- 4:53Speaker 1: knowing this man a long time. I actually met him
- 4:55Speaker 1: several times. My next guest was born in Brooklyn, New York.
- 4:59Speaker 1: It was an orphan and foster child for fifteen years.
- 5:02Speaker 1: He spent twenty years in leadership positions with Procter and Gamble,
- 5:05Speaker 1: United Way and Ford Motor Company before starting his own business,
- 5:08Speaker 1: Frasier Net, a company founded over thirty years ago to
- 5:12Speaker 1: lead a global networking and economic development movement for people
- 5:15Speaker 1: of African descent. He's written six best selling books to
- 5:18Speaker 1: include Success Runs in Our Race, Click and most recently,
- 5:23Speaker 1: Mission Impossible Extraordinary Stories of Failures Blessings, a book he
- 5:28Speaker 1: co authored with the Incredible motivator Les Brown. Interviewed him
- 5:32Speaker 1: last year on My show. Upscale Magazine named him one
- 5:35Speaker 1: of the top fifty power brokers in Black America, and
- 5:38Speaker 1: Black Enterprise magazine called him Black Black America's number one
- 5:42Speaker 1: networker and featured him on its cover. Please welcome to
- 5:45Speaker 1: money making Conversations. The chairman and CEO of Frasier Net,
- 5:49Speaker 1: Dr George C. Fraser, is so good to hear your voice,
- 5:55Speaker 1: My brother, Oh my God, and God bless you for
- 5:58Speaker 1: the work that you're doing. Radio program is outstanding. Its
- 6:03Speaker 1: gangster that's what it really is. And exceptionalism. Man, I
- 6:06Speaker 1: don't know. I mean that from my heart. I love you.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Keep doing God's work. You are really adding tremendous value
- 6:14Speaker 1: to the lives of our people. Man. So it's an
- 6:15Speaker 1: honor to be on your show this morning. I'm just
- 6:19Speaker 1: tickled big. I'll be honest with you. Well, George, I
- 6:22Speaker 1: want to say thank you for that. And that's why,
- 6:24Speaker 1: First of all, your your parents on my show is
- 6:26Speaker 1: long overdue because I've been fan and Uh. I met
- 6:29Speaker 1: you several years ago, Steve Harving. Now I did an
- 6:31Speaker 1: event with you up in Ohio and Uh. But but
- 6:35Speaker 1: your your your pioneer and UH, when you're a pioneer
- 6:40Speaker 1: in something that means that a lot of people tell
- 6:43Speaker 1: you that's not a good idea. Why are you doing
- 6:45Speaker 1: trying to do that? How did you overcome negative spirits?
- 6:49Speaker 1: That's why I like to call negative spirits um uh,
- 6:54Speaker 1: just to be candid and and and succinct. Uh. Fundamentally,
- 6:58Speaker 1: um A ignored them. I ignored them. UM. I know
- 7:03Speaker 1: that God has a plan for me. I know that
- 7:05Speaker 1: there are obstacles that I will have to overcome uh
- 7:08Speaker 1: to fulfill the plan that God has for me. Uh.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And one of the obstacles is overcoming negativity and overcoming
- 7:16Speaker 1: what people tell you you can or cannot do. Uh,
- 7:18Speaker 1: and understanding that it's not how you start, it's how
- 7:21Speaker 1: you finished. In spite of the fact that I grew
- 7:23Speaker 1: up in an orphanages and foster care and mop floors
- 7:27Speaker 1: on the midnight ship at La Guardia Airport for three
- 7:29Speaker 1: years of my life to learn humility, UM, I knew
- 7:34Speaker 1: that that that was not my life, that it was
- 7:37Speaker 1: just lessons that I needed to learn. So so it's
- 7:40Speaker 1: a lot of self talk. We have to talk to
- 7:42Speaker 1: ourselves positively. We have to tell the mind what we want,
- 7:47Speaker 1: not what other people want for us. Um. And I
- 7:50Speaker 1: mean that in a loving and giving way, because there
- 7:53Speaker 1: are people that come into our lives and our mentors,
- 7:56Speaker 1: that are coaches, that are elders that we must listen
- 7:58Speaker 1: to and give us God. But fundamentally, uh mentors, coaches
- 8:03Speaker 1: and elders do not speak negatively. They speak positively and powerfully,
- 8:08Speaker 1: like Steve Harvey does, like you do, like people that
- 8:11Speaker 1: you have around encircled your life. So that's how I
- 8:15Speaker 1: do it. I mean, it's no more complicated than that.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Listen to God, listen to yourself. God is constantly talking
- 8:21Speaker 1: to you, telling you exactly what to do, except most
- 8:23Speaker 1: people choose not to listen. Listen because God is telling
- 8:26Speaker 1: us to change, to listen, to grow intellectually, to read uh,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and to be uh, you know, curious, mentally curious. We
- 8:33Speaker 1: are mentally lazy people. To many of us, we're not
- 8:37Speaker 1: intellectually curious. So God is telling us exactly what to
- 8:40Speaker 1: do every minute of every day, but we choose not
- 8:43Speaker 1: to listen because we don't want to change. It's just
- 8:46Speaker 1: easier sitting on a couch, drinking or being watching television.
