- 2:53Speaker 1: is the Oprah Win for network. The show chronicles a
- 2:56Speaker 1: couple who met and fall in love in Los Angeles,
- 2:59Speaker 1: with the full season spanning five years and eight episodes.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Please welcome to Money Making Conversation Zoe Show, Rockemore and
- 3:07Speaker 1: Alano Miller. Come on, now, come on now, how y'all doing? Now? Good?
- 3:15Speaker 1: First of all, you first first time on the show? Um,
- 3:18Speaker 1: you know, you know, I saw the show from the
- 3:21Speaker 1: beginning and when it came out. You know, I'm a
- 3:24Speaker 1: big fan of Ava, and uh, just just to get
- 3:27Speaker 1: people a little background, Uh so show you were on
- 3:29Speaker 1: the Mendy Project, correct, Yes, I was seasons So tell
- 3:34Speaker 1: us a little bit about that. That experience before we
- 3:36Speaker 1: break down everything. And I'm gonna ask you the same question,
- 3:38Speaker 1: Alano about Underground. Oh, the mini project was so fun
- 3:44Speaker 1: and amazing. I love everybody over there. Um. Mindy Kaling
- 3:48Speaker 1: is an amazing woman and artistic mogul and brilliant writer.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So to get to work with her was super cool
- 3:58Speaker 1: and we just had a good time. It was a
- 4:00Speaker 1: half hour comedy, a lot of improvising. Will be on
- 4:04Speaker 1: set Roland just like dying and it is having a
- 4:07Speaker 1: great time pretty much every day. So that was super fun. Okay,
- 4:11Speaker 1: you can't get to that's a sitcom basically. And then
- 4:14Speaker 1: all of a sudden we got my man, Alana Miller
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Underground Way different, way different there. He's out there
- 4:21Speaker 1: in this in the sun, my friend. Yeah, I was
- 4:25Speaker 1: up there and that sun. Um, it was you know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: it was a tough show. It's a challenging show. Um,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but I was really honored to have a chance to
- 4:32Speaker 1: continue to change the narrative of slavery um and uh,
- 4:36Speaker 1: you know, really promote the fact that they are these
- 4:38Speaker 1: superheroes that that lived and breathe here on this planet,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and that there were real people and that they really
- 4:44Speaker 1: paved the way for us to be where we are today.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So um, to be a part of that journey was amazing.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Of course, you know Misha Green, she is like one
- 4:52Speaker 1: of my favorite human beings of the creator of Underground
- 4:55Speaker 1: and uh, you know, I walked away with a lot
- 4:57Speaker 1: of friends from that set, so sad that it's gone,
- 5:00Speaker 1: but I'm glad to be a part of the move.
- 5:03Speaker 1: The movement absolutely there. It's really important when I hear
- 5:06Speaker 1: both of you guys talking, I hear the word relationships,
- 5:10Speaker 1: you know, being a key conversation and also the environment
- 5:13Speaker 1: you that you worked on in those previous relationships. And
- 5:16Speaker 1: I always tell people in my in my business, I've
- 5:18Speaker 1: been very successful in entertainment and the way from entertainment,
- 5:21Speaker 1: and I find the relationships are really the key and
- 5:24Speaker 1: how you maintain them is the key for longevity. Correct. Yeah,
- 5:28Speaker 1: I think that's definitely one of the keys. Yeah, it's
- 5:32Speaker 1: about being able to um, you know, investing yourself, but
- 5:36Speaker 1: also investing relationships. I mean you never know, um, you
- 5:39Speaker 1: don't do it for the fact of you know where
- 5:42Speaker 1: you what you're gonna get from them, but you you
- 5:44Speaker 1: invest in relationships because you want to be challenged, you
- 5:46Speaker 1: want to be sharpened, and uh, you wanna you want
- 5:49Speaker 1: to learn more and become a better person, better artists,
- 5:52Speaker 1: whatever it is. And so you just do just stay
- 5:54Speaker 1: open and be a sponge. Cool. Okay, we're talking. I'm
- 5:57Speaker 1: talking to those Rockemore and Alono Miller, stars of the
- 6:00Speaker 1: own a television series Cherished Today. Now, they gave me
- 6:05Speaker 1: a quick description. This is the narrative will unfold to
- 6:07Speaker 1: reveal significant moments in a relationship that compail us the whole,
- 6:11Speaker 1: true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to
- 6:14Speaker 1: the every day. Now, that's what they sit over to me.
- 6:18Speaker 1: This is my takeaway from this series. When I watch
- 6:20Speaker 1: I watched so far. It's a show about trust. It's
- 6:24Speaker 1: a show about follow your passion. Don't live your life
- 6:28Speaker 1: through other people's dreams. Don't judge based on your perception.
