- 1:04Speaker 1: more time by raycon dot com slash. I heard him
- 1:08Speaker 1: my next guest. We were laughing before he brought up
- 1:10Speaker 1: this interview because of the fact that I've known him
- 1:13Speaker 1: alone with time. Man. You know, the great thing about
- 1:15Speaker 1: this show is to get the here and meet people
- 1:17Speaker 1: and you kind of like watch their career, And this
- 1:19Speaker 1: is one gentleman. I've actually watched his career as a
- 1:23Speaker 1: young man and grown man. I'm telling a young man
- 1:25Speaker 1: the grown man. He grew up in Germany with his mother,
- 1:28Speaker 1: uh psychologists from Germany, and his father he's a physician
- 1:31Speaker 1: from Ghana, West Africa. So that's a lot of a
- 1:34Speaker 1: lot of that's the career you suppose you think he
- 1:36Speaker 1: will go, you know, psychologist, physician now. But he was
- 1:40Speaker 1: a talented tennis player, one of the best tennis players
- 1:42Speaker 1: in Germany until a chronic back injury slowed him down.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So he said, what I'm gonna do next? I want
- 1:48Speaker 1: I'm tall, I look good Hollywood, Holly Wood. Now he's
- 1:53Speaker 1: become one of the most consistent working actors in Hollywood.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Please walk with the money making conversation about to see
- 1:59Speaker 1: my name Joy. The boys had been by my house.
- 2:08Speaker 1: He beat my daughter badly in tennis. You know, because
- 2:11Speaker 1: here's a guy who practiced with Serena. Okay, now I'm
- 2:13Speaker 1: just tell you how good he is here. He was
- 2:15Speaker 1: literally what Serenas wants to practice sometime, probably not now
- 2:19Speaker 1: because you know she got private jets and everything, but uh,
- 2:22Speaker 1: he would always practice with hers. So he was in
- 2:24Speaker 1: town one day and my daughter lieutennis prodigy. I said, Marca,
- 2:28Speaker 1: you come out a player, and my daughter's he's so good.
- 2:31Speaker 1: You know, he's if you look at it, he's a
- 2:33Speaker 1: natural athlete. But I always want to thank you, and
- 2:35Speaker 1: I want to tell you my daughter she went pro.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Just getting a backstory on that. She went pro, was
- 2:39Speaker 1: doing well. Then she blew out a knee, boys, she
- 2:43Speaker 1: blew out of kN a c L. And now she's
- 2:45Speaker 1: in college. I'm happy for man. She's in college and
- 2:48Speaker 1: uh she's major in the mechanicalodngineering. Now. She told me
- 2:51Speaker 1: to tell you hi. She was looking at my couch,
- 2:55Speaker 1: Mr Mr Coch. But she's doing well. And my wife
- 3:00Speaker 1: told me to tell your high as well, and thank you,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and uh, thank you man. That's so when you was.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Whenever you say you have to do something for your family,
- 3:07Speaker 1: always No, I understand that because family is important and
- 3:11Speaker 1: it makes a difference in everybody's life. Now your life,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you and I go back at least sixteen years. Yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 1: that's true. I'm thinking about the Steve Harvey years. I
- 3:24Speaker 1: twenty years when he was coming to audisining for sitcoms.
- 3:27Speaker 1: He's coming in Sister Sister Jamie Fox more need and
- 3:33Speaker 1: you know for it's really when I look at your
- 3:36Speaker 1: look at your career, man, because you know, stand up comedy,
- 3:39Speaker 1: you've been uh basically won't say it, kind of like
- 3:41Speaker 1: a superhero in those Resident Evil movies. Uh, you know,
- 3:45Speaker 1: just a voice in the further that movie. Uh you uh,
- 3:48Speaker 1: you spook yourself and we were housewives of Hollywood and
- 3:53Speaker 1: now you're playing a doctor h your husb husband of
- 3:56Speaker 1: hospital Hollywood. And then you now you're playing a doctor
- 3:59Speaker 1: on Cold Black. Did did you see all that meant?
- 4:03Speaker 1: Did you see that journey shaping it? Stuff like that?
- 4:07Speaker 1: You know, you never know what God will bless you.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Was um. One thing that I can say that that's
- 4:14Speaker 1: been consistent in my life was that I've always had faith,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and then I've always been ready. So whatever opportunity presented
- 4:21Speaker 1: itself to me, I was able to take advantage. I
- 4:25Speaker 1: was able to take advantage of. But whether it was
- 4:27Speaker 1: a scholarship that I got to play tennants at ECU,
- 4:31Speaker 1: or modeling contract I had with Ford or then you know,
- 4:34Speaker 1: the acting world, I was always ready to take advantage.
