- 0:00This shit ain't nothing to me, man. This is Boxing
- 0:03Before Dark. Boxing. Boxing. Boxing. Back. Back.
- 0:06Back. Back. Back. Before. Before. Before. Before.
- 0:11Boxing. Boxing. Boxing. Boxing Before Dark. This
- 0:15is Boxing Before Dark. All right. Shall we do
- 0:26the fucking thing? Let me pop. We should. This
- 0:31is the last hop that I got. What are you drinking?
- 0:39A hard seltzer. Truly is the name, and this is
- 0:46the Unruly brand. Truly Unruly. Nice. A little
- 0:51bit more potent than their usual potables. Nice.
- 0:58I already told you, but I've got the pear ciders
- 1:00from my home province in Japan. That actually
- 1:05sounds pretty good. Like Asian pear. I love Asian
- 1:08pears. I don't really like apple cider, but I
- 1:12like pear cider. Yeah, pear cider is good. Yeah.
- 1:17So there's quite a few right now. It's pear season.
- 1:20So I've been trying all the kinds I could find.
- 1:23I found these ones on Amazon. Had to get 24 of
- 1:27them. I couldn't find them in the store. That
- 1:31and Sapporo Gold Star was also on sale. Was that
- 1:38the halfie that you left behind? Yeah. I wasn't
- 1:45even drunk. I just opened it at midnight and
- 1:47was like, what the fuck am I doing? Yeah, I've
- 1:50had that happen before as well. similarly like
- 1:55i just put it back in the refrigerator like yeah
- 1:57well breakfast beer is always good yeah can't
- 2:04the only way it could be worse is if you left
- 2:06like a like a burnt out cigarette inside of it
- 2:10oh that's that's the like the limit right there
- 2:14all right anyways i'm not disgusting no let's
- 2:19get into some boxing On that fucking wonderful
- 2:23note, Boxing Before Dark, here we are, here to
- 2:27talk all the goddamn fights. Oh, Shanada, what
- 2:32is, what it do? What goes on with you? I was
- 2:38on vacation last week. It was great. I highly
- 2:42recommend if you have time and you don't want
- 2:44to be, like, surrounded by tourists, to check
- 2:48out Obihiro. Obihiro is on the big island of
- 2:52Hokkaido. It's super easy to get to from Sapporo.
- 2:55I took a bus. I got to see some countryside,
- 2:59see some wildlife. I saw some deer, a fox, there's
- 3:04cows, horses, all that good stuff. And they are
- 3:08the only place that has draft horse racing in
- 3:10the entire world. So big old draft horses pull,
- 3:15I think, well, the weight. changes depending
- 3:19on the race but it's a thousand pounds or more
- 3:21usually over a maybe three foot high hill and
- 3:27then uh five and a half six foot hill and uh
- 3:31that's the race it's just a straight line over
- 3:33two hills and who can get there first it was
- 3:36really fun though and draft horses that's like
- 3:39think budweiser commercials yeah Yeah, so these
- 3:45ones tend to be a different breed. They have
- 3:47two breeds and the... What are the Budweiser
- 3:52horses? The Clydesdales are not what these ones
- 3:56are because they're not powerful enough. These
- 3:59are Belgians and some other breed. But it was
- 4:04really cool. And the food in Hokkaido is my fucking
- 4:08favorite. It's just all meat and vegetables,
- 4:10which I really miss. living on the main island
- 4:13because it's a lot of seafood so i went and it's
- 4:18called butadon which is just pork bowls but not
- 4:21the pork bowls you think of it's like fucking
- 4:24thick ass side pork that's been marinated in
- 4:28a slightly sweet sauce with uh onions and peas
- 4:32on top of rice it's the best thing i've ever
- 4:35eaten it's fucking delicious highly recommend
- 4:40it I think Cocos would do you right. I really
- 4:44do. But I cooked that at home. You just refused
- 4:50to try it. I'll go try it. The thing is, I have
- 4:56to go talk to the people here. I can't order
- 5:00on a machine and they don't speak English. And
- 5:04I don't speak Japanese. I didn't speak Japanese
- 5:08either. And they understood my order perfectly.
- 5:11Yeah, but you were in an army base. Close enough.
- 5:14Close to. Close enough to one that, yeah, they
- 5:18kind of understood English. Basic English. But
- 5:26that's enough of that. You know who didn't understand
- 5:30basic English? Maybe he did. Lester Martinez.
- 5:35First Christian in Beely who did not. That was
- 5:41a great fight, and I'm so happy the rematch seems
- 5:44to be on. They're talking dates and everything
- 5:47already. What are the dates being floated at
- 5:52the moment? I think it was January that I heard,
- 5:57maybe, or December. I'm trying to think of what's
- 6:02going on at that time frame. I don't think anything's
- 6:04been set yet. Like, if they're going to make
- 6:08this an undercard, I don't know of what they
- 6:11would attach this to yet. Inouye is in December.
- 6:17Yeah. I don't think they would do this one on
- 6:20an Inouye undercard. No. Yeah, so it was ordered
- 6:28by the WBC. It might theoretically be for a belt
- 6:33if... Crawford decides to vacate them? Yeah,
- 6:38that is one of the questions that's hanging around
- 6:41with 168 just in general. What's he going to
- 6:46do with his titles? Yeah, I don't see any reputable
- 6:55places throwing around dates. Maybe I made up
- 6:57the beginning of next year thing. That does seem
- 7:01like a reasonable time frame, though. Just based
- 7:04on going from mid -September going to December
- 7:09or early January, that's a reasonable time frame
- 7:14to guess. Yeah, but I might have just made that
- 7:19up. That might have been a complete guess. But
- 7:21it has been ordered. The two camps seem to be
- 7:25on board. It seems like it's actually going to
- 7:28happen. It's going to happen next, which is good.
- 7:32Like, that's one that I think needs to be soon.
- 7:36Yeah, like, Lester Martinez and Christian Mbili,
- 7:40they don't have the luxury of sitting back and
- 7:43waiting to decide their next move. They don't
- 7:48have, like, the notoriety or the fame or whatever
- 7:51you want to call it. They have to step into challenging
- 7:58fights. as often as possible if they want to
- 8:03get their name profile built up. Yeah, but I'm
- 8:09excited that for, well, not for once, but you
- 8:12know how sometimes it just doesn't happen? Yeah.
- 8:14Rematches that need to happen. I'm super excited
- 8:17that this one seems to be happening and happening
- 8:19when it should, not in five years when they both
- 8:23suck. I don't think it'll take five years, but...
- 8:30if it didn't happen immediately, it would, it
- 8:32would have taken like one or two, two years.
- 8:36And that would have, uh, it would have killed
- 8:40a lot of the momentum that was behind their original
- 8:44fight coming off of such a high, high profile
- 8:48platform, like having the Canelo Crawford being,
- 8:54being the on Netflix. That's your platform. You
- 8:58got, Not dozens, tens of millions of people watching.
