- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfl Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to
- 0:17Connecting the Dots. I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan.
- 0:20It is Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026. We're so glad
- 0:24you're starting your day with us. We have quite
- 0:26a stack to get through today. We really do. We're
- 0:29connecting some pretty big dots. We're talking
- 0:32rocket science, high finance, and the regulation
- 0:36is trying to keep it all on the ground. It's
- 0:38a heavy one for sure. We're basically looking
- 0:40at the architecture of a new world being built
- 0:42in real time. We are. But before we get too philosophical,
- 0:46let's look out the window. If you're here with
- 0:48us in Sacramento, don't let that patchy fog this
- 0:51morning fool you. Right. It is burning off as
- 0:54we speak. We're looking at sunny skies and a
- 0:57really pleasant high of 67 degrees today. Yeah,
- 1:00perfect weather here. But for everyone tuning
- 1:02in from elsewhere, you'll probably want to keep
- 1:04the coats handy. Oh, yeah. It's still stubbornly
- 1:07cold across Florida in the southeast. The forecast
- 1:10says it should get a bit milder by tomorrow,
- 1:13though. OK, good. And if you're in the Central
- 1:15Appalachians or say the Ohio Valley, you're probably
- 1:18seeing some snow right now. And we've got rain
- 1:20and thunderstorms rumbling. all along the Gulf
- 1:23Coast. So yeah, stay dry, stay warm out there.
- 1:27Absolutely. So let's do a quick pulse check on
- 1:29the markets before we jump in. Let's do it. The
- 1:31Dow Jones had a pretty solid Monday. It closed
- 1:34up about 1 .29%, sitting right around 49 ,400.
- 1:40OK. And the S &P 500 also had a good day, up
- 1:43about 0 .86%, closing near 69 .76%. So traditional
- 1:49markets are happy. Crypto though a bit of a different
- 1:53story a different story is right Bitcoin is sliding
- 1:56again. It's down slightly for the day Less than
- 2:01a percent, but if you zoom out, it's been a rough
- 2:03week. It's down over 12 % since last Tuesday
- 2:06just hovering around $78 ,000 Wow. Yeah that
- 2:10volatility is back with a vengeance It really
- 2:12is now speaking of energy and we're gonna talk
- 2:14a lot about energy in our first story I have
- 2:16to mention what's literally fueling the show
- 2:18this morning We have a new partner. And honestly,
- 2:21the timing is perfect because I was dragging
- 2:23myself in here today. It's Strong Coffee. I actually
- 2:26had a cup before we started. It's surprisingly
- 2:28good for instant. That's the thing. It's premium
- 2:30instant, but it doesn't have that instant taste.
- 2:33You know, it tastes like a traditional brew.
- 2:35But here's the kicker. Go on. It is packed with
- 2:3815 grams of protein. MCTs and adaptogens like
- 2:42ashwagandha. And for anyone who doesn't know,
- 2:44MCTs are medium chain triglycerides, basically
- 2:49healthy fats that your brain can use for immediate
- 2:51fuel, not for storage. Exactly, it gives you
- 2:53this clean sustained energy without any of the
- 2:56jitters. So if you wanna upgrade your morning
- 2:59routine, head over to strongcoffeecompany .com.
- 3:02And there's a deal, right? Of course. Use the
- 3:04promo code SNARFUL, that's S -N -A -R -F -U -L,
- 3:08for 20 % off your entire purchase. 20 % is solid.
- 3:11It really is. Okay, you ready to get into the
- 3:13morning star? Let's do it. We have three stories
- 3:15today that when you put them all together, they
- 3:18really paint a picture of where technology is
- 3:20trying to go. And the friction it's hitting along
- 3:21the way. Exactly. So let's jump into our first
- 3:24story. Elon Musk has officially merged SpaceX
- 3:28and XAI. This is the big one. We've been hearing
- 3:32rumors for a while, but now it's confirmed. Musk
- 3:36sent a memo to staff. SpaceX is acquiring XAI.