- 4:38Speaker 1: And that's something that's been that's been a constant in
- 4:41Speaker 1: my life. And it's really important because he gets a
- 4:45Speaker 1: deal about boars and that you know and and he
- 4:48Speaker 1: and he knows me as a guy who I called
- 4:51Speaker 1: him a boar or can you do this? I remember
- 4:53Speaker 1: when Steve was going on vacation, I would call him
- 4:55Speaker 1: because you sit in Because I always felt he was
- 4:57Speaker 1: just just super talented guy. And the way you get
- 5:00Speaker 1: to be typecast is you do things that people don't
- 5:02Speaker 1: consider normal. And I always felt when the show and
- 5:05Speaker 1: just showed a different side of him for four hours,
- 5:08Speaker 1: because people go, when people ask me, you got bars
- 5:10Speaker 1: co host to your show, go hey, hey, hey, hey, Chill,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I'm the producer. I created this show. I can do
- 5:15Speaker 1: what I want to do and just and so and
- 5:17Speaker 1: I felt that I felt that you was funny, you
- 5:19Speaker 1: was articularly your interview, and I always felt, man, that
- 5:23Speaker 1: what I see now is when I saw way back then.
- 5:25Speaker 1: And I'm so proud of you, man, And when every time, anyway,
- 5:28Speaker 1: when I saw you on the Real Husband's Hollywood acting
- 5:31Speaker 1: like a food I want this boys, he LUs is
- 5:33Speaker 1: buying that. So how did that come? How did that
- 5:36Speaker 1: come about? You in proving with Kevin Hart on a
- 5:39Speaker 1: crazy show on BT. Yeah, well, you know, my one
- 5:44Speaker 1: of my best friends is Chris Spencer. Yes, yes, yes,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I know Christ Yes, And we were talking about this
- 5:52Speaker 1: a long time ago and he wanted to put this together.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And and you know one thing that a lot of
- 5:58Speaker 1: people don't notice that we were all real friends. You know, Kevin, Dwayne, Nelly,
- 6:04Speaker 1: we're all friends, and we used to hang out the
- 6:06Speaker 1: same way that you saw it on TV. And uh so,
- 6:09Speaker 1: so that the show wasn't a big stretch. It's just
- 6:11Speaker 1: that it gave us a creative license to just act
- 6:15Speaker 1: the full because you know, this is a hyper real
- 6:16Speaker 1: version of who we are. And uh but it was
- 6:19Speaker 1: fun because we got to you know, we got to
- 6:21Speaker 1: hang out with each other again, spend some time together.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So this is this has been one of the most
- 6:26Speaker 1: satisfying sort of things that I've done in my career
- 6:30Speaker 1: because it's it was just it came down, it was right,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and that's that's that's what I liked about it. And
- 6:36Speaker 1: I liked about it because it was seeing you in
- 6:38Speaker 1: that light because you know, you're You're and your wife
- 6:41Speaker 1: Nicole Erry Parker had done a sitcom together and so
- 6:45Speaker 1: that was really your first you know, you know, you know,
- 6:48Speaker 1: because you've done comedic roles and uh, but this is
- 6:51Speaker 1: the first time you were starting in the comedic sitcom
- 6:53Speaker 1: and then and then you turn around you and this
- 6:56Speaker 1: this a blown out funny off, you know, off the
- 7:00Speaker 1: wall popular because I ran into parents, I ran into
- 7:03Speaker 1: Kevin Hard he was over there syndicated in myth so
- 7:05Speaker 1: it would be syndicated you. So this was a worldwide phenomenon,
- 7:09Speaker 1: real houses of Hollywood. And so with that being said,
- 7:13Speaker 1: how did that help your brand doing that show? You know? Um,
- 7:19Speaker 1: I think it's to uh the diversity that I could
- 7:24Speaker 1: bring the table. Because when you first start out in Hollywood, Um,
- 7:28Speaker 1: the first role you play that that garners you some
- 7:32Speaker 1: some uh some some some notoriety, if you will. Uh,
- 7:38Speaker 1: The studios tend to studios tend to book you, or
- 7:42Speaker 1: want to cast you for the same roles over and
- 7:44Speaker 1: over again. So if you're not careful, you end up
- 7:47Speaker 1: in a in a box and you end up being
- 7:49Speaker 1: labeled a certain a certain way. So anytime I was
- 7:53Speaker 1: able to stretch and do something that people didn't expect
- 7:56Speaker 1: me to do, I took advantage of it, you know,
- 7:58Speaker 1: because that's how people That's how people learn how versatile
