- 0:03Alan Carroll: Welcome back to another episode of the mindful
- 0:08you podcast. I'm Alan Carroll. And I have the privilege and the
- 0:16fun of being a host in the space of mindfulness. And we get to
- 0:23listen to various people who have chosen various paths in
- 0:30order to contribute the benefits of mindfulness to the world
- 0:35around them. And today, neuron. Tillman is our guest neuron.
- 0:48Interesting. He born and raised Queens, New York outside of
- 0:54Manhattan, tough environment, violent environment, crime and
- 1:02crime environment, drug environment, addiction
- 1:06environment, noise environment, always moving always loud, boom,
- 1:10boom, boom, boom, boom. And he transformed out of that
- 1:18environment, through the practice of meditation through
- 1:23the practice of yoga, practice of breathing, practice of
- 1:28mindfulness. And then he got connected with Deepak Chopra,
- 1:34his foundation of bringing this dimension of healing, the yoga,
- 1:39the meditation and the breathing into the inner city schools,
- 1:44where the agitation is extreme. And he shared a story in the
- 1:49beginning that he came to the principals of schools of nine
- 1:52and it won't work around here. They can't, they can't sit still
- 1:58for and do things like that they're always moving. And so
- 2:02what he did is he started the mindful exercises with body
- 2:06movement, and entered into that stillness, exercise. And he
- 2:10said, after a series of lessons, the group who was always
- 2:17agitated, was able to actually close her eyes and become still
- 2:23for 10 minutes. And that was a major breakthrough that
- 2:27disrupted the automaticity of their life. So they begin to
- 2:32wake up and begin to have more of a choice. And then he talks
- 2:35about how it affects the physical body, and the health of
- 2:39the physical body. So he's sharing and plot Plus, he's also
- 2:43a preacher, from the Pentecostal direction, and a lot of energy
- 2:50in that church. And so he's able to bring in flavors of
- 2:54Christianity, the wisdom of the Bible, the result of the
- 2:57Christianity point of view, and tied in with a mindfulness point
- 3:01of view. And he said, After practicing mindfulness and
- 3:04meditation for 11 years, his understanding of the Scriptures
- 3:09has totally changed. Totally changed. What he was looking at
- 3:15the scriptures 11 years ago, and now what he sees is different,
- 3:19as he has attained that state of mindfulness. So it was fun
- 3:24talking with neuron. And I'm sure that you will also enjoy
- 3:27his talking, and how he brings the healing Enos of mindfulness
- 3:34not only to the inner city schools, but to all over all
- 3:38over to corporations to foundations in order to bring
- 3:42that healing energy to those people who has a lot of
- 3:46agitation and need to become more still. So please welcome
- 3:54neuron, Tillman to the mindful you, podcast. And who am I
- 4:02clapping for? I'm clapping for neuron. Tillman. And why am I
- 4:05clapping today for the Ron Tillman, I'll tell you why. He
- 4:09has spent the last 11 years playing in a space that is not a
- 4:15comfortable space. And, and he's been able to bring mindfulness,
- 4:20the tools of mindfulness, the healing of mindfulness into a
- 4:24space, which is, as as he described to me is, I would say,
- 4:30a lot of agitation. And mindfulness is about stillness.
- 4:34So anybody who can bring stillness, into a space of
- 4:38agitation is a healer, healing that suffering that is caused by
- 4:43the agitation. So I have today ladies and gentlemen, a healer,
- 4:47a healer from New York City, and his name is neurone. Tillman, I
- 4:52want to welcome you and also thank you, neuron for the work
- 4:55that you're doing, and environments that are that are
- 4:59in need. he'd have work like that. So I'd like to pass the
- 5:03baton or pass the mic over to you. And have you described a
- 5:07little bit about who you are and how you got to do what you're
- 5:11doing. And really, I was just going to be fun to hear you
- 5:14talk, because to bring healing into that environment is a gift
- 5:18from God. So go ahead and introduce.