- 9:07You can't just sit back and let a draw be what
- 9:14you're remembered by. Exactly. Well, and you
- 9:18were saying, what card will it be on? Honestly,
- 9:20after that, with that kind of profile, they could
- 9:24headline. I think people would tune in to watch
- 9:27that rematch. just to watch that rematch like
- 9:30if they did it on netflix again yes but if they
- 9:36tried to put that onto a something else that's
- 9:39where i'm not so sure i don't know like if you
- 9:42put it on espn or something that's pretty easy
- 9:45for people to get that's i think what it what
- 9:48i was trying to get at is ease of access because
- 9:52getting it on netflix that puts it in front of
- 9:58we'll say I think Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul
- 10:02was 40 million. Something crazy. That's the number
- 10:07of people that you're putting this fight in front
- 10:10of again. Or you could take the Canelo Crawford
- 10:14number and say this is the same number that you're
- 10:17putting in front of. But if they try to put it
- 10:25on something else, like Christian and Billy,
- 10:27Versus Lester Martinez 2. On Eye of the Tiger
- 10:32promotions. Get the fuck out of my face. That
- 10:35would be fucking atrocious. Yeah. That would
- 10:37be a complete waste of everybody's fucking time.
- 10:42Yeah. That would be a missed opportunity. For
- 10:46sure. Yeah. Oh. Well. Speaking of opportunities,
- 10:58Takuma Inoue versus Tenshin Nasukawa in November.
- 11:08Tell me about this, because this is news to me.
- 11:11It just got announced last week. Little Inoue
- 11:17is fighting Tenshin in Tokyo in November. I forget
- 11:21the date. I think it might be the 14th. Are you
- 11:24going to go to cheer on Tenshin to victory? I
- 11:29actually am thinking of maybe going, but not
- 11:32to cheer on Tenshin. Not for Tenshin, of course.
- 11:35I fucking hate him. It's not going to happen
- 11:39because Takuma is not the guy to do it, but I
- 11:42want Tenshin fucking out cold on his back. I
- 11:46don't think Takuma has the power. I think he
- 11:48can beat him. He could, yes. He could school
- 11:52him. I don't think he could knock him out cold,
- 11:54though, which is what I want. It's what I desire.
- 11:58Yeah, if you wanted somebody to knock out Tenshin,
- 12:01if you want him flat on his back, just count
- 12:04it out. You're looking at, like, Nakatani. Yeah.
- 12:10It wouldn't be flat on his back, but Seiya Tsutsumi
- 12:15could get the knockout. Just straight accumulation.
- 12:19He could dog him. He could dog him. Yeah. To
- 12:22a stoppage. But not. Yeah. Takuma, you're not
- 12:28the guy in this. Not for that. But I do think
- 12:32Takuma should win this. You think so? He's not
- 12:36going to be the favorite because. fucking fangirls
- 12:42but the money the money line is gonna favor tension
- 12:45of course yeah yeah so i'm gonna put some money
- 12:50on takuma i really do think he's a better boxer
- 12:52i would agree with that even though i'm by your
- 13:00standards by what you know of the fanboy the
- 13:05tension fanboy i i am not at all to that level
- 13:10But as a foreigner, I am a bit of a tension fanboy.
- 13:16All things notwithstanding, Floyd Mayweather's
- 13:22fight, all of that stuff, not at all discounted.
- 13:30I think tension's got the goods. I think he's
- 13:34got the goods. tension has more power but i this
- 13:39is definitely a step up and i i think he's gonna
- 13:42stumble a hundred percent a step you think this
- 13:45is a bigger how big how much bigger of a step
- 13:47up from uh maloney is this because maloney was
- 13:53a bit of a step up as well maloney was a step
- 13:56up but maloney has negative power and maloney
- 13:59was tagging him true absolutely true absolutely
- 14:03true And I think Takuma's just as good a boxer
- 14:07with slightly more pop. I think Takuma would
- 14:11beat Maloney as well. I would agree with that.
- 14:16But no, I think Maloney was a bigger step up,
- 14:19and I expected Tenshin to stumble on that one.
- 14:23And I think he stumbled, but he didn't fall.
- 14:25He kind of did. Yeah, he did stumble to a degree.
- 14:31For what a hater would want, not that big of
- 14:35a stumble, but he did. No, but. Almost. He did.
- 14:40I'm not. I can't deny it. Anyways, I'm going
- 14:44to hate watch the fuck out of this one. I do
- 14:50think it should actually be a fun fight. I am
- 14:53excited for this. This is just for me as. tension
- 14:59fanboy like me throwing my hands up for the people
- 15:02who can't see like I'm throwing them up yeah
- 15:04I'm a fanboy I'm really hoping that tension is
- 15:08gonna he's gonna prove the doubters wrong once
- 15:12again no there's only so much hate that you can
- 15:18throw at him and there's only so much of him
- 15:21proving you wrong that he can do I have an unlimited
- 15:26supply of hate. Do not doubt my hate stories.
- 15:30All right. Well, we'll keep an eye on it because,
- 15:35man, that is exciting. And that's in November.
- 15:39Yeah, I should have written down the date. But
- 15:41I'm thinking of grabbing a hate ticket. But I'm
- 15:45waiting to see what the undercard is. As far
- 15:47as I know, they haven't announced any of the
- 15:50undercard yet. So this is the main event. Oh,
- 15:53shit. Man, if I could make arrangements for...
- 16:00If it was... This would end up on a lottery,
- 16:05right? No, it's not nearly that big. I thought
- 16:09Tension was big enough to be a lottery. No, not
- 16:12a lottery. No. And it's in some weird -ass little
- 16:16arena I've never heard of. It's in the Toyota
- 16:18Arena. That's silly. I mean, it probably holds
- 16:23almost as many as Ariaka. I don't know. Still,
- 16:29you should. If you could, you should do it in
- 16:33Ariaka. It's in the same area. There's a whole
- 16:37bunch of arenas there. Oh, in the Tokyo Prefecture?
- 16:42Yeah, well, it's in... So there's Ariaka Arena,
- 16:46Ariaka Coliseum, and this is in that same area,
- 16:50the Toyota Arena. I don't know. I'm going to
- 16:53see what tickets are and if there's anyone I
- 16:56recognize on the undercard. But I bought a ticket
- 17:00to the one event in November, so it'll also depend
- 17:03if I can get time off work. Or not time off work,
- 17:07really, but if I have to work the weekend. Should
- 17:10be fun. Yeah, it'll be. I am sure that they're
- 17:15going to make it a good card. It'll probably
- 17:17be a lot of local prospects, but still, it should
- 17:21be enjoyable. I still want to... I'm kind of
- 17:25hoping, although he signed with the wrong promoter,
- 17:27but I was kind of hoping Yokoyama would get on
- 17:31this one. That would be a good placement. That
- 17:35was the name I was trying to remember as I was
- 17:38thinking of local names that you want to throw
- 17:41onto a... Solid domestic dust -up. Yeah. I think
- 17:48that's what the Ireland boys like to call them.
- 17:51Yeah. Speaking of dust -ups, Pitbull vs. Roach
- 17:57on Prime Pay -Per -View. I wrote this down. I
- 18:04must have seen it, but... Yeah. It's a great
- 18:10fight. Let me double check that. Because pay
- 18:13-per -view seems odd. It's a great fight. It's
- 18:18fantastic. Pitbull vs. Roach. That's the type
- 18:25of shit that you, we, us, the fans, this is what
- 18:29we want to see. This type of matchup. Pay -per
- 18:33-view. I don't know about all that, dawg. Yeah.
