- 2:23Speaker 1: doctor Eric Thomas, who has been known in many circles
- 2:26Speaker 1: and grew the famous e T the hip hop preacher
- 2:30Speaker 1: UH phenomenal Success. UH met him several times when I
- 2:34Speaker 1: was doing and UH producing Steve Harvey's mentoring cap in Dallas, Texas.
- 2:38Speaker 1: He would come down and motivate the young people to
- 2:42Speaker 1: a path of success. Bringing on Ed Gordon is important
- 2:45Speaker 1: to me because of the role he's played in UM
- 2:48Speaker 1: delivering UM information from the media and also how he's
- 2:52Speaker 1: been able to reinvent himself so many times over the
- 2:55Speaker 1: years in the path of success. And the reason I'm
- 2:59Speaker 1: bringing on that when to tell his story in the
- 3:01Speaker 1: in the short amount of time and hopefully you can
- 3:03Speaker 1: use that information so you can be inspired. Secondly, I
- 3:06Speaker 1: wanted to talk about the opportunity to be able to
- 3:09Speaker 1: communicate with Kenny baby Face Emmonds UM many several times,
- 3:13Speaker 1: seen it performed several times, but I really want you
- 3:17Speaker 1: to hear how great this guy really is. UM A
- 3:20Speaker 1: lot of people don't know because he's not. They just
- 3:23Speaker 1: they just think of these songs that you hear him sing.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Of his impact in the music industry today, you're gonna
- 3:29Speaker 1: hear an incredible guy who has delivered more than twenty
- 3:33Speaker 1: six number one R and B hits and eleven Grammys.
- 3:39Speaker 1: It's amazing, It's amazing, amazing. So with that being said,
- 3:44Speaker 1: let's get the show roll along. My next guest is
- 3:47Speaker 1: the epitome of hustle, drive, determination and success. His words
- 3:52Speaker 1: impact tens of millions of people, which is domestic and
- 3:55Speaker 1: international tours. E t. The hip hop Preacher has become
- 3:59Speaker 1: a global phenomenon. Please welcome to Money Making Conversations, Doctor
- 4:04Speaker 1: Eric Thomas. Money Making Conversation's gonna love it. Money Making Conversations.
- 4:11Speaker 1: What I wanted to head when I thought I want
- 4:13Speaker 1: to make money? Well, give you try. First of all,
- 4:16Speaker 1: how you doing, Eric Man, blessed man, no complaints. Man's
- 4:20Speaker 1: a great season. Well, this amazing that. You know, look
- 4:23Speaker 1: at your success and it's a journey. And a lot
- 4:26Speaker 1: of times when people come on board and I don't
- 4:28Speaker 1: want to call them bandwagon people, but you know, people
- 4:30Speaker 1: find out about your journey as you go along when
- 4:32Speaker 1: you talk about your journey, because we don't have two
- 4:34Speaker 1: breaks with you, because I want to talk about your
- 4:36Speaker 1: two upcoming eventually Entrepreneurship series as well as the State
- 4:40Speaker 1: State Control series, and I think thats are important. I
- 4:43Speaker 1: want to take my time with you because I'm introducing
- 4:46Speaker 1: you to a lot of my fan base, because your
- 4:48Speaker 1: fan base follows you. So it took me seven years
- 4:52Speaker 1: to get my undergraduate degree, it took you twelve. Yeah,
- 4:56Speaker 1: that was a journey for me because I tell people
- 4:58Speaker 1: I wasn't ready to get a degree for were years.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I didn't have the money to get a degree in
- 5:04Speaker 1: four years. Tell people your story. Yeah, I think for me, Um,
- 5:10Speaker 1: you know, like you said, I went to school because
- 5:12Speaker 1: my girl went to school, and so in the actuality,
- 5:16Speaker 1: I had graduated when I got accepted, you know, so
- 5:19Speaker 1: you know, my first two or three weeks of school,
- 5:22Speaker 1: I had already accomplished when I wanted to accomplish, you know.
- 5:26Speaker 1: So I was going to class, and as you know,
- 5:28Speaker 1: I started dealing with difficulties of you know, like you said, finances,
- 5:32Speaker 1: um class, you know, schedule, class time. I'm gonna just
- 5:36Speaker 1: be honest. It wasn't worth me staying you know, I
- 5:40Speaker 1: was just like, it's not worked. It like I could
- 5:41Speaker 1: go make money, you know. And I had come, unfortunately
- 5:44Speaker 1: from a city where you know, education was really you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: a high priority. People were working at four gym in Christman.
- 5:51Speaker 1: So it wasn't even like I was getting the afflication
- 5:53Speaker 1: for being at school. You know, nobody was sending the
- 5:56Speaker 1: awards or nobody was saying, you know, sending the care packages.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Nobody was putting money on my bill. It was like, oh,
- 6:02Speaker 1: you're in school. That's a good thing, but you probably
- 6:04Speaker 1: don't think you're gonna finish anyway. So you know, after
- 6:08Speaker 1: taking all of the video courses, I've done decent, so
- 6:11Speaker 1: my g p A was decent. But then when I
- 6:13Speaker 1: started taking real classes, it took u I guess you know,
- 6:16Speaker 1: you get probation, extending probation, final probation took a couple
- 6:23Speaker 1: of semesters before you know what, I'm saying that the
- 6:25Speaker 1: real deal. Holy to it, like you gotta go. And
- 6:27Speaker 1: it didn't bother because I was like, yo, I'm not
- 6:29Speaker 1: here to school, you know that I'm here for my girl,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know, and then we end up getting buried. After
- 6:34Speaker 1: my freshman year, I was like, yo, you know. So
- 6:38Speaker 1: I end up leaving, started my career and speaking and
- 6:41Speaker 1: making good money speaking. You know, I wasn't freak, but
- 6:44Speaker 1: I was not money, you know, having nice part and
- 6:47Speaker 1: you know, me and my wife be able to just
- 6:50Speaker 1: like the past, Eric, you're starting to break up. Eric,
- 6:55Speaker 1: you're starting to break up a little bit. Okay, I'm sorry.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Can you hear me? Now? I can clearly that. Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 1: So I had a pastor who said, look, man, it's
- 7:02Speaker 1: saying about getting a degree, Like you don't need no degree,
- 7:05Speaker 1: this is about finishing. Your father didn't finish anything. And
- 7:09Speaker 1: I'm like, you do you know my father what I'm saying,
- 7:11Speaker 1: how can you say? You know? He said, well, he
- 7:12Speaker 1: didn't finish. He didn't take care of you. You know,
- 7:14Speaker 1: he didn't finish that. So I don't want you to
- 7:16Speaker 1: have this habit of not finishing stuff. So he was like,
- 7:19Speaker 1: you need to go not for money, you know, not
- 7:21Speaker 1: for a degree, but you need to go so that
- 7:23Speaker 1: in your mind you started something, you finished something. And
- 7:26Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, I got it, you know, So
- 7:28Speaker 1: I just went back because he told me to go back. So, yeah,
- 7:31Speaker 1: my my journey, man was I didn't go to school
- 7:33Speaker 1: for school. I was never a real academic kid. You know.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I was always good with communication, good with my mouth.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You know. I went out in the world man, and
- 7:42Speaker 1: start doing my thing. But like I said, at some
- 7:44Speaker 1: point when I had my son, I didn't want him
- 7:47Speaker 1: to be a high school dropout. Father had dropped out,
- 7:49Speaker 1: my grandfather dropped out, and I didn't want four generations
- 7:52Speaker 1: of drop out. So I just decided to go back
- 7:55Speaker 1: and get this degree so that I could be an
- 7:57Speaker 1: example to my son. Dr I'm calling your doctor because
- 8:00Speaker 1: you're a PhD. Dr Derick Thomas. When you when you
- 8:04Speaker 1: do do do just your Does your failures help in
- 8:07Speaker 1: motivating people to success? Yeah, I'm would be real man.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I think sometimes in life, you know, people they don't
- 8:14Speaker 1: want to fail. But I think when you go through
- 8:16Speaker 1: life that you don't fail and like just a massive
- 8:19Speaker 1: success time, it's difficult to relate to common people. So
- 8:23Speaker 1: I think what my failures have done, even though I
- 8:25Speaker 1: didn't want to fail, I think what my failures have
- 8:28Speaker 1: done is give me a unique tone. There's a tone
- 8:30Speaker 1: in my points where people are like, yo, he's not
- 8:32Speaker 1: talking at me. You know, he's not a goodie two shoe,
- 8:35Speaker 1: He's not you know He's not acting as if you
- 8:37Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, he's better than me. He's speaking
- 8:39Speaker 1: to me as if he is me me. Why Yeah,
- 8:42Speaker 1: because I did fail. You know I'm saying. I didn't
- 8:45Speaker 1: take me twelve years. I did put a flunk a
- 8:47Speaker 1: lot of classes. I know what it's like to be humiliated,
- 8:50Speaker 1: not want to call my parents what I'm doing, or
- 8:53Speaker 1: beat people back in my hometown like school, you have
- 8:56Speaker 1: finished yet, So I think my failure is actually connected
- 8:58Speaker 1: to people in a Ain't that when you have not failed,
- 9:02Speaker 1: you cannot connect with people. And I think that's important
- 9:04Speaker 1: because you you're letting people know life it's not perfect.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And this is the This is getting back on the
- 9:08Speaker 1: horts talk. You know when you're hearts, throw you off,
- 9:10Speaker 1: get back on the horse. Now. You have too serious
- 9:14Speaker 1: that coming up, and I miss titled one of them.
- 9:15Speaker 1: One is the entrepreneurs Shies Entrepreneurship series, Take Control You
- 9:19Speaker 1: Owe You, and the other one is which will be
- 9:22Speaker 1: in Detroit offic seven and then you also haven't Washington,
- 9:26Speaker 1: d c uh September two. To stay ready now now
- 9:30Speaker 1: I have two minutes lefting this break, and I want
- 9:32Speaker 1: to start on the entrepreneurship serious. I'm not asking you
- 9:34Speaker 1: to give your series away. Just tell people what to
- 9:37Speaker 1: expect and why are you doing that series and why
- 9:39Speaker 1: they should sign up. Yeah, I'm doing it because you know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: a lot of people are telling people you can only
- 9:44Speaker 1: make money if you sell real estate, you know, if
- 9:47Speaker 1: you sell cars, if you you know network marketing, you know.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And I'm telling people you are brand and I want
- 9:53Speaker 1: to show you how to sell you. You you you
- 9:55Speaker 1: have a gift inside of you. You know. So if
- 9:57Speaker 1: you if you're not a traditional salesman, baby, it's because
- 10:01Speaker 1: you're not passionate about but I'm gonna show you that
- 10:03Speaker 1: you have a gift inside of you, and your gift
- 10:05Speaker 1: can make room for you. Now, it's interesting because they're
- 10:09Speaker 1: the narrative nowadays. I hear that a lot your passion,
- 10:12Speaker 1: your gift, you know, But doesn't that coup with a
- 10:15Speaker 1: plan doctor? Oh? Absolutely, And that's what we're gonna talk about.
- 10:20Speaker 1: We're gonna show you how to get it out of you,
- 10:22Speaker 1: and then we're gonna show you how to get it
- 10:24Speaker 1: to the people. You know, but we're gonna show you
- 10:26Speaker 1: how to do it consistently. So it's not a hobby anymore.
- 10:28Speaker 1: That like you just said. Without that plan, it's definitely
- 10:31Speaker 1: not gonna happen. We're gonna show you because a lot
- 10:33Speaker 1: of people are like, yoh, man, I got this dream.
- 10:35Speaker 1: That's cute. You know, I got this big picture. I'll
- 10:37Speaker 1: see that's cute. But we gotta take that big puzzle
- 10:39Speaker 1: and we gotta break it down the manageable pieces, you know.
- 10:42Speaker 1: That's what we're gonna show. People like, yo, yeah, but
- 10:44Speaker 1: start on the edges or something, or notice all the blue,
- 10:47Speaker 1: all the red, and start putting the orange together, you know.
- 10:49Speaker 1: But take these little small steps, these little small winds,
- 10:52Speaker 1: and they create that bigger picture. So absolutely, we're gonna
- 10:55Speaker 1: break this thing down in twenty four hours and seven days,
- 10:58Speaker 1: in thirty days, days days, you know. So some Eric,
- 11:04Speaker 1: the more you talk, man, the more motivating that voice gets. Man.