- 5:22NaRon Tillman: Thank you, Alan, for having me on. take delight
- 5:25in being able to share with you and audience about mindfulness
- 5:30in the work that we do. I'm a pastor have been pastoring for
- 5:362015 years. I've been preaching since I was 24. I just turned
- 5:4048. So 24 years. And it's a it's a weird Road, me learning
- 5:49mindfulness. I'm from a Pentecostal background. And
- 5:53during Hurricane Sandy, I met my teacher, Eddie Stern, who
- 5:59happens to be working in a community that I grew up in that
- 6:02was hard hit by Sandy. And he brought me in as a mentor to
- 6:05work with some new for young adults in another area of
- 6:08Queens. And it would teach them yoga and mindfulness. And I said
- 6:13to myself, that part of Queens, I got to see this. So I went,
- 6:20and I kept coming back, and I kept coming back. And that was
- 6:23about 11 or 12 years ago. And I started out as a mentor to them,
- 6:28just bringing them basic mentorship. So they were
- 6:32teaching the best of mindfulness practices to youth and young
- 6:36adults through Deepak Chopra, his vision and Eric afford
- 6:41revision. So
- 6:42Alan Carroll: let's, let's just slow down that because that's
- 6:44the I'm not too familiar with Erica, but I'm definitely
- 6:47familiar with Deepak. So so go ahead and share with our
- 6:50audience who may not know who Deepak Chopra is. So
- 6:54Unknown: Deepak Chopra is a world renowned mindset coach, I
- 6:58call him but he's a scientist. And he, and he, and he's really
- 7:02beneficial. And bringing all of this together. We went, we'd
- 7:07have some certification and meditation through the Chopra
- 7:09Foundation, and, and all of that, and this was his
- 7:12brainchild. He met Erica and Erica was angry because of gun
- 7:16violence. And she was saying nobody's doing anything. And
- 7:19then he calls the question, did you try meditation. And she was
- 7:24like, if you helped me get a program, I'll try meditation.
- 7:28And he helped build the program. 11 years later, we have urban
- 7:32Yogi's. And, and it was a beautiful thing. So we started
- 7:37out in that area. And from that journey from that beginning,
- 7:41from that seed being planted, me being a preacher just saying to
- 7:45myself, that these guys are not going to do meditation in the
- 7:48middle of the projects, because we were in a house with they
- 7:52call it housing projects. And I'm watching them do it. And I'm
- 7:55watching them come back weekend and week out. And I started to
- 7:59practice,
- 8:01Alan Carroll: you started to practice the yoga and
- 8:03meditation. I
- 8:04Unknown: started to practice yoga and meditation, I was doing
- 8:07meditation, I thought I was doing yoga. And when I started
- 8:11practicing, I realized that I didn't know anything about
- 8:14meditation, anything about you. And it got me deeper into the
- 8:18practice. And they opened up my mindset, to the possibilities of
- 8:25real using imagination and stuff. And what really helped me
- 8:30to get deeper into the practice. And I didn't start teaching just
- 8:34yet. I was mentoring them on lifestyle, stuff I had about
- 8:41like high blood pressure. And I used to go into the schools and
- 8:46sell the program to the schools. And I'm telling the schools
- 8:50about all the wonderful benefits of this program, right? helps to
- 8:53bring down hypertension, it helps to bring down helps to
- 8:57broaden the focus, it helps to do this, it helps to do that.
- 8:59And I got in my car and I was like, I'm here, I was taking
- 9:03this medicine. And it was making me feel lethargic. And I was
- 9:07like I'm telling them that all these benefits that mindfulness
- 9:10meditation and yoga does, and I'm not even really living out
- 9:14to benefits. Right, right. Yeah.
- 9:18Alan Carroll: Absolutely.
- 9:20Unknown: Four days a week, hour and a half day, sometimes five
- 9:23days will be blood pressure change, everything's started.
- 9:30Life started looking different from for me, my understanding of
- 9:35Scripture, I will meditate on Scripture as my understanding
- 9:37for scripture starting broader so now I can really I became
- 9:44engrossed in the thing that I was saying that was going to
- 9:47help you for young adult. I realized that it can help me to
- 9:52Alan Carroll: just not nice
- 9:55Unknown: as teaching and it's it's been a it's been a
- 9:58wonderful journey. We've been We've been highlighted on Good
- 10:01Morning America, local news. For the work that we do, we've
- 10:06worked with Sonim Foundation, bring we were able to bring yoga
- 10:13in schools we, because we had a foundation behind us. And so in
- 10:17California, we were able to fight against the institution
- 10:22that said yoga was a religion. And, and it wanted to ban yoga
- 10:27and mindfulness work from schools. So we've been able to
- 10:29be a product that's
- 10:30Alan Carroll: in California, they were talking about that.
- 10:33Yes, California is usually the people that are the leading edge
- 10:37of yoga and meditation, not the ones that are gay
- 10:41Unknown: in San Francisco, but Sao Paulo walks out, they
- 10:45wonder, one of the mothers was, was a devout Christian and she
- 10:49viewed yoga, like we were, we were trying to teach religion,
- 10:55the religion of yoga, indoctrinate their child with
- 10:59yoga practices. We work with NFL three play 60 in Kansas City and
- 11:05the Kansas City Chiefs. We've done a lot with the Chicago
- 11:10Bulls Foundation, Hilton foundation. So we've, we've been
- 11:13able to move from just focusing in on in a city, and our slogan
- 11:21was healthy, happy kids, to now yoga is for everybody. It
- 11:24doesn't matter. If you're a kid, if you're in school, whatever
- 11:28your yoga is for everybody, and mindfulness. And a mindful work
- 11:33is for everyone.
