- 0:00The B -Side in boxing. B -Side shit. B -Side.
- 0:04B -Side. And the B -Side. You got a B -Side.
- 0:06The B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. B -Side. The B
- 0:10-Side thing. This is the B -Sides Boxing Podcast.
- 0:20Alright, judge time. Boxing B -Sides. We are
- 0:27back up in your ears to talk the fights. I'm
- 0:31joined by Josh, my homie as usual. Let's go.
- 0:36I'm not sick. I'm like the one who will not be
- 0:40named. The intrepid Saul. And Shanada, our usual
- 0:44Boxing Before Dark host, is joining us for Boxing
- 0:48B -Sides. I'm excited about the crossover episode.
- 0:54I get to talk about Inouye twice. These need
- 0:57to be more frequent. I'm enjoying this. Let's
- 1:03get into... We don't have any MMA talk this time,
- 1:06but if you do want MMA chatter, Ultimate F 'n
- 1:11Casuals, wherever you're listening to this, you
- 1:13can hear that as well. Boxing survey. So bxng
- 1:20.co slash survey. I want to hear what you think
- 1:23about the titles. Like, how do you rank them?
- 1:26How do you rate them individually? What do you
- 1:29perceive to be more corrupt or least corrupt?
- 1:32And yeah, all of that stuff. bxng .co slash survey.
- 1:40And last thing, Muhammad Ali, American Boxing
- 1:44Revival Act. This has cleared the House. It is
- 1:47about it's pretty much about to clear committee
- 1:50in the Senate. We still have time to do something
- 1:56about it. I have contacted my senators and I
- 2:01made it clear like I I know that this legislation
- 2:07sounds good on the surface. It's just on its
- 2:10face. It sounds fantastic. But. It doesn't solve
- 2:17nearly as many problems as it creates. And that's
- 2:22kind of a problem. And we need to prevent this
- 2:26from passing. If you go to lvxmedia .net slash
- 2:31bsides, there's a link at the very top where
- 2:36you can find your senator's contact information.
- 2:41And there's a blurb there that you can use if
- 2:43you want to. If you don't know what to say, use
- 2:46mine. If you have your own words, fucking feel
- 2:49free. But that's lvxmedia .net slash bsites.
- 2:55The news is light. Floyd Mayweather facing a
- 3:01passport revocation over owing 7 .25 mil to the
- 3:09IRS. Holy poopy. Yeah. Floyd being so fucking
- 3:15broke after making so much money baffles my mind.
- 3:19Like, just pay your taxes, dude. I saw a very
- 3:23interesting, I'm pretty sure it was in the patron
- 3:26chat, of our beloved Discord that, like, it checks
- 3:29out because I've heard of Al Heyman doing this,
- 3:32where Al Heyman basically sets up a sort of,
- 3:35like, supervised trust or, like, guardrails for
- 3:39these irresponsible as fuck fighters. But you
- 3:43know how he got sick, like, a couple years back,
- 3:45right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So I'm assuming those
- 3:51guardrails or whatever, trust was just, the oversight
- 3:54was not there on whatever safety net was set
- 4:00up for Floyd in this case. And he wasted all
- 4:04that shit pretty much instantly. Dude was a 1
- 4:09.6. billion dollar fighter like his career list
- 4:14like his earnings reported earnings 1 .6 bill
- 4:19how do you fuck that up how do you blow a billion
- 4:26dollars like and i mean floyd isn't actually
- 4:30broke he can sell some of his watches and shit
- 4:33at a loss and pay this off pretty quick but i
- 4:38don't know it's just It makes sense how he went
- 4:42broke because you just make stupid investments.
- 4:48A lot of his investments were not cheap and they
- 4:53required ongoing money. It's like when you have
- 4:57a bunch of subscriptions and you just stick them
- 4:59to a credit card and you don't check your credit
- 5:01card statement. And you just pay the minimum.
- 5:04For a billion dollars, Josh? Yeah, like a strip
- 5:09club in Vegas that you have to build from scratch,
- 5:13continually pay everyone for, pay the rent. It's
- 5:18a strip club. Strip clubs should make money.
- 5:22It doesn't make money. None of his businesses
- 5:25make money. And that's only one business venture.
- 5:28How do you fuck up that often and not quit trying?
- 5:32Well, that's why Al Heyman had the guardrails,
- 5:35right? Because, like, you have that much money,
- 5:37you think it's never going to run out, and then
- 5:39you run out of money, and then look like you're
- 5:43fucked. But, like, my broke ass cannot fathom
- 5:47this. Spending money like that, I don't, I don't,
- 5:50it breaks my brain. I don't understand. It's
- 5:54a world we cannot even imagine. But, like, think
- 5:56of it as if you right now, you have a bunch of
- 6:00subscriptions for bullshit. Like, every subscription
- 6:02you see, you sign up for. But why would you do
- 6:06that? That's more my point. Because you can afford
- 6:08it right now. Like, you can afford it. But how
- 6:10do you make so many bad decisions? Well, because
- 6:14you don't think of it as, like, oh, my God, this
- 6:17was a bad choice. It'll cost me. It's, oh, chalk
- 6:20it. It'll make money eventually. That's so stupid.
- 6:25It's really stupid. But then again, this is a
- 6:28guy who you have to remember, he can't read.
- 6:33I think this is the heart of the problem. He
- 6:36can't read. And he gets punched in the head for
- 6:38a living. And his entourage was always huge.
- 6:42And you have to pay those guys. You have to remember
- 6:44how Muhammad Ali went broke, too. He had to pay
- 6:47all his entourage his entire career and went
- 6:49broke. How do you not eventually realize that
- 6:54you're making so many bad decisions? Like, okay,
- 6:57I don't understand these contracts. I'll pay
- 7:01somebody to understand the contracts. Part of
- 7:07it is just arrogance, too. Because when you have
- 7:10the guardrail, you can just lean over the edge
- 7:15and the guardrail will catch you. Yeah. The guardrail's
- 7:19gone, you're just gonna fall off, which is what
- 7:21happened. It's fucking crazy. It's stupid. It's
- 7:25really stupid because we have learned to manage
- 7:28our money because we do not have a billion dollars.
- 7:33Floyd Mayweather Jr., specifically, never had
- 7:37to learn how to manage his money. He was a child
- 7:39prodigy getting sponsorships at age 13. I don't
- 7:49understand how you could be this nonchalant about
- 7:52money that you blow literally a billion dollars.
- 7:55It's crazy. Especially because you know the big
- 7:57thing, probably the biggest killer about the
- 8:01failed businesses isn't even that they don't
- 8:03make money and you have to pay everyone, you
- 8:05have to pay rent, you have to pay the property
- 8:06tax on them. Which is why the IRS is after him.
- 8:11Like, I'm guessing it's not unpaid taxes from
- 8:14his fights, because Al Heyman deducts the tax
- 8:16from them and then gives you your smaller check,
- 8:20relatively. And apparently stole $350 billion,
- 8:23allegedly. Stole, question mark? Like, the big
- 8:28thing here is property tax. Because, like, let's
- 8:35be real. I'm going to say Mikey Garcia is our
- 8:37golden example here. He bought a bunch of properties
- 8:41in Texas where there is zero property tax. So
- 8:45those properties, it doesn't matter if he loses
- 8:48money on the business side of them, the biggest
- 8:51aspect of owning a property doesn't bite him
- 8:53in the ass ever. Yeah. Floyd went to Nevada and
- 8:58New York and Europe and he bought a bunch of
- 9:00properties. for businesses that didn't work that
- 9:03he's still stuck paying property tax for so it's
- 9:07like it's many layers of stupidity but the thing
- 9:10is that like the failing business is something
- 9:13that you see the property tax is something that
- 9:15you you don't see if you don't you should see
- 9:18that you don't see it if you don't hire an accountant
- 9:21Why the fuck did Floyd Mayweather not hire an
- 9:25accountant that can explain to him? Hubris. He
- 9:30believes that he is capable of managing it himself.
- 9:33Yeah, like, he's managed it until now as if Heyman
- 9:39didn't manage the entire Money Mayweather era.
- 9:43But, like, again, you have to remember, Heyman
- 9:45doesn't say, I'm giving you an allowance. The
- 9:49system around you is set up so you can take money
- 9:52out but you're not allowed to waste it all on
- 9:54stupid shit. So it's not visible. It doesn't
- 9:59register to some guys. This doesn't make sense
- 10:03to me and I don't think I can make it make sense.
- 10:07It's just so far from how I am. We are just broke.
- 10:11I don't hate to say it. We're never going to
- 10:16be that rich. 1 .6 but even if i was that rich
- 10:21i can't imagine not having an accountant to tell
- 10:26me how my money's doing but that's because you've
- 10:28always existed in like having to be aware of
- 10:32it you had to learn fiscal responsibility and
- 10:37math and literacy and you have to go to school
- 10:39and then so like if at this point right now you
- 10:42gain the billion dollars you'd be very well equipped
- 10:45to use it but i'm saying if age 13 you're making
- 10:50thousands and then age 20 you're making millions
- 10:52and then age 30 you're at that hundred tens of
- 10:55millions mark yeah money money's a non -issue
- 10:59if you notice money's a non -object at each point
- 11:02in your life here yeah it the way you explain
- 11:07it makes sense but i can't imagine that i don't
- 11:10have a good enough imagination to be like oh
- 11:13yeah it's $10 million? What the fuck is that?
- 11:17No, like, you're not stupid, which is good. It's
- 11:21just plain and simple. You're not stupid, which
- 11:23is good. It's not an indictment on your character.
- 11:27It's just, like, you kind of need to put yourself
- 11:29in the shoes of somebody where money has never
- 11:33been an object. Like, think of a cat who has
- 11:38an infinite food bowl. Like, you just have, like,
- 11:41infinite food bowl. And then one day it's just
- 11:45empty because the fucking trough is empty. Yeah.
- 11:51I wonder what this means for his exhibition fight
- 11:54in Greece, though. He's going to have to take
- 11:57them. He has to take these things now. He has
- 12:00to take these things. Right, but if he can't
- 12:03get a passport, do they move it to Vegas? What
- 12:06do they do with it? The thing is that the IRS
- 12:09will, like... do anything to let you to help
- 12:13you pay back so they'll probably send him over
- 12:16with some marshals like he'll be basically under
- 12:21house arrest but they'll give him the work they'll
- 12:24give him a temporary wages yeah like temporary
- 12:27visa you send him over like basically on house
- 12:31arrest to make the money to pay them and come
- 12:34back fucking ridiculous the irs does not fuck
- 12:38around no you you never beat the irs you can
- 12:43be you can be uh like a bootlegger back in the
- 12:48prohibition times you could be a drug dealer
- 12:50today as long as the tax man gets their cut they
- 12:53don't give a shit how you yeah like literally
- 12:55like literally that's who got out uh right yeah
- 13:00and the contrast the whole like fake italic fake
- 13:04mattress store fake italian restaurant like cosa
- 13:08nostra shell schemes were just to keep the tax
- 13:12men happy. Yeah. Because as long as these members
- 13:17are... They have to get them on drug charges
- 13:20and other charges because the IRS will not cooperate
- 13:23if they're kept in good standing. You feed the
- 13:26tax men. They don't give a shit how you do it.
- 13:31The way they got Al Capone wasn't even... They
- 13:35investigated him and found... No. pay and found
- 13:39whatever it was entirely hey we're not he's not
- 13:43paying his taxes and the irs did the whole investigation
- 13:46broke him up yeah no that's what he went to jail
- 13:50for was tax evasion tax evasion that's like they're
- 13:54gonna they're gonna garnish your fucking wages
- 13:56and he has to take whatever fights he can get
- 13:58now which means it's gonna be a very hilarious
- 14:02couple years of like Floyd exhibitions. Not even
- 14:07Floyd exhibitions because he already dried up
- 14:10the market for those. It's going to be Floyd
- 14:13Mayweather, the 154 contender. Yeah, the Pacquiao
- 14:19fight is a full sanctioned bout. Yeah, like Floyd
- 14:24Mayweather, the welterweight, super welterweight
- 14:26contender in this era of super welterweights,
- 14:30by the way. Boots eats him alive. Like, imagine,
- 14:34let's be real, like, Ryan Garcia, Floyd Mayweather
- 14:39is a, if he could make the weight and, like,
- 14:42get a ranking, which it's the WBC. Of course
- 14:45he can. Suleiman's fucking on his knees giving
- 14:49him a ranking already. That's not what I would
- 14:52expect him to be on his knees for, for Floyd
- 14:54Mayweather. Yeah, like, Floyd Ryan Garcia is
- 14:59Floyd's best bet at getting out of bankruptcy.
- 15:05Fucking ridiculous. It's going to be a very interesting...
- 15:08And you know what? We can have even more fun
- 15:11hypothesizing. What if Roley beats him? Because
- 15:15Roley's also a tight list at the waist. Roley
- 15:24decks Floyd the same way he did Ryan. Roley with
- 15:30the steel chair after the IRS takes him out.
- 15:35Like, that's what I'm saying. Like, this could
- 15:37be a very funny couple years because the exhibition
- 15:41money is gone. He already, like, he already went
- 15:46through all the exhibition circuit and, like,
- 15:48clearly it wasn't enough money. It's never gonna
- 15:53be enough money if he spends like this. Yeah,
- 15:56but it's just that clearly, like, there's no
- 15:58interest in them anymore. He has to actually
- 16:00fight. Fucking crazy. At 50 years old. Goodness
- 16:07gracious. The thing is that the ideal league
- 16:13for an unk status fighter is Zufa, but Zufa isn't
- 16:16going to pay him. No, not what he needs. Not
- 16:20what he needs, not what he wants, and especially
- 16:23not after Floyd basically destroyed TKO's biggest
- 16:29ever star. If you remember, Connor never came
- 16:33back properly after the whole... Oh, McGregor.
- 16:36Yeah, McGregor. Yeah, yeah. Like, he destroyed...
- 16:39Like, that was TKO's biggest ever star. And,
- 16:46like... So, like, clearly Dana and... Dana and
- 16:50TKO still hold a grudge. So... Hilarious times.
- 16:58He's stuck having to actually contend and fight
- 17:02real fights after Pacquiao. Oh no. It's funny.
- 17:09It's probably funnier if he wins them too. What
- 17:12does that say about some of the guys that he's
- 17:15winning? That a 50 year old man is... Beating
- 17:18your ass? 50 -year -old Mayweather wins a world
- 17:22title before Virgil Ortiz might feed families.
- 17:30Saul, if you're listening, you wipe your tears,
- 17:35man. Think about it. It's just going to be so...
- 17:38It's just... There's some things in boxing that
- 17:42you just have to hope for funniest possible outcome.