- 18:38Yeah, no, I didn't make a mistake. It is being
- 18:42reported as a prime pay -per -view. So I haven't
- 18:46seen any number, like, prices, but I don't know,
- 18:52man. My biggest problem with these pay -per -view
- 18:57cards is they're all fucking $80. Like, if you
- 19:01want to charge me $20, $25 for this, I think
- 19:06it's worth it. But $80 fucking dollars for Pitbull
- 19:12versus Roach? It's just too much. I know that
- 19:18everybody's always like, well, if you charge
- 19:21less, you're going to get the same amount of
- 19:23people buying it. And I just don't think that's
- 19:25true anymore. The millennials have $25. And they
- 19:31will pay $25 to avoid streaming fuck -ups. That
- 19:37sort of shit. To get the legit feed. Yeah, yeah,
- 19:42like... People our age, like, around 40, we all
- 19:47know how to steal shit. But we all also generally
- 19:51have $25. Like... And I'm willing to pay for...
- 19:58It's not that I can't. It's that when you're
- 20:02making it $80, I don't want to. exactly like
- 20:07and i think maybe it's a bad comparison but silk
- 20:11song just came out for 20 bucks and like even
- 20:15the pirates are saying fuck you guys we're not
- 20:17pirating this it's 20 bucks don't be a broke
- 20:20bitch and go buy it right and i not that the
- 20:25pirating people aren't going to still pipe like
- 20:28stream these ones. But I think there's a big
- 20:31group of people that would pay 20, 25 bucks that
- 20:35are not going to pay $80. I must, for legal purposes,
- 20:41say I would never, ever, ever pirate something.
- 20:46And I, of course, would always gladly pay the
- 20:49full price. So with that being said, like, there's
- 20:54no goddamn way I'm paying $80. For Pitbull Roach.
- 20:59This is a fucking excellent fight that I would
- 21:02love to see. I'm not paying $80 for it. No, we're
- 21:07going to end up fucking watching highlights the
- 21:10next day, which sucks. Well, we'll figure a way
- 21:13to watch it because we're crafty. I will say
- 21:19that the $80 ones, just as a general tip. If
- 21:24you have any fucking friends that watch boxing
- 21:27at all. If you can get four people to come to
- 21:29your house and everybody pays a $20 cover fee
- 21:32to watch it, then it's a $20 pay -per -view for
- 21:36you. But you shouldn't have to do that. Right.
- 21:42Because that's what I used to do. I just put
- 21:44like a little jar by the door and I almost never
- 21:47got enough money to cover the pay -per -views.
- 21:50Not everybody paid what they were quote -unquote
- 21:52supposed to, but somebody always paid something.
- 21:56Yeah, I was just thinking of the one time I had
- 22:00a pay -per -view party, but I went all out. I
- 22:03grilled up food and all sorts of stuff. Even
- 22:08if you paid for the pay -per -view, or if you
- 22:12tipped in for the pay -per -view, it was still
- 22:15not nearly enough for what... all the money that
- 22:19i put together for food and everything but still
- 22:23it was uh i've had people people over for pay
- 22:27-per -views and if just thinking of how many
- 22:31people came over if i did just put like a five
- 22:36five dollar cover that would have been enough
- 22:40to i don't know cover beer pretty like pretty
- 22:45much It would have been enough to cover something.
- 22:48And fuck me, but that pay -per -view was not
- 22:53$80. Yeah, and also, I'm a bitch when I'm watching
- 23:01boxing. Don't fucking talk to me during the rounds.
- 23:03There's lots of time between fights. We can talk
- 23:06about whatever the hell you want to talk about
- 23:08when they're not boxing. So I actually hate throwing
- 23:11the parties because I just want everybody to
- 23:14fuck off until the fight's over. So I'm not a
- 23:17good host. That's fair. Like when I was watching,
- 23:24I was also doing like live scoring for SP at
- 23:30the time. Right. So I was. It was the same thing.
- 23:37Don't fucking talk to me during the round because
- 23:39I'm watching the fight. I'm glued to the television.
- 23:44I'm just not going to talk to you. If you're
- 23:46going to try to say something to me, I will say
- 23:51things out loud as I see them. That is me taking
- 23:55notes for myself. But if you try to talk to me
- 24:00about what I just said, I'm going to ignore you.
- 24:05Yeah. Sorry to tell you, I'm quote -unquote working
- 24:10at the moment. Yeah, but... And you expect me
- 24:15to pay $80 for Pitbull vs. Roach. Well, like
- 24:19I said, I haven't seen that. I haven't seen a
- 24:22price, but that's what they all are. So far,
- 24:26all the prime pay -per -views have been in that
- 24:32neighborhood. $60 to $80, we'll say. Even if
- 24:39they made it $40, they'd get more people buying
- 24:43it. Yeah. Lowering the price. Because a strong
- 24:50majority of people are already prime subscribers.
- 24:55Yeah. There's really no reason to make the price...
- 25:01as high as it is like 80 per 80 bucks we'll just
- 25:06say for the for the sake of argument 80 there's
- 25:10no reason that it has to be 80 for everyone like
- 25:14you could give a discount to the prime subscribers
- 25:16yeah i mean the zone did that for a while they
- 25:22did for a while but anyways enough about pay
- 25:29-per -view numbers and how stupid they are yeah
- 25:32well there's only yeah there's only so much i
- 25:36can well before i just start repeating myself
- 25:40uh boxing death in ghana yeah so ghana's actually
- 25:50had two deaths this year which is a big deal
- 25:52obviously it is So they had one, I think it was
- 25:57May or March. And then just last week, I got
- 26:02his name here, but I'm really bad at names. Ernest
- 26:05Akashe. He's a light heavyweight boxer. He died
- 26:09a couple days after his fight on September 12th.
- 26:13And unlike Japan, Ghana is really, really taking
- 26:19this serious. And they have stopped all boxing
- 26:23in Ghana. indefinitely while they do some investigating
- 26:27on why there's been two deaths and how they can
- 26:31avoid it uh this this guy uh ernest he was like
- 26:39locally famous as a boxer and he wasn't he wasn't
- 26:44young but Anyways, Ghana has put all boxing on
- 26:50hold, and AJ had planned to be fighting in Ghana,
- 26:54I want to say December, he was going to have
- 26:58a fight there, starting a bit of a world tour
- 27:02type thing. So that obviously is also on hold.
- 27:07I have seen some people speculating that they'll
- 27:12pick a different African country. to host an
- 27:15AJ fight in. I haven't seen anything official
- 27:19about that. I actually haven't seen anything
- 27:22official saying that AJ's fight is cancelled
- 27:25in December or January. I can't remember when
- 27:28it was. But if all boxing is on hold for now,
- 27:31they might have to just straight up reorganize
- 27:35his kind of African debut. Yeah. If Ghana is
- 27:42your... Where you decided to make your first
- 27:46bout. Ghana's a pretty good boxing country, actually.
- 27:52There's been quite a few very famous Ghana fighters.
- 27:58I can't think of anybody right now. I think Quarterly?
