- 0:00Speaker 1: My guest today is Running Green. He's the charismatic host
- 0:03Speaker 1: of a fishing story. Running Green is a graduate. Because
- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm from Texas, I always got throughout that Texas connection.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Is a graduate of Texas Tech University, where he ran track.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Now I didn't run tracks, so I was just a
- 0:15Speaker 1: guy who watched people run track. He served as I
- 0:18Speaker 1: have to thank him for the US He's a US
- 0:20Speaker 1: Marine Corps veteran and successful former executive in the corporate world,
- 0:25Speaker 1: just like I used to be at IBM. So we
- 0:26Speaker 1: have a lot of We kind of got a lot
- 0:28Speaker 1: of things in common. You know, Texas, he did the
- 0:31Speaker 1: corporate thing and all that good stuff. Now he is
- 0:33Speaker 1: a well known fisherman, something I cannot do. He's participated
- 0:38Speaker 1: in multiple professional fishing circuits. He's a indeed one of
- 0:42Speaker 1: the top people in the world. Five years ago. Since
- 0:45Speaker 1: he was five years old, he's been fishing. I remember
- 0:47Speaker 1: I started the Little Cane Baked Bank for fishing. That's
- 0:50Speaker 1: why I started in the business. His show has won
- 0:53Speaker 1: over thirty two awards total, including the multiple Telly Awards
- 0:57Speaker 1: in the Premier Honoring, the Premiers Honoring of Program an
- 1:00Speaker 1: Excellence in Television and Video please work with money making
- 1:03Speaker 1: conversations masterclass again. One of my dear friends is to
- 1:07Speaker 1: running green. How are you doing, sir? Rashawn? Is an
- 1:10Speaker 1: absolute pleasure to see you again. Man. You know I
- 1:13Speaker 1: always people like you, all right, I always gott I'm enjoying.
- 1:16Speaker 1: But I gotta play with the intro because you know
- 1:19Speaker 1: you're you're you're such a unique individual with your skills. Said,
- 1:22Speaker 1: because how many black fishermen we know, Like I said,
- 1:25Speaker 1: I fished. You know there's a black people like that fishing,
- 1:29Speaker 1: but professional black fisherman's that's a rare. Just like race
- 1:33Speaker 1: car driving, you know, it's like golfers. You know there's
- 1:36Speaker 1: a lot of black people out there golfer When you
- 1:38Speaker 1: turn on the TV, how many black people golfing? It's
- 1:41Speaker 1: a lot of people out there race cars. Only you
- 1:43Speaker 1: see is Bubba Wallace. And so it becomes a very
- 1:46Speaker 1: unique skill set because you can enjoy it. But when
- 1:51Speaker 1: you start going to that next level, what makes you
- 1:55Speaker 1: that unique African American talent or Black talent that's been
- 1:58Speaker 1: able to break that sea link? Well, I think one
- 2:02Speaker 1: of the things that is uh fishing is a universal language.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And if you understand how to navigate the world using
- 2:09Speaker 1: that universal language UM and understanding the needs or needs
- 2:14Speaker 1: no matter where you go and what you do, and
- 2:16Speaker 1: fishing is fishing. I think it helps you to figure
- 2:19Speaker 1: out how to win in this industry. And I've been
- 2:21Speaker 1: able to do that, and I'm so fortunate and blessed
- 2:24Speaker 1: um to be able to make a living doing it
- 2:27Speaker 1: and making a living. And so you know, we we
- 2:30Speaker 1: last time I interviewed was Smack dab and COVID, you know,
- 2:33Speaker 1: came out of the George Force crisis and so the
- 2:36Speaker 1: world was different. The world was different at that time.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And now we fast forward to two because I you know,
- 2:42Speaker 1: some I think this would be three different transitions. You
- 2:44Speaker 1: had the transition before George Floyd and COVID, Then you
- 2:47Speaker 1: had COVID and George Floyd, and then now we deal
- 2:50Speaker 1: with post George Floyd and still in the pandemic but
- 2:54Speaker 1: with restrictions involuntary involuntary. Can you walk us through those
- 2:59Speaker 1: different steps of your career and where you are right now? So,
- 3:04Speaker 1: pre George Floyd and and the crisis we had in
- 3:08Speaker 1: our country, it was a lot going on. And this
- 3:11Speaker 1: is a very unique industry and it's in that the
- 3:14Speaker 1: business model is similar to NASCAR, as you see folks
