- 1:23Speaker 1: CP Image Award winning actress Wendy Rickale Robinson. This year
- 1:28Speaker 1: starts starting celebration of gospel music include performances from the
- 1:32Speaker 1: biggest names in gospel. Please work with the money making conversation.
- 1:35Speaker 1: The CEO, managing partner and Executive producer of African Pride
- 1:39Speaker 1: Gospel super Fest TV, Dr Bobby Cartwright Jr. Hey, how
- 1:45Speaker 1: are you and what what city are you calling me from?
- 1:48Speaker 1: My friend? Well, I'm calling you from Detroit this morning.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'm in Detroit. You said this morning. That means that
- 1:54Speaker 1: that's you just there this morning. So where are you
- 1:59Speaker 1: or you're based there? Where are you? Well, I'm based
- 2:01Speaker 1: in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, um suburb outside of Cincinnati
- 2:05Speaker 1: called Liberty Township. But I'm a native Ohio and it's
- 2:08Speaker 1: been in Ohio practically all my life. But we were
- 2:11Speaker 1: doing some rehearsals for the show yesterday UM in Detroit,
- 2:15Speaker 1: so I decided to just stay up here and work
- 2:17Speaker 1: today and tomorrow and come back home Wednesday. So the
- 2:21Speaker 1: talk to tell us about the African Pride Gospel Superface, well,
- 2:25Speaker 1: the African Proad Gospel superfessores UH in this nineteenth year
- 2:29Speaker 1: of production, as well as this nineteenth consecutive year in
- 2:33Speaker 1: domestic syndication, which you know all about working you know
- 2:37Speaker 1: in your past with TV and radio. We UM got
- 2:41Speaker 1: a vision from the Lord in about a new TV
- 2:45Speaker 1: show and I started reading the credits and doing my homework.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It took me two years to pull off the first one,
- 2:51Speaker 1: which was at the turn of the century, in the
- 2:54Speaker 1: year two thousand. So we did a three day festival
- 2:56Speaker 1: in Louisville, Kentucky, and that was our inaugural event, UH,
- 3:00Speaker 1: which turned up out to be the catalyst for what
- 3:03Speaker 1: we what was now a nineteen year brand UM in
- 3:07Speaker 1: black gospel music television. When you used the word African Pride,
- 3:11Speaker 1: that feels international as am I reading that wrong? Are
- 3:14Speaker 1: It's just a domestic African Pride and uh, it's a
- 3:19Speaker 1: hair care brand, African Pride is the title sponsor in
- 3:23Speaker 1: their hair care brand with multiple lines of hair care
- 3:28Speaker 1: uh specifically targeted towards African American consumers. And you and
- 3:32Speaker 1: I probably wouldn't use African Pride that much, but the
- 3:36Speaker 1: females in your listening audience and they would know all
- 3:39Speaker 1: about African Pride. Um. It's a you know, it's a
- 3:42Speaker 1: it's a household word within black hair care circles. But
- 3:46Speaker 1: just tell us why why African Pride, because it's just
- 3:48Speaker 1: that's your demo market that you said. You always said
- 3:51Speaker 1: Rishan Risha, You and I, well, that's not our that's
- 3:53Speaker 1: not our hair care brand with female that you want.
- 3:57Speaker 1: That is why you associated with that, the relations ship
- 4:00Speaker 1: and because you mentioned the sponsorships you mentioned. I really
- 4:04Speaker 1: enjoyed reading your bio because it was it was like
- 4:07Speaker 1: reading a business course because he was talking about making
- 4:10Speaker 1: your brand relatable, making your brand acceptable to advertisers and
- 4:14Speaker 1: things like that. That's that's really important to you and
- 4:17Speaker 1: building out this this model for long term success. Correct, Well,
- 4:21Speaker 1: that's true, and I may get in troubles because I'm
- 4:23Speaker 1: sure they have product lines for for male and children
- 4:27Speaker 1: as well. You know, it's like you know, the old
- 4:30Speaker 1: luster brands and things of that nature. I thinking product
- 4:32Speaker 1: goes along that line for black hair care. So if
- 4:36Speaker 1: I misspoke, I do apologize. But um, primarily the African
- 4:41Speaker 1: primarily gospel music in general targets towards a female demographic,
- 4:46Speaker 1: and um, just females go to church more than males.