- 8:49Speaker 1: So you must avoid that. We must man up, We
- 8:52Speaker 1: must woman up. We must demonstrate the gangsterism in black people.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And I'm redefining gangster rashan to be black exceptionalism, Black exceptionalism,
- 9:03Speaker 1: not the thug life, but black exceptional with Steve Harvey
- 9:06Speaker 1: is gangster. You are gangster, showing you've been gangster ever
- 9:10Speaker 1: since I've been knowing you. I mean, I mean when
- 9:12Speaker 1: you when you look at what Steve Harvey has done.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And I know Steve Harvey right. I've been in Cleveland
- 9:18Speaker 1: for fifty two years. My partner Greg Williams, my late
- 9:20Speaker 1: partner Greg Williams, and I had a nightclub and Steve
- 9:24Speaker 1: Harvey was one of the first comedians we hired for
- 9:26Speaker 1: our nightclub back in the early eighties when we looked
- 9:29Speaker 1: at what Steve Harvey has done with the proper management,
- 9:32Speaker 1: the proper input, the proper people around you. Uh, he's
- 9:36Speaker 1: one of my heroes. I mean when he really is,
- 9:39Speaker 1: he is one of my heroes. Uh. And so that
- 9:43Speaker 1: he and I know that Steve Harvey, with the help
- 9:46Speaker 1: of you, has overcome all kinds of men. You can't
- 9:49Speaker 1: do that, all kinds of negativity. That's because you have
- 9:54Speaker 1: to surround yourself with the right people and then visions
- 9:58Speaker 1: and uh and and with Steve and I as you
- 10:00Speaker 1: sit down all the time, and he go, you really
- 10:02Speaker 1: think I can do that? And because I always felt
- 10:04Speaker 1: that he could cross over. I always felt that his
- 10:06Speaker 1: talent or his his his form of entertainment could be
- 10:09Speaker 1: relatable to anybody. And he was a hard worker. And
- 10:13Speaker 1: I feel that when when you talk about God, you
- 10:16Speaker 1: talk about a lot of people want to listen. There's
- 10:18Speaker 1: always time to how much effort you want to do
- 10:20Speaker 1: because the gold and opportunity for you to succeed is there,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and you've been doing this all your life. What is
- 10:27Speaker 1: the next step in your business journey? That's right, that's right,
- 10:31Speaker 1: because you know we live in America, this is the
- 10:32Speaker 1: greatest country in the world. I said, every place the
- 10:34Speaker 1: black people have been dispersed South Africa, Central Africa, East Africa,
- 10:37Speaker 1: West Africa, North Africa, all over South America, all over
- 10:40Speaker 1: the Caribbean. There are no black people in the entire
- 10:42Speaker 1: world doing better than we are. So there is an
- 10:45Speaker 1: unlimited opportunity in this country in spite of the racism
- 10:49Speaker 1: in this country. And we still live in a racist country,
- 10:51Speaker 1: make no mistake about that. So opportunity is not lacking
- 10:55Speaker 1: in America. Um, what what is lacking among the black
- 10:59Speaker 1: people is capacity building, the capacity having the positive mental
- 11:03Speaker 1: attitude to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities that are everywhere.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Steve saw it, You saw it, I saw it, and
- 11:12Speaker 1: I can listen for you. Thousands of brothers and sisters,
- 11:15Speaker 1: in spite of their circumstances, in spite of the isms
- 11:19Speaker 1: of America, have succeeded at the highest levels in this country.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And it's important that you say that, because first of all,
- 11:25Speaker 1: one has the midday is a problem. But don't allow
- 11:28Speaker 1: the problem to win. Okay, don't let your color, your
- 11:31Speaker 1: skin to become a negative. And I've always said that.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I said to my daughter. I said to anybody who
- 11:36Speaker 1: walks up to me, I always tell people there in life,
- 11:38Speaker 1: if you're trying to be in the decision making position,
- 11:41Speaker 1: nobody makes a decision. Nobody looks behind them to make
- 11:44Speaker 1: a decision. They always look at you. They look left
- 11:47Speaker 1: and right. So your your your job is to be
- 11:50Speaker 1: in the sight range. You know, if you are looking
- 11:53Speaker 1: behind yourself saying, hey, I'm back here trying to make
- 11:55Speaker 1: a decision, that's too much effort to go what you're
- 11:58Speaker 1: doing back there, They're gonna look all, they're gonna look left,
- 12:01Speaker 1: they're gonna look right now right, did you're not position
- 12:04Speaker 1: yourself to be in sightline? Don't claim racism? Don't there
- 12:08Speaker 1: you go. If you ever if you ever flew any
- 12:10Speaker 1: place right, if you ever got on a jet plane
- 12:12Speaker 1: with the pilot, you notice that there are no rear
- 12:14Speaker 1: view mirrors on a jet plane. Right. They're going forward, man,
- 12:17Speaker 1: They're going forward in six hundred miles an hour. They're
- 12:19Speaker 1: not looking backwards. They're going forward. So that's a profound
- 12:22Speaker 1: point and a profound inside. And I hope you're listening
- 12:25Speaker 1: audience takes that to heart, because that's exactly I look forward.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I didn't care about the negativity. Steve didn't care about it.
