- 1:34Speaker 1: n b A, and an sec ESPN Women's Basketball analysts.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Please work on to money making this conversation the owner
- 1:41Speaker 1: of the Premier t Bar and Cafe in Indianapolis, Tamika
- 1:46Speaker 1: Catchings Demika dem I'd love that tc TC owned the
- 1:54Speaker 1: premiere tea bar and Cafe in Indianapolis and it's awesome song.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Now ould tell you my wife? I don't drink coffee
- 2:03Speaker 1: or tea. My wife I think she's I think I
- 2:06Speaker 1: wanted to someone say she's addicted to tea because if
- 2:08Speaker 1: she doesn't have it, she has bad days. You know
- 2:11Speaker 1: what I'm saying. She's like, she's I gotta get my tea.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I gotta get my tea. I gotta get my tea.
- 2:15Speaker 1: So I want to So this interview is for my wife,
- 2:18Speaker 1: but also because it's because she's a tea fan and
- 2:21Speaker 1: she she she loves it. She has all these different flavors.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Tell us about your We're gonna talk about a lot
- 2:26Speaker 1: of things, but I want to start off talking about
- 2:28Speaker 1: your your place in Indianapolis, the premier tea uh bar
- 2:32Speaker 1: and cafe in Indianapolis. Talk to me about that and
- 2:35Speaker 1: how did you get involved with it? Well, uh, it's
- 2:38Speaker 1: called Tease Me t a apostopheske Me Cafe. And honestly,
- 2:43Speaker 1: I got to Indiana. I got drafted from them to
- 2:45Speaker 1: the Indiana Fever and got to Indiana for a few years.
- 2:50Speaker 1: You know, I always would drink tea like that. What
- 2:52Speaker 1: we grew up my family, we grew up to drinking
- 2:54Speaker 1: tea and we had like little tea parties and all
- 2:56Speaker 1: of that. And so when I got here, really couple
- 3:00Speaker 1: of years in, somebody was like, oh, have you been
- 3:01Speaker 1: in an amazing place you called tse me and you
- 3:04Speaker 1: should go and check it out. And so literally it
- 3:06Speaker 1: became my favorite place to go. And I think the
- 3:09Speaker 1: biggest reason was because nobody in there really paid attention
- 3:13Speaker 1: to basketball, and it was just a place where I
- 3:15Speaker 1: could go in and chill. The vibe beyond Beyonce. Everything
- 3:18Speaker 1: was super fly. And then you played in the w
- 3:22Speaker 1: n B in for sixteen seasons, so you see you
- 3:25Speaker 1: went there like the second season that you like. I
- 3:28Speaker 1: think I started going to the shop probably in two
- 3:30Speaker 1: thousands and four, my last year. Yeah. So so when
- 3:35Speaker 1: did you take over ownership of it? I took over
- 3:39Speaker 1: the year after I retired. Okay, cool. So so this
- 3:42Speaker 1: is a new enterprise for you. It's a brand that
- 3:45Speaker 1: you've lived and been a fan of and so which
- 3:50Speaker 1: is what's really cool, Which means that you know what
- 3:52Speaker 1: you're walking into because a lot of athletes, they are recommended.
- 3:56Speaker 1: This is good, this will make you a lot of money.
- 3:58Speaker 1: But you knew this brand. You you're roughly fourteen years
- 4:01Speaker 1: in on this brand when you bought it. Yeah, and
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know, honestly, the interesting thing about it is he
- 4:09Speaker 1: was only open from eleven am to two thirty pm
- 4:15Speaker 1: Tuesdays through Saturday. He was open from eleven eleven am
- 4:20Speaker 1: to two thirty and so when I took over, one
- 4:22Speaker 1: of the first things was, we need to expand the hours,
- 4:25Speaker 1: like how do you make money from eleven am to
- 4:27Speaker 1: two thirty? And then for probably the first couple of months,
- 4:30Speaker 1: we literally would have nobody coming in the morning. Everybody
- 4:33Speaker 1: would come from eleven am to two thirty because they
- 4:36Speaker 1: it was like a mad like rush. But now, I mean,
- 4:39Speaker 1: obviously I've had it for a little over what twenty months,
- 4:42Speaker 1: exactly twenty months, I've had it, and it's awesome. I
- 4:45Speaker 1: love it. I love it. Now, what's all you're going there?