- 11:08Speaker 1: You know, you know he's like, you're like, got in
- 11:09Speaker 1: the car. Now you're in the h O V lane? Now, brother, Yeah,
- 11:13Speaker 1: they opened me up. No, No, we're good, now we're
- 11:18Speaker 1: good now. Now the Detroit Show, let me just break
- 11:21Speaker 1: it down to everybody. What's really happening here. It's called
- 11:23Speaker 1: the entrepreneurship series Take Control, You Owe You, which I
- 11:27Speaker 1: laid like it because he's putting the on this on
- 11:29Speaker 1: you and you have and it's broken down into categories.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Come to learn the tone, the tools you need that's
- 11:35Speaker 1: one category. Monetize your gift that's one category. Create a
- 11:40Speaker 1: six figure income, expand your platform, increase the visibility, execute
- 11:49Speaker 1: on your ideas, stay self motivated. That's what take control.
- 11:54Speaker 1: You owe you because really you're letting everybody. You're empowering
- 11:57Speaker 1: a person that comes to that entrepreneurship serious, correct, doctor, Absolutely?
- 12:01Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely, I mean that's exactly what we're doing. Here's
- 12:05Speaker 1: what we're saying. Because most people think they got to
- 12:07Speaker 1: go buy program and I'm not saying that you know
- 12:10Speaker 1: that's that's not for some people. But you don't always
- 12:13Speaker 1: have to go buy something within you. You know what
- 12:15Speaker 1: I'm saying, It's in you. And that's why I say
- 12:17Speaker 1: you owe you. You owe it to yourself. You owe
- 12:20Speaker 1: it to yourself to stop, you know, letting yourself down,
- 12:23Speaker 1: not reaching your full potential, not seeing the gifts that
- 12:26Speaker 1: you have. You can make money, like you could be
- 12:29Speaker 1: valuable to somebody else, like you could be a product
- 12:31Speaker 1: Sneakers as a product, Pepsi, Coola, Lazy potential like you
- 12:35Speaker 1: got something in you. You have units insiety you and
- 12:38Speaker 1: we just want to show you how to identify that,
- 12:41Speaker 1: how to bring that out, like you said, how to
- 12:43Speaker 1: put a plan together so you can do that thing
- 12:45Speaker 1: for the rest of your life. Yeah, because a lot
- 12:47Speaker 1: of people do that, they forget that plan, you know.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And I have a series that I created going on
- 12:52Speaker 1: a month now, it's called Faith in Business and being
- 12:54Speaker 1: that you are a pastor, that you understand that how
- 12:57Speaker 1: faith in business, how the roles der side and you know,
- 13:01Speaker 1: connect connect And with that, with that being said, how
- 13:06Speaker 1: does that player role in who you are today? Faith?
- 13:09Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm saying, I'm saying, you know, at some point,
- 13:12Speaker 1: we all have seen, you know, in our best days,
- 13:15Speaker 1: where we could be, you know, in our best days,
- 13:18Speaker 1: we've seen what we're capable of. We've all dreamed and
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know, and people poured into us and said, man,
- 13:25Speaker 1: you could do this, and you could be that. You know,
- 13:27Speaker 1: and that, and let me tell you something that is
- 13:29Speaker 1: so invigorating. That's what energizing. Then you go through life,
- 13:34Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. You go through life and
- 13:36Speaker 1: and and and and something happens to your child or
- 13:39Speaker 1: I was just talking to a good friend of mine,
- 13:41Speaker 1: you know, who got a divorce after you know, his
- 13:43Speaker 1: wife had a miscarriage, and he was just like, y'all
- 13:44Speaker 1: gonna be real. I just emotionally she went in the funk.
- 13:47Speaker 1: She was depressed. I didn't know how to man, you
- 13:49Speaker 1: need faith to get through that kind of stuff. Cancer
- 13:52Speaker 1: my wife got and mess like, we needed faith to
- 13:55Speaker 1: know that this is not the end. This is just
- 13:57Speaker 1: the beginning. You know, when we was running the business
- 14:00Speaker 1: and we weren't making fifty six. We need to be
- 14:02Speaker 1: able to see in the dark what we saw in
- 14:04Speaker 1: the light. Going. Faith is important because it's the evidence
- 14:09Speaker 1: of things by seeing that. It's that hope. It's not
- 14:12Speaker 1: tangible where you can pick it up. Being in the back.
- 14:15Speaker 1: That's saying like, yo, you saw it, didn't touch it.
- 14:18Speaker 1: You touch it in your mind, you touch it in
- 14:20Speaker 1: your dreams, you touched in your soul. So so if
- 14:22Speaker 1: you just keep going one day, you're gonna touch you tangibly.
- 14:25Speaker 1: So yeah, for me, man, faith is everything because it's
- 14:28Speaker 1: the fuel that in the dark. It's the light, flickering
- 14:33Speaker 1: light and hope in the dark. That that that that
- 14:36Speaker 1: that when you don't have evidence, So yeah, man, faith
- 14:39Speaker 1: is so so critical to our success, ladies and gentlemen.
- 14:42Speaker 1: He's coming to trot Detroit, Michigan. He's coming to Troit
- 14:46Speaker 1: August twenty seven. He's coming. Dr Eric Thomas is coming.
- 14:50Speaker 1: This is just this the to two, the two two
- 14:53Speaker 1: is thought on the end of the day. But August

- 14:59Speaker 1: observe your spot. Like the way he said, reserve your spot,

- 16:45Speaker 1: d C. Now that's a little bit different show than
- 16:48Speaker 1: you're doing in Detroit. Why yeah, yeah, yeah. And you
- 16:51Speaker 1: know it's because people need you know, everybody's different. People
- 16:55Speaker 1: are different stages of life, you know, and so we
- 16:58Speaker 1: need to meet them where they are to ask some
- 17:00Speaker 1: people who you know what I'm saying, they're they're not
- 17:02Speaker 1: making no money at all. And some people who have
- 17:04Speaker 1: six figures, seven figures in them and they let's just
- 17:07Speaker 1: be honest. They have not been exposed. Like I've been blessed.
- 17:11Speaker 1: You know, I've gotten with Fortune five D companies. I've
- 17:13Speaker 1: been with Warren Buffet, Dan Gilbert. I have a relationship
- 17:16Speaker 1: with some of these guys, and I have access to
- 17:19Speaker 1: some of the most phenomenal mind some of the most
- 17:23Speaker 1: phenomenal skills, and they passed this stuff down to people
- 17:26Speaker 1: in their circle. And so I've been blessed to get
- 17:29Speaker 1: some of this information. And what I wanna do is,
- 17:32Speaker 1: I don't want to keep it to myself. I want
- 17:34Speaker 1: to give some of the stuff I learned sitting in
- 17:36Speaker 1: the room with Warm Buffet, some of the stuff I've
- 17:38Speaker 1: learned going through trainings with you know, the Quick and
- 17:40Speaker 1: Long CEO s uh, you know, being able to work
- 17:43Speaker 1: with the owners of the Cavaliers. Like, I want to
- 17:45Speaker 1: give away some of those secrets. And I ain't even
- 17:47Speaker 1: gonna say secret. People just have been exposed. And so
- 17:50Speaker 1: that some people are already making money, but they did
- 17:52Speaker 1: a glass ceiling because they haven't been exposed to some
- 17:55Speaker 1: of the next level stuff. It's funny. I was talking
- 17:58Speaker 1: to a friend of mine. He was saying about to
- 18:00Speaker 1: tax stuff. You know, man, I don't know if I
- 18:02Speaker 1: should do this or that. I said, look, it's a book,
- 18:04Speaker 1: we're gonna read it. In the book, it's tax break.
- 18:06Speaker 1: It's just the way American society is set up. You
- 18:08Speaker 1: don't have to be nervous, you don't have to work.
- 18:10Speaker 1: They just they set certain things up for so once
- 18:13Speaker 1: you expose. And so I want to give those people
- 18:16Speaker 1: who are already doing their thing and they need to
- 18:18Speaker 1: stay ready. They need to stay ready for the next
- 18:20Speaker 1: opportunity that they need to get to another level of influence.
- 18:24Speaker 1: They need a little bit more impact, they need to
- 18:26Speaker 1: meet a different circle of influence. That's what this show
- 18:29Speaker 1: is all about, putting them in that position to stay
- 18:32Speaker 1: ready for what's next. You got something great now, but look,
- 18:35Speaker 1: stay ready for that next you know opportunity that's coming.
- 18:38Speaker 1: And and I mean that stay ready on a lot
- 18:40Speaker 1: of platforms like like like because I know I'm losing
- 18:43Speaker 1: weight because I know something about to happen for me
- 18:45Speaker 1: in the media. So I know I gotta lose that weight.
- 18:48Speaker 1: You know, I'm saying, I know I gotta lift a
- 18:50Speaker 1: few weights because I'm about to travel a little bit more.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I gotta be ready to stay ready and I think
- 18:54Speaker 1: that when people need to understand stay ready, it's a
- 18:57Speaker 1: plan that you are saying that I want to be successful.
- 19:01Speaker 1: That's what stay ready by. Everybody has that starting line,
- 19:04Speaker 1: but a lot of people don't want to walk up
- 19:05Speaker 1: to the starting line. And that's what stay ready is
- 19:08Speaker 1: all about. All he's trying to tell everybody who's listening
- 19:11Speaker 1: to watching is this, you have an opportunity to be successful,
- 19:16Speaker 1: and things are preparing you to be successful, but you
- 19:19Speaker 1: have a general tendency to avoid it because guess what,
- 19:23Speaker 1: there's work involved in preparation. There's work involved in taking
- 19:27Speaker 1: advantage of an opportunity. That's what stay ready is all about.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And it just birds me up when I run into
- 19:34Speaker 1: people who are talented, I run into people who say
- 19:37Speaker 1: I'll never be I'll never be with I'm gonna be
- 19:40Speaker 1: what I'm gonna be because they have not even taken
- 19:43Speaker 1: the time to find out what they can be. They
- 19:47Speaker 1: have not taken the time to change their goals and
- 19:50Speaker 1: their expectations. They have fallen into the narrative of I'm
- 19:54Speaker 1: gonna be what I'm gonna be, and stay ready. If
- 19:57Speaker 1: you go to this thing, I walked into it, I
- 19:59Speaker 1: was in I was invited stand in the back of
- 20:01Speaker 1: the room and guess what I thought. I was ready
- 20:04Speaker 1: and I learned some things. That's the great That's the
- 20:08Speaker 1: great thing about what he's telling everybody. Dr Eric Thomas
- 20:11Speaker 1: is telling everybody. Look, just come and grab some extra nuggets.
- 20:17Speaker 1: You can go from four to five to six to
- 20:20Speaker 1: seven figure incomes. Don't ever think you know enough. I
- 20:24Speaker 1: always say this, I wake up dumb. I tell people
- 20:28Speaker 1: all the time. I wake up dumb. So I am
- 20:30Speaker 1: willing to accept information. See if you wake up smart,
- 20:35Speaker 1: did you will have a genial tendency to say, I
- 20:38Speaker 1: don't need to know anything else. I don't need to
- 20:40Speaker 1: know anybody else. Engagement that would make me more successful.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Don't sell the standard, or I'll tell you what thing
- 20:48Speaker 1: I'm teaching. My man at Amazon, Jeff, he was for
- 20:52Speaker 1: six hours the richest man in the world. Six hours.
- 20:57Speaker 1: You don't think he wanted to get back there. Ain't
- 21:00Speaker 1: that something? Six hours? You don't think he want to
- 21:03Speaker 1: get back? My man in Facebook, he on Instagram he
- 21:08Speaker 1: wants to buy moll stuff. It's Amazon, both Whole foods.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Do you understand what we're saying? This is what to
- 21:14Speaker 1: Stay Ready conference is about. It's about taking your level
- 21:19Speaker 1: and en showing that what he's asking you do. When
- 21:21Speaker 1: I say he, I'm talking about Dr Eric Thomas asking
- 21:24Speaker 1: you this, stay ready because there are opportunities out there
- 21:29Speaker 1: for you that they are blessings. Understand faith in business.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Change your narrative to be opportunistic. Yeah, now, now here's
- 21:42Speaker 1: the deal. You got more. You've got people on this show.
