- 0:00Luke chapter 22 Now the feast of Unleavened Bread, which is
- 0:04called the Passover, was approaching.
- 0:06The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they
- 0:08might put him to death, for they were afraid of the people.
- 0:11And Satan entered into Judas, who was called Iscariot,
- 0:14belonging to the number of the 12.
- 0:16And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and
- 0:18officers how he might betray him to them.
- 0:20They were glad and agreed to give him money.
- 0:23So he consented and began seeking a good opportunity to
- 0:25betray him to them apart from the crowd.
- 0:28Then came the first day of unleavened bread, on which the
- 0:30Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
- 0:33And Jesus sent Peter and John saying, Go and prepare the
- 0:35Passover for us so that we may eat it.
- 0:37They said to him, Where do you want us to prepare it?
- 0:40And he said to them, When you have entered the city, a man
- 0:42will meet you carrying a pitcher of water.
- 0:45Follow him into the house that he enters, and you shall say to
- 0:47the owner of the house. The teacher says to you, Where
- 0:50is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with my
- 0:53disciples? And he will show you a large
- 0:55furnished upper room. Prepare it there.
- 0:58And they left and found everything just as he had told
- 1:00them, and they prepared the Passover.
- 1:02When the hour had come, he reclined at the table, and the
- 1:05apostles with him. And he said to them, I have
- 1:07earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I
- 1:10suffer. For I say to you, I shall never
- 1:12again eat it until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.
- 1:15When he had taken a cup and given thanks, he said, Take this
- 1:18and share it among yourselves. For I say to you, I will not
- 1:22drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the Kingdom of
- 1:24God comes. And when He had taken some bread
- 1:27and given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying,
- 1:30This is my body which is given for you.
- 1:33Do this in remembrance of Me. And in the same way He took the
- 1:36cup after they had eaten, saying, This cup which is poured
- 1:39out for you is the new covenant in My blood.
- 1:42But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with mine on the
- 1:44table. For indeed the Son of Man is
- 1:46going as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he
- 1:50is betrayed. And they began to discuss among
- 1:52themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do
- 1:54this thing. And there arose also a dispute
- 1:57among them as to which one of them was regarded to be
- 1:59greatest. And he said to them, The kings
- 2:02of the Gentiles, Lord it over them.
- 2:04Those who have authority over them are called benefactors.
- 2:07But it is not this way with you. But the one who is the greatest
- 2:10among you must become like the youngest and the leader like the
- 2:12servant. For who is greater, the one who
- 2:15reclines at the table or the one who serves?
- 2:17Is it not the one who reclines at the table?
- 2:20But I am among you as the one who serves.
- 2:23You are those who have stood by me in my trials, and just as my
- 2:26Father has granted me a Kingdom, I grant you that you may eat and
- 2:30drink at my table and my Kingdom, and you will sit on
- 2:33Thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel.
- 2:35Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you
- 2:39like wheat, but I've prayed for you that your faith may not
- 2:43fail. And you, and once you have
- 2:45turned again, strengthen your brothers.
- 2:48But he said to him, Lord, with you I am ready to go both to
- 2:50prison and to death. And he said, I say to you,
- 2:53Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied 3
- 2:56times that you know me. And he said to them, when I sent
- 2:59you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not
- 3:03lack anything, did you? They said no, nothing.
- 3:06And he said to them, but now whoever has a money belt is to
- 3:09take it along, likewise also a bag.
- 3:12And whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.
- 3:16For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in
- 3:20me. And He was numbered with the
- 3:22transgressors, for that which refers to me has its fulfilment.
- 3:26They said, Lord, look, here are two swords.
- 3:29And he said to them, It is enough.
- 3:31And he came out and proceeded, as was his custom, to the Mount
- 3:34of Olives. And the disciples also followed
- 3:36him. When he arrived at the place, he
- 3:39said to them, Pray that you may not enter into temptation.
- 3:42And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and he knelt
- 3:44down and began to pray, saying, Father, if you are willing,
- 3:47remove this cup from me. Yet not my will, but yours be
- 3:51done. Now an Angel from heaven
- 3:53appeared to him, strengthening him and being in agony.
- 3:55He was praying very fervently, and his sweat became like drops
- 3:59of blood falling down upon the ground.
- 4:01When he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found
- 4:04them sleeping from sorrow, and said to them, Why are you
- 4:06sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not
- 4:09enter into temptation. While he was still speaking,
- 4:12behold, a crowd came and the one called Judas, one of the 12 was
- 4:15preceding them. And he approached Jesus to kiss
- 4:18him. And Jesus said to him, Judas,
- 4:20are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?
- 4:23When those who were around him saw what was going to happen,
- 4:25they said, Lord, shall we strike him with the sword?
- 4:28And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off
- 4:30his ear. But Jesus answered and said,
- 4:33stop no more of this. And he touched his ear and
- 4:36healed him. Then Jesus said to the chief
- 4:38priests and officers of the temple and elders who had come
- 4:41against him, Have you come out with swords and clubs as you
- 4:43would against a robber? While I was with you daily in
- 4:46the temple you did not lay hands on me, but this hour and the
- 4:49power of darkness are yours. Having arrested him, they led
- 4:53him away and brought him to the House of the high priest.
- 4:56But Peter was following at a distance, after they had kindled
- 4:59a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down
- 5:01together. Peter was sitting among them,
- 5:04and a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and
- 5:06looking intently at him, said This man was with him too.
- 5:10But he denied it, saying, Woman, I do not know him.
- 5:13A little later another saw him and said, You are one of them
- 5:16too. But Peter said, Man, I am not.
- 5:19After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist,
- 5:23saying, certainly this man was also with him, for he is a
- 5:25Galilean too. But Peter said, Man, I do not
- 5:28know what you are talking about. Immediately while he was
- 5:31speaking, a rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked at
- 5:34Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had
- 5:38told him before A rooster crows today you will deny me three
- 5:41times. And he went out and wept
- 5:43bitterly. Now the men who were holding
- 5:46Jesus in custody were mocking him and beating him, and they
- 5:48blindfolded him and were asking him, saying, Prophecy, Who is
- 5:52the one who hit you? And they were saying many other
- 5:54things against him, blaspheming. When it was day, the council of
- 5:58elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes,
- 6:01and they led him away to their council chamber, saying, If you
- 6:04are the Christ, tell us. But he said to them, If I tell
- 6:08you, you will not believe, and if I ask a question you will not
- 6:11answer. But from now on the Son of Man
- 6:13will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.
- 6:16They all said, Are you the Son of God then?
- 6:19And he said to them, Yes, I am. Then they said, What further
- 6:23need do we have of testimony, for we have heard it ourselves
- 6:26from His own mouth.