- 3:18Speaker 1: wearing a lot of patches and a lot of different
- 3:20Speaker 1: sponsors on their on their jersey, on their peril, and
- 3:24Speaker 1: even on their vehicle that they use, whether it's a
- 3:27Speaker 1: boat or whether it's a NASCAR car. So it's the
- 3:31Speaker 1: same in that sense, but it's also unique in the
- 3:33Speaker 1: sense that you see little sprinkles of minorities like myself
- 3:39Speaker 1: in the industry. UM So it can be seen as
- 3:43Speaker 1: a very unique thing. But my job is to more
- 3:46Speaker 1: so educate people on the history of fishing in America
- 3:50Speaker 1: because fishing in America goes through the hands of slaves
- 3:52Speaker 1: in America where we were a part of fishing, especially
- 3:57Speaker 1: African American females. A people don't know that um as
- 4:02Speaker 1: relates to fishing. So hence that kind of leads me
- 4:05Speaker 1: to my next point, which leads to my great grandma,
- 4:08Speaker 1: who is one generation removed from slavey in the nineteen
- 4:11Speaker 1: o six. Um taught me everything I know about fishing,
- 4:16Speaker 1: but taught me the history of it as well. Wow,
- 4:19Speaker 1: that's been amazing. So then you got into the COVID
- 4:22Speaker 1: run and what did you did? Did did COVID shut
- 4:24Speaker 1: down the fishing turn up the fishing circuit. It actually
- 4:28Speaker 1: didn't because here's the thing, Roshaun, no one had anything
- 4:32Speaker 1: else to do and could not do anything else but
- 4:35Speaker 1: go outside, and fishing was one of the things. As
- 4:38Speaker 1: a matter of fact, the fishing industry exploded. They couldn't
- 4:42Speaker 1: keep anything on the shelves. Although everything was back ordered,
- 4:45Speaker 1: people were fishing. More boats and engines were bought, and
- 4:49Speaker 1: even to this day the market is oversaturated with boats
- 4:53Speaker 1: and people still trying to get boats engines that are
- 4:57Speaker 1: back ordered. Because the remedy or or at the time
- 5:01Speaker 1: was just fishing. That's all we can do and be
- 5:04Speaker 1: safe and still be COVID friendly outside because you're six
- 5:09Speaker 1: ft apart the whole nine yards and uh, that was
- 5:12Speaker 1: the only thing to do. So a lot of folks
- 5:14Speaker 1: there was over a million new license issued just because
- 5:19Speaker 1: of fishing UM and folks who have never tried it,
- 5:22Speaker 1: they decided to give it a try. And then you've
- 5:24Speaker 1: got a certain percentage of folks it's stuck around um
- 5:28Speaker 1: to continue to fishing because they realized it's something that
- 5:31Speaker 1: I missed and I should have been doing. And that's
- 5:33Speaker 1: the thing about COVID. It was eliminated that we were
- 5:36Speaker 1: all able to make from the limit of COVID. And
- 5:40Speaker 1: what I mean by that is people were finding things
- 5:43Speaker 1: that they thought they couldn't do. People were writing, more
- 5:46Speaker 1: books were written, people were fishing more, people were enjoying
- 5:49Speaker 1: things that they didn't do previously because they had to
- 5:52Speaker 1: do it. When you're forced to do something, it's amazing
- 5:54Speaker 1: what the human spirit can do about So gelemen, why
- 5:58Speaker 1: do you have to have a license to fish? Well,
- 6:01Speaker 1: that's a good question, and my dad asked me that
- 6:04Speaker 1: question all the time, and I have to always rectify
- 6:07Speaker 1: that you gotta throw something back. Please, you can't do
- 6:09Speaker 1: this to me. What the reason is is because if
- 6:12Speaker 1: you did not allow or if you did not teach
- 6:15Speaker 1: people how to rationalize or or have conservation with fish,
- 6:21Speaker 1: people will take as many as they could. I have
- 6:24Speaker 1: seen times or people have caught thirty forty fifty fish
- 6:28Speaker 1: for what reason, and a lot of times just for
- 6:30Speaker 1: their own ego to say, look what I called. Here's
- 6:32Speaker 1: a picture of all the fish that I caught. But
- 6:34Speaker 1: if you did that and multiplied it times the people
- 6:38Speaker 1: that fish in the world, can you imagine if we
- 6:41Speaker 1: would have any resources left. There's places in other countries
- 6:46Speaker 1: that they don't have the same stipulations we have where
- 6:50Speaker 1: they actually you know, take advantage to a point where
- 6:54Speaker 1: almost extinct some species of fish. So if we don't
- 6:58Speaker 1: do that and learn, you know, help reproduce the fish,