- 6:35Speaker 1: It's all right to be different. It's all right to
- 6:37Speaker 1: dress different, it's all right to talk different, it's all
- 6:40Speaker 1: right to dream different. And more importantly, a real relationship
- 6:44Speaker 1: is more than good sex. Yeah. And and the reason
- 6:51Speaker 1: the reason I pull those things out of because that
- 6:54Speaker 1: really is what my main conversation is all about. I
- 6:56Speaker 1: always talking about follow your passion. I always say lead
- 6:59Speaker 1: with your gifts and that that that tone keeps ringing
- 7:02Speaker 1: over and over because you guys are a very distinctive personality.
- 7:07Speaker 1: So starting with you, Josha, explain to everybody your character,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and then a Lana follow up with yours, so we
- 7:12Speaker 1: can just started developing this show concept of the people
- 7:15Speaker 1: who may have never heard of the show that we
- 7:17Speaker 1: want to drive them to the show and realized they
- 7:18Speaker 1: have missing something special and they should they should go
- 7:22Speaker 1: to the backlogs and and catch up because it's because
- 7:24Speaker 1: it's one of them, because it's one of them serious
- 7:26Speaker 1: where you just can't stop in. You just can't drop
- 7:28Speaker 1: in this series. You can't dropping episode five, you know
- 7:33Speaker 1: you because you gotta go to that one and and
- 7:35Speaker 1: and and just build that information of love because because
- 7:38Speaker 1: because Zoh got some some character flaws in there, and uh,
- 7:41Speaker 1: my man Alana character, he got some character flaws. But
- 7:44Speaker 1: that's what makes a beautiful couple, that's what makes this
- 7:46Speaker 1: serious so perfect. So so should tell us about your
- 7:49Speaker 1: character gently Okay, my character gently games she's a free spirit.
- 7:54Speaker 1: She's from South Los Angeles. He threw up, why is that?
- 8:00Speaker 1: Because I've lived in Los Angeles fifteen years. I knew
- 8:03Speaker 1: exactly what South Los Angeles? What's Los Angeles? Yeah, yeah,
- 8:07Speaker 1: she's from South delay from the West Adams area specifically. Um,
- 8:13Speaker 1: she wasn't her background with a little it wasn't traditional.
- 8:17Speaker 1: She didn't really have her parents. Um, but she has
- 8:21Speaker 1: this network of people who uncles were like her parents
- 8:26Speaker 1: for her, and those are like her loved ones. So
- 8:28Speaker 1: she kind of have like a maid family. Um, she's
- 8:31Speaker 1: a world traveler and she's just a woman kind of
- 8:35Speaker 1: like taking life as it comes and doing things on
- 8:37Speaker 1: her own time, in her own way, with her own flavor.
- 8:40Speaker 1: And then she meets this guy who kind of challenges
- 8:45Speaker 1: everything that she thought she was about. And hold hold on,
- 8:49Speaker 1: let me stay on for a minute, because I don't
- 8:51Speaker 1: want to be now so watching your character, you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I I sised a large amount of fear. That's why
- 8:59Speaker 1: I talked by trust and yeah, and I don't want
- 9:02Speaker 1: to give away too much of the character lay out
- 9:04Speaker 1: of why you have those trust issues. And while you
- 9:07Speaker 1: while you are traveling, while you, like I said, you know,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you're a frog without a pad to stay on. You know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: you just keep hopping. But I think I think Vientley's background,
- 9:18Speaker 1: UM have some trauma in it, and I think the
- 9:21Speaker 1: trauma led her to not trust people as well. Um
- 9:26Speaker 1: or Yeah, She's like she got traumatized pretty early in
- 9:29Speaker 1: her youth and she's kind of carried that with her
- 9:31Speaker 1: and it manifested a lot of one way that it
- 9:34Speaker 1: manifests her not being able to trust easily. It manifests
- 9:39Speaker 1: her wanting to get as far away from where she
- 9:42Speaker 1: came from as possible and kind of just see the
- 9:44Speaker 1: whole world and become a more worldly person who's not
- 9:48Speaker 1: just you know, in South l A for her own
- 9:51Speaker 1: entire life. Because I think she saw very early on
- 9:53Speaker 1: that like if she stayed there and got into that world,
- 9:57Speaker 1: maybe you know, she wouldn't and that where she really
- 10:00Speaker 1: be right, because your personality drives that character, that that
- 10:03Speaker 1: that worldliness, you know, that ability to you know, like
- 10:06Speaker 1: I said, you know, go from Germany to go from
- 10:08Speaker 1: some different places that allowed you to like either be
- 10:11Speaker 1: a waitress here or just anything work gonna work work
- 10:14Speaker 1: at a park or a lifeguard or whatever this location
- 10:18Speaker 1: just to earn money for the experience, like you said
- 10:21Speaker 1: in the in the in the show, one place, she
- 10:23Speaker 1: was only there for one day. Then you hopped out
- 10:25Speaker 1: because the earthquake, you can jump up, and it was
- 10:28Speaker 1: just I just I just really loved the writing and
- 10:32Speaker 1: in the style of it that with your character, because
- 10:35Speaker 1: it's important that you bought into the character. So talk
- 10:38Speaker 1: about how that's a whole process as an actress, getting
- 10:42Speaker 1: the script and you're making that character yours. Um. Well,
- 10:47Speaker 1: when I first got the script and the looking at
- 10:50Speaker 1: the character, she was just very relatable to me. So
- 10:53Speaker 1: I had a really a pretty easy end too. Generally,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I didn't have to, like I did a lot of work,
- 10:58Speaker 1: but are understands her because I kind of innately did.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I didn't have a traumatic background like she did in
- 11:05Speaker 1: that way, Um, I have my own trauma in other ways.