- 4:48Speaker 1: What is the experience? What makes it premier? You know?
- 4:51Speaker 1: You know, like I go go to places, say we got
- 4:53Speaker 1: the greatest Hamburg of all time. Here, the best hot
- 4:56Speaker 1: dog in this city, the best barbecue on the rack. Okay,
- 4:59Speaker 1: you at the premier t bar and cafe in Indianapolis?
- 5:03Speaker 1: Why should I go there? Little Miss was only open
- 5:06Speaker 1: for like three and a half hours a daytil you
- 5:08Speaker 1: came along. I think the biggest thing is that ambiance. Um,
- 5:13Speaker 1: you know, you walk in their whole experience of Shina.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Just great. You walk through the doors, you start like
- 5:19Speaker 1: when you come in. Our staff is amazing. This is
- 5:25Speaker 1: what y'all walking in with his wife who's who loves tea. Okay,
- 5:30Speaker 1: so walk us through the whole scenario. Welcome, Hello, good morning,
- 5:34Speaker 1: welcome to Tease Me Cafe. Is this your first time? Yes, yes,
- 5:38Speaker 1: we've been. We've come from Houston, Texas, and I heard
- 5:41Speaker 1: about this place and my wife, she's a tea junkie. Well,
- 5:46Speaker 1: we thank you guys for coming so much, and we have.
- 5:49Speaker 1: As you can see, we have a huge menu to
- 5:51Speaker 1: you have over forty six flavors. Don't be intimidated. We
- 5:54Speaker 1: will help you figure out which you like. But come
- 5:57Speaker 1: on in, make yourself at home. In order at the counter.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Any food in here? Any food? You have lots of food.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So we serve breakfast and we serve lunch. We're open
- 6:06Speaker 1: from seven am to five pm. Okay, I'm there Monday
- 6:09Speaker 1: to Saturday. There, why she's drinking tea. I'll help me
- 6:12Speaker 1: some food. Do you have desserts? Do you have dessert?
- 6:15Speaker 1: We have? We do have dessert. Thank you for asking
- 6:18Speaker 1: what what? What type of dessert? We have? Women cake,
- 6:20Speaker 1: We have carrot cake. We have carrot carrot cake. I'm there.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I love me some carrot cake. Give me a nice
- 6:28Speaker 1: little slice of carrot cake while she drinks her tea. Now,
- 6:31Speaker 1: how's this? How is how are the options brought to
- 6:33Speaker 1: the table or do you have to go to the
- 6:34Speaker 1: bar to make your selection? Because why I'm over to
- 6:36Speaker 1: eat my carrot cake? Is she gonna leave me to
- 6:39Speaker 1: go to the bar? Are they going to bring the
- 6:40Speaker 1: options to the table. We're gonna bring the tea to
- 6:43Speaker 1: you once you order at the counter, and you go
- 6:45Speaker 1: sit down and just pick your own spot in the
- 6:47Speaker 1: whole place. Sit down and enjoy the ambiance. Enjoy the music.
- 6:51Speaker 1: We always play a nice flood jazz, so you will
- 6:54Speaker 1: be right at home. Okay, So can I pick my
- 6:57Speaker 1: songs or the just just on a loop in the
- 7:01Speaker 1: loop loop loop music just being playing over and I'm
- 7:04Speaker 1: just enjoying the ambiance of my wife, you know, because
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know she she always, like she told old body
- 7:10Speaker 1: changes when she drinking tea like she drinking wine. You know,
- 7:14Speaker 1: people they're like, I'll be telling it ain't that good,
- 7:17Speaker 1: it ain't that good. But she's really is that good.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So so with that being said, so I'm in there,
- 7:26Speaker 1: so you have them in you let's let's let's backtrack,
- 7:29Speaker 1: you know. So I wanted to go through the experience
- 7:31Speaker 1: because when people hear things called t or T bar,
- 7:34Speaker 1: they think that's always there. You know what I'm saying.