- 11:35Alan Carroll: Boy, what a what a mission, that you're on what
- 11:39your being a preacher to being a preacher of wanting, wanting to
- 11:43preach, wanting to spread the word out. So you get to choose
- 11:46what words that you want to spread. And if you're spreading
- 11:50the words of mindfulness in the words of meditation and the
- 11:53words of yoga and the words of spirituality and Deepak Chopra,
- 11:57and, and this this, this space, represents a big, big, powerful
- 12:05energy of stillness. And boy, that's a good way of describing
- 12:12because people become in meditation, let's talk about
- 12:16Alright, so now we got 11 years of research. What? So yeah, so
- 12:21what what has changed? What what has changed in the statistics of
- 12:26my mathematician scientific Deepak Chopra? Okay, so how many
- 12:29students did this what Jade? Sure, show me some facts, you
- 12:32know, in Iran, and maybe I'll donate some money.
- 12:35Unknown: So when we go into a school, right? You have, you
- 12:40have this different dynamic. We learned about in church, we call
- 12:47it sin, sin, sin, inherited sin, but in science, they call it
- 12:51negative bias, right? I grew up in New housing projects, but
- 12:54Alan Carroll: it's not in science. They call it what
- 12:57negative
- 12:58Unknown: bias negative bias and get we link, our thought process
- 13:03leads to more negative influence more negative impressions, more
- 13:08so than positive impressions.
- 13:09Alan Carroll: So sin would be towards the negative side. The
- 13:14other side all right, I got it. All right, negative thoughts and
- 13:20all right, sort
- 13:21Unknown: of negative thoughts. But imagine growing up in an
- 13:24environment where it is a food desert. Violence, you become
- 13:29numb to sex you become numb to addictions, whether is drug
- 13:36addictions, alcohol addictions, that all this is all at your,
- 13:40that you're inundated with all day. So your first impressions
- 13:43that are in your mind are all of these compounding biases are
- 13:48compounding things that tells you that these are okay, this is
- 13:51okay to just punch somebody in the face to just take something
- 13:55that don't belong to you to do because you're in survival mode.
- 13:59And then what we ingest actually helps to trigger these these
- 14:06biases or these things that now become our through our
- 14:10subconscious thought process. This becomes our auto Matic
- 14:14motion. This is what we do. So when I go into school, and I say
- 14:20to principal, we do yoga, I'm going to bring up the first
- 14:23thing that the principal said, our kids want to do that. So
- 14:27when we when we're able to get a youth or young adult at a
- 14:32certain age, we can start to slow down the process and you
- 14:35start to see them come into life. I think you're frozen. On
- 14:43Alan Carroll: here I'm frozen. It's not frozen as Mesmer is
- 14:47mesmerized. You're so relevant.
- 14:54Unknown: So Alan, you start to see them coming to life, right?
- 14:56You start to you start to see people doing moves Bringing back
- 15:00the child like mindset, you start to see them passing
- 15:04classes because they can sit down and focus, you start to get
- 15:09them to keep quiet. So when I when I, when I go into a
- 15:12classroom, and imagine now all of that now in the education
- 15:15system, there's 35 to 40 kids in the class in these communities.
- 15:19So I have to start with trying to get them to be quiet for one
- 15:23minute. The reason why we use movement and and because I was a
- 15:27kid who couldn't sit still. So I said, we have to have movement
- 15:31we have to do, because I've worked with other organizations
- 15:34that just wanted to do breathing and meditation, like you can't
- 15:37go into a community of people that always move in and then
- 15:40tell them to sit down. So the movement and the breath work
- 15:44with the movement, gets them move, gets them up, gets them
- 15:48going. Now if I can get them to be quiet for a minute to shut
- 15:51down the computer, and I can start putting in some of these
- 15:55positive affirmations. For one, every negative thought think of
- 15:59three positive thoughts to reinforce that. Get them
- 16:02breathing in the nostrils, touching the brain, given the
- 16:06breadth of color, for when you breathe in, and light color, and
- 16:10fill it like filling your body like a balloon when you breathe
- 16:13out a dark color. And that darkness is the violence that
- 16:16you think if I can get them to just start to listen to their
- 16:21own subconscious thoughts. So a lot of times I get them to
- 16:24listen to what is your most dominant thought and thinking
- 16:28about food, I think, and you should hear some of the stuff
- 16:30that people blurt out because they are so uncomfortable. We
- 16:33are so uncomfortable being silent, because we grow up in
- 16:36this environment where it's always noise. The gunshots the
- 16:42music is loud. The TV is loud, we we talk to each other, we
- 16:46play cards, we talk loud, we go to a party is noise noise noise.