- 3:41And just so everyone is clear on the corporate
- 3:42family tree here, that includes the social platform
- 3:45X. And the chatbot grok, right? Correct. The
- 3:48rocket company now officially owns the social
- 3:50media company and the AI company. And he calls
- 3:53it creating a what a vertically integrated innovation
- 3:57engine. That's the phrase. And financially, we're
- 4:00talking about a combined valuation that could
- 4:02hit one point five trillion dollars with an IPO
- 4:05supposedly coming later this year. Trillion with
- 4:07a T. That is just staggering. But help me understand
- 4:11the logic here. Why merge a rocket company with
- 4:14an AI company? It feels like merging a bakery
- 4:17with a shoe store. It sounds odd, I know, but
- 4:19it makes sense once you look at the physics of
- 4:21it. In the memo, Musk makes this really specific
- 4:23argument. Okay. He says earth -based power grids
- 4:26are just not going to be able to handle the energy
- 4:28needs of future AI. Right, we've talked about
- 4:30this. Data centers are absolute power hogs. Hogs
- 4:33is an understatement. They are threatening to
- 4:35destabilize entire grids. So Musk's argument
- 4:39is if we want to scale AI to the level he envisions,
- 4:42what he calls a sentient sun, we can't do it
- 4:45on Earth. So what's the solution? Orbital data
- 4:48centers. Orbital data centers. You mean like
- 4:50flying server farms? That's essentially it. The
- 4:52vision is to launch up to one million satellites
- 4:55that act as these flying supercomputers. One
- 4:58million. That number seems excessively high.
- 5:02It's massive. But the logic, and I'm quoting
- 5:05here, is space is called space for a reason.
- 5:08There's room. But more importantly, he said,
- 5:10it's always sunny in space. Ah, OK. So the solar
- 5:14power angle, no night, no clouds, just constant
- 5:17energy. Precisely. Near constant solar harvesting.
- 5:20But there's another huge advantage he's betting
- 5:22on, cooling. On Earth, half the energy a data
- 5:26center uses is just for cooling the chips so
- 5:28they don't melt. Space is, you know, cold. It's
- 5:30a natural heat sink. So you get free power from
- 5:32the sun, free cooling from the vacuum of space,
- 5:34and then you just beam the data down. That's
- 5:37the theory. It offloads that massive, massive
- 5:40electricity drain from Earth's grid. Okay, I
- 5:42see the vision, but I have to play devil's advocate.
- 5:45Putting a million satellites into orbit isn't
- 5:48like delivering a pizza. The logistics seem impossible.
- 5:51Well, that is exactly why the merger happened.
- 5:54To make this work, they need to launch millions
- 5:56of tons of equipment into orbit. So this turns
- 5:59SpaceX from just a rocket company into the logistics
- 6:03arm for XAI. This is where Starship comes in
- 6:06then? It has to be. The Falcon rockets are great,
- 6:08but they're way too small for this. Musk is talking
- 6:11about launches happening every hour. Every hour.
- 6:14Carrying 200 tons per flight. That's the target.
- 6:17It forces the development of Starship to accelerate
- 6:20because the demand is now coming from inside
- 6:22the house, you know? Okay, let's say they somehow
- 6:25pull this off. What does it mean for us down
- 6:27here on the ground, besides our power grid not
- 6:30crashing? The main consumer benefit is connectivity.
- 6:33This whole constellation promises direct to mobile
- 6:36coverage everywhere. No more dead zones. But
- 6:39the bigger picture for Musk is financial. He
- 6:42claims the revenue from these orbital data centers
- 6:45is what will finally fund the moon bases in the
- 6:47cities on Mars. So the AI chatbots are paying
- 6:50for the ticket to Mars. That's the economic loop
- 6:53he's creating. It's no longer just a social media
- 6:56company or a rocket company. It's an attempt
- 6:58to build a civilization level computing infrastructure
- 7:01off planet. Wow. It basically frames the entire
- 7:05AI revolution as the economic engine for space
- 7:09colonization. Exactly, but I mean it relies on
- 7:12everything going right and as we know in tech
- 7:14things rarely go exactly to plan Which is a perfect
- 7:16segue to our second story while musk is literally
- 7:19looking at the stars We need to come back down
- 7:21to earth right because there was a lot of panic
- 7:23this week involving Nvidia open AI and a very
- 7:27very large sum of money Yeah, the hundred billion
- 7:29dollar misunderstanding. That's what people are
- 7:31calling it. So set the stage. Why did the market
- 7:33freak out? Well, rumors started flying that Nvidia
- 7:36was pulling back on a supposed $100 billion investment
- 7:39in OpenAI, or that the whole funding round was
- 7:42in trouble. And in this market, when you hear
- 7:45trouble and Nvidia in the same sentence, people
- 7:49just panic sell. Oh, absolutely. Because Nvidia
- 7:52and OpenAI are basically the load -bearing walls
- 7:54of this entire tech boom, right? If they start
- 7:57to crack, the whole roof comes down. So what
- 7:59happened? Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, came out
- 8:03to clear the air and essentially he said, everybody
- 8:06hold your horses. He clarified that there was
- 8:09never a single check for a hundred billion dollars
- 8:12just sitting on a desk. So it wasn't a lump sum
- 8:15payment? No, and that's the key thing to understand
- 8:17about how these mega deals work. Huang explained
- 8:20that the agreement is to invest up to that amount
- 8:22over time in different phases or tranches. Kind
- 8:25of like a construction loan. You get the money
- 8:27as you hit certain milestones and build things
- 8:29out. It's a very similar concept. You unlock
- 8:32the funding as you go. Right. He pushed back
- 8:34really hard on any rumors of tension, too. He
- 8:36called OpenAI consequential and confirmed Nvidia
- 8:39will likely make its largest investment ever
- 8:41in them. Just not all on day one. Exactly. And
- 8:44I mean, even for a company like Nvidia, writing
- 8:47a check for 100 billion dollars all at once is.