- 17:49Because it's either sad or mildly amusing. Otherwise,
- 17:55you just have to hope for funniest outcome. Mayweather
- 17:59losing his O to Pacquiao would also be one of
- 18:03my favorite things. No, imagine stopping Pacquiao
- 18:09and then Rowling takes your O. That would be
- 18:12funnier, but also I just want Pacquiao to do
- 18:15it. It would be poetic justice for Pacquiao to
- 18:20do it. Yeah. See, the problem is that Pacquiao
- 18:24would do it and then immediately be like, alright
- 18:26guys, let's fight for another world title and
- 18:28then it's not Mario Barrios. No, no, but like,
- 18:35Pacquiao takes Mayweather's O and then loses
- 18:39to Raleigh. That's sad, though. No, that's just
- 18:44funny. It's not as funny. It's funnier if it's
- 18:47Ryan Garcia because... I don't like Ryan Garcia.
- 18:51Yeah, but Ryan during the build -up would say
- 18:54some fucking nonsense. He would. I feel like
- 18:58Roley, for all his sins, is rather restrained.
- 19:02He's actually pretty sharp. I actually don't
- 19:05dislike Roley. He just sucks. But he's pretty
- 19:11sharp. But he obviously doesn't suck that bad.
- 19:15No, he sucks pretty bad. It's Welterweight. He's
- 19:17pretty awful. He's pretty fucking terrible. I
- 19:21had to watch him like Rob Jackson. He's got more
- 19:22world titles than you. And Virgil. I had to watch
- 19:30him Rob Jackson Marina is only for Richard Comey
- 19:33to like break Marina's jaw with the slowest right
- 19:37hand I've seen in my entire life. I also like
- 19:43Comey. Rolly's not great. He's not even good,
- 19:47but he's sharp. He's pretty sharp on the mic,
- 19:50and he's funny. He's funny to watch fight because
- 19:55you get the little Eric Cartman noises that they
- 19:57turn up the fight noise for. That's what I'm
- 20:01saying. That's the fun part. Let's roll on. We'll
- 20:10talk about the fight in a moment, but Turkey
- 20:13wants Usyk versus Benavidez in 2027. I am shaking
- 20:21my head fucking no, man. That's disgusting. Where?
- 20:28I would want to see it, but it's disgusting.
- 20:33Considering, like, I would rather see it than
- 20:36his current circus fight. Dubois 3, Fury 3, AJ
- 20:413. Like, at least it's a new guy where, like...
- 20:46We'll get into it later. A little later. But
- 20:49I was just like, that performance is fucking
- 20:50terrifying. It's not... Actually, if you think
- 20:57about it, it's not a bad fight. No, like, it's
- 21:00not... Honestly, like, the weight jump is about
- 21:04the same. It's less than what Benavidez just
- 21:08jumped up. But also, I think Usyk could still
- 21:12make 200 if they want to make it a cruiserweight
- 21:14fight. Usyk has notoriously complained during
- 21:18his heavyweight campaign that aside from being
- 21:22away from his family, the worst part of camp
- 21:26is how much he has to eat to maintain 220. I
- 21:31think they could make an Usyk Benavidez cruiserweight
- 21:34fight, and it wouldn't be ridiculous. No, Usyk
- 21:38wouldn't be drained. No. Because, like, he...
- 21:42Yeah. This is also a circus fight in its own
- 21:46way. Yeah. Like, it's a very Roy Jones Jr. circus
- 21:50fight. Yeah. Because, like, there's no way it's
- 21:53going to be competitive. Like, Usyk is... too
- 21:58good to say the least like it's not uh like when
- 22:01you think of bevel you see bevel moves in these
- 22:05like very straight lines across the ring like
- 22:09if you were if you see him circle the ring he
- 22:11cuts it into like a like an octagon like you
- 22:14can very clearly see the straight lines he moves
- 22:17in laterally and horizontally right with usic
- 22:21the movement is a little too dynamic for david
- 22:25to confidently cut the ring off against with
- 22:28the size disparity not being in his favor. It
- 22:34is an intriguing fight, but also just let people
- 22:37fight at the weights they want. I hate this.
- 22:41You did good here. You have to move up so we
- 22:44can see you lose. Especially when it's like,
- 22:48I don't think Caballel is like... the contender
- 22:54that people say he is for Usyk, but I'd rather
- 22:58Usyk fight Caballel and David fight someone else
- 23:04at light heavyweight who's worth it than just
- 23:09waste part of it. Because the thing is that Usyk's
- 23:11on his way out and he's going to win. Usyk's
- 23:15on his retirement tour whether he says it or
- 23:17not. Yeah, like Usyk's, like, he's done and Okay,
- 23:22either he loses to Benavidez and you're like,
- 23:24cool, you beat up an old man. Yeah. Or, like,
- 23:30it does not, there's just no point because it's
- 23:34like, Benavidez, like, once Benavidez, like,
- 23:36let's say, let's say if we reach this point after
- 23:39Benavidez, like, he actually got the fight with
- 23:42Canelo because he didn't lose his title twice
- 23:44and beat him. He beats all of the guys at 175,
- 23:48beats Zerto. Okay, then, like, it's, There's
- 23:52no one left. But there's guys left. This is a
- 23:56plus for Benavidez, but Usyk doesn't gain anything,
- 24:00even if he beats Benavidez. If Usyk beats Benavidez,
- 24:04it's, oh, it's some guy you pulled up that...
- 24:06You beat a guy from 168, like it's fucking fabulous.
- 24:11And if Benavidez beats him, it's wow. Like, you
- 24:14throw heavyweight out. Even with the Zerto win,
- 24:18though? The Zerto win is just different because,
- 24:22like, I will say that Zerto was weighing at,
- 24:29like, 200 pounds on fight night when he was at
- 24:31168. Yeah. I will say Zerto is, like, a weight
- 24:36terrorist. It's not a weight bully for Zerto.
- 24:41This guy was a weight terrorist, and Zerto looked
- 24:45huge over him. But Usyk is, like, Zerto's 6 '3",
- 24:49right? I think so. Usyk is 6 '3", 220, and it's
- 24:56muscle. It's not just Zerto being a fat ass and
- 24:59rehydrating. So you have the same size disparity
- 25:04with better reach, better power, better everything.
- 25:11It's not the same as Zerto. I just wonder if
- 25:17moving up, To fight Zerto, does that not kind
- 25:23of negate the argument that an Usyk detractor
- 25:28would make that you just pulled Benavidez up
- 25:32from a smaller weight division and then you beat
- 25:36up on a smaller guy? Like, no, Benavidez came
- 25:39up and he beat the shit out of the guy at 200.
- 25:44Well, it's also just the... That argument gets
- 25:49used for detractors here because Cruiserweight's
- 25:52historically weak. True. Like, if he came up...
- 25:56You're also being too logical, Leo. People don't
- 25:59give a shit about, like, facts that he already
- 26:03beat someone at that weight class. Right, like,
- 26:05he climbed the ranks, or he climbed the weight
- 26:08classes. Like, with the proper mental calculus...
- 26:11But people don't care. The proper mental calculus
- 26:13is that Cruiserweight is exceptionally weak for
- 26:16Zerto to flourish in it. Because, like, let's
- 26:19say if Benavides does this leap during 2018 and
- 26:23he's fighting, like, Maris Bredis or Gassiev
- 26:27when they were actually in form. Yeah. Like,
- 26:31it's far more impressive, but there's also no
- 26:34guarantee that he wins them. Nowhere near as
- 26:38dominantly. Hmm. Because, like, again, like,
- 26:42I'd say Zerto was around the level that, like,
- 26:44Marco Huck was in 2018. I just think the haters
- 26:50are going to hate no matter what, and they'll
- 26:51always find the reason why it's not good enough.
- 26:56There's just no point to it, and the timing isn't
- 27:00right. I think that post -Usyk, once David presumably
- 27:05clears everything out, that's when a one -off
- 27:11Roy Jones Jr. fight against whoever... One of
- 27:16the title holders is. Yeah. Like, you know, I'm
- 27:20not mad at, like, Caballel Benavidez. In Germany,
- 27:24that's a fun as fuck fight. Right? Like, that
- 27:27one -off against one of the weaker belt holders,
- 27:30like, three years from now is not a bad shout.
- 27:34But Usyk's retirement tour, it's just not right
- 27:39for what it realistically is. Yeah, I would agree.
- 27:45Or either guy, because, like, Benavidez, like...
- 27:48Benavidez doesn't gain enough, and Usyk doesn't
- 27:52need to do it. No, like, he... I'd much rather
- 27:56see Benavidez beat the dog shit out of Bivol
- 27:59before even, like, entertaining an Usyk matchup.
- 28:03Because if he beats... It's, like, more of a,
- 28:05like, if. Like, if he beats the absolute dog
- 28:08shit out of Bivol, fine, fine, let's see it.
- 28:11I'd even take better BF. In that vein. Yeah.
- 28:17They better be able... There's guys. There's
- 28:21still guys. They're Usyk's last -gen guys, too.
- 28:28Yeah. At a more comfortable weight class. Because,
- 28:33again, Usyk looks small versus these titans,
- 28:37but Usyk is a big fucking guy. It's like... I
- 28:45guess the best way to describe Usyk is you watch
- 28:49Steph Curry during a basketball game or you watch
- 28:51a guy who's 6 '3 during an NBA game and these
- 28:54guys are like monsters, right? And then you see
- 28:58him at a school doing a talk or something and
- 29:00he towers over every normal person. My perfect
- 29:04example of that is Steve Nash. Yeah. He was like
- 29:086 '1 and he looked like a fucking midget on the
- 29:11court. Yeah. He's a small guard. Yeah. He's a
- 29:15small guard. Yeah, small, quote -unquote. Yeah,
- 29:18and then you see him in public, and he's fucking,
- 29:20and Usyk's two inches taller. And has, like,
- 29:2550 pounds on Steve Nash. So, like, I feel like
- 29:29Benavidez is, like, he's big, but he's not heavyweight
- 29:33big. Yeah, I can see that. And he's not heavyweight
- 29:38athletic like Roy was. argue yeah i can see that
- 29:44i can see that argument because roy roy let's
- 29:47be real roy's feat is extremely impressive but
- 29:51he also fought one of the worst heavyweight champions
- 29:53ever oh for sure ruiz like john ruiz john ruiz
- 29:58jr is fucking terrible he's only like genuinely
- 30:02only charles martin and wardley are worse charles
- 30:07martin I didn't even know Charles Martin was
- 30:11a champion. He was the IBF champion because he
- 30:15fought Glassov, was getting his face caved in,
- 30:20and then at the end of the round, Glassov's knee
- 30:23decided to literally explode. I will have you
- 30:30know that Charles Martin's power is what caused
- 30:32his knee to explode. Because his divine power,
- 30:36because he walks the earth like a god. But that's
- 30:40how, but that, I'm saying that's the standard
- 30:42of heavyweight champion guys moving up from,
- 30:44like, cruiserweight and light heavyweight for
- 30:47these, the meme fights, usually fight. Yeah,
- 30:50like, Usyk broke that. Michael Moore wasn't fighting
- 30:54Lennox Lewis and, like, Riddick Bowe. He was
- 30:57fighting, like, even when he moved up as a full
- 31:01-time heavyweight and he was fighting, like,
- 31:03Holyfield and, like, Foreman was his one title
- 31:06fight against a full -sized, great heavyweight,
- 31:11even if he was 44, and you saw the result. Usyk
- 31:18did break that series, though. Usyk fought fucking
- 31:22everybody who was anybody. But he's also big.
- 31:25He's taller than George Foreman. Yeah, well,
- 31:29heavyweights have just all gotten super tall.
- 31:32So I'm just saying, like, the size disparity
- 31:34isn't like, oh, Benavidez is big and he fits
- 31:36in. It's Benavidez is tiny and is even tinier
- 31:41right now because of the era. We have to keep
- 31:45it rolling. Yeah, no worries. No, yeah. Last
- 31:50bit of news. Abdullah Mason versus Joe Cordina
- 31:52is official for July 4th in Cleveland. Raz. In
- 31:59Cleveland. Yeah. Who's from Cleveland? Mason?
- 32:02Yeah. LeBron James. Just Akron, actually. But
- 32:07this is some Anthony Caccacci matchmaking. I
- 32:12can't lie. I'm eager for Abdullah Mason to end
- 32:16the Cordina train. I just, like, I think it'd
- 32:22be, I think Mason. These are fights that are
- 32:25necessary for Mason to eventually learn to listen
- 32:28to his corner. Ever. If he could, it would be
- 32:33nice if he did. Yeah, because he just, like,
- 32:37pretty much every flaw with this pretty raw fighter,
- 32:40just his corner is actually good. But my main
- 32:44thing is that it's kind of funny seeing these
- 32:46growing pains happen exclusively against British
- 32:49fighters. Yeah. That's what I find a little funny.
- 32:55I actually kind of like Joe Cordina. He has no
- 32:58chance, but... Oh, Jesus. Kakashi beat the piss
- 33:01out of him last time in a big fight. That's why
- 33:05I'm saying he's going on the Anthony Kakashi
- 33:07route of, like, let's beat up all these washed
- 33:09has -been Brits. Everybody knows I'm super biased
- 33:13and I don't pick my favorites because they're
- 33:16good. But it's going to make me sad to see Cordina
- 33:20beat... beat up by mason god bless america god
- 33:26bless america on july 4th too is really funny
- 33:29all american boy is beating up a brit on july
- 33:364th god damn oh my god i need to see the i need
- 33:44to see like apollo creed trunks with I had to
- 33:49see Apollo Creed trucks with Semper Fi. You know
- 33:52that walkout before he got killed by Drago? I
- 33:55need that with the... With James Brown. Yeah,
- 33:59I need that, man. That's the type of July 4th
- 34:02show. It's a good setup for Mason. I know this
- 34:10is just a setup fight, but... He needs to take
- 34:16advantage. If he does not look super good and
- 34:19doesn't do the crazy American walkout, I will
- 34:22be disappointed. Oh, listen, I'm turning it off
- 34:25if I don't see the American walkout. Literally,
- 34:27you're going to see me just, I'm done. You're
- 34:31not even American. I know, but I need to see,
- 34:34it's the entertainment value. It's the entertainment
- 34:35value. It is. It is. You're not even American
- 34:39either and you'd still appreciate the... I would.
- 34:42I would 100 % appreciate it. The walkouts are
- 34:45like 20 % of boxing to me. Yeah. That's why I
- 34:50hate that Zufa is trying to take away... That's
- 34:52a major beef I have with Zufa trying to take
- 34:54away the individuality of it. The walkouts and
- 34:58the trunks and the whole thing. It's a whole
- 35:01art. It's not just the sponsorship. It's the
- 35:03individual character of these fighters. Yeah,
- 35:07that's my biggest beef with Zufa. Like, listen,
- 35:11I... Like, nothing will be as cool. Like, listen,
- 35:15Germany has its many flaws as a boxing country
- 35:19from an organizational perspective. But nothing
- 35:23will be as cool. The Dr. Steelhammer workout?
- 35:25The one with the hologram door that opens, and
- 35:30then he talks to a bunch of other previous heavyweight
- 35:33champions, George Forbes. That's what I'm saying.
- 35:35That's the one I'm talking about, but they had
- 35:37blacksmiths hammering anvils as he walked out.
- 35:41Yeah. That's how you fucking do it. Or even like
- 35:45AJs in the UK are like simple, but like... Like,
- 35:51the big, like, pyrotechnic AJ as he, like, walks
- 35:55out. Like, that's its character. It's a big part
- 36:00of the character. We'll talk about it later.