- 21:45Speaker 1: They're a part of the show that are very important,
- 21:48Speaker 1: starting with your host Willie Moore Junior. Who old does
- 21:52Speaker 1: he play? Yeah? So so Willie Moore? Is you know
- 21:56Speaker 1: the guy I was sleeping in the basement, you know,
- 21:59Speaker 1: and sleeping in the basement Mary just in a just
- 22:03Speaker 1: in a funk like y'a'll not supposed to be here.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Went from you know, being an R and B what
- 22:08Speaker 1: he calls himself a B list R and B didn't
- 22:11Speaker 1: make it to the A list and lost everything. But
- 22:14Speaker 1: there are people who think, like, yo, once I get there,
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm there. It's not the truth. Once you get there,
- 22:18Speaker 1: on me, you're gonna always be there. He started all
- 22:20Speaker 1: over again and reinvented himself. So so for those of
- 22:24Speaker 1: you who need to reinvent yourself. You made it, didn't
- 22:27Speaker 1: make it as far as you thought you would. You
- 22:29Speaker 1: fail rock Bottom. He's gonna show you how to reinvent yourself.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Then you have David Chains. Yeah, David Shams was working
- 22:37Speaker 1: at the cheesecake factory. Yeah, we had a conversation. I said,
- 22:42Speaker 1: David Man, come on, bro, you got take control the
- 22:45Speaker 1: Entrepreneur series. He was the first one I sat down
- 22:47Speaker 1: when and say you got something in you you need
- 22:50Speaker 1: to sell you. You need to be selling dishes at
- 22:53Speaker 1: the at the cheesecake fact you have you an entrepreneur.
- 22:56Speaker 1: You need to be selling these teachers that you have
- 22:58Speaker 1: taking serious, stop doing it time, stop hustling and turning
- 23:02Speaker 1: into a career. And that's what David saying, Gonna show
- 23:05Speaker 1: you how to go from working a nine to five
- 23:07Speaker 1: job that you can't stand to create your own enterprise. Okay, cool.
- 23:11Speaker 1: So you had Will in the basement, a very relatable
- 23:15Speaker 1: person who knows that person who kind of like what
- 23:18Speaker 1: do I go now? Then you raised to David Shan's
- 23:21Speaker 1: who's working at nine You know, I don't like it?
- 23:23Speaker 1: What are you working? Because guess what, it's a check.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Then you go to Jeremy Anderson. What is Jeffy Anderson
- 23:30Speaker 1: bringing to the table at the Stay Ready Conference, Washington,
- 23:34Speaker 1: d C. September two. So here is Jeremy, a kid
- 23:37Speaker 1: who grew up man two parents, you know, grew up
- 23:41Speaker 1: in a middle class, got caught up man videos and
- 23:46Speaker 1: you know, trying to be something. He was at it
- 23:48Speaker 1: before you know it. He's selling drugs, you know, he
- 23:52Speaker 1: in trouble with the law, running you know, he running
- 23:55Speaker 1: with circles that he shouldn't be running with. And then
- 23:57Speaker 1: he end up getting a call from God and saying,
- 23:59Speaker 1: come on something. Uh, I'm gonna need you to do
- 24:01Speaker 1: what I call you to do. Now he is married
- 24:04Speaker 1: kids in the school districts and going back to the
- 24:07Speaker 1: prisons and youth contention center telling kids you'll find your
- 24:10Speaker 1: identity and you be you now. The last one. Johnson, Yeah,
- 24:18Speaker 1: Inkie Johnson, man, what can I say? You know? He
- 24:21Speaker 1: was man, Inky was Inky was a couple of weeks
- 24:24Speaker 1: from the NFL first round pick in the NFL, about
- 24:28Speaker 1: to be a multi millionaire, you know, and got an
- 24:32Speaker 1: injury that was supposed to take his life. Kie Johnson
- 24:35Speaker 1: represents resilience, you know. Inky Johnson represents hard. Inkie Johnson
- 24:41Speaker 1: represents getting through whatever he's supposed to lost his life.
- 24:44Speaker 1: But those of you were cancer, those of you were
- 24:47Speaker 1: chronic illnesses, those of you experienced last he looked, he
- 24:50Speaker 1: looked lost in the faith and created an enterprise and
- 24:54Speaker 1: became one of the top speakers in the world. So
- 24:57Speaker 1: he just talked about overcoming any adversity and not making
- 25:00Speaker 1: any excuses for rising like Prez that boy, keep rising
- 25:04Speaker 1: to the top. And with that being said, you have
- 25:06Speaker 1: two events coming up to you all go if you
- 25:09Speaker 1: want to know about and go to et inspires dot
- 25:11Speaker 1: com Forward slash Events. You have the event coming up
- 25:15Speaker 1: this My next mution is August next tomorrow. You might

- 25:23Speaker 1: and that's gonna be the entrepreneurship series where you're doing you,
- 25:27Speaker 1: oh you. And then you have the Stay Ready, which
- 25:29Speaker 1: I'll have motivates me right now because I walked in
- 25:31Speaker 1: on that, so I know what's happening, which stay Ready.

- 27:42Speaker 1: next gentleman about to bring on the show. It's a friend.

- 27:47Speaker 1: next guest has been a contributing car sponsor for sixty
- 27:49Speaker 1: minutes to the Today's show dateline uh N double a
- 27:53Speaker 1: CP Image Award winner and the Prestigious Journalists of the
- 27:56Speaker 1: Year war from the National Association the Black Journalists. It
- 28:00Speaker 1: ain't b J. Please work with the money Making Conversations.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Mr ed Gordon, it was having it. Mr McDonald, sir,
- 28:14Speaker 1: First of all, how you doing it? I'm good man,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I am good and that's that that I always say
- 28:18Speaker 1: that to you because your image is always at one
- 28:21Speaker 1: level and then your career and then you're out looked
- 28:23Speaker 1: to change. Are it's always at at that same level
- 28:27Speaker 1: because you never say that that you satisfied. Is that
- 28:31Speaker 1: that's just a burning part of your personality that you're
- 28:33Speaker 1: never satisfied. But that's a good thing to say. Correct
- 28:36Speaker 1: never satisfied. You know. One of the people and I
- 28:38Speaker 1: say this, and you know I have said this for many,
- 28:40Speaker 1: many years. What's the people I learned and watched that
- 28:43Speaker 1: from was you, Rashaan. Rashaan has always been one of
- 28:47Speaker 1: those go getters who not only was going and getting
- 28:51Speaker 1: for himself, but I think the best leaders are those
- 28:54Speaker 1: who can inspire their team. And for years, Rashaan, I
- 28:57Speaker 1: have watched you inspire motivate people. And that's really what
- 29:00Speaker 1: it's about, because when you motivate people selfishly, you do
- 29:04Speaker 1: better for yourself. And I thank you for that compliment,
- 29:07Speaker 1: I really do, because you know me, I'm just I'm
- 29:09Speaker 1: just a guy. When I you know, it's not about
- 29:12Speaker 1: money in the in in in the process, because you know,
- 29:16Speaker 1: we all want to make money. And I always tell
- 29:17Speaker 1: people that you know their things and you tell you.
- 29:19Speaker 1: You said that to their things that you're gonna do
- 29:21Speaker 1: in life that you're not gonna get paid for, but
- 29:23Speaker 1: it pays off to get a check later on and
- 29:27Speaker 1: and and people don't understand that. Everybody want to check
- 29:29Speaker 1: up front. They were they're negotiating the deal with guess what,
- 29:32Speaker 1: zero from zero equal zero zero. I learned though, Rashaan
- 29:37Speaker 1: it's often people who haven't made it over that hump
- 29:40Speaker 1: yet who will say I gotta get paid, I gotta
- 29:42Speaker 1: get paid because they're struggling often and I understand that.
- 29:45Speaker 1: And what I try to tell people is we were
- 29:47Speaker 1: all there at one time, and at some point, those
- 29:50Speaker 1: of us who did make it over that hump made
- 29:52Speaker 1: that decision even though we needed it and we wanted it.
- 29:56Speaker 1: And maybe phone bill was do re do, mortgage was due.
- 30:00Speaker 1: There comes a point in time where you have to say,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I'm a bet on me, and that's what it's about.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And that's not because in the end, you know your mistakes.
- 30:08Speaker 1: You know your mistakes, and if you bet on you,
- 30:11Speaker 1: you can fix your mistakes. And that's really important. And
- 30:13Speaker 1: I watched I watched your career and you know, first
- 30:16Speaker 1: of all, I'm a fan that's going and you have
- 30:18Speaker 1: a lot of fans out there because of the fact
- 30:20Speaker 1: that when you speak, you know, as a voice, did
- 30:22Speaker 1: you go, that's the going choking over there? You you
- 30:24Speaker 1: you want to want them if hunting people for us,
- 30:27Speaker 1: the black people. You know what I'm saying, because because
- 30:29Speaker 1: you you said so many important things that we have
- 30:32Speaker 1: to recognize that when you talk something important, it's got
- 30:35Speaker 1: to come out of you, It's gonna come out of
- 30:36Speaker 1: your mouth. Now does that care a certain responsibility for you?
- 30:41Speaker 1: It does reshawn to some degree. You know. I still
- 30:44Speaker 1: see myself as this kid out of Detroit who was
- 30:46Speaker 1: two votes away from class clowning high school. But I
- 30:49Speaker 1: don't always take myself seriously. But I also understood early
- 30:53Speaker 1: on and continue to understand what I meant to our community.
- 30:56Speaker 1: You know, I have been able to forge your career here.
- 31:00Speaker 1: This going on three decades now, and most of the
- 31:03Speaker 1: people I started in my industry with who are African American,
- 31:07Speaker 1: male and female, are no longer in it. They couldn't
- 31:11Speaker 1: ride that road long enough. And it wasn't their fault.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Had nothing to do with talent. We just don't get
- 31:16Speaker 1: opportunities as often as other folks in this industry. And
- 31:19Speaker 1: so the thing that I'm most proud of is with
- 31:23Speaker 1: older black people and young black males especially who have
- 31:27Speaker 1: come to me and say, oh, you know, I don't
- 31:30Speaker 1: normally watch news, but you make me proud or I
- 31:33Speaker 1: watch it because you give it. Um. I understood that
- 31:36Speaker 1: responsibility and I've never taken it lightly. So for me,
- 31:40Speaker 1: I never represented just me or just my immediate family.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I knew whether it was talking to O J or
- 31:46Speaker 1: President or whomever, I knew that I was representing us
- 31:50Speaker 1: and that was important to me. It is important to
- 31:52Speaker 1: us too, because there are very few people out there
- 31:54Speaker 1: who are representing us, you know they and you know,
- 31:57Speaker 1: we have entertainers, we have athletes. I'm talk about presenting
- 32:00Speaker 1: us from a journalistic standpoint. We need deliver the message
- 32:03Speaker 1: back to us. You know, we feel that has credibility.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Now you have a show called Ed Gordon. It's on
- 32:09Speaker 1: Bounce TV. And Bounce TV isn't like ninety five million
- 32:12Speaker 1: homes right now, So you got Bounce is really growing
- 32:16Speaker 1: a lot. And they came to me a couple of
- 32:17Speaker 1: years ago and talk what I wanted to do, and
- 32:20Speaker 1: we really looked at it and it's kind of like
- 32:22Speaker 1: a sixty minutes. It's a news magazine show. And uh,
- 32:26Speaker 1: we just aired show number three is cut off quarterly,
- 32:30Speaker 1: and our numbers have been good, and uh, you know,
- 32:32Speaker 1: we're really blessed that people have really wanted to jump
- 32:36Speaker 1: on and and and come on the show. We started off,
- 32:39Speaker 1: We kicked it off with a profile of the mothers
- 32:41Speaker 1: of the movement. Uh, Trayvon Martin's mother, Michael and so
- 32:46Speaker 1: many others joined us, and it was just so emotional,
- 32:49Speaker 1: tears everywhere, viewers were crying. But it really was my
- 32:53Speaker 1: attempt to show that these women were more than just
- 32:57Speaker 1: um figures, you know, sometimes tragic tragic figure. Sometimes we
- 33:02Speaker 1: see it and we see somebody from a distance and
- 33:04Speaker 1: we see them as an image. These were real women
- 33:07Speaker 1: who had lost their children, who somehow get up every
- 33:10Speaker 1: day and live their lives not only for themselves now
- 33:13Speaker 1: but the legacy and the memory of their child. Most recently,
- 33:17Speaker 1: because we knew it was summertime, our last show, we
- 33:21Speaker 1: did profiles on the cast of Girls Trip, Ohmary Hardwick,
- 33:26Speaker 1: Michael Strong and Cedric and the Cedric the entertainer. And
- 33:30Speaker 1: we're talking about the age of Trump. You're bragging on
- 33:33Speaker 1: the show. Now you're bragging on you know what it's about, Rashaun,
- 33:38Speaker 1: And you and I both know this. It's really about relationships.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I try to tell people all the time. You can
- 33:43Speaker 1: have all the talent in the world, you can have
- 33:45Speaker 1: all the money in the world, and money certainly helps
- 33:48Speaker 1: and money will get doors open for you. But at
- 33:50Speaker 1: the end of the day, it's about relationships. Now that
- 33:55Speaker 1: the interesting thing about is that when I when I
- 33:58Speaker 1: look at what you're doing with the Ed Gordon. First
- 34:00Speaker 1: of all, I know that every time this show is
- 34:02Speaker 1: about the air, contact my office a week before so
- 34:05Speaker 1: I can put you on the show, because that's what
- 34:07Speaker 1: this is all about, you know, Send me a social
- 34:10Speaker 1: media banner and I'll put it on my on my
- 34:13Speaker 1: on my social platforms. And that's what you're talking about, relationships.