- 12:32Speaker 1: You didn't care about it. We were looking forward and
- 12:34Speaker 1: we were pressing the medal to putting the metal to
- 12:37Speaker 1: the pedal. Le meass it this. So you said, the
- 12:39Speaker 1: power cropfers Larne day. Do you have any dates and
- 12:42Speaker 1: when it wears the conference? Yes, the conferences in Houston, Texas.
- 12:46Speaker 1: It is uh next June, June down there because Houston, Texas,
- 12:52Speaker 1: that's my hometime hometime there we go. Houston has the
- 12:55Speaker 1: fifth or sixth largest Black population in America, about six
- 12:59Speaker 1: hundred thousand half Frican Americans, but the fifty thousand Nigerians
- 13:04Speaker 1: who have migrated to Houston because of it's the oil
- 13:06Speaker 1: center of the United States as Nigeria as I think
- 13:09Speaker 1: one of the fourth or fifth largest oil reserves in
- 13:12Speaker 1: the world. So that's where we're gonna be. If you
- 13:14Speaker 1: want to know more about the Power Networking Conference next year,
- 13:17Speaker 1: just go to www dot Power Networking Conference dot com.
- 13:20Speaker 1: That's up ww dot Power Network and Conference dot com.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And also send me Avanta sending a banner and send
- 13:26Speaker 1: me abandons I put on on social media. So let's
- 13:27Speaker 1: start the world. Well, I will okay, I will I will,
- 13:30Speaker 1: I will, And I want you there, I want you there.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I'm there, I'm there, I'm there, I'm there. That's my hometown.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I have a home in Atlanta. I have a home
- 13:37Speaker 1: in Houston, Born and raised in Houston. I am about entrepreneurship.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I'm about spreading the message, and I'm about being a
- 13:42Speaker 1: part of something that's pro but the world, the world.
- 13:45Speaker 1: The thing I love about your your tone is that, hey,
- 13:48Speaker 1: holding people are accountable, no excuses. Let's win together. Okay,
- 13:52Speaker 1: we'll African Americans, we can win and we can have
- 13:54Speaker 1: that same breath of opportunity. But guess what if you're
- 13:56Speaker 1: not willing to listen, you're not willing to throw down
- 13:59Speaker 1: the gauntlet and willing to be gangster, And guess what
- 14:02Speaker 1: step aside? You get right over? You get right over
- 14:04Speaker 1: by the gamesters. You gotta get right overs, asked Steve
- 14:10Speaker 1: Harvey's of all the people told him he couldn't do
- 14:13Speaker 1: what he is doing. He just over with his Mac truck. Okay,
- 14:17Speaker 1: God bless him. If I got my quip electric toothbrush,

- 17:01Speaker 1: world famous for Sean McDonald, and I'm now talking about
- 17:04Speaker 1: the world famous brand that's blinds. Goodlord dot com was
- 17:07Speaker 1: the first place to buy custom window treatments online. Because
- 17:11Speaker 1: of that, they know what they're doing, you hear me.
- 17:13Speaker 1: They've been doing this for over twenty years and have

- 19:41Speaker 1: do it to bring it to you because you cover
- 19:43Speaker 1: so many layers of entertainment and uh, you kind of
- 19:46Speaker 1: like three sixty with me. And so when I'm talking
- 19:48Speaker 1: to you, I don't feel like I'm pigeonhole in the conversation.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm asking you in public and front all my my listeners,
- 19:53Speaker 1: my fans, will you do my show once a month
- 19:57Speaker 1: media prints. I will greatly exce up. I want to
- 20:04Speaker 1: feel the wrath of telling Russian McDonald no, first of all,
- 20:08Speaker 1: Rushan Rishan McDonald. But that's all right, and we get
- 20:13Speaker 1: that straight. And but the thing about it is that
- 20:15Speaker 1: what I want you to know is that I want
- 20:17Speaker 1: you to be on my show on a regular basis,
- 20:19Speaker 1: and um, I feel that you will deliver entertainment on
- 20:23Speaker 1: a high level. So with that being said, what's going
- 20:26Speaker 1: on out there in the entertainment world? Okay, okay, So
- 20:29Speaker 1: of course I'm gonna be coming to you guys giving
- 20:31Speaker 1: you everything. Entrepreneurship, So of course we follow these celebrities
- 20:35Speaker 1: were all up in their life, but the one aspect
- 20:38Speaker 1: of their life that they never showcase is that a
- 20:41Speaker 1: lot of these celebrities dabble into entrepreneurship. Of course, entrepreneurneurship
- 20:46Speaker 1: is on the rise. Everyone wants to work from themselves.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Who doesn't want to be their own boss. So I'm
- 20:55Speaker 1: gonna give you guys a few celebrities that you may
- 20:57Speaker 1: not know or even entrepreneurs that are paying even the
- 21:00Speaker 1: way they name a couple of name a couple of it,
- 21:02Speaker 1: so we know where you're going with that. Okay, So
- 21:04Speaker 1: first we're gonna talk about actress Sophia the Guard. So
- 21:08Speaker 1: of course we know her Queen exactly. Of course, everyone
- 21:13Speaker 1: loves her for Modern Family, her cover Girl commercials, her
- 21:17Speaker 1: hair commercials, UM but little troupe. People know that she
- 21:20Speaker 1: has a company called ebby UM. It's a subscription based
- 21:24Speaker 1: underwear company. So yes, you could just buy subscription and
- 21:28Speaker 1: they'll shift you underwear each month. And what made it
- 21:31Speaker 1: UM even more ethic was as of July ten, she's
- 21:35Speaker 1: become one of the most philanthropical famous entrepreneurs and it's
- 21:39Speaker 1: be due to her business actually donating tempera cent of
- 21:42Speaker 1: its sales to helping women UM get small loans to
- 21:47Speaker 1: start their businesses. So her entrepreneurship is opening the door
- 21:50Speaker 1: for more entrepreneurships to come. And it's really um with
- 21:54Speaker 1: the Empowerment seven Bar Foundation, right correct, seven Bar Foundation.