- 8:50Well, it's aggressive. A little risky, yeah.
- 8:52And Sam Altman from OpenAI backed this up on
- 8:55X, saying they love working with NVIDIA, but
- 8:57there was another player who stepped in to calm
- 8:59the waters. Who was that? Oracle. Oracle. They
- 9:03usually stay in the background. Yeah. How are
- 9:05they involved in all this? Oracle is kind of
- 9:08like the landlord in this situation. OpenAI has
- 9:11a $300 billion contract for compute capacity
- 9:14with them. Wait, 300 billion, is that the right
- 9:17number? That's the number. OpenAI rents the servers,
- 9:21the actual physical chips and cloud infrastructure,
- 9:24from Oracle. So Oracle issued a statement basically
- 9:27saying any drama between NVIDIA and OpenAI has
- 9:30zero impact on them. They just wanted investors
- 9:32to know, hey, don't worry, OpenAI can still pay
- 9:35its rent. That's exactly what it was. It's funny
- 9:37how fragile the market psychology is, though.
- 9:39One little rumor about a deal structure, and
- 9:42the entire industry just holds its breath. It
- 9:44really shows that the market is nervous about
- 9:47how long this AI boom will last. They're looking
- 9:49for any crack in the foundation. So what's the
- 9:52real -world impact of all this? Why should the
- 9:55average person care about how Nvidia structures
- 9:58its payments? Stability. It's about stability.
- 10:01It reassures the tech world that the cash isn't
- 10:04drying up. It shows the infrastructure for AI,
- 10:07the chips, the cloud is still being... built
- 10:10out aggressively. So the AI tools that businesses
- 10:13are starting to rely on aren't just going to
- 10:15vanish overnight because of a funding issue.
- 10:17Right. It's basically the adults in the room
- 10:19saying calm down. The construction project is
- 10:21still on schedule. The money is there. It's just
- 10:23being deployed carefully. OK. So we've got these
- 10:26massive space ambitions in story one. We've got
- 10:29huge financial maneuvering in story two. But
- 10:32our third story. It takes a very serious turn.
- 10:34It does. We have to talk about the friction between
- 10:36these fast -moving technologies and the laws
- 10:39that are meant to protect us. Right. While Musk
- 10:41is merging companies and NVIDIA is signing deals,
- 10:44regulators over in Europe are stepping on the
- 10:46brakes. Hard. It's happening. The UK Information
- 10:49Commissioner's Office, the ICO, and the EU have
- 10:52both launched formal investigations into X and
- 10:55XAI regarding the Grok chatbot. And this isn't
- 10:58just some paperwork issue. This is about real
- 11:01-world safety. It is. The specific issue here
- 11:04is Grok's image generation tools, which were
- 11:06released late last year in 2025. Authorities
- 11:09are saying these tools have been used to create
- 11:11harmful sexualized content. We're talking about
- 11:14deep fakes here. Yes. non -consensual deep fake
- 11:17images and very disturbingly deep fakes that
- 11:21involve minors. That is terrifying and we saw
- 11:23a huge wave of this flooding the platform back
- 11:26in December, didn't we? We did and now the regulators
- 11:28are finally acting. The UK ICO is investigating
- 11:31their data processing practices and the EU is
- 11:34investigating under the Digital Service Act,
- 11:36the DSA. Can you explain that the DSA angle?
