
- 11:04Speaker 1: one killer. Every year, they're like so many new diagnosis
- 11:09Speaker 1: one point five million new diagnosis is the cardiovascular disease
- 11:13Speaker 1: related elements. That's that's that's crazy, and a lot of
- 11:17Speaker 1: it is because of lack of education. People don't realize
- 11:20Speaker 1: that they can have good food that tastes delicious without
- 11:24Speaker 1: all that junk in there. You know, Um, we have
- 11:27Speaker 1: a lot of products on the shelf that are seal
- 11:29Speaker 1: addressed in the merinated, are loaded, and chemicals loaded. Stuff
- 11:32Speaker 1: that shocked me that I didn't even know when I
- 11:34Speaker 1: started the product that that stuff was in there, like
- 11:37Speaker 1: stuff you can pronounce stuff They using grass fertilizer. But
- 11:40Speaker 1: yet we wonder why all the dialysis centers are popping
- 11:43Speaker 1: up in our community. Why is that no one's really
- 11:46Speaker 1: talking about what we need to have in our diets
- 11:48Speaker 1: each and every day to stay healthy. You know, what
- 11:51Speaker 1: we need to be eating each and every day to
- 11:54Speaker 1: keep our board pressure and tach. I'm one of those
- 11:58Speaker 1: bad people. I'm not gonna I I you can lie
- 12:02Speaker 1: me up. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna sit on
- 12:04Speaker 1: this show like I'm a saint. Now you know, I
- 12:07Speaker 1: gotta admit I'm one of those people that eating that.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Like you said, some ingredients you can't evennounce the words.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's me. I look at I've never I would tell
- 12:18Speaker 1: you this be God. I've never looked at the ball
- 12:20Speaker 1: picking the bottler, looked at the back, I looked the front.
- 12:23Speaker 1: If the color is right, I said, it's been a grid.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I shaked it. I shake the salad dressing and go.
- 12:29Speaker 1: It moves in the bottle pretty good. Or I heard
- 12:31Speaker 1: that name or that brand, I'm I'm it's it's in
- 12:34Speaker 1: my it's in my basket. I've never turned to the
- 12:36Speaker 1: rounding with okay to it. I totally get it. And
- 12:42Speaker 1: you know what, and it's okay because that's what most
- 12:45Speaker 1: people are doing. And that's why that's why you're on
- 12:49Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation Masterclass. That's that's gonna tell the truth.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I have to bring up somebody who can slap me
- 12:55Speaker 1: in my forehead and said, stopped. I'm here to stop
- 12:59Speaker 1: the madness. Now, how did you create this product? Let's
- 13:02Speaker 1: let's talk about the journey. Let's talk about the dream.
- 13:04Speaker 1: We talked about the sadness, you talked about the inspiration.
- 13:07Speaker 1: How did you create this product? And who helped you?
- 13:11Speaker 1: You know, I know, you know we all started all
- 13:13Speaker 1: in vinegar based on different things. That the vinegrad is
- 13:16Speaker 1: like the number one if you don't how to make
- 13:18Speaker 1: it a salary dressing, all in vinegrad exactly that's it. Yeah,
- 13:23Speaker 1: but my mom, my mom was a young lady and
- 13:25Speaker 1: had a huge family. I come from a big family.
- 13:27Speaker 1: To him one of fourteen, I'm actually done the thirteen
- 13:29Speaker 1: of fourteen from the same my dad. So my mom
- 13:32Speaker 1: cooked every day every day. She made these healthy. They
- 13:35Speaker 1: weren't healthy home cooked meals that were delicious, so her
- 13:38Speaker 1: products or I would take them to work, like the salads.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I would take them to work, and the co workers
- 13:43Speaker 1: love product. Like I was a salad girl. Like I
- 13:46Speaker 1: had to bring that to every function we had. They
- 13:50Speaker 1: wouldn't let me leave. Was like I heard stuff over like,
- 13:53Speaker 1: don't letter leave until we get the recipes something pretty
- 13:56Speaker 1: much my mom recipes. I just made them hard healthy
- 13:59Speaker 1: recipe from the home cooked meals that we would have
- 14:01Speaker 1: every day. I made them hard healthy and made them,
- 14:04Speaker 1: you know, delicious. You know, I wanted them to still
- 14:08Speaker 1: taste good, because no one wants to eat a healthy
- 14:10Speaker 1: product that doesn't taste good consistently, you know, absolutely after that.
