- 0:50simply incredible this movie
- 0:53is utterly awesome i'm blinded by the awesomeness it does exactly what a sequel
- 1:00should it should be every bit as good as the first film plus more i am very
- 1:05proud to welcome back to talk about this their most awesome concoction in a thrilling,
- 1:13thrilling thrilling thrilling series of films welcome them now Joe Cornett and Alan.
- 1:28Music.
- 1:35Welcome back gentlemen to
- 1:39cinema yugin thank you
- 1:42thank you for having us thank you it's it's always always great to check out
- 1:48an alexander nefsky movie directed by joe joe cornet let me call him george
- 1:54cornet sorry joan cornet this george lazenby perhaps probably probably Oh, yeah.
- 2:01George, he's retired. I'm sorry, officially renounced. He's retired.
- 2:05He is, and you know what? I'm happy to say I sent him a nice little message,
- 2:08and by God, he responded and said thank you.
- 2:12What a wonderful, long career for a bloke who never really intended to.
- 2:18If you've seen the documentary Becoming Bond, you'll know that George never really intended to be.
- 2:23Recommended to anybody, yeah. Yeah. He never really intended to be a big star,
- 2:28but he kind of ended up that way.
- 2:31But you guys know all about being big stars.
- 2:34This is an incredible Western. Just when you thought Gunfight was impressive,
- 2:40everyone just took it up a level with this one.
- 2:43It's what you want in a sequel. It is the first film, but more than the first film.
- 2:47It is, you know, we don't have time to Josh here at all.
- 2:52It is absolutely incredible. You've got Don the Dragon Wilson in this,
- 2:56Cynthia Ross Rock, Matthias Hughes returns and.
- 3:02Man, I don't know how much to say about, you know, when you've got a winning
- 3:06formula, you're better off sticking to it.
- 3:09You guys have found the recipe, eh?
- 3:13Well, my producer and my personal Russian publicist is the mastermind behind all of this, really.
- 3:21You know, he's the guy that pulls it all together and pulls the strings and
- 3:25makes these fantastic strategic manoeuvres and, you know.
- 3:31Alex, I have to say, mate, I've been watching your movies now,
- 3:36as you know, for a while now.
- 3:37I've never seen you. You really went deep with this movie. There's a couple
- 3:41of scenes in this where I've never seen you go.
- 3:43So there's becoming an eloquence to your silence on screen. There is. You know?
- 3:52Thank you, Ken, and thank you, Draw, for compliments.
- 3:57I really think it's the best movie.
- 4:00My best movie to date as an actor and we can
- 4:04talk about producing we can talk about publicity we can
- 4:07talk about everything else but i should
- 4:10be honest with you kent and with your audience it's
- 4:15very important to have a great director enjoy my friend
- 4:18and he's great as a friend and he's a great as a co-star you
- 4:21saw chemistry we do have chemistry because we always
- 4:25have fun when we're making movies together but he's
- 4:29a great director and as a producer and as
- 4:33an actor i was really i was really
- 4:35lucky to have him so joe thank you my friend thank you thank you yes you're
- 4:41only as good as the people you work with and if you work with the best you you're
- 4:45bound to sort of pick up some of that the show goes along oh yeah this this
- 4:51movie starts with a bang it ends with a bang.
- 4:56But there's so much, I'm just going through my notes, there's so much I wrote
- 5:00down that I just enjoyed.
- 5:02I'll start with this. This has my, this is what I'll start with.
- 5:09This movie has, for my money, one of my favorite performances ever in an Alexander
- 5:16Nevsky movie with Alexander Nevsky directed by Joe Cornett.
- 5:20Sadly, Joe, you're not in the scene, but I won't spoil it because I know it's
- 5:24just come out because I want people to watch it.
- 5:27But it's a scene in the movie. It's a, I won't say it's a pivotal moment. It's a great moment.
- 5:34And it's in a graveyard, like all great moments in Westerns happen in graveyards.
- 5:41And you've found this guy, this Joe promised me a great villain last time we
- 5:47talked about these Westerns, and James Chalk, is it? Is that how you pronounce his name?
- 5:53James Chalk as really the scar of this action version of the Searchers, if you will.
- 6:00Very good, Ken. I like that.