- 8:02Speaker 1: you are. You know. I graduated with a business degree
- 8:05Speaker 1: and and I never used it until I came to Hollywood,
- 8:09Speaker 1: and then I figured out, Okay, look, I'm more than
- 8:12Speaker 1: an actor. I'm I'm a brand. I'm a brand. So
- 8:15Speaker 1: I have to I have to. I have to approach
- 8:17Speaker 1: my career like I would if I was development a brand.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So part of that development is being as versusile as
- 8:24Speaker 1: you can to you know, show yourself in a different
- 8:27Speaker 1: light to make people understand that you can You're not
- 8:30Speaker 1: a you know, one trick pony. And I think I've
- 8:33Speaker 1: accomplished that with with roles like you know real Husband's Well,
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you also, the big role at least
- 8:39Speaker 1: I really was the eye turner for me. When you
- 8:42Speaker 1: got the the NBC show Undercover, it was Undercover right
- 8:45Speaker 1: when you played it undercover spy man, I'm to you something.
- 8:49Speaker 1: When I saw you, I went, my boy, you know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: it's kind of crazy because you know, I know you,
- 8:54Speaker 1: you just I know you as bores Okay, when you
- 8:57Speaker 1: got that role, I was like, wow, mm hmm he started.
- 9:04Speaker 1: That was a great. Yeah, that was a great It
- 9:06Speaker 1: was a great yeah. J J. Abrahams it was great.
- 9:12Speaker 1: It was a really really great show. It was it
- 9:14Speaker 1: was well, it was um And so they canceled the
- 9:18Speaker 1: show after the first season and we had almost nine
- 9:21Speaker 1: million years, which which which nowadays they would they would
- 9:27Speaker 1: kill for nine million years. Nowadays, it was like, guys,
- 9:30Speaker 1: they had four or five millions. So it's just it's
- 9:33Speaker 1: just a testament to to how Hollywood works or or
- 9:38Speaker 1: you know, how it doesn't work. Sometimes it's it's about timing,
- 9:40Speaker 1: it's about it's about things. Sometimes that doesn't make a
- 9:43Speaker 1: lot of sense, you know, I want to uh, at
- 9:46Speaker 1: the time it was, it was probably if you think
- 9:49Speaker 1: about it, that was almost ten years ago. So um,
- 9:53Speaker 1: maybe maybe we were a little bit ahead of our time,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and maybe that's would hurt us, you know, because if
- 9:58Speaker 1: you look at the if you look at the TV
- 10:02Speaker 1: atmosphere right now and the show like on the coverage
- 10:04Speaker 1: come on, that would sit perfectly into what's going on
- 10:06Speaker 1: right now. Absolute, especially on Netflix, especially on Netflix. Yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 1: oh no, absolutely, and no doubt, no doubt this show
- 10:12Speaker 1: would go on forever. Um. But you know, it's it's
- 10:15Speaker 1: part of it's part of the journey. You know, something's
- 10:18Speaker 1: uh you know, sometimes the timing is right and sometimes
- 10:21Speaker 1: the timing is off. He just kind of rolled with
- 10:23Speaker 1: the country and then and then he was when it
- 10:24Speaker 1: was at my house, I was going, I was talking,
- 10:26Speaker 1: I go because he started Resident Evil and I said,
- 10:29Speaker 1: I said, you survived. He said, yes, rush go back
- 10:32Speaker 1: and look, and then he went on. Then he went
- 10:35Speaker 1: on uh Internet, and he foiled the clip to show
- 10:38Speaker 1: he survived because you did too, Resident Evils. Correct, Yes,
- 10:43Speaker 1: that's right, that's right. And everybody usually, you know, usually
- 10:46Speaker 1: usually the black guy died. When I signed on, I
- 10:53Speaker 1: made sure I made sure that I would survive. I
- 10:56Speaker 1: don't know I lived. I lived because he goes into
- 10:59Speaker 1: the whole and there's nothing but uh tho was there
- 11:02Speaker 1: was h those zombies down there, so it's no way
- 11:05Speaker 1: he could live. There was no way I knew he
- 11:07Speaker 1: was dead. He survived. He showed me the clip he survived,
- 11:10Speaker 1: and you did two episodes that when we come back,
- 11:12Speaker 1: we want to talk about their your clothing line and
- 11:14Speaker 1: also talk about the cold are Parkabin and Target stores,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and also talk about your foundation. We'll be right back
- 11:20Speaker 1: with more of my friend. Man. Just go great. I'm
- 11:23Speaker 1: so proud of you, man, And I say that with secrity. Uh.
