- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarful Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Good morning. It is Monday, February 16th,
- 0:192026. You're listening to Connecting the Dots,
- 0:22and I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan. We are coming to
- 0:24you live from the Snarful Solutions Group headquarters
- 0:27here in a... Well a very rainy Sacramento, California.
- 0:32It is definitely a gray start to the week We're
- 0:34here to help you get it started breaking down
- 0:36the tech news and figuring out how it you know
- 0:38actually Connects to your life and it is gonna
- 0:40be a busy one It certainly is first a quick look
- 0:43outside if you're here with us in Sacramento.
- 0:45Happy Washington's birthday We're looking at
- 0:47rain and a high of just 51 degrees So yeah, keep
- 0:50that umbrella handy and for the rest of the country
- 0:52a quick heads up There's a fire weather alert
- 0:55for the central and southern plains. We're talking
- 0:58gusty winds, low humidity. Meanwhile, out west,
- 1:02two big Pacific storms are rolling in, so expect
- 1:04rain at low elevations and some pretty heavy
- 1:07mountain snow. Please be safe out there if you're
- 1:09traveling. OK, let's glance at the markets. Friday's
- 1:12close was a bit of a mixed bag. The Dow Jones
- 1:15was up, but just barely. Closing at forty nine
- 1:17thousand five hundred point nine three. Yeah,
- 1:19and the S &P 500 was basically flat It closed
- 1:22at six thousand eight hundred thirty six and
- 1:24for anyone watching crypto bitcoins trading down
- 1:27a little this morning It's sitting around sixty
- 1:28eight thousand three hundred fourteen point seven
- 1:30three, which is off about Point six seven percent
- 1:33for the day So a bit of a slow start if you're
- 1:35feeling that slow start like I am we've got just
- 1:38the thing We are so excited to welcome our new
- 1:40partner strong coffee And this is not your typical
- 1:43instant coffee. Strong coffee is premium and
- 1:46it actually tastes like a real traditional brew.
- 1:48But here's the kicker. It's packed with 15 grams
- 1:51of protein, MCTs, and adaptogens like ashwagandha.
- 1:55Which means you get this clean, sustained energy,
- 1:57but without the jitters or that awful afternoon
- 2:00crash. I had some this morning. It's fantastic.
- 2:02So if you want to give it a try, head over to
- 2:04strongcoffeecompany .com and listen to this.
- 2:07Use our promo code SNARFL for 20 % off your entire
- 2:10purchase. That's a great deal. And you'll need
- 2:12that energy because our Morningstar report is,
- 2:14uh... Very full today. It is. For our new listeners,
- 2:17the Morningstar is our internal snarfle tech
- 2:20article report. We've got three huge stories
- 2:23today. We're talking about the rise of AI agents,
- 2:27a user explosion in India, and a push for something
- 2:29called a global AI commons. It really feels like
- 2:32we're moving into a new phase. We're past just
- 2:35cool demos, and now we're talking about real
- 2:37infrastructure. Let's jump right in. Our first
- 2:40story is a huge hiring announcement from OpenAI.
- 2:43This was all over X yesterday. Sam Altman announced
- 2:46that Peter Steinberger is joining the company.
- 2:48And if you're a developer, that name is probably
- 2:50very familiar. He's the creator of OpenClaw.
- 2:52Right, which used to be called Quadbot and Moltbot.
- 2:55This thing is an open source AI agent that just
- 2:58went completely viral in early 2026. Viral is
- 3:02an understatement. We're talking 198 ,000 stars
- 3:05on GitHub. millions of site visits in just a
- 3:08few weeks, it's huge. And this isn't his first
- 3:10success. Steinberger founded a company called
- 3:13PSPDF Kit, ran it for 13 years, sold it, and
- 3:17then started playing with AI agents as a side
- 3:19project. And now Sam Altman is calling him a
- 3:21genius. Well, it's the specific mission that's
- 3:23so interesting. Yeah. He said Steinberger is
- 3:25there to drive the next generation of personal
- 3:28agents. He's talking about very smart agents
- 3:31that interact with each other. Okay, let's break
- 3:33that down because I think we hear AI And our
- 3:36minds immediately go to chat bot. But an agent
- 3:39is different, right? They're fundamentally different.
- 3:41A chat bot is like a really smart librarian.
- 3:45You're asking a question, it finds the answer,
- 3:47and it gives it to you. It's about information.
- 3:49OK. An agent is more like an executive assistant.
- 3:52It doesn't just answer. It does things. It completes
- 3:55tasks, makes decisions, takes action, all without
- 3:58you needing to guide every single step. So instead
- 4:00of asking ChatGPT to, say, write an email to
- 4:04my dentist, an agent could check my calendar,
- 4:07find an open slot, call the dentist's scheduling
- 4:09system, book the appointment, and then just put
- 4:12it on my calendar for me. Exactly. You give it
- 4:14the goal and it figures out the steps. It's a
- 4:16huge leap. And this hire is happening while OpenAI,
- 4:20which is now valued at a wild $500 billion, is
- 4:23fighting a war on a few different fronts. They
- 4:25really are. You have to talk about the competition
- 4:27here. Entropic has been doing some amazing work.