- 28:02What was his name? He fought Delahoya. I think
- 28:08it's Quarterly. Quarry? No. Quarry's the white
- 28:12guys. Korti. Ika Korti is the one that I always
- 28:18think of from Ghana, but I think, like, Comey's
- 28:20from Ghana as well. Yeah, Richard Comey is also
- 28:23from Ghana. Like, they've had a few world stars
- 28:26come out of Ghana. And I wonder how many other
- 28:32countries that AJ would consider wouldn't also,
- 28:39like, suspend. suspend their boxing for i don't
- 28:44think any other countries have responded in that
- 28:48way but because anthony joshua his family is
- 28:53gone and right that's what i was wondering is
- 28:59where i think his tattoo no he's nigerian yeah
- 29:03i was gonna man i fucking knew it i fucking knew
- 29:07it I just wasn't sure where his roots, where
- 29:13he claims his roots from. Nigerian. So maybe
- 29:18they could move it to Nigeria, but I assume they
- 29:22were doing Ghana because there's more of an audience.
- 29:25Yeah. Major shrug on my part. I'm surprised they
- 29:34didn't make it Nigeria in the first place. Because
- 29:37there's a decent enough boxing crowd in Nigeria.
- 29:44It's not like AJ claiming the roots. He's not
- 29:48the only one. F .A. Adjogba claims Nigeria. That's
- 29:54just for one other. I don't know how many actual...
- 29:59big boxing matches they host in Nigeria. True.
- 30:03Okay. All those guys are kind of famous from
- 30:06elsewhere. Right. And Ghana is pretty close to
- 30:09Nigeria. I think that's why they chose it. Also,
- 30:13I might be talking out my ass. What's the official
- 30:18language in Nigeria? Because Ghana is English.
- 30:21Everybody speaks English in Ghana. The official
- 30:25language in Nigeria is also English. Yep. Anyways,
- 30:29I just thought I'd bring that up as news that
- 30:32AJ's world tour has been slightly... Derailed.
- 30:36Derailed. Slightly. But, speaking of British
- 30:42boxing, Calzaghe was voted into the British Boxing
- 30:48Hall of Fame and was also voted as the best British
- 30:52boxer of all time. Best British boxer of all
- 30:57time. This has sparked some debate online. A
- 31:04lot of people are saying Lennox Lewis, but I
- 31:06don't know if he really counts as British. He
- 31:09gets counted as whoever wants to count him as.
- 31:14But can you count him as the best British boxer?
- 31:18He wasn't born in Britain. He didn't really go
- 31:21to school in Britain. He is not very British.
- 31:26He technically, on a technicality, competed for
- 31:29Britain. When? His Olympic gold is Canadian.
- 31:35Well, then that destroys any argument that I
- 31:39had. So... I never thought of Lennox Lewis as
- 31:46British to begin with. But that's just me. So...
- 31:53Anyways, I just thought it was kind of cool.
- 31:55I like Calzaghe. Man, I think that this just
- 32:00comes at the wrong time because of Ricky Hatton
- 32:02passing away. Yeah, but I mean, let's be honest,
- 32:08Ricky Hatton isn't in the conversation for best
- 32:11British boxer of all time. Most loved, maybe.
- 32:15The cold scientist. No, but... He was loved as
- 32:23a person more than as a boxer. Well, he was loved
- 32:27as a boxer despite his success or lack of success.
- 32:32It doesn't matter. He brought the crowd out.
- 32:38People loved Ricky Hatton, but Joe Calzaghe won.
- 32:44People loved his boxing. People loved that he
- 32:46won. People loved Ricky Hatton as Ricky Hatton.
- 32:54Man, it's just difficult because Ricky Hatton
- 33:00brought the people out. He would have stadiums
- 33:07filled. Oh, for sure. Like, he's traveling to
- 33:12the U .S. or wherever the case is, and he's filling
- 33:17up stadiums. And Joe Calzaghe, it's like, I think
- 33:26this is the football comparison that comes to
- 33:30mind for me is Peyton Manning versus Tom Brady.
- 33:35And Calzaghe is Brady. He's got the victories.
- 33:39He has the rings. He has the titles. He has the
- 33:42wins. But Peyton Manning has like the records.
- 33:49I guess. I guess. I'm reaching there. I just
- 33:54think Ricky Hatton was loved for being Ricky
- 33:58Hatton, and Joe Calzaghe is only liked because
- 34:03he was a boxer. I don't think people like Joe
- 34:07Calzaghe very much. Well, he's Welsh. And if
- 34:12he wasn't a boxer, people wouldn't like him.
- 34:17But Ricky Hatton seems like people liked him
- 34:19just because. Well, because he was British British
- 34:24versus Calzaghe was Welsh. I guess. So that makes
- 34:30him a second -class citizen, basically. Yeah.
- 34:35Anyways, I thought it was interesting. It is
- 34:38interesting, because... Just because that's not
- 34:42a vote they needed to do either. It's not like
- 34:46every year they vote on whether they're going
- 34:48to name the best British boxer. And it was just
- 34:52the timing of it. Like, can we really take maybe
- 34:55delay the vote on the best British boxer of all
- 34:59time for at least a year while we wait for the
- 35:04time of a. I assume this was all done before.
- 35:10Perhaps. Perhaps. In stupid news, Tank has announced,
- 35:16quote -unquote announced, his retirement on Twitter.
- 35:20He's not fighting after the Jake Paul fight because
- 35:24boxing is dead. Is that his rationale? Yeah,
- 35:30I should have found the actual tweet. But boxing
- 35:34is dead and the fans are all fickle bitches and
- 35:37he's done with our shit, apparently. Oh, well,
- 35:40that's fantastic because he's a fickle bitch
- 35:44and I'm done with his shit. So it really works
- 35:48out really nicely. Yeah. Okay, here's the tweet.
- 35:54Is he mad because everybody thinks that he lost
- 35:57to Lamont Roche? That's definitely what he's
- 36:00mad about. Here's the tweet, Leo. Boxing definitely
- 36:05did a turn. It went from this side to that side,
- 36:08and then it's the sunglasses emoji. And this
- 36:11shit has no loyalty, so why would I care? I move
- 36:13accordingly. Boxing is dead, and it's the sunglass
- 36:17emoji with the peace. Yeah, you're upset that
- 36:21everybody thinks you lost. That you fucking took
- 36:23a knee and lost a fight. You lost to Lamont Roach,
- 36:27and you're upset about it. And you're a whiny
- 36:30little bitch. Oh, man. For a long time, I was
- 36:36a tank defender. It wasn't until he fucking straight
- 36:40up... Gervonta, I know you're listening. You
- 36:45lost. To Lamont Roach, you lost. You fucking
- 36:49lost. I'm not sure how else I'm supposed to phrase
- 36:54that. You lost and they bailed you out because
- 36:59you're the A -side. You got bailed the fuck out,
- 37:03my man. You lost to Lamont Roach. You lost. Before
- 37:09that, I was a staunch tank defender. Always,
- 37:14um... Trying to prop him up and sing his praises.
- 37:18But after that, it was like, what the fuck? What
- 37:21am I even doing? Yeah. He also looks super fat
- 37:31in the press conference. Well, I shouldn't throw
- 37:34shade for that. I am also fat. It's like a free
- 37:37weight fight anyway, right? No, but like... It
- 37:42looks like he has not been taking care of himself.
