- 2:11Speaker 1: Mahsha Dellinger, Hi, thank you for having me so you
- 2:16Speaker 1: in Dallas, Texas today. That's where that's my home now yea, California.
- 2:22Speaker 1: This Dealinger is the CEO of Curls. She's a new
- 2:25Speaker 1: brand out. It's called Urban Goddess. It's a c B
- 2:29Speaker 1: d are All is made by extractings CBD from the
- 2:32Speaker 1: cannabis plant then diluted with a carrier or like a
- 2:35Speaker 1: coconut or hemp seed all and it's gay momentum and
- 2:38Speaker 1: the health and wellness world with some with a lot
- 2:41Speaker 1: of scientists, and there's also gaining momentum with me. I
- 2:44Speaker 1: would approached several years ago about using this for aches. Uh.
- 2:48Speaker 1: People have asked me to use some of my contacts
- 2:50Speaker 1: to bringing athletes on board for a potentially brand ambassadors.
- 2:55Speaker 1: And I've always been hesitant, but to hesitate. My hesitation
- 2:58Speaker 1: was always based on edgucation. I wasn't educated nothing to
- 3:02Speaker 1: really understand exactly what's happening and how does this make
- 3:06Speaker 1: you feel good? And you rubbing it on your skin
- 3:08Speaker 1: is getting into your you know, there's actually penetrating your
- 3:11Speaker 1: your your your your skin base and things like that.
- 3:14Speaker 1: And but but because it's becoming much more knowledge, much
- 3:18Speaker 1: more I guess to say, normal use, and a lot
- 3:21Speaker 1: of the I guess, uh scare tactics are being removed
- 3:25Speaker 1: from the whole principle out there. How people could you know?
- 3:28Speaker 1: People contended to believe that, you know, you do this
- 3:30Speaker 1: drug and to do this for you. And it's not
- 3:32Speaker 1: so much about the drug, it's about natural health care.
- 3:36Speaker 1: So let's talk about how did you get into this business?
- 3:38Speaker 1: Right quick? Let's start off right there. Yeah, well, I actually,
- 3:43Speaker 1: uh was just discovered and decided to get into this business.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I'm from California, of course I know all about the
- 3:48Speaker 1: legalities there, and and I had a friend that's actually
- 3:51Speaker 1: in the business that we started talking about the annefits
- 3:54Speaker 1: of it. And I ain't exported from my mother who
- 3:56Speaker 1: has chronic pain. That's where my reports started because it's
- 4:00Speaker 1: a natural frame reliever and and I wanted her to
- 4:03Speaker 1: try it. So you mentioned that you used the cream
- 4:06Speaker 1: that was mixed with like a carrier oil. Well, I
- 4:10Speaker 1: have the cure oil that you actually put under your
- 4:13Speaker 1: tongue weight sixty seconds and then swallow and it goes
- 4:16Speaker 1: directly into the bloodstream. So um, so pain management was
- 4:20Speaker 1: my interest from get my due diligence and saw all
- 4:23Speaker 1: those other benefits and of how it can be helpful
- 4:26Speaker 1: to different people in no matter where you are mine.
- 4:29Speaker 1: So there's a lot of amazing benefits. So we say
- 4:32Speaker 1: pain management information. UM. It definitely helps with diabetic symptom,
- 4:36Speaker 1: helps with epiletic seizures and acne. He helps with depression, anxiety,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and migraines and headaches, and also metabolism. It helps a
- 4:45Speaker 1: lot of remains are issues that we have naturally. UM.
- 4:50Speaker 1: The key that people what people get caught up in
- 4:53Speaker 1: is the fact that they think it's like it will
- 4:55Speaker 1: get you high quality CBD oil should have the zero
- 5:00Speaker 1: th hc um and so that it's filtered out so
- 5:04Speaker 1: that part T sees what is a part of that
- 5:06Speaker 1: gets you high should not be tbot justice. There's little
- 5:09Speaker 1: properties that is actually beneficial. Yeah, that was the part
- 5:12Speaker 1: that that you know that had me. You know again
- 5:15Speaker 1: all this is uh, I gotta claim ignorance, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: because you you go off of what you heard or
- 5:22Speaker 1: what's being promoted, and when you see your c D
- 5:25Speaker 1: c b D, you think about getting high or think
- 5:28Speaker 1: about weed, you know, anything that's like okay, it's just
- 5:32Speaker 1: gonna affect me and I am I gonna be am,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I gonna be addicted to you know, all these sort
- 5:37Speaker 1: of things I think that you have to deal with.
- 5:39Speaker 1: So with that being saying, and I know I'm dealing
- 5:42Speaker 1: with a knowledge of entrepreneur, how did you break through
- 5:45Speaker 1: all that? How did you put you? I had to
- 5:48Speaker 1: I had to see for myself. You know, I have
- 5:49Speaker 1: to see studies like ours. If you gotta Urban Goddess
- 5:52Speaker 1: dot com, my website h t R B in Goddens
- 5:57Speaker 1: dot com. There are hosts of the um studies. And
- 6:01Speaker 1: I'm a data person. So if you show me that
- 6:05Speaker 1: it's proven to do so, then I believe it. You know.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I haven't to see the data though, so you can
- 6:10Speaker 1: eat just something build good. So I had to see
- 6:12Speaker 1: that there's definitely was some scientific proof behind it. And
- 6:16Speaker 1: I used to work in big farm and I went
- 6:18Speaker 1: from finding the pharmatypicals, and I know why there was
- 6:20Speaker 1: a push against legalizing it because they would cut that
- 6:23Speaker 1: those profits that have I personally recently had surgery and
- 6:28Speaker 1: I I wasn't as far along as I had hoped
- 6:32Speaker 1: in my recovery, and I already booked myself to walk
- 6:36Speaker 1: in a fashion show. Someone asked me walk into fashion
- 6:38Speaker 1: sholfful of all these Dallas socialized and I'm like, okay,
- 6:41Speaker 1: you know it sounds fun and by like a few
- 6:44Speaker 1: days before and the actually going, I'm like, oh my god,
- 6:46Speaker 1: it's a horrible They made secial accommodations for me to
- 6:49Speaker 1: have a chair and sit down and walking towards the
- 6:51Speaker 1: early part of the show with all those things that
- 6:53Speaker 1: I decided not to take my prescribe medicine. But I
- 6:57Speaker 1: just did my CBD oil and I did a lse
- 7:00Speaker 1: in the morning and a dose before I left. I
- 7:02Speaker 1: was good the whole night. And I could not believe
- 7:04Speaker 1: I was paying free. So that was just the thing.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And I was so happy to actually put it on
- 7:10Speaker 1: my page. I could have posted on my page about
- 7:12Speaker 1: it right, So I'm like, wow, great, might payments that
- 7:17Speaker 1: will prestpie for me. I might to be doing it
- 7:19Speaker 1: right now, here's do there. I went to the website
- 7:21Speaker 1: herb in Goddess. Okay, as soon as you come to
- 7:25Speaker 1: play it as an age verification, it says yes, I'm
- 7:27Speaker 1: over eighteen, No I'm leaving, or no I'm leaving. Why
- 7:30Speaker 1: is that there? Yes, I'm over eighteen. It's just the
- 7:33Speaker 1: age verif both regalities are something that hasn't say I'm goody,
- 7:37Speaker 1: just taken off the cautions and have to make sure
- 7:38Speaker 1: people who insur into because it's still can't you know
- 7:42Speaker 1: Canada's plan and you know you see some stage it's
- 7:45Speaker 1: not we go so yeah, we have to put that in. Okay, cool,
- 7:49Speaker 1: and then it goes down there goes a vegan natural
- 7:52Speaker 1: TC free pure. So you know again all your websites
- 7:57Speaker 1: are just just a hollypoly, very professional, very engaging, and
- 8:03Speaker 1: so it feels to me now because it is urban Goddess.