- 22:00Speaker 1: And now is it happening all women or women of
- 22:04Speaker 1: Latino or African American or just general market, just women
- 22:07Speaker 1: who are trying who are poverty related, trying to get
- 22:10Speaker 1: into a small business. So it's actually dedicated to low
- 22:13Speaker 1: income and poverty women in poverty. You know, no no color.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Broke knows no color, no no broth knows no color.
- 22:22Speaker 1: So it actually helps and giving them a chance to
- 22:26Speaker 1: be the bread winners. What I created to show money
- 22:29Speaker 1: making conversations about opportunity, and I really want you to
- 22:32Speaker 1: come on here, want the more just to talk about
- 22:34Speaker 1: these things because it allows me to go inside my
- 22:36Speaker 1: head and also to expand the brand of money making
- 22:39Speaker 1: Conversations outside of just these interviews, because there's a lot
- 22:43Speaker 1: more to be said, a lot more to be offered
- 22:45Speaker 1: in the world of entrepreneurship, entertainment. And uh, what better
- 22:49Speaker 1: person delivered than media prints as long as day, as
- 22:52Speaker 1: long as you said my name right, media prints, Rushan McDonald,

- 26:24Speaker 1: them suspenders, but when you pay a little money for them,
- 26:26Speaker 1: they call them braces. The hold of the pains, you
- 26:29Speaker 1: know somewhere bracest See, this is what they call an accessory.
- 26:32Speaker 1: You know. See people that people that they go into

- 27:28Speaker 1: trade shows and accessive rising women at every trade show
- 27:31Speaker 1: that you can imagine. And I drove my minivan. We
- 27:33Speaker 1: never we never flew. I didn't have the budget for that,
- 27:36Speaker 1: you know. I put that dollars in my in my minivan.
- 27:39Speaker 1: And it was also the first year of my twin
- 27:41Speaker 1: boys wife. I had just dropped twin boys. They were
- 27:44Speaker 1: you know, three, you know, three months at the time,

- 30:57Speaker 1: had a thirteen year NBA career at two time NBA
- 31:00Speaker 1: All Star and record holder independent movie mogul. He has
- 31:03Speaker 1: several companies sports and lifestyle and culture called Slick, the
- 31:07Speaker 1: Black Santa Company, which I love, Business Land Inside the Game,
- 31:11Speaker 1: Business Inside the Game, called Big and No Label, each
- 31:15Speaker 1: with the objective of combining creative talent with the original
- 31:18Speaker 1: publication and production to develop and provide educational and heartwarming
- 31:22Speaker 1: stories that appeal to global audiences of all ages. Please
- 31:26Speaker 1: welcome to Money Making Conversations Byron Davis. Thank you, guys.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I was wondering who you were talking about. I was
- 31:33Speaker 1: looking at for that. You need to really need to
- 31:35Speaker 1: stop backing. I just go back when we when we
- 31:39Speaker 1: first met many years ago, used to come up to
- 31:41Speaker 1: the Steve Hard Morning Show. I was the producer. We
- 31:43Speaker 1: just we just we were chopping up back then when
- 31:45Speaker 1: you were doing those Magic Johnson All Star Games back
- 31:48Speaker 1: in the day. Man, I've always been a big fan
- 31:50Speaker 1: of yours. But one thing I wanted to say about
- 31:53Speaker 1: you is that I said renaissance. Man. I said that
- 31:55Speaker 1: with with with a lot of uh, I say pride,
- 32:02Speaker 1: because man, you've always from the jump you kind of
- 32:04Speaker 1: like you kind of like started this little motion for
- 32:07Speaker 1: these athletes going out there into entertainment. So I'm gonna
- 32:09Speaker 1: give you credit, man, because you jumped out there first,
- 32:13Speaker 1: and because you you you know you you you. You've
- 32:15Speaker 1: had an amazing career because I always tell people because
- 32:19Speaker 1: I followed your career and unfortunately it was filled with injuries,
- 32:22Speaker 1: and but every time you came back from an injury,
- 32:25Speaker 1: you performed at a high level. And I want to
- 32:28Speaker 1: just thought that right quick, was what was that motivation?
- 32:30Speaker 1: Because a lot of times when you get injured, you
- 32:32Speaker 1: can just give up. You can just go hey, man, wow,
- 32:35Speaker 1: I'm tired of this. But you came back. Every time
- 32:37Speaker 1: you came back, Man, you was a bad man on
- 32:40Speaker 1: that court. Explained to us. How did that happen? Burn? Man?