- 4:50Speaker 1: That's just the way it is. And then after the
- 4:52Speaker 1: African American church, you'll find it as well more female
- 4:56Speaker 1: heavy and attendance saying um than it is a male attendance.
- 4:59Speaker 1: But with that being said, the African Pride hair care
- 5:02Speaker 1: brand is targeting you know, females eighteen and forty nine
- 5:08Speaker 1: is the primary and secondary demographic for their brand, and
- 5:12Speaker 1: that lines up with with gospel music, and it certainly
- 5:15Speaker 1: lines up with the African Pride Gospel superfess. And we
- 5:19Speaker 1: found our medium age to be right around forty years
- 5:22Speaker 1: old and real heavy in regards to female attendance and
- 5:27Speaker 1: all of our events. If you just look at our
- 5:29Speaker 1: crowd shoctors, you know, women love gospel of music and
- 5:31Speaker 1: men do too, but we find that the the audience
- 5:36Speaker 1: is predominantly female when we um, when we shoot, so
- 5:40Speaker 1: that's probably the marriage that the the ad agency for
- 5:44Speaker 1: African Pride saw and then they made you know, made
- 5:47Speaker 1: the connection and of course now we're partners in UH
- 5:50Speaker 1: in marketing with African Pride. Okay, cool, this is might
- 5:52Speaker 1: to make conversations now, oh yeah, oh yeah. So you
- 5:56Speaker 1: talked about TV show. What is outside TV show? Are
- 6:00Speaker 1: there are their booths? So there's like this is a
- 6:03Speaker 1: multi day event. It's a single day event. What's going
- 6:05Speaker 1: on it is that it is definitely a festival. We
- 6:08Speaker 1: start on Thursday. The Superfess Weekend starts on Thursday, and
- 6:11Speaker 1: we have an event called Making the Stage and that's
- 6:13Speaker 1: a new talent platform for artists to UM compete and
- 6:17Speaker 1: then the winner of that UH competition opens the show.
- 6:22Speaker 1: That in a couple of days. And then on Friday,
- 6:24Speaker 1: we have the first Ladies, Pastors and Community Leader's Reception.
- 6:28Speaker 1: That's on Friday, UH that's to benefit our scholarship fund
- 6:32Speaker 1: UH in the name of my late sister Gail F. Peoples,
- 6:34Speaker 1: who was an educator for forty years. That's Friday night.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And then Saturday, UM is the national TV taping for
- 6:41Speaker 1: the African Pride Gospel Superfessed with Donnie mcclerk and Ransall
- 6:46Speaker 1: and Ditrict had and TI Tribute UM Tina Campbell from
- 6:50Speaker 1: Mary Mary. That's the national recording, and we record our
- 6:53Speaker 1: entire season in one night, so we it's the five
- 6:56Speaker 1: hour marathon of some of the biggest names in gospel.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And and we're rolling out two of those specials UM
- 7:03Speaker 1: for the TV one broadcasting network, and then the other
- 7:06Speaker 1: three will be syndicated in domestic syndication. So it's a
- 7:10Speaker 1: uh it's a big event, one of the major television
- 7:14Speaker 1: tapes in black gospel today, and we've been fortunate enough
- 7:17Speaker 1: to sustain it through the help of Corporate America. Uh.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Some of our sponsors included Proctor and Gamble, Johnson and Johnson,
- 7:26Speaker 1: um Walmart. Of course, All State Insurance Company was our
- 7:30Speaker 1: title sponsor for eight years and now of course African
- 7:34Speaker 1: Pride is our new title sponsor for twenty nineteen. C
- 7:37Speaker 1: P and G. Proctor and Gamble, the instance that so
- 7:39Speaker 1: he could knock on that door, you know, were they
- 7:47Speaker 1: were our first major Uh. They came to the table first.