- 8:07Speaker 1: This is appealing to us women because you know, men
- 8:09Speaker 1: like myself too well when we have urban God coming,
- 8:14Speaker 1: so we're father daughter, you know, athletes, we want to
- 8:22Speaker 1: help unleash the inner goddess woman. Urban God coming next
- 8:27Speaker 1: right right, okay, So you know when you when you
- 8:29Speaker 1: when we started out, you ran through this real quick.
- 8:32Speaker 1: You know, I had seven points here, it's comeback, can
- 8:35Speaker 1: relieve pain. You talked about that personally, you know about
- 8:39Speaker 1: how and I would just share a story my friend
- 8:41Speaker 1: I was in in fact, I was in California on
- 8:43Speaker 1: Monday and she came by my hotel, and and she
- 8:46Speaker 1: was just uh, and we're just having a general conversation,
- 8:49Speaker 1: and she was talking about how back was bothering her,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and I was going, I said, what you're taking for,
- 8:53Speaker 1: you know, because me back bothers me. I go old school,
- 8:56Speaker 1: Ben Gay, you know, I see hot That's what I do. Okay,
- 9:00Speaker 1: she said, oh no, no, no, she said, I've been
- 9:03Speaker 1: taking these CBD ar olds. You know the cream, she said, Rishan,
- 9:09Speaker 1: I rubbed the cream on me and the pain was
- 9:13Speaker 1: went away immediately. Right. Yeah, that's great. It's a great,
- 9:19Speaker 1: amazing natural benefit. I mean products, I really really do
- 9:23Speaker 1: love it, and I think you should get You sound
- 9:26Speaker 1: like you're not quite sure. How ab I send your bottle?
- 9:28Speaker 1: You can try for yourself. Oh she's so good. She's
- 9:31Speaker 1: she's amazing. That's why I have on the phone all
- 9:33Speaker 1: the time because she's a great salesperson. She she challenges you.
- 9:37Speaker 1: She challenges me every time I'm talking to her. And
- 9:39Speaker 1: that's a good challenge because she's saying, Okay, I got
- 9:41Speaker 1: a product that I believe in. And Richard, your voice
- 9:44Speaker 1: if I convert your voice, and you don't have to,
- 9:47Speaker 1: you don't have to convince me, because first of all
- 9:49Speaker 1: I want you to try it. I will try. I
- 9:50Speaker 1: will definitely try because of the fact that I, you know,
- 9:55Speaker 1: just let's understand about you know, I have these old values.
- 9:58Speaker 1: You know, I don't drink, I don't smoke, because my
- 10:01Speaker 1: mother had the hardest time until I told her I
- 10:03Speaker 1: had to show her. Any time I promise your mother,
- 10:07Speaker 1: you won't can hide flying cream on your leg. Okay,
- 10:09Speaker 1: right right? Oh see, so you me and mom, we're good.
- 10:15Speaker 1: We're good. We're the same page, the same page because
- 10:18Speaker 1: because that so I accept your your invitation to have
- 10:21Speaker 1: that happened and say, and then it goes to reduce
- 10:24Speaker 1: anxiety and depression one of the things that also can
- 10:27Speaker 1: alleviate cancer related symptoms um a cancer survivor. So that
- 10:32Speaker 1: that that that's amazing. It may reduce atne which is
- 10:36Speaker 1: which is which is amazing. My uh from you talked
- 10:41Speaker 1: about this epilepsy and multiple growth fetures. Oh my god.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So the seizures. We partnered with the National Epilepsy Foundation
- 10:49Speaker 1: because they're that that was the number one the first
- 10:53Speaker 1: benefit that was discovered. And so kids have been taken
- 10:56Speaker 1: to be the oil under the radar way before legal
- 10:59Speaker 1: because and and pediatric about the seizures, they found that
- 11:03Speaker 1: they had a vast and dramatic reduction, and for that reason,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I'm like, wow, that's powerful and I and then I
- 11:10Speaker 1: had several friends who UM have had series of depression
- 11:16Speaker 1: and that's really runs ramped rampant in the entrepreneur world. Honestly,
- 11:21Speaker 1: that's one thing that we don't talk about enough. UM
- 11:24Speaker 1: And so one of my cohorts have also not been
- 11:27Speaker 1: knowing this beauty space and told me she'd been taking
- 11:30Speaker 1: it for a while her anxiety and depression and also
- 11:33Speaker 1: helps them in talkia. When I take it at night,
- 11:36Speaker 1: it keeps me sleep. I have a hard time staying sleep,
- 11:39Speaker 1: so it helps me stay asleep and get a great
- 11:41Speaker 1: night rest. So the listens just so goes on and on.
- 11:44Speaker 1: There's like listen on my website. But I spoken with
- 11:47Speaker 1: different people as I was launching and realized that people
- 11:50Speaker 1: were taking it underground for so many years before I
- 11:53Speaker 1: really over there. And then other other things that anti
- 11:56Speaker 1: two more effects are diabetic preventions, substance abuse treatment. It
- 12:00Speaker 1: uh at psychotic effects. It's really disguise the limit. So
- 12:06Speaker 1: we're looking at something that first of all, we're starting
- 12:09Speaker 1: to investigate from a scientific from the scientific community and
- 12:13Speaker 1: starting to evolve so many amazing layers of opportunities where
- 12:18Speaker 1: we can naturally cure ourselves. And we've been resisting because
- 12:22Speaker 1: of the fact that, oh you're gonna get you might
- 12:25Speaker 1: get high, you might get addicted. All these all these
- 12:27Speaker 1: falsehoods that I have been that I've been exposed over
- 12:31Speaker 1: the years. So before we get off there, give out
- 12:33Speaker 1: your website, give out to social media as you, as
- 12:35Speaker 1: you your family, you, I will definitely be talking to
- 12:38Speaker 1: you in awesome So follow me at Mahitia Underscore, Dellinger

- 12:54Speaker 1: joking with you. You my girl used to again, Uh,
- 12:58Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of yours natural hair products. So
- 13:01Speaker 1: forget Curls her brand. That's that's that's that's the heartbeat
- 13:06Speaker 1: of two thousand two. That's where she started. That's where
- 13:08Speaker 1: she's she's not going anywhere. That's not going anywhere, and
- 13:11Speaker 1: she's in into the CBD treatment and it's gonna help
- 13:14Speaker 1: out and the Millionaires Academy that she has for Black Girls.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Uh comes out in December next to Full Scale US

- 15:43Speaker 1: My girl, Don Lewis, how are you doing today? Man?
- 15:48Speaker 1: I listened to you say all that. It's like, yeah,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I guess I did do that. Yeah, I guess that.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Grace of God. You know in this business and you
- 15:59Speaker 1: know that it is the business. I you know, I've
- 16:02Speaker 1: been fortunate. I started as a stand up commodate, and
- 16:05Speaker 1: I became a sitcom writer and started producing television, and
- 16:09Speaker 1: I started managing talent. It's been able to have multi
- 16:13Speaker 1: levels of income, being able to have multi hats. Talk
- 16:16Speaker 1: about that whole process a little bit about being able
- 16:20Speaker 1: to in other words, you know, you can come in
- 16:22Speaker 1: wanting to be an actor. You can come and wanted
- 16:24Speaker 1: to be a singer, but you have to be ready
- 16:26Speaker 1: for the opportunity. I agree with you. You have to
- 16:31Speaker 1: be ready, but you have to be flexible because the
- 16:35Speaker 1: business that we're in, the entertainment industry is completely subjective.
- 16:40Speaker 1: There is no clear cut, black and white lines on
- 16:43Speaker 1: right or wrong, or or left or right. It really
- 16:47Speaker 1: is when you walk in the room, how does that
- 16:49Speaker 1: producer feel today, How does that casting director feel today?
- 16:53Speaker 1: Did you, by chance where the color they hate the most?