- 4:29They really have. Their Claude Opus 4 .6 and
- 4:33Claude code models are fantastic at coding and,
- 4:36maybe more importantly, at sustaining really
- 4:39long, complex tasks. That's the battle right
- 4:42now. Can your AI finish a big job without getting
- 4:45confused? And Anthropic has been winning on that
- 4:48reliability front, but there's a really crucial
- 4:50detail in this OpenAI news about the open source
- 4:53angle. Yes. Usually a big company buys a project
- 4:57like this and immediately shuts it down or makes
- 4:59it proprietary. But they're not doing that. No.
- 5:01This is the strategic move. OpenClaw is going
- 5:04to remain open source and it will live in a foundation
- 5:06that OpenAI supports. And that matters because
- 5:09it's already popular everywhere, including China.
- 5:11It is. It works with Chinese models like DeepSeek.
- 5:14By hiring Steinberger but keeping the project
- 5:16open, OpenAI gets to keep a major foothold in
- 5:19that fast -moving open source community. It's
- 5:21a classic if you can't beat them, fund them strategy.
- 5:24It keeps them relevant in a space where they're
- 5:26usually seen as the closed guys. And it gives
- 5:28them priceless data on how people are actually
- 5:30using these agents in the wild. So if you had
- 5:33a perfect personal agent right now, what's the
- 5:36first annoying task you'd get it to do for you?
- 5:38Oh, that's so easy. My digital photos. They're
- 5:42a complete mess. I have them scattered across
- 5:44Google Photos, iCloud, old hard drives. I feel
- 5:47that. I would pay so much money for an agent
- 5:50that could just go in, tag everything, delete
- 5:53the duplicates, and organize it all. What about
- 5:54you? Dentist appointments 100 % or maybe waiting
- 5:58on hold with customer service Oh, that's the
- 6:00one if an agent can just sit on hold with the
- 6:03airline for 45 minutes And then ping me when
- 6:06a human finally answers that would be life -changing.
- 6:08I think the death of hold music would be the
- 6:10ultimate killer app And that actually brings
- 6:14us perfectly to our next story because while
- 6:16we're dreaming about these advanced agents The
- 6:18current chat bots are growing at an insane rate,
- 6:20especially in India The number here is just staggering.
- 6:23Sam Altman is in New Delhi right now for the
- 6:25India AI Impact Summit. And he just revealed
- 6:28that ChatGPT has hit a hundred million weekly
- 6:31active users in India. A hundred million. That
- 6:34makes India OpenAI second largest market right
- 6:36behind the U .S. Yeah. And globally ChatGPT is
- 6:39around eight hundred million weekly users, almost
- 6:42nine hundred million. So one out of every eight
- 6:45or nine users is in India. And here's the really
- 6:48interesting part. The demographic. Altman said
- 6:51India has the largest number of student users
- 6:53in the world. That's the key. This isn't just
- 6:56corporate adoption. This is the next generation
- 6:58of workers building habits right now. It's just
- 7:01like how we all learn to use Microsoft Word in
- 7:03school, you know? Yeah. That locked in an entire
- 7:05generation. OpenAI is hoping for the same effect.
- 7:08But, and this is the big but, how do you make
- 7:11money from that? 100 million users is great,
- 7:14but are they paying customers? That is the multi
- 7:18-billion dollar question. Most are on the free
- 7:21tier. The average mobile data plan in India costs
- 7:24less than $3 a month. So asking someone to pay
- 7:27$20 a month for a subscription is a tough sell.
- 7:30And Google is not making it any easier for them.
- 7:32Not at all. Google's move is incredibly aggressive.
- 7:35They partnered with Reliance Geo, which has 480
- 7:38million subscribers. And what's the offer? They're
- 7:40giving Geo's 5G customers their Gemini AI model
- 7:43and get this 2 terabytes of cloud storage free
- 7:47for 18 months. Two terabytes? That's impossible
- 7:49to compete with. Once you've moved your entire
- 7:51digital life into that storage, you are not leaving.
- 7:54It's a classic mode. So OpenAI had to respond.
- 7:56They launched a cheaper localized version called
- 7:59ChatGPT Go for under $5. And then they had to
- 8:03make that free for a year for some users just
- 8:06to stay in the game. It's a price war. So they're
- 8:08also trying to compete on quality on localization.
- 8:11They launched something called in QA. Right.
- 8:14It's a benchmark for 12 different Indian languages,
- 8:16Hindi, Bengali, Tamil. The goal is to prove their
- 8:20model understands the local culture and nuance
- 8:22better than anyone else's. It's a long term play.