- 11:09Speaker 1: To everyone that I'm from South l A. My own self,
- 11:13Speaker 1: I'm from I grew up in the Crunshaw area. My
- 11:16Speaker 1: mom and them are from Compton, so I knew what
- 11:19Speaker 1: it meant to be from Compton, but not like not
- 11:24Speaker 1: up Compton, whatever people think that means. I feel like
- 11:26Speaker 1: whenever we see these areas like represented and media as
- 11:29Speaker 1: always about gang bang and or like about folks not
- 11:32Speaker 1: having enough money for food and things like that. But
- 11:34Speaker 1: I was like, I'm from Compton and we always have food.
- 11:37Speaker 1: And I was private school and I went to n
- 11:39Speaker 1: y U. So I felt like I got to bring
- 11:40Speaker 1: a lot of that gently the fact that she was
- 11:43Speaker 1: from you know, West Adams, but she's like then to
- 11:46Speaker 1: Greece multiple times, like done all these things. I felt
- 11:49Speaker 1: like I was just really realistic. She was a whole
- 11:51Speaker 1: person um and a black girl, and we don't see
- 11:55Speaker 1: that often, a whole black woman, And I thought that
- 11:58Speaker 1: was important too in that character. I said, being that
- 12:01Speaker 1: I lived in l A for fifteen years, every neighborhood
- 12:03Speaker 1: that you're talking about, and I did radio in l A,
- 12:05Speaker 1: so I knew how people perception of during life or
- 12:10Speaker 1: you know, being in Compton drive bys, you know, being
- 12:13Speaker 1: in South l A or whatever, you know, crunch your area.
- 12:16Speaker 1: You know, we don't go over there at night, don't
- 12:18Speaker 1: go over there, and even black people would even question
- 12:21Speaker 1: the community. And so you have to deal with that.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And then I'm gonna shift over to the reason I
- 12:26Speaker 1: wanted to set your character up a little bit more
- 12:27Speaker 1: because a lot of those those values you talk about,
- 12:31Speaker 1: those perceptions were built into Orlano's character. And that's what
- 12:35Speaker 1: I loved about it, because he really played that character
- 12:39Speaker 1: through the form and that's what I loved the body.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Talk to us about your character, which is Evan. Well, yeah,
- 12:46Speaker 1: so Evan Fisher is um, I mean completely the opposite. Um.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You know, he has a tech background. He is uh
- 12:56Speaker 1: uh you know mom dad very successful, still very successful,
- 13:02Speaker 1: uh for class background, went to Stanford. You know. It
- 13:06Speaker 1: feels like a guy who's done everything right, at least
- 13:08Speaker 1: what he thinks is right. You know. So he has
- 13:10Speaker 1: a he lives within a box. He's confined, and he's
- 13:14Speaker 1: uh been conditioned to look at the world from a
- 13:17Speaker 1: specific point of view. And um doesn't live you know,
- 13:20Speaker 1: isn't from South um l A. But he is from Torrance, California,
- 13:25Speaker 1: which is you know, a place that is that has culture,
- 13:29Speaker 1: but it is not you know, known for its people
- 13:32Speaker 1: of color. Let's say like this, and you know, he
- 13:36Speaker 1: is again a person who when he bumps into gently
- 13:39Speaker 1: is knocked off his off his feet because he sees
- 13:43Speaker 1: how she is independent and she owns her you know,
- 13:46Speaker 1: her space. He wants yes, but the library. Yes, at
- 13:50Speaker 1: the library, and but he wants to do the same
- 13:52Speaker 1: thing he you know, he's he feels like he needs
- 13:55Speaker 1: to be broken out of his mindset and so he
- 13:58Speaker 1: looks at this woman with all these notions of who
- 14:00Speaker 1: she probably is, and then she breaks that stereotype and
- 14:04Speaker 1: she's you know, well traveled and cultured, and she's educated,
- 14:08Speaker 1: and she's she just has all these other things. And
- 14:11Speaker 1: so for him it's like, Wow, she's yes, And you
- 14:13Speaker 1: don't have to look a certain way or present yourself
- 14:16Speaker 1: to the world a certain way. You can be all
- 14:18Speaker 1: of those things. You can have the culture and the
- 14:21Speaker 1: class and h and also still be from West Adams
- 14:25Speaker 1: and you know, and and breaking uh, those those notions
- 14:28Speaker 1: that we have that we look at each other like.