- 7:03Speaker 1: then ultimately our kids kids can enjoy the thing we
- 7:06Speaker 1: love called fishing. So basically, by getting a license, it
- 7:09Speaker 1: allows you to fish, but fish with with some type
- 7:14Speaker 1: of conservation in mind. You just can't just load up
- 7:17Speaker 1: all the fish and walk out of are because because
- 7:20Speaker 1: somebody can come by and find you if you don't
- 7:23Speaker 1: have a license or stop you from fishing if you
- 7:25Speaker 1: don't have a license, correct, that is correct. As a
- 7:28Speaker 1: matter of fact, that even goes further than that. Sometimes
- 7:31Speaker 1: when you if you have a boat and you take
- 7:34Speaker 1: too many fish, they have the ability to take your boat,
- 7:39Speaker 1: to take your tackle everything. That's how important it is
- 7:43Speaker 1: for you to know what you're doing when you go
- 7:45Speaker 1: out and fish. Even if you're fishing on the bank,
- 7:46Speaker 1: people say, well, I'm not I'm fishing on the bank.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I don't need a license. You need a license as well,
- 7:51Speaker 1: and senior citizens typically don't need a license, but always
- 7:56Speaker 1: check your state. And then sometimes the adolescents maybe less
- 8:00Speaker 1: than ten or something to that effect. But every state
- 8:02Speaker 1: is different, so you always got to check and make sure.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I tend to believe to keep a lifetime license, so
- 8:08Speaker 1: I never have to worry about it unless I'm going
- 8:11Speaker 1: to another state. Because at the end of the day,
- 8:13Speaker 1: the worst feeling in the world that you'll never forget
- 8:16Speaker 1: is to have an officer come and you take your
- 8:22Speaker 1: court or sometimes even take all your equipment, which that
- 8:25Speaker 1: stuff can be expensive, or you can take you to jack.
- 8:27Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 8:31Speaker 1: with Rushan McDonald. Now let's return to Money Making Conversations
- 8:37Speaker 1: Master Class with Rushan McDonald. I'm speaking to Ronnie Green.
- 8:41Speaker 1: He is the chrismatic host of A Fishing Story with
- 8:44Speaker 1: Ronnie Green as show us one of the thirty two
- 8:46Speaker 1: Awards and as as well as a very elite uh
- 8:50Speaker 1: Telly Awards for the quality of the show. The creativity
- 8:54Speaker 1: is to show the programs of the show and when
- 8:56Speaker 1: you're when you're an African American and you venture out
- 8:58Speaker 1: into the world. I work for IBM, so I know
- 9:02Speaker 1: that was a world where you know, you look around,
- 9:03Speaker 1: it's not a world that's populated with it not an
- 9:05Speaker 1: African American, like any corporate job is, but you can
- 9:09Speaker 1: be treated different. People can feel that you're unique, that
- 9:12Speaker 1: you are able to be imployed in that particular fashion.
- 9:16Speaker 1: What is this, what's going? When did you finally get
- 9:18Speaker 1: comfortable out there running being a very unique member of
- 9:22Speaker 1: a very white group. I would say probably when I
- 9:28Speaker 1: was bass fishing. So you have different styles of fishing.
- 9:32Speaker 1: There's saltwater fishing, which is out in the ocean, and
- 9:35Speaker 1: then there's freshwater fishing, which is bass fishing. And bass
- 9:38Speaker 1: fishing is a very unique skill set because if you're
- 9:42Speaker 1: bass fishing, most of the time you're fishing with artificial baits.
- 9:45Speaker 1: And why is that important? Because if you have an
- 9:47Speaker 1: artificial bait versus a live bait, fish prefer the filet
- 9:50Speaker 1: min young versus the imitation. So it takes a very
- 9:53Speaker 1: unique skilled fisherman to imitate a live bait to force
- 9:57Speaker 1: a bass to eat. Some of that in bass fishing
- 10:00Speaker 1: rules the industry. So I felt like, if I can
- 10:03Speaker 1: actually be successful in what rules the industry, bass fishing
- 10:07Speaker 1: by fishing bass tournaments, then I think, uh, it con
- 10:12Speaker 1: turned into something big, not knowing that it would. So
- 10:16Speaker 1: how that happened was because of I spent more time
- 10:20Speaker 1: fishing after I lost my mother. Surprisingly, you know, we
- 10:24Speaker 1: never expected it, and ultimately it was the same. It's
- 10:28Speaker 1: like the COVID situation. You were forced in a position
- 10:31Speaker 1: where you had to figure out how to get therapy.