- 7:36Speaker 1: But you're telling me, look, ros Sean, you can get
- 7:38Speaker 1: breakfast and there, launched dinner and there, your full service menu,
- 7:41Speaker 1: desserts is in there. So one when they go to
- 7:44Speaker 1: the website, if they if they're hungry coming there, correct, yeah, coming,
- 7:50Speaker 1: they're hungry coming. They're not hungry coming there, just for tea,
- 7:53Speaker 1: coming for dessert, come to hang out, come to study.
- 7:55Speaker 1: We get a lot of entrepreneurs, young entrepreneurs that are
- 7:59Speaker 1: just starting and so they're sitting in there. We got students,
- 8:02Speaker 1: we got professional young, I mean, we got everything. So
- 8:05Speaker 1: that means that means you got free WiFi in there.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Then we got gotta I gotta work with your girl.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I gotta, I gotta, I gotta get all your bonus
- 8:14Speaker 1: points out. I mean, you're gonna get together here, and
- 8:18Speaker 1: so you gotta you gotta come out front and say, hey,
- 8:20Speaker 1: we all were serving food here, free WiFi. You come
- 8:23Speaker 1: in here, hang out. See all those terms see and
- 8:27Speaker 1: all this because once people here to worry free WiFi.
- 8:31Speaker 1: They there because Stockbucks wins on free WiFi. I'll just
- 8:34Speaker 1: let you know they win on everybody like free stuff.
- 8:37Speaker 1: We get free samples here. And then you say you're
- 8:41Speaker 1: not a tea drinker, but I will say when you come,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you will have to not have to, but I think
- 8:47Speaker 1: you will be convinced to get a tea because you
- 8:50Speaker 1: will find something on our menu that you will like.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Let's talk about to make a catch. It's okay, let's
- 8:54Speaker 1: go back a little bit here because I'm a w
- 8:56Speaker 1: NBA fan. Let me just talk about let you guys
- 8:59Speaker 1: know who I'm talking to on the phone from an
- 9:00Speaker 1: athletic standpoint. Catching his legacy. It is smitted is one
- 9:05Speaker 1: of the greatest basketball players ever. She retired and from
- 9:10Speaker 1: w w A NBA. It's the number two score of
- 9:12Speaker 1: all time rebounder, all time rebounder already is career leader
- 9:16Speaker 1: and free throws and she got filed. A lot of
- 9:18Speaker 1: people happened on this young later been slapped around a
- 9:21Speaker 1: little bit. I'll just tell you, like, when you've been fired,
- 9:23Speaker 1: we have over two thousand free throws. You've been slapped
- 9:26Speaker 1: you've been hit, you've been knocked down, you got up mad.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Did you ever get into the fight to maker? Did
- 9:31Speaker 1: you know, you know, fighting aloud? You never, you never
- 9:34Speaker 1: nobody ever hit you so hard you just got up
- 9:36Speaker 1: and got in their faces, ran up on their chest.
- 9:38Speaker 1: You never did that. No, you just you know, you
- 9:40Speaker 1: figure out throughout the game to come back. See, I'll
- 9:45Speaker 1: tell you so, I'll tell you. I remember it was
- 9:47Speaker 1: a couple of players and we used to play for
- 9:49Speaker 1: the l A Sparks. They were there, they were just
- 9:52Speaker 1: they were basketball. You know what I'm talking about It
- 9:53Speaker 1: with thugs. They were put out there to hurt people.
- 9:57Speaker 1: You know, I know, you know I'm telling the truth.