- 14:30Speaker 1: So I think that for him he is excited to
- 14:34Speaker 1: meet someone like her who is challenging the way that
- 14:38Speaker 1: he sees the world and sees people. Right, you know,
- 14:40Speaker 1: it's it's really let's let's go back to the beginning.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to break for a minute there in
- 14:45Speaker 1: a minute here, but I want to explain to everybody.
- 14:47Speaker 1: The show opens up with a pretty centual scene between
- 14:52Speaker 1: this and played out separately by the two League characters,
- 14:55Speaker 1: and it's involved sex. But but that I think that
- 14:58Speaker 1: was important to set it up because let you know,
- 15:00Speaker 1: where their life was at that point. It wasn't emotionally driven.
- 15:03Speaker 1: It was just physically driven these previous relationships and so
- 15:07Speaker 1: and I thought that was really interesting that that got
- 15:09Speaker 1: set up because it happened at the same time. And
- 15:11Speaker 1: I love the way, you know, we always saying we
- 15:14Speaker 1: never know who we're going to meet and when we're
- 15:16Speaker 1: supposed to meet them when we meet. Because the thing
- 15:18Speaker 1: about it, when when you first saw her at the library,
- 15:21Speaker 1: it was physicality that attracted you to it because the
- 15:24Speaker 1: guy pointed it out to you. And it wasn't when
- 15:26Speaker 1: you until you got to talk to her, when you
- 15:29Speaker 1: when you were trying to get her to move away,
- 15:31Speaker 1: that you realize, Okay, she's more than just a physical presence.
- 15:35Speaker 1: She's a she's funny, she's quick with it. She didn't
- 15:38Speaker 1: want to set your money. You know, she stood her ground,
- 15:42Speaker 1: and I think that was important in the earlier going
- 15:44Speaker 1: to set those boundaries that I can't be bought, my
- 15:48Speaker 1: ideas can't be bought, my my beliefs can't be bought
- 15:51Speaker 1: nor and you have to understand. And you respected her
- 15:54Speaker 1: and backed down. So when I asked you the questions, osho,
- 15:56Speaker 1: how important? How important was that moment? I mean it
- 16:03Speaker 1: was I guess what they call in the script the
- 16:05Speaker 1: inciting incident. So it was very important. It is the
- 16:10Speaker 1: thing that brought these two together or that you know,
- 16:12Speaker 1: that's when they first crossed, that that was the havmic connection,
- 16:17Speaker 1: that was the moment. It was super important. It's finally
- 16:20Speaker 1: here the season of celebration, and no matter how you

- 18:22Speaker 1: I see a lot of quality program come on television,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and uh, this show, if I'll be stunned if it's
- 18:27Speaker 1: not an Emmy nominated show, and if it gets nominated,
- 18:31Speaker 1: it should win. We're talking to the two of the
- 18:33Speaker 1: lead cast members for the Aba douven A new show,
- 18:37Speaker 1: Cherish Today is on Own, which is the Open Winfrey
- 18:39Speaker 1: Networking and catch it every Tuesday, nine pm West Coast,
- 18:42Speaker 1: East Coast, nine pm Central. Uh. Talking to jose Zosha
- 18:46Speaker 1: Rockemore and my man Alano Miller. Be right back with
- 18:49Speaker 1: more money making conversations. We'll be right back with more
- 18:52Speaker 1: from Mars McDonald and money Making Conversations don't touch that.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations continues online at www dot money Making
- 19:00Speaker 1: conversations dot com and follow money Making Conversations on Facebook, Twitter,
- 19:05Speaker 1: and Instagram. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time you stop thinking
- 19:08Speaker 1: about your dreams and put some plans into action. Hi,
- 19:12Speaker 1: you're listening to Rushan mcdonaland this is money making conversation.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Thing I love about money making conversations. I bring individuals
- 19:18Speaker 1: who are living their craft, who are who challenging themselves
- 19:22Speaker 1: to do what they want to do with their dreams
- 19:24Speaker 1: and not being guided in a different direction. The reason
- 19:27Speaker 1: I love this series Cherished today. It plays out a
- 19:29Speaker 1: lot of those values. The lead character UH played uh
- 19:33Speaker 1: Evan played by my man Alano Miller. His character is
- 19:36Speaker 1: divided by he went to school, he did all the
- 19:38Speaker 1: right things, kind of type of life I left. You know,
- 19:41Speaker 1: I went to college, got my math degree, I went
- 19:43Speaker 1: to work for IBM, and everybody told me that's what
- 19:45Speaker 1: I was supposed to do, and I didn't want to
- 19:47Speaker 1: do that in the end, And when I started to
- 19:49Speaker 1: deviate from that, then people started questioning my beliefs, my integrity.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Uh started saying I was making dumb decisions. And that
- 19:57Speaker 1: played out in a very important scene for you with
- 19:59Speaker 1: your with your sister in the kitchen. Correct Evan, I
- 20:05Speaker 1: wanted to follow a different dream or a different path,
- 20:07Speaker 1: and she saw that as a problem because she felt
- 20:11Speaker 1: like I should just stay where I'm at and and
- 20:13Speaker 1: kind of continue on that journey. When she said that money,
- 20:16Speaker 1: she said about money, though she brought that money, she
- 20:19Speaker 1: sees that money. I mean he's about to be you know,
- 20:21Speaker 1: he just got the promotion to vice president vice president. Yes,
- 20:25Speaker 1: and then, you know, but at the same time, he doesn't.