- 6:03Phenomenally. I mean, he is so silently menacing. He reminds me of like Riccardo
- 6:08Montalban in like The Wrath of Khan, you know.
- 6:11When Nicholas Meyer said that, you know, a madman is more terrifying when he whispers.
- 6:17And because James doesn't really have a, I mean, he does sort of raise his voice,
- 6:21but his silence is so menacing.
- 6:25And, you know, hats off to Sean Murray for the great score where he's gone for
- 6:31this Morricone Hans Zimmer kind of mid-ground in there.
- 6:34A man who understands themes and and james has an incredibly menacing but an
- 6:42uneasy sort of theme to him which gives his character even more depth oh yeah
- 6:47that scene in the graveyard,
- 6:50where the line is the the great one-liner is uh what did i wrote it down here
- 6:55i made a promise to a friend to kill you that is that is the great moment that was like hands down.
- 7:06Just when I thought the movie wasn't going to get any better,
- 7:08that was like the little cherry on the sundae. I know it goes on after that.
- 7:12I'm not going to spoil what happens.
- 7:15But, yeah, that was just like a great Joe, a great directorial moment,
- 7:20Alex, great acting moment.
- 7:22Hats off to James Chalk for being a fantastic villain. I know he's not the only menace in this film.
- 7:28But hats off too to Sam Dobbins, who's another great actor in the piece,
- 7:33This John Fallon, who's the most enthusiastic undertaker I've ever seen.
- 7:37For sure. He beat everybody to the punch. He goes, I'm the only undertaker in this town.
- 7:43Yeah. I'm here to take away all the bodies.
- 7:47He's very dedicated. Let me put it that way. Yeah.
- 7:50So, yeah, tell me a little bit about that scene in the graveyard.
- 7:54That was just, I mean, it's so simple in a lot of ways, but sometimes the best
- 7:58scenes in Western... But it wasn't. But it wasn't. You're right.
- 8:02But it wasn't. simple for several reasons.
- 8:05And you're right, Joe is not in the scene as an actor, but he was as a director.
- 8:11And it was the start, I think, out of nowhere, suddenly it was raining,
- 8:18which basically brought more creepiness in that moment.
- 8:24And we also should mention our editor, great editor, Cody Miller.
- 8:29Yes. who, together with Joe, Joe, this was his studio, editing studio many times,
- 8:37and together we were able to extend those moments, those exact moments you're talking about.
- 8:44And they made it like a little standoff, like a standoff, kind of like a standoff,
- 8:52like a version of a standoff I had with Matthias Hughes in the first movie,
- 8:57Gunfighter, Trio Bravo.
- 9:01So for me, it's a matter of...
- 9:04It was fun. It was, again, it was huge fun.
- 9:08But don't forget that I was wearing my leather jacket.
- 9:11And it was still, even with those rain, it was super hot over there.
- 9:17And I think it was midday. And we started in the morning.
- 9:21Of course, I was tired and all sweaty and all of that.
- 9:26But I think it even made me to act better, to be more in the moment.
- 9:34And, of course, I mean, James Chalkin, I mean, he's a great actor. You want to kill him.
- 9:39When you watch the film, when your audience watch this film, they will understand.
- 9:44You want to kill him. So you just want to have this standoff with him.
- 9:49And, again, Dvore was there, and he was making sure that even when I'm just looking at the guy,
- 9:57not talking to the guy, just looking at the guy,
- 10:01I mean, I was still, authentic if
- 10:05we if i can say that my favorite english
- 10:08word so so i would look like
- 10:12a western hero like a hero from those spaghetti western so you're absolutely
- 10:18right you if you want to make something good you have to surround yourself with
- 10:23people who are who are as good and joy you know He's a great director and great actor, of course,
- 10:30but also great producer because it was him who brought Sam Wilkerson and his team on set.
- 10:36Sam was our director of photography, you know, and everyone else.
- 10:41It was his idea to shoot the movie again over there at Gallman's Gulch in Arizona.
- 10:49And I was just, you know, I was just enjoying it. Yeah, it was kind of hard, but I enjoyed it.