- 10:35Speaker 1: My therapy at the time fishing every single day after
- 10:38Speaker 1: losing my mother was fishing. I had time to think,
- 10:42Speaker 1: had time to reflect, had time to grieve, had a
- 10:45Speaker 1: lot of time because I was out there by myself fishing.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I lived on the lake at the time every single day,
- 10:52Speaker 1: ten twelve hours, sometimes not eating, just drinking a lot
- 10:55Speaker 1: of fluids, thinking about fishing. And ultimately, because of the
- 11:00Speaker 1: at it turned into a skill set that actually took
- 11:04Speaker 1: a quantum leap and start winning tournaments, not knowing that
- 11:07Speaker 1: the grieving process was helping me become more proficient at
- 11:10Speaker 1: as a professional fisherman. And I started getting sponsors because
- 11:13Speaker 1: I was winning, and then I started to believe that
- 11:16Speaker 1: I can really do this. And then I start traveling
- 11:18Speaker 1: around the country fishing these big tournaments with some of
- 11:20Speaker 1: the best in the entire world. And when you can
- 11:23Speaker 1: actually win and get a check doing that, and then
- 11:25Speaker 1: folks sponsors noticed you, you feel like maybe I can
- 11:29Speaker 1: do this, and ultimately it turned into something else. The
- 11:32Speaker 1: TV side came about because of the nature in which
- 11:37Speaker 1: that I communicated on stage in a charismatic manner. I
- 11:41Speaker 1: would actually leave a little inspirational an adult. And then also, uh,
- 11:46Speaker 1: just give someone suthing positive to to talk about when
- 11:49Speaker 1: most people would get on the stage and to talk
- 11:51Speaker 1: about all their sponsors and everybody wants something positive they
- 11:54Speaker 1: can hang onto and possibly marinate on later on. And
- 11:58Speaker 1: ultimately I did. And then a producer came up to
- 12:01Speaker 1: me and said, I think you can make a fantastic
- 12:03Speaker 1: TV host and the rest of history. Wow, now you
- 12:06Speaker 1: have like I go back as a kid. You know,
- 12:08Speaker 1: I was on the cane with the little cork putting
- 12:11Speaker 1: out there, you know, the little Mark Twain moment. You
- 12:13Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, just watching a little bass. I
- 12:15Speaker 1: think I was purchased what I was really catching all
- 12:18Speaker 1: the time. So let's let's go. Let's go through this
- 12:20Speaker 1: little education process. Because you said bash is the popular
- 12:24Speaker 1: popular circuit tournament. They have small wall bash and large mouthpaths.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I've called both. Then I've called catfish, which is you
- 12:33Speaker 1: gotta have gloves with them bad boys, because they will
- 12:35Speaker 1: cut you. They will cut you now. And then you
- 12:37Speaker 1: have the perch, and you have trout. I've caught all
- 12:40Speaker 1: these things, so let's let's go. What I call the
- 12:43Speaker 1: fish that that that that scares me and that I
- 12:46Speaker 1: have been cut grabbing this fish incorrectly is the catfish.
- 12:52Speaker 1: What makes the catfish such an interesting is a delicacy
- 12:55Speaker 1: on plates and restaurants, specially in the South. What makes
- 12:58Speaker 1: you such an interesting and how you go about catching
- 13:01Speaker 1: a catfish? You gotta understand a catfish a very slimy fish.
- 13:05Speaker 1: You don't see scales, So scales is one thing, and
- 13:08Speaker 1: it's also in a sense of scavenger, so it will
- 13:12Speaker 1: eat any and everything on the bottom of the lake.