- 34:16Speaker 1: And I know that you're on the show today because
- 34:19Speaker 1: we have a relationship that's exactly right, and we communicated
- 34:23Speaker 1: over the years. Now. The thing has always been out
- 34:25Speaker 1: there that we talked about is Daddy's promise. Yeah, man,
- 34:29Speaker 1: we've been talking about that a long time. We've been
- 34:32Speaker 1: doing this for a long time. In fact, we getting
- 34:34Speaker 1: ready gearback up uh in a strong way uh this fall.
- 34:38Speaker 1: But Daddy's promise came out of an article I wrote
- 34:41Speaker 1: that's the magazine about my relationship with my daughter and children.
- 34:46Speaker 1: I thought, oh, I'd have a little boy and he'd
- 34:48Speaker 1: be a little ed and I go to this basketball
- 34:51Speaker 1: games and watch him, you know, push up on a
- 34:53Speaker 1: little pretty girls. And you know, I lived through that
- 34:55Speaker 1: vicariously the way I used to, but I was giving
- 34:58Speaker 1: a daughter. And you know, it has changed my life tremendously. Uh,
- 35:04Speaker 1: it has made me a better person. And so we
- 35:06Speaker 1: started this initiative to not only salute the father daughter relationship,
- 35:11Speaker 1: but really to tell men that we're important in the
- 35:14Speaker 1: lives of our kids, and that we really have to
- 35:18Speaker 1: start to make sure that fathers are involved in every
- 35:21Speaker 1: facet of life for our kids. You know, all of
- 35:24Speaker 1: us knows some man who, for whatever reason isn't involved
- 35:27Speaker 1: in his with his kids. Sometimes it's on the baby's mama,
- 35:31Speaker 1: but quite frankly, sometimes it's on that man. It's a
- 35:34Speaker 1: lot easier not to raise the child than to raise
- 35:36Speaker 1: the child to run away from responsibility. That's exactly why.
- 35:42Speaker 1: That's exactly right, that's exactly right. And so our goal
- 35:46Speaker 1: is to make sure even if you don't have a
- 35:47Speaker 1: good relationship with the mother, that you have a good
- 35:50Speaker 1: relationship with that child. And most importantly, it gave us
- 35:54Speaker 1: an opportunity to show that not every black man is
- 35:57Speaker 1: a delinquent father. We got a lot of and a
- 36:00Speaker 1: lot more men are involved and aren't involved, and so
- 36:03Speaker 1: it's our way to salute them. Now, now, what programs
- 36:07Speaker 1: do you have coming up? A program do you have
- 36:09Speaker 1: to do developing? Let me tell you. We're working on
- 36:13Speaker 1: a couple of documentaries as we speak. In fact, we
- 36:15Speaker 1: were shooting some stuff this weekend. We're taking a look
- 36:18Speaker 1: at what we call the Faith Project UH for for
- 36:21Speaker 1: African Americans. Faith has been such a strong UH light
- 36:27Speaker 1: in our lives and so I wanted to take a
- 36:30Speaker 1: look at how faith affects all of us and how
- 36:33Speaker 1: it is sustained in particular the African American community. We're
- 36:37Speaker 1: also working on something about how black folks UH love
- 36:42Speaker 1: to party. We've been doing that for a couple of
- 36:44Speaker 1: years now, but we've been putting that together and for
- 36:50Speaker 1: the show in December get this Rush for the show
- 36:54Speaker 1: and December for Bouncing, I'm doing a one hour special
- 36:57Speaker 1: called am I Black Enough for You? And what we're
- 37:00Speaker 1: doing it's going across the country talking to folks about
- 37:03Speaker 1: what makes us black quote unquote, So you know the
- 37:07Speaker 1: debate we always have in our community about hair texture
- 37:10Speaker 1: and skin color. You know, we're taking a look at that,
- 37:13Speaker 1: but we're also taking a look at the idea of
- 37:16Speaker 1: if you're a black Republican, are you considered black enough?
- 37:20Speaker 1: If you're mixed, are you considered black enough? If you
- 37:24Speaker 1: grew up in the suburbs instead of the hood, are
- 37:27Speaker 1: you black enough? We just did a great segment. We
- 37:30Speaker 1: had one light skinned sister who's mixed. We had a
- 37:34Speaker 1: sister from Cameroon who's very dark. I put them together
- 37:40Speaker 1: and they talked about how they sometimes have found that
- 37:46Speaker 1: they are beaten up in different ways, but it's exactly
- 37:49Speaker 1: the same because it's based on their skin color by
- 37:52Speaker 1: black people. So, uh, trying to do that's the December show.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I'm trying to get us to look at the things
- 38:01Speaker 1: that we all talk about in the kitchen but don't
- 38:04Speaker 1: always talk about outside. And you do it better than anybody.
- 38:06Speaker 1: So here's the deal down. So so my Money Making
- 38:09Speaker 1: Conversation show, you know, it's on my Facebook page. I'm
- 38:12Speaker 1: not on I heart podcast platform now. So it plays
- 38:16Speaker 1: back on that. And so my reach is really strong
- 38:18Speaker 1: and it's growing and I'm just happy you came on
- 38:20Speaker 1: the show. So i'd say that to you, is that
- 38:22Speaker 1: you now have another outlet that you can count on,
- 38:24Speaker 1: because I know this is how it works. You know,
- 38:26Speaker 1: sometimes you won't get on the show, they won't put
- 38:28Speaker 1: you on the show. But know that you get on
- 38:29Speaker 1: this show. Anytime Ed Gordon calls Rachane McDonald's staff, you
- 38:33Speaker 1: can get on. So just let me know ahead of
- 38:35Speaker 1: time when your events are happening. I'm talking at national events.
- 38:38Speaker 1: If you're doing a Daddy's promise, Hardy in New York City,
- 38:41Speaker 1: come on my show and promoted. Man, I got listeners
- 38:43Speaker 1: and viewers in New York City. Okay, And so you're
- 38:47Speaker 1: here man, I'm welcoming you back to my home. Rahane
- 38:50Speaker 1: McDonald's open for the Ed Gordon business. Keep building that brand. Brother.
- 38:55Speaker 1: I love you, I've always respected you, my man. You're
- 38:58Speaker 1: truly real. Thank you are coming on money, man, me
- 39:01Speaker 1: say one thing before we go, And I think it's
- 39:03Speaker 1: important on the money make his side if I can
- 39:05Speaker 1: very quickly. People always will reach out and say to
- 39:10Speaker 1: successful people, hey, I got this plan. Hey, can I
- 39:14Speaker 1: call you? Hey? Will you taking my you know, will
- 39:16Speaker 1: you take my tape? When you look at my book,
- 39:17Speaker 1: when you look at my song, look at my TV show?
- 39:20Speaker 1: And often those people won't take your call, look at
- 39:25Speaker 1: your tape. It isn't necessarily even because they don't want to.
- 39:29Speaker 1: It's just because they got their lives to leave. And
- 39:31Speaker 1: I want to tell everybody, the people who make money,
- 39:35Speaker 1: who become successful, who make it to the top, all
- 39:40Speaker 1: face that same thing. But the difference is they didn't
- 39:44Speaker 1: get mad about it. They didn't get in a corner
- 39:46Speaker 1: and pout about it. They found a way around it.
- 39:49Speaker 1: And I know, Rashaan, that you have done that, that
- 39:52Speaker 1: I have done that, And I want to encourage those
- 39:55Speaker 1: who follow you, who listen to you, who watch you,
- 39:58Speaker 1: to make sure they do the same thing. Don't be distressed,
- 40:01Speaker 1: don't sit in that corner. You uh the driver of
- 40:05Speaker 1: your dream, nobody else. So keep it that steering, willing,
- 40:09Speaker 1: and keep it moving. My man. I got another series.
- 40:11Speaker 1: I'm just I'm finishing my Faith in Business series and
- 40:13Speaker 1: wrapping that up. I have another series I'm starting to
- 40:16Speaker 1: call Hey, I want to be rich too, and Ed,
- 40:20Speaker 1: I'd love to invite you back to share those those
- 40:22Speaker 1: nuggets that you just share because I'm creating another movement
- 40:25Speaker 1: and I want to grab the friends that are important
- 40:28Speaker 1: in my life to be part of it. You're you're fantastic.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Thank you for calling that nugget right there will get replayed,
- 40:34Speaker 1: my brother, we're gonna we're gonna edit that down and
- 40:36Speaker 1: put some caption on it, and we're gonna put that

- 40:59Speaker 1: talk HI this ra Sean McDonald, Welcome back to money
- 41:10Speaker 1: making Conversations. This break is gonna be follow up. This
- 41:13Speaker 1: called follow up break. I'll be following up with two
- 41:16Speaker 1: of my past callers listeners, viewers, my man Jason Gregory
- 41:21Speaker 1: and also my man mostly Garcia. H Are they on
- 41:25Speaker 1: the phone? Okay? Cool, Let's hear from a man Jason Gregory.
- 41:28Speaker 1: How are you doing? Jason waere you at man. I
- 41:31Speaker 1: am great, sir. Thank you for having me back. Mr McDonald,
- 41:34Speaker 1: I greatly appreciate it. I'm telling you some Jason. Last
- 41:36Speaker 1: time you came on the show, you know, which was
- 41:39Speaker 1: a month ago, I sewed you to call back because
- 41:41Speaker 1: you was putting together your your go fund me campaign
- 41:44Speaker 1: about your film that you was doing. The film is
- 41:47Speaker 1: called Waking Up White, Yes, sir, tell us about that, well,
- 41:52Speaker 1: Waking Up White it's a it's an idea that I
- 41:54Speaker 1: had been touring around with for a while, and I
- 41:58Speaker 1: being in grad school now I found they decided to
- 42:00Speaker 1: go ahead and do something with it. And the premise
- 42:02Speaker 1: for the film is that an African American family wakes
- 42:05Speaker 1: up white one morning and they have three days to
- 42:07Speaker 1: determine if they want to go back to their cultural
- 42:09Speaker 1: roots or stick with the skin that they're in. So
- 42:12Speaker 1: I'm I'm happy to be in school right now and
- 42:15Speaker 1: we're going into production with this film summer team. Now,
- 42:18Speaker 1: this is your thesis film project, correct, Yes, sir, it
- 42:22Speaker 1: is okay? Cool? So what does that mean? I want
- 42:24Speaker 1: to because I want people to support you, so I
- 42:26Speaker 1: want to give them this much information on why this
- 42:29Speaker 1: is important for you and how their assistance can help
- 42:32Speaker 1: you in turn not only create this film, but no
- 42:36Speaker 1: get your start in life. My friend. Yeah, I appreciate it.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Yeah that in order for me to graduate, I have
- 42:42Speaker 1: to complete this thesis film. But even more importantly, uh,
- 42:46Speaker 1: you know, as a kid, I was always the one
- 42:48Speaker 1: who do you remember the old Gatorade commercial. I want
- 42:51Speaker 1: to be like Mike, I wanted to be like Spike.