- 37:45Oh. Levels of gaining weight. Like Patty... Not
- 37:48quite Patty Pimplet, but... Patty Pimplet is
- 37:52a really good analog. Because he does not take
- 37:56care of himself between fights. Ricky Hatton
- 37:59did not take care of himself between fights.
- 38:02Ricky Fatten. Ricky Fatten. This is not like
- 38:06throwing shade at the dead. This is... The fact
- 38:11of the matter was the joke name was Ricky Fatten.
- 38:15He used to use it himself. I don't think he hated
- 38:18it. Okay, well, so he claimed it himself. Fantastic.
- 38:23All right. Do you need to plug things, Leo? Yeah,
- 38:28I do. I need to make these plugs now before I
- 38:34get upset when we get to our fucking reviews.

- 42:19didn't see. No limit at the Pat Rafter Arena
- 42:24in Tennyson. I did not watch the Aussie card.
- 42:31I was on vacation. That's all right. Liam Parrow
- 42:34got a UD over David Papo. Did he get a decision?
- 42:42Question mark? David Papo gave a good account
- 42:47of himself. Jacob was talking about fucking Nomas
- 42:53Paro. He was talking up Liam Paro's performance
- 42:57like crazy on Discord. Yeah, well, he's also
- 43:01Aussie, so he's like legally obligated to talk
- 43:07up his people. He seemed really, really impressed
- 43:11with Paro. I was not. Um, this would be a good
- 43:19time to have Jacob on the show. Dude, tell me,
- 43:24what did you see in Paro that I didn't? You should
- 43:29send him a message and have him do a call -in
- 43:31at least. Yeah, good idea. We interrupt our program
- 43:35to bring you this important message. Should not
- 43:38have raised a good idea. That was to get Jacob
- 43:41back on the fucking show, so that's what we did.
- 43:43Good to hear from you again. Yeah, no, it's good
- 43:46to be back for a brief bit before I head off.
- 43:48Yeah. All right, so I wasn't as impressed. Let's
- 43:51just get right into it. I wasn't as impressed
- 43:53with Liam Parra as Shanada was saying you were.
- 43:57Yeah, I cheated up a little. I'm not going to
- 43:59lie. But, no, I was at the fight, so what it
- 44:04looked like to me was that he was getting out
- 44:06of the way heaps. And it looked like early on,
- 44:08Papo was landing some big shots, especially with
- 44:10them straights. Obviously, Boyd got his eye caught
- 44:12up. But other than that, I didn't even realize
- 44:15that I think I just saw this guy fighting. I
- 44:19was like, he's gone good. Because it looked like
- 44:21whenever he was landing, he seemed to have this
- 44:25specific plan to try and exit with the check
- 44:27hook. And I thought that he was in control of
- 44:29that. Like, he got hit on the way out more than
- 44:31I thought he did initially, you know, at the
- 44:34arena. But I thought he went into that with a
- 44:37specific game plan, it seemed like. And to be
- 44:39honest, I didn't really expect that from him.
- 44:41I'm not going to lie to you. I kind of thought
- 44:44he was going to show up. He was going to try
- 44:46and counterpunch from mid -range and then get
- 44:49his business done just with volume that way.
- 44:51But it looked a little different. He obviously
- 44:53fell back into that strategy for a fair bit.
- 44:56We look at those later rounds where a lot of
- 44:59people thought those were his more convincing
- 45:00rounds. I thought the early ones, like the first
- 45:02two to three, were maybe the more convincing
- 45:04ones because that's where it looked like he was
- 45:06trying to just establish. you know, what he's
- 45:10doing with the body, what he's doing with getting
- 45:12around on the outside. Yeah, I was impressed
- 45:15by the game plan. I think the execution wasn't
- 45:17as good as I initially thought it was when I
- 45:19was watching it in person. But I like to see
- 45:22how he's developed. I think the only drawback
- 45:25was that I don't think he looks like he was hurting
- 45:27any of the shots, no matter how clean they were.
- 45:31And I think that's going to be something out
- 45:33of his upper weight division, especially for
- 45:35some of the guys that are in that division. above
- 45:38that division because i don't think paro is going
- 45:41to stay here because he's been fighting in a
- 45:43lower division since the very start of his career
- 45:46so i think he's hitting that age where he kind
- 45:48of naturally starts to bump up a bit so it's
- 45:51going to be really interesting next few years
- 45:52all right so i think the part you you noted the
- 45:58part that was where i wasn't as impressed was
- 46:00even though he was hitting papo pretty flush
- 46:03it didn't look like he was very bothered. And
- 46:06I thought, because he looked like an older gent,
- 46:08so I thought that he might have less of a chin
- 46:11because of it. Nah, he looks pretty unbothered.
- 46:16As you said, I thought it didn't look like he
- 46:19was attacking anything, which I guess comes on
- 46:21to a different aspect of how you score boxing
- 46:23fights as well, because I think some people make
- 46:26the more damaging work better than the cleaner
- 46:28work, per se. I think that's where I differ a
- 46:31bit, but that's just also because I've watched.
- 46:33so much amateur boxing to the point where things
- 46:35like power don't register that much to me when
- 46:38i'm watching the sport you know it's more just
- 46:40something that i feel when i'm inspiring and
- 46:42go damn that guy can hit yeah that's always how
- 46:46i've judged um just because uh it's a little
- 46:50bit of a carryover from watching mma where it's
- 46:52like damage is supposed to be the the key component
- 46:55to your scoring Yeah, it's definitely a big one
- 47:00for some people and I know that's why they really
- 47:02rate a lot of fighters that do Kind of you know,
- 47:06they're happy to get hit three or four times
- 47:07with some light set up shots That means they
- 47:10can win that big counter Now like I think it's
- 47:13Hank Davis and the way he fights and a lot of
- 47:14wood He's built around with and he doesn't mind
- 47:17if he gets peppered with a couple lazy jabs out
- 47:19there so you can play like that and Completely
- 47:24different for some different fighters. I think
- 47:26that's that was probably power of strength early
- 47:28on He was fighting the domestic competition.
- 47:32He would be able to just wait and set up that
- 47:34bigger shot. But, yeah, I don't think that's
- 47:37something that's going to translate to this division.
- 47:39There's going to need to be a lot of change in
- 47:41his own individual approach. Fucking fantastic
- 47:46insight. Yeah, no, it would just be interesting
- 47:49to see how it goes, I think. Because he's got
- 47:52a pretty decent team around him, I think. Like,
- 47:54that Kuparu boxing gym, that's in my city, and
- 47:56they've... Had some pretty good fighters come
- 47:58out of there. They're very technically precise.
- 48:03I think that's what I gather from whenever I've
- 48:05seen those guys spar in a fight scenario. And
- 48:10coming out of that setup, those coaches where
- 48:13he initially was from, that seems to be a lot
- 48:16of his philosophy and just that counterpunching.
- 48:18I think one of the big things that will need
- 48:21to happen in his game though, that's especially
- 48:24being a Southpaw in that division. He's going
- 48:27to defend that jab a lot better. I thought he
- 48:30put a lot more effort into landing his own jabs
- 48:32this time. He seemed happy to try and set things
- 48:34up off the lead hand and off the check hook.