- 10:55Yes. joe i have a question about one particular moment i noticed that there's a scene in there when,
- 11:02after you and alex are ambushed by
- 11:07by the guys when you when you go looking yes and they they tie you up and when
- 11:15alex comes in you're already tied up but then you get away when you go in the
- 11:18back you get away from the guy
- 11:20who's holding you and you kick the gun he loses his gun out of his hand.
- 11:26I just want to know, did you actually catch that or was there a cut in between
- 11:31the moment when you escaped the guy at the back?
- 11:35Well, first of all, I'd like to say my hands were actually tied.
- 11:40Okay. I had to do that fight sequence with my wrists like this.
- 11:45Right, right, yeah, yeah.
- 11:46And I'm trying to remember the exact sequence.
- 11:51Business the action of picking up the gun
- 11:53it's like you you need him for like you hit him with your hands he loses the
- 11:58gun and as he loses he sort of goes into the air i just wanted to know if you
- 12:02actually caught that gun with your hands still tied up you know when you shoot
- 12:06him straight after you catch it well the way it's cut it looks like you caught the gun shot him in one,
- 12:12motion you know well of course to continue with my heroic image i will say yes
- 12:16that's okay that's It's great.
- 12:19It was just a great move. Just like, wow, he caught and fired in one motion.
- 12:24It was just... Tantor, I'll be honest with you. It almost happened that way.
- 12:29It almost happened that way? For all intents and purposes, yes.
- 12:32No. Yeah. I mean, you can... I got to say, that scene was made an absolute pleasure
- 12:38to do because Art Camacho, our fight coordinator,
- 12:44he was on this film and he's in this film. He plays one of the Comancheros.
- 12:50He plays the lead guy that goes after Ivan with a knife. Yeah,
- 12:53yeah. He's the guy that pulls the knife on you, yeah.
- 12:56Yeah, and that's not a good maneuver with this guy. No, no.
- 13:01I'd never go after this guy with a knife. Look, with the Terminator standing
- 13:04in front of her, don't throw stones at a man with a machine gun.
- 13:10But Art arranged that whole sequence, obviously. He did all the action sequences,
- 13:14But that particular one was really interesting to do.
- 13:19And in the first one, if you remember, I had that moment where I get all tired
- 13:24and pissed off that everything's going on and I can't do anything about it.
- 13:27I come out the swinging doors and I shoot three guys.
- 13:30Okay yeah this was been better because i got you know
- 13:33this physical contact with with this one
- 13:36actor who has been doing this for years and he
- 13:39was a gem to work with and he was so great in
- 13:42this and i'm like you know i i don't i
- 13:45don't want to hurt you and he's like i don't care
- 13:48you know it you know hurt me
- 13:51for real i can take it and and he was great he was
- 13:53so much fun and i had a blast doing that scene and
- 13:56that whole choreography when alexander is
- 14:00facing down these other guys and the way
- 14:03it all breaks down look at that scene again and it's like it's like operatic
- 14:09i mean it's it's wild and you know what i can't i keep saying this when i tell
- 14:15people about this movie and i talk about it on social media or whatever else
- 14:19or i go on stuff like this i always call it.
- 14:23Outrageous and I don't mean that in a bad way I mean it is
- 14:26outrageously action-packed and outrageously fun I mean it's so big oh yeah there's
- 14:32no I mean look you wouldn't want to you wouldn't want to trim it anymore like
- 14:36I mean I feel like this has been through you know a fairly long post-production process and.
- 14:44You know, there's nothing, I mean, I'm looking at my notes and usually after
- 14:49you watch a movie, you sort of sit back in.
- 14:51You know, there's nothing that I would, there's no scene that I would say that was not essential.
- 14:57Thank you. I mean, there's nothing that, oh, you know, sometimes you watch a
- 15:01movie and you go, well, that bit in the middle could have been trimmed.
- 15:05But anyway, listen, look, I'm a writer. I love dialogue.
- 15:09So my favourite scene, which I have to talk about since I got both of you here,
- 15:13is what I call the coffee scene.
- 15:16The two of you. That's a good one.
- 15:19Drinking coffee. Because the big scene stealer in the film, and one of my favourite
- 15:24performances, is her name, Titiana Naver?
- 15:29That's right. As La Apparition.