- 13:15Speaker 1: So it also has on each side, as if I
- 13:19Speaker 1: was a catfish coming out of each side by its
- 13:23Speaker 1: uh gills, bones that has a little anecdota poison. And
- 13:28Speaker 1: then you have one coming out the back. So when
- 13:31Speaker 1: you grab it, most of the time, if this is
- 13:33Speaker 1: a catfish, you want to grab it from the front
- 13:36Speaker 1: underneath those storms. And then you never grab it from
- 13:41Speaker 1: the back because the back is where that other thorn
- 13:44Speaker 1: is and you hold onto a pretty tight there's a
- 13:47Speaker 1: bone there as well. If you hold on pretty tight,
- 13:50Speaker 1: it won't slip, because that's the other thing you usually
- 13:53Speaker 1: when it slips, it will fall, It hits a toe
- 13:56Speaker 1: and you'll never forget it, but it will life. You
- 13:58Speaker 1: never do it again. And I've been there, my great grandmother,
- 14:03Speaker 1: my dad, Boy, what you do at the end of
- 14:06Speaker 1: the day, there was some tough lessons learned, but you'll
- 14:09Speaker 1: never forget it, because that was our staple of fish
- 14:12Speaker 1: growing up, catfish my great grandmother, my dad Friday nights
- 14:16Speaker 1: a church, but we eat so much caffish. I found
- 14:19Speaker 1: out his caveng and like I said, that was my did.
- 14:22Speaker 1: We go out there and I cut my hand up
- 14:24Speaker 1: a many of the day trying to trying to crown though,
- 14:27Speaker 1: because as a kid, you don't really know and you
- 14:29Speaker 1: don't remember the lesson learned previously, and you get cut
- 14:33Speaker 1: up enough by that cat for you either gonna fear
- 14:34Speaker 1: it or you're gonna learn how to pick it up now.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And then that then perch, because I was always on
- 14:39Speaker 1: the bank fishing with my little cork perch, explained to
- 14:43Speaker 1: people what the Zacklys perch so purchase related to the bass,
- 14:46Speaker 1: and we call them bluegill. They're also called sheryl crackers.
- 14:50Speaker 1: So there's bluegills and they're shell crackers, and some of
- 14:52Speaker 1: them call them ready or there's so many different nicknames
- 14:55Speaker 1: for fish there. The official name is a bluegill, and
- 14:58Speaker 1: they call them perch as well. And they are also
- 15:01Speaker 1: a good fish for bass to eat. So they're about
- 15:05Speaker 1: a pan size and the pan fish is usually the
- 15:08Speaker 1: size of your line. O, there's so good. You gotta
- 15:12Speaker 1: scale him off. Now, you gotta scale him off. Now
- 15:14Speaker 1: you gotta get that knife and knock all those scales off. Now. Yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 1: but I use you for you know, professor, I'm a
- 15:22Speaker 1: little black. They don't believe in scaling everything. Look absolutely,
- 15:30Speaker 1: you know. I'm talking to Rodney gray one about good
- 15:33Speaker 1: dear friends and the business that it is unique because
- 15:36Speaker 1: it's a rarity to a talented African American fisherman. He
- 15:39Speaker 1: has a popular show called a Fishing Story with Running
- 15:42Speaker 1: Green that airs him. All the rokud, the dish, the
- 15:46Speaker 1: direct TV, all the all the show networks that you
- 15:49Speaker 1: can stream on is available to get his show. And
- 15:52Speaker 1: it's before I want I want to let everybody know
- 15:55Speaker 1: tell us exactly what a fishing Story is and then
- 15:58Speaker 1: i'n get back to talking about the small am off
- 16:00Speaker 1: bash law, about bath and the trout. So Efficiing Story
- 16:04Speaker 1: is a show that walks people through a personal life
- 16:09Speaker 1: of a person through the portal of efficient so the
- 16:12Speaker 1: highs and lows of life, and we've all had it,
- 16:15Speaker 1: and at the end of the day we see the
- 16:17Speaker 1: highs and lows and see how people have persevered, because
- 16:21Speaker 1: it's always a very unique thing to see someone that
- 16:24Speaker 1: have gone through the same thing you've gone through and
- 16:27Speaker 1: ultimately have come out on top. And we we highlight
- 16:30Speaker 1: people that have gone through tremendous life experiences on the
- 16:34Speaker 1: Fihing Story. And it's really important that people understand the
- 16:37Speaker 1: motivation behind relaxing relaxing. You know, we we we live
- 16:42Speaker 1: such a stressed life. And I you know you've been
- 16:44Speaker 1: by my house. I have a little pond if I
- 16:46Speaker 1: aco behind my property and that relaxes me, Ronnie. And
- 16:50Speaker 1: when I don't care high intensity is out there, I
- 16:53Speaker 1: get there and I just see that water, just the rippling.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I just see some minnots out there and it's to