- 20:28Speaker 1: That's not really his dream. His dream is to to
- 20:30Speaker 1: have start his own company and venture out and start
- 20:33Speaker 1: his app Ziberi that he has been talking about for years.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And uh gently inspires him and encourages him to to
- 20:40Speaker 1: actually take that leap. And that's really important. Let's go
- 20:42Speaker 1: to your character, gently, the character. You start out this
- 20:47Speaker 1: show with an incredible actress, Cecily Tyson. Missy come on,
- 20:53Speaker 1: then I apologize, Miss Tyson, Miss Tyson. Gotta do it right,
- 20:57Speaker 1: gotta do it right. And you know, I'm gonna tell
- 21:00Speaker 1: you some when you you know, um watching. She's funny.
- 21:04Speaker 1: She even shares a little dance with a man Evan character.
- 21:09Speaker 1: You know, she's defiant, she's opinionated. You know, they just
- 21:15Speaker 1: threw her some lives. She's acting. She's acting and she's
- 21:20Speaker 1: dressing up. And you know, recently she was in the
- 21:22Speaker 1: new Tyler period movement Fall from Grace, which she doesn't
- 21:26Speaker 1: that character like oh because she plays beat up, homeless
- 21:29Speaker 1: type looking lady and a Fall from Grace. Talk to
- 21:32Speaker 1: about that relationship and what did you learn and working
- 21:36Speaker 1: with a young lady, you know, Miss Tyson like that,
- 21:39Speaker 1: Miss rock and more. Well, the relationship between Gently and
- 21:43Speaker 1: Miss Luma, which is Miss Tyson's character name, is just
- 21:47Speaker 1: amazing and beautiful. Um. Miss Luma is an actress UH
- 21:52Speaker 1: and singer of the stage and film, but she never
- 21:56Speaker 1: really got the big break that UM know she deserves
- 22:01Speaker 1: because of timing, essentially because of the time it was
- 22:04Speaker 1: and black women weren't getting breaks like that, and especially
- 22:07Speaker 1: chocolate black women. So she went on to be a
- 22:11Speaker 1: teacher in l a unified school district, and then when
- 22:14Speaker 1: her and Gently are together, Gently as her caregiver and
- 22:17Speaker 1: like lives there with her, and she's almost like a
- 22:19Speaker 1: mother figure for Gently because Gently doesn't have a mother,
- 22:22Speaker 1: so it's a dope bymbiotic relationship UM. And working with
- 22:27Speaker 1: Miss Tyson was absolutely amazing. She's so good, she's so beautiful,
- 22:32Speaker 1: she's so present, UM, and she's a brilliant actress and
- 22:36Speaker 1: such a legend and a queen and so it was
- 22:38Speaker 1: just really a loster class each day and just getting
- 22:41Speaker 1: to be around here and just ask her casual questions
- 22:44Speaker 1: and like she would she likes to eat and see
- 22:46Speaker 1: what her process is in terms of approaching a scene.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Like it was just cool to just be there and
- 22:50Speaker 1: observed she's super sleep Um. So yeah, it was definitely
- 22:54Speaker 1: a cool bucket list type moment. It really was interesting
- 22:59Speaker 1: watching you every time you was in the scene where
- 23:02Speaker 1: it was almost felt like it was a genuine relationship.