- 7:50Speaker 1: They did UM back in two thousand two and supported
- 7:54Speaker 1: us that they've been supporting this consistently down through the years.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And so we're certainly grateful for Proctor and Gamble, and
- 8:00Speaker 1: because Proctan Gamble has a lot of significant African America's
- 8:03Speaker 1: leaders and decision makers which allowed to understand this brand
- 8:07Speaker 1: and who this brand is in particular who they're reaching.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So it's really important to have those relationships with people
- 8:12Speaker 1: who not only support you but understand the value because
- 8:16Speaker 1: because like I said, not all money is good money,
- 8:18Speaker 1: but money to understand your brand is going to stick
- 8:20Speaker 1: with you long term. Correct, That's that's true. That's very
- 8:24Speaker 1: very true. And they do understand the diversity and and
- 8:28Speaker 1: and the different ethnic groups. And you can find Proctor
- 8:31Speaker 1: and Gamble strategically placing their efforts with the Hispanic community,
- 8:36Speaker 1: with the African American community and the general market community
- 8:39Speaker 1: as well. They're very uh, forward thinking brand managers that
- 8:44Speaker 1: really know how to target their audience and then go
- 8:46Speaker 1: after their you know, their target. Dr car Right, you
- 8:49Speaker 1: said something interesting in your conversation. Now I'm I'm only
- 8:52Speaker 1: here talking about the nineteenth Annual African Pride, which is
- 8:55Speaker 1: the sponsor Gospel super Fest TV. Then you said in
- 8:59Speaker 1: your conversation said we're finished taping all our shows, so
- 9:04Speaker 1: are we talking about And you said you have two specials.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It's just like a TV series, Yes, it is. UM.
- 9:10Speaker 1: When we origularly started Rashan, it was interesting because I,
- 9:14Speaker 1: you know, I don't want to get too spiritual on
- 9:15Speaker 1: the show, but I thought, I gotta you know, I know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I got a vision from God to do this, but
- 9:21Speaker 1: I didn't know how to produce it. So I had
- 9:24Speaker 1: to do two years of research in order before me
- 9:26Speaker 1: to do the first one. And so in in that
- 9:30Speaker 1: process UM, I was able to learn and glean from
- 9:35Speaker 1: people like yourself and people that were out in the
- 9:37Speaker 1: industry and to be able to pull pull pull this off.
- 9:41Speaker 1: But uh, we started off as a three day event,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and I'd probably have to see a burning bush before
- 9:48Speaker 1: I do a three day But then we then we
- 9:52Speaker 1: nailed it down to a two days in and then
- 9:55Speaker 1: by accident, we had all of this b role um
- 9:59Speaker 1: or footage that we couldn't place because we didn't really know,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you know, how to places. So we ended up developing
- 10:07Speaker 1: a half hour weekly and we cut up the shows
- 10:10Speaker 1: into half hour segments and sold it as Gospel Supers
- 10:14Speaker 1: Backstage Past. That particular brand was one of the launch
- 10:19Speaker 1: vehicles for the Balance Network. It was one of the
- 10:22Speaker 1: launch vehicles for Magic Johnson's Inspired Network. It air for
- 10:26Speaker 1: nine years on tb N, which is the largest Christian
- 10:29Speaker 1: network in the world. But all of this happened by
- 10:32Speaker 1: accident because we didn't know what we were doing. We
- 10:34Speaker 1: just had recorded all these acts and we had all
- 10:35Speaker 1: of this footage and we're like, when we do with it?
- 10:37Speaker 1: You know. So, so now that we know what our
- 10:40Speaker 1: deliberables are, we can shoot you know, five forty minutes
- 10:45Speaker 1: you know, one hour special insyndication is forty four minutes
- 10:49Speaker 1: and thirty seconds, and the rest of his commercials. So
- 10:51Speaker 1: now we can shoot five one hour specials in one night.
- 10:55Speaker 1: But when we first started, we were just doing the specials.