- 14:14Speaker 1: That's why I mentioned that because of the fact that
- 14:17Speaker 1: we tend to run, and we I include we meeting
- 14:21Speaker 1: Rashwan McDonald tend to run for things that we feel
- 14:25Speaker 1: doesn't taste right or not, doesn't taste, It doesn't have
- 14:30Speaker 1: a taste. We grew up, we grew up to know
- 14:32Speaker 1: or we're used to eating, and we rejected immediately, don't
- 14:36Speaker 1: even give it a shot. So so, but you have
- 14:38Speaker 1: a brand, you know, how did you start mixing the
- 14:41Speaker 1: right ingredients? I guess I want to know you know
- 14:43Speaker 1: because you I'm assuming you started in your home kitchen. Correct, Yes, well,
- 14:48Speaker 1: the product, the recipes are my mom's. I just made
- 14:51Speaker 1: them hard healthy which okay, I took the bad stuff
- 14:55Speaker 1: out and put good stuff in. Okay, let me ask
- 14:57Speaker 1: you this what what what would you can say or
- 15:00Speaker 1: the bad stuff you took out? And I'm not saying
- 15:03Speaker 1: it bad in a bad way. You just we're trying
- 15:05Speaker 1: to turn a meal that's really good into a healthy product,
- 15:10Speaker 1: right absolutely? Ye? Okay, So we know low sodium, it
- 15:14Speaker 1: probably had salt, and you turn that into what type
- 15:16Speaker 1: of salt would you have used with this coach your
- 15:18Speaker 1: salt or what do you do? You mineralized mineralized pin
- 15:22Speaker 1: Himalayan sea salt, which is beneficial to the body. It's
- 15:25Speaker 1: not going to cause you. That's not more, that's not
- 15:27Speaker 1: more than. That's not more. You know, you know I
- 15:32Speaker 1: grew up on that little that little blue blue salt
- 15:35Speaker 1: By right right, that's me that's met you lost him, Alan.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna just say right now, you lost him. Alan.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I love it. I love it, but lord no, I
- 16:00Speaker 1: needs to be this is something that that needs to
- 16:02Speaker 1: be on my table because of the fact that you're
- 16:04Speaker 1: telling me Richard, your over sixty. You should look at
- 16:08Speaker 1: your died differently. Okay, just because you get up and
- 16:11Speaker 1: you you think you're looking fine in the mirror when
- 16:14Speaker 1: you when you're looking when you're leaving the house. So
- 16:18Speaker 1: your your blood pressure, which I do, go to the
- 16:19Speaker 1: doctor twice a year. I do that. You know. You know,
- 16:22Speaker 1: as you get older, you know you want to be
- 16:24Speaker 1: you know, you start thinking about being God as you
- 16:27Speaker 1: get older. Have on Let's see how I hold off this.
- 16:30Speaker 1: It's just neat and so true. Yeah, that's the yeah,
- 16:38Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, we do it. Sometimes has to say Okay,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I gotta do better. You know, I gotta do that.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And I'm not saying to say you don't have what
- 16:45Speaker 1: you like every now and then, but on that normal, consistent,
- 16:48Speaker 1: everyday basis, we gotta we gotta really start putting some
- 16:51Speaker 1: you know, we gotta start like really being involved with
- 16:54Speaker 1: what's going on and going into our bodies, you know
- 16:56Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Now, you also have a marinade. You
- 16:59Speaker 1: have a salad dressing, and because I did, you know,
- 17:02Speaker 1: I looked up because I knew it was coming to
- 17:05Speaker 1: the show that I looked up some things you do.
