- 0:00All right, everyone, welcome back for another deep dive
- 0:02with Snarfl Solutions Group.
- 0:04Yeah.
- 0:05So glad to have you with us today
- 0:06as we go through some of the biggest tech stories
- 0:10that are out there.
- 0:11Yeah.
- 0:12As always, we're pulling from the Snarfl Solutions Group
- 0:14staying current journal.
- 0:15Right.
- 0:16And today's kind of a whirlwind tour.
- 0:18Yeah.
- 0:19We got AI.
- 0:20Of course.
- 0:21We got streaming wars heating up.
- 0:23We got some new hardware hitting the streets.
- 0:25Yep.
- 0:26And even.
- 0:27A little cybersecurity.
- 0:27A little cybersecurity thrown in there
- 0:29to.
- 0:30Gotta have it.
- 0:31To keep things interesting.
- 0:32Oh, yeah.
- 0:33Keeps showing your toes.
- 0:34That's right.
- 0:35That's right.
- 0:35Yeah.
- 0:36And some of these numbers we're going to be talking about.
- 0:38Yeah.
- 0:38They're pretty big.
- 0:39Big numbers.
- 0:40Yeah.
- 0:40So let's just dive right in.
- 0:42Let's do it.
- 0:43OK.
- 0:43So first up, AI.
- 0:45Always.
- 0:46Open AI.
- 0:48Planning to roll out these tiered AI agents.
- 0:51OK.
- 0:52And the prices are.
- 0:54I heard about this.
- 0:55Kind of crazy.
- 0:56Yeah.
- 0:56$2,000.
- 0:58$10,000.
- 0:59Even $20,000 per month for what they're
- 1:03calling this top tier like.
- 1:04PhD level.
- 1:05PhD level agent.
- 1:08So I mean, what do you make of that?
- 1:10Well, I mean, first of all.
- 1:12Yeah.
- 1:12What can these things possibly do.
- 1:15Right.
- 1:16To cost that much money.
- 1:17Are we talking.
- 1:18Yeah.
- 1:18Like AI that can write code for you.
- 1:21Right.
- 1:21Can analyze massive data sets.
- 1:24Yeah.
- 1:25In seconds.
- 1:26Yeah.
- 1:26Generate content that rivals human output.
- 1:30Yeah.
- 1:30I mean, who are these designed for?
- 1:32I have to imagine it's a very specific clientele.
- 1:35Right.
- 1:35People with deep pockets and very specialized needs.
- 1:39Yeah.
- 1:39I mean, if you're just kind of a casual user.
- 1:41Right.
- 1:42This is not really for you.
- 1:43Definitely not.
- 1:44This is some.
- 1:44This is for high level.
- 1:45Higher than the level.
- 1:46Yeah.
- 1:46Enterprise grade stuff.
- 1:48Yeah.
- 1:48Exactly.
- 1:49And it definitely makes you think about accessibility,
- 1:52you know, down the road when it comes to AI.
- 1:53Yeah.
- 1:54Is this just going to be something.
- 1:56This is just for the.
- 1:58You know, the big players.
- 1:59They're the top 1%.
- 2:00Top 1%.
- 2:00They're going to have access to.
- 2:01Yeah.
- 2:02They're going to be able to.
- 2:02These super powerful.
- 2:04Have these super powerful tools.
- 2:06Yeah.
- 2:06That's a great question.
- 2:08And speaking of accessibility.
- 2:09Uh-huh.
- 2:10Scale AI just landed this multi-million dollar contract.
- 2:16I saw this.
- 2:16With the US Department of Defense.
- 2:18Interesting.
- 2:19Right.
- 2:19Very interesting.
- 2:20For their ThunderForge system, which is an AI designed
- 2:22for military planning and operations.
- 2:24Military applications.
- 2:25This is where it starts to get a little dicey.
- 2:27A little scary.
- 2:28Yeah.
- 2:29A little bit.
- 2:29What are your thoughts on that?
- 2:30Well, on one hand, you can see the potential benefits, right?
- 2:34Right.
- 2:35An AI that can analyze battlefield data in real time,
- 2:38predict enemy movements, optimize troop deployments.
- 2:42I mean, that could save lives potentially.
- 2:44Yeah.
- 2:44But.
- 2:44But.
- 2:45Big.
- 2:45But yeah, the thought of an AI.
- 2:48Yeah.
- 2:48Making strategic decisions in warfare.
- 2:50I don't know about that.
- 2:51Yeah.
- 2:51That's a.
- 2:52That's a little unsettling.
- 2:53That's a lot of power to put in the hands of.
- 2:55The algorithm.
- 2:55The algorithm.
- 2:56Right.
- 2:57So that's something to definitely keep an eye on.
- 2:58Absolutely.
- 2:59All right, let's move from AI.
- 3:02OK.
- 3:03And the military.
- 3:04Right.