- 36:01The Inoue Nakatani walkouts were fucking awesome.
- 36:05Oh, they were so tense. That was the best. They're
- 36:07so good. Let's roll on, and we'll get right to
- 36:12it. Really quickly, the social media handle,

- 40:45Wednesday, April 29th. Matchroom on DAZN. In
- 40:51Victoria, Australia. Tara Moana gets the first
- 40:58round stoppage over Bowie Tupou. And Sky Nicholson
- 41:02gets a bloody UD over Mariah Turner. That was
- 41:09a pretty good knockout. I can't even hate. I
- 41:12can't hate. Didn't stall. Got rid of him. I'm
- 41:17happy. He's doing what he's supposed to do. I'm
- 41:21not mad about that. These Aussie cards are always
- 41:25so A -side heavy. There's hardly ever wars on
- 41:31Aussie cards. It's my only complaint. Sky Nicholson
- 41:35vs. Mariette Turner was a good one. It was pretty
- 41:37good. I have to admit, I didn't. My favorite,
- 41:41they used to have this guy. He's retired now.
- 41:45They had this 7 '2 guy who would fight whatever,
- 41:49like, heavyweight journeyman. He'd never fight
- 41:51the prospects. He'd get into, like, really sloppy
- 41:56fights with the heavyweight journeyman, like,
- 41:59in between, like, blue chip prospects. His name
- 42:01was Julius Long. oh i recognize that name his
- 42:05name he was like seven two and whenever he got
- 42:08hurt he'd start like flailing his arms around
- 42:10like an inflatable man at the car dealership
- 42:13and like he was always a highlight of these cards
- 42:17i like good that he's retired good for his health
- 42:20but like i'm very sad that he's off these cards
- 42:24because like The prelims are always so boring
- 42:27and A -side heavy, and then you just get Julius
- 42:30Long and some guy who's 13 and 27 going the balls
- 42:35to the wall. Because Long was not a bad boxer.
- 42:39It's just whenever he got grazed, he went into
- 42:41inflatable man mode. So he's very sorely missed
- 42:47on these Australian cards. All right. Friday,
- 42:53May 1st. ProBox TV. I have a few that I want
- 42:58to point out on the undercard. Jordan Roach got
- 43:02a nice stoppage in one. He came into this fight
- 43:077 -0, so he's doing what he's supposed to do.
- 43:12One that really stood out to me was Charles Harris
- 43:15vs. Blake Fialca. Charles Harris didn't get the
- 43:21stoppage. But he's a bow mat guy, and he had
- 43:26just really good fundamentals, really good punch
- 43:34selection. He boxed a really smart game. It was
- 43:40really impressive. I liked it. I'm hopeful to
- 43:44see more of him. The co -main. Francois Scarborough
- 43:52gets the UD over Maxwell Montez. And the main
- 43:57event, Sembatar Erdenabat gets the UD over Kobia
- 44:01Brady. Brutal fight. He beat the piss out of
- 44:06him. I thought it was fun. Sembatar, big fan.
- 44:13He's fun. Yeah, I'm a fan. I always tune in for
- 44:18his fights. I also just like seeing small countries
- 44:25like Mongolia have good fighters. Like we talked
- 44:28about last week with Denmark. It's good. It's
- 44:32really good when, you know, it's more of a global
- 44:36sport. Because, I mean, we saw with the UK when,
- 44:40like, Audley Harrison and, what is it, Amir Khan
- 44:46won their gold medals, or their medals, Olympic
- 44:49medals. you immediately saw that boom in amateur
- 44:53gyms and everything, and that's how we have this
- 44:55current crisis of British fighters polluting
- 44:57our sport. Right? And it's good that that happens
- 45:03in other countries, because just generally, it's
- 45:09more places to have fights in, and you get to
- 45:11see who the next stars will be. And Erdogan is
- 45:15actually pretty good. I don't know if he'll be
- 45:17a world title list or whatever, but he's on the
- 45:21doorstep. No, I like it when they're actually
- 45:24good. That's the big one. Yeah, yeah. It's nice
- 45:27when they're good. I'm not just pushing other
- 45:31countries. Yeah, you're not just supporting half
- 45:36of the Saudi plants that are on the fucking Riyadh
- 45:39cards. Erdenbot's good. I don't know if he's
- 45:44really good, but he's good. He's fun and he's
- 45:48good enough, which is... And he looks so Mongolian
- 45:53and I love his walkouts. The Breedy guy, he was
- 45:59from the Bahamas. Speaking of small countries.
- 46:05Bahamanian. Barbados. is his nationality oh is
- 46:13it he's Barbasian okay my mistake I for some
- 46:17reason I thought it was Bahamian I I didn't even
- 46:21know how you turned that into a you know what
- 46:24I mean like he's from the Barbados yeah yeah
- 46:28Barbasian I know that one it's uh one time when
- 46:32I was stationed in Korea I was I was driving
- 46:37one of the the the senior guys somewhere and
- 46:41his wife, like the vehicle broke down. And while
- 46:46we were waiting for the, for like a tow or whatever,
- 46:50like we were just chatting and he was like, Oh
- 46:53yeah, my wife is Barbadian. I would not have
- 46:58guessed that one. I would, I wouldn't have either.
- 47:00I was like, what? I'm sorry. What, what did you
- 47:03just say? From where? Yeah, like, what are you
- 47:07talking about? Ohashi, at the Tokyo Dome. Shanada,
- 47:14you were present. I was there. Oh, my God, it
- 47:18was so much fun. God, you were waiting to say
- 47:20that. You've been waiting to say that for two
- 47:21and a half hours. I have. I was there. Like,
- 47:24you could feel it just. But, like, I don't think
- 47:29people can understand how hype. a live boxing
- 47:33event of this size is until you go to it so i
- 47:37showed up four hours before the first fight i
- 47:42met a friend for lunch and he's he got there
- 47:45an hour before me so five hours before the first
- 47:48fight he's like yeah i got in line an hour ago
- 47:52but i'm still waiting to buy my in a way merchandise
- 47:55an hour an hour so i ended up standing like in
- 48:02a corner for half an hour waiting for him to
- 48:04get out of line for his merchandise it was crazy
- 48:08there were so many people if you check the instagram
- 48:13i did a quick video that video was four hours
- 48:17before first fight and there was hundreds of
- 48:21people there leo i think hundreds is very easy
- 48:24to say And then we went for lunch and I got the
- 48:30Ioka store opened late because he's not so popular.
- 48:34But I got in line to buy an Ioka t -shirt half
- 48:38an hour before the store opened. And like I was
- 48:44not at the front of the line. I was quite far
- 48:47back. And then just waiting with everyone to
- 48:52get into the place. Like the atmosphere was crazy.
- 48:56and there was uh japanese television was interviewing
- 49:02people everywhere it was it was so cool i don't
- 49:07even know how to describe the atmosphere like
- 49:09everyone was hyped about this and they got there
- 49:13so early like i thought four hours was crazy
- 49:16and then i was like oh yeah no like my friend
- 49:20was right we should be there four hours before
- 49:23the first fight like Two and a half hours before
- 49:27doors open. Like, and during the fights, like
- 49:33in between fights, you know, you go to the bathroom
- 49:35or whatever. It took me not half an hour, but
- 49:39probably 20 minutes to get to the bathroom in
- 49:44between fights. Like it was just sardines packed,
- 49:49walking to the bathroom. The girls' bathroom
- 49:53had almost no line, but just the hallway to get
- 49:57there was fucking madness. Oh, that didn't even
- 50:02occur to me until you mentioned it, but yeah,
- 50:04of course the women's didn't have any line. Here's
- 50:07the real question I have. Were you seated next
- 50:10to someone who was yelling, go on my son, but
- 50:13in Japanese? I was seated next to a Junto fan.
- 50:20Who was going, go on my son. basically yes okay
- 50:24it's a universal it's universal they don't the
- 50:28section i was in i think was so when you order
- 50:33tickets you could order up to four tickets for
- 50:36the lottery like you could apply for up to four
- 50:39tickets i think my section was mostly singles
- 50:42like nobody seemed to be with friends yeah no
- 50:46groups so they were all super quiet and nobody
- 50:49was yelling and i was like I'm just going to
- 50:52yell. I don't really care. You're going to break
- 50:55the seal. Yeah. But you can really... Go on my
- 51:00son in shocking British English. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:03Well, go on my son in Japanese is basically gambere.
- 51:07Like, do your best. You can do it. Yeah. Oh,
- 51:10my God. They were actually... It transcends borders.
- 51:13They do yell that a lot. Oh, my God. I love that.
- 51:17God, I love this sport sometimes. The essence
- 51:21of go on, my son. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, it
- 51:24has a very similar feel. But, man, like, I can't
- 51:30tell people what the atmosphere was like because
- 51:32I just don't have the words. It was everybody
- 51:36was excited. Everybody was there for the same
- 51:39thing. It didn't, like, I don't speak Japanese,
- 51:43so it's hard for me to, like. connect with japanese
- 51:46people but you didn't have to because you're
- 51:50there for the same reason like everybody knows
- 51:55that's why you're here and uh i bought an ioka
- 51:59shirt which really stood out because everyone
- 52:02was wearing nakatani or in a way merchandise
- 52:06but a few people were like oh uh ioka and i was
- 52:13like yeah and then like Oh, you're a real fan
- 52:16because you didn't submit to the peer pressure
- 52:19of picking a main event fighter, kind of. Like,
- 52:23I got multiple comments, and I've never had that
- 52:27before. Yeah, the whole day was super fucking
- 52:31fun. I met up with a friend that I met at boxing,
- 52:34and we only talk on text, and we went out for
- 52:38lunch. and he had a whole in a way tracksuit
- 52:42with the pants and the shirt and a jacket goodness
- 52:45gracious he went all in yeah yeah yeah and uh
- 52:50we went for ramen and we just talked boxing for
- 52:53an hour and then he walked me to my gate it it
- 52:57was super nice it was so much fun into the fights
- 53:03um What I have on the dock here, anything before
- 53:11Jin Sasaki that stands out? I just want to shout
- 53:16out Raya Abe because I met him while we were
- 53:19walking out of the venue. He walked in the huge
- 53:22crowd with everyone else and just went to the
- 53:25train station. But took time out of his day to
- 53:30take a picture with a fan. Also, it was a mixed
- 53:35decision. I think he might have won, but obviously
- 53:40I'm biased because I'm a huge fan. I was so excited
- 53:46to get a picture with him. Man, I wish I could
- 53:51argue whether or not it was a majority decision
- 53:54or not, but I didn't get to see it. What do you
- 54:02know about that? Shout out the super middleweights
- 54:07on this card as well. Allegedly, in paper. They
- 54:13were good. I was texted and told they were good
- 54:15by Shenada here. Yeah, Yuito, Moriwaka, and Deoknokun.
- 54:23I heard they were good. I heard this would be
- 54:25my favorite type of phone booth fight. Shame
- 54:29I didn't get to fucking see it either. I wrote
- 54:32a write -up because before we get to the other
- 54:36fights, I'll summarize it here. This zone fucking
- 54:39sucks, and it's literally one of the major reasons
- 54:43why Zoof was able to get into this sport so easily,
- 54:45because the quality of the biggest source of
- 54:48our beloved sport is dog shit in the West. And
- 54:53it was especially noticeable on this night. ESPN
- 54:55KO had all the fights, zero audio problems, zero
- 54:59video problems, and commentary that didn't feel
- 55:02like Ken and Barbie dolls talking about whatever
- 55:06the fuck they're making up. The Zone had consistent
- 55:09audio problems, only showed like three fights,
- 55:13and the commentators were the usual British shitbags
- 55:18who just make up narratives instead of commentating
- 55:21the fight in front of them. It is legitimately
- 55:24a fucking travesty that they did not show Sora
- 55:28Tanaka versus Jin Sasaki. That fight, listen,
- 55:31if Lopez Gallegos wasn't this year, that's an
- 55:34easy fight of the year. Because Lopez Gallegos
- 55:38is my fight of the year. But this is like, in
- 55:42any other year, this is like an easy contender.
- 55:47This is something that everyone needs to go find.
- 55:50I know it's out there on the internet. Sora Tanaka
- 55:53versus Jin Sasaki was a no -defense, all -offense
- 56:00slopfest that I had pegged to be a knockout.
- 56:04Like, I told everyone, this is going to be a
- 56:07knockout either way. It was not. It went to split
- 56:10decision, and I do not understand how. Like,
- 56:15both these guys have power, both these guys have
- 56:17lots of knockouts, and they just ate fucking
- 56:20punches for ten rounds. I can't lie, that was
- 56:23Tanaka's fight to lose, and he did lose it, because
- 56:27those right uppercuts were on auto -aim, and
- 56:32then he literally, like, land three. Like, wild,
- 56:37wild, like... Why the fuck is he going to land?
- 56:39And then he'd try and throw, like, a regular
- 56:42one -two, miss horribly, and then Sasaki just
- 56:45dogged him. But that was definitely a, like,
- 56:49my turn, your turn fight. Yeah, no, it was just,
- 56:52it was so good. I caught it on the ESPN KO feed
- 56:55because fuck the zone. This was just, like, this,
- 57:02like, and again. This fight, it's particularly
- 57:05devastating here because this fight was gangbusters.
- 57:10But I, even if it wasn't, why are we getting
- 57:14less fights when the zone has the rights to all
- 57:17of them? And also just in general, why the fuck
- 57:21was Takei co -main? I get you have to split.
- 57:26Yeah, no. Naoya and Takuma, but put Jin Sasaki
- 57:30second. Everyone knew this was going to be gangbusters.
- 57:33Who the fuck made this card? It's just, I don't
- 57:37even blame the Japanese companies, because I'm
- 57:39sure, like, whatever, there's a piss break before
- 57:41the Inuways, whatever, I don't care. Yeah, I
- 57:45did actually appreciate the, I can go pee and
- 57:48buy a beer and take 20 minutes because the crowd
- 57:51is crazy. Yeah, like, these are all, like...
- 57:54but i just what i don't get is the the pacing
- 57:57of this card was actually not bad even with the
- 58:00piss break um but i just don't get the zone will
- 58:05dig into their bag to get the lowest of the low
- 58:09four digit ranks like over a thousand best fighter
- 58:13in the world, Australian and British bullshit
- 58:16fights that nobody watches, nobody wants to watch,
- 58:19but they cannot get the full super fight card.
- 58:25It's like getting one of those 90s super fight
- 58:28HBO cards, then sorry, you missed out on watching
- 58:32Eric Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, because
- 58:35we didn't feel like putting it on the fucking
- 58:36stream. It's fucking ridiculous. Everyone always
- 58:46complains that the Japanese fighters don't get
- 58:50enough publicity, but it's because of companies
- 58:54like DAZN. These guys deserve their airtime.