- 23:05Speaker 1: That's what I would just tell you both, you know,
- 23:07Speaker 1: I'm just tell you both. What what sold me so
- 23:10Speaker 1: much on this series was the chemistry was the I
- 23:14Speaker 1: felt it was a genuine relationship struggle between the two
- 23:19Speaker 1: of you. I felt that you both of you truly
- 23:21Speaker 1: came from different worlds and I understood the differences. And
- 23:26Speaker 1: when I when I say that a lot of your
- 23:28Speaker 1: character played you played the character even on the on
- 23:31Speaker 1: the Serious Chairish today when you first came by and
- 23:34Speaker 1: met met Michael Beach, you really played that character correctly.
- 23:40Speaker 1: About you had your little Tesla parked out front. You
- 23:43Speaker 1: was worried about it. Talk about doctor walk through that
- 23:47Speaker 1: little moment because I felt I was telling a brother,
- 23:52Speaker 1: I've done that. I've done that when I went in
- 23:54Speaker 1: the cringe show. So I know, right, I mean, you know,
- 23:59Speaker 1: there are are very powerful when they're created by media. Um,
- 24:04Speaker 1: and so you know that's what he has an idea
- 24:07Speaker 1: of walking into this situation where these brothers look like,
- 24:12Speaker 1: you know, like they're about to you know what you're behind. Absolutely,
- 24:18Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean I think, you know, he's
- 24:21Speaker 1: a very uh he wants to present this lup a
- 24:24Speaker 1: certain way and he isn't those things and he gets,
- 24:27Speaker 1: you know, confronted with a fear of his so um,
- 24:31Speaker 1: I thought in that space, you know, this is outside
- 24:35Speaker 1: of his his circle, and he wasn't expecting that. I
- 24:37Speaker 1: think he was expecting there to you know, not bump
- 24:41Speaker 1: into her you know, her uncle and and uh and
- 24:45Speaker 1: all his his friends and no, no, all the all
- 24:49Speaker 1: the member In the end, they were all awkol. They
- 24:53Speaker 1: let's gonna be let's say the terminology, right, you thought
- 24:55Speaker 1: they the you know, your character thought, yeah, I think
- 24:59Speaker 1: my character definitely think of him that way, like he
- 25:01Speaker 1: doesn't think that he's in a safe environment. I'll just
- 25:03Speaker 1: say that. Yeah, because you kept looking back at your
- 25:06Speaker 1: car and then Michael Beach Jackson, I got this, I
- 25:08Speaker 1: got this, don't worry about this. I got absolutely absolutely.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I mean, you know he's believes in the seeotypes. You
- 25:14Speaker 1: know he does it. He didn't leave any room for
- 25:18Speaker 1: them to show their character at all. And you know,
- 25:21Speaker 1: the interesting thing about it. And that's the great the
- 25:23Speaker 1: beauty of how ever do wing they put together this series?
- 25:26Speaker 1: She she peels back little pieces right there because because
- 25:30Speaker 1: Gently's character played by its Rockemore, she noticed that, and
- 25:35Speaker 1: and and and it plays out in the scene later
- 25:37Speaker 1: on when they get the Carson, you know, because the
- 25:41Speaker 1: thing about it is that because of his character has
- 25:44Speaker 1: always been successful. I'm talking about Evan's character, It's always
- 25:47Speaker 1: been successful. You know. He feels that he can intellectually
- 25:52Speaker 1: understand you can do it this way. And then you
- 25:54Speaker 1: have Gently's character saying why should I do it that way?
- 25:59Speaker 1: I have in no opinion. I but why why do
- 26:00Speaker 1: we have to go and buy a new refrigerator? Why
- 26:02Speaker 1: I have to? Why can't I use this? What's wrong
- 26:04Speaker 1: with this? So you see people having different values being
- 26:08Speaker 1: played out before you. And at times I thought you
- 26:11Speaker 1: guys were improv Was there any improv going along with
- 26:14Speaker 1: you guys just stuck straight to the script, to the script.
- 26:17Speaker 1: There was there was a little improved here and there. Yeah,
- 26:20Speaker 1: for sure. I mean our vibe was very much uh
- 26:24Speaker 1: because those and I've known each other, there's a trust there.