- 15:35Ellen T. Yes. She was absolutely incredible. She's got my favorite line,
- 15:40and kudos to your ever-faithful scribe, Craig Hammond.
- 15:46My favorite line in the movie is, I didn't expect to find coffee this fine in this godforsaken hell.
- 15:55That was my favorite line of the movie where she's like, yeah,
- 16:00I didn't expect to find coffee this fine in this godforsaken hell. It's a good one.
- 16:07That's a good line that's a button line that should be on a t-shirt or at least
- 16:13the slogan of my coffee shop when I open one you just gave me a great idea Kent
- 16:18for my next run of t-shirts,
- 16:21I'll do that and I'll send you one thank you for your compliment for Tatiana
- 16:27she will be very happy to hear thank you very much like I said to you she needs like her own film.
- 16:35It's kind of like a western version of Red Sonja, and you turn up like Arnold did, like Callaghan.
- 16:41Exactly. Because, yeah, who doesn't? Look, put it this way, she's the character
- 16:47that turned up that I was the most intrigued with, because.
- 16:50She's obviously got a history, a lot of backstory, which is...
- 16:55And she's also singing in the movie.
- 16:58It's her singing the title song in the end.
- 17:01It's her. Oh, that's awesome. Okay. Yes, it's her. Oh, wonderful. Well, there you go.
- 17:08That's her song. And again, thank you. Thank you for the compliment. And one more thing.
- 17:15I'm glad that you like the movie, but let me give Joe another compliment.
- 17:20Because he's very open-minded. And when I say open-minded, what you mentioned,
- 17:24you mentioned the length of the movie, right?
- 17:27Because movie is about 82 minutes or something like that with titles.
- 17:31And it's our third movie together.
- 17:35And you're always telling me, like, Alexander, we should make film run longer
- 17:42because Promise is a great film which he made before Gunfight at Rio Bravo.
- 17:46Promise is about two hours and it's a great film. and great drama. You got that on DVD.
- 17:53Exactly. It's out there, and it's popular.
- 17:57But we had these conversations, and Joe agreed that because we're making it
- 18:03more action-y, as you said, it's basically a different formula.
- 18:08And again, he could have told me, you know what, Alexander? No.
- 18:12Let's just at least have 90 or 92 minutes or 93 minutes, because of course we had more.
- 18:19Yeah, we had more. Those things that you like, and I like, Coffee City,
- 18:24it was three times longer.
- 18:26It was three times longer, you know. But Joe supported me with that idea.
- 18:32And I think that's another reason why this movie also works well as an action film.
- 18:38An action film. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
- 18:41Like that, you know. You know, it's what's beautiful about what you've created with this series.
- 18:48It is the best of the classical Western meets the contemporary action film.
- 18:54And it doesn't kind of, the beauty is the balance, right?
- 18:59It's not too heavily a classical Western with action scenes in it.
- 19:04And it's not an action movie with a Western flavour.
- 19:08It's a blend of the two. And that's tough to do. and you continue to do it successfully.
- 19:13So it's very exciting to see where, I mean, I know you're just coming off filming
- 19:20another West and this film, of course, ends with James Bond-ish thing, Your Hero Will Return.
- 19:28Talking about the heroes of Rio Bravo. But yeah, Joe, I have to say about your performance too.
- 19:35As I said, Alex, I thought the deepest I've ever seen.
- 19:39You went into Robert Shaw territory there for a little bit with the,
- 19:44I wrote it down so I wouldn't forget, the battle, the sunken road battle.
- 19:51Yeah. We had full split against the Greybacks. jacks
- 19:55there were 5 000 dead bodies on that
- 19:58road you know it made me think of the the indianapolis
- 20:02speech you know thanks for the robert shaw compliment i take
- 20:05that that's a that's quite coming from you it's
- 20:08something else i love it yeah he's got
- 20:11black eyes lifeless eyes that was fantastic
- 20:17that was i'll never put on a life jacket again that was a great another great
- 20:22that's why the coffee scene is one of my favorites sort of everything turns
- 20:25up it's got alex's like i think there's moments of silence in that scene alex
- 20:30where you're sort of just you look like you're leaning back a little bit you're
- 20:34resting your arms on your knees.