- 32:45Speaker 1: You know, I think it's just from my upbringing. You know,
- 32:47Speaker 1: uh got survive right, And you know it's like now
- 32:56Speaker 1: people are calling it uh PTSD right, Uh, But I
- 33:01Speaker 1: think that when you grew up, a situation is like
- 33:04Speaker 1: you know, in the in the city, he's just way
- 33:06Speaker 1: out to survive. And when you're back against the wall,
- 33:09Speaker 1: it's almost like you're so used to that, You're so comfortable,
- 33:13Speaker 1: that's familiar with that, that it just becomes the norm.
- 33:17Speaker 1: And so for me, you know, every time I got injured,
- 33:21Speaker 1: you know, I always know I have my mind and
- 33:23Speaker 1: you know, my imaginations and and will and you just
- 33:28Speaker 1: don't realize how much how much you can benefit from having,
- 33:33Speaker 1: you know, great imaginations, because that's really what it's driven
- 33:37Speaker 1: you to this point away from basketball, uh, getting into projects.
- 33:42Speaker 1: How does like say I used to word independent mogul,
- 33:46Speaker 1: you know in the movie game, how does want to
- 33:49Speaker 1: bring an idea to you? Because I'm sure you get
- 33:51Speaker 1: you get you get addressed with this situation all the time.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Somebody got an idea, Hey man, all that needs some
- 33:56Speaker 1: money from you? Burn, Come on, mare, hook me up.
- 33:58Speaker 1: I get your idea gonna make you use dollars? What
- 34:01Speaker 1: drives you in the created platform? For me, it's being creative.
- 34:05Speaker 1: It's being a person who always asked people for money.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Hey man, let me get them let me get some
- 34:13Speaker 1: money to make a movie from you know what, what
- 34:16Speaker 1: what Jarge need is is I think that there's an
- 34:20Speaker 1: opportunity and um, you know, to tell great stories and
- 34:26Speaker 1: stories about us, stories about you know, how we um,
- 34:32Speaker 1: who we are, what we do see ourselves in different lives. Um,
- 34:37Speaker 1: you know you're starting to see a little bit. Black
- 34:40Speaker 1: Panther was one. Um, you know, we got to get
- 34:44Speaker 1: out and Moonlights. So you know, there's always gonna renaissance
- 34:48Speaker 1: of black cinema. And you know, for me, just I
- 34:53Speaker 1: want to be a historian, you know and be a
- 34:56Speaker 1: part of that. And so creatively is going back and
- 35:02Speaker 1: you know, mining our culture. Let me match you this now,
- 35:05Speaker 1: you know, because you wanted to talk about technology and
- 35:08Speaker 1: there's a there's a huge gap that you that you
- 35:10Speaker 1: want to make you're trying to close. How are you
- 35:12Speaker 1: playing a role in closing the racial gap? Because I've
- 35:16Speaker 1: always been a proponent. Are a person that says that
- 35:20Speaker 1: you know, we buy technology, you know, African Americans we
- 35:24Speaker 1: buy smartphones, we buy we buy Apple phones, you know,
- 35:27Speaker 1: but sometimes we don't get credit for that. We don't
- 35:29Speaker 1: get credit for being technically savvy, and we are. So
- 35:34Speaker 1: how do you how do you? How do you are
- 35:36Speaker 1: you using your brand to close that gap of information? Uh?
- 35:40Speaker 1: From me, it's just about right. You gotta hire, you
- 35:44Speaker 1: gotta invest, you gotta find the people who who are
- 35:49Speaker 1: doing that. Um. I was just visiting with a lady
- 35:53Speaker 1: who's been in over thirty five years in last years,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and she's game, excuse me, pushing technology for thirty five
- 36:03Speaker 1: years and now it's finally out of place where people
- 36:07Speaker 1: can well, we can actually get some credit. Right. But
- 36:11Speaker 1: we have all these pioneers, all these hidden figures throughout
- 36:15Speaker 1: our history, and we've just never embraced them. And now
- 36:19Speaker 1: that everything is a buzz word, right, it's almost like
- 36:25Speaker 1: we always think that we're late. Right, We're not late
- 36:28Speaker 1: to technology because technology is going to be the baseline
- 36:32Speaker 1: of this world. We just don't support and rally around
- 36:38Speaker 1: our elders and rally around the people that have done
- 36:41Speaker 1: it and then pay it back. And so for me,
- 36:45Speaker 1: I think that you know, tech is that is a
- 36:48Speaker 1: it's a buzz word but it's something that you know,
- 36:51Speaker 1: we should be teaching our kids now, I said it
- 36:55Speaker 1: better on the high path than we are. So we
- 36:58Speaker 1: should be teaching them out of code, should be teaching
- 37:00Speaker 1: them how to design, right, we should be putting them
- 37:03Speaker 1: in design camps things like that. Um, you know, even
- 37:07Speaker 1: if as much as even when they play sports, they
- 37:11Speaker 1: got to take art and to take a language, and
- 37:13Speaker 1: they're gonna have to do something with that computer, right
- 37:16Speaker 1: because the way the world is going and the way
- 37:20Speaker 1: the opportunity is, you know, you never know, you never
- 37:23Speaker 1: know what kid is gonna once they learned how to
- 37:26Speaker 1: code out of South Essential may wind up be a
- 37:30Speaker 1: five time off thing and code. Hey man, I'm gonna
- 37:33Speaker 1: call you professor that now you're Professor Davis. Professor Davis,
- 37:37Speaker 1: because you know you've got that little rhythm now right
- 37:39Speaker 1: there be you got that little rhythm. I win? Is he?