- 8:25Altman is betting that India won't just be a
- 8:27consumer of AI, but a builder of it. Exactly.
- 8:30But for now, it's a brutal fight for market share,
- 8:33not revenue. Speaking of building, that leads
- 8:35us perfectly into our third story from the Morningstar.
- 8:38We're staying in India, but we're shifting from
- 8:40the corporate battle to public infrastructure.
- 8:42And this might be the most important story of
- 8:44the day. I think it is. This comes from Apishak
- 8:47Singh, who is the CEO of the Indie AI mission.
- 8:50As you said, the big summit starts today in New
- 8:52Delhi. It's the first global AI summit ever hosted
- 8:55in the global south. And he's proposing a vision
- 8:57for a global AI commons. And this is just. It's
- 9:02such a refreshing way to frame the conversation.
- 9:05Instead of talking about stock prices, the vision
- 9:07is about citizen impact. How does AI help a farmer,
- 9:12a doctor in a rural village? And they're putting
- 9:14serious money behind it. The budget is around
- 9:161 .2 billion US dollars. They're building the
- 9:19actual nuts and bolts. Singh said they have 38
- 9:22,000 GPUs live right now. Which might not sound
- 9:25like a huge number compared to a U .S. data center,
- 9:27but the key is how they're deploying them, right?
- 9:30Exactly. The government is incentivizing private
- 9:32investment, but they're also subsidizing access.
- 9:35If you're a startup or a researcher, the government
- 9:37will cover up to 100 % of your GPU costs to build
- 9:40a foundational model. That is a massive deal.
- 9:43It just completely lowers the barrier to entry
- 9:45for anyone with a good idea. And it's not just
- 9:47compute. They're providing the data, too, through
- 9:49this platform called AI Cosh. Gosh, like a treasury
- 9:53or a repository. Right. It already has 7 ,000
- 9:55datasets and 400 open source models available.
- 9:59The idea is to create this shared data layer
- 10:00so a developer doesn't have to start from scratch.
- 10:03I love the quote from Singh. He said, artificial
- 10:06intelligence is not meant to replace people.
- 10:08It is meant to empower them. It really reframes
- 10:12AI as. public infrastructure, like roads or electricity.
- 10:16It's a utility that everyone can build on top
- 10:18of, not just a product you buy from Silicon Valley.
- 10:21It's about democratizing access. Which is such
- 10:23a different perspective from the job -stealing
- 10:26fears we so often hear about. It is. The ambition
- 10:28is huge. Of course, execution is everything.
- 10:31But the vision of a global AI commons is powerful
- 10:34statement that says, we're going to build this
- 10:36future for ourselves. What a day. From Austrian
- 10:39developers to summits in New Delhi, the AI map
- 10:42is definitely getting bigger. It absolutely is.
- 10:45And before we do our final recap, we want to
- 10:46give a shout out to one more partner that keeps
- 10:48us going. That's right. If you are a golfer looking
- 10:51to upgrade your shoes, you have to check out
- 10:53Skoni. That's spelled S -K -O -N -I. Skoni makes
- 10:57premium golf shoes that are unbelievably comfortable.
- 11:00Honestly, they feel more like a high -end sneaker
- 11:03than a stiff, traditional golf shoe. And we have
- 11:05a great deal for you. Use the promo code SNARFL
- 11:07at checkout and you'll get 15 % off your entire
- 11:10purchase. Just go to scony .com. Alright, let's
- 11:13do a quick recap. A lot of information today,
- 11:15so let's connect those dots. Okay. First, the
- 11:18age of AI agents is here. Peter Steinberger joining
- 11:21OpenAI means AI is about to get much better at
- 11:24doing things for you, not just talking. Second,
- 11:27India is now a certified AI superpower with 100
- 11:31million weekly users. It is a massive and very
- 11:35fierce battleground between Google and OpenAI
- 11:38for those users. And finally, the IndieAI mission
- 11:40is trying to reframe the global conversation.
- 11:43By treating AI as public infrastructure, they
- 11:46want to make sure its benefits reach everyone,
- 11:48from farmers to doctors. It's a vision of AI
- 11:51as a public utility. It's a great reminder that
- 11:53the tech is only half the story. The other half
- 11:55is who gets to use it and how. That's it right
- 11:58there. Well, we have a lot to keep an eye on
- 11:59this week, but that is our show for today. We're
- 12:02here to help it snarfle, so reach out on our
- 12:04website if you have any more questions. Thanks
- 12:06for listening, everyone. Have a great Monday.
- 12:12That's a wrap on today's top stories. Remember,
- 12:15tech doesn't have to be complicated, and we're
- 12:17here to help connect the dots. If you've got
- 12:20questions or want to learn more, visit us at
- 12:22snarful .com. Thanks for listening and we'll