- 10:57Speaker 1: We were just doing a concert and letting the cameras
- 11:01Speaker 1: roll throughout the entire concert, not really thinking about the deliverables. Well,
- 11:05Speaker 1: after nine years, i mean nineteen years, excuse me, we're
- 11:09Speaker 1: you know, rethinking this is We're wait a minute, you know,
- 11:11Speaker 1: we don't want to overrecord, and we don't, and then
- 11:13Speaker 1: a record label is calling us and you know, we
- 11:15Speaker 1: haven't seen our act on TV or and so we
- 11:19Speaker 1: record now strategically for the deliverables, and so we don't
- 11:23Speaker 1: have to record three and four nights. We can just
- 11:25Speaker 1: record one night and pull off the entire season with
- 11:29Speaker 1: one one session. Well that's important to understand. Uh, we're
- 11:33Speaker 1: going out, We're closing out on our first break because
- 11:35Speaker 1: I'm bringing you back for next break. But I gotta
- 11:37Speaker 1: mention this of talking to the executive producer and uh
- 11:41Speaker 1: the Gospel Superfessors sposored by African prior TV Dr Bobby Cartwright,
- 11:46Speaker 1: julir Um, you're you're a couple of Lifetime Achieving awards
- 11:51Speaker 1: are being passed out Pastor Donoman Clarkin and Rant Allen group.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Uh wow, something in the name of Jesus, come on.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, iconic figures that we followed down, we falled down. Yeah. There.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Their their music will outlive them, for sure. A lot
- 12:10Speaker 1: of artists music outlive them. But it's something when you
- 12:13Speaker 1: can come to the Lord and tears and and and
- 12:16Speaker 1: one of these artists who have been so gifted, their
- 12:19Speaker 1: music will be playing as you're weeping and turning your
- 12:22Speaker 1: life around. And I've seen that happen so many times
- 12:24Speaker 1: with Pastor Donne's music and um, the way Rance Alan
- 12:28Speaker 1: just moves an audience to um to repentance. I mean,
- 12:31Speaker 1: it's just amazing how he's moving on because rest allan,
- 12:34Speaker 1: he's not moving. Now, he's not moving. He gonna he
- 12:37Speaker 1: can flat them two feet right there. Leave fall with
- 12:40Speaker 1: that microphone to make you cry. I tell you you
- 12:44Speaker 1: know what I when I when Uh you know you're
- 12:46Speaker 1: talking about you don't want to get to Holy Ghost
- 12:48Speaker 1: on the on the radio and you can't. We got
- 12:50Speaker 1: we got names like that. You have to realize what
- 12:52Speaker 1: they mean and what they meant for people over the years.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Like you said, gospel music is unique music because it
- 12:59Speaker 1: has a such a strong support system and even when
- 13:02Speaker 1: you're feeling good or feeling bad, it's always gonna be
- 13:05Speaker 1: there for you. And when I when I look at
- 13:07Speaker 1: what you're trying to do, I want to go in
- 13:10Speaker 1: detail about why you are honoring them. Uh I know why,
- 13:14Speaker 1: but let's hit the audience here why these two were
- 13:17Speaker 1: chosen this year to be honored at the the African
- 13:20Speaker 1: Pride Gospel super Fests. The nineteen year would be back
- 13:22Speaker 1: with more. Dr Cartwright Jr. Hi, just for Sean McDonald.
- 13:28Speaker 1: You're listening to Money Making Conversation podcasts live radio. Uh
- 13:32Speaker 1: serious x M on the phone is uh? Dr Bobby
- 13:35Speaker 1: Cartwright Jr. UM, it's interesting when you start interviewing somebody
- 13:39Speaker 1: and you have a small gem of information about what
- 13:42Speaker 1: they're accomplishing, and you realize that that that their story
- 13:46Speaker 1: and their accomplishments, uh, and what they're doing as as
- 13:49Speaker 1: is way bigger. Uh. He came on the show to
- 13:51Speaker 1: talk about the nineteenth and your African Pride, which is
- 13:54Speaker 1: a sponsor of Gospel super Fest TV. And Gospel super
- 13:58Speaker 1: Fest TV is not only the special two specials that
- 14:01Speaker 1: they do, but they also do a series that they
- 14:03Speaker 1: shoot as a as an experience that starts on the
- 14:06Speaker 1: Thursday and goes all the way through the finale, which
- 14:09Speaker 1: is that Saturday night, which is June two. You're back
- 14:12Speaker 1: on the phone there, dctor. Did I missed? That? Was?
- 14:16Speaker 1: I accurated my assessment that you were very accurate? Thank
- 14:19Speaker 1: you so much. We really appreciate the exposure. Well, guess what,
- 14:22Speaker 1: that's how we're working. That's why money making conversation is here.