- 9:59Speaker 1: You know, ain't got no talent out there just to file,
- 10:01Speaker 1: just to fire talent. You don't make it to the
- 10:04Speaker 1: WA Okay now all right, I'm telling they got a
- 10:08Speaker 1: talent now. But you know what I'm saying, there as
- 10:10Speaker 1: some people out there, just like in the NBA, there's
- 10:12Speaker 1: some of what they call players out there, just like
- 10:14Speaker 1: in hockey, their job is just to you know, disrupt
- 10:17Speaker 1: the talented player. So Tamika Catching is one of those
- 10:20Speaker 1: talented players, and so sometimes out there they go you
- 10:24Speaker 1: know something. We're just gonna file her and get her mad.
- 10:26Speaker 1: And he trying to throw off our game? Am I
- 10:28Speaker 1: telling the truth? Not to me? You're gonna mess over
- 10:33Speaker 1: ra Sean McDonald might have made a conversation. You know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I know you got the hottest T spot in Indiapolis,
- 10:38Speaker 1: But I know my game. Because see, see this is
- 10:40Speaker 1: gonna be about to become a sad story for Rushan
- 10:42Speaker 1: McDonald because see I'm from Houston, Texas. The greatest w
- 10:47Speaker 1: NBA team of all time does not exist in the
- 10:50Speaker 1: w NBA anymore. That's the Houston Comics. Yeah, the greatest.
- 10:56Speaker 1: It was definitely a sad day when we let them go.
- 11:00Speaker 1: The great thing is that we have the memories, we
- 11:02Speaker 1: know the history. You're right, the greatest team players to
- 11:07Speaker 1: Maka Thompson who just was inducted into back as teacher Thompson,
- 11:12Speaker 1: who was just inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame.
- 11:16Speaker 1: You had Cynthia Cooper. It was an amazing run of success.
- 11:22Speaker 1: They launched the w n B A and I'm still
- 11:25Speaker 1: a big fan of this boy. Let me, before we
- 11:27Speaker 1: go to our next break, give me an assessment where
- 11:30Speaker 1: you think, well you feel the w n b A
- 11:32Speaker 1: is right now from a global perspective and from a
- 11:36Speaker 1: domestic perspective because the championship game they had this one
- 11:39Speaker 1: was one by Seattle, right, think Seattle wanted to be
- 11:41Speaker 1: here with some bird thirteen years in and I think
- 11:45Speaker 1: that's Brittany from from a UK. We understood my basketball.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I'm just off the top of the dome to make
- 11:53Speaker 1: up you Lloyd. Yeah, the whole squad, Natasha Howard's got
- 11:57Speaker 1: six Man of the Year. I mean they had Brianna
- 11:59Speaker 1: like to say at m v P. But I think
- 12:01Speaker 1: when you look at the league overall, I mean we
- 12:03Speaker 1: are standing strong and um, you know, I think a
- 12:06Speaker 1: lot of people are like, oh, the w n b A,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you go back to the beginning. W n b A
- 12:10Speaker 1: will not not make it. Now we're here celebrating twenty
- 12:13Speaker 1: two years in the w I know here in Indiana
- 12:15Speaker 1: will be celebrating twenty years or twenty year anniversary next year.
- 12:19Speaker 1: So super excited about that. But yeah, I think that
- 12:22Speaker 1: the numbers. You you look at the players that are
- 12:24Speaker 1: playing now, and I mean the w K my freshman
- 12:28Speaker 1: year in college. So it wasn't something that I aspired
- 12:31Speaker 1: be from when I was in third grade. I really
- 12:34Speaker 1: wanted to make it to the w n B A
- 12:35Speaker 1: but now you have players that have had that they
- 12:39Speaker 1: started from the day that they were born, coming to
- 12:41Speaker 1: the w game, being able to be a part of it,
- 12:44Speaker 1: having a dream, having a goal, and now they're here.