- 16:56Speaker 1: Does your perfume offend them? I mean, just all kind
- 17:00Speaker 1: of stuff before they even get to whether or not
- 17:02Speaker 1: you have the talent that it takes to actually pull
- 17:05Speaker 1: off this job. Um, your reputation, more often than not,
- 17:09Speaker 1: walked into the room before you do. If you are
- 17:12Speaker 1: known as a troublemaker adza, that's how people are going
- 17:15Speaker 1: to think of you, and no matter how talented you are,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you may not get that gig. So I suggested people
- 17:20Speaker 1: put your attitudes and your egos in check and go
- 17:24Speaker 1: and do the work and let the work speak for itself.
- 17:28Speaker 1: When I started out in the industry, I started out
- 17:30Speaker 1: as a singer. I've been singing since I was four.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I started dancing at seven, started acting at eleven. I'm
- 17:36Speaker 1: born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, so that's what
- 17:39Speaker 1: I was doing. I was doing theater off and on Broadway.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I went to the High School of Music and Art,
- 17:45Speaker 1: So I graduated high school at sixteen, immediately left and
- 17:48Speaker 1: went to college down at the University of Miami, where
- 17:51Speaker 1: I continued studying. They ended up developing a degree program
- 17:55Speaker 1: around me. The musical theater degree program at the University
- 17:59Speaker 1: of Miami was founded on me. I am its founder
- 18:02Speaker 1: and first graduate because I came into the school not
- 18:05Speaker 1: wanting to just sing or not wanting to act. I
- 18:07Speaker 1: wanted to do it all. I wanted to be a
- 18:09Speaker 1: complete package and have skill in it, not to be
- 18:13Speaker 1: young and cute and impulsive. And if I knew then that,
- 18:17Speaker 1: I was still gonna be young and cute and impulsing
- 18:19Speaker 1: at my age. Now I may not have gone to college.
- 18:22Speaker 1: But that's a whole other Stop. You're not saying you
- 18:25Speaker 1: wasted years. You did not waste years. Done, you did
- 18:27Speaker 1: not waste the years. Okay, So I would not let
- 18:31Speaker 1: you put that out of public. You're fantastic. Keep going,
- 18:34Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you, thank you. So I wanted to
- 18:37Speaker 1: know how to recreate what I needed to recreate, take
- 18:40Speaker 1: after take, show after show, and that was what I
- 18:43Speaker 1: cultivated there in college. So when I tell people today
- 18:47Speaker 1: or what do I do to get ahead? And and
- 18:49Speaker 1: what how come can I get my big break? And said,
- 18:51Speaker 1: first of all, you have to do your homework. You
- 18:53Speaker 1: wouldn't allow someone to perform brain surgery on you who
- 18:57Speaker 1: hasn't studied how to do it and do it well.
- 18:59Speaker 1: So those of us in the industry who do what
- 19:02Speaker 1: what we do and who do it well, we make
- 19:04Speaker 1: it look easy. But please know it is hard work.
- 19:07Speaker 1: So if you want to be a singer, you got
- 19:09Speaker 1: to get to work in and get your vocal chops up.
- 19:11Speaker 1: And don't just trust your auntie and uncle when they say,
- 19:14Speaker 1: oh girl boy, you can say no, can you really sing?
- 19:19Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I had a recording contract
- 19:21Speaker 1: before I got on television. I thought I was gonna
- 19:24Speaker 1: be a recording artist and singing and dancing on Broadway.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And uh, that was how I ended up writing the
- 19:30Speaker 1: theme song for a Different World because the music contractor
- 19:34Speaker 1: knew me as a singer songwriter, so he hired me
- 19:37Speaker 1: to work on the theme song. The people who cast
- 19:40Speaker 1: me to be in the show knew me as an
- 19:42Speaker 1: actor because I was doing a Broadway show for them
- 19:44Speaker 1: at at the time, the Cat Dance Kids, So they
- 19:47Speaker 1: both hired me and did not know that I was
- 19:49Speaker 1: being hired by the two completely different departments until they
- 19:53Speaker 1: had hired me to do both jobs. And by the
- 19:56Speaker 1: grace of God, I have been able to step by step,
- 20:00Speaker 1: you know, what I'm saying. You say, so you say
- 20:05Speaker 1: this so normal, you know what I'm saying. You just
- 20:07Speaker 1: say this so effortlessly. But but but when you talk
- 20:10Speaker 1: about you know, I've been doing this since I was four,
- 20:13Speaker 1: graduated high school of sixteen, went down the University of Miami.
- 20:16Speaker 1: You know, I wanted to structure of our life. I
- 20:18Speaker 1: didn't want to just I wanted to. I wanted a career.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I want to do, take to understand what to take ment.
- 20:22Speaker 1: And then I was saying, getting these opportunities, let's talk
- 20:25Speaker 1: about the opportunity because see, in your own since you
- 20:29Speaker 1: knew what you wanted, I always feel blessed when I
- 20:32Speaker 1: talked to people who knew what they wanted in their life.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You know, like when I was sixteen, look at a girl.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I was trying to figure out who was Sean McDonald was,
- 20:39Speaker 1: and let alone trying to find out if I could
- 20:41Speaker 1: date somebody. Okay, law knows, I was two years away
- 20:46Speaker 1: from graduating, okay, and then when I graduate, didn't know
- 20:48Speaker 1: what It took me seven years again out of college. Okay.
- 20:50Speaker 1: So you look that the guy was confused, okay, And
- 20:54Speaker 1: so I'm talking to somebody at a very mature age
- 20:56Speaker 1: and said this is what I want to do, and
- 20:59Speaker 1: then alone away. It doesn't always work out that way,
- 21:02Speaker 1: you know, because people like you said, you know, you're
- 21:05Speaker 1: going forecasting opportunity. You don't know what they want, you know,
- 21:08Speaker 1: be vibrant. And that's that's really the frustrating part of entertainment. Correct, yes,
- 21:13Speaker 1: oh it is. It is. And not only do we
- 21:17Speaker 1: get that put us put on us from the outside,
- 21:20Speaker 1: but unfortunately we do it to ourselves as entertainers. We
- 21:24Speaker 1: were perpetually as much as we want to create, as
- 21:27Speaker 1: much as we want to develop things that come from
- 21:30Speaker 1: the inside out, we're constantly criticizing ourselves. I'm not pretty enough,
- 21:35Speaker 1: I'm not spinning up. I'm not tall enough, I'm not
- 21:38Speaker 1: old enough, I'm too young. I mean, these all these
- 21:41Speaker 1: things that we put on ourselves and make ourselves insecure,
- 21:45Speaker 1: to make ourselves. Even as much hard work as we
- 21:48Speaker 1: may put into what what we do, unfortunately, because the
- 21:52Speaker 1: industry is so subjective, we put a lot on that
- 21:57Speaker 1: on ourselves as well. Quite frankly, and I walked in
- 22:00Speaker 1: to be a different world audition. I was the only
- 22:02Speaker 1: person in the room I didn't know right right. I
- 22:05Speaker 1: saw models, I saw as I've seen on television. I
- 22:09Speaker 1: saw people who were assized too, with fair skin and
- 22:13Speaker 1: green eyes and long hair. And I'm like, I know
- 22:15Speaker 1: everybody in here except me, okay, And that's why. And
- 22:19Speaker 1: you say that your character was a game changer for
- 22:22Speaker 1: television for you know, because you weren't a science too,
- 22:26Speaker 1: You weren't light skinned. You was like somebody in the
- 22:28Speaker 1: neighborhood that I went to high school with, or somebody
- 22:30Speaker 1: that I grew up with, looking like when you look
- 22:32Speaker 1: like my sister, and and you are attractive, you as articularly,
- 22:35Speaker 1: you have a defined personality, and you are and you are,
- 22:39Speaker 1: you are a professional and all those things. I feel
- 22:42Speaker 1: that you know, you're a role model, and you're still
- 22:45Speaker 1: a role model today and so and I'd say that
- 22:48Speaker 1: because I wanted to. I wanted I asked you project interview,
- 22:50Speaker 1: because I talk about your New Day Foundation because it