- 42:56Speaker 1: It was it was always my dream to grow up
- 42:59Speaker 1: and going to the film industry. And when I got
- 43:01Speaker 1: my undergrad degree, I actually went into the advertising and
- 43:05Speaker 1: marketing world and I did that for about fifteen sixteen years.
- 43:09Speaker 1: So now I have an opportunity to go back to
- 43:11Speaker 1: grad school and pursue my true passion, which is filmmaking.
- 43:14Speaker 1: And you're trying to get a Masses of Fine Arts
- 43:17Speaker 1: degree in entrepreneur digital correct, Yes, sir, entrepreneur Digital Cinema.
- 43:21Speaker 1: And you know, it's it's everything that I'm doing right now.
- 43:25Speaker 1: You know, with my current business, I manage it and
- 43:27Speaker 1: advertising and marketing agency here in Orlando, Florida, and I
- 43:31Speaker 1: just take a lot of those skill sets and I
- 43:32Speaker 1: applied them to what I'm doing with um with my
- 43:35Speaker 1: myself how can we help you my listeners, my viewers,
- 43:40Speaker 1: how can he help you? Well? Man, I've been so
- 43:43Speaker 1: blessed and inspired just being on the phone this morning.
- 43:45Speaker 1: A great you know coming behind you know Dr Eric Thomas,
- 43:49Speaker 1: and you know Ed Gordon. Uh my gud. I grew
- 43:52Speaker 1: up watching Ed Gordon is such an honor. Um. The
- 43:55Speaker 1: way that you guys can help me is is follow

- 44:13Speaker 1: thank you, I'm your fan. Because you're you're you're you're
- 44:17Speaker 1: moving forward, you're staying ready. That's what we talked about
- 44:19Speaker 1: with Dr Eric Thomas. Staying ready. You're planning your opportunities.
- 44:23Speaker 1: You know, you dream to be like Spike. Now you're
- 44:26Speaker 1: trying to You said, I got another job, I'm hustling that,
- 44:29Speaker 1: but I'm still getting my degree. That's why I brought
- 44:31Speaker 1: up at the top of my interview with Dr Eric Thomas.
- 44:33Speaker 1: It took me seven years to get my undergraduate degree.
- 44:36Speaker 1: It took him twelve years to get his undergraduate degree. Now,
- 44:40Speaker 1: he's a doctor, Eric Thomas, I mean a laugh. I
- 44:44Speaker 1: laughed when you said that, sir. It actually took me
- 44:46Speaker 1: ten years to get my undergrad degree and four different colleges.
- 44:50Speaker 1: And guess what that means That we're in the same club,
- 44:52Speaker 1: which means that we don't give up. And we just
- 44:54Speaker 1: brought you back on the show. Was let you know
- 44:56Speaker 1: I have a relationship with you that I want to
- 44:58Speaker 1: maintain now, thank you. I want to make sure that
- 45:00Speaker 1: you keep us posted because I think it would be
- 45:02Speaker 1: pretty cool man too, you know, because Money Making Conversations

- 45:13Speaker 1: So every couple of months, every month, man called in,
- 45:15Speaker 1: let us know where you're at in your life so
- 45:17Speaker 1: people could talk, because you're one of the first people
- 45:20Speaker 1: that called in at the start of Moneymaking Conversation, so
- 45:23Speaker 1: we can share your journey of success and stand ready
- 45:27Speaker 1: and entrepreneurial success along the way, and hopefully that will
- 45:31Speaker 1: motivate other people. My man. That's all this shows us
- 45:33Speaker 1: about motivating or the plan. Yes, absolutely, absolutely, thank you, sir.
- 45:38Speaker 1: It's you know, as I mentioned, it's it's a pleasure
- 45:41Speaker 1: to be on your show. I've I've been at this
- 45:44Speaker 1: for a while and I'm excited to really launch this

- 46:54Speaker 1: HIO but now to my understand and he's in California
- 46:59Speaker 1: mostly see what's up my friend? Hey, Hey, Hey, what's
- 47:03Speaker 1: up my friend? How you doing? Mr? McDonald? First of all,
- 47:06Speaker 1: I want to apologize because you called me a couple
- 47:08Speaker 1: of times and because the interviews went long, I wasn't
- 47:11Speaker 1: able to get you on the call. Let me get
- 47:13Speaker 1: that apology out straight, because I value our relationship, Okay,
- 47:18Speaker 1: and it's important that I say that to you because
- 47:20Speaker 1: of the That's how I've been all my life is
- 47:23Speaker 1: that I asked somebody to do and people asked me
- 47:25Speaker 1: to do things, and your time means something. So so
- 47:29Speaker 1: tell everybody what you're doing right now and so we
- 47:31Speaker 1: can stay in the loop. Like I told Jason earlier,
- 47:34Speaker 1: and like this show shows about about staying ready, I'm
- 47:36Speaker 1: gonna take that campaign that Dr Eric Thomas started the
- 47:40Speaker 1: top of my show and we're gonna driving through the
- 47:43Speaker 1: whole show. Now you're staying ready. What's your stay ready?
- 47:46Speaker 1: Playing right here? What's your narrative working right now, Moses,
- 47:49Speaker 1: right right. Well, first let me say thank you for
- 47:52Speaker 1: having me on the show once again. Apology accepted. It
- 47:55Speaker 1: was not needing, man, I thank you, though, Um, I've
- 47:59Speaker 1: been really inspired. And let me let you know I too.
- 48:02Speaker 1: I try to tune it like every Monday as much
- 48:03Speaker 1: as I can, and I take notes. I do. I
- 48:06Speaker 1: take notes. When Verka was on the show and he
- 48:08Speaker 1: guys were talking about faith in business, I took notes. Um,
- 48:11Speaker 1: even today, you know, Dr Thomas very Gordon, this is
- 48:14Speaker 1: amazing stuff. Um, and it's very inspiring. So I love it.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I love it. I love it right now, man, as
- 48:20Speaker 1: you were, I am in Los Angeles, I was in Ohio.
- 48:25Speaker 1: I was doing that, but I started to realize some things.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I was like, wait a minute, my income is cap
- 48:30Speaker 1: my opportunities are capped. And I attended a mentoring session
- 48:34Speaker 1: with Missus T D Jake's and there was something that
- 48:37Speaker 1: he said, I feel like that has literally changed every
- 48:40Speaker 1: decision I've made ever since then. He says, you're not next,
- 48:43Speaker 1: You're now. And he said that he says every time
- 48:47Speaker 1: you think you're next or you're the next one, he says,
- 48:49Speaker 1: it gives you an excuse not to be great and
- 48:51Speaker 1: not to be ready. And you guys were just talking
- 48:54Speaker 1: about that staying ready right, always being hungry, and I
- 48:58Speaker 1: knew that that sport was that that was same thing
- 49:00Speaker 1: for me. So and then I'm starting to learn that
- 49:03Speaker 1: really there's no where, there's no sacrifice, there's no real value.
- 49:08Speaker 1: So I had to sacrifice a lot making and making
- 49:11Speaker 1: this leap and jump to l A. I started read
- 49:14Speaker 1: Jump the steep r book and I said, listening to you,
- 49:18Speaker 1: some things just started to click in my in my
- 49:20Speaker 1: head and myself, I said, no, you have to do this,
- 49:22Speaker 1: And I felt like I was treating my music career
- 49:24Speaker 1: as a part time dead thank you, And I said,
- 49:27Speaker 1: it can't. It won't work that way. It can't work
- 49:30Speaker 1: that way. It can't, it can't. Most imna tell you why.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Because I worked at IBM and I was doing stand
- 49:36Speaker 1: up comedy at night. I had to quit IBM. That's
- 49:39Speaker 1: what you call sacrifice, That's what you just said. And
- 49:41Speaker 1: a lot of people are afraid to make that sacrifice
- 49:44Speaker 1: because guess what, it walks you into the unknown. See. See,
- 49:48Speaker 1: you know when you have a regular job, you know
- 49:50Speaker 1: you're gonna go to the job. You offered a certain
- 49:52Speaker 1: time you're gonna go to launch, you might flirt with
- 49:54Speaker 1: somebody's the job. You might be mad at somebody with
- 49:57Speaker 1: the job. You might show up later, you might calling
- 49:59Speaker 1: sick at the j all these things you can do
- 50:01Speaker 1: with that job. But you know, but when you meet
- 50:04Speaker 1: making sacrifices the unknown pop scene, do not be afraid
- 50:08Speaker 1: of the unknown Moses, I walked out there, man, you
- 50:11Speaker 1: can call it faith. I didn't have a plan. That's
- 50:13Speaker 1: what I'm telling people. Don't make the same mistake that
- 50:15Speaker 1: I made. But when you're making a sacrifice, the plan
- 50:18Speaker 1: is that you're about to change your life. That you're
- 50:21Speaker 1: not next is now right. That's so true. That's so true, man.
- 50:27Speaker 1: And I appreciate this relationship with you with it means
- 50:30Speaker 1: a great deal. Like the the the insight, the value
- 50:33Speaker 1: information that you provide me is priceless, man, It's very priceless.
- 50:38Speaker 1: So I thank you, thank you for having me on
- 50:39Speaker 1: the show. So what I have going on now in
- 50:42Speaker 1: l A. I've been on just about every tuesdays. I've
- 50:46Speaker 1: been doing what's called the Zen Lounge, which is through
- 50:49Speaker 1: your city. I know what's happen, Yeah yeah, uh, Teacher
- 50:53Speaker 1: Campbell absolutely right there on the corner right there on
- 50:56Speaker 1: the couch, just a bill board. Yes sir, yes, sir.
- 50:59Speaker 1: So if if you can help me get the word out,
- 51:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna be there tomorrow night. Um it's uh doors

- 51:33Speaker 1: I got good music, man, what shot knows? I have
- 51:35Speaker 1: good music. That's what I wanna do. I want to
- 51:37Speaker 1: put them music out there. I want to put a
- 51:40Speaker 1: hope into the city. I want to impact community. I
- 51:42Speaker 1: don't want to impact this world man, with the music
- 51:44Speaker 1: I got to offer. And there's more to me the
- 51:46Speaker 1: music now speak all right, I just want to put
- 51:49Speaker 1: it all out here. Speak speak. Hey, Moses, you know
- 51:55Speaker 1: what I owe you. I owe you breakfast and dinner

- 52:38Speaker 1: I hope. So Miss Louis, are you ready? Miss Louis,
- 52:41Speaker 1: are you ready? Hold on about to bring you up.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I was just testing you. I'm just making sure you
- 52:45Speaker 1: can give me Welcome back to Money Making Conversations. Been
- 52:48Speaker 1: a fantastic show so far. It's only gonna get better
- 52:51Speaker 1: because my next kiss used to do this as a hobby,
- 52:55Speaker 1: but she's decided one day to make this a career.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, please work with the Money Making Conversation.
- 53:02Speaker 1: The owner herb Eden Charen Lewis. How you doing, Ms Lewis,
- 53:07Speaker 1: I'm doing well in yourselves. Fantastic and you're based in Atlanta, Georgia. Correct, yes, okay, cool.
- 53:13Speaker 1: Tell me about your business. My business is an all
- 53:17Speaker 1: natural handmade soap company. Um. Currently we only make handmade
- 53:21Speaker 1: bar soaks, so we do want to expand some more
- 53:23Speaker 1: herbal products. And the handmade bars are all vegan bars
- 53:27Speaker 1: made with plant based oils of coconut palm and shade
- 53:29Speaker 1: better and then they only have therapy the great essential oils,
- 53:32Speaker 1: so you get that mind, body and soul um nourishment
- 53:36Speaker 1: not not miss Lewis. Okay, your small business and guess
- 53:39Speaker 1: what you're twenty five? Yeah, okay, I'm telling some twenty five.
