- 0:00Luke chapter 6 Now it happened that he was passing through some
- 0:04grain fields on a Sabbath, and his disciples were picking the
- 0:07heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating the
- 0:09grain. But some of the Pharisees said,
- 0:12Why do you do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?
- 0:15And Jesus answering them said, have you not even read what
- 0:18David did when he was hungry? He and those who were with him,
- 0:21how he entered the House of God, and took and ate the consecrated
- 0:24bread, which is not lawful for any to eat except the priest
- 0:27alone, and gave it to his companions.
- 0:30And he was saying to them, The Son of Man is Lord of the
- 0:33Sabbath. On another Sabbath he entered
- 0:36the synagogue and was teaching, and there was a man there whose
- 0:39right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees
- 0:41were watching him closely to see if he healed on the Sabbath, so
- 0:45that they might find reason to accuse him.
- 0:47But he knew what they were thinking.
- 0:49And he said to the man with the withered hand, Get up and come
- 0:51forward. And he got up and came forward,
- 0:55and Jesus said to them, I ask you, is it lawful to do good or
- 0:58to do harm on the Sabbath to save a life or to destroy it?
- 1:03After looking around at the mall, he said to him, Stretch
- 1:05out your hand. And he did so, and his hand was
- 1:09restored. But they themselves were filled
- 1:12with rage and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.
- 1:16It was at this time that he went off to the mountain to pray, and
- 1:19he spent the whole night in prayer to God.
- 1:21And when day came, he called his disciples to him and chose 12 of
- 1:24them, whom he also named as apostles.
- 1:27Simon, whom he named Peter and Andrew his brother, and James
- 1:31and John and Philip and Bartholomew and Matthew and
- 1:33Thomas. James the son of Alpheus and
- 1:36Simon who was called the Zealot. Judas the son of James and Judas
- 1:40Iscariot, who became a traitor. Jesus came down with them and
- 1:44stood on a level place, and there was a large crowd of his
- 1:47disciples and a great throng of people from all Judea and
- 1:51Jerusalem in the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon, who had come
- 1:54to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.
- 1:57And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were being
- 1:59cured, and all the people were trying to touch him, for power
- 2:03was coming from him and healing them all.
- 2:06In turning his gaze toward his disciples, he began to say,
- 2:09Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God.
- 2:13Blessed are you who hungered now, for you shall be satisfied.
- 2:17Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
- 2:19Blessed are you when men hate you and ostracize you and insult
- 2:23you and scorn your name as evil for the sake of the Son of Man.
- 2:27Be glad in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward
- 2:31is great in heaven. For in the same way their
- 2:33fathers used to treat the prophets.
- 2:36But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort
- 2:39in full. Woe to you who are well fed now,
- 2:42for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for
- 2:45you shall mourn and weep. Woe to you when all men speak
- 2:49well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets
- 2:52in the same way. But I say to you, who here love
- 2:55your enemies? Do good to those who hate.
- 2:58You bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
- 3:02Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also.
- 3:05And whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt
- 3:08from him either. Give to everyone who asks of
- 3:11you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.
- 3:16Treat others the same way you want them to treat.
- 3:18You if. You love those who love you.
- 3:21What? Credit is that to you?
- 3:23For even sinners love those who love them.
- 3:25If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that
- 3:28to you? For even sinners do the same, if
- 3:32you lend to those from whom you expect to receive.
- 3:34What credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in
- 3:38order to receive back the same amount.
- 3:41But love your enemies and do good, and lend, expecting
- 3:44nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you
- 3:48will be sons of the Most High, for He himself is kind to
- 3:52ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your father
- 3:55is merciful. Do not judge, and you will not
- 3:59be judged, and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.
- 4:02Pardon and you will be pardoned. Give, and it will be given to
- 4:06you. They will pour into your lap a
- 4:09good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running
- 4:12over, For by your standard of measure it will be measured to
- 4:16you in return. And he also spoke a parable to
- 4:19them. A blind man cannot guide a blind
- 4:21man, can he? Will they not both fall into a
- 4:24pit? A pupil is not above his
- 4:26teacher, but everyone after he has been fully trained, will be
- 4:29like his teacher. Why do you look at the speck
- 4:32that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that
- 4:35is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your
- 4:38brother, Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your
- 4:40eye, when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own
- 4:44eye? You hypocrite, first take the
- 4:47log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to
- 4:50take out the speck that is in your brother's eye.
- 4:52For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the
- 4:56other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit.
- 4:59For each tree is known by its fruit.
- 5:02For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes
- 5:05from a briar Bush. The good man out of the good
- 5:08treasure of his heart brings forth what is good, and the evil
- 5:12man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil.
- 5:15For his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.
- 5:18Why do you call me Lord? Lord, and do not do what I say?
- 5:23Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and acts on them,
- 5:26I will show you whom he is like. He is like a man building a
- 5:30house who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock, and when
- 5:34a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and
- 5:37could not shake it, because it had been well built.
- 5:41But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, it's
- 5:44like a man who built a house on the ground without any
- 5:46foundation and the torrent burst against it and immediately it
- 5:50collapsed and the ruin of that house was great.