- 48:36I thought, okay, he's being a bit more traditional
- 48:39here. If you go back and watch that Hitchens
- 48:41fight, watch what he's doing with his lead hand.
- 48:43He's waving that shit everywhere. It's one minute,
- 48:47it's above his forehead. The next minute, it's
- 48:49under it. He's constantly waving it, trying to
- 48:51trick Hitchens. Sometimes that rhythm works.
- 48:55Sometimes it works, but against a guy who just
- 48:57has a straight person of a jab, that's not going
- 48:59to work because they're just going to keep popping
- 49:00the shit out. You know, guys like Hitchens, that's
- 49:02been his bread and butter for his entire career,
- 49:04you know, since Amateurs. He's just going to
- 49:06pop that out all fight. So no amount of deception
- 49:09is going to stop him. Seeing him go away from
- 49:13that was something I thought was really promising,
- 49:15where he just fought with this traditional guard,
- 49:18you know, wanted to frame out a bit, was happy
- 49:21to move, use the ring. I think it's a new style
- 49:24for him. I think it's a different one and he'll
- 49:26need to adjust into it a bit. But I think interesting
- 49:30really is just the best word for it because it
- 49:34was very different to what I expected him to
- 49:35do. How much do you think Papo being a lefty
- 49:40as well? Because usually lefties struggle with
- 49:44lefties, don't they? Yeah, they can because you've
- 49:49got the same orthodox... fighting principles
- 49:51but the difference between an orthodox fighting
- 49:53an orthodox and a lefty fighting lefty is that
- 49:56orthodox is basically 90 of the time they go
- 49:59against or as a lefty you know as a southpaw
- 50:02you might spy a southpaw very very rarely and
- 50:06you have to be able to understand your basic
- 50:09orthodox boxing stance principles and then apply
- 50:15them again and for some guys who are able to
- 50:19hit in both they love that right like you look
- 50:21at corporate suspense and how he approached that
- 50:24he knew that that body jab was there whereas
- 50:26i think with pyro there was a new experience
- 50:30for him i think he knew what he was getting into
- 50:32but proposal really he's hard to pick off with
- 50:36his rhythm you know he can fight a few different
- 50:38ways and i think that's what pyro kind of He
- 50:42was trying to figure out how he was going to
- 50:44approach things, but because he wasn't getting
- 50:46the usual shots and angles back, then it changed
- 50:49the way that he counted completely different.
- 50:52You know, like if he came into that fight with
- 50:54the same things that he had worked on with, you
- 50:56know, the lead hand control and the check hook
- 50:58and using the ring, if he had those elements
- 51:01and was just going against a similarly sized
- 51:05orthodox, I think that would have worked really
- 51:08pretty for him. Obviously, it's just a completely
- 51:11different kind of fight. But I think it's one
- 51:14that for the development of Poe, I think that
- 51:17was a really good fight for him to have. I think
- 51:20for him to be able to walk out of that with that
- 51:22experience and with a win is good. But I'm more
- 51:26interested to see what happens with the title
- 51:29fight discussions because I think that was the
- 51:31division. Was that where Boots? Yeah, he just
- 51:35left. Yeah. I tell you what, I don't want to
- 51:39get into how far over his boots would go. That
- 51:41would be inhumane. Because, yeah, I don't know
- 51:45who else is in that division that they're looking
- 51:46at stepping up. But that'll be really interesting
- 51:49to see. Because I'll be honest, I think a lot
- 51:55of the guys, I don't think Papo is one of the
- 51:57bigger or the harder hitting guys in that division.
- 52:01So for him to look like he was getting hurt there,
- 52:06it does raise some questions. The eye is going
- 52:12to be a big question too, if that's going to
- 52:14be a recurring theme moving forward. You can't
- 52:22get into those walls every fight. He's at a stage
- 52:26of his career where maybe he can afford a few
- 52:28because he's been boxing for a while now. But
- 52:30you don't want to be doing that every single
- 52:32time you step in. Because that's just going to
- 52:33take away his longevity. Especially because he
- 52:36thinks he has a future in this division. I'm
- 52:37assuming that's why he's moved there. he's not
- 52:41going to be able to just run that back and do
- 52:43that sort of fight every single time. It seems
- 52:46to me that his approach in terms of being more
- 52:49defensively responsible with the head movement,
- 52:51the footwork, it's all there. But having the
- 52:54right approach and then actually having it are
- 52:57different things. So we'll really just have to
- 53:01see how he goes against a different competition
- 53:02because, you know, it's a sport with levels in
- 53:05it. And we saw the levels when it came to him
- 53:07versus Hitchens. on things like lead hand control
- 53:10because kitchens understood that to a t like
- 53:13he fought a textbook fight he was just landing
- 53:16the jab he just kept landing kept landing kept
- 53:19landing and then he had that right hand in the
- 53:21chamber so whenever paro wanted to kind of slip
- 53:24onto that you know inside of the jab it was waiting
- 53:28right for him and paro who tries to counter with
- 53:31the head movement it was a bit of a strange it
- 53:33was a difficult fight for him so i think he was
- 53:35being a bit more responsible but It didn't pay
- 53:39off as well as it should if he wants to continue
- 53:42in that division. Well, this has been really
- 53:52insightful. Nah, I don't know. I thought a lot
- 53:57about that fight. It was not what I expected.
- 54:01Still, it was good to get an insider's view.
- 54:07Plus, man, I appreciate it so much, and thanks
- 54:10for having me back on to talk about it. Yeah,
- 54:12of course. We'll have you on for something else.
- 54:15Actually, there might be another one I want to
- 54:17talk to you about later, but it's Sharnika. Oh,
- 54:21yes. I want to talk to you about her and the
- 54:25possibility of Gabby Fandora moving up. Ooh.
- 54:30That's the kind of thought I want to see. Yeah.
- 54:34That would be outstanding. I hope that happens.
- 54:39I think both of them will be up for that because
- 54:40Fandora, she's real good. But I think Shanika,
- 54:44her last couple of years of development have
- 54:45seen her in a really good spot as well. All right.
- 54:51Well, I have to get back to this and I will let
- 54:55you go. But it was good talking with you. Thank
- 54:58you very much. Of course. I appreciate it so
- 55:01much. Thanks, man. Have a good day. Take care.
- 55:04Moving to Saturday, September 20th. Much to my
- 55:12dismay, Mickey Scala drops the ball. Stoppage
- 55:17in two. Oh, my God. Mickey. What? What the fuck?
- 55:25What the fuck, dog? Oh, man. Jose Perdomo. Gets
- 55:33the stoppage into stoppage win into there are
- 55:38in calling for an immediate rematch and they're
- 55:43calling it a lucky shot that got Scala buzzed.
- 55:49Yeah, was it? And I'm really I'm doing the the
- 55:55Jacobs no Masparo. sort of movement here. Like,
- 56:00yeah, that's exactly what did it, right? It was
- 56:03just like a lucky punch. I'm just really trying
- 56:09to believe that there was something else going
- 56:13on and it wasn't just that Mickey Scala got fucking
- 56:15popped and did not understand how to defend himself.