- 53:44Speaker 1: I just graduate from college and then I didn't know
- 53:47Speaker 1: and I was working for five BM, so I really
- 53:48Speaker 1: was just doing the regular thing. You know. You go
- 53:50Speaker 1: to college, you go to world, you get mad, you
- 53:53Speaker 1: have kids. Now twenty five, you made a decision that, hey,
- 53:57Speaker 1: it was something I was doing as a hobby, the knocking,
- 54:00Speaker 1: to do it as a business. What pushed you in
- 54:02Speaker 1: that direction or what gave you the belief you could
- 54:04Speaker 1: go in that direction? Well, he's sitting right here, my husband,
- 54:09Speaker 1: And actually the business started when two years ago, when
- 54:12Speaker 1: I was twenty three, and um, I was doing the
- 54:15Speaker 1: hobby at first, and my husband already previously had his
- 54:18Speaker 1: own business and was very like entrepreneurial minded. So when
- 54:21Speaker 1: he found out, like when he saw that the hobby
- 54:23Speaker 1: was doing really really well that people were interested in
- 54:26Speaker 1: the soap, he was like, you know, you need to
- 54:28Speaker 1: start a business. And I was looking at him because
- 54:30Speaker 1: I wasn't thinking, you know, it was just a hobby.
- 54:32Speaker 1: I wasn't thinking of like starting a business. But um,
- 54:35Speaker 1: he helped me definitely get started, and um has been
- 54:38Speaker 1: there along the way just helping the business grow and
- 54:41Speaker 1: we've just been seeing it grow. Let menage a couple
- 54:44Speaker 1: of questions in Miss Louis, because it's a couple of
- 54:46Speaker 1: things because I can see him in the in the
- 54:48Speaker 1: in the skype, and I'm not trying to bring him
- 54:50Speaker 1: on the call, but what happens there is and I
- 54:53Speaker 1: get this a lot. He's your mentor, I can say that, right,
- 54:58Speaker 1: and that's important. And also he abody he can turn to,
- 55:00Speaker 1: like you said earlier, for advice on your business. Correct.
- 55:06Speaker 1: So so let's expound on that. Because you have a
- 55:09Speaker 1: built in mentor and you have a built in advisor,
- 55:14Speaker 1: how important that is when you started your business two
- 55:17Speaker 1: years ago because a lot of people just jump out there.
- 55:19Speaker 1: They don't have a plan and they don't have anybody
- 55:21Speaker 1: to turn to when things aren't going right. How important
- 55:24Speaker 1: does the role he played other Let's let's remove the
- 55:26Speaker 1: word husband out of the conversation. Let's just use the
- 55:29Speaker 1: word mentor and advisor. Hard role I'm important is that role? Um?
- 55:35Speaker 1: That role of course is very vital. UM. Just as
- 55:38Speaker 1: far as like, even with life, we always need guidance
- 55:40Speaker 1: and different things. So UM, I always say, just even
- 55:43Speaker 1: with entrepreneurship, just to get out there and do it,
- 55:46Speaker 1: like actually start doing something. But along the way, as
- 55:49Speaker 1: you can see to grow, and as you continue to transform,
- 55:52Speaker 1: and you want somebody to help guide you, somebody that
- 55:55Speaker 1: you can go to. UM that's that has already you know,
- 55:59Speaker 1: done that, done that business aspect or maybe even UM
- 56:02Speaker 1: like I talked to other soap makers as well, even
- 56:05Speaker 1: talking to people who've um already have had businesses as
- 56:09Speaker 1: soap makers, and even just UM, my husband, he's over
- 56:12Speaker 1: with my mentor. He's really good at marketing as well,
- 56:16Speaker 1: so he's you know, he helps a lot with that side.
- 56:19Speaker 1: And then I also learned a lot of things from
- 56:21Speaker 1: just watching him, Um, watching the things he's done with
- 56:24Speaker 1: his business and watching the things that he does with
- 56:26Speaker 1: Urban Eating as well. Okay, cool, how do we get
- 56:29Speaker 1: How do we order your products? Um? You can order
- 56:32Speaker 1: the products online at www dot Urban eating dot com
- 56:37Speaker 1: s H E R D N E D E N
- 56:43Speaker 1: dot com. Okay, okay, now let's let's talk about something
- 56:46Speaker 1: you said earlier. Organic products. I hear that a lot
- 56:49Speaker 1: from people, you know, you know stores that they have
- 56:52Speaker 1: organic food. You know, it's no chemicals. How why why
- 56:56Speaker 1: is why is that such a big sale when it
- 56:58Speaker 1: comes to your soap product? Um, Well, we don't even actually,
- 57:03Speaker 1: we don't even claim to be organic. We just claim
- 57:05Speaker 1: to be natural because a lot of um, I mean
- 57:08Speaker 1: really it's just a label. Natural makes people. Yea organic
- 57:11Speaker 1: you have to pay for that, like because it grows
- 57:14Speaker 1: a certain way. And we just claim to be natural, um,
- 57:17Speaker 1: just because it's the earth to us as natural. So
- 57:21Speaker 1: all the products that we UM choose our earth made products,
- 57:24Speaker 1: because that's why we just natural is our thing. Um.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Even before I started making soaps, like most people knew
- 57:30Speaker 1: me as a natural person. You know, I've every I've
- 57:33Speaker 1: done that with the natural movement and a lot of
- 57:35Speaker 1: people are moving towards natural products because our skin is
- 57:38Speaker 1: you know, it's from I mean, our bodies are composed
- 57:41Speaker 1: of earth made elements as well, so we have to
- 57:43Speaker 1: work with the earth, uh and use products from the earth,
- 57:46Speaker 1: and these our skin and our insights. Now, when people
- 57:50Speaker 1: now your your your website you have, was that the
- 57:52Speaker 1: website you gave out that you gave out earlier, was
- 57:54Speaker 1: that the way you can buy the product? That's the
- 57:57Speaker 1: website and then we have ours page. Okay, let's let's
- 58:02Speaker 1: let's let's start your selling some soap right now, miss Louis. Okay,
- 58:05Speaker 1: let's start selling some soap. Okay, because I know husband
- 58:07Speaker 1: right next to you, he said, that's why we call
- 58:10Speaker 1: we we like you. We would like you, Rashawn. But
- 58:12Speaker 1: we're trying to sell some soap because I've been seeing
- 58:15Speaker 1: he go, okay, when is this brother gonna ask about
- 58:18Speaker 1: buying soap? So let's get out of here seat. I
- 58:21Speaker 1: know him, I know he know he messed with his
- 58:23Speaker 1: had a couple of times because he's trying to figure
- 58:25Speaker 1: out why you're talking to him. If you need selling soap,
- 58:27Speaker 1: so tell me, tell me the different ways that you
- 58:32Speaker 1: can buy your product. Because That's what money making conversations
- 58:35Speaker 1: is about. It's about using your success story because I
- 58:38Speaker 1: wanted you on the show because you're young, and I'm
- 58:40Speaker 1: saying you're young and not that's not a negative because
- 58:43Speaker 1: a lot of people think they have to be thirty,
- 58:45Speaker 1: forty fifty in order to start pursuing these opportunities. You
- 58:48Speaker 1: should start pursuing the opportunity when the dream comes to you,
- 58:51Speaker 1: put a plan in place, put a support system around you,
- 58:54Speaker 1: and you can be successful. Now you have Urban Eden.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Tell me the different ways that you can get your products. UM.
- 59:01Speaker 1: You can get our products online of course through our
- 59:03Speaker 1: website and also through our social media and also today
- 59:06Speaker 1: we're UM is our last day of our five for
- 59:08Speaker 1: twenty five sell that were running, so if you go
- 59:10Speaker 1: check that out you can get five for twenty five dollars.
- 59:13Speaker 1: Also if you're in Atlanta, UM we do markets around
- 59:16Speaker 1: the city, so every Tuesday we're at Pont City Market
- 59:19Speaker 1: from four to eight and every Thursday we're at East
- 59:21Speaker 1: Atlanta Village from four to eight pm there as well.
- 59:25Speaker 1: And then we also UM you can all always contact
- 59:28Speaker 1: us and we also try to do pick up for
- 59:30Speaker 1: meet up with you to get the soap. I like that.
- 59:33Speaker 1: I like that. Give out okay, give out the website again,
- 59:35Speaker 1: and give out the the social media account again. Okay.
- 59:39Speaker 1: The website is www. You have to add the www
- 59:43Speaker 1: dot Urban eating dot com. And then our spacebook is
- 59:49Speaker 1: urban eating um, and then you can go on there
- 59:51Speaker 1: like our Facebook and also go to the website from there,
- 59:54Speaker 1: and then our instagram is urban eating at Urban eating
- 59:57Speaker 1: as well without the apostrophe in it. Now because of that, Now,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: what's your special you have running right now? Are special
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: that we have running? Um? The last day is today's
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: uh five dollars. Now, if you have to give anybody
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: some advice, that's a young entrepreneur, that's an entrepreneur period,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: what would you give them? Ms lewis Um. My favorite
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: thing to say is ain't nothing to it, but to
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: do it and also take it um one day at
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: a time, Like, be patient. It's a it's not a
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: it's not a race. It's not um something that's gonna
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: happen instantly, be patient, take your time, grow with it
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: and perfect your crass. Constantly work on yourself. Cool. I
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: really want to appreciate take the time. One thing I
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: wanted to say is that I didn't want to bring
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: your husband onto the call, but I do want to
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: interview him later, because you don't want people hear different things.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: I want to focus on urban eating. I want to
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: bring another business in and they're confused about what we're
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: talking about. But I do want to interview him because
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: he's another young entrepreneur. And then you've been you guys
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: being a couple in the fact you're doing things differently.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: That's a dynamic I want to exposed to my audience.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I want to congratulate you again. You know, keep me,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: keep me on your loop, keep me on your dial tone.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: You said, Rashan, could you promote something from it? Rashan,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: can I come on your show. I've reached out to
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: you because you're special, because you have something happening that
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: everybody in America and the world need to understand. That
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: you have a dream that wasn't hobby, that wasn't hobby.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Then now you turned into a business, and it took effort,
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: it took faith, and it took a plan. I would
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: thank you for coming on my show. It's Louis. Thank
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: you for having me. I appreciate it. Keep selling so
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: and big husband. We're gonna talk soon. Okay, appreciate well,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: be brought back and more of money to make conversations.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: If you're in the world of TV, film, documentary, digital social,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: you want to listen to my next guest because guess
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: what he has relationships with Kevin Hart and Karen Hard
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: is like a social media digital local. So if you
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: want to know some information, you want to hear some
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: advice here about this man and what he's doom. Please
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: come back from money making conversation, oh man, Nick Buzz
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: will be on the show with me straight out of
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: l A doing the ban with Sean McDonald money making conversations.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: We're joined it. I don't be inspired. Get a plan, y'all,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: get a plan. Stay right, We'll be back to more
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: moneymaking conversations my next guest. Welcome back to money making conversations.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: My next guest small businesses. You know it's about small business,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: about motivation, bout hearing different stories and different plans to success.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: My next guest has created more than seven hundred award
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: winning films, TV shows, web series and commercials from major brands,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: available all on all platforms, reaching more than eighty million devices,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: including Apple, TV, Roku, and Amazon. Please welcome to money
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: making conversations. My main Mr Nick Plus. You know the
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: thing about is that when you said devices, because that's
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: why I wanted to bring you on the show, because
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: the fact that you're able to communicate with over eighty
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: million devices. We tave devices, were talked about some my phone,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: we talked about Apple TV, we talked about Real coul
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: We're talking about Amazon. How do you play a role
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: in all that? Nick? Well, at NBTV Studios, we're we're
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: looking at this as a direct to consumer approach where
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: you can use all of these devices and their various
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: features to create a new experience that's more interactive and
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: less subtrusive and really looking to redefine the experience of television.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: I think a lot of people have shown that over
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: the years they're more familiar with these devices, and there's
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: a lot of different features that each of them offer,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: and we're excited to bring an experience that really brings,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: you know, the TV to kind of the next level
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: advanced TV, if you will. Well, we know the TV
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: is already there, you know, like I said, I'm watching
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: on my you know, my smartphone. I used to have
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: had to have my laptop, you know, but now as
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I'm adjusting my viewers my view and I'm cool with
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: looking at a small screen. So what is the what
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: is the limits? Are their limits? And what you're trying
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: to do when you're bringing this type of visual technology
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: to the world, Well, we think, you know, part of
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: the challenge I've seen is that, you know, there's a
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: lot of different devices, interfaces and everything has, you know,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: its own set up time. And I think you'd agree,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: even just from a consumer standpoint. You know, when you
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: when you have all Apple products, they speak well to
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: each other. When you have all Samsung products, they speak
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: well to each other. But then when you have a
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: variety of products, it becomes more cumbersome to get your
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: phone to connect to your TV and your TV to
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: connect to you know, your your other O T T devices.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: And I think even the name quite frankly, you know,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: we use the term and in the industry O T
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: T over the top, but even that I don't think
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: does a great job of describing, you know, what this
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: new space really is. I mean the idea that people
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: are watching less commercials and everyone is looking for you know,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: very specific niche content as well as the big broad subject.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: The old were the top devices or the or the
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: you know, essentially the the the digital version of cable
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: allows you to connect in a way that you don't
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: really get on any other platform. And what we think
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: is really the solution to this is to try to
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: standardize and to try to make it as easy for
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: the consumer as possible. The consumer experience has to be