- 16:50Now I'm saying and even in church, everything is loud.
- 16:58Someone are coming out, say everybody just be quiet.
- 17:05Somebody's gotta make a fart sound or do something because
- 17:09they can't sit in silence. But then six months in, it's moved
- 17:14from a minute. And I put that time. And I'm like, wow, I got
- 17:19them to sit for 10 minutes in silence. No fart silence. No
- 17:27biting, wiggling, nobody touching the person next to
- 17:30them. Nobody trying to whisper it's a powerful thing.
- 17:36Alan Carroll: You bet. You bet. The ability to become still, you
- 17:47point you make so many points about the environment that I
- 17:51don't live in the environment that you described. I tried to
- 17:55live in an environment where Superman lived on Antarctica
- 17:59called the Fortress of Solitude. I want to I want to close the
- 18:03door, I want to eliminate all noise. I want to get the most
- 18:08stillness environment that I can possibly get. And if you have
- 18:11any connections to the university, I think it's
- 18:15Berkeley has a room that is so quiet. That you know maybe it's
- 18:21Salt Lake City, you can hear your breath. And it's so loud
- 18:24because the room is so that stillness, the way you described
- 18:29it. What I loved about it was it's doable. It's doable. It's
- 18:37not. It's not woowoo. Maybe you can't No. Notice that every
- 18:45thought that you think there's no there's no space at all,
- 18:49between the thoughts that you speak. And there's no space
- 18:52between the thoughts that you think. So if we can disrupt
- 18:55that, if we can, if we can do a disruptive technology to the
- 18:59pattern of the speaking by inserting emptiness and silence
- 19:07between the sounds, to have the realization that there is an
- 19:12empty space between this sound and this sound, and that opens
- 19:21the portal that allows you to drop into that space of sea of
- 19:27emptiness. That is that that reduces the suffering that
- 19:32you're experiencing on the surface in the storm. And so you
- 19:35are calming the waters. And Jesus did that. I believe
- 19:39somewhere in the scriptures. You are leading us beside the still
- 19:43waters. You are guiding us you are demonstrating what what what
- 19:48in Christianity they've written all over the place, but you're
- 19:51able to bring that healing the Spirit of God into the schools
- 19:56now. Watch out with that one. Because people are gonna say no
- 20:00Religion in the schools will religion is. Religion is
- 20:03spiritual healing, the purpose of religion is to, to bring
- 20:07peace, stillness. So anyway, you got to do that. And boy,
- 20:12wonderful things you've been doing. This is great.
- 20:15Congratulations.
- 20:17Unknown: Thank you. So we started working. I work with a
- 20:21few churches now. And they're seniors, and trying to bring
- 20:25back motion and movement. But we use breathwork, silence and
- 20:29meditation and visualization. I've learned over the last few
- 20:34years, talking to some of my quantum physics buddies, about
- 20:39the power of visualization, about the power of futuristic
- 20:43thinking, and how that is actually helping with, with the
- 20:48work that we've already been doing. The great thing about
- 20:51energy. And the great thing about the laws of attraction is
- 20:53if you start putting something in motion, gotta bring people in
- 20:57your path that help you move forward and give you great ideas
- 21:02to help you with the work that you're doing. So with our
- 21:06seniors, we were talking about, again, and communities that we
- 21:16eat, we may have bad diets, fried chicken, collard greens,
- 21:20and all that stuff. Stuff that brings inflammation in the body,
- 21:24stuff that causes disease to fester in the body, stuff that
- 21:27causes our limbs to tighten up and there, there's no motion,
- 21:30there's no proper breath work, there's no so I spit in our, in
- 21:35some facilities, working with senior citizens. And we talk
- 21:40about breathwork. And I can say to them, be mindful. Now how can
- 21:44I say, these are in church context, because of me, being a
- 21:47pastor, I know how the scriptures now look different to
- 21:52me than I did when I first started pastoring.
- 21:54Alan Carroll: Give me an example. Show me that you have
- 21:56one in mind that has a new revelation to it.