- 14:25Speaker 1: So let's talk about to two young men I'm always
- 14:28Speaker 1: calling young uh Dr Pastor Donnie McClerkin and the Rance
- 14:31Speaker 1: Allen group. Let me just tell you a little bit
- 14:33Speaker 1: about my experience because Steve Harving out we hosted uh
- 14:37Speaker 1: uh and produced the b t Uh Gospel Celebration for
- 14:41Speaker 1: thirteen years. So I have deep roots and these young
- 14:44Speaker 1: men lives. And how first time I saw Rance Allen,
- 14:48Speaker 1: I didn't know who it was. And he's on stage
- 14:50Speaker 1: with Kurt Franklin and Los Angeles and and this song
- 14:55Speaker 1: something in the Name of Jesus, about the Name of
- 14:57Speaker 1: Jesus Uh that he started singing and it was for
- 15:01Speaker 1: the first time and and and I didn't know that
- 15:03Speaker 1: Kurt wrote the song. That's Kurt Franklin song. And so
- 15:06Speaker 1: that song has stayed with me all my life. And
- 15:10Speaker 1: I remember in two thousands, um Pastor Donna mcclarky came
- 15:14Speaker 1: into my life because we were playing on an R
- 15:16Speaker 1: and B hip hop station. We were playing his gospel
- 15:19Speaker 1: song we Fall Down and uh and so so so
- 15:24Speaker 1: so when you say, you know you don't want to
- 15:25Speaker 1: get too hyped about spirit, know that you can do
- 15:29Speaker 1: this on my show because I know I know the
- 15:32Speaker 1: value of what it has, you know. I remember in
- 15:35Speaker 1: eighteen eighty four when Kurt Franklin first came out with
- 15:39Speaker 1: his first hit song, and prior to our comedy show,
- 15:42Speaker 1: I played tupacs Uh. Dear Mama and I played Kurt
- 15:46Speaker 1: Franklin song and Steve Harvard looked at me, go rap
- 15:50Speaker 1: in gospel. That was in eighty four, and it was
- 15:54Speaker 1: in the Soldia show at the Music Halls, like forty
- 15:57Speaker 1: people sitting out there. Because I knew that that. I
- 16:00Speaker 1: didn't know Kirk, I didn't know Rance, I didn't know
- 16:03Speaker 1: Donnie mcclerking. But I just know that what you're doing
- 16:06Speaker 1: has so much value beyond just just a ticket sale.
- 16:11Speaker 1: It's about changing people's lives, motivating people when they're down, uh,
- 16:15Speaker 1: and spiritually giving them because a lot of people understand
- 16:18Speaker 1: that in gospel music really is is a faith that
- 16:23Speaker 1: is inspirational. A lot of people forget that component of
- 16:26Speaker 1: gospel music is motivational and inspirational. And if people would
- 16:31Speaker 1: understand that that's the basic drive behind gospel music, they
- 16:34Speaker 1: would see it differently. Yeah, And there's that's interesting because
- 16:38Speaker 1: I was just having a conversation with a person on
- 16:41Speaker 1: the street. Actually I was trying to go to the bank,
- 16:43Speaker 1: but I saw someone I knew. We started talking. And
- 16:47Speaker 1: gospel of music has an evangelistic tool to it where
- 16:50Speaker 1: you can draw people to the Lord, and it also
- 16:52Speaker 1: has an edification. Edification uh tool to it where it
- 16:56Speaker 1: can edify and build up the body of Christ those
- 16:58Speaker 1: of us who already believe Hers. So there's a lot
- 17:01Speaker 1: of different functions for gospel music other than just you know,
- 17:04Speaker 1: the alter call type music that I mentioned earlier in
- 17:06Speaker 1: our interview, as well as the music that just inspires
- 17:09Speaker 1: and uplifts the body of Christ. And then there's a
- 17:11Speaker 1: message that you can just enjoy whether you are say
- 17:14Speaker 1: believer or not. You can get certainly UH dances some
- 17:17Speaker 1: Kirk franking 's just from ryans Allen. But I wanted
- 17:20Speaker 1: to jump on one of the points that you made, Rashan,
- 17:23Speaker 1: because it was so I didn't realize it, but uh
- 17:26Speaker 1: we Falled Down was a crossover hit for Pastor mcclerk
- 17:29Speaker 1: and uh it really brought him to the mainstream. But