- 17:07Speaker 1: So these salad dressing is also can be put on
- 17:10Speaker 1: sandwichou used as a sandwich spread as well. Correct. Yes,
- 17:14Speaker 1: it's like you know, people have sent me recipes with
- 17:17Speaker 1: all kinds of stuff they've done with them, but they
- 17:19Speaker 1: are dressings and marinade, like you can marinage your salmon,
- 17:23Speaker 1: your shrimp, your chicken in them, and I mean just
- 17:26Speaker 1: delicious and still add any additional like onion powder, garlic powder,
- 17:30Speaker 1: if that's what you want, but it just really changes
- 17:32Speaker 1: the flavor and makes it something delicious. And more importantly,
- 17:35Speaker 1: when you're using ours, it doesn't have all those chemicals
- 17:37Speaker 1: in it because see a lot of those chemicals and
- 17:39Speaker 1: stuff they're using grass fertilizer stuff like that, Like why
- 17:43Speaker 1: is that even in food? You know? So that's one
- 17:46Speaker 1: main important thing that you know, you don't want to
- 17:48Speaker 1: just be pouring stuff on the you gonna make this
- 17:50Speaker 1: beautiful salad. Now you've got all this stuff out of
- 17:53Speaker 1: this dressing bottles? Like, what are you doing? You know?
- 17:56Speaker 1: And uh, I'm not saying don't have ranch every now
- 17:59Speaker 1: and then. Okay, well I'm gonna tell you something. I'm
- 18:02Speaker 1: gonna tell you something. If you lived as long as
- 18:05Speaker 1: I've had lived, then you've had ranch too much. Okay,
- 18:08Speaker 1: let drink ranching. Just it's you rouched you, you ranched out. Okay,
- 18:13Speaker 1: it's time to look at it, look at your life.
- 18:15Speaker 1: And you're eating habits from a different way. And that's
- 18:18Speaker 1: what this episode is about. This reason I brought you
- 18:20Speaker 1: on the show because I'm talking about being an entrepreneur.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I'm talking about planning your life, but we're planning your
- 18:26Speaker 1: life is also how you eat, and how you eat
- 18:30Speaker 1: determined when you can have a good day. You know.
- 18:33Speaker 1: We're just coming out of COVID. We saw that COVID
- 18:35Speaker 1: impacted the minority community more than any other community. And
- 18:39Speaker 1: what was it tied to high blood pressure, overweight, you know,
- 18:45Speaker 1: poor eating habits, and so we were attacked the first
- 18:49Speaker 1: by COVID and so and so I feel it's it's
- 18:53Speaker 1: fortunate that now you've made something available that doesn't doesn't
- 18:58Speaker 1: doesn't attack our path. I like to say, oh, this
- 19:01Speaker 1: is not good, but this is something that people are
- 19:03Speaker 1: now finding value, not only in a good food that
- 19:07Speaker 1: you've created, a good salad dresser meritage that you've created,
- 19:11Speaker 1: but something they can enjoy. Talk about that absolutely. I
- 19:15Speaker 1: I can't like people don't want to leave the house,
- 19:18Speaker 1: Like when I would make it at home for family
- 19:20Speaker 1: functions and they're like, I know you got that salad
- 19:23Speaker 1: that's apple peacon salad to day, you know, and you
- 19:28Speaker 1: can switch it up. You know, different recipes are on
- 19:30Speaker 1: our west side at s maries dot com, so you
- 19:33Speaker 1: can you can get those recipes and switch them up
- 19:35Speaker 1: any kind of way you like. But people literally like,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I know you made my salad, right, I know that
- 19:44Speaker 1: salid lady, I don't know. Oh, Ye're so enjoyable the interview.
- 19:50Speaker 1: You know, I love the salad dupen making Rashaun, Oh
- 19:53Speaker 1: my god, you've been cutting up well, I've been ranched out.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I was just time for me to change eating habit.
- 20:00Speaker 1: We're gonna be back for more. We're gonna talk about
- 20:02Speaker 1: the different dressings that you've made. Uh, your product line,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I should say, but also just talk about how did
- 20:09Speaker 1: you manage to get in stores and how people started
- 20:11Speaker 1: discovering your product on the shelves, because that's the exciting part.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Because we all have dreams. But when people started seeing
- 20:18Speaker 1: your dream and started championing your dream, that's a different
- 20:22Speaker 1: that's a different hide. We'll be right back with more
- 20:24Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. Now, let's return
- 20:32Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. But it
- 20:37Speaker 1: started somewhere, miss God. In regards to the recipes with
- 20:42Speaker 1: the foundation, you changed them up. I took some of
- 20:45Speaker 1: the lot as you say, the word bad things out
- 20:47Speaker 1: of the recipe and made them health conscious. Just use
- 20:50Speaker 1: the word health conscious into the recipe. Now you okay,
- 20:55Speaker 1: it had what was that transition step to put it
- 20:58Speaker 1: in a bottle and it then take get to a
- 21:00Speaker 1: store and then they put it on the shelf. Talk
- 21:02Speaker 1: about that right absolutely. So you know you have the recipe.