- 22:54Speaker 1: kind of it has those traits of being able to
- 22:57Speaker 1: talk about empowerment and education for you and under serve communities.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Let's talk about that a little bit. Well, to be
- 23:03Speaker 1: honest with you, the New Day Foundation, thank you for that. Again.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I don't want that to go by without me not
- 23:09Speaker 1: acknowledging that. It's really humbling to know that that was
- 23:12Speaker 1: the end result of me wanting to do my job
- 23:15Speaker 1: and me standing for myself and saying, in spite of
- 23:19Speaker 1: what I may think of myself in this room that
- 23:21Speaker 1: I think I'm the smallest person here. God was able
- 23:24Speaker 1: to use me to take myself to a different level
- 23:28Speaker 1: and being example for others who want to take themselves
- 23:31Speaker 1: to a different level. So I am really humbled and
- 23:34Speaker 1: uh honored to have been a part of a project
- 23:37Speaker 1: like that that put me in a position to do
- 23:40Speaker 1: that and be that and continue to be that. That's
- 23:42Speaker 1: thirty two years now and people are still watching that
- 23:45Speaker 1: show and coming up to me saying, I wanted to
- 23:48Speaker 1: go school because of you little kids who are ten
- 23:52Speaker 1: and eleven, the little kids in the show I'm doing
- 23:54Speaker 1: now the seen a turn of musical on Broadfrost. I
- 23:57Speaker 1: watch your show all the time, Miss Dawn. I'm now
- 23:59Speaker 1: the storm most Jesus, when did that happen? When did
- 24:02Speaker 1: I become the older person? But going back to the foundation,
- 24:08Speaker 1: the New Day Foundation, I formalized that about three years
- 24:11Speaker 1: ago now, basically to put under a formal five or
- 24:16Speaker 1: one three seed nonprofit umbrella. The work I've been doing
- 24:19Speaker 1: for more than forty years. Um. Ever, since I was
- 24:23Speaker 1: in elementary school, I was a person who, like I said,
- 24:26Speaker 1: who was inspired, who was supported by my teachers, who
- 24:31Speaker 1: from different parts of my family, was completely misunderstood. Growing
- 24:35Speaker 1: up in a very traditionally reliligious family. UH, the entertainment
- 24:40Speaker 1: industry was Satan's playground, and UH, I was being encouraged
- 24:44Speaker 1: by my my mom and my tea teachers to basically
- 24:48Speaker 1: live in that playground. So I was getting really mixed
- 24:51Speaker 1: mess messages. By one hand, I was being told that
- 24:54Speaker 1: the gifts that I had were a gift from God
- 24:56Speaker 1: and I couldn't do it without God's blessing. And on
- 24:58Speaker 1: the other hand, I was being told that I'm going
- 25:01Speaker 1: to be sent straight to Hell if I keep entertaining
- 25:04Speaker 1: the singing and dancing. It was. It was very confusing,
- 25:07Speaker 1: It was very difficult and emotionally stressful. You know. This
- 25:12Speaker 1: was when I was eight. This is when I was
- 25:15Speaker 1: eight when all of this first started manifesting itself. So
- 25:19Speaker 1: my elementary school teachers, particularly Karen Fogler and Barbara Ames,
- 25:23Speaker 1: who actually also happened to be lin Manuel Miranda's chie teachers,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and he credits them also with inspiring him and guiding
- 25:32Speaker 1: him to be the amazing creative genius that he is today.
- 25:35Speaker 1: So I just want to give a shout out to
- 25:37Speaker 1: public school teachers. Thank you for investing in your kids.
- 25:40Speaker 1: We hear you, we receive you, and you continue to
- 25:43Speaker 1: make a difference in our lives because of them. I
- 25:46Speaker 1: would go like into junior high school and come back
- 25:49Speaker 1: to my elementary school and visit them, and while I
- 25:52Speaker 1: was there, talked to the kids in the class and say,
- 25:54Speaker 1: this is what junior high school is like. I used
- 25:56Speaker 1: to be in this class. You have to listen to
- 25:58Speaker 1: your teachers. Don't you afraid of bullies? Tell somebody I
- 26:02Speaker 1: used to get bullied as as a kid, just for
- 26:05Speaker 1: having good grades, just for wanting to do something with
- 26:08Speaker 1: my life. People would just beat you up and jack
- 26:11Speaker 1: you for your lunch money, etcetera, all kinds of things.
- 26:15Speaker 1: So gratefully I listened to the positive voices more than
- 26:18Speaker 1: I listened to the negative voices. So while things may
- 26:22Speaker 1: sound like they just roll off my tongue and come
- 26:24Speaker 1: easily to me, or have come easily, that is that
- 26:28Speaker 1: couldn't be further from the truth. And that's when I
- 26:31Speaker 1: went to high school. I'm sorry, and that's the basis
- 26:33Speaker 1: of the of the of the foundation. Right to the
- 26:36Speaker 1: foundation is to be empowering to those kids and to
- 26:40Speaker 1: those communities where you don't see yourself succeeding. I gotta
- 26:43Speaker 1: go to the ticket to the show. Okay, Yes, we
- 26:47Speaker 1: are at the lunch Fontane Theater in New York City.
- 26:50Speaker 1: So go to Broadway dot com. Tina the musical we
- 26:54Speaker 1: are running. We are looking forward to seeing you. Please

- 27:18Speaker 1: my company The Morning Morning jewel In. You know you
- 27:22Speaker 1: know you're gotta come back on the show. You know
- 27:24Speaker 1: that you know that. Okay, I'll be back, Okay, big time.

- 27:48Speaker 1: and gentlemen, it's time you stop thinking about your dreams
- 27:51Speaker 1: and put some plans into action. My next guest is
- 27:59Speaker 1: an actor, writer, director, and producer. He's a series regular
- 28:03Speaker 1: on ABC's hit drama A Million Little Things, starring is
- 28:07Speaker 1: the character Rome Howard. He is back on the show
- 28:11Speaker 1: to talk about the first season and the upcoming second season,
- 28:14Speaker 1: and I want to share some very important advice that
- 28:16Speaker 1: he gave me. He's the first born American with Trinidadian descent.
- 28:20Speaker 1: He has lived from Baytown, Texas to Puerto Rico. Please
- 28:24Speaker 1: welcome back the money Making Conversation Rominy Malcolm. Hey, thank you, Dan.
- 28:30Speaker 1: That's a nice interes. Let's talk you the best central.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I've a guy right there. Thank you very much. Sean,
- 28:34Speaker 1: appreciate that. Good. I'm happy to be here and and
- 28:37Speaker 1: I want to know if I could, if I could
- 28:39Speaker 1: piggy back on what you were saying about, you know,
- 28:41Speaker 1: if you have a plan that you can make it.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Am I allowed to do that? Or do me? Now?
- 28:44Speaker 1: It just show us about to do your thing. I
- 28:48Speaker 1: just want to say something. You know, uh, you know. Look,
- 28:51Speaker 1: one of the other things that really inhibits people, I believe,
- 28:54Speaker 1: from actually realizing their dreams is simply they have this
- 28:57Speaker 1: preconceived notion of what the process should be like. So
- 29:01Speaker 1: what that means is they think from what they take
- 29:04Speaker 1: things to face value, that they take the success they
- 29:06Speaker 1: see your face value, and then so they go into it.
- 29:08Speaker 1: And I don't care if you're just selling jewelry, making
- 29:11Speaker 1: YouTube videos, or running a fortune five hundred company. The
- 29:14Speaker 1: bottom line is is that people are doing a lot
- 29:17Speaker 1: of additional work beyond what you're seeing and you know
- 29:20Speaker 1: at face value. So in other words, there's so much
- 29:23Speaker 1: extra work that goes on behind the scenes. And I
- 29:26Speaker 1: don't don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about paying dudes.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Yes there's paying dudes, but there's also simple strategies and
- 29:32Speaker 1: techniques that we need mentors and we need non provental
- 29:36Speaker 1: care in adults to inform usel because we hadn't walked
- 29:40Speaker 1: that path. And it's those little bits of insight that
- 29:42Speaker 1: saved us so much time. I wish I had known
- 29:44Speaker 1: that when I was younger. I cast to be a
- 29:46Speaker 1: lot further the head of my own life. That's all.