- 11:38What does that law actually require? The DSA
- 11:41essentially says you can't just release a powerful
- 11:43tool and see what happens. You have to perform
- 11:45a risk assessment before you roll it out to the
- 11:47public. They want to know if X failed to assess
- 11:49and mitigate these risks proactively. This feels
- 11:52like a direct clash of philosophies then. You
- 11:54have the move fast mentality. From story one,
- 11:57you know, launch the rockets, build the AI, figure
- 12:00it out later. And then in story three, you have
- 12:02the don't break things reality and the things
- 12:05being broken are people's lives and safety. That's
- 12:08the core tension of our time, isn't it? Innovation
- 12:11versus safety. And it sounds like it's getting
- 12:14gritty. Very French prosecutors actually raided
- 12:17X's Paris offices recently as part of this whole
- 12:20thing. A raid. Like police actually entering
- 12:23the building. Yes. It signals that governments
- 12:25are really losing patience with that old ask
- 12:28for forgiveness not permission model that tech
- 12:30has used for so long. So for our listeners out
- 12:32there, especially parents, what does all this
- 12:35mean? Well, it highlights that the dangers of
- 12:37generative AI are very real and they're here
- 12:40now. It's a reminder to be so vigilant about
- 12:43online safety. But for tech users in general,
- 12:46this could lead to real changes. Like what? We
- 12:48might see stricter guardrails put on these tools,
- 12:51or maybe certain features just being disabled
- 12:53entirely in Europe and the UK. And often, where
- 12:56Europe leads on tech regulation, the rest of
- 12:59the world eventually follows. It's that Brussels
- 13:01effect. Exactly. These investigations could end
- 13:04up setting the global standards for how AI image
- 13:07tools are allowed to operate. It forces companies
- 13:10to build safety in from the start rather than
- 13:13trying to patch it later. It's a heavy note to
- 13:15land on, but a really important one. We can't
- 13:18just look at the shiny new satellites. We have
- 13:20to look at the impact down here on the ground.
- 13:22Absolutely. The technology is amazing, but the
- 13:25human cost always matters most. Okay, we are
- 13:28going to wrap things up in just a moment. But
- 13:30before we do, I want to mention our second sponsor
- 13:32for today. If you're looking to step up your
- 13:34game on the golf course, you need to check out
- 13:37SCONI. Scony makes fantastic golf shoes. They're
- 13:41premium quality, incredibly comfortable, and
- 13:43honestly, they just look so much better than
- 13:46those traditional stiff golf shoes. They really
- 13:48do. They have this great sneaker -like comfort,
- 13:50but still have all the grip you need on the course.
- 13:53And we've got a hookup for you. Use the promo

- 14:02You can find them at scony .com. Definitely worth
- 14:05checking out. So let's quickly recap the thread
- 14:07connecting all the dots today. It really feels
- 14:09like we're watching the three layers of a new
- 14:12civilization being built all at once. It really
- 14:15does. First, you have the infrastructure layer,
- 14:17right? That's Musk trying to move the hardware
- 14:19to space to solve the energy crisis. Right. Then
- 14:22you have the financial layer that's Nvidia and
- 14:24Oracle stabilizing the money and the foundation
- 14:27back here on Earth. And finally, the governance
- 14:29layer. You've got regulators trying to ensure
- 14:31the software itself doesn't cause real harm to
- 14:34real people. It's messy, it's unbelievably expensive,
- 14:37and it's all happening incredibly fast. It certainly
- 14:39is. And here's the thought to leave you with
- 14:41today. If Musk actually succeeds in putting a
- 14:44million AI satellites in orbit, who governs that
- 14:49data? If the server is physically in international
- 14:52space, whose laws even apply? That is the trillion
- 14:55dollar question, isn't it? I don't think anyone
- 14:57has an answer for that yet. Something to mull
- 14:59over as you start your Tuesday. Thank you so
- 15:02much for hanging out with us. We're here to help
- 15:04at SNARFL, so reach out on our website if you
- 15:06have any more questions. That's a wrap on today's
- 15:12top stories. Remember, tech doesn't have to be
- 15:15complicated and we're here to help connect the
- 15:17dots. If you've got questions or want to learn
- 15:20more, visit us at snarfl .com. Thanks for listening