- 12:46Speaker 1: So I then when you look at it from that perspective,
- 12:49Speaker 1: it's it's really cool to hear a lot of the
- 12:52Speaker 1: story from the players. So I watch you when out
- 12:53Speaker 1: in third grade, It's like, Okay, that really makes me old,
- 12:56Speaker 1: But you know what, they're here and that's all that matters,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and so it really is a lot. I think when
- 13:02Speaker 1: you look at the global aspect of the game, a
- 13:04Speaker 1: lot of our players are overseas right now playing and
- 13:07Speaker 1: so are we having the competitions like the men the
- 13:10Speaker 1: games overseas and doing all that taking our w NBA
- 13:14Speaker 1: teams over she used to play, No, not yet, but
- 13:17Speaker 1: we are having our players distributed throughout different teams. I
- 13:20Speaker 1: played in China. We're gonna be right back with more
- 13:23Speaker 1: money making conversations. I want to talk about, you know,
- 13:26Speaker 1: being an ambassador se ESPN Women's basketball analysts, a lot
- 13:31Speaker 1: of things she's doing outside of just being an entrepreneur.
- 13:37Speaker 1: ID Sean McDonald, you're back listening to money making conversations.
- 13:41Speaker 1: My guest was on the phone, big fan. She's a
- 13:44Speaker 1: champion to meet. I gotta I got my daughter. She's
- 13:48Speaker 1: my only child as a daughter. So anytime I see
- 13:51Speaker 1: an individual like my guests to make a catch and
- 13:53Speaker 1: I I feel that it's important that she's a rollmark.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Even though even though even though she doesn't know it,
- 13:58Speaker 1: you know, I can put I can put her picture
- 14:01Speaker 1: in front of my daughters and you could be her.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And I think that's the social media allows you to
- 14:05Speaker 1: do that. Even more so, I feel that athletes are
- 14:09Speaker 1: played even a bigger role I to make. I want
- 14:11Speaker 1: to ask you the question about but the role of
- 14:15Speaker 1: the male athlete and the female athlete in sports, because
- 14:20Speaker 1: I I have to believe that male athletes, they're they're athletic,
- 14:27Speaker 1: there's a tremendous amount of money that they can make
- 14:29Speaker 1: from depending on the sport that they choose from their
- 14:32Speaker 1: skill set. That's not always the case for the female athlete.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And so what drives you, Like you said, you know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: your goal when you started playing basketball in middle school
- 14:45Speaker 1: in high school was not to be a part of
- 14:46Speaker 1: the w NBA because it didn't exist. So what drives
- 14:50Speaker 1: you when you're talking to young girls? Who are? You know?
- 14:54Speaker 1: Title nine opened up so many opportunities for the female
- 14:58Speaker 1: in uh, you know, collegiate sports. What what what what drives
- 15:01Speaker 1: you when you speak to the young young women. I
- 15:05Speaker 1: think the biggest thing is dreams do come true. And me,
- 15:08Speaker 1: you talked about me not wanting to be in the
- 15:10Speaker 1: w NBA, but my goal in seventh grade was to
- 15:12Speaker 1: be in the n B A right and follow my
- 15:14Speaker 1: dad footsteps and so really having the people around me
- 15:18Speaker 1: that encouraged me and pushed me. But I think my
- 15:21Speaker 1: inner motivation was really the thing. I will be successful
- 15:25Speaker 1: and I will make it to the NBA. And that
- 15:27Speaker 1: was just like nobody could tell me anything different until
- 15:31Speaker 1: the w came and then you know, my goal shifted.
- 15:33Speaker 1: But I really when I talked to young girls and
- 15:36Speaker 1: even young boys now you know, I I talked about
- 15:39Speaker 1: just the dedication and the commitment it takes to reaching
- 15:42Speaker 1: your goal and really having a true belief that whatever
- 15:46Speaker 1: you dream you can do it, but you have to
- 15:49Speaker 1: work hard. I can't do it for you, you have
- 15:51Speaker 1: to do it for yourself. Now, you wrote a book
- 15:56Speaker 1: in our autobiographical book, your start, shouting through adversity to
- 16:02Speaker 1: become a champion, sharing your story overcoming hearing loss, you know, um,
- 16:08Speaker 1: separation from family, high expectation, and the pain of physical injuries.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Now I was joking earlier about all those files. What
- 16:16Speaker 1: people don't understand is that you know when you run,
- 16:19Speaker 1: when you're running up and down on the hard floor,
- 16:21Speaker 1: but this is a harf jumping up and down on
- 16:23Speaker 1: the hard floor. Your body talks back to you in
- 16:26Speaker 1: many ways. Talk to us about, you know, sixteen years
- 16:31Speaker 1: in the NBA and w n b A, what what
- 16:34Speaker 1: what pushed you through the painful moments and what pushed
- 16:37Speaker 1: you emotionally? What was your focus point to get you
- 16:40Speaker 1: to play every year, to get to train every year,
- 16:43Speaker 1: to overcome that injury that I guess what I want to?