- 3:04Over to the streaming wars.
- 3:05Oh, yes.
- 3:06Where things are.
- 3:07Never a dull moment.
- 3:08Heating up, as always.
- 3:10As always.
- 3:11So YouTube music and premium.
- 3:14Yeah.
- 3:15They just hit a huge milestone, 125 million subscribers globally.
- 3:21Wow.
- 3:22That's a lot of people.
- 3:23That's a lot of people.
- 3:24That's some serious growth.
- 3:26That's impressive.
- 3:27So what do you think is driving that?
- 3:28Well, I mean, YouTube is a powerhouse, right?
- 3:31They've got this massive video platform.
- 3:33And now they're leveraging that.
- 3:34Yeah.
- 3:35To get into the music streaming market.
- 3:36And it seems to be working.
- 3:37Yeah.
- 3:38They're really putting the pressure on Spotify.
- 3:40Yeah.
- 3:40Spotify, Apple Music.
- 3:42All the big players.
- 3:43Amazon Music.
- 3:44They've got their work cut out for them.
- 3:45Yeah, they do.
- 3:46Computing with YouTube.
- 3:48And it seems like they're trying to appeal to even more people
- 3:50with this new premium light.
- 3:53Oh, yeah, I saw that.
- 3:54So $7.99 a month.
- 3:56Not bad.
- 3:56You get ad-free videos, but only in certain categories.
- 4:00Like what kind of categories?
- 4:01Like gaming.
- 4:02I'm sorry.
- 4:04And they're planning to expand this offering
- 4:06to Thailand, Germany, and Australia.
- 4:08Interesting.
- 4:09So they're testing it out.
- 4:10Yeah.
- 4:11In different markets.
- 4:12Yeah.
- 4:12What do you think the strategy is there?
- 4:14Well, it could be a couple of things, right?
- 4:16Maybe they're trying to capture a specific audience.
- 4:19OK.
- 4:19People who don't necessarily want or need a full premium
- 4:24subscription.
- 4:24Right.
- 4:25But they still want an ad-free experience
- 4:28for certain types of content.
- 4:30Yeah, like maybe you're a gamer.
- 4:31Exactly.
- 4:32And you're tired of seeing all the ads.
- 4:33Yeah, and you're willing to pay a little bit.
- 4:35Yeah.
- 4:36To get rid of them.
- 4:37But you don't care about the music.
- 4:38Exactly.
- 4:39So.
- 4:39So premium light makes sense.
- 4:41Premium light.
- 4:42Makes sense for you.
- 4:43Makes sense for you.
- 4:44Yeah.
- 4:44So it's kind of a smart way to segment the market.
- 4:46Absolutely.
- 4:47All right, let's shift gears again.
- 4:49OK, I'm ready.
- 4:50Talk about some new hardware.
- 4:51All right.
- 4:53So AMD.
- 4:54Love some new hardware.
- 4:56They just released these new Radeon RX 970 and 970XT
- 5:02graphics cards.
- 5:03Oh, yeah.
- 5:03I've heard good things about these.
- 5:05Yeah, they're pretty impressive.
- 5:0616 gigabytes of VRAM.
- 5:10Lower power consumption.
- 5:12That's good.
- 5:12This is serious processing power.
- 5:14Yeah, for people who don't know,
- 5:16why is that a big deal, 16 gigabytes of VRAM?
- 5:19What does that mean for the average gamer?
- 5:22I mean, if you're a gamer and you want
- 5:24to play the latest games at high resolutions
- 5:28with all the bells and whistles,
- 5:29you need a lot of VRAM.
- 5:31OK.
- 5:32And 16 gigabytes is a lot.
- 5:33So this is going to future proof you a little bit.
- 5:35It's going to future proof you.
- 5:36For the next generation of games.
- 5:37Yeah, you're not going to have to worry
- 5:38about your graphics card bottlenecking you.
- 5:41Right.
- 5:42And the lower power consumption is good too.
- 5:44Especially these days.
- 5:45When energy costs are so high.
- 5:47Exactly.
- 5:48You don't want to be running up your electricity bill.
- 5:50Right.
- 5:50Just to play the latest games.
- 5:52Nobody wants that.
- 5:54But there are some trade-offs.
- 5:55There always are, right?
- 5:57There always are, right?
- 5:58What are we looking at here?
- 5:59So these cards are bulkier than some of the competition.
- 6:02OK, so might not fit in every PC case.
- 6:04Right.
- 6:05You might have to upgrade your case.
- 6:06Right.
- 6:07And they also lack a reference design.
- 6:09So what does that mean?
- 6:10So basically, AMD isn't making their own version
- 6:13of these cards.
- 6:13OK.
- 6:14They're only releasing the specs.
- 6:16So it's all third-party manufacturers?
- 6:18And then third-party manufacturers
- 6:19are making their own versions.
- 6:21Got it.