- 20:36And there's some looks that you give joe while you're listening to him that
- 20:40is just i mean it's good james lipton often used to talk about on the actor's
- 20:46studio the the the power some actors Actors can't do silence.
- 20:52He talked about Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, some actors that really do silence really well.
- 20:58They can sit there and you can see the wheels turning.
- 21:02You can see something going on behind the eyes. They're not just standing there
- 21:05staring off laconically into the distance doing nothing.
- 21:08And that's a great power you both have on screen and a great chemistry both of you carry. Thank you.
- 21:14Thank you. Thank you.
- 21:17What a triumphant, splendiferous, you know, it's action, it's Western.
- 21:25If it were a cereal, I'd eat it every morning and twice on Sundays for good measure.
- 21:31It is out right now. What is the streaming service called that is playing for free now on?
- 21:37It's in North America. It was just released in North America exclusively on Zoom or Play.
- 21:43Zoom or Play. Yes. Yes, it's free. It's free with ads.
- 21:48It's a new Tubi. I don't know if you know what Tubi is.
- 21:52And Tubi started this AVOD business when you can watch movies,
- 21:58studio movies, independent movies for free with ads.
- 22:01And when 20th century, at the time, 20th century pops, now it's 20th century,
- 22:06when they bought Tubi and started to push it, that's when NBCUniversal bought
- 22:12Zumo Play, and now it's part of NBCUniversal.
- 22:16It's about 30 million people, subscribers watching it.
- 22:20So we just gave them exclusive for three months and it's on Zoom or Play in
- 22:26the United States and Canada.
- 22:28And in three months, on November 1st, it will be on Video On Demand,
- 22:33on DVD, on all the digital platforms to rent and buy in the United States.
- 22:39But movies already released internationally in for example united kingdom it's
- 22:44a prime video movie it's also available on sky.
- 22:47I'm not sure about australia and new zealand we definitely we we do have a deal
- 22:52with australia and new zealand i just don't know if they release it or not yet
- 22:58but i will keep you posted and plus when when i have a when we have a dvd we
- 23:03bought me in draw of course we'll sign it and send it for your collection,
- 23:06so you will have another movie which will be made together.
- 23:11And by the way, by the way, let me congratulate you because I know that your
- 23:15new movie will be released in North America soon as well. That's over, right? Yes.
- 23:20Yeah, I was very shocked because I didn't think it was ever going to get a release
- 23:26because this was a film made at the end of 2020.
- 23:29It was October, November 2020, so it's been sitting there for a while now.
- 23:34Yeah, glad to see I I've, I've heard DVD and Blu-ray, so that'll be cool.
- 23:40I've never had something great Blu-ray before.
- 23:42And this is action horror, right? It's an action horror with Michael. Right.
- 23:46Michael, para vampire vampires.
- 23:49And yeah, there's some actually some really great, okay.
- 23:52I'm, I'm interested to see because he actually shot in a castle there that's
- 23:55up in Northern California and there's some wonderful.
- 24:00Natural cabins or something that's up in that part of the territory too and so yeah it's um.
- 24:08I i i guess i'm i'm just the same as you guys i mean you work on these things
- 24:14in in one capacity or another it's still a thrill at the end of the day to sit
- 24:19down and see how everybody's work how everyone who's contributed has put it
- 24:24all together and and see the end result hey.
- 24:27And I think all three of us we all
- 24:30really can show your audience that this
- 24:35all achievable it's achievable all
- 24:39your dreams can be achievable one way or another but you have to continue to
- 24:44push forward you know and that's what I have in common with Joe and that's what
- 24:48we have in common with you you know because it doesn't matter what's going on
- 24:53around us we'll continue to push forward,
- 24:56And we'll continue to enjoy ourselves on screen and movies of our friends on screen.
- 25:03And I hope we'll continue to push that positive message into the world.
- 25:09Yeah, no, it's all attainable. Persistence is the key.
- 25:14I mean, there's plenty of people that put a lot of effort in and fail or they
- 25:19don't see a payoff after a certain amount of time and they give up.
- 25:24I think that you have to adjust your goals as you go up the mountain because
- 25:31there's certain fences you just can't climb over by yourself.
- 25:34If you want to get somewhere fast,
- 25:36go alone. But if you want to go the farthest, you need to go together.