- 16:46Speaker 1: I want to. I want to I want to take
- 16:48Speaker 1: that risk again to be able to experience the sport
- 16:50Speaker 1: that I love. Talk to us about that when you
- 16:53Speaker 1: love what you do, it's not really of its and
- 16:56Speaker 1: I think that can apply not only to sports and basketball,
- 16:58Speaker 1: but even now to life and not the things that
- 17:00Speaker 1: I have going on. I genuinely love walking on waking
- 17:05Speaker 1: up every day and going to whichever job, whichever role
- 17:08Speaker 1: I'm playing. And I think that as a basketball player,
- 17:11Speaker 1: no matter how many times I got hurt, it's just
- 17:14Speaker 1: like you blust yourself off. You get through the rehab
- 17:16Speaker 1: first injury to my ah L. Then I told my
- 17:19Speaker 1: Achilles and told my MFL book my nose, the book
- 17:22Speaker 1: of my fingers. I mean, it's you just keep going
- 17:25Speaker 1: because of the love of what you do and the
- 17:27Speaker 1: passion that you have for something. Okay, Achilles, a c
- 17:32Speaker 1: L broke your nose, broke your finger, but you keep going.
- 17:39Speaker 1: But you keep going because because because the Achilles, that's
- 17:43Speaker 1: you know that that there's no guarantee you can never
- 17:46Speaker 1: come back from that a c L. My daughter she
- 17:49Speaker 1: couldn't play tennis anymore because she tour, she's on professional
- 17:52Speaker 1: tour as a tennis player, and she tore her a
- 17:55Speaker 1: c L. And she never returned to the sport. She's
- 17:57Speaker 1: you know, just just that rehabilitation just freaked her out.
- 18:00Speaker 1: You know, she was literally taken aback because they didn't
- 18:03Speaker 1: tell her. Because people don't understand that there's a lot
- 18:06Speaker 1: of pain that go that a lot of people don't
- 18:08Speaker 1: know because athletes, you know, athletes really in some ways
- 18:11Speaker 1: they make it if they if people really knew what
- 18:14Speaker 1: an athlete had to do, especially when they got when
- 18:17Speaker 1: when one is injured, they had appreciate and say, look,
- 18:20Speaker 1: pay that person whatever they're do. Because to see my daughter,
- 18:25Speaker 1: she she suffered weight loss when she had an A
- 18:27Speaker 1: c L injury. I was afraid she never gained her
- 18:30Speaker 1: way back. Um, you know the whole period. You know
- 18:33Speaker 1: what I'm talking about with a c L. You know,
- 18:34Speaker 1: I mean just just just just amazing amount of pain
- 18:38Speaker 1: just comes to your knee out there. What kind of
- 18:39Speaker 1: drugs you're taken. You can't ask that that pain and
- 18:42Speaker 1: the fact that you came back from that knowing and
- 18:46Speaker 1: it would not say that because it can't happen again.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Like fences. Uh, Deshaun Watson, you know he has had
- 18:53Speaker 1: knee injuries on both his knees, left it right, So
- 18:56Speaker 1: there's no guarantees that it cannot happen again, but you
- 19:00Speaker 1: hopefully in pray that it doesn't happen again. In your occase,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you know you had the A c L, you had
- 19:05Speaker 1: the achilles and then you had the broken nose. We
- 19:07Speaker 1: know we can play through that. Just throw a mask
- 19:09Speaker 1: on finger. We can deal with that. So because you
- 19:12Speaker 1: will continue to play when you was able to continue
- 19:14Speaker 1: to play with those injuries, but there was other two
- 19:17Speaker 1: you couldn't. So talk to me about that process of
- 19:20Speaker 1: getting through that, well, I think it's the mental aspect
- 19:24Speaker 1: that you have to really focus on then. And I
- 19:26Speaker 1: remember that was the first my A c L was
- 19:29Speaker 1: my first real injury. My senior year in high school
- 19:32Speaker 1: or my senior in college. The w n B A draft.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Literally it happened to me and Martin Luther King junior day,
- 19:37Speaker 1: the w n B A drafted. Three months down the road.