- 16:59Speaker 1: the water swirl you the fishing Salt Me frog in
- 17:02Speaker 1: Salt Me. They went the other direction that see these
- 17:05Speaker 1: geese landing and it's just really relaxing. That is such
- 17:09Speaker 1: a great, uh therapeutic moment out there for you. It's
- 17:14Speaker 1: something you would recommend the people to experience on a
- 17:16Speaker 1: regular basis. Absolutely, Rachean. I think it's it's something about
- 17:21Speaker 1: we have a kinder shift to water, and nobody can
- 17:24Speaker 1: fully understand it and explain it. But at the end
- 17:27Speaker 1: of the day, when we are around water and we
- 17:29Speaker 1: go on vacation, even if just looking at water as
- 17:32Speaker 1: something about it, because if you think about it, not
- 17:35Speaker 1: to get too deep, but our body is made up
- 17:37Speaker 1: of majority of water. So it's a kindred ship because
- 17:40Speaker 1: you're relating to something that is you're developed by your
- 17:44Speaker 1: body is made up of. So I don't understand it totally,
- 17:47Speaker 1: but at the end of the day, it has a
- 17:48Speaker 1: therapeutic value that you can never put a price on. Yes,
- 17:52Speaker 1: a fishing store hosted by Running Green is. You can
- 17:54Speaker 1: catch it on the Outdoor Channel, World Fishing Network, NBC
- 17:58Speaker 1: Sports Bay Area, and the Armed Forces Networkers where all
- 18:02Speaker 1: it's a very popular show. They really takes you back.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Like I said when I say came came pro fishing
- 18:10Speaker 1: with the court mark Twain and you know exactly where
- 18:12Speaker 1: I was at right there. You know, that's a classic moment.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Now let's go to which I consider the one of
- 18:18Speaker 1: the prettiest fish is trout trout fishing, and then explain
- 18:23Speaker 1: how you get that, and then we're gonna go to
- 18:24Speaker 1: large mall bass and the small mall bass. Yes, sir, so,
- 18:28Speaker 1: trout is that's another very unique, beautiful species. There is
- 18:33Speaker 1: a saltwater trout what we call the ocean trout, and
- 18:36Speaker 1: then you have the freshwater trout found and typically streams,
- 18:39Speaker 1: so the beautiful streams where you see real shallow clear
- 18:43Speaker 1: water and most of the time the best way to
- 18:46Speaker 1: catch a trout of that magnitude is through fly fishing.
- 18:50Speaker 1: So that's another very unique skill set of fishing because
- 18:53Speaker 1: you're using a mainline and you see the guys just
- 18:57Speaker 1: whipping it and forth, and that is so relaxing because
- 19:01Speaker 1: you're around a lot of mountains. Typically you're around a
- 19:04Speaker 1: lot of We were just in uh Missouri bass Frow
- 19:08Speaker 1: Shops um doing a show with Johnny Morris, and one
- 19:11Speaker 1: of the things we did was fly fishing, and it
- 19:14Speaker 1: is so amazing to catch a fish on such a
- 19:19Speaker 1: small little fly that they can see hit the water
- 19:22Speaker 1: with all this moving water and as soon as it
- 19:24Speaker 1: comes by them, they hit it. It's a beautiful thing.
- 19:27Speaker 1: That's that's. That's that's so just constantly just feed it,
- 19:30Speaker 1: just constantly, just feed it into a certain area. That's that's.
- 19:33Speaker 1: That's amazing. We'll be right back with more Money Making
- 19:36Speaker 1: Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. Now let's return to Money
- 19:42Speaker 1: Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. Now, let's let's go
- 19:47Speaker 1: to the small moth bass, which I've caught a large
- 19:51Speaker 1: mouth bass. What is the difference between the two and
- 19:55Speaker 1: what makes them such a great a popular circuit fish.
- 20:00Speaker 1: They're both bass um in the bass family. But to
- 20:03Speaker 1: think about a small mouth bass, it lives in northern
- 20:07Speaker 1: cooler climates anywhere from northern Alabama on up north. And
- 20:13Speaker 1: that is probably poundful pound the toughest fish in freshwater. Uh.
- 20:19Speaker 1: You can see they have a larger tail than what
- 20:21Speaker 1: a large mouth basses. And then they have a smaller mouth,
- 20:25Speaker 1: much smaller mouth, but big girthy body. So they have
- 20:30Speaker 1: a lot of stealth um and lots of power. And
- 20:34Speaker 1: you will know when you have one on the flight
- 20:36Speaker 1: of your life. Man. That is something else, and of
- 20:39Speaker 1: course everybody's favorite, the large mouth bass. You know I
- 20:44Speaker 1: love them plus, yes, sir, And the reason is that
- 20:53Speaker 1: is the most I guess opportunists type predator. In fresh water.