- 29:48Speaker 1: But is that part of the growing process process to
- 29:51Speaker 1: you know, cause I always go back and I always
- 29:53Speaker 1: tell people what you learn in your twenties, it's really
- 29:55Speaker 1: what the structure of what you're going to be successful
- 29:57Speaker 1: in your forties and your fifties, because that's when you're
- 29:59Speaker 1: fear That's when you had the dreams and if anybody
- 30:02Speaker 1: told you a question, you you tended to ignore that.
- 30:05Speaker 1: But as you got older, you got into relationships, and
- 30:08Speaker 1: you start worried about the position you are in life.
- 30:11Speaker 1: You know, that fear of change, that fear of I bet,
- 30:15Speaker 1: I bet I've been a hold back on this. So
- 30:17Speaker 1: the whole back what you say, no, but no, But
- 30:20Speaker 1: there's some value to that though, because you know something
- 30:23Speaker 1: real talk. I have to say that there was definitely
- 30:27Speaker 1: a fearlessness, uh, you know, in my youth. But also
- 30:30Speaker 1: what there was was this uh lack of awareness of self.
- 30:35Speaker 1: And because of that lack of awareness of self, I
- 30:37Speaker 1: had these unaddressed issues. So by not knowing myself and
- 30:40Speaker 1: not knowing what I was capable of, I was kind
- 30:42Speaker 1: of afraid that composed myself, if that makes any sense.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Very much. A lot of people tell me. Yeah, people say, Yo, well,
- 30:49Speaker 1: I'm you're so underrated. I'm not underrated, really, I'm just scared.
- 30:52Speaker 1: So I'm the dude to avoid a lot of the
- 30:54Speaker 1: avoided a lot of great opportunities simply because I was
- 30:58Speaker 1: afraid that I would be exposed as not being you're
- 31:00Speaker 1: good enough. So I actually took I I actually took refuge,
- 31:04Speaker 1: and I found uh joy in being able to be
- 31:08Speaker 1: the side dude, being able to be the supporting actor,
- 31:11Speaker 1: you know, And you know, that was really a biproduct
- 31:14Speaker 1: of just like deeper insecurity that hadn't been addressed. So
- 31:17Speaker 1: I think that, you know, we have a fair defensive
- 31:19Speaker 1: with kids, but there's a subconscious thing as well where
- 31:22Speaker 1: maybe we've been convinced by you know, by our environment
- 31:26Speaker 1: that we're not worthy. Not saying that it's true, we've
- 31:28Speaker 1: just been convinced of it. And so I think sometimes
- 31:31Speaker 1: there's a lot of value in northern in Northern American countries,
- 31:34Speaker 1: we tend to overlook, uh, the need to resolve those
- 31:38Speaker 1: issues as we pursue success. You know, it's not just
- 31:40Speaker 1: about willpowers. There is a resolve. Most of the wealthy
- 31:43Speaker 1: people that helped me make my movies that helped me
- 31:45Speaker 1: make my money. They have all had to put themselves
- 31:47Speaker 1: in that vulnerable position of getting to know themselves better.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Because on the on the movie Prison logic, there was
- 31:53Speaker 1: you did when you came on the show last time?
- 31:55Speaker 1: That was a crowdfunded movie. Correct, it was a cloud
- 31:58Speaker 1: funded movie. Now here was strategy on that. This is
- 32:01Speaker 1: the prime example of what I'm saying about getting to
- 32:03Speaker 1: know the ins and outs of something. I uh did
- 32:06Speaker 1: so much research on cloud funding, had no idea that
- 32:10Speaker 1: it wasn't just about you know, starting up and asking
- 32:12Speaker 1: your fans and money. There was so much strategy and
- 32:15Speaker 1: to be quite frank, like that cloud funding game is
- 32:18Speaker 1: shady as hell, and you you would not believe it,
- 32:20Speaker 1: all the all the skulls that we could go on
- 32:22Speaker 1: behind the scenes and being able to learn and understand that.
- 32:25Speaker 1: But what I did was I used the cloud funding
- 32:27Speaker 1: campaign to attract investors. So here's the prime example of
- 32:30Speaker 1: a strategy you might not know. You never asked for
- 32:32Speaker 1: a hundred percent of what you want when you're running
- 32:34Speaker 1: a cloud funding campaign, always asked about because statistically, a
- 32:38Speaker 1: successful cloud funding campaign will be funded on average between
- 32:42Speaker 1: two hundred to a thousand percent of asking. So that
- 32:45Speaker 1: means that if you're asking for a hundred thousand and
- 32:48Speaker 1: your campaign is successful, your guarantee to make somewhere between
- 32:51Speaker 1: two hundred thousand and a million. You get what I'm saying. So,
- 32:57Speaker 1: so the my math, my be uf there you saw.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I got a little secure when I saw that, calculating
- 33:03Speaker 1: the point. You are comedian. You're all comedians, right, um so,
- 33:09Speaker 1: so anyway, so what I did was I made the
- 33:11Speaker 1: crowd funding campaign successful by asking for half of what
- 33:14Speaker 1: I wanted, and then went to investors show the infestive, look,
- 33:17Speaker 1: this campaign is hot, and people like to see your
- 33:19Speaker 1: train this role. And like my manager told me, sometimes
- 33:21Speaker 1: you gotta start your party and then sending out the invitations.
- 33:24Speaker 1: And that's kind of what I did. I used the
- 33:26Speaker 1: campaign to attract infestors by making the campaign look like
- 33:28Speaker 1: you had a huge following and a lot of people
- 33:31Speaker 1: that were back in it. That inspired and motivated the investors,
- 33:35Speaker 1: and so we ended up doing that. Um I made
- 33:37Speaker 1: the movie. I saw the winning stuff at all these
- 33:39Speaker 1: different festivals, and I didn't even listen. I wasn't in
- 33:42Speaker 1: sun Dance and all those festivals. I was actually in
- 33:44Speaker 1: the festivals that were hosted in places where people had
- 33:47Speaker 1: given me money, and I said, we're gonna submit to
- 33:50Speaker 1: them festivals. We went to them festivals. We was winning
- 33:52Speaker 1: Best Lead Audience Audience Awards that edited the Death music lesson.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Right then James little Pas from Will Packers Company saw
- 34:00Speaker 1: that I loved it, took it to Will Packer. They
- 34:02Speaker 1: called me, like eleven o'clock at night, you wanted to
- 34:04Speaker 1: talk about it. I got on the phone with In fact,
- 34:06Speaker 1: that's my Instagram post this morning. I got on the
- 34:08Speaker 1: phone with them, and the next thing you know, we
- 34:10Speaker 1: were selling it to Smith Global Media, which is Will
- 34:12Speaker 1: Will Smith's brother, Hay Smith. First time I got on
- 34:15Speaker 1: the phone with him, I thought they was plunking me.
- 34:17Speaker 1: I really thought it was Will because they found so
- 34:19Speaker 1: much likelih the phone. But anyway, so that movie comes
- 34:22Speaker 1: out next year to February. We look for it. Okay,
- 34:27Speaker 1: you know, we have so much great things we've talked
- 34:29Speaker 1: about so far. I'm gonna wrap up this particular break.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Let's talk about the movie that's coming out in November
- 34:33Speaker 1: called Holiday Rush that's coming on Netflix. Let's let's wrap
- 34:36Speaker 1: this break up talking about that call Holiday Rush. That's
- 34:39Speaker 1: coming out of the Netflix in November. Correct, man, let
- 34:43Speaker 1: me tell you something that I don't know. If you
- 34:44Speaker 1: know who Leslie Small is, he's a that's my man.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Come on, come on. He did like three Neighborhood Awards.