- 21:59Unknown: Yes. So the Bible says Be anxious for nothing. But in
- 22:04all things to prayer and supplication, let your requests
- 22:07be made known to God thinks on those things. Don't think of the
- 22:13thing that makes you anxious. So that Be anxious for nothing
- 22:16means don't be don't don't have the thoughts of anxiety. But I
- 22:20want you to shift your anxious bring your conscious thoughts,
- 22:25to think on those things which are lovely. Think on those
- 22:28things which are pure. Think on those things which have a good
- 22:31report, sing songs that make you happy. Think on those things. So
- 22:38the the thing is that what opened up to me is that before
- 22:45we would look up to heaven, and tell God to bring down
- 22:48blessings. The carpet sent down the blessing and we were crying
- 22:54out Yeah. And we're waiting for blessings to come. But when I
- 22:57saw that scripture revolutionized me, he didn't
- 23:00say, wait for me to send down blessing. He said, I don't want
- 23:03you to be anxious, I want you to think I want you to take the
- 23:09actions. Think on those things which are pure. In other words,
- 23:12I want you to transform, I want you to rewire the way that you
- 23:16are thinking. So when I have you in a meditative stance, I can
- 23:21use that scripture in meditation. This is what you're
- 23:24doing. I want you to shift your thoughts from the things that's
- 23:28making you anxious, and start thinking of some things that
- 23:31make you smile, start thinking of some things. So what I do
- 23:35with the singers visualization, I say think about something that
- 23:38you used to love doing that you can't do no more. Whether it's
- 23:41dancing, singing and visualize that visualize yourself doing
- 23:45that thing. If he was playing sports, visualize yourself
- 23:48playing sports. Now think of the you in the present time doing
- 23:53those things. What does that look like? The present you doing
- 23:56something that you used to love doing that you can't do no more.
- 23:59That's why we're here. So we can get the mobility back. So when I
- 24:03was coming up, grandma used to say, we thank God for the
- 24:06activities of our lives. And then they're like, Yeah, all
- 24:09right. So now let's get those limbs active again. Right?
- 24:12Because we thinking on those things. So we remove the number
- 24:16one, I can do all things and they finish to Christ extract
- 24:19me. So I don't want you to come into my class telling me I can't
- 24:23do it. I don't want you to come in and say Ha, the doctor said I
- 24:27can't. Right. So we talked about micro movements. I may not be
- 24:33able to do this today, but I want you to monitor
- 24:36and do this. Yeah, yeah, I can do
- 24:38this. Yeah, right. And if I keep doing this through repetition,
- 24:42through coming back to sitting in that chair, to get on that
- 24:45mat, if I keep doing this, eventually I'll be able to do
- 24:47this. I have a class on Wednesday nights that were 90%
- 24:52Chair bound. None of them have chairs no more. I call one of
- 24:56the ladies Mama Mama through to walk away she comes in and she's
- 25:00on a mat, she does downward upward dogs, she does some
- 25:05citation, a modified citation beaks keeps those arms up she
- 25:10can, she can do some things that some of the younger ladies can
- 25:15do. Because she kept coming back, and wants to see it work
- 25:19to see them get their lives back. I'm not I'm talking about
- 25:23but I do want to share an experience that just happened to
- 25:25me. I work in a homeless shelter. And I was teaching a
- 25:29mother and daughter. And it's a six week program. And it's a
- 25:33train to train and we train other people to do. So. We want
- 25:37to go into the facility that was using this facility as a model.
- 25:41So that we can build in a facility a mindfulness program
- 25:44to urban Yogi's, and the mother has had a disease, I don't want
- 25:49to say what it was because I can't remember whether it's
- 25:51lupus or Ms. But it meant she wasn't she was chair about. And
- 25:56she walk with a walker, but she she really was chair. And we,
- 26:02during this practice, I play affirmations in the background.
- 26:07So and I am I am healed, I am. And these things are playing
- 26:12while we're doing a yoga. And that's becoming an is, you know,
- 26:17I'm helping them to reimagine they don't know what he's doing.
- 26:21But it's putting new impressions into the subconscious while we
- 26:24do our practice. So I told him to think of something that you
- 26:28want to do that you can't do now stain visualization, she said,
- 26:33she's engaged, and she wants to be able to walk down the aisle.
- 26:37So one day, she gets up out of a chair, and she starts walking
- 26:40around the room. And her daughter's behind her. And she's
- 26:44shaking, and she's walking her and I am is going and she's
- 26:47saying it out loud. She goes to the doctor, she has a trauma, a
- 26:51traumatic experience. This is the one Wednesday night that we
- 26:53can a body goes through trauma, the resistance comes she tells
- 26:59the director I can't do that no more is making me sick. She
- 27:05didn't see the small movement, the micro movement and victory.
- 27:09All she could do was lean. And I never got a chance to talk to
- 27:12her again. Because I can't get into the facility. I don't I
- 27:15don't have that. Because I can explain to her. What happens is
- 27:20the negative bias is going to rise up because that's what it
- 27:24says I own your body. She I'm hopefully I'm gonna do an event
- 27:30this afternoon. We're doing it we do yoga pop ups. I pray that
- 27:35she comes out
- 27:36Alan Carroll: yeah. Let's let's just say this, this the
- 27:39alignment on that we pray that she shows up today. And
- 27:44Unknown: that this is what happens. When you start to when
- 27:47you start to think and transform, we start to see
- 27:50transformation. It gets worse. And then it gets better to see
- 27:55goes into the dark and then it harvests into reality.