- 59:02They very clearly earned their airtime. Everyone
- 59:06was bitching that the American card was so much
- 59:09better, but I'm like, you missed the fun. In
- 59:13a way Nakatani was high level but you missed
- 59:16the fun fights of the Japanese card just because
- 59:20you're in the west and it's not your fault but
- 59:23Jesus Christ like these guys deserve it they're
- 59:28they're fun and they're exciting and it's it's
- 59:32boxing just show the fights to everyone Yeah,
- 59:39like, this is, like, here's a good example. Like,
- 59:42we're just gonna cut out... You just cut out,
- 59:46like, any of the 90s, like, Don King cards. Let's
- 59:49just cut, like, half of it out. Just cause. Yeah.
- 59:54Like, who the fuck needs to see Meldrick Taylor?
- 59:58I'm gonna cut the last 15 minutes of the podcast
- 1:00:00just because, like... Just cause. Just cause,
- 1:00:04why not? Yeah. why not like it's just it's not
- 1:00:07good for the sport if the home of boxing if someone
- 1:00:09doesn't want to watch it or someone wants to
- 1:00:11like because the thing is that you can skip it
- 1:00:13it's on streaming not streaming it not streaming
- 1:00:17it also means that it doesn't go into your archive
- 1:00:21so it's just gone in the west so like i don't
- 1:00:26give a like listen you can find every single
- 1:00:29one of campbell hatton's fights on this piece
- 1:00:31of shit platform but you cannot find half of
- 1:00:35this super fight card that you charged people
- 1:00:38the super subscription price for. I grumble as
- 1:00:45one who paid for it. Like, I don't get it. Why
- 1:00:50are we... It's not like, oh, DAZN's new and they
- 1:00:53only got the rights to the biggest fight. Like,
- 1:00:55no. They've been around for so long that they've
- 1:00:58been shuffled around by unethical billionaires.
- 1:01:01They started with Russian oligarchs and now we're
- 1:01:04on the Saudi oligarchs. Like, they've been passed
- 1:01:06around. Like a blunt, like a fucking blunt and
- 1:01:10no, just nothing. We still haven't got, like,
- 1:01:13Chris Mannix is still commentating the American
- 1:01:15fucking cards. Because it's just the, like, it's
- 1:01:21just the product being so inferior and not even
- 1:01:25showing the full product is just, if it was just
- 1:01:28a one. I wouldn't mind that much. I'd be mad,
- 1:01:31but I could be complacent. That opener fight
- 1:01:37was also fun. I don't think it was a draw. I
- 1:01:41think the Osaka guy, Tanaka, should have won.
- 1:01:44But you know what? It was a really fun fight.
- 1:01:48Home cooking, fuck it. But even the Reia Abe
- 1:01:53fight, less exciting. There was more boxing and
- 1:01:58less just punch each other in the face. But it
- 1:02:02was a good fight. DAZN should show this to the
- 1:02:07world. Everyone complains that Japanese boxing
- 1:02:12is not good, but they don't get to see the fun,
- 1:02:15exciting Japanese fights. It's that it's inaccessible.
- 1:02:19It's inaccessible, and the thing is that, again,
- 1:02:22who cares if it's not good? I like it. I like
- 1:02:26fun more than good most of the time. It's like,
- 1:02:30I can appreciate good. Like, we're gonna get
- 1:02:33to Inoue and Nakatani, and that fight was clearly
- 1:02:36the best one. The best high -level matchup of
- 1:02:40the entire day. Right, but that's not the most
- 1:02:43fun matchup. No, the fun one was the two morons
- 1:02:46beating on each other back and forth for ten
- 1:02:48rounds. Like, Sora Tanaka and Jin Sasaki are
- 1:02:52clones. I have been telling people, like, do
- 1:02:55you remember in the first Pokemon movie when
- 1:02:59Mewtwo had the clones and they were fighting
- 1:03:01each other and they were the exact same? Yeah.
- 1:03:04That was what that fight was, and I was so hyped
- 1:03:08for it. And Jin Sasaki milks his walkouts so
- 1:03:13fucking bad. His walkout was... the best of corny
- 1:03:19walkouts you could ever hope for like he's he's
- 1:03:23good but he's not that good but he walks out
- 1:03:26like he is the best in the fucking world he choreographed
- 1:03:31that walkout he has a character he his robe was
- 1:03:37great but he also had clearly like points in
- 1:03:41the walkout where he needed to hit his mark and
- 1:03:44he nailed fucking all of them and the music would
- 1:03:46change and then he'd like emote and then the
- 1:03:50music would change and like no like i just there's
- 1:03:56no you have the rights and you're just not showing
- 1:03:58it for no reason you don't even have to work
- 1:04:01on it because it's like you could literally i
- 1:04:03swear to god you could have no commentary on
- 1:04:06it and just show the in stadium audio and you'd
- 1:04:09have the that'd be the best product I don't have
- 1:04:13to hear, like... Because the thing is that...
- 1:04:16This is in my article, too. The part that I loathe
- 1:04:21most about DAZN's commentary is that they have
- 1:04:24good commentators on payroll. They're just relegated
- 1:04:28to, like, Uzbekistan journeyman cards and not,
- 1:04:32like, the nice stuff. Like, why is Koi... The
- 1:04:36British saying of Japanese names bugs me. And
- 1:04:40I'm not super good. They have Corey Erdman and
- 1:04:43Chris Algieri locked up in a Newsbecky basement.
- 1:04:47Chris Algieri is a good commentator. I really
- 1:04:50like Chris Algieri. I heard him and Erdman a
- 1:04:53couple years ago on one of the Newsbeck prospect
- 1:04:58showcase cards. And I'm like, listen, I am falling
- 1:05:02asleep from the quality of these fights. But
- 1:05:05the commentary is still engaged, insightful,
- 1:05:09and reflective of the reality in front of me,
- 1:05:13which is something that no other DAZN commentary
- 1:05:15crew does. This pisses me off because I follow
- 1:05:19Algieri's podcast, and he really wanted to come
- 1:05:24here, and they wouldn't pay him to come here.
- 1:05:26No. And the thing is that the ESPN KO guys...
- 1:05:29I mean, we watched, what was that fight we watched?
- 1:05:33It was basic, it was at Koroku and we watched
- 1:05:35it early in the morning. The Japanese fight,
- 1:05:37right? Yeah, the Japanese, oh, was it Tsutsumi?
- 1:05:40No. Or no, someone's, fuck, who was it? But we
- 1:05:45watched it, but we watched it on ESPN KO and
- 1:05:48the commentators were, they were not the most
- 1:05:52knowledgeable still. They didn't even know what
- 1:05:55the referee was saying at times. But, you know,
- 1:05:59they were there, they were liking the action,
- 1:06:02and when they didn't get something, they were
- 1:06:05pretty tongue -in -cheek about it in earnest,
- 1:06:07as if they were actually engaged with what they're
- 1:06:11watching, which is the bare minimum. Yeah, like,
- 1:06:12I don't know what he's saying, but this is a
- 1:06:15good fight type stuff. Yeah, like, I understand
- 1:06:19Spanish, like, I speak Spanish, and it's just,
- 1:06:22like, they get it. They just get it. Like, listen,
- 1:06:27some of my favorite commentary moments are, like,
- 1:06:29Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. going apeshit over a Bronco
- 1:06:33Lara fight. And, like, objectively, it's not
- 1:06:38good commentary. He's going crazy. But it's fun
- 1:06:41and engaging. The passion. They care. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:06:45Like, let's be real. Like, the guy screaming,
- 1:06:49bang, during fuck, or, like, all the famous basketball
- 1:06:52calls is not good commentary. By the foot of
- 1:06:55the letter. But it's. Integral to the product.
- 1:07:00Yeah. Like. Imagine if. Like if a Frazier foreman.
- 1:07:07Was commentated by DAZN. They'd be off on a tangent.
- 1:07:11And be like oh Frazier goes down. Instead of
- 1:07:14like. Yeah. The drawn out down goes Frazier call.
- 1:07:22Like. Anyway. We should probably move on to the
- 1:07:25fights. It's a fucking travesty that you guys
- 1:07:31didn't get to see Sasaki versus Tanaka. It's
- 1:07:36just really important to point out accessibility
- 1:07:38when the sport is actively under threat by people
- 1:07:43who want to make it an inferior product. What
- 1:07:49we did get to see... Takuma Inoue beats Kazuto
- 1:07:54Ioka pretty much like sweeps. Yeah. This made
- 1:08:02me so sad. I kind of expected it. I expected
- 1:08:06it, but I didn't want it to be like this. You
- 1:08:10know what I mean? I know Ioka's old. I know he's
- 1:08:14gone too far up in weight, but I had hope. Yeah,
- 1:08:23we were the same. We were the same. It'd be cool
- 1:08:28if he could, he probably won't. And he won't,
- 1:08:31he didn't. He didn't. But he made it to decision,
- 1:08:37which after the first round, I didn't expect.
- 1:08:41And I think he made a good showing. I think Ioka's
- 1:08:44probably ready to retire. I think this might
- 1:08:47be the push. I'm never going to win another belt.
- 1:08:51Maybe a couple more wins to go out on. Yeah.
- 1:08:55A couple more hundreds of rounds of hard sparring.
- 1:09:00I really like Ioka. I'm super happy Ioka got
- 1:09:04to fight in Tokyo Dome in front of people. I
- 1:09:08know he lost, but... You know what? I'm just
- 1:09:12happy we got to see his peak, too. Like, I'm
- 1:09:16very happy I got to watch him fight. Kosei Tanaka
- 1:09:20and just Molly Wap. Because that was the lower
- 1:09:26weight Japanese showdown. Before this. That was
- 1:09:31the previous one. I will say it was very nice.
- 1:09:34I was backing Tanaka too because I found Tanaka
- 1:09:37more interesting. Nah, Ioka's my boy. I will
- 1:09:44admit, I've had a crush on Ioka for fucking 15
- 1:09:48years. It's just like Ioka, I'm glad we got to
- 1:09:53see him peak too against opponents worth it.
- 1:09:57It wasn't just now that he's forgetting the opponents.
- 1:09:59Yeah, yeah. I agree. I think that's the biggest
- 1:10:03win. Too often we see guys, especially from Japan,
- 1:10:07who get their marquee opponents. Far too old
- 1:10:10to really show it. So they were always bums type
- 1:10:15thing instead of they're old. Yeah. But Takuma's
- 1:10:19really good. Like, I don't have anything against
- 1:10:22Takuma. He's gotten shockingly better. He gets
- 1:10:26disrespected because of who his brother is. 100%.
- 1:10:30Well, I disrespected him because of losing to
- 1:10:32Wubali like that. That wasn't a very strong showing.
- 1:10:40The energy was not there that night. But he's
- 1:10:44rebounded very well since then. That was a long
- 1:10:48time ago. I know. But it was very like... That
- 1:10:53was the put up or shut up moment for him at the
- 1:10:56time. For being on par with his brother. And
- 1:11:01Ubali stole that fight just on energy, really.
- 1:11:05Yeah, Takuma is a little slower. Yeah. Like a
- 1:11:10slow starter. He has more timing base, too. Yeah.
- 1:11:15So, it's just... I'm glad he's really coming
- 1:11:19to his own, and he's playing to his own strengths
- 1:11:21instead of trying to live up to, frankly, something
- 1:11:25impossible. Yeah, yeah. I do think Takuma doesn't
- 1:11:30get enough respect entirely because he's not
- 1:11:33Naoya. Yeah. The fight you were thinking of was
- 1:11:42Brian Mercado versus Ryosuke Nishida. Yes, Nishida.
- 1:11:48That's the one that we watched on ESPN. When
- 1:11:50the referee stopped the fight and they're like,
- 1:11:53I have no idea what the referee's saying because
- 1:11:55I don't speak Japanese and they start laughing
- 1:11:57a bit. And I'm like, that's just like, it's character.
- 1:12:03yeah that adds to the experience as a viewer
- 1:12:06like if they don't have something good to say
- 1:12:10they say something that makes you like them yeah
- 1:12:13like they're watching it means they're watching
- 1:12:14the fight because they had it pretty so like
- 1:12:17we were typing in chat and they had it pretty
- 1:12:19very similar to how we had it basically yeah
- 1:12:22it was pretty spot on like They're watching the
- 1:12:25fight, which is what matters instead of, oh boy,
- 1:12:28here goes Sergio Mora and Chris Maddox fighting
- 1:12:31for two hours because they're not actually watching.
- 1:12:33I fucking hate that. Like, I mean, imagine how
- 1:12:38good the call would have been with another commentary
- 1:12:41crew on AJ Ruiz instead of Mora's making up his
- 1:12:45own narrative already and then... Pushing at
- 1:12:50the entire fight. The fight interrupted your
- 1:12:53narrative, basically. Yeah. Imagine how cool
- 1:12:57the call would have been on AJ getting smoked
- 1:13:00by that left token going down. Yoshiki Takei
- 1:13:05gets the majority decision. Do we really care
- 1:13:09about this? No, but Takei didn't win. That was
- 1:13:18a bullshit call. Shout out to Kang Wang. Fabulous
- 1:13:23name. Yes. That's a good name. It comes off the
- 1:13:28tongue really easy. The Kang Wang. All right.
- 1:13:34But this was a bullshit fight to have as the
- 1:13:36co -main. Terrible card making. Realistically,
- 1:13:40just swap this fight with Sasaki. 100%. Like,
- 1:13:44that's it. That's the change you make, right?
- 1:13:47Yeah. 100%. And main event, Naoya Inoue gets
- 1:13:54the unanimous decision over Junto Nakatani. Oh,
- 1:14:00man. I'm not mad that Junto lost. I'm mad that
- 1:14:04he lost like that. Lost like what? Like a certain
- 1:14:11Ukrainian ballerina. like i like i i just hate
- 1:14:16it i hate it when like listen i'll give you like
- 1:14:20two or three rounds of grace with the whole like
- 1:14:22feeling out measuring your opponent downloading
- 1:14:25whatever whatever you want to call it but when
- 1:14:28we're hitting round five and you're still measuring
- 1:14:31and downloading i'm like no yeah clearly like
- 1:14:36naoya clearly has not fallen for the fact that
- 1:14:39you're like especially because he didn't even
- 1:14:40try like i expected junto to like Yes, he's going
- 1:14:44to set a trap for Naoya, but he's still going
- 1:14:47to set it. He's not going to be like... Please,
- 1:14:51sir, step into my trap. Yeah, he's not holding
- 1:14:54a bear trap out, being like, please stick your
- 1:14:57head in this, or I'm going to kill myself. Like,
- 1:15:00I'm going to be real. The later rounds, classic.
- 1:15:04Like, both guys showed... Amazing heart. And
- 1:15:08there is proof there that Junto, had he applied
- 1:15:12himself early in the fight, probably could have
- 1:15:15made it work. Maybe. And that 11th round was
- 1:15:20fantastic from Inoue, showing that, you know
- 1:15:22what, maybe Junto gets put out the fucking pasture.
- 1:15:26So, Josh, I want to ask you specifically. There
- 1:15:32are reports that in a way broke Junto's orbital
- 1:15:36underneath his eye in the 11th. They think it's
- 1:15:40an uppercut from the 11th. What are your feelings
- 1:15:43on this? The cope is that it's the headbutt.