- 34:49Speaker 1: He directed like three Neighborhood Awards for me. I know
- 34:51Speaker 1: Leslie Small. Okay, dude, that that's first of all, ask
- 34:55Speaker 1: my brother. This dude is incredible. One of the most
- 34:58Speaker 1: inspiring human beings I've ever met. This dude. He's directed
- 35:01Speaker 1: Kevin Hard to Stand Up, Cavin Wigans stand up, name
- 35:04Speaker 1: a big comedians. He's he's hit him in their prime. Right.
- 35:08Speaker 1: So he's like, Yo, I want you to do this movie.
- 35:10Speaker 1: I want you to play the lead. And again, like
- 35:12Speaker 1: I said, the man, securities kicked there and I was like,
- 35:14Speaker 1: you want to need to play the lead. You want
- 35:16Speaker 1: to meet like Romany Maunco to play lead, Romany Malco
- 35:19Speaker 1: living in Puerto Rico to Funti Texas at Baytown, Texas. Right,
- 35:26Speaker 1: I'm like, you want to meet Baker And he was
- 35:28Speaker 1: like yes. So let me tell something. I felt insecure
- 35:30Speaker 1: making the whole movie where he cast a Niqua Martin Green,
- 35:33Speaker 1: he cast the uncle these people showed up so on,
- 35:37Speaker 1: so on, another level of prepared and funny, and they
- 35:41Speaker 1: forced me to tap into something in myself that I
- 35:44Speaker 1: didn't even know I had. And I kept going to
- 35:46Speaker 1: him every other scene and being like, are you sure?
- 35:48Speaker 1: Because I'm sure? Because you're not sure, He says, You're
- 35:51Speaker 1: not supposed to feel comfortable here. You're supposed to be
- 35:53Speaker 1: being stretching. That's what happened. So here, what happened. I
- 35:56Speaker 1: So we make the movie. I go away, I come back.
- 36:00Speaker 1: So I have to do a b R. So I
- 36:01Speaker 1: have to do a b R like maybe like four
- 36:03Speaker 1: months later. And that's what you kind of put your
- 36:05Speaker 1: your match. You have to fix some dialogue that didn't
- 36:07Speaker 1: go right in the movie. And I get to see
- 36:09Speaker 1: about fifteen minutes of this movie. Oh my god, I
- 36:12Speaker 1: cannot tell you how much I enjoyed watching this movie.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I play a single father, a widowed father of four kids.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I have I have said the twins. I have a
- 36:21Speaker 1: preteen and a preteen daughter and a teenage son who's
- 36:24Speaker 1: about to go to college. And I'm a big time holiday.
- 36:28Speaker 1: I'm I'm a big time radio host, just like you
- 36:31Speaker 1: you know, and you know, and and and then all
- 36:35Speaker 1: of a sudden, my station gets sold to some people
- 36:38Speaker 1: that are talking about they going in a different direction.
- 36:40Speaker 1: And I have no job, I have nothing, and me
- 36:43Speaker 1: and my family, you know, after losing our wife, losing
- 36:46Speaker 1: my wife and and then my kid's mother, we kind
- 36:49Speaker 1: of went down the superficial road to kind of just
- 36:52Speaker 1: you know, uh, put a band aid over the hurt
- 36:54Speaker 1: that we were feeling. And now we have to learn
- 36:56Speaker 1: new values because we can't get we can't be superficial anymore,
- 36:59Speaker 1: we can't hard to be. So what's the story about
- 37:02Speaker 1: the family learning real value? Season two premiere of A
- 37:05Speaker 1: Million Little Things? When the stars of the show plays
- 37:07Speaker 1: the character Room Howard, Uh, he's best friends. His two
- 37:11Speaker 1: best friends left, but he's also dealing with a lot
- 37:13Speaker 1: of issues himself. And the fact that we're able to
- 37:16Speaker 1: talk about it, basically the text of it, the gang
- 37:18Speaker 1: rallies around the Lilah that's the best friend of the
- 37:22Speaker 1: suicide best friend, the wife of the best friend, suicide wife,
- 37:26Speaker 1: wife of the one who committed suicide. See how we're
- 37:28Speaker 1: talking man wife for the best friend she died. She's
- 37:30Speaker 1: having the baby with the other best friend. You know,
- 37:32Speaker 1: you know, with his character about to commit suicide. Then
- 37:35Speaker 1: at the end of the series, he turned to his
- 37:37Speaker 1: wife said he understands now we need to have a baby,
- 37:40Speaker 1: and she goes, I want to do everything you want
- 37:42Speaker 1: to do, but not that. Yeah, that was a heartbreaker,
- 37:50Speaker 1: and then walks into deliver room and he's just standing
- 37:52Speaker 1: there going, huh, I thought I was about to say
- 37:54Speaker 1: something you wanted to hear. She said, honey, I want
- 37:57Speaker 1: to do everything that you want to do, but not that.
- 38:02Speaker 1: O my lord, I love it. This is and this
- 38:08Speaker 1: show keeps throwing you twists. I can't wait. I mean,
- 38:11Speaker 1: I'm so grateful. Do you actually quote Michelle I it
- 38:14Speaker 1: needs a lot that you took time to watch the show.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Man really does. Thank you very much because I know
- 38:18Speaker 1: you got a lot to do, absolutely, And the thing
- 38:20Speaker 1: about it is that I do have a lot to do.
- 38:21Speaker 1: But guess what when I when? I because first of all,
- 38:25Speaker 1: your your your lovel of quality work that you're involved in.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Because you know, I first became a fan of your
- 38:30Speaker 1: own for you old version, and I followed you for
- 38:32Speaker 1: years on weeds okay, and then you blessed me by
- 38:36Speaker 1: starting the two of the movies that I was executive
- 38:38Speaker 1: producing that think like a man and think like a
- 38:39Speaker 1: man too. So I'm a fan. I'm a fan. I'm
- 38:42Speaker 1: a and then you you blessed me by coming on
- 38:45Speaker 1: my show. You know what I'm saying. And they gave
- 38:47Speaker 1: giving me momentum, your star power, give me momentum to
- 38:50Speaker 1: get other people run me on this show. Well I'll
- 38:53Speaker 1: come over sean show too, you know, because when you
- 38:55Speaker 1: when you, it's all about relationships, you know. And so
- 38:58Speaker 1: to come back this time, I had to be ready
- 39:00Speaker 1: for you because you and then all of a sudden
- 39:03Speaker 1: let me in on prison logic. You let me see
- 39:05Speaker 1: that before I got sold, before I got before it
- 39:08Speaker 1: started giving awards. Come on, man, you blessed me, okay, man, Yeah, y'all,
- 39:15Speaker 1: y'all have been y'all have been lessons in my life
- 39:19Speaker 1: from the minute I hit the scene. All I can

- 41:35Speaker 1: part of the process. That's why I created Money Making Conversation.
- 41:38Speaker 1: But my next interview really it's uh, it's about food.
- 41:43Speaker 1: It's about Rashaance. I think, um, second favorite thing, not
- 41:48Speaker 1: that you're doing life is eat. The other parts just living.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I love living, but eating. My friends no me, they
- 41:55Speaker 1: know I love to eat. And this this this uh
- 41:59Speaker 1: interview you feature I called Rushan Eats. It's on my
- 42:03Speaker 1: website Baker Spotlight. You go there different places I've been
- 42:07Speaker 1: told about. Uh, they are amazing restaurants. I make them
- 42:12Speaker 1: a part of Rushan Eats. So that's just a setup
- 42:16Speaker 1: of my introduction to my next guests. My next guest
- 42:19Speaker 1: first introduced Texans to their mouth watering turkey Legs as
- 42:23Speaker 1: the Houston Rodeo. In let you know about the Houston
- 42:26Speaker 1: Livestock Showing Rodeo. Roughly two million people attend the Houston
- 42:31Speaker 1: Livestock Show a rodeo every year. Just let you know.