- 19:41Speaker 1: There's no way I can play, and this is something
- 19:43Speaker 1: that I've dreamed about since I was in seventh grade.
- 19:46Speaker 1: So imagine the thoughts go into your mind with that
- 19:49Speaker 1: that itself, and then of course I got drafted by Indiana,
- 19:52Speaker 1: came up here, and you know, more than anything for me,
- 19:55Speaker 1: it's just a mental like the mental drain that it
- 19:57Speaker 1: puts on't you because physically you're gonna go through rehab
- 20:01Speaker 1: and you're gonna do all of that and there's gonna
- 20:03Speaker 1: be time even throughout the process. I'm sure your daughter
- 20:06Speaker 1: felt there. You feel like you can do more and
- 20:08Speaker 1: the doctor is holding you back or whoever you're doing,
- 20:11Speaker 1: and they're saying, no, you're not ready, but you feel
- 20:14Speaker 1: like I can do it. And then when you try
- 20:16Speaker 1: to do something, when they finally clue you and you're
- 20:19Speaker 1: trying to do something that you're so used to do
- 20:21Speaker 1: it and you can't do it the way you're used to.
- 20:24Speaker 1: You're in your mind you're already playing like I'm never
- 20:27Speaker 1: gonna be as good as I was, I'm never gonna
- 20:29Speaker 1: do this, I'm never gonna be able to do the
- 20:30Speaker 1: things that I was able to do before, and really
- 20:33Speaker 1: having to push yourself through that mentality like that is
- 20:37Speaker 1: the hardest thing. But when you get beyond that, then
- 20:40Speaker 1: you start growing. You know, at the growth level that
- 20:42Speaker 1: you go through, Like when you get beyond that and
- 20:44Speaker 1: you come back and you're able to do some of
- 20:46Speaker 1: the things that you're able to do before, and then
- 20:48Speaker 1: more you know, it's like you finally get to that
- 20:51Speaker 1: go through that process, but it definitely makes you grow
- 20:54Speaker 1: as a player. It makes you appreciate your sport more,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and then it just makes you an all around better
- 20:59Speaker 1: player and person. I think you now you're a basketball
- 21:02Speaker 1: analyst for SEC, which is the dominant I think the
- 21:06Speaker 1: athletic conference and all who ya the great uh oh
- 21:13Speaker 1: my god. See you bring back so many memories because
- 21:17Speaker 1: you know the Tennessee program. Of course, you know Yukon
- 21:20Speaker 1: is the dominant program now, but that Tennessee program. Wow, Yes,
- 21:25Speaker 1: the class that Pat brought to that program was amazing.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I'm sad that she's not here today, but but a
- 21:32Speaker 1: tremendous fan, a tremendous leader, a tremendous a person who
- 21:37Speaker 1: again um turning her health. We're talking about the former
- 21:40Speaker 1: culture of the of the volunteers that uh team so quickly.
- 21:45Speaker 1: It really caught me by surprise because because you know,
- 21:48Speaker 1: when you when you admire people like her, then you
- 21:52Speaker 1: appreciate because she turned out wonderful women want to see
- 21:56Speaker 1: the whole thing about when when people came through a program.