- 28:00Alan Carroll: Very, very sweet. Very sweet. You you describe
- 28:03something about Eckhart Tolle, who's a good friend of Deepak
- 28:08Chopra. I've watched them on YouTube together, talks about
- 28:12the the thought that you're thinking most people you said
- 28:1965 80,000 thoughts a day, go go go through your mind. And, and
- 28:25Raja Yoga is about the management of the thoughts that
- 28:28that you think. And one of the basic things that you want to be
- 28:31able to do is to be aware that you're thinking, and once I'm
- 28:35aware that I'm thinking, then it can begin to choose about, is
- 28:39there beneficial? Is there benefits falling in this train
- 28:42of thought? Is it harming my physical body. And so
- 28:46immediately you realize those negative thoughts are physically
- 28:49harming your physical body. And now I have the power to shift my
- 28:56focus to things that are of a higher vibration. And I then
- 29:02begin to speak in a way in which the Course of Miracles talks
- 29:07about God cannot do for you. God cannot do for you, God help me,
- 29:11God for you, that God cannot do through you. And when you start
- 29:16to believe that you have the power to speak, to speak for the
- 29:20Word of God, what would you say? Why would you do it? What you
- 29:24would say would be love and compassion and joy and peace and
- 29:27stillness and mindfulness? These are the things that you would
- 29:29say if you're a god, no run. But you're saying this right now. So
- 29:35you you speak for you speak. You speak for the song of the Holy
- 29:40Spirit. I mean, it's it comes through mindfulness and the Holy
- 29:44Spirit are definitely connected. And I'm in your scripture. So
- 29:48I'd like to just just tap into that. What is the connection
- 29:52that you see? When we talk about the Holy Spirit, the Spirit
- 29:56beyond the physical and the mindfulness and the medicine
- 30:00nation as a bridge to build to get to that space of, of
- 30:04emptiness of spiritual where the Holy Spirit lives.
- 30:08Unknown: The question, there's blockers that that come from. So
- 30:12we've talked about when when we talk about salvation, the
- 30:17misnomer is that we're being redeemed from a dark place,
- 30:22darkness and translated into light. So this translation
- 30:25happens most in a religious context, everything happens
- 30:29externally. But in its truest form, the pure response,
- 30:32everything happens mentally, in the mind.
- 30:36Alan Carroll: Yeah, let's take say that again, because that's a
- 30:39big deal. So, Say that one again, and add a little more
- 30:44meat to it. Because the the idea that what you create in your
- 30:47mind comes first is like, pretty important stuff.
- 30:53Unknown: Yes. So in religious context, everything happens on
- 30:57the outside, meaning I go to church, I put on a suit. I got
- 31:01my Bible under my arm. I don't read it. But I have it. Yeah. I
- 31:05sing in a choir, I started to acquire all these. Yeah. And
- 31:10they say, I've been to church, all my life, all my life. But
- 31:13But you've been in church, but have you been renewed in the
- 31:16mind? Have you been transformed by the renewing of your mind?
- 31:23Have you been translated from darkness into light? So when we
- 31:27lose, use low vibration words, as believers, like I want? What
- 31:32the Bible says, I shall not want. But where does that
- 31:34happen? That happens first in the mind. Everything has to be
- 31:39realized in their minds. So the illuminating process of the
- 31:42Spirit, we talked about those words that play out and I had
- 31:45all of those thoughts that come across, but in between each
- 31:48thought were Deepak says is there there's a gap in between
- 31:51thoughts. And that's where the Spirit rests. That's where we
- 31:53found our sweet spot.
- 31:57Alan Carroll: There's a gap between the thoughts. So to say
- 32:01that, again,
- 32:02Unknown: the gap in between the thoughts, it may seem like we
- 32:05have one long thought, but in between each start is it's a
- 32:11movement, it's a movement, what meditation and what, when we
- 32:14meditate, and I did a whole series on prayer and meditation,
- 32:18and why combining the two was important. what prayer does is
- 32:23prayer shapes, we use our words to help shape our thought. What
- 32:27meditation does is help open the gap, so that we can rest in the
- 32:32place of what we call discernment. That's where we get
- 32:36our discernment from a spirit or open up, would someone say our
- 32:39third eye, if we're not exercising, that we're going to
- 32:44have religious thoughts without being able to operate within the
- 32:48spirit of those doors. So we have people who say I love God,
- 32:53but then they'll go bomb a building. Because they feel like
- 32:57they're doing God a favor. But if they tap into that quiet
- 33:01place where the Spirit dwells, the more we tap in, the wider
- 33:05the longer the thoughts come, the more you start to see the
- 33:10gap in between each of those thoughts, the more things begin
- 33:14to slow down, it's like being a rookie playing football. And
- 33:17they say, I see Go Sam Darnell, and being a veteran that says,
- 33:21Oh, that guy moved to the left, I know that he's about to try to
- 33:24blitz, right, because he's, he's spent time in the study room,
- 33:29spent time with the Spirit, the Spirit, when we sing songs in
- 33:34church, and this is something I had to really come across him.