- 37:41Speaker 1: Is he a teacher? Year? Is he my professor? I
- 37:44Speaker 1: felt like because in my degree is in mathematics. So
- 37:47Speaker 1: so I'm I fight for for the for the knowledge
- 37:51Speaker 1: that that I've been able to obtain. My daughter, you know,
- 37:53Speaker 1: she's a she's in a freshman year and going to
- 37:55Speaker 1: the second year college, the kind of good engineer that
- 37:58Speaker 1: she came to your dad. I don't like that. I
- 38:00Speaker 1: want can I go on the Gami vocation? I say,
- 38:02Speaker 1: you can do what you wanna do, Okay, just just
- 38:05Speaker 1: stay in that lane of education and technology. And and
- 38:09Speaker 1: she's she's happy now. And when I hear you talk,
- 38:11Speaker 1: professor Professor Davis, you know, professor David right here? You talk. Man,
- 38:17Speaker 1: See what I'm gonna do. A money making conversation tour.
- 38:19Speaker 1: That's what I'm gonna do. It's gonna happen. I'm gonna
- 38:22Speaker 1: I have to invite you. Man, you gotta go. First
- 38:26Speaker 1: of all, you're gonna be funny. You're gonna be funny. Okay,
- 38:29Speaker 1: and you and you go, and you got money that's cheap,
- 38:33Speaker 1: and you and you and you and your stop quip
- 38:35Speaker 1: because I love my smile and I love my teeth.
- 38:38Speaker 1: When is the last time you replaced your toothbrush? Do

- 40:04Speaker 1: I've been having trouble finding that guy, man, Professor Davis Man.
- 40:10Speaker 1: I got I gotta get you on that man, because
- 40:13Speaker 1: because you are you are you, you have done that
- 40:15Speaker 1: journey and it's still doing that journey. And the fact

- 40:27Speaker 1: saying that because you're on my show. I've seen you
- 40:30Speaker 1: uh way back and two thousands played watching college basketball,
- 40:35Speaker 1: watching you get drafted, watching you play, watching you get back,
- 40:39Speaker 1: And because when you were playing those all star games
- 40:41Speaker 1: for Magic Johnson, you didn't have to be there. That
- 40:43Speaker 1: was your own time because Magic was doing it for scholarships.
- 40:46Speaker 1: So you you're not changed, my man. You just got
- 40:49Speaker 1: a little bit older. But you're a good looking older,
- 40:52Speaker 1: so that's all right with me. But the thing is
- 40:55Speaker 1: that you're building time and you you invest in. But
- 40:58Speaker 1: police don't ever say you were lucky because you're a

- 41:39Speaker 1: had effect on me too, Because a lot of people
- 41:41Speaker 1: give me a lot of credit for changing their lives.
- 41:43Speaker 1: But guess what, they changed my life just like he did.
- 41:46Speaker 1: And he's changing lives today. Money making conversations. We'll be

- 44:24Speaker 1: Let me give you some quotes. Some some recent um
- 44:27Speaker 1: newspaper and magazines and USA Today dated January. He was
- 44:33Speaker 1: called the most powerful talent in the sports business just
- 44:36Speaker 1: a year ago, and he followed it up with his
- 44:38Speaker 1: best year as a professional. First Take had his highest
- 44:41Speaker 1: rated ever ratings ever since. It's since it largely nearly
- 44:44Speaker 1: a decade ago after making the move to ESPN, combining
- 44:48Speaker 1: his quest to annihilate the competition alone with management showing
- 44:52Speaker 1: more belief in him than ever before, there's no reason
- 44:55Speaker 1: to believe the face of ESPN will not change soon.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Here's another quote from The New Yorker magazine dated June
- 45:03Speaker 1: how the star first Take became ESPN's most recognizable face.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Here's another quote from another article recently in USA Today
- 45:12Speaker 1: dated September. September, he would do anything for ESPN, but
- 45:18Speaker 1: his ambitions. Don't stop there. I love it. Please working
- 45:22Speaker 1: the money, making conversations, sports and General Hospital, soap opera
- 45:26Speaker 1: star stephen A. Smith? What's going on man? How are
- 45:31Speaker 1: you doing? I'm doing fantastic, Steven. I wish, I wish
- 45:35Speaker 1: I was a star in General Hospital. I gotta work
- 45:37Speaker 1: on my active SHOT's going off. I'm going good man. Uh.
- 45:40Speaker 1: First of all, um, just just how did that start?
- 45:43Speaker 1: I wouldn't just get that out real quick because a
- 45:45Speaker 1: lot of people know about it. A lot of people
- 45:46Speaker 1: don't know about it. But you really enjoy appearing on
- 45:49Speaker 1: General Hospital as the character Brick No, I love it. Um.