- 56:21He didn't know how to be in trouble. And that's
- 56:28not something you can kind of like be taught,
- 56:31I don't think. That's something that I remember.
- 56:36Who was it? Tim Bradley used to talk about being
- 56:42taught how to be in trouble. Yeah. Because nobody
- 56:47wants to believe I'll get buzzed. nobody of course
- 56:52you will yeah and but you will exactly you will
- 56:56get caught you will get tagged no matter how
- 57:00good you are as you get as you climb the ranks
- 57:04as you get better so do the opponents and the
- 57:09chances of you getting tagged of you getting
- 57:11buzzed only increase But it doesn't seem that
- 57:18Mickey Scala has had that moment in his training
- 57:22yet. Hopefully he learned his lesson this time.
- 57:29I want to believe that he did. If I have to go
- 57:35over to... I know where his gym is. Go over and
- 57:41smack him yourself. Teach him how to get in trouble.
- 57:45How it is to be in trouble and how do you defend
- 57:49yourself when you're in trouble? If I have to,
- 57:53then I will. Coach Leo. I try not to pull that
- 58:02thing, pull that tag out of the bag. But when
- 58:06it comes to fucking Mickey, this was like the
- 58:11hope for my city. Ugh. This is disappointing.
- 58:20And it makes me think like he's not getting the
- 58:25full spectrum of coaching. And that's where I'm
- 58:29like, fuck. If I have to go down to your fucking
- 58:32gym and teach you, then that's what we're doing.
- 58:35Something is wrong. If I have to do this, then
- 58:38something is very clearly missing. But whatever,
- 58:44man, whatever it takes to get you back on top,
- 58:46dog. I'm here. I'm here to help you. Moving to
- 58:54a real quick one. Gabriela Fandora ass beating
- 59:01over Alexis. As expected. As expected. It's unfortunate.
- 59:14That Fundora beats that ass as hard as she did
- 59:19because Alexis Kubicki, she's fighting today
- 59:25as we're recording. But it was Naomi Valle's
- 59:32opponent. Let me look. I want to get the name
- 59:37right. Naomi Valle. Federica Macri. So, Federica
- 59:52Macri got her ass beat by Kubicki. So, it was
- 59:58just like, I don't know. Having common opponents,
- 1:00:03maybe one of these women will be worthwhile for
- 1:00:09Gabriela Fundora. But, Reality is that they're
- 1:00:14fucking not. Gabi's one of those people that
- 1:00:19just doesn't have the dance partners. She's gonna
- 1:00:22have to go up or down. If she goes up, her only
- 1:00:26real option is Mimi. Mizuki. Yeah, Gabi beats
- 1:00:33the fuck out of Mimi. I love Mimi, but I don't
- 1:00:37think that's a very close fight. I love Mimi
- 1:00:39too. Keep sending letters like, hey, let's hang
- 1:00:47out sometime. It doesn't matter because Gabby
- 1:00:53Fundora is going to beat that ass. Ass beating.
- 1:01:00This is annoying. So there's three or four websites
- 1:01:05where it's really easy to get all of the standings
- 1:01:08for the men together. And I don't think there
- 1:01:11is one for the women's, where it has all the
- 1:01:14champions in the rankings. Not having them all
- 1:01:18in one place, no. That's really fucking annoying.
- 1:01:22And it's not that difficult to do. BoxRec does
- 1:01:26it, but they exclude the WBA. That's the unfortunate.
- 1:01:34But I mean, for the men's, there's like five
- 1:01:37different ones that are super easy to... just
- 1:01:39click on and they're well put together. These
- 1:01:41women's ones are garbage. I was trying to see
- 1:01:46who's one weight class above her other than Mimi.
- 1:01:59Naomi Valle is the younger sister of Yacosta.
- 1:02:13Elaine Ruiz I've seen, but Gabby just beats the
- 1:02:15crap out of her too. Yeah, I don't know what
- 1:02:24to do with Fundora. She's just too good. No,
- 1:02:31but she is. She is. I chuckle, but she is. If
- 1:02:37she went up to 118, Trinica Johnson might be
- 1:02:41a good fight. But that's jumping two weight classes.
- 1:02:45I honestly still rate Gabrielle LaFleur over.
- 1:02:48I do too. But I'm just saying like Gabby doesn't
- 1:02:56have to chase people. That's where you start
- 1:02:59finding challenges. Yeah. Is moving up two, three,
- 1:03:05four divisions. Which is unfortunate. It is unfortunate.
- 1:03:17I think Gabby is... I think she already knows
- 1:03:23that's what I'm going to have to do to achieve
- 1:03:28the greatness that I know that I'm worthy of
- 1:03:33or deserving of. I'm going to have to move up
- 1:03:36two, three, four divisions. It helps that she
- 1:03:44has the height. I was gonna say, she has the
- 1:03:47frame. Yeah, she has the height to do it. She
- 1:03:49should be fine. So... I believe... I believe
- 1:03:58in Gabi Fundoro. She's fucking good, man. She
- 1:04:02is. Speaking of... Are they that good? Oscar
- 1:04:11Collazo. Verse... Jason... Oh, let me... Jason
- 1:04:18Vason. I don't care how they pronounced it on
- 1:04:21the fucking broadcast. It's Jason Vason. Thank
- 1:04:24you. I was going to say Jason Vison. No. That's
- 1:04:30how they said it on the broadcast. I don't give
- 1:04:33a shit how they said it on the broadcast. If
- 1:04:37it's Vison, he's Jason Vison. His parents spelt
- 1:04:43his name like that so they would rhyme. Jason
- 1:04:47Basin. The actor, Sean Bean? No, no, no. It's
- 1:04:54either Scene Bean or Sean Bond. Exactly. Make
- 1:05:02a decision, asshole. Right. Oscar Collazo. This
- 1:05:09was a weird main event. It wasn't a weird main
- 1:05:13event. It was a good fight. I really enjoyed
- 1:05:16the fight while it was happening. But it was
- 1:05:18a weird corner stoppage that has caused some
- 1:05:21controversy. Or not controversy, but within Jason
- 1:05:26Vason's camp, controversy. He came out after
- 1:05:33the fact and was really... I don't know, dismissive
- 1:05:41or apologetic about his corner stopping the fight.
- 1:05:49I'm really trying to figure out what the right
- 1:05:52words are. Yeah. So I guess we should start at
- 1:05:55the beginning because I know a bunch of people
- 1:05:57probably didn't watch this one being minimum
- 1:05:59weights. Of course. But it was a good fight.
- 1:06:02So Jason Vason was landing some bombs, but Collazo
- 1:06:07was wearing them well. And Collazo was hitting
- 1:06:11Vason with probably not as hard of shots, but
- 1:06:15he was getting wobbled and hurt multiple times.