- 33:36When I sound like this, I sound anti church, and I'm not, we
- 33:39say, I want the spirit to come down. And we're pointing people
- 33:44to everything on a spiritual plane, from the outward. When
- 33:48everything that the person need is already inside of them, what
- 33:51we need to do is point them, redirect them to focus on what's
- 33:55already built in side of us, and tap into that which we already
- 34:00have. And then we start to see how everything slows down.
- 34:07Everything starts to make sense. And God doesn't become this big
- 34:11thing other than us, God dwells in us.
- 34:18Alan Carroll: Beautiful, beautiful, the, the the idea in
- 34:22Buddhism, of the distinction they make between a state of
- 34:26disembodied mind. And the way I would describe this embodiment
- 34:30is that you're lost in the thoughts. You're in the monkey
- 34:32mind of the thoughts, the thoughts and thoughts and
- 34:35thoughts. So 65,000 thoughts all day long, but thought thought
- 34:38thought. And then they say, well, there's another state of
- 34:40consciousness, called the embodied state of consciousness,
- 34:44and the embodied state of consciousness and you're saying
- 34:47goodbye to the disembodied state of consciousness and you're
- 34:50saying hello to the, to the to an embodied state. Well, where's
- 34:55this embodied state? Well, I wonder where the N body state
- 34:58is. And so Breathing is embody, the grounding of your feet is
- 35:04embodied. The visualization is a show that's going on, in bodied,
- 35:09it's not a movie theater outside, it's a movie theater on
- 35:12the inside. And so the more time that you're able to be embodied,
- 35:18the further away you get from the disembodied state, which is
- 35:22the thoughts. And the thoughts are like the gravity, the closer
- 35:26the thought, the stronger the gravity, the further the thought
- 35:28is away, the weaker the gravity. So the more you go in, the
- 35:33further the gravity becomes. And so the influence that that
- 35:36thought has on your actions becomes nothing. But in the
- 35:42beginning, it was everything. But there
- 35:44Unknown: was everything, nothing is nothing. And, you know, when
- 35:50I when I began to meditate, and begin to do this practice, I saw
- 35:55myself as a part of creation.
- 36:00Alan Carroll: Not what said again, a power
- 36:03Unknown: as a part of creation, oh,
- 36:04Alan Carroll: part of you are a part of creation
- 36:08Unknown: of all of creation. So yeah, I look at I look at all
- 36:12Creation differently. So when we talk about grounding is what
- 36:15triggered that thought. It was before he like, Oh, we're taught
- 36:19like we're better than the trees were better than in that
- 36:22context. Because we have a will, does it make us better, we are
- 36:28part of creation. And then we if we respect, all that, all that
- 36:33is embodied in creation, that all things were created for him
- 36:36by his good pleasure, then we have a better understanding of
- 36:40our place in creation. And not as a sovereign person or a
- 36:46sovereign being in creation, but as a participant in creation to
- 36:51bring forward love and harmony in the world. And
- 36:57Alan Carroll: as you park the waves, between the thoughts, you
- 37:02realized is a blank canvas there, and you then have the
- 37:06power to paint on that Canvas, what you want to see outside.
- 37:11And so obviously, I'll paint love, kindness and compassion.
- 37:16And all of a sudden, I speak love, kindness, compassion, I
- 37:19see love, kindness, compassion. And that's all I see. Because
- 37:22that's my that's my reality. But what do you have to give up?
- 37:26What do you have to give up? What hat? What do you got to
- 37:28give up to park them waves? You got to give up something big in
- 37:32order to do that. And most people, no way. Am I gonna give
- 37:36that up new way. Oh, hold on that to the day I die. Jesus
- 37:41told.
- 37:43Unknown: I was always I was on a train yesterday, on my way to
- 37:48teach a class and I started thinking about the Scripture, we
- 37:51die daily. And I was like, Wow, I'm wondering, I really want to
- 37:56dive into what does that mean? We die daily. So we have to give
- 38:01up some stuff. What did I have to give up? I had to give up
- 38:04potato chips.
- 38:09Alan Carroll: No, no, no, we're not giving up potato chips. No,
- 38:11that's not. That's not
- 38:15Unknown: my daddy been eating. Right. I had to go in. I know
- 38:21that sounds funny. But it was difficult because that was a
- 38:23snack that I lived with all my life. I can't remember not
- 38:27having potato chips. Right? Right. So but if I know that
- 38:31it's harming me, I had to give up baking. I know that it's
- 38:39home, because I'm aware now of what it's doing to me. So I keep
- 38:43doing it. And I go to the doctor, he's like, you gotta get
- 38:46your cholesterol down. And I go, Okay, I'm gonna get it down. But
- 38:50then I go, we'll have a bacon sandwich. I'm just aware of the
- 38:54ramifications of it. But I'm not actually giving anything up.