- 1:15:46The headbutt was above the eye. Let me know that's
- 1:15:52the cope. The cope is fucking stupid. The cope
- 1:15:56is, you know who's fucking, Juto's fucking stupid.
- 1:15:59Like, what kind of game plan is, let me scratch
- 1:16:01my balls for six rounds and hope Inoue doesn't
- 1:16:05use his skill set to steal those rounds. Like,
- 1:16:10it's not like Inoue's going to punch himself
- 1:16:11out either. No, Inoue had perfect distance control
- 1:16:16at the start of the fight. Yeah, and the thing
- 1:16:18is that Nakatani has good distance control. It's
- 1:16:21just that you have to use it. You have to do
- 1:16:24something with it. you have to show some aggression
- 1:16:27because i will say the like nakatani's like that
- 1:16:31that probing jab that he loops a left hand into
- 1:16:34commonly only ever works when he leads it with
- 1:16:39a very stiff like his stiff jab or like a flicker
- 1:16:43jab that's meant to touch the opponent but if
- 1:16:46he comes out just holding it there no one's gonna
- 1:16:48like No one's stupid enough to walk into that.
- 1:16:52I was going to say, Hernandez, it's different.
- 1:16:54Hernandez's last fight kept walking into it.
- 1:16:56He just didn't give a fuck. That's different.
- 1:16:59But if you watch his fights with Maloney or Nishida,
- 1:17:02the only reason the left hand starts landing
- 1:17:06is because the jab is there. It doesn't even
- 1:17:10have to land. Maloney was doing a pretty good
- 1:17:12job of parrying it until the body shots started
- 1:17:15ripping in. But... um i will say like yeah no
- 1:17:20in a way very clearly the 11th round is proof
- 1:17:23that the fight had nakatani fought it properly
- 1:17:27would have been like this could have been it
- 1:17:30could have been a crazy action war if nakatani
- 1:17:35wanted to fight it the right way but in a way
- 1:17:38he's not stupid he's not gonna start a war with
- 1:17:41nakatani Nakatani has to engage that and then
- 1:17:44set A, B, C, and D traps while keeping up. And
- 1:17:51that's how it worked in the later third of the
- 1:17:54fight. But those last four rounds, I think, in
- 1:18:00a way, still won the last two. Yeah. Because,
- 1:18:03like, Nakatani... I just... Genuinely, I feel
- 1:18:08like all the tension... Because the thing is
- 1:18:11that there's one thing of, like, when you work
- 1:18:13yourself into a gear, like, you're in one gear
- 1:18:17and you slowly ramp it up, like what basically
- 1:18:20happened with Inoue, where... Yeah. Versus you're
- 1:18:23at zero. You going zero to 60 takes a lot off,
- 1:18:26a lot more off you than slowly getting... Yeah,
- 1:18:29Junto wasn't necessarily ready for 50 ,000 fans,
- 1:18:35I think. No. But even like that volume in the
- 1:18:39first half of the fight, like, yeah, he kicked
- 1:18:43it up to 11, but it's just that leap. Your body
- 1:18:47isn't ready to explode like that when you've
- 1:18:50been so passive. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The way Inoue
- 1:18:53naturally moves and throws his jab, the choice
- 1:18:57was to not commit to the second attack, but the
- 1:19:02first attack is still there. So when it's time
- 1:19:05to commit to that second and third attack, when
- 1:19:07the fight actually picks up, he's ready. His
- 1:19:09body's ready. Like, I don't know. I feel like,
- 1:19:14I thought Junto would be a little more aggressive,
- 1:19:18and that's, you would have seen more of what
- 1:19:21you saw later. I kind of... I don't know if I
- 1:19:26said it on the podcast, but I kind of called
- 1:19:28this, I think, Leo. I said Junto wasn't ready
- 1:19:31for the big crowd. Yeah, you did. Yeah. I'm happy
- 1:19:36to eat my words here because, A, there's a good
- 1:19:41chance we get a rematch ever because the fight
- 1:19:44was way too financially successful. Oh, yeah.
- 1:19:48And everyone will watch a rematch because there's
- 1:19:51those questions. And you know what the undercard
- 1:19:53can be? Just give me 40 rounds of Jin Sasaki
- 1:19:56and Sora Tanaka. Exactly. 100%. But I'm just
- 1:19:59saying, you know, that fight, out of many fights
- 1:20:05that I've seen, that fight would have benefited
- 1:20:07from being 15 rounds. 100%. Oh, my goodness.
- 1:20:11That was 15. I will say that Inoue's best round
- 1:20:16was the 11th. He still had a good round in the
- 1:20:1812th. But Nakatani is still making him visibly
- 1:20:22uncomfortable at moments in ways that like Donair
- 1:20:25broke half his face and still could not force
- 1:20:29that level of discomfort. So very much like both
- 1:20:33guys are being pushed to their like plan B's
- 1:20:37C's with three more rounds. That was something
- 1:20:43that I had noticed as well was that even in the
- 1:20:46latter rounds, especially in the latter rounds,
- 1:20:48was when Nakatani was starting to make Inoue
- 1:20:56uncomfortable. And I think that really feeds
- 1:20:59into what you were saying about if it had been
- 1:21:0315 rounds, then Nakatani might have been able
- 1:21:07to work out something a little differently. Yeah,
- 1:21:10because it's that... It's just the, like, Nakatani
- 1:21:14works really well with, like, active information.
- 1:21:18Because even the dog fights he finds himself
- 1:21:22in, you can see the left hand land with increasing
- 1:21:26ease. Just to be, like, you know, he's very,
- 1:21:30he feels, he's a very feel, feeling fighter.
- 1:21:34Vibes. And by not fighting those first six rounds.
- 1:21:38Like, you'd have no chance to absorb anything.
- 1:21:42And I'm not saying he wins the fight with those
- 1:21:44last three rounds. The fight was gone with how
- 1:21:49it went. But I'm just saying there's a lot more,
- 1:21:52like, especially if you need a stoppage, because
- 1:21:55he needs a stoppage, there's just a lot more
- 1:21:57chance for a feeling fighter to pull it out than,
- 1:22:01like, anything else. And it gives Inoue, like,
- 1:22:05they both would have... It would have gotten
- 1:22:08better. I still feel like Inoue was really having
- 1:22:16trouble breaking the distance. He was having
- 1:22:20trouble with the length of Nakatani. But Inoue
- 1:22:24adapts very well in a fight. I don't know if
- 1:22:28in 15 rounds Nakatani would have landed that
- 1:22:31big punch, but also... I don't think Nakatani
- 1:22:35is as one -hit quitter as everyone thinks. Everyone
- 1:22:41forgets that all those fights he's won by knockout
- 1:22:46have been beatdowns. Not like iconic beatdowns,
- 1:22:53but he's put a lot of damage on before he knocks
- 1:22:57people out. Which is what was missing. Agreed.
- 1:23:02I do agree. Everyone's like Inoue's chinny to
- 1:23:06left handers, but Inoue took a couple pretty
- 1:23:09solid left hands. Inoue has enough chin that
- 1:23:15Nakatani needs an accumulation to get the knockout.
- 1:23:19And perhaps more importantly, Inoue has experience
- 1:23:24with this exact type of left hand coming at him.
- 1:23:29Yeah. Because if you notice, he didn't make,
- 1:23:31because it, like, let's be real, like, the huge,
- 1:23:34the two huge left hands, the three huge left
- 1:23:37hands, because I count Donairs as well, have
- 1:23:41come from positioning mistakes where he basically
- 1:23:44overextends on his first attack, and instead
- 1:23:48of, like, angling out, he kind of laterally shifts.
- 1:23:53Yeah. And doesn't, he doesn't go for a second
- 1:23:56attack, but he doesn't get out of there. He didn't
- 1:23:59do that. He got out of there, or he started a
- 1:24:02second attack on Nakatani. In a way, he has been
- 1:24:07adapting. I don't know if you call it defense,
- 1:24:11but he's been adapting his offense to make up
- 1:24:14for his defense. It's a boxing IQ adjustment,
- 1:24:17fundamentally. Yeah, he's getting better. There's
- 1:24:23some really fun gifs. That are floating around
- 1:24:27of, in a way, actually just dodging a bunch of
- 1:24:30Nakatani punches. Yeah, the huge, the huge, the
- 1:24:32one where he ducks out of the way of the uppercut.
- 1:24:35Yeah. Is, like, that one's art, because that
- 1:24:39uppercut, you could, because I'm like, Nakatani
- 1:24:41doesn't have incompetent trainers. Like, that
- 1:24:44uppercut was super, just the way, just the way
- 1:24:48he threw it, like, because the fact that it came
- 1:24:50at the tail end of... Like, the combo was meant
- 1:24:56to be, like, to have Inoue there and have him
- 1:24:59start framing out. So that way the uppercut catches
- 1:25:03him when he's framing out. But he didn't frame
- 1:25:05out. No, he just got out of there. Yeah. And
- 1:25:09the thing is that Nakatani adjusts the uppercut
- 1:25:13halfway through its trajectory to try and catch
- 1:25:15him getting out. And Inoue just takes the step
- 1:25:18to the side to just make it win. It's just, it's
- 1:25:22such a beautiful clip. It's beautiful. It's such
- 1:25:24a beautiful clip, just because, like, you can
- 1:25:27tell, like, first, Inoue fixed that mistake.
- 1:25:31Nakatani adjusts to the mistake, to the fix.
- 1:25:36And, like, let's be real. Any other fighter,
- 1:25:38like, let's say Bam's trying to pivot out of
- 1:25:41it. Bam can't make that adjustment mid -pivot.
- 1:25:46He's getting... Yeah, I really like Bam, but
- 1:25:49he's not as adjustable as Inoue. No, but like,
- 1:25:53just I'm saying, just because Inoue's movement
- 1:25:55is very, like, you can break it down into small
- 1:25:59motions. So that way, Inoue's slipping out, and
- 1:26:04then, okay, mid -slip, you can add in that step
- 1:26:07to the side that caused that uppercut to miss.
- 1:26:10Bam, love him. Very flashy guy. The pivots are
- 1:26:14big movements. So, like, let's be real. If he
- 1:26:18pivots out of the way of that initial one, the
- 1:26:20adjusted trajectory catches him at the end of
- 1:26:22the pivot. Yeah. And that uppercut, like, I know
- 1:26:27he's an accumulation guy. But... A flush, looping
- 1:26:33left uppercut in, like, an athletic, crouched,
- 1:26:37like, exploding upward stance from Nakatani is
- 1:26:41going to kill you. Yeah, that's light, though.
- 1:26:45I think Inoue adjusted really well during the
- 1:26:49fight. But I would like to see a rematch because
- 1:26:53I think Junto would be less starstruck, for lack
- 1:26:59of a better word. He would be less nervous. It
- 1:27:05would be more fireworks early. But I still lean
- 1:27:10Inoue. I think Inoue adjusts. faster and Nakatani
- 1:27:16gets frustrated I have to back my guy obviously
- 1:27:20but very clearly I think more than anything I
- 1:27:25just want to see it like if I can just see those
- 1:27:28four rounds but for 12 or 15 or however many
- 1:27:32yeah I'm all on board because listen I'm not
- 1:27:36gonna say one is gonna knock the other out but
- 1:27:39I'm gonna say like if that fight starts how it
- 1:27:42ended By the time we get to the 12th, it's not
- 1:27:44even about who... It's about who has that, like...
- 1:27:48Like, has it left in them to keep executing on
- 1:27:53this high level. And I'm a fangirl, but I think
- 1:27:57Inoue has more dog. Personally. I think Nakatani's
- 1:28:02frustration is part of his dog, though. Like...
- 1:28:06Nah, but just, like... Junto hasn't fought through
- 1:28:12being hurt. No. But the thing is that I will
- 1:28:16say, like, man, he's felt Inoue already. And
- 1:28:21he got his fucking eye broken. I know. It's going
- 1:28:24to be one of those, like, Larry Holmes... Fuck.
- 1:28:30Not Shavers. It was... Oh, I was fucking... I
- 1:28:36have the name in the tip of my tongue. His first
- 1:28:4115 -rounder. Let me find it for his first title.
- 1:28:46Sorry, this is heavyweights. I know nothing.
- 1:28:49Heavyweights. It was Ken Norton. Oh, yeah, yeah,
- 1:28:53yeah. Where, like, you're still boxing at the
- 1:28:55highest level at the end of the fight, but it's
- 1:28:59not dog. It's more who has that. Like, who could
- 1:29:04squeeze out what's left of that, like, ability
- 1:29:07to accelerate? Yeah, yeah. I still lean Inoue.
- 1:29:12I lean Inoue with, like, more ability than Nakatani.
- 1:29:16But I'm a fangirl. I'm biased. I agree. I'm biased
- 1:29:19towards Nakatani, but I also... Part of being
- 1:29:23a fan here is that I... We've seen that Inoue...
- 1:29:26We've seen the extent of Inoue's ability to,
- 1:29:30like... make it to the end in a total war and
- 1:29:35in a way has it i know what if nakatani has what
- 1:29:39if right like the if like but we don't know but
- 1:29:43we don't know but that's what makes it fun that's
- 1:29:45the beauty of the fight what i agree what if
- 1:29:48nakatani like we hit round 10 in just the same
- 1:29:52like this has been a beautiful brutal fight and
- 1:29:55nakatani just takes that leap like holmes did
- 1:30:01It would be cool, but I haven't seen that. I
- 1:30:05know, but it was the same dynamic. Holmes was
- 1:30:07a pretty fresh, that -boy -nice prospect, and
- 1:30:11Norton was the guy who pushed everyone to their
- 1:30:15limits. That was supposed to be his, finally
- 1:30:19Ali retired, I'm getting my title. Yeah. No,
- 1:30:23I would 100 % watch a rematch and I think it
- 1:30:26would be more fun. I've heard a lot of people
- 1:30:29talking shit that this wasn't what it was built
- 1:30:32up to be. But honestly, this was what I expected.
- 1:30:37Maybe because I know... I expected Nakatani to
- 1:30:39be a bit more, but it happens. But like, I've
- 1:30:44watched both these fighters and I was like, Nakatani's
- 1:30:48gonna start... slow and be a little awestruck
- 1:30:52by the venue and all the people and in a way
- 1:30:57is gonna have trouble with the distance but adjust
- 1:31:00and i really feel like i kind of i called what
- 1:31:06this fight would be and i was not trying to dampen
- 1:31:11it because i want everyone to be very excited
- 1:31:13about small fighters and about But when you know,
- 1:31:17you know, right? Yeah, so I didn't want to tell
- 1:31:20anyone, like, don't get too excited. I want people
- 1:31:23to be excited. But I kind of knew this wasn't
- 1:31:26going to be the fight of the year. Like, I knew
- 1:31:30that going in. One thing I want to note about
- 1:31:34Nakatani that will be more present in the next
- 1:31:37fight because he'll get started earlier and his
- 1:31:40legs won't be there. for the stretch, is his
- 1:31:45distance changed. A lot of those short shots
- 1:31:48he lands are because of variances in how he stands
- 1:31:52and places his legs. A lot of Inoue's... Inoue
- 1:31:58only... Because of the moment and because of
- 1:32:01those first six rounds basically not doing shit
- 1:32:05to warm him up, he basically got Nakatani from
- 1:32:08a very upright distance. Yeah. I can see that.