- 6:21So you might see some variation in terms of performance
- 6:25and cooling and things like that.
- 6:26So you have to do your research?
- 6:27You do your research.
- 6:28Before you buy.
- 6:29Exactly.
- 6:29Good to know.
- 6:31But overall, these cards are pretty impressive.
- 6:33Yeah, AMD is really stepping up their game.
- 6:36Yeah, they are.
- 6:36In the GPU market.
- 6:37All right.
- 6:38And on the Apple side of things.
- 6:40OK.
- 6:41They're dropping this new M3 Ultra chip.
- 6:45This thing is a beast.
- 6:46Which is actually built from two M3 Max chips.
- 6:50Wow.
- 6:51So we're talking.
- 6:52So it's like a chip with a chip on its back.
- 6:55Pretty much.
- 6:55Wow.
- 6:56Thunderbolt 580 core GPU, up to 512 gigabytes of memory.
- 7:02That's insane.
- 7:03What kind of impact do you see this having?
- 7:06Well, this is going to be a game changer
- 7:07for creative professionals, right?
- 7:09Right.
- 7:09Video editors, graphic designers,
- 7:12people who need a lot of processing power.
- 7:15Researchers.
- 7:15Researchers, definitely.
- 7:16Anyone doing AI development, that kind of stuff?
- 7:19I mean, imagine editing 8K video in real time.
- 7:23Yeah.
- 7:24Running complex simulations without breaking a sweat.
- 7:27Yeah.
- 7:28Developing cutting edge AI applications.
- 7:30Yeah.
- 7:31This chip is going to unlock so many possibilities.
- 7:34Yeah.
- 7:35It's pretty exciting to think about.
- 7:36Yeah, it really is.
- 7:37All right, let's wrap things up.
- 7:39Let's wrap things up with a little bit of cybersecurity.
- 7:41OK.
- 7:41So Microsoft discovered this China-linked hacking group.
- 7:47They're calling it Silk Typhoon.
- 7:50And they're targeting remote management tools and cloud
- 7:53apps.
- 7:55Interesting.
- 7:56Yeah.
- 7:56So why is that a big deal?
- 7:57Well, I mean, think about it.
- 7:59OK.
- 7:59So many businesses rely on remote management tools.
- 8:02Right, for their employees.
- 8:03Right, for their employees to work from home.
- 8:05Yeah.
- 8:05And they rely on cloud apps.
- 8:08South.
- 8:08For all sorts of things.
- 8:09For all sorts of things.
- 8:10Yeah.
- 8:10So if hackers can get into those systems.
- 8:13They can cause a lot of damage.
- 8:14They can cause a lot of damage.
- 8:16Yeah.
- 8:16Steal data, disrupt operations.
- 8:20Hold data for ransom.
- 8:21Yeah, it's a big deal.
- 8:22It is a big deal.
- 8:23And this just highlights how important cybersecurity is.
- 8:26Right.
- 8:27In this increasingly connected world.
- 8:29Absolutely.
- 8:30I mean, it's more important than ever.
- 8:31Yeah.
- 8:32For businesses and individuals to take cybersecurity seriously.
- 8:37So everyone out there listening.
- 8:38Yeah.
- 8:39Make sure you're taking the necessary steps.
- 8:41Update your software.
- 8:42To protect yourself.
- 8:43Use strong passwords.
- 8:44Yeah.
- 8:45Be careful about what links you click.
- 8:47Don't click on those phishing emails.
- 8:49Exactly.
- 8:50All right.
- 8:50So that's a wrap on today's tech news roundup.
- 8:53Wow.
- 8:54We covered a lot of ground.
- 8:55We did.
- 8:56AI streaming wars.
- 8:58New hardware.
- 8:58New hardware, cybersecurity.
- 9:01A little bit of everything.
- 9:02It's clear that the tech landscape is constantly changing.
- 9:05Always evolving.
- 9:06So what's your final takeaway from all of this?
- 9:08I think the biggest takeaway is that we're
- 9:10living in a really exciting time.
- 9:13Yeah.
- 9:13Technology is advancing so rapidly.
- 9:16Right.
- 9:16And it's impacting every aspect of our lives.
- 9:19Right.
- 9:19So whether it's AI pushing the boundaries of what's possible
- 9:23or streaming services vying for our attention.
- 9:26Yeah.
- 9:27Or new hardware unlocking these crazy capabilities.
- 9:31Yeah.
- 9:32It's important to stay informed.
- 9:33That's informed.
- 9:34And be adaptable.
- 9:35Adaptable because things are changing fast.
- 9:38That's the name of the game.
- 9:39That's the name of the game.
- 9:40In the tech world.
- 9:41All right.
- 9:42Thanks so much for joining us for another deep dive.
- 9:43My pleasure.
- 9:44We'll see you next time.
- 9:45See you later.
- 9:46OK.