- 21:07Speaker 1: We all have recipes, right, So you just create the
- 21:10Speaker 1: recipe and then once you create the recipe, packaging is
- 21:14Speaker 1: so important, you know, um, making sure whatever it is
- 21:17Speaker 1: you're selling, if it's some bakery, if it's if it's uh,
- 21:21Speaker 1: potato chips. If it's stuff that goes and bottles, you
- 21:24Speaker 1: want to make sure that you have it up to
- 21:27Speaker 1: whatever it is your competition is, you know, um, you know,
- 21:31Speaker 1: So did you go in the store looking at your
- 21:33Speaker 1: competition looking at their packaging? What were your idea to say? Okay,
- 21:38Speaker 1: because I'm telling you. In the salad dressing world, it's
- 21:42Speaker 1: it's it's a lot. Believe me. I go down that.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Like I said, I just look at the bottle that
- 21:48Speaker 1: has the nice color on it or familiar brand name,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and then I pick it up and I'm good. I
- 21:54Speaker 1: cannot tell you why I bought it other than the
- 21:57Speaker 1: fact that name sounds familiar. I think I've had that before, okay,
- 22:03Speaker 1: and then I get them out not that and based
- 22:06Speaker 1: on memory. So you're battling, you know, people who are
- 22:10Speaker 1: tied to tradition, people are tied to not wanting to change.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And also people don't experiment that much in the saladdressing lane,
- 22:20Speaker 1: so do they speak to what they know and that's it,
- 22:23Speaker 1: you know, And so going the brand, Yeah, it's it's
- 22:27Speaker 1: you got to really be involved intuitively, like you have
- 22:32Speaker 1: to do it on purpose. Like people they're so used
- 22:35Speaker 1: to their brand that they've been buying for years. When
- 22:37Speaker 1: they come in the store, they's so they're just focused
- 22:40Speaker 1: on getting what's on that list. You know, you have
- 22:42Speaker 1: to creative ways to introduce them to your flavors. You
- 22:46Speaker 1: know during the store Proskay cool, let's let's stop right there.
- 22:48Speaker 1: When you say creative ways to introduce them to your flavors,
- 22:51Speaker 1: how did you do that? Um? We do a lot
- 22:54Speaker 1: of store promos. In store promos, um, you know, we
- 22:59Speaker 1: go out to community events. My passion is talking to
- 23:02Speaker 1: people in the community because I like to educate with
- 23:04Speaker 1: this product. Because that's why I was creating a memory
- 23:06Speaker 1: of my mom who died of heart disease, se Marie
- 23:09Speaker 1: with my mom. So this product was created with a
- 23:11Speaker 1: purpose to educate the communities about heart disease and UM
- 23:17Speaker 1: alternatives delicious alternatives, right and what you're what we're used to?
- 23:23Speaker 1: Like you said, Rishon, Yeah, no, no, no, let's let's
- 23:26Speaker 1: slow everything down here. Okay, who did you tell this
- 23:31Speaker 1: idea to just say, you know something, I think I
- 23:34Speaker 1: can get into sally dressing business? And did they say
- 23:38Speaker 1: go forward? And they went, girl? You crazy? What? What? What? What? What? What? Statement?
- 23:43Speaker 1: Did you get at the box. Well, well, people, they
- 23:47Speaker 1: harassed me for it. So I told my husband, I said,
- 23:50Speaker 1: I need to do something meaningful with this. I need
- 23:52Speaker 1: to do something meaningful with this. And you know, he
- 23:55Speaker 1: knows I'm an entrepreneur of my heart, like I've done
- 23:57Speaker 1: lots of stuff in the past, but you understand my
- 24:00Speaker 1: passion of losing my mom and stuff like that. So
- 24:02Speaker 1: you know, he's like, Okay, well we can just try it,
- 24:04Speaker 1: you know. So when he gave me the green light,
- 24:06Speaker 1: I said, let me just get the planning. You know,
- 24:09Speaker 1: everything starts with the plans. So first and foremost, whatever
- 24:12Speaker 1: it is you want to do, you want to write
- 24:14Speaker 1: it out right. If you step down, look at your competition,
- 24:18Speaker 1: make sure you have it all together, you know, find
- 24:20Speaker 1: out the rules and regulations of that product. You know,
- 24:23Speaker 1: because everything you may can't just be putting the stores.