- 45:54Speaker 1: You know, it's a lot of fun because I grew
- 45:57Speaker 1: up watching the soap coming to home from school. We
- 46:00Speaker 1: had a couple of TVs in my house, and I
- 46:04Speaker 1: had four older sisters and they were all watching General Hospital.
- 46:07Speaker 1: You know, we were an ABC family. That's why I
- 46:10Speaker 1: so ironic that I'm with the ESPN and the part
- 46:12Speaker 1: of the Walt Disney an ABC family because that's the
- 46:16Speaker 1: main channel we grew up watching. And um, if you
- 46:19Speaker 1: wanted to watch TV after you came home from school,
- 46:21Speaker 1: you had to watch you in the hospital because the
- 46:23Speaker 1: two TVs we had in my house. That's what the
- 46:25Speaker 1: TV was on. And if you didn't want to do that,
- 46:28Speaker 1: then you're gonna have to go and do your homework. So,
- 46:30Speaker 1: you know, usually usually we ended up watching General Hospital.
- 46:34Speaker 1: And I've been watching General Hospital since I was about
- 46:38Speaker 1: seven years old and I've never stopped ever since I'm fifty,
- 46:42Speaker 1: it's been about three years and I have been watching
- 46:44Speaker 1: General Hospital. And I remember one time I showed up
- 46:48Speaker 1: at General Hospital and the cast there, uh, you know,
- 46:52Speaker 1: trying to test me. They're like, we here that you're
- 46:55Speaker 1: this guy that's watched this, and they would ask me
- 46:57Speaker 1: about a scene. I said, actually, no, that wasn't de Seve.
- 47:00Speaker 1: This was the Sea and it was before they had
- 47:02Speaker 1: even appeared on the show. And they were there for
- 47:05Speaker 1: like twenty years. And my wealthy Hell no, I ain't broke, okay.
- 47:10Speaker 1: And I came from the historically black institution after getting
- 47:13Speaker 1: left back in the fourth grade, and I climbed the
- 47:16Speaker 1: charts and through sheer hard work and determination and ultimately
- 47:20Speaker 1: made myself into what I am today. Anybody out there,
- 47:26Speaker 1: you got a good possibility to be Stephen A. Smith.
- 47:29Speaker 1: It's a one of a billion shot you'll ever be
- 47:31Speaker 1: a Kobe or j V or anybody else like that.
- 47:34Speaker 1: And that's the kind of message that I want to send.
- 47:36Speaker 1: And that's what that's the kind of message that my
- 47:38Speaker 1: book is going to resonate. What about because that's important
- 47:42Speaker 1: because I love that you said that, because you know,
- 47:45Speaker 1: as they say, if you have the physical talents, that
- 47:47Speaker 1: separates you. But you're saying and also you were dyslexic. Correct,
- 47:52Speaker 1: that's right, that's correct, and we shouldn't we shouldn't, and
- 47:55Speaker 1: that that didn't stop you. That that the level of
- 47:58Speaker 1: determination and guidance uh that you that you had along
- 48:02Speaker 1: the way in the mentors that you had a long way.
- 48:03Speaker 1: I always feel that I'm a I'm a mentor to
- 48:05Speaker 1: you because of the fact that, first of all, you're
- 48:07Speaker 1: so gifted and and when I first met you. You know,
- 48:11Speaker 1: it's really interesting when you meet a talent like stevenen Ape,
- 48:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk to him in the third party because
- 48:16Speaker 1: of the fact that he's a naturally smart guy and
- 48:20Speaker 1: he always corrects me. That's our Joe, I running Joe Rashan, Rashan,
- 48:23Speaker 1: you can't say that word like that. Stop that, stop that.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Because he's a genius. When he comes to words, and uh,
- 48:30Speaker 1: the fact that he's going to write a book, and
- 48:32Speaker 1: allow un intimate book about his growth as a as
- 48:36Speaker 1: a human being, his his childhood years, and the fact
- 48:39Speaker 1: he's gonna turn these words into motivational for everyday people.
- 48:42Speaker 1: That's why I say college students resonate with him, adults
- 48:45Speaker 1: resonate with him. Uh. He said he watched TV. He's
- 48:48Speaker 1: a big pan of big fan of power. So my man,
- 48:52Speaker 1: that's what I want to just take the time. Thank you,
- 48:54Speaker 1: thank you for coming to my show, and thank you
- 48:55Speaker 1: for sharing your story. No problem. I appreciate that. Man,

- 50:22Speaker 1: years ago that I learned to appreciate a large part

- 50:29Speaker 1: the way that I would see you do things behind

- 51:22Speaker 1: I've already written a couple of chapters, um, you know,
- 51:26Speaker 1: and it's a motivation of book, you know, essentially through
- 51:30Speaker 1: the lens of my life, my story and what got
- 51:33Speaker 1: me here today. You know, as I said on on
- 51:36Speaker 1: First Take one day a couple of years ago, that
- 51:39Speaker 1: really resonated virally. Um, I said, you know what people
- 51:44Speaker 1: look at the Kobe Bryant, the Shaquille O'Neil, jay Z
- 51:48Speaker 1: and others. And they called them the American dream, and
- 51:51Speaker 1: I say, no, I'm the American dream. They're in. They're
- 51:55Speaker 1: in American fantasy turned reality. But it's a one in
- 51:59Speaker 1: a billion shot that you can be them. But guess
- 52:03Speaker 1: what you could be Stephen A Smith, who all I
- 52:06Speaker 1: did was bust my tail, work hard and climb the
- 52:10Speaker 1: ladder um and it would do nothing but sheer, hard work, determination. Uh,
- 52:17Speaker 1: And I guess some modicum of intelligence or whatever the
- 52:20Speaker 1: case may be. The bottom line is that it's not
- 52:23Speaker 1: a fantasy to become me. You can do it. A
- 52:27Speaker 1: lot of people can do it because I did it
- 52:30Speaker 1: the older you know, the old fashioned way. I just
- 52:32Speaker 1: worked hard of it. That's not to imply that those
- 52:35Speaker 1: guys that I mentioned to and worked very hard. I'm
- 52:38Speaker 1: simply saying, look at the you know, the the talent
- 52:42Speaker 1: that they have, the gifts that they have been blessed with,
- 52:45Speaker 1: and ultimately the wealth they were able to accumulate because
- 52:48Speaker 1: of it. And my wealthy Hell no, I ain't broke, okay.