- 1:32:13I know what you're saying. Like, it's just...
- 1:32:16Like, a lot of the... Like, Nakatani was pretty
- 1:32:18rigid and only shifted coming forward. But I
- 1:32:22think that's the nervousness. That is, yeah.
- 1:32:25Because the upper... Like, I think... But I think
- 1:32:27Inoue also has it in him to adjust to the full
- 1:32:30range of Nakatani's warped distance from that
- 1:32:34clip with the uppercut. Because Nakatani, the
- 1:32:37adjustment completely shifted where the connection...
- 1:32:41Like, it... So, again, it's a beautiful matchup
- 1:32:46for the purists that in a rematch will be fun
- 1:32:48for casuals too. Yeah, I can agree with that.
- 1:32:53100%. I'm so willing to eat my words on Inoue
- 1:32:57winning and being better here if it's a fight
- 1:33:00this beautiful. I just think Nakatani gets frustrated
- 1:33:05when people don't get knocked out. Like, if he's
- 1:33:09not landing and he's not having success, Nakatani
- 1:33:12gets in his own head. But I like that trait,
- 1:33:17though, because it makes... I like that trait.
- 1:33:20It's a very healthy trait in me, to me personally,
- 1:33:26that, like, he's not complacent with... No, he's
- 1:33:30not, but I think he gets frustrated and it shows
- 1:33:34in his boxing. He gets frustrated and he starts...
- 1:33:38Not dirty, but he gets... Yeah. He starts wrestling.
- 1:33:44But he doesn't get stupid. He doesn't get stupid.
- 1:33:46No, he doesn't get stupid. But you can see...
- 1:33:48He just stops boxing at range. You see the...
- 1:33:50You can see he gets like, this isn't working
- 1:33:54and I don't understand why and it makes me angry.
- 1:33:58I feel like, and this could be a personality
- 1:34:00thing too from a long time ago too, where like...
- 1:34:04He probably had it trained out of him and just
- 1:34:07reverts rather than... I can agree with that.
- 1:34:12Most people I see online treat it like a progression
- 1:34:16where like, you know, some fighters... No. No,
- 1:34:20this is a reversion. He suppresses it when things
- 1:34:25are going well, but when things are not going
- 1:34:28well, his true personality comes out. It's almost
- 1:34:32like he has tunnel vision, because the offense
- 1:34:34is still flourishing and creative, and it's different,
- 1:34:39but just defensively, he just does not see punches
- 1:34:42coming from outside of his direct in front of
- 1:34:47him. He's going to go through you, and it doesn't
- 1:34:50matter. And I really like that. Because a lot
- 1:34:52of Inoue's opponents kind of shrink away from
- 1:34:56the dogfight instead of leaping into it. He doesn't
- 1:35:03shrink away, but I just think it clouds his adjustment.
- 1:35:09If Inoue was a different kind of fighter, he'd
- 1:35:13totally just... Yeah. If it was a Shakur Stevenson,
- 1:35:18but smaller. He would just move out of it. But
- 1:35:23no, Nakatani doesn't do that. He gets more like,
- 1:35:26not street fighty because he's not dirty, but
- 1:35:31he moves into the fight. Yeah, and Inoue responds
- 1:35:36so well to it because he doesn't... If Inoue
- 1:35:39just wanted to win and win clearly, like you
- 1:35:42just... He would have boxed him, but he didn't.
- 1:35:45Inoue will always get drawn into a dogfight,
- 1:35:48which is part of why I like him. It's a good
- 1:35:51matchup. It's not the smartest, but it's entertaining.
- 1:35:56For that reason, I think both guys beat Bam,
- 1:36:00though, because I don't think... Bam is a wonderful
- 1:36:04fighter at distance, but if you notice, he's
- 1:36:08an in -and -out guy. Yeah, if you can crowd him.
- 1:36:14Yeah, he meets guys at the singular point. So
- 1:36:17Inoue would crowd him, and Nakatani would just
- 1:36:20meet him at the singular point. Yeah. But my
- 1:36:24point is, because we should probably move on
- 1:36:26to the actual terrifying American card. Yeah,
- 1:36:30sorry, Leo. Don't even dare stick this on Patreon.
- 1:36:37We've been doing three hours of podcasts now.
- 1:36:40Yeah, no, I was just enjoying the conversation.
- 1:36:44it's good it's just it was like no it was fucking
- 1:36:47fantastic you guys were like explaining the fight
- 1:36:50a lot better than i could have so like if i if
- 1:36:54i could legally like do one of the fight breakdowns
- 1:36:58because like all those guys are sponsored by
- 1:37:00the zone i would because it'd be fun but this
- 1:37:03is this is my compromise it's more content it
- 1:37:06would be patreon time though um what i could
- 1:37:11okay um i'll save this comment for after the
- 1:37:13podcast all right let's roll on let's go on we
- 1:37:17still have another major fight to get to we can
- 1:37:20skip we could skip the top tier one i'm yeah
- 1:37:23i okay so just really quickly sam noakes he got
- 1:37:27a stoppage in two over benito sanchez remember
- 1:37:31shinada we were talking about benito the like
- 1:37:3417 and fucking five million Mexican fighter that
- 1:37:39was getting brought in by the Brits. The Brits
- 1:37:44were... Mexicans aren't so scary. He's now 17
- 1:37:47and 5 million and 1. Another loss. Stoppage in
- 1:37:532. PBC. This was on DAZN and Prime. I had the
- 1:38:00DAZN commentary. Valley gave me shit like, why
- 1:38:05would you get the DAZN one? Because I got DAZN
- 1:38:09Ultimate. I don't know, man. Because you paid.
- 1:38:11I already paid for it. The rest of us also paid,
- 1:38:14but for different... In different ways. In different
- 1:38:17ways, yeah. Don't worry. We still support this
- 1:38:20sport legally. Of course. Don't we all? The first
- 1:38:25one that I had a question mark about was Oscar
- 1:38:28Duarte gets the split decision over Angel Fierro?
- 1:38:33I'm not so sure about what I saw. I'm not so
- 1:38:36sure he won that one. I don't think so. That
- 1:38:38was a draw. At best for Oscar. That was a draw.
- 1:38:43I will say that, like, a lot of the early rounds
- 1:38:48people gave Fiyero are just, like, it's not convincing.
- 1:38:51You think they just gave it on activity? Yeah,
- 1:38:55like, a lot of... Not on clean work. Not on clean
- 1:38:57work. Because I will say Duarte, like, until
- 1:38:59Duarte got, like, fucked in the seventh, sixth
- 1:39:02or seventh, Yeah. Like, Duarte was pretty one
- 1:39:06-way, just by the fact that, like, they're both
- 1:39:09pretty close -up fighters, and Fiera was always
- 1:39:12the one backing up from exchanges. True. True
- 1:39:16point. Like, if you use that as your measuring
- 1:39:17stick, because they're both, like, they're not
- 1:39:20fighters. They're not complicated fighters that
- 1:39:23you need to actually, like... hop in the slow
- 1:39:26-mo and analyze the footage with you don't need
- 1:39:29to have like 45 minutes of conversation about
- 1:39:32their fight literally like they're gonna collide
- 1:39:35and whoever backs up lost the exchange and that
- 1:39:37was fiero good point so i will i will say the
- 1:39:42draw was justified a duarte win was absolutely
- 1:39:46not because jesus christ he got hammered in the
- 1:39:50second half yeah yeah Speaking of guys... People
- 1:39:57should watch it. Yeah. Oh, it was fun. It was
- 1:40:01fun. Speaking of guys who got hammered, Armando
- 1:40:05Resendiz loses his WBA super middleweight title
- 1:40:09to Jaime Munguia in a... It was a sweep? Basically
- 1:40:15a sweep, but I just... I mean, Munguia deserved
- 1:40:19it. I'm not going to argue with the cards. They're
- 1:40:22wide. But... I was disappointed in Resendiz.
- 1:40:28Very. If we're talking about the cards, I don't
- 1:40:31think 118 -110 is that much more satisfying than
- 1:40:35120 -108. Doesn't matter. No. So, I don't care.
- 1:40:42Resendiz looked intimidated. He could not need
- 1:40:48the moment. He looked intimidated by Munguia.
- 1:40:54Which is... Which is fucking sad. What are you
- 1:40:57doing? Like... What are you doing? That's just...
- 1:41:03I mean, Saul had it right last week that I'll
- 1:41:05never trust any victim of Elijah Garcia. Yeah.
- 1:41:09Should've believed him. I just... I was out of
- 1:41:13seething hatred for Munguia. No, 100%. And me
- 1:41:18and Leo talked about this. That, like, you can't
- 1:41:21back somebody... who got sparked by some unknown
- 1:41:26Frenchman and then popped for pads on a unanimous
- 1:41:30decision against said Frenchman. Like, I can't
- 1:41:34trust a guy who went life and death with Gabe
- 1:41:36Rosado and got fucking chin -checked by Spike
- 1:41:41O'Sullivan. Yeah. Life and death with Sergei
- 1:41:45Derevyanchenko in his late 30s. Yeah, like...
- 1:41:50No, Sergei's good, though. Took five rounds to
- 1:41:55take out Kilrain Kelly in 2022. Yeah. I was a
- 1:42:04Munguia fan very early on, but I can't be anymore.
- 1:42:08I just can't. You know what's crazy? This is
- 1:42:12probably going to be the only time I've ever
- 1:42:14seen the Nevada State Athletic Commission save
- 1:42:16someone. Because Golden Boy wanted to cash him
- 1:42:19out in 2018. Against Triple G, right? Yeah. You
- 1:42:24know who they put in instead of? Marta Rosian.
- 1:42:27They put Marta Rosian, who was a 147 guy. Ridiculous.
- 1:42:34Golden Boy was fully on board with, this guy
- 1:42:38sucks, we're cashing him out. Nope. And then
- 1:42:42he basically a fluke win against Sadam Ali. And
- 1:42:46now we're here. I was a Munguia fan, but I have
- 1:42:54thrown him to the side because he's going to
- 1:42:57hold that belt hostage because I'm Yakub. Who's
- 1:43:00Yakub? Yakub Banks. Yeah, he's WBO. This is a
- 1:43:04belt. This was for a belt. WBA. WBA. So he's
- 1:43:09going to hold that shit hostage because Osley's
- 1:43:10is IBF firmly. Yaku Bank is WBO. Tom Zasheraz
- 1:43:16is like fighting for the full title, WBO title.
- 1:43:21And Yaku Bank has a claim there. Then there's
- 1:43:26Martinez is still WBC route. And Mbili Canelo.
- 1:43:32Munguia does not deserve a belt. He doesn't,
- 1:43:35but, like, that's what I'm saying. Like, just
- 1:43:37the Nevada State Athletic Commission being like,
- 1:43:39you can't. No, that was the California state
- 1:43:41that saved him from Triple G. Yeah. Yeah. They
- 1:43:45literally go, literally the, like, you can't
- 1:43:47feed him this blatantly. And now we're here.
- 1:43:52That's literally the only reason we're here with
- 1:43:54Munguia. Poopy. But David Benavidez knocks out.
- 1:44:04Gilberto Ramirez in six. Shanara, your boyfriend
- 1:44:10got his ass kicked. This was not what I wanted
- 1:44:14or expected. I was shocked. I was backing Zerto,
- 1:44:21but I kind of knew he probably would lose. You
- 1:44:23were backing Zerto? For the wrong reasons. I
- 1:44:25was. For the wrong reason. Jesus Christ. Boner
- 1:44:29brain affects women too, apparently, dog. It
- 1:44:32does. 100 % it does. Blood just all out of your
- 1:44:37head. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, Jesus, man. But
- 1:44:40in my defense, I did say I thought it was a long
- 1:44:44shot, but I was going to back him anyways. But
- 1:44:49this was not even close. This was fucking, this
- 1:44:52was a mugging. This was ridiculous. I thought
- 1:44:57Zerto would have enough chin and enough power
- 1:45:03back just because he was at the weight class
- 1:45:06and had been there for a while. I was super fucking
- 1:45:09wrong. And Benavidez bent him over, basically.
- 1:45:12Yeah, yeah. No, this was fucking crazy. Idiots
- 1:45:17online. Yeah, Benavidez goes out, destroys the
- 1:45:20best guy at cruiserweight, and people are being...
- 1:45:25shitheads over one elbow and I'm like, brother.
- 1:45:30They're saying Benavides threw an elbow? Basically,
- 1:45:35you know how Benavides throws his combos past,
- 1:45:37but he brings it all the way back before throwing,
- 1:45:39which is what the terrifying part is. They aren't
- 1:45:42shoe shines. They're just full gas power shots.
- 1:45:48There is a clip of one of them from above where
- 1:45:51he brings it back and it hits Serto in the face.
- 1:45:54Is this the fucking same thing as the Inoue headbutt
- 1:45:58bullshit? Yeah, basically. It's copium. It is
- 1:46:02copium. The thing is that the Inoue headbutt,
- 1:46:04whatever, it's a clash of heads. Blatantly, it's
- 1:46:07a joke cope position. It is a clash of heads,
- 1:46:12but if we're doing clash of heads, Nakatani has
- 1:46:14had so many more than Inoue. If you're blaming
- 1:46:18anyone, blame Nakatani. But... That completely
- 1:46:24flies in the face of the cope position. I don't
- 1:46:32think people think... I have no cope for Zerdo.
- 1:46:35Zerdo just lost. Yeah, I don't think... I just
- 1:46:43don't think people think sometimes when they
- 1:46:45watch highlights on social media. And some people,
- 1:46:50especially because if you don't watch, like,
- 1:46:53live boxing or you've never boxed, you don't
- 1:46:57have, like, it's just an accumulated eye for
- 1:47:00stuff when it's live in front of you. I've never
- 1:47:03boxed, but I'm not an idiot. No, but I'm saying,
- 1:47:09like, watching it live or watching it, like,
- 1:47:11in fast motion, the replay, if you don't know
- 1:47:14what's going on, you go, oh, he elbowed Zerto.
- 1:47:17But realistically, if you know Benavidez doesn't
- 1:47:20shoeshine, he throws everything up. He brings
- 1:47:23it back and throws it again and brings it back
- 1:47:25and throws it again. Full mustard. That's just
- 1:47:29what happens. You watch live boxing or you've
- 1:47:32thrown something with your own mechanics. It
- 1:47:35happens sometimes. Yeah, like accidents happen.
- 1:47:40Especially because I'm like, let's be real. The
- 1:47:43elbow to Zerdo's mouth. whatever, is not change
- 1:47:47the other 40 punches he takes in that sequence.
- 1:47:50That's not why Zerto quit. That was a misspeak,
- 1:47:57but the reason Zerto got knocked out was his
- 1:48:00eye. It's not his mouth. It doesn't matter if
- 1:48:04he got elbowed in the mouth. I'm just going to
- 1:48:10say it happens. I don't care. But I think it's
- 1:48:14the... 40 million other punches that he took
- 1:48:16straight to the dome. I will say, you know what?