- 24:26Speaker 1: You know, being in Whole Foods is a big deal
- 24:28Speaker 1: for us here. Um, Whole Foods has a whole separate
- 24:33Speaker 1: list of standards. Like you, every product that you see
- 24:36Speaker 1: and want can't be in Whole Foods. And um, so
- 24:40Speaker 1: that landing and is a major you know, it's just
- 24:43Speaker 1: like a major accomplishment. So how did you okay, because
- 24:47Speaker 1: you know, I don't want to miss these steps because
- 24:49Speaker 1: you know you we know it's major. You're an African
- 24:52Speaker 1: American female. You know you're a therapist. You know you're
- 24:54Speaker 1: not a you know you're not trained in and making
- 24:58Speaker 1: salad dresses checking for a living. You didn't get a
- 25:00Speaker 1: recommendation letter from a competitor that makes sally dressing. I
- 25:05Speaker 1: got this sally dressing. Did you do you have to
- 25:08Speaker 1: give them a sample to taste or you come in
- 25:11Speaker 1: for a tasting session. How does that work? Yep, that's
- 25:14Speaker 1: what happened. Hopefuls was opening in Chicago in a local
- 25:18Speaker 1: community in Inglewood, and they were looking for entrepreneurs um
- 25:22Speaker 1: and so you know, they was like, oh, you don't
- 25:24Speaker 1: live in the area. No, you don't fit. So I
- 25:26Speaker 1: guess they needed to meet a quota or something. I
- 25:28Speaker 1: was like, I was like, okay, God, if that's what
- 25:30Speaker 1: you want, then I won't be there because they said no,
- 25:32Speaker 1: you know. But then they called me back and I
- 25:34Speaker 1: was like, this guy, you're funny, Okay, whatever, because I
- 25:41Speaker 1: don't live in this zip code. Did you walk out
- 25:43Speaker 1: that as a attitude. I was just like I was like, okay, God,
- 25:47Speaker 1: that yesterday my time. You know, you did some funny.
- 25:53Speaker 1: First of all, I enjoyed this interview. I haven't laughed
- 25:55Speaker 1: as much a long time because I could just see
- 25:58Speaker 1: you walk out of that mad as heck went home,
- 26:01Speaker 1: says some fancy words to your husband about what you
- 26:03Speaker 1: thought of old foods. Right, I don't care. I tell
- 26:07Speaker 1: you how you love And so they called you back.
- 26:12Speaker 1: They called you back, They called me back for a
- 26:14Speaker 1: family for a tasting. I went down to the corporate office,
- 26:17Speaker 1: because it always starts with the corporate if you want
- 26:19Speaker 1: to get your product in doors and what happy how many?
- 26:22Speaker 1: How many bottles did you take down there? So a
- 26:24Speaker 1: couple of the throw at them. They said, no think
- 26:28Speaker 1: I took a ready made salad and I had a
- 26:30Speaker 1: couple bottles, you know, all the top ones that people love,
- 26:33Speaker 1: and they were just extremely impressed. It was extremely like
- 26:37Speaker 1: we we've outsold all their major brands and we're still
- 26:42Speaker 1: doing We're still doing that. And you know, being an
- 26:46Speaker 1: African American when I've received pushback, major pushback, but I'm
- 26:49Speaker 1: gonna I'm just not that I'm not cut from that cloth.
- 26:52Speaker 1: That's gonna stop. So I don't care. You could put
- 26:55Speaker 1: me on the bottom shove. I'm gonna tell my people
- 26:57Speaker 1: where the family yet, I'm gonna just you go just
- 27:02Speaker 1: crawling the store. I'm on the bottom self, you see.
- 27:09Speaker 1: And so so why you know this is we're having
- 27:13Speaker 1: a lot of fun and I'm enjoying this interview with you.