- 52:53Speaker 1: And I came from a historically black institution after getting
- 52:56Speaker 1: left back in the fourth grade, and I climbed the
- 52:59Speaker 1: chart than do. Sheer, harder, working, determination and ultimately made
- 53:04Speaker 1: myself into what I am today. Anybody out there, you
- 53:09Speaker 1: got a good possibility to be Stephen A Smith. It's
- 53:12Speaker 1: a one of a billion shot you'll ever be a
- 53:15Speaker 1: Kobe or j V or anybody else like that. And
- 53:17Speaker 1: that's the kind of message that I want to send.
- 53:20Speaker 1: And that's what that's the kind of message that my
- 53:21Speaker 1: book is going to resonate with God, because that's important,
- 53:25Speaker 1: because I love that you said that, because you know,
- 53:28Speaker 1: as they say, if you have the physical talents, that
- 53:30Speaker 1: separates you. But you're saying and also you're dyslexic. Correct, yes, right,
- 53:36Speaker 1: that's correct, and we shouldn't we shouldn't, and that that
- 53:38Speaker 1: didn't stop you. That that the level of determination and
- 53:42Speaker 1: guidance uh that you that you had along the way
- 53:45Speaker 1: in the mentors that you had a long way. I
- 53:46Speaker 1: always feel that I'm a I'm a mentor to you
- 53:48Speaker 1: because of the fact that, first of all, you're so
- 53:51Speaker 1: gifted and when I first met you, you know, it's
- 53:55Speaker 1: really interesting when you meet a talent like Stephen, as
- 53:57Speaker 1: if I'm gonna talk to him in the third party
- 53:58Speaker 1: because of the fact that he's a naturally smart guy,
- 54:02Speaker 1: and he always corrects me. That's our Joe running Joe rashean, rashean,
- 54:07Speaker 1: You can't say that word like that. Stop that, Stop that.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Because he's a genius when he comes to words, and uh,
- 54:13Speaker 1: the fact that he's going to write a book and
- 54:15Speaker 1: allow un intimate book about his growth as a as
- 54:19Speaker 1: a human being, his his childhood years, and the fact
- 54:22Speaker 1: he's gonna turn these words into motivational for everyday people.
- 54:25Speaker 1: That's why I say college students resonate with him, adults
- 54:28Speaker 1: resonate with him. Uh. He said he watched TV. He's
- 54:31Speaker 1: a big pan of big fan of power. So my man,
- 54:35Speaker 1: that's what I want to just take the time. Thank you,
- 54:37Speaker 1: thank you for coming to my show, and thank you
- 54:39Speaker 1: for sharing your story. No problem. I appreciate that. Man,
- 54:42Speaker 1: y'all take it easy. Thank you for having me. Hey man,
- 54:45Speaker 1: do your think Stephen A. Smith Micheanan McDonald doing my
- 54:48Speaker 1: thing on money making conversations. One thing I would conceived
- 54:51Speaker 1: about Stephen A. Smith is that when I look at
- 54:53Speaker 1: a person like him, it can be you look at
- 54:56Speaker 1: a person like myself in the mirror. I tell people
- 54:58Speaker 1: it can be me, It can be me. You can
- 55:00Speaker 1: be me, but you don't really want to be me.
- 55:03Speaker 1: You want to be you. Because my journey to success
- 55:07Speaker 1: is very different. But the word that is very similar
- 55:11Speaker 1: to his story, to Steve Harvey story, to Kobe Bryant story,
- 55:15Speaker 1: the Shock story is hard work. Willingly get up and
- 55:20Speaker 1: do it despite sadness, despite physical uh setbacks, mental setbacks,
- 55:26Speaker 1: social setbacks, to do it. And that's why I created
- 55:29Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation to give you a lane to do
- 55:32Speaker 1: it and stop making accuses. And I'm saying that you
- 55:35Speaker 1: have an excuse, but I've made excuses in my life.
- 55:39Speaker 1: And guess what all the deal was? Make me feel
- 55:42Speaker 1: bad because I had still had to get it done.