- 42:33Speaker 1: It's not just a regular rodeo. So just to get
- 42:36Speaker 1: just to be a Protestant, be a vendor at the
- 42:38Speaker 1: Houston Livestock Showing Rodeo is a game change, especially for minorities.
- 42:42Speaker 1: In three short years, the Houston couple has taken their
- 42:46Speaker 1: widely popular Turkey Legs to new heights, expanding their menu

- 43:03Speaker 1: historic Third War Texas. Third War Texas Texas Southerners, there
- 43:07Speaker 1: University of Houston, where I went to school, was there

- 43:16Speaker 1: in Third War, Texas. The restaurant has also become a
- 43:19Speaker 1: popular Houston spot hot spot with late night hours and
- 43:24Speaker 1: sold for live music every Tuesday. Please welcome to Money

- 43:35Speaker 1: Please welcome, Kia Price. I'll tell you what, um you know,
- 43:43Speaker 1: just saying your name, Ms. Price makes me home. You
- 43:46Speaker 1: know that, you know that, you know I got the
- 43:49Speaker 1: I got the website up, I got all this amazing food.
- 43:52Speaker 1: You post the video. The rappers love you, your videos
- 43:56Speaker 1: going viral. Before we even get into the questions, just
- 43:58Speaker 1: let me know or you overwhelmed by all this, or
- 44:02Speaker 1: it's just like you prayed about it and you knew
- 44:04Speaker 1: this was gonna happen, you know, with hard work and
- 44:06Speaker 1: faith and all that good stuff and people surrounded. Let's
- 44:08Speaker 1: talk about how you feeling about this, because right now
- 44:11Speaker 1: I'm feeling hongry. I think it's definitely something that we
- 44:17Speaker 1: prayed about Um, we never in a million years did
- 44:20Speaker 1: we imagine that it would be to this extent. But
- 44:23Speaker 1: every day of the journey, we take it one day
- 44:25Speaker 1: at a time, and one day at the time means
- 44:28Speaker 1: what because your business, because you expanding. We're gonna talk
- 44:31Speaker 1: about that later. Expanding the business. I'm sure people just
- 44:34Speaker 1: dropping all these ideas about franchise and gere y'all could
- 44:37Speaker 1: be the next such and such, And you have to
- 44:40Speaker 1: take that in stride because the fact that, like I said,
- 44:43Speaker 1: what were you when I was at the livestop? What
- 44:46Speaker 1: were you have before before I was at the livestop?
- 44:50Speaker 1: And so but before that, my husband had a repo company.
- 44:55Speaker 1: He was reporing r V trailers and I myself was
- 44:58Speaker 1: a junior project manager for a litigation firms. So neither
- 45:02Speaker 1: one of us had culinary background or culinary experience. Um,
- 45:06Speaker 1: you know, was something that that happened he had, We
- 45:09Speaker 1: had the idea. We were just point to you know,
- 45:12Speaker 1: with the rodeo. We were shuttling people into the rodeo.
- 45:16Speaker 1: So food wasn't even our main focus at that point
- 45:19Speaker 1: in time. Um, and our main focus was shuttling people
- 45:23Speaker 1: into the rodeo. We just had a barbecue pit on
- 45:26Speaker 1: the field, in the field where we were shuttling the people,
- 45:29Speaker 1: and we had turkey legs, boot and sausage on a stick.
- 45:33Speaker 1: And you know, we came up with the idea that
- 45:35Speaker 1: we were just going to feed people while they were
- 45:37Speaker 1: waiting to go inside at the rodeo. And my husband, he,
- 45:41Speaker 1: you know, his thing was just repost for us social media,
- 45:44Speaker 1: social media. Everything is social social media. We post for us,
- 45:47Speaker 1: let's see what happens, and it just snowball from there.
- 45:51Speaker 1: So the fact that he had the foresight and understand
- 45:54Speaker 1: the value of social media and you got the these
- 45:57Speaker 1: giant pizzas and you know yourself because will you say
- 46:01Speaker 1: your clienteles African American? Yes, okay, cool, I want just
- 46:06Speaker 1: before I make the stake because black people like value
- 46:08Speaker 1: for their money. Okay, so correct, you see you see
- 46:12Speaker 1: this giant I'm telling you so that giant turkey leg
- 46:14Speaker 1: And then like any any restaurant you I can say this,
- 46:17Speaker 1: and black people they can they can confront me on this.
- 46:19Speaker 1: But if you if you take a black pot to
- 46:20Speaker 1: the restaurant when they can go home with a doggy bag,
- 46:23Speaker 1: you got them as a customer. You do you do
- 46:26Speaker 1: and we made That's one of the things that we've
- 46:28Speaker 1: always made sure that you know our price points. It
- 46:31Speaker 1: may not be for everyone, but people pay for what
- 46:34Speaker 1: it is that they want and we make sure that
- 46:36Speaker 1: you get the value as well. So you're paying. But
- 46:39Speaker 1: you also, I mean, all of our plates are sharable.
- 46:41Speaker 1: We give you a lot of foods, a lot of
- 46:44Speaker 1: food you sure do so, so you understood that, you know,
- 46:47Speaker 1: and I would tell you that. Just let's talk about
- 46:50Speaker 1: the basic turkey leg. Okay, I've I've tried to man up.
- 46:54Speaker 1: I've been at Disney, I've been an amusement park and
- 46:56Speaker 1: I'm trying to man up. Go get my turkey leg
- 46:59Speaker 1: and say, I'm a fit this this and lord knows
- 47:01Speaker 1: it has beaten me every time. Just the turkey leg, okay,
- 47:07Speaker 1: has beating your board back. Okay, I'm looking about trying
- 47:10Speaker 1: to hand this off to somebody because you know, when
- 47:12Speaker 1: you're walking to our amusement park, you got the turkey la.
- 47:14Speaker 1: You gotta do something with it because you're not eating anymore. Okay,
- 47:18Speaker 1: So you go in the restaurant and then y'all, I'm
- 47:20Speaker 1: gonna saying, call y'all crazy because y'all not all stuffed it. Yeah,
- 47:25Speaker 1: it's a crazy people thinking like that. You're crazy. People
- 47:28Speaker 1: are geniuses. Okay, it's a genius about this whole thing.
- 47:31Speaker 1: That they took a basic piece of meat, that is
- 47:34Speaker 1: that it's impossible for a normal person to eat. Then
- 47:39Speaker 1: they're gonna go just the crazy part. We're gonna put
- 47:41Speaker 1: something else in there, extra stuff, extra stuff, and then
- 47:46Speaker 1: so so that's the part. Now, when y'all was I
- 47:48Speaker 1: was shuttling people in, you didn't have the stuff part
- 47:51Speaker 1: of the campaign yet. Correct. Okay, when did that craziness developed? Kill?
- 47:57Speaker 1: When who thought that this? Lan? Or was it you
- 47:59Speaker 1: who on that? I have to give credit? What credit
- 48:03Speaker 1: is it was? That was his idea to stuff to turulate.
- 48:06Speaker 1: See he out there, he took people they think of
- 48:14Speaker 1: stuff like that. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, because he knows
- 48:19Speaker 1: he knows the value of extra. Cause see I used
- 48:22Speaker 1: to when I when I was when I was living
- 48:24Speaker 1: in Houston, I used to onload trucks and the food
- 48:26Speaker 1: trucks come by. So everything you look at, you always
- 48:29Speaker 1: want some extra and all your your fantasized. But if
- 48:32Speaker 1: I got this, I put this over top. See he's
- 48:34Speaker 1: one of he's one of the people you should put
- 48:36Speaker 1: food on the plate. He don't care if it touches.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Some people don't like that. And I'm that person that
- 48:42Speaker 1: doesn't like that. I'm saying, but he don't care. It's
- 48:45Speaker 1: all going down one one pipe. That's the same thing.