- 25:41You need a good team, good friends, good mates, and good experienced people
- 25:47to help you grow, learn, build.
- 25:49And you gentlemen have been tremendous friends and mentors to me and I continue
- 25:56to be thrilled and love your work so much.
- 26:00I'm happy to bring it to the audience.
- 26:03Australian audiences, do not despair.
- 26:05Taken from Rio Bravo and all the wonderful stuff that Alex Senefsky and Joe
- 26:10Cornett have out there in the world will be coming your way in one way or another.
- 26:16But as for right now you can you can watch it we will put the link in the description
- 26:22north american physical media release later in the year for all of us yes good
- 26:28luck gentlemen may all the success continue keep the the trilogy going i can't
- 26:34wait to see this new one what's
- 26:36the new one called the wild wild west the wild west alexander would you like
- 26:40this because Because it's a very, you're not going to, you, you have, you.
- 26:44You ain't seen nothing yet. Okay. Wow. What I think we should do in the end
- 26:51of the show, Joe should talk to you about his new book.
- 26:54Because we're in production of New Western, and of course we'll tell you everything
- 26:57when it's done, and it's super unusual, whatever.
- 27:00But Joe finished his new book. Joe, please tell a couple of words about your
- 27:05new book. Thank you, Alex.
- 27:07Okay, so I have a book coming out in the next month or two,
- 27:12and it is it is an
- 27:16omnibus of western tales oh
- 27:19okay and it's actually there's a
- 27:22novelized version of my first western feature-length screenplay which was called
- 27:29the prayer for the damned as you may recall that film right yes and so this
- 27:33is a this is a completely fresh approach to that it's very different from the
- 27:38movie so if you're familiar with the movie.
- 27:40Some people are some people love that movie but if
- 27:44you're familiar with the movie it's it takes a lot
- 27:47of deep dark twisted turns in the
- 27:49book version plus it's accompanied
- 27:52by four or five i can't remember now how many short stories that are also maybe
- 27:59loosely based on screen ideas i've had over the years or you know something
- 28:04i dashed off in one of my journal books and thought oh this is It's a good story.
- 28:09Anyway, they're all very interesting tales.
- 28:11Some of them are kind of creepy and mysterious and weird, and others are very
- 28:17traditional in the Western sense.
- 28:20So I think if you're a Western fan or not, you're going to enjoy this book.
- 28:25And it's called A Prayer for the Damned and Other Tales of the West. And I was lucky enough.
- 28:31Sadly, he has left us. But one of the last things my great legendary friend
- 28:38and sort of mentor Don Murray did for me was he wrote the forward,
- 28:44the introduction to my book.
- 28:46Splendid. And so we've included that in it as well.
- 28:51And in fact, I was just at a tribute to Don about a week or so ago where we had a bus stop.
- 28:57And I was Don's last director, if you remember.
- 29:01Yes. Probably. Anyway, what a thrill it was knowing that man.
- 29:06But he does the intro to my book. So that's kind of fun. There you are.
- 29:10Splendid. And where will that be available, Joe? Amazon and all the regular
- 29:14places? It should be all the usual suspects. It should be available on Amazon.
- 29:18It'll be available in a hardback, in a paperback.
- 29:24I'm told a Kindle. It will also have an audio book. Oh, okay.
- 29:28Are you narrating your own work?
- 29:32Nobody has asked me yet, Kent. Okay. But, you know, maybe I'll parade it.
- 29:38I mean, you're a good actor.
- 29:40I mean, you know, why hire someone else, I mean, to tell your own stories, man?
- 29:44Exactly. Thank you. I mean, if you wanted to sell a lot, of course, I'd say get a celebrity.
- 29:53But I mean, everyone's doing it.
- 29:56But yeah, that's great. So audio, paperback, hardcover, Kindle.
- 30:03Is there an official? I don't have an official release date yet,
- 30:08but it'll be sometime in the next month or two.
- 30:10Okay. All right. So possibly before October or the fall, as you call it over there?
- 30:17If everything comes together, yes. That's what I'm told.
- 30:21There you go. Check it out. Wow.
- 30:25When I sit in the company of very talented people, I somehow feel like I should
- 30:29be wearing a suit or something.