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: number one. Now, you know, you said questions for me
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: to ask, which thank you, but one of them that
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: stood out was that was this question about to ask
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: you right now what can social video do to better
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: society in the world, explaining, well, I think, you know,
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: obviously I'm a big fan of your work, and I
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: really you know, want to you know, compliment you on
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: not only the the initiatives that you've done in business
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: and entertainment and television, but also to really make the
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: world a better place. I think overall in society people,
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: especially with social media and and all of the you know,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: the the kind of polarization of different topics, whether it
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: be politics or religion or or even just general pop
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: culture has really created an environ ment, uh that can
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: be very hostile. Uh. You know, there seems to be
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: you know, very far right and a very far left
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: opinion on just about anything. So I think part of
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: the the idea that social video has brought a democratization
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: of information and at the speed of light, you know,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: social video to me is also a tool that can
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: really help get things that may or may not be
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: covered by mainstream media, or things that may or may
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: not be obvious to people, out to to a greater
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: audience and to really make people aware of critical world issues,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: things that quite frankly, you know, as a society we
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: should be far more concerned about, uh than what was
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: on the last episode of the Kardashians. We need to
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: find a way to get it to people and get
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: it to people quickly. So I think it's almost creating
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: a citizens journalism approach to major major topics. And I
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: think that if we really, as a as a society
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: use social media for the impact of good as much
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: as we do to to share the latest gossip, we
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: we as a society can can actually create a better
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: environment for us and our children. Now that that's great
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: because you know, but that that's one side of the ledger.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: The other side is the entertainment, and entertainment dominates the
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: format of the platform that you involved whether he's whether
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: he's baking, or whether he's funny videos, or or whether
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: he's you know, exercise videos a thing like that. What
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: format is a dominant part of your production? What format
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: would you say? So, we're we're doing a lot in
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: very specific categories, like the world of spirits as an alcohol.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: We think that that's a very unique niche category. To start,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: we're actually launching a network on new Buzz TV all
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: about the world of craft spirits. I'm sure you've seen
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: that there's been an explosive growth and whiskey and bourbon
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: and a lot of different subjects that New Beer doesn't
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: exactly in beers and wines, and we believe that that's
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: an example of something that we can bring a real lifestyle, entertainment,
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: story driven approach to. But we're also in a bling
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: commerce and that's a big part of what we're doing.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Um at n b t V is is essentially looking
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: at video as short form categories that range from spirits
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: to comedy, to science, to technology to entertainment, and really
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: looking at a way to create a connect a connection
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: to being able to buy what you see and to
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: not have interruptive advertising, to actually get away from the
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: thirty second sixty second interruptions that so many people today,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: especially in the connected consumer world, has come to skip
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: or ignore to do something else. And and part of
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: what I think makes this very unique is that we
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: work with major consumer brands as well as major celebrities,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: um and entertainment companies, and we really sit at that
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: nexus of advertising and entertainment. So we're hearing it on
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: the advertising side saying they want a more effective way,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: more entertainment driven way to connect with consumers, and we're
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: hearing it on the entertainment side saying, you know, people
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: are really, you know, kind of tired of the same old,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: same old. So I think this new front year allows
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: us to experiment and really try some new and unique
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: ways to to basically provide content to people that is
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: very targeted, high quality, and then has the ability for
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: you to connect directly with the brand. Now you've now
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: you've gotten him board with a fantastic I want to
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: call him my friend, brilliant comedian, brilliant social phenomenon, Kevin Harten.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: What is the business platform that you're creating with him
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: in the entertainment arena. Well, Kevin's a fantastic comedian, as
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: you mentioned, and a really great person. We've been working
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: with Kevin and a variety of capacities, mostly as it
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: relates to his branded and integrated content over the last
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: five years. And we've been working with Kevin throughout his
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: career and obviously watching him explode into a superstar. Uh
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: and and really you know somebody that that spans the
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: social sphere in a way that I think very very
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: few celebrities can. And so we've been working with Kevin
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: on on some new things that he's working on, some
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: of which I can't get into. D can't yet, But
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: there's some big announcements coming from him, um in this
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: space that I think everyone will be really excited about.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: But let me ask you this now, when once the
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: announcement has happened, can I bring you back on the show,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Nick too. It's we can talk about the process because
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: that's what because that's what people want to know. People
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: want to know, And I know a lot of times,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: like you said, when you're when you're planning deals, you
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: can't announce it for the deals that hit the screen
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: because that just ruins potentially everything advertisement opportunity, sponsor advertising
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: ratings opportunities and everything but the key is in your
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: world that you're creating. You're a creator, correct, Yes, yes,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: we we created. We actually have a talent management group
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: and we also distribute it. So for us, this is
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: the the the distribution platform of new Buzz TV and
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: the channels that will be launching is really the three
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: three sixty degree approach to coming up with big ideas,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: physically producing them, connecting talent to them, and distributing them
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: on on all platforms. Awesome, Well, man, Nick, I want
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: to apologize for the what we got this if you started, uh,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: because problems. I need to keep talking to you, man.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: So it's a deal. Here's a deal, man. You're gonna
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: get back on the radio again next month. Okay, next month, tomorrow,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: you know that, right, next month to mom. So so
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: with that being said, and I know some of these
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: announcements are gonna start happening next month. And uh. And
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: the great thing about it is that your brand your creator. Man.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: I've been creating all my life. Man. And the fact
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: that I like the way you talk because really you
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: you you like the fact that you can create something
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: and change people's opinions, change what they're gonna do that night,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: or change what they're gonna do that day. You keep
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: that attitude, man, and you can change the world. I
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: honestly believe Nick, I've been changing the world the last
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: twenty five years in my life, and I feel that's
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: what you're doing right now. Well, thank you, and I
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: I really you know, it's been my life submission to
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: make the world better than I than I came into it. Um,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: And I agree with you wholeheartedly. And I think we
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: need more positive energy and more and more united, you know,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: behaviors between each other. And I think we just quite frankly,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: to be nicer to each other and have more fun.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Because this is you get one shot at this life.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: Let's make it. Let's make it a great one. Right Well, Nick,
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: here's the deal, man, I'm gonna see you in person, Okay,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: I look forward to it. Well, thank you for having
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: me on. I wish you the best and keep up
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: the keep spreading the good word and the good vibes.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: Thank you, my man. This is my man, Nick Buzzle
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: money Making Conversations. We'll be right back with more more
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: meeting Kitty baby Face Emmonds to welcome back y'all. Just
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: the last half hour of money making conversation. Thank you
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: for hanging in there. You've heard Dr Eric Thomas, the
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: hip hop Preacher, my Man, Ed Gordon. That show us
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: about motivating people. That show us about famous people, celebrities
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: telling you how they've been successful, how they are successful
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: to day, and how they will continue to be successful.
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: The next guest, my next guest, I'm gonna just tell
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: you he's a musical geez. Let's just put it out
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: that he is a musical genius. He's an American singer, songwriter,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: and record producer. He's written and produced over twenty six
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: number one R and B hits throughout his career, and
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: he has over eleven Grammy Awards. Please welcome to money
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Making Conversation. Kenny, baby Face, Edmund, How are you doing,
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: sir good man? How are you? I'm doing great. Last
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: time you saw me, I was running around your dressing
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: room at the Hoodie Awards telling you how great you were,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: and man, you were special, and you probably thought I
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: was crazy. Who I thought you were special? I appreciate that.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: I appreciate that. Now here's a great thing about it,
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: because whenever I get a chance where I've had you
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: on the radio show, I just love to talk about
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: your career, Kenny, because of the fact that you're a
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: performer and a lot of people don't know because they
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: hear the music, but they don't connect the dots that
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: that that you wrote that song. Uh, is that important
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: to you or it is? As long as you get
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: to check it's all good. Um, you know, it's it's
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: I think it's important, but I don't. It's still not
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: something that I've run around talking about every day. But
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: you know, as long as ultimate, I think people are
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: starting to kind of put it together absolutely because you've
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: been on the you've been on the road. That's when
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: I put it together. It's it's it's it's really crazy.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: I just had Anthony Hamilton's on the on the on
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: the on the on My show, and we were talking
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: about one of his songs and I didn't know you
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: wrote that song, you know, and uh, you know, because
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: I was talking about a lyric was saying that, Uh,
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: I thought that men God had it like that And
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: I said, that was an amazing lyric that that And
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: he said, man, baby Fris wrote the lyric. I go, huh,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: because when when? Because that's how because that is such
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: a natural thing that you do with your lyrics, you know,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: you know, you know, how do you what is the process?