- 27:16Speaker 1: The beauty of your story. It starts sad, but wow,
- 27:22Speaker 1: it's proven to be a blessing to so many people
- 27:24Speaker 1: and and and you know, because like it put you
- 27:28Speaker 1: on the bottom shelf and then you start going up
- 27:29Speaker 1: chelf shelves. When they came back and told you, you know,
- 27:33Speaker 1: people seem to like your se Marie. What what did that?
- 27:37Speaker 1: What did they ring to? It's just like, you know,
- 27:38Speaker 1: if you were a musical artist, you driving and you
- 27:41Speaker 1: hear your song on the radio, I think that'd be
- 27:43Speaker 1: comparable to that. When you got that call right from
- 27:47Speaker 1: it's crazy like they were like you all sold all
- 27:50Speaker 1: the major brands we've had for years and like you know,
- 27:53Speaker 1: like the first month and stuff like that. So that
- 27:56Speaker 1: was just like mind blowing. I was like, Okay, people
- 27:58Speaker 1: like this stuff. They really like this. Okay, So the
- 28:01Speaker 1: next step of question, I'm still go, Okay, what what
- 28:05Speaker 1: will help you to explain what is stopping you from
- 28:08Speaker 1: going across country and leaving the Chicago market because your
- 28:11Speaker 1: product is selling the world in the in the regional marketing.
- 28:15Speaker 1: What what's the next thing we're looking I'm open to investors,
- 28:19Speaker 1: you know, investors to help expand a brand because you know,
- 28:22Speaker 1: it's a multibillion dollar industry and I'm the only black
- 28:27Speaker 1: girl doing this, and um, people love it. They love it.
- 28:30Speaker 1: So it's kind of like I want to give people
- 28:32Speaker 1: something that's helping them. You know, it's not just a
- 28:35Speaker 1: product that's delicious and taste good. It helps people, you know.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Um that's my that's my reason and my wife wanting
- 28:43Speaker 1: to do this. You know, because no fifteen year old
- 28:47Speaker 1: or anyone younger than me my sister was fourteen, should
- 28:49Speaker 1: have to move their best friends to something they didn't
- 28:52Speaker 1: even know existed in their parents, you know what I'm saying. So,
- 28:55Speaker 1: but you can't, but you can't order and you do
- 28:58Speaker 1: ship out of state? Correct? Oh yeah, we shipped nationwide.
- 29:01Speaker 1: We've shipped to every state so far. We get repeat
- 29:05Speaker 1: orders all the time. We shipp a lot in Atlanta,
- 29:08Speaker 1: ship a lot in Texas, California. You know, Tabitha Brown
- 29:12Speaker 1: is a big supporter. She comes to Chicago and she
- 29:14Speaker 1: looks for us and hops that just really do that
- 29:18Speaker 1: blew my mind. It was beautiful. But yeah, so that's
- 29:23Speaker 1: it's just been an amazing experience and something. And like
- 29:26Speaker 1: it took my husband bout WorldWind. Like you know, he
- 29:28Speaker 1: has this whole separate things of what he loved to do,
- 29:31Speaker 1: but he didn't expect for it to do what it's
- 29:32Speaker 1: doing now. So what's stopping me is mainly, you know,
- 29:36Speaker 1: like I said, going into other investing, if I had
- 29:39Speaker 1: a great investor, would be great. And you know, because
- 29:42Speaker 1: of COVID shut down a lot of UM manufactories and
- 29:45Speaker 1: stuff like that, so we have to go out of
- 29:46Speaker 1: state to find a better manufacturer. So we're working on
- 29:50Speaker 1: all those things. But those are the those are just
- 29:52Speaker 1: the only two things. Well, I'm telling you something. Thank
- 29:55Speaker 1: you for calling in Moneymenting comes to do master class
- 29:58Speaker 1: an amazing product. S Marie's Salad Dressing based out of Chicago.
- 30:02Speaker 1: We can go online. Thank you. We're gonna talk soon.
- 30:05Speaker 1: First of all, you made my heart, as they say
- 30:07Speaker 1: stronger on this interview. I appreciate you. Stay safe, Okay,
- 30:10Speaker 1: we talked, so you guys. God bless you, but I
- 30:13Speaker 1: think