- 38:59Right? The number three killer in the world, not in America in
- 39:04the world. Number one and two fluctuates is heart disease and
- 39:11cancer fluctuates. Number three is medicine,
- 39:15Alan Carroll: medicine, medicine, the medicine that we
- 39:19take medicine
- 39:20Unknown: that we think it's telling us.
- 39:24Alan Carroll: Let you talk to my wife, she's a big believer in
- 39:27not going to hospitals and watch those watch out for those
- 39:30Western doctors. They wanted they want to treat you with
- 39:33medicine. And whereas I like Deepak wants to treat me with
- 39:36yoga and meditation. And I'd rather be treated with the
- 39:40spiritual work of yoga and meditation and the breath work,
- 39:44and it's just wonderful. So we're gonna we're gonna complete
- 39:48our conversation but the conversation is not complete as
- 39:51far as I'm concerned around you. You are your ability to speak
- 39:57from the heart is real. rejuvenating, I think is a word
- 40:02I would use, read, rejuvenate, rejuvenate the the power, of
- 40:10stillness, as it is practically applied in situations and has a
- 40:19healing effect. They couldn't stop for 10 seconds. Now they
- 40:25can stop for 10 minutes. And my people might say, so what. But
- 40:35in the first one, you are on that automatic reaction to
- 40:41what's going on. But as you're able to shift over here, you now
- 40:48have that 10 minutes of silence, to ponder what seeds that you
- 40:55want to sow, in the garden of your reality. And you are you
- 41:00have the seeds, you you sow the seed, you sow those attacks,
- 41:04seeds, you live in attack reality, you sow the seeds of of
- 41:10love and compassion and joy. You live in that reality. And so
- 41:14you're sowing seeds of love and compassion and joy in a concrete
- 41:20garden. And you're seeing little flowers, little things happen in
- 41:28a concrete garden where they said, This is the lowest darkest
- 41:32place, can't get any worse than this. And the way you vividly
- 41:36described it of the daily bombardment of sound. Just you
- 41:46personally, I was watching the news, which I never watch at six
- 41:53o'clock. And I couldn't believe it actually physically affected
- 41:57my body to hear all the negativity of the world coming
- 42:01into my mind. Turn that sucker off right away. Because it has a
- 42:06strong influence, but we don't think it does. And that's why
- 42:10the power of meditation that you're bringing into the schools
- 42:13and around the world is, is wonderful. Wonderful. So thank
- 42:17you very, very, very much for being a wonderful guest. And I
- 42:20look forward to having future conversations, because you're a
- 42:25you're a cornucopia of love for people. So I like that very
- 42:30much.
- 42:31Unknown: Thank you. Thank you.
- 42:35Alan Carroll: And anything that you'd like to say to the
- 42:37audience if they wanted to reach out and how to contact you or
- 42:40reach out how they can make donations to the foundations.
- 42:45Now,
- 42:47Unknown: right now, we're, we're rebranding everything with our
- 42:51website and everything. So we don't have our website up and
- 42:54going but it is urban Yogi's. And it's going to be open I had
- 42:59put as urban Yogi's book, our we have a PayPal, which is the
- 43:04church's Tillmann at one ministry. So that's the name of
- 43:09the email, dot church. Tillman at one ministries dot church,
- 43:12you can give it to our Patreon, and we have our business
- 43:14accounts and everything. But it's not connected to all our

- 43:20love to get get back to you at that. But also, if anybody ever,
- 43:25this is my first time guessing. My one of my goals is to go out

- 43:35Deepak and I'm like I could do that. You can do that. You can
- 43:39do that really wonder, I really want to get involved. So if

- 43:49always ready to get our speaker to share with anyone and I thank
- 43:54you for allowing us to come on and share what it is that we do.
- 43:59Alan Carroll: Well. Excellent. And so we will we will continue
- 44:05to speak be connected into the future because this sounds like
- 44:09an exciting, an exciting opportunity for us to go back
- 44:11and forth a few times. So I wish you by i wish you success. And I
- 44:17wish you to have a joyful stillness day full of bliss and
- 44:22joy.
- 44:23Unknown: But it's 80 degrees in New York. And I have an outdoor
- 44:27event. About to go speech at the homeless shelter. Kids fresh out
- 44:34of school, trying to get them to get on a map.
- 44:38Alan Carroll: Amazing. Well, thank you very, very much. All
- 44:41right, goodbye.