- 1:48:20You can say Zerto quit, Zerto got stopped, whatever.
- 1:48:25That's not what I meant. It was just me speaking.
- 1:48:28But I do understand, like, just the way the stoppage
- 1:48:31looked was just he got forced out of the fight.
- 1:48:34He didn't quit. You could almost get mad at the
- 1:48:37fucking, what is this corner doing? Did you hear
- 1:48:40his corner in between some of the rounds the
- 1:48:42PPC feed was showing it? And they're like, all
- 1:48:45right, you got him right where you want him.
- 1:48:47Like, just keep him. They were like, all right,
- 1:48:52so you've got him still throwing at you. Just
- 1:48:54throw in between his punches. And I'm like, guys,
- 1:48:57get the towel ready. That's fucking ridiculous.
- 1:49:01It was during one where, like, Zerto's spitting
- 1:49:04up blood. Zerto's eyes closed here, and the other
- 1:49:07eye looks like Michael Jordan jaundice because
- 1:49:09it's so bloodshot. And they're telling him, okay,
- 1:49:13just throw between his shots. Like, throw in
- 1:49:16the towel. Pull him out. Like, I'm not going
- 1:49:21to get bad at watching a Benavidez fight where
- 1:49:23they don't pull him out. I think you can go back
- 1:49:26to, like, when we were doing the Discord live
- 1:49:28chat for his fight with Caleb Plant. I'm fucking,
- 1:49:31round nine, I'm like, just throw in the towel.
- 1:49:34What's the point of Caleb Plant getting... I
- 1:49:36was saying that about round, like, four. It was
- 1:49:39like, we don't need to see any more of this.
- 1:49:42Yeah, round... Round four, when I saw him land
- 1:49:4460 punches straight with like Zerto, the most
- 1:49:47Zerto did was put his hands up a little tighter.
- 1:49:49Like, nah, I'm done. Yeah. We're good. We've
- 1:49:52seen enough. This was a very early, my guy is
- 1:49:57losing. It's full credit to Benavidez because
- 1:50:01let's be real, like even like Prime Better BF
- 1:50:05was he's going to knock you out. But this is
- 1:50:09like. Jesus Christ. He's going to damage you.
- 1:50:13He's going to hurt you. This is Subrio Matias,
- 1:50:15but you know Subrio Matias could only do it against
- 1:50:18fringe world class? Yeah. This is just like,
- 1:50:22Jesus Christ. That's the only thing I have to
- 1:50:27say. I should have had an article up by now.
- 1:50:30I'm just trying to find the words on like, this
- 1:50:33is a very scary offensive power. And the worst
- 1:50:37part is he's gotten better at cutting off the
- 1:50:40ring with time. Because I'm not going to say
- 1:50:44Zerto's good at escaping, but I'm saying if a
- 1:50:47fighter is trying their best to run away from
- 1:50:50you, usually they do. And you've noticed it since
- 1:50:56the Andrade fight. Because, yeah, Andrade started
- 1:51:00on his front foot, but Andrade's also great at
- 1:51:02getting away from you. And it's just taking less
- 1:51:07and less time for David to catch up to guys every
- 1:51:09time, and that's scary. Yeah, no. I didn't expect
- 1:51:14it to go like this. I honestly, if I'm being
- 1:51:20unbiased, which is very hard for me, Benavidez
- 1:51:23has faster hands. I didn't know if his power
- 1:51:28would come up as well, because Zerto has a great
- 1:51:30chin. But... I didn't expect it to go like this.
- 1:51:36No, it's just, it's terrifying offensive power.
- 1:51:40Yeah. Like, I used to... Yeah. I used to have
- 1:51:46Virgil as my, like, top offense in the sport
- 1:51:51because, let's be real, Virgil was a very creative,
- 1:51:54very destructive offense. But after... benavidez
- 1:52:00doing that it's just like one thing is like to
- 1:52:04move benavidez up on my pound for pound 100 yeah
- 1:52:07like one thing is you are like like recognizing
- 1:52:11like this is a very creative flourishing offense
- 1:52:14that is able to find ways to a guy and the other
- 1:52:18is this is scary he's breaking guys yeah And
- 1:52:23it's not just he's breaking bums or he's breaking,
- 1:52:26like, he moved up 40 pounds to break a guy where
- 1:52:32you joke. A, he's still a weight terrorist at
- 1:52:37cruiserweight. He comes in 230 on 5K. He's still
- 1:52:42a weight terrorist. Zerto is one of the biggest
- 1:52:45weight terrorists, period. But also, like, we've
- 1:52:49watched... You could break a fucking 2x4 over
- 1:52:52Zerto's head and he wouldn't flinch. I'm not
- 1:52:56even saying, like, be of all. I'm saying, like,
- 1:52:57at Cruiserweight, like, Joe Smith Jr., he was
- 1:53:01slow enough for Joe Smith Jr. to land home run
- 1:53:04shots on him. But he didn't really even flinch
- 1:53:08against Joe Smith Jr. And it's not even, like,
- 1:53:11even when he was drained at 168, like, Andres
- 1:53:14Fonfara is a, like... Tough SOB. Yeah. No, I
- 1:53:21did not expect this to go like this. No. And
- 1:53:25people who say, like, I expected Benavides to
- 1:53:28show the level of boxing acumen. But that's not
- 1:53:32what he showed. He just showed his fucking...
- 1:53:34No, it's just a demolition job. Yeah. I agree.
- 1:53:38Demolition job is a good way to put it. Jesus.
- 1:53:44Not like this. I made fun of Benavidez for stealing
- 1:53:49Inouye's nickname. Yeah. But Benavidez does actually
- 1:53:56deserve El Monstro. I really like Bandera Roja.
- 1:54:00I like that one. I do too. I really like that.
- 1:54:05I've said this on the podcast. It's a much better
- 1:54:08nickname. But I guess El Monstro is more global.
- 1:54:17yeah it's better for the marketing but like bandera
- 1:54:19roja is so like it's like just so it's so evocative
- 1:54:24it's so tough it's so evocative of like what
- 1:54:29he does yeah no i like it if you want to get
- 1:54:33if you want to get all solipsistic with it and
- 1:54:35like you know make it in the more than it is
- 1:54:38like it is basically you're painting like you're
- 1:54:40painting a fucking white flag red with it yeah
- 1:54:44No, I like it better. I wish he hadn't changed.
- 1:54:49That being said, I just love that, like, you
- 1:54:52know, he's friends with Zerto, dude. Like, this
- 1:54:55is what he does to his friends. He's actual,
- 1:54:58like, he's been a part of Zerto's camp since
- 1:55:00he was a teenager. Like, back when he sparred
- 1:55:02with Golovkin and everything. Yeah. This is a
- 1:55:04friend of his. And I'm just looking, like, what,
- 1:55:08like, the fucking little, like, he does whenever
- 1:55:11a guy is down. It's just like, oh my God, he
- 1:55:15didn't want to stop. He's interrupted by the
- 1:55:17guy going down. No, this was a scary performance
- 1:55:23by Benavidez in the best way possible. No, we
- 1:55:27talked about wanting to see him go up, but no,
- 1:55:31I want to see if anybody his size has anything
- 1:55:35for him. I think Betterbiev has one of the better
- 1:55:41shots. No, I don't see it. He's got a solid chin.
- 1:55:45Beterbiev has a chin, has good recovery, and
- 1:55:52at least power to make Benavidez aware. Because
- 1:55:55I will say, if there's anything Zerto was lacking
- 1:55:57in, it was the power department to really make
- 1:56:01Benavidez honest. I don't think that Beterbiev
- 1:56:07has the power to make... No, it's just, like,
- 1:56:12I think he's the closest to doing so. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:56:15I agree. Also, I think it goes similar. Because
- 1:56:19if you draw Bivol's, like, in -ring patterns,
- 1:56:22everyone says, oh, Bivol's just going to box
- 1:56:25him in and out, but I'm like, Benavidez cuts
- 1:56:27off the ring very, very well. Like, you, like,
- 1:56:33at the point he fought Caleb Plant, Caleb Plant
- 1:56:35still had eight or nine good rounds in him, and
- 1:56:38he made it four good rounds. Yeah. Because I
- 1:56:42will say, like, again, Caleb Plant and, like,
- 1:56:45prime Caleb Plant will look like the best boxer,
- 1:56:48the best moving boxer who ever lived for eight
- 1:56:51to nine rounds. And then he'll look like shit.
- 1:56:56Benavidez made it four rounds just on cutting
- 1:56:59off the ring and getting to him. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:57:02I don't think anybody beats Benavidez right now
- 1:57:05in his, like, weight. I think it's a little bit
- 1:57:10of a overreaction because we haven't seen the
- 1:57:15full potential of like... Like, Osley's is really
- 1:57:18big. For 168, it really does seem like his end
- 1:57:22point is 175. But like... Maybe. This is all...
- 1:57:30But can Osley's take that kind of power? It's
- 1:57:35an intriguing fight. I'm not saying. I think
- 1:57:38Osley's can land the one shot in between. Maybe.
- 1:57:43Which is, if you've noticed, it's just what is
- 1:57:46needed because Benavidez, once he's on, he'll
- 1:57:48cut off the ring to get to you. But once he's
- 1:57:51on you, he's very like, you saw how he got caught
- 1:57:54by a Gavriel with the singular jab and it just,
- 1:57:56he's off balance. And that was a desperation
- 1:58:00jab and not something with some mustard on it.
- 1:58:04Yeah, I might be overreacting. It's a bit of
- 1:58:07an overreaction because he still has clear holes.
- 1:58:11But the flaws make him more enticing. Because
- 1:58:15everybody is... Let's be real. If you look at
- 1:58:19Zerto's corner, that was the plan too. Catch
- 1:58:22him while he's throwing. But Zerto's hands were
- 1:58:25just too slow. No, he's made of cement. But I'm
- 1:58:27saying, like, better BF has the patience and
- 1:58:31the, like... Peter BF can get it from point A
- 1:58:34to point B. It's just whether the punishment
- 1:58:37piles up. It's not like Zerto who just completely
- 1:58:41couldn't. Yeah. Yeah. Osley's can. It's just
- 1:58:47whether he wants to. And if he can take the return
- 1:58:53fire. I don't know if we've seen Osley's checked
- 1:58:57with real power. No. But he's also like... But
- 1:59:02it's, that's, again, we're grasping at straws
- 1:59:06that the guys right now were looking at the future.
- 1:59:09Yeah. Because you're missing a guy who, like,
- 1:59:12they're missing a guy at 175 who can really get
- 1:59:16you between shots. Like, an all -time matchup
- 1:59:20for Benavidez right now would be someone like
- 1:59:22Antonio Tarver or James Toney. Yeah. Or, like,
- 1:59:27guys who really can just, they can... get the
- 1:59:31one shot out of you, and then they can work.
- 1:59:34Take the punishment, but return at the right
- 1:59:38time. Like, I will say, Tony's a wizard in that
- 1:59:41sense, and Tarver just has that set of balls
- 1:59:46to be able to do it. But no, this was a scary
- 1:59:51performance from Benavidez. I mean, if we're
- 1:59:57going further back in terms of all -time matchups,
- 2:00:00I would have loved to see Matthew Saad Mohammed
- 2:00:02or something, too. But it's like... I mean, 175
- 2:00:07is my favorite weight class, so... We have got
- 2:00:13to keep rolling. We don't have much left. We
- 2:00:17have the previews, right? Just the previews,
- 2:00:19but... Never mind, we have an important preview
- 2:00:21here. I've seen it. Do we? Yes, the British one.
- 2:00:27All right. Let me get some notes in here. There

- 2:04:00We owe those simple pleasures to the hardest

- 2:05:27Previews. We are light, but... First thing, the
- 2:05:34German ARD. That's the promotion. I still don't
- 2:05:40know how to watch this one yet, but keep it locked.
- 2:05:42We'll let you know. In Mannheim, Germany. Karen
- 2:05:48Trikadzian versus Patti Donovan. So that's nice.
- 2:05:55This might be fun. Let me check. I'm pretty sure
- 2:05:58this is the IBF. Yeah, it's an IVF Eliminator.
- 2:06:02No, it's Crocker. An IVF Eliminator, right. Sorry,
- 2:06:04I wasn't sure if it was Crocker or Donovan who
- 2:06:06won that fight. My bad. Karen should own this
- 2:06:11guy. Karen's a lot better. Karen's a lot better
- 2:06:14than people give him credit for. He was able
- 2:06:17to hang with Boots. That says a lot. This fight
- 2:06:22is just not going to be worth watching because
- 2:06:24Karen is incredibly, incredibly negative. He
- 2:06:27is... Literally the example of a negative fighter
- 2:06:29I use when discussing the concept of a guy who
- 2:06:35you just can't get out of there. I'm just hoping
- 2:06:40that Karen pulls it off because it makes boots
- 2:06:44look better. Boots agenda must continue. Saturday,
- 2:06:52May 16th, Queensbury on DAZN. What do we got
- 2:06:57here? Moving up the bill, we got a kitty in the
- 2:07:03house. Shoulder cat? Yes, this is Chai. No, she
- 2:07:08just puts her butt on my face. That was Chai.
- 2:07:16Kitties are nice. Moving up the bill, we've got
- 2:07:20Maxie Hughes versus Louis Sylvester. I think
- 2:07:26they're trying to get Maxie Hughes trying to
- 2:07:31take whatever shine they can at this point. Yeah,
- 2:07:36he's kind of done. Who is Louis Sylvester? He's
- 2:07:39British. No, but is he anybody? And he has one
- 2:07:43knockout loss to Sam Noakes. To Sam Noakes. Of
- 2:07:47all people, you're going to lose two. I mean,
- 2:07:51it's not the worst loss you can have. No, but
- 2:07:54it's just that we only care about the main event.
- 2:07:56We care about Piss Jugs. David Piss Jugs Allen
- 2:08:02vs. Phillip Hergevich. This should actually be
- 2:08:06fun. Well, not fun, but like... I don't even
- 2:08:12think that. I'm like a Dave Allen fan. The storyline
- 2:08:17is good. I want... I want Dave Allen to keep
- 2:08:25boxing because as soon as he stops boxing, he
- 2:08:28will die. No, he is a kid now. He stopped. That
- 2:08:33doesn't matter. No, no. Dave Allen goes into
- 2:08:37deep depression as soon as he's out of training
- 2:08:40and his sister has to try and keep him alive.
- 2:08:43And it makes me sad. And I just want Dave Allen
- 2:08:46to do well. I want him to win just one of these
- 2:08:50fights against anyone good. Not good. Against
- 2:08:53anyone. I just want him to win one of these fights.
- 2:08:57Because I want to see what the hell they try
- 2:08:59to justify after it. If he beats Herkovich, he
- 2:09:05probably gets Tyson Fury in July. Well, he's
- 2:09:08been calling for Zhang. That's what I mean. I
- 2:09:13want him to win exactly one of these to see what
- 2:09:16abomination they justify. Do you remember the
- 2:09:20meme, I'm only two fights away from AJ, and it
- 2:09:23turned out the two fights weren't his, it was
- 2:09:25two losses from AJ that would have gotten AJ
- 2:09:28down to that level? That's the type of thing.