- 26:26Speaker 1: So we wanted to come to play and and um,
- 26:29Speaker 1: Eva wanted the collaboration as well, so we we definitely
- 26:32Speaker 1: did that. It's it's showed, and I thought that it
- 26:35Speaker 1: had to be there because there was certain lines, and
- 26:37Speaker 1: there's certain movements, and there was certain extra you know,
- 26:40Speaker 1: some street language thrown in. They go, I know they
- 26:42Speaker 1: didn't write that line. I know they didn't, which which
- 26:45Speaker 1: I know is good because but but I know it
- 26:48Speaker 1: was good. This is really really tight. This is really
- 26:50Speaker 1: really clean, you know. And like I said, and I'm
- 26:52Speaker 1: just talking in generic character, I want people to tune
- 26:55Speaker 1: in and seed this show. I don't want to tell
- 26:57Speaker 1: everybody the actual show because it was There are certain
- 27:00Speaker 1: moments and I'm talking about that if I reveal, it
- 27:02Speaker 1: would take away the path and you should have that
- 27:04Speaker 1: moment that I had when I watched the series, when
- 27:06Speaker 1: I went from episode one, the episode two, the episode three,
- 27:09Speaker 1: the episode four, and next Tuesday coming up in the
- 27:11Speaker 1: episode five. Remember there are only eight episodes in this anthology.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And uh, the guy Michael Beach if you're not familiar
- 27:18Speaker 1: with him, he recently starred in the Awkwa Man series
- 27:20Speaker 1: and made over one point two billion dollars worldwide. And
- 27:24Speaker 1: let's go to my favorite girl. I have many times
- 27:27Speaker 1: as a writer and producer. I got an opportunity to
- 27:29Speaker 1: work with her and she showed her colors as your mom,
- 27:33Speaker 1: Evan and Marie Johnson, and it was an honor to
- 27:37Speaker 1: work with her. She's an amazing and again of course
- 27:41Speaker 1: going up watching her like a living color, and I mean,
- 27:44Speaker 1: she's just she's a beast, a beast, brother, I would
- 27:48Speaker 1: tell you something, man, this is I hope I'm not
- 27:52Speaker 1: gushing too much. Team Uh, you know, you know when
- 27:55Speaker 1: I say that, I mean that when you see something special,
- 27:58Speaker 1: and I've seen I've been fortunate to see a lot
- 27:59Speaker 1: of work in movies and television and the stage, and
- 28:03Speaker 1: when you see a show like this, it's played out
- 28:06Speaker 1: and the chemistry between the two of you, and then
- 28:08Speaker 1: the actors that I added to the cast, like I mentioned,
- 28:12Speaker 1: you know miss Tyson, which is miss Cecily Tyson. I
- 28:15Speaker 1: mentioned Michael Beach, Now I met Amory Johnson. And then
- 28:18Speaker 1: you had my boy who I was I work with
- 28:21Speaker 1: on The Parkers, Dorian Wilson, who played your dad. Yeah,
- 28:26Speaker 1: Professor Ogleby, Is I like that's right, The Parkers, that's
- 28:30Speaker 1: the Yeah, yeah, okay, So no, he's just I mean,
- 28:33Speaker 1: look everybody that uh ever brought in to play and too,
- 28:38Speaker 1: they were just dedicated. They all had stakes, and they
- 28:40Speaker 1: all stood understood what we were trying to do, the
- 28:43Speaker 1: story that we were trying to tell, and they, um,
- 28:45Speaker 1: they all stepped up to the plate and it was
- 28:47Speaker 1: just an honor to work with all of them the
- 28:49Speaker 1: ocean and I had a blast from Queen of a
- 28:52Speaker 1: you know, Cecily Tyson, uh, to you know, to Dorian
- 28:56Speaker 1: and to you know, to Michael Beach of course, who
- 28:58Speaker 1: I called Pop. Now we all, you know, we built
- 29:00Speaker 1: relationships on the set and we came to you know,
- 29:03Speaker 1: to to really highlight you know, love and all the
- 29:07Speaker 1: things that you said that were to bring this story
- 29:10Speaker 1: to life. And you know, so we understand you're gushing.
- 29:13Speaker 1: We love that you're gushing. You know. We think Ava
- 29:15Speaker 1: for this opportunity as well as owned um for having
- 29:18Speaker 1: us and and really just breaking it down that love
- 29:21Speaker 1: is still possible and that it's out there in the
- 29:23Speaker 1: world and that um, we gotta just keep our eyes
- 29:26Speaker 1: open to the possibilities and to stay the course and
- 29:28Speaker 1: to follow your journey, follow your dreams, follow your desires,
- 29:32Speaker 1: and you know, uh, and but also do the work
- 29:35Speaker 1: you know, it's it's not enough to just say it.
- 29:36Speaker 1: That's that's That's what I'm saying is that, you know,
- 29:38Speaker 1: I hear so many people in this show. When I
- 29:40Speaker 1: watched this show. This is where I really really like
- 29:42Speaker 1: the show. I'm talking to Zosia Rockamore and I'm talking
- 29:45Speaker 1: to Alana Miller and Um. They're the stars of Chairs Today.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Please watch it every Tuesday on own as ten pm
- 29:52Speaker 1: Eastern and West Coast and not PM Central. Guys, enjoy yourself.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I appreciate you coming on my show. Thank you so much,
- 29:59Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Hi. And this is If you
- 30:01Speaker 1: want to hear more episodes of Money Making Conversations, you
- 30:04Speaker 1: can always go to Money Making Conversation dot com. I'm
- 30:07Speaker 1: Rushan McDonald um, your host. But let me tell you
- 30:10Speaker 1: a couple of more things about the show before we leave.