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: Let's Met's just slow it down. I don't want to
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: get excited because we got a lot to talk about it.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: I'm glad you made time to do my show because
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: of the fact that you are a genius. You are
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: a person that R and B hits, pop hits. You know,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: you cross all genres as a producer. What what what
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: makes Katy baby Face Emmon's tick? Well, you know you
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: mentioned like like with um with Anthony, like coming up
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: with that line, that line wouldn't it wouldn't exist without Anthony,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: meaning that when I hung out with him and was
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: just talking with him, is like that's how he talks. Yeah,
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: So I just I just took up on people and
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: and and say what they would say. And uh, because
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: that's kind of like where you get it from. You
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: watch people and you hear you hear music and lyrics
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: all the time if you just watch and listen. Now
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: here's a great thing about it. I want to say.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Would you say that the Grammy is the is the
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: ultimate music award? Is that correct? And I say that, Uh, yeah,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: it's it's it's kind of like the Oscars, the Oscars
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: of music kind of like the No Question. It's like
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: the Oscars for a musician. Right, So, because you got
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: twenty six album as a producer, I only have eleven,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: mean eleven. You've got twenty six number one R and
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: B hits, twenty eleven grammars. Okay, I apologize now. To
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: get that means that there has to be a level
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: of consistency and trust. And when people come to you,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: do they come to you with any level of expectations? Um,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: they come, I think at this particular point they I
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: don't know if they come with thinking that then necessarily
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: going to get a hit per se. They come to
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: get quality, real song, um and so and and and
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: hoping that that ultimately turns into something. But I think
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: so the days of where people kind of just at
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: least coming to me, they don't. They're coming not coming
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: to me thinking they're gonna get this huge hit song.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: We come in search of a song. They're being said,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: because you were recently inducted into the Songwriters Hall of
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: Fame right in June. Now, now when you was inducted
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: to that that that's like that that's that's that's that's
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: like the well he was on the thirteen using you
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: now you're into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. So those
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: are those equal? Or what means more to you? Songwriters
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: means more than the Hollywood start, no question? And why
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: is that? Because that's what I am on a songwriter.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: I don't necessarily consider myself a star and consider myself
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: a songwriter. But you but you also a performer, and
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: that that's key too. So so when you're making that well,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: I guess what. I met you when you was performer
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: way back in the day. But now then you went
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: to become a songwriter, you know, and all that, So
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: what what what? What keeps that balance going? Because you're
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: a special guy. And I say that, and I hope
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: I'm not embarrassing you would I say that because of
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: the fact that you do incredible things with music. You
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: affect how people live their lives. Your songs come on
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: the radio and they change, they can change how I
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: feel in a given day. That's that's amazing to have
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: that quality, don't you think, No question. I mean, that's
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: that's how music has always affected me. And that's why
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: I love being a part of it. You know, I
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: love writing it. So it's it is certainly something that
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: that you feel proud of and and because of Because
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: of writing music and what I've done, it's it's put
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: me in situations, you know, with with amazing people and
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: people that I grew up you know, uh, listening to
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: and was a fan of people that I looked up to.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: You know, I've been able to be with those people
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: and you know, hang out with, you know, the likes
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: of Stevie wonder Er. I can call Stevie a friend
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: and and that's that's all because you know, it's really
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: because I listened to him and I learned how to
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: write music. You know, I learned what was important, the
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: importance of what you're doing. Now when you're on tour, now,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: that's when you you you you do a lot of
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: the songs that you've written, correct for other artists. Correct. Okay,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: That's when it becomes That's when it's just opened up
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: to me, how great you work. Let me just tell
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: your song. Let me just if you don't mind, give
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: me a couple of minutes, I'm go and we can
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: interact mong Tennis. Some of the songs that you're very
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: familiar with fans, listeners, watchers, don't be cruel, Bobby Brown,
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: every little step you take, Bobby, Bobby Brown, Superwoman, Karen White.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: You know My My My by Johnny Gil End of
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: the Road, Boys, Two men, can we talk? Kevin Campbell.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: I'll make love to you boys. Two Men again, Red
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: Light Special, TLSE sitting up in my room, Brandy, you're
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: making me high. Tony Braxton XHL shoot, shoot shoot, come
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: on that song or the year? Oh my goodness man.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: And then you but then also you've worked with Eric
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: Clapton and you've worked with Madonna. Correct Yeah, how you know? Okay,
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: here's the deal with my radio show, and like I'm
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: also I heart um podcast as well. This is what
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: it's gonna play back as well. Is that what I
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: was trying to say is that I don't want to say,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: because you're so talented, how do you break it down
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: to somebody trying to get in the field that you
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: have mastered? Kenny? I think ultimately what gets you there
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: our songs, Yes, sir, it's like you know, when you
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: write a good song, and when you write a great
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: song and it's a great melody and uh and and
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: the track feels good and everything feels good about it.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: People find it. So in our reality, you know, you're
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: a credit card. Is your songwriting? You know, that's what
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: gets you in the door. It's not I was writing.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: I've been writing songs on my life and so and
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: initially when I was writing songs, I wasn't writing the
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: right ones. I wasn't. I wasn't getting the attention because
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: I needed to. I needed to fix some things I needed.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: It wasn't catchy enough. It wasn't it wasn't touching people,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: and so I kept having to go back to the
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: you know, drawing board and start over again. And that's
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: and to this day, that's what I do. I'll write
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: songs and write work on them forever till I can
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: get them right. So it's, you know, whenever anybody's ever
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: you know, trying to figure that out. Ultimately, it comes
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: down to are you writing a great song? Are you
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: making something that everybody wants to listen to and everybody
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: wants to sing along with our group with whatever, for
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: whatever it is, And that's that's the key, and that
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: the key is that you also now working on a
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: new album. Correct, Yes, I am okay, what drives this
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: next album, but it most you know what thought of
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: it does anything trigger you to say, I gotta do
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: this album because I have something I want to say. Well,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: you know, I'm out on the road a lot, and
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: and I feel like new music is great when you
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: can have the right kind of new music. You can't
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: just cut music just for sake of I got a
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: new album. You gotta do something that you that you
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: feel like it's gonna that that people are looking for
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: and they want to feel and then they want to
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: have and they help them have a good time or
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: you know. So I think being out on the road
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: helps you figure kind of that out what your audience
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: wants from you and and and so that helps it
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: to that extent you could you could easily not try
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: to do any new music. And and a lot of
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: times people aren't necessarily ready to hear new music from
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: their their favorite artists. Um, yeah, because you pay the
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: ticket based on what you heard correctly, so so you know,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: so it's it is as much a thing today is
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: trying to write that right song that makes the difference
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: that they're open with it very healing and create create
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: new new space. Now I have to be honest with you,
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: it's a lot easier to do that on a new
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: artist that hasn't had that shot yet, where people are
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: more willing to listen to because they may because they
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: haven't heard got anything from them. So so hence I
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: still write and do things for other artists to this
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: day and and and always will. And that's called multiple
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: strains of income. Correct, Yes, as long as you're doing
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: it with every with everybody else. The whole thing is
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: I always said I don't want to have all my
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: eggs in one basket. That's what love talking about. Hey, Kenny,
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: I gotta go to break. Can you hang on because
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: I want to ask you a couple of more questions.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: By man, I'm on the phone with the legend, the
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: music genius who has multiple strings of income. We'll be
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: back with money making conversations. And I guess Kenny, baby
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: Face Adam's gonna talk about this tour his album, and
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: I got an idea, Let's go to Broadway, Babies the Broadway.
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: I'm on the phone with my man. His credit sale
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: American song sing singer, songwriter, and record producer, calling the
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: incredible man, nice guy, but the hits that he created
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: over the years. Not only did he perform that, he's
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: written affect us every day when you hear Don't be
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Cruel every little step by Bobby Brown, Superwoman by Karen White,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: or him singing It's no crime, Whip a Peel, that's
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: my song right there. I think that's what I fell
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: in love with, your baby, Whip a pill. And then my, my,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: my my, I'm talking about Johnny gil still making money
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: off that song. Into the Road Boards two Men, the
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Bodyguard soundtrack, Come on now for the Cooler Youth. That's
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: when that that that's when you was really cool, Kenny
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: on that one. Can't we talk? Kevin Tavera, dude, the
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: do you do you get what some people say? Do
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: you ever hear about block? You said, man, but I
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: think what you told me was that you listen to
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: people and that helps you be creative. Is that just that?
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: Just that key? That's the care you just you just
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: listen to everyone, watch everyone, listen to everything, and that's
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: where you get. That's where you get the ideas, and
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: that's that's like when they say, you know when a
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: good a great actors when they listen to the other
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: person and you react naturally, not to the line of
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: what that person does, and that creates creates a great scene.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: Now when you when you put together music, when I
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: when I saw you, when I when I've seen you
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: on stage three times, and I've been fortunate enough to
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: book you one time, so I've come as a customer
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: twice to see you. And the beauty of that is
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: that I get to see an artist who's having a
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: good time. Man, and explained that experience of being on stage,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: because you look like you having a great time on stage. Man,
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: talk to me about that. Well, I mean, you can't
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: help but that a good time when when when everybody
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: else is having a good time, you know that's uh,
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: I mean that that's a big, big part of it is, Um,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: if you wouldn't be having a good time, the audience
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: looks like they having a good time, and you you're
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: gonna want to get off as soon as you can.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: But but I think when we go through through the songs,
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: and you know, something else happens when you hit the stage,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: You've become something else from someone else. And uh, and
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: it's and the music takes over and and and the
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: the stories, the songs, the it's it's um, it takes
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: you back to a time and I watched it take
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: people back to their two special times in their lives
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: where they're in love or not in love, or whether
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: it was hurt or not hurt um and all those
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: things kind of make a difference. And so you know,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: at that particular point you're connecting let me, let me
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: as this is the music though, is we have that
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: strong digital world we live in now, today's social media
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: world we live now in now today? Has that changed
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: how you approach your music? Only it changes it in
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: the sense of you're maybe a little more aware of
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: how people talk and how people say things. People say
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: things differently, So so as you're writing not so much
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: for myself, but as I'm writing for someone that might
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: be younger than might because I'm gonna people. People ultimately
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: only go for songs that they feel that they think
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: are honest. So you can't give one song to another
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: person that that that it doesn't seem like their personality.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: It just because it doesn't feel real and and and
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: that's important to you. Correct, Yeah, well, because it's it's
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: important because if it's because you know, if people don't
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: feel like it's real and they're not gonna they're not
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: gonna like it, ask you just because it's just me talking. Okay, Kenny,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: is that when I see when I when I watched
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: when I went to your show, it was like watching
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: a collection of okay with you, the greatest hits, okay,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: your your greatest hits and other hits that you produced
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: and written over the years. Okay, I see a Broadway,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: I see Motown, I see Mama Mia. Is there any
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: talk or even cross your mind of taking your collection
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: of a maze using songs? And because they touched so
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: many emotions and they all tell stories to Broadway, There's
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: been a number of people that have kind of come
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: to me here and there, and I just haven't acted
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: on it yet because I haven't found the right the
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: hit or the right idea for um and uh. And
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: that's a lot of a lot of time that you
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: have to put into that to make that right. So
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: and if I'm going to do it, I want to
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: it's gotta be right. And it means that you have
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: to have time to put into it. Yeah. Cool, because
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: because because because it just seems like it's one of
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: the obvious pitches and I know what you're saying, don't
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: come to do something that's obvious. What what what's the plane?
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: What's the story? So it makes sense to me, If
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: it makes sense to me, and I got the time
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: to do it, and then guess what, I do it
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: because guess what, I'm a creative person and I know
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: and I understand my music history and my music legacy,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: but you want to put it out there right correct? Yes? Cool?
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: Now what's coming up on these tours? Man? What we're
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: gonna see you? You're on the road a lot lately
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: at this month, the next month? What's going on? Brother? Yeah,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: I'm I'm out. I'm in Philly this Thursday, Philly and uh,
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: I mean Brooklyn and uh Coney Island on Friday, and
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: then Columbia, Maryland on Saturday, and then I think next
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: week I got some more dates coming up. So I'm
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: kind of in and out. I always like to do
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: these like weekend warrior dates where you kind of go
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: in and out. So because I still do work in
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: the studio and I just finished doing uh Johnny Mathis
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: album and and now working on the album with myself
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: and still working with a new younger artists too, so
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: I gotta kind of kind of go in and out
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: hit hit and quit it. Now. You said, did you
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: say Johnny Matheis? I did. I'm atia something man. When
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I come to l A. So always funny because I
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: stayed in the Commental Hotel when I come to l A.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: And I would get up, everything was always magical. Every
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: time I would get up and go work out in
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: the gym about six o'clock in the morning, Johnny Mathis
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: was always in there working out. Funny, always in there working.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: We're working there with two guys. It's always with two
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: guys in there working out. And I had a great
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: conversation with him, man. And and the fact that you're
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: telling me today you're working with it means that guess what,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: He's a machine and he has something today he has
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: to say. So when we look at somebody like Johnny Mathis,
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: what when you start talking about music, because you see
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: you listen to them, what what what? What? What? What
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: are you trying to convey us? A writer for him? Well, unfortunately,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: the Johnny Mathis Project is an album that worked with
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: Claude David song where we put together uh songs of
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: the past in the past twenty years. So he's doing
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: the song, he's done, He's doing like I believe I
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: can fly. He's doing like he raised me up right,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: and he's uh so, he's he's done a collection of
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: songs about ten songs where he's singing any songs, any soundings.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: He sounds amazing, eighty three years old and still kicking
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: it and and looks great, sounds great. And that's that's
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: who and where I want to be at that age too. Well,
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: look good. You know that you look good. Believe me,
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: it's an amazing man when I get to see because
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: all the people only see you as a star. That's
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: using it and you are man. You are, don't I
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: know you? You know you're You're a very humble guy.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: That's one thing I take away every time I've had
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: the pleasure of meeting you with you and being in
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: the room with you, is that you're very respectful for
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: the talent of the round. You. You treat your staff
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: one level. You know you don't. You don't sing about
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: anybody that's important to having the right people around your
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: like Susan, you know who's my contact for you, She's fantastic.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: It's important. Now you just want to let people know that,
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: and you should let can you let people know the
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. Well, I
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: think in business, you it's it's hard to be in
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: this business and and not step on Somebody's told at
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: some point, at some point you're gonna you're gonna have
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: a disagreement and things are gonna be aren't always gonna
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: go that way, But as long as you do it
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: respectfully and and you're you're honest about it and straightforward
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: about it, then then people will respect you. I pride
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: myself and being in this business as long as I've
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: been and not really have any enemies. Um, and that
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: allows you to return to places. Um, you have to
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: be careful if you if you're kind of like, you know,
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: kind of stepping on everybody all along the way, then
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: then if if if and we all go through ups
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: and downs. You know, uh, nobody's at the top all
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: the time, so you know at some point that person
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: that you stepped on might be the person might help
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: you get to the next step. So um, so you
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: should always be careful of that. My man. Um, I
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: have a project I'm gonna bring to you, and I'm
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: running by Susan Susici side. Now we're gonna be done
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: with it because she's I don't I don't. I don't
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: buy pass who I talked to on a regular bation.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: But man, I want to I want to thank you
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: for taking the time. I know she's always been trying
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: to get us together and connect. We're connecting the radio.