- 48:50Speaker 1: He liked me. He like. So what they have done,
- 48:53Speaker 1: these crazy this crazy couple. You know what I'm saying
- 48:56Speaker 1: that this amazing restaurant called the Turkey Leg Hut Houston,
- 49:00Speaker 1: Texas have said, look, we got this big old waste
- 49:04Speaker 1: of meat, We're gonna jazz it up. Now, what was
- 49:07Speaker 1: the first thing? What was the first jazz that you
- 49:09Speaker 1: added to the beat? There? The first jazz that we
- 49:13Speaker 1: added was the dirty rice. I was the first, Yes,
- 49:18Speaker 1: they knew exactly. And then thereafter we had the shrimp in.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Now Alfredo saw see they went jazzy right there had
- 49:28Speaker 1: to be a little higher than normal though that you
- 49:31Speaker 1: just don't add shrimp on a turkey leg and just
- 49:33Speaker 1: keep it normal for you. Now, see dirty rights, you
- 49:37Speaker 1: can keep that reasonable right there. But that you gotta
- 49:41Speaker 1: have to see the thing about just I love about
- 49:43Speaker 1: what I'm talking about it because see when people come
- 49:46Speaker 1: in the restaurants like that, you gotta have a price point.
- 49:49Speaker 1: I learned that from Thorn Concerts. Everybody. Everybody don't want
- 49:52Speaker 1: to buy the twenty dollar ticket. Some people want to.
- 49:54Speaker 1: They wanted Pacific one to seventi five dollar ticket because
- 49:57Speaker 1: they think it has more value. So certain client teller
- 50:01Speaker 1: they have they want that high end. This is very true. Yes,
- 50:10Speaker 1: and that's actually our best seller. See I know it's
- 50:15Speaker 1: my phone, and that goes back to people pay for
- 50:18Speaker 1: what it is that they want. Okay, cool, Now, I
- 50:22Speaker 1: don't think I missed this question. What gave you the
- 50:24Speaker 1: idea to stuff or turkey leg? Like I said, that
- 50:29Speaker 1: was my husband's idea. You know, he we were playing
- 50:32Speaker 1: around with everything. You know how we the the original
- 50:36Speaker 1: turkey leg, the regular turkey leg. It has stuffing in it,
- 50:39Speaker 1: but it's it's stuffed with different seasonings, um, different vegetables,
- 50:44Speaker 1: things that we I mean, you know, things that we've
- 50:46Speaker 1: incorporated into the turkey leg. So it's not a regular
- 50:49Speaker 1: turkey leg. It's not a walk around the fair holding
- 50:52Speaker 1: turkey leg. It's there's a process to how we do
- 50:56Speaker 1: our turkey legs. And then thereafter, you know, he was
- 50:59Speaker 1: like you we you know, we always try to challenge
- 51:02Speaker 1: each other slim. If that's what he calls me, slam,
- 51:05Speaker 1: I think we should you know, maybe stuffing with dirty rice.
- 51:08Speaker 1: And I'm like, what dirty right, Yeah, I'm telling you
- 51:10Speaker 1: it's gonna work. It's don't work. And I'm like, okay,
- 51:13Speaker 1: I don't see it, but let's do it. And so
- 51:17Speaker 1: when we went into the brick and mortar, we stopped
- 51:19Speaker 1: the turkey leg. And just like you know, when I
- 51:22Speaker 1: was trying to tell him about the season and and
- 51:24Speaker 1: he told me we didn't need to do it, the
- 51:26Speaker 1: same thing happened. People came from everywhere to try to
- 51:29Speaker 1: stop circul legs. Now, that's that's really amazing. So so
- 51:34Speaker 1: let's talk about your journey. Okay, before that, you had
- 51:37Speaker 1: two jobs that were not not not cool and very related.
- 51:41Speaker 1: That's not what you guys, correct. You had to transportation,
- 51:43Speaker 1: you transporting people back and forth. You decided to feed
- 51:46Speaker 1: the people. Are you transporting them? Make a little extra
- 51:48Speaker 1: money on side? That's all. That's just like a little
- 51:50Speaker 1: bobby stand. You know, We're didn't come out of the
- 51:52Speaker 1: nightclub at three o'clock in the morning. You always had
- 51:54Speaker 1: the guy there with the with the hot links, you know,
- 51:57Speaker 1: and they some reason they taste real good at three o'clock,
- 51:59Speaker 1: and on that same hot link, it during the daylight
- 52:02Speaker 1: don't taste to say, but three o'clock in the morning,
- 52:04Speaker 1: that hot link was was. And so that's true. The
- 52:08Speaker 1: whole part about moving towards the brick and more, which
- 52:11Speaker 1: is the which is the really the the fear part
- 52:14Speaker 1: of it, the business planning part of it, because you're
- 52:16Speaker 1: about to take a rich because you gotta sign a
- 52:17Speaker 1: lease and you have to have a certain level of
- 52:20Speaker 1: you know, inventory to say this is going to be successful.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Walk us through that process, because that's what money making
- 52:26Speaker 1: conversation is always about. We have a look about a minute, leyoff.
- 52:29Speaker 1: We don't I like to wrap that thought up in
- 52:31Speaker 1: the next break, but please start us all about the
- 52:33Speaker 1: whole process of the pricket mortar. So you know, our
- 52:39Speaker 1: how we started was very unique. It wasn't you know,
- 52:42Speaker 1: the typical you know, we're gonna seek brick and mortar
- 52:45Speaker 1: and this is what we're gonna do. It was actually
- 52:49Speaker 1: got a phone call from someone that he went to
- 52:51Speaker 1: school with about a location that um didn't have much
- 52:55Speaker 1: business and with the following that we had garnered while
- 52:58Speaker 1: we were out there in the fields. It was like, hey,
- 53:01Speaker 1: you know you all have a following, would you be
- 53:03Speaker 1: interested in coming and you know, just checking out the
- 53:06Speaker 1: kitchen seeing if this is the place that you all
- 53:09Speaker 1: want to continue to sell turkey legs and um, and
- 53:13Speaker 1: that was it. So we you know, we went over there.
- 53:15Speaker 1: We didn't know anything about running a restaurant. Everything with
- 53:19Speaker 1: us and I think that's why we appreciate it so
- 53:21Speaker 1: much more has been trial and error. White people, they
- 53:24Speaker 1: were standing a long restaurant life'll do that. That's very true.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Black people. They very impatient people, very impatient people. It
- 53:32Speaker 1: has to be something behind that dope that they're gonna
- 53:36Speaker 1: keep that place. That's why when somebody cuts in front
- 53:38Speaker 1: of him, there's a problem all give doing. If it's
- 53:41Speaker 1: if it's uh Steve Harvey, Oh Steve, I don't care.
- 53:47Speaker 1: I don't care. No, they don't, they don't, They do
- 53:51Speaker 1: not care, and they get upset. Get upset. Now, So
- 53:55Speaker 1: on Tuesdays, you also do a live music at the
- 53:57Speaker 1: at the original turkey let hut Okay, she correct, Yes,
- 54:02Speaker 1: we do live band seven thirty every Tuesday. But you
- 54:07Speaker 1: can do you'll be jamming, you know your turkey leg jamming,
- 54:11Speaker 1: you know your turkey leg to music, grooving to the beat. Yeah,
- 54:16Speaker 1: the kid, y'all on fire. You guys are on fire.
- 54:19Speaker 1: You no, no, I gotta ask this. You know. I'm
- 54:23Speaker 1: all right. Like I said, I graduated from the University

- 54:40Speaker 1: come in, they bring a lot of the women's women's South.
- 54:43Speaker 1: We're gonna we're gonna change that. We're gonna change that. Okay,
- 54:47Speaker 1: you're gonna get a little call because we're Sean McDonald

- 55:06Speaker 1: we're gonna come back after. We're gonna come back a
- 55:08Speaker 1: celebrated Turkey lard because I'm bringing out by there. Probably
- 55:11Speaker 1: bring everybody over there. Okay. So I want to let