- 2:09:30It's either Zhang or Tyson Fury in July if he
- 2:09:34wins this. Tyson Fury does want a warm -up, as
- 2:09:39he calls it. And if he beat back Madoff, it would
- 2:09:45have been him already with Fury. I just... I
- 2:09:50don't know. Dave Allen makes me sad. I want him
- 2:09:55to not be sad. He's the closest we have to, like,
- 2:09:59someone from our Discord server. Shut up. I was
- 2:10:02just saying anyone. He reminds me more of Isaac.
- 2:10:06No, no. Dave Allen is Robbie. His lack of discipline
- 2:10:10has given Isaac. But he's like, he's basically,
- 2:10:14if you just compress the chat room into one person.
- 2:10:17Yeah, yeah, yeah. You get David Allen. I just
- 2:10:20want to cheer for him. No, I know. I've been
- 2:10:23a super fan forever because it's so funny that
- 2:10:25he's just some guy who doesn't train, gets off
- 2:10:28his couch, and makes more money than I'll ever
- 2:10:31see to lose. But not even lose on purpose. People
- 2:10:35keep believing in him and giving him money. His
- 2:10:40life when he's not boxing makes me so sad. I
- 2:10:43want him to keep boxing so he doesn't die. He's
- 2:10:48going to die. Oh, my God. He's going to die no
- 2:10:51matter what. He's going to die, but it's one
- 2:10:55of those things where when, like, people die
- 2:10:57of depression and shit that you don't know. Like,
- 2:11:04they take a lot of damage to the head. They don't
- 2:11:07realize that they're all. I don't even think
- 2:11:09that's Dave Allen's problem. No, because long
- 2:11:13before he even had, like, inklings of CTE, he
- 2:11:16was doing the pissing and jugs. Yeah, he's just
- 2:11:20a very sad man that got some amount of fame and,
- 2:11:26like, success in boxing. But I want to keep that
- 2:11:33rolling because he's just so sad. I just... I
- 2:11:41just think it's funny, and I love fat heavyweights
- 2:11:43who do nothing but punch each other. They don't
- 2:11:46even try to box. Yeah. It always has a place.
- 2:11:51He can beat Filip Hergovich, but... No. I don't
- 2:11:57know if he will. You know who I wanted to fight
- 2:12:00ever? I wanted to fight Big Gug. Nice. That is
- 2:12:05a good matchup. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I wanted him
- 2:12:09to fight Adam Kawanaki back before Kawanaki got
- 2:12:12erased. Oh, Kawanaki would be good. That would
- 2:12:14have been a good shout back then. Right now,
- 2:12:16I want him to fight Big Gug. I don't want him
- 2:12:18to fight like... Like, Hergovic is boring to
- 2:12:21me because Hergovic is boring and Will just like...
- 2:12:24Yeah. No, 100 % for me, David Allen is not the
- 2:12:30fight. it's the outside the ring i feel so bad
- 2:12:36for you actually the first time i ever i think
- 2:12:40i forget who he fought it was before he fought
- 2:12:42like luis ortiz but he showed up and like as
- 2:12:46he was stepping on stage for the way and he just
- 2:12:48starts putting socks in his crotch like the the
- 2:12:51underwear crotch oh for the rhino bit yeah like
- 2:12:55that was the first like that was the first like
- 2:12:57interaction with them and i was in like high
- 2:12:59school so i'm like this is the funniest shit
- 2:13:00i've ever seen and now it's like david allen
- 2:13:05for me is 100 of personality and like yeah me
- 2:13:10wanting him as a person to not die yeah is why
- 2:13:14i cheer for him i think that's a valid reason
- 2:13:18it's valid the point is that um he's getting
- 2:13:21an at everyone ping Yes. Make peace with it.
- 2:13:25Leo, make it happen. I have to make peace with
- 2:13:29this. I'm not the one doing it. Last time it
- 2:13:34happened, you're like, who did it? And everyone
- 2:13:36was like, who do you think? Oh, my God. No one
- 2:13:43even got mad over it. The Discord does, I think,
- 2:13:47a little bit like gatekeep. Even the gens. I'm
- 2:13:51like. There's lots of shit we could degen. The
- 2:13:55degenerate things. It bugs me how little people
- 2:13:58use degens. That one we can abuse. That's the
- 2:14:04point of it. If people don't like it, just get
- 2:14:06rid of it. Dave Allen deserves everyone. Entirely
- 2:14:12so he doesn't die. We'll be sad when he retires.
- 2:14:15Shenandoah will be sad for perhaps the only moral
- 2:14:19reason. And the rest of us will be sad because
- 2:14:22that's one less horrible, horrible, horrible,
- 2:14:26horrible, horrible, horrible heavyweight punching
- 2:14:30another horrible heavyweight on our screen. I
- 2:14:33don't even watch heavyweights. I just feel...
- 2:14:35bad for me that's what i was saying like you
- 2:14:38knowing who dave allen is it's like this guy
- 2:14:40is the worst crossover star in boxing he crosses
- 2:14:46over for the worst reason he's he's like steven
- 2:14:50like he like the way people talk about him from
- 2:14:53like even outside of boxing because i've seen
- 2:14:55some nba twitter guys who know him um is how
- 2:15:00ridiculous is how like japanese boxing fans cheer
- 2:15:03on steven fulton I fucking hate Stephen Fulton.
- 2:15:07It's so funny. Like, Leigh, I showed you when
- 2:15:10I was on Twitter during the, like, Stephen Fulton
- 2:15:13or Shacky Foster fight, and there was a guy named,
- 2:15:16like, KKK Boxing, like, who's a Japanese boxing
- 2:15:19fan, going like... Go on, my son. Like, you got
- 2:15:22this, Fulton. Are you fucking kidding me? It's
- 2:15:27a huge thing. And you just look at his Twitter,
- 2:15:30and it's all racist. Like, this guy's a Japanese
- 2:15:33racist, but he loves Stephen Fulton. Makes Inouye
- 2:15:37look better. Literally, I think that's what it
- 2:15:41is. No, but he'll look at that, and he'll, like,
- 2:15:43one of them, it wasn't the KKK one, one of them
- 2:15:46had a comment about Inouye's skin being too dark.
- 2:15:49And then they like Stephen Fulton. in a way skin
- 2:15:52is too dark the actual skin color stuff here
- 2:15:56is fucking crazy yeah like that's what i'm saying
- 2:15:59like i saw a comment of like in a way skin's
- 2:16:02too dark the guy's a stephen fulton japanese
- 2:16:03stephen fulton fan and that's ioka ioka is the
- 2:16:09dark skin japanese he's whiter than i am and
- 2:16:13i'm white as fuck like No, I know. So that's
- 2:16:16why I'm, like, with Dave Allen, I'm, like, that's
- 2:16:18what Dave Allen fans remind me of. Just, like,
- 2:16:21it's deranged in the best possible way. No, yeah,
- 2:16:25it doesn't make sense, but go with your heart.
- 2:16:29Like, this guy's 6 '3 and has, like, Canelo's
- 2:16:32reach. That's so sad. I don't hide my bias at
- 2:16:40all. My boxing takes are based on my heart, but
- 2:16:44I think the listeners know. We can't take you
- 2:16:51serious, but it's still entertaining. I like
- 2:16:54to think I'm a consistent critic when it comes
- 2:16:57to my serious stuff here in chat. Absolutely
- 2:16:59not. But no, you're consistently just a pessimist.
- 2:17:06Yeah. That's because I'm very dat boi nice, but
- 2:17:10when dat boi is not nice, I can't look past it.
- 2:17:14Dat boi trash. When dat boi is not nice, I can't
- 2:17:17look past it. That's ridiculous. There's many
- 2:17:19levels. I know, and I do objectively analyze
- 2:17:23it, but also my opinion is dat boi nice or dat
- 2:17:27boi trash. Or dat boi entertaining. Dat boi entertaining
- 2:17:34is dat boi nice. Jin Sasaki is like the lowest
- 2:17:37rung of that boy nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh,
- 2:17:43man. We got to roll on. We got one more card.
- 2:17:47Top rank at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
- 2:17:51We have Keon Davis, Calvin Davis, and in the
- 2:17:59main event, Keyshawn Davis. And they're all fighting
- 2:18:03the hero Albright backstage. I was going to say,
- 2:18:07who's getting jumped backstage? Who's getting
- 2:18:09jumped backstage? We do have Brian Norman versus
- 2:18:13Josh Wagner at Welterweight. This might be fun.
- 2:18:19Maybe. Oh, man, I have heard of Josh Wagner.
- 2:18:22That sucks. He's Canadian. Of course you've heard
- 2:18:26of him. He's not great. That's why. He can't
- 2:18:32even make it to, like, Lackalimi. He's fighting
- 2:18:34in, like, Brampton. He lost to Harlan Eubank
- 2:18:38and David Papo. Yeah, those are not good names.
- 2:18:42Losing to Papo is fucking sad, by the way. By
- 2:18:46knockout. Yep. Papo knocked you out in seven.
- 2:18:52Papo or Papot? It's Papo. He's French. Papo.
- 2:18:56He's French. Oh, he is French. Okay. And he lost
- 2:18:59a very... He lost a UD to Liam Parrow most recently.
- 2:19:04That's... Yeah, that's where I remember him from.
- 2:19:07I was just like, fuck Josh Wagner. God damn it.
- 2:19:10This is the guy who can't even make it to the,
- 2:19:12like, nice casinos. That's a low fucking bar
- 2:19:17in Canada. Like, he's, like, Lac Limi is, like,
- 2:19:20right next to Ottawa. It's a nice casino. It's
- 2:19:22not a big venue, but it's, like, that's the bare
- 2:19:25minimum. Like, I will say the guys I follow,
- 2:19:29like, Eric Bazran and Logan Cloutier, they fight
- 2:19:33at Lac Limi. Like I said, I can't even make it
- 2:19:36to Lac Limi. It's tough. If you're boxing in
- 2:19:38Canada, it's not good. As a Canadian, it's not
- 2:19:44good. Oh, it's rough. I like exactly one guy
- 2:19:47is that boy. Nice. Well, um, other than that,
- 2:19:53we have Keyshawn Davis versus Nahir Albright
- 2:19:56in the rematch. That's our main event. I know
- 2:20:02Keyshawn is probably going to win and it's going
- 2:20:05to be very convincing because Keyshawn has shockingly
- 2:20:08accelerated a fair bit since coming back without
- 2:20:10a proper trainer, but Nahir Albright winning.
- 2:20:17He's got to win one of these. He's got to sing
- 2:20:22for us one more time. It'd be really funny. I
- 2:20:33actually like Nahir Albright too. He's not bad
- 2:20:37with it. He's just a little too patient. I think
- 2:20:42it's his worst flaw. That's fair, yeah. But when
- 2:20:46he is on the attack, he's a very, very capable
- 2:20:51operator. He has a good job of getting to his
- 2:20:56guy. And I like watching him. With Frank Martin,
- 2:21:02it was a fun fight. Their first fight was a no
- 2:21:08contest, but... It was pretty close on the cards.
- 2:21:13It was a majority decision. It was a majority
- 2:21:17decision. That's close on the cards. It is close.
- 2:21:22It probably should have been a draw. It was only
- 2:21:25a no contest because Keyshawn Davis was a marijuana
- 2:21:30addict. Smoking the devil's lettuce in Texas.
- 2:21:38Not allowed. Not happening. Not acceptable. Brutal.
- 2:21:44But, I don't know, it should be uncompetitive,
- 2:21:48but that's what you said about the first one.
- 2:21:50But, it might not be. Might be really fun. Because...
- 2:21:56I don't know, there's something very pleasing,
- 2:22:00because Albright doesn't come forward like a
- 2:22:02traditional pressure fighter, which is part of
- 2:22:05the problem, honestly, which is why it doesn't
- 2:22:07win. But there's just something about, like,
- 2:22:11Just the patience. It's very much like someone
- 2:22:15stalking their prey around the ring. It's nice.
- 2:22:19It's pleasing. This one's worth watching, probably.
- 2:22:26As a prediction, it's worth watching. Honestly,
- 2:22:32the whole card is not terrible. It's not a bad
- 2:22:35card. If you skip all the Davis brothers until
- 2:22:37the main... Just watch Brian Norman and then
- 2:22:41skip to Keyshawn. Yeah, Brian, god damn, Brian
- 2:22:45Norman. If he doesn't knock Josh Wagner out,
- 2:22:49like, genuinely. That's embarrassing. If he does
- 2:22:53not knock out Josh Wagner. Jin Sasaki needs to
- 2:22:56retire, too. If he doesn't knock out Josh Wagner.
- 2:23:00That is true whether or not Brian Norman will
- 2:23:03knock out Josh Wagner. 30 more rounds hard sparring
- 2:23:07for Jin Sasaki. Just for me suggesting that he
- 2:23:11should retire. Yeah. That fight was so good.
- 2:23:16I know we're going back, but the Jin Sasaki fight
- 2:23:20was great. It's going to come out after he retires
- 2:23:23that he did like... All his training was just
- 2:23:26hard sparring and weightlifting. Oh, no, no.
- 2:23:30Japan does not believe in weightlifting. That's
- 2:23:34not a thing they do. We're just doubling up on
- 2:23:37hard sparring. Oh, my God. Because, like, you
- 2:23:40know speed skating. Yeah. And, like, weightlifting
- 2:23:43and short track speed skating go hand in hand.
- 2:23:47Okay. The Japanese short track speed skating
- 2:23:50team did not lift. start lifting weights until
- 2:23:542008 so it's just push -ups and hard sparring
- 2:23:59no it's just skating just just sparring for boxing
- 2:24:09we're gonna get like six terabytes of like 4k
- 2:24:14like gym sparring from every day of his career
- 2:24:18Oh, my God. I would actually sit and watch that.
- 2:24:22That's what I'm saying. I'm saying, like, Japan
- 2:24:23could run the rest of the world out of business
- 2:24:25if they just hopped on Twitch and streamed every
- 2:24:28gym war. Yeah, 100%. Well, we're heading into
- 2:24:37Piss Jugs weekend. Do you have parting words?
- 2:24:43Don't piss in jugs. Toilets are perfectly acceptable.
- 2:24:47Do piss in jugs. Look at the amount of success
- 2:24:50a man who pisses in jugs has had. Okay. So this
- 2:24:54is going back to the Discord chat. But if you
- 2:24:58are a lady out at the bar and you need to use
- 2:25:03the bathroom, just fucking sit on the toilet.
- 2:25:05Don't hover. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah. Okay.
- 2:25:45How many times have you sat down and been like,
- 2:25:47I just sat and pissed. This is the worst. Like
- 2:25:49a lot of this podcast. Oh my God, dude. Just
- 2:25:51pro box. Good. I'm done. Good. I'm out. Jesus
- 2:25:57Christ. I'm so sorry, Leo. Oh my God. It's okay.
- 2:26:05Pro box. Good. And on that note, we out. Oh my
- 2:26:12God. Thank you.