- 20:59Speaker 1: You can have little baby ducks and I have seen
- 21:01Speaker 1: it in action. Unfortunately, going along with their mother. All
- 21:06Speaker 1: of a sudden, one of those just disappear because the
- 21:08Speaker 1: basket will hit him on top and take them under.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Their mouth is so large. Anything they think they can
- 21:13Speaker 1: get their mouth around, they will take it down. I
- 21:16Speaker 1: have seen them take baby rabbits that have fallen in
- 21:19Speaker 1: the water. I have seen vast take anything that they
- 21:22Speaker 1: think their mouth. Frogs are a favorite of them, and
- 21:25Speaker 1: of course bayfish so and that's what's so intriguing about
- 21:29Speaker 1: us chasing that green fish, because you can trick them
- 21:31Speaker 1: on top with a top water babe up and hit
- 21:34Speaker 1: it and it's a beautiful explosion. It's amazing fight. Or
- 21:38Speaker 1: you can catch them on a crank bay. You can
- 21:40Speaker 1: catch some all sorts of ways. But whatever it is,
- 21:42Speaker 1: you can trigger those latter lines on the side of
- 21:45Speaker 1: his body, her body, and I'll tell you what that thing,
- 21:49Speaker 1: when it feels the vibration, it will turn on it
- 21:52Speaker 1: and before you know it, it will be on on
- 21:55Speaker 1: your line. And the thing is fast. People don't realize
- 21:58Speaker 1: why is this person really so fast across top They
- 22:00Speaker 1: can go twelve miles an hour. That's a fast fish.
- 22:04Speaker 1: So and that's probably why we chase that green monster.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And it's like a thirteen billion dollar industry just chasing
- 22:13Speaker 1: that green fish. So I I gotta ask you, though,
- 22:17Speaker 1: what people I want to be like Mr Rodney Green?
- 22:20Speaker 1: How does one get into this business? It is not
- 22:23Speaker 1: an overnight process, but how does one start? It's a
- 22:27Speaker 1: very tricky thing and so there is no guarantees. You
- 22:30Speaker 1: have to be very careful. I would always say that
- 22:33Speaker 1: make sure you have your education before you do anything,
- 22:35Speaker 1: so you have a fallback plan. Um. But the way
- 22:38Speaker 1: it typically works is to fish tournaments, local tournaments. There
- 22:43Speaker 1: used to be salt water tournaments, but they only have
- 22:45Speaker 1: those larger massive tournaments like Selfish and that's teams that
- 22:50Speaker 1: have been together for many years. But on the bath side,
- 22:52Speaker 1: you can fish your local, local tournaments and what is
- 22:55Speaker 1: called the weekend series A V, A, BFL or even
- 23:00Speaker 1: the bass Master, which is what I still continue to
- 23:03Speaker 1: fish and keep my skills up. So there are several
- 23:06Speaker 1: ways to join it, and and then you move up
- 23:10Speaker 1: in the ranks based on how you finish, and you
- 23:13Speaker 1: keep fishing, and some people move up and they don't
- 23:16Speaker 1: want to leave. They just do it consistently. It's a
- 23:18Speaker 1: tough road. You're on the road a lot. If you
- 23:21Speaker 1: have a family, you're not gonna see them a lot.
- 23:22Speaker 1: It's similar to a military style of lifestyle. So there's
- 23:26Speaker 1: a lot you must give up and you must be
- 23:28Speaker 1: committed because there's gonna be some days you literally don't
- 23:31Speaker 1: catch fish. That's the nature fishing, and that's why we
- 23:34Speaker 1: love it because at the end of the day you
- 23:36Speaker 1: might get punched down and you know, knocked out by
- 23:39Speaker 1: the bass. And you come back the next day and
- 23:42Speaker 1: U t ko that fish. You know before you knew it,
- 23:44Speaker 1: you know the first cast, and that's why we love it. Well,
- 23:47Speaker 1: if you've had some of my friends on the show, Okay,
- 23:50Speaker 1: I remember if I left this show, because I'm telling
- 23:54Speaker 1: everybody you know running, I got brill You don't win
- 23:57Speaker 1: now this brother, why now I've been by my house
- 24:01Speaker 1: fixed and breakfast. He caught fish in my backyard. Then
- 24:06Speaker 1: Laville Crawford, he'd been on the show nephew, Timmy. He's
- 24:10Speaker 1: been on the show. All these people been on the shows,
- 24:13Speaker 1: every Sean McDonald. But I will not be a good
- 24:16Speaker 1: host to talk about the experience that they had on
- 24:19Speaker 1: your show. Lavere Crawford, we know it is a in
- 24:22Speaker 1: the comedy terms, is a food, Nephew, Tommy, is a food.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Talk about the experience of fishing with these two gentlemen.