- 17:32Speaker 1: back in the day, a song called I Belonged to
- 17:35Speaker 1: You on Stacks Records was a crossover song for Rance
- 17:39Speaker 1: Alan that he got pushed back on when his songs
- 17:43Speaker 1: started to be playing in nightcloves and in other circles
- 17:46Speaker 1: other than the gospel of music circles. And uh Rance
- 17:49Speaker 1: was telling me the other day that um, they were
- 17:53Speaker 1: on the Big Stack Records tour with the Barcades and
- 17:57Speaker 1: Oldest Randing and all a little Isaac Hayes, all the
- 18:00Speaker 1: folks that was on stacks back in the day. And
- 18:02Speaker 1: the MC would just say, you know, we're gonna stop
- 18:04Speaker 1: and have church right now, and they bring the m
- 18:07Speaker 1: Salent group out and they would do their set and
- 18:09Speaker 1: they wouldn't change the thing. And then they go back
- 18:11Speaker 1: to Isaac Hayes and some of the other accent was
- 18:14Speaker 1: on the label. So they've been integrating their safe based
- 18:18Speaker 1: music for years and Pastor mc clark has been doing
- 18:21Speaker 1: the same in more recent years. But it's just ironic
- 18:24Speaker 1: that those both of those acts have had that kind
- 18:26Speaker 1: of experience in the in the business. You know, I
- 18:29Speaker 1: smell a documentary, Come on down, Dr Bob mc at
- 18:37Speaker 1: Julia smell a document because these stories, man, I tell you,
- 18:43Speaker 1: that's why I say that I think that that's the
- 18:45Speaker 1: next the wave that I'm talking about, the motivational side,
- 18:49Speaker 1: the inspirational side, because what happens is if you're gonna
- 18:52Speaker 1: get these young people, and that's what it is, because
- 18:55Speaker 1: you know, gospel tends to you know, there's a plus
- 18:57Speaker 1: thirty plus forty female jounal female driven up a fan
- 19:02Speaker 1: base is that the millennials and that Gen Z audience
- 19:07Speaker 1: is about entrepreneurship. They're about motivation, and we all know
- 19:11Speaker 1: social media is driven by motivation and inspirational thoughts. That's
- 19:15Speaker 1: why the conversation with Phil Thornton over Our City Inspiration,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I was just talking about how you have to control
- 19:21Speaker 1: your narrative, and I enjoy talking to you because you
- 19:24Speaker 1: are doing that. But I think the next message that
- 19:27Speaker 1: we need to let everybody knows that that that the
- 19:29Speaker 1: negative thing that that gospel music gets is that it
- 19:33Speaker 1: feels like, you know, it feels like it's so And
- 19:35Speaker 1: I'm trying to say it right because I want to
- 19:38Speaker 1: let everybody understand that, you know, everybody don't have to
- 19:42Speaker 1: go to church to draw the blessings of gospel music.
- 19:47Speaker 1: And that tends to to to be the message, it
- 19:52Speaker 1: needs to be the message where if we if we
- 19:54Speaker 1: let everybody know, just like I don't have to go
- 19:56Speaker 1: to a nightclub there and George jay Z, we see
- 19:59Speaker 1: that that's not resonating in the gospel community. You said
- 20:02Speaker 1: saying it's like a certain certain type of person is
- 20:06Speaker 1: supposed to be listening to music, and that's not true.
- 20:09Speaker 1: And so so my my my vos and my and
- 20:12Speaker 1: my my cause the champion. And one of the reasons
- 20:15Speaker 1: I wanted to get you on the phone was to
- 20:17Speaker 1: be able to say that that that I want to
- 20:19Speaker 1: be in a position to be able to start caring
- 20:22Speaker 1: that tort and motivation that carrying that tort you for
- 20:25Speaker 1: you not to say, hey, I don't want to I
- 20:27Speaker 1: don't want to get to holy goosts on you. But
- 20:29Speaker 1: you know I don't want to get to spiritual on you.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Why not? Well, you know, because I you know, the
- 20:35Speaker 1: whole ending. I don't want the interview to be about me.