- 11:26Speaker 1: He knows I was make phone calls to hey, man,
- 11:28Speaker 1: get on this phone. Let's promote that NBC show. Come
- 11:30Speaker 1: over and host this show. He knows. I'm a firm.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I'm a fan of boris Cojoe. Be right back with more. Okay,
- 11:39Speaker 1: I'm back on the line of Boris Cojoe good friend
- 11:42Speaker 1: of mine. Um. Uh incredible father, incredible husband, an incredible person. Uh,
- 11:50Speaker 1: an entrepreneur. That's what I love about it because uh
- 11:53Speaker 1: in he just started a custom clothing line and uh
- 11:57Speaker 1: tell everybody about it. Uh you been You've been telling
- 12:00Speaker 1: me about it for years. Did what you saw it
- 12:03Speaker 1: with your brother? Correct? Of course, that's that's right. My
- 12:06Speaker 1: brother Patrick and he brought the concept to me and
- 12:09Speaker 1: it was basically um putting, putting the notion of customer
- 12:15Speaker 1: suits and shirts on his head because traditionally, owning a
- 12:19Speaker 1: custom suit or shirt is something that not a lot
- 12:22Speaker 1: of people can afford because it's so expensive. So we
- 12:25Speaker 1: wanted to We wanted to cater to the other people
- 12:31Speaker 1: who deserve to have suits and shirts that fit. So
- 12:34Speaker 1: we created World of Alpha, which is online custom suits
- 12:39Speaker 1: and shirts manufacturer, and you basically go online to World
- 12:44Speaker 1: of Alpha dot com, you pick your fabrics, UH, you
- 12:47Speaker 1: pick your styles, and you walk through different design options
- 12:50Speaker 1: and you actually design your own suit online. Um, we
- 12:55Speaker 1: have hundreds of different fabrics, we have tons of different
- 12:58Speaker 1: design options. Is a there's a measuring page where you
- 13:01Speaker 1: can put your measurements, and if you don't have your measurements,
- 13:05Speaker 1: there's a little video to teach iss you how to
- 13:07Speaker 1: how to get those measurements done. You get your honest measurements,
- 13:12Speaker 1: put you in for in there, and twenty five days
- 13:14Speaker 1: later you get your suit or your shirt in the mail.
- 13:17Speaker 1: And we launched. Yeah, we launched about eight eight years
- 13:21Speaker 1: ago and with great success, and it's been it's been
- 13:25Speaker 1: an amazing journey as well. Not only do we do
- 13:29Speaker 1: straight to consumer UH suits and shirts, but we also
- 13:33Speaker 1: target universities. We target u NT double A Uh, teams
- 13:39Speaker 1: like U m C and Michigan State are our customers
- 13:43Speaker 1: of ours with the whole football team and the whole
- 13:46Speaker 1: basketball team. That we're in world of offices because you know,
- 13:49Speaker 1: when you're an athlete, Uh, you can't buy off the rack,
- 13:52Speaker 1: so you got to get custom stuff. And usually it's
- 13:55Speaker 1: too express. Started to fifty Our shirts started thirty bucks.
- 13:59Speaker 1: So it's a there's uh, there's different um wool blends.
- 14:08Speaker 1: We have linen. Uh, so you gotta check it out.
- 14:11Speaker 1: It's a great way to get your custom suits and shirt. Okay,
- 14:15Speaker 1: let me talk to people out here that this a
- 14:18Speaker 1: thirty dollar custom shirch because I know, you know you
- 14:20Speaker 1: go to get I just thought something like arrows nineteen dollars,
- 14:23Speaker 1: But there's an arrow shot thirty dollar customer shirt. Now
- 14:27Speaker 1: I'm just telling you I buy. I've never bought a
- 14:30Speaker 1: thirty dollar customer shirt because I didn't know about the service.