- 24:31Speaker 1: They're very gifted in their craft. Now you got them
- 24:34Speaker 1: in your craft. Yes, it's amazing because they are very
- 24:39Speaker 1: good fishermen as well. Velle Crafford loves his bass fishing.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I don't know if people look at his social media,
- 24:45Speaker 1: but if you ever peek at his Instagram, there's gonna
- 24:47Speaker 1: be a bass showing up somewhere. He's gonna be in
- 24:50Speaker 1: a city. He'll find a little pond and have a
- 24:53Speaker 1: little rod, and he will find a pond and catch
- 24:56Speaker 1: him some fish. Hold it up like, Hey, I'm in Ohio.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I'm over here at this club and I'm actually catching
- 25:02Speaker 1: fish around the corner. Is a person that loves and
- 25:06Speaker 1: has a passion to fish. You didn't even know that.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I did not know that. Yes, and then, uh, Nephew Tommy,
- 25:14Speaker 1: you know I'm still waiting to pranking one day on fishing.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Like matter. Friend will be fishing together probably pretty quick.
- 25:20Speaker 1: We talked yesterday and uh, he's amazing fisherman. He loves inshore.
- 25:26Speaker 1: We did an offshore shoot and I'll tell you what
- 25:29Speaker 1: he We had it cooked on the spot and it
- 25:32Speaker 1: was amazing. So we had a chef on the boat
- 25:36Speaker 1: and it was incredible. And of course one of my
- 25:38Speaker 1: closest friends is aren't s J. That is a fool
- 25:41Speaker 1: and a half about that J. That's way too much
- 25:44Speaker 1: energy to be on the boats, way too much energy.
- 25:50Speaker 1: So he has and there was a little anecdote there,
- 25:53Speaker 1: there's a little trivia. He has actually helped me and
- 25:57Speaker 1: home my offshore saltwater fish skills. So you're always learning
- 26:02Speaker 1: something new and fishing and you'll never master the fishing
- 26:05Speaker 1: game totally because there's so many different ways to catch fish.
- 26:09Speaker 1: But he actually taught me a lot about all shore fishing.
- 26:12Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, I'll be with him Monday
- 26:14Speaker 1: with full four team gentlemen, a bunch of bucks brothers
- 26:19Speaker 1: get together man and we do this annual trip, this
- 26:23Speaker 1: fishing fund and fellowship on a hundred thirty five ft y'all,
- 26:26Speaker 1: and we have a chef and uh all we do
- 26:29Speaker 1: is fish and of course we're gonna clamb Absolutely, that's
- 26:33Speaker 1: the m O. And he's a good athlete too and
- 26:35Speaker 1: as well as as a farmer track star as well. So, sir,
- 26:39Speaker 1: so you had a lot of kinship out there with
- 26:41Speaker 1: these gentlemen. But again, a fishing story with Rodney Green
- 26:45Speaker 1: Runnie is always like a reminisce I hope when I
- 26:48Speaker 1: interview man, it's like I just it's just a natural
- 26:50Speaker 1: storytelling conversation. We have it on my show because you
- 26:53Speaker 1: are motivating. You are special, because you're you're you're an
- 26:57Speaker 1: effective talent, uh well known talent or star in an
- 27:02Speaker 1: area that not many people though our color, our stars.
- 27:05Speaker 1: So that makes you unique and special. Don't never forget
- 27:08Speaker 1: that and keep understanding that when you come on my show,
- 27:11Speaker 1: you're just a powerful motivational tool that I use to
- 27:13Speaker 1: encourage others to say you can do that too. Thank
- 27:16Speaker 1: you for coming on money making conversations about the class.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Thank you, ra Sean. I appreciate it so much. I
- 27:22Speaker 1: always remember leave with your gifts, keep winning. I'm your host,
- 27:25Speaker 1: Rashan McDonald. If you want to hear any of these
- 27:27Speaker 1: interviews always go to money Making Conversation dot com be
- 27:31Speaker 1: blasted