- 1:06:21And I rewatched it this morning just to make
- 1:06:24sure I could talk about it properly. And I do
- 1:06:27think there must have been something a little
- 1:06:29off because... who's the ref thomas taylor started
- 1:06:34checking on jason in the corner after the fifth
- 1:06:39and he would come over and talk to him and talk
- 1:06:42to the coaches and make sure he's okay so i think
- 1:06:45there must have been something that people were
- 1:06:48seeing in the ring about him being more hurt
- 1:06:51than maybe it looked on the broadcast like maybe
- 1:06:55he wasn't talking well or something and he did
- 1:06:58get buzzed a few times And in the sixth round,
- 1:07:02he looked pretty hurt, actually. And he wasn't
- 1:07:06walking great going back to the corner. Now,
- 1:07:10all that being said, it was not the head coach
- 1:07:14that stopped it. It was the chief second that
- 1:07:18stopped the fight. And the head coach was pissed
- 1:07:20about it. During, like, during the broadcast,
- 1:07:23he was yelling at him. And they're like, no,
- 1:07:26we didn't stop the fight. And the ref's like,
- 1:07:29nah, he stopped the fight. Like, there's no take
- 1:07:31backs in boxing. So. Yeah. But, I will say, Colossal
- 1:07:40was getting tagged. Like, Jason was doing pretty
- 1:07:45good work. I did not expect it to be that close
- 1:07:48a fight. But. Kalaza was taking the punches way
- 1:07:51better, hands down. Like, Jason was getting wobbled
- 1:07:55and looking hurt, but he was throwing back bombs
- 1:07:59and fucking landing them. So, I don't know, it
- 1:08:03was a really good competitive fight. And that,
- 1:08:06I don't know if that plays a factor or not, but
- 1:08:11Vason had been, he fought all the way up at 115
- 1:08:17for a few fights. So I wonder if he didn't maybe
- 1:08:20have not a great weight cut, and that's why one
- 1:08:24of his coaches was more worried about him than
- 1:08:26maybe everybody else was. That adds a wrinkle
- 1:08:32that I was not aware of. Let me double check,
- 1:08:37but I'm pretty sure he fought up at 115 for a
- 1:08:39little while. But, I mean, he didn't look super
- 1:08:42weight -drained. He looked okay. He was up at
- 1:08:46112, not 115. Oh, no, he did have one fight at
- 1:08:51115, and then he went back down to 112. And then
- 1:08:55he went down to... Yeah, he was up at 115 for
- 1:09:00one fight, and then down to 108, and then 112,
- 1:09:04and then 108, 108. And then his weights aren't
- 1:09:07listed for two fights in Thailand. So, I'm assuming
- 1:09:12they were 105 fights, maybe? Maybe. Yeah, I saw
- 1:09:18Jason Basin at the fights in Osaka, I think.
- 1:09:24When I went. I'm pretty sure that's the event
- 1:09:26I was at. And he was fighting at 108. Jason Basin.
- 1:09:34Fucking great name. I love it. It is. But just
- 1:09:39in general, I wonder if maybe there's some stuff
- 1:09:41kind of behind the scenes that we... are unaware
- 1:09:46of that makes this not a terrible stoppage and
- 1:09:50the fact that the ref was checking on him for
- 1:09:52two rounds ahead of time makes me think that
- 1:09:55maybe there were some signs in the ring that
- 1:09:58didn't come across on the broadcast perhaps because
- 1:10:02usually like usually thomas taylor doesn't go
- 1:10:05do that especially not at the beginning of fights
- 1:10:08and if he is doing it he does it to both corners
- 1:10:11he's a good he never he never checked on collazo
- 1:10:16He went over and he tried talking to Jason, who
- 1:10:19didn't answer him, and then he was talking to
- 1:10:21the coach. And a couple times he turned to the
- 1:10:23doctor and said, the coroner says he's fine.
- 1:10:26So this is watching it back in hindsight. I wouldn't
- 1:10:30have probably noticed if I didn't know that it
- 1:10:33was a controversial stoppage. But Thomas Taylor
- 1:10:37checking on him that much and, like, giving the
- 1:10:39doctor a heads up, like, they say he's okay.
- 1:10:43Makes me think maybe it's not that bad a corner
- 1:10:46stoppage. Well, you're the expert. For me, when
- 1:10:52it comes to the smaller weight classes, I defer
- 1:10:55to your opinion. It was a really good competitive
- 1:10:59fight. That's what I saw. A good competitive
- 1:11:03fight. I would also rather have it stop too soon
- 1:11:07than too late. Oh, well, with what we've seen
- 1:11:11in Japan. and also Ghana. Yeah, and that sixth
- 1:11:16and seventh round, Collazo was starting to put
- 1:11:19the beating on his ass. He could have gone more
- 1:11:23rounds. I'm sure he could have. But I'm also
- 1:11:27relatively sure that he was going to lose that
- 1:11:30fight. Unless he magically landed something big,
- 1:11:35which he could. Like, Vason has power for 105.
- 1:11:40But... Kalazo was wearing the punches really
- 1:11:42well. I would say it's a fun fight to go watch
- 1:11:47for those seven rounds that it existed. There's
- 1:11:53a lot of cool little angles and shit. Kalazo
- 1:11:56hits some great angles. He's really good at that
- 1:11:59duck under quarter step to the corner and then
- 1:12:04the body shot underneath. He's really good at
- 1:12:07that. And Basin was landing some really solid
- 1:12:11power shots like you had mentioned. He was. Yeah,
- 1:12:15yeah. And the great thing about the little guys
- 1:12:20is they were both throwing combinations and just
- 1:12:22punching in between each other. Which is always
- 1:12:26fun. Alright. If there's anything else... No.
- 1:12:35That's all we got on the docket. There's nothing
- 1:12:38upcoming at all? Not for this week. That's crazy.
- 1:12:45Yeah. There is minor stuff, but nothing. Okay.
- 1:12:53I trust you, Leo. It's not very often that there's
- 1:12:56nothing. Yeah, it's a rare thing, but it happens
- 1:13:00towards the end of the year. November, December
- 1:13:04is starting to look good. Yeah, for sure. And
- 1:13:07even mid -October is solid. So it's just right
- 1:13:16now. Not a lot coming up. But it's all right
- 1:13:21because we've had some good stuff pass by. And
- 1:13:26there's going to be news. Always news. Are we
- 1:13:32good? I think we're good. Okay, no parting words
- 1:13:36this week? Yeah, that's actually exactly what
- 1:13:39I was going to get to, was parting words. Parting
- 1:13:45words. If we have nothing else, then that's where
- 1:13:48we're at. Try a new drink this season. I've been
- 1:13:53branching out away from just beers. But even
- 1:13:58if you don't drink alcohol, go try a new juice.
- 1:14:00There's so many juices out there that I've never
- 1:14:02tried. I'm sure some of them are not terrible.
- 1:14:06I tried melon milk. Disappointing. I thought
- 1:14:10it would be better. Melon milk? Yeah, you know,
- 1:14:14like strawberry milk? Yeah, yeah. But it's those
- 1:14:16green honeydew melons they have in Japan. I thought
- 1:14:22I would really like it. I did not. But I tried
- 1:14:26it, and now I know I don't like it. Well, I'm
- 1:14:29going to throw out a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.
- 1:14:36We aim above the mark to hit the mark. Oh. Super
- 1:14:43helpful. I know. Shoot for the moon and you'll
- 1:14:47land in the stars? Yeah, basically. That's what
- 1:14:50Emerson was going for. It's not bad advice. But
- 1:14:59if that's going to do it for this edition, then
- 1:15:02that's going to do it for this edition.