- 21:59Speaker 1: And I'm saying that's that happened that you call it
- 22:02Speaker 1: wasn't a basketball which is skilled that the ladies that
- 22:05Speaker 1: you you as individuals you had, she shaped individuals beyond basketball.
- 22:10Speaker 1: And that's just me just seeing that. But am I
- 22:13Speaker 1: wrong and making an assessment about Yeah, that was way
- 22:16Speaker 1: more than basketball. And I mean, you just talked about
- 22:19Speaker 1: all the things you don't even really talk about basketball
- 22:21Speaker 1: you just talked about the class that she had, and
- 22:24Speaker 1: I think you know, I always say that when we
- 22:26Speaker 1: went to the when going to Tennessee, I mean, Pat
- 22:28Speaker 1: always preach We're gonna be great on the basketball court,
- 22:31Speaker 1: We're gonna be great in the classroom, We're gonna be
- 22:33Speaker 1: great in the community. But beyond all of that, I
- 22:36Speaker 1: want you guys to be great people. Great lady giving
- 22:40Speaker 1: to the society, you know, like give, give, give, And
- 22:43Speaker 1: when you watch the way that she lives her life,
- 22:46Speaker 1: everything that she did, she gave, and that just even
- 22:49Speaker 1: for me. Now every day I go out and I
- 22:52Speaker 1: live and I'm able to do all the cool things.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I think about what can I give? How can I
- 22:58Speaker 1: create impact to every single person that I come into
- 23:01Speaker 1: contact with? And you do and I've seen that sixteen
- 23:06Speaker 1: years of being in the NBA have been a leader,
- 23:09Speaker 1: being a person who is now in the professional world.
- 23:12Speaker 1: How was that transition, Like, you know, when you walked
- 23:14Speaker 1: away from the game that dominated you, that brought so
- 23:16Speaker 1: much love and some pain to your life, how did
- 23:19Speaker 1: you make that transition? Let's talk about that for a minute. Yeah,
- 23:23Speaker 1: it's it's scary at first because you're so used to
- 23:26Speaker 1: mean you talk a lot about just being regimented and
- 23:29Speaker 1: being consistent, Like you got up a fourth fifteen. I'm
- 23:31Speaker 1: sure you get up every day at four fifteen. How
- 23:34Speaker 1: you live your life? And I can literally tell you
- 23:38Speaker 1: verbating my schedule for not just sixteen years of the pro,
- 23:41Speaker 1: but even beyond before that with college and before that
- 23:44Speaker 1: with high school and junior, Like I had a schedule
- 23:48Speaker 1: for my whole life. And as soon as you retire,
- 23:52Speaker 1: it's like, Okay, you wake up the next day and
- 23:53Speaker 1: you're like, Okay, I'm gonna rest for a few days.
- 23:56Speaker 1: But then after two or three days, you're to your
- 24:00Speaker 1: program to get up, get to the gym, get your
- 24:03Speaker 1: shots up, do your weight, through this, through that. And
- 24:06Speaker 1: so now I don't have that. And not only do
- 24:08Speaker 1: I not have that, I don't have I don't know
- 24:10Speaker 1: what's gonna be next. And so I mean, at first,
- 24:13Speaker 1: you go through that fear, oh my gosh, like am
- 24:16Speaker 1: I show that I don't want to play anymore? But
- 24:19Speaker 1: I kind of went through that for a little bit,
- 24:20Speaker 1: not really that much because I was ready and my
- 24:23Speaker 1: body was ready. But after that it was just like, Okay,
- 24:26Speaker 1: what am I good at? Like what kind of what
- 24:28Speaker 1: else can I do. And that's what's really cool about
- 24:31Speaker 1: my job now is really being a position to talk
- 24:35Speaker 1: to players while they're playing about taking advantage of all
- 24:39Speaker 1: of the relationships and networking. And yeah, when you're finished,
- 24:44Speaker 1: people up away for you. Jamika, I gotta I got
- 24:49Speaker 1: my wrapping up, and I want to say thank you
- 24:51Speaker 1: for making this called Tease Me Cafe in Indiapolis is