- 20:37Speaker 1: That's the main reason. Excuse me, excuse me. Uh, I
- 20:43Speaker 1: want to put it out there. I definitely want to
- 20:45Speaker 1: be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus. Class are ashamed
- 20:47Speaker 1: of my testimony. But when I was in the R
- 20:49Speaker 1: and B field, I got hooked on cocaine, and the
- 20:52Speaker 1: last six years of that I was hooked on crack cocaine,
- 20:55Speaker 1: and I lost every worldly possessing that I had in
- 20:58Speaker 1: life to THEE. So I got saved in nineteen eighties
- 21:02Speaker 1: seven and born again and delivered, and and then the
- 21:07Speaker 1: Lord called me into gospel music ministry, and that's where
- 21:10Speaker 1: I am today. So when I said that, I was like,
- 21:13Speaker 1: you know, how much time do you really have on
- 21:14Speaker 1: the radio today because I could really tell you something
- 21:17Speaker 1: those things. But yeah, I'm a born, born again Christian
- 21:20Speaker 1: and they delivered um cocaine addict. So and I don't
- 21:24Speaker 1: always talk about that. When I was raising my kids,
- 21:26Speaker 1: I didn't want to glorify drug abuse or anything of
- 21:28Speaker 1: that nature. Is nothing to brag about, but that was
- 21:31Speaker 1: the route I foolishly took in my youth years. I started,
- 21:37Speaker 1: you know, very very early in my pre teens actually
- 21:39Speaker 1: abusing drugs or sub type. So when I became thirty
- 21:43Speaker 1: years old, as when I got born again, and then
- 21:45Speaker 1: I started producing the gospel superfessuh years later, about a
- 21:49Speaker 1: decade later, when I started producing the Superfess. So you know,
- 21:52Speaker 1: that's when I said, I didn't want to go run
- 21:56Speaker 1: anybody away, but what I wanted the lifestyle and the
- 22:01Speaker 1: in the business coincides with what you know. My beliefs
- 22:05Speaker 1: are whether release or that you have a journey, and
- 22:09Speaker 1: that's what this shows about. It's just see, I don't
- 22:12Speaker 1: like everybody here in this overnight success story or people
- 22:15Speaker 1: think that you just showed up in Hollywood you look good.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Somebody tapped you on the shoulder, so you started in
- 22:20Speaker 1: a Marvel movie. It doesn't work like that. My journey.
- 22:23Speaker 1: And I can tell you about a cancer survivor, I
- 22:25Speaker 1: can tell you about the standing in hospital for thirty days.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I can tell you about uh following off a six
- 22:30Speaker 1: ft high ladder and bringing just my arm okay, falling backwards. Okay.
- 22:35Speaker 1: So so we all have these stories. But then in
- 22:38Speaker 1: the process of creating these stories, they mean that there's
- 22:41Speaker 1: the things where journey is attached to it. And when
- 22:43Speaker 1: people hear the journey, they know that what inspired you? Okay,
- 22:48Speaker 1: where were you at in the high and the low points?
- 22:50Speaker 1: And that's all I'm saying is that your journey is
- 22:54Speaker 1: equally as important. Is that's promoting the nineteenth Annual Aprican
- 22:57Speaker 1: Fried Gospel super Fest TV that journey. Without that journey,
- 23:03Speaker 1: we're not talking today. Without the journey, We're not having
- 23:06Speaker 1: this honest conversation about success and failure because you understand both.
- 23:10Speaker 1: So who do I want to talk to. I want
- 23:11Speaker 1: to talk to about who's never failed? And they're like, no, no,
- 23:17Speaker 1: I appreciate that. I do appreciate that. And that's something
- 23:19Speaker 1: you know, probably will be in my book slash documentary
- 23:22Speaker 1: down the road. But I certainly, you know, and I
- 23:26Speaker 1: am a little reserved, you know, when I'm on you know,
- 23:29Speaker 1: in public settings about all of the uh, you know,
- 23:33Speaker 1: the things that we've done, the mistakes that we've made
- 23:35Speaker 1: down through the years, and so when I you know,
- 23:38Speaker 1: but I am relevant to uh, the opioid crisis that
- 23:41Speaker 1: we have now and the things that are going on
- 23:43Speaker 1: when people are being tricked by the devil and and
- 23:46Speaker 1: falling in the divers uh addictions and things of that nature.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I do know that there is another side. A lot
- 23:53Speaker 1: of times when you're in bonded just like that, uh,
- 23:56Speaker 1: when you're when you're experiencing it, you just don't see
- 23:59Speaker 1: any way out. Well, you know, I'm thirty years on
- 24:01Speaker 1: the other side of crack addition, so I do know
- 24:04Speaker 1: that there is a way out, and there's a way
- 24:06Speaker 1: for the Lord to keep you out. And so that
- 24:09Speaker 1: message has to be has to you know, be out
- 24:11Speaker 1: there as well with my man you you you're allowing
- 24:14Speaker 1: me to deliver it on my podcast by live radio show,
- 24:17Speaker 1: my Serious XTIM Show. That's why it's important. I'm talking
- 24:20Speaker 1: to the executive producer of an eighteenth Annual African Pride
- 24:23Speaker 1: that's the sponsor of the Gospel super Fast TV. The
- 24:26Speaker 1: show is at the cart Right Excuman Show Us at