- 30:12Speaker 1: About Chairish Today. And this was always going to and
- 30:15Speaker 1: I really appreciate um the two cast members coming on
- 30:19Speaker 1: the show. Lauren lot plays her girlfriend and her ride
- 30:22Speaker 1: of die girlfriend on the show. When I say that
- 30:24Speaker 1: on the Xocia Rocket Moors characters Gentley James and Laura,
- 30:28Speaker 1: Lauren Lott plays her friend in the show. She's from
- 30:30Speaker 1: an American Idol, So they took they took talent and
- 30:34Speaker 1: uh and if you know Lauren Lotch, she's a singer
- 30:37Speaker 1: and she was on like the State of the earlier
- 30:39Speaker 1: American Idol, plays a great character. All the characters went together,
- 30:43Speaker 1: they all communicated, they all carried their role accordingly. But
- 30:47Speaker 1: again at the early part of my interview, I talked
- 30:50Speaker 1: about what it was my takeaway from the show. It's
- 30:53Speaker 1: a show about trust, and we know how important trust is.
- 30:57Speaker 1: We always talked about trust. We always talked about either
- 30:59Speaker 1: trust a friend, trust you your loved one, trust the
- 31:02Speaker 1: situation didn't trust you, believe, trust your gifts. This series
- 31:06Speaker 1: talks about that is sure about follow your passion. I
- 31:10Speaker 1: always talk about that on this show. I always talk
- 31:12Speaker 1: about leave with your gifts. I always talk about it's
- 31:15Speaker 1: it's time to start reading other people's success stories and
- 31:17Speaker 1: start writing your own. That's what these characters are about.
- 31:21Speaker 1: They're just playing out in different roles, but they're coming
- 31:23Speaker 1: together as a couple. And as a couple, you will
- 31:25Speaker 1: have problems. You will you have to accept responsibility what
- 31:28Speaker 1: it takes to make a couple coexist. Don't live your
- 31:32Speaker 1: life through other people's dreams. I lived that. I did
- 31:36Speaker 1: that in my personal life. A lot of people doing
- 31:37Speaker 1: that every day right now, and they need to stop it.
- 31:40Speaker 1: That's what one of the major takeaways I took from
- 31:43Speaker 1: chairs today. People always question your decision, ride or die.
- 31:47Speaker 1: With your decision here that turn ride or down a lot,
- 31:49Speaker 1: ride or die on you for a change, and stop
- 31:52Speaker 1: riding to that with somebody helping you ride to die.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Believe in your dreams. Don't judge, don't be judged based
- 31:57Speaker 1: on your perceptions or people option of you. That's what
- 32:03Speaker 1: this show plays out like. She said, you know there
- 32:05Speaker 1: are no light complexion characters that the legs in. Here
- 32:09Speaker 1: is a dark complexion young lady, or a chocolate complexion
- 32:11Speaker 1: young lady. Not the typical lead character that you was
- 32:14Speaker 1: expecting to serious as as important as this and it
- 32:17Speaker 1: plays well. Those should played that character to a t.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I thought she was around the way girl for real.
- 32:25Speaker 1: And Alano played his character to a t. I thought
- 32:27Speaker 1: he was a nerd guy who had never been around
- 32:29Speaker 1: black people in the hood. I thought that for real.
- 32:33Speaker 1: And it's all right to be different. It's already to
- 32:35Speaker 1: dress different, it's already to talk different, it's all right
- 32:37Speaker 1: to dream different. That's all I talk about on money
- 32:39Speaker 1: Making Conversations. It's follow your dream and stop letting people
- 32:44Speaker 1: change it, stop letting people question it, believe in it,
- 32:48Speaker 1: ride it out, and again money Making Conversation. This show
- 32:53Speaker 1: Chairs to Dream to watch a show. They had so
- 32:55Speaker 1: many values that I preach and and and recommend. And
- 32:59Speaker 1: if finds people don't follow and he's played out on
- 33:03Speaker 1: only series once a week, watch it for the show,
- 33:07Speaker 1: but also watch it for the values that you can
- 33:09Speaker 1: take away from the show. A highly recommend all you guys, ladies, women, children, adults, kids,
- 33:18Speaker 1: anybody who's interested in watching TV. Watch the series Chairs
- 33:21Speaker 1: Today by the brilliant I'm gonna say brilliant, Ava Duvnat.
- 33:25Speaker 1: She's an Emmy Award winner and Academy Award nominee. You've
- 33:29Speaker 1: seen her work now you can watch her work on
- 33:31Speaker 1: own every Tuesday. Cherish Today, ten pm East Coast, West Coast,
